8 days of danger and opportunity for Celtic

| | Comments (247)

My friends in Celtic it will be eight days before we see our team play again, but during this time our emotions will be subject to sunshine and shadow.  You and I, just like Celtic, need to maintain focus on the job in hand; beating Dundee United.

Before Celtic play opportunities to further out cause will arise, just as our lead can come under pressure.  We will not have it all our own way; Rangers will win again before the end of the season, but I sincerely believe that if Celtic maintain focus, we'll win the league.

The pantomime that Scottish football has become recently will continue to play, but we must leave it to others to become consumed in that, we have a game of football to prepare for.

Big Jock knew how to win a European cup... Walt Disnae

Are we back operational?

phew, back in Business!

hoorah.......

:-( :-(

I'll be here for around 15 - 20 min for anyone that wants to take pot shots after that I'll vanish for a day or so.

I checked outside... silence.

No fireworks, no "follow follow",

The world is good again! :)

when I saw their first goal go in tonight I didn't cheer - I just felt an overwhelming sense of relief.

The prospect of such a defensive outfit claiming legendary status was frightening.

May I remind you the Italians, the Italians , that's right the Italians thought they were too defensive.

Wee Dick? Cheers mate.

What a wonderful night, scotlands shame never dissapoint do they?

At least in 2003 we gave our fans something to celebrate.Predictable that "the People" wouldnt be able to control their emotions.

Roll on Saturday and onwards to 3 in a row!!

Just back in from cruisin' in downtown Airdrie with my Kool and the Gang LP blaring out this tune

http://youtube.com/watch?v=YwEMxYggoKQ

Oh the feckin' relief!

Paul67

I hope you are right and the management team also recognise the importance of that focus.

One more win will I'm sure make the title ours even if it is with some help from others.

I sincerely hope that 22 May 2008 will become one of those famous CQN datelines in twenty years time.

Mornin all.
Thankfully now fully operational.
Edward...kudos for putting your head above the parapet.
Your team got what they deserved tonight - beaten by a far superior side.
Unfortunately, some of your fellow supporters reverted to type.
They are indeed,Scotland's shame.

Did you sabotage the blog Ed?

Are you mad coming on here now. Quick! Run! I wont tell anyone you were here.

Its a sore one for you, but you'll recover...
..me? Ill admit i'm greatly relieved.

Der Kaiser, you obviously don't live in Manchester. Plenty of fireworks tonight.
Scotlands shame indeed.

Why did you come home
why did you come home
nob'dy missed you, why did you come home

edward ...i thought it was only the city of manchester riot police who took pot shots tonight...

i know how you must be feeling tonight, we've all been there...i suspect that you also know how we are feeling tonight..

so , no gloating...your team did well to get where it did...

please come back on next thursday night.....gloating will be the order of the evening...for one of us

on a serious note, after the problems caused in manchester tonight, i have very real fears for next thursday night...2 sets of fans travelling up the same road...there is a potential for mayhem here..especially on the way back

if we win we are liable to celebrate for a while in dundee after the game....i would be amazed if some of the far right element amongst your support don't decide to drop in to dundee on their way home

it could be a very troublesome night tayside police....another cock up by the spl, in their desperation to avoid giving eltic a final game at home yet again

Great stuff Paul. Throughout this mad last month you've kept your eye on the prize. The club has too. Let's just hope we get what we deserve.

Everybody healthy?
Good.
Ed. I think Bemused Exile on another forum calls it "Testicular fortitude"

Hope you had a good night.

Just got back from local restaurant and got a 402 error trying to access CQN. Conspiracy theories abound!
Anyway, all seems to be OK with CQN anf THEY lost.

After three years of reading and not taking part not sure what has changed other than if I don't get a job soon I'll be back to Melb.

Anyway G'Day to all and thank you to Paul for providing the service

Edward
Well done for turning up. Tonight will have been a real bummer for you. Your fortitude is remarkable.

Please forgive us if we appear a trifle cheerful tonight. We have lots of reasons to be so, and you're not one of them.

Disgraced Dignity.?

You wont hear the half of it.!

This has tarnished scottish football fans reputation for a very long time.

You just knew it would happen. But those seens from Manchester were shameful.

Ironbhoy

Just when I needed someone to celebrate with, the blog disappeared.

Thank God we're back. Well done to whoever fixed my lifeline.

I cried to my daddy on the telephone
2-0 now
Until their first goal and Novo 'No!'
my @r5£ went
But Broadfoot still remains in your defence
your defence

The saints are coming, the saints are coming
No matter how I try, I realise there's no reply
The saints are coming, the saints are coming

A drowning sorrow floods their deepest grief
How long now
Until a batton is received by Greater Manchester Police
The news says

The saints are coming, the saints are coming
No matter how I try, I realise there's no reply
The saints are coming, the saints are coming

Anybody else think that was very very sweet :)

I have a Zenit fan sending me an original Zenit UEFA cup winners 2008 scarf when they are made.

Can't wait to wear it.

more shame

Paul.

What a marvelously understated post; I salute you.

8 days indeed ! From a forlorn hope to a genuine chance is one thing; from 1986, to 1988, to 1998.... great times. But this one would be as extraordinary... if not better.

Hail, Hail

Those pictures surely are shameful. There is no hiding place now, reminds you of the type of scenes we seen in the 80`s.

What a mess!

Zenith really were a slick outfit who moved the ball at speed and at the right time.Class act, victory for football.

19 games in Europe, how many were victorys?

Many games we win on way to Seville?

Fairplay for turning up tonight Edward, know how hard it was to take directly after the Seville game. It felt like groundhog day watching Rangers (the mainly defensive way they played)again tonight but was glad to see the best team won and all the possible positive effects it could have for Celtic's season.

Edward I just want to say I'm sorry for your disappointment, I'm a firm believer that the team you support is already picked for you when you're born mainly through family tradition so I don't blame you for being a Rangers fan. You deserve a better team to follow though, not so much the playing side as you should be proud of your players for surpassing all the expectations you would have had for this season. I think you personally deserve better fans though, It's unfair that you should be tarnished by that LARGE group of animals which follow your club. Sorry for the strong descriptions but it's appropriate.

I see this as a possible landmark moment in Rangers history, it is undeniable proof that Rangers have a problem and this time it cannot be swept under the carpet as the whole world has seen. Hopefully something will be done about the problem and it needs good guys like you to be strong and make sure that the future of your club will carry a positive moral ethos. Or you could just come and join us Celtic fans, you'd be more than welcome ;-)

Scum is, as scum does. Bringing Shame ONCE AGAIN on Scotland

Anti-football, Riots, Dozens of arrests, assaults, etc, etc...

Just as Paul says Focus is the order of the day, mixed with patience. We WILL be playing for 3-in-a-row when the time comes and can look forward with real expectation of a VERY Large Celebration.

Hail! Hail!

EU

Well done for showing up.

Your team did well to reach a final for which they were not really good enough.

Shame about the fans' reaction but I don't need to lump you in with that.

You can say goodnight now. Hear from you soon.

Paul - our emotions will be subject to sunshine and shadow? Shadows - don't think so! Even if we fail to win league can live with it after that close brush with a full scale horror scenario.

Maybe Kevin and Angela could get an open top bus to show off their new addition to the Brennan family tomorrow, hear there may be one available and be a shame to waste it.

Well done for coming on Ed, brave man to do it considering how you must be feeling right now.

roythebhoy,

I really don't think I could have handled living in Manchester tonight. It was bad enough after the Fiorentina game with half the neighbors hanging out their doors and windows directing abuse at my house. :P

It's a ghost town up here tonight though. I only hope that people who are not involved in the game don't get mixed up in the probable madness that will ensue.

Now if we can win the league, what could have turned into a nightmare might yet become a dream come true. I've kept an article that irked me from Peter Martin (Great commentator, poor columnist) who stated on the 20th of March (before the Ibrox match and the loss to Motherwell)..

"The next Old Firm game will seal Celtic's fate. Trophyless , rudderless, big decisions must be made in the summer"

I'd love it if this rudderless team pulls off the ultimate last minute winner!

Rangers fans must have real trouble with dyslexia.

What they've really meant to say for this past month is that they're going for an unpresented quadruple.

Thank God !

To those posters on this site who do not live in Glasgow - you were the lucky ones today. I was in the city centre for a while and it was like the tweflth come two months early. St. Enoch Square and George Square were the main centres of all the usual raciast/sectarian vile songs and chants. Go home, the Famine's over they sang with gusto. Not a peeler in sight. Confined to barracks. Unprotected decent people told they were not people at all. They were the people, we were all reminded.

So, thank you to Zenit. Although from what I gather they need to get their own house in order. That said, can you imagine what our lives would have been like here if that shower had won tonight. So, thank you again the Russian Saints.

Now let's go on and retain our championship.

Celtic forever !

I am a very relieved man tonight. Anti-football eventually got what it deserved but for a split second when the ball hovered next to Novo I thought we were about to see extra time. Similar to George O'Boyle's header in 1998 I was so happy to see the ball fly over the bar. The second goal I think gives Rangers the distinction of a record losing scoreline in a European Final for a Scottish team. And I think they are the only Scottish team to fail to score in a European final.

The King of Kings remains the last player to score for a Scottish team in a European final.

Now it's over to you Motherwell, St Mirren and Aberdeen to put the final touches to what could still be a magnificent season. I fear we could still lose the league but the "unprecedented" quadruple has thankfully not presented itself.

A much easier sleep awaits tonight.

Craiginho

ed..just noticed your in..fair play to you for showing up..
btw anyone clock david taylor handing over the medals to platini..a happy chappy(not)...

On the game itself..

Rangers were poorly outclassed. Reverting to high punts up the park which were duly snapped up by Zenit players who could win headers and pick up the loose ball and create another attack.I dont remember Rangers stringing 4 passes together all night.

2-0 going on 4-0

I think had Zenit scored earlier, rangers would have played a more open game and lost by more goals.

How I wish we had a couple of those Zenit players at Celtic.

me myself

i predicted a riot

i predicted a riot

craiginho

When they lost their European final in 1967 they also failed to score, I believe.

I guess they combined two traditions tonight, the non-scoring of 67 combined with the riot of 72.

I wonder how this will be reported tomorrow...not at all you say?! Surely not!

ps..was out earlier..heard
jim(30 pieces of silver)traynor on radio scot..saying that the trouble was shaming the nation...lumping us together again..

Zenit did well but they were slack in a number of periods and up until the goal lacked any real threat in the final third. Still they looked really good in patches and controlled most of the game. It was also good to see that teams other than Celtic can score against them in the big matches.

Big Screen Problem explained copyright the huddleboard

Hun Skelper spotted leaving Picadilly Square

SO, Rearrangers fans repeatidly sing vile sectarian songs (as recorded by every single TV & radio station), riot, etc, etc.

Will UEFA be interested enough to take action?

What will the main stream press report, regarding the non-football events?

My god I am so glad I am a celtic fan.
Watch the right hand side of the screen on 18 seconds,no comradery there, wot a slap,Ouch

bournesouprecipe,

That is quality.

Hi folks, I honetly didn't have a clue when some of you described Seville, tonight I do I just feel numb.
All the best enjoy the schadenfreude (sp)
Looking forward to the hostilities over the title.
Finally a sentiment that I'm sure many of you can apreciate if from another side.

I noticed the hun on tv at the time, they could'nt even be gracious in defeat.

Goodnight Ed,

Tomorrow will be even worse. Believe me.

But you will get over it.

Well played coming on here tonight.

Ironbhoy

Ed'Ursus,

R E S P E C T to you, but I still hate your team with an ever growing passion.

Under Pressure, do, duda, do, do.

The bit I liked the most (well the only bit I could watch) was the gers players expressions after the game as though they had been robbed of the trophy nevermind being played off the park!

-
I think the small bit of trouble is irreverent. Hopefully the rest of the night passes peacefully.
-

EdwardUrsus,

The numbness will be with you for some time. Hopefully it spreads to your team as well.

From my short time on here you seem like a genuine nice guy. Take care.

Just seen a large group of females a few streets away from my window, who could only be described as drunk neds, staggering around the road, singing about Nacho Novo, and almost getting their dog run over as they dragged it around on a tight leash.

Disgusting.

The cheek of it! 24 seconds in, Maradona does a Lubo :)

I thought the referee had an excellent game. I entered a state of disbelief as he refused Rangers a variety of claims for fouls throughout the game ( I'm obviously so used to them getting so many decisions from our refs in the SPL ). Mark my words I believe that they will recieve 'sympathetic' treatment from refs in the remainder of the run in as it would be intolerable that they lost the league also. Can we rely on fairplay in the run in? Watch this space! By the way how much would it cost to get that refover to officiate in our league hmm..?

Ed,
I do not want to add to your disappointment as your own supporters are currently doing that it seems.
I commend you for coming on to face the music, however I will not gloat because if Your team lift the league it will certainly not be nice for us.

edwardursus

fair play to you right enough, for looking in tonight

i was no where near a rangers forum when i got back from seville

then again, i was no where near a rangers forum.

Hi Edward, Are you in manchester tonight?

Will EUFA do anything to R@nkers as a club for the trouble that occurred in the centre of Manchester?

I can't remember if anything was done to the Turkish club when 4 Leeds fans were stabbed the day before the game.

EUFA may view it that as the crowd inside the ground behaved themselves then it is ok. Taylor is also high up in the organisation and may be working in the background on their behalf.

I don't think that FIFA punished England during the French world cup when there was lots of trouble on the streets but not at the actual games. (I know they are a different organisation but other than that Leeds game it is the only time I remember there being trouble before and during games but not at the ground itself).

The biggest problem will be that the press in Scotland will try as hard as they can to pass it off as anyones fault but their supporters.

I hope that the English press report it as a R@nkers problem and not a Scottish one,on talksport tonight a couple of Mancunian callers actually mentioned us as well and said that all the scottish supporters were the same.

I now feel sorry for Man USA and Chelski having to go to Russia and possibly copping retaliation for what happened tonight.

the media must be feeling pretty silly today
last night both scottish tv channels news programmes showed no news only rangers build up to the match, almost non stop coverage on all rangers build up,yet earthquakes and cyclones didnt deserve a mention ,there complicity in rangers shame tonight should not be forgotten
There are even now attempts to blame the manchester police, manchester city council, big screen engineers, the spl,lex gold, the events tonight will be spun to favour rangers etc of that im sure

does the scenes tonight in manchester remind anyone else of the english fans abroad?

Paul67, fair play to you. In a previous article you said the huns play the following way - 1st half frustrate and soak up pressure, 2nd half up tempo for first 20 mins to surprise the opposition and catch them off guard. In that period snatch a goal and then defend it in numbers for the rest of the game. Play long with runners ready to win the second ball.
I've been watching them over the past few weeks on the box. You are spot on. But do you think Mark McGhee knows ?

Celtic forever !

Gallowgate

Huge relief of getting the right result for football and for all of us. From my reckoning that was the first time that Darcheville actually played 90 minutes.
I was almost at the point of hoping for extra time to see if he would explode if he went beyond 100 minutes. The thought of the FoD trying to play extra time with a 'Brasil' style all out attack against a very good counter attacking team would almost have been worth the angst of seeing them get an equaliser.
I feared that if they came back with the UEFA cup the momentum would carry them for the rest of the SPL. I can now see us crowned champions next Monday night after a loss and a draw.

Lisbon :we win ,we party
Barcelona :they win, they riot
Seville :we lose - we leave the town intact but very short of beer.
Manchester:they lose - they trash the town.

How can anyone ever say these two teams are "one as bad as the other"

The Onlooker

Although I don't think the trouble is as big an issue as some here would like it to be.
I doubt if the rangers club will follow follow in the footsteps of United '87 UCF and Celtic '03 UCF and be awarded a Fair Play prize.

Although word has it Peat and Smith have started the lobby!

A lot of the attention seems to be deflected onto the screen issue rather than the behaviour of the Rangers fans.

I'll comment on the screen first, I think that was a disgrace, a showpiece international event and they can't event get a screen to work and I feel sorry for the good Rangers fans who travelled down there with good intentions. I know I'd be raging if I was to miss the biggest game of my life because of something like that.

This does not excuse the way the fans reacted though; their hostile reactions certainly did not increase their chances of seeing the game and I think that illuminates the priority of the thugs who were clearly looking for an excuse for toruble. I do not believe that the trouble and violence was a result of the screen failing, it certainly triggered it, but I'm certain there would have been trouble irrespective of that problem. There was already trouble in that pub, there was already vile chanting constantly being sung, and there have been plenty of incidences of isolated violence. As the game progressed and more alcohol had been consumed it would have been inevitable that something would have happened. It didn't take much for them to turn on themselves anyone nearby. A Mancunian on youtube (not the most reliable place I know) mentions that he witnessed a Rangers fan punch a woman and call her a 'Manc b*t*h' which to me sums up that whole mess.

I have a feeling that a number of newspaper headlines particularly the Scottish ones will put more emphasis on the broken screens than their actions.

On another note, I hope attitudes towards the Scottish isn't irreparably damaged for people down South. I'm afraid that they wont see them as non representative.

They can't even behave in their own midden, according to the beeb site:

About 25,000 Rangers fans also watched the game at Ibrox Stadium, where the world's largest mobile screen was in place.

Strathclyde Police said 17 arrests were made outside Ibrox for minor disorder offences.

On a funny note I got this message from a Mancunian who normally supports Rangers over Celtic just to wind me up:

'Flood warning for Manchester 100,000 crying huns cause millions of pounds worth of damage and in Glasgow further devastation as 150,000 Celtic fans piss themselves laughing.'

Check out the this from NZ Herald. World wide infamy:

What goes, beep, beep,beep,beep?

The rangers open top bus being reversed back into the garage!.

I posted this earlier tho I said to watch 18 secs instead of 28,I meant 28 secs.

Right hook

Long time lurker, etc.

I apologise profusely for the extensively Rangers-related content of this post, but the scenes

Now, we all knew what would happen as Rangers tried to 'out-Seville' us; surely even the 'neutral' media knew what was going to happen as they tried to draw attention to Zenith fan's backwards views on race, but I really think they've reached a watershed moment here. From the news report earlier, it would seem during the screen debacle they started 'throwing bottles' at the engineer hired to fix it. Now, I have no doubt the Daily Record and its siblings (which has finally thrown off its flimsy disguise and revealed itself as the Rangers fan magazine it always was) will blame the 'authorities' for not being organised enough, something that is already happening on the BBC website (see the 'fans angry after screen fails' compared to the actual contents of the story), but I really don't see how they can slither their way out of this one. We all know (or should know)that there are decent Rangers fans out there and it is time for these fans to become far more vocal about the odious 'minority' that even manages to ruin occasions like as european Cup Finals.

This picture accompanying a story on an Australian news site is one of the saddest pictures I've seen in football. A picture, it would seem, which is being published all over the world.

As an interesting aside, compare the articles from various countries regarding the events of tonight and the match itself to the ones on the BBC. Contrasting views indeed.

The Paper Chase

BBC seem to have upgraded 'small number of Rangers fans' to a 'significant minority'. Also saying now that the Russian fan was stabbed BEFORE the game.

Also this one:

Manchester Evening News regrets to report that the hundred thousand great unwashed are returning to Manchester. Following their humiliation on the park the Huns headed home with their tails between their legs only to be rejected at the border. It appears that while the Unionists were out of the country a Scottish parliamentary election was held which the SNP won with a majority and their first task was to re-build Hadrian’s Wall. The SNP in a statement apologised to the Mancunian people claiming his deep respect for the city and its inhabitants but stated that the opportunity to finally get rid of Scotland’s Shame was too exciting an opportunity to pass by.

The place,

Missed that alright, hahaha.

The scot media will be in full swing to spin this disgrace.

ofeeshul rangers site has been blaming spl and lack of free saturday for the defeat tonight. Obviously nothing to do with the fact that they were pumped rotten by a far superior team - fantastic!

half n half

agree, total carnage but clearly the authorities were to blame
because the big screen broke.

bournesouprecipe,

I do detect a touch of sarcasm.

KHICFC

Give old wattie his dues, he said after the game that it had no bearing although he could change his tune.

MEN reader Michael Petersen said he was “disgusted” by sectarian songs being sung by Rangers fans.

“I stopped in the centre of town today enjoying the atmosphere and colours of the Rangers fans. However after a few minutes I was left totally shocked and disgusted.”

I live in Manchester. For years I've been telling people that Celtic Fans were not the same as Rangers.

Sadly, my local friends have found this out the hard way tonight.

In terms of the score, justice was done.

In terms of Orc behaviour, is anyone of us really surprised?

Fan knifed in Rangers riot

A FOOTBALL fan was stabbed and 30 others arrested as violence surrounded last night’s UEFA cup final.

Riot cops repeatedly clashed with supporters in Manchester’s city centre.

Trouble flared during and after the match between Zenit St Petersburg and Glasgow Rangers.

One Russian fan was knifed in the back outside the City of Manchester stadium prior to kick-off.

And dozens of Rangers fans were hurt in battles with baton-wielding cops in the city’s Piccadilly Gardens — a designated supporters’ zone.

Click below to see more dramatic pictures

Bloodied yobs were seen throwing chairs and tables at police in full riot gear.

An onlooker said: "Hundreds of fans rushed at the police who charged back at them.

"It was a war zone. There were bottles flying everywhere and guys getting dragged to the floor."

Witnesses said the situation rapidly worsened after a Rangers fan was knocked down by a passing minicab, sparking mayhem as angry supporters shattered the motor’s windows.

Clashes

Yobs also smashed the front of a Boots chemist and there were reports of looting.

Sad ... Barry

Sad ... Barry

Cars were wrecked in the streets around Piccadilly Gardens — the scene of other ugly clashes earlier in the evening.

Around 10,000 gathered to watch the match on a big screen there.

But the atmosphere turned nasty at 7.30pm — 15 minutes before kick-off — when the screen broke down to the dismay of furious fans.

Police were pelted with bottles and cans and sporadic clashes broke out.

Onlooker Morgan Jones, 28, said: "The screen suddenly went off. A huge chorus of jeers rang out when everyone assumed the authorities had switched it off deliberately.

"A minority of fans started kicking off and lobbing things."

The stabbed fan’s injury was said not to be life-threatening. Cops arrested six people in relation to the incident.

Disgusted local Simon McClean, 28, said: "We were promised a world-class sporting event but we’ve ended up with a town centre that looks like a rubbish dump. There were fans urinating in the street.

Seventeen fans were held for minor disorder outside Rangers’ Ibrox ground — where 25,000 watching on three giant screens saw their team, led by Barry Ferguson, lose 2-0.

Thank you once again Rangers fans for proving just how different we are. I remember sitting in a bar until around 3.30am which was mixed with Celtic and Porto fans (with us in the big majority) having a beer. No matter how gutted I felt at no time did violence ever come anywhere near my mind.

As an old lady said in the taxi tonight 'What do you expect from those animals'?

I have to say Radio Clyde and in particular Hugh Keevins surpassed itself tonight. Without knowing the facts and just how bad the violence was, they had blamed Manchester City Council and Greater Manchester Police for not being able to host a big event and therefore causing the violence. I suppose it was only the Commenwealth Games they held though that was a festival of sport played in the right spirit. Nothing like the hordes that infested their City today.

There really are some shocking pictures being broadcast around the World. They are indeed Scotlands Shame.

I am more convinced than ever we will win this League.

From The Herald

Paul Johnson, 25, from the Knightswood area of Glasgow, said: "I'm absolutely gutted. We were so close to a historic victory for our club but we just couldn't perform on the night.

"It was just a dream for us and we didn't quite make it."

Ian Anderson, 19, from Fife, said: "I'm absolutely devastated. We should have had a penalty, but to be honest they had more of the ball. They created more chances."

Alan Bedford, 22, from Renfrewshire, said: "Of course I was totally gutted but we didn't expect to be there at the start of this season. We were chasing four trophies and we're still in for three. I'm chuffed with that."

And Scott McBride, 19, from Loch Lomondside, was "disappointed" with his team's performance, saying: "We can't expect to go out there just defending and win the game. Obviously the whole lot of us are very upset but we didn't play as we should have."

Mark McGhee from Motherwell, was Cautiously Optimistic......While Gordon Strachan of Glasgow Smiled like an Uncaged Predator..........

KTF Bhoys

Great to see a game where Rangers didnt get every 50/50 or even 40/60 decision...bring in the foreign referees please.
Shameful behaviour from their fans but no real surprise...I doubt they will play a game in England for some time.
On a totally different point, saw Derek Riordan in a nasty brawl with some Edinburgh nightclub doorsstaff tonight, doubt he will be seen again in the hoops.

In Manchester the clean up will start in the morning.
In Glasgow the whitewash has already begun.
By morning the cover up will be in full force.
Expect an early morning queue at B&Q for
Masonry Whitewash

that girl annie maguire read out dozens of emails from all over scotland.

everyone were either having a go at the quality of football or the fact the huns had shamed scotland again.

GET IT RIGHT QINTESSENTIALLY UP YOU!

No entirely precedent quadruple for the huns.

Have not had a chance to catch up with the blog, so don't know what's already been said, but I was amazed at how quiet 'the people' were at last night's match. Even before they went behind, it almost sounded like a home match for Zenit.

I see they are trying to blame the rioting on Manchester. Lying scum, as usual.

Where was Mike McCurry when the Rangers needed him ?

Absolutely disgusting scenes from Manchester last night.

The Rangers support never fail to disappoint.

Whilst I am relieved at last night's results because the thought of them winning four trophies was horrifying, I think we should hold back on gloating until we complete the great come back.

I have to say although we had a few examples of them singing their little ditties, it would appear that the vast majority of Orcs were well behaved inside the ground at least. Indeed when Zenit were presented the cup there was applause from all round the ground. (Probably helped that the Little General was the manager).

The trouble with an extremely drunken minority was always a risk with high likelyhood and high impact. It appears to me that Manchester was ill prepared to deal with thousands of drunken neanderthals.

Paul is right...remain focussed....keep your eyes on the prize...this season is not just about Ran666ers. I hope they've kept their beach balls cos they're gonnae need them for Fir Park.

Hope the sand pit becomes a trap, and that at Love Street(not Paul's fav place) the Saints want to party out on a high (enough Celtic minded players in their team to want that).

Hail! Hail!

Tried to post last night. Couldn't.

Wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the Birthday Bhoys. It brought back a lot of memories, especially of Cup Final Day (and evening:I was in the Pavilion for the performance, when the Cup appeared out of the cake at the end).

Mancunians seem to be waking up, litterally, to the reality of what EU's mob are about. The centre is a scene of devastation, I'm told. Stories abound of people urinating in the street and drunkenly causing annoyance... As we know only too well, it was ever thus.

Thank God, the good guys won playing football.

Now, let's hope we beat Dundee Und.

Tell all the huns you know
that Novos the new Sebo
with a minute to go
he fluffed it like Flo
and its gonna be three in a row.

Heartbroken

I saw the front page of Scotland's (most thoroughly absorbent) newspaper this morning in WH Smith. It was a violence / blood / yob free zone, containing instead a picture of a vanquished Barrington Ferguson and chums and the large headline "Hold Your Heads High".

Absolutely; Rangers and Scotland have a lot to be proud of, what with the arrests not hitting three figures, a handful of countries not receiving the violent images, and the fact that no-one died (although that was a close one, apparently).

Only the uncharitable would suggest that utterly failing to try and win the game, and thus grab a once in a lifetime opportunity, is perhaps something to be ashamed of rather than proud, but thank goodness Scotland's number two (in all respects) tabloid is above such pettifogging nitpickery.

Ahhhhh.... I feel so...so light and fluffy this morning.

The sun is shinning and all is right in the world.....

Paul67, Congratulations to your clan. Being born on the day that they get beat in a European final has a certain ring to it. One to enjoy in later life.

For many years I have struggled to find words that would suit and fit the billy boys. Sky news has after all this time provided me with those words.

SUSPENSION OF CIVILISED VALUES.

oH deary me.

Hope this works as we truly thank you for our latest blessing:

S'funny, but none of my Rangers supporting colleagues have made it into work today. I know that one was in Manchester, and another is off playing golf at St.Andrew,s, but the other 1688 are nowhere to be seen.

Strange that, eh??
