Celtic 2-0 Hibernian, 11 May 2008

| | Comments (273)

Goals from captain Stephen McManus and Scott McDonald won the points for Celtic in an entertaining match against Hibernian.

Despite wave after wave of attack in the second half Celtic had to wait until three minutes from the end before McDonald added to McManus' opening goal which came late in the first half.  Hibs looked ragged in the second half but contrived to create several chances on the break that forced a string of fine saves from Artur Boruc who had his best game of the season.

Shunsuke Nakamura almost opened the scoring when he hit the post with a free kick from 25 yards after Hibs had the best of the opening exchanges.  The opening goal came when Celtic's passing game began to break down.  Lee Naylor raced forward but over hit the ball however he recovered well to charge down the resultant clearance which ricocheted for a corner.  McManus headed home from the resultant Nakamura corner.

Hibs' Martin Canning received his second booking on 83 minutes which eased the pressure slightly on Celtic before Scott McDonald headed the second goal when allowed space at the back post following a Barry Robson free kick.

Hibs still managed to force Boruc into an excellent save before Ian Murray received a straight red card for a lunge at Aiden McGeady who had raced away with the ball.

2nd?

McDonald's 'goal'

for anyone who missed it on the other thread

McDonald is the Celt to the left, miles offside obviously

Thought Naylor was very poor today, almost cost us a few times,
is Hinkel injured?

gsu

Excellent game today made really enjoyable by Hibs giving it a go.
We deserved our win, but we made it hard for ourselves with Scott McDonald being the biggest culprit. I hope that he 'uses the heid' a bit more in 11 days time.

I am not convinced by Samaras - but I think that Fletcher looks like a hell of a good player - anybody think we should be trying to snap him up?

I suppose thats everything evened up now...
2 good goals and 2 stonewall penalties denied in one weekend and who benefits again..

Hinkel had a "knock" unspecified - so Wilson played. I thought he was off the pace a lot of the time but then he hasn't played much. Naylor was poor again going forward.

Paul 67

When was the last time the huns won 3 away league games in a row? That is what rangers are going to have to do to win the league IF CELTIC WIN THEIR LAST GAME. I reckon they may not have done it since the turn of the year so what tiredness also a factor Celtic still have an outstanding chance of winning this league. F.E.A.R False Evidence Against Reality, Motherwell, St Mirren and Aberdeen ought to remember that.Onwards to 3 in a row.

HAIL HAIL ROCCOBHOY

Agree on Fletcher the boy looks a player..

Don't know if your bothered about the article iself.
Skip to the end for a decent punchline...

rammybhoy,
no where near being offside, the wee bit extra in the goals dept would have been nice.

Anyone heard about the SPL response to Craig Levein's comments from yesterday, sounds like he was summing up a season of Rankers getting a helping hand.

gsu

Great photo Rammiebhoy.

That linesman on the far side gave Celtic absolutely nothing all day.

But we are all just paranoid aren't we?

meanwhile down in England, soft penalty for Man u and scholes not ordered off when he should have been. The ref is the reverend in disguise.

Looks like Man U have unearthed their very own Rev McCurry in this Bennet guy.
Some shocking decisions from him today.

Lynott67

just goes to prove that all refs make mistakes!

You copy cat Lynott FC!

I really hope Dundee United lie down us assuming the ref and SFA haven't just awarded the title to the huns anyway (in sympathy for losing the UEFA Cup).

For the numerically challenged amongst us, can anyone confirm that we have , effectively, a plus 8 GD, ie, plus 7 as it stands, and three more on goals scored, although, the goals scored differential is irrelevant if they score more than three in the two games against Motherwell and St Mirren.

For practical purposes, then, they need a four and three goal victory margin net over both games.

I think, even allowing for the fact that Mike McCurry (hack, phut!)won't be in the middle for either game, it doesn't look too likely for the free flowing, free scoring anti football-ites, does it?

Soooooo, any failure on their part, in ANY of their remaining games to take MAXIMUM points, and it's advantage us.

Provided we remain as focused and professional as we have been over the past month, I'd like to think we can do it.

No huge score.

No huge swing against them.

One goal, that's ONE goal, at Tannadice,(provided there are none at Pittodrie) anytime in the ninety, can win us this league.

In spite of everything

Pastyface- i agree
You get two kinda cheats , honest and dishonest ones,we all know what catergory Dishonest Mike falls into.

Goal difference only comes into it if they get four more points than us.

For example, if we win at Aberdeen (3 points) and they draw one and win two (7 points).

In that scenario if we win by one at Dundee Utd they would need to win their two games by a total of 9 goals to take the league on goal difference.

Paul

Do not believe i witnessed AB's finest performance of the season today.
Fine performances against Spartak(h), shakhter(h) spring to mind.

Hope today was not his final farewell at paradise.

and Man Utd are denied a stonewall penalty..

there goes the English conspiracy

Should the huns drop any points to the Mothers, which seems unlikely the pressure then shifts to ex hun Gus and his team to ship a barrowload on Monday week.
Or we could have the huns travelling to the sheepdome needing to score six! and this aint going to happen to a Jmmy Calderwood team , is it?

Rammy
evening up - scholes should have been sent off in the first half

Here is Craig Levein blasting ref Mike 'HUN' Mc Curry

Wee Chick "I'm a St Mirren man, honest" Young stutters all the way through it, priceless.

I expect one of two things, either the Laptop Loyal gloss over it or they will come out lambasting Levein for bringing the game into disrepute. I expect Duffield to hammer Levein in the off-season so not to prolong the incident in the spotlight.

Villa take the lead against west ham, Everton drawing at home

Naka MOTM today.
Delighted he is staying another year, bearing in mind he has played continuously for 2 years.
Should come back even better next season after a rest.
Surely the final show of Mr Naylor at paradise today.
Should not have been recalled following injury to the 2nd huns game.

Just in from the game. I really enjoyed it, a good open game with both teams playing some decent stuff. I thought, even allowing for the chances we allowed Hibs as a result, we played some great stuff today and McGeady had one of those days were he was virtually unplayable.

Good ovation at the end for the bhoys, should give them a lift going into next Thursday. I remember being at the League Cup Final of 2003 and staying on right through the presentations giving the bhoys a magnificent ovation. My wife was wondering why we weren't getting out sharpish but I just said 'This isn't just about today, it's for Thursday as well (when we went to Anfield). I still think back then that got them going again immediately and hopefully today will do the same for next week.

Did it suddenly dawn on anyone else after the second goal and the nerves disappeared that it would probably be the last time we saw Artur at Celtic Park? It was as if everyone suddenly realised and gave the big man a couple of minutes chanting that he will probably never forget. I hope I am wrong but I just got the feeling.

We've done all we can, and if offered this situation after Motherwell at home we would all have taken it gladly. Let's just hope luck smiles upon us over the next 10 days or so.

HAIL HAIL

Blindlemonchitlin and Gordon J - the GD thing is confusing, but remember in making up seven in goal difference, Rangers would score lots of goals, so unless we beat Dundee Utd something like 5-4, in the event of goal differene being identical they would probably have scored more goals. Make sense?

The Championship beckons for McLeish. Blackburn have equalised at Birmingham and Reading now 2-0 up.

Chelsea score --

Schevchenko

down to goal difference at moment

Good performance today, well done to the team for playing well and getting a result against a good hibs team under what must have been tremendous pressure.

I am a bit more concerned now that none of Rangers' opponents have anything to play for, given the delay between the games I'm sure some players will switch off but winning 3 away games on the trot can't be easy so here's hoping!

Hopefully Scotland's other traitor will get what's coming too.

Reading 3 up

Everton take the lead 2-1 and Birmingham 2-1 up but I still think they would be down as Reading are 3-0 up

Bryce

lets hope so

Panini Euro 2008 update

My bhoy now has doublers of Wolciech Lobodzinski and Jakub Blaszczykowski number 246 and 241

a F*** there is the ice cream man another two pound lighter no doubt more doublers

Fulham have scored that would see Reading and Birmingham down

SOAL

How the hell do they manage to fit their names on those wee stickers?

Giggs makes it 2-0

Andy Gray just said: "Football has a way of rewarding the good guys."

Let's hope so.

Sven's having a blinder - 0-7, to Middlesbrough!

jvoh67
Can I join your group? Scott Booth really is a toad.

middlesborough are goal crazy today 7-0 against a ten man Man City

Birmingham 3-1 up but its relegation for you McLeish.

MJ88,

Exactly my thought at the time!

GIRU the ginger traitor!!!!!!!!!!!!!

full time fulham win 1-0 bye bye big Eck

Now 1-8 at Middlesbrough, and 4-1 to Birmingham but it doesn't matter.

Bolton score at Stamford Bridge

full time at Wigan Man Utd champions

Pleased for Ryan Giggs. A bit past his very best but I've met him and he's a genuinely really nice guy. And what a servant to Man Utd.

Giggs a diving little toad. Pleased for McCurry as well?

MAN UTD supporter wearing the Celtic FC Jock Stein t-shirt!! at Wigan

Just back, good game Barry & Paul superb,Gary another class game ,distribution exellent.
TimMaloneWillTell & Lynott67 , Fletcher has potential however we need experience and a goal scoring track record.
Keep the Faith

A great game of football today and superb entertainment. Robson and Hartly played very well in the middle of the park and JVOH had a good game as well.

If we're honest I think most of us thought the league was gone a few weeks ago, so to take it to the last day is a great effort and both the team and manager deserve much credit.

Personally I think outcome of next Saturday's game will decide the title. The Huns will be mentally and physically exhausted and need to get a result away from home against the 3rd best team in the league on a crap pitch. If they come away from Fir Park with all three points I don't think they'll falter against St Mirren or a poorly prepared Aberdeen side.

Anyway, it was good to see the players getting a lap of honour after the game today and the sing-song reminded me that regardless of what happens oner the next eleven days I'm part of something special.

Hail, hail.

p.s. does anyone know who does the version of "Let the People Sing" they play at Celtic Park?

Macjay @ 11.39 our time today: thanks very much.

Yes indeed, you're correct about both the gig and the accomodation. I expect to be there from July 2 to 22. There's a certain German visitor coming too (I don't mean Andy Hinkel). Meeting up would be great and not too difficult to arrange, I'd have thought.

Kitalba and Macjay both: please post any info you get about Hoops matches; I'll do the same from here.

Nice to see

Big Egg's luck finally run oot

Thought it was a good game today - Just back and watching it back on setanta - Would have been nice to grab another 1 or 2 but a few good performances out there today. Well done the lads.

Just back from the game - good display although the nerves were jangling throughout given that so much depended on us bagging all 3 points. Great performances in midfield from Robson and Hartley. Hartley was like a terrier breaking things up, mopping up mistakes, tracking back. Scott Brown will be wondering what he can do to get back in the side.

Aiden also had a good game, at least in the 2nd half. Hibs had 2 players on him at all times and sometimes 3. Skippy gave 100% but squandered quite a few gilt-edged chances. JVOH faded second half and Samaras didn't do a great deal when he came on (I don't think he's worth holding on to - think we should be looking for a proven goal scorer- I'm sure this debate will be a feature on here in the next few weeks). Fans great throughout especially after the 2nd goal went in and the pressure was off. Great YNWA and Let the People Sing during the lap of honour. A resounding Holy Goalie for Artur towards the end.

On now to Tannadice and hopefully the title.

COME ON THE HOOPS!!!!

A good, lively game to watch today even if it didn't seem quite right to be in a darkened narf Landon pub while the heat outside is splitting the flagstones.

Bloke next me and I were musing that there are currently few more thrilling sights in the game than Aiden setting his shoulders and off on a goalward run. And there was plenty of that today, especially in the second half. Almost took the mind off McCurry.

P.B.J. - oh spare me. Why don't you read about what I said yesterday about McCurry.

Let me tell you a wee secret. Celtic players have from time been guilty of the odd bit of simulation.

More examples of curruption:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/foot...em/1729193.stm
Rangers went two clear seven minutes remaining. Brebner lost the ball in front of his defence. Ferguson picked out Flo, who had time to bring the ball under control and drill it past Colgan.

Minutes later, it was all over, when Rangers were awarded a penalty and Hibs had two men sent off.

A shot from Fernando Ricksen struck the prone figure of Laursen on the arm. Referee Mike McCurry judged that it was a deliberate offence and flashed a red card at the dazed Dane.

It was a rather bizarre decision and one that the Hibs players took exception to - with McManus taking his argument too far and joining his team-mate in the dressing room early.

Averladze slammed home the penalty kick once order was restored.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/mai...5/sfnabe15.xml
ABERDEEN have made an official complaint about referee Mike McCurry after their 2-1 defeat by Rangers on Sunday.

Match official McCurry angered Ebbe Skovdahl, the Aberdeen manager, with some of his decisions, including not awarding two penalties and a challenge by Fernando Ricksen on Darren Young.

http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sp...int.2377123.jp
HIBS left Ibrox with a raging sense of injustice once again, convinced referee Mike McCurry had robbed them of a point as he waved aside claims for a penalty.
There was little doubt that John O’Neil’s cross had hit the hand of Bert Konterman - which was far above his head - as the Dutchman tangled with Mixu Paatelainen.

StPatrick

Problem is that experienced goal scorers in their prime will cost a lot more than we can spend. A young guy like Fletcher with undoubted talent and a lot to prove could be a better partner for McDonald than either JVOH or Samaras?

Excellent result today and it's good to see us all happy. Hopefully the league will go our way.

TimMaloneWillTell

Stephen Fletcher is a fantastic prospect but you can be sure that Hibs wont let him go for any less than the price we paid for Brown. If we are to sign him we will need to go with a big suitcase full of money.

Bryce Curdy - If I wanted to read about your admiration for Ryan Giggs I would have went to a different web site. So please - you spare me.

TimMaloneWillTell
Fully agree,we have a big scouting staff, they need to deliver and the board need to spend,we do not need a rebuild just a couple of key signings and I would not spend big money on Samaras to big a risk.
Keep the Faith.

Paul, CQN'rs....hope you are all well. Much to enjoy today. I must admit, we would ALL have been raging beyond belief, had we dropped points - given the penalty claim and SMD's 'offside' goal being disallowed. I was walking home after the game, thinking the ref had a reasonable game....then I realised he had got TWO big decisions all wrong. It just didn't affect the outcome (apart from our goal difference).

On another topic.....let's consider the fate of Birmingham City. No-one down there believes that they would have gone down had they not changed their manager. This is not a shot at Eck (fun though that would be...:).

Just a reminder that changing managers is the riskiest thing a club can do.

I also agree with the poster that thinks if they don't drop points at Motherwell, then they won't drop any. But we'll see....

I Agree - the Motherwell game is the best chance of them dropping. We have done all we can for now - time to sit back and hope the next 2 results destroy their season.

4-0 Zenit would be nice but please no more extra time and penalties!

C'mon Dick stand up and perform!

After the weekend's results, the title odds have been unaffected.

Rangers 8/11
Celtic EVS
(Stan James)

I would have fully expected Rangers to have shortened. Maybe the bookies know better?

What seems to be forgotten is that the huns game v St Mirren is the last ever at Love Street. They, and their fans, will be up for it and its not the gimme everyone thinks for Scotland's Shame

will video evidence be used to ban broadfoot and cousin. like it was used against Bobo a few years back?

I agree about Steven ( see, we don't mind it not being a 'ph') Fletcher.

Great prospect and would grace our side as an alternative to big JVOH (who is working his socks off, despite it all) to a much more significant extent than either Samaras (thanks for last week, hope you do it next week, but not worth 3 million of ANYONE'S dough) or big Killer.

Glad to see Skoosh giving him the chat before the game today.

I wanted to say something else before logging off and running about very fastly, trying to pretend to Mrs Blind I've been busy while she was out, but I can't remember what.

Panic setting in.

Gary67

So will the P A Hun DJ

TrueTim-
That seems to be an awful lot mistakes that Honest Mike has made throughout his career.
The evidence is mounting!

I think it's significant that Ranger's victory yesterday marked a rare occurence for them as it was one of the very few games which they have won over the last few monts over 90 mins. They won but they needed the referee to do get them out of jail. Can they they go against form and and win their next three games without a ref to help them out ? I'm not so sure they will myself.

Blindlemonchitlin, correct.

ceaser1967, I think my point remains valid, it sure was close to his best performance of the season.

Weeron, very well, thanks. Agree on changing managers.

That was a cracking day out!
The second goal was very welcome and the singing at the end was top class. All the team can do now is win the next game and wait for the footballing ghods! :-)

Great day, great performance, gerat result, great support at the end.

Love the way Naka brushes the grass smooth with his hand when he's placing the ball for a FK like it's a giant snooker table, seems to work too, unleashed a couple of crackers today.

Ulster-Celt,

Cousin was given a yellow card (wrongly) by the ref so I don't think they can look at that. But Broadfoot is different.

Mind you, would we want the man who can't take a throw in to be banned?

Watching Murray what i can only call assault on Aiden it reminded me of my only ever conspiracey theory(have plent of paranoid mates without adding to them) BUT on Helicopter Sunday can anyone confirm that it was not actually NACHO noscore who scored but formentioned MURRAY who had last touch and at the time had signed a pre contract to go to the pox....

Gary 67

St Mirren's new stadium is not due to be ready until November time, so I don't think it is the last game at Love St. The Huns will be able to make up some goal differnece that game.

On the previous version of this blog, and a different Nomme de guerre, I opined, nae testified, to the integrity of the RMMcC, stating my sincerely held belief that he was honestly poor and somewhat incompetent whistler whose mistakes when highlighted could be, certainly in legal and reasoned debate, be explained and accounted for!

My dear friends I now offer an unreserved apology fo rthis position which I now rescind. If my belief was true and he was simply incompetent and poor then the very best I can now offer is to say he is a down right coward and an unworthy hoder of his esteemed refereeing position.

I suspect that his poor standard, incompetence and cowardice is still the most likely answer. Using that worthy figure of the Scottish Enlightenment, David Hume as an unlikely predecessor, if the most likely explanation of a mircale is that the alternative is even more fantastic and difficult to explain then simply 'plump' for the most logical answer, Occam should no doubt agree with that hypothesis.

If he bottled it then how the RMMcC can now face his god an without a red face and subsequently any of his congregation and inplore honest of them in to me at least in comprehensible. If the alternative is true and he chose to show bias he is, in my humble athistic opinion even less qualified to wear the robes that become any minister of any faith!!!

It is my undestanding that DU have requested a review of the standard of refereeing demonstrated at Ibrox yesterday however, in religeous terms, I fear they are sowing seed on a stoney path and their protes however valid is unlikely to take root.

I hope I am wrong my dear friends in Celtic, I fear we have already lost this league as the 'establishment' will simply not be beaten and will ensure at all costs their preference is triumphant

Keep - the - Faith (in Football)

RAG Daddy

No wonder Rangers were so eager to offload Cousin, the man is a liability. He makes absolutely no effort and rarely scores. He's more interested in throwing his head around than working for his team as was evident when he got sent off as his team was fighting for a Uefa Cup final. He was lucky not to get sent off against Dundee United also which could have cost them the league. No wonder he was HATED by his previous fans eh?

It's great though, can you imagine a team spending 3m on him in the summer now. I'm glad he stayed.

Gary67,

I was told from my mate who is a St Mirren season ticket holder that it won't be their last match. It looks like they won't move to the new stadium until well into next season due to red tape issues.

As for the match, I'm just back from the stadium via the pub.

I thought Paul Hartley was immense today with Robson not far behind. Hartley broke up so many attacks today and always seemed to be well positioned when Hibs threatened that he started to remind me of Lenny.

Towards the end of the first half I felt we'd started to lose our way a little bit, well, before Naka's free kick anyway.

Second half we came out flying and if we'd scored in the first 10 mins then I'm sure we would have got more.

Four of us had an argument in the pub after the match regarding the two red cards. Being in the north stand it was hard to tell how bad the foul was on Robson that led to Canning's second yellow. I thought it was just a committed tackle between 2 committed players. By that point though Aiden was giving him such a roasting that I doubt he'd have lasted much longer anyway. As for Murray I was absolutely delighted he got a straight red and felt it was fully justified. The ball was that far in front that you could have called it an off the ball incident and been correct!

A terrific ending and now have to try and get tickets for helicopter thursday.

p.s. Bryce Curdy,

I agree with your sentiments towards Ryan Giggs. Fitting that he should score the goal that sealed their title at that end of the ground.

Just watched Noel's link to the Craig levein interview on Setanta during which he mentions R**gers 11 times and never once mentions Celtic.

When it goes back to the studio Rob MacLean says..

“He wants foreign referees introduced over here because he thinks some of the home based refs and officials can’t handle the pressure of ibrox or Celtic Park.."

This is what we are up against. Every slight against them gets labelled as "the old firm".

On todays game.. delighted with the result and thought we played very well for the most part. I am glad that if the worst comes to the worst we have at least taken it to the last game of the season..

The huns will be hoping that yesterday was their 'andy davis' moment and it will be enough to secure them the league, but who knows. Maybe the record defeat in a european final that they're about to be subjected to will demoralise them...

What is the record defeat in a european final BTW? Do the huns hold the record for record defeat in a european semi final when they were pumped by Eintracht Frankfurt?

Hail Hail

FTS.

chris sutton is a legend:

From my view, it looked like Canning went in with his studs in the second challenge, if so it was undoubtedly the reason for the card. As for the second, was worse than Whittaker's on Naka!

Sorry I didn't text after the game, it turned out my friend from uni was drafted in to sell pies, so I stuck around and got a free steak pie when they had finished!

Overall though, Robson was immense today. He got stuck in, always looking for the ball, composed, and has more skill than is given credit for.

ftsimpson,

I think a four goal win is the record in single game European finals. There have been a few 4-0s over the years and of course Real's 7-3 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

completely off topic but was just wondering about the budget the huns are talking about giving smith for next season...£8M - £10M. This comes at the time of reports of the huns making £20M in Europe this season.

Does that mean they are giving Smith the Hutton cash and not a single penny of their European income? I'm sure the media will be demanding answers! I'm sure McCurry didn't ask for too much cash, more of a favour, so they should cough up for Wattie :)

Ctaxahobeu,

If that's the case then the second yellow was obviously merited.

No worries with the text. We went to The Crown and watched the EPL as my two first goalscorers, Rooney and Lampard, sank without trace along with my £10.

p.s. Did you get down to the stadium early?

Just to check on Rangers task in the league (with or without referees' assistance).

Rangers have played 16 away games and have dropped points in 50% of them.

Eight wins from Kilmarnock and ICT twice, Falkirk and Gretna. Their two best aways were beating Hibs and also Hearts.

Four draws included Motherwell, Aberdeen, Dundee Utd and Hibs.

Their four defeats US twice, Dundee U and Hearts.

All in all Rangers have to improve their previous performance against Aberdeen and Motherwell to win the league at Pittodrie and Fir Park. It is not clear that they have room for improvement.

chris sutton:

Aye, I walked down for about 11.50, so got enough time to work out how to use the turnstile and find my seat, read my program and watched the ground fill and the atmosphere build. JVOH looked like he hit someone in the crowd by accident when he skied a shot in the warm-up, but that might just be my imagination running wild!

terrific performances from caldwell, hartley and robson, and a good few crucial saves from boruc saw us through today.i don't like criticize any of our players but naylor almost had me oot ma seat shouting as many times as the ref did today, surely a leftback has to be the number one signing priority in the close season.anyhow still hopeful for tir hoping to get a ticket for the united end for a week on thursday

does anyone have 100% legitimate, legal, cushty links to todays goals?

cheers!

Aplogies if posted before, just back !!

Lubo.

Their 'budget' is smoke and mirrors.

There is no 'Hutton' money.

As I understand it, Murray owed ENIC a sginificant amount in repayment of thier having withdrawn their investment in the Huns.

ENIC, as major shareholders in Spurs, arranged a 'book exercise' in transferring the agreed transfer fee foe Hutton strisght to the Rangers debt.

No cash, no lump sum, no money to spend.

Imagine the reaction from the Hun support to that if they hadn't been carrying the luck of Beelzebub since the turn of the year.

I remem ber the other stuff now.

A few questions.

Do the maths, re McCurry.

It was established yesterday, by Terry O I think, that the home game against Dundee Utd was the SEVENTH game involving the Huns which Mike McCurry has referred this season ( figures not available, I presume, for fourth officialing).

That made me think.

How big is the pool from which Grade 1 referees are drawn?

Which professional body supervises them( ie to whom are Dundee United complaining) the SPL or SFA?

Who allocates them to a specific game, the SPL or SFA?

Are the allocated by the League (as opposed to the SPL) for the CIS?

Do the SFA allocate the Scottish?

How far ahead are the allocations made?

And , finally, have any other Grade 1 officials refereed any other SPL club as many as seven times this season?

Numbers, lhads.

They confuse me, but they rarely lie.

Mick and Skippy and for good measure, Naka's fk

Gary 67,the majority of them will be getting the reversible scarfs looked out, that's how much they will be up for it.I've not been a big Gary Caldwell fan,but imo he's been one of the main reasons for the better play in recent weeks, that and the introduction of both Hartley and Robson in mid-field.Well done Gary Caldwell. denmhan

If you heard the Radio Clyde interview with Craig levein straight after the game the interviewer asked if he felt that they couldn't get a decision against the old firm, Craig levein answered who's talking about the old firm, I never mentioned the old firm , I'm talking about today's game.

Anyone else think it's a virtual certainty that Rev McCurry will be the ref at Tannadice on the final day?

Or do you think that would be considered too blatant following his run-in with Levein?

Now this list is copied from the SFA Whistleblower site, and for some reason, does not include McCurry. However, 33 refs are qualified to ref at Ibrox. One guy gets 7 as you say.

If 'Category 1' is not the same as 'Grade 1', then I have this wrong and apologise, but on that site, there is no list of 'Grade 1 refs'

Blindlemonchitlin,

McCurry has officiated 6 SPL matches for them and 1 LC match. 1 ahead of Clark and Richmond.

I checked the top 4 teams in the SPL and no other team has had the same ref officiate more than 5 matches.

JC2 :- My records show it as N. Novo scoring, though I do think you are right about I. Murray signing a pre contract.

Blindlemonchitlin :- I'm not 100% sure but I think you are wrong on the A. Hutton transfer. I'm sure I recall Paul answering it once before.

cheers "...paradise".

great result and performance - well done to all, including all those at the game

it's gone to last game, we're in with a shout, they've got it all to do, we can't complain...

mcgraininspain, thanks for the reminder. I should have praised the players first before moaning about a wretched, cheating referee...

Well done to all of the Bhoys today - with great performances from Robson, Hartley & Boruc especially. Good performance from Dean Shiels for Hibs too, smart wee player.

Hail Hail, and onto the last week!

Blindlemonchitlin

Totally agree that their "Budget" is smoke and mirrors and the work of the Murray spin doctors.

For a club whose only income is through the turnstiles having sold their catering, tv and merchandising rights £20/25m is a figment of the Laptop Loyal's imagination.

Paul any idea what have we earned in Europe this year compared with those on the darkside?

Well lhads and lhasses, we simply sit back, relax and watch them unravel like the cat's yarn of wool.

Well done WGS and team - another last day cliffhanger may be on the horizon !

Can anyone tell me how to complain about Rob MacLean on Setanta? His attempt to bring us into Craig Levein's utterly justifible diatribe against EU's mob is utterly ludicrous. Levein no where mentions us. Equivocation, mere cowardice or simply rank bias (remember his sinister remarks about Artur Boruc) is the only explanation. He should be removed from his post immediately. Levein was criticising McCurry for HIS bias towards EU's team, nothing more nothing less.

Setanta, with their track record of Hateley and Booth are obviously touting for their support. Their English commentator must be bewildered half the time.

Parkheadcumsalford

what I found even more astonishing was the fact that Rob MacLean felt the need to justify McCurrys decisions by saying that he was a Christian man, as if that absolved him of his sins.

Edward

i now have access to that fancy Youtube thingy
and if you look at link below just over a minute in then
either Murray or Keeper get last touch....

Also my comments about assault by Murray were made on seeing it once at the game......seen replay on youtube and it wasn't as bad as i thought

Have I got this right?.. Rangers last league away win (5 games ago)was against Hearts on 27th Feb?

Someone should peddle this stat through the media... "Gers are two and a half months since last away win" - crank up the pressure and make the Rangers players very aware of how poor they are on the road. The more it's drummed into them the weaker they'll feel taking to the field. Compare it with the "never kept a clean sheet away from home" we got every Friday in the papers before a league game. It no doubt affected us.

I've posted this video before, but I think it deserves as many viewings as possible. This will remind me of Seville until the day I die and I will be forever grateful that I was there (well, the big telly bit !!!) These occasions only come around once in your lifetime (unless you're as old as OldTim67!) and this was mine.

Enjoy

The Celts In Seville

Ps, I wonder if we'd be in this position if the manager had played BR from the day he signed him ???

Just watched Iain Murrays shocking tackle on McGeady again.

Wonder where he picked up those dirty tricks ?

If McCurry was ref today-

he would have booked Aiden for diving.

Back to my question on the last thread:

Who can tell me the significance of the game Celtic played on May 21, 2000 (beating Dundee United 2-0 at home)?

Answer: It was the last league match that Celtic played in which they weren't already contending the championship or already crowned champions. In the MON and WGS eras, every year has meant either being crowned champions or at least taking it to the final game of the season. I thank these two men for making it so compelling to watch Celtic in recent years.

Please take a break from posting here.

JC2 :- You are correct in that one, my memory was playing tricks.

Pablophanque,

The wumin about 20secs into that Video is my mate's mam, Maggie (the one with the long black pigtails!).

She's a legend!

E.D.B :- Sorry but no, if the owner of the site were to ask me to do so then I would but not otherwise.

Maybe it's been mentioned before, but did anyone hear Traynor on his phone in last night? A lad called Shaun called in to complain about McCurry's performance, he made the "mistake" of referring to him as,"The Reverend McCurry" which prompted Traynor to go on a sort of bullying rant, repeating, "Shame on you!" over the caller's attempts to argue his case.
He really is an ar*e.

Greenlion, long time no yappy.

ref last nights comments on Mr David Provan.

I worked with his brother who glorified in the nomme de plume of "Roddy the Proddy".

As you say, his father was known to attend matches at Celtic Park and in particular was very complimentary of how Celtic supported his son through his terrible career ending illness.

Roddy, was very similar, at time went on and he matured ...... he became even more bitter.

pablophanque,

I watched it when you posted it a few days ago and it brought back all my memories of Seville.

You are 100% correct. I have just watched it again. It does deserve repeated viewings. Thanks for posting it and feel free to do so as many times in the future as you wish.

I, for one, will always have time to view it.

Also agree about Barry Robson. My friends and I spoke about this again recently. One of them said it was a blessing in disguise that Brown booked himself into a suspension or Barry may still be sitting on the bench to this day.

Edward ursarse,
what are you playing at coming on here and cosying up to us, beat it at get down to Manchester with the rest of your neanderthal clan. You threatened to or may have indeed left the site before, whats your angle? playing psuedo intellectual footie heads with us. your lot are all the same, dressed up in their protestant superior blazers and spanking little ties, showing british reserve at all costs till the drums start and the peasants boot you in the balls. Then it starts, put them in their place, we arra peepel. Walter Struth or whatever you call him, ned supreme.......Scotlands Shame!
Either call time on the disease you have endured till now or go- yes or no!

The irony was lost on Traynor(maybe it wasn't) that he kept saying Sean Sean Sean Sean to reiterate that by the same name association that the poor guy was obviously a paranoid tim before he even started on his point.

Of all the pundits on the radio i think he is the worst i hate
spewin on real radio but he is just stupid.. Bonkers is just out to annoy everyone but Traynor does seem to have an agenda.

Ed

Think again.

You continue to stand up for your bigotted club on this fine site.

Take the break that I've requested or I'll leave.

Can anyone post a link to the video about Henrick Larsson, with the Willie Nelson song "i Guess I've come to live here in your eyes" as the background track?

Bhoy's,

What's the problem with Teddy Bear?

I thought that we were "The Good Ghuy's".

celtic football club is open to everyone

hail hail

Whilst I consider the logic of Rangers very poor / inconsistent away form suggesting 3 wins in a row might be beyond them, it is worth remembering that we are now in 'uncharted territory', in terms of the depths that this 'great wee country's' 'establishment' and it's crew will go to, in order to prevent Celtic from succeeding. The last few weeks has seen a level of bias in reporting, commenting, and officiating like I have never seen. Every trick in the book has been played, the screw will be turned even more when they return vanquished from their '17th place play off' match in Manchester this week, in 18th place in Europe vs Celtic's 9th equal !

It is down to how this affects them IMO. Wednesday will have an impact IMO.
