My friends in Celtic, they will tell you it's tiredness, but you and I know the truth; today Rangers achieved their joint second-best result away to a top six team all season.

We unquestionably have faced an enormously effective team this season, but defending with 10 men behind the ball has made it virtually impossible for Rangers to beat a decent SPL team away from Ibrox - irrespective of who the referee is.

Walter Smith has been found out.

You really must believe us.... (still on my knees).

We will be champions before we take the field on Thursday.

And Tommy will be laughing his heid aff.

And diving in to the pile on.

Mon the 'tic

It is ours to enjoy.

And enjoy we will.

WG spotted speeding away from Fir Park in a truck marked "Towels."

After being at Celtic Park this morning, then the game and now the Phil tribute at Fir Park I am in tears as I type this.

I have a vision of Barry Robson scoring the title winning goal on Thursday night at Tannadice. Just like another red haired Celt did all those years ago.

Let's win it for Tommy!

Glad Im off on Friday!!!!

Bob malcolm doesn't appear to be enjoying the post-match celebrations as much as his team-mates

st mirren have only conceaded 5 goals in 9 at home since the new year

they have only lost one in 9 at home since the new year - that was to us - a last minute naka wonder strike

that game is in 2 days

3 in a row

Agree with McStay_8, this is going to taste very sweet if we do the business against Dundee United.

Nice one Paul! This is shaping up to be the sweetest title in a long time!

Now, on to tannadice and victory!

Oh the ale will flow tonight.

It`s back in our own hands
Hallelujah.

But it`s not over.Determination,not celebration.
Oh,all right then,a few bevvies.

Wonderful result for us. Now all in our own hands.

Best of luck to Celtic against Hibs Ladies today!!!!

Surely the players will now be ramped up to the max. Rangers' confidence is flagging. Cuellar suspended for the St Mirren match. It's going to happen. I'm a believer.

We must fight to the final whistle!

Nice one Paul! This is shaping up to be the sweetest title in a long time!

Now, on to tannadice and victory!

Having been a haappy clapper and confident that they would drop points, I would also ask that we keep the gloating to a minimum cos....

We ain't won nothing yet.

The hard part was always going to be our team winning all our games.

So, for now, let's enjoy the result today but, keep in mind, we have a game to win.

BTW I thought McGarry, usually a journeyman player, was outstanding for Well today.

My towel is pristine.

This one's for Tam Burns

From last Post

Nice touch by Motherwell with the Giant Phil O'Donnell Shirt and the all the players wearing a Phil O'Donnell Jersey.

The smile on Big Mark McGhee's face is priceless, Thank you Bid Man.

Paul67

Have you hired a new script writer, your post headings the last month have been first-class

With Paul's permission I would like to retract my comments of half-time. I clearly don't know what I'm talking about.

It's amazing, Setanta have hardly mentioned the huns in their post-match analysis. Rob McLean sounds as if he might burst into tears.

What would be the odds on St Mirren doing us a turn as well??
This is a big game for them. Last home game of the season and against one of the top six, when they've been playing no-one of note for the past few weeks. I think they'll be up for this, especially with the ex-celts around the club.
I think we'll be heading to Tannadice needing only a draw....

Towelretrieval.com they finally delivered!!

Phew they were leavin' it late cos I chucked that towel away weeks ago and so badly wanted it back :-)

Now Gordon get your bhoys fired up for the biggest 90mins of our season......wonder how Walt will approach St Mirren 4-2-4? Will Gus McPherson play his reserve team against a potentially knackered gers side?

They know they need goals now!!

No doubt SPL \ any any none 'Gers minded' folk will be blamed for not helping Dignity FC gain yet another favour from powers that be 'for the good of scottish football'

Patnmick, “we’ve got the whole league” love it.

Remember that one from Murrayfield; a special time. I’ll maybe borrow your words if you don’t mind.

Kano, you bet he will.

CelticSephiroth :-)

1977, agree. 1998 was the most important in the last 42 years, but this will/would be the sweetest.

larkin1907, :-)

Well well well.
Who would have thought it?
Now getting ready for work with a slightly higher spring in my step than Wednesday night.
Rangers were terrible in the second half today, utterly disjointed and feckless. High hopeful balls waiting for a knock down and snap shot. Reverted to type. Even the goal they scored came from a ball from the half way line that Smith should not have come for.
Enough about them.
Remember when it was being mooted in the press that the league was over and pressure put on WGS to admit so?
I think after the Motherwell home defeat. I certainly had my doubts, however was consoled by the thought of our respective run-ins.
I then watched both home games against them and saw the determination in players' eyes.
I know that this is going to sound maudlin or mawkish but our team talk on Thursday night should only be two words.......
I think many a tear will be shed on Thursday night no matter what.
Hail Hail fellow travellers.

6 weeks ago I threw in the towel, after Motherwell beat us 1-0 at Celtic Park. I had all but accepted three-in-a-row was all but gone. Maybe it would be fair to say I lost my Faith that day in Celtic's ability to do the necessary.

While I'm happy to accept we needed favours from other teams to get us back into pole position, I must also accept "they" have had many more favours than us this season, and not just from other teams - last week being a perfect case-in-point.

Never, NEVER, again will I ever doubt Celtic.

Paul, was in your neck of the woods recently.

I waved as I passed the famous grotto. There was some kind of singing in latin coming from it as the sun set behind me. So if you saw some sort of sillhouetted figure waving in the glaring light of a sunset outside the grotto....

Occasionally life imitates the most satisfying works of art in its cathartic symmetry. Winning the league at Kilmarnock a couple of years ago helped to lay one ghost. Now this. I would never have believed it possible, but I may just be getting over Black Sunday...Sorry Martin, couldn't help mentioning it.

Why does this silly grin keep spreading across my face? I'm going out now to see if its infectious.

Rangers have not won any of there last 5 away league games.
3points from a possible 15

Dropped 53% of their available points away from home.

Get in there

missing ' in there somewhere.

Don't call the trip to tannadice a crusade. We remember what happened last time we headed off on a crusade to defeat the arabs! ;^)

paul67, you have a wonderful way with words .

if i was the editor of the daily record, i'd have you headhunted.

just said a prayer for the first time since my conformation !

I can't make it up to Dundee due to work commitments but if I was there there is one song I would be singing:

"One Gordon Strachan, There's only one Gordon Strachan"

Hail Hail

Is it finished yet.

Paul67 and others....

This is maybe not the time to bring this up on such a fabulous evening but I've always been a big fan of Strachan. I know the support has been divided but he has always delivered.

However, after the Motherwell defeat, some of his biggest supporters suggested his time may be up (I'll admit to being one).
Two derby wins later, the title is in our own hands and Strachan has ended the Smith hoodoo. We're on the verge of winning the league and it now seems that with Robson in the middle and McDonald back among the goals, we have the balance that made us Scotlands best team.

It just goes to show how fickle we can be but with this drastic change of circumstances, I'd be delighted if Strachan can continue his fine work, fine tune a team that needs tweaking (not rebuilding) and see if he can end his next hoodoo of winning away in the CL.

What are other peoples opinion on this now he's on the verge of becoming the most successful Celtic manager since Jock Stein?

A great result for us. Hadn't the strength to watch it; never can stomach them. But it is really up to us now, I feel. Roll on Thursday. If we do win on goal difference, it will be so, so sweet.

Zbyszek,

the words of a prophet,indeed.

latest newsflash....rangers fans are looting poundstretchers in motherwell town centre.

zimmerman,

I heard about this, apparently someone's telly stopped working.

Thank you Mark McGhee, Chris Porter et al. I thought Steven Hughes had a great game today, a few crunching tackles (not like him). Maybe he had something to prove.

I don't want to jinx it but Thursday night is shaping up to be one of the most emotional, memorable, bitter-sweet nights of football in our club's history.

Let's keep the head and pull it off.

We have bottle. They don't.

Where we have Barry Robson and Paul Hartley battling for every inch of territory, they have Barry Ferguson, who - when his team needed him the most - went missing today. Again.

This season has been unbelievable, in so many respects. If we pull it off in spite of everything it will be sweetest since stopping ten in a row.

Barry Robson to star on Thursday, along with Aiden McGeady.

Then we will celebrate all that we are and three-in-a-row will all the sweeter for the obstacles that have been placed in our way; for all the usual shenangigans that we have seen more this season that ever before.

And if anyone remains who still rejects Gordon Strachan as not Celtic minded or Celtic class, then surely they will embrace him on Thursday, especially after the last few days.

We will leave the Rangers fans to their riots and we will celebrate.

And Tommy will be there with us, right on top of the pile-on.

Paul,

There are a million reasons why this will be the sweetest.

A wee suggestion - maybe you could narrow it down to 5 or 10 for an article maybe?

Keep up the good work and fighting the good fight!

My towels were always nicely stack in the cupboard, I never doubted, I always believe so I have no need for your admirable services. My Motto never give in till it is done.

This is gonna be the sweetest league victory ever since we stop TIAR. On Radio Snyde the recriminations have already started, Orcs are phoning in slagging some of their players. Oh am I loving it right now.

Three in a row here we go.

Stand up for Gordon Strachan, supporters have said this team hasn't improved but we will end up with more points that last year and against a resurgent Huns who have spent money and made a UEFA cup final regardless of how they played and got there, so please all the Anti- Strachan Brigrade don't go on saying that it was against the worst Hun team in ages.

Well Done WGS

Artur should do more interviews!

"It doesnt matter because we will be at the top at the end of the season"

Wally's interview was priceless. You could see it in his eyes and hear it in his voice - he knows he's a beaten man.
It's ours, I'm now convinced.

Paul can I ask a quick question

This postponed Love Street game off theirs... its occurs to me... when the league split were they within 3 points of the 6th spot... or what would have happened if they had been?

PS I apologise to Mr G Smith and co. for what I was thinking at half time

Tuned into Radio Clyde......days like today offer an insight into what 'ra peepil' are thinking...even it is listening to absolute tosh from BFDJ & Co.

Apparently Walt has been playing a team devoid of attacking ideas and flair.......McCulloch is crap, Cousin is crap...who else is crap wearing a Gers shirt?

NO flair or ideas up front I'd never have thought it?

Emdy else think that?

And there was I thinking Barca and Man Utd were looking to Gers squad to cherry pick from the current batch of football genious that have entertained (Eh?) this season!!

We have to be so focused for thursday......just hope every celtic player knows just what this means to us all!!!

C'mon the Hoops.

Hail Hail

If they lose it at St. Mirren, I'll take it and enjoy my party in Dundee.

But, I won't expect it. My prediction was always that they would drop enough points to give us control. What my prediction could not tell me was whether we were good enough to win our last 5 games.

Well, our team has been strong. There is only ONE match to go. ONE very hard match against a team that is hurting and does not always differentiate between teams from Glasgow. We have a big hill to climb but, if we climb it, we don't need favours from anyone or permission to plant our flag.

That is a great achievement.

Well done, Gordon Strachan.

Well done, Tam Burns.

Well done Neil Lennon.

Well done, Gary Pendrey.

Well done all the players even the maligned ones.

This team, which was called the worst in living memory by some fans, is on the brink of greatness.

The brink is a great place to be because you can see the other side. One big jump. As Van Halen said, you might as well.

Like a few others on here Gordon Strachan is about to make us eat our words.
He is on the verge of Greatness..go on wee man make yourself a LEGEND

In the interests of accuracy, ‘He's got the whole world in his hands’ was first sung to Pope John Paul II by the student priests of Maynooth during the Pontiff's visit to Ireland in 1979.

I will concede that the Murrayfield rendition three years later was more raucous.

GB,

mines is on record on many occassions.

Unfortunately so is my opinion he will leave at the end of this season.

Despite what many people think.

Celtic will be the losers.

He has proved, time and time again, that he is a magnificent ambassador for our club.

All the while claiming he is no manager, but merely a coach.

He has never seeked the glory, but delivered it.

Has never criticised our players, board or fans.

But he himself has been hauled over the coals by our"fans" for treating a mob of pondlife who treat our club as a punching bag with the distain they deserve.

Of course I speak of the "Scottish sporting press".

It really beggars belief, some of the garbage that has been directed at him.

WE will be the ones who miss him.

And I actually believe,he will miss us just as much.

He wasn't one of us before he came.

But I have absolutely no doubt, despite his treatment from some quarters.

He will always be one of us in the future.

You have to be involved with us to know what it is like.

And "involved" is certainly what he has become.

If,after Thursday,we have the three in a row,he will deserve his place in history.

For despite what people may say about the opposition,or our football,or his signings,or his personality.

He will be one of only three people in our history who has managed this feat!!!

No one will record anything other than this fact in the future.

And this is the way it should be.

Larkin1907 - after watching Gordon's emotional tribute to Tommy Burns I think he knows now what it is to be part of the Celtic family, and how much he would miss it were he to go. I'm sure he will stay. I hope I am not wrong. Roll on Monday!!

Hail, hail,

Crocker on Setanta said several times 'self-confessed Celtic fan and friend of Gordon Strachan, Mark McGhee...'

Imagine a friend of Celtic doing something that helped Celtic!

Why, the impertinent cheek of these Celtic folk.....

STANDING UP..waiting for Thursday,cos we're having a party

Let's be glad for another great boost.

We fight to the end and, no matter what happens, we don't stop until it's over. It's not over.

Gordon_J - nice pics, link works fine. Thanks for sharing them.

Don't worry about winning the league. Worry about winning the match. Just win the next match, and the plaudits will come ...

What happened to the water cannons?

I know it is ancient history, but does anybody remember the witch-hunt for the daft wee boy who impersonated an aeroplane?

I know it is ancient history, but does anybody remember the witch-hunt for all the Manchester louts?

How, and why, the league was lost:

3-in-a-row. Yes please, with cream on top....

Have a good weekend CQNrs, am off to Embra ken, eh? for a celebratory BBQ.

MMC

My first chance to blog-in this week.

The death of Tommy Burns is a great tragedy and at such a young age. Tommy was a great Celt in every regard. As a player he had a prodigious left-foot, a great tactical awareness and a love of our Club which seeped out of every pore in his body. He was never afraid: I remember him scoring two goals in a replayed cup-tie at Firhill in the first twenty minutes and then take the lonely walk for the early bath for thumping the giant Colin McAdam. As a manager he re-invigorated Celtic and got the whole organisation, down to the 15 year olds, playing football “the Celtic way”. He laid down the basis for much of which followed. His love of the Club was such that he came back to a lesser role than he had previously had and made it work. I will miss Tommy Burns the football man who lived his life in an openly Catholic manner. His Faith was key to him and I frequently used to meet him when he was a player at Mass in the Cathedral at lunchtime. All my thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.

Tommy died of Melanoma, the most malignant form of cancer of the skin. This cancer is very curable if caught at an early stage but can be very difficult to cure if caught later.

Melanoma is increasingly common in Scotland and the biggest risk factor is intense sun exposure. Light-skinned Scots, who remain well wrapped-up all year round and then head of to sunny climes for the Fair, strip off and get sun-burn all over, are those at the highest risk of this disease. In fact, what is known as the Celtic-phenotype (red hair, light skin, freckles and blue eyes) is a recognised indicator of high-risk and very special care needs to be taken in the sun.

Sun screen, no matter how strong, does not protect against Melanoma since such use has been shown to extend the time spent in hot sunshine and the sunblocks used are unable to prevent the damaging ultra-violet rays reaching the skin. Despite what the manufacturers say, the use of Artificial Tanning Parlours increases the risk of Melanoma particularly if used before the age of 30 years of age. Younger people are much more susceptible to the adverse effects of sunlight, both real and artificial.

One positive thing which could come out of the sad, premature death of Tommy Burns, would be if we would all take steps to ensure that we reduce the risk of contracting this disease by taking care of ourselves and our children in the sun and by avoiding artificial tanning. Never worry about consulting your doctor if you notice a change in your skin particularly if you have an existing mole which changes shape or starts to bleed. It could save your life.

Thanks!

Rarely disagree with your take on things, BUT Gordon Strachan is staying. He has started a project and it has taken three years to actually get us to a baseline of youth at all levels.

The selective introduction of experience coupled with the maturing of those already in the team and pipeline will see leaps and bounds of improvement.

This is his ambition and this is what he will be remembered for.

We haven't won this league yet (the scars of 2005 persist) but if and when we do, watch us go>

Thursday is for Tam. Thursday is for us. Thursday is for the media. But most of all Thursday is for Gordon and the players who have never given up!

Gordon_J

Thanks for the photos.

The shirts from the players were magnificent.

That's a big result today no doubt, but I'm trying not to get carried away until I see the score on Monday night. I'm still worried that they will find the minimum 8 goals required to overtake our goal difference (I know it's 7 just now but I'm basing it on us winning by one).

I just hope last Sundays shocking decision to disallow Skippys goal is not a crucial one.

I feel strange, trying not to get too carried away.

HAIL HAIL

I'm taking nothing for granted - we still have a big week ahead but after the emotions of the last few days I just had a wee thought that made me smile.

It was a mental picture of Tommy and Phil watching today's game and Tommy saying to Phil: "And they think THEY have the higher authorities on their side".

Well done Motherwell. All Phil would have asked for was to try your hardest.

And now we have to do our part .

This sums up my feelings today perfectly! Had to tweak the lyrics a tad to make it fit but I always did love this song!

First timer poster but massive fan of CQN.

Absolutely delighted by today's events at Motherwell and at last they got their just deserts for being so defensive....a point that didn't escape the METRO this week in it's criticism of how ITV portrayed the UEFA cup final.

"ITV's assumption most viewers wanted THEM to win did disservice to the many hoping a team who showed initiative and invention would see off one whose idea of attacking ambition was to win a throw-in in their opponents' half." - Enough said!!!

Let's hope we show that same initiative and invention on Thursday night and wrap up 3 in a row...just wish it could have been 8...with those 2 great missed opportunities on the last day!!

Hail Hail

kano,

You're welcome. The whole display is such a great tribute to the man, but the obvious respect he had from the players really does shine through.

Does anyone think Gers will get an easy ride at Pittodrie?

Never an easy place to go in my reckoning at any time......the sheepie's will be aware of the chance to get one over a team they strongly dislike (hate?)....but will they have the players to go out an win after one or two have gone as there loan spell is up?
On there day they can take points off either of the old firm .

We've both tough away ties and Gers heading north possibly feeling tired and sorry for themselves will I'm sure worry Walter......as will a potential banana skin at Love Street.

Just as long as we do our selves justice and win 3 green-white and golden points come thursday!!

A 2 goal victory or less and I will be a very happy man on Monday night.

HAIL HAIL

Gordon j...2:58...

Really appreciate the pics... as we miss a lot down here...

o1bhoy

Sorry got my 08s and 07s mixed up.

My point was: how easy it would have been to give up in March; how handily the fixtures fell for Rangers - just one more bad day for us in that 99-day spell and we'd have been too far behind

Gordon J

Do you have a link to the pictures of the players tops? I have only seen them on SNSPIX and cannot read what was written on them by the players.

Wow

That was hard to watch!

Lets win it for TB on Thursday.

KEEP THE FAITH!!

Ulysses

Entabled?

Another great word.

Can anyone help me here?

I've been looking for an updated SPL table but I cannot find one. The BBC sites seem to be out of commission.

Many thanks if someone can post an updated table here. Just to see if my smile can get any bigger.

BTW I've just seen a "And Kanu must score" moment. Should lead to someone asking "Gordon Smith, I wonder where he is now?"

Does anyone know anywhere in Oswesrty/Wrexham I could watch the game thursday?

geebee1978,

Couldn't agree more.

I, like many others, have been critical of some of our performances and tactics over the last year, and held WGS responsible. However, equally he has to be praised to the high heavens for our upturn in fortunes.

Our recent run, regardless of the outcome, has been remarkable and has shown that WGS has a huge drive for success and, the ability to fight through adversity. In addition, his press conference on Thursday was truly touching and was an indication of how he feels for our great club.

He is one of us.

A few tweeks, as you suggested, is all that we require. Quality CB, quality LB and a quality CF and we won't be far from being quite a decent team.

I'm looking forward to Monday now as I have a sneaky feeling St Mirren could do us a turn.

Another wee thought, if we win this league, and Rangers get booted out of Europe, then does that mean we might very well scoop 12 million big ones.

Then if Artur goes (and I hope he doesn’t) then that would be 12 million more.

And then if DD took the chastity of the purse that could very well be another 12 million more.

That would give wee Gordon a ‘War Chest’ of 36 million quid. 36 BIG ONES.

I know, I know it is all hypothetical, but has anybody got a spare towel I could borrow to wipe the slavers of my chin?

Estadio,

For once in my life,I will be over the moon if I am wrong.

I hope I am,a great deal.

But when the decision is made,it will be Gordon's.

And he values his life away from this.

I have heard this first hand.

But then again, for being a single minded wee git,he has been known to change track, more than once.

I really hope he puts his single mindedness into us.

We are the ones who will benefit.

It is just hard for a lot of people to see in the present.

Despite unprecedented success.

I meant to add that in the very unlikely event if anyone has a spare for Thursday night then I could alleviate their problem of having a spare!

To anyone looking for spare Phil O'Donnell tickets I may have one or two but I don't know for sure yet. My bhoys have something on that day and my aunt has bought them tickets. I will post on here as soon as I know for sure one way or the other.

Inkybhoy

That's my pet hate.

'Self confessed'.

You 'confess' to something you ought to be ashamed of.

Admit to something which is wrong.

You know the kind of thing, chasing policemen, wrecking cars, invading city centres, stabbibg folk. That sort of thing.

You 'PROFESS' something of which you are proud.

So why would Mark McGhee (aka Mr. Punch) ever, in his whole life, even when diving in a cup final to get big Roy sent off, 'confess' to being a Celtic man.

No excuse for bad grammar I say.

I also blame Catholic education............for making us cleverer than them.

Estadio,

turn it into Tommy Park.

larkin1907 and Kano....

I know there have been people here who have supported him through thick and thin and you'll be entitled to feel smug though no more ecstatic than any other Celt if we win the title....

....however, some other names on this blog are conspicuous by their absence right now. Names who were first on the blog after a poor Celtic or decent Rangers result. Names who should be the first here now to admit that they may have been wrong and how happy they'd be to be proven wrong.

I won't hold my breath....

porridgeandbananas - I could be interested in one. Posted a couple od times previously that I was looking for one for a 7 year old Boltonian who has grown to know and love Celtic through me. I'd love to give him the CP experience and he'd like to pay his respects to both Phil and Tommy and welcome home 3 in a row. Paul67 has my email address.

Ktalba,

THREE big ones.

THREE big ones.

Whatever chest is there,is of Gordon's making.

He should get the pleasure, and I get the feeling that the hierarchy are hoping he does.

To those predicting a Rangers avalanche on Monday night, remember that St. Mirren players had to cancel their holiday due to the huns. I think and hope that they may just want to stick it to them for one last time this season!

Cyrlu

porridgeandbananas - that should have said a 71 year old Boltonian!!!

To all the doubters (that includes myself) I think we all need to learn this lesson......

....Oh the shark babe has such pretty teeth, dear
And he shows them pearly white
Just a jack knife has ol’ MacHeath, babe
And he keeps it out of sight

You know when that shark bites with his teeth, dear
Scarlet billows start to spread
Fancy gloves though wears ol’ MacHeath, babe
So there's never, never a trace of red

On the sidewalk, Oh Sunday morning don’t you know
Lies a body just oozing life
And Someone's sneaking around the corner
Could that be our bhoy Mack the knife?

From a tug boat down by the river don’t you know
Lays a cement bag just dropping on down
That’s cement's there, it’s there for the weight, dear
I’ll get you ten ol’ Macky is back in town

Did you hear bout Louie Miller? He disappeared, babe
After drawing out all his hard earned cash
And know MacHeath spends, he spends just like a, like a sailor
Could it be, could it be, our bhoy did something rash?

To all those that miss Tommy the most remember that as a club we dont care if we win lose or draw just as long as we´re there and for all I know that if there´s going to be a show then the GLASGOW CELTIC THE GLASGOW CELTIC WILL BE THERE

So many Twists and Turns in this title race .... rock on Tommy
