George Peat faces potential resignation issue

| | Comments (346)

It is curious that SFA president George Peat told the Daily Record, Rangers "exclusive" media partner in their latest attempt to extend the league, exactly how he believed the SPL should arrange their affairs just hours before meeting the SPL to discuss the very same.

If the SFA have something to say to the SPL they should do so directly, seeking to bring undue influence to bear by establishing their case in a newspaper is unprofessional.

Full disclosure on this issue is required.

Did Peat speak to anyone at Rangers on this matter, and if so who, when and how often, or did he act alone?

Did he confer with Queen of the South before publicly offering to reschedule the Scottish Cup Final?

Did he establish if there was support for this motion among the member clubs, and if there was, who supported it?

If Peat succeeded in moving the final of the sponsor-less Scottish Cup (another wholly unsatisfactory issue) without establishing if support existed among SFA members, without conferring with Queen of the South, but after consulting with Rangers, he has reached a level of inadequacy Jim Farry could only dream about.

Only full and quick disclosure on this matter may prevent calls for his resignation.

The SFA chief executive, Gordon Smith, sounded decidedly uncomfortable this afternoon.  The former Rangers player said, ""It is difficult for the SFA to arrange fixtures especially when they have members who also have agendas."

In the history of Scottish football I am unaware if it has ever been difficult for the SFA to arrange fixtures.

Why Gordon Smith chose to publicly involve himself in this dispute by accusing member clubs of having agendas is most alarming and worthy of clarification by the chief executive.

I wonder just how much pressure was put on little QoS by hunsters - Smith and Peat of Airdrie to move the Cup Final.

While it could be argued that Manchester is the huns biggest ever match. There is no disputing the fact the the Scottish Cup Final is the biggest match in Queens history and JUST as important to them as the league or UEFA cup is to rangers.

Yes Peat certainly has much to answer. The is more than one club under the SFA. He has the same responsibility to them as he does to his first love.

damn a virgin as well

My first 1st. WOOHOO!

Cheats and opportunists.

Smack Duffield.

how would anyone prove private discussions with the rotten mob ??

The fool Duffield is there to inflict maximum damage on Celtic's ambition.

TESER

Why does nobody who supported having another extension actually mention what they would do, taking into account all the ramifications, and come up with an sensible, fair, alternative.

Why ? Because there was none.

Why ? Because that would embarass them

Why ? Because the truth hurts. You are where you are, pity results didn't go your way, what a shame. Scotlands Shame.

Paul,

just reading on another board that Smith offered to move the cup final....without consulting QoS.

never mind Peat, go for the man at the top and the rest will follow follow.

Blogger GG - "SMACK Duffield" - didn't know he was into that ! Scandal :-)

I meant to add, it was in a interview with real radio.

So if the SPL had agreed to play a round of league fixtures on the 24th May then QoS would have been told to play a week or so later whether they liked it or not?

The Narrowbhoat Tim

the cry was no extension, i love it, we should sing that on Sunday

anyway has anyone noticed that Strachan used to be a lot funnier,

I Reckon its the scottish media that have made him so bitter

http://www.bhoy4life.com/STRACHANISMS.htm

he doesnt really say anything like this anymore

Kevtic, I understand that Queen of the South were not even called on the matter.

Welcome pather tim.

Gerry, as above, that is what I believe happened.

Peat and Smith have gone beyond their remit by offering to move the Scottish Cup final without authority.

I thought Gordon was quite funny when asked about Artur's T-Shirt.

Is the Laptop Loyal to blame for his lack of humour or is it some of our own support cdomplaining about him not being serious in interviews? I love it when he shows the Winalot Journalists contempt.

Hello

New/old poster (everytime CQN changes I lose my previous identity, but nice to have my old one back!)so no need for welcome.

A few random points about the SFA:

- Peat and Duffield's mandate is to protect the interests of all members, not just one or two clubs.

- Above all, its mandate should be to protect the integrity of its signature competition, the Scottish Cup. Changing the date at the 11th hour is not the way to do that.

- Isn't this the same Rangers who withdrew several players from the Scotland squad recently, only to play them a few days later? Isn't this the same Rangers who poached Walter Smith? As the song says, what have ya done for me lately?

- Why, considering that the two scenarios have been public for some time now, has the SFA only woken up to this issue now? I didn't see them offering to move the semi-final date, did anyone else?

I can't believe just how much crap is being spouted over the bluenosed brigades attempts to move the goal posts again....and again....andf again.

If UEFA Cup means that much to them why don't they simply play a reserve side in there next 2 SPL fixtures and stop yapping on about it!

You'd think the SPL had kidnapped Walter and was holding him to ransom the way the media are reacting.

I hope with my every fibre of my being we run away with this league.....and stick it right up em'

Slightly off topic but if I may, can I offer my thanks, via this site, to the Bhoys and Ghirls of the South China CSC who made the recent game v Rangers such a laugh and made us so welcome.

Go Raibh Mile!

I still find Gordon funny and he still comes up with some great quips in the press conferences. He was funny during the training day when he was explaining a crowd through a passing and move drill. It went something like this:

'You'll see Barry sweating profusely right now, that's because he hates this exercise, he finds it difficult. Let's watch him shall we, ah he's done well, we're happy for Barry.'

This is a very Scottish scandal. Unlike Italy or Portugal there is no money involved. But scandal it is.

Questions may well and should be asked.

Some may indeed ask what you are asking, Paul.

...but the agenda has already been set.

The SPL won't be commended for standing firm ... AND THEY SHOULD BE.
The SFA Gers won't be condemned for their statements ... BUT THEY SHOULD BE.

A mere smidgen for a decent site like yours Paul but almost a record for the Beeb.

Some other questions for Mr Murray that won't be asked.

What happened to your drainage system?
Why couldn't you win games against lowly opposition to free up some valuable time? No support forthcoming?
Why do you NOW care that nobody seems to like you?
When you said you weren't going to ask for a season extension did you not mean that you wouldn't ask in public?
Why has this changed?
Why has your publicity machine hit the skids at a time when you should be basking in the glory of fighting on 4 fronts?
Just why are you moaning? You should be happy!!

and finally ...

Did Celtic get any help in moving fixtures when they acheived a record breaking and yet to be equalled haul of 6 trophies in one season?

oh and a question for thr aulderhauns...courtesy of MR Matt McGinn

Caller on Snide:

Every Rankers player should look after themselves and pull out of the national squad.

Don't they do that already?

My instincts tell me, had the workshysters won at the weekend and we had dropped points this farce of a debate would not have happened. Plans should have been made to play the motherwell and Utd games 2 weeks ago to allow them extra time to prepare for the UEFA final IF they made it.! Thats when this situation should have been settled. Motherwell on a tuesday and Utd on the thursday. This was;nt proposed by Martin Bain back then because I believe they did'nt really expect to get to the final and , more importantly, they were going to do us at Celtic Park.

I fully believe things are bad on their treatment table. Really bad.!

I have never known such a shambles at this time in a league.

I cant wait till its over.

Your post about Ed on the previous thread. Do I read you correctly in your saying you would never allow a known Rangers fan into your home?

If that's the case then I am sure I'm not alone in being disappointed. I thought we were more emlightened than that.

Evening all,

Have to say, I am stunned. Stunned that Rangers have not gotten their way, stunned by the intervention of Peat and Smith, and absolutely stunned by Murray's reaction. Does he not have any PR advisors, someone to tell him what a fool he looks this evening?

Kudos to Gordon Chisolm at QotS. I am sure he is a hun, and it would have been very easy for his club to have been bullied by Duffield, Murray and Traynor, but to his credit he stood up for his club and for common sense.

Where does this leave us now? Well tomorrow should be interesting. And Saturday. Any dropped points and the league is slipping away from them. But we must concentrate on Sunday, we need maximum points.

As for Peat and Smith, I agree Paul, this is a resignation issue. If Fergus was here I'm sure it would be on the agenda. I hope PL and JR are thinking what we are thinking...

Paul

Can you give Estadio his log-in name back?

Watching that double act between Occam and pretend-Estadio who just happened to appear on the blog at the same time was painfully see-through lying.

We used to get a couple of late night hun imposters coming on with obvious drink taken. One had a sign in name with 3 short words and the other included a number and a word (Noel 90 and Bloke 109 are in the clear, cos the number came first).

I wonder if these are related?

I wonder if we'll hear from them at the end of the season.

Free the Estadio 1.

QOS may have been consulted but the fact that we now know that QOS did not want the final changed means that QOS view was going to be ignored. Or maybe there was no consultation. Either way, SFA officebearers have shown themselves to be acting only in the interests of only 1 member club ..... all the other member clubs should have good reason to ask for resignations.

Of course if Rangers want to be consistent, why don't they phone UEFA and ask THEM to move their final?

Quick note to introduce myself to your new surroundings.
Great time to set up the new site - the last month have been a headline writer's paradise.

Consequently all to play for over the next 16 days.

The only issue is what will be the outcome of a Govan implosion? Civil strife will only the be the start of it, I fear that the sense of disappointment will overcome the TFOD bam faction that makes up 20-25% of their support. It could get very messy.

Some men fight for silver
Some chairmen fight with Gold
But when they hear from Lawell
Some chairmen quickly fold

He is more serious which is down to the way the press and fans respond to his humour. It's a shame though because football shouldn't be treated in such a serious manner, it's meant to be enjoyable after all. I think if people went back through all his quotes since being at Celtic they would probably find a best of which would rival the pre-Celtic quotes. They just seem to get ignored these days for whatever reason. In England you could be sure that Soccer Am or some other programme would pick them up unlike in Scotland with Scotsport etc.

On a lighter note, i think i generally agre with the thoughts of this writer.

http://www.sportingo.com/Football/a8452_Celtic-need-spend-these-THREE-FOUR-players-summer

From last thread, sorry, i meant Zenit had games shifted not the league extended.

I still believe national assosiations should do what they can to help member clubs in europe, but should take steps to ensure this scenario cannot again come to pass.

Rangers are hurting, and they are shooting themselves in the foot on and off the field and could yet end up with very little to show for their efforts. I for one am loving it.

How many fixtures has the SFA left this season? I believe there is only the Cup Final and friendly against the Czech Republic on 30 May.

When was the date of the Cup Final set? The start of the season?

So what is Duffield on about?

He should be forced by the members of the SFA, whom he works for, to explain why he was prepared to move the Cup Final purely to advantage one team. Sod Queen of the South and the biggest game in that club's history. Forget how much more difficult it would be to get a sponsor for a discredited tournament. He tried to help Rangers regardless.

Sack Duffileld!

Paul67

Do you know if any of the SPl chairmen will raise the question's that you have just raised, through the media, and officially.

Great stuff Paul!

It seems that Rangers are not the only dogs that are being hunted down right now, there are one or two strays at the SFA that need to be chased out of town too.

Just think, the whole of Europe is laughing at us. I don't think I can stand the shame !

sftb

I don't know. Anybody?

Apologies for all the Bold. HTML tag user error/

Anyone listen to Clyde/RR this evening? I wonder what one of the Darylls or Keith Jacksie made of the day's evenements...

Let's face it Rangers are chancers; there are plenty of other teams who are the same in the modern game, and the old game and there will no doubt be more in the future. There is no point us getting particularly upset about this as we're better off just laughing at their desperation.

We cannot accept the behaviour of our national bodies though, I will forgive the SPL for wrongfully extending the season already as they have been under supreme pressure from a number of areas but the outright audacity of Smith and Pleat to completely disregard the rest of the Scottish game to favour one team is shocking and they can't be allowed to get away with it. The credibility of the game up here really is in tatters and this is the case because the media do not ask the right questions, they would let the SFA away with anything as long as it favoured Rangers. There are very few credible writers in the Scottish game, I can only think of Graeme Spears, Phil Gordon, and sometimes Glen Gibbons. They are the only ones who seem to see things clearly while everyone else seems to allow the game to fall apart around us. It's partly our supporters fault for still buying what they write, we need to starve them of oxygen more than ever.

As for the SFA I'm not sure what can be done about them as Celtic cannot take them alone in this issue, it calls for the Scottish members to join together and sort out football in this country or it'll forever be a 'pub league' as the English it. We can forget about tv deals and sponsorship as well.

Collusion, corruption and cheating

http://www.bhoy4life.com/establishment.htm

the establishment has been defeated

Sack the SFA Two!!!

SFA PRESIDENT George Peat.. ‘The Dundee United match can be moved and should be moved’ 5/5/08

SFA CEO Gordon Smith.. "It is difficult for the SFA to arrange fixtures especially when they have members who also have agendas." 6/5/08

Both these comments are bizzare.. and in the long run suggests that their positions should be untenable..

Peat talked to the media yesterday evening (can anyone confirm that he talked to various members of the media or did he speak exclusively to the daily record). Why did he not keep silent until he'd had a chance to talk to the SPL? Why did he feel the need to talk to the media at all, unless the idea was to apply pressure before the actual meeting? And why, if he was only talking to the daily record, is the president of the SFA talking 'exclusively' to the same paper that rangers are suddenly 'exclusively' talking to?

Who Does G.Smith mean when he says "members who also have agendas".. has anyone asked him? Is anyone going to ask him?

I still don't think we've heard the end of this. I think tomorrow the SFA will go back to the SPL.. AGAIN.. and remind them that they are willing to postpone the Scottish cup final, and suggest that they should postpone the last SPL game to the original cup final date.

The only other alternative the huns have is to say, with the backing of the SFA President and CEO, that they point blank refuse to play the dundee utd game at the weekend. At which point the nuclear button will have been well and truly pressed...

As for the idea that world football is laughing at what is happening to the poor huns.. I live in Thailnd and I can assure you that most football fans here are oblivious to who is in the uefa cup final, let alone what games they have to play beforehand...

Hail Hail

FTS.

Italia Bhoy,

Strangely enough neither were present on either channel. Unless jingle jangle was on RR earlier.

Snide had Keevins, Davie Provan and Mark Guidi.

Guidi actually made the sensible point of suggesting that from next season the scottish cup do away with replays.

Common sense, in any business, says that you should alieanate as few people as possible upon whom you may have to rely or work with in the future.

Goodwill is a resource to be carefully husbanded.

Making enemies is counter productive.

Motivating your staff in a positive way, whereby an employer will bolster self belief and avoid creating an atmosphere redolent with fear of failure, is basic business strategy, designed to maximise results.

How much of the above do Sir Minty Moonbeams ( business man extraordinaire) or putative Sir Wattie of Govan actually believe in?

Do they KNOW we've moved on from the dark days when commerce could be done in Masonic Chapter Houses, and a Brother's handshake was his bond?

What must those weary footsoldiers in the dressing room down Ibrox way be thinking?

If you tell your staff they are tired, unlikely to succeed and in a hostile business environment they're apt to believe you.

And fail.

If the shoe was on the other foot, and it had been Wee Gordon and the Sharp Suited One who were involved in very public gunboat diplomacy, doomed to failure ( quite apart from the amuiling they'd get ifrom our beloved free minded and independent press) what would we, the Celtic support, be thinking?

Good on you lads, way to go, or, oops, that was a bit of a faux pas?

You couldn't make it up.

I'd rather be in th Blue Square Premier League, at least it's big on the sporting integrity front.

Yes, we can sneer at Rangers, but what about that super dooper formula thingy racing car with Nacho Novo at the wheel that was on Scotland Today?
Add that to the marble staircase, the iconic facade, the Protestant superiority, David's knighthood...

if they done away with replays would partick be in the final????

The Evening Times got one thing right. Beside a photo of a snarling Murray, in Rangers blazer and tie, the headline screams:

'We're laughing stock of world football'

Spot on.

Sellick First.

'Sa trike, tandems is for small businesses!

The last 24 hours have seen a very unsubtle media campaign orchestrated by Rangers. In this, they appear to have had the support of the Daily Record, and of Peat and Duffield. Jackson's sly "there'll be a sting in the tail" comment on last night's radio clearly alluded to the contact that had gone on between Rangers, the SFA, and the Record.

Personally, I think this is a "Jim Farry" moment. I hope the good men in our boardroom see it the same way.

Firstly, The Record is a commercial organisation, they can line up however they want here. They have obviously taken a calculated decision to become a vassal for Murray on this issue. Personally I think it is a mammoth strategic mistake, because both their main footie writers now have zero credibility left, and the rag itself looks like a pathetic plaything for DodgyDave. However, this was their decision to make...

The SFA on the other hand is a completely different matter. This organisation represents every senior club in Scotland. They have one domestic competition to manage (one which currently has no sponsor), therefore they should be extra careful to burnish the image of their blue-ribband event.

But in offering to move the final to a Wednesday, the SFA have effectively devalued their own flagship tournament at the request on ONE club. They have placed at risk goodwill from sponsors, TV companies, fans of the game, and their other member clubs.

It is a breath-taking act of partisanship, shot through with astounding levels of arrogance.

Furthermore, if Peat and Duffield have actively colluded in Rangers' campaign, then without doubt their positions are simply untenable. And there is little other conclusion that can be reached, their quotes could only have appeared in this morning's edition of the Record if they had spoken to the Record/Rangers PRIOR to the meeting with the SPL.

And not only that, but it seems like they either DID NOT consult QotS on this matter (the biggest gane in QotS's history remember), or if they did consult them, they completely IGNORED that club's position that the final should not be moved.

And even FURTHERmore, the comments from Duffield about other clubs having "agendas" - a favourite line of his- need to be clearly explained. If not, then we must conclude that he is having a dig at Celtic, and regards our club's position as unreasonable.

In my mind, there is plenty of evidence here to support a vote of no-confidence in both men. I do hope it is on Celtic's agenda.

The best posts (for me) are the ones that make me think and a few have, here, today.
The first is that I think it is great that the Daily Ranger has now come completely out of the closet. Surely no Celtic fan can now buy that rag?
Secondly, I, like Estadio, am perfectly comfortable with Occam`s Razor`s contributions but agree with others that they are more juvenile and bitter in content than Ed`s.
Thirdly,we, quite rightly, condemn Rangers` fans for their awful behaviour but I have seen no praise for their vastly improved behaviour in European travels (I know they are still singing `The Famine` but maybe we are taking that a lot more seriously than it is intended. I know it can feel awful but I believe they really do sing it as a kind of musical banter). It is very possible that we are responsible for their improvement so don`t be nigardly in recognizing improvement where it occurs.
Finally, I am not certain that we are being totally honest with ourselves. WG got it spot on with his cake analogy but most of us, at some time, have quite happily gone for extras so let`s not go over the top in our criticisms of Rangers attempt to get more than their share from the trough.

Roccobhoy - correct on 2 and 3. Number three is an RGT (right good Tim). BTW it's not the hacks that need to be watched but rather the editors and the sub-editors, as was proven by the recent Big Jock headlines in the Record.

If Peat and/or Smith (of the Gordon variety) actually did agree/offer to move the Scottish Cup Final without either asking for QoS' compliance or in the face of QoS' opposition to such a move, they MUST be brought to task by the SFA member's, even those "with their own agendas".

Re. that quote, as far as I can see it, the only member team with their own agenda is the huns. Every other club in Scotland appear happy to have the SC Final played on the date scheduled since the start of the Season. Every other club seemed happy to have the league played to its schedule. 2 clubs even spoke out AGAINST extension that we know about.

ONLY 1 club wants the SC Final moved.

ONLY 1 club wanted the League season extended.

Seems to me ONLY 1 club has an agenda.

How many debacles must Smith be in charge of before he is given his jotters for not being up to a job that he should never have been given in the first place?????

Relay a message to Laporta from me. Firstly, Duffiel has a conflict of interest as his book will testify to. Secondly, as a member of the SFA impartiallity should be shown by it's CEO and president. None of the quotes suggest this. Thirdly, withdraw Celtic from future Scottish cup competitions as they believe they cannot compete in a competiton where it's been shown that a bias towards it's members clubs has been established by the CEO and president of the SFA.

Tell you what Gerry McNee who i aint got much time for will be overjoyed if we go after Peat. He's been campaigning for years on the issue. The time has come.

PEAT AND SMITH MUST GO!!

PEAT AND SMITH MUST GO!!

Not exactly rip-roaring, but a nice comment from Gordon in the Evening Times tonight, sounding as if he was tad miffed. Regarding Nakamura being targeted by Motherwell players in the opening exchanges on Saturday, he noted:

'To be fair the guy has been here three years now and has taken everything thrown at him, even last week when Steven Whittaker had a slice at him.'

The Rangers player was shown a second yellow for that offence, which was later described by Walter Smith as 'just a tired challenge'.

Strachan said: 'It's very hard to explain to someone when they are getting stitches in their ankle that it was 'just a tired challenge' because it can be quite tiring getting stitches'.

Cheers mkbhoy
genuinely much appreciated I like to know when I,m reading articles what team the journo,s support.

Thanks Again Hail Hail to 3 in a row.

1967 - Six trophies - EC, SL, SC, LC, GLASGOW CUP & GLASGOW CHARITY CUP.

No rearranged fixtures after the seasonns official end. plenty of postponements in the winter.

Simple rule of thumb should be applied for every postponement, they should immediately be rescheduled for the 1st available midweek date.

Funnily enough, I dont recall any Liverpool, Arsenal or Man Utd postponements during their respective runs to European cup finals.

In case anybody is interested there is a documentary on Celtic TV now about the 1970 European Cup final. Today is actually the 38th anniversary of that fateful day.

RoccoBhoy/Frever Anever,

Don't know if it's the same guy or there happens to be two McGarry's out there in journo land, but Ian McGarry (ex ML2er, now writes for the Sun or could be NOTW, can't remember for defo) is a big Celtic fan. Used to be season ticket holder, I don't know if he still is, possibly unlikely as he lives down in the big Smoke now.

Paul67,

Lex Gold and Iain Blair will become under increasing pressure from Murray in the summer. I hope SPL clubs to a man and specifically Celtic get ready to back them. Murray still thinks he can rule the league they way he did in the 90's. I think Walter thought the same when he returned. Him and Murray side by side to get Rangers back. What a shock eh??????

Murray's day has come and gone. Time has changed from the 90's. No one is in fear of them. The sooner they realise it the better. I would love to say Sir David even tempt to take on PL with the backing of DD. He will be chicken feed. DD has probably taken care of bigger people than Murray before. If Murray wants start a fight he better be ready to take the blows.

Again on the Evening Times, on the Rangers case, they speculate as to who was for Rangers and who against:

For:

Er, Rangers.
Possibly Motherwell (want league extended as they have several games to fit in)

Against:

Celtic
Hibernian
Dundee United
Queen of the South
TV Companies (Setanta, Sky and BBC)
Players Union (representations by players about losing money on holiday deposits - are you listening Wishart?)
Police (midweek final round easier to police)
Hampden

I remember another team who were in a similar situation to THEM and this is how it shaped....Here's a list of Middlesbrough's final games of the season when they reached the UEFA cup final. Were the domestic comps distorted to help a 'member' club????

Didn’t even come up!!!

Steaua Bucharest 1 Middlesbrough 0
APRIL 20: UEFA Cup semi-final first leg at the Lia Manoliu Stadium.

Middlesbrough 0 West Ham 1
APRIL 23: FA Cup semi-final at Villa Park.

Middlesbrough 4 Steaua 2 (Agg: 4-3)
APRIL 27: UEFA Cup semi-final second-leg at the Riverside.

Middlesbrough 0 Everton 1
APRIL 29: Barclays Premiership at the Riverside.

Manchester United 0 Middlesbrough 0
MAY 1: Barclays Premiership at Old Trafford.

Bolton 1 Middlesbrough 1
MAY 3: Barclays Premiership at the Reebok Stadium.

Fulham 1 Middlesbrough 0
MAY 7: Barclays Premiership at Craven Cottage.

Middlesbrough 0 Sevilla 4
MAY 10: UEFA Cup final at the Philips Stadion.

Can I also point out that had they won their FA Cup Semi-Final against West Ham, then they would have played in the FA Cup Final on May 13th

Can you remember Middlesborough's Chairman claiming that the Premiership would be viewed as the laughing stock of European Football??? I think not!

re ftsimpson

Just sent a quick enquiry to the SFA via their website as follow(follows)

SFA CEO Gordon Smith.. "It is difficult for the SFA to arrange fixtures especially when they have members who also have agendas." 6/5/08

I would like Mr Smith to expand upon the above statement, in particular detailing the following-
1) Which Members of the SFA is he specifically alluding to?
2) What agendas does he perceive these particular Members to have?

I look forward to receiving his reply in due course.

Yours etc.

There are most definitely agendas at work within the SFA, but these appear to start from the very top down.
Will he reply and when?? Answers on a postcard- I would hold my breath but blue is a colour to which I am ill-suited.

Been following the stuff today.

I think that we need to get real.

Lex Gold and Iain Blair played a blinder - they stood up to the Mint and his media machine and slapped them down.

Duffield and Peat are a disgrace and need to go, but what annoys me is the moan for moaning sake Celtic Supporters who are never happy with the result they still cannot give Mr Gold and Mr Blair any credit.

It's like walking out of the ground after a 4-0 win and hearing fans complaining about the far side linesman or our left back.

Today is the first time in my life that the administrators have stood up to and gave the rangers the finger.

Great job guys - now we MUST win our next 2 to carry out our part of the deal. The part that we as fans can play is to get solidly behind the team on Sunday and turn CP from a wake to awake.

Mr Blair - anytime you are home in Gourock the beer is on me - you know who I am :-)

Been told that Duffield was on Talksport

He said he offered to move the cup final but the SPL didn't want the date and he thought that all the last round of games didn't have to be on the same day. Was trying to justify that it wouldn't really be an advantage for a team to know what they had to do to win the title .

Laporta are you reading this. Go for him my son!!

Hi Paul67

Great site! Long time lurker first time poster. This has been great fun today listening to the huns on the radio. You can just imagine their big red raging coupons going purple, brilliant!

ftsimpson. Looking for some help mate. I'm in Bangkok on Sunday do you know anywhere the game will be showing? I tried celticbars.com last year but had no joy.

Roccobhoy. I used to work with a good tim that was pals was Traynor. He ensured me that he was 100% Airdrie (spit) and didn't care about Celtic or the huns, but was certainly not a baddy. Think he just likes to wind folk up.

Peat and Smith appear to have spoken and acted in a way that are prejudicial to the interests of their members.

The same could also be said of Fraser Wishart. He spoke in favour of an extension before the original SPL dual-decision was made. In doing so,he failed to take account of his union members' interests.

What other union leader would undermine the conditions of service for his members in such a cavalier way? Now that members are seeking compensation, he has referred it for legal opinion but maybe he should have been doing that before lending his name to a R******* campaign.

My understanding is that the SPL is made up of the 12 clubs who all own 1 share in the company. It is managed by a board of directors who are elected by the 12 clubs to manage their business.

The SFA are made up of the same 12 clubs, but also include the clubs of the SFL, junior and amateur status.

My point is this - we all know that Scotland is a small country with too many clubs, many of whom are run as no more than social clubs in their local communities, no disrepect intended as they are very small towns. The SPL broke away from the SFA as there was deemed to be a better level of business owner at the top end with guys like Milne (Aberdeen), Thompson (Dundee Utd) and Lawwell who are all experienced business people with a better level of running an operation (they call it administration at the SFA?? Running an operation usually involves the same disciplines the world over, managing resources, processes, finances etc..)

If these 12 clubs are better and more professionally run than the SFA, and as a guage I would ask if any of these professional business men (or owners of the clubs)would hire peat or duffield to run their clubs, why would they change their mind should the SFA have a vote on an SPL issue? Assuming that as members of the SFA they would be asked to vote. Suggests to me that there was absolutely no prior dialogue in advance of the breaking story in todays Record.

On that basis alone, both peat and duffield have made their positions untenable. If both are custodians of the SFA, how can the members of the SPL have confidence in them to undertake their duties when clearly there has been an attempt to undermine a decision that they have taken. If it were my business, I would not want people representing me who have demonstrated such poor judgement.

Incidentally, for the custodians of the Scottish Game at the SFA....when Rangers were most recently asked to produce players for the newly appointed Scotland managers first game, with the exception of Boyd (who needed a game), all of the Rangers players withdrew to a man giving them a free week whilst Celtic players fulfilled their duties in advance of an important game at Ibrox on the Saturday. Surpisingly all were fit for that game. Walter Smith left the SFA at a drop of a hat, mid way through a qualifing campaign, to take up the position at Rangers. I believe that the compensation agreed is still to be paid. I am also old enough (just) to remember how Rangers scuppered the renovation of Hampden.

None of this recent nonsense is for the good of Scottish Football - purely for the good of the establishment team. As ever, they deploy their toadying lickspittles at the SFA and in the media. The wonderfull thing is - it hasn't worked!!

Hail Hail!!

ItaliaBhoy- I heard a bit of Real Radio and they wheeled out Jim Templeman (or is it -ton) and Steven Smith (or is it Stephen) of the Rangers Supporters Assembly/Trust or whatever they call themselves.
That's an indication of how balanced Real Radio were on this debate.

Ewen Cameron is a sad apologist, lost the number of times he said "for the good of Scottish football"- a dead giveaway. A caller nailed him right at the end advising that Boro played on the Sunday before the UEFA Cup final.
Ah, er, shuffle, squirm

roccoboy- that list looks fairly accurate.

Uber Hun of sports journalists has to be David Leggatt.
Can anyone come up with a more odious, cretinous example?

Resignations must be sought!!

Resignations must be sought!!

Welcome and Thanks

You could say what you like about David Taylor and John McBeth but the two of them would have told Rangers and Smith were to go

I`want to wish my big son, Paul67,
a very happy and contented birthday.

STAND UP FOR THE BIRTHDAY BHOY,

Dad.

What I don't understand about this whole sorry farce is why not -one in the media has asked Smith to justify his total contradiction of this statement shortly afterwards? Haven't seen it addressed anywhere.

Thursday, 3 April 2008 BBC SPORT FOOTBALL

"Walter Smith insists Rangers will not ask the SPL to extend the season, even if they reach the Uefa Cup final.

"If, and it is a big if, we were to progress in all the tournaments then it becomes practically impossible for us to play the games," said the manager.

"But can I just clarify no-one from Rangers has ever asked the SPL to extend the season and we will not ask them to extend the season."

Thought even the media couldn't resist the controversy this would generate even if the majority are in their pocket, thought the bottom line was to sell copy and generate money for them and their share holders?

Goldstar 10

Thanks much appreciated

P.S. Does anyone believe John Collins assertion that Keith Wacko Jacko Jackson is on the payroll of T.F.O.D. I personally believe it is highly likely given that the Daily Ranger get the exclusives relating to the huns.

Excellent post, says it all, I have copied it, I hope you don't mind, just to back up my arguments with a few friends of mine who are a mix of green and yellow. :)

Kojo.
yer pal...who likes ye.

If i was PL i would get Gordon and the team in for a meeting and say them. We have managed to do our part, you now and do yours and win those two games. They are on the verge of collapse if you win those two games.

What more incentive to the players need. Come Sunday i hope they are like greyhounds and out of the traps fast and rattle in a few goals to show a statement of our intent.

A wee suggestion for anybody that like making banners for games. Why don't you you make one asking for Smith and Peat to resign. Memebr clubs have a vote of no confidence in you.

Oh aye Happy Birthday Mr 67.

BillyStarksShorts..

You will probably struggle to see the game.. the satelite provider here usually only shows an spl game if its the early saturday game on setanta..

there are exceptions, but they are eratic, ie - they showed the midweek hun game recently at 2 am, but didnt show the celtic - huns game on the sunday.

Usually I watch the games illegally on a p2p site..

Hail Hail

FTS.

John Collins was right. He had the measure of Jackson alright!!

I have a question for you all.

Why are the huns singing about a famine being over ?

Surely 10 points from the last 12 means that the famine is ongoing and long may it continue.....

Seville.67

Dunno if posted earlier. The ref for that 'controversial' game on Saturday, Huns v Dundee United? Yes, him.

Rangers v Motherwell - Charlie Richmond

Saturday, 10th May

Rangers v Dundee United - Michael McCurry

Sunday 11th May

Celtic v Hibernian - Douglas McDonald

FREE THE MADRID 1!!

EMANUELSON OF AJAX FOR LEFT BACK!!

roccobhoy,

The story I heard about Jackson was that in 1989 he was doing work experience on the recently-launched Scottish Sun. He had a girlfriend working at Ibrox, who called him to say she had just seen Mo J******* walking in the door.

At the time, MoJ* was widely believed to have signed for us. Jackson told his bosses, they did a bit of digging, and The Record and the rest were completely scooped. Jackson was on his way in the murky world of hackdom, where he has singularly failed to write an interesting sentence ever since.

Whether he is in the pay of Tfod or not- I'd doubt it. But he is as close to them as it is professionally possible to be without wearing a garish stripey tie and cheap blazer.

serutiku

A great point and im sure if the shoe was on the green and white foot they would refer to this interview.

The whole thing is down to pressure and Rangers are admitting that they are struggling.

Confidence has gone and the legs are weakening.

On another note

Carlos 'ugly betty' cellular is out of the trip to St Mirren and I think thats when they will drop points. The 'mouth' is suspended.

If wishart is refering members of his union who have lost money due to being unable to go on previously paid holidays...with whom does the legal obligation lie?

Surely he can't have publicly backed the extension and then start a process for claimed losses? Every time I hear him introduced it is as the Chairman of the players union, so his public comments on these issues should be regarded as the comments of his union? Would it not be his job to alleviate such action of his members? WOuld any other union chief be allowed to continue in position for behaving in such a duplicitous manner?

does this then set a precedent if any home supporters of the teams on the last day can't attend due going on holidays? eg can they claim back 1/18th (assuming 18 home games per season) of their season ticket costs? if so, again who has legal responsibility?

peat, duffield and wishart - the new axis of evil!!

sack em all

Token Tim - looks like we do have 2 McGarry's in the meeja. Just saw a pic of Ian McGarry from the sun, and unless he's changed a lot in the past couple of years, its not the McGarry I know..

(If you lurk at all JMcG, tell C her tic fan uni buddy says hi - she's obviously changed her email without tellin!)

Happy birthday Paul! Hard to believe its been a year since your do and also hard to believe you have a mrs that lets you spend all this time keeping us updated when you have other commitments!

Is there any truth in the rumour that, in the event of a nuclear war, all that will be left are cockroaches, Keith Richards and Rangers tryng to win a game in 90 minutes?

BillyStarksShorts..

Forgot to say..

In the unlikely event that the game is on tv here, go to Gullivers on Suhkimvit soi 3 (maybe soi 5, I always get confused!) and they will defo show it.. if it's on...

Thanks for that

I agree he has alot of friends at Ibrox. He is a poor journalist who clearly is incapable of objectivity.

We should start a campaign asking for both Peat and Smith to be strung up by their members.

Big hand to yourself Paul-

spot on with the two stooges in this whole tawdry affair.

Considering that the Scottish cup does not even have a sponsor for next season the chief executives actions and comments on the recent fixture congestion that Glasgow Rangers face demonstrates admirably that he is out of his depth within his current position. He is failing at every single level and emphasises that the SFA and its dealings has been compromised by his inability to prioritise the SFA´s agenda due to his real passion of Rangers and there welfare within the Scottish and European game.

It would be appropriate at this juncture to mention that their premium competition is an attractive end of season showpiece game. No disrespect to Gretna and to Queen of the South but I think they have demonstrated admirably recently the integrity of the competition and their subsequent entry into Europe as losing finalists is possibly something that should be solved by now. The fairy tale can end in Hampden in the sun. If they win then let them enter Europe. They will have proven that they deserve to be in the competition and more importantly, will have demonstrated that they might have a chance of improving the coefficient. Yet these rulings are negelected and no new initiatives are presented.

What this produces is a cooker pressure end of season because the single UC place we have due to an ever decreasing coefficient is fought over by four teams already packed into a split league. A very poor time of the year to expect camaraderie and understanding from opponents. Its also self defeating in that it makes the league harder at a time in the year when players are feeling fatigued. We then witness less skill and more tired didplays coupled with more emphasis on tactics and fitness. It is the chief executives of the SFA job to avoid these scenarios and improve our game from the grass roots up. Yet due to this scenario developing due to the many issues that the association has failed to address within the Scottish game, we see the public site ouf our chief executive attempting to affect the fixture agenda of the SPL for Rangers by moving the date of the cup final. The SFA showpiece tournament that does not have a sponsor and is producing 1st division runners up for a place in the European UC at the expense literally of an SPL top 6 team that is fighting for one place in the SPL and could help add to the Scottish coefficient while improving standards all around our game. The European money didn´t come in handy for Gretna now did it?

Yet nothing is done we have a botched video used in retropsect initiative. It had a bad start, was resurrected amongst much fanfare. Unexplicably shelved for 6 months after UEFA permission
was granted. I cant help to come back to the conclusion that this should be way down low on his list of priorites. It does look good. It´s a paid pundits dream I would assert.

The lack of communication between the SFA and SPL is also something that I feel the SFA should notseek to publicise. Why publicise your own miserable failings I ask ? It has been obvious recently that no consultation or consideration is made when both bodies draw up their fixture lists. Twice recently important Scotland games have taken place just before or after Glagsow Derby games, regarded as the most important and influential fixtures on the annual calendar. Can we really expect an association that does not consult with one of its main bodies over domestic fixtures ? additionally to actually solve a fixture congestion problem excacerbated in a season by the association itself ? along with one of its members organises an easier schedule prior to playing an important game giving it an unfair advantage over their European opponents ?

Is this really the acceptable image that we want to project to the rest of the world? Its not sportsmanship its oneupmanship. This sort of oneupmanship isn´t clever. It shows that we are a small lsland with a small minded mentality. This is not the kind of philosophy as a nation we should be following or presented as.Its a bad inage. As Chief Executive of th
