Season reaches critical point for top five

While I would have preferred a different result, 90 minutes plus extra time was what I was hoping for from Hampden today.  While Rangers are a much better team than St Johnstone, the effects of so many games away from home is beginning to have an effect.

I was hoping for a Hibs win at Tannadice which would have put them into third place in the league.  The remain fifth, level on points with Dundee United and a point behind third placed Motherwell, who have a couple of games in hand.

Hibs entertain Rangers in two weeks which looks like a must-win game for them if they are to finish third.  A win for Celtic on Sunday would really put pressure on Rangers.

    Close but no cigar.
They are a team that has hit the wall and are running on empty.
Who do they play on the left of midfield now that Adams, McCulloch, Naismith and Buffel are all injured?

It's actually all going to plan....

apart from their dent in our Scottish Cup Final appearances record....

    Record Holders - 53 (won 34)

Runners Up - 50 (won 31 with one outstanding)

Hun progress was inevitable when it came down to penalties (ie the one they inevitably got in extra-time).

Why did Jody Morris smile when he missed ? No doubt the media will insert the word 'ruefully' in that question.

They're toiling big time and they know it.

We've had them for supper, let's do lunch......Italian starter ? Why ever not ?

Interesting how the mainstream media did not highlight the two Celtic disallowed goals as much as the one Aberdeen goal, should we be surprised?

Hibs have the added bonus of Rangers coming to Easter road after an away tie in Italy.
Hibs wont have a better chance to beat them, than now.

The amount of games they have coming up,will hopefully burn them out.

The reason I asked about your engine was,we have a K3 in our boat, and it's a bit dour to start just now,if you had a similar engine, you could maybe have given us a few tips.

The next two weeks fill finish them off...

McGregor - OFS? Out for season
    McCulloch OFS
    Burke OFS
    Naismith OFS
    Adam OFS
    Ferguson injured
    Thomson recovering from injury
    Smith recovering from injury
    Weir suspensions looming
    Cuellar suspensions looming
    Broadfoot suspension looming

Dailly, Davis, Whittaker, Darcheville Novo are all knackered whilst Buffel Hemdani and Cousin are mentally AWOL

If we cant win the league from here then sadly we have to admit they deserve to win it.

It's been a good week. A St J victory would have made it a great week for the added blow to morale, but extra time was a good result in itself.

Next Sunday is another crunch game. A display like we had on Wednesday and we could be on the way. And Fiorentina ending the Euro run could only help...

If Hartley is injured next week, I would play Caddis at the back, push Hinkel into midfield on the right and shift Naka inside with Robson. Naka can desroy them thru the middle knowing Robson is behind him and with Hinkel and McGeady trying to get behind them on the wings...

I have to agree with you, Paul. A wee victory from St Johnstone was maybe a bit too much to hope for but taking them to penalties has to have been energy sapping. A good result for Fiorentina and then a big win for ourselves should put a whole new complexion on things. Maybe Lady Luck is beginning to shine on us, even if it is very late in the day...

Congratulations to St Johnstone. They may not have won but I don't think many would have xpected them too. But I hearty congrats for taking them to another 30 hard fought minutes. Another 30 leg tiring, muscle sapping minutes. Unlucky in the end but 30 extra minutes is all I was hoping for.

Dennis 47, the more I see Cadis the more impressed I am. He is certainly one for the future and finally we have plenty of cover for the RB position. 3 right backs that I would trust to play any given day in Hinkel Caddis and Wilson.

    Sir Paul

I raved about Paul Caddis, yesterday, and I will continue to do so,today.

This young fellow me lad, MUST retain his place in the Team.
Whether in his favoured position.. at right back.... or elsewhere.

He is a find of Comstockian proportions!

    Howevvvvvvvvvvvvvah...

He is just a trifle on the small side...although...he is the best TACKLER, that we have!
His Judgment in just when to put his foot in...is impeccable

    And for the Second time...a....

    Howevvvvvvvvvvvah....

He is a natural MID-FIELDER... In MY OWN UNHUMBLE OPINION.

He would shine, pushing forward from the Mid-Field...

He has super ball control.. a foist Touch ,that is Not the least bit... Touchy!
He is Brimming with Football intelligence.
He is also swift of foot.

    And ..........here is the kicker.

    He seldom WASTES A PASS!

Yesterday,I noticed that very salient fact, in Particular.

And his crosses are very dangerous.

I need to slow down, and take a breath!

    Time out!

    Now where was I?

Yes.... Now the only drawback that I can see...is the INTRACTABLE ..... SLOW WITTED... TIRESOMELY SHORT-SIGHTED POLICY... that is in force at the present time at Parkhead...of

SIMPLY REFUSING TO GIVE YOUTH A FAIR CHANCE...

AND IT STEADFASTLY, STANDS IN THE WAY!

    Hinkel will be back...
    Naylor will be back...
and although, Master Brown could not be considered to be UN-YOUTHFUL..in any shape or form

HE WILL BE BACK ,as well.

Frankly, I would encourage bids in the comming Summer Window, for our Very Disappointing 4 Million Pounder!

Although, Meanwhile, BACK AT THE FARM....and this may be NOOS, to some folks...

IN the Celtic RESERVE TEAM, presently...

The BEST CELTIC MID-FIELDER ...at least, one who plays like he MEANS it.... IS...

    MASTER MARK MILLER!

He is STREETS AHEAD OF DONATI!

He is At least....TWO AVENUES ahead of Master BROWN...

    MARK MILLAR IS A WINNER...

    But, But,But...

    What's the use,pal....

We certainly do not need a change in Managership at Celtic.....

But, we do need a little more...

    INNOVATIVE THINKING....

When it comes to giving consideration to Promoting from within...

...instead of...we are stoically determined to
Look EVERY WHERE ELSE... than in our OWN

    ORCHARD.... for Plums.

    Kojo.

After the defeat at Ibrox i thought the league was gone, after the home defeat to M'well i was sure it was over. I am now convinced that victory next Sunday will swing the balance back in our favour, they will implode. They are so 1-dimensional (even more so than us), have no one who can do something a bit special (like Aiden or Naka) and today they looked dead on their feet. Their first choice team is average, their fringe players second rate. Hibs, M'well & DU will all take points from them in the coming weeks.

Don't get me wrong Aiden definately deserves his awards and getting them from fellow pro's must add to their importance but why not wait till end of season and announce these things. Even the ones last week for the stinkies, it is just nuts, why so soon but also why at all did they win them. Goal of the season was also given out night pre-celtic v them to Willo Flood who did score what was an outstanding goal but then folloowing night Naka's strike outshone Willo Floods by some length. Why? Why? Why?

I am not a liar, and I DO have a good Memory. The reason I remember this one so well, from perhaps around a year ago, is that you lost most of my respect with that comment. I concluded then that you are a cyber wind-up merchant who ostracises himself from a lot of our fellow bloggers with your desire to fuel debate on this blog by lighting the blue touchpaper in many debates. I think this is a great shame because you are a very regular contributor on here and obviously a clever guy. I won't ask whether you might think it better to have your blog comments read by a wider audience, because I think you have stated on here that you are not in the least concerned with what other's think of your comments.

I unfortunately didn't see the Aberdeen Game, but I hope you are spot-on about Caddis.

    Yours in Celtic,

    Jim.

    My dear,dear,dear,dear friend..six

Sorry for my tardiness in answering your posting...

Yes... it pleases me that you are of the same mind, regarding the many splendid things that Master Caddis offers, in return, for his inclusion in the Celtic Foist Team.

    Speaking of Mark Miller.

I am deadly serious... which is far more deadly than merely serious....
When I tellya the Mark Miller is the next best thing to come up the freeway... since...well.. Master Caddis.

This young guy has the same thing that young Charlie Grant( Who, unfortunately,is still not back to full fitness) has...

    And that soiten sumthin'.. is

SUCCESSFUL DRIVE!.... which is a whole plateful of Tilapia away from mere DRIVE!
Something that has been missing for eons in the Celtic Mid.

    DRIVE is easy....

    Even Master Broon has that!

But knowing where you are Driving To?...
    Aha!

    Now that is something else.

And both Charlie and now... Mark have it aplenty.

It would be to your benefit if you took in a Celtic Reserve Game, Re-Run on Chan. 67...if you have that service available..

And you will see with your own eyes...that I do not exaggerate, regarding the talents of Mark...and also why I claim that the Best C.B.prospect since Billy McNeill... is in the Atheltic Shape of Scott Cuthbert.

    Honest, Native American!

    Kojo.

Great news about Aiden. He has matured into a fabulous player this season; the benefit of some hard work as well as natural talent.

Awalkacross, if we reposted some of the comments about Aiden from a year ago we would all learn a lesson about the development of young talent. One particular comment, “the Peter Grant of the new millennium” sticks in the mind.

Kojo, I firmly believe that our new found purpose has had an enormous amount to do with the central midfield berth of Barry Robson.

However, I too believe that Scott Brown will return to the team when his suspension is spent, something I am not in favour of.

Moonbeams, our chief web architect, Martin, has been busy on the move this weekend. The problems have been overcome, it is just the leg work to complete, which will hopefully happen this week.

Will keep a trained eye on yon Mark Miller -thanks for the nod.

"But knowing where you are driving to" - loved that!!

If you are referring way, way, way, back... to over a Year ago...then you are correct...

In that I did very VEHEMENTLY, and without my Usual Equivocation.. announce to all Christendom, of my UTMOST DISPLEASURE... In how Master McGeady was Performing at that time...

To be frank ...I was so disappointed at his complete back- sliding in form.. because he had/has previous shown and Promised, such potential...

At that time Master McGeady was a Huge disappointment to me.. and I was not slow in saying so....

    But.... and this is a big,big But,pal...

I Nevah Once referred to Master McGeady as a BUM!

    Howvevvahhhhh ..

Master McGeady has subsequently re-adjusted and improved his act... and has since joined the Ranks of my favourite players...along, with Mr.CALDWELL..whom, I have been praising to the skies for several WEEKS!

I hope that this info.is of some help, in making my present opinion of Master McGeady more clear to you.

    In plain Mucked-up English..

I ,Kojo, of sound mind and body,am ... Of the Unalterable opinion, that MASTER MCGEADY IS OUR BESTEST PLAYER OF ALL....Even , NAKA..
    and that says it all!

Thought Paul Caddis performed well yesterday but to suggest that at this point in his career he should start ahead of Andreas Hinkel or Mark Wilson is nonsense.

Interesting comments about Caddis today, I fear the expectations are overtaking the reality of the situation. Sure, he has promise, but let's not forget he was hooked at half-time against Barcelona.

Mark Wilson should remain at left-back even if Lee Naylor is fit, and if Hinkel does not come back from his hamstring tweak then Caddis should start, especially as their left side is extremely weak just now, however I think GS would bring in Naylor and play Wilson at RB if Hinkel is not fit.

I hope the game is close on Thursday, if Fiorentina come over and win 3-0 or something crazy, Rangers will field a weakened team in Italy and concentrate on the league. I am hoping for a score draw or 1-0 victory to Fiorentina.

I noticed on the main page of Follow Follow they are saying we played league fixtures after the end of the season on multiple occasions in the early 70's, and that Dundee United played a game after the official end of season during the UEFA Cup final run. Anyone confirm this?

The vast majority of people on here who praise McGeady, remind me of the golfer who owns the world driving distance record, his average drive beats Tiger Woods by 40 yards.

I suppose the question would be why isn't this guy the best golfer in the world, in fact why can't he even play on the PGA Tour.

The answer is, that is the only skill he has. McGeady is the same.

Compare his attacking OPTA statistics with every other player in the side. I haven't but would bet a reasonable sum of money the average of all attacking stats would be poorer than the far more criticised on these boards:

    Jarosik
    Gravesen
    K.Miller
    Beattie

and McGeady isn't even the best in the world at the one thing he is good at and while he is coveted by the blind he will only ever be good at one thing.

The Peter Grant for the new millennium.

Is it the dance of the 7 towels you're doing?

A few weeks back you surrendered the league now it's back on again.

You've also told us that Celtic FC cannot attract any promising young talent. Now Caddis and Miller are the real deal.

You're less constant than Scarlett O'Hara with a fit of the vapours after she's been diganosed with ADHD and mislaid her Rytalin!

You're harder to pin down than a subatomic particle when Heisenberg took his eye off the ball.

You're as regular as a 20 stone darts player who eats only pig meat and processed dairy foods.

How about picking a position and sticking to it for 5 minutes?

    My dear,dear,dear,dear friend, Craxa...

What you have brought up as a reason against Promoting Young Caddis to a more Permanent berth in the PRESENT Celtic Team... is based in the PAST...

Now anybody who has any familiarity in my sentiments of dwelling or referring to the PAST... Knows to their sorrow, how much I decry that type of Attitude...
    FORGET THE PAST...

Although, to be replaced at Half-Time against Barca is no blot on Master Caddis copybook... in fact to be even selected at such a young age in such an important event..speaks volumes as to his potential..

    Howevvaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah...

That was THEN and THIS IS NOW...

And Judging by his outstanding Performance.... CURRENTLY....'

His Performance in the RECENT game....
    Shouts from the ROOF TOPS...

That HE HAS ARRIVED... and we would be more than foolish to dwell on how he performed in the PAST.

I tell you this..without the least Hestitation...

IN MY OPINION... CRAZY AS IT SEEMS TO THE WISE MEN WHO TRAWL THIS SAINTED BLOG...on the Constant and VIGILANT look-out for CRAZY WOIDS...

    Master Caddis is A much,much,more

    Better and PROFITABLE PROSPECT...
    Than either..

    Mister WILSON or Herr HINKLE!

That is the Bald and Bold TRUTH....

    as... I SEE IT......anyway!

    CONGRATULATIONS AIDEN!
Well deserved this season, and if the reported quip is true (although I have a feeling awalk was using some artistic licence there), even better.

But I would like to see him save his put-down for on the park next week and rip that wee bassa to shreds along with whomever Wattie sticks on at right back!!!

As to the possible inclusion or otherwise of Scott Brown, there should be no debate based upon the recent displays by Barry Robson and Paul Hartley. I happen to think that Scott Brown is definitely worth keeping and we will see the best of him next season, but right now Robson MUST start on Sunday.

Forget the past, but don't ignore it, it teaches us things, you can't reflect in the present, only on past events!

And on reflection, we had the same words, the same praise, the same judgements, after a fine game by young Caddis against Kilmarnock.

On reflection, he was not ready for Barcelona, or the pressures that come with the first-team. I think these cameos are a better preparation for his future, he will be in pre-season plans, and he can push on next season.

Evening all, glad to see that Rangers deterioration is accelerating, the fingertip by which they have been winning games by is about to snap, great to see Aiden get the 2 awards, hopefully this will give him a little boost for Sunday. On another topic, I noticed that if either Liverpool or Barcelona (with the current league positions) win the CL then the winner of our league, will have to play a qualifying round and given last seasons draw not the guaranteed 10m every one has been talking about, whether the situation is good or bad for Celtic is hard to know given our current predicament.

On the Caddis debate, I thought he had a fine game and much like Wilson held onto the ball well and supported their midfielders at every opportunity. I hope that out of them both & Hinkel, one remains on the bench whilst the others are played, leaving Naylor in the stands.

Do you think he is a realistic target for us both in terms of the money it would take to sign him and the "pull" of the SPL and Celtic in general? Esp. considering the popularity of Spartak in Russia.

Are there any other players worthy of a mention playing in the Russian league? Considering the defenders coming out of there (Skertl, Vidic, Ivanovic) it could be a market worth entering.
