Opening salvo in offensive chants fired
We've had to endure the most unwanted attention
this season from what often appeared to be a hostile media culminating in
March, when a mobile phone video of Celtic fans in Barcelona singing add-ons to
songs received headline news in the Daily Record and Sun.
Both newspapers gorged on the footage, incorrectly describing the vulgar, and
offensive to many, lyrics as sectarian, raising the suspicion that they had
gone beyond merely reporting news and were involved in a relentless pursuit of the
good name of Celtic fans.
This evening the BBC One's Reporting Scotland broadcast Rangers fans in
Manchester singing the proscribed 'Billy Boys', a song which caused Uefa to
fine Rangers fans two years ago. If you
were a paranoid Celtic fan you will no doubt consider that the Daily Record and
Sun will ignore the evidence presented by the national broadcaster tomorrow, as
their only interest is to sully the name of Celtic, not to report a fair and
balanced view of news.
You will be proven right or wrong in a few hours.

whooosh Yo! peeps what gives???

Kojo, from the previous thread.
The Dodgers are my NL team ;)
However, I'm an AL fan. What can I say? I came late to the game about 8 years ago and prefer the American League.
The A's are more underdogs now than but for a few others out there. Mr Beane does a tremendous job for the team.
Saw it on the 10.30ish Reporting Scotland. I'm sure that will be the last we hear of it
The huns have been singing the same song in pubs, on trains and in town centres, in fact anywhere outside the stadiums all year and our esteemed media pack have not thought it appropriate to mention.
Now they are all in Manchester gorging themselves at the trough of bigotry I'd say theres less than no chance of this being reported.
Do you want to bet whether we will be proven right or wrong, Paul?
WooHOO!!!!
Got a podium! :D
A silver no less.
I'll sleep well tonight.
Paul
I'll never know cos I don't buy any rags
The Russians have no sense of humour- surely they could have changed their name for one night to Zenit St Peters Square.
Can you imagine.......
Paul, I'll eat my hat if it's reported in the media.
They truly are Scotlands Shame.
A thought though. Was the Rangers fine because the chanting was in the stadium? Is it deemed relevant for UEFA if it is fans singing elsewhere?
I simply can't see 100000 Rangers fans in Manchester getting away with no repercussions from the Manchester police, not renowned for their understanding approach. Add racist Zenit fans into the equation and there's perhaps a interesting scenario
Paul: Daft question, but why the differeing approach to events when it was so blatant on the telly? IS there not a friendly journo willing to pick it up and run with it, other than Mr Speirs?
LIARS, CHEATS & BIGOTS
and that's just the Scottish Media......
Would someone who doesn't mind the negative feedback consider submitting a very large
bid on this item on eBay. I find the final remark particularly offensive and would be only too pleased for the hunnish seller to be charged a large selling fee by eBay.
Of course, I am not suggesting that you actually pay the cretin.
im off to bed now, the maverick danced the night away im going to pray the night away for the russians and a grand old humping of the huns goodnite all and up the celts hail hail
What with the wall to wall coverage of the consilation cup,I can confirm without fear of contradiction the undenieable answer to the song is you really can't see a handsome hun!
History has been rewritten:
ITV's News at Ten tonight reported that the 1972 Barcelona ECW Final passed off peacefully - showed brief clip of r@ngers fans invading the park then switched to prolonged clip of Russian supporters engaging in violence.

Are you aware 32 buses left from Larkie today?
The Shawlands made the error of having green paint above the door in their refurbed premises - within hours they had received complaints and were advised not to expect any members of the LRSC to use their premises unless the offending paint was removed. A blast from the past? No. It was last week. The offending colour has been painted over. It's all very sad.
What more do we really expect:
Media Guidelines for Manchester
"See no..., Hear no..., Report no....
Just in case we catch ourselves out."
Paul
I would just like to point out that English BBC reporters and those from the rest of the world (Ireland excluded) will have absolutely no idea what songs are 'proscribed' and will be looking upon the fans in blue in a completely different light - hence, unless there is an outbreak of violence there is virtually no chance that the chants will be reported as offensive

Its like that talking heads song that goes " same as it ever was..same as it ever was.."
the press and "caesar's whores" have applied the simplistic paradigm of a deconstructionist perspective.
i.e at the end of the day they will stop at nothing to prove a point with no regard for validity.
years ago for example during the tentative ceasefires in the occupied states..if an known IRA man kicked his cat for whatever reason then the ceasefires would be declared over by the populist deconstructionist perspective....similarly now..they are trying to display validity by adherence to their own agenda without subjectivity.
"same as it ever was..same as it ever was"

I can certainly believe it. As the only Tim in the village, my one consolation is that it may be quieter here tomorrow? 32 buses? Must have been a slow day.
I heard a rumour earlier from a colleague coming back from a meeting that he saw 4 women who must have been in their 70's draping Union Flags over the footpath over the M74 near Larkhall.
Given your comments about the Shalwnds, I'm sure you'll recall the events when Moss Chemists opened, and became the only branch in the chain with a blue sign!
I did give serious consideration to trying to book a round on Larkhall Golf Course tomorrow night, as I felt it might be a bit easier than a normal Wednesday evening. My other hope is that Hull Watford turns out to be exciting on Sky Sports.
I still liked the photos from BigChipsUK of the photos of Rangers fans in Shambles Square, Manchester. I presume you've noticed that according to the official Manchester website (a friend a work who is a bit deluded is a Rangers fan and on his way to the game. I had to help him with the big words on Google) that Rangers fans are to follw, follow the Orange Route to the ground?
Unfortunately that is not a joke.
Bigchips
Re that e-bay link:
Does that look like a Dell keyboard to you?
Are those cheques on the left?
Does the pc screen seem to be on e-mail?
If the answer is yes, astonishingly, I think I have unmasked the seller. And he's photographed that at work.
Oh, what to do next.
Well that's them been on at least two national aired programs singing their hate-filled sectarian songs.
If there is any justice in this world there'll be mass (excuse the pun) arrests and Rangers will get gubbed 8-0.
Surely some hack down south might find their bigoted behaviour unacceptable?
Their real transgressions will start tomorrow evening at the game, the one thing we can be sure of is no matter how well they try and behave, after a day in the bucky they will revert to type and no amount of press posturing and attempted cover up will distract from their bigoted racist anthems that will be heard and recorded in the stadium, the russians will be fingered but it will not excuse the hunnish plagues behaviour. I am begining to become opTIMistic about this.
Our days of being the flip side are numbered and our day is at hand.
Will the first trouble in manchester be starting round about now?

We can add the Subway sandwich bar to the list of shame in L'hall. I had thought for years Stonehouse was worse than Larkie but I was wrong. For downright crass stupidity our friends in Larkie win hands down.
Councillor Pat Karney, Manchester City Council's city centre spokesman, said:
"We want our visitors to enjoy themselves, to be good ambassadors for their city and their football club and to return home safely after an entertaining world-class football match."
Pat, seriously, what have you been sniffing, smoking and drinking today!?!
Abington
Is there a chapel in Stonehouse?
Abington
The list is endless. The local council has spent a fortune over the years replacing the green covers on the traffic lights and will shortly resort to putting a mesh cover over them as protection. Larkhall driving instructors are the only ones (apart from perhaps Stonehouse. Glassford thankfully is too small for traffic lights)who teach Red for stop, Amber get ready and White for GO!
And then there is the old tale of the park gates being repainted and the locals taking it upon themselves to restore the red white and blue. And the red white and blue kerbstones on 12th July, again painted by the locals.
2 1/2 miles has never seemed so far as it does on the occasional drive drive I make into Larkhall. ON the night Scotland beat France I made the mistake of reacting to the taxi driver's comments (as he drove us from Larkhall Station back to Glassford) about it being a shame a f****** Celtic player had scored by saying why did it matter as long as we won. I got a glare from my Rangers supporting pal who was with me, and a silent warning to shut up, and have never been so glad to see the lights of the Glassford Inn!!!
I'm sure the comments earlier about 100000 Rangers fans and a day on the bevvy will come to pass. Can you imagine the atmosphere in Manchester with that number in the city after a defeat? And all unable to get a train back to their lodgings in Blackpool, Preston or wherever?
Paul67
Longtime lurker first time poster.
Hope this doesn't sound too patronising but you have created a wonderful site for Celtic fans wherever they may find themselves in the world(for my sins I'm in Manchester!)
Enjoy reading comments from the majority of your regular posters and love the debate ,jokes, stories.quizzes and generally good natured banter from (nearly!)everyone.
Also delighted to see Edward return after his short absence-we should never forget we are an inclusive club and I really enjoy hearing the alternative view from an articulate and occasionally funny currant bun!
Thought the dateline 9 May article and the subsequent stories made superb reading and stirred some fantastic memories.
Boydell recently suggested a similar suggestion for Seville stories.
I know you can't do a specific article due to the date not being appropriate however I would love to hear Seville(or Lisbon or Milan )tales over the next 24 hours to take my mind off the currants being in my neck of the woods.
Thought Marcella's(I think)story was brilliant -maybe someone could do a link to get us started!
Keep up the fantastic work.
Yours in Celtic
Kevin Rowland
In fact I think it has already started, fleet of ambulances and police just heading into city centre, looks like a long night for the emergency services, an me as I wont get much sleep at this rate.
Evenin all.
e-bay report filed. Hopefully the unfunny hun will get his account cancelled.
In the meantime, no chance the papers will run with any sectarian singing stories.
It's been suggested that no-one down south will be aware of banned songs. Kenny Scott knows all about them. As do the contingent of cops from Glasgow, about 30 in number, who are down in Manchester to help police the fan zones. I'm sure they would know how to deal appropriately with the bigots. Then again....
Yip a blog tommorow on Sevilla/Lisboa stories is a gr8 idea and would stop blog entries about the hun fans.
From the last thread

Fellow Bhoys,
There is a shop that sells fireworks underneath Central Station on Argyle Street, can I suggest as many as you as possible buy the biggest, loudest firework(s) your budget allows and set them off when the final whistle blows tomorrow.
Huns in the vicinity of Clarkston do it when they win Old Firm and European games so - GIRUY tomorrow all Huns in and around Clarkston and elsewhere.
They will resort to tradition tomorrow when their balloon bursts big time, that unwashed, Royalist drunken rabble of bile will be seen for what they are: THE HUNS!

Anybody watching the reserves game on Celtic TV?
Evander Sno is unplayable there. So much for all our football experts who thought they'd seen some physical and mental impairments which the Dutch coaches had somehow overlooked.
Wee Koki has contributed to most of the goals with his deliveries but Evander is THE man in this 6:0 win.
Work colleague tells me J Underhill is (mis)officiating at Fir Park and this is his last game.
Anyone got anything on this, as the guy who told me is a hun and i don't know if he is at the windup or not.
Let them belt out the BB's loud and the rest of their vile repertoire, plenty coverage.....well practised to give it plenty in the ground,at UEFA's TOURNAMENT. They've been warned, fined....so a good humping then a nice wee ban for a year for them to stew in it......and of course if they do amazingly win the SPL, we simply step over them to the 10m.
I tell you we cant lose out of this final on and off the park.
I'm getting too caught up in this whole Manchester thing. Let's let them get on with it and let whatever happens happen.
As was mentioned earlier let's get the focus back on us and our last game next week. It can still happen, ie 3 in a row, and we need to focus on our next game.
Let's not let those Rangers fans who lurk here, with the honourable exception of Edward who is always welcome in my book, have the pleasure of seeing us concentrate on what they are doing over the next 36 hours.
Tomorrow will be d day of no papers, and as little telly as possible.
Terry o' from last thread cheers how could I have forgot the unmistakable Jim.
Looks like there are tickets going for the home end next week.
I hear there is something on the TV at 8 o clock tomorrow night which might be worth watching. Sky channel 436.
Kojo,
I have a Brooklyn Dodgers jersey I got back in 94 when I was in the US. Bought on the strength of it being the same one worn by Spike Lee in "Do the right thing". I was a big fan of Spike's early movies. I read a wee bit more on Dem Bums and discovered Jackie Robinson's story.
For any of you who don't know, Jackie was the first black Major League Baseball player, he played for Brooklyn Dodgers.
I now have a Brooklyn t-shirt with Jackie's number on the front. Not a lot of people know the significance of it but those that do always nod.
So it's good to hear you guys root for Dem Bums.
100,000 supporters isnt even the record attendance (domestic and european) on this Island!
Who holds that record again?
Let them have their fun, they'll only spoil it for themselves anyway!
Seville stories tomorrow would be a godsend!
Paul long time lurker and first time poster - As often stated previously enjoy much of the chat. Like most on here praying for a Russian victory, although genuinely hope that the decent rangers fans go down there, enjoy the experience and come home, like their team, thoroughly demoralised. Unfortunately they inevitably carry a significant element that will inevitably let them down. I’m not sure that it is our bag to celebrate that!
Don’t know if I’ll be a regular poster but will certainly continue to enjoy the debate thanks to all the regular CQNers
bambi,
I was in the US last year at the start of the baseball season, which was also the 60th anniversary of Jackie Robinson first playing in the majors. Amazing that it was as late as 1947.
Of course the discrimination in sports in our country is far less batent...

One of the things that annoys me more than it ought to is the pride displayed by RFC that no-one was arrested in Barcelona. I had heard this statement several times in the past week. I have a friend who has lived in Spain since 1979 and she said it was the first time she was made to feel uncomfortable about being Scottish. (The political fall out from their visit almost cost the mayor and the police chief their jobs.) There were countless newspaper articles condeming their appalling behaviour and they are regarded as the worst support ever to have visited Barcelona. It goes without saying this is of no interest to the fourth estate in this country.
Welcome The Donegal Dancer, stick around.
BigChips,
Score another one for the good guys!
Spirit of Arthur Lee
No. Part of the reason for this is a consequence of a restrictive covenant placed on land donated for public use - the covenant specified that no Catholic churches were to be built on that land. Another might be shortage of members.
Perhaps any legal lurkers could let us know if current law would prohibit such a covenant.
It´s been a long time in the coming, but finally CQN runs on a media story.
Paul 67 has always brilliantly ignored the media and he has made this site a great source for Celtic news. "Don´t read them, just ignore them" was the mantra. Phone-ins were scoffed at. You find out about Celtic here, not about what some reporters think about Celtic. Nevertheless there have been many, many references from
us all to the radio, tv commentators and press down the years. Those comments are borne out of indignation which is what I feel is running through a lot of the thread tonight. It is simply not fair. Some distinguished posters have championed the cause on the Clyde phone in and even got banned for their forthrightness and honesty. That is the first clash with the media, the truth is often the first victim.
I once wrote a dissertation with the pretentious title of "Gramsci and the Media", (If you don't know who Gramsci is then ask Club Chairman John Reid, because he studied him at Stirling Uni.) According to Gramsci the media is a part of an economic superstructure, which depends on the economy. However he predicted that this information hegemony will in time grow so powerful that it will influence us and be as powerful as the economic base which it grew out of. Now CQN is part of our media, a unique media, one in which we all need to support to further democratise the sector.
"Celtic and the Media", now that would be a good dissertation.
Who said 100,000 Rangers fans? Don't believe the hype, don't think for one minute that it was a co-incidence that figure, they are obsessed by knocking Celtic and it wasn't always that way, they used to triumph their own history but quite frankly Mr Shankly it ain't up to much, 132 years of tainted glory.
Hoping the Saints come marching in.

to be honest I instantly thought the 100k fans quoted did seem as though it was invented purely in an attempt to mirror (partially) what we achieved as a support in Seville.
But we all know that aint possible!
Even if it is 100k in Manchester, they can keep their memories (however good or bad), because I know deep down where I would rather have been.

I am an avid ebayer, and this offensive stuff pops up all the time
if ebay get multiple reports from ebayers ( the more the better) the item
will be removed, fairly quickly.
However, we are still left with the bigot, and his legitimate sales for which he has now left himself wide open to fake bids, by unscrupulous celtic fans. he is selling expensive items and he invites collection from his glasgow office.
hmmmm or don't we stoop to his level, best left to celticminded or the huddleboard
Can we talk about Celtic please?
Are we expecting any arrivals or departures in the gap between now and our last match? Be suprised if nothing is going on...

I also ,have just viewed the Triumphant Ratification of the Supremacy enjoyed by the Celtic Reserve Team over their Peers.
I Believe the Winning of a Seventh Successive Reserve League Flag,by them, emphatically underlines their Predominance.
To continue... I enthusiastically harmonize with your glowing endorsement of the elder statesmanlike performance, turned in,by Mr. Sno.
My own description of his sparkling prosecution of his mid-field duties would be..in a woid, Majestic!
I would describe his demeanour as being almost Laconic,in the simplicity of ease which he displayed, in dispossessing any rival....time after time... and thereby being responsible for swiftly turning defense into attack.
He must be very definitely be retained by our Club.
He has matured into a very important competitor, for a Berth in our

Have you seen the union jacks being sold in the shops today?
Tommorow will be an extravanganza of all things british.
There is a story to tell.
There is a wee fella called ARSHAVIN who plays for us tomorrow. I believe that by this time tomorrow i will still be shaving my arse in delight.
Always good for a laugh (at, not with) is The Scotsman 'Fanzone' article - here
The guy from Hibs expresses disappointment that Murray didn't kick Aiden 'that little bit harder', Tommy Dornan opines that 'I would like to wish Rangers well in the Uefa Cup final against the self-proclaimed racists Zenit St Petersburg, but I would rather tell the truth. Hope they both get beat', while the odious David Edgar glories in the claim that '100,000 of us will make the journey, and the stories will live on forever.'
Ah, the stories.
The magical 'I, er, got a train at Central and in the time it takes to travel to a northerly SPL match, I was in Manchester'
Who could forget 'oh yes, there were three of us in the car, and we went down the M74, followed the signs for Manchester and, er, there we were'
Or the hilarious 'we went by National Express bus - there was a wee delay on the motorway with roadworks, but the journey was nice'.
Can't wait for the books and the dvds.
as kojo would say fooget abooota listen to your heart
Have to agree on the 100k and the hun obsession with outdoing Seville.
I first heard BFDJ quoting this figure when they sneaked through.
Hately reckoned it could be nearer 125-130k and by tomorrow night it will be nearer the half million mark.
Remember the ex- hun director Hugh Adams interview they dont have and never will have our fan base. In his own words they are a west of Scotland and N. Ireland club and most of their fanbase come from there.
I think the 100k figure is fantasy.
I pray the Rug can save the day, have my doubts though.
Lynott67
Is it just me or has the 1972 final been turned on its head and that Rangers were the victims of it all, forever spoiled by Spanish police at not allowing Rangers to bask in their glorious moment?
I am sure I heard somewhere that in that game, a Dinamo player was taken off injured after being hit by a bottle thrown by a Rangers fan...is this true?

The next 24 hours will reveal much. I hope decent Rangers fans have a good time, but i also hope the majority of bigots show Rangers up for what they are and represent. I then hope it is dealt with.
As for Celtic, we have and always will have a superior support base to Rangers. Both in quality and quantity.

Just finished watching BBC4 "the Art of Spain".
Ofcourse it included a trip to the grand old cultural city of Sevilla.
Although the focus was on the art of the Moors of around 900 AD -1300, images of the greatest cathedral in the world brought fantastic memories flooding back of a mere 5 years ago!
We should all be grateful that we were privileged to visit a magnificant city such as Seville, a place that I doubt many of us would have visited before May 2003.
Not only that but we left our own little piece of history.
Today is just another day the Lord has made.
Hail Hail.

Thanks, I like Johnathan Wilson's usual delving into the EE market. I have a copy of his 'Behind the Iron Curtain' book about Eastern European football, a great read for any football fan.
Interesting that all the comments are ridiculing him, the only time he ever gets such comments when mentioning a team and it just happens to be from the boys in blue...
Still no mention of the Dinamo player injured by a bottle in the article, I think it may then just be a myth.
My dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear, friend... Bambi
Have I told ye that Ah Like yer Nomme de Blog...?
Course ah hiv!...and ah wull continue to dae so..so der!
The Dodgers are my second Love... Celtic, have always been my Numbah One.
When I was domiciled in L.A....I nevah missed a Dodgers game...
Base Ball is a very, very Cerebrally Satisfying Pastime... Hard to believe, but it is.... Far,Far, more mentally challenging than Soccer...by a long way.
Every, at Bat, is a whole new page in the Script...
Now why do I say that?( Yeah! Why dae ye ?....ed)( Well, listen my deah...an' ah wull tellya!)
The Secret of why Baseball is such a terrific mind boggler...
for everyboady who knows anything aboot anything... Knows ...that...
It Ain't OVER... Till It's OVER!
Aiding that statement, is the Rule..not extant in Soccer.... that A Game of Baseball, must be played... AFTER NINE INNINGS HAS BEEN PLAYED..until, one team scores more runs than the other.
I have seen many a game...go into EXTRA INNINGS... lasting, until the 20th Inning, before we have settled on a Winner...
Now that,kid... is talkin' a long, long, time.
Now the real Secret of why Baseball is such an Unpredictable Sport.
IT IS A GAME OF INCHES!
Therefore....
According to the way the BALL BOUNCES....which is a term that has now becme installed, in everyday speech...
An Inferior Team... can...and does..... not infrequently...
Succeed in defeating a far superior star studded Rival!
And last but not least...in why I love this game...
The Main Man in any Baseball Team is the PITCHER!
No matter the calibre of his opposition Hitters, the Pitcher must
over- come them, not only by the behaviour of his pitches...fast, off speed, etc..... he must also be capable of outsmarting the batter, by constantly varying his deliveries, in such a way thatputs the batter completely off his stroke.
On the other hand...and here is where it gets most interesting...
Pitchers being human... don't always perform like they did in a previous game... sometimes a Pitcher does not repeat his ascendancy that he had held over the Batters, in his last outing..
There are so many aspects to this Game...that it bewilders the mind...
And nothing Entertains the Mind...more than ... UNCERTAINTY and CURIOSITY of Outcome!
That is why the Enjoyment of Reading a Book will swiftly dissipate...if yer wee brither...whispers in yer ear.... "Och!Ah read that book... It wiz the Butler, that did it!
Like I said...
In Baseball it ain't Over till it's Over!
I have seen ...many a time... a team that is 6 runs behind in it's LAST AT BAT ( The Ninth Inning) manage to come back, and score 7 runs ....and WIN!
Yeah, kiddo.....
It's a GRAND OLE GAME!
Kojo.
yer pal.....who is noo signing aff...... Guid Evening.
The place that we call paradise
Ah sure I mean did we not take 45,000 to the said city in 1984 for a mere Fouth Round replay?
Therefore 100,000 for a final is just second rate some might say!
And how many times have we been since?
And it's hardly the most exciting place on the planet.
Only thing to do there is drink!
Kojo,
You've put a spell on my beloved A's!!
In a pitchers duel through 5 with the Indians and down 1-0.
But I have a feeling we shall prevail. :)
I posted this at the end of a previous article and I would be interested in your comments.
Long time lurker, new poster. Always one of the first Celtic sites I look at.
It is now "beyond reasonable doubt" the integrity of the SPL, SFA and it's officials has been compromised to the extent it is no longer viable in its current format.
It is now more than probable that what was once called cheating is now much more.
The laws of probability cannot sustain the vast number of incidences favouring one particular organisation to the detriment of all others.
It is time for a case to be initiated against - not favouritism or cheating - but against out and out corruption.
Make no mistake - multi millions of pounds are at stake and are impacted on annually through betting, gate receipts, European qualification, etc - and where there is big money there is most certainly the opportunity for collusive and corrupt forces to unite to further their own agendas.
Is this happening? I believe there is a strong prima facie case to be made for the affirmative.
I am therefore convinced for the sake of justice, a level playing field, and the integrity and future of Scottish Football - steps have to be taken as soon as is practicable to investigate this "prima facie" case against the allegations of corruption in the Scottish game, and for this to be dealt with within the confines of the legal system.
If there is enough support for this type of action - it will happen.
Would you support this action?

I'm glad I'm in the States right now!
Any Arrests Yet? Or is that going to be airbrushed too?
Days like today make me happy to be an expatriate.
Swaddled in the protection of 4,000 miles of ocean.
With no news coverage of trips, tours, train or charabanc outings.
No sound of triumphal or bigoted chants.
No visual assaults of tangerine, red, white and blue paraphenalia.
No proscribed songs designed to insult and intimidate.
No drunken threatening crowds seeking out victims sporting other colours.
There are times when even downtown Newark or Camden are comparative safe havens.
Grin and bear it TIMS.

On the subject of baseball, has anyone read Underworld by Don De Lillo? i'm half way through it at the moment, but the opening chapters about the Giants winning the pennant when Bobby Thompson hit a home run are sensational.
Great to read soemthing that gets you inside the passion others have for a game I would otherwise regard as unfathomable.
I have a few Australian pesetas (it's actually very strong these days) on Zenit to win by more than 2 goals, but I have a feeling they will do it in ET... Here's hoping anyhow...
But as many on here have proclaimed in the past, it's not about them, it's all about us.
hail hail
Holahoops, while i am no lover of baseball,i can heartily recommend you read a book called,BALL FOUR,the author is Jim Boughton,it is an expose of baseball and the way players are traded without their consent,i found it fascinating, hope you enjoy it.
Oh,and lest i forget,MON THE ZENIT.
I am blessed to be removed from the tidal wave of media hype and duplicity.
For those of you in its unrelenting, destructive path...
Keep The Faith Bhoys
I am off to a bar to watch happily watch baseball...
With a look on my face like a dog you show a card trick too...
Roll on Their Angst....
Kojo,
dont agree with most of your comments, but feel its a must we keep big Evander.
Potential, right age, build, great price,,,I hope he's goes on to be a legend in the hoops.
Start rotating him and Hartley I say,,,but he could well be off as he hardly plays.Thought he was immense against AC in the San Siro,,our MOTM to me and others.
Hail Hail
God bless Manchester
message to a celti fans out there calling for the heads a couple of our young talents - wake up and get real.
Our only route to success is finding a combination of big money spends, buying up coming stars and rearing young talent.
Too many of you in my opinon have been too quick to judge.
This season we have scored more goals, leaked less goals and achieved more points than last season (i think:-) - AND had a fantastc run in Europe against the best.
Whilst doing this , we have provided HUGE experience to youngsters who will be the driving force force for years to come.
Evander Sno - despite the critisism has responded positvely and will be a major Celtic player given the chance - he is a born athlete.
Scott Brown - An engine who will run all day and needs fine tuning
Paul Caddis - Pace , Passion, Passing , Pride
Gary Caldwell - Ok, I'm not his biggest fan - but i'm thrilled with his character and his performances have been inspiring last couple of months. Confidence will drive consistency (despite his years in the division he is still young)
There is more in the pipeline - lets get behind them and leave our strongest critisism for the more experienced players who should be leading by example.

From a previous thread I see that Winning Gemmel and I have a common acquaintance in a certain Mr. Ness.
Does that qualify me for clique membership?
Should it, would the Teser or BB clique suit me more?
Any ML6 cliques?
Cliques across the ocean.
On the game.
Best wishes to ED.

I sincerely hope your team is severely embarassed and the goals conceded surpass double figures. (Before half time.)

Caddis too soon to tell but looks good. Brown, yes but needs work.Caldwell, yes definitely.
Sno, definitely NO. He is not anything remotely like a born athlete. He is splay footed, one paced, one footed, poor in the air and stil trying to play Dutch style football in Scotland. This means he wants to look as if he is a tough guy, but if someone brushes against him, he will go down too easily then look to Scotland's men in black for a decision....which will never come.Regularly neutralized by average Scottish midfielders.
Whilst we are at it, Donati is at the same game and has failed to adjust his game to the Scottish version.
Both Sno and Donati have looked their best against Continental opposition. Unless they dramatically change their approach, they will continue to be liabilities, and no use to Celtic. Mark Millar would be a much better bet. In my humble opinion.
Now that this day has arrived
let's all say a small prayer.
Lord please let Rangers get everything they deserve tonight.
Amen.
Right Bhoys larkhall is empty like the heads of those who live their.
Everybody meet outside the The Shawlands with your pots of green and white paint, lets paint this town.
Elbhoy,
I dont know how much you watch the reserves but your comments re Evander are way off the mark.
He has been outstanding recently, one paced ? you must be kidding !
The most obvious improvement I have seen is that he has the ability to win the ball and leave players standing, as he turns defence into attack. He looks head and shoulders above the rest in that league (apart from Koki of course).
I have been extremely impressed, do yourself a favour and have another look.
I am genuinely worried about tonight - these dodgy gits have sneaked and pillaged results all season long, and I can't help thinking tonight is going to be no different. I might just cut my wrists now and get it over with.
Breaking news on the BBC website - The King is coming out of international retirement for Euro 2008. I think he has already scored at five World Cups or European Championships going back to USA 1994. Would six be a record?
Paul,
I normally agree with most things that you post, and I am no fan of the Record or the Sun, however I think it would be asking too much of any of them to report the singing at this point. The are doing the build up to their big game and everything has to be positive. We can make our judgement on them in a couple of weeks when it has been reported. Remember the report against us was a few weeks after the aledged event.
hun free day ,Celtic minded golf this morning, garden pm,chapel tonight then best of all late night highlights of Zenit's famous hun humping game.
Keep the Faith
Morning peeps -
Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but today is the 10th anniversary of the death of "Ol' Blue Eyes", the legendary Frank Sinatra.
What chance tonight sees the death (figuratively of course) of the "Ol' Blue Noses"?
It will be a night of silence from me tonight, since I will remain strictly neutral and shall not cheer or curse throughout the match. Whatever happens, happens.
Back to the league however, and I hope they get gubbed in every match. Onwards to 3-in-a-row! And also to much wailing and gnashing of blue teeth!

Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

pray for us sinners,

Celtic anniversaries...
14 May 1960...
Celtic wear numbers for the first time in their history in a friendly game v Sparta Rotterdam.
Celts win 5-1 at Celtic Park.
Uniquely, the numbers were worn on the shorts.
Another great idea from Celtic!
14 May 1978...
Jock Stein signs Pat Bonner from Keadue Rovers, his last signing for the club.
Appropriately, Pat made his Celtic debut on St Patrick's Day 1979 at Celtic Park in a 2-1 win v Motherwell.
14 May 1988...
Celtic ...2 Dundee United...1
Typically, Celtic come from a goal down and score 2 late goals to win the Scottish Cup in their centenary year.
A perfect day!
cheers jq, i will look it up
the game has nil - nil written all over it. extra time and penalty defeat for the huns my option. i will not be watching the game.
demoralised and knackered huns to be beaten at murderwell
WASP british supremcists to rampage and the bad name of the orcs to be dragged through the mud for weeks to come.
3 in a row
Ulster-Celt
i like it - cheered me up, off to work now
must remember to get off the train before central station
just in case i can avoid seeing the scum, and their vile sectarian
songs ruining an otherwise, lovely glasgow morning.
What a wonderful start to the day.
Wake up to BBC Breakfast with 'The Bouncy' being broadcast live to which the reporter says "I don't know what it means, but there it is". Unbelievable.
Arrive in work where Sky News is on in the background to hear "F**k the Pope and the Vatican" in a live broadcast.
Keep it coming gentlemen, sooner or later the morons in the British media might actually catch on to the bigotted sectarian bile you are spouting.
9 Holes of golf for me this evening...
Since I've been on a media blackout for the past few days, I wonder if there has been any mention in the press of Celtic having a blatant penalty turned down and a clearly onside goal chalked off against Hibs at Celtic Park. (Probably not)
Memo to Eddie Thomson: I thought the refs dont have the bottle to make these kind of decisions against the "old firm" in Glasgow. Have a rethink Eddie; It's not the "old firm" and It's not Glasgow, It's rangers and It's Ibrox. Just ask your manager.
Come on the hoops!
P.S. Media blackout to last for another week or so.
The BhoyWithTheWaferThinEyes - no mention of either incident in the media as we have been discussing this at length in work. Onside goal chalked off, blatant penalty turned down, no mention.
Very disappointed that Dundee United have now decided to use the Old Firm tag. Drop this phrase, no guilt by association.
Please tell me it's not Clark and Dougall for the final round of SPL matches? After McCurry these are the two referees I least trust. Clark's got a fair bit of previous this season alone.
I take it we were not proven wrong.
BC 8.44
I have not got to much on Clark. I don't believe him to be a cheat per Rev. McCurry.
I do believe he is the biggest bottler of the lot.
Neil lennon pen incident in front of Copland Rd and this seasons league cup final and the denial of a dufc pen which potentially could have put them 2-0 up Vs Vomit again.
elbhoy
I see that you might be one of those CP "experts' that I was referring to.
On the evidence of recent games and the one we were watching last night (BTW Do yourself a favour and watch it because evidence is a handy thing in an argument), far from going down at the slightest brush, Evander had up to 3 Hibees bouncing off him as they tried to assault him on the ball. He also started attacks leaving Hibees in his wake because one of his assets is stride length alongside reasonable pace.
As for the deficiencies associated with the splay-footed posture, the Dutch coaches he grew up with obviously count it as a less telling indictment than you do.
Evander can compete for Paul Hartley's position but some of our body mechanics "experts" will need to give him room to breath.
Off to work ignoring all signs of the pride of rankers fans. What does pride precede?
Ghoys and Ghirls, how fresh is the air today in Glasgow now that the Orc army has left?
Hail Hail.
3-in-a-row-and-no-Euro-trophy-you-know.
Paul67, are you surprised?
Antrim Bhoy, Ulster Celt -any thoughts on this piece of news?
I think we are being a bit unfair on Rangers for the singing.
As the RST will point out it was probably English Casuals or Timposters trying to darken Rangers fine name.No arreats in Europe this season, and they think they should be proud of this.
It will be portrayed as nothing to see move along jealous Tims.
I saw an incident on the Edinburg -Glasgow train yesterday. A group of 8 of Scotland's Shame (is there a collective word?)were singing abot Jock Stein.
A bloke in a suit in his 50s went over and asked if the knew what they were suggesting. Not one looked up or answered.
The bloke said he was in Cardiff the night Jock died and they should be ashamed.
When the train stopped at Queen St the Scotland's Shame Collective called the gent for everything as he passed then and then informed them he felt sorry for them due to their lack of intelligence and respect. Thank God for the Transport Police presence.
thought I'd made it to the office
City centre .
Then got " no pope of Rome" full blast
hail mary full of grace...................
new article posted.
DBBIA
they took years to allow DC into the league, now they have come up with a formula to exclude them two years after they eventually allowed them in.
can't have the establishment teams going to west belfast to play soccer.
ive never seen an athlete with a bahooky the size of jocelyn browns and penguin feet
Oh how clean does Glasgow feel today.
The birds are singing, the sky is light blue,
if carlsberg did wednesday mornings then this would be the cleanest one ever.
Manchester is manky today, the piss is flowing and the hate is growing.
If they win it dont worry, we will win the league,

dontbrattbackinanger, I am glad you mentioned that, I was just speaking across the room to Maryhill's No.5 who you may have seen make a guest appearance on here now and again with some wisdom.
My family are all originally from West Belfast, Andersonstown, although my own immediate family moved out of the area when I was very young. I would never claim to be a committed fan of the club being that I don't get the opportunity to go to games regularly but I have always felt a strong connection with it and they are obvioulsy my team 'back home'.
I think it is a total disgrace that the club are being pushed out of the league. Unfortunately I don't know the details of what has gone on here beyond that since a change in criteria took place the club lost a stack of points on the qualification system which seems pretty strange. I am not sure what sort of criteria would place clubs such as Bangor & Institute above them. Furthermore, I think the authorities are being pretty short-sighted in exlcuding the club in terms of wider representation. Surely the IFA must take into account the bigger picutre in terms of what is trying to be achieved across the country in terms of inclusivity? At a glance does this not leave the new league significantly swayed towards clubs which would be deemed to represent the Unionist/Loyalist population/supporters? Particularly in Belfast itself.
As I said donbratt I have only heard snippets of information but I will picking up the phone to an unlce of mine this evening who I know has always been a big fan of the club to find out the inside story.
just heard on the news, arrests made in Manchester last night,
it begins.
Good news bhoy4life. If there is any justice, many more will follow. Just had a thought; maybe it was the russians who were arrested!
Antrim Bhoy 8.43am
Cheers. I think the manager should have pointed out these massive decisions that went against us straight after the game. No need for him to compare to what went on at the bigotdome, just to highlight the errors that seem to have been largely ignored by the "impartial" media.
Come on the hoops!
Don't be too hard on the Sun and record, they're not Celtic or Rangers fans, only the fans of lucre. You got da money we make the news.
Once more the other ones achieve what Celtic did years ago .So the orcs are on Jankers, but they'll be used to that,as they're a bunch of them.
