SPL tell workshy Rangers to shut up and play
Workshy Rangers latest attempt to have the season
extended, perhaps to 12 July, has been rejected by the SPL, who have shown
uncommon sense under considerable pressure from the big guns of the Scottish
media and Rangers Football Club.
Earlier today Rangers applied to have their home game against Dundee United
played after the Scottish Cup final but the league dismissed the application. The league will now end on Thursday 22 May.
Expect more defeatist talk from the team who have shipped 10 points in their last
four games. I hope Smith sings that Clash classic, 'I fought the Lawwell and the Lawwell won' again, Biff is doing our chief executive's reputation the world of good.
Celtic don't play on the fourth Thursday of May too often, but bhoy they enjoy themselves
when the opportunity arises.

First!

Psul67,
:) :) :) What did the PL do this time?
I guess his race has run :-)
Someone I used to work with, a native Spanish speaker, never uses the phrase common sense because he said that good sense is not at all common.
But for once the SPL has got it right.
Wednesday and Saturday could be the days that finally put the league back into our own hands!
I take it as Gospel now Paul.!
It must have been hard for Smith to wake up today.
The more you look at their team and their fixtures you really must believe.!

SPL stick to league schedule
The Scottish Premier League has rejected a request by Rangers to postpone Saturday's match with Dundee United at Ibrox.
Rangers, who had a fixture against Gretna cancelled prior to a Champions League defeat by Lyon, are due to play in the UEFA Cup final in nine days.
The Ibrox club face a hectic fixture schedule and have already had the season extended by one week following an earlier request.
Gers boss Walter Smith has opted to play his strongest team in all competitions and now his charges appear to be suffering through fatigue.
An SPL spokesman said: "We had a request from Rangers to have the Dundee United game postponed. We have not been able to agree to that request.
"Postponing that game would have a knock-on effect for the rest of the programme. We would have to move all the top-six fixtures."
Paul67,
Somebody ought to tell Walter it aint like the 90's now. We have someone that fights for the club:) :)
Keegan, Keegan, Keegan!!!
very clever tactics from Rangers - an attempt to galvanise their otherwise disgruntled support in the face of "adversity" - all this negativity and feeling of hardship will break their discipline as soon as teams put them under pressure - Ferguson will crack and the team will crumble.
Celtic - stay focussed on Hibs match - fast flowing skillful football will be rewarded with clinical finsihing.
we (and the schedule) shall not be moved!
This issue isn't over.
The Scottish league are still working with Rangers to find a solution.
Sorry to sound like an old school teacher but lets drop all this talk now about schedules and fixtures now. It was a useful scare tactic from them any which way it came up. Only Setanta running with the Naka story. We have a very tough game at Hibs. If we had generated the Wednesday night atmosphere when we played them last and reproduced that on the Sunday instead of being complacent having scored early they wouldn´t have scored twice in the first half. I hope the weathers good. What´s the weather forecast ? not that that means much I know but everything goes into taking the pressure of our Bhoys while quietly but assertively confident and concentrating on the job in hand. Supporting the CHAMPIONS
Still something in the pit of my stomach tells me that both the SPL and TFOD will pull a rabbit out the hat with this one.
Murray and Wattie tend to get their own way sooner rather than later.

paul67...
why would motherwell and dundee utd agree to a postponement..surely it's not in their interests to change the dates from where they are just now...
secondly...
the real issue is that the spl, and the sfa may be obigated to do what they can to help rangers to win the uefa cup, to help them defeat zenit...and i have no issue with that...
what i have a major issue is, that these bodies can not do anything to win the spl, in other words to defeat celtic.....
effectively rangers are not bleating about the uefa cup...they are begging for help to win the spl..and everyone knows it...the spl and the sfa must tell rangers that they can cancel all their games before the uefa if they want...but the league will not be extended further...even if that means 5 games in 8 days
the spl and the sfa have no remit to help rangers to win the league.....they can help them to win the uefa cup, as long as it does not disadvantage anyone else in scotland

If we win the league, and the odd's are still against us.
There will be very few occassions ,that we will have been able to reflect with honesty, that the football we played this season was "fast, flowing, skillful football rewarded with clinical finishing."
Right now,i will be ecstatic if we win the league playing our own version of "Anti-football."
It is a myth that we have been good to watch this season.

26 May UEFA CHampions League Final: Man U 2 Bayern Munich 1

In a nutshell what does this show us??? It's shows that Keegan has no faith in his team to pull it off. He's looking for an extension so he can get some first team regulars back like Adam and McCulloch, possibly even McGregor.
It shows that has no confidence in ith the players he has at his disposal at the moment. If Motherwell could nick a draw on Wednesday i can see Walter breaking!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HAD1fcPDOM
Agree with some posters that I still am suspicious that somehow Walter & Co will get a sweatener 'for the good of scottish football'....cheatin is what it's called!!
The sooner we bag these vital 6 points we've still up for grabs the happier I'll be.........Hibs won't make it easy nor will D Utd....and Saturday was a hellish until that final whistle blew....so what I'd give for a rampant display and a fair few goals for us!!
Hail Hail !
As the saying goes

Come on Walter send in the clowns.

If the SPL season is extended, whether that be as a result of illness decimating the Rangers squad at any point over their final five games, or a further extension is granted by the SPL to ease the pressure of their fixture backlog, Celtic fans should orchestrate a boycott of all domestic away games next season. Celtic Supporters Association and other supporters groups should make this strategy quietly clear to all chairmen at SPL member clubs asap, well in advance of any SPL change of heart or freak Ibrox pox.
I just got another excuse that i personally hadn't heard yet. The extention request is not a favour but just plain old common sense. It's for the health of the players and because we've already had 1 tragedy this season in Phil O'Donnell (RIP). It's too much for the players...
Thats low!!!
If i was good enough to be a professional player for the hoops, i'd play every day for them for free. Using Phil as an excuse is disgusting in my opinion.
WGS, he is not a man I would cross. Again.
Ironbhoy, he would have been better shutting the dressing room door yesterday afternoon and telling his players “we’re going to do it, irrespective of who is against us”.
Instead he has run for help and failed. How not to motivate a dressing room.
Tinytim, I don’t care when they play United, as long as it’s before Thursday 22 May.
Barcabhoy, if United played Rangers after all other games were finished, they would know what result they needed for a Uefa place; perhaps a 0-1 defeat, which suited Hibs in 2005.
Greensideup, thanks.
Boycotts are not us.
Celtic shall prevail.
After every dark night there is day.
Ironbhoy.
What about their request to have drawn games decided on penalties?
I also fear that they might yet get their wish. They’re running scared and we should do everything we can to make sure they don’t get it their way.
On a lighter note; I took the weans to Celtic Park today for the training day, even the wife came along and thought it good (although that was after big Georgios ran right past her)
A wee bit of nightmare getting in but it was good to se the team going through their paces and to get a look at some of the fringe players all in the glorious sunshine. I’ve now got a big red heid ‘cause I forgot my factor boilersuit et balaclava.
I doubt any other team in the country could get that turnout or a training day. Also good to see Gordon getting a good reception.
Hail Hail
mncelt :-)
......or how about 2 points for a 0-0 draw
I reckon that the SPL learned from some of the flak that they got following the Gretna postponement that another unilateral favour for the Anti Matter is simply a non-starter.
It's also a unique situation that all top 6 SPL teams have something to play for and will fancy their chances under the current circumstances.
As others have pointed out, 'Sir Wattie in Waiting' always has the choice of fielding a weakened team against Dundee Utd?

Just heard a whisper on how the news went down at Ibrox. They are not taking it well.
I was reading a bit of history today and came across two bits of trivia that are quite interesting, as Mr Fry might say:
1. Rangers first ever game finished in a 0 - 0 draw.
2. Rangers first ever filmed game was a cup tie loss to Queen of the South.

I have posted about this on CQN twice since Saturday.

Personally, these bam pots think they rule the world and can demand anything. We are Rangers after all. Could you imagine the outrage if the shoe was on the other foot.
Would we have the likes of Jingle Jackson and King spouting and pleading a case?? Would we heck!!
Jingle was adamant that there would be a sting in the tail with regards the fixtures. 100% sure!! What was Bain feeding him to think of that i wonder???

Just noticed this at the bottom of the BBC report on the knock back.
'Rangers have so far refused to comment, stating that a Scottish national newspaper has exclusive rights to their reaction.'
Oh my sides...
Does anybody know if Rangers had any players signed in the January transfer window who were eligible to play against the teams that their games before the new year were postponed ?
I seem to remember Gretna as being one of them but cannot remember if Dailly, Davis and Alexander played in the re-arranged fixture.
I can imagine Paul,

Reading the comments since Saturday's victory, I can't help but think some of us have the green & white ribbons on the SLP trophy already!
I've said it before and I'll say it again - the Hibs game we should win with the backing of TGFITW, the game at Tannadump is the one that worries me, they'll raise their game against us and they have something to play for too which makes them dangerous opponents indeed.
The Dobs I feel will drop a couple of points but that means we still have to WIN our last two games.
Proceed with caution bhoys and ghirls ........... that fat lady is on the stage and she's clearing her throat ........ hopefully to sing Hail Hail.
I'm a guest at next week's Sportswriters Dinner - it could be a great night for me if results on Wednesday and Sunday go for us .......... if they do I'll be the guy at the bar that can't stop smiling.
GordonJ :- Thanks for that bit of historical info, I was aware of the first game but hadn't realised that about the first filmed game. It's always nice to pick up snippets.
Mickybhoy :- I agree it was no coincidence, it was done to wind up the Celtic fans and it seems to have worked but I don't think it can be classed as sectarian. Fans of other clubs can dislike Celtic (or Rangers with Aberdeen being an example) for reasons that have nothing to do with sectarianism. If you call all insults sectarian then it lessens your case when protesting against true sectarian actions.
Frever Anever:
I thought you were at the wind-up there, but its true!
How can a newspaper have the rights to the reaction of one isolated incident from Rangers. Unless of course, they were already aware of it before the request was sanctioned?
Defies belief.
Does anyone else find it ominous that the BBC article ends with "A scottish national newspaper has exclusive rights to their reaction"?
Is this a plan that's backfired? Or is this just the start of something...
By the way, if Lex Gold and THEM do manage to do this, I honestly would advocate that we refuse (or at least threaten to) to play our last remaining games. There is no point competing in a league that has shown it doesn't encourage competition.
On the training day.
I was in Glasgow today shopping.
A busker asked my daughter to help him out with a magic trick in Buchanan street. He then roped in my wife, and finally me.
Standing watching the crowd that he had amassed, i was struck by the number of Hoops shirts that were in the crowd.
I didn't know that the open day was on.
This was a opportunity missed, and would also have saved me some coin.
Where and when,was this advertised?
oopss think the banner has changed.

Paul: Where did you get the stats of Rangers having the biggest squad in the country?
When I trawled through the SPL clubs' official sites, taking into account players loaned out and in, Rangers had the third-smallest squad, which looks like ridiculous negligence to me.
I repeat. The Darnel have not given up on this.
They will try to find another way.Just wait and see.
Like a few others, i feel theres still a twist in this one yet.
No doesnt always mean no when FOD are concerned.
Paul67,
Let me guess???
WS: That F***n' Lawwell, who does he think he is""
WS: David what's happened, it never used to be like this?
DM: I got rid of Campbell Ogilvie!!
WS: Why the F*** did you do that?
DM: I didn't think you would be back plus Martin is good at taking all the flak for me and does everything i tell him. Campbell fell out witrh me as well.
WS: He's a F****n' imposter. How did that mob across the water manage to get a good guy in Lawwell? I was used to Michael Kelly's, Terry Cassidy's, Jock Brown's of this world. Muppets that we could bully. They had no backbone until Fergus came in. Even then we had Farry at the SFA with Campbell to take care of him. Well kind of until Farry got rumbled with the Jorge Cadete affair. Even so it never used to be like this. We might have 80% of the media but they are idiots. Listen to that King yesterday
he gives it away too much. They journalists these days can't disguise it as they used to back the 90's.
DM: Lawwell, Lawwell, bloddy Lawwell!! He detestes us with a passion. Celtic have finally got their house in order and got one of their own in that actually is very astute. Might replace Bain with sad sad of the raggy dolls again.
WS: Who??
DM: John McLellan
WS: No. Just stick with Martin!! Look at the mess he created the last time.
DM: Maybe your right. Martin it is then:)

This gets more remarkable (and hilarious) by the minute !
That Smith has now backtracked on his own words about not wishing for an extension is bad enough ...... but that they've offered their reaction as an exclusive, I am astounded at that news. Absolutely astounded.
They have now entered unprecedented territory. How do you think the rest of the media feels about this snub ? It is probably the most interesting part of this latest fiasco ......
And could have repercussions beyond this season.

Peter Lawwell should contact the SPL tomorrow and tell them we'll play our last 2 games on the next 2 sundays (as originally planned) and they can do whatever the feck they want with the huns games. They'll drop points anyway, they've been found out and cannae buy a goal (although i'm sure they'll try).
Tinytim,
I don’t know where it was advertised ; I heard from my sister-in-law, so popped into the EK Celtic Store and got a couple of tickets for the wife and daughter. Me and the wee man used the season tickets.
It must have been advertised somewhere though ‘cause there must have been around 12-15k there.
Don’t know about saving coin though; I had to stump up for a kit for my daughter and another one for the wee man.
Hail Hail
In response to those who came back to my post a couple of articles ago...
Yes I kept the faith even after Motherwell because the simple fact remained even after that game: it was still mathematically possible for Celtic to win the league and therefore I was unwilling to give up on the team.
I made a point about Clinton's supporters, have they given up on the campaign because Obama looks like winning?
Fair enough different people have different reactions and different points where they will stop chasing after something.
But I was brought up to actually support the team, no matter how unlikely a win or a league was.
My reference to Turnaround Tuesday...
Before we beat Artmedia 4-0, how many people adopted a very similar attitude to the one which was spread throughout this site following our defeat to Motherwell a few weeks ago?
In both situations I adopted a stance of 'Keep The Faith'.
We beat Artmedia 4-0 and results improved along with performances and we went on to win the league.
Following the Motherwell game, results and performances improved...we are now very close to completing a similar turnaround.
As far as EdwardUrsus is concerned...
Its not a case of just scrolling past his posts, several people enter debate or general chat with him which expands the amount of page space he gets.
For me it takes away from what we are here to focus on.
As for Kojo, at least he talks about Celtic.

how can these blatant cheating barstewards get away with this, now the sfa have stepped in to the fixture row, there george pete has said the spl should be doing summersaults to help rankers in the final of a european tournament blah blah ,the sfa have know said they will postpone the the scottish cup final and the season will not end till may 31
this means that the doonhammers will have went 5 weeks without a game before they play rangers in the final, this all came about after the spl refused rankers an extension to the league late yesterday, but after much rowing and phone calling between martin baldybain and the spl/sfa have now found a way for rangers to cheat ,this should have celtic up in arms there must be a legal challenge of some description the cheating barstewards with the connivance of sash gordon and stinker peat at the sfa have stepped into this spl fixture debate and now the season wont end till the first day of june ,312st may to be exact, the announcement will be made at 12 noon today
