Great football, great result. Hail Hail

Today Paul Hartley epitomised what it means to play for Celtic.

You predicted the rise in workrate and effort today, I am impressed!
Any chance of next weeks lotto results

-
Paul 67
was I correct?
-
Not much not to like about this performance.
Midfield much much better and the whole team benefitted.
Robson and Hartley both excellent. Why has it taken us till 6 games to go in the season to get these two together in there.
-
Did we sign Scott Mcmanus outside of the transfer windae Paul? :-)
Well down Bhoys, and a big thanks to all for the updates.
Bring on that other mob!
BF
-
scott mcmanus had a blinder so did barry hartly :)
-
A comprehensive victory today and I was pleased with the contribution of Barry Robson, who brought some energy and dig to the middle of the park.
Personally I would have preferred it if we had kept going for the full 90 minutes.
While the game was all but over, we regressed in to a style of play that is responsible for the position we are currently in.
For example, it's as well the chance Aiden had wasn't needed to win a tight game. It was, however, symptomatic of the way we have been playing over the past few months.
Anyway, let's see what happens on Wednesday.
-
Well done celts. Naka put in agreat shift, tracking abck and pressuring players into errors. Hartley excellent (except for goal)Roibson grafting and tackling and Aiden just being Aiden. If JVOH could head the ball like Joe Jordan he would be some player. Was apprehesive with Gordon sticking with his strikers. Well done GS. You obviously have total faith in them. One game at a time, three points at a time, three leagues in a row?
-
hartley & robson in central midfield the main difference between today and recent weeks, 2 months too late gordon. Hartley MOTM
-
One thing that has been proved today is that it is possible to accomodate Naka and Aiden in the same side.
If the two central midfielders turn in a good disciplined performance.
-
Half and half, you were correct.
Michael Collins, three weeks ago I predicted that it would take suspensions before we would see our best central midfield play. This shortcoming is the reason we are behind.
-
Paul Hartley may not win every header & every tackle but he certainly makes sure his opponent doesn't get an easy ride of it. The passion he showed today is what is required of every player who is selected for us. You could see by his reaction to the goals today what it meant to him.
Barry Robson is another Bhoy who also puts himself about & showed a tremendous desire to win every challenge.
Hail Hail
-
Paul 67
Hahaha I have a confession to make
I only knew the answer because they said it at half time on setanta... Two hail marys and an our father for me
Cannae wait ta wed nite noo.
-
Why the big surprise at Paul Hartley playing well?
He has done so every time he has been asked.
As I have said for many moons,Gordon Strachan's main failing has been an insistence on playing both Naka and Aiden in the same "midfield".
I like the idea, and I like the idea of training them to add to their game(which has actually happened a great deal),but we need to get the hard guys in there(at least three out of four) and this will make the difference.
Even today with two serious workers out of four,it made a difference(take not Massimo).
3 out of 4 would make a difference, and would disprove once and for all,the fallacy of the "physically superior" Rangers team that we have had so much disinformartion about this season.
-
possilbhoy(surely you mean possobhoy?)
Paul Hartley has always epitomised what it meant to play for Celtic for me.
Pity we didn't sign him about three years earlier.
Mon had the chance, but thought two million was a bit rich.
Fatal mistake,if you ask me.
-
Paul your last comment is on the money.
Because they are no better or worse a team than we played last week. Because they are overall quite poor and lacking in imagination. Yet they still highlighted our defensive frailties once or twice in the second half.
Great to see two and three midfield pass combinations connecting across the middle of the park keeping the ball moving and the Motherwell team watching us and our forwards - as it should be.
Come on Wednesday.
As MnCelt (I think) stated - the support were great today - thanks to them for that.
-
Kano,
i should really be calling myself Possilparkbhoy but don't want to seem aloof to my former neighbours of that lovely Glasgow suburb.
I agree with you completely on all you say about Paul Hartley. It's just nice to see him playing for us.
Hail Hail
-
Great performance today, I agree that Paul Hartley showed tremendous effort and heart.
How many of us have said that he needed to be in the team before now?
I have no doubt that the same team who played today would have dealt comfortably with Motherwell last week. However, the only reason we seen that central midfied duo today is because Scott Brown was suspended.
Credit where credit is today for GS, my only fear is that he has left it too late. 2 wins against the huns with a win against Aberdeen in between will leave us with a real chance. Fair play to GS if he can achieve this.
Hope!!
-
Im sure we are all delighted at taking 3 points out of 6 against Motherwell.
but Mr gordon Strachan just said on setanta that the ''football last week was a joy to behold''
I was at that game.
Please resign Mr Gordon Strachan.
-
-
Uly,
not having a dig,but can you name one instance when the "away" support has not been superb in their backing for the team?
Some people get "upset" about their choice of"extremist" songs occassionaly, but generally they are people who are not actually there.
As I said last year,I hope we win the title away from home this year.
Those are the people who deserve to witness it.
They are the "supporters" regardless of their thoughts on our manager and players.
-
I think Gordon Strachan sees Paul Hartley purely as a holding midfielder and only plays him when he thinks he needs that type. In home games he seems to think that Donati offers more attacking options.
My view is that Hartley has shown himself to be the more consistent player overall and he should therefore get the nod to play.
I also think Robson for Scott Brown was a change that should have been made weeks ago. I do think Scott Brown will become a great Celtic player but he is struggling as a young man in his first season at a big club. He needed a break before his enforced one.

mcgrory
No malice intended in this question - who would you wish to see as our next manager? In asking you that I'd qualify it further by saying I mean who do you think would take the job?
-
glasgowsellick.
seem to remember most using as a stick to beat Gordon Strachan with.
Regardless of what he could offer the team.
The only reason I would criticise Gordon with regards to Paul Hartley,is the fact that he has not played him enough!!!
-
2nd half goal
-
Kano
Don't disagree with anything you've stated.
Plain and simple I thought our support were loud n proud today - well before the game was a foregone conclusion.
Maybe setanta had the mics turned up in expectation of something different...
-
Good result, however the proof of the pudding will be Wednesday night.
Thought Hartley had a good game which begs the question why was he dropped last week and other games?
One game down lads, that sort of performance and desire should have been evident in many games this season and not just today?
It's the first game in ages that we have been constant for 90 mins and pressed the ball. Press the ball in football games the opposition tend to make misatkes. The pressing of the team was good today. First to everything and picked up second balls.
Jan??? What an egnima. Can be deadly in some games and look up for it, then other games looks a shadow of himself. Today he looked sharp.
Although Motherwell rarely threatned the chances they did create will get punished in other games. Hughes was allowed to waltz through that defence. Hartley to blame for first goal by getting caught on the ball. However, GC and Mick didn't exactly cover themselves in glory. GC dived in and got skinned. Reminded me of Big Varga when Inzaghi done the same and they scored.
Roll on Wednesday. Cousin is a certain starter on Wednesday so big Mick and GC better be ready to match him.
-
McGrory for Arsenal.
Good to see you you enjoying a great result for "our" team.
Sack the manager for a really good win.
As you said before.
"I used to like him,but not now"
Please provide a link to any such statement.
Until you do....

Thanks Half and Half!
-
My dear,dear,dear, friend...Tighnabruiach57 @15.58.
Thanks pal....
I knew that the Celtic players had hit rock bottom... it was in the cards that there had to be a turn around...
Besides, my faithful adviser in sports betting, the redoubtable Nutsy.. gave me the woid....
By the way ...he favours Celtic on Wednesday.
Another thing...while most people were condemning the Celtic Manager for our troubles...
I knew darn well, that that is not the case....
After all...
Mr.Strachan picks the team...he does not compete in the fray~
It looks like in today's team he.
For the foist time in ages..it seems...he has found the correct Mid-field, Combination.
Jvoh was absolutely lethal... what a superb two strikes,he made.
He was magnificent.
And Macko's effort, would have hit the post...last week... but, those tantalizing, aye beguiling, puckish, Fairies... are now finished playing their aggravating tricks... and have now decided..."Hey~ Enough is Enough!
Let's dish out a few breaks to the Celtic...we have teased them enough!"
It had to happen...what goes around ...doesn't necessarily always come around...but I have the feeling that the breaks are now going to be in our favour.
All of the Team, today played their hearts out..For a change!
It was way past time!
Even Naka was in there nip, nip, nipping, at the heels of the Motherwell players...
All of our team, turned in a very ENERGETIC and ENTHUSIASTIC SHIFT.
I cannot fault any of our guys ..
I give them every one... a "Big Thanks... for that effort... We needed that, guys."
Celtic 17 G.A.0

Uly,I hope they did.
And I hope they heard some things that the "Scottish" media have deemed "unacceptable"
God, I hope they have.
Would give them any reason to comment on anything apart from a good performance from our team and fans.
If they do happen to comment on something derogatorey to our club, then you can be sure they are worried.
Here's hoping
-
Sorry, extra "e" floating aboot in there for some reason!!!
-
Kano,
Don't follow your last post.
What I was getting at was that Paul Hartley has been our best and most consistent midfield player.
I know many on here including myself have been calling for him to start every game. There was an air of bewilderment at last weeks team selection.
I agree with you that GS has not played him enough. I feel that had he played last week, we would very likely only be 1 point behind- I honestly beleive that is the difference he makes to this team.
Lets hope he starts every game from now until the end of the season!
-
rankers have just missed a penalty
-
glasgowsellick.
Wasn't having a dig at you.
Have long been a fan of Paul Hartley.
Have long stated that him,Brown and Robson plus either Naka or Aiden(with Sno coming in for injuries or suspensions to the three hard nuts) should be our midfield.
Just that he was derided as "another SPL class player who is not Celtic class" by many a poster on here.
Think he is a superb player, who is actually one of the fabled"Celtic minded" people who we apparantly miss these days.
Should always play as fit as far a s I am concerned.
Then again,I am not the manager.
-
Pastyface,
good news.
Although I would prefer it if they weren't awarded one in the first place!!!!
-
Kano
Did you ever get to the bottom of those things being nicked from your porch the other week?
-
McGrory,
I believe the quote is...
"The football was a joy to behold at times last week but the commitment today was a joy."
Taken from BBC.co.uk
I believe this to be true, we did play really well at times last week...
...WERE you at the game?
-
EDB,
believe it or not.
Yes I did.
Received a phone call from our Police Force here, that they had found my mobile phone.
Some wee theif had tried to sell it throgh "cash convertors" and the serial number had popped up in a register somewhere and they had recovered it.
Funny thing was.
Went up to the Police station to recover it(after I had bought a new one and claimed the insurance),quoted the report number, only to be told that they couldn't find it!!!!
They completely failed to get the irony in my question, when I asked why,in an office full of Police officers, they could not find a phone that they had told me to come and pick up after they had founf it!!!!
They never did find my fags!!!
-
Theef,thief,theif,

jonathan88,
McGrory for Arsenal is well known for what is euphemistically called "taking liberties with quotes"
Or,to you and me,downright lying.
When you dig him up for this,he suddenly has the "Sean South ailment".
Which is he fails to acknowledge your post,or he is too busy to post.
Having said that,he seems to be rather "unbusy" when "Walter" has a good result.
-
are the decision's regarding scheduling the huns away games against st mirren and motherwell due soon?
does anyone believe they will make them play 2 days before their home game v fiorentina
-
Hartley and Robson were good today but as Paul67 has said about Bobo, they're not the answer long-term. Hopefully some quality will be brought in for those positions in the summer. Wenger once said that a team is as good as it's midfield and this season ours has lacked balance.
Good to see McDonald back among the goals today.
On a different note, did Wim Jansen ever coach anyone after us? And if not, why? Is there a reason why he struggles to get work?
-
Sir Paul
I am still going to hammer away at my conclusion.....
It is the Players who are to blame... It is the Players..
Today, I am sure everyone will agree that there was a complete and utter change in the ATTITUDE of the players.
For the first time...in ages...it seemed...
When Motherwell equalized... in a very disconcerting and confidence sapping way... and, as is OUR USUAL WONT....we HAD GIFTED OUR OPPONENTS THEIR well taken STRIKE...which was completely against the run of play...
We did not curl up ....and lie down.. in our dejection!.
Na!!
We darn well, rolled up our sleeves... and got tore into the Blighters!
Yes, the wind of change, for the Good Ship Celtica, is now Billowing our Sails!
For,as you know, and I know, and your old Man knows...but not my uncle Lou...he disnae know nuttin'.....that all Celtic needed was a Re-adjustment in their
ATTITUDE!
In game after game...we were the Superior outfit...no question!... in the last Five Disappointments, that we have suffered, we should have come away with the scalps of our opponents dangling from our belts...
But the one thing missing ...that we did not show in those games...
Was...
Confidence!
Frankly, our Attitude... Stunk...er Stank..or should it no be.. STINKED!
Today, was the Turning Point..
Make a note about that,pal
Celtic are back in the Running to be in the RUNNING!
Roll on Wed.
I am bursting with confidence that we will take the G.A. to School!
Kojo.
-
For me today just proved that all our problems this season have been with the midfield structure.
Our defence have not lost many goals all season and given good service our two forwards will score.
Not convinced we can win our six matches with both McGeady and Naka. And it's a pitty Brown is not suspended until the end of the season. Hartley not convinced about either but is the best of an average bunch.
-
Well I set out to watch this game for the third time today. Well worth waiting for. The crowd was excellent again. Our football was a bit better. our commitment was a lot better.
Robson shaded Hartley for MOM in my opinion. Nice wee booster for Wednesday.
Bring on the Rankers. They'll need every germ from their manky kitchen to put us low this week.
-
mcgrory
Have I missed your reply?
-
EDB,
you may well ask.
Who is that?
And yes,the reason I am here is that I feel I have "fuller" life here.
Although, not getting to see the Celtic in real life,is something I miss a gret deal.
Having said that, the "Parkhead experience" is something I am happier to take from memories.
-
Thought we would lose today. absolutely delighted to be wrong. Well done bhoys.

strachan on bbc radio says people must expect me ta turn to the drink, leave ma wife, and phone the samaritans, after last week hahaha
-
Kojo....You keep saying that the players must take the blame but surely they're all in it together?
Strachan has taken plaudits for his trophies and progress in Europe. Does that mean those plaudits should be taken away and given to the players?
He signed the players, he selects them and it's his job to motivate them.
Todays improvement was largely down to the midfield having more balance - something we've been crying out for for ages and something Paul67 said would only happen through injuries and suspension. The man whose job it is to know this has done it about six months too late and it has cost us the title.
As far as I'm concerned, it's the players, the manager, the board and even us as a support that have been left wanting this season. We win as Celtic and we lose as Celtic.
-
Nelsbhoy,
For your information, don't do "the beach"
Sea here is full of poisonous jelly fishes and sharks, and app 25 km from where I live.
I am sorry if you feel the "hurting" changes due to geography.
Do you think you hurt more than people from Edinburgh or Aberdeen who support Celtic?
Perhaps the hurt kicks in when you cross the border to England?
Perhaps you hurt more than the people who take overnight ferries from Ireland to watch Celtic?
Only to find out when they land that the game at Motherwell has been cancelled?
Or that you hurt more than people who get up at 3 in the morning to watch Celtic 70 km away from their home on a Thursday morning?
Somehow,I get the feeling you have made none of the sacrifices mentioned above.
Perhaps you should not confuse my opinions of the team and posters on here with my ability to watch home games.
If I can ask.
When was the last time you spent 5 thousand pounds to watch a Champion's League game?
High Ground?
Psuedo intelligencia?
There is nothing Psuedo about me.
Call it as I see it,and if people prove me wrong,I am the first to accept it and apologise.
Where is the "high ground" I am taking?
Flippant remarks are extremely easy to make.
Actually backing them up with quotes from my posts is an entirely different thing.
Feel free to "quote"
-
Thanks the Lord for Scott Brown's suspension. Otherwise I assume he would have played. Hartley and Robson have the grit and determination required in the last few games.
For all the plaudits of today, don't let it mask the continuing inferiority displayed by the centre halves, Caldwell particularly - who does he think he is telling Naka to move over at a freekick ? These guys cost us goals, although to be fair McManus showed some backbone today. A big difference is made by Lennon urging them on from the touchline.
An inkling today that this team may have the will and desire to win on Wednesday. For it is these qualities more than anything that will determine the victor.
-
Kojo,
Of course the players are to blame to an extent.
However, when the same players make the same mistakes, time and time again, the manager must be questioned for putting them in the position to be able to make these mistakes over and over again.
One thing I admired about Martin O'Neill wass, in the same way he accepted the credit for success, he was always willing to hold his hands up and accept criticism/blame when things went wrong.

£5,000 for a game,Good for you.It doesnt hurt so much when you are knee deep day and day in Scum as we are.
How are the Orange Walks over there?
-
malceye.
Can I ask when was the last time Gary Caldwell had a bad game for us?
Telling Naka to move is not an indicator of performance by the way.
Do you think he was poor last week?
Do you think he was poor against Rangers?
Do you think he has been poor in the last six or eight games?
I am not talking in partnership with big Mick.
But Gary Caldwell personally?
If I have completely missed the irony in your question(which I have a sneaking suspicion that I have),then you deserve a good boot up thr bahookie for taking the urine.
And a slap on the back.
But if I haven't and you are serious....
You desreve a good kick up thr bahookie.

Great support today and at last a midfield.
Hartley was a rock and in robson we have some one who is not afraid to get stuck in.
Hopefully we have seen the last of Donatie.
JVOH put in a good shift and it really should have been more.
Caldwell has no concept of defending and needs punted for wednesday. i hope bobo starts against the huns.
To late i guess but at least we look like we can get some pride of the huns.
How i hate them. Had an orange march through here yesterday and my god they are ugly scum. I am right up for wednesday

Caldwell was pants today. Does that answer your question ? Watching him from the top tier of the South Stand at Murderwell, out of position, moaning at others, unable to clear the ball properly, unable to flight a long ball consistently, unable to clear his lines, the man is a liability.
Now I have told you the last time he played badly, you tell me the last time he had a good game. And not by Gary Caldwell standards, please.
As for kicking me...well, you are far away aren't you ?

I had a good feeling we'd get a good result today we were due it. Fair play to Gordon for sticking by Jan and Scott. I felt Samaras should have started today but Gordon right to stick by them.

-
My dear,dear,friend..Geebee1978...
Now, I watched the game today... you did also...
That being said...
I know as sure as you know what... is in... the You know what...
There was a complete and utter and ineluctable change, in Attitude..that exuded from the Celtic Team..
Now what accounted for that?
Was it the fact that Mr.Strachan had finally picked a Mid-Field that was more in keeping with the choices of the Majority of Posters?
Or was it, to put it more simply..as I look at it...
THE RESULT OF A BETTER ALL ROUND... AND MAN BY MAN...
TEAM EFFORT ... by Celtic.
FOR A CHANGE!
Nowhere did I see .. The Board, Mr.Strachan..or you or I...
Anywhere on the field!
It is... and always will be... up to the Players, who are PLAYING ON THE DAY...
That are RESPONSIBLE for the SCORE-LINE...
And don't you ever,ever ... Forget that..
All the talk... all the criticism..all the Monday Morning Quarter Backing in the WOILD...
Will nevah,nevah change that FACT!
Who Picked the Team, Today?
It was Mr. Strachan...
He always picks the Team
And he will pick the Team this coming Wed., as well...
And the very SAME GORDON STRACHAN,
was the Man who Picked the Victorious Celtic Teams who in the Past TWO YEARS have done us..and themselves proud by their numerous... SUCCESSES!
Yes.... believe it on not....
The Man who picked those very successful Celtic Teams.
WAS THE EXACT SAME GORDON STRACHAN...who has suddenly... well no suddenly..that would be innacurate...become a PARIAH amongst MOST..but thankfully...not all of us Fans.
So what occurance has brought about this disdain that is now being heaped on this proven successful manager...
All of his change of fortune ,can be and is..according to yours truly... the Fault of his Players.. hanging him out to dry..by their inept, turgid, spiritless..yes that's woid I have been looking for...
SPIRITLESS ATTITUDE.. that they have assumed, all this season..but Mainly, since DEC.2007
And when we beat the G.A....
It will be the Players who accomplish that....
I see things in an entirely different way than you.
It does not mean that you are wrong or I am right..
It is just a matter of opinion.
I would be the last man on Earth to claim that I am always right.. maybe, the SECOND LAST...but that is neither here nor there.
You are entitled to look at things any way that you wish...
But , No one will ever change my opinion in this Matter.
It is so obvious to me..
that no matter what...
In the Final Issue it is always up to the Players to bring in the sheaves!
Kojo.
Yer pal...who you wull nevah understand... but, I will no haud that agin' ye.

Nelsbhoy,
not that it makes the slightest bit of difference, but the statue of king William is most prominent above the Protestant halls, and the Masonic hall takes pride of place in one of the largest buildings right at the front of the city.
What difference this makes to watching and supporting Celtic I fail to see!!!
If you wish to make silly remarks about where I live, and how that relates to how I support Celtic, perhaps you would be better finding out about where I live, and how I do support Celtic, financially, and otherwise.
Your complete ignorance of my geographical situation, and my support, financial, and otherwise,of Celtic, just proves your inability to pass judgent on me.
Malceye,
just goes to prove how wide and varied opinions are when it comes to the man.
I watched the game too.
"Pants"?
And I thought the guy was superb.
Failed to stop a pass going by him for the goal, but apart from that, thought he had a great game.
You will never see anything good about him.
Regardless of what he does.
Perhaps if you ever had to play in goal, you would appreciate the qualities of centre halves far more than you could from row ZZ in some stand.
Gweedorebhoy is the same(Gordon Strachan seems to be afflicted with the same ailment. Suppose Bobo would heal all of our ailments?)
That is your perogative.
I tend to accent the positives.
Call it a failing,or a weakness if you like.
But,unlike yourselves,I am able to take each performance on it's own merits.
Without carrying baggage from Lisbon into every game a player plays.
You may well be right, and he will be proved to be useless over the long term.
I happen to think that he will be a great central defender for Celtic, once we get over the decision of Gordon's to annoint Stephen McManus as captain, and therefore a constant,in the Celtic team.
You have a bent to see the worst.
Good for you.
But changing your opinion based on fact, does not have to mean you were wrong to start with.
Perhaps some players actually improve with time and experience.
And your opinion, although evolving, and changing,is correct all along?
-
Bhoy Sean
If you needed someone to score for you to keep you in a job would you put your faith in Samaras?
I feel the criticism of the near 50goal partnership - like the criticism of McManus - is way over the top
Although the criticism of GS for not changing the midfield earlier is not up for debate.
-
Actually Kano
its as well you are as far away as you are, because I suspect that I would be the one doing the kicking. How dare you tell me that I see the worst in a player regardless of performance.
"Superb"? And here's me thinking you were in different country but nevertheless on the same planet - how wrong could I be.

-
~Kevtic
I'm a big a fan of both Jan and Scott and have defended Jan in particular on a number of occasions but lately it's gone a bit stale with them and it looked like a change was needed. Samaras has been impressive since he came but all his good performances have generally been from the bench with him being less effective from the start but he's not had too many starts so it's hard to be too critical of him. It's not an easy choice to make and many managers would have taken the easy option and dropped Jan as fans have been showing frustration lately at him starting over Samaras.

malceye 17.34 - re the new Messi, the media need a new heron now that the white Cafu is away.
I take it that was Alistair Alexander on one of his own dribbles...

C'mon Malceye and Kano, we've had enough arguing on this site recently and let's just have a bit of harmony on the back of a good result. The atmosphere here is unpleasant when posters are flinging insults at each other.
-
malceye,
threats are easy when you are not face to face.
Why don't you drop the "hard man" nonsense, and the "how dare you" garbage.
As I have said to McGrory for Arsenal.
Why don't you link me to a post of yours where it says that Gary Caldwell had a good game?!!!
I am sure even you would have to admit that he has had ONE.
Just one link,to one good thing you have said about him.
Perhaps it is you who lives in a different country, and for that matter a different planet from the rest of us?
But then again,it is probably just as well.
As I can assure you, face to face....
-
Kojo....
I understand perfectly what you're saying. However, you contradict yourself slightly when you talk about Strachans achievements, then put his mistakes down to the players. As I've said, he can rightly take plaudits when we win - ALONG WITH THE PLAYERS, but he must also expect flak when we're struggling - ALONG WITH THE PLAYERS.
If not, why bother even having a manager? I think history will judge Strachan kindly no matter what some on here think but I don't believe you can have your cake and eat it....
- The board are given credit when bringing in players such as Naka and lowering the debt but must take criticism when allowing Rangers to overtake them.
- The players take credit with wins like today, but must take criticism for defeats like last week.
- Strachan takes credit with his trophy haul but must also accept criticism when his stubborness and reluctance to change personnel and cover weakpoints in the side costs us the title.
- The fans can take credit when we travel away in Europe but must also take criticism when booing our own players and leaving early.
I take your point Kojo but we'll have to agree to disagree on this one - we are Celtic FC and history will show what we have won and lost as a CLUB - from the board who hires the manager, to the manager that signs and picks the players to the players who play and follow orders.

Kano
You are obviously a very committed Celtic Supporter.
My main gripe is that your posts are mainly Patrionising and condescending to others who are not happy with what is going on.
It doesnt matter where you live really when you love the Hoops. Please appreciate that we are Fighting these scumbags everyday and therefore I think our fellings are more acute.

YOU began the "kicking" line, the empty threats.
You know, you've got me really scared, cha !
Why don't you get back to exploiting the country in which you resently reside.
-
I really enjoyed the game today and got some cracking photos. Here is one of Gary Caldwell clearing his lines during a rare Motherwell attack.
-
Bhoy Sean,
I here you,and apologise if you see my posts as ainsulting,or not becoming CQN.
But if you know anything about me,I will not take threats(jokes aside) from anyone.
Especially from people who are only willing to post anonomously, and threaten with that protection.
I post as Kano, for one reason, and one reason only.
That is my name.
I am quite happy to tell everybody that.
I live in Perth,Western Australia.
If anybody wishes to know my address they can contact me on kano1967@gmail.com
I have no reason to disguise who I am.
And no reason to make stupid veiled threats.
If anybody wishes to take any debate further, they can contact me on that address and I will give them my home address, invite them on to my porch, give them twenty beers, then laugh my head off as they try to kick me!!!!
I have often been accused of being a "keyboard hardman",whatever that means.
But have had no physical contact(in a fight) with anybody for more than twenty years.
And if malceye had a beer with me.I can assure you that record would still stand proud.
Debate is good.
People who issue veiled threats(serious ones)anonomously are no more than twats of the highest order.
Malceye,if your silly post was intended in humour, good on you.
If not...

One more point Kojo....
Now I'm a fan of Strachans work up till now and let's assume you're right for arguments sake (and I'm sure you love a good argument) and that the manager is not to blame and it's all down to the players....
What would be easier and financially more practical, replacing the manager or replacing a squad full of players. Look at the transformation at Ibrox after changing just one man. Look at the difference in the quality of player brought in and the improvement of players already on the books (Hutton being the most obvious example).
Now I'm not saying here whether Strachan should stay or go....not after a good win but my question is out there for you......
-
P.S. I didn't think much of Motherwell's new "Hun sympathiser" blue & white kit!
-
Sorry continuing negative theme for one more post before drawing a line under it.
Have to say as good as todays result was it only makes last weeks' even more disappointing.
The way the games are paning out we could have had them under real pressure on Wednesday instead of letting them off the hook again.
-
kano not wishing to argue
But tele is different to watching live. Unless you are using sky player cam. Do they still have that.
I can assure you today caldwells positional sense was weak at best.
We have all played the game. The basics are stand on your man and if he has pace or guile do not let him turn. Someone should tell that to caldwell.
He is a good honest pro he just thinks he's a lot better than he is. His one asset is he is not afraid of the ball.
Pastey Face who cares. However you spell it it's still pronounced cowardly imposter.
He will be punted.
Now to the huns with midfield as is and big bobo at the back.

Kojo, I cannot agree on this occasion. The players play as they can or are deployed. Today we had a change of personnel in central midfield and the result was spectacularly different, although not in the least surprising.
I will be writing on this subject before Wednesday.
Malceye, Kano, behave.

Nelsbhoy.
Everybodies posts are viewed in different ways by all who have the misfortune to actually read them.
I find the "told you Rangers would win the league" and the "we told you Gordon Strachan was rubbish" condescending in the extreme.
Who cares?
If you wish to shoot down my posts in the flames you appear to think they belong.
Why don't you bring up facts and opinion to do just that?
Criticising what I say is easy.
Using arguments to back up why they are a complete and utter load of tosh is a wee bit harder.
PFAYR,
don't you mean BUST
Or is that only in America they use that?

being unable spell the players name just exposes you. This player is continually berated by you but you seem not to have even the most basic knowledge of him.

My dear,dear,dear, friend...geebee1978
I did not say in any shape of form that I blame Mr.Strachan's Mistakes on the players..
That is a piece of fiction that you have inserted for whatever reason, which I do not understand.
I have consistently insisted that the sole bearers of the blame...is the Players... it squarely rests on the shoulders of the Players...the Players...
I have never blamed Mr. Strachan.
I have never said that Mr.Strachan has made a mistake in any of his selection processes.
On the Contrary ,I have said...as recently as yesterday..
THAT
"I AM ALWAYS CONTENT TO LEAVE THE TEAM SELECTION PROCESS IN THE CAPABLE HANDS OF THE MANAGER...any MANAGER...
As the manager, has many and varied pieces of information, of which you or I, are not Privy!
It is absurd to make any claim, by us outsiders, that we ever could possibly have more knowledge of who should be in the team than the actual Team Manager.
It is a nonsensical idea perpretated by frustrated fans...
Who are aye liable to make bizarre claims. of how they could select a far better Mid-Field than the man on the spot...
Rubbish!

Excellent site, keep up the good work. It is appreciated even if at times it doesn't feel like it.
A question to you and others who said that maybe Strachans time is up....
If the (almost) impossible was to happen and we were to beat THEM twice while fixture congestion caught up with them...in other words, if we snatched the title, would you stand by the opinion that it's time for change or is there room for Strachan to redeem himself in your minds?
Can't see it happening and it's a major "if" but stranger things have happened.
PS Not sure if anyone answered earlier but is there a reason Wim Jansen (the only Celt to get the better of Smith) is still unemployed? Is it through choice or is he simply not rated?

How much did I love that ?
A pleasure to be among our great away support, they/we gave the team fantastic backing.
Scott Brown ? Ah tellt ye, Ah tellt ye, Ah tellt ye.

Gweedorebhoy,
fare enough if you don't rate him.
"We have all played the game"
Don't think we all have.
But regardless,if you have played the game as a forward, you have no clue what makes a centre half.
If you have played in goal, which I have,a lot,you appreciate what they have.
Have no problem with people thinking that he is not good enough for Celtic over a couple of seasons.
But when he has a good game he deserves credit.
His credit for good games seems to be as invisible as criticism for Nakas bad games.
If we treat them all the same,I have no problem.
Just doesn't seem to be the way
Malceye, take your bloody phone number off here.

Agreeing and understanding are two very different beasts.
But again, let's assume that Strachan has made no mistakes in his selections (a quite barmy view if you don't mind me saying so), then surely he has to take the flak for his signing policy as he SIGNED THE VERY PLAYERS YOU ARE BLAMING.
You are implying he is almost blameless....
You also credited him for his successes...it seems you CAN have your cake and eat it......

Strachan is a busted flush and deserves the boot. We will not win this league sad fact of life. All I want is self respect and the joy of spanking the huns twice. Few beers great crack with the lads and the joy of block 109 when we score against the huns.
Sadly they will not slip up the treble will be won which is amazing given the advantage we have thrown away but thats celtic for you. We never ever build from a position of strength.

EDB....
didnt realise I was on the clock....:-)
maybe we should go for gordon chisolm.....
he got a small team to a cup final and that seems to be the only thing of merit on strachan's cv prior to being given the job of managing one of the biggest clubs in the world!!
he got southampton to the final based on a big dollop of.....luck
luck allows a smaller team to reach a cup final now and again by avoiding any decent teams en route ....eg Gretna.
crap teams that recently got to FA cup finals with a lucky run are west ham , millwall, newcastle utd and now cardiff city.
maybe we should get the cardiff city manager next year???
Once these teams meet a better team in the final then unless they really do have a good manager they get beat!
southampton and strach's FA cup run involved all home ties! (apart from the semi where they avoided the big guns and got the mighty watford) they admittedly beat Spurs (at home) in the first round then managed to draw.... millwall (after replay), wolves and norwich.... all home.
He should never have got the Celtic job . NEVER!
and was found out IMMEDIATELY against the mighty ARTMEDIA.
Now smith is beating him for fun.
its excruciating.
Assuming we aint going for Gordon Chisolm (Queen of the South) or Davey Jones (Cardiff City) then for me its
ROY KEANE
i accept there is a debate to be had about who should be the next manager...........
but there is no debate to be had about whether we need a new manager!
-
I like him there you got me to admit it. I think he tries to do something different which doesn't always come off.
I know he's had a tricky time so far in his career. He was the boy wonder in Italy in his youth and never lived up to his early promise (according to my Chelsea supporting Italian hairdresser).
I agree that the midfield has been our problem this season. Its a shame that Lennon couldn't have had one of these player (Brown or Donati) last season to bring them on.
Injuries in the team have forced Strachan to deploy Brown on the right, Hartley as a fullback etc. Robson didn't arrive until January and most of the damage to this season had already been done.
Though my towel is firmly on the rail

-
My dear,dear,dear, Friend... Geebee.1978
I was waiting for you bringing up the claim that ..."After all... Strachan does carry some responsibility for the poor performance of the Players...for it is a fact that he signed them in the foist place"
I have never once said that Strachan had signed a Bad Player...
What I have said...many, many times...is that
Many a player that Mr.Strachan had signed...and signed in good faith... for his scouts etc... had recommended the player, and Mr.Strachan had indeed , agreed with the recommendos, all they way...
What I did an do, say ...
Such and such a player, has not performed as ADVERTISED... I have said this very recently, in respect to Herr Hinkel... I think he is a slow poke,as a matter of fact...however, it may be in his case, merely a settling in, to the Hurl and the Burl of the S.P.L.
I have also recently came out and stated the same thoughts on .. Mr.Brown... who, you must admit..his signing appeared to be a Lock... at the time, and the way Mr.Brown had been performing at the time he was signed...
Mr.Brown is soitenly not performing as Advertised, either.
And I am going on Record in the past as stating....
"An In-Coming Transfer" is a CRAP -SHOOT... especially in the Money Bracket in which Mr.Strachan is dealing...
A Two to Three Million Player... Nowadays... is not what one would call a Low Risk Proposition..
The Price Inflation that we are facing... excludes us from getting anywhere near, a sure thing, whenever we dip into the Transfer Market.
I disagree that Mr.Strachan has any lasting responsibility in a Player that he signs turns out to be a dud...
That is how things are are present in the BiG City..
Ye takes ye shot.. and ye takes yer Chances.
Mr.Strachan's signings,on many occasion turned sour...
But, even in the sad cases of Tommy and JJ and more recently,Donati... these players appeared, at the time, to be winners, according to all the scouting reports.
So I do not want to hear anymore of the nonsense that Mr.Strachan is or was responsible for the signing of a so and so... who was a duffer.
It simply is a spurious claim.
Kojo.
yer pal... who likes ye.

Great performance and result today. Hopefully we can keep it going for Wednesday's game.
Paul would like to hear your comments about the banner on display in Lisbon on Thursday Night - 'Nakamura ate my dog'. Is it just me or isn't this just as bad as throwing bannanas on the pitch? No surprise that this gone unreported in the Scottish press.

our next 3 games are at home. if we win them, we will be 5 points clear of the huns whos next scheduled league game after us is away to hibs on the 4th of may this fixture will be their 3rd away game in a row , us/fiorentina/hibs we play motherwell away on the 3/5.

Very important psychologically to win today and so well. I felt that McGeady was poor and should have passed thone time instead of shooting. Wolud have done everyone the power of good if that had gone in.
Our defence looked very fragile at times. Motherwll walked through us too easily too often but we won and convincingly. So, here's to Wednesday night.
By they way, the away support, whom I have criticised reularly on here, deserve special mention. They were CLASS.
-
Just back in from the match...
I'll take my hat off to the Celtic support at the South Stand Upper (Green Brigade), absolutely fantastic. Had the stewards and coppers on their toes.
Moving on sharpish to Wednesday, I have fears that the Ginger One will start Donati and Naka.
Again, another terrible display by our captain.

KEEP THE SOCKS GUYS..........
the defence, and mcmanus in particular has ripped the heart out of me. never been done before, not even in the early 90s.
but WE can beat them twice. and if we do, then i believe we will win the league........

If GS still walks i hope the rumours about David O'Leary aren't true? The guy's a dud!! Bit of baggage as well.
It's a no no from me. I would rather have Gordon!! But like you, win or lose the league i reckon he will head back South and enjoy a quiet life.
This WGS choice starts high then gradually moves down.
My Top Ten is as follows:
1. Mourinho
2. Hiddink
3. Van Gaal
4. Steve Clarke
5. Roy Keane
6. Mark Hughes
7. David Moyes
8. Tony Mowbray
8. Mark McGHEE
10. Craig Levein
Too early for Lambert just now i think. Would like to see him get another few seasons down south. Saying that Celtic did help him through his coaching badges and i got my suspicions about WGS's tip to London and Lenny returning. All we need is for the King to announce his retirement in the summer and that will be Paul's assistant. Hmmmmm.......

Paul67 or anyone else ,
Could anyone other the next few weeks try and find out when we will be confirming our attendance at the Rotterdam tournament in August 1-3. The other clubs involved , Spurs Feynoord and Borussia Dortmund , seem to have confirmed but theres nothing official from ourselves as yet. I'll be in the area near the time and it would be worth attending but I'd prefer advance notice rather than 2 weeks before the event.
It may be dependant on CL qualifiers or league start (although I think Celtic are privy to next years potential fixtures) but if anyone could provide any other info it would be much appreciated.

This is not supposed to be sour grapes, but why is the Steven Whittaker goal being compared to Diego Maradona's (Daily Mail)? It's a good goal (fair play to him for taking it) but not *that* good!

Talking about banners. I heard Terry Christian on Talksport getting tore into Rangers supporters for having Union flags. :-)
-
My dear,dear,friend,Parkheadcumsalford.
To a certain extent,I agree with your criticism of Mr.McGeady, but with the following reservation..
It is true that Master McGeady did not have the best of games...although, mebbe the reason that he didn't...was more up to the determination and success of the double teaming, by the Motherwell defense, than any slippage in form of our young man.
Plus, the playing surface, forbade any attempt at indulging in niceties of skill.
As you have mentioned, our Central Defense, did look very flat footed... but again... I believe there were mitgating circumstances, that maybe could explain, their flatfootedness..
The Goal that our opponents scored, not to put an exaggerated point on it... WAS A WELL WORKED THING OF BEAUTY!
It was indeed a Brammmer!
Two Motherwell PLayers...both of Whom I predict will give many more Central Defenders a wholelotta headaches in succeeding games....cut a swathe through the Celtic defense like the Proverbial Butter-Knife!
On a later occasion one of these young Motherwell...future stars?...
took on the whole Celtic defensive Mid- Field... beating man after man.. causing havoc ...His name I believe is Hughes ....an ex- G.A. player,I believe, but he is a good 'un,nevertheless, in spite of his antecedents.
I therefore offer you the possibility that our defense although appearing to be slow and flat footed...did not have their sorrows to seek against these two young very fine Motherwell players...Namely, McCormack and Hughes...both ex- G.A. players.
I agree that the Celtic Team turned in... all being considered... a very uplifting demonstration of skill and perseverence whinc was 180 degrees different, from any of their recent fumbling and bumbling, outings, which we have come to know and detest.
This Celtic out-fit, were unrecognisable from the team that we have been watching the past ... umpteen games..
Today's, Team selection , By Mr.Strachan, look like a bunch o' likely lads. They played like a team... rather that a bunch of individualists.
I believe they have turned some kind of corner... the one that leads to Harmony Row.
Kojo.

pfayr,
i dont find it funny at all.
i was making a (tedious) link to the motherwell fans being caught telling lee naykor to eff off home and it being played down by booth as good natured banter.
the rangers fans are intolerant and rascist. how long before mcgeady or lennon are subject to a similar banner, no doubt incoporating the words "potato famine"...
-
I was working today and never seen a kick of the ball or caught up with the blog.
Only one thing to say - here is what I've been saying since we signed Robson and posted on here about 6 weeks ago...
When we play Naka and Aiden we need ball winners in the middle of the park. I thought Scott Brown would be the man but he hasn't shown it so far. Therefore I would go with Hartley and Robson. Both of them can play, defend, win the ball, have dig, are proven in the league AND can score goals. They also both have an affinity with the club and are both determined and hungry for success. I think that’s enough reasons…. Why not give them a try?
I would now add.... can play on dodgy parks!
With the exception of Wilson for Naylor and maybe Bobo getting a start, we MUST go with the same from now until we win the league.
Hail Hail

wgs..oleary..standing on an election platform for the tories was more than enough for me..
popped a name on here last week and that was koeman..know hes employed but looks as if valencia wont have him next year due to no europe..boats burned in holland psv/ajax etc..
excellent english as his tv appearances and my own personal experience in schipol airport prior to seville would confirm..
if and its a big if.. a foreign regime is considered then hes top of my list

awalkacross,
I was going to stick Koeman in at 10 as i grew up loving this guy. What a player. Would take him in a heartbeat.
Valencia were in dis array before Koeman arrived. Get him to bring Hildebrand with him if Artur goes. Hilderbrand is Hinkels mate. Played together at Stuttgart.
-
Dub-tim, smelltheglove, Emerald Bhoy, thanks.
WGS, I know you better, you lllllove a good/bad rumour, and that is a very good, bad rumour :-)
Eddiemcguinness, in that case, welcome, good to hear from you.
Enrico, dates in August will have to wait until we know who many CL qualifiers we’ll have to play.
-
paul67,
those banners are created and unfurled by the blue order, the rangers version of the jungle bhoys. they made the voodoo banner, as well as the "strachan must stay" and "the car park awaits". i am led to believe that the naka banner came from them also.
so this is a club backed organisation responsible for racist banners? these are the fans hand-picked by rangers themselves!
imagine the outrage and public whipping we'd get if the jungle bhoys unfurled a banner racially abusing darcheville or cousin.
by the way, read the blue orders website and their mission statement... it's hilarious!!
-
ianinjesi,
Thats an interesting point on Terry Christian.
What was he saying?
I was at an Ian Brown concert where he refused to play until union jack was taken down!
-
wgs..agreed on both koeman and timo..maybe mcgrain/celtic 1st can update both folks situation at mestalla..
met koeman in schipol prior to seville flight..was very complimentary about celtic and the king..was neutral re huns/advocaat but was seriously uncomplimentary about jan wouters..not suitable for a family blog as three guys from saltcoats working in utrecht would testify..

Sorry if I've missed this being posted earlier, but in today's Sunday Herald their columnist Kenny Hodgart, in a critical piece about Celtic fans' views on Gordon Strachan, included the following line: "Some fans would probably rather have a bead-rattling Hoopy the Huddle Hound in the dug-out."
I've already complained to the Sunday Herald about this sectarian tosh and demanded a published apology next week otherwise I'll have bought my last SH. Perhaps a few (hundred) more of the same would be a good idea.

Paul
your prognosis on our managers term - is a gut feeling? Or advised?
These past 3 years seem to have flew past. And I'm more than trepidatious about the hassles of recruiting not only a new manager (There's many of them I'm sure) BUT the right new manager.
Ah well, would we have it any other way?
U.

WGS
in 7 years at Dortmund 126 appearances (all competitions)
in 1 year at real 7 appearances.
average? 16 appearances per season.
Germany's Jonathon Woodgate.
Time to get real.
-
Good result today!
BUT
If we had that performance at Fir Park with that margin of victory anytime in the last six years it would be business as usual.
SO
Kojo,
Glad to see you are backing the man – here’s the deal
The players have under performed - NO DOUBT!
BUT
At Ibrox I saw a team that wanted to win – they never believed they could, that’s why we lost, it was our most important match of the season.
NOW
Is it not unreasonable to suggest that when a team takes the field against lesser opposition if they don’t REALLY believe they can WIN the manager is culpable?
Jist a thought!

Kano welcome back you have been missed.

Look at Woodgate now though?
He's over his injures and devestating at Tottenham

SeeBee, I heard about that one earlier.
Ulysses, I’m out of a limb on this one. Some subjects are too important for lobby briefing.

Read the comments on the Naka banner film they are comical and apalling at the same time. Foreigners expressing bemusement and disgust are interspersed with knuckle dragging huns revelling in it.
They just don't get it do they. And why should they when our media are not willing to take them to task. Hatred is like oxygen to them.
Who was the guy who was saying we are nearly as bad as them last night???
-
McGrory 19.25
Why is there no debate about whether or not we need a new manager? For instance, I want Strachan to stay (and win us the league this year) and others want him to go. Surely that alone means there are grounds for debate?
Secondly, I am a wee bit disappointed at the irrational responses to our performances when we win as opposed to when we lose.JVofH scored with a header(and a fantastic shot) today; last week he hit the bar with a header. Skippy scored a good goal today and missed an easier chance last week. Get my point? We really were not really bad last week and really good this week. The difference was simply in taking chances. We were, in fact, dominant for most of both games so let`s keep our feet on the ground. We have only been second best once (Rangers 3-0)but every time we take our chances, too many exaggerate our performance and the reverse is also true ie missed chances equals terrible performance and calls for the manager to be sacked along with everyone but Artur and Aiden. So come on fellow Tims, recognise that we ARE invariably the better side and nearly always create more chances than the opposition. Give the manager some credit for that and support the Bhoys to the hilt and all the way.
The Celtic, the Celtic, the Celtic forever,we`ll win the League once again.

Sorry Glasgowsellick, I was watching Casualty 1907.(A bit gory)He was saying that they were carrying English flags but he was laughing about it.
-
GL2, etc. - I said before the last Ipox game that we were back in the old Wattie routine. We were always going into Glasgow derbies needing to win, where they could tolerate a draw. Mostly, we got mugged 1-0.
That's what happened in the first half at the last game. God only knows what happened in the 2nd half - we were dire.
Watching the Lisbon Hoops early in the 2nd half on Thursday, reminded me of a game at CP where we had about 8 or 9 corners on the trot. The Flying Pig, Gough, etc. managed to keep us out with goal line clearances and eventualy beat us 1-0.
You can see where I'm going with this, but I believe that WE can make the difference on Wednesday night the way we do at home CL games. That and please God scoring FIRST!
There is no other option than to score early and have them chase an equaliser.
Remember how we felt when Lambert's screamer hit the net in the 2-0 New Year game? We knew that we had broken the usual cycle of events....time to do the same again on Wednesday.

ttt..spot on an intresting concept get them chasing..im for that

Interestingly, when you type the words into google it also brings up a link to the evening times website.
Am going to do a bit of digging to see where it appears, but it seems to buried deep in the code somewhere.
-
Just saw the Naka banner. I won't say I am surprised at them unveiling it, as they are morally reprehensible scum, no other words to describe it.
These are scum who were hand selected by the club and given free tickets to represent them. Ed dont defend them, racist scum.
Remember ITV is the station who sacked Ron Atkinson for his racist comments on Marcel Desailly. Yet it is ok to laugh and joke at an anti-Japanese slur ?
Darcheville chucks spears ? Cousin is a cannibal ? Are these the sort of banners we should have ? Can you imagine the outrage ?
Why is no-one at the club addressing this ? I am sure UEFA will have something to say. Note in France PSG are the subject of an investigation into an unsavoury banner at their recent Cup Final win.
-
Tony B/all,
I stumbled across this. Have a look.
knuckle draggers
Anyone who suggests that any element of the Celtic support is not that far away from them is way out IMO.
Scum of the earth.
-
awalk - wait until I tell Paul Buchanan that you missed out one of my t's!! ;-)
SeeBee - was this plonker trying to do a Stuart Cosgrove type 'humorous' article or was he being serious about the bead-rattling term? Let's get this MoFo sacked.
Naw - let's pressurise OUR club to get him sacked.
I've asked on here before, but where is our big bad chairman and what the hell is he doing for his considerable salary? If he's not using his political clout for our benefit, then he really is a DD flunky.
I'll be man enough to apologise if we find out that he is actually doing some serious lobbying on our behalf.

My dear,dear,dear,dear friend Chairbhoy @21.18.
Nice to see you on line..
I am glad that you are on my side of the playroom...with respect to the backing of our unfairly beseiged Manager.
Regarding your question on the Ibrox defeat...
The whys and the wherefores...
When it comes to psychology, count me out.
Sure, I can dabble,as much as the next fellow, in tracing how the use of psychology, can induce discrete effects and implications, when attempting to govern the outcome of various situations...however, I know as little about it, to realize that most of the time I have no Idea of what I am talking about!
If you hold my feet to the fire... in order to get a straight answer... you will be disappointed.
My feet have proved to be made of the finest fire proof material.
I will leave your question, concerning the Ibrox game, unanswered, pal.
S'Awright?
S'atsaright!
Kojo.
yer pal....who has missed ye.

It was a 'real' article written in observatuonal-criticism mode of Celtic fans' 'slating' (his word) of WGS. In my letter to the Editor I pointed out that, quite correctly, he would not have been allowed to make any such similar reference to Moslems/Jews/Hindus/Masons/Orangemen
-
'Observational' obviously. Must be getting tired.

confession time..just spent the last 2 hours listening to clyde and totally enjoyed it..and keevins/dj/provan/martin/mcguire/walker/wishart/king/broadfoot/speirs/grady/duffy etc nowhere to be seen..is this ok??

can't believe the furore around Hartley on here
Is this the guy who gave away possesion for their goal today
OK other than that he played ok. Yes ok nothing spectacular and definitely not the hero he has been potrayed on here.
If we had been beat today then the goal he gave away would have been lambasted and shows another reason why football fans are fickle. Win - all is great and lose - all is terrible.
I am a happier man today despite the fact I don't think we have any chance for the league but my love of the hoops makes my heart rule my head.
I get more frustrated each week though with our Manager. Before the game he was asked the question if we worked harder in training given recent results and his answer was no everything is fine.
He said that the defence is doing a good job as the chances per game is limited. He also says at the same time that the possesion and passes in each game are in our favour (which would probably explain why the opposition have had few shots).
He says that nothing is wrong with the defence and he has told the defence to keep up the good work.
Are you having a laugh Mr S? The reason shots have been limited is because of the amount of possesion we have had (as you say) and not because of the great defence. You also say it is good (and unlucky) that we have only conceded 1.2 shots per game and some goals here and there.
I must take issue with this. I think it speaks volumes of our poor defence that very few chances are turned into goals and the reason is because the defending is so poor that when limited chances come along they are easy to take.
Ironically that is exactly the reason we are not scoring despite many chances. Every time we get a chance it is not clear cut. Because either a) the other team are defending well or b) our passing has created a half chance.
When our defence plays crap (aka Motherwell at home) and let us go 1 down then our chances become harder because when we get them our forwards have more forwards to compete with as the opposition then have 10 men behind the ball.
For Mr S to say that nothing needs working at at training and the fact that the defence are doing just sums up the fact that this man is extremely out his depth.
If Mr S wasn't at our club then today's 4-1 win would have been celebrated rounds the pubs and clubs as it would have been us achieving 3 in a row.
Simple as that.
Mediocrity breeds acceptance to mediocrity and the fact that Hartley is being applauded today speaks volumes to the depths we have gone to.
