I respect your opinion, mate, of course, but I am not saying I am a better manager than Strachan, only that we should HAVE a better manager than Strachan.
Your comment about "whatever he does he upsets people" has merit, but only insofar as what bothers us isn't everything he does but that everything he does IS THE SAME.
I for one would have been delighted today had we gone 3-5-2, or even 4-3-3. Anything to break the montonous cycle of his 4-4-2 which other managers know so well they could counter it in their sleep.
I refer you to my posts concerning the Aberdeen cup defeat. A few weeks before the first we played them off the park in the league. Calderwood adjusted his tactics accordingly for the cup game, amongst them giving McGeady a man marker in Alan Maybury. Our most creative player was almost totally marked out of the game that day.
The return match at Parkhead? Strachan fields the EXACT SAME TACTICS, putting McGeady up against the EXACT SAME PLAYER with, predictably, the exact same result. He didn't even have the wit to swap McGeady and Nakamura, which would at least have given Maybury something else to worry about.
That's why I've no faith in him, those games right there, if for no other reason ..... and there are, alas, plenty of other reasons .....
-
Naylor...stated on tv that " we are playing really well"...what a joker
-
Where's O'Dea these days? Is he injured?
Please folks, can we wait and see what happens today before starting to foam at the mouth.
2-1 Celtic.
MON the Hoops!!!

Good to see Mizuno on the bench.
Dont think its the idea pitch for him but he seems to have a matchwinner look about his play.
If we can just look past the WGS bashing just now lads and get behind the team.
-
Dinky:
Agreed on Mizuno, mate. Watching the boy in the reserves, he looks like a star in the making.
-
james f
exactly right if you cant vary your tactics when the existing tactics are not working then what hope is there
the fact that they keep saying that there is nothing wrong and that we are playing well worries me more
if he cant see that we've been crap last 5 games then there is no hope
its his im right you are all wrong attitude taht gets me
-
GM - beat me to it. There's plenty of us would love to vent our spleens - and for the second week on the trot.
Let's leave it until after, who knows they might even surprise us!

james forrest;
fair point well made.
i do think, however, that in order to have a correct attack/defence balance we are better served by 4-4-2. a 4-3-3 is marginally better giving us an extra striker who should be more capable of scoring than a midfielder.
if 3 subs are used today, i would expect sno, samaras and another to be used. having watched mizuno in the reserves, i'd love to see him come on today.
but that's up to strachan to decide ;o)
-
Mornin all
Good to see both Robson and Hartley out thee today. Scott Browns suspension is a blessing in disguise. He would have been out there again if WGS was able to pick him.
Surprised to see Skippy though. The Skippy-JVoH partnership has given us nothing for weeks.
If we're down 1-0 with 5 mins to go maybe he'll throw on Mizuno to save the day. Hurchinson's failure to do so last week sees him dropped from the subs bench.
Rant over.
Come on the Bhoys.

Pitch looks a disgrace.
JVoH predictably penalised for jumping for the first high ball sent up the park
-
Good run and shot from Aiden - just over.
-
i would not fancy making a slide tackle in the middle of that pitch... in fact, i'd rather make a slide tackle on dunfermline's old plastic pitch. you wouldnt lose as much skin and flesh...

this pitch is murder

10 mins. Celtic have opened well, Scott McDonald just had a deflected shot knocked wide.
The central midfield of Robson, Hartley is working well.
-
good pressure
Naka getting on the ball encouraging

Similar start to last week - All Celtic so far

Very strange - don't hear any booing for Brian MacLean. A player born in Scotland, but he chose not to play for the Scottish national team.

17 mins. Goal for Celtic!
McManus header from the second touch off a free kick.
-
Just as the cross came over for the goal my internet stream to the Radio Scotland commentary broke - it's a conspiracy I tell you!
-
FK crossed into box was well won by Caldwell who knocked it high into the air. Mick charged the ball and bundled it over the line, clearly with his arm - not his head as it first looked.
We'll take it though.

Much maligned MCManus captain scores against Motherwell

pastyface, that would be me. unfortunately, i never bet on celtic.
just waiting for it to finish 4-0 now...

Enjoyed your earlier post, Ian i B.
We all want Celtic to do well but how we differ is in our response when things are not going as we want. So ask yourself a simple question: What helps the team/Club more when we are not winning/playing well; is it continued support or continued criticism? By all means decide that you want rid of x,y or Strachan but surely now is not the time to be negative. Rangers glean unquetioned support from all areas, Celtic can only rely on us fans. Don`t let them/us down.Be positive and start today.
This is actually the last post on tgw previous topic. Seems appropriate fr here, though. Good start and good work from Caldwell and Mick for the goal.

og Mcmanus terrible dfending

24 mins. Goal for Motherwell, 1-1.
Breakaway after Hartley lost the ball inside the Motherwell half.

And that sums up our season.
What a joke these players are.

Good move from them coming straight through the middle of our defence. Mick should have cleard it off the line but somehow managed to kick it into his own net.

he was 2 yards from the line
it was going wide ...awful

Great ball by Aiden to set up Naka but the ball was taken from him just as he was about to fire home

Having said that, great breakaway move by the two Motherwell players.

Have to say,the place is mobbed.
Good to see.

hartley dithered and lost possession. from there on in, it was virtually un-defendable.
i doubt mick knew it was heading wide. he tried to clear if but failed. if he left it and it bounced of the turf and gone in he'd be slated.

Cross into box was headed up into the air by a 'Well defender. Skippy volleyed it into the corner from about 10 yds - excellent finish, aided by a deflection maybe

Excellent finish from McDonald.

Just got in having missed the start. Glad to see we have returned to goalscoring form.
The pitch is an absolute disgrace. I would compare it to a parks pitch but that would be unfair to parkies everywhere. I've never seen such a mess as the surface for a top class game.
-
Good game so far. Corner to us

Jordan 78
We should have had a penalty for that.Shocking referee.

Robson hand ball had Mark McGhee raging.

Robson with a nice volleyball play - everyone in the ground saw it except the ref.

Credit to the bhoys today. Playing some good football on a pitch that amounts to little more than a beach

Eldiegobhoy
I'm all for criticism (the defending for the 'Well goal didn't sound great), but balanced criticism, please - I didn't see you post any praise after either of the two Celtic goals.
Is it my imagination, or did the Radio Scotland commentary increase by a few decibels at the equaliser and go down by a few at both of Celtic's gaols?

Commitment levels look good from the bhoys today. Robson and Hartley are working hard in the middle.

why is it clearly a foul when its for well
but when its celtic the player knew it was coming?
ask scott booth
-
Sometimes I've been asked by one man or another
Why do I follow Celtic, why do I take the bother
But he must be a fool, who would ask me such a question
So then how can I explain, try to tell him what he's missing
And it's 1, 2, 3, Celtic for me
Not a team in the world like the Celtic
If a man has never seen Glasgow Celtic when they're playing
He mustn't have a soul, mustn't know what he is saying
And if he's never heard when the Celtic crowd is cheering
Then there's nothing I can say but he must be hard of hearing
And it's 1, 2, 3, Celtic for me
Not a team in the world like the Celtic
When Celtic are in Parkhead I am proud to be there with them
Soon they play again but sadly I do miss them
They're the team for me, their could never be another
And then some fool wil ask, why do I take the bother
And it's 1, 2, 3, Celtic for me
Not a team in the world like the Celtic
So if anyone should ask and you want to give a reason
Tell him go and find himself a ticket for the season
And when he's been to Parkhead and seen the Celtic playing
Well it won't be very long until you will hear him saying
Why do I take the bother
And it's 1, 2, 3, Celtic for me
Bit more committed today

Trying to listen online, anyone else having difficulty listening to Radio Scotland online?
Any other links to it than the main bbc site?
-
if naylor and caldwell score today then god is on our side. the much maligned are stepping up to their respective plates today.
in the 2nd half our best player will be operating on the best part of the park. the more mcgeady sees of the ball, the more goals i'd expect.
-
Can I ask how many of the Caldwell haters have seen him having a bad game in the last 8 or so games?
-
Can't fault the attitude and commitment today. First class.
We're playing at a tempo Motherwell can't live with.
Still looking a bit fragile at the back, but we'll probably score a couple more.
-
Lol sounds like Radio Scotland are being their usual unbiased selves! Thank God I have the telly on!
Better performances today, although Hartley's pass for the equaliser was awful.
Big Jan ..... great header from him.
And yep, that pitch is an outrage.
-
3-1 up and deservedly so. We're playing reasonably well with the midfield winning a greater number of 50-50's than in recent weeks. Our passing is also decent despite the pitch.
Same old problem though and another statistic for the manager. Motherwell have had one attack and one goal. Hartley lost the ball cheaply in the middle of the M'well half but Caldwell created the opportunity for them by selling himself on the halfway line. Really poor defending again in our central defence.
Our defending needs a 2 goal cushion. Fortunately we've got it.

HT Motherwell 1-3 Celtic
Champion first half from the Bhoys. Why why why can we not play like this every week. There has been a clear difference in tactics today with Robson and Hartley shoring up the midfield and lot's of high balls played into their box. All 3 of our goals have come from crosses into the box rather than us trying to walk the ball in with Aiden and Naka. The more direct approach has paid dividends.
Our 1 piece of slack play resulted in a goal for them which just about sums up our luck in recent weeks.
Let's get back out and finish this game off in style
Player ratings - 10 for everyone except Naylor and Hinkel who get 9. Boruc will be cold out there as he has had nothing to do.
