Job becomes clear for Celtic
A single goal victory by Celtic on Thursday requires
Rangers to win by five goals at Pittodrie to take the title.
Both Aberdeen and Dundee United have avoided defeat at home for over three
months. Celtic won 1-5 at Pittodrie on
10 February, since when Aberdeen have played eight home games, seven in the
league and Bayern Munich in the Uefa Cup, without defeat.
Dundee United lost at home to St Mirren in the Scottish Cup on 13 February and
have since played five home games, all in the league without defeat.
Thursday is going to be an enormously difficult challenge for Celtic and
Rangers. United have only lost one home league
game since losing to Celtic on 26 December 2007; Aberdeen have lost only two league
games since losing to Motherwell on 15 September 2007.
Celtic are worthy favourites for the title, but
it will take concentration, patience and most of all, courage if they are to
emerge champions on Thursday night.

3 in a row
Not 1st
THREE
Enough of all this talk of lying down. Stand up for the Champions!
I'll be listening from NC. C'mon the Hoops!
so did they ay down
THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER
Could've been worse.
I would urge veryone to contact Setanta and advise that unless Booth is removed you will not renew your subscription.
Paul,
You had better find a way of adding some extra bandwidth for Thursday night! It is going to be crazy on here.
I always expected them to win tonight, and by a few. Having watched the game a decent side would have scored at least 6 tonight.
Won't it be ironic if we win the title because we have a better defensive record tham the mest defensive side in living memory?
We are going into the final game ahead. We have the players, management and coaches to finish the job. Flair, courage and heart will see is through to the title.
I thought rangers would take 5 off them tonight, all in all not a bad night for us........all we need to do it win our game against Utd, even tango & sash will find it hard to hand rangers 5 or 6 goals up there.
Pete
NC = North Carolina?
celtic have only failed to score 2 or more goals once in the last ten games at tannadice. celtic have won 16 of the last 20 at tannadice.
rangers have only won 10 of their last 20 at pittodrie they have only won by over 3 goals once in 20 games.
Michele Cocozza, I know! My datacentre and me have been having words since Wednesday night.
Gordon J, Thursday night is a bandwidth concern.
Paul67,
Celtic are favourites to win the league and i'm pretty confident we will, however you can forget all the statistics you have mentioned on Thursday night, all form books are out the window come d-day.
These are the two New Firm teams - remember?
They owe us nothing. If I were a betting man I'd have a look at a double - two draws.
Indeed Paul it will be a difficult night for us, but, we have it in our own hands and that's all anyone could possibly ask for at this time, especially after how things looked after the home game against Motherwell!
Thursday night will require a strong performance from Celtic with the opportunity for the players to show WHY they deserve the title of champions!!
I can't think that they'll need motivated for this one!
Paul67, you need a pile of blade servers a SAN and some switches, call me ! (with a P.O.)

we are in control of our own
the rotten mob need miracles and BTW when is the last tim ethey scored 5 goals
this of course is dicounting the fact that a rampant Celtic side with the bhoys in full flow ....led by Barry Robson ( big pal of all DU players )are well capable of scoring more than one goal
the huns scored 3 the last time they were at tannadice ...however their water tight/titanium defence let in 3 ....we will not concede 3 but we might just score 3

Ulster-Celt at 9.50..previous thread,
Heard Clark enthusiastically berate Celtic.Predictably the usual 'dodgy' decisions were mentioned, until he was upbraided by R Gordon who at least balanced Clark's partisan view by mentioning decisions against Dundee Utd.
Makes you wonder what the pre match team talk at Pittodrie will be all about.
I noticed Levein was stating that they need the points to finish fourth as it will make a difference to the money they receive. I think we will have a tough game at Tannadice and it definitely isn't a formality as some on here seem to suspect. Hopefully Wilkie will be rested as a booking will mean he misses the first 3 league games of the season for them.
If we go at them from the start and get an early goal it will settle the nerves but due to the two Jimmy's previous I suspect to see a strange Sheep starting 11. If the Huns score early then they could well hammer them but I'd rather be in our position any day of the week.
Thursday seems ages away but hopefully it will be 3rd time lucky for the Bhoys.
Mon the Hoops! Do it for Tommy.
Both teams will know how tough it is going to be.
How many could honestly see us going into the final match with a win all but securing the title....I'm honest to say i really thought it was over when M'Well beat us at Parkhead.
I believe we will win and win in style.
Hail Hail
We win on Thursday we win the league its as simple as that.

any of you remember my post a few weeks ago when i told you that one of my dogs had died and i reached a pact with my daughter that a new dog would be bought if we won the league
well,
she has picked out the breed and a name
she says she knows ...and it`s all over
it will be the best money i spend if she is right
In case you missed my post earler ... I predicted Rangers would score 3 tonight.
Forget about all the stats on how many games DU and Aberdeen have won, lost or drawn at home recently. It doesn't matter. If we win we will win the league - If you are so inclined (Kojo?) bet everything you've got on us celebrating 3IAR.
My only concern for Thursday night is the hoardes of scum who will be trying to re-live Manchester on their way home from Aberdeen. Quite how those responsible for organising fixtures could have both Celtic and Rangers up North on league decider day beggars belief. Travel safely if you are going. Enjoy the occasion and do our club proud.
Back on-line with match updates Thursday !
God Bless Tommy Burns
Just off to look out my finest pair of brown trousers for Thursday night! Not looking forward to it at all though I am pretty confident about the task we face, even more so after their result tonight. 2003 and 2005 have left a mark when it comes to last-day deciders though!
I live in Paisley and i hear sirens!! Make ur own minds up!
Any draw for both of us and it's ours, but a win for us and only the Jimmy Factor can stop us. We MUST win. To do so we have to outplay Dougal. Take him out of the equation. Strachan/ Lennon football should do it.
Over the piece, I have to say that I think St. Mirren were just a very poor team.
Amazing parallel to the finish in the EPL.
Last day with two teams level on points.

Aberdeen could finish 4th if results go their way.
Will the two Jimmys( and S Clark) be using that as a battle cry?
I don't think I could take the tension of both games finishing a draw. Could you imagine our game finishing a minute or more before theirs and what might happen in the remaining time at Pittodrie?

the only difference being that chelsea had to win 17 nil

Such a hun, you know he's ragin that his game was not made easier by st mirren tonight.
I know that everyone is saying 1 0 and they gotta score 5. I think we'll score more than that to be honest. We are the best team in this league and don't anyone forget it!!!

I am delighted to be in this position - I'm looking forward positively to Thursday.
However Paul - I must comment on your post around Murray putting money before a title.
I dislike Murray as much as the next man - however I feel you are being hypocritical on this matter.
Celtic put not just money but PROFIT ahead of the league title at the start of this season. They have done so on more that one occassion (Black Sunday being a prime example).
Think its a bit rich to say this..........
Paul, and all
Do you think, as a sign of respect for Tommy, and a gesture of inclusiveness for those in blue who wish to mourn with us, we could forego the use of the H word that ends in uns tomorrow?
having been at both Killie and Well on the fateful days i am not going to Dundee ....
that should be enough to seal it
Paul67,
Any news on an injury, real or imagined, to Zander Diamond?
I was playing football tonight and one of them in the other side was adamant that Diamond is out with an injury.
I told him he was talking through his sphincter but now I'm on here has anyone heard any news on this?
Three sleeps to go Bhoys and Ghirls!
Tonight could indeed have been worse. The difference between that result and a narrow 1-0 victory, is them having to win by five goals rather than seven! This of course assumes we only beat DU by one.
I know we're not the Lions, however lets take comfort from a quote from the Big Man. "If our team plays as they're capable of playing, they'll win...against any side".
Sleep easy folks.
May eternal light shine upon you Tommy Burns.
difficult to judge that game tonight. the boy's dorman and o'donnell are either two of the worst "top flight" players i have seen in my life, or they were going out of their way to pass the ball to one of their players or hit it straight out of play and gift possesion to themat every opportunity.
thursday will not only be the first time the current Celtic team have been under real pressure in the spl, it will also be the first time they have had serious motivation to win, and win convincingly.
i am totally convinced the real Celtic will stand up.
however, al la porridgeandbananas, i will make sure i am wearing brown trousers. the two jimmies have previous in this situation.

Paul,
I posted earlier that I had seen a post on followfollow (I know, I shouldn't!) which stated that the huns received nothing for Hutton and that the 'transfer fee' was used to write-off some of murray's debt to ENIC. Hence his desire to push the transfer through. Had you heard of this before?
Also, I believe the 3rd man in the documentary is GL2. What's my prize!!!

Paul: Last Wednesday the server went into meltdown when Zenit scored the first. As stated earlier, it'll be the same on Thursday. I'm sure if you talk nicely to your provider then some added bandwidth and capacity could be provided.
We've had the right attitude going into games since the Motherwell game at home. We need that again in spades. Our last away game was close, but the requirements are clear. Win by 2 clear goals and they need 6 (I presume if they clear the goal difference then Rangers win on more goals scored?). For Aberdeen to lose 6 at home would be a scandal.
But we need to win. Time for Lennie to give the guys some focus, and for us to play our best midfield and swamp Dundee Utd. And an early goal for us would do no harm.
Come on guys. One more push for 3 in a row.

all well with you ?
I'd just like to say... before the fun starts... that my mind sometimes drifts back to the awful recriminations against Gordon Strachan after both the Motherwell and Aberdeen defeats.
There were many - far too many IMO - who were calling for Strachan's head. Some called for restraint, but were drowned out.
And where is this wee man now? On the precipice of history, poised to become the first Celtic manager since Jock Stein to win 3 titles in a row. That's worth reading again. In fact, in worth writing again; the first Celtic manager to win 3 titles in a row since Jock Stein.
If we ultimately fail on Thursday, let's not loose site of how close he came.

Last home defeat, 3 – 1, was against Rangers on March first.
Unfortunately they have not played a game since May 10th when they lost 2-1 at Fir Park.
Will they be a wee bit on the stale side or
Will they have fresh legs?

I remember the Killie game with you very well PF , too well in fact. I hope Mr. lennon tells the team how bad they will feel if they fail to win this game. I've been thinking that his return has had a major inpact behind the scenes, LEAD THE BATTLECRY LENNY!!
On Setanta Sports tonight Jimmy Calderwood used the "we" word instead of "Rangers" before correcting himself.
When asked if Rangers are left hoping for a slip-up against Dundee Utd, it was Jimmy Calderwood who provided the slip-up.
I quote, "As I say, I think Walters' just saying that WE huhhm (brief pause) before today THEY have got to win the 2 games...blahh blahh blahh"
The benefits of SKY+
Don't think for a moment he won't try another Hunfermline on us.
Well, although I would have taken a St.Mirren win tonight (and why not?), it is nonetheless so good to be going into the last game of the season needing a win to win the league. Although I didn’t concede the league I thought we had just about thrown it away after we lost to Motherwell.
To come back after that result and beat the Fod twice, which was no mean feat, and win thereafter to take us to the fnishing line by more than a head is the stuff that champions are indeed made of. We are a resilient team when we get it going.
Thurdays game will be a nervous occasion like before a CL game, without the glamour.
It is though more important, and I do hope we hold our nerve. I think the pressure is probably more on us than them; they are out of it unless we slip up. But, they would obviously like to be in our position. Not to be ruled out is the potential gubbing awaiting the Fod up in Aberdeen, a very realistic prospect. Indeed both of us could lose, and (like it of not) we have our 3 in a row. I hope by now the mibs are finished with influencing the outcome of games or goals scored. We need to keep 100% focused just in case a goal gets chopped off or no penalty given etc. So Celtic, just a win to end this intriguing season and start celebrating 3 going on 4 in a row.
I can't see Rangers beating Aberdeen by more than two goals, never mind five.
The Two Jimmies have form, but the Aberdeen fans and players won't stand for it. I read Lee Miller on Sunday saying they owed Rangers one for their attempts to stop them qualifying for Europe last season. Also, Dunfermline losing six to Rangers in 2003 was unusual, but not out of the question. It just can't happen on Thursday, unless there is foul play...
Am I right in saying that Sone Aluko has been sent back to his club because in Agent Orange's words, Aberdeen have "nothing left to play for?"
Let's just win by three or four Celtic!

Someone asked in the pub what happens if its all square on points and GD come the FT in both games. I read it here a week or so ago, but have fogotten. Does it go on head to head results between Celtic and Rangers, or is it based on Goals scored to divide the teams?
Chris Sutton, don't think Zander is injured, wishful thinking from the hun i'd guess.
Aye mate, all well here. I thought I would use this appropriatly feverish time to end my self imposed posting ban (imposed for no good reason other than my laziness).

is it not time for a subtle comment in the press that it would be ridiculous to suggest that a professional club with a proud history ( aberdeen) would do anything other than try their utmost in a game which may have a significant bearing on the SPL title
we need to let the jimmy huns know that they cannae get away with it twice
anyway the huns can win 6-1
we`ll just win 4-0
this time it will be enough
Arguably, the worst case of collusion on final day was 2005.Not to deny us, but for self preservation(of Hibs Uefa position). And that was with an ex Celt managing Hibs.
But it only resulted in our utter despair because we failed to deliver. We weren't good enough.
This Year we are good enough to win in Dundee. Let's just win it and nothing else matters.
These are the matches players must savour....victory and glory.
Paul67,
Did you see Calderwoods face tongiht? It was tripping him at the end of the game. I never watched the game after two i decided to disappear out then came back in and occupied myself doing work. I don't trust the man. However, Aberdeen are a club that dislike Rangers just as much as us. Their fans would not tolerate Rangers clinching the title on their patch. They will be baying for blodd if Calderwood even contemplates it. He has lot to do to make up after the Quen of the South result. Plus if they win they get an extra 100k as they move up one place. That could secure him another player for next season. Deep down i think he was hoping for St Mirren to lose maybe by 5 tonight so Rangers never had that much to do on Sunday. He knows deep down if Aberdeen lose five on Thursday then eyebrows would be well and truly raised. This time he will be crucified unlike last time.
I still don't trust him.
It's their for Celtic. I did not think i would hear myself say this but what an incentive for that team. GS and Lennny should not need to do that much talking. It's for them to win and become winners, it's their for them to make a celebration and a tribute to a great celt and it's also their for them to make their repay the faith shown by them by the manager and allow Gordon to have his day with his good friend watching from above.
Stephen and fellow team members. Let's go out and do it for Tommy and Gordon!! Ley's put on a five star show the Celtic Way and bang in a few goals.

Having not let in a goal against United all season and having scored 5 and Utd not having won a game since March 22nd, I have to say, I am quite confident.
harry's hoody,
In the Motherwell match after the eedjits started the Strachan cry they were quickly drowned out by the rest of the fans still in the stadium singing 'We are Celtic supporters..'
One of my worst days in recent memory at Paradise. My neighbour's brother, guy that sits next to me, took a swing at a guy coming down the steps who was still trying to sing it at full time.
chico5,
I was hoping that was the case. Cheers.
celtic have scored 3 or more goals v united 7(seven) times in the last ten at tannadice.
"Paranoid is total awawreness smashes the paranoia myth"
Your right, it's in our own hands!!! GO WIN THE GAME CELTIC!!!
Tommy will make sure the League stays where it belongs.
Every player who has the privilege to pull on that jersey on Thursday night, will have the words of the Great Mhan ringing in his ears.
They will have been told about the importance of this club to us all. They will know how lucky they are to be fulfilling all our dreams.
They will have seen how important Tommy was to our manager, it's players, our club and to us, the supporters.
Those of us who have known Tommy for as long as we did, know how he lived and breathed Celtic the way we do. We all know what the club meant to him and what he meant to the club.
I can think of no other ex-manager in British football history who has returned to a club he once managed, as a member of the backroom staff. He did !
Our present manager realised very quickly what Tommy meant to the club and what the club meant to Tommy and promoted him to his rightful place.
Our club has had and will continue to have, Men such as he. To all who are going tomorrow, please pass on my heartfelt thanks to a Celtic Legend.

Im not to sure the Aberdeen fans would forgive the two jimmys should there be a scoreline that looks iffy. I expect the hun to win but by no more than 3. It is up to us to win convincinly at Utd, which we are more than capable of doing, 2-0 should do it in my books.
Chris Sutton... I was referring to posts on here, not the scenes at CP. Have a look back at the archives.
But they know who they are.
aberdeen have won 3 drawn 1 and lost 1 of their last 5 at home to the huns
The last time Celtic went to Tannadice it was a must win game and the first away clean sheet for a while. We know the team will give their all. Very exciting!
MikeyBhoy,
Here's the current situation:
Celts F 83 A 26 - GD 57
Them F 84 A 31 - GD 53
It's points, then goal difference, then goals scored, then a play off!
Although to get to a play off we would need to concede at least 5 and also score 1 more than them!
oisin71,
He also referred to novo as 'the wee man' when saying he should have hit the target, followed by 'Krissy' would've have been on it at the back post was in front of him, as 'big boydy' doesn't miss from there! Incredible.
Don't know if you remember but when they drew 1-1 at pitoddrie earlier in the season he was exactly the same with his boydy patter and naismith was the wee man that day, he's a cheat simple as that, i am just relieved we don't need any favours off him and can finish things ourselves.
If all goes according to plan this thursday will be payback for 2003, losing in the seville wasn't as bad as rugby park in my eyes as seville was still an achievement, losing the league was heartbreak, i will never forget they killie fans that day and the huns will never forget the pounding the aberdeen fans will give them on thursday as it'll be multiplied by 10, they HATE them. I worked with an aberdeen fan who told me he wasn't too bothered when we beat them 5-1 as long as it helped stop the huns win the league, i couldn't believe what i was hearing.
another naka tannadice hat-trick would be just champion.
It's written in the stars, Barry Robson scoring the last goal in the goal at the Celtic end just like another red-head done all those years ago.
I watched 'The Birthday Bhoys' today on the Centenary season, including contributions from Paul, terry O'Neill and GL2. That season it seemed to be written that things would transpire as they did and I feel that after the sad event of last week this seasons finale is also written to be.
Anyone got a spare for Thursday night (you've got to ask!)?
Scotsport now on STV. Tribute to TB.
Noel Hunt (17 in 39 games)and David Robertson (7 in 20 games)seem to be the main goal threats for Dundee Utd with De Vries (2 in 12 games) surprisingly low in the goal stakes (although with less appearances than the others. Maybe just scores in the big games. As Levein says he is happy enough with the defence and midfield but has to have more goal scoring variety up front. Was impressed with LB Kalvenes in the League cup final but apparently he has gone back home to Norway, possible weakness on that side? Hope Noel has an off night and if we can get control of midfield we may get one more special goal from Mcdonald to tie the league up. I believe this may be as hard, if not harder than our recent games with rankers. Shouldn't be any refereeing problems with Levein in attendance. Barry Robson could also be our 10 million pound signing with his knowledge of Dundee Utd players, I'm sure Gordon has had a long talk with him on the subject.(3-1 Celtic)
I remember a story that the rangers annual appears in the humour section of aberdeen waterstones (or equivalent)
harry's hoody,
My unreserved apology.
Got the wrong end of the stick.
forget the form of Aberdeen and Dundee Utd
forget the nerves and tension from the fans projectng to the players.
Gordon Strachan will ask the players to play freely and express themselves as the great Tommy would like.

That's from the Smith, W. Great Big Book of Motivation.

Oh for an early brace on Thursday so we can relax and play the Celtic way to three in a row - I really do not want to have to hear or see what is going on in the other gane - a wee shot of the Grim Buttoned Cardigan's face at the end will suffice

The two matches are difficult.
Celtic have a good record against United but it goes for nothing on Thursday.
History is against us - 3 in a row eluded both McNeill and O'Neill.
Thursday will be our hardest game of the season coming just 48 hours after tomorrow.
On the other hand Aberdeen have an old score to settle with Smith and Rangers. Thursday would not make up totally for the 1991 league decider at Ibrox but if they help to deny rangers it would I'm sure go some way to settling an old score.
What would we give for a 3 Nil Celtic victory?
But we are CELTIC we don't tend to make life easy.

That's the one. How'd she get that job?
Thanks Paul, wasn't sure how true it was. I wouldn't put it past murray.
Also, am I the only one who thinks Zander Diamond might be dropped on Thursday? Stranger things have happened.
KTF
Celtic are now stronger Favourites 1/4on from 1/3on to Win the League After tonights game...
o1bhoy
FREE THE MADRID 1!!
Paul: Fair enough. If only you were running the site on the VMWare hardware I've got for some of my systems at work you could have access to the additional resources you need for Thursday. But then again you'd be charged the same rates as I am so perhaps it's not worth it.
I'm sure it will be fine. We need the site available to be able to get through Thursday night and retain some degree of sanity.
Would someone going along tomorrow please add a thought from me as Tommy's cortege passes Celtic Park. Unfortuntely I won't be able to get there personally. TB deserves us all to be thinking about him tomorrow, as I am sure we will be.
WGS,
Real have almost completed the signing of Ezequiel Garay. Another CB.
More competition for Metzelder.
But I think Real will want to see how he does at EURO 2008 before they make any decisions on him.
Stuart Dougal worries me more than Calderwood. He's got history with us and our manager, yes we can do it if we remain focused ,resolute and aware which i believe we will be.Go and add to our history in style Celtic, it will be the best epitaph you could give Tommy Burns
Paul67 et al
The comments tonight have reinforced my love for this site, and the real Celtic fans. We can go into the last game knowing that the league is in our hands.
The 'fans' that called for WGS head are slowly making way for the fans that appreciae what he has achieved.
Stand up for Tommy. Stand up for the Champions. Stand up for Gordon.
glassford03, aye, cost is the limit.
VertWolf, indeed, a couple of early goals will do.
harry's hoody 10.29 - you got a link to the archives?
Do any of those archives mention that Gordon Strachan lacked Celtic class, wasn't Celtic minded or didn't fully understand Celtic.
Watched the video of the press conference announcing the death of Tommy Burns
Gordon Strachan was very impressive
His top quote for me when talking about Tommy Burns was about "difference between legendary footballers and legendary men"
I also liked that his ultimate best part of being Celtic Manager was being Tommy's mate.
Glassford. Consider it done.
Celtic 1/4 to win the league
lurgan from previous post, you maybe right, i had it in my mind it was mc pherson......maybe he crossed the ball.. no biggie..the result is all that really mattered.....correct??
stand up..
Psychologically, in situations like this, it is traditionally the team who have come back from the dead to go into the final furlong in front that prevails. These Celtic players wil not lose this title now after clawing their way back with 5 straight wins.
When the final whistle blows on Thursday and the Celtic family is celebrating 3-in-a-row, my thoughts will go back to JVOH's late, late winner against TFOD at Celtic Park as the moment which won us the title.
He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I for one will be raising my first post-match glass of champagne to the big Dutchman.
Back to tonight, how much was Scott Booth encouraging Rangers to score more goals? He must be gutted tonight and I hope he stays on duty just to see his face come Thursday when the Bhoys are crowned champions once again.
Hail Hail.
WGS
This Metzelder thing is wearing thin. Be very clear on this, our central defenders under Gordon Strachan next season will be - guess who?
They're already there.
Chris Sutton,
3rd time lucky for Metzelder and with a bit of luck i get a signed top and cut of the signing on fee:) :) :)
Greenlion2
My dear wife has just spotted you on Celtic TV!
I'll recognise you at the next Proclaimers gig
ElDiego,
One of them will be there. That will down the manager to decide. Next season it will be one from McManus and Caldwell. No if's or no but's that's what will be required. Mick or Caldwell need a good quality experienced defender beside them. Naylor wll be for the off as well.
Can anyone on here remember back what has been the largest advantage in terms of points (and games in hand)that re-arrangers have held.
Would assume this would have been immediately after the Mothers defeat at CP.
Our last six games have been must win - and we have won them. Now for the magnificent seventh!

A possible from Real is Royston Drenthe. They want him to get more first team experience and are considering allowing him to go on loan.
A nice addition at LB for sure for a season. If he does go on loan it would probably be to Getafe though.
caesar1967 - After the Motherwell defeat, Rangers were 6 points ahead with 2 games in hand.

Think back to 10 in a row last minute equaliser for STUBBS in a rearranged game because somebody had died in PARIS.
Big JVOH scores in rearranged new year game.
Also seen on teletext ther Levein in a quandry whether to play LEE WILKIE or not he is due a 3 game ban id cautioned and said previously dropped BARRY ROBSON for similar

So you'll understand why I'm a bit pleased with my 4/1 after the Motherwell defeat. Is that really 16 times the current price? Sums were never my strongest subject, but that's history now. Changing the subject?
Bhoy do I feel a 'hate to say I told you so' moment coming on.

For all the anti Gordon Strachan brigade out there his press conference announcing the death of Tommy Burns also showed what a genuine compassionate and caring person he really is.
Hopefully the true support will give him the respect he deserves on thursday night, when history is made.
God bless Gordon Strachan and Tommy Burns
Excellent point from Edmond Danties.
If Celtic do win this league then they were seconds away from it until Jan popped up. I was just waiting for the Rangers fans to belt out Championais!! You could hear the Rangers fans piping up going sshhhhhh......!!then nothing, silence, nada. It reminded me when you switch the gas cooker on for boiling and egg then when you switch it off total silent!! That's what it was like!!
It was superb.
I will hold my hand up and say I was calling for Gordon Strachan's head after the Motherwell defeat at Celtic Park.
When I'm wrong, I say I am wrong.
I was wrong.
Chris Sutton,
My fantasay signings in the summer would be:
Metzelder
Christan Poulsen(midfield general to go with Brown and Robson)
Emanulseon (Left Back)
Bystrov(competition with Naka, Aiden & Koki on the wings)
Frei
I got a hunch that Jan might be for the off in the summer and Sammy coming in as well.
The dark side were 9 ahead after we got beat by Motherwell and could have made it 12 with a win over Utd. They slipped up and only took it to 10. At that stage of the season, every Celtic fan I spoke to thought the league was over. To be in this position weeks later is unbelievable and every fan exiting the stadium after the Motherwell defeat would have bitten your hand off if you offered them our current position back then. It's all down to us as manager, backroom staff, players and fans. We all have a job to do - LET'S GET TO WORK, CELTIC!
HAIL, HAIL!

Just watching "The Birthday Bhoys" on Celtic TV. A fabulous programme about the centenary season, a must for any fan but especially nice for bhoys like myself who where only young at the time (8) - I wonder are the Terry O'Neil and Paul Brennan who are interviewed our very own CQNers??
Cheers

It takes a bigger man to admit he was wrong
Hail Hail to 3 in a row
Jimmy C will surely be so acutely aware of what happened at Dumfermline that he wouldn't want the slightest hint of any accusation of 'lying down' to be made again.
I think our main concern should be just with getting the ball in the back of the net at Tannadice. We simply need to win that game and forget the rest.
And, if it transpires that we don't succeed, well it was one a heck of a fight back from an almost impossible position.
Cmon the hoops!
I don't know if it has been pointed out before but depending on results on Thursday; Dundee Utd, Hibs or Aberdeen could finish 4th in the SPL.
Now just imagine if der hun were banned from Europe......... at the back of both Utd and Aberdeen's minds they might be playing for something tangible i.e. a UEFA Cup place.
I have heard someone mention today that Artur Boruc was pictured/recorded by the (I think) NOTW newspaper partaking in sectarian/bigoted songs. Any more info on this or is it completely false?
They've scored more than us (so far) but we've still got better goal difference?
Looks like our defence has been the key. Well done Stephen (36 SPL games) and Gary (34 SPL games). Carlos can stay where he is, I'm backing you again next season.
Aw, who gives a fiddler's farthing? Well done everybody. Just one more.
Apparently it was about a year and a half ago, not today or anything!
WGS
I'd be happy with someone like Metzelder in centre back, Taiwo left back and Vukojevic centre mid.
However, i would like us to spend serious money up front, because i think the back 4, midfield and (Holy) Goalie would be very strong with additions in these areas.
Stikers, i'd like ideally 3 from the following, Pavlyuchenko, S.Fletcher, Altidore, McFadden. Cost a lot of money, perhaps too much, but two would do. Pavlyuchenko for Jan would do me fine!
WGS,
Emanuelson would be a great signing but I fear he is outwith our transfer budget. Ajax are out of the CL. He's 21 and already a Dutch int'l. If he is to go then Ajax will want a bidding war for him and they'll most likely get it.
Frei... hmmm.. If he can get back to his best, and he has looked sharp at the tail end of the season in Germany then he could be a good shout.
I've already mentioned Damien Duff on here. Not because I'm a huge fan, and I happen to agree with Kojo's way of thinking regarding transfer targets and Duff doesn't fit that, but I'll mention him again as I heard news of him again today.
My work colleague from Newcastle was working with me today and he told me that Duff has put his house up for sale in the North East. So he will definitely be moving on and not to near neighbours Sunderland. Again, the destination being mentioned in 'the toon' is Celtic for Duff.
Look guys I am new to this sight and have missed many of the previous threads which have ran through all season.
But i feel it is important for all the told you so people to admit that i have not been the biggest fan of gordon. hands up. Its not because he isn't 'celtic minded'and I have never questioned his compassion or his humanity. Just I had certain criticisms of how he handled himself publicly and with his team selections. Just as i am sure many others have. But I have never booed the team at home this season, sang for his sacking and continued to go week in week out in spite of my criticisms. My point being I don't feel that i don't deserve to celebrate this league title (and we will win) any less than anyone else just because my support of the management hasn't been steadfast.
Can't wait for Thursday night.
I'll be out in the Merchant City watching the game.
I believe we have the determination required to achieve the result we need.
There are quite a few on here were wanting MrStrachans head on a plate, and plenty of them had well reasoned arguments and will have again in the future, there is no good in continuing the I told you so gloat, as things will change next year, what is important is that the bulk of us are on his side for the last game of the season and that is a very big plus, just one more game behind the team could win us this title, then I dont give a monkeys what anyone says about him.
hail hail keep upstanding aand vocal in supporting our team.
Dobbo,
Pavlychenko - Yep
McFadden - Maybe but at right price and not as striker.
Fletcher - No.
Altidore - Don't know much about him.
wouldn't go near McFadden at those prices, injured too often. Like Miller good for Scotland, but not sure if he would fit with the rest of the team.
spacebhoy
This happy clapper is wiping his brow big style. When the party starts, we're all in it together.
I am still haunted by the Calderwood and Dougall factors.
Calderwood tonight could not disguise his feelings as he drooled over big Chris and wee Nacho when it came to a Celtic player it was a surname job- McGeady.
He even joked about being with his father in a Govan pub with his Rangers-daft father and being offered bribes to throw the final game.
People say he can get away with five goals in the Aberdeen net but in 2003 he was guilty of conceding the SIX Rangers needed against Dunfermline.
He is a cheat and that makes me very feart.Just as we can expect Dougall to do us absolutely no favours.
To win the League against this axis of evil I believe we will need to win by a three goal margin. A tall order indeed.
But let us pray that we can do it for Tommy.
Collusion doesn't come into it if we do our job properly(2005 still rankles).
One off game, 11(14) heroes and a triumph that we will glory in and pass down in legend as the most righteous in a season of deceit Machiavelli could have scripted.
So much sweeter the victory of honest endeavour over an establishment team given every /any advantage.
Getting a bit ahead of myself here, but the double body blow to the Hun team, management and support of capitulation in the League and Uefa Cup may just be too much.So close, so very near but unattainable...
The rest perhaps should be discussed after our celebratory hangovers clear on Friday/Saturday/Sunday.
To Victory and Glory.
From Billy Dodds on BBC Scotland to Derek Johnstone on Clyde to Scott Booth on Setanta -you could sense tonight a real sense of desperation for Rangers to score more than 3 goals- The hidden but potent pressure on the Scottish media encourages this sort of overt support for Rangers while ex-celtic players seem to be forced into being hyper-critical of Celtic less they be seen to be showing any sign of favouritism- John Hartson being a notable recent exception. Will be intersting to see if he appears again on screen following his honest and very candid appraisal of events during the Rangers-Dundee United game
My mate has a mantra that I'm sure many others have, 'if it was easy following celtic it wouldn't be worth it'. In a weird way it explains why people are concerned with aberdeen conceding 6 goals.
But I do think its all about us on Thursday
Why are we talking about players for next season? We have heroes to hail here, legends to lionise now. Three in a row, like freedom, is in our sweaty greedy grasp.
Keep the focus. It all helps.
I still think it would be noble if we could avoid using the H word tomorrow.
I think we should get Chris Sutton to attend the Aberdeen game. Sitting right behind the Aberdeen dugout would be nice. That ought to scare the bajeebees out of the Orange Man.
Seriously though, it is in our hands. Win the game ad we will be deserved Champions. What a fantastic position to be in.
Well done WGS and Celtic. Sorry I doubted him / them.
Lubo.
Would I be right to suggest that Paul67's politics have lurched to the right since he turned up at Hampden on that great day in 1988 to give Thatcher some stick and show her the red card?
Enoyed his contribution on The Birthday Bhoys opnce I knew he was Paul Brennan what about Joe Clarke and Terry O'Neill- ar they CQNers?
naesnakesinOK,
If I have to focus solely on the game from now until Thursday then my brain will go into meltdown and I'll end up in Carstairs.
Can I not have a little think about other things just for tonight? Then my thoughts can be with Tommy tomorrow and then by Wednesday I'll be all systems go for Thursday! ;)
NaesnakesinOK : Well said, exactly what I was thinking.
Forget collusion theories, we have to win a football match on Thursday and if we do that then we will be champions. Rangers will not score the goals to beat us. We will win, win, win,.
I agree nae. I think thursday provides an opportunity for our players to stand up and be counted and fight for that league and for their place in the team.
There has been a real upturn in Gordon Strachan's popularity over the last few weeks (which I'm happy about). Should we lose on Thursday, will the knives come out again?
Patnevinspen,
No.
Lubo.
patnevinspen,
I'd like to think not but unfortunately human nature isn't like that and there are bound to be some that would quickly jump back on the sack Strachan bandwagon.
It's quietened down recently because of our late surge but before that you could hear people talking about it in the pub before the game, on the train to Duke Street etc etc..
It's inevitable that it'll start to an extent again if the unthinkable happens on Thursday night. Hopefully, we won't ever have a chance to find out for sure.
My dear, friend, Kevtic....
May I point this out...
First off, before I commence any pointing...
Have you, my friend... ever indulged in the very precarious...to the financial aspect of one's health...the game... of Craps?
If you have... then I should not need to go any farther( Noo, this time...it MUST be "further"?....ed)( No dice,pal....before it wid be further it wid need tae be a whole lot farther!)
However,in the event that you have never had the dubious pleasure....then Read on McDuff( Who said that..wiz it Banquo's Ghost..?)( I have no idea if it was,but the First Printing of that play, was dictated to the Printer by a Chinese Gentleman..and the phrase ever since was in error)
In the game of Craps.... AFTER THE FIRST ROLL Out.... the TOTAL NUMBER OF THE TWO DICE, That are rolled ,becomes the Player's Point..except, of course, if the Come out roll TOTALS a 7 or an 11... in either case the player then will automatically win his bet. On the other Hand....if the the Numbers 1 and 2( that's callied 'CRAPS') or the Numbers 1 an 1( The well known 'Snake Eyes") or the Numbers 6 and 6( "Box-cars") are rolled on the Come out Roll.... then the player automatically loses his bet.
After dispensing this info...now, I believe I can proceed to make my point...definitely, NO PUN INTENDED.
According, to Nutsy...and by the way...as Sir Paul can verify... Nutsy, because of the facts, that Sir Paul had provided.... Nutsy, predicted that Motherwell would probably Defeat the G.A. in their last meeting.
To everyone's amazement as all of the historical facts were pointing in for a Win for the G.A.
Motherwell...although, they failed to deliver on Nutsty's odd ball... against the house... Prediction.... they ,nevertheless... Tied the Game....which, as far as I was concerned, was a Win for Us.
Do not despair, pal ... I shall weave all of this hodge podge, together, at the end....
If you are still following me ...Blink your right eye.
Good......
Moving on...
The facts that you have just provided concerning the Historical Statistics of failures by previous Celtic Managers...McNeill and O'Neill ... of being unable to square the circle so to speak...in the WINNING OF THREE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN A ROW... gives force to the postulation that the odds are in FAVOUR of a Third Celtic Manager,as having NO , better luck.
That being said...
Back to the Crap Game Example.....
We left our imaginary player,as having made the Number 10 as his Point that he must make in order to win his bet... he shall now proceed to continue to throw, until his point is made... either by throwing 5 and 5 , 6 and 4 .. a tough point to make, but that is beside...well ....the point!
Here it comes....
HOWEVVVVVVVVVVVVAH!
Should he throw 5 and 2 or a 6 and 1 or 4 and 3 then, he is eliminated and he ....along with most of the other players at the table... have mutually lost their bets... and his roll is over.
Now a well experience Crap Player... which one rapidly becomes... learning the hard way...is always, Lightning Fast!
This adjunct to the game is vividly realised........
"The Longer that one Rolls.... WITHOUT A SEVEN SHOWING UP...
THE GREATER BECOMES THE ODDS..... that a SEVEN WILL SHOW!
Tying all of this, together...
The Facts that you have used to condemn this Celtic Manager...to an unfruitful Third ATTEMPT at THREE IN A ROW...
ACTUALLY, those facts, TELL ME... along with Nutsy....who is well, well ahead, of all of us....remember his Motherwell prediction??...I believe that Motherwell has up until that game I mentioned.... victorious agin the G.A....in something like Once, in 17 or 18 previous encounters... the exact number escapes me,but it was Huge.
That This Celtic Manager has a BETTER, than EVEN CHANCE... according, to past performances... that his Chance... just like that SEVEN, is BOUND TO COME .
Summing up...
Yes, my friend... I believe that you have convinced Me...
according, to the info, that you have provided...
That MR.STRACHAN, IS a LOCK ....to beat the odds on this one!
Kojo.
Yer pal.... who hopes I hivnae confused ye...too much!
Statements like "if we win the game, we win the league" are in my book naive.
I really CAN see Rangers scoring five against Calderwood's team.
I was petrified about tonight's game as I knew McPherson would not have his team fired up and the high fives with McCoist and McDougall left me fearing a five or six goal job.
That would have made it easy for Calderwood to cover up an other cheating exercise on Thursday- but I still think he will have a darned good go.
We need to be at our very best in Dundee and make the goals count.
McPherson's mob lay down tonight and Rangers should have had 6 or 7.
As I said earlier we will need to win by three goals to make sure Calderwood doesn't do a repeat of 2003.

Patnevinspen,
Sorry, my reply earlier sees a bit curt (in hidsight).
I have always been a big supporter of the manager. However, I had a major wobble after the Motherwell game, but WGS and the team have proven that I was wrong and they are up to the task.
Most reasonable folk just wanted to see some fight in the remaining games. We have seen that in the last 6 games and I am delighted. The position we are in is fantastic.
Some folk will still want WGS to leave, but they will be wrong, in my view.
Cheers,
Lubo.
Good news on the bandwidth worry.
I will be unable to post, so that's one less source to raise the systolic and diastolic measurements. One less F5 button being pressed.
The SPL's attempts to thwart our three in a row by granting Rangers this extension have really screwed me. Normally I would avoid all contacts and watch the game on CH67 when I got home.
This time however, I will be receiving regular updates. My colleagues will understand.
Scott McDonald it's up to you to exponge memories of 2005.
'GG how can I be both confident and nervous?
Pat
As I've said previously I was never the biggest fan of his style. His public comments appeared crass at times and his attitude towards his players (shouting 'you' repeatedly at McDonald against gretna which was picked up on mike) concerned me. But in recent weeks his actions off the pitch concerning Boruc and Tommy have been genuine and endearing. On the pitch he finally got the midfield right, got jan fighting and got Caldwell to turn out some really good performances. Knives may come out but they will be less sharp and held by those unwilling to accept that Mr Strachan can learn from mistakes (and those harboring illusions that the O'leary's and Moyses can do better)
So, will Jimmy "How Orange am I ?" Calderwood throw it on Thursday ? Can't see it. He might have got away with a one or two-goal defeat but any more and his credibility will be shot forever. He does the first name thing when he plays Celtic as well so I wouldn't read too much into it. Everyone will be under the microscope on Thursday. Can't see it being anything but seriously nervy but we should be good enough to prevail. One thing's for sure. The team will be more focused on their job than I will be on mine over the next 3 days !
For anyone looking for tickets for the Phil O'Donnell benefit. Heard tonight only the lower stands are open 30,000 tickets?
Surely not?
C'mon Celtic, get yer erse in gesr!
'As in gesr more tickets'.
My dear Kojo. Your Craps analogy is fantastic, it alas is too complex for me.
What I do know is we have prevailed in 14/18 away from home, they in 9/18..........Dundee Utd and Aberdeen's home records are almost identical. My unscientific mind would therefore suggest that the gentlemen of the turf have the odds right and those of you who availed yourselves of the 4/1 9/2 and maybe even better should rest easy.
Calton Tongues,
I had the chance to buy two tickets online earlier but they were for the Lisbon Lions stand.
They were both Upper tier tickets.
Kojo,
Do you mean, by the law of averages, 3 in a row has to happen some time?
I like your style!!
A wee word about Gordon Strachan . . .
At the end of the Motherwell match, those vile chants of "Strachan, Strachan, GTF . . . " began to be belted out by idiots who should seriously consider handing in their season tickets.
I was furious with them, even more so than the rage I felt against our manager over one or two decisions -- or even "non-decisions -- which I, as a readily acknowledged amateur, felt had contributed to what, at that time, appeared to be a fatal defeat.
And my rage was not helped when, on the drive back to the Soo Side of Glasgow, our manager began to invoke the wisdom of that soccer expert Stephen Fry.
I damn near crashed my car.
At that point, I have to admit, I thought the wee man was done.
But since then his team has shown inordinate courage and drive.
And since then we have learned a little about the personal turmoil this very private human being has endured as he has watched a very close personal friend wither away in front of him.
And amid it all he has shown class and courage.
Now we have one match to go. One match before glory or despair.
But let me tell you this: no matter the score, Gordon Strachan has shown himself to be a true Celtic man.
I hope the lucky fans who have tickets for Tannadice sing the name of Tommy Burns long and loud, but also spare a mention for our manager.
If he was a friend of Tommy's, he's all right by me!
PS, If we actually win it, I think I will cry tears of joy until August.
Calton Tongues,
It's a 60,000 sell-out.
chris sutton, still a bleedin legend!
This is what I heard tonight, at a slightly premature league celebration, (god loves a trier). But, lots of people have been coming in to the pub looking for tickets and, it was confirmed from Parkhead that only the lower stands will be opened. This was last week before the maanky mob "surrendered" the league. Maybe as earlier posts stated they were openiing up tickets online, probably to test the water. But, maybe Paul67 knows the actual ticket allocation.
STILL STANDING AND WILL NEVER SIT DOWN!
I'm off to bed with this thought in my head: The bookies are rarely wrong and they see only one outcome. If there was a hint of lying-down at Pittodrie ( or Tannadice for that matter ) they would demand a steward's enquiry. Jimmy C may not want to derail Rangers but I reckon even he can't stand by and applaud as they stick 5 in. Well, not for a second time ! Surely not ? Tell me I'm right...........
In hindsight I think Strachans problems with regards to endearing himself to the celtic support is he has tried too hard. either by trying to be out pal or by saying he doesn't care. When he doesn't bother he comes across better. (i accept there are some who will and have always hated him) He is possibly a guy that thinks too much
Look at Robson. Hardly ever in the press, never kissing the jersey, does his job and only the unshiftable would complain. Incidentally, i think he is the reason we are about to and will win the league (touch wood for all the paranoids)
Hugh Maxwell Fan Club,
You're right.
Pleasant dreams.
JohnBhoy, you have conjured up those words with style and class. Well said!

God Bless Tommy Burns and his mate Gordon Strachan, both Celtic Men.

Hail Hail
iam sure tommy burns spirit will be there, when Mcdonald nocks in the winning goal.
no black sunday but a green and white thursday!!
hail hail .
WGS is a stubborn son of a bitch at times. It can be a great help at times but it also rubs people up the wrong way.
I like him. I've always enjoyed his PR, mostly. Much rather have his press conferences than the robotic stuff most managers chuck out. It's clear as day now what this club means to him which will/has swung more people towards his way of thinking.
But lets not forget one little thing. If it wasn't for Scott Brown suspending himself out of the team then we may never have seen the Paul Hartley/Barry Robson partnership ever come to fruition.
And top marks to WGS. He may be stubborn but he knows a winning hand when it's dealt to him and he hasn't changed it since.
Wilkie out for thursday?
on 15 points and would miss start of next season if booked. Levein saying he left out Robbo last time so if he plays celtic fans will question and if he doesn't play they (NOT GOING TO SAY THE H WORD NAE ITS AFTER MIDNIGHT) will complain. But he's giving it best for club angle so....
As a life long Celtic Supporter but not brought up in the catholic faith but with an Irish connection (one grandparent RC moved to Liverpool in the 30s) at times I feel slightly on the edge of some of the debate here. But then I loved the club for football reasons, I had possibly naively followed the club for years before even understanding that there was a sectarian issue....well certainly until late primary school years.I have since come to appreciate the social responsibility of the club, to know the history in short, and to love the guys like TB who make this great club what it is.
Today though I was back in the workplace for the first time since the events in manchester. I was informed that the only solution to the 'problem' i.e, the hooliganism in manchester was to do away with Catholic schools! This not in central scotland but the percieved wisdom of pseudo huns i.e. those who profess to support the local team until rangers threaten to win something.
I despair at times, I love my country, I can't help being scottish and supporting and standing up for my country..........but heh, it gets difficult at times.
How may people will be in the George Fox Stand, know the one that is always empty when you watch on the TV?
Also heard tonight Mr Lennon is planning something inspirational!
fair comment Chris but I still wish it hadn't went to the river.
if we do win this league it will be won despite the anti-celtic bias yet seen in the history of this competition,we have stood alone and fought the good fight, while all around our enemies were doing there utmost to undermine and denigrate celtic
as i said if we win this league itl be the biggest GIRUY ever to our detractors, for in the face of adversity and severe provaction ,we stood firm we, stood tall.lets win this damm thing for celtic ,for tommy burns and our manager gordon strachan
spacebhoy,

My card playing goes as far as Gin Rummy and Haymarket.

Kojo,
Being new to this site I was wondering, are you the illustrious leader of the LV CSC on Tropicana?

I went to a Catholic school. It never made me sectarian. The argument against them (in a clever manner) is that by there very nature it highlights that there is a difference and in doing so creates an issue of conflict (let us accept for a moment that there will always be people who equate different as bad)
I would have no problem with sending my kids to a non catholic school if i had kids. My problem is that non-denominational schools are still religious and still emphasis difference. I know of Jehovah's witnesses who were left in class when the minister came to visit or when having assembly. My point is that if christian thought were to be taught to my children in school, i would prefer it to be teachings which i am familiar with and with values that I was aware of. My other problem is the assumption that Catholic school means you support celtic. I know at least 3 people who have season tickets at ibrox who went to St Andrew.
From the BBC:
"Gary Mason cleared a Boyd header off the goal-line before Rangers ran out of steam in the final ten minutes".
This from a team meeding goals and playing against a team already lying on the beach.

If it wasn't for Strachan we probably wouldn't have seen Robson in the Hoops nevermind in midfield, I remember the moans on here when he was first considered as a possible signing. Strachan got a lot of stick the first time he played Robson in central midfield also as he looked out of place and people complained about him playing players out of position. Robson would have just been getting used to playing in the centre when Brown got suspended and I think we would have seen him in there whether Brown got suspended or not albeit it might have been alongside Brown rather than next to Hartley.
Spacebhoy, I agree with you and I had a pal at secondary school in South west scotland who went to St etc Primary School. Big Rangers fan and to be honest we didn't think much about it, his brother though was a big celtic fan who I last met in Lyon scene of the boobo handball heartbeak.
Hunz
Sorry for the boobo of course I meant Bobo...
p.s. I love the big fella but his days as a first team regular are behind him.
About 15 years ago, I was in Seattle on a business trip and was invited to visit “The Amazing Memory Man” who turned out to be a bona fide native American Indian in his nineties. The Memory Man had a special act. He would sit cross-legged and arms folded in front of his tepee, in full Chief’s get-up and for $10 a time, he would attempt to answer any general knowledge question put to him. If he was unable to answer, he would give you your money back. There was a constant queue of tourist waiting to speak to the famous Memory Man.
I paid my $10 and waited patiently for my turn. After about half an hour, I found myself seated before the great Chief, who raised his hand and greeted me with the traditional “How.”
I offered up my question.
“Who won the Scottish Cup in 1977?”
“Celtic defeated their great enemy Rangers by one goal to nil,” he replied after barely a moment’s contemplation. I was of course gobsmacked and happy to forfeit my $10 under such impressive circumstances.
Only last week I was back in the States on holiday and noticed a poster advertising “The Amazing Memory Man”. I could not believe my eyes and decided to take my 12 year-old son along to see the great Chief. There he was in all his glory. Again, after paying my $20 – that’s inflation for you – and waiting for another half-hour, my son and I sat facing the Chief. Eager to impress my offspring, I raised my hand and said, “How” before the Chief had a chance to greet me first.
The Amazing Memory Man folded his arms and stared straight into my eyes and replied, “Andy Lynch with a penalty in the 57th minute.”
Effing brilliant I love it Ed. And on that note I'm away to dream of first goalscorer and scoreline on thursday night. (a little tip if you put McManus first goal and it comes up more than twice a season you make more than even) I'm a fair bit since i started that. But I thin big jan to give it to keevins and 3-1.
Edmond - Arf!
In my life Celtic have been champions on 21 occasions.
I was too young to fully appreciate the 9IAR but understand the significance of the 1966 championship (the first of the 9), 1968 (when we won the crown with 63 points from a poss 68 and even then only won by 2), 1973 when we won on the last day, and moving on, 1977 which I celebrated with teenage enthusiasm.
In my adult (i.e aged 16+) lifetime we have won 11 more championships:
1979, 1981, 1982, 1986, 1988, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2007
The first of those is memorable for the circumstances in which it was won, making full use of games in hand before winning a showdown against our Glasgow rivals.
1986 has many similarities to this season, coming from behind and -to use the horsey analogy - staying on strongly on the run-in.
1988 was one of those seasons where you just KNEW things would work out.
1998, though, was a season where you HOPED AND PRAYED things would work out.
The next 5 were - comparatively speaking - straight forward, and I would argue have served to spoil some of us.
I ask you all now to consider this 2007-8 season and the obstacles placed in our path right through from June 2007 when the fixtures were drawn up - giving us trips to Aberdeen and Hibs, and Hearts at home in the first 7 weeks while their first 6 games were against what transpired to be the bottom 6 Consider also the many other favours granted them throughout the season including, but not exhaustively,
McCurry ad infinitem, postponements of their own choosing, lack of pressure placed on them to actually fulfil fixtures, media apologists etc etc. We know them all and they have been well aired on this site.
It is my firm belief that - given the events of the past 9 months - WHEN WE ARE CROWNED CHAMPIONS ON THURSDAY it will be a magnificent triumph.
In short, it will be the finest championship of my lifetime and, I hope and pray, a fitting tribute to our dearly departed soul brother.

Away to ma bed howling at that post....Ya Maniac! ;-)
Great tale Edmond
Dunno if anyone agrees, but I think Neil Lennon should sit down before the game and explain exactly to the squad, how the team felt following Black Sunday.
Anyone remember the final day of the season, early eighties I think, when Aberdeen needed to score at least five at Pittodrie and Celtic had to drop points to St Mirren at Parkhead? At half time Celtic were goalless and Aberdeen were 4 nil up at home, to you know who?
I know most of the locals will be in bed now, but i've just seen on the BBC website that Lennox Castle ( the old building next to our training ground at Lennoxtown is on fire) According to the BBC, its a large scale fire with several appliances and 35 firemen.
Has anyone got anything further? Is vandalism and arson suspected?
Am I too suspicious?
Is our training ground/facility affected at all?
Paul, could you consider a wee article/update tomorrow on this situation for those of us living abroad and out of the loop. Specifically how this fire etc impacts on the players and our preparation for the UTD game and the funeral tomorrow.
Thanks
Hey troops. Just listening to some music and working on a little late night project, and I came across this beautiful song by the American songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter.
I think these lyrics are especially applicable right now.
Show a little inspiration, show a little spark
And show that things that drew me to you and stole my heart
And tell me something I don't know instead of everything I do
And look at me as if I mean something to you
Our hearts are beating while we sleep, but while we're wide awake
You know the world won't stop, and actions speak louder
Listen to your heart, and what your heart might say
Everything we got, we got the hard way
Show a little passion, baby, show a little style
And show the knack for knowing when and the gift for knowing how
And have a little trust in us when fear obscures the path
You know we got this far, darling, not by luck, but by never turning back
Some will call on destiny, but I just call on faith
That the world won't stop, and actions speak louder
Listen to your heart, to what your heart might say
Everything we got, we got the hard way
Caught up in our little lives, there's not a lot left over
I see what's missing in your eyes; you're searching for that field of clover
So show a little inspiration, show a little spark
Show the world a little light when you show it your heart
We've got two lives, one we're given and the other one we make
And the world won't stop, and actions speak louder
Listen to your heart, and your heart might say
Everything we got, we got the hard way
Everything we got, we got the hard way
Everything we got, we got the hard way

Bhoys we would have given our eye teeth to have been in this position a few weeks back. Self belief and courage have got us here. The manager and the players deserve our full backing and belief.
Remember - You have to believe it to see it!
On this sad day may the influence of Tommy Burns propel us on to win this league THE GLASGOW CELTIC WAY!
Jeez
No negative vibes. Accentuate the positive.
How good they will feel when they win the league and lift the trophy and the joyous singing of the Celtic supporters.
holahoops
It looks like there aren't any programme collectors going to the game. Anyway, if someone gets you one at the game it will be a crumpled mess after the celebrations. I'm not going but I know someone who runs a programme shop in Glasgow, so I will ask him to send you one. E-mail me your details via my username at neilrobertson.com
You really must believe us , keep the faith. CQN'ers , proud to be a Celtic supporter . Reading the posts the last week , you are all CELTIC. There's only one Tommy Burns , and TB comes from all of you , what you stand for , what you want to be , what we want our children to be. Hail Hail
Tempo. Tempo. Tempo. Key word for Thursday. I think we need to start at the right pace- Barry Robson style-ee. Obviously, an early goal is just what the doctor ordered, but I think we are a supremely fit team and Dundee Utd should not be allowed to get time on the ball. Essentially, I think we should be in and about them when they have the ball- a la Motherwell against us so recently. The team probably picks itself at the moment. Naka will play. So, its Boruc, Naylor, Wilson (cant find any updates re Hinkel on-line), Caldwell, McManus, Naka, Robson, Hartley, McGeady, Skippy and JVOH (personally, I'd play Samaras, but Strachan will not change his winning hand). The boys need to be heroes. As do the fans. I suppose there must be a good chance that Rangers score early. Mentally, the players need to be prepared for that. Just keep playing the Glasgow Celtic way. teh TB way. Hail! Hail!
gerrybhoy post 11 20pm
you are correct result is all that mattered but why i remember that match pundits were asking were all the added on time came from if you get my drift and the rest is history
there is this guy in work, a Celtic fan talk about the prophet of doom.
Remember Chris Suttons words about the cheating etc etc etc
Calderwood will do us again,
I just can't wait to get on with it
Whatever happens on Thursday It's important that we represent the club properly. A large section of our "impartial" media are waiting to pounce on any slip ups.
Get behind the Bhoys the Celtic way on Thursday.
Come on the hoops!
The Dundee Utd game will as I've been saying for a couple of weeks now will be our hardest game of the season, they'll be up for it big time - they want 4th place.
Now the Dandy Dons they are a different story!!
Jimmy, Jimmy and Sandy are Huns through and through and 6 Dons players have already been told to pack their bags after the Huns game.
This will be a walk-over for the Huns, the only question is how many will they score?
That fat lady has cleared her throat, she's on the stage, she's walking up to the mike...................... 3 sleeps to go !!! The tension.
elbhoy - Lennox Castle was still smoking this morning - thought it might be the team having a calming smoke but its more serious. Don't think anyone was hurt and its a good distance away from the training ground building.
Eyes on the prize Celtic...that is all that matters. Victory on Thursday will see 3 in a row delivered.
If victory at Tannadice does not secure the 3, then there 2 situations which come to light. Firstly, if Rangers win it in this way, it is surely the most tainted league title ever and second, the SFA will owe Chris Sutton the repayment of his fine + interest for the comments he made after the final games in 2003
Eye of the tiger Celts, eye of the tiger!!
Benjybhoy,
Tony Cascarino had an article in the Times a week or so ago warning of the dangers of playing against players who are trying to impress clubs to sign them. Perhaps those Dons players will be up for this!
When it comes to Celtic I am a bit of a pessimist
However, on this occasion I feel that despite the rangers leaning management of AFC and the fact that 6 players are playing their last game they will not fold.
Aberdeen fans can create a great atmosphere up there and as we know, they seem to hate rangers as much as us, perhaps more!
There is no way they will let their team lie down to them.
As for the outgoing players, human nature first instinct is survival. This is their last opportunity to showcase their talents. If it were you would you miss that opportunity. This is their career that is on the line.
If the jimmies set out their team in a formation which is obviosly flawed then they will rightly be accused of cheating their fans.
Remember also, the jimmies relationship with the Aberdeen fans was delicate BEFORE the humiliating defeat to Q of the South.
They are also working to keep their jobs.
Another humiliating defeat, this time to their hated opponents will be the nail in the Jimmies coffin.
I predict a draw or an Aberdeen win...oh, and a riot
In the words of Jock Stein.
We will attack until we win!!!
Thursday for Three In A Row
God Bless You Tommy Burns
It looks like Lee Wilkie will be left out on Thursday as he's one beeking away from a 3 match ban and I also heard Keevins this morning mention 2 D Utd players fighting at training yesterday, resulting in one sustaining an injury - did anyone hear which two players were involved and the extent of the injury? My hope would be that Danny Swanson has headbutted Mark De Vries in the hairy swingers and both are dropped from the squad!
Sleep in peace Tommy.
You lived our dream and you lived it with honour, goodness and love.
God bless you always.
I meant obviously, ....obviously
Morning bhoys,
Terry McGovern, a lonr time friend of Bruce Springsteen's died last year and he wrote a song for him. The lyrics would equally apply to our Tam. My thoughts are with his family and friends today.
Well they built the Titanic to be one of a kind, but many ships have ruled the seas
They built the Eiffel Tower to stand alone, but they could build another if they please
Taj Mahal, the pyramids of Egypt, are unique I suppose
But when they built you, brother, they broke the mold
Now the world is filled with many wonders under the passing sun
And sometimes something comes along and you know it's for sure the only one
The Mona Lisa, the David, the Sistine Chapel, Jesus, Mary, and Joe
And when they built you, brother, they broke the mold
When they built you, brother, they turned dust into gold
When they built you, brother, they broke the mold
They say you can't take it with you, but I think that they're wrong
'Cause all I know is I woke up this morning, and something big was gone
Gone into that dark ether where you're still young and hard and cold
Just like when they built you, brother, they broke the mold
Now your death is upon us and we'll return your ashes to the earth
And I know you'll take comfort in knowing you've been roundly blessed and cursed
But love is a power greater than death, just like the songs and stories told
And when she built you, brother, she broke the mold
That attitude's a power stronger than death, alive and burning her stone cold
When they built you, brother
RIP Tommy Burns

Catchy wee tune.
My hope for Tannadice on Thursday nightis that Celtic can turn in a Lyon-esque performance!
Olympique Lyonnais, on Saturday, went into the final game of the French Ligue 1 season, requiring only a DRAW away to Auxerre to secure their 7th successive Le Championnat.
After 28 SECONDS, 1-0 ahead (Benzema)
After 9 minutes, 2-0 ahead (Fred)
9 minutes gone, game over, league over, 7IAR !
C'mon the Hoops !

Without wanting to tempt fate, I honestly don't feel the same nerves about Thursday night as I have done on previous occassions (stopping ten/black sunday). I'm not sure if it's the events of the past week putting things into perspective or just a confidence that we're going to overcome everything that's been thrown at us this season - McCurry/Winalot Journos/severe loss of form in December etc.
Whatever the outcome, I couldn't have asked for the team/management since the 4-1 win on the 13th April vs. Motherwell.
Also agree on the comments last night that should we win on Thursday, I'll be re-playing JVoH's last gasp winner in the derby game in my head.
Rest in Peace, Tommy

I've had tears in my eyes all day and it's only going to get worse.
One of the saddest days in the history of CELTICFOOTBALLCLUB as we say farewell to the Greatest Celt I'll ever know.
May he rest in peace.
For us, for Tommy for Lenny and all the bhoys im sure we'll give a performance and a result that will require TFOD get an impossible result at Aberdeen to outdo us.
3IAR
God bless you Tommy, a legened and hero and will never be forgotten
Eternal rest.
Hail, hail
Regardless of last night's result at Love Street, Celtic are in pretty much the same position as after the the games against TFOD at Celtic Park.
Win every game.. and they've done that so far.
Beating Dundee United won't be a formality. Levein has said the difference between fourth and sixth for his team is anywhere between £125,000 and £250,000, a significant sum for such a club. So they have a big incentive to finish on a high after one of their best seasons in a few years, and one that frayed the nerves of many United fans and players alike
Aberdeen are in the same position. They could go fourth if they beat TFOD and we beat United.
Aberdeen fans have seen some good stuff this season, and some terrible performance. Contrast their UEFA Cup exploits with the Scottish Cup.
A lot of their fans don't like Calderwood, and with some of their players in the shop window on Thursday, and a Pittodrie support that simply don't like Rangers, we should be hoping that the management team don't get away with any fixing.
But even if they do, Celtic still need to beat Dundee United by a good margin to make sure of the title. It is not beyond them.
Barry Robson will be up for it. Very popular at Tannadice, he'll want to prove to United fans that he made a good move to Celtic.
Every Celtic player will need to be up for it - and I have no doubt they will be.
So C'mon the Hoops, especially the lanky red heided laddie in the midfield.
Have we not seen that before?

All have top flight football leagues that began play in the autumn, played through the winter/spring and managed to complete play -- on schedule -- before tomorrow's final game in UEFA’s prestigious club competition. None extended play in order for one club to win the league.
Unfortunately for us, one league is absent from this list.
TB RIP
I'll turn to Thursday tomorrow after a more important matter has been take care of.
Like tens of thousands of others I'll be taking time out to head over to Celtic Park and say a final goodbye to one of our greatest ever servants.

HELP!!!!!!!
has anyone in south east asia (especially thailand) any idea if the final match is being shown live???
the whole season is shown on truevions sport 3, all it seems except the decider!!
they did this last year as well, showing a game or two every week until the EPL finished, then it seems they think football doesn't matter any more!!
i've just sent them a harsh email as to why there's nothing about SPL football on the schedule for that night. it seems they prefer to show re-runs of the champions league match and "the road to moscow" instead. it makes you sick...
if they think it's worthwhile showing live SPL up to, but not including the league decider, then i'm really going to throw the toys oot the pram and cancel my subscription (actually, the toys are oot the pram already!!).
if anyone knows anything about what's going on, or has any alternatives, PLEASE let my know asap. it's freaking me out...
also, i only have an adsl connection here so don't know if it's possible to get it online. probably not i suspect...
regards,
alan, in thailand (in a big huff)
All else is secondary.
Today is Tommy's Day.
May God Rest His Gentle Soul

I noticed that our game is now on Setanta with their game now on Setanta 2.(Before they dropped points at Fir Park, they were due to be on Setanta 1). This doesn't help Alan in Thailand get out of his huff,(sorry, Alan) but it may affect some people who get Setanta 1 only (through Virgin etc).
Not that I care since I will be grooving (sat down)to Paul Weller irritating everyone around me with incoming text messages beeping every so often. Let's hope the ever changing moods is confined to song. A quick 2-0 lead for the away team in Dundee and the home team in Aberdeen will provide the relaxation required.
Stand up for the Champions on Thursday (except me.. in my seat...theatre policy)
Alan in Thailand..
I live in Bangkok. I don't know if the game will be shown live. My guess is that they won't, but they surprised me by showing the 2-1 huns game midweek recently, but then reverted to type by not showing the 3-2 huns game on the sunday.
I emailed them at the start of the season when the scottish fitba disappeared. They did reply but it was a standard reply and they just listed the upcoming live sports. Since then they seem only to show live scottish fitba if its the early saturday kick off.
Like you say, their attitude to non english football is infuriating. I also emailed goaltv (who I assume have the rights as their logo appears in the corner of the screen each game) but they never even bothered to reply.
If the game is not on I will be watching via one of the p2p sites, which is about 90% reliable (although I think, 100% illegal). I dont want to post the website address for it here as I know paul doesnt like that kind of thing, but if you give me your email address I'll email it to you.
Am pretty sure I'll be cancelling the true subscription completely next season and subscribe to channel 67 instead...
Let me know if you get a reply to your email.
Hail Hail

Rangers mon about playing two games in two days as being tiring. Today we mourn Tommy Burns and for those of us on the streets of Glasgow, at the Park or watching the coverge on Sky/ Setanta it will be a thoroughly emotional and tear filled day.
Think of WGS and the team, they actually KNEW Tommy, will actually be at the Church, have tried to comfort Rosemary and Tommy's wider family and yet have to within much less than two days refocus having not played for over a week, lost a friend, a colleague and a the man who began the regeneration and reinvention of playing football the Glasgow Celtic Way.
Today is a day for us all to be proud of everything that TB stood for, sunday is the day we can hopefully feel that we give him and Phil a true Celtic send off, but please don't put too much emotional pressure on a bunch of guys who are hurting and so want to give us a happy ending.
The papers and media will never recognise what these guys will have to do in two days, but they need our support more than ever.
I am glad most of the Tannadice tickets were allocated long before we knew it could be THE night as I know the supporters who will be there will get behind EVERY player and WGS because as a supporter that is what Tommy always did SUPPORT Glasgow Celtic!
God Bless you Tommy
This is a link to an article on E-Tims by Che Timvara
Manchester: The Aftermath & Cover-Upa>
Most of you will have no doubt already have read it, just like me. It is a snapshot of the perpetual disgrace that is the Rangers Support on the road.
He articulates well the orison of hate that is spewed from the decaying and rancid heart that is Rangers, in a way that would leave no concerned person untouched.
It counters the Scottish Media’s attempts to present the orcish hordes that inhabit the travelling Rangers ‘support’ as gregarious and loyal ambassadors of Scotland. A false and nauseous diorama constructed from the usual smoke and mirrors, lies, deceit and denials.
Problem as always, some people in their ignorance will accept it as fact.
I had a few moments spare today and I spent them copying and pasting that article by Che Timvara to every person I know. I asked them to forward it on to at least ten people they knew.
I hope Che doesn’t mind.
Whatever happens in this leagues conclusion, the record books will never record the malevolent and Machiavellian lengths that some have gone to, to determine the Championship would not be Celtic’s.
Che’s words and the words of all concerned Celtic supporters should be copied and pasted and stored for posterity. A personal catechism of the hate that has been used against you.
When you feel the urge is too strong, you weaken, and reach out for those mind bending paranoia pills – Stop - just reach for your Celtic Catechism instead and you’ll appreciate you are not alone.
Your paranoia is in fact a figment of their imagination. They are the ones who need the pills… not you.

BORUC INTERVIEW (POLISH PRESS)
The season has Scotland has ended well for Celtic has it not?.
Artur Boruc: Yes I know. Rangers have had there weakest part of the
season towards the end of the year and we've managed to capitalise
on this. Anyway I did not stop believing all along.
You have a league decider against Dundee United on Thursday. What's your mood?
Same as normal except everything can be decided today if Rangers lose to St Mirren.
Will your friend Zaluska help you?
I do think so. Surely he will want to play his best match as if he
didn't there's been an obvious implication from certain people!
You're not going to have long to celebrate?
Actually on Friday morning I fly to the national team for Germany. I
will not have even one free day even. I have accepted long ago that I
have chose this profession and not to complain about these things. I
will make time to celebrate later!
You are rumoured to change club? Will you leave Celtic in the future?
As yet I stay in Glasgow. It is not know any other club is wanting me
so there's not a chance to move!
Did you not hear about Milan wanting you?
Heard nothing
It was in the Italian press?
I do not care about what they write about me and Milan. I do not want
to talk about it because I do not think that it is true.
Would you leave the Champions Leaguw ith Celtic there would only be
the UEFA Cup for Milan?
And?
If you thought about this would you be prepared to do this?
I would not think too long about it (laugh)
Rangers got to the UEFA Cup final even! You must concede that it is an
average level!?
It took much luck for them to get to such a level but history will
have it recorded that they got the UEFA Cup final and I suppose
that's all that matters.
Since we are talkign about Rangers again after the derby you
have been called an "Imposter", "Provocator" and "Buffoon"
in the Scottish press!
I do not want to speak about this theme.
Really?
Yes. These articles are written from people who in my opinion are
Rangers sympathisers. The media in Scotland are generally favourabout of
Rangers and of our rivals. When they played in the UEFA Cup articles
begin to appear justifying there bad results in the league and to ask
them to extend the season. I am convinced this would not be the case had
it been Celtic. Everyone is against us... journalists, managers and
maybe half the players!
You have your defenders too. Celtic manager Gordon Strachan said you
are the best in the world!
That's great that he said so
Does it not please you?
Yes of course it pleases me that the trainer thinks so much of me!
You made a great impression on the Germans during the World Cup with
your performances. Have you been thinking about getting revenge for this
loss?
I am only thinking about the end of the Scottish League because I
really want to end this season as Champions. After this I will think
about the Germans!
SouthLondonTim:
I tested it before I posted it and it did work.
However, in the last couple of minutes, I think as a mark of respect to Tommy Burns, E-tims have downed their pages and replaced it with the picture you see.
I'll repost the link tomorrow.
Tommy Burns... you were a gent amoung gentlemen.
how exactly does tango and sash throw the game v the orcs? this ones got me, does he openly tell his players not to try or does he play the Aberdeen ladies team. personally I think it is impossible to fix the game in rangers favour unless of course there a large proportion of the aberdeen team are huns and the personally contrive to throw it.
If Calderwood said something to his players to the effect of "dont try very hard boys" you can be sure that a parting player would put him right in it. he may not go round the dressing room rallying the troops as if his life depended on it but the Aberdeen players generally and there fans to a man detest the huns and therefore will be self motivated. The only person that can fix the game is the referee and for them to score 5 or 6 aided by the ref would be far too obvious, therefore that wont happen.
In my opinion it is far more likely that we will see an apathetic DUFC, and an equally ramapant celtic.perhaps the sweetner for DUFC will be a knock down price for one of our reserve players therefore making up the shortfall of the 100 k if they lose fourth place.
i know what outcome I would bet my last dollar on.
RIP Tommy Burns-Celtic legend
Kitalba,
i saw ur reference to Paul Weller. r u a scooter bhoy in disguise?
killerheels 11:09
You've hit the nail on the head. People need to get over these paranoid thoughts. We go out and win on Thursday (by any margin) and the odds are heavily on our side. Concentrate on what Celtic do, rather than what dark plans big bad T&C have planned!!!
Killerheels,
what sort of drivel is that, Celtic are not trying to buy anything, we are in it to win it and by fair means, not foul, leave that to the rotten mob and their leckies to cover up, but do not cast aspersions on the integrity of our challenge.
"perhaps the sweetner for DUFC will be a knock down price for one of our reserve players therefore making up the shortfall of the 100 k if they lose fourth place."

now I'm confused as well as embarrassed.
From FF
In truth, the Russian side were the better team - a
class apart and the best by far that Rangers have
played this season. Indeed they must surely be amongst
the favourites for next season's Champions League.
scooter_bhoy, it was my reference to Paul Weller you saw. I am of the "four wheels good, two wheels bad" mentality on the basis that even I can't fall off a car so no scooter tendencies at all really...and I am far too old!

That made me laugh out loud. What a confused bunch of people.

Just announced on television that stv are streaming the funeral service live if it helps some of our Celts abroad.

ah Paul weller, long live the mod father!

absolutely correct. Had the misfortune of travelling in car with Snyde on despite protestations. BFDJ uping the numbers to 200,000 supporters with only 200 causing trouble. Total tosh but pushing the propaganda. This will never change. Bad enough that this goes on but nobody corrected him on air.
Anyone who has spoken to most Rangers fans that were there described teh atmosohere as poisonous. They were fighting amongst themselves from early on. Yet this was the same press who gleefully reported/made up/lied about Aberdeen and Barcelona.
Killer Heels
It was reported that Tango had floated the idea of not playing those players who would not be there next year (9 first team players). He seems to have pulled back from this. I think he walks a tightrope with the affections of the sheep and if there was any suggestion of lying down he would not get out alive (metaphorically speaking).
the world saw what we all already knew about the huns last week. We don't need to berate them because they do enough damage themselves, just by being themselves. I honestly believe they are a different breed.

FTSIMPSON,
thanks for the reply, and sharing my pain regarding truevisions tv...
what is this p2p stuff? to be honest, i don't care. i'll try anything that might help me see the game. otherwise i'll have to sit in the dive shop from 1.30am (and probably sleep here!) to get the updates on CQN..
the truevision schedule is showing lots of "spl 2008" 4 or 5 days later so i reckon there's a good chance it'll be shown then. but there's not a hope in hell i'll try to avoid the score for a few days to find out as i would if it was being shown a day later!!
my email address is deecfc67@hotmail
in info you can give me on your other "alternative" would be greatly appreciated.
if i get anything positive in a reply to my email i'll let you know asap (although i won't hold my breath..)
cheers,
alan (frustrated at probably missing the match, in thailand)
Killer heels - Calderwood managed it with Dunfermline did he not. I suppose it's about how you set your formation up.
You let yourself down by suggesting that Celtic should resort to this. Celtic are the best team in the league, Celtic should go out and play football like we know they can, if we do that, nothing else will matter as we will win 3 or 4 nil and they wont score 8.
Likelyhood is it will be nervy and like the "stop 10" game against St Johnston, 1-0 up at half time and DUFC attacking and a late goal to settle the nerves making it 2-0. The Huns then need 7 to win it...........
I've a favour to ask
Can anyone recommend a bar in Amsterdam to watch the game in on Thursday night - preferably one which they know will definitely be showing the game and which they've previously visited themselves.
Cheers
Nothing to do with TB's funeral:
Something to read once this morning's respects are paid.
We count our blessings, not our debts.
A prayer at midday for Tommy and his family; God rest him and give him peace.

Afternoon to one and all on this saddest of days.
Had intended to head over to Celtic Park to pay my respects, but, unfortunately after a four residence in the Glasgow Vic Infirmary, it's not to be. However, Tommy Burns will forever be in my thoughts.
And I hope wherever he is he meets another, taken too young.Jim Burns, my Seville travelling companion and another great Celtic / family man.
Bhoys, I have spilled many tears for you both and will never forget you.
Forever rest in peace, both of you.
Tommy's funeral on now live on Setanta and Sky Sports news channels
tooheys,
had dinner with an aberdeen fan last night who in no uncertain terms stated that tango would not get out of Pittodrie alive if there was a whiff of lying down. Put us in their shoes, would we lie down to the huns- not a chance!! They hate them as much as us, fact.
signing off to pay my respects.

Paul - in response to your reply I would suggest that, even of we ignore what was and what wasnt done in the lead up to Black Sunday, our Board gambled with the title in the summer - much the same as you have accussed Rangers of doing in the winter.
Do you or do you not agree with this assertion?

Thousands bid farewell to Burns
A PA system was relaying Tommy Burns' funeral to Celtic Park
BBC coverage
Figures from the footballing world have joined thousands of fans to bid farewell to Celtic legend Tommy Burns at his funeral in Glasgow.
Manager Gordon Strachan and the entire Celtic first team squad arrived for the service at St Mary's Church in the Calton area where Burns grew up.
Hundreds of fans were outside the church and about 4,000 were listening to the requiem mass at Celtic Park.
The Celtic coach died from cancer on Thursday aged 51.
The coffin was carried into St Mary's by former Celtic team-mates Danny McGrain, Peter Grant, Pat Bonnar and George McCluskey.
Rangers manager Walter Smith and his assistant Ally McCoist, who were part of the Scotland international coaching set-up with Burns, were also among the pall-bearers.
Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond has also attended the funeral.
Other figures from the football world who arrived to pay their respects included Everton manager David Moyes, Motherwell boss Mark McGhee and former Celtic manager Martin O'Neill.
Former Celtic players Roy Keane, Kenny Dalglish and Pierre van Hooijdonk were also there.
'Unique and special'
In a eulogy, former Celtic team-mate Billy Stark described Mr Burns as a "unique and special man".
He said: "A list of Tommy's wonderful qualities is endless - a dignified man of principle, his generosity of spirit knew no bounds. He showed great compassion for those less fortunate than himself.
"Tommy Burns treasured three things in life above all others - family, faith and football, particularly Celtic Football Club.
The funeral service will be followed by a funeral cortege through the city
"You would see him on the training ground in the morning, demanding and driven. When he returned from the lunchtime visit to the chapel, he turned into a calm and serene man."
Monsignor Tom Monaghan, parish priest of St Cadoc's Church, Newton Mearns, led the service.
He said: "There can be few families who have received the number of condolences upon the death of a treasured member of the family, as the Burns family.
"Although they knew his days on earth were drawing to a close, still the pain of loss kicks in and they would have wanted to hold him just one more day, just one more minute.
"The ordinary people of Glasgow and beyond have joined with supporters of Celtic football club and indeed of rival football teams to express their regard and affection for Tommy."
As the service got under way, thousands of Celtic fans who had engulfed the streets around Celtic Park stood in silence.
Individuals, couples and whole families had made the journey to say farewell to the man they all acknowledged as a Celtic legend.
I felt totally compelled to come here just because of the man himself and what he meant to so many people
Danny Carlington
Glasgow
The mourners crossed the generations of the Celtic family.
George Inness, from Maryhill, said he totally identified with Burns.
He said: "Tommy came from the same background as I did. He came through the ranks and he lived the dream. I'm just emotionally struck at this time."
Elizabeth Snape, from Holytown, North Lanarkshire, said: "We just wanted to pay our respects. He was a really nice guy and Celtic through and through."
Danny Carlington, from the city's south side, said: "I felt totally compelled to come here just because of the man himself and what he meant to so many people."
After the service, the funeral cortege will make its way through Gallowgate and past Celtic Park before heading to Linn Cemetery.
Tommy Burns was treated for skin cancer in 2006, but the disease returned earlier this year. Since his death was announced last week, the outside of Celtic Park has been turned into a shrine.
Alan in thailand,
Both wattie and ally looked very upset. Got me thinking, the guys were saying celtic would have a hard time on thursday after losing a close friend, well i guess Rangers management are in the same boat.

They also helped carry the coffin out of the church.

What a beautiful, touching and Heavenly service and a full credit to all those involved and the organisations that they represented.
As well as being a sad and moving occasion of a life cur tragically short, it was also a celebration of a man who lived life to the full and touched all those who knew him directly or indirectly.

God Bless Tommy Burns and watch over his family.
If you didn't get to hear it, you can read the text of Mgr Monaghan's homily on the website of the archdiocese, www.rcag.org.uk.

I would just like to thank those who have contributed so eloquently this afternoon and kept us all updated.
May the Great Man rest in peace and may his family find solace in his strength.
Rest In Peace Tommy Burns a true hero
Just been reading some of the former team mates comments on the CFC site and this one struck home.
Well done gorgeous George..
“I’LL miss laughing with him. The two of us learnt to text over the past two or three months and all we did was text each other every day. I couldn’t do it before so my kids had to show me and I think he was the same, and we became experts at it. He was a supporter who’d played for the team and had won things and enjoyed great adulation from the fans. But he actually went on to become the manager as well, and to manage and play for your team, which you thought was the greatest team in the world, must have been the greatest accolade ever.”

As if on cue, the picture was of the cortege passing round the front of Celtic Park. As the commentators all said, quite astonishing scenes.
