Frank McGarvey on always-available Scott McDonald
Earlier in
the season I wrote about the courage, heading ability, tenacity and scoring
prowess of Scott McDonald, but after the turn of the year his form dipped;
nothing went right for him, typified in the penalty miss against Rangers two
weeks ago. Since that moment, however,
things have started to click again.
I asked Frank McGarvey about Scott's performances this season and about the pressures of being a Celtic striker. This is what he had to say:
"What I
like about Scott McDonald is he doesn't bury his head in the sand. He hit a poor penalty against Rangers but
didn't hide and got into a position to create the winning goal. I spoke to Scott earlier in the season and he
told me he was confident when taking penalties, but missing penalties is part
of the game, you need to be able to handle it.
"After that
miss he continued to show for the ball and make himself available.
"There is
an enormous burden on a striker when he is not playing well, which Scott wasn't
recently, but even when he isn't playing well he occupies his opponent and
makes sure they don't have a good game either.
"His face
was a picture of sheer relief when he scored the first against Rangers on
Sunday; that will have helped his confidence and I'm sure contributed to him
getting the second goal.
"It took
bottle to finish as well for the first goal, you have 60,000 people watching
you and millions on television, your whole world is looking on. He is going to be Celtic's most important
player for the next three games.
"He should
probably have been rested a month or so back.
I remember Billy McNeill telling players to take a few days away with
their family when they were going through a bad patch, you need to allow the
player time to clear his head and freshen up.
"I remember
going five games without a goal and everyone I met wanted to speak to me about
it; the pressure starts to pile up. I
only realised the pressure of being a Celtic striker after I left the club; you
are not allowed to go into work and have a bad day.
"Remember,
the Celtic strikers are playing in a team who lose a goal almost every game;
they will know the pressure is on to score not just one goal, but probably a
couple."
I asked
Frank whether playing two tall strikers would limit a team.
"You need
variation in your play, but height is not an issue; it's what they have in
their armoury that matters.
"After an
important win, especially in Europe, there is an anti-climax ahead of the next
game. It is difficult to reach two highs
in the one week; just look at the ratio of wins Scottish teams have after
winning an important game.
"It's hard
to peak in every game; other teams make it difficult for Celtic as well,
playing Celtic is their big game.
I asked Frank McGarvey about Scott's performances this season and about the pressures of being a Celtic striker. This is what he had to say
Cadizzy, thanks for outing me on the blog.
Can't make any promises at this stage but I will try to get to BBs after the Hibs game if at all possible.

The form of Scott is crucial to our run in. I have no doubt that when 'he dipped' -'we dipped'. He will be motivated at Fir Park and his confidence must be high after the game against Negative FC. A solid defence and tough, yet creative, midfield supporting Skippy and Jan will see Motherwell off.
Hail hail
Unfortunately we have not been able to rest Scott Mcdonald because the alternatives in his position- Miller [sold] Riordan [unselectable] and Zurawski [unselectable and then sold] could not ,nor in no circumstances would not, be used to spell him.
With his two goals last week, I think Skippy is over his dip. Let's hope he repeats his hat trick of earlier in the season
Dick Byrne, hope to see you then
Jinkyredstar, my flight back is at 19.40 so drinks would have to be at a central location i.e.BBs. Joe Jordan then did the same thing to the same team 4 years later! The Melrose Bar. Is it still there?
All well and good unless Skippy gets his inevitable hun-sympathising-ref-inspired soft booking. Then isn't he suspended for the next three?
Ben Hutchinson or Chris Killen could yet turn out to be the Mhan who clinches the SPL title for us!!! As long as their hunbelievable luck runs out soon.
So Paul you seem to have resigned yourself to the fact there will be a season extension. Is this the clubs attitude if so its a big climb down from Peter Lawwell's statement last week. This matter should not be brushed aside and forgotten and I expected you at least to put up a fight. Yes they have more games than us but why should we make it any easier for them.Come on Paul and Celtic show some balls!!!
Cadizzy
BB's fine for me.
A that night in '77 - my return from working in the Clennie in Edinburgh.
The Melrose finally closed , last year I think, it ended up a bomb site. Remeber the Cocktail Bar and Wine Bar (bottles with corks'n everything + Pate and Chees-) - all this in sunny Greenock.
BigChipsUK quite likely , I would have Samaras on before Killen or Hutchinson. Haven't seen the youngster in any SPL games Killen tries hard but not Celtic class. Hopefully skippy will stay on the park with JVOH and Sammy.
BCUK - I think if he get's a yellow[ rather than a straight red] his suspension would carry over to next season. He got sent off in the last game of last season and couldn't play for Celtic at the beginning of this.
McGarvey was a terrific striker (Liverpool reserves all-time top scorer, I believe) but he went down in my estimation when he left the club with that "Celtic don't want me" carry-on - and a few other things.
AdamTrask: I agree. Celtic should have challenged this properly in my opinion. Incidentally, did anyone see the Rangers fan at Glasgow airport making a Nazi salute on the BBC news today?
Hurting ?
No, can't say I am.
Hurtling towards tomorrow with hope in my heart.

From my previous post: "As long as their hunbelievable luck runs out soon."
I obviously meant the royal "their", not Ben's and Chris' hunbelievable luck.
Hutchison has shown that he has pace, something that I think we lack. Skippys positional play helps him get that extra half yard but he is not the quickest. However Hutchison is not the man for the run in he is one for the future as WGS says.
Despite his critics I would call on Killen if need be - did he not get us a late headed goal at, I think, Gretna?
Paul interesting to see that Frank this we lose a goal nearly every game. As a team with the one of the best defensive records in Britain I dont know where he is coming from with that. We are averaging losing a goal about every 2 games. And if you take the 7 we have lost in 4 games against the huns we have a really good record against the rest of the league which should give us hope for the next 3.
Jinky/Cadizzy. The old smelly finally closed its doors about 4 or 5 weeks ago after opening and closing on a regualr basis for the last few years.
DBBIA ?
Rudi Vata, the problem with Killen is that was his only goal. OK he hasn't started much but neither has Samaras (and even fewer sub appearances) but he has scored. So he would be my first choice. I'd then take Hutchison with his pace and maybe no goals instead of Killen with no pace and one solitary goal
AdamTrask, I have no idea what the club’s thinking is on this, but I have not seen evidence that the league broke any rules by extending the season, even an administrative rule.
I would be delighted if the club could find a reason to oppose this, but I’m not aware of any grounds.
GL2, we have lost goals in 6 of our last 8 games, only Aberdeen and Gretna have been clean sheets.
I think Jan shows you can score goals without pace but he always seems to be popping up in front of the goalkeeper to head in whereas Killen seems to be hovering around the edge of the 18 yard box.
I don't think we have played to Killen's strengths but he also looks to have a really poor touch, which probably improves with games.
I would like to see Hutchison get a shot if one of our main two is not available. Samaras is a very good footballer but he needs to know when to inject a sense of urgency into his game in my opinion.
Does anyone agree that Samaras would not be worth signing for a huge fee, say anything more than the region of 3million? To add to that, any ideas what man titty want for him?

STOP PRESS: A first even for me - someone signing "No Surrender" at 2.30 on a non-match day.
Apologies for re-posting but my previous effort ended up on the end of the last thread. Is there any word on big Mick's injury and whether or not he's likely to feature tomorrow?

WeatherbeatenGreenhouse- I don't suppose you've such a thing as a spare ticket for tomorrow?
GL2- They must be shell-shocked, the way the last few ganes have gone. Thank god the Telfmeister has retired and won't be playing tomorrow to rub in the NaCl. Having said that, home win.
DBBIA/CARLabrUNItedCSC
TheMaestro, I would take Samaras at 3m as long as his wages are reasonable. He's a 23 year old international who has already proven that he can add to the team. His best years are by far ahead of him and I think if he stays he'd be a first team pick next year. He definitely gives us something different with his mix of height and dynamic play. 3m isn't that much for the modern day footballer.

Paul, I was led to believe the new schedule was put forth without the consultation of the spl board, and any such actions could only be authorised by said board. Is this not the case? And are we to believe Peter Lawwell we vehemently oppose it one week and the next not comment. He said the proposal went against the integrity of the competition, harsh words I think you'll agree, has he since privately backtracked or do we await further comment?
Paul in the last 6 games how many saves has Artur made? Also we have been taking more chances in the last few ganes out of neccessity. I believe its an easy statement (lazy journalism) to make blaming the defence for our short comings when in fact overall they have done not bad especially considering the injuries they have had throughtout the season.
The woodwork MUST be empty now…
bhoy sean- i agree with you, my fear is that they would try and get maybe double that money for him which would be a bit much for me, but you give many good reasons to get him on board. I think he may be hit or miss, greek ghod or greek tragedy!!!

Some wise words from a Celtic great. Thanks Frank.
A couple of years ago I moved house and needed some joinery work done. The company I was dealing with subbed it out and I was told that a Frank McGarvey would be at my house the next day. Coincidence, I thought.
Next morning, bang on time, Frank himself knocked at my door! Not only did he do a great job he spent the whole time talking Celtic with me. A great Celt and a gentleman to boot.
Heavy Hailstones- brilliant! Prog rock at its proggest.
To my humble eyes FXMcgarvey will always be the Bhoy of Summer.

Excellent development there with the Netherlands and Belgium (although they need a better name). If only we could get in on the act. At least it would set a precedent and pave the way for a genuine alternative for clubs like ours.
The only thing is, our appeal, like those of the top Portuguese clubs, is all about the huge international TV audience we would attract. I would be happy to be proved wrong, but the Low Countries don't have that.
Portugal are the bhoyos for us. We could call it the Scotsport League.

I was thinking about the DVD that will come out for the magnificent Govan triumph. Good luck to the guy that has to find enough highlights to fill it.
Yeah we have seen two different sides to Samaras but I've been heartened by the fact he has scored in the games which he's played poorly. It is difficult for him as he hasn't played that many games to get used to the system and his team mates because Scott and Jan have cemented their places. Maybe he hasn't played too often because Gordon doesn't want his price tag to go through the roof.
C1st - it could come out in a special' scratch'n'sniff' sleeve which would fill the nostrils with the scent of urine on Catalunyan marble.

bhoy sean, I'm sure it's been widely reported that we have already agreed a fee with Man City for Samaras so the only unknown factor in terms of cost would be his personal demands.
You make a good point about his age & lack of starts etc. but I have to say I'm not convinced. I'm inclined to agree with Gaudd on e-tims who said;
"You can't help feeling that Samaras would be a fine player if the beastly opponents treated him with the respect he feels he deserves and gave him all the time he needed to set up a shot. As it is they don't, so his effectiveness is limited"
I wouldn't be upset if we did sign him permanently but I'd hope that we are considering whether we can do better with our £3 million plus.

Canamalar :- From last thread. You are partially correct though it's not only dumb lurkers who may think you are a closed minded bigot from reading your post I get the impression you are one as well and I'm neither dumb nor a lurker. You say I pay lip service to anti sectarianism and anti racism I say you are either very ignorant about me or you know from previous posts about efforts I have mentioned about how I try to deal with this but choose to be a liar.
I remember often praising Paul67 for this site, it was a great source of football news and had something different from other sites, the ethos of the site was tolerant, intelligent, knowledgeable and welcoming recently this has changed a lot. I could come on here and argue and debate with folk about opposing views and it was mostly done in an atmosphere of mutual respect sadly I now get the impression this is now only possible with an ever decreasing minority. Sadly it seems tolerance was only extended as long as Celtic were in the ascendency
In no way do I blame Paul for this he has set up a public forum which as they all do evolved and changed but I feel the way this one has changed is that it now has a far higher proportion of "haters" than at any other time. Reading through the blog recently has reminded me why I stopped logging in to Follow Follow, the same hate, the same dehumanization of others because they don't share your views and now once again I'm being called a sectarian fascist. To those haters among you congratulations you have achieved two things, firstly you have removed a source of pleasure to me, no big deal in that I suppose, secondly you have at last managed to drive me away, well done I'm sure you are proud of yourselves.
To those such as Paul, his dad (sorry I'll not be able to steal your copywrite sign off Martin) posters as diverse as Kojo and WinningGemmell, others such as Pablophanque, Greenwellsglory, DBBIA, PJBhoynyc and the many others that I won't try to list as I'd be sure to leave someone out and wouldn't want to cause offense :-) I'd like to thank you for the welcome you extended to me when I first posted here, I'd like to thank many past and present for the debates and discussions, for the daft jokes and the many subjects outside football that were posted about. I would also like to thank those I met at the birthday night in Hamilton who again made me feel welcome. To all those who have spoken in defence of me at times and argued my right to post on here I would like to give special thanks to and hope you don't feel let down that I have finally came to the decision that I can no longer post on here or count myself a member of the CQN community. To the haters, next time you go on about how bad Rangers fans are, how intolerant they are and how much they look down on you how they use terms like scum and filth about you try to remember some of your own posts recently and you may be surprised at just how much you resemble the bigots you complain about.
Paul, for the final time congratulations on the site, you had a vision of the sort of editorial pro Celtic site you felt was missing and through hard work have built it up into what became almost an institution and one that brought me many hours of pleasure I can assure you that despite the way I think it has gone recently I wil miss it. I honestly hope it never becomes just another site.
To everyone on the site whether they approve of me or not I'd like to wish you and your families a long happy and healthy life.
All the best.

Guys on here who know you have spoken very highly of you and your posts give an indication of why they do. In my view, you have bent over backwards to be fair and honest and reasonable in all that you have said. From reading your posts, I can tell that you and I share the same views on very many things apart from football allegiance. I wish you all the best (in a non footballing sense) and hope that you do in fact reconsider. Take a leaf out of Sinatra's book and let's see a comeback.

I am not on to plead with you to come back, and in fact it may be too late already, you may be gone.
My thoughts have always been that it must have been difficult for you to come on to the site and contibute as you have done for so long. But your reaction tells me one of two things
1 you have been chased by the recent tone of some posts and are away to find bloggers new to discuss life and Rangers with. Or
2 You are starting to feel the pressure. You cab now see that we are going to win the league and that after watching Zenth last night you know they are going to give your hardworking team a footballing lesson, and that you just don't want to be around when you only have the CIS cup to show for your season.
All the best, to you and yours but not to your team.
Edward Ursus @3:30pm
Don't go Edward! Tolerance on both sides will lead us to a better future. I think the downard CQN trend you refer to is a reflection of the increasing popularity of the CQN site among the Celtic Supporters and their increasing apathy towards the press/media, i.e. the more who logon and comment the more the 'extreme' voices will be heard amongst the 'rational' ones.
I don't know if you saw my comment on you from a month or two ago, but basically I said that if I had a 'Personal Top Ten of CQN Contributors', your name would definitely be in there. I see no reason to change my mind now. Also, please see my own comment of today @11:32am, and the abusive response I got at 12:34pm.
I hope, Paul67, that it is still safe to say that this site is open to all... If not, I might just decide to join you Edward.

Come back.
Your friend,
WinninGemmell,ML2 (Real Ale Across The Great Divide Clique of Two, Celtic Half)
So Rangers managed to get to the UEFA final - I only just found out when logging on here. Well done to them and Zenit. I really don't care whether they win this or not, or the Scottish Cup for that matter. The only time I ever care about how they do is when we are playing them or as in the league situation now when we need them to drop points. In my mind, them being in two finals is good news for us. More games, more distactions etc. Every single game they have remaining in the SPL is more important than a UEFA final. We are going to win the big prize.
Zenit vs Rangers has an Intertoto feeling about it - what has happened to the standard of this once coveted Euro trophy?
EdwardUrsus
Ed - it was inevitable that you would eventually be seen as the face of the fod on here, particularly when they are doing well.
Your right, we're on top then you are a good guy, and we are even gooder for tolerating you, then your team gets on top and you become a focal point for our contempt of all things rangers.
You mention the FF website, I'm amazed that hasn't been shut down, its bung full off mr mad loony bigots inciting hatred of all things Celtic, and when you come on here its inevitable that some will see you as a visitor from the FF website.
However I would encourage you to stick around, you are brilliant at justifying why you support rangers, I've yet to see any one convince you that your backing the wrong team, for that you get full credit.
OK become a lurker for a while, but I'd be well upset if you quit permanently

Edward,
You are entitled to your views, and to stop posting if that is your wish. But one statement that you made cannot be allowed to sit without challenge.
"Reading through the blog recently has reminded me why I stopped logging in to Follow Follow, the same hate, the same dehumanization of others because they don't share your views"
This statement IMHO exposes the fundimental difference that exists between the followers of two clubs that we support.
FF, which I read fairly often, exhibits all of the bigotry and hatred of all things felt to be Catholic/ Irish/ Celtic that tipifies what Rangers Football Club stands for. RFC is an institution with a long and vile history that we all understand very well. Any moves ever made from the club have only been carried out grudgingly and under pressure from the footballing authorities. Catholic players were only signed when UEFA theratened to ban the club from its competitions. The singing of certain songs was only challenged after the UEFA fine.
That is why many of us describe our feelings towards the club as hatred. It is not a sectarian view, it is not simply the loathing of an opponent. It is an outright opposition to everything that your team stands for.
Many Rangers fans are open bigots. Not a few, but in my experiences of living in Glasgow and the West of Scotland, the majority. I've talked before, as have others, about many people I have come across who stopped following the club as adults when the understood just what they were supporting, what they were contributing their money to.
There are, clearly, a minority of Rangers fans who are not bigots. But they choose to follow the club anyway. They choose to give money to the institution. To me, that makes them tacit supporters and apologists for the bigotry that we all know still exists. And has been amply demonstrated by the recent Famine song.
To compare those of us who hate your club with the bigots of FF is a very unfair comparison in my opinion. It is like calling anti-facists bigots because they oppose racism. Or concluding that those who hate the BNP and all it stands for are somehow evil for hating Nazis.
We are very different from Rangers supporters, Edward. I am proud to support my club and to oppose RFC and all that it stands for.

I do try to educate as much as possible!
Edward Ursus,
I have always been a lurker but your post has actuall made me get involved.
If you really do just leave this forum then you are giving a massive victory to the intolerant. I have many freinds who support the dark side. I have many who are of different races and religions.
Diversity is a very good thing.
Please come back, I thought you boys didn't surrender.
JVOH67
This site is becoming more an anti-rangers site then a pro-Celtic one.
I know what rangers stand for, but are we to become the other side of the same coin?
Ed has been an excellent contributor here, far more articulate then some of the more recent bloggers.
We are becoming obsessed with rangers, why?
It's inevitable that they will win trophies from time to time.
Always remember Seville/ A love-in of 70,000 Celtic fans.
Leave the hatred and bile to others.
Enjoy the company of those rangers fans that are not bigots, and yes they do exist. Ed is living proof.
Ed,
Don't let the few chase you away. That's how they win. As someone who's father is a Rangers fan, but who put no pressure on his 4 sons - each of whom are now not only Celtic fans but season tickets holders and shareholders - as to which team they supported, do not let the canamalar's of this world get you down.
As for you Canamalar, to have the attitude you have confessed to, well I for one think you are every bit as bigoted, small-minded and half-witted as those whom you proclaim to detest.
In effect you are calling my father a bigoted fascist.
Well you are a sad, pathetic clown and I for one will be scrolling by your posts from now on.
I had my fill of guys like you as I grew up, who regardless of the fact they had never met my father - like your case with Ed I would presume - called him all the names under the sun, and abused me for having a rangers fan as a dad, without having the slightest clue as to what sort of person he was and is.
Yes, rangers do have more than their fair share of bigoted fascists, but to proclaim that ALL who support them are such is just downright foolish. We have our share of clowns as well don't forget and by your post I would place you alongside them.
I cannot believe that I am posting this against a so-called fellow Celtic fan, but unfortunately this is not the first time in my life when I have had to take such a stance, but hopefully it will be the last......although I doubt it.

Your disappearance will be a victory for intolerance. Get a god save the queen t shirt and come back and stick it in front of their faces :-)
We dont need to agree , we dont need to appreciate the same things but we do need more tolerance and more bridges.

no pleading.
i dont agree with who/what you support.
i hate/detest rangers anti-football club
but, dont give in to blind bigotry, scroll on by.
Canamalar- u sir are a bigot. plain and simple.
this is a wonderful site.
but with fan-base building it was inevitable some
right stinkers would sneak in.
unfortunatly thats what comes with the price of success
it seems...nuggets.
Edward,
I hope you stay around and read some of the positive comments about your good-self. Maybe they will make reconsider your self-imposed exile. As an avid reader an none contributor(one post I think), I always enjoyed your posts, and have you as an articulate, pleasant and funny person, although a tad ugly. (never met you but expect that, considering who you follow)
I not only enjoyed your posts, but the reaction by fellow posters to them, and the banter, and sometimes jovial nature that followed.
Hope you reconsider, and anyone else who feels that maybe its time to move on, please note that you will making a large number of us lurkers feel like joining you. Paul, and all you regular posters make this site what it is. Keep the faith!! and the Heid, life's too short.

I know that I'll be disappointed if Ed quits but I have to agree with your post, an excellent explanation of the main difference.
AdamTrask, we subsequently learned that the board had authorised the executive to set schedules earlier in the season.
GL2, agree on saves made but Frank didn’t blame the defence.
Celtic First, indeed.
Kojo, are you trying to start a riot? :-)
Frank was indeed a fine player, a natural goal scorer who never stood still. He was always on the move; left then right, then left, then right.
On Edward’s post….
I could see this coming. There has been a perceptible change in courtesy recently, which I hope by my recent deliberate antagonism towards a certain football club (eye on the prize) I have not contributed to.
Welcome JVOH67.
I'm thinking of leaving this site if DBBIA stops appealing to prurient interest.
Win tomorrow my bhoys and we'll win the league.
I'll be there to give the bhoys a cheer and I think we will see a serious 12th man level of support tomorrow.
I don't post that often, but read the site just about every day at some point - as I have right from it's beginnings.
I have to say that in general, the diversity of opinion in (for the most part) reasoned tones, has enriched CQN and is the reason it's so popular. If I want to tell someone to f off or refer to them as scum & filth, then I can hop on to many sites - there's plenty of them about but there ain't many like this.
Ed the Ted has been part of that diversity and his contributions excellent. The site would be the poorer for his absence.
Ed - your mob might win the Uefa Cup but you'll never EVER win the Big Cup - and you would swap the next 25 league flags and Uefa Cups just to get the big one.
Now get back on and debate that statement. You know it makes sense.
Hail Hail.

t the zenith of our greatest time, my late brother's best friend who is to this day a staunch rangers man went to every European home game and was a great admirer of that Celtic Team. He is a true footbal man and I would aspire to be more like him.
Your insight, fairness and sense of humour will be missed I think that if we reflect on the reasons you joined this community and also the reasons you give for leaving it will hopefully return some perspective to us. I for one hope you reconsider and am sure many more will agree.

Ed,
Agree with most of what's been said here, don't give up.
We need guys like you posting the view from the other side. I too know guys like yourself, who go for the football and can't be bothred with the garbage that goes with it. One of whom was at CP to watch me play in the Football aid game, not sure I could have done the smae had he been playing at Ibrox, I think that say's more about me than him though :0)
If you do decide you've had enough then I wish you well in everything but football, you come across as a very decent guy.
On the Edward issue :
He supports a sectarian organisation so it may sound harsh but I have no sympathy for him.
I know a few blokes who started my University course as Rangers supporters but thankfully didn't end the course as such. I know Scottish people in London who went to Ibrox once after they moved down south and swore they'd never go back.
We all have choices.
Edward
In the heat of the end of the season, where we are challenging for the retention of the league and your team is fighting on many fronts in a way I certainly did not participate, comments themselves are likely to get heated. That is inevitable. I have always admired your desire to put your head above the parapet, lay your cards on the table and defend your corner in a constructive and intelligent way. There are many on both sides who do not do that, and this site Paul has created is largely free of that type. We alwys strive to argue in a positive and constructive way, but occasionaly someone will take offence. THat is also inevitable.
Please reconsider, ignore all that is not banter, and continue to contribute to this excellent website. I have always welcomed your comments and would continue to do so.

Hi Edward, that post at 4:22 was for you as plea to reconsider unfortunately, I seem to have lost half of it. If you decide to stay away then I offer you and yours my very best wishes and if you ever find yourself in the land of the plastic huts then it would be my pleasure to ply you with some of the finest malts ever stilled.

No thanks are necessary as I was just calling it as I see it. But you are most welcome.

Ed,
When I'm pushed for time but have a couple of minutes to scroll through posts and pick out one or two to read, yours is always one that I'll stop at. Always good value and interesting. I've never met you but I sincerely wish you well.
Come away the hoops - down with that other lot.

Ed,
Over the past few months you have been one of the few voices of sanity on a blog which is rapidly becoming a forum of back biting and personal abuse. The site is rapidly becoming an anti rangers site rather than a Celtic site, you should just scroll by the poisoned comments of the half wits who daily show themselves to be just as bad as the people they label as bigots.
I wont bother asking you to reconsider as I fear it is already to late but I wish you all the best, from your many posts you seem like a decent guy and the blog will be worse for your decision.
As for the cretins who have driven Ed away you should be ashamed of yourselves, you are every bit as bigoted and bitter as the other mob but sit there trying to take the moral high ground. I always thought as a support we got behind our team, while a vast section of the Rangers support spent there time being anti Celtic rather than pro Rangers.
Alas I fear to many of us have gone the same way. Every home game brings more abuse to the players for every mistake, our manager is derided daily with more venom than than I can believe.
I wish sometimes we could go back to the eighties and ninties when we won little but had a real Celtic support who stood by the team.
Paul as for the new site it is looking great, but alas I feel the site is not the only turning point for CQN this week, I feel the site is now more intolerant than ever and regular good guys like Ed will leave more frequently and the site will become just like all the others. It was once a refuge from the nonsense on other sites, alas no longer.
You alone Paul can do something about this before it is to late.

Sir Paul
Me start a riot?
Sure...like the storied Insect...said....to the Dormouse...
"I cannot help it,pal... IT IS MY NATURE!"
In point of fact... you.palomine... Have indeedly, contributed to the general uprise in anti-G.A. feeling that has permeated this hallowed spot....lately?... well, it is always there, lurking in the under-tow... but,as someone has pointed out .... The recent success of our rivals has increased the anti-G.A fervor.
Getting back to your contribution in all of this...like I said... you are partly responsible... I did say Partly?...Partly!.. Partly!....unintentionally? Mebbe so.
However....
Your said Contribution, has been Only, to the Extent...that ALTHOUGH, YOU DO NOT SMOKE...
YOU DID BRING IN... THE MATCHES!
Where do I stand in this matter?
I know that you do not need to ask....
So, in light of that.... it would be a complete waste of time, for me to state how I stand!
Speaking of the possible attainment of the doubtful services of George....
Put me down as a steadfast... NON BELIEVER IN THE GREEK'S ABILITY TO ADD ANYTHING OF VALUE TO OUR ATTACK!
To express it, in a more Transparent way...
FUGGETTTABOUUT Da Bum!
Kojo.
Corrrrrrrr! this is a sparkly prutty site Paul67 ; drew me back in, I am like a Magpie.
I have been traveling for work and had another boy (Colm Patrick) so been busy but always lurking.
Hi to everyone it's been a while. Quick question. Now Rangers have made a farce of European Cup competition -Does the league extension snaps into affect?
edward ursus.
My Father was a protestant, and he was a very good protestant, when I reached working age he explained to me about the working practices at that time, this was early 1950s.
He told me that when I went for job intervues "they"would ask about my schooling, and that I would struggle to get a decent job,I was a bit sceptical about what he said, but he was true to his word.
The jist of what I'm saying,is theres good and bad,in all walks of life,And I put you down as the same type of person that my father was, good at heart, and wouldn't do harm to anyone.
I've not had a great deal of truck with you on the blog, but you were always civil to posters, myself included, and as Jim The Tim said, he rated you high amoungst posters, although I myself never said it, I rated you as a good poster,And I think you should come back to what you do, posting.
We as Celtic Supporters, are a wee bit hurt at present, and some are inclined to vent their anger, and as you are one of the few Rangers supporters that we have on the site, you will bear the brunt of their anger.
But Edward, think of the good times you had posting, and forget the odd bad day when the shit is being flung.
Paul67,
dont go blaming yourself for Ed´s exit. Sorry Ed but it was always going to come to this. I dont think that this years shenanigans coupled with Celtic frustrations and Rangers successes exacerbated this situation. Take it easy on yourself.
The crux of the matter here as Gordon_j so eloquently describes
doesn´t he always is
To me, that makes them tacit supporters and apologists for the bigotry that we all know still exists.
Lets face it that´s what Canamalar was getting at in a very extreme way. They may not be fascists sorry TTT but they have definitely compromised personal principles. I have many Rangers supporting friends and family. They may dislike what they are part of but by being part of it they support it whether they like it and accept it or not. Some people can shrug it off other cant.
Ed
The FF jibe was a real cheap shot and you should know better. I warned you before that a large section of the Celtic support cannot come to terms with the above personal dilemma which is a moral compromise. To think that by supporting Rangers that you are morally corrupt is patent nonsense but you carry a responsibility and you have to accept that.
You makes your own bed you have to lie in it.
I will be so unimpressed if you walk away cos you will be walking away from the truth and that´s always a bad thing .... and what are you going to do instead .. contribute to FF ?
Do you love Rangers and what it stands for more that the truth ?
Colin Glass, former chairman of the Rangers Supporters Trust, said: "We can only hope Zenit do not use all their allocation and more Rangers fans can get their hands on them.
"I would expect this match to attract the biggest travelling support ever seen for a British team, even eclipsing the supposed 80,000 Celtic fans that travelled to Seville a few years back.
BBC Scotland.
Note the bolded part.....even when Rangers do well they can't help themselves but have a pop at Celtic, is it really any wonder most of us hope they get royally pumped on May 14th.

As someone who has defended EU's right to come on this site (and admired him for it), reading his (last?) post has saddened me. I hope I haven't contributed to his going and, if you're still out luring Ed, I really hope you come back to us.
