Two more mountains for Celtic to climb

| | Comments (262)

If ever there was ever a demonstration of the post-adrenalin crash in football it was yesterday.  Six days earlier Celtic beat Rangers, coming from behind to do so for the first time in 15 years, but as you watched Motherwell surge forward yesterday, in wave after wave of attack, you would not recognise the team in hoops.

Football is not a purely athletic endeavour, it takes creativity, which itself requires the brain as well as the body to be in the zone.

The collective Celtic brain was not there yesterday, although it is interesting that a surge of adrenalin after Motherwell opened the scoring brought McGeady, Hartley, Nakamura and McDonald together to equalise; I hoped that the buzz would remain, but it disappeared as soon as quickly as it arrived.

Motherwell lost because Celtic's athletic endeavour persisted and the home team's debutant goalkeeper proved not to be Mark McGee's best managerial choice; but that's history now.  Celtic left with all three points, their fifth consecutive win on the bounce.

Two more mountains to climb.

you gave me a mountain to climb

Bhoy4life (from previous thread)

Any chance of you posting a link for the photo of the Pope wearing an Artur Boruc T-shirt?

This I would like to see!!

Up the Everton ladies! (See my comment towards the end of my last thread for clarification...)

The result was more important than the display alough the number of squeaky bum endings to games is getting beyond the joke, I've has to spend a small fortune on Vaseline!

Hopefully the Hibees can do us a huge favour ............ huns with European fatigue maybe?

Mon the Hoops, glory awaits, fortune favours the brave, we have nothing to lose except ....................

I don't really agree that it was the old "adrenaline crash". That might apply mid-season when the next game seems anti-climactic or even when playing a midweek game just a few days later. But a full week after the match with the sense that the league could be won, I don't think those factors apply.

I do think that Celtic are sometimes too "composed" when we need more players to be like Barry Robson.

I also think our first goal came partly from Motherwell switching off and allowing us space because they forgot the golden rule about keeping it together for 5 mins after scoring.

However, the pitch and the fact that Mark McGhee surprised us with his tactics were more important factors, in my opinion.

Paul

Sultana's pundits (as much as I saw of them) steered clear of mentioning that ML1ers were posted missing in defence for our 2 goals - especially Samaras's.

They were not so vague in regards to Bombscare's postioning for their goal.

If only we'd taken 9 from them...

Ah well - Onwards Celtic there's much work to be done.

u

Not sure if this has been discussed, but according to The Sunday Times the SPL have written to Celtic to complain about Artur's 'irresponsible behaviour'. Celtic must publically seek clarity about this allegation. FIFA's regulations about religious slogans is also mentioned which we do have to accept.

Paul67...

For the same reason i fancy the orcs to not defend as well today... Hibs to score 2 or 3 if only they can keep it tight at the back... Thats a big IF...

3-3...

McGhee for Celtic if WGS does a runner?
We could do a lot worse, I think he would be good for us - hard as nails and with NL beside him I think we would do well.
Tactitcally he seems to know what is required and he has an eye for a bargain player too. I also get the feeling he hates the soap dodgers.
Interesting to read Naka's comments in The Herlad about NL's influence in the dressing room and his powers of insilling confidence - in Naka's case grabbbing by the lapels before the soap dodgers game and telling this is his game.
Has WGS lost his motivational powers?

anyone know what time the r****s game kicks off? as much as i try to ignore it, i find myself strumming my fingers in hope they might drop points today...

tend to agree with the adrenalin thing.

great result against rangers 2-1

poor performance against aberdeen

great result against rangers 3-2

poor performance against motherwell

if only we could play the huns every week

then maybe not ‹(•¿•)›

Bryce Curdy: This "FIFA regulations" approach was put on the agenda by PA Scotland. Notably, no title has suggested sanctions against Rangers for any breaches of FIFA or UEFA regulations by their staff or supporters.

benjybhoy: Why don't we talk about the next Celtic manager after our current manager has left rather than speculate on Gordon Strachan's future at this stage of the season?

Alan, KO in 5 mins

If Rangers happen to win today, let's not go jumping out of any windows. Assuming we can win our two remaining games, they have to win 5 from 6. That is a big ask at this time of the season, especially when they are running on nothing more than adrenaline...

Let's keep ourselves focussed. Their situation will take care of itself.

commnetator going on about a unique quadruple!

scott booth seems to have rediscovered his enthusiasm
sadly missing yesterday

cheers for that cadizzy.

can't help feeling like i'm tempting fate by keeping an eye out for their result. even being over here in thailand doesn't dampen the nerves.
i left work early last night to dash home for the game v motherwell. i was getting really worried after they scored, in fact even after we went 2-1 up i was still keeching it.

it never lets go does it, this celtic thing...!!

alan

Hibs incorrectly flagged offside.. would have been 1 on 1..

hibs through on goal - offside (NOT)

This is a very young Hibs side 8 under 24yrs but they have a bit of pace...This could tell with 3 up front...

o1bhoy

One Star Means More on May 4, 2008 1:55 PM ,

Absolutely 100% right, it's not post match analysis on WGS that we need it should be post season!

gsu

hibs in the ascendancy in the first the ten minutes

i felt yesyerdays game had 0-0 written all over it, but when motherwell scored it gave celtic the kick up the jacksy that they needed. the game badly needed a goal or a bad tackle to get the players going thankfully we got over the latest hurddle and continue with hope in our hearts

BBC website has 63% possession to Hibs.

Looks like another fine example of anti-football going by the highlights on BBC website -

14:39
Attacking throw-in by Kirk Broadfoot (Rangers).

14:01
Defending throw-in by Kevin McCann (Hibernian).

13:47
Defending throw-in by Kevin McCann (Hibernian).

13:26
Attacking throw-in by Sasa Papac (Rangers).

13:14
Attacking throw-in by Kevin Thomson (Rangers).

12:42
Defending throw-in by Kevin McCann (Hibernian).

12:16
Goal kick taken long by Neil Alexander (Rangers).

11:23
Goal kick taken long by Andrew McNeil (Hibernian).

11:06
Shot by Nacho Novo (Rangers) left-footed from left channel (25 yards), over the bar.

10:36
Foul by Ian Murray (Hibernian) on Barry Ferguson (Rangers). Indirect free kick taken right-footed by Kevin Thomson (Rangers) from left channel, passed.

10:18
Attacking throw-in by John Rankin (Hibernian).

0-0 will do fine.

Setanta at it again, hibs wrongly called offside, the croker guy immedidately mentions Celtic have had plenty of decisions in their favour recently.
The famine song and the big lie getting belters, nice way to celebrate your team reaching a euro final.
Pond life..

At christening with WG . Any good news welcome from Leith

Lynot67: They are worse than that - and so are those in the media who listen to this and ignore it while blaring out accusations against Celtic and Artur Boruc.

Lynott67...

I expected them to have some gimmick to celebrate Manchester...Flat Caps...Black Puddings or something...

Sadly to say i seen a few BALLOONS in the crowd with a photo on them...I think they had these at Parkhead...

o1bhoy

first 25 has that familiar look

huns no shots on target

hibs still probing

even a huns throw in is more often than not a foul

cousin (the poor relation) dwells in the box inviting a tackle that never came

great ball in by morais alexander flaps - no takers

o1bhoy-
I expect manchester to be turned into a massive orange walk for the day.
I think the authorities also realise this, hence no big screens and dont come without a ticket ..coz no one does like you and your not welcome here.

Hi Paul67,

Before I say anything else I'd like to apologize to you personally for comparing the site to Follow Follow, you did not deserve that comparison the two sites aren't the same. On F.F I lasted a couple of days before realizing I had nothing in common with the views and outlook of the posters, I didn't share their hatred or their contempt for others, the comparison was wrong and although I posted in anger that doesn't excuse the slur on you, from what I have come to know of you I think you would close the site down before letting it become that kind of cesspit. I hope my apology will be accepted and any offense caused to you will be forgiven. I would also like to extend the same apology to the large majority of posters on this site who are in no way like those I compared you with.

I had every intention of staying away from the site until a phone call from a well know poster on here asked me to look in at the many posts that had been made in support of me, when I did this I was (though perhaps shouldn't have been) surprised that not only did they come from folk I have come to know but also from many that I've never had any interaction with, daft and soppy as it may sound I found them quite touching. I offer every one of you who made a post, e-mailed me or called me my sincere and genuine thanks. You have shown me that I was wrong and reminded me why I found this site to be such a good one in the first place.

As far as the haters and bigots on the site go, as has been pointed out to me, you are in a minority and a mirror image of those you profess to hold in contempt however that says far more about you than it does about me. I may be accused of being a hypocrite for posting again after my previous remarks but as several folk have pointed out to me, why should I cut myself off from so many folk that I enjoy cross posting and talking with, to do so is to pander to the minority and that would be cutting off my nose to spite my face. Those who feel I shouldn't be on here or who have no wish to converse with me, fair enough, scroll past my posts or if I address a post to you directly simply say you would rather not get into conversation with me, that way we can all continue to enjoy what in my opinion is the finest football blog on the net.

To the rest of you on here I look forward to continuing our good-natured hostilities on subjects as diverse as football, politics, philosophy, geographical location, music, beer and even the one that surprised me when I found myself enjoying it, the swapping of Latin puns. Hopefully this will continue for a long time into the future.

welcome back Ed

Edward

Welcome back.

Swanseabhoy

Edward Ursus

Good man

JVOH67

HAIL HAIL

Edward, I've never had any conversations with you online, in fact I missed the conversation you are apologising about, but this blog would be all the poorer for your absence.

Edward -

Welcome back, we did miss you.

Lycru

PS Where's P8ddy?

A bit Celtic welcome back Edward.

However on saying that, half time and it's still 0-0 - come on Hibs!

big, even.....

Welcome back Mr. Ursus.

Now I hope that the next 60 mins are torture for you!

Alasdair

Welcome back to the CQN Exile, hope it's a good omen Ed :-)

Ed

Hope your team gets humped:)

JVOH67

0-0 at HT, Hibs not playing too badly. Have had one or two half chances.
Edward welcome back. Will you be going to Manchester?

Only one thing worse than Edward not posting on CQN, is the thought of him promising to post more Latin puns.

Welcome to Edward.

No bigots here even if they say they are Celtic supporters.

this could be a tale of two dodgy keepers.

unfortunately i reckon mcneil is the dodgier of the two, and i hope the hibs defence keep
him protected.

i imagine the orcs will up their game in the second half, (they have to)

oh dear celtic watching rangers today, what negligence in allowing them this giddy height

Welcome back EU

Now, can I be the first to start up the chant

"If you hate Edward Ursus, clap your hands!" :-)

Edward
I don't know you nor have we ever indulged in any conversation on this site.
I have however, read most of your posts and found them to be interesting, even if i don't agree with them!
I'm unaware of any previous comments that were insulting or derogatory so having just read your previous post i now realise why you've been posted missing for a while. I assumed it was because of the two games between our teams. I'd have been the same - i'd have avoided any place where i knew i'd be slagged or mocked.
It does seem though that that wasn't the reason for your absence.

Glad that you're back and continuing to post and I'm sure the morons who mock and make contemptuous comments are in the minority.

I still hope your team gets stuffed today though!!
Cheers
D

Ed, you see? Can't be bad following in the footsteps of Sinatra. Welcome back. Your team's been mince in the first half btw.

Edward

Welcome back. The blog wasnt the same without your input.

Ed, unaware of the controversy that led to today's post and apology but I've always found you to a man of good character and fair mind. Glad to hear you will still be posting.

What

Ed?

You were away?

Hmm

Can't say as I've noticed...

Insert wry smiling emoticon here __________

I suppose there's only so many days you can sit playing the banjo wondering what we're all up to...

Welcome back Cletus.

Ed-
Good to see you back on.
I had to text a couple of mates to say well done getting to the final.
I can assure you it wasnt easy.
As much as i despise Rangers fc and all that it stands for it wouldnt stop me having a pint
with some good mates of that persuasion.
There is some good guys amongst you even if it is a minority.
Hope your team never win another game though
Welcome back.
Lynott67

Welcome back Ed... still hope your rotten mob drop soemthing today..

EU -

You have mail.

If we win this league by proxy, nothing can be taken away from Celtic.

If we win this league by proxy it’ll be because we, (CELTIC), accrued more points over the course of a season than any of those teams competing in the same competition.

If we win this league by proxy, a proxy that has previous, Gordon Strachan, along with Celtic will live long in the record books.

If we win this league by proxy some amongst us are going to be skint; faithfully as well as financially.

If we win this league by proxy there is something almost ‘just’ about it.

Here’s to every team Rangers have to play. Here’s to PROXY.

Edward

the only way to bridge the divide is through words.

I'm glad your holiday was a short one.

From one Republican to another... I hope your team get royally humped. :-)

tell me edward what did you say that was so awful i missed it and nice to hear someone admit their mistake that shows strenght of character

Ted, welcome back from a reborn nafos and WG

Welcome back Green Bear!

Heavy legs comin up around 60-65 mins, Hibbies gotta just keep em runnin......C'mon the green n whites!

PS Big thankyou to Frank McGarvey at last nights Largs CSC dance, after winning a signed Skippy top,in the raffle kindly auctioned the top for charity.. well done the wee man still a legend ..

Ted
Was it my vision of you in Purgatory, forced to watch reruns of the Demolition Derby, The Humping, The Whitewash, the last two games at CP and the Fiorentina game up to Barry's penalty that proved the tipping point?

Welcome home in time to help us prepare for the title celebrations. :-)

'GG

Ed, we've never exchanged views online, at least I think not, but welcome back all the same.

However with the new site going live, I'm sure there have been instances of lurkers picking up and using some of the better known user names. So just to make sure this is really you, I have few questions on Rangers history for you....

1. What was the score in Martin O'Neill's first Celtic/Rangers match?

2. In the last Celtic/ Rangers match in season 78/79, Rangers took a 2-1 lead, what was the final score?

3. How many goals did Lubo Moravcik score in his first Celtic/Rangers game and what was the final score?

All the best, nice to see you back.

Ed

I very rarely post but lurk almost full-time. I always enjoy reading you counter-weight viewpoint. Perspective is always valuable. Also you seem a throughly decent fella so it would have been a shame for you to quit the site altogether.

Like a few of the others I missed the incident that led you to stop posting. I have to say (after some furtive lurking) comparing to CQN to Follow-Follow was wrong, plain and simple. Glad you saw sense when you calmed down. It's also impressive you had the bottle to apologise for it.

Remember: bigots on both sides. We can't let the bad guys win.

I also hope your team get mullered today ;) But that's rivalry for you!!

As it stands in the Champioship with 45mins to go...

QPR 0-0 West Brom (West Brom Champions)...
Stoke 0-0 Leiceter (Stoke Promoted)...
Southampton 1-1 Sheffield Utd (Southampton Relegated)...
Arsenal 0-0 Everton (72mins)...

o1bhoy

Welcome back ED, hope your team get pumped today

Hail hail

...and you're right about that other site Ed. Under a thread about Manchester's lack of enthusiasm for the coming blue invasion, one wag posted:

F**** them and their bead-rattling police chief.

They are indeed 'ra peepil'

Edward U
You and I have never interacted in any way, in fact this is my first post on this blog but as a long, long time lurker I have followed your posts, thoughts and insights very closely and I can tell you the blog would most definately be poorer for your absence. Welcome back.
There are many things that we undoubtedly differ on, your choice of football club for example, but I am also sure that we have much in common too, such as America's fine export that you enjoy from time to time!
I always want your team to lose that's the nature of sports rivalry (hell I even dislike the Lone Ranger)but do not allow those with extreme views to stop your contributions to the site.
Happy Sunday

ugly betty booked.

Paul - isnt that a 3 match ban now?

teddybear

I'm glad that you are back posting.
Sometimes it shows a strength of character to go back on a stance.

I am praying your team get Donald Ducked today.

Hail! Hail!

Welcome back Edward

To everyone/Anyone
A friend of mine (same as me passionate Celtic fan) got 2 tickets for the Uefa Cup final from Uefa via Uefa ballot one of his friends is taking one of the tickets and he may have someone else taking the other ticket however he thinks the other person wont be taking the ticket basically to cut a long story short all he wants for the ticket (if it is available) is face value ( £95 ) plus a donation of £ 100 to the celtic charity fund made out in the form of a cheque made payable to the Celtic charity fund so Edward or anyone else that knows a rangers fan if interested let me know as I say it is hypothetical at the moment but keep it in mind Ed or anyone that knows a rangers fan.

Hun goal by Cousin disallowed offside. Correct decision.

Scott Boof = gutted.

"The ball was going in anyway"

Welcome back Edward.
No place for bigots here although listening on my radio as I hear Derry's Walls blasting out over the commentators voice there is no shortage of them at Easter Road, still 0 - 0.

Welcome back Edward!!

Didn't get the chance myself to post my regret at your decision to leave us but have since read the many and genuine posts made on here voicing their support for you and urging you to reconsider.

I hope you will quickly realise that you made the right choice in coming back "home"!.

Reading through the comments posted it's very obvious that you've built up some great relationships with a great many of the regular and long time posters on here - all of us,yourself included, would have been the worse for your having "upped sticks" and sailed off into the sunset.

Hopefully we can continue to cross "cyber" swords for many years to come!

Mantime - Mon the Hibees !! Onwards to 3 in a row!!

Hibs player flaged offside when two yards on...Booth '' not really sure if the hibs player was offside there''

Paul67 - after his sending off at celtic park you said cuellar was a bookin away from a 3 match ban.

can you confirm this? As he has been booked today!

That passage of "play" from Anti-Football Inc. had me thinking I am watching a game down the road at Murrayfield for a second. A huge GarryOwen (c)B.McLaren punt up the park followed by the charge of the hun brigade taking out everything in sight man, ball, bone, blood.

Outrageous dive in the box by Novo. No card.

A taste of things to come? Is a hun get out of jail free penalty in the offing?

Hi Ed Ted,

I havn’t had as much time as would have liked to spend here on CQN, and therefore missed out on your absence, (which I didn’t really since I wasn’t here), but don’t do that again.
You’re needed here much more than you imagine.

A 'cut and paste' from the BBC website today:

'And with Rangers threw to the Uefa and Scottish Cup finals and still chasing the SPL title, Cuellar is aiming to add to the League Cup medal he won in March'.

How standards have fallen!

Champions often score late goals that win matches.

Just check out how often goals are scored towards the end of each half by championship winning teams.

I hope Hib's are the champions of Easter Road today.

Novo dived in the box twice in last 5 mins....

Scott Booth's silence was deafening !

Anti-football by the experts no.278 Sasa Papic - You can get awat with blatantly obstructing an opponent as long as you do a wee tumble yourself you'll get the free-kick.

Another laughable penalty claim by Novo.

Is it not in the rules that they have to get every third claim?

Talking of outrageous dives and cheats, Boyd about to come on.

Anti-Football for experts no.279 Barry Squarebaw - After blatantly bodychecking an opponent shout and bawl out the referee waving arms indignantly and you might intimidate the ref into not giving any more fouls against your side. As captain of Rankers and some sort of semi-deity you run absolutely no risk of suffering the yellow card that would be automatically dished out to mere mortals.

Boof "There was nothing in that"
