Tannadice return for Celtic

| | Comments (357)
A return to Tannadice so soon after our historic league win in May will be a sentimental journey for Celtic fans but Dundee United proved a difficult enough challenge then and will be no easier tomorrow.
A the risk of sounding like a broken record, central midfield is the key areas for Celtic; the Brown-Hartley partnership was energetic enough last week, but seemed blunt in the face of an equally industrious St Mirren.

Marc Crosas will travel with the team and possibly make his second Tannadice appearance in a month after helping Barcelona to a preseason win and after impressing in training I am sure he will give Gordon Strachan a difficult decision to make.  Pitching a 20-year-old straight into the side one week after he arrived in Scotland is not something I would recommend under normal circumstances, but with Barry Robson likely to remain wide on the right, a change in the middle could be crucial to Celtic's chances of collecting three points.

After over a year of trauma, the closing six months of last season produced six clean sheets away from home for Celtic, culminating in that visit to Tanandice; I'll be delighted if Celtic can start our away campaign with another clean sheet in the hope that they have finally overcome the vulnerability.

Gold?

Bronze maybe

Ohhhh,so close,Silver will do!

At 1st time of trying, I don't believe it.

I'd just like to say thanks to the backroom staff, the groundsman, the catering staff, the fans and my team mates. It is only with their help I've achieved this. And at 1t time of asking I can retire.

Hail Hail 4IAR

Imagine that, Lawwell coming in second! does not happen very often! second to a Timmy though :)

Lawwell on the podium turns to his right and thrusts out the hand of congratulations to BJ and to his left to KiwiBhoy, well done lads, sterling work.

I was last on the last thread...absolutely delighted!!

Left-Back is a definite priority.

What I cannot understand is, we know Naylor is looking for a return to England for personal reasons, yet there does not seem to be any talk of him moving anywhere. Paul67, has his situation changed?

Even if he stays, and I would be happy if he did as he is a good squad player, we still need a LB. The Silvestre loan deal floated today would be tempting, but its probably crap.

Paul67:

Any score at all - as long as we take the points - will do me.

Re: Craig Levein, I was away when I think he went in front of the powers that be.

Did he get a touchline ban or anything or is his case still ongoing?

Does anybody know if Dundee United sold the full allocation of away fans briefs.

since the beginning of the millenium celtic have played at tannadice 13 times in the league winning 12 drawing 1 and losing none.

Ulster-Celt

oisin71, 11:05, it is early yet to s suitor to bid for Lee, but there is no firm interest at this time.

Kitalba, Levein was fined £5k.

Ulster-celt, good stat.

kitalba

well pal???

CL got a £5000 fine

unsure if he appealed it ...was ceratinly hoping that he would

re briefs i`ve no idea ...a few bhoys did report having no bother sourcing tickets

btw i left WDH`s wallet intact ...cheeky boy :¬)

Greetings Paul67,

You owe my machine a new Accurate Reliable Search Educator (ARSE)blinking knob Paul67 after I endevoured to research the term "Tanks at Ibrox" in the reality frame of Aug 2008. On input, the blinking knob exploded in a dazzling display whereupon my machine ground to a shuttering emergency versedump. Thanks for that Paul67, you try hanging about the voidverse without a "Radio". Thankfully though I remembered to pack my Secret Handheld Overunity Robust Temporary Accurate Reliable Search Educator (SHORTARSE) device. Excellant news to bring you Paul67. I have indeed found a reference to "Tanks at Ibrox" but not in your current frame. The information my always accurate machine informs me is that in July 2013, after another heavy CL elimination by newly formed Lichtenstein team FC Schellperdehunos at home "Tanks" are brought in after the fulltime "Whistle" to crush the rampaging crybaby's. This event, known as "The Cleansing of Glasgow" results in the termination of 15000 of the hunnish elite forces. It should have been 500000 but accurate information on numbers seem to have been corrupted by "Redtop" disinformation, there is reference though to a 35000 hun race down "Edminston Drive" involving said "Tanks" whereupon "Edminston Drive's" long overdue repaving problem is finally overcome.

Edward, Congrats on your good news!

Ulster-Celt, I know we have a great record at tannadice, however I always get nervous when these stats are brought. I know I shouldn't and I know it doesn't make sense, but I always think they're due a win.

Heres for the lucky 13th win this millennium.

ED
all the best pal

congrats

I'm conscious that my complaint yesterday that the new signings amount to no more than bench warmers at best might seem to contradict my earlier posts that the present team are capable enough. The root of my frustration is and always has been the style of play and tactics.

I hope that Crosas does play, although I've not seen him yet. The reason? At Barca, players are taught to pass and move - constantly. At Lennoxtown, if such a basic grasp of the game is instructed, then it appears largely forgotten by matchday.

Get the ball on the ground, pass it, move into space for the return. Do not launch to JVoH/MacDonald. Let's see some cutting, exciting and ultimately incisive football. Sure, we want to win 4 in a row. But I also want to win at Ibrox and succeed in Project CLAW. The tactics of the last 2 seasons have achieved SPL success (due in no small part to the disorganisation of rivals) but the prospects of Ibrox success and CLAW have remained static or diminished. So, please (and for the sake of those who enjoy entertaining football) let's change it tomorrow.

Paul et al

Does the under 21 rule for subs only apply to home grown talent or does Crosas qualify?

BJ

Paul. I hope your wrong about Barry Robson remaining out wide. He was the driving force of the midfield towards the end of last season and should be the No 1 pick for the central berth.
He's wasted on the wing.

Lochmoybhoy

Agree 100%, Scott Brown's indiscipline was instrumental in us winning the title. I still have high hopes for Brown, but don't believe Robson should lose his central midfield spot.

malceye

that would be a refreshing change

and it may well be that a passing /moving midfielder could be the key

i believe that Naka is a big loss ...he is back in the squad ...the addition of both may help

it would mean dropping two from Robson/Hartley/Brown

unless of course we play one upfront....WGS doesn`t seem to have any interest in this however

PF Ayr

I don't have any interest playing 1 up front in the SPL either. Haven't we all critised the huns for doing this over the past season, we should be playing 2 up or do a Hamilton Accies with 3 up for all SPL matches.

PF ayr.

Have you looked at your racing post yet,I see the Irish Mafia have a horse running in the Newmarket,3.30 race, could you have a look at the race and come back with an opinion, exhibitions the name of the horse and it's 20/1.

malceye

totally agree 100%. I'm a glass half full Celtic fan but if I have one area of critcism it's the style of football we've played on too many occasions in the last few years.

The main problem (as I see it) is lack of movement off the ball. Not sure why such a basic rule of the game seems to be beyond many good players at Celtic on many occasions but it does need addressed.

Not sure if it's formations (other teams play good attacking football with 4-4-2), coaching (Strachan does seem to be a good coach in many ways so I doubt it's all down to him, the players (the players are good at plenty of other things so this shouldn't be beyond them!)

Anyway, I see Strachan mentions the problem with passing and movement in a quote today, so here's hoping it's a priority to sort out.

I firmly believe a midfield of Naka, Crosas, McGeady and AN Other could help a lot

Snippet in the Daily Ranger (my wife buys it despite my displeasure - or maybe because of my displeasure) about Bobo not being able to agree personal terms with Wolves. They never end do they, no quotes from anyone.

the manager makes a good point regarding the cost of buying an automatic first team player...when you are already a good team, statistically one of the top 16 in Europe, but realistically definitely in the top 25, then thats confirmation we have good players on board already

to be guaranteed a better player tha naylor, i suspect we would have to spend £5 million...the alternative is to spend under £3 million on someone who has talent, is young enough to improve and can put pressure on lee to get back to season 1 form or show himself up so well in training that he forces his way into the team

i can't see any other way of improving the first team without spending money we don't have

if you compare that to the situation across the city

they can spend relatively modest sums on players and improve the team

some of their players are so average that improving on them is no difficult task

in reality how hard is it to improve on

Adam : Novo : Weir: Dailly : D'Archeville: Broadfoot

One final point on the Cuellar saga

Rangers have been tracking Loovens and trying to sign him all summer. He was the centre half they saw next to Cuellar. Webster had been signed as back up, Weir offered a new contract as back up and Broadfoot was also around as back up as was Dailly.

On July 31st Rangers signed Bougherra, in such a haste that the player himself was on the point of signing with WBA , at that point they had 6 Centre Backs on the books and were attempting to sign a seventh in Loovens

Yet we are asked to believe that on the 10th August, completely out of the blue Rangers were stunned by Cuellars desire to invoke a clause no-one had ever previously mentioned. Cuellars agents statements at season end 2007 also very strongly indicated there was no such release clause, he was quoted as saying Rangers had to decide if any bid they received for Cuellar was acceptable to them.

My view is that Rangers always planned to sell Cuellar, knew he wanted to go and had a good indication there was a buyer on July 31st, at which point they signed his replacement.

Murray watching has always been interesting because he consistently contradicts statements he made in the recent past. When you add that to a press pack in full spin mode, then there is a huge opportunity to enjoy watching moonbeams come crashing to earth with a resounding thud

I have no idea how Rangers 2 most recent signings will perform, but from what i have read , I should be expecting blue jersied versions of Fabregas and Makalele

The facts are they have signed a young boy, who spent almost all of last season on the bench for a provincial greek team who lost more games than they won in finishing 10th in the Greek League. Mendes is a Portsmouth reserve, who again spent most of last season on the bench or not even in the squad.

They may turn out to be resounding successes or they may turn out to be Namouchi and Emerson part 2

y Paul67Author Profile Page on August 16, 2008 9:34 AM

Bhoy_Molloy, you are correct that clubs do their homework, but sometimes that homework turns up a reason to walk away – as it did with our search for a centre half.

Paul67

Please explain the Loovens signing. £3m for an out of contract championship player who has already been told he will not split the McManus Caldwell partnership.

How does this fit the financial prudence from the SSM and the statement from Strachan that only players who will improve the team will be signed or can we now assume that this is/was a very loose statement which is open to interpretation?

The lad Loovens may well earn his place one day but he is by no means a finished or a proven player and again £3m given away so easily yet we fought like badgers to reduce the Samaras fee.

Paul,

I'm looking forward to seeing young Crosas but hopefully not at Tannadice tomorrow. A bench spot for sure but not in the first 11 for a difficult away fixture like this.

Switching Brown and Robson would be a good start. Although I still feel the extra pace of Caddis should not be discounted. But I doubt he'd get the nod over Brown or Robson for wide right.

On current form, more's the pity.

So what day in May are we on now? I expected the 700,000,000,000,000 Moonbeams Wet Dream-land to have been published on the universal media void by now.

Good to be back on this fine green site after my Garda trip, although can't say the same for being back on the soo side though.

Read back through your articles Paul67 but I am not even going to try reading back through all the posts unless J Titor can provide me with some mind software that will allow me to do this in megatronviaverse time.

REARS get pumped out of the BIG CUP. I laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed...

Moonbeams employs his spinsters to twangled the nerve ends of the REARS again. I laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed...

Good to see nothing changes.

2 good signings but I had hoped for a couple more. Is there a LB on the horizon Paul67 (please say YES Moonbeams of course there is ya big numpty). I just looooooovvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeee it when we gazump the REARS for a player especially when I rate them like I do Loooooooovvvveeeeeennnnnssssssssss.

Did I miss anything important while away other than what has been mentioned in the articles. 1-0 victory on flag day and sounds like a good day you all had with exception of the footy display on show.

What was your news Ed?

Hail Hail

TOINFINITYANDBEYOND-IN-A-ROW.

New signings.

If we compare who has been signed this week, we have signed a player who will have to fight for his place, whereas he would have walked straight into their team. Does that mean its bad that we are signing a back-up? If our back-ups are better than their first choices?
Also shows the new guy believes in his ability to fight his way into the team, and will give Mick and Gary a new challenge.

Compare Mendes.
I know the circumstances and teams, even leagues, are different but Loovens was a starter at Cardiff and played in the FA cup final. Was Mendes even on the bench?
Mendes has jumped at the chance to join them as he knows he'll get a game because he'll no doubt walk straight into the first team and probably be the best player.

Someone asked on the last thread about the MSL player and how we were refused permission to sign, whereas Judas' recommendation may walk straight through the red tape.
Why? Maybe one of them they didn't want to lose while the other...

repost from end of last blog

i simply do not agree with the common theme that an unchanged team from last season is good enough to win the league. a rangers team playing more european games than anyone ever has ran us exceptionally close last year. an improved rangers team -and i believe it will be with boyd starting - with no european football are favourites as it stands IMO to win the league.

how many saves did the st. mirren keeper have to make at the weekend? the lack of creativity alongside the lack of movement up front are common features from last season. Loovens doesnt particularly excite but i will be astonished if he is not a starter. which must mean mick dropping out IMO. left back is clearly the weakest point of our team so an improvement there, combined with Loovens hopefully being comfortable on the ball will help, but midfield to front still has problems. The system we play, along with the painfully slow build up are major factors in this. But these arent going to change so we definitely need to add a forward thinking player, either another striker, winger or creative centre mid. none of our strikers really impress me. ah but 51 combined goals you say, boyd wouldnt be that far off that on his own if he played every week, yet the last 3 rangers managers have deemed him technically not good enough.

to rest on our laurels at this stage, with the changes being made to qualification for the CL next year making it significantly harder for the 2nd placed team to qualify than it already is, would border on criminal. samaras is no improvement on the strikers. mccourt is no improvement on the wide players. yet to be seen whether loovens is an improvment on the CBs. regardless of whether he is, its not enough. all IMO of course

* i forgot to add crosas, but again difficult to judge a player the manager hasnt even watched before which is not much different than the fans making judgements on youtube videos. hopefully alongside brown or robson in the midfield he can make a difference, though wouldnt expect him to be contending for a few weeks at least

Bhoy Malloy

The fee was not £3million, it was well below that

If Naka is fit enought presumably he will start - he has a great record at Tannadice. So with the two wide spots sewn up that leaves a fight for the central two. I would guess Hartley and Brown as Robson has been carryng an injury and apparently didn't train much this week.

Maybe jumping ahead as he has not signed yet ;)

Paul/PF ayr:

Cheers for the info; the punishment seems to have a diplomatic (cowardly) feel to it.

I hope he appeals too, but doubt he will. However, 5,000, seems to be a small price to pay if it cleans up the game; even just a wee bit.

(Re wallets, only joking mate, just seems that every time I pick up a phone to either talk to a lawyer or an accountant my wallet gets mugged)

So a big thanks to NielR for his time and pro bono advice to the blog last night.

SMB and Oldtim, I will find out Tuesday if I can make the Rangers game. If I can't I will be home two weeks later. I'll e-mail you the score.

Ed you old blue nosed git:

What's going on here mate, you wouldn't be trying to out-breed us now would you?
Congratulations to you and yours.

Bhoy Molloy

it was never £3 million. dont believe everything you read

ulster-celt

Barcabhoy-My view is that Rangers always planned to sell Cuellar, knew he wanted to go and had a good indication there was a buyer on July 31st, at which point they signed his replacement.

would have to agree but from gers fans I know they believe Murray was trying to get rid at a far higher price to Newcastle or Spurs, then Carlos and his agent invoked the clause, leaving Potter to pick up the pieces

PFAyr

I agree on the one up front option. My memory may not serve me well but I thought that in the 2006 Benfica game (remember 3-0) Kenny Miller was the lone striker with Maloney playing behind him. Vennegoor and McGeady were absent that evening, which I still fondly recall as probably the best Celtic have played under Strachan. Sadly, the approach that evening has never been replicated since.

I see there are still a lot of retless Bhoys out there. In the past I have been one for jumping the gun regarding signings prior to the flag coming down on the signing window. This year I have decided to stay calm and collective until the window is closed at which point I will either cheer and pour meesel a dram or shout at everyone via this dear green site.

Malceye, I agree re. the passing and moving. Sometimes there is just no movement making it easy to defend against.

Lubo

I totally agree that it is more than curious that such a basic of the game should pass many of the players (pardon the pun). Surely Barca at CP last season was a demonstration for the players and coaches on how it should be done.

I'm not suggesting that such a, on the face of it, simple tactic would be easy to execute. However, an attempt would be a step forward. Last Sunday, saw Barru Robson run himself into corners because he received no assistance in terms of players available to take a pass. Likewise McGeady, where the overriding theme appears to be "Gaun' yersel'"

Moonbeams wet dream,

You've hit the nail on the head: lack of movement makes quick passing impossible.

If you watch Barce who are the experts, the player on the ball always has several options. Xabi, Iniesta and their like never seem to stand still, they are always looking for space. That's what we don;t seem to be doing.

Maybe Crossas will herals a change of approach. I can see Naka and Aiden being on his wavelength - and dare I say it, Shawn too. Others may well have to change their way of thinking and playing.

oldtim

had a look

could be worth a ew shout

noticed it`s a handicap ..whilst not get 4 places will get 1/4 the odds

i`ll have a go anyway

wouldn`t need to be very good to beat my last effort

GOOD LUCK

Kitalba.

I sent you mail last night.

Bhoy_Molloy

Where did you "hear" about a £3m fee for Loovens ?

Did you read that in the Daily Record ?

Here endeth the lesson.

fleagle1888

malceye

couldnt agree more about pass and move. i've had a season ticket at the nou camp for most of the last 6 years. i have watched xavi consistently perform better than anyone at barca, until the emergence of messi

if i was a football manager, i would make our midfielders watch videos of xavi until their eyelids need wedged open

he never stands still, he always moves into space...that creates an easy pass for the guy who has the ball or draws attention away from other barca players. in line with our own managers desire for better passing, xavi's passing is sublime...

if crosas has the potential to be anywhere near as good as xavi, he will be our best player this year....

j titor, absolutely outrageous!

Malceye, 11:18, agree.

bjmac03, no info, sorry.

Lochmoybhoy, 11:21, agree completely.

Barcabhoy, you make a compelling argument.

Bhoy_Molloy, 11:39, when was Loovens told he would not split McManus and Caldwell? Please don’t reference Gordon’s press conference yesterday, as this most certainly was not what you allude.

You are right, we did fight for every penny when signing Samaras, which possibly suggests we will see a lot more of Loovens that you expect.

Would like to add my voice to the ‘where on earth did you read £3m’ calls, it was well below this figure.

chris sutton is, I don’t want to turn into a one trick pony, but I reckon if I was allowed to pick central midfield we would win the league at a canter. Hmmm.

Moonbeams, we have certainly been on the lookout for a left back. I hear Loovens played there previously, but have no info if he is being considered for that position.

Paul,

The new home kit is due to be launched on 21st. Could we be lining up a couple more signings (Maloney + LB?) for a Nike Thursday??

a couple of wee questions for the financial guys , the huns are spending more money under Wattie than they spent under Le Guen and McLeish, why is that the case when they are so skint?

the profits they have made from last season are being spent, are HBOS and their shareholders not due a share of this?

many Celtic fans expected Cuellar /McGregor to be sold, and no replacements brought in , but they are recruiting despite their financial constraints, how come?

Mazy

gallagher

From previous post,I've been pondering what you said but can't get it?

My brain just isn't in gear, simple explanation please.

mazy

I spoke of this on the previous thread. they have had to sell their two best players in order to pay to fill the squad.

while we are keeping our best players and adding to the squad.

Ulster-Celt

Now that everyone's signed up to Michele Cocozza's CQN Fantasy Footie League, you're all welcome to join another Fantasy League. on the same site.

Full details are here; Selectabet and you can use this code to join the private league: 258353-58410

Unlike Duffield & his SFA cronies we've managed to get a sponsor for our competition; Paddy Power have provided £200 of free bets and there's prizes for finishing 'Rangers', sorry 2nd (and 3rd).

Good Luck!

Hey guys,
I have sat back for a while now reading varios post but i have to be obvious and say i am distinctly upset at the lack of transfer activity by our club. Part of fottball and the pre-season is the excitment about new players coming to the club etc. Crosas will be a fantastic addition i'm sure if not immeditaly but eventually. Mccourt and samaras aer decent squad players and Loovens i think will become solid enough for us, but where is the excitment. I know we can't compete with the English prem etc for top quaility players but we can compete with Rangers for goodness sake and we , as always are second whne it comes to investment in the squad. Financially we are in a decent position and Strachan has spent nothing in comparision to PLG and Smith at rankers over the past 3 years. We are lucky they have spent so poorly. I do not except there are not numerous players in the world within both our transfer budget and wages limitations. This is a poor excuse. Why are we continually so prudent and tight fisted with regards to this. Paul67 give me something to get excited about with regards to investment in the team?? have we improved in anybody's opinion since last year?? I dont mean squad wise but first team wise?? We are stagnent stale and short of ideas, new blood equalls new energy something we so far have distinctly lacked. I live in hope though.

maisy dribble

what choice do they have ?

sell your best player every year and bring in as many squad players as you can with the money...look at this years intake...velicka , miller and mendes will never be sold for whatever price they paid....lafferty and bougherra will be shipped out for a profit should they come good in the way cuellar did....everyone we have signed has the potential to improve and should WE choose, to be sold profitably

remember never to believe the figures attributed to Rangers transfer dealings

I know for an absolute fact Hutton was not sold for £9 million...Murrays statement that they had taken in £10 million in the last 18 months confirmed that

svensson, clement, sebo, sionko were all sold in that period...they certainly did not go out the door for £1million in total

equally on the other side of the equation, you can take with a pinch of salt any numbers attributed to a Rangers purchase...always inflated, to make it seem as if they are still a spending club, and to add credibility to the signing

Maisy Dribble

The constraint Rangers operate under is broadly the same as that of Celtic and most non-bankrolled clubs. That is; The requirement to show a profit each year. In Rangers' case, this may actually be a covenant in their recent refinancing.

I reckon if you take account of ins and outs at Rangers under Smith to end of last season, there won't be much in it one way or the other. Probably the same as Le Guen got.

This season, while they continue to sign players, they are also selling, and again, they'll end up with a balance of value bought V's value sold.

With no European football income, chances are that the value sold will exceed value bought, and the wage bill will be reduced somewhat also.

Regarding how Rangers can afford plyers if they are skint, and with reference to Murray.

Mendes is Portuguese for 'rabbit' and Portsmouth is Portuguese for 'hat'.

The phrase 'Pedro Mendes' means 'appease the fans before potential protest'.

Gers for Change? Think I'll join 'Gers for status quo'

barcabhoy,

Agree with what you say about the smoke and mirrors always applied to Rangers' transfer dealings. I also think that there will still be another 2 or 3 to go to help balance the books.

Paul Robinson starts for WBA today.potential left back, according to speculation.

ulster-celt

j tutor,

As your new computer has recently exploded, may I remind you of my direct question dated April 20, 2017, that still requires a response :)

From previous article:
oneantonrogan 2008 10:56 PM and others.

I accept totally that music lovers, estate agents, travel agents, politicians, etc might well be truly committed Celtic supporters but that is not my point. CQN stared as a forum to discuss all things Celtic (I repeat, all things Celtic, I just wish it had stayed that way.

Nothing wrong in that is there? I still read CQN religiously but scroll past many more posts than ever before.

Paul67

I would hope loovens is not being considered for LB we do enough of playing players out of position

Scott brown is an example, he is a attacking midfielder but our formation is so rigid unless it changes i do not see us ever getting the best out of Scott Brown. I also think however it is so rigid to allow the likes of aiden and naka to flourish which works well but means i suspect we will never see the Scott Brown from Hibs and we have bought potentially the wrong type of player for our system

Just my opinion

barcabhoy,UlsterCelt,Battered bunnet

thanks for clearing that up,

Mazy

anstman

does naka really flourish consistently having being played out of position for 3 seasons?

is aiden flourishing as he could do given he rarely picks the ball up in space where he can drive 1 on 1 at defenders,

its generally with 2 players in front of him, little support from LB or midfield and is left to take said 2 players on and get a cross into the box(which he does admirably)

Just seen gary Caldwell's comments

"I'm sure the manager knows what he needs. We've only got three centre-halves at the minute."

Caldwell
Bobo
O'Dea
McManus

Does that not add up to 4, nice diplomacy Gary, try spending less of your time telling the press how good you think you are

Antsman

i agree

i stated a few days ago that SB would be much better suited to playing for the huns in their 5 man midfield

he is an attacking mid ....this position isn`t possible in our set up , with two wide players

if he doesn`t fit then i only hope that he doesn`t end up in the same position TG ...an expensive error

Is Robinson going to be an improvement over Lee Naylor?

We're getting jittery over the LB position. Hopefully GS and PL aren't.

Someone else has already stated on here the two best LB scenarios are we either splash big(£5mill) or moderately with a 24yr old or under.

Robinson doesn't fit that criteria.

Every club in Europe and beyond must know Celtic need a LB by now so it won't make the SSM job any easier.

antsman

Bobo is not training with the first team anymore and has been told he can leave, maybe thats why he has said that.

Gary Caldwell has proved he is good

Ulster-celt

Ok then can someone with the ability to add look at the transfer expendicture of rangers compared to us and then we can discuss. lets say over the past two seasons???

You will be happy to know though that after recieving the entire populaces supplies of carrots Raffone became insane with Xylemitis and happily for us all seriously impaled himself on a large carrot, this as you may not yet know resulted in Raffone's capture and transformation into "CarrotFace", the yearly timverse snowman that is displayed in the largest popucentre's celebration circle. In better than that news though moonbeams wet dream, the megatronviaverse you refer to changed titles in 2093 after the "Transformers" launched a complaint that they were being marginalised. This though results in the "Transformers" paying compensation in way of the "Instaknow" device that enables all in the timverse to immediately gain knowledge of anything missed on the Blogosphere. Sadly though moonbeams wet dream this device is not created until 2049 so I cannot supply you with it in this frame.

Paul67,

My always correct machine only reports the truth, outrageous as it is, the truth sometimes is not what we want to hear. When am I getting my new blinking knob Paul67, dont make me send the level 3000's.

Nybrianr,

my machine has alerted me to your comment @ 12.28 of,

"j tutor,

As your new computer has recently exploded, may I remind you of my direct question dated April 20, 2017, that still requires a response :)"

Ha!!, so finally you rear your ugly "Fizog" again Ny!! your humour cords I see still require the maintenance work, Tutor indeed!! thats so 2070 Ny!!. In answer to your question from Apr 20, 2017 though Ny, yes, you do indeed pass your agent entrance level probings. Sadly for you though Ny, in Jan 2078 you are involved in a machine accident that leaves both you and your machine traversing between the gayverse and the tranyverse. Gladly as you know though Ny, you are eventually returned to the timverse in 2276 to much amusement after you attempt to convince all the timverse that pink trousers go with a yellow shirt and a nice handbag.

Praise the Lawell!!

PF Ayr

My drunken business partner tried to tell my 10 year daughter a depricating joke about solicitors on Tuesday night. One of my best friends is a well known local solicitor ,and my daughter thinks that the sun and moon shine out of his archie.

The joke was lost on her.
In essence, she thought that it was impolite.

Anyway, have you heard the one about the sunken ship full of lawyers?

PfF ayr.

I just wanted you to confirm what I read into the race,I've got a fiver EW but never took the price so ended up putting on another £2 EW in case it gets gambled.

As I said previously the horse is owned by the Irish Mafia, and they aint mugs when it comes to horses,If Aiden O'Brien had trained the horse it would have been Fav.

Is DD part of that group of owners,I know he's great friends with them.
I think I'll have another look at the form,if it looks as good now as it did this morning I'll put another tenner on.

PF AYR

I hope the PF doesn't stand for Procurator Fiscal.

It's on the official site.

Loovens signs.

Gordon J, the new strip launch is certainly not a signing deadline.

Rossthekid, you are going to need to wait like the rest of us, but can I caution against getting too hyped up by transfers. Two midfield signings, Gravesen and Robson prove that attention is easier to get than accomplished performers.

Antsman, I don’t see Scott Brown being inhibited by a less attack minded strategy. He played in front of Paul Hartley last week but central mid still didn’t work.

j titor, hold your 3000s, you knob is in the mail (not male) and will be with you shortly before the previous one expired.

oldtim

i`m away to put it on now

TT

it can mean that ...but not in this case

CHRIS HOY wins another gold excellent

I happen to think Scott Brown is a similar style of player to TG. We haven't seen the best of Scott because he is not allowed to play the way he did at Hibs. Similar situation to TG. I think a lot of Scott's indiscipline last year was down to frustration. I also think TG could do a job fo us. He is a talented footballer. Our problems in midfield, as has been well documented, is the pedestrian pace we play at. Notice how often BR will cut back onto his left side when playing on the right. I became aware of this at Love St in our late 1-0 win last season.
As Barcabhoy pointed out, the joy of watching Barca is the speed of movement of their players. I would love to see Celtic return to such fast exciting one touch football.

Paul67

Scott Brown is a figure you rarely see in the opposition box, he rarely drives FORWARD with the ball all the things that made him good at Hibs.

Last week i saw on numerous occassions hartley further forward than Brown

It is not all Brown's fault, or if it is and he keeps underperformaing and does not fit in why is his treatment so different to Gravesens?

Ulster Celt

Bobo clearly is training with the first team, he played in pre-season. Regardless of that caldwell is not the person to be discrediting him as if he is no longer a celtic player. Caldwell has also proved he can be poor but he is always in the press with something to say even when he cost us the barca game, benfica game etc. That is not a go at his ability he is doing well and deserves the praise but he is not an authority on our CBs neither is he good enough to smugly suggest his place is safe

Paul67,

Praise the Lawell!! Paul67, you will create a massive bubblequake if it arrives before the previous one expires!! Thankfully your immediate inforeturn gives me warning to turn on the antiquake measures, thank you. The 3000's have been stood down Paul67, I believe they are due a thorough servicing again anyway. I suppose I better "Phone" ahead to the "NHS24" service again as I fear another bout of Cuellspots may erupt. I have to leave you know as the Major is threatening me with the ultraprobe if I do not hand in my report soon, I will return in a frame of my choosing.

To Infinity and Backwards

Why should Robson remain wide on right? On the few occasions he has played there he has been ineffective. The opposition know he has to turn inside or back as he can,t cross on his right foot.It merely allows them to clog the middle in case he comes inside with no wide threat.
We have no movement off the ball. WHY? Is our system so restricted that only the wide men have any creative freedom?Which again highlights the folly of playing Robson on the right.
Antsman makes an excellent point on Scot Brown.Last week he had some great moments of skill but did seem reluctant to drive forward when he had opportunity taking the safe option.Has the spirit of TG haunted him?Still think G Strachans threats and utterances on TG where wrong.Agree that TG must shoulder most of the blame but our coach is also responsible for this fiasco.
I always feel if you play not to loose that on most occasions you won,t but subsequently at times its hard to win.Witness another SPL team last season.
We have a very good squad of players the best in the SPL by a mile but we are nowhere near the sum of our parts although our lack of address to the left back slot is inexcusable we still have a squad that should win the league.
But i still am not as confident as our talent pool should make me.
Our square peg round hole and over cautious coaching has me prepared for a season not to dissimilar to last.

Glenn is a Bhoy official.

Two french guys go to a fancy dress party, where the theme is to dress as a "mood".

So the first guy gets a pear, cuts a hole in it and puts his willy through the hole. The second guy gets a bucket of custard, and dips his willy in it.

As they walk into the party the host spies them and thinks "what the hell?!". So he goes over to the french guys and asks "Great costumes guys, but i have to ask, what have you come as?"

The french guy with the bucket says "He is deep in dis-pear, and I am f***ing dis-custard".

I'll get my coat.

Paul67

So what does inhibit Scott Brown ?

"Glenn Loovens ... The highly sought-after 24-year-old"

A nice subtle dig there!

.

Afternoon OldTim67....I am On Goerdieland @ Newbury....It was Down Here for the Melbourne Cup (Race that Stops a Nation)Last year and Didn't Stay the Trip IMO....

o1bhoy

Forget about Silvestre , he is signing for an ex-teammate.

tinytim ,

ball control, discipline, positional sense & discipline . All of these inhibit Broon

and discipline ?-)

Antsman

Those accusations against Caldwell are misplaced. Caldwell was 'in the press' yesterday and he was the player at the press conference (his turn on the rota), and I don't think you can say he is a talker to the press, unless required. Indeed GS referred to the fact that Caldwell and the press are not friends. At no time did he 'smugly suggest that his place was safe' - GS mentioned that since weeks before the end of last season, he has been our best player, but GC didn't exactly say 'it's my jersey Glenn'.

Interesting you say 'etc' after Benfica and Barca, because that was it for errors. You could make reference to his match-winning contributions, and those would go some way to suggesting that he should be an automatic pick, as you somehwat infer. As for the 'three centre-backs', Bobo may be training with the first team (is he?), but he is out the picture, and won't make the bench tomorrow - we are trying to get rid.

notafanofstan 1-30pm
Coincidently the same accusations that have been labeled to a few central midfielders under our coach.
To be blunt i think the system and tactics are the problem

Better off with Tweety Pie

Just watching the Arse v W.B.A game.
HT 1-0
Close attention on P Robinson at LB for Macca's mob.

He's been very good defensively... so much so that everything for the Arse is coming down their left.
Bear in mind the flying machine Walcott is in direct combat.
He seems to read the game well, he's covered for his CB a few times

Offering nowt going forward though... but this could be leveled at W.B.A in general.

Would I be distraught if we signed him?

NO.

Would I prefer if we signed Sagna?

HELL YEAH! (but only if he sorts his hair!)

TBD

fan-a-tic,

I agree, particularly Gravesen & Broon both are heedless chickens.

One has goals in him as a small redeeming feature

01bhoy.

Did you catch my post to PF ayr at 11.35am,do you get form for british racing down under,if yes, have a look at the horses form.

Or Clichy seeing as he plays LB

According to Chucky, Davis is joining the "transfer revolution" at Ibrox.

The price is "somewhere south of £3 million", so yet another brilliant piece of poker play by the loyal cardigan!

Yurcl

01bhoy.

I bet Sixties Icon in that race. The class horse in the race.
I'll keep my eye out for Ggeordieboy.

Must go,racings about to begin.

Don't know if anyone's given this any thought...
With our friends across the river spending money like there's no tomorrow on midfielders - Mendes, Edu, Davis (if the in house paper is to be believed), The Spanish "wonderkid" and Bresciano (if the bid is accepted) could it be the case that the injury to captain fantastic is much more serious than was first thought???
Wouldn't have thought that they would be able to spend £12.5 million (if the fees quoted in the rags are to be believed) on 4 players to have them not be in the starting line up...

Welcome to Celtic Glen Loovens, hope it's a fruitful career for you!

Darnel trying to sign another 'Wunderkind' from the USA .

I wish Milan, Real Madrid & Barcelona would get their act together, another gem pinched from right under their noses.

Some things never change, see the usual claptrap directed towards Scott Brown.

Guys are prepared to give him a break after what he was going through last year, but after one game you're at it again.

Scott Brown was playing infront of Paul Hartley and there is good reason for that, cover, which I think he did quite well last week.

The team as a whole did not play well last week, first game of the season which we ended up winning!

These are early days yet, so have some patience and watch the four en a row roll on!

gsu

Paul67
Will Maloney sign this week ?

Is Loovens the first Glen to play for Celtic? ... apart from Glen Daly on the PA

.

OT67....Yes we Have Racing 24/7 Newbury & Ripon tonight....I Have bet Big Moggas WBA in the Handicap EPL....56 Points Start @ 12/1....Would love to see the Huddle Bhoy do well this year....

o1bhoy

Anyone got total spend figures for the Govanites this close season - Kenny Miller, Kyle Lafferty, Bougherra, Mendes, etc etc

They seem to be stretching the money quite far...

argentina 1 holland 0 at olympics.

just switched on. evander playing.

First post here, love the site and more importantly, the great people that contribute to it.

Harry Redknapp was just on Clyde 1 and mentioned that a fee had been agreed with Celtic to sign Sean Davis, but that the player turned down the move.

He also said that he didn't want to sell Mendes to Rangers because he 'needed the money' Hmmm...!

greensideup ,

Broon's absence = late push to win the title.

Coincidence ? I think not.
