Nakamura ate my racism and used it as inspiration

If Carlos Cuellar had not intervened with an attempted Hand of God, but what will surely become known as the Hand of Dog moment, Shunsuke would have scored two fabulous goals against Rangers, a team he has often been accused of failing to perform against.

After being subject of a racist banner displayed by Rangers fans during one of their recent consolation games for being knocked out of the Champions League, Nakamura answered in the most effective fashion possible with the best goal Celtic have scored against Rangers since Shaun Maloney hit the same spot in 2005.

The racist slur, of course, was not limited to Japanese people, but treated a significant portion of Asia as the one entity, so it is perhaps not surprising that Karma kicked in so quickly.

Paul you asked for a European home performance. We got exactly that.

Brilliant last night. Watching from my living room the atmosphere sounded much more intense than usual and it was fantastic the way Celtic found the stomach for a fight after the equalising goal.

Well done to Gary Caldwell for persevering and pushing forward till the end.

Barry Robson must retain his place.

It is strange the way things are working out. There are a lot of fans who want a Hinkle O'Dea McManus Wilson back four. This might well happen due to GCs spat with Weir.

It was also good to see our bhoys getting stuck into the Rangers players at the end. Im not advocating violence on or off the field but I amoungst others have accused our players of lacking a bit of bite in the past so I have to say I enjoyed watching us refusing to lie down to their players AFTER the game as well as during it.

Sorry if I am going over old ground, havent read comments since 1.00am but why did Jvoh not take the penalty.

If he does not have the nerve in that kind of game then Scot, despite missing should be our regular pen taker. The bhoy has bottle and plenty of it.

    Hail, hail

Sober now, but still delighted with that result.

Celtic played as a real team last night. You could see that throughout the match. They were playing for each other and for the manager and for the fans.

Nobody can say this team don't have bottle.

    Outstanding.

They've proved they can pull big results out when required. Keep doing it.

And hopefully, injuries and red cards for Rangers important defensive players will cost them points against other teams.

My personal highlight of last night was the Setanta interview with the Carmyle Cardigan after the match.

He was visibly gutted, his eyes very misty with near tears.

More than anything, I just wanted a response from Celtic last night. We got it, lost it, then got it again in the dying seconds of the match and subsequent post-match brawl.

The first half was a delight, as powerful a response from a Celtic side in a game against them as I have seen in many year. 1-0 at HT was a travesty of justice. 3-0 would have been more reflective of our dominance.

Rat-boy's goal was not unexpected but I became instantly concerned because it seemed to knock the stuffing out of our Bhoys. Chins hit the chest and the lack of leadership became evident.

Naka stepped into the fray once again proving that although form may be temporary, class is permanent. Despair with penalty, it was all wrong from the start.

I was aghast when the MOTM was taken off, convinced that either Hesselink of McDonald should have walked. I stand corrected.

My overriding concern about our side is that, as a team, a collective, we seem fractured. Our rivals are low on skill and technique but it cannot be disputed that they are a team. You get the impression they would kill for each other. I couldn't say that about Celtic but the post-match brawl might address that.

It was the first time I saw McManus stare the opposition down, as a team we did not look intimiated any more. Revitalised?

We may not win this league, change in the summer may be inevitable, but I expect Celtic to push on into the last five games with the same fury and drive we witnessed in the minutes before and after the final whistle.

It was a proud, defiant and deserving victory last night. Please keep it going.

The attitude and fight of the players last night was the difference.
Robson and Hartley got right in about them and let them have a taste of their own medicine.

Rangers don't like it up them and the cheating play acting and time wasting worked against them.

If Novo played for anyone but them he would be front page news every week.
    He is a loathsome,sneaky,cowardly cheat.

Whoever is free from the inevitable levelling up of suspensions will need to be as strong. They will be even more up for the next game.
McCulloch had 3 final warning warnings last night and still no red card.
I would take the chance to give Balde and O'Dea a run on Saturday.

Finally I was actually proud of McManus last night.
I have often thought he isn't a captain, but the way he got stuck in at the end last night showed how much he cares.

Whether we win the league or not, a big thanks to the bhoys for last night's performance, PWOULD is how I was for the whole 90 minutes, and that was before JVOH's winner. Definitely thee highlight of the season so far for me.

And Barry Robson's crunching challenge on Christian Daily after 15 seconds, thank you Barry, not quite as good as Naka's goal, but brilliant just the same as it set the tone for the whole game.

Now that Gordon has proved he can beat a Wattie 11, I'm no longer so sure we would be better off without him.

Thank you for your email. Please accept my apologies for the unacceptable terminology used by Kenny Hodgart in his article of last Sunday.

We are currently looking at why this reference was included in the first place and how it slipped through our production system. We are also formulating a response for the newspaper next week. In the meantime I can only sincerely aplogise and assure you we are treating this matter very seriously.

From my seat in Block 113, I could clearly see an object thrown by the huns at Barry Robson as he was about to hit a corner. Couldn't say for definite, but I think it was a potato. The linesman DEFINITELY picked it up.
If there are repercussions for us re. the coin throwing, then I would hope that the same is due for them. The linesman MUST step forward and have Clarke put it in his report.

    Vargas,

As far as I am concerned the majority of those "supporters" got exactly what they deserved - not being able to see and celebrate the winning goal along with the rest of us!

A wee section on Kenny Clark from the big man:

So that was Kenny Clarks last Old Firm game before he hangs up his whistle at the end of the season.
I suspect most people already know my feelings about Kenny. Lets be honest they're not favourable.
He always tried his best but quite frankly, I just dont think the guy was ever good enough to referee at the top level in Scotland. He wasn't alone in that mind you.
Now he's going I'd like to take the opportunity to say that the game is going to miss him.
    I'd like to, but I can't.

Did anything ever happen between them? I like the way he tells it as it is.

speaking of Karma and Asia -

I am now based in Phnom Penh and had to misfortune to share a bar with 3 huns watching the game last night.
One fortunate thing was the bar is split in 2, they were watching downstairs on a big screen and me upstairs.

I arrived just after ko, the bar owner had told me there were a few r#$%^&* fans coming into watch the game.

I was hoping that they would be decent huns and we could have had a bit of banter/discussion.

Oh no..i arrived in the place to see some guy screaming at the screen..his eyes nearly bulging from his head...no meaningfull discussion with this guy I thought.

I moved to the upstairs part of the bar where i watch the game alone and mostly in silence.

I could view them and hear them from where i was sitting. I cannot believe some of the things they were screaming..and i mean screaming, fenian fkrs...papist so and sos, japanese c...s.

What an embarrasment to be Scottish.

Karma indeed when big Jan nodded home.

ssm from last night - sorry to dwell on the negative but since I am supposed to be ashamed...

If you think JVOH was anything other than very very poor then you are deluding yourself. He contribured nothing other than being in a lucky position at the right time. He contributed very little. My GET HIM OFF comment was for the benefit of the team. The fact that he ended up making an important contrivbution to the result was in my opinion, due purely to extremely good fortune on his part

Early in the first half the ball was knocked back across the face of goal only inched away from him and Jan made absolutely no effort to get to the ball for which would've been a certain goal. Sutton, henke or even Skippy would've moved heaven and earth to get that ball. I was disgusted with his complete lack of heart/bravery in that situation. A long long way short of what is required in any game never mind again TFOD to save our season.

Then there was the stupid yellow card. OK it was a kick at Neddy but I fancy that would've been a straight red at Ibrox or with one of the more hardcore MIBs.

I say this not to rain on the parade but with big games coming up he was a passenger tonight and Sammy looks like he has the hunger to do a better job.

That said - still enjoying the result and haven't read a papaer yet!

  • At 17/04/08 11:18, Blogger TheTokenTim said…

    Paul,

With regards to Naka, you are spot on.
I said after the game at Ibrox that I felt that, for the first hour at least, Naka had his best game against them. Last night he surpassed that.

Andreas' movement down the right hand side seemed to give Naka opportunity to roam inside a bit more and this was evident from his position when he struck that fanstastic shot.

I would love to see Naka given a free role to roam as he pleases in the hole between our midfield and forwards. I honestly think he could cause some serious damage in this "position", esp against the rigid formation which rangers play.

I thought it was good to see Mark Wilson actually get ahead of Aiden and give him an outlet as well as take a player away from him - something which Lee Naylor seemed unwilling or perhaps unable to do.
AH did likewise down the RHS with Naka.

Barry Robson was very good - strong, aggressive, calm and composed on the ball whilst also making some good runs attacking them, esp. in the 2nd half - exactly what we have needed in that position. That's why I was a tad upset when WGS subbed him. Obviously it appears that the decision was vindicated, but I could debate that.
Regardless,BR has dome more than enough in the last 2 games to suggest he must be a first choice for the foreseeable future

I think I could probably go throw the whole team, but will refrain from doing so.

Suffice to say, apart from a wobbly 10 mins before and after they scored, we played and acted like a team, something, that for me, has been missing in the last couple of months.

    WELL DONE THE BHOYS!

1 down 5 more to go.

In response to the topic posted - hopefully the intended racial slur will not translate and will be ignored by the media in Japan (particulalry as it is Koreans that breed a particular type of dog that is regarded as a delicacy and not Japanese - and so the connection is tenuous and not evident).

And back to football - If it is the case that weir and cuellar will miss the next game, what options do they have, to play alongside Dailly in the centre; I'd say that they will really struggle and JVoH will be pivotal in dominating a weaker CB pairing. Is it just me or was that an even more defensive starting line-up with two RBs and Daily, an additional defender in midfield. Regardless of the 'anti-football' formation it was clear that naylor and caldwell, in particular, were instructed before the game to be more patient and play the ball to feet and via the midfield.

We will beat them again if we are committed to playing this style of football. Let's put the pressure on them and see how they can respond.

    paul67.. thanks for reply.

I saw a heated discussion between strach & his captain str8 after the penalty miss. Mcmanus ended it by violently throwing his drink canister at the feet of strach.

Mick then went straight to robson and put an arm round him.

The next thing strach did was sub robson!

Wonder if anyone else saw this.

(can I say Im delighted to see that kind of passion & determination....strach's big failing for me is that he tries to 'overcoach'.....coaching is fine but you must combine it with passion and a physical presence)

Finally can I also say Ive been a critic of Caldwell..... so credit where its due... I THOUGHT CALDWELL WAS IMMENSE LAST NIGHT!

    Morning All...

The day seems especially bright and sunny and I get to give a GIRUY to the knuckle draggers in my work.

Couple of points on last nights game.

    1) was surpised at Barry Robsons subtitution at the time. However WGS position was to do whatever it takes to get us the result on the night. IT WORKED so maybes I should stop being the professional know it all who once won the premiership on Football Manager 2005.

    2) Wellcom to Celtic Barry Robson.I am convinced this guy will go on and play a major part at Celtic...might be too late this season (although hopefully we can win all our games and see what unravells in Mordor). His first minute dunt on Dailly set the tone for the rest of the game and our subsequent handling of the greetin' faced thugs at the end of the match showed that we can handle them physically...there really is not much to fear!

Also - for the more knowledgable bloggers out there.

    1) If Cuellar got a red last night and Weir after the game - why is Cuellar out of our next game with them, yet Weir appears to be out of the SF at the weekend?

    2) I never noticed this at the game last night (too focussed on events on the park)....was the Scotlands Shame banner removed at the request of the huns? If so why?? is this more offensive than the recent slurs on the Catholic Faith (Voodoo no worky) and Japanese People (highlighted by Paul in this article/thread)that have been thrust upon the world in their banners?

If Caldwell and Weir both have 1 match bans does that mean that Rangers central partnership miss our next game against them as its their next league game?

Are the SFA going to look into the events further as even though Weir has his hand around Gary's neck Gary throughs a tame punch at him. He could be in more trouble.

I'm amazed that wee Bazza has manged to come through that unscathed as he as far as I could tell started the whole stramash.

Also where are the misery boys?

Oh What a night! (Is that a song title? :-))

Nakamura's goal was just fantastic; sheer class. His overall play was great too, hopefully he will now have the belief and confidence to show much more of the same or more in future games against Rangers. Well done Naka!

Gary Caldwell for some reason gets a lot of stick on here, but I thought he was superb last night and was my MOTM, just shading it from Naka.

Robson showed plenty of skill and dig, as did Hartley. Last night we had a midfield with a good combination of skill and dig and I was thrilled that we bossed the midfield. McGeady was terrific last night but could still learn a lot from Naka. The chap on here (Sorry, I don't know who said it) who said that Naka is much more economical or 'cost-effective' in his use of the ball has a great point, but I still admire McGeady enormously, who has both skill and dig in spades.

A pity that McDonald missed the penalty, but kept his head up and had a good game otherwise.

JVoH is an enigma and I'm not sure what to say about him, except thanks for the late goal big man!

A shame that Naylor got injured, but thought Wilson did well when he came on.

I think Samaras is a great player with loads of skill, a great footballing brain, a cool head under pressure, and can also mix it into the bargain. I sincerely hope he stays!

Our Captain showed that his nickname of 'Mick'is well-deserved; not just a humorous reference to the wrestler, but a compliment on some of the characteristics he shares with the original Mick. Captain Courageous indeed.

A Big thank you to the whole team last night for their great combination of FIGHT, SKILL, SPIRIT, ENTHUSIASM, and RESISTANCE.

Finally, a big thank you to Gordon Strachan. I was at the Motherwell Game during one of my trips back up to Glasgow to see my parents (I live in Hampshire), and at the point where he substituted McDonald rather than JVoH for Samaras, I just thought "Strachan must go!" However having calmed down from that defeat and reflected on things I think that Strachan must be allowed to continue his good work, just like Sir Alex at ManU. I think bringing Lennon in to help with the teams attitude and motivation shows that Strachan is a student and a learner, and I think we may be starting to see the fruits of this appointment.

I think playing Rangers next on St. George's day is a great day to rub their Union Jack noses right in it!

We still may not win the league this year, but I am glad we are showing now that we will fight to the death!

    Yours in Celtic,

    Jim.

Tut Tut – not what you’d expect from your everyday mason now is it?

Couldn’t help feeling a degree of sympathy for wee Nacho Novo.

His enthusiasm for the cause, his determination, his guile, his attitude, he has them all in an abundance, but somehow, no matter how hard he tries, and no matter how many tattoos he adorns his Adonis like physique with, he is never, ever, not a hope in the hell he will no doubt one day call home – will he ever be a hard man. The man is a boy dick. Always will be. But I just can’t help but admire the way he tries to claw his way above his natural gutter. Shame he’ll never ever know what it is to be a true knuckle scrapper.

I am reading an explanation on other sites that states that, Since Weir was sent off for violent conduct, his match ban is for all competitions and he will, therefore be able to sit out the SC semi-final against St. Johnstone. However, Cuellar's was not a violent offence, so his suspension will apply to their next league game against us. Unless they re-arrange and squeeze in another league game before then, presumably.

Any ref types or rule geeks able to confirm this?

I haven't been up to scratch healthwise for a couple of weeks.
I knocked back a Hospitality invite,And I ain't got Setanta,so I decided to listen to the Radio, crap commentary on BBC,so switched off after five minutes. Why can't BBC get a Commentator Like the old Rugby man Bill McLaren, anyway I decided to read a book until 9-45pm,then went on to CQN,truthfully not having heard the score,It was a revelation,I read every post,in the first half, when Naka scored,I opened a bottle of Cognac, and had the proverbial large glass, from what I was reading,Celtic were on top,and by a mile,it read that we were actually playing good football.

The second half, when I read that Novo was coming on,The thorn in Celtic's side in Many a game, then he goes and scores a goal, then the missed Penalty,Cueller getting sent off helped, but depression was setting in,A bit heavy handed on the pouring of the Cognac, and at the gibbering stage when we went passed the 90th minute,I'm inclined to gibber when I've had a few. Then the sublime moment of it all,WE HAD WON,I've never felt better for weeks.

If, at 9-45pm I had switched on the tele updates,I could have got the result, but I would have missed all the excitement of the updates from CQN,First time I've experienced that,I'm usually at the game.

Thanks to all the posters who were on duty last night,I don't think you realise the smashing job you do.

I wouldn't expect you to be a fan of Smith. I'm not either.

My point was that it was good to see him hurting. How many times have we seen him put one over on Celtic and look very smug about it.

He and his team are under pressure now, they aren't getting everything their own way, so I think the media should be asking difficult questions like 'Why have you got a team of defensive minded cheats on the park?'

He's managing the talents he has to the best of his abilities so fair play to him, but I did enjoy the schadenfreude of seeing his eyes fill up after a late winner for the Celtic.

    McGrory,

MAYBE the discussion you saw take place between Mick and Gordon was simply the team manager informing the team captain about the tactical change he was about to make to the team? This was MAYBE then simply relayed to the player about to be subbed ("arm round Robson"). What do think? Is this a possibility? Or does it always have to be something sinister, and ideally critical of Gordon, for you?

Your negativity astounds me, but (as it is constant) sadly does not surprise me.

ssm - can't argue with going 3 up front against the ten men. I would've been more inclined to take JVOH and put Robson into a more advanced position but the three up front worked so happy days.

Assuming we won't be going 3 up front from the start against them on Sunday week , I would like to see Sammy get a start.

Wasn't overly impressed with Skippy either, there is an element of the heidless chicken about him but at least gives 100% and set the goal up magnificently. His penalty wasn't too bad, if the keeper goes the wrong way he looks like Zico but he was unlucky enough that a supposedly injured keeper made a leap that Carl Lewsi would've been proud of to make the save.

Yesterday evening I was late in getting back from work. Thank god for no speed restrictions on autobahns. I managed to get home and the TV switched on 5 minutes before kick off. They were panning round the stadium as the Celtic support was in full voice. It always brings a lump to my throat. I dont know why; jealousy ? that I am not there, my people doing me proud.... but as always you are truly a magnificent wonderous sight to behold.

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
    A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
    They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
    In such a jocund company:
    I gazed--and gazed--but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
    Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
    And dances with the daffodils.

A red card for violent conduct means the player misses the next Domestic game regardless of the competition the offence took place in. This is not mandated by the SFA but by FIFA/UEFA disciplinary board. When we beat the huns a few years ago in the cis semi, Lubo and Mols (i think) got sent off for violent conduct and both missed the next game that we won 1-0 when thommo scored (after the referee had given Celtic a throw because Ricksen had tried to steal too many yards as it was originally a rankers throw)

    Cuellar's red card will be:
denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his own penalty area) and means he will be banned for at least one league game and this is ordinarily the next one scheduled. If his red card takes him over the points threshold he may miss more than 1game but these would all be League games as his offence occurred in League competition.

I believe Weir got a yellow and a red card and will miss the Scottish Cup semi-final and then the game versus hibernian as his caution will have taken him over the points threshold so he will accrue another suspension however as his red card ban will have been served(in the cup) his suspension will not commence at the next league game, but the one after. All very complicated

One thing that greatly amused me about the huns cheating last night was how it came back to bite them. Beautiful irony!!

The Scotlands shame banner is a stroke of genius, loved it.

    Just a few thoughts:

    Absolutely thrilled with the result.

I must have watched a differnt game than everyone else last night however:
    1) What dies WGS say at halftime? I can't remember the last time we came out at halftime fired up.
    2) Robson was playing a blinder and was hooked???? Hartley was ok but a number of misplaced passes had nearly cost us. Why keep on our defensive midfielder anyway if you wanted to add to the strinking options. It's pointless saying that it worked 'cos lets be 100% honest after the substitution we looked worse. Indeed, I like most people could not see us scoring.
    3) Venegoor won loads of balls in the air but there is no understanding between him and Scott. I thought Scott was having a stinker tbh - his first touch is terrible. For me our best partnership is Samaras and Venegoor by a country mile.
    4) For all our domination in the 1st half we created very few chances and it took genius from Naka to get us out of jail
    5) Thought Wilson was much better than Naylor... but most people knew that so why has it taken an injury to get him hooked>
    6) To summarise, I thought we won despite the manager not because of him.

Skippy did my nut in most of the night. The most annoying thing about the penalty miss was he put it to the wrong side. Surely if McGregor is struggling with his left leg, the ball needs to go low & to the keeper's right as he wouldn't be able to push off his left leg to get down to it.

Still, he showed great composure to set up JVOH in the end, so happy days!

Ok this is a complete joke if Ferguson doesn't get sent off, a player can't get away with slapping another professional on the face, almost inciting a riot and God knows what else he got up to in the stramash...

Oh wait, he probably can since it's wee barry!

How can one player get away with so much: fouls, kicking the ball away, back-chat to the referee, squaring up to the referee, pushing players, slapping players... and what? Nothing!! It's a joke and Celtic better find footage and bring it up!

Surely a different camera caught the cause of the tussle at the end of the match, if not there is plenty of witnesses!

He's scum and will probably get away with it... Only in Scotland!

bizzarre that you should say i was negative!
i said i was pleased to see a bit of passion and I saluted caldwell for a great performance.

its possible that mcmanus was relaying instructions but it wouldnt explain the throwing of the bottle or the screaming.

the pen was in the 70th min , shortly thereafter macgregor went down for lengthy treatment. it was during this spell that mcmanus & strach had what seemed to be a 'bust-up'.

I might be wrong but I took it that strach was demanding an explanation as to why robson hadnt taken the pen.
Again, i m guessing but i wondered if the bust up was strach blaming robson and mick defending him.
Immediately thereafter robson (who was arguably our best player) was subbed much to the astonsishment of the fans and the players.

Now if you want me to be negative I could say thats 1 win and 4 losses against Smith. And that aint even close to being good enough! but i wont.........

Before the match I asked for a CL performance and CL support. I wasn't disappointed I'm glad to say.

Surely no-one in their right mind will now suggest that this team is not as one behind the manager who once more called it absolutely right in his choice of substitute.

Special praise for Gary Caldwell who was immense along with Andy Hinkel Barry Robson Aiden and Naka but above all this was a team performance. I repeat a TEAM performance

As to this misconception about a penalty kick taker not being chosen am I not right that Mc Donald took over the duties from JVOH earlier this season and has already converted from the spot? Still it would suit some people's purpose to suggest that there was doubt on the matter. Even in Brittany I knew who was designated to take it.

He said: "We didn't give up and we still had chances after that and we kept on plugging away.

"Credit to wee Scotty, he didn't let his head go down and he put the ball across to Jan who stuck it in. That's what it's all about.

"Jan is normally the penalty-taker so I thought he was going to take it, but he passed it over to wee Scotty for some reason - maybe he was more confident.

"Scotty missed it but it's no big deal, we still won."

McGeady was also involved in an altercation with Novo but was keen to play down the bust-up.

"It was just one of those things that happen in football, a bit of handbags," he said.

    .......

He said: "Everyone in our dressing room has been lifted with this result.

He went on: "It was very satisfying to score because I don't bury many long shots like that one.

"So it is very pleasing that I could do that in such an important game.

As for the spot kick, Naka said: "Jan usually takes our penalties, but he came over to me and asked if I wanted to take it.

"I said no, you take it. But he refused. I still don't know why.

"Then suddenly Scott came over and just took the ball off us.

"I was surprised Jan did not want to take it, "

Time for some cooler analysis of last night's fun and games - no not really! I'm still high after a great win.

Barry Robson was MOM for me. He snapped into tackles, harried them at every opportunity and played some good passes going forwards. He must play every week.

The penalty was almost surreal. Firstly that we got one! Still it had to be the most blatent ever. But then we were discussing who our penalty taker was - no one could remember because it happens so rarely!

I woner why JVoH didn't fancy it? And kudos to Scoot for having the bottle to stand up at a vital time.

But he went the wrong way! McGregor had a bad right ankle at the time so the pen should have gone to his right. There was a shot just over the bar minutes earlier where McGregor could not move to his right. If you watch closely McGregor gambles by diving early to his left off his good ankle. A wee delay and roll it into the other corner ...

Still all ended well. It was strange that, like against Motherwell, there were no signs of the late goal until it happened. But what a way to beat them.

Still a wee chink of light in the league race, but that defeat at home to Motherwell may well haunt us.

So when does the spl announce the rearranged fixtures??

I don't hate many of them as individuals, that would simply be unfair.

However, collectively, and for all the stand for... Hate is not the word.

    Far, far beyond that.

I hate them with all my being. Individually I try to avoid them and collectively I wish them nothing but pain

They are a cancer. I despise them. Hand on heart I cannot think of one good word for them.

They cannot win nor can they lose in a sporting manner. They are a blot on the sport.

They always have been and they probably always will be.

I saw two of them, grown men of course, proudly showing off Ra Hoops on my way to work. It honestly took every fibre of my being to stop myself from hurling abuse at them.

I still hate them as much as i hated them yesterday and i will still hate them the morra and the day after that and so on and so on

I hate them with a passion.... Out and out scumbags the lot of them!!!

I despise them more and more, and interestingly since the 'anti sectarian campaign' began to educate me, and teach me the error of my ways I've hated them more, not less. Utter scum. Why the f*** did we ever let them land here all those decades ago?

lets not let the fact we got a pen and a man sent off cloud another very quiet and efficient bit of cheating by ref yesterday.
Were it not for an inspired celtic performance the league would have been over due to a goal that should never have stood. it is exactly this type of covert cheating we have faced all year. Wee things like imaginery fouls when ball in box in last few minutes of games we are chasing, 3 mins injury time when setanta time a player being down 3 and a half plus 5 subs. little fouls here and there, players not being properly punished, it has happened for years and the tighter the leagues are the more incessant it becomes. Who canforget the davidson incident at tynecastle which in effect was the difference between rangers winning the league that year.
Elbows got away with murder last night (how many final warnings) and captain untouchable is incredible. Surely you are embarrassed edward?

all that makes results like last night even sweeter.
hats off to jvoh the man has barely lost a header in 6 weeks yet some pillor him on here daily.
like hartley and robson he should be a guaranteed start every game for celtic.

Bromley Boy thanks for echoing what I have been thinking for ages - we win despite the manager. How can anyone say that the substitution was correct when we didnt create anything for near on 30 minutes against 10 men.....you cant base all your knowledge and judgement on last minute goals alone....that is just not sustainable....i really dont mind the happy clappers and I quite like the mine shafters (Especially when things that are wrong need to be called out) but the guys that base all their judgement on cold hard stats worry me.

Have to admit, up until the 94th minute, I was putting together an exceptionally negative post last night. But I'm not going to be a party pooper, besides, Last night just goes to show us that it is a sport we play, not a mathamatical equation.Anything can happen !
Special word of praise for Paul Hartley and Barry Robson. Ferguson and Davis were totally anonimous, thanks to the bhoys.
I'm not a fan of Caldwell, but, he was excellent last night, well done.
    McGeady is quite simply, brilliant.
Watch the game again, he used up two and at times three of the rangers team. Even without touching the ball, he takes away the attacking options of the oppositions defence.
Both Skppy and Jan were exceptionally lucky to get the full95 minutes.
That being said, we were lucky they did!
Best comment of the night came from that guy on the Setanta/Radio phone-in. (not the exkeeper).
"If Cuellar was on for the full game, it would have been a draw."
Personaly I reckon if Cuellar had remained on, we would have won 2-1, as Nakas sublime effort would have ended up in it's legitmate spot; the back of the net !!

    Bromley Bhoy,
did you consider that both Gary Caldwell and Andy Hinkel took up much more forward positions when Robson went off, and that was the reason Paul Hartley stayed on. When you also consider that Mark Wilson was getting forward then it was much more important to have PH on the park, as at some stages we were 2-5-3, rather than the 4-3-3 suggested by the substitution.
So cut WGS some slack, he knows a lot more about this than you or I.

On the game itself, I thought everyone was superb, but Robson,Caldwell and Hinkel stood out, and JVOH put himself about and won a lot more in the air than some would have you believe.

The man from Japan was superb though, and we are privileged to have a talent like that at CP.

Anyone seem the Benfica move for Strachan story!

Had me checking what date is was in April again.

Benfica move for unsettled Celtic boss Strachan - April 17, 2008

Benfica are moving for Celtic's underfire manager Gordon Strachan.
The Mirror says the Portuguese club are huge admirers of Strachan, who masterminded a couple of Champions League victories over the Lisbon outfit during his time at Parkhead.

Now Benfica - nicknamed The Eagles - are poised to swoop on Glasgow for the under-fire Bhoys chief who could be in the mood to move on.

Strachan had a great start to his Celtic career and even this season took the club to their best run in Europe for decades, but it is still not enough to silence his critics.

And with Rangers favourites to win the SPL title a move to Portugal might suit all parties, with Benfica making inquiries behind the scenes.

Strachan has told friends he is unhappy with some aspects of the job and is described as 'low' by close pals in the game.

A few comments to my post...

In general, people seem to base their analysis on the final result. I'd like to know what most opinions would have been if the game had finsihed 30 seconds before we scored. Against 10 men we'd barely threatened. The substitution imo seemed to hinder our performance at that stage, hence, the round of booing.

On individual performances thought all the defenders did very well except Naylor... I personally though Naylor wasn't great and Wilson played very well when he came on.

    Export Tim a few responses:

    1) the manager won the game, but half time team talk was rubbish ???

As I said we were particularly poor when we came out in the 2nd half. Lost a goal and it had looked for a bit like coming I thought. In general, this has been a common failing under WGS... I'd love to know what he says at half-time. It doesn't seem to work imo.

    2) Hartley was ok, but loose passes nearly cost the game ??

Yup. Sometimes a loose pass gets punished sometimes it doesn't. In Europe we get murdered for them. Often in the SPL we get away with it. IMO, it's why our players don't learn from these mistakes. They get away with it too often. Again that's why I'm not a great fan of Hartley as a defensive midfileder. Does too many slack passes. I like him as a player. Just don't think he suits the role.

3)the 2 top scorers at the club don't link well ??

Definitely not. Venegoor has been winning loads in the air. Scott's terrible at reading these knock downs. Just because they score goals doesn't mean they link well surely?

4)we SCORED in the first half

Er yes... isn't that what I said?? But it was out of a moment of genius.. Not really any great result of all that domination.

5)Neddo scored past Wilson ( I'm not complaining, just pointing out ) did the huns score past Naylor first half ??

Fair point... Just thought Wilson looked more comfortable. Kind of felt the goal was a bit dodgy.. very aggressive header in the back of ??Scott??.. A number had been punished but not that one.

    6) I'm not even gonna dignify that comment with a response

    Thanks for the response ;-)

Re the Strachan for Benfica story - I love the way the press/media use deadpan lines like "Strachan hasn't silenced his critics" as if to detach themselves from the fact that the bile they themselves have been firing at him for 2.5 years.
But now it suits their "Celtic fan bigots" agenda to write we sympathetic puffs for him.

    OK

If we're down from our highs and capable of analysing our weaknesses, I'm putting in my tuppence worth.

The shambles of passing the buck when we got the penalty has to stop now. I can understand a designated penalty player suddenly feeling nerves but there's a reason you're the designated penalty taker and it's because you're better at handling those nerves in these situations. If you're designated, you take it. End of.

The next Celtic player who gets the chance to take a pen. against Rangers should want to grab the shot at glory with both hands.

I suggest our under-5's team should start practising now. :-)

Neil Alexander will be declared unfit before the match with Fiorentina.

It is obvious how little faith in Smith has in him when he allowed McGregor to potentially aggravate an injury rather than play the sub.

They have form for this - Alexander will be "ill" or "injured" so that Rangers can appeal to UEFA to get another goalie on loan.

Last night it took me ages to fall asleep, I was replaying the game over and over in my head and when I finally did fall asleep I was dreaming about it. Same thing happen to me after Skippy scored the winner in the Milan game and Naka's goal against Manure. Wonderful state of euphoria I was in, someone should bottle it you'd make millions.

Barry Robson was immense last night right from the word go,when he creamed un-christian 20 seconds in. I was particularly impressed with his ability to take an in -swinging corner, he caused all kinds of trouble to the huns with it. I can't wait till the next game as they wont have Ugly Betty and MythGregor, I expect a few goals from his corners.

Like most posters I was stunned when Robson came off, I was hoping for a defender to come off instead but not being a proffessional manager unlike some on this blog it is after the event I can now see why WGS did it. How come when WGS makes a change like he did last night and it comes off and we win, he is just lucky, but if we lose because of bad officiating or the ball hits the post and does not go in or the strikers are off form, then why is WGS is not unlucky. If we say we are a fair-minded support shouldn't it work both ways. Just thought I ask that, no offence meant to anyone in particular.

Someone said if there were less than 5 minutes of injury time left and we lost then everybody on here would be screaming for WGS head for the substitution. That is like saying if the Titanic was sailing to Rio de Janeiro instead of New York it would not hit an iceberg. WGS made a substitution for the sole purpose to win us the game, you know what? we won the game, it worked, nobody can deny that, it don't matter if the goal was scored in the last second of the game or a minute after the substitution. WGS did it to change tatics and win the game, that is what he gets paid to do.

As one who criticises big Mick quite regular I thought he was excellent last night and he looked every inch a captain, hopefully he can build on that performance and continue to prove me and others wrong and force me to change my opinion on him. As for Caldwell I have been a big defender of him on this blog and again I thought his overall performance last night was superb and if people are honest with themselves since January he has been our best defender. I watched the highlights again earlier and besides the part he played in both goals, time and again he was hitting our forwards with with first-class passes, maybe now some people might get off his back and admit he can actually play football.

My biggest fear now is that the game was such an emotional event for the players that they might be looking too much forward to the return match with the huns that they forget that we play two teams before hand.

Lastly as someone who defends posters' opinions regardless how negative they are ( I do enjoy reading them) I am a bit disappointed that some are conspicuous by their absence, they might have legitimate reasons for not posting but all you are doing is providing fodder for your distractors, you do yourselves no favour by not coming on after a good victory. Come on! you know you want to, enjoy the euphoria while you can, they don't sell it in bottles you know.

how are you all on this fine resplendant day?!

here (in my opinion) are thae facts.

In the last 5 games against them we have dominated the match (with exception to the 3-0 game... where it changed after they got 2 up)

there are a few people making dissenting comments like we were lucky to win. It was a fluke and nothing to do with the managers tactics. The players didnt do well they were lucky to be in certain positions at certain times... blah blah blah.

Hang yer heid in shame the lot o ye!

we dominated them from the start of the game. We were the better team, and we DESERVED to win it!

We didnt make clear cut chances after a substitution? CHANCES MEAN NOTHING! GOALS MEAN EVERYTHING!

We might not have made too many chances but we made goals!

Contrary to what a lot of people believe... celtic didnt play flowong football that made chance after chance, and saw us take 5 off of every team during the 60's n 70s'. We found out that teams came to paradise to defend and make life difficult for us. As the filth do now.

WGS has been accused of not being able to change things when its not goin well....
But we pushed our full backs further forward, dropped jebus back to virtually a centre halfs role and played with 2 sweepers, pushing our full backs into midfield and put 3 up front....

we finished the game playing a 343, and apparently its luck that we got a result.

away n gie yersel a good stiff talkin tae!

If the wee man is gonnae take the stick when it go's wrong, at least be gratious enough to give credit where credit is due.

    we won last night.
    Cos tha players were brave.
    And the manager was braver!!

The loan keeper trick of which you speak has been utilised by Wattie before, albeit without the transfer window caveat.

Prior to the Scottish Cup Quarter Final tie 1997 (2-0 Celtic) the Pig exacerbated a rib injury in the warm-up. Deputy Theo Snelders allegedly bottled it and refused to go out forcing Goram to play the full whack.

Subsquently, with Goram injured and Snelders a persona non grata, Andy Dibble, along with Mark Hateley, was brought in for the league tie the following week (0-1).

I know today is not a day for criticism but why did no one force Barry Robson to take the penalty. He was far and away our best player. And why oh why did our manager take him off instead of Hartley, who besides playing poorer (IMO) was already on a yellow card.

Anyway, I felt I saw our next captain playing last night: I give you Barry Robson.

There is a lot more going on in my head but I'm too tired to unravel it and I'm annoyed with myself for being churlish on a day like today.

Well that´s how long I am waiting. I want to bask in the glory and enjoy it. I want to squeeze every last drop of vitamin CFC from it and then scrape it off. Regurgitate it and eat it again and plate lick the Celtic beat Rangers, Strachans Celtic hammers Smiths Rangers until the design on the plate is coming off

After an anti Celtic onslaught that has permeated the air most my life but returned with an historic vengance especially for this season. I ask why shouldn´t I? Why should I contribute any further misery to those that I hope will bail us out of a situation not entirely of their own making. What if we had beaten them at CP on the 2nd of January. The players dont make any budgetary decisions etc.

Everywhere I went it seems I'd been there before
But you brighten up for me all of my days
With a love so sweet in so many ways
I want to stop and thank you baby
I just want to stop and thank you baby

How sweet it is to be loved by you
How sweet it is to be loved by you

You were better to me than I was to myself
For me, there's you and there ain't nobody else
I want to stop and thank you baby
I just want to stop and thank you baby

How sweet it is to be loved by you
How sweet it is to be loved by you

Any sports sections carrying Wattie/Kevin Thomson type snipes at our team today?

Any articles on the reason for the fisticuffs?

Any discussion on why a winning Celtic Captain would start a rammie?

    Any?

Any critical essays on the fact that the darnel can and do act on the field with impunity, when the same actions elsewhere by other teams are punished?

    Any pro Artur Boruc stories?

    None?

    Really?

Thanks Cadizzy, I'm a wishy boy but clearly my humour has been anglicised over the past decade I've been down here. :o)

Nazz- I did some research and the Oakwell Brewery pub you mention is the Magpie, which is just off the Warwick Road so I'll nip in before the Sarfend game on Saturday.

The Beehive has its qualities but I'm afraid the choice of beer isn't one of them.

3 points at both ends of the M74 would be a pretty good end to the week.

Cad- She [MMckee] refuses to sing that song anymore. It's kind of like FSharkey leaving the Undertones to come out with' A Good Heart'

Cadizzy, you should really speak to your union rep! :o) They have lawys against that kind of thing you know...

If this was PSG's fans forum we'd all have gone on strike by now.

Or hit the streets to burn some vehicles!

That Wishy must be an awful big place. What?you mean it's not big?

As everybody knows, God's country is by the Clyde and it rains a lot. The angels are cunningly disguised as anything but and drink Eldorado up a close though hair lacquer and milk is a delicacy saved for Christmas and Fair Friday.

    Yes, God's country is Helensburgh.

itzallova - I have read these kind of diatribes from the dark side a few times and I always wonder what their perception of "and all that they stand for" actually is? This is never actually articulated.

My own reaction is that I don't get too worked up about those kind of rants as the chap is abviously a raving psycho who is just embarrasing his own club with that kind of stuff. More fool him.

What does anger me though, is the media apologists who should know better who sweep this stuff, the banners, singing, potato throwing etc. under the carpet and then come after us all guns blazing, for example making stuff up about us wanting our manager sacked because he's not catholic or that we were singing IRA songs in Barcelona.

You suggested recently the time was right for Gordon Strachan to go,do you still feel the same regardless of whether we win the next old firm game as well?

I agreed with you at the time and still do, just wondered if you had retained your stance

    Subt- jamais, jamais, jamais!

But man does not live on 21st Century French politics alone..

By sheer co-incidence 3 of my alltime great heroes are called Harris- Emmylou, Bob and Air Marshal Sir Arthur.

As far as I'm aware I have no heroes called Nacho.

DBBIA, I recall she said that she hated Feargal's version though not quite as publicly as Costello pleading on radio to Linda Ronstadt never to sing any of his songs again. Ironic now, given the amount of time he has since given to country music.
