Welcome to the all new Celtic Quick News!

As well as a new design we have (at long last) moved away from the Blogger comment engine, which has caused us so many problems in recent months.  If you commented previously using a Blogger account, you will need to register again with our super new blog engine that I am hosting along with the rest of the site.

I would like to offer a big thank you on behalf of all Celtic Quick News users to Martin, Andy, Bob and Hodgers, who have all worked on the move in recent weeks (and in some cases months).

Thanks also for the kind comments left on the previous article.  We still have lots of new features to come on the new site, and we'll get the archive of old articles and comments linked in shortly.

Nice fonts Paul.

I miss blogger. Kind of Stockholm syndrome I suppose.

Am I in? Hail hail, looks good Paul even better with the title in the trouphy room 3 in a row !

Congratulations Paul on the new format,

Does this mean that we will be able to see all our pals lurking now ?

Mouldy67

Long long time lurker - reading the thoughts and nonsense of fellow fans on here help get me through the day at work. Seriously, hours of entertainment! Figure now's as good a time as any to get myself a login with the new site layout (seeing as we're all coming out of the woodwork), before I fade back into lurking.

For what it's worth....I fall into happy clapper camp and think Mr Strachan is doing a great job - with title number 3 just about in the bag. So long as we win our next 3 games it's ours. I just can't see the other lot winning the rest of their games.

..sad to see Barcelona lose out on the final. The best (visiting) team to grace parkhead for years!!

Mon the hoops!

trophy room even. Am that excited about getting to post i cant spell.

Stand up for the CHAMPIONS

Hail, hail.

Nice new design Paul67. Crisp and classic.

STANDING UP.. cos I'm very easily pleased by good use of fonts

Love the new format...simple but well styled....i'm gonnae be sad and hazard a guess that the new font is........Trajan Pro???????

J

Seems that new-look blog has tempted quite a few of us greybeard lurkers to come into the light - surely we are entitled to consider ourselves a new clique??

blantyretim - the bus was more the Auchenshoogle variety, although I drive past the Teser once or twice a week if that counts :)

Hi All,

Like the new site Paul67 waited for my E-Mail but never arrived so tried without and seems to work. Gutted that Barcelona are out.

Time for a Corona!

Hail Hail!

RobinBhoy

test....if this works its looking good. Link is to see how it works

bhoys,
how do i change my password?
engine wouldn't accept my original so i hit the forgot password button, it then sent me an unmemorable jumble of letters then telling to change it to something i could remember. i cannot find how to do this

We'll now be subjected to 3 weeks of 'the greatest league in the world', ahead a mind numbing borefest between Man U & Chelski (remember last year's FA Cup Final)

Paul ,

Looks mighty fine.

Is this the equivalent of a change of kit, every other season?

I got in but I did not receive the email I was told was on its way. Do I not need it?

I wish you all the best for your new site/hosting

Blogger became so bad towards the end that with limited time to post comments on CQN that were invariably lost in the ether I gave up making any comment and just enjoyed "lurking" instead.

The sign in for the new site was easy and I hope the ability to post is as straightforward as the registration.

Not sure anyone wants to read my ramblings anyway but as always I and so many others appreciate the platform you give us.

Anyone know how to delete a post?!
VertWolf

Sorry Paul - just seeing if I've got the hang of the URL thingmy.

WG - have received "underwater Moonlight" and quite excited too!

bad result tonight so depressed but fiorentina will lift the depression on thursday nite and hump the evil ones. im new poster so hail hail to my fellow celts we are special people

Paul,

Fine looking web site, all the very best and hopefully it will be as good as the last site.

Aiden needs all of our help whether it be singing his name at games or defending his name in arguments with the Orcs. They fear him as a player and a person.

Hail Hail.

New site looks good let's hope the comments are just as fresh and lively.

No hassle registering so off to a great start.

Congratulations Paul, how do you launch a new site without breaking laptop with bottle of bubbly?

Paul67,

Was tempted to go for Sparky as my new blog name but i like WGS so it stays for now.

Anyway, new features??? Are Kojo and Collie going to give us a weekly rumour mill?:)

Excellent new look Paul.
Anybody criticised it yet for being to board friendly?
Not that I am, mind you.....criticising that is.

C'mon the Hoops for three in a row.
All hail the Holy Goalie.

Kojo

Am I suffering from Deja Vu?

Paul 67,

Had to post to say congratulations on the new site...looks great.

New site/new name. Have reverted to my "Not The View" moniker (formerly posting as Philip Trousers).

Currently sitting wondering when (if ever) this sad, wee, backward country of ours will drag itself into the modern age. Pope t-shirts causing "fear and alarm" amongst the great unwashed indeed!

Here's to your new site, and to an unlikely 3-in-a-row.

Yours in Celtic,

The Planner

Paul67.

I couldn't get on the blog with my old handle, so I changed to mildot67,I posted about 4 times and then there was a block put on my posts.

A notice came up saying I had exceeded my amount of posts, and would I try again shortly, but I still couldn't get through.
I've changed back to oldtim67 and shall see if it works,it may be a wee problem you could look into.

Hi shaman here (formally "killingworth-celt" for the benefit of "dharma bam"- the only CQNer who will know who i am-as i only posted here once before)

I like the new site- alot less obvious that im skiving at work reading through the various comments. No need to copy and paste 40 pages of html as unformatted text into Ms word to give the appearance that im reading an interesting works report.

Anyway Thought i'd share with you my views on Sunday from the warmth of a Newcastle Pub as emailed to Dharma on Monday:

What a great effort from the team yesterday. It was the best old firm game I’ve watched for a couple of years at least. Although I don’t think I can ever claim to enjoy them.

So what was my favourite moment –I know you haven’t asked, but I’m going to tell you anyway-

Was it the opener? No, although it was nice to see the front two linking so well

Was it our second? No although I thought it was one of Skippy’s best goals for the club

Was it the penalty? No- despite convincing myself lightening does strike twice and it was going to be saved

Was it the final whistle? No-although this moment did allow me to empty an extremely overfilled and bulging bladder.

So what was it-I’ll tell you what it was - It was the look on Naka’s face seconds before the end of the game. Whittaker had just committed a reckless challenge on him. Naka got off the floor and initially looked as if he was about to retaliate or at least voice his disgust at the attempted lunge. Then realising the foul had in effect wasted any available remaining valuable seconds for Rangers, his rage quickly changed to a smile at Whittaker for wasting any semblance of hope Rangers could hope to muster. To me, Naka was smiling to the every watching Celtic Fan and conveying “The game’s over now- the nail-biting can stop”. Body language Is great, its internationally understood.

It must have been hard to take for Whittaker who must have initially thought he had the consolation of irking our Japanese star, only to quickly realise he had just sealed the Celtic Victory by gifting the last minute of injury time to Celtic. Being rightfully sent off for a second bookable offence rubbed additional salt to his bruised ego, but I’m sure Naka’s smile will live much longer in his memory than the sending off. This was a mastercard moment.

I was pretty well oiled by this stage, and I’d been drinking copious quantities of an anaesthetic type substance to ease the pain of having my nails chewed to the quick. After my wonderful interpretation of this moment I hope Naka was indeed smiling, and not just grimacing.

Hello Paul & Fellow CQNers,

Thanks to you all for providing many, many hours of 'entertainment' over the past few years. I (like a few others) have chosen to use the site change to make the plunge and'get-with-the-programme' and stop lurking.

I have every confidence that R****rs will finish the season on less than 89pts, so lets get behind the bhoys for the remaining 270 minutes, and cheer them onto 3-in-a-row.

Sean67

Am I being miserable by saying I liked the old CQN more ? Mind you I did like the old manager more and the new one has grown on me over the past couple of weeks.

Anyone else realise tonight that Barca weren't all that great ?

Great new site Paul
Hail Hail

I haven't read through the previous posts yet but does this mean you won't be having to put up new stories every 200 posts? Not that I am complaining, some cracking stuff over the past few weeks but can imagine you must have given up a lot of your time recently.

3 in a row is only 3 games away!

kojo had same problem

Great looking site Paul.

I may have missed this on the last article but I was stuck in the posting wilderness as I was trying to comment on www.celticquicknews.com not www.celticquicknews.co.uk (I have an irritational hatred of .co.uk addresses :-))

So just in case anyway else is struggling use the co.uk url.

Gutted Barcelona lost tonight, but at least my nephew Ciaran will be happy......

Hi Paul67 et al, congratulations on the new set-up. I've registered before but always had difficulty logging in. This way is much better. Thanks also to Derbyshirebhoy, I followed your instructions to log in.

It's also great to experience the current atmosphere of positivity, it's infectious and also comforting to smell the fear.

Good luck all!

Paul67,

Are we allowed a wee song in your new place?
Hope the neighbours dont mind. let the people sing

How do you get rid of the URL you first posted is it with you for life or does it go away after you have logged out and back in again? Lets see

SHAMAN!!!

Big Ups!

Well, Manchester United scored a great goal and then defended well.

I am disappointed for Barcelona. I hate to say it, but Fiorentina reminded me of this style of play: neat and nippy, but no real finishing power, as though a goal didn't count unless you've played a one-two in the box in the build-up. Let's hope they prove me wrong.

I'm glad for Darren Fletcher and hope he gets a game in Moscow.

Winningemmell: any news on Paul Quinn? I hope he came through the operation well and that his James Grant good looks are not under threat.

Note to Martin42: that's James Grant from Love&Money, not your parish priest (a fine fellow though he is too).

Long time lurker, first time poster ( on the new site ).I hope it works.
Well done Paul.

The only thing I would like to see is another colour of the poster name. This could help me scroll the site to find a poster and a post. You know...when I need to go back.

Test

cracking new site paul67, puts many a site to shame, now lets see a absolute mauling for the manky mob tommorrow night

hail, hail, 3 in a row here we come!

Didn't notice there was a new blog up, was still posting on the first one! It took my comment, told me it was successful and then didn't publish it!

I assume that in this lovely new environment the old blog is closed down when the new one starts?

Pity Barce went out tonight. For all their terrific build up play they actually created very few chances. The old trap of always trying to score the perfect goal, I'm afraid.

ML2 Forever!

Paul67

On your previous article you mentioned the offensive and quite deliberate and nasty ditty that our "friends" on the southside now enjoying chanting about the "famine being over and sending us home"

The deafening silence of the media, SFA, SPL and others on this is to me utterly shocking.

It got me to think that if the words were changed just slightly to say "the mosque is closed why don't you go home" or "the war is over why don't you go home" aimed at our fellow muslim and jewish citizens then the outcry would be heard loud and clear.

Perhaps they could sing "slavery is over, why don't you go home" to the many African's who have sought refuge in this bigoted little corner of the world.

The singing/wishing of repatriation of any community is an offence regardless of creed or colour.

I for one welcome the contribution that Muslims, Jews, Sikhs, Hindus and other religions have made to life in Glasgow and unfortunately these communities rarely get the recognition they deserve for making Glasgow a better place.

Those that make Glasgow and the wider Scottish community a worse place to live were all too evident in the southwest corner of CP on Sunday.

The sad thing is that the media in their attempts to court a dwindling readership (and profit) will pander to these bigoted morons instead of highlighting the true nature of their nastiness.

It saddens me to say but Scotland seems to get worse year by year instead of better and that vile instituition in Govan has so much to answer for in creating that feeling.

Great to be back... do first post on the old blog still count.. or is the slate wiped clean .. Game on !

Celtic First,

I will see James G @o70.00 for Mass then @ 07.20 for breakfast.

Not happy. Having two of the EPL big 4 in the European Cup final might be good news for ITV/Sky and for triumphalist morons like Clive Tyldsley & Andy Gray, but it's hugely damaging for the tournament as a whole - I'd hate to see it become the norm. Sadly, with the cash swilling around down there...

Hopefully lower tv ratings throughout Europe will provoke a re-think from Platini & co.

(Changing the format to suit everyone will be a nightmare though. Two small proposals off the top of my head: only league winners are allowed in pot 1 for the group draw, and allow country rivals to meet in the group stages.)

And as Gary67 mentioned above, games between the 'big 4' are invariably hyped to high heavens, and then turn out to be sterile, boring stalemates.

From a Celtic p.o.v, I suppose it would've been better to go out to the eventual winners, although I wouldn't like that to happen too often either...

Elegant place you have here sir.

Hail Hail.

Shamrock Diary

There are two differences this year.

The first, as you have said, is that the media have nothing left to lose and are pinning all hopes of survival on getting Rangers fans to invest.

The second is that Rangers have been in the ascendancy (note verb tense) and they are even worse 'winners' (soi-disant) than they are losers.

My dear, dear, dear friend... The WIZARD OF OZ

Absolutely not, pal... Absobloomingly no way!

The Man to whom that warning refers, is also known by the Sobriquet ... ZSA ZSA!

Kojo.
yer pal.....who always liked ye!...did I ever tell ye that,pal?... well, I am tellin' ye now!

Martin42,

Where did you get mass at 7:30am in the morning?

Paul,

Congratulations, the new site looks great.

A couple of interesting and sad Celtic anniversaries today.

29 April 1964, European Cup Winners Cup Semi Final (2nd leg)

MTK Budapest ...4 Celtic...0
aggregate (4-3)

We blew a great chance to appear in our first European final after winning the first leg 3-0 at Celtic Park.

Sporting Lisbon would have been our opponents in Brussels (who would have worn the hoops?!).

The radio transmission from Budapest broke down with the score at 3-0 and I heard the official bad news from "Blue" Peter Thompson who hosted the Sportsreel programme.

I could swear he was smiling.

29 April 1978

St Mirren ...3 Celtic ...1

Jock Stein took charge of the Celts for the last time.

We failed to qualify for Europe and finished 5th in the League.

However the Big Man didn't do too badly winning 25 trophies and well and truly putting the Rangers in their place.

Celtic_First

Yes it's a worry that Fiorentina will be like Barca and not do anything in the penalty box.

I just hope someone from Fiorentina watched our games against Rangers and will realise they have to play with some tempo. The slow build up play from the teams Rangers have faced in the UEFA Cup has played right into the anti-football mob's hands.

Wow, it took a wee while but I think I got it together.
The new Celtic Quick News looks great paul. I hope now you have a somewhat less work load. Although, it was always interesting to see whatever you came up with in the last weeks with Blogger.
You did really well. I don't know where you found the time or energy.

A nice pass from Zambrotta to Scholes ala Henrik to Chick Charnley on the KOK's debut.

Got to go to ma kip

Echo all the remarks about the nice shiny site.

Possibly flogging a dead horse here - but I think the case of how the Artur story is reported today is a good example of what I have said before about the power of PA Scotland's Ronnie Esplin.

He supplied the story today - which is really a non-story follow-up to a non-story (i.e. yesterday we told you nothing had happened but it possibly could. Today, nothing happened.) but with the further spin almost inviting the SPL to act.

Some sites carry the Esplin by-line but others, notably The Herald, have no name attached or even made-up names.

The result is an impression of consensus in the press that the SPL should examine Artur's actions - it even helpfully outlines appropriate UEFA rules. Are we happy that this is created by one Rangers historian, author, fan and Murray poodle?

Kojo.

I was jesting, but thanks all the same.

Stay happy, healthy and in fine fettle sir.

Freshly out of the closet as well, just to say the new site looks good, and looking forward to becoming a regular poster

Paul -

Well done on a smooth transition to the fab new-look CQN! Much easier to read and hopefully more stable.

Mon the Hoops!

Awright bhoys?

Feeling good after the past two league wins and really happy for WGS - some of the stick he is taking is a tad over the top.

IF (small word - B I G meaning!) we win all three remaining games then I think the bosch will do well to win the title.

I don't know if they have just hit a bump OR if the wheels are coming off big style but only time - and Chick Young - will tell!

C'mon the Hoops - NO banana skins PLEASE??

trisha walsh smith she a not to be messed with

Like the new site, Paul.

An auld poster (not to be confused with the BOLD Paddy), read a lot and looking to post more often again.

I have been a lone voice for Gordon Strachan amongst fellow fans and pleased with the recent performances. Liking Bsrry Robson and loved Hartley challenge on Bazza on Sunday....a defining moment methinks. I'm also a fan of Caldwell who is playing very well and who is very brave imo.

I really hope Gordon hangs around and gets to see this team develop, there's a fair bit of european experience in there for a young team.

congratulations on the new blog paul, heres hoping its fit for a 3 in a row party very soon, hail hail gordybhoy

Clearer and easier on the eye, and the site's no bad as well.

WGS,

Mass is at 7am every Wednesday in Holy Family, Mossend

WGS,

We have Mass @07.00 every Wednesday from Ash Wadnesday till the October school week holiday.

Then into the Parish Hall for a free breakfast.

There are usually a dozen men at our table, we discuss your namesake, our team and generally set the world to rights.

All over by 08.00 and off to work.

All this takes place at Holy Family Parish, Mossend.

Agree with you.

Maybe they should change the oft-quoted caption "One Scotland, Many Cultures" to a new one along the lines of "One Scotland, Many Cultures Only As Long as the Protestant Culture is the Main One"

Isn't too catchy I'll admit and wouldn't win many advertising awards but at least it recognises "The Peepil" and confirms that indeed they are what they say they are.

Might be a tad offensive to other religions and athiests but what the hell the most important thing is to keep "the peepil" happy no matter what happens.

"The Best Small Country In The World" - how much of a joke is that?

Cheers Martin & Dzikeanowski,

Need to remember that. Can be a nightmare trying to get mass on special days during the week when your working. Got an alternative now possibly.

Testing fancy new site.

for Dharma Bam: not mid 90's reference- which is in the plural. This has always been my tag mainly on the work DGs (ocasionally shamanista) when someone else has snapped up the word to desribe such a great foreseer- daddy dharma.

Unfortunately I don't feel we clique but i will take as compliment.

Hope Mrs Dharma, lttle Dharma and Dharma seedling are all well.

Too many posts for 1 night, great start for the new site, nite nite

Whether we win the league or not I believe Strachan has to stay. Any upheavel in the summer would only play into the huns hands. Despite the upturn in recent performances, whoever is in charge will still need some hard cash in the summer - full-backs, ball-playing midfielder and top striker are a must if we are to move forward.

Yes I thought it was the correct result tonight. Barcelona have not impress since that night at Celtic Park. Man U were the better side and I hope they win in Moscow.

Tomorrow althought I very much dislike them the correct result would see Chelsea progress to the final. Liverpool and Rafa can only challenge in one tournement at a time while others around them atleast try to win their own league along with competing in the Champions League. As league champions for two of the last four seasons I hope Chelsea go through however history is with the Reds. And a sea of red (blood?)in Moscow would be a sight to see.

Inchure, good idea.

Mabel, tell Collie I’ll set something up special for him.

Pablo, I’ll figure that one out.

Hi Paul67.

Congratulations on the new site. It's just like when Celtic started getting their strips designed by Nike after leaving Umbro, a step up in class. Or is this your very own blog 2, a more sleeker, faster model.

Hail Hail

OOOoooh fancy!
Very nice Paul, thank you very much.
Totally addicted!

Shamrock Diary

no problem- it made me smile to think of how many Celtic fans you had accidentally managed to disparage!

Lad's i posted earlier on the old site that maybe we should contemplate a show of support towards our goalkeeper in maybe weraing the same T shirts at the final home game. I see a SNP MP has asked for a motion against Boruc. Shocking!!

Th T shirt would be the same:

Top: Good Bless the Pope
Middle: Picture of Karl
Underneath: It's a crime to be a catholic in this country according to our media (Scotland's Shame extended)

Any thoughts?

I wish I had your ears, listening to UM for the first time.

Tell ye a wee tale.....

still at St Aidan's - walked into Round Sounds in Wishaw (the guys were great in there, loved their sounds more than their longevity) in 1981ish, saw The Soft Boys' EP "Near The Soft Boys" and liked the cover. On the rear was one of Robyn's cartoon strips of 'Vegetable Man' the befamed but unreleased Syd song from '67. It's called 'dipping your toe' and if we didn't do it, we'd never learn anything. I disagree so much with RH's outlook but he's the greatest since Syd this side of the pond. You KNOW who is the greatest(he posts here!)!From "Near The Soft Boys" it was a straight road to its parent album UM - those guys in Round Sounds knew their stuff but the best thing about them was they encouraged ghuys like me; they sourced albums and sold them to us at minimum profit (they knew we'd be back - NAFOS & SOAL will confirm)

Hi all, great new set up Paul. Had a few probs getting signed in but looks like i've cracked it at last.
Just arrived back from Spain before Sundays game ,still have a big grin on my face.
Problems never seem as bad when your hun skelping.
It would be incredible if we could pull this off and snatch 3 in a row.
Keep up the great work you do with this site Paul.

great post shamrock diary 10-22, why can the rest of our wee country not see this? kojo I was also getting the "post to soon" message, the old paranoia was starting to creep in
I'm a believer.

Fr Jim Grant was a fellow student of BoltonBhoy's and mine at the Royal Scots College when it was in Valladolid (although I'm much younger than both of them).

He did me the honour of asking me to sing the psalm at his ordination, all the more of an honour when you consider what a great singer he is himself. I don't really think the Diocese of Motherwell has ever got over my attempt.

That ought to help him place me. I last met him at departures at Ciampino airport. He was on his way back after officiating at the wedding of one of his brothers in St Peter's. Must have been 1997.

Please give him my very best wishes.

Paul67,

Sounds like Big Ceasar went down toeing the media line in condeming Boruc. Looks to have a scored an own goal big time with the fans over this one.

Sooner Billy stops giving views to that trashy paper the better!!

EDB, that's the "original" spelling, but when I tried to register on E-Bay, some swine already had it !!! Can you believe it ?? Is nothing sacred ??? So, not to be outdone, I plumped for the "ph". Now.................? If I can only remember what bank/credit card site that accepted the "f" version, I'd be laffing :o)))
