Celtic Quick News Five-a-sides, 25 October 2008
The second annual Celtic Quick News five-a-sides takes place on Saturday 25th October 2008 at Glasgow Green Five-a-side pitches. We are delighted to be again running the tournament with charity at its core and in conjunction with our good friends at Glasgow the Caring City.
This year participants are asked to bring along educational equipment for a school in Kaponda Village, Malawi. Rather than a cash fee each player is asked to bring with them a donation consisting of items such as packs of pencils, rulers, erasers, chalk, jotters, pads, solar calculators and, if possible, some good quality, light material, children's clothing, although our focus is on educational equipment. For a variety of reasons, including import duties and availability of power supply, electrical equipment and curriculum specific items, such as text books, are not appropriate.
There is no minimum requirement for entry, players are simply asked to use their initiative and do what they can.
Those who are unable to attend and would like to contribute with a monetary donation will have their contribution directed to a concurrent project in Johannesburg, South Africa. Funds raised will go towards the costs of creating a multi-sports play area, aimed at getting kids back into playing sports and brining them into a safe environment to learn, share and add to their quality of life.
The Caring City's initiatives are being developed under their 'football4life' banner, you can have a preview of their work-in-progress at www.football4life.org.uk . International projects co-ordinator Ross Galbraith will update the site with more specific information on the projects in the coming weeks in the run up to the event and specifically for Celtic Quick News contributors.
Ross told us "We are delighted to be teaming up with Celtic Quick News again after the success of past events. Our sports and football projects have benefited hugely from the generosity of not just Quick News readers but also Celtic and other football supporters across the country in tragic circumstances with the donation of the tributes made to Jimmy Johnstone, Tommy Burns and Phil O'Donnell.
"Word of our projects spread across the globe and we have had media coverage of our work by African news agencies, alerted by a Celtic supporter in Paris, ensuring the recent Tommy tribute strip donations were heard and seen across Africa on television and radio by quite literally tens of millions of people.
"News spread to America where both Celtic and Rangers supporters groups clubbed together for further donations. St Mirren invited us to Love Street to make a huge contribution by way of football kit as they move to their new stadium and there are many other cases. Passion for football can quite literally aid life for the most impoverished people in the world and our 'football4life' initiative has been born quite literally from the generosity of the people like you guys at Celtic Quick News."
Ross left us with a plug "Visit our website and look for the 'donate here' link on the top of the page to donate funds or contact us to arrange a collection of materials by calling 0141 634 8560 and arrange for our team to collect items from your home, business or chosen address, or simply post donated items to: Glasgow the Caring City, Unit 6 Linn Park Industrial Estate, 315 Drakemire Drive, Glasgow, G45 9SS."
To request entry for your team please drop an email to cqnfives@hotmail.co.uk
Look out for the 'live draw' in the run up to the event and some other fun. Get in touch to register a team and look out the school items required. It's time to relive the mission of Br Walfrid.

Paul67:
is the 'fives' tournament age handicapped? Is there an older age group team looking for a player?
What's with all the Blue Bits on this Blog?
Paul67,
a great cause, hope its a big turnout.
Hail Hail
But you can't rigidly play 4-4-2 in the CQN Fives and it's probably going to be difficult to ensure that you play with both wrong sided wingers...and I bet Bobo still can't get a game!
Ballabhoy,
Re-Koki in squad, cheers for that info, for me its very good news.

I think with the stories about Aiden in the media today, anything but 3 points on sunday will see the media label us in a crisis and i think this will really bring into sharp focus an unsuccessful recruitment campaign in the summer and a poor start to the season.
I find the mcgeady/strachan rumours annoying but also worrying.
I hope we are not seeing a repeat of previous player/manager fall outs that have resulted in the player being transferred.

Joe Parkhead I strongly beleive you are not a genuine celtic supporter during the transfer window you also boasted on several occaisions about a big name signing from one of your sports journalist contacts that would "shock football" You said that your contact was so confident that a deal would be done that you promised to come on here and reveal the full details if said transfer did not materialise.....strangely enough despite frequent requests from Tiny Tim and others you have remained silent !....now you infect this celtic forum with your anti strachan rants and facecious, non clever Big Jock New windups....not funny and not welcome !

Ihave heard this rumour about WGS and mcgeady and thank god it has come in to the open now,can you imagine BIG JOCK falling out with wee JINKY which he did on numerous occasions, then a big european night comes alone and BIG JOCK drops wee JINKY, I think not the team always comes first and BIG JOCK new that the wee man is a match winner just think big BOBO SUTTON THOMPSON HARTSON GRAVISON NOW MCGEADY Ithink the problem is STRACHAN can you imagine MARTIN O NEIL falling out with HENRIK and telling him your not playing in europe on wednesday get a life!!! Ithink STRACHAN time is almost up give me a mans manager anytime!!!!! BIG JOCK NEW ALRIGHT
TMC
As a man who is generally level headed and not one for knee jerk reactions i wondered what your wthoughts were on Wednesday night?
Seriously Paul have you been hacked . Too much bloo
Surely players fall out with managers constantly? I think the facts are that Aiden McGeady has, under the management of Gordon Strachan, gone from being a bit part player to Scotland's player of the year and first choice for his country. I'm also certain that he recently committed his long term future and football development to Celtic, managed by Gordon Strachan.
Guaranteed this will highlight Aiden's comments about Tommy Burns being the buffer between him and Gordon.
ThisManCraig;
McGeady must be over-coached and under-mangaged... (comment made laced with sarcasm).

I think that you are spot on with your observation.
Goodbye Joe.
I have heard this rumour about STRACHAN and MCGEADY thank god it has come out in the open now,can you imagine BIG JOCK falling out with WEE JINKY and drops him for a big european night,"THE TEAM COMES FIRST" BIG JOCK knew WEE JINKY was a match winner, just think SUTTON,HARTSON,THOMPSON,GRAVESON now MCGEADY the problem might well be STRACHAN can you imagine MARTIN O'NEILL falling out with HENRIK and telling him he is not playing in EUROPE on WEDNESDAY!!! "GET REAL" it is time to get a man manager in, big JOCK knew,MARTIN knew, "STRACHAN" your time is running out!!!!!
Paul67,
What time does this fives event kick-off?
If I can convince Bazzabhoy and Jamesiesabellend to make up 3/5ths of a team, whilst I recruit a couple of ringers, I'll fling my oversized hat into the ring for consideration.
Why is it only Celtic Park dressing room bust ups that make the newspapers in this sad little country ?
Honestly, who cares ? I played amateur for nearly 20 years and couldn't begin to tell you how many times I fell out with other players and the manager.
A dressing room is full of big egos and testosterone, and one where no fall outs happen is one where no trophies are ever won.
Well done with the Charity match Paul and Co , great stuff , true spirit of Celtic . Managed to raise over $600 for the local Down Syndrome assoc today well pleased.
I see the mighty Spurs thrashed , well got a late winner , against Wisla Krakov at White Hart Lane . 16 Million pounds striker Darren Bent got the winner and 12 Million pound Croat thingmy played . If only we had spent gazillions in August we too could have beaten the Polish champions if they were in the Champions League that is. We should have Moyes in charge as he held a very strong standard Leige team to a 2-2 draw at Goodison. Good result on his budget. Hope we hammer Killie even more than Motherwell , a very good friend of mine is a Killie fan and I owe him a phone call.
Joe,
By all means put your point across, but please, please, please refrain from the despicable tag line which given it's usage elsewhere has no place on a Celtic blog.
Also, why not silence your detractors by doing as you said you would, out the source and the earth shattering name of the player.
Credibility is everything.
Eh, Joe m'man. O'Neill fell out with Gareth Barry. He dropped him. And stripped him of the captaincy. And yes, he eventually played him again; without restoring him to captain.
McGeady will play again.
Take the hot coals out of your pants, and calm down.
I'll take the fine detail of the McGeady-gate situation with a pinch of salt. That said, if he has been excluded from team meetings then I find that quite petty on the part of the manager.
Gordon Strachan needs to tread very carefully here. Like it or not the knives are sharpening again. A defeat in Villarreal and a second SPL defeat over the next month will have his detractors at fever pitch. Throw in a possible stand-off with the clubs best player - who the fans generally adore - and patience will evaporate.
I don't like the way things have started this season and I can't say I'm optimistic about the way things are going after Wednesday's dire display.
Something is not right.
Manager and player have fallout shock.
It happens everywhere and rarely makes the papers because it means nothing.
AM hasn't started too well this season, but who has in midfield?
What do we do for the upcoming games?
Go back to the Motherwell midfield?
This is the part of the team that worries me.I would like to see the midfielder interchanging during games.
Having players on the wrong wing works sometimes, sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes I would like to see Naka swing a ball in from the left the way Thomson used to, or Aiden/Shaun not have to take a touch to get the ball on their good side.
At times this gives the defending team a bit more time,Aalbourg being an example.
I am one of Mcgeady's biggest supporters and i don't think excluding anyone is beneficial if that link to record pasge is to be believed
BUT i commented after recent old firm game that he looked like he wasn't interested until we were 4-1 down and only then decided to have a run at Dirk Bentfoot.
I know there were bigger culprits in defeat than him but i honestly thought unlike previous old firm games where maybe he was too keen that he just looked like he would rather be somewhere else.
Maybe he does.
I Hope not but we need him getting back to his best
With regard to the supposed fall out, reported in a so called bastion of truth with no agenda whatsoever towards Celtic, given the form of certain players so far this season I don't think prior to the game on Wednesday many among us were too disappointed in the choice of Naka and Shaun over Aiden. Personally I am a fan of all three, howevvah wingers being wingers are more susceptible to the old hot & cold maxim.
Micromanagement with hindsight is a truly wonderful talent. I couldn't do it myself but I see many can.

Ryder Cup Trivia....
"THUNDER".... BOLT MEETS HIS MATCH....
Not for nothing was American Tommy Bolt given the nickname "Thunder" and when he was drawn to play Scottish hard man Eric Brown in the singles at Lindrick in 1957 everybody knew there could be fireworks.
Brown reckoned Bolt deliberately played slowly after falling three down early on, so he sent his caddie off to the clubhouse. He returned with a chair!
After the ill-tempered match, which Brown won four and three, there was no shaking of hands and Bolt's only words were that he had not enjoyed it. "I don't suppose you did," replied his opponent.
"Because even you knew when the games were drawn that you never had an earthly hope of beating me."
Bolt was later quoted as saying about the British crowd: "Individually they are pretty nice folks. But get them together and they are about as miserable a bunch of people as you could ever have the misfortune to run into in a supposedly civilised world.
"They cheered when I missed a putt and sat on their hands when I hit a good shot."

Is this Scottish Blue or Hun Blue as I get my Blues mixed up and I am now forced to wear my green tinted sunglasses to look at the blog but it does show us to be more tolerant support, I couldn't imagine a Hun blog site with anything remotely green on it.
I think the only reason that Aiden has been dropped is because his form has dipped and it is just not this season his form has dipped, I thought just after he was named Player's Player of the Season (too bad that trophy is not sponsered by Players cigarettes then you would get Players Player's Player...)his formed has dropped, I put it down at the time to Aiden being tired from carrying the team through the first 3/4s of the season which was forgivable, maybe the rift started earlier. The bad form has now continued to the start of this season. I feel he has reverted back to the player he was 2 years ago, trying to beat the same defender 3 times, not picking the right pass to make and not linking well with his teamates to go along with erratic shooting he realy should score more goals with the opportunity he gets. He has also lost a touch of speed, is he still working with the speed coach (I forget his name) for it was after training with him he started to look like the player we all thought he could be when he added pace to his skills, it might be still early in the season but he does not look as fast as last year.
Maybe he is just fed up playing in Scotland and being subjected to the abuse that Neil Lennon had and still recieves at every ground in the SPL.
In my opinion his present form does not warrant a starting place with Celtic I only wish that WGS takes this course of action with other players on the team that are off form. I don't feel sorry for Aiden as I am sure not only is he paid very well but I imagine a good portion of our support will take his side of the rift with WGS mianly because of who WGS is and the fact that Aiden plays for Ireland, Celtic supporters can't help it, it's the romantic in them.
A few games chilling out sitting on the bench will do him no harm at all and then maybe his form that he had for the most part of last season might come back then everybody will be happy especially WGS and Aiden. Failing that if by January he is still sulking on the bench then sell him, the future is in Aiden hands.
Mon the Hoops
What is going on in Scottish football....who in their right mind would give Mike McCurry Celtics game this weekend as his comeback. Astonishing.
The support will inevitably react..and be slaughtered for it!
Who makes these decisions. They are playing with fire. If he was to come back, showing no shame, then it should surely have been low profile!
Unbelievable!
...and as if by magic the blue is now purple! Always liked Prince!
It's obvious that McGeady was dropped because Gordon preferred Maloney, and rightly so judging by their relative form. I wouldn't worry too much about talk of bust-ups, it seems that Celtic are the only club in Scotland who have them. It also seems to be the case that we constantly hear about these bust-ups only to find out shortly after that they either never happened or that they have been grossly exaggerated.

It always amazes me when the red tops print something and so many people say there you go.
Every day I come home from work check out the Evening Times , Herald and The Record. I expect and would be shocked if I didn't see three negative celtic stories to every positive rearrangers stories . Look at todays headlines, look yourself .
Rift between Gordon and Aiden
Barry will be back stronger (presumably for the Inverness away games)
the Evening Times is worse
Mcmanus we got it all to do ,Kennedy crocked , Dishwater Danes off colour Celtic , Celtic can't afford point blanks , Should Aiden have played
Miller traget 20 goals , Boyd proves that goals are just the thing.
Its not rocket science. I read the crap they sprout but I believe nothing , more insights to Celtic in this blog. Why do we debate headlines that are not designed for our market but a depressed Rangers supporters market.
Celebrate the first point in the champions league. We are the champions . We are at the top table. c'mon the hoops.

Taurangabhoy :- While I agree with most of your post I have to disagree with one point, I wouldn't say the Rangers support are depressed.
I'll be the first to admit that we were pretty depressed a few weeks back with the sale of one of our best players and elimination from Europe.
Since then however we have had a pretty decent start to the league, a good victory over our biggest rivals on their own patch, and money being spent bringing in players.
I would say that most of us think we are seeing the start of a pretty decent team building in front of us.
I will admit though to a lot of envy when the C.L tune starts up.
Haven't got the cricket thing but caught the league bug in the late 80's when I lived in Sydney and Big Mel Meninga led the green raiders to some of the best finals in any sport I have seen. Warriors just got another one and are ripping the chooks apart. My mate here is from Melbourne and a big Aussie rules fan , his old mans old man fed the family in the depression by playing for Carlton. Still can't get the rules just know that you get extra points for knocking teeth out.

reposting from the last article for Gordy Bhoy re his holiday in Benalmadena:
Gordybhoy from a couple of threads back, I gave some advice re pubs in Benalmadena a couple of weeks ago. I can recommend Stephen's Green on Avenida Garcia Lorca, but it might be worth a walk past in advance, because they do have a tendency to shut the bar when the owners are off on holiday. I usually watch the games in Inchys on Avenida Bonanza which is not a Celtic pub, but there's usually a fair few expat fans in there - Celtic games are usually put on at the telly right up the back. Both are up in the town rather than down on the coast. If you stumble across the Tartan Arms, avoid like the plague, it is bluenose central. The Point, although decked out in shillelaghs and shamrocks and the like, was the scene of a very unpleasant afternoon watching Hearts v Celtic (Jan + Jarosik goals) in the company of some greetin'-faced bears.
If you can tell me whereabouts in Benalmadena you are staying, I can give you directions, or maybe think of somewhere nearer for you?
Mike Mc Curry was not appointed to our game because of The Famine Song. Granted the Bears are obsessed with tit-for-tat because they are a bunch of tits for tats and will stoop to anything if it means getting a leg up and we´re not talking about a trouser leg here.
Mike Mc Curry requested the Celtic Kilmarnock game and was given it. Celtics game kicks off at 16:00 and by the time the game is over and everybody is showered and clean and presentable (Hopefully) and that the guitar is still in tune
Three things to keep in mind here
1) Sunday
2) Cover of Darkness
3) Close vicinity of Car Park
Ah 1 Ah 2 Ah 1 2 3 4 ... take it away Mike
Please forgive me
If I act a little strange
For I know not what I do.
Feels like lightning running through my veins
Everytime I look at you
Everytime I look at you
Help me out here
All my words are falling short
And there's so much I want to say
Want to tell you just how good it feels
When you look at me that way
When you look at me that way
Throw a stone and watch the ripples flow
Moving out across the bay
Like a stone I fall into your eyes
Deep into some mystery
Deep into that mystery
I got half a mind to scream out loud
I got half a mind to die
So I won't ever have to lose you girl
Won't ever have to say goodbye
I won't ever have to lie
Won't ever have to say goodbye
Yeah na na na na
Yeah na na na na
Please forgive me
If I act a little strange
For I know not what I do
It's like my head is filled with lightning girl
Everytime I look at you
Everytime I look at you
Everytime I look at you
Everytime I look at you
Any idea why the Celtic game kicks off at 16:00 on Sunday?

Setanta are showing a game ealier so they might not want a clash. I'm happy about this because I finish work at 4 oohh yeah!
It's unfortunate that we have McCurry this week.
Apart from desperatly needing a win we will be under intense media scrutiny as the press will be looking for a "they're as bad a each other "story.
McCurry shouldn't ba allowed to referee any game in the SPL.It's irrelevant whether he is a cheat or not. He is a very poor referee and everyone in the media stated this last season (it was easier than branding him a cheat).
Why after last season's performances is he still ranked high enough for the SPL?
EdwardUrsus you've got me ...this time. Good start for you in the local competition this year and I would rather be chased than chasing but a long way to go Edward and I expect Celtic to take the top spot well before Christmas. My points were more aimed at our own support believing what the rags say when they clearly write what the market they are selling to want to hear and that market isn't Celtic supporters. I am sure if you lifted the eye patch you would have to agree the headlines are a little skewed. CQN has had a swinging season so far ...the debate about the songs the minority of rangers fans sing has been strong and I honestly hope for Scotlands future that steps are taken . Some of our braver support have reminded us today that we have the same issue with policing our own when it comes to sick or vile songs. No place for it in my team in my opinion. One battle we have in common although we have more chance of winning ours Edward. Just like the us winning the League , Cups and World wide acclaim ;)

Ryder Cup Trivia....
"YOU CAN HAVE THE HOLE AND THE CUP"....
The 1969 match at Royal Birkdale is remembered for Jack Nicklaus' sporting concession of a putt to Tony Jacklin to bring about a tie. But things were rather different the day before.
Bernard Gallacher and Brian Huggett played Dave Hill and Ken Still in the fourballs and on the very first green Huggett asked Hill to stop moving about, then Still to stand further away.
On the next green Still shouted to his caddie not to hold the flag for Gallacher, but things really got out of hand on the seventh. Hill missed a putt and holed out, but Gallacher told him he had putted out of turn.
Still picked up Gallacher's ball-marker and said: "You can have the hole and the goddamn cup." He and Huggett started shouting at each other walking up the next fairway and the crowd jeered the Americans' every move.
At the green Gallacher this time conceded Still's putt so that Hill, who had a chance to win the hole, could not see the line. That brought some more comments from Still, who delighted in the fact that his partner still made the putt, while Hill allegedly told Gallacher: "If you say one more word I'm going to wrap this one-iron around your head."
The atmosphere not surprisingly remained tense for the remainder of the match, which the Americans won on the 17th, and Hill refused to shake hands with the referee.

and ev'ry time you move
You let a little more show.
There's something you can lose - so don't say no
Mickey.
So come on and give it to me anyway you can
Anyway you want to do it
I'll take it like a man.
But please
baby
please don't leave me in this jam
Mickey.
Oh Mickey
what a pity you don't understand. . . .
Oh Mickey
what a pity you don't understand. . . .
Oh Mickey
what a pity you don't understand. .
two things really
Firstly does anyone know if the Green Brigade (they do a superb job with the atmosphere it has to be said) will be doing anything to combat the increased scrutiny we will be under on sunday with regards to songs and chants? They start alot of the songs at away games so just wondered if they are being proactive with any banners or strategy to avoid any 'news' in the monday red tops?
secondly, and I'll grant you I don't believe everything I read, but if they stories coming to light about WGS treatment of McGeady arre even half true I'm finally at breaking point when it comes to his management tenure. If McGeady is indeed being sibngled out by strachan and pendry get them tae f...rance he is,behind the holy goalie, our top asset and a true Celtic man. I'm sure the donkeys WGS persists with don't get the same treatment as they are amazed they get a game so don't want to rock the boat. Guys like McManus and Hinkel I could understand as they are dreadful players but mcgeady is our shining light when it comes to pure, beautiful, inventive football as the great man once said.

donegaldanny the headlines are designed to get you to breaking point. We don't want to be there , if you don't remember it yourself talk to people who do.
To go from Aiden superstar sign him up for 5 years and hes our creative force to lets bully the wee boy and leave him on the out of the tea breaks is just not real . Have you asked Aiden if he is mismanaged or overcoached when last year he publically praised the coaching . Is he going to be forced to make a statement when it has been tight again in our dressing room . I hope not , let the red tops rage. Not our concern or shouldn't be . Stand up for the hoops . Stand up for Gordon Strachan.
Thanks to all those who offered IT help last night - I'm all sorted out now.
Back when there were problems before with the old blog a poster (can't remember who) suggested adding the URL and IP address of the site to the Hosts file. I did that at the time and it all worked fine.
But I had a feeling that it was now pointing to the old CQN rather than the shiny new super fast site. And I couldn't remember which file I had edited.
Once I was reminded of the correct file name I deleted the info I had put in previously and now all is fine.
So I can now post rubbish all day from my PC as well as in the evening from my laptop - and on the move from my BlackBerry!
Couldn't care less if the manager has fallen out with Aiden McGeady. And I can well imagine Mr Stein falling out with Jimmy Johnstone. In fact, I'm sure he did. Jimmy talked about it himself and there were times when he deserved to be dropped, just like McGeady the other evening. He has been very poor so far this season. Mr Stein had a dictum which he seemed to go by: horses for courses.
It's the manager's job to pick the team he thinks will do the business. That's why he has the job. Anyone who reads this blog knows I have big problems with our current manager's selections but I wouldn't begin to dispute his responsibility for doing it; nor have I been one of those calling for his head. His record speaks for itself.

Heh, think you have got the GB all wrong if you think they would even consider telling fans what they can and can not sing.
I trust that the odious chants which some of our support indulge in will be conspicuous by their absence on Sunday. 4pm suits me down to the ground, although I would love to be able to watch the Ryder Cup too but Celtic always comes first last and always.

Yes but i've heard aiden say it himself that he and the manager are often at loggerheads and tommy burns RIP had to be the buffer between them. I've also heard rumours other instances when Gary Pendry has been on McGeadys back. If its true I think its a disgrace.
Parkheadcomesalford
indeed his record speaks for itself but when he continues to play donkeys such as 'big mick', hinkel, naylor etc can you see my point that singling mcgeady out would be disgraceful management?
Morning all,
First off, good luck with the 5 a side tournie. I hope its a huge success.
I haven't heard the rumours of the AMcG/Strachan fallout. I certainly hope this is only the usual media anti-Celtic propaganda. With the likelihood of Naka leaving in January any thoughts of a major rift between the two would be like Celtic committing hari kari with our season. A lot on here critisise him for what I can only see Aiden trying to play his game...a game that his team mates find hard to keep up with. I firmly believe this media story is absolute crap but if true then the club would be wise to sort it out quickly.
I do not believe any player should be undroppable and hope this is an attempt by WGS to get Aiden to concentrate on getting back to last years form.
If worst came to worst we would sorely miss one of the very very few shining lights in a very mediocre squad. The fallout between Gordon and the support would be huge if Aiden was forced to leave Celtic.
But, as we all know, the media will make mountains out of any Celtic mole hill they can find...so I have no real fears that this is any more than a minor spat.
Paul67, any confirmations on this story?

Joe Parkhead Your introduction of the poison the hun spout about Jock Stein is a disgrace. Shame on you
donegaldanny if you have heard it from Aiden face to face then fair enough may be some truth in it , still one side of the story , Aiden is our shining light no doubt but like DublinBhoy says he's not undroppable and he has a responsibility to work with the coaches and manager , take competition on and prove he's a great Celt. Thats what he gets paid for and what he must want for himself. Aiden McGeady prima dona might be nowhere near as good as Aiden the Celt. In any case should be in the dressing room not in the rags where it is a loss for us no matter what.
For those who give too much credence to the terminal effects of a 10-a-penny football ground bust up, it should be pointed that any irrevocable break down in the Strachan- McGeady relationship must account for the fact that he was included in the bench selection and played on Wednesday as a sub. I would presume he was, therefore, included in the team preparation for that match.
If he was punished in the way described after the Rangers match, then there are a range of possibilities:-
1) Aiden was singled out because of his play and WGS is, therefore, a bad man manager.
2) Aiden reacted to being invited to the match debrief and told WGS that he did not need the feedback as it was the fault of other players therefore, Aiden is a Prima Donna and WGS acted appropriately.
3) Aiden said something untoward to the manager who exercised a brief no frills sanction and the matter was closed.
And you know what. I don't want to know which of these broad option scenarios is correct and I don't think we, as a support, need to know either.
Only if it does lead to a January 2009 departure for Aiden, would this be an important event and, even then, that may be the timescale which Aiden envisaged for leaving anyway. Remember, it is an open secret that he wants to play in Spain in the near to middling future. Yet, under WGS, he signed an extension so that, if he does leave, we will get market value for him rather than a cut price deal.
So, I'd ask our support to refrain from rehearsing their criticisms of WGS, or Aiden, until this becomes a problem. There is a strong possibility that this is a commonplace football work occurrence. Gossip and speculation cannot help things here.

GOING BATS AT THE BELFRY....
Seve Ballesteros had already helped Europe win at home and away when he came up against feisty debutant Paul Azinger in the lead-off singles at The Belfry in 1989.
Apparently the American had been warned to be on his guard for something out of the ordinary and on the second green Ballesteros asked to change his ball, claiming it was cut. Azinger did not think it was bad enough and nor did the referee when he was called in.
To the crowd - already very much on the Spaniard's side, of course - the dispute made them even more boisterous and things reached a crescendo on the last when Azinger drove into the lake.
Ballesteros, one down, was safely over, but looked across and was shaken when his opponent was given a drop in a place where he could reach the green. It actually found a bunker, but Ballesteros then went in the water and lost.
He could not help noticing that when Payne Stewart and Mark Calcavecchia also failed to make the carry with their drives shortly afterwards they were not able to do what Azinger had done.
"I didn't put too much attention to what he was doing," he said later. "He was trying to drop his ball and I was concentrating on my shot, but looking back I have the feeling that something was wrong." The referee, of course, had approved Azinger's drop, but Ballesteros was not going to forget what happened.
THE WAR ON THE SHORE
The 1991 match at Kiawah Island created enough electricity to light the world. The Gulf War was on at the time and when Corey Pavin and Steve Pate took to wearing camouflage caps what was meant to be purely sport had too much of a confrontational atmosphere for many people's liking.
A local disc jockey thought it a fun idea to call members of the European team in their rooms in the early hours - "wake up the enemy" - and the tension was such that the match badly needed to be controversy-free. But it was not.
Ballesteros and Jose Maria Olazabal took on Azinger and Chip Beck in the opening foursomes two years on from the acrimony between Ballesteros and Azinger.
On the seventh tee Ballesteros noticed Beck had changed the type of ball the Americans were using. It could have meant loss of hole under the rules, but nothing was done until captain Bernard Gallacher, alerted to the situation, spoke to officials at the turn.
"We made a mistake, but we certainly weren't cheating," said Azinger, to which Ballesteros replied: "It has nothing to do with cheating. Cheating and breaking the rules are two different things."
Coincidentally or not, the Americans, who were ahead at the time, lost the match, with Beck saying that Ballesteros' constant coughing had bothered him and Azinger labelling him "the king of gamesmanship". Ballesteros later stated: "The Americans were 11 nice guys and Paul Azinger."
When Pate, injured in a car crash before the event, played on the second afternoon and then was omitted from the singles, thus securing him a halved match, people wondered if it had been done tactically, then there was the suspicion that as the match boiled to its climax Hale Irwin's final drive was helped back into a good position by the crowd.
Irwin got the half the United States needed when Bernhard Langer missed from six feet. A dramatic end to a dramatic and explosive week.

not heard it face to face but on Celtic tv straight from Aiden. well if he's droppable he's way way down the list of people who should've been dropped months ago, mcmanus for starters! oh and the rich mans tommy graveson scott brown.

Aiden has repeatedly praised Gordon's managerial ability in the past so I have no reason to suggest otherwise. It has been well reported that Gordon pushes him harder than most simply because he knows he can go far in the game. Aiden has said the manager has done the right thing and that it has made him a better player as a result and that it has helped keep his feet on the ground.
The players regularly praise his man management skills, why is there such a rush to believe the red-tops who repeatedly lie? It wasn't that long ago that Scott Brown was supposedly being forced out which had all the fans in umbrage as well.
donegaldanny,
The reason CQN was founded was to combat lazy journalism. To express your fears on here that a rag that I wouldn´t use to wipe the Rangers support mouth with is doing the whole blog a disservice. This was the rag that was centrally involved in extension gate, Thieves and Murderers, astounded of forehead etc. etc. etc. etc. therefore to have them to even "half" set your agenda is very perplexing. It´s akin to only cleaning one cheek after you have had a lengthy dump. Lazy journalism is not to be repeated or given any fraction of credence on this blog and I´m sure the host would agree.

Awe Naw
Paul,
Having seen the admittedly mixed standard of play at the last CQN fives, I feel many of us felt we were either too old, unfit or unskilled to last in a tournament format in such company? I am not trying to deter anyone from entering the main tournament by inflating the skills level. If you are a reasonable player and can last, at least 3 short matches, you will do fine in the main draw.
However, for those who do not fit this criteria and fancy a quick game, is there an option of having use of one of the hired pitches for an hour to stage an uncompetitive match allowing the over 45's, the aerobically challenged and the diddies to get a game, even if they want to limit their participation to 10 minutes. You would not need any pre-team selection. Just 1 set of bibs to discriminate between teams and one Pitchside organiser to collect entry donations and rotate subs. Of course this group should finish their activities before the main tournament final so that there is a crowd to watch the better, younger players.
What does the blog think of that idea?

You want to be the best player you can be, so I’ve worked and am still working on lots of aspects in my game,” McGeady said. “I want to be quicker and stronger. My final ball still has a lot of work to be done on it, and I want to score more goals. As people say, the more you practice, the luckier you get.
“The fact that I have played so many games – over 100 now – while still being so young is a good thing. I’ve played in Europe and in international matches as well, so I’ve got that experience. I’m learning and I feel I’ve still got a long way to go.”
McGeady points to his current manager at Celtic as the man who has aided his game’s development. “Maybe it’s about getting older and realising how you have to play the game,” he said. “Gordon Strachan has not been on my case as much as he used to, even in training, and maybe that’s down to some maturity on my part.
“I now know not to try to dribble with the ball when there’s a lot of players around me, and to move the ball on early, and in a one-on-one situation, to try to be more direct. I think that is the main thing that has changed in my game.
“If the manager is on your back quite a lot, it shows he feels you’ve got more to give and has faith in you. It means he believes you’re a decent player, that you’ve got more to add to the team. Sometimes he’s been quite harsh, but that’s how managers are – they don’t always have to be nice. They are just trying to get the best out of you.
“Looking back [Strachan] did have a point. I was running too much with the ball and trying to take on too many players. He also told me there wasn’t enough end-product, which was true. So now in games I’m trying to create goals and score goals – that’s the main part of my game now.”
Not for a first time at Celtic, the differences between Strachan, the hands-on training ground coach, and Martin O’Neill, the more distant, iconic presence around his players, became obvious while listening to McGeady.
“Don’t get me wrong, it was good under Martin O’Neill,” he said. “I was surprised by the number of games I played under him, so I’ve got a lot to be thankful to him for. But in terms of styles, the manager now is much more hands-on, in terms of coaching and training.
“Martin O’Neill was slightly different. You’d maybe only see him around the training ground once or twice a week – John Robertson or Steve Walford would take the training. It was also slightly strange when Martin came into the dressing-room. He’d just come in and read the team out, then walk out and come back half an hour before the game to give a motivational speech.
“With Gordon it’s been different. He does one-on-ones with you, and I’ve learnt from him, and am still learning. I’ve taken on more responsibilities as a player.”
Strachan, too, spoke yesterday about his direct involvement in helping to raise the bar of McGeady’s already exciting game. It was, in some senses, an arduous business.
“I used to take Aiden in the afternoons and sit with him in front of videos for hours on end,” Strachan said. “When you see ability like that, you have to find a way of getting the best out of it. There has been a lot of straight talking with Aiden, but I’d like to think a lot of decent talking as well. People associate me with screaming and shouting, but it’s not been like that.”
McGeady is now free from suspension and is expected to swiftly return to the Celtic team, perhaps as swiftly as tomorrow afternoon at Falkirk. The player is, though, savouring his long career ahead of him.
“Most players would say you are at your best at 28 or 29 – that’s when you’re meant to be at your best, your most mature, and your strongest physically,” he said. “I’ve obviously had a lot of experience already, but 27 or 28 should be my peak.
“If you play for the Old Firm – no disrespect to the other teams – it is tough. It’s easier to play at a team like Hibernian or Falkirk, because you’re not expected to win every week. Here at Celtic, if you go one or two games with bad results, it’s a crisis. So there is a lot of pressure, but I think I’m learning and improving, I hope.”
Is Joe Parkheid at the wind up?
The CQN Five-a-side do the CQN team have new strips to go with the new colour scheme of this Blog?
Hello.
I'm just back form my trip and am a little out of the loop tic wise, (although thanks to CQN not completely) having saw my first game in 4 months at the weekend I was surprised at how well celtic played & that Aiden was not playing.
Due to lack of funds I didn't go on Wednesday but I didn't think Aalberg played as well as the commentators would have you believe, my blind nephew might be forgivin for thinking they were all over us the way they were going on.
All said though I think McGeady should have been on sooner and that maybe gives some extra wieght to an article without quotes.
Donegaldanny,
Please dont put words in my mouth. What I´m saying is that the Daily Rectum is an Anti Celtic newspaper and that you as a Celtic supporter shouldn´t be picking up on their agenda.
Let me put another spin on it. WGS and SAF don´t see eye to eye if the Rectum promised you that AmcG and WGS were to go a similar path of success in their present respective careers would you be made up about it or dismiss it as bunkum.
Here´s hoping the well hump the Gers and Aiden gets a hatrick against Kille?
HAil Hail
Greetings one and all.
It's been a while since i last posted but have still managed to keep up2 date with most articles.
I think i'll take this AMcG v WGS spat with a pinch of salt. If AMcG was dropped based on recent performances then i can fully see why, originally i thought he was rested along with Naka due to the internationals before....
Most of the articles newspapers print are just to stirr up controversy and hope for reactions like the ones on this thread.
Players and managers fall-out regularly and for the papers to announce it days after a not-so-great night in europe is all just a coincidence dont you think ;-) IMO AMcG surely has more sense than to announce a spat with the manager to the media.

"THUNDER" BOLT MEETS HIS MATCH
"YOU CAN HAVE THE HOLE AND THE CUP"
GOING BATS AT THE BELFRY
Seve Ballesteros had already helped Europe win at home and away when he came up against feisty debutant Paul Azinger in the lead-off singles at The Belfry in 1989.

Irwin got the half the United States needed when Bernhard Langer missed from six feet. A dramatic end to a dramatic and explosive week.
BAD FORM AT BROOKLINE
From an American standpoint it was the greatest comeback in the history of the contest. From a European standpoint the event had just witnessed its most shameful scenes ever.
Winning had come to mean so much that in the heat of the moment Justin Leonard's 45-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole at Brookline in 1999 - after he had been four down earlier and the team had been four points behind overnight - sent the home camp into delirium.
Nobody could really have objected to the wild celebrations if the putt had been for victory. All it had done, though, was put the United States on the verge of a memorable victory.
Jose Maria Olazabal still had a putt to keep everything alive, but he had to wait to take it because of all the commotion - and then missed it.
In a sport which places so much importance on etiquette and behaviour the Americans involved were heavily condemned for their actions and one player in particular bore the brunt of it.
There is one famous photo which shows Tiger Woods airborne punching with delight, but it was Tom Lehman - this year's captain, of course - who was painted as the villain of the piece when Sam Torrance, Mark James' assistant and Europe's next captain, said on Sky Sports: "Tom Lehman calls himself a man of God. His behaviour today has been disgusting."
Even more unsavoury, though, had been the heckling of Colin Montgomerie, perhaps the worst golf has ever seen. His father could not stomach it after a while and came off the course, while James said his wife was spat at.

So a manager and a player don't see eye to eye. Is this a first? Or even a rarity? So why is it a story now? I think we all know the answer to that.
Operation S4IAR is well underway in the media.
If we had humped the Danes the other night it would have been dismissed as a result against a poor side. Now we have pressure on our best player from last season and on the manager.
I'm sure at Lennoxtown they won't be giving a damn about this story. They will be too busy preparing for Killie and the cheating ref. I think Aiden will start on Sunday. let's hope he returns to form immediately to shut the press up.

Just like last season, it has taken no time at all for many supporters to be openly unhappy with our manager.
Do you just want him out, no matter what?
Did you miss the sheer will-to-win, skill and backbone shown at the end of last season? Where were you in April and May?
Can you not see that Gordon Strachan is a winner. A natural born winner. He was as an Aberdeen player and we hated him for it. Now he's on our side, we still hate him for it.
Just like last season. You are helping Rangers.
Every critical word about the team and our manager reduces their confidence and gives Rangers' players and manager a burst of oxygen. Save it for the close season.
The season is underway. Get behind the team. It's the only one we've got.
If you believe anything the record prints about Celtic then you probably also believe everything you read in the Sunday Sport.
A anti Celtic rag whose staff should never again be allowed to darken the doorstep of paradise.
Managers and players fall out all the time. Nothing new in that. Its how matters are resolved that matters. Maloney back at Celtic Park may have upset Aiden. Too bad if thats the case - he'll just have to get on with it. In any case he hasn't kicked a ball since the 5-1 demolition of Aberdeen.
If he was excluded from a team meeting then thats poor management on GS behalf. That being the case then Aiden will be want to be off. I feel he's quite overrated anyway. There wasn't exactly a mad rush of inquiries for him in the summer.
I believe that on an occasion when Jock Stein substituted Jinky he (Jinky) muttered a greeting sotto voce as he walked past the dugout.
Not sotto enough as on hearing it Mr Stein leaped from the dugout whereupon Jinky sped down the touchline as never before with Mr Stein in pursuit (like a reenactment of the tale of the hare and the tortoise).
The discussion that followed in the dressing room was not recorded but I believe it left Jinky fully in agreement with the wisdom of every decision Mr Stein had ever made or would make in the future.

Do I not like that blue, not because its blue. I quite like some blue colours but that one is to bright. Wheres my pacos, people still wear them.
On another note the mayhem in the first half when Celtic looked panic striken was caused by one man and one man alone, the capatan. I like Stephen and his commitment and attitude but should sentiment come into it, no. If there is a better player he should be given a chance.

Ulster-Celt
I'm inclined to agree with spacebhoy. I think the commentators set the tone around the game on Wednesday. Coming out of the ground I turned on my radio curious to know what the take on the disallowed goal was. (I was in the SE corner so was a long way away - & having to listed to the Danish fans who did a rather good immitation of a NF rally, circa 1978.) It took about half an hour to find out about the goal, as Richard Gordon was bethering on about the injustice of the sending off. He really was exercised by the injustice of it. The idea that justice might have been served if the real culprit had owned up did not cross his mind. My recollection is that he said (with what might have been mistaken for undisguuised enthusiasm at the prospect): "At one point, I thought he was going to book Samaras for diving." Eh!?!
When eventually they did mention the goal - because Gordon Strachan mentioned it in his interview - Richard Gordon said he "almost forgot about it" -- his justification being that the Celtic players just got on with the game (as opposed to assaulting the referee, walking off the pitch...). How different from his reaction to Aberdeen's disallowed goal last season, or the Huns' one the other week. No one's claiming it was a great performance, but every opportunity is being taken to talk Celtic down at the moment (Naka leaving, Aiden falling out with the manager) and this may contribute to some over-pessimism.
lanarkcelt,
Get out of my Head!! ;-)
Lurgan53
You make a good point there maybe Aiden realises that GS will go for Maloney first. Aiden has not played his best in recent weeks and GS was right to put him on the bench. This should apply to all players though. If it makes Aiden come back stronger and better then we can have no complaints. He should just get his head down and fight for his place.
By donegaldanny
Yes but i've heard aiden say it himself that he and the manager are often at loggerheads and tommy burns RIP had to be the buffer between them. I've also heard rumours other instances when Gary Pendry has been on McGeadys back. If its true I think its a disgrace.
indeed his record speaks for itself but when he continues to play donkeys such as 'big mick', hinkel, naylor etc can you see my point that singling mcgeady out would be disgraceful management?
business.
ok but are you saying there is no truth in these rumours at all even though aiden has said on celtic tv he and the manager don't see eye to eye? irrespective of the news article that itself should add a dash of credence to the idea no?? Lets face it he has previous with the like of Bobo and Graveson.
`
donegaldanny
whats disgraceful? So it might be the case that Aiden and Gordon have had some arguments, you seem to think that this is
a) not normal
b) bad
c) Gordons fault
d) Gordon was at fault too if he disagreed with Bobo and Thomas G
Can you explain because im missing your point.
Having read the whole thread, the articles in the Record posted, both this time and the previous ones where Aiden praised Gordon, can you please tell me why Aiden must be blameless and Gordon at fault?
thanks
p.s. to anyone - how do you do bolding?
madeirabhoy, put <b> at the start of the thing you want bolded, then </b> at the end, so <b>this bit is in bold</b> will come out as this bit is in bold

every crappy footy tribal web site has an anti celtic agenda
lets make no mistake They hate us for daring to besmirch there
detestable club,over the famine song
From phone ins to newspaper articles its been nothing but anti celtic all week,if we even swear or sing anything offensive on sunday ,by god wait till you hear the uproar on monday there PR people were even on websites postng to huns on what to say when using media outlets as mentioned above, let there be no doubt this is a concerted campaign ,to get us so lets be aware of the unseen forces of darkness at work and dont fall into there trap
So lets not be taken in with this divide and conquer tactic and scare mongering thats being implemented ,lets be celtic supporters through and through and lets fight back against this unprecedented onslaught on our beloved club
Arsenal football club have ended their fleeting interest in Celtic Chief executive Peter Lawwlell having spoken shortly with him last week. They have now concentrated all their efforts in capturing the one man that they full expect to take Arsenal above their main rivals Manchester United and Real Madrid in the high stakes multi million pound earning financial arena. Having beaten Real Madrid to the capture of his signature of their new supremo there was more than an element of potato tortilla on the faces of the Real Madrid hierarchy.
A Real Madrid spokesperson angrily revealed "We respect Arsenal and we respect their right to do business how they see fit. We are both in the entertainment business but we are disappointed that they have also decided to make a remake of Carry on Screaming. We will make an official complain to Uefa by letter"
The identity of the new supremo is being kept a closely guarded secret but Record Sports can exclusively reveal that the role of Oddbod has not yet been cast and it is widely expected that the new man will take up the role immediately.
Senor Mc Bain who wouldn´t need to bring any sun tan lotion with him in his new role has played his cards very close to his chest. When asked about his new role he retorted "I think if the ref on Wednesday had allowed the legitimate goal to stand, I wouldn´t be getting this once in a lifetime job today, so I must thank him for his kind efforts"
as told to you by Keech Jackson
Al.obundy
Can't agree with you re Mick. True he was beaten at the centre circle , fouled and received a yellow - rightfully so. But he caused the mayhem in the first half?
What mayhem?
Why him?
At long last, just received my season ticket/cards through the post this morning.
So anyone else waiting should receive them in the next day or two.
Like many others absolutely amazed that Honest Mike is still Grade 1 ref never mind
the fact that he is getting to ref a Celtic game in his comeback.
Paul67 says he has no worries with McCurry on Sunday, well i do.
The man is a cheat with a proven track record.
I hope our singers drop the bad songs on Sunday,as someone earlier posted a 4pm
kick off isnt ideal, meaning another couple of hours in the pub to get tanked up.
loumacaris...,
the main problem is, the people who sing the offensive songs do not log on to sites to disciss these matters, so its unlikely they will desist, IMO, Celtic should take over ticket allocation of away games, without trying to be greedy and wanting a cut which increases the price. That way they will be in full control of who attends away games, and therefore can then sanction offenders.
When will the blue text change to green?
10-14-08........14-10-08
Be ready timverse!!!!!!!
I don’t know about anybody else, but for me, it is not a case of whether I believe what the media are saying, or not; instead it is more a case of whether I care what the media are saying, or not. More to the point, AS WE ALL KNOW, more often than not, it is not what the media are reporting that is meaningful; it is what they are conspicuously not reporting , that is most salient. So with their selective ‘reporting’ and partisan ‘omissions’ I personally will extend them little, if any, credence, in all things Celtic related.
So with that in mind, could somebody please explain to me what particular day in May is it now?
Why have the City of London police not returned the hard drives back to Ibrox?
Why have the Cheshire and Strathclyde police forces not yet identified, arrested, and prosecuted, individuals who were active in the Manchester Riots? Riots that were so reminiscent of 1985 and the violence witnessed in Brixton and Broadwater Farm (London).
Why have Strathclyde police not advised Mr. Bain and Rangers Football club what actions to take the next time their supporters gorge themselves on sectarian bile?
When are Rangers Football Club going to publicly release the findings of its investigation into the singing of bigoted and sectarian songs by the ‘official members’ of Rangers Football Club, that attended the closed doors game in the San Siro?
When will Rangers publicly disown the whorish, BJK knew, bile?
Etc. Etc.
Now other Celtic supporters may choose to ignore all these, and more, non-stories and focus on the mischief making that is so painfully transparent from the laptop loyal.
(Can anybody actually tell me if any of the ‘laptop loyal’ actually has a journalistic degree to his or her name?)
Only for some, it is transparently obvious that the transparency is not bloody obvious enough.
So just for them, those insidious grubs (the media), that wouldn’t know what a pen and ink felt and smelt like, are playing with your fears. They are playing you of against your concerns and your perceived fears. Moreover, you are buying into it hook, line, and sinker.
madeirabhoy
well because aiden is one of our best players and if wgs strachan forces him out like he did with tommy g and ultimately bobo it'll be a disgrace.
The bobo matter is a different thing entirely but since you brought it up, celtic were desperate for him to sign that contract and now that he sits tight he's made a scapegoat?! he's still the most commanding central defender we have but wgs bad case of small man syndrome means he's left out of the champions league squad?? whats that all about? yet 'big mick' who couldn't win a header against shaun maloney is our captain and seems infinately undroppable! explain that one to me!

Lynott67,
My TimCard has just arrived too.
Morning post at 1:30pm. What's the world coming to??
hope my Timcards are waiting for me when i get home tonight..
donegaldanny:
are you sure it is wee Gordon Strachans fault that Bobo is not featured more.
I am big, big fan of Aiden McGeady, Bobo Balde and Gordon Strachan and I would not bad mouth any of them without all the facts and most definately not following a snide media report.
Kitalba,
Totally agree with u there
Just to clarify my offensive songs point, the songs may be offensive but not illegal.
Kitalba,
well said that man, I refuse to even discuss the drivel so many people are getting so worked up about, I am begining some of the guys are lacking the basic's when they allow the laptop loyal set their agenda.
I think I speak for all of us when I say:
Couldn't care less if you never visit
donegaldanny - Jeebus wept - revisionism is kicking in even earlier than normal these days - Tommy G? Is this the same guy that, 2-3 performances aside, ran about like a headless chicken for his entire time at Celtic Park?!?! Only one person "forced" Graveson out of Celtic - at that was Graveson himself, due to his frankly woeful perfomances.
and on Bobo - "still the most commanding central defender we have" - is that so? I couldn't comment, because aside from 1 fleeting appearance around christmas 2007/new year 2008, I haven't seen him play for at least a year. Have you?
Only at this club would the fact that a manager just doesn't fancy a player be enough to herald calls for his sacking. Sad to see that the red-tops can still provoke such revolt against a manager from unsubstantiated, and probably fabricated, reports.
Canalmar,
lacking the basics or in synch with that agenda ?
and errrrrrrrrrmm why ?
kitalba
can you offer your thoughts on why bobo balde has been left out of the champions league squad then? given that we have him til at least January now and we need to pay him regardless isn't it folly not to have him as back up at the very least?
Don't get me wrong I certainly hope the story is a total fabrication but somehow I feel there is a bit of truth to it. we'll see on sunday I guess.
What price loovens in for mcmanus? more chance of balde playing up front if you ask me, does strachan get on 'big micks' back I wonder?
There was a comment my mate made about riorden that could sum up the Balde situation. "The less he plays the better we remember him"
He still visit's Ipox and listens to their bile, funny how that's not mentioned. Bigots not welcome Mr Reid.
Celtic visit is 'unlikely' for MP
Mr Campbell believes visiting Parkhead would send out the wrong message
Northern Ireland's sports minister has said he is unlikely to accept an invite to visit Celtic Football Club.
He wrote to the the club's chairman and former NI secretary John Reid to complain after IRA songs were sung by fans at a game.
The ardent Rangers fan had been invited to Parkhead after he and his wife were subjected to sectarian abuse on a ferry crossing to Scotland.
Mr Campbell was writing in his capacity as an MP and not sports minister.
Earlier this week, the Irish government raised concerns about sectarian chants by Rangers fans at an Old Firm game.
The East Londonderry MP said he felt Rangers had taken steps since the game to tackle the issue, but demanded more action by Celtic.
He added that he believed visiting Parkhead at present would send out the wrong message.
"If I were to take up the visit now, it may be totally counterproductive given what I have been informed of in recent times," he said.
Mr Campbell said although he was not planning to visit Parkhead, the IRA chants meant any future visit was now less likely.
"It's probably made things a bit worse," he said.
But he insisted he was not "setting preconditions" to visit the football club, but added more action should be taken against the small number of fans involved in the chanting of IRA songs.
Mc Manus and Caldwell have played at a higher level than Bobo and more regular. If it wasn´t for Bobo maybe he could have played at that level himself.
Donegaldanny,
That´s Aiden, Tommy G, and Bobo balde today
Big Mick, Naylor and Hinkel labelled donkeys
Celtic manager and assitant manager labelled a disgrace
What are you wanting to beat WGS up with next ?
Suggestion: Walters Smiths Glasgow Derby record ?
Hail Hail
awe naw
that doesn't explain why he's been left out of the champions league squad this year though does it?
Spaceboy
last season I was at tannadice when bobo came back into the side, he was superb in the air that day and even levien said that when he saw his name on the sheet he had to change his entire gameplan, which I assume was crosses into the box because caldwell and mcmanus are, lets be honest, dreadful in the air as was shown in the old firm game most recently but has been evident for yonks.
even paul lambert recently said when bobo played both he and lennon felt more comfortable when they saw a ball flying over them as 99% of the time bobo would win it.
DD
Bazzabhoy, I obviously wasn't in goals for that one.
Last time I kicked a ball on Glasgow Green, Iggy Pop was going nuts in the background...
donegaldanny,
aye it does
Canamalar-
Good point you raise ,if only more of our support read sites like this,
then they might realise that the laptop loyal are having a field day over the Novo song and such like.
They have appointed McCurry on Sunday to try and get the away support to rise to the bait,
no other reason.
A few bad decisions and they could well get get their intended reaction.
Saying that, the Celtic support never cease to amaze me and i hope thats the case on Sunday.

sorry I forgot everythings perfect eh? we are the best team in the wor-ald!
sorry mate but there is evidently issues that need to be discussed as strachan doesn't seem to know his best team after three years. Just voicing my opinion if you don't agree, thats your entitlement but don't put words in my mouth.
Not following blindly CSC
Donegaldanny,
you take your lead from the Rectum or The Retard then that´s your choice. Seems apt to me.
Hail Hail
I take it that's the teamcards delivered, I think thats the wee fellas in now but waiting for him to open it.
Looking forward to the 5s, should be a good day out!
Lynnot - Good point. Considering who is at the top of the pile in the SFA, and who the king of the whistlers is, I have no doubt that McCurry was handpicked for this game simply in the hope that his performance or even his appearance provokes our support into a vocal response which will give them all the ammo they need.
Donegaldanny:
Mate I could offer you my thoughts on Bobo Balde if you really want to hear them but before I do bear in mind it is just my thoughts and I am not privy to all that goes on at Parkhead that dictates whether a player gets a game or not. On that basis I would hesitate to casticate any one individual for what I might not agree with.
Bobo Balde: Well to begin I would have him in my team every week, but only if I had a pacey sweeper playing behind him.
I like the man, always have. I am aware of his strengths and I am aware of his limitations. He is big and strong, and committed, and fearless, and he likes Celtic, but he is not Franz Beckenbauer.
I’ll be sorry to see him go.
I don’t know what has gone on, but I have to believe that those in power are doing what they believe is best for the team and the club.
If for one moment I didn’t believe that, then I would return my season ticket and I would not be spending all my free time, getting fat and flustered on here.
Mate we all have frustrations but if you don’t mind a wee word of advice… don’t let that feral media dictate your thinking.
awe naw
very apt you should lower yourself to name calling, grow up eh.
This site isn't the celtic view the last time I checked if people want to air their views about the team and you don't agree you turn to childish name calling? bravo, well done.
DD
Keep hearing about the Old Firm game and how we were terrorised in the air by Rangers, just to note
With Bobo in the team:
The First goal goes in;
The Second goal goes in;
The Third goal goes in; and
The Fourth goal goes in.
The 'Bobo would have dealt with Cousin' is a myth, that is not where we lost that Old Firm Game.
Bobo's fabled 'return' at Tannadice also coincided with the best refereeing decision of the year in our favour. Great player in his day, where I stood up for him against alot of Celtic fans, but that day has past.
kitalba
well put, respect your point of view, agree on bobo re the playing side, but after the transfer window farce i've lost faith in the people at board level are looking at whats best for the playing squad at least. The balance sheet seems more their concern which is frustrating i'm sure you'll agree.
DD
Donegaldanny,
Its about opinions (note plural)
where did I call you a name or put words in your mouth ?
I was just pointing out that you taking your lead from the Daily Retard even if you only half believe seems appropriate for what you bring to the table. Which is to continually slag off Celtic.
Thats only my opinion.
And thanks your very welcome.
4 in a row ... here we go Great innit ;-)
losing faith in the boardroom but still half believing Keech Jackson ??
FaithfulThru&thruCSC
Awe_Naw,
I can see your point with the in-synch as there are a few agents provocateur in on that subject.
My reference to the basics is aimed at people who should be/are aware of how we are portrayed by the laptop lapdogs, but continue to follow their agenda, does that make it any clearer ??
hail hail
donegaldanny,
you argue like a hun.
canamalar,
I got you the first time and with you all the way. It seems there are those supposed Celtic supporters that would rather believe Murray laptop loyal even only half way than some of our own.
It´s difficult to believe huh ?
Hail Hail
donegaldanny:
again mate I just don't know. I have to, have to because it is important to me, believe, that Celtic and all our employees tried their level best to enhance the team.
I believe it just did not happen. Not because for the want of trying but probabley because we just can't afford it.
One thing you must keep in mind is that if the 'board' are in it for the money (which I personally don't subscribe to) then it is in their best interests to have the best possible team in place at all times.
Mate we are a massive club with limited revenue streams. We've just got to accept that and lobby for a fairer system.
NORTH ATLANTIC LEAGUE? That would do me too.
canamalar,
Top of the class if pass go collect 200 ;-)
Paul67.
More outside sports activities other than the vagaries of champions league football.
I had every intention of going to the last Five a Side competition but it was not to be,I remembered seeing some Photographs of said competition and it looked quite an exciting day,But The picture I remembered most was SFTBs sitting forlorn and all on his lonesome,I think this year I'll join him in a beverage or three.
I didn't enjoy our first outing in this years CL,I think the team went on the park feeling the same way as I did,It was going to be an easy game.
We should have won but we didn't.the only consolation is the four teams in the group are still level and all to play for,There surely must be someone in the team who can take a penalty with a bit of consistency, didn't Naka score from a penalty for Japan in his last game.
I can't believe that the support starts these stupid chants calling for a player who's sitting on the bench to be given a game,it can only be detrimental to the players on the park,And for sure it's not doing the player who they want on the park any favours.
Isn't any surprise to me that the rags have a story out this morning about unrest between A McG and GS,I read the story on newsnow-Celtic this morning, just to see where the story came from,Surprise surprise ,it didn't eminate from the two protagonists,Aiden or Gordon,Mind you I'd have been astounded of forehead if they had went to that rag to submit an expose.I'll take that story with a pinch of salt, thank you.
Aiden hasn't been playing well this season and he was deservedly dropped,he'll come back a better player when he returns to form,If I was going to call for a player to bring on it would have been Crosas, but I don't do these silly and detrimental chants they do know one any good.
Joe Parkhead.
I don't know whether you didn't realise what you had written,or you did know what you had written, and were trying to wynd everyone up,it was in very bad taste, and am glad that you have removed your post,or, Paul has done the right thing and expurgated the article for you,a little thought into what you write saves a lot of grief in the end.
I am all for funny names concerning the tabloids but not with the use of 'Daily Retard'
Donegaldanny
I agree he had a good game that day and many others in a celtic shirt, but i don't know if he's the answer to our problems basically because I've not seen him play very much in the last two years.
I know its a cop out, like saying he's watched every day in training but I'm not sure he would have been as good after a few weeks. Players are capable of having coming in and having a good game and when they get a run the momentum fizzles out, I think this would happen with Balde.

"With Bobo in the team:
The First goal goes in;
The Second goal goes in;
The Third goal goes in; and
The Fourth goal goes in."
You can not make a statement like that in a factual manner, it is pure speculation on your behalf
As i said this is just my speculation as his first team chances have been limited in recent years
oh right so i'm a hun now am I? And a'supposed' celtic fan?
well this 'supposed' celtic fan will be at Kilmarnock on Sunday and was at Motherwell last week but hey everyone has their opinions
it seems if they don't agree with you two they're huns or not celtic fans oh well!

donegaldanny,
just about everybody on this site knows how I feel about the Celtic board and I've had quite a few ding dongs over it. I do not believe DD has Celtics best interes at heart, and the rest of the board have DD's best interest at heart with Celtic second.

Agree 100% with your statement, there are problems with the team on the pitch, no left back, poor centre halves, worrying result midweek and against Them two weeks ago. Motherwell was immense first half but second half same old problems from the defence.

The danger that exists in the action of printing false and misleading "News",is Two-Fold... check that.. Three-Fold.
It is Believed by some... and by that action, causes Dissention in the ranks of the Celtic Faithful... As is happening right here, on this very Forum..
And, lastly...
It places the Pea of Doubt, in the Ear of the Collective.
These Three Objectives have be Met, by the recent... FALSE INFORMATION...that is appearing in the Sports Pages.
So, whatever happens in the final denouement of this tale..

Sir Paul and others have constantly advised our Readers to beware of the Wiles and Blandishments of the Siren Press.
This latest episode in the age old art of Calumny and Detraction..mostly Detraction... that is taking form at this time..by the Purveyors of Anti-Celtica..
Has Rory and his minions fingerprints all over.
You my friend, have seen through this lastest attempt of setting the Cat among the Pigeons.. The Pigeons in this case are the easiest of Targets... The Grumbling Group of Dis -Satisfied Celtic Supporters.. who are at this very time, Hoisting their Anti-GORDON STRACHAN'S Banner, Aloft, on account of our recent C.L. Please keep in mind, my friend..this..
A few of the Celtic Supporers who inhabit this sainted spot,in the Blogoshere..are, unfortunately, much too prone to be disturbed and vexed by the reports that they read in the Yellow Press.
In their understanding, they reckon that there is No smoke without Fire..
Therefore, they are inclined to Believe this latest falsity.
This Belief, does not Make them... Anti-Celtic, or secret infiltrators, from the camp of our hated rivals.

I share the same view as others regarding Bobo Balde.Whoever decided that Bobo wasn't to play again has done Celtic a disservice.
Bobo is still physically aggressive, attacks the ball in the air, intimidates opponents and is quick on the ground.I don't need a footballing centre half,a commanding one will do.
Bobo Balde is the last remnant of Martin's great squad. Each year the standards set have been diluted.Bobo played many more good games than bad ones. The same games get flung in the face but they are greatly outweighed by some towering performances.
We have two very ordinary centre backs at the moment.Balde is superior to both even now.
I think donegaldanny may have a point about Gordon Strachan. If your face suddenly doesn't fit then it's exit time. The only thing is Bobo has endured everything tried to get him out of Celtic Park.I wonder what they will try next.
Why should he go to teams that he feels are inferior to Celtic

Celtic Bob - if thats the case then shame on them too. It shouldn't need pressure from the irish Government to propel the Strathclyde Police to pursue the attackers of an innocent member of the public. Wouldn't surprise me though.
Had a wee look on FF to see what our 'cousins' think of it over there. They're all pretty much gutted about the video. As in, gutted that it doesn't show Neil actually getting attacked.
What a lovely bunch of human beings they are.
The Daily Record has zero credibility - anybody with an ounce of common sense knows that - yet we still have guys coming on here quoting the Record as if it were some sort of legitimate news source.
Plus there is no doubt that CQN now has resident huns on here pretending to be Celtic fans. OK so Joe Parkhead has been outed, almost certain though that he is part of a Kojo type coterie.
No offence Kojo, I know you are 100% legitimate.
So taking that into account, and the massive over reaction to the draw with Aalborg where upon the entire playing staff and management have all been called duds, its understandable to be suspicous of certain posters who are relentless in there negative criticism of the bhoys.
Now thats just my opinion and no offence meant to anyone of course, Joe Parkhead withstanding.

Miserable view fae the windae this morning, this weather really starts to get you down, eh. No sign of Bobo and where was McGeadie? Wonder why Gordon and Skippy were jogging in opposite directions around the pitches, was Gordon trying to prove a point, i.e. you’re not fit Skippy when a 50year old with a new hip can keep up with you lap after lap.

I am no 200 yards from the smiddy and have no intention of leaving as the housing market is still very boyant in partick.
Sometimes I think this place gets as paranoid as follow follow. Any time a poster says something they don't like over there they start giving it the 'sniff sniff, I sniff a Timmy' routine. Usually resulting in the 'offending' timposter being banned sine die.
Its a sinister road to be going down. Next we'll be wanting to ban any posters who don't post something that everyone agrees with.

Once Upon a Tim and UNEW MIKE ,ah know Joe Parkhead personally and confirm he is a tim.
I can also confirm that there is a problem with Gordon Strachan and Aiden 100% nailed on.
The complicit BBC are carrying a story about an NI mp who is turning down an invite to Celtic park ,whats sinister about this story is that its from OCTOBER 2007.
Who placed the story ?
Antsman
Every debate about football goes along the same lines, 'if robson scores the penalty we would have won' etc and all are opinion. None of the four goals in the Old Firm game were as a result of Cousin 'Terrorising us in the air or physically'. In fact, Cousin himself isn't terrible good in the air.
Throughout the O'Neill years we were physical - this was both a strength and weakness and Bobo was part of this. I personally never bought into the 'bring back Bobo and we'll stiffen them' mentality because I never thought this was his great ahem 'strength'!

Glad to see someone mentioning the "we were bullied " nonsense at the OF game.
As far as I saw both Stephen McManus and Gary Caldwell stood up to the aerial assault from Cousin. Its complete and utter nonsense to say they were bullied. There's precious little anyone can do if a centre forward is intent on crashing into them at every opportunity. Cousin did this and both players stood up to it, shipped a lot of punishment and gave out as good as they got - winning their fair share of haeders in the process. We were bullied is complete and utter nonsense.
Likewise I have read we were "bullied" in midfield - by Mendez, Thompson, Adam and Davies? Someone do me a favour!! We were OUTPLAYED in midfield that day. If we can't see where the problem is - how can we ever hope to deal with it?

My dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,DEAR, friend... canamalar.
There... Bettah?
A mere over sight..read nothing into my dereliction.
Yes, the suspension of Short Selling, in Financial Stocks, by the British Authorities is correct, although much damage has been done, already, to the values of otherwise perfectly good Stocks,by the Shorts.
I spent a whole bottle of ink... explaining the actions of the Short Sellers, in one of my earliest dissertations in Things Financial..on this Forum.
The Shorts are not One Hundred Per cent responsible for the Calamitous down-turn in the Financials..
But, their Greed and alertness, at making a Fast Buck...kicking a man when he is down...
Have Soitenly Contributed Mightily to the appalling losses that we have seen in Perfectly Good Financial Stocks, that have suffered greatly at their hands.
In the U.S. the actions of the Shorts, by the illegal...but nevertheless... ALLOWED.. practice of NAKED, Short Selling... has contributed to the ACTUAL DEATH... in my opinion... of a Perfectly Sound Financial Institution, and have severely injured ...in some cases, mortally, others.
Note.. in common of garden, Short Selling... the Short , Borrows shares, for a period of time..which he MUST RETURN the Exact Same amount of Stock to the Lender... He borrows the stock, with the object of Selling..in order to cause that stock, to DECLINE in Price...when this occurs, he Buys the stock back at the Lower Price amd makes a profit on the difference..he then Returns the stock back to the Lender as he is duty bound to do.
Howevahhhhh..
In NAKED SHORT SELLING ..the Short... SELLS STOCK THAT HE HAS NOT BORROWED... The whole exercise is based on FICTITIOUS STOCK THAT DOES NOT EVEN EXIST...nevertheless, this illegality has been ignored by the Powers that be..and it has caused panic and is in my opinion..the LEADING CAUSE FOR THE MONUMENTAL TROUBLES THAT HAVE BEFALLEN THE U.S. STOCK MARKET...and has greatly exacerbated the ills that the Financial system had created for itself...However, I believe that the NAKED SHORTS are responsible for multiplying and increasing the panic in Wall Street..and by osmosis... The Rest of the WORLD'S MARKETS.
The U.S. Authorities have only fairly recently DISALLOWED THE PRACTICE of NAKED SHORT SELLING, which was always illegal, in any case...but, now at this late date when the Cuddy is Galloping down the Street..have decided to ENFORCE the rules that already are on the books... Against NAKED SHORT SELLING.
They have now suspended Regular Short Selling,also.. among the Financial stocks, as have the British.
The Markets should now Reflect more stable and Accurate Stock Values.

Why do people rush to dismiss Bobo on the basis of his last performance?
It,s interesting to note that those who are so quick to dismiss him on the basis of one poor performance are the same crowd who react with indignation at any perceived criticism of G Strachans managerial performances.
Don,t know if Bobo is the player he was but the only true way to tell would have been to give him an extended run to increase his match sharpness, timing and communication with team mates.
To judge him on limited appearances is unrealistic.Given how little time our coach has given him in 3 years then you would have to expect he is not the player he once was.
Are the Bobo detractors merely doing so to justify coaches decision in not playing him?
I think we can all agree there was more than just footballing reasons for his omission..
Just emailed the independant.

If Aiden has had a bust up with the manager then the Manager must win. Pure and simple. Aiden hasn't kciked his own erse so far this term. He was dropped on merit. He shouldn't like it. He should get on and train as hard as possible to show the manager he wants his place back not go in the huff. Ihf he has shown dissent then the manager and the club should discipline him. It is what Jock Stein would have done. It is what Martin O'Neill would have done. Any one player should not rule the club....We are not Ran666ers. And Aiden is not as influential as Barry F.
And My Goodness what selective memories we have. Bring back Bobo???? If any of you really think that the Bobo we last saw was somehow far better than GC and SMcM then give me some of what you are on! I am all in favour of Big Mick being rested and Loovens being given a run but Bobo had become a liability and is quite literally bleeding the club. Can't blame him for just taking the money but he would not improve that defence one iota!
Stand up for the champions! Stand up for the 3IAR Manager!

I think Lubo was excluded because of his age and the fact he could hardly play half a game towards the end. He tended to save him for when he knew he needed him.

Your right it is only the managers opinion that counts as he picks the team.
What does matter is that he picks the team according their ability and the interests of the team. I am sure he does.
It seams to me that when a player with a fair bit of talent gets dropped it is reported as being down to personality clashes.
I would choose BBJ
donegaldanny,
no but after three years of success on a pittance of a budget dispensing with Rangers manager after Rangers manager. Turning the club around from being a selling club. Picking out peaches like Naka, Boruc, Mac Donald. Grooming players like Mc Geady and Maloney Delivering on three in a row and taking us to the last 16 for two years in a row and dealing with the media in the consumate way he does I tend to side with him that more than some virtual poster. Especially one that reads the Record ;-)
If you really want to know my in depth opinion of WGS tenure I suggest you trawl through the CQN archives.
Once Upon A Tim agree that a better phrase than bjk could have been used,Joe hasnt a bad bone in his body he would not have meant to offend. On his general point am in agreement if Gordon Strachan benched Aiden for anything other than tactics/loss of form then thats not whats best for Celtic.
On Aidens dip in form, more experienced players than Aiden have suffered a form lapse in the wake of signing an extension to their contract,Tom Boyd Alan Thomson and Neil Lennon being examples.
Players subconsciously relax when their future has been secured,he'll be back to his best soon.
This whole blog is hoachin wi huns, c’mon, your no trying to tell me that the constant daily barrage on here of this wans a donkey and this wans useless and the manager is garbage and we can boo if we like and its right to boo etc etc is aw comin fae Celtic fans?

celtic fc calls for continued positive support
Newsroom Staff
CELTIC take on Kilmarnock this Sunday at Rugby Park and ahead of the game, the Club has called on fans to continue their positive support of the team.
A statement from the Club reads: “We are proud to have such a magnificent support, renowned across Europe for excellent behaviour and clearly, it is important that we preserve this great reputation and maintain these high standards.
“We recognise that there have been reports of elements of inappropriate behaviour at last weekend’s match at Fir Park, and clearly this is something which the Club opposes completely.
“We have worked tirelessly to encourage positive support for the Club, we have taken action against individuals in the past when offensive behaviour has arisen and we will continue to treat this matter very seriously.
“At this weekend’s match against Kilmarnock, we would once again urge any small minority not to tarnish the great name of Celtic Football Club and the great reputation of the vast majority of our fans.
“Let’s keep our high standards which set us apart - get behind the team with positive support as we go for four league titles in a row and continued success in Europe.”
My dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,friend...canamalar.
I am glad you have brought that to my attention, pal.
You have reminded me of what I wrote, when foist we were informed that someone had complained to the Irish Government, about the fact that the G.A, supporters, in Scotland were denigrating and deriding the Scottish decendents of the Original Irish immigrant wave who came to Scotland and were members of the Irish Famine Diaspora.
I remarked at that time,
That The Irish Consul would make that complaint known to the Scottish Parliament... who would graciously listen... and tell him..
Nice Try Pal... But Nae Cigar...
Keep yer cotton picking nose oot o' oor Affairs..
And fur yer information...
The Celtic Support.. ask fur awe they get..
Fur the ur Jist as Bad... wi' their I.R.A. chants ... Honoring they Murderers of Innocent Scoattish Army Lads.
Those are not my exact woids...
But, I did essentially say..that the Irish Complaints would fall on Deaf ears...
And the Scottish Pariamentarians would tell the Irish Consul..
To Take a long walk aff a shoart Pier.
And It shall go ... as I foretold..
Fur ye see...
In essence...
The Scottish Parliamentarians are not wrong in their claim... fur what is Sauce for the Badger... is Goose Gravy, for the Squirrel.. or sumtin' to that affect..( Should that no be "effect"?...ed)(Na..."affect" is the action made.. that PRODUCES..an "effect" to take place...so I am correct in using 'affect'... I have confirmed this wit' Vito.. and he agrees.)

Re:Abbot of Clon.
Agree wholeheartedly as regards your commment on Gordon Strachan words fail me that we have those in our midst who still doubt him,it must stick in their craws' that he's actually become a legend and gave us all the the best comeback ever we will all cherish. As for the spat with Aiden we can all see he has gone off the boil, what is with players once they get these long contracts?
And lets start shouting down those booing the players, my two sons and I don't hesitate to do this from the Jock Stein Upper 439 and were right on the tails of those last year, who started the Strachan get tae ...k! Celtic supporters my arse!!

But I agree they do/will try to blur these lines, but its down to our representitives to make and honour the distinction.

The MLs and its environs are an interesting case study WG
My workplace Thursday morning - the amount of people who discussed the european game involving a Scottish team ran well into double figures
This morning - the amount of people who discussed the european game involving a Scottish team ran well into double zeros. Apart from the smiling Spurs fan from Larkhall - I kid you not one iota - Scottish boy of English father staying in Larkhall who has no interest in Scottish football - or football come to think of it...
And yet the press and the radio press were warbling on about the magnificent result for Motherwell - and we're dead in the water, again. Ah well, could you reserve me a beige egyptian cotton bath towel please...
... Nah just kidding.
Also I think Aiden and Gordon should have a bare chested square go in the car park...
u
I wonder why it is that a free kick given 30 yards from goal is still an issue months later - yet a goal wrongly disallowed in a European tie rates hardly a mention in the media.
Can you imagine if it had happened to the southsiders? OK, first you'd have to imagine that they were still in Europe. But consider what the headlines would have been if they had drawn a game and had a goal wrongly called for offside. And by an Italian ref too!
My dear,dear,dear,friend... Billyimatim
I agree wholehearedly concerning your sterling, and so true ,defense of Mr.Strachan..
He is...and in this... my opinion does not color the fact...
A Great Manager.. Period!
He has earned that Title... by his excellent Guidance, in advancing Our Celtic Heroes.. to Three League Championships in a Row~
including the acquiring of various Cups..to boot.
Howevahhhhhh....
I would be remiss to my own Principles.. if I did not inform you of the following...
It is not in your Purview..or anyone else's, either...
To Prevent a fellow Celtic Fan from expressing his disgust at what he perceives as shoddy Performances by the Celtic Team or an individual thereof.. on the field of play... and that right of the Celtic Fan.. also includes his option of Denigrating the Celtic Manager ..and the Celtic Board...not to exclude, even Hoopy...and right on down...or ...up.. the line, as the case may be or not be.
To Boo, as a form of emphasizing, Disgust and Dis-satisfaction, is an Honorable and Valued method of showing one's displeasure.

I just don,t feel the justification for his exclusion based on very limited playing time is fair.Only the most blinkered Celtic supporter fails to recognise that it,s for more than footballing reasons he was omitted from 1st team.
Those who complained about Porto,s cheating in Seville carefully omit this when using his red card as a stick to beat him.Same with penalty in Lyon as 99 times out of a hundred it would not have been given.
All coaches have players they don,t like so GS has final say.
I prefer Bobo over McManus +Caldwell. That is simply my opinion and i also think we would have been better with a Bobo +O,Dea partnership.
My opinion on our 2 present centre backs is well known on this blog.
If GS had applied the same critical standard to GC and SMcM as he has to Bobo then i have no doubts that Bobo would have been playing over both.

Gordon_J,
No wondering about it; the ref was not best placed, but the assistant was - not the first bad decision on the night, nor the last. The ref's biggest blunder, IMO, was the paltry 3 minutes added on at the end - it took nearly that for the wrong guy to walk.
The fact that there was hardly a mention in the media was disappointing, but expected; the boo boys at both halftime and fulltime were the biggest disappointment for me however. Okay. so we move back outdoors to a very big car park and give them each a water cannon on a big tank and they have to direct the ball into the goal with it. They are also allowed three go's at hitting their opponent on a bull's eye painted on his bare chest.
Ok so red tops and field day. But it would be worth it. They could charge an entrance fee and give the monet to Glasgow the Caring City.
Monet should be money of course. Art and lucre, so intertwined

Northern Ireland's sports minister has written to Celtic chairman and ex-NI Secretary John Reid in protest at pro-IRA songs sung at a game last week.
Rangers fan Gregory Campbell wrote the letter in his capacity as a DUP MP.
Mr Campbell said he felt Rangers had moved against sectarian chanting following a recent Old Firm game and he called on Celtic to follow suit.
He said that in his letter he had praised both clubs for their efforts in tackling sectarianism.
It follows concerns raised by Irish diplomats with the Scottish government earlier this week over Rangers fans chanting a controversial song about the Irish potato famine.
Rangers chief executive Martin Bain reiterated the club's commitment to combat racist behaviour, while also expressing frustration that its supporters were being singled out while similar chants by fans at other clubs escaped censure.
Mr Campbell said he had written to Mr Reid to complain about IRA songs sung by Celtic fans at a game against Motherwell last week.
He said the letter was prompted by complaints he received from CONSITUENTS.
Seen the statement re: bigot Campbell's letter on the Celtic site? I think THIS is when the Dr and the SSM start to earn their wages. Bring it on...

a question about the cctv images regard lennon's attackers.
i read an article in 'monthehoops' which goes:
"Today saw the release of the CCTV footage of the possible attackers of our 1st team coach and MonTheHoops Honorary Member Neil Lennon, please make sure you all watch this footage very closely as I'm sure someone out there knows these 2 men who Police wish to speak to. It is understood these 2 men in the footage are not believed to be involved, yet.

On the BBC sectarian chanting story.
The footage they showed was of a youtube posting from a mobile phone with bhoys singing "up the 'RA". Could be half a dozen - who knows. Hardly the same as a totally audible chant picked up on TV and radio microphones from yards away. I'm not condoning the singing at Fir Park just putting it into perspective.
Also we totally slagged the Hun supporter who posted a similar thing on youtube as being moronic. Seems like some of our own never learned the lesson.

Anyone got a link to Paul's interview?
I seen Gordon's interview on the TV. While i agree thsat it's his opinion only some of his other comments mystifyed me. The way he was talking, we created a load of chances the other night. I must have been at the wrong game. I agree with him defending his plsyers but i actually think he means it when he says Stephen McManus is good as he's ever been. Him and coaches rae happy with him? Hmmmmm!!
Aalborg had no shots on targets, probably right but they sure as hell managed to open our defence up a few times that a 54 bus could have driven right through the centre, not to metion our marking at set pieces. I reckon we hsould just all forget about it now. Unless and injury or suspension happens he will keep playing his favourite players regardless.
When he does realize and stop burying his head it will probably be too late not just for the season. One day i'll think he'll look back and what if?
I see that apology for an MP, Gregory Campbell, is taking our support to task on behalf of his constituents. Being a declared supporter of EU's lot, would he not be better concentrating on eliminating the racism and supremacism that pervades Ibrox, starting with the infamous Famine Song, with its awful words.
By the way, Joe Parkhead, didn't doubt your being a supporter for a moment. If you have been a regular in the Prince Charlie, you might know John Kelly, whose family lived above it for years. I used to play with John in the spare "grun" between that and the Hall of St Michael's. But that was many, many moons ago, before we were ever Champions of Europe.

Haven't heard our manager's comments myself but I have to echo WGS. I don't subscribe to those who think the likes of Hinkel and Naylor are donkeys. In fact, I think they played fairly well on Wednesday.
Our main failings in my opinion were in CD and midfield. That team opened us up far too easily for the moderate team they are. What Man U and Villareal will do terrifies me. Our captain has to be rested. We need to play Crosas on Sunday. End of story. We have no one else who can pass like he can from a defensive midfield position.
I would also drop MacDonald and let him get fit in the Reserves. He and (possibly) McGeady have to learn that no one is bigger than the team, no matter how good they think they are.
Paul, is it just me or is the blue writing against the green background hard to read?
Not that I have anything against the colour blue you undrstand, but seriously would it pass equality legislation for the visually impaired or just worn out guys like me? It is hard to read.

Oldtim67, as you would expect, the BBC only used a small part of the interview. I’m happy with the edit. They had to respond to the Irish politicians comments today.
Welcome fuctifanno, Giorgios is certainly keen for the ball.
Roberttressell, I’ll fix it.
Oldtim67,
Re the BBC, Completely agree. The BBC website in particular has been reporting for years now with an Anti-Celtic agenda; numerous articles stating "the BBC understands" with no back-up or quotes, has been a regular occurence. They seem to be able to get away with this, without any comeback. In general, the BBC is a standard bearer for responsible reporting, but when it comes to Scottish football they are a laughing stock.
Best way to respond, I think, is to report a complaint to the people responsible, in this case the BBC, directly, and if there is no satisfactory response, take it to an independent authority The Press Complaints Commission or the Independent Broadcasting Authority are the ones I know of. In the BBC Scotland case, the IBA is the best bet, and this may extend to the website "reporting".
So, having just reminded myself of this, I'm off to register another complaint !
Paul,
The document sent to shareholders this morning must cause a bob or two, any chance we could have the option to download as a pdf file and with the savings buy a leftback?

You can do that, all you need to do is register with www.computershare.com/investor/uk/ecomms
with the stuff sent out today there's a letter telling you how to do it.
Goodness gracious me. What a to do. Dearie dearie me. They tell me someone's put wee Aiden's nose out of joint. Well let's hope that's allowed him to take some time out to reflect on why Scotland's player of the year last season is not performing this.
Perhaps he's going through one of his well known phases when he thinks he's better than he actually is. Perhaps someone needs to tell him that even the brightest stars can fade. Focus Aiden please. Open your ears and listen because performance wise for now history is repeating itself and young Shaun has taken your berth simply because more often than not he's more effective than you are.
Let us hope that as with the last time this happened to you, you will knuckle down and come roaring back looking like the player you have always believed you are. Currently you are not performing so if you,ve had some criticism come your way that's simply because it has been deserved.

I think the BBC and others in the media are trying desperately to make this an old firm problem.
It’s no t going to work our songs are not sectarian or racist but I would urge all supporters to be on their guard at Rugby Park on Sunday don’t give them anything at all to hit back with. The FOD are losing this battle on the singing/chanting big time.
The FOD destroyed a prestigious UEFA event but there was little action could be taken against them as it was out with the stadium. Now this racist chanting will eventually be dealt with by UEFA and I suspect what happened in Manchester will still be in the background.
Could the FOD be the first team to be banned from European Football while not actually playing in any of the competitions?

Paul,
Fine words! Good to see you making clear that one club in particular has the most to do, but that others have problems too.
This will be the media's slant as usual: it's an o** f*** problem, not a Rangers one. We need to make sure that we don't give them any opportunity to tar us with the same brush as the southside bigots.
I fully understand the freedom of speech argument that we should be able to sing what we want, and agree that our "party songs" are nowhere near as vicious and vile as theirs.
But the reality is that we have to prove ourselves to be without perceived sin. We have plenty football songs to sing, glorying in the history of our great club. Let's stick to them and leave the bigots to expose themselves as the lowlives they really are.
PAUL 67.

On sunday at killie we will be under the spotlight like never before i would urge all supporters to refrain from the songs and chants that will harm us as a club, we could all debate on here for an age the right to sing political songs that are not sectarian but unfortunately these songs will play into the hun led meedja's hands.
We cannot take the moral high ground when we still have a substanial minority that belt out these unnaceptable songs and chants, at the end of the day these songs do not have any relavance to Celtic FC.

Do you know what I want? I suspect its the same as every other Celtic supporter I know. I want Mr Lawell or Dr Reid to hold a conference. I want either to publically declare that there is no such entity as the "Old Firm." That would mark the first step in removing ourselves from the institution that is rotten to the core. There are many other steps we should take, ie no more shared sponsorship etc etc. But, first things first - NO MORE 'OLD FIRM'!!
paul67, you're much younger than how i imagined you!
i work as a video editor so i know how interviews are cut up.
you came across well which is not easy to do.
did you mean not to mention exactly what rangers 'specific issue' is? or what the 'incident' was?
interesting that they opened with problem song number1- celtic singing 'up the ra' (although it is pretty hard to tell if they are all singing samaras or ra, i'm sure there were a few numbskulls singing ra)
now rangers seem to have been demoted to problem number 2! unfortunately for them there can be no debate as to what they are singing as they seem quite happy to let us know!
closing the piece with the celtic fans singing is an all too obvious attempt to leave the viewers with little doubt of the seriousness of celtic's problem!
mr. campbell is an idiot! how can he pretend to sit there as a concerned individual spouting nonsense with his rangers scarf lying on the table! you would have thought he'd have had the sense to put that away in an attempt to come across as a serious politician without bias! he doesn't have a point to make and comes across as 'whatabouter'.
nice of mr. macaskill to point out rangers good work to combat the problem! the rest of what he said was fair enough.
as the rangers supporter said, it isn't the number of fans singing nonsense that matters i'ts.....er...mmm...er....hmm...er...bad songs??????????????
keep up the good work

Canamalar, thank you for your very kind words. The club sought a lot of advice from fans before commenting on this one. My own view is that this is not our issue and we should resist attempts to make it so.
smashin milk bottles, the incident from a mobile phone posted on YouTube (who on earth does this kind of thing?) was clearly not “Samaras”. The BBC had a duty to report this story and made efforts to do so fairly.
Garygillespieshamstring, cheers.
Gordon J, the question was put about the chant from the Celtic fans (which was reported accurately) and I was given the opportunity to attribute scale of liability.
All clubs do have issues, profanity at football grounds is legendary, much of which I personally find offensive, but this specific issue breaks the law of the land and in the light of Neil Lennon’s serious assault, intimidates people of Irish descent.
albert Einstein, an interesting conundrum, thanks.

tim in the chamber, thanks. For the record, I know for a fact that there will be mobile phones in the hands of young men at Rugby Park on Sunday recording absolutely everything.
The only defence is ‘them too’.
Bill McMurdo :-) Whatever happened to that nice John Collins?
Everybody,
STAND UP.

BILL McMURDO,

Well done Paul for "Standing Up" for the club!
As I said before the line in the sand has been drawn, this is going to be a real battle time to pick who's side your on,with us or against us!
I'm reading between the lines and won't ask you questions that you can't (or don't ) talk about, but at last Celtic are doing something about the bias etc that's been going on.
I'd gather that most of the CQN are right behind you and your efforts.
One last thing what happened to the gelled hair? and where did you get that tie :-~
Asolutely fumin CSC
I didnt catch the news today so just checked out the link to the report.
I cant beleive the BBC subtitled roughly 2 people singing 'up the ra'
They have deliberatley made it lookm like the entire stand were singing that.
Absolutely bottled it from the racist scum and tried a wee equaliser.
Disgraceful

Canamalar....Well Said....
It's Tomorrow Here Already But Ditto What You Stated Buddi....btw Watched Killie v TFOD last Sat and Killie did Try to Play Football....if They try this Against us We Could do a 'Well' against them....IF They try to Play Football....????

Paul67,
Speaking of John Collins. It's a shame he hasn't got another job. Got a lot of time for the guy. Was favourite of mine. Thought he was a tremendous player and just a pity he never kicked around for another couple of years when Wim, Henrik and Lambert came in.
Can't see him been out the game for much longer. Guy has the potential to become a good coach. He's had a good education of Tigana especially at Monaco. Was very unlucky not to get the job ahead of Zola at West Ham. They went for the name.
ALBERT EINSTEIN,
interesting to have a blogger whose cranial capacity would shock even the great j.titor.

Paul
thanks for that reply
By the way, saw the clip of you on BBC, well done, measured but precise and to the point. The ball is definitely in their court.
You are a credit to your site and the folk who contribute.
Many Thanks

john collins would have been an interesting choice for west ham,..although i think he has a strange accent and a very square head.

The point here is folks...

Is John Collins Max Headroom
ALAL
Anyone know what FF are making of the news on BBC?
Paul67 @10.10
Being in row YY of the Motherwell south stand last Sat, I can catagorically state it was "SAMMARAS" being sung by the green brigade and others.
Not splitting hairs but stating the case, perhaps the audio wasn't as clear.
I am not wanting to seem to be on the defensive of our away support, of which I am one, but apart from the BOTOB being aired, regardless of of the political ramifications of that song, we sing songs of our team.
Don't believe the hype of up the ra. (BBC Scot)
IBM.
thank you for the compliment my friend.
i'm keeping my eye on j.titor,
he's definitely one for the future.

you could be right, although i think max headroom had a better grasp of tactics, and would'nt have lost the dressing room.
IBM.
Syllawhowasmince, I’m not comfortable even mentioning the song.
Today’s story was about the Irish politician’s complaint, the BBC had to cover it. In reality, the Rangers incident was included for background information, as it had already been thoroughly reported.
Mick, I dressed for another occasion this morning, had I known I would be on TV I would have worn a lot less blue....
The hair? I changed shampoo. :-)
WGS, aye, Collins was a very special player.
craggy island gaa, thank you very much.
smashin milk bottles, perhaps the guy with the mobile phone was imposing his own words on the recording. Stranger things happen...
Watching the Motherwell game on TV The BOTOB made me shiver.
After the hullabaloo from the previous on here week we were on a loser.
The Sammaras chant has the same connotations as "Edu,Edu" and only needs a couple of pea brains to articulate what we can do without.
Ironbhoy.
To be honest lad's if Collins was in the running to succeed GS i would be very excited.
Paul where was your follow follow counterpart, or couldn't they get an answer at his crypt?
i would be suicidal.
IBM.
looks like the story that filtered through to me last week about mcgeady and strachan has a little substance about it.
my fear is that with tommy now sadly gone the wee man wont have anyone to turn to to help him pick his dummy up,it could go two ways.
WGS if Collins was in the running to succeed GS I'd prefer it was Gerry.
Paul,
Fine contribution on the news this evening.
We need to be on our very best behaviour on Sunday.
Talking about behaviour, did any one else witness the running battle in Nuneaton Street (just off London Road) after the game on Wednesday evening?
Two groups of Celtic "supporters" fought their way down the street knocking lumps out of each other.
That was bad enough however when they started throwing bottles and traffic cones at each other in a road busy with real supporters and cars it is a miracle that nobody was seriously injured.
These morons were aged in their early twenties and although unconfirmed there is evidence to suggest that they were from
the Port Glasgow and Greenock area.
Dateline 24th October 1973.........
European Cup 2nd round 1st leg......
Celtic...0 Vejle (Denmark)...0
Celtic :- Hunter, McGrain, Hay, Murray, Connelly, McCluskey, Johnstone, Hood (Wilson), Dalglish, Callaghan, Lennox.
This performance was described as one of Celtic's poorest ever European performances.
In Billy McNeill's absence, through injury, Jimmy Johnstone was made captain on a night when Celtic "could not mount a charge against a side who defended with composure, skill and commitment".
In a letter to the Celtic View a fan wrote "after the performance against Vejle of Denmark.....it must be pretty obvious to everyone that Celtic are going downhill.
What a performance. It was hard to believe that the Danes were a bunch of part-timers.
Lets stop the kidding, at least four of the team that night fell short of the Celtic standard of recent seasons".
Celtic won the second leg 1-0 in Denmark.
Incidentally, the part-timers knocked St Etienne out in the previous round and Celtic went on to reach the semi-finals of that season's European Cup.

Fair Doos.
If that is/was the case then a banning should be placed on the individual. Self policing. It worked well in Seville.
7000 singing "go home"
One knobhead singing "up thr ra" into his own phone?
Aye...we're as bad as each other!! (stated to me by an english policeman working in glasgow!!)
Once a Bhoy
Funnily enough the racists over at FF are not happy.
They want to know why we cant just get bad press without them being dragged in.
Paul gets few wee mentions.
The gist is;
Celtic fans = Terrorist murderer supporters
R*ngers fans = cheeky wee chappies.pure wind up merchants
Oh and by the way, they've got a new wee famine song

Mr MacMillan, no difference between 1 or 100? Try 5 or 8,000.
Mr Campbell. When the telly people visit you are supposed to tidy up a wee bit. That table was absolutely filthy!!!!
To the 5, please, please, please stop embarrassing the rest of us.
Now Now IBS. The record will put that on the front page tomorrow.
IBS bloody hell sorry mhan.
Nice appeareance on TV Paul, that Rangers guy was a bit rough looking though. I`m glad he was filmed in the daylight:-)
oops sorry,..tom collins.

Hi Paul and all.
A footnote perhaps on the singing debate.
We certainly have far more positive songs about our club than anyone else in Scotland.
Let them gang free on Sunday in Burns' counrty.
From my seat in the lower south stand last sunday I regrettedly heard up the 'ra being chanted in the middle of 'the celtic symphony' and other wolf tones sh1t.
No the away fans didn't sing about paedophiles or a famine which killed a million people.
They did sing many songs about a terrorist organisation and a bullit for a Rangers player.
Instead of thinking 'aye, we're not as bad as them' i wish many would just think 'am i doing something which damages the name of Celtic Football Club - that the Club has told fans on numerous occassions not to do?'.
These neds shame our Club - i wish the chat was all about the sport of football!
ONWARDS WITH GORDON STRACHAN
celticfcnumerouno has a good point.
the footage of rangers singing comes from tv coverage and suggests a great number of people singing for the stadium mics to be able pick it up.
if there was footage like that of celtic fans it would have been used.
that they only have a video taken from a mobile phone by a couple of neds singing add ons suggests there is not much evidence of this being widespread. of course in the context of the report it is used to give the idea of the whole stand singing but this doesn't stand up to serious scrutiny.
our problem is who is going to scrutinize all this? the sfa? uefa? the scottish executive? the police?
or will it all be left to die down?
in saying that i have no doubt whatsoever that dr.reid and mr.lawell will be fighting our corner in the most intelligent and forceful way possible. i don't agree with this need to see them make grandiose public statements as to what they are doing.
whatever mr.lawell's perceived fallings were in the transfer window we are lucky to have a man of his ability running the show. that arsenal were interested in taking him on speaks volumes. it is a serious club. mistakes have been made but in general decisions have been correct in what are difficult times for clubs from outside the big 3 european leagues (england in particular), especially if you don't have a sugardaddy.

I'd be pleasantly surprised with Joan
Joan Collins would be better than big heed johnny. Mind you they might give the job to Leonard Rossiter just to upset her.

TBFTL, Georgiebhoy and McBride who lurks: GIRUY
Pies one and all!!
'The Sammaras chant has the same connotations as "Edu,Edu" '
Im sorry but thats garbage.
For a start theres no edu, edu chant. We all heard loud and clear what they were singning to that tune.
Theres also no connotations to the ooh ahh samaras chant.
If some want to change it to 'up the ra' then we challenge it,thats what happened to the add on in the 'fields of athenrye' and the 'soldiers song' and we dont hear them any more.
The fact that Celtic state they were given no chance to reply to his letter before Mr Campbell went public suggests they see this as another tit for tat, another deflection attempt.
Does that open the door for a public response or is that what this was aimed at drawing?
Regardless they need to bring focus come back to The Famine Song using Mr Campbell's duplicity.
I suggest they ask Mr Campbell since he has chosen to use a friendly and well meaning invite from Celtic to get himself involved in a very public way in the issue of what is sung at football matches, if he would be prepared to condemn The Famine Song and maybe even what he thinks of the appropriateness of the singing of the song that defames the memory of a dead man.
Keep the focus on the TFS, its a big mistake on their part and no amount of deflection should allow it to be sung again.
Evenin all.
Thanks to gerry, I hae just viewed the Reporting Scotland clip.
Paul... very articulate statement, which will no doubt baffle the fallow fallow inbreeders.
As for Gregory Campbell.... came across exactly as I had suspected he would. Rangers scarf and Rangers News on the table. Was that in case we didn't know where he was coming from? Probably there just to make sure that the Orcs would recognise him as one of their own. Gregory, no assistance was needed. We all knew where you were coming from. It was obvious by the nonsense you were talking.
Was a bit disappointed in McCaskill's praise of Rangers "able assistance in the fight eradicate bigotry and sectarianism". Able assistance my erchie.
I actually watched the clip a couple of times and I'm still not convinced that the chant was for the Ra.I thought it was "Ooh Ah Samaras", probably being sung shortly after he had scored in that game. The guy who provides the subtitles obviously heard something I didn't. Or maybe heard what he wanted to.
Personally I think Celtic are handling this whole situation magnificently. The statement Celtic have released, has been worded perfectly and I would hope that once all things have been considered, a more definitive response will refer not only to the chorus of the odious Famine Song, but rather the full, unexpurgated version.
The media have tried to make this an OF problem. Time for Celtic to come out fighting, avoid any OF nonsense and point the finger in the right(wing) direction. This is Rangers problem. Their establishment friends are desperately trying to make it our problem as well. Celtic cannot, must not let that happen.
The truth shall set you free CSC.
Se7en, no idea about that one.
Gordon, I hadn’t heard of that incident from Wednesday. Crazy.
Thanks also for another timely dip into your Celtic View pile.

paul67- ok! thanks for the reply. it was just that i was wondering about you not mentioning specifics as many times in interviews people only give context in their first answer leaving the rest of their answers open to interpretation or abuse (by editor like me!)
any news on lennon's attackers after the cctv?
Paul
Yes yes.
Great deduction. I could swear you in as a deputy!!!
The singing issue is one we cannot win. If it wasn't Merrypough Boy it would be the Holy Goalie or Let the People Sing or the Fields that would be getting used to bring us to the equation.
However as far as I can see everyone is missing a more serious issue from media to the Scottish Govt.
Lennon (Celtic) hospitalised.
Brown (CELTIC) assulted
Boruc (CELTIC) hounded.
McGeady(CELTIC) abused.
There is a pattern there, is there not?
What is it going to take for someone to admit "they" have a seriously bad attitude towards Celtic players and tackle a very real and more dangerous issue?
I realise there will be rangers fc players getting verbally abused on the streets from morons but thankfully they have not been physically assulted.
Study the competely contrasting attitudes towards Neil Lennon N. Ireland catholic CELTIC player and Kyle Lafferty N Ireland protestant rangers player from both sides of the "Old Firm" fan base and you get the whole issue in a nutshell.
Do we hate the ground young Kyle walks on just because he is a rangers/fan player born in N Ireland? No.
Now consider what Neil has had to put up with since the first day he wore the hoops.
Why anyone thinks a guy who was hibs manager for 5 minutes and that's it would make a great Celtic manager is baffling. When the time comes we need an experienced man in the job and hopefully a man with champions league experience.
No Mark McGee either.
SOAL.
therefore the brain surgery i guess.

celticfcnumerouno,
Your argument has no ears here my friend.
The footage on BBC clearly shoots it down.
The tune and the song from which it comes do not hold any substance from your perpective.
We were dragged into a debate that was self inflicted.
We made it easy for the Meedja to counter balance any misgivings we rightly had.
Until every Fan with Celtic FC at heart realise their responsibilties we will continually share the shame as them.
This makes it so easy for them.
There is no defence.

Is G Campbell really worth a mention on here?
We all know that his agenda is.
He would be first in line to throw a brick at Neil.
