What a howlingly awful day for a game of football!
Will Sheridan get a run out I wonder. If not I suppose it'll be Maloney and MacDonald up front.
This is a big one. We need to get back on track.
"Then I read that people are complaining about being charged £15 for getting their picture taken with the SPL trophy!!!
How dare we!
Can I ask the guys who are of the opinion that this is a 'complete rip off' or 'the club is fleecing the fans again' to think how much additional finance Manchester United gain from fans who I would imagine are in the hundreds, who turn up at Old Trafford on a daily getting the same photo with the EPL trophy?"
I don't give a flying Monkeys Knife and Fork about Manure. I care about the tic. To ask fans to pay £15 to get their pic taken with what is ultimately our fork and knife trophy is a rip off. We pay enough in season books and replica shirts and hot dogs and pies and cokes and scarves and hats and socks and huddle boxers and jackets and t-shirts and jackets and mugs(that is appropriate) and cups and pens and bags and rucksacks and half time draws and 3 new tops a year and books and DVD's and ...
Surely the fans can get a pic taken with our trophy for free. Especially the kids.
But as I said to Jinky, one mans rip off and all that.
How's it going. You playing in the water polo comp today?
Iv'e got my speed boat out and raring to sail up the Gallowgate for a beer in the drober before sailing on up to CP for the main festivities. Last time the weather was this bad the match was canned due to bits coming off the stadium roof leading to the awfull rearanged game agains Inverness CT. Hope it is not more of the same today.
I posted a reply to your last post yesterday around 18.40pm,I think you had problems regarding jeans and you never came back on the site, see you at the 5s?.

FARE Action Week reaches peak this weekend
Over the weekend the European Action Week of the Football against Racism in Europe (FARE) network will hit the highest point with a series of high-profile and grassroots events involving fan groups, players, clubs, NGOs and ethnic minority organisations.
The 9th edition of the FARE Action Week running from 16 to 28 October is engaging an unprecedented number of 40 European countries in the fight for a football world free of discrimination and exclusion.
Last night in the UEFA Cup Sampdoria joined FK Partizan in Belgrade in a remarkable symbolic action: On the pitch both teams dressed in FARE t-shirts and presented cards with the message “We don’t divide Black and White – We Unite.” This week the UEFA Champions League provided a massive public platform to spread the integrative message of the FARE Action Week. More than 570.000 people were directly touched by the message at the 16 stadiums.
FIFA World Cup Qualifiers marred by racism
A series of racist acts during at FIFA World Cup Qualifiers played last week demonstrate the need for continuous vigilance of all stakeholders of the game.
Kurt Wachter of the Austrian FARE-founding organisation FairPlay-vidc said:
“In fighting against racism in football we have come far, but there is no time for complacency. At the qualifier in Bratislava we have witnessed anti-Semitism and racism on the part of Polish fans, in Zagreb Croatian supporters chanted - once again - Nazi and anti-Serb slogans during the game against Andorra, and the match between Bulgaria versus Italy saw blatant fascism amongst both fan groups. To stand up against racism is still very much necessary.”
Scandinavian players show racism the red card
A highlight of the forthcoming weekend will be the strong involvement of the players and professional clubs all over Scandinavia. The Norwegian "Gi rasisme rødt kort" campaign coordinates anti-racist events in the Premier League, First Division and the Women's Premier League. Also a school contest has been launched at the start of the Action Week. In neighbouring Sweden the players union is also organizing a “Ge rasismen rött kort” campaign. Campaign flyers will be distributed to an estimated 135.000 spectators. At the team line-up a short DVD will be shown and players will hold up Red Cards. In Denmark the players union will stage an anti-racism event at Randers vs. Ålborg. Players will show the red card and an anti-racist penalty competition will take place during half-time. The previous weekend the Finnish Football Association and the national league (Veikkausliiga) were involved in the FARE Action Week.
New drive in Russia
In line with the emphasis of the FARE network to campaign in Eastern Europe for a football culture free of racism, anti-Semitism and discrimination, FARE has lent financial support to a growing number of initiatives and human rights NGOs in the former Soviet republics.
Maccabi Moscow, a Jewish community football club, is organizing two multi-ethnic football events in the framework of the FARE Action Week. In St. Petersburg an organization working mostly with homeless people called Put Domoi have hosted a "Football Against Racism" tournament for homeless and refugee teams at the Metrostoy stadium. In Georgia FARE supports a project of the NGO Bridge of Friendship "Kartlosi" which uses football as a means to involve both ethnic Georgians and Ossetians living in the zone of the very recent armed conflict in the border Thskhinvali region.
EURO 2008 host country fully behind the campaign
All clubs of the Austrian Bundesliga and the campaign FairPlay. Different Colours. One Game work together to convey a powerful message for diversity and against xenophobia. From the pitch three players of each team will make a personal statement against racism. The motto "I am against racism" will be present in the stadia on banners, on the vidiwalls, on the t-shirts of the escorting children and on the white & black cards shown by the players and referees.
English Premier League on board
In the English Premiership the games on Sunday 26 October between Chelsea vs Liverpool, Portsmouth vs Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur vs Bolton Wanderes and West Ham United vs Arsenal will all be dedicated to the celebration of diversity and the eradication of racial abuse.
FARE is confident that such high-profile action will successfully communicate the philosophy of the Action Week to the entire European football family, including countries and leagues where racist behaviour and harassment still pose serious problems for football and for society at large.

alright fellow bhoys It's that time again .
Anyone got a wee tip for the charity bet today .
weather has been wild here overnight any updates on the games going ahead today .
hail hail
Glasgow guys. Is there any danger of the game being called off?
Down here in sunny Greenock some of the roads are already near blocking off with flooding and there does nto look as though there is going to be any let up.
You've probably discussed this to death but I find the Nacho Novo for Scotland issue curious.
Curious because for rangers he gets a similar amount of time on the pitch as Boyd. Does he want to declare for Scotland so that he can instantly declare his retirement from international football due to never getting picked?
Would some kind soul, with more computer nous than i,please copy my post from the last thread, timed at 9.14 or so,and place it here,i think it is important folk get to see the show in question, thanks in anticipation.

For anyone who has not seen the documentary featured on Celtic underground,i recomend you do so,it is called,"the big clubs",i found it fascinating, don't know how i have managed to miss is all these years. If ever anyone doubted the almost unimaginable arrogance and bigotry of willie waddell, this will help to convince you,his is a special kind of hatred for anything catholic.
A clean version of the e-tims article which paul67 seems to find rude.
Quality stuff from one of the best celtic sites on the net.
Celtic v Hibs Preview, Celtic Park
Saturday, Oct 25th, 3pm Kick-Off.
Saturday sees the return of domestic duty following the midweek gubbing by European minnows Melchester Rovers and also sees the return of recently departed Celt, Deek ‘Salt’n’sauce I hate Gordon Strachan he’s a wee pooh yie ken’ Riordan.
Following a mauling by our great friends in the media (am I the only person who thought we looked reasonably comfortable up until MU’s offside goal followed by their other offside goal?) it’s the battle of a greens in a match that in recent years has been one of the more pleasing from an entertainment perspective for the weather-beaten brows of the home support at Celtic Park.
With the Hibs team buoyed by the news that manager Mixu Paatelainen has vowed not to devour a family sized vindaloo on the eve of the game ensuring a more harmonious journey on the team bus through to the home of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, God bless you Ma’m (doffs cap), there is no doubting that all eyes will be focused on Riordan as he makes his return to Paradise. It’s a given that Riordan will score for Hibs tomorrow, FFS Kenny Miller scored two and he’s pish, as these things tend to happen for players with a point to prove to ex-managers but what else is also quite probable is the sight of young Deek offering hee-haw in terms of workrate when Hibs are not in possession as we so often witnessed during his stint with the club. Aye there’s some magic in them boots but there’s also some lead as shown by his reluctance to chase after a ball more than three centimetres from his feet.
While young Del will be the focus for some, for yours truly and the majority of the crowd it will be about how our Bhoys perform following their midweek reverse. Recent seasons, not only in the SPL, has shown that clubs returning from Champions League duty across Europe tend to be at their most vulnerable and the team will really have to be on their game to consolidate their position at the top of the League, unless of course Hamilton gub the Huns in the lunchtime kick off. They couldny, could they? Naw, don’t be daft. Gawn young James!
With Crosas, JVoH and star man of the SPL season so far gorgeous George all injured, central striking options look at a premium maybe forcing the managers hand into a 4-3-3 formation that he’s already tried this season. His other decision surrounds whether he moves Mr Consistent Gary Caldwell (I’d have laughed out loud if someone told me I’d ever by typing that!) back to his preferred central defensive position probably in place of Glenn Loovens.
With weather conditions certain to be coming down and blowing a gale for a pleasant change from the recent 85 degree heat, it may limit what normally is a good game of football between two attacking teams who prefer to play the ball on the ground at every opportunity.
I’ll go for the Celts to edge it in a 2-1 victory with Deek to score for the Hibees and Skoosh to score the winner for the Celts.
anyone else brave enough to dip their toe in the murky waters of fixed odds forecasting need 3 more victims bhoys .
let's give the bookie a hammering .

Bet that hot roll van's doing a roaring trade on the Green today. No live updates from the 5s?
Not looking forward to venturing out in this one little bit.
I'm staying out the betting clique since I bust your coupon last time I tried, sorry! I do have Deek to score first and Celtic to win 2-1 on at the bookies though, but never generally put Celtic on a coupon.

If it was easy they would all be doing it ,go with the heart and dive right in .look at our CL away record and the bhoys still get on the plane .
Go on what's your pick today

Paul67 :- I know more than a few folk on here have commented on the recent "t-shirt" case, I also know that a few postings from the FF site have been pasted here, so I thought I'd paste a few comments from others sites, I've found the split for and against the action to be around 50/50 with those against it making the better points, some of them I've pasted below. Not all Rangers fans are rabid bigots.
Bit of a bizzare one really, lets face it we see a lot worse on T-Shirts every day. Yes the timing was a bit stupid, and he probably was trying to wind people up, but really...are we that petty?
Another sad indictment on life in Glasgow really
________________________________________
Sad day for freedom of speech. However the tims have brought this on themselves, complaining about everything. They can't blame this on anyone else.
_________________________________________
The guy could have no complaints if he was knocked on his arse for his own stupidity. I don't agree with convicting him for wearing the T-shirt however. "Offending" someone should never be a criminal offence.
Yes the phrase "dirty horrible huns" would offend me alot.
____________________________________________
He can wear whatever t-shirt he likes, couldn't care less tbh
___________________________________________
It's shocking that people can no longer express themselves. Furthermore, it's disgraceful that police time is taken up dealing with such trivial nonsense when they should be detecting/preventing real crimes and apprehending real criminals. Add to this the cost incurred to the taxpayer, and you have to ask is this really in the public's interest?
This country is a fvcking joke.
_____________________________________
I too feel I have to defend the tim on this one; his right to be a wee fud must be protected. When the authorities and government feel they are losing control of society, and when they can't find any other way to resolve an issue, one thing they always do is errode the people's rights, (in this case the man's right to express himself,) under the guise of "protecting" the public. I for one do not welcome the systematic destruction of my own rights to "protect" me from a crude attempt at a wind-up via some sh*t scrawled on the back of the idiot's t-shirt.
_________________________________________
PC gone mad i think. Although if i had've seen him walking by i wouldn't have been happy, but it's just a t-shirt ffs. Don't like the 'hun' word, but other than that i've got no problem with the tims giving us shiite over the game.
I actually give the wee timmy bassa some credit. Takes some baws to do that considering the events of Manchsester that were to follow
_____________________________________
The world has gone mad
____________________________________
The crime being committed here is......? hurting someone's feelings. Essentially, "offending" someone is just this. There is no physical or tangible damage committed. I'd look at that t-shirt and think "what a tw*t, then think no more of it, however, someone else would look at it and be so offended that they'd demand action taken. So, accepting this is the case, we are now at the juncture where we are going to have selective criminal acts, ie. it's a crime in one context, but not in another, after all, if there are no victims, there is no crime. This is unworkable, unjust and plain crazy. Rather than criminalise or criticise someone for expressing "offensive" opinions, we should be looking at addressing where these opinions come from in the first place, and why a person feels the way they do. Locking people up is a short-term, short-sighted response, and offers no solutions.
_________________________________________
That's more towards the right track for me than any 'offended' train of thought. Although he got done under some sectarian related law I think the bigger danger came from the potential to ignite a violent situation. Ideally, it shouldn't be an issue but n reality we're not so stupid that we don't understand the potential volatility of wearing the shirt in that situation. I think the police were right to remove him to prevent further trouble but don't see this conviction as anything other than a PR story for our legal system.

OK, the Setanta camera is wiggling about in the wind up at New Douglas Park, and you can hardly see the match already with all the rain on the camera. This is awful weather for football.
Broadfoot just took a throw-in and it blew back out of play again!
Guy wore a T-shirt with "dirty horrible huns" and "Zenit St Petersburg UEFA Cup Winners" on it the night of the UEFA Cup Final a couple of miles away from Ibrox. He was arrested and charged with religiously aggravated breach of the peace. No-one quite understands why.
Hmmm, watch gale-ick football as rubbish huns struggle against Hamilton Aces (American Voice over intro over here) or go out the back and get a sun tan (oops, obligatory but deffo penalty there for Boyd to slam home).
Still in the dark over the 'religious' aspect of this lads breach of the peace conviction.
Although, over a few drinks last night with some 'in the know' bluenose friends it did become apparent there has been a long running and sustained behind the scenes campaign to have the term hun reclassified as sectarian.
They hate the term as it so adequately describes their behaviour in Manchester this year and in the numerous other city's they've trashed over the last few decades.
Interesting little cameo..
As the huns launch into `Rule Britannia`,the camera focuses on the Lion Rampant and the Union Jack,as a means of demonstrating the strength of the wind.
Total coincidence.
In John Foxes Book of Martyrs (Protestant) the earliest person listed is Richard Hunne. He was found hanged in his cell in the Lollards Tower of St Pauls cathedral.
A coroner`s inquest found he had been murdered by the Bishop of London`s chancellor Dr Horsey.
Dr Horsey later acquitted on the written instructions of hHenry v11
macjay almost hitting the sack. Just spent the last four hours talking to my bro in Scotland. I was going to get up for the Hibs game but I haven't gone to bed yet and think I have had too many reds don't know if I can stay up until 3 am but what I was going to say was that I know what you are saying mate . It is very sad that most Scots would look to the Georgian era onwards to identfy themselves with rule Britania rather than our Celtic and Viking heritage . What about the previous two thousand years. Even worse I can't see a turning point in our history in the very near future. My own children in NZ will have an understanding of their Celtic Scottish Irish heritage. Best I can do. cmon the accies.
Just tuned in to the Hun (er I mean Orcs, honestly sheriff!)game can I borrow someones hanky to wipe the lens of the camera, man it looks awful up north, fair play to Paul67 and the bhoys playing footie today you'd need a wet suit.
Huns start second half with a rousing chorus of TFS.
Getting ready to leave for the game, might have to charter a boat to get there..its wild outside.
Lynott67
Simple decision for the linesman you would think. Ball crossed in player clearly offside . Goal ruled out. No chance. Headlines Boyd the Scottish hero .

My wife`s off to U.S. for a month, so I`ve had a few wee quiet ones myself.Flicking between Hamilton,Everton and Newcastle games.
My 15 y.o. is primed to waken me in a couple of hours.
Organisation,or maybe parental abuse.
Here`s tae us.
Talking of Vikings, was astonished to discover that Edinburgh is named after Odin, and so therefore is Dunedin.
To be fair to Booth(I don't know why I am bothering defending him) he did say twice that the Huns erm Orcs goal was offside which is two times more than he would say if the goal was scored against us.
Don't Satanta have windshield wipers for their cameras, their coverage is a joke.
Re-posting this cause it ended up last post on last thread and took too long to tyoe to allow instant old thread oblivion :0b.
Have to say I feel that the global portraying of our population as a bunch of raving bigots because of the reaction to McCarthy and McGeady is a gross generalisation. IMO there is too much of this self loathing posted here. Scotland has some real problems but they gave got a lot better and there is so much good about the place and its people. Sure there are, especially in west-central Scotland (Alba's 'northern Ireland light'zone)a number of the bigoted persuasion whose primary annoyance is indeed that it is Ireland that they have chosen to forsake us for.
However, I think that a great deal more, especially outside that part of our country, for whom the Ireland factor is not the issue but will still be prone to a feeling of huge disappointment, betrayal and a sense of gross ungratefulness which will in turn leads to booing, abuse, sometimes even taking cheap shots. A lot of people when annoyed will add a cheap shot extra in the abuse. If your target of annoyance is a red head or fat, he will be a ginger/fat b**tard' not just a 'b**tard'. People try to make it more personal when annoyed. When hurt yourself the more it hurts the person who caused your hurt the better in many eyes. Sure we do it ourselves, often using the name of a popular fruit as an add-on when a ref annoys us. I posted before that plastic Paddy will never be racism to me simply because it was widely used in Ireland years before I heard it in Scotland and it was likely invented in Ireland as a cheap shot at Irish wanabees. So, I just cant take seriously all the umbrage about it. I think its rather different from the menace of suggestions to get the boat home etc which to be fair I have also heard northern Irish catholics say about NI prods despite their familiss being there 3-400 years (both are nasty and often illogical - which half/quarter/eigth of me shall I send home????)
I am from the north-east. The people of that area are mainly oblivious to the orange-green divide (not a tradition there - almost no lodges north of Perth) but are a big source of Scotland fans. Talking to folk there I find they are very annoyed with the two players firstly simply because they are very good prospects, and its never happened before that a Scottish player of real quality has not stuck by our national team. There is a sense of disbelief: why is this happening now when this never happened before?
Its also generally felt that the players, their parents and most of their grandparents grew up here and most people feel they owe it to their country. The idea that one is ones granny and draws on a romantic attachment to a country you barely know other than holidays rather than the bread and butter reality of the ones that sustained your family for generations seems very very wrong to many including me. You cant eat dreams and flags.
I also think it has done a lot of damage to integration at a time when the national team was getting more and more popular with younger tims. I assume nobody sane really wants Scotland to have a pseudo-ethnic split along religious lines with locals supporting different national teams a la northern Ireland. Its also makes it harder to counter the old 'Catholics loyalty is really with Ireland' suspicion when they have done this.
The solution is simple - end the granny rule. Make the rule birth, long term residence or parentage. That would have avoided all of this in the first place. I personally don’t want players when neither they nor their parents were Scots and would be happy to lose all the granny rule ones we have had. Bloodline definitions of ethnicity is best left to the far right.
I hope you are right. That it is just a problem with the west of Scotland. That Scotland doesn't hide from or hate the Celtic/Irish connections from Fergus Mor , and well before with family connections over the water , right up until recent history.
Maybe your Grandfather didn't advise his daughter not to marry a SCottish Catholic because his parents were from Ireland. And he was a great man. My Mother didn't listen to this "common sense" and things changed for at least one family. If its not the same for the whole of SCotland then great but when you read the red tops The Herald , The Daily rangers , The Scotsman count the positve Celtic stories one year. You will still have fingers left.
Some one posted earlier this week about cancelling Setanta, I think I will do the same, shocking coverage todays game was like a home made movie down the public park, they offer to bring racism into my house on a weekly basis and you can watch games without having Setanta.
Ive got a family gathering tonight which includes a Hamilton Accies director and a hunic uncle, could be in interesting discussion or two.
Am I ok to sing 'go home ya huns' if they are ever invited back to Celtic Park for a Glasgow derby?
Will I be committing a religiously aggravated offence if I do and will I once again have to listen to the away fans sing to me 'The famines over, why don't you go home' without censure or punishment?
Go home ya orcs, go home ya orcs,
Go home ya orcs,
Go home!
Great the three fattis are all playing. Can't believe Strachan continues to pick Boruc, Macdonald and Hartley despite their lack of fitness. No discipline at all.
TFS being debated on Clyde, in fairness they are 100% condemining it.Also the treatement of the young hamilton player "a new low from Rangers supporters"...said by an ex Rangers player (NOT BFDJ)
Smelltheglove@ 2.17 :- I agree that the second goal was offside but could you tell me what was dodgy about the penalty, it was as clear a push as you could see in a game. I agree the third goal came from a defensive mistake but so do around half the goals (ballpark figure) in any game of football. It was a poor game but we got the points.
Houghton did it the right way. He kept asking Scotland to come for him until he was c. 22 or more. He even pleaded publicly in the papers. He played when Scotland had far better and wouldn’t have got a game. The way he did it meant that no one could or has to my knowledge criticised him and he certainly has my respect for it. Not sure what Coyne did but bottom line again was he wouldn’t have got a game and so fans were not annoyed with him for playing for Ireland. Same I am sure for Owen Coyle.
This demonstrates one: Scotland fans are primarily pragmatic football people who simply want the best of our own to give first refusal and expect them to maintain that position until they are past 21, not 16.
Ed
We beat ourselves up over tricky 2-1 wins like last week against Inverness. I feel Rangers' fans don't worry when this happens. All they care about is the result even if the performance is poor. Is this fair comment?
Was astounded of forehead to read that it can cost £15 to havre a photograph with the SPL trophy. Think this is taking our commercial drive a little too far. Possibly even illegal.
When any county wins The Sam Maguire -(All Ireland)- the trophy is taken on tour over the next six months. It is taken to GAA Clubs, Primary and Secondary Schools, hospitals, the elderly in their actual homes etc. It is the actual players who take it. Everyone from great great grannies, people who were unable to travel to the final, the sick in hospitals, school children have the opportunity to speak with the players and to have their photograps taken. Hundreds and hundreds of babies from a few days old are pictured in the actual trophy. I even have a photpgraph of myself holding the trophy along with the Armagh full forward line from 2002.
C'mon Celtic. This practice has nothing redeeming about it. It is embarassing.
Petethebeat :- I wouldn't say we don't care about the performance, some comments since Mr Smith reterned have shown that. However I dont think we self flaggelate over narrow wins the way Celtic fans can do. Taking todays game as an example, it was poor conditions, wet and windy with not much chance of decent football. If you take full points from a game like that then I think you have to be happy about it. It doesn't mean you don't recognise flaws in the game but that sometimes you have to accept the fact your team wont always play good football but at times will play a pragmatic style to take the points.
Came after a good spell of possession at the back. The ball was finally played forward to Skippy who flicked it on to Sheridan. Sheridan beat his man for pace sidestepped the keeper and slid the ball in from 12 yds out, wide on left. Very nice finish
Don't understand your question. These 3 guys are so out of condition they should be nowhere near the 1st eleven from a discipline point of view.As a result of their lack of conditioning. We are 3.5 months into the season are they all have beer bellies.Do you think you would see that at Arsenal? NO
Goal from nothing. The hibs player picked the ball up wide right, cut inside and drove the ball goalwards. Took a deflection of Nish and ended up in the back of the net
I hope to God that Strachan hasn't dropped McGeady and favoured Nakamura, he seems to be leaving him out after European games a lot these days.
I can only hope he's resting him and not attempting to put the blame of McGeady's shoulders, especially considering Nakamura has been so ineffective in Europe and for large parts in the SPL.
Missed the first 15mins. Wet conditions making football difficult. Celtic took a long time to put anything together but after we scored we settled down and started to play some good stuff. Their goal was totally unexpected and knocked us off our stride. Prior to that, Artur made a world class save from Riordan to keep the score at 0-0. Apart from our two goals, we have not forced their keeper to make a save.
Hibs working really hard and will likely tire towards the end of the game. Sheridan took his goal really well but has been guilty of losing possesion when the ball is played up to him. Skippy has been unproductive. The midfield came into the game towards the end of the half. Maloney needs to up his game though - he is not doing enough to warrant a starting place. Naka showed in glimpses but seems to be strugling without JVOH or Sammy up front.
All in all, this game is far from over. I think we will need to score again to secure the points.
Aiden was very poor against Man U as was Naka. Don't think there's any conspiracy. I would guess Aiden will come on during 2nd half if there's a need. For me its a product of the squad Gordon now has that where he can he's selectively resting players.
On a terrible day like today I will be happy with a 2-1 win but I think there is a few more goals to come, thought Hibs had a few chances in the first.
Good to see Sheridan get on the scoresheet it'll do his confidence a world of good.
I grew up in the NE of Scotland and didn’t get into football until fairly late in my childhood. Until then I hadn’t even heard of the concept of sectarianism despite a part (distant) Irish background. Its a completely different country away from west-central Scotland. The culture of the latter is just looked at in disbelief from further north. There is a big difference between areas that are full of old fashioned protestants like the highlands and the political/ethnic type Ulster-like Orange/loyalist/anti-Irish fair in west-central Scotland which clearly owes a lot to past Ulster immigrants to Scotland.
It hard to generalise but opinion on Irish issues means nothing to most in the north and there is a stronger Scottish nationalist vibe (and vote) in the north and north-east. The people simply don’t really want to hear either loyalist or republican takes on the Irish question in football grounds. That’s seen as an unwelcome intrusion of someone else’s argument when we have issues of our own (like Scotland's position in the UK)that are much more relevant. Probably a vaguely Highland type identity prevails in the north of Scotland with separatist tendencies (although not of a radical type) but socially conservative. Outsiders and even fairly immobile insiders who dont travel around Scotland except at football games don’t realise that the character of the people is radically different as you move throughout Scotland with big east-west and north-south divides.
I think we need to tap into the ancient common Gaelic roots of the two countries: the language, music, history, legends, literature etc and move away from the religious and political stuff that later divided us. The connection has to be between all the Irish and all the Scots, not just those of Irish decent wanting a republican knees up with Irish Catholics or orange types crossing to and fro between Glasgow and Belfast. The latter is focussing on the dividing factors, preaching to the converted and simply choosing to mix with people who reinforce your existing views.

Why is Hibs v Celts not available on the web. Radio reception on BBC Scotland very weak in Dublin. Great to see Sheridan on scoresheet, and getting goals without the big two up front. Watched Glasgow and Leinster in Magners League rugby last night on Setanta and as always a nice friendly atmosphere.
Nice move down the right. Maloney and Skippy combined to make space for Brown who smacked a left foot shot low into bottom corner from the edge of the box. Excellent finish.
Wouldn't quite call it a 'rampant' performance but it was a very entertaining game second half. Credit to Hibs for coming back into the game and also to the Bhoys for havng the charcter to keep the heads up and get the game back under control. Brown had an excellent second half capped by a great goal.
Maybe as MCelt predicted at half time, Hibs tired a bit. That is the benefit of having a squad, football is now a game of 14 players. Sounds like a strong finish from the Celts. Good to hear about us getting some goals , even without JVOH or Sami. We haven´t bagged one yet in our CL group.
Congratulations Cillian Sheridan and I´m in love with Loovens!!
Courageous performance against a capable Hibs team.
Nobody really stood out for us, but they had to dig deep after Hibs equalised.
I think the ace in the pack was Aiden when he came on against a tiring team. His direct running through the middle unnerved them and gave us the forward momentum that had been missing early in the second half.
How did McCourt play in his 3 mins or so?
BTW was able to post twice during the game. Thought it was my Internet connection that was the problem. Good - don't have to do all that spyware stuff.
Loovens like his Dutch pal big Jan is a powerful header of the ball in the danger zone and this result with goals aplenty is just what we all needed after wednesday nights downer.
Thought MacDonald played well (0.5MoM) ... creating space in tight situations to release shots, laying off for teammates etc.
Perhaps the other half MoM to Scott Brown.
Thoroughly enjoyed today's game, great entertainoment from both teams intent on attacking football. Hinkel & McDonald gave their best performances of the season, Brown & Hartley were great in the midfield and Loovens won everything when he came on. Sheridan is still raw but seems to have what it takes to be a success, fast, strong, a decent 1st touch (most of the time) and got his goal. He'll need time though.
Left back still a major concern, a decent left back would have prevented both goals lost, Robson tried and was good going forward but never a defender (better than Naylor though)
Summer football anyone?
I cannot understand why we play in weather like today, the players deserve credit for their performance (both teams). How can players develop their skills in a howling gale and pouring rain?
Good game today, at 3-2 I was on a wee fortune as I backed the bhoys to win 3-2 at a whopping 28/1, trust Skoosh to spoil me day!
Having said that, it was a cracking goal and Sheridan's was too.
Loovens - not sure about his defensive capabilities but is that not 3 goals already?
Benjybhoy and Missus Benjybhoy are still trying to thaw out, roll on springtime and 4IAR.
I enjoyed that game almost as much as the CQN 5's this morning. Well done to all the bhoys who played and, especially, to the 2 finalist teams. Very generous sponsorship from Trophy World Direct and great support from Kenny Clark (yes, that Kenny Clark) and Daniel Fergus himself. I got to ref one match before being subbed by KC (Oh the shame!) and saw Brattback Mountain record a win thanks to a very retro performance from their goalkeeper whose outfit resembled those worn by the onion bag custodians of yester year. Said goalie looked to me as though he may well have been a lead singer in a popular Scottish beat combo of the recent past.
The biggest mention must go to the bhoys who did most of the organising and who brought their families in to help out. Well done Blantyre Kev, Monteblanco and all the others.
As for the Hibs game, it was good to see the much maligned Skippy play a leading role in helping young Cillian through that match. Two much maligned Centre backs contributed goals and Artur had a world class save in the first half.
I can assure Disco Stu that Artur, Skippy and Paul Hartley weighed in heavily toward our victory and, looking beyond the first impression of their shape (hoops are very just so unflattering, darling!), they showed great aerobic fitness and flexibility in their play.
And as I predicted, Fletcher, not Riordan, was the danger from Hibs.
What's the news, what's the news oh my bold Celts FC
With your long legged colts from the reserves
Say what coach from the youths brings this messenger here
With the hint of a goal, two or three
Goodly news, goodly news do I bring CQN
Goodly news shall you hear Angry man
For the bhoys won a match from the men of the Forth
Led by Cillian the bhoy from Cavan
CQN Fives this morning was another well organised and well attended event. Some decent football on show and I don't think Kenny Clark made a single mistake.
Good to meet Jinkysboy and Celtic Bob among others, and it was fun to spend time with CQners as always.
Had a chat with Hoops legend Daniel Fergus at the end. Good of him to give up his time for us. I asked him about George Connelly, as raised earlier on the blog. The memories brought a smile to Danny's face and he talked at length. He reckoned that George wasn't quite the talent of Kenny D, but not a lot in it.
Danny said that George had a great ability to make space and time for himself which is why he looked so classy. Even taught Danny a thing or two, or so he modestly claimed. He also said that George hated training and just wanted to play every day. Finally, he thought that had George's head been in the right place he would have been a top international player.
Always interesting to get the thoughts of a Celtic great.
I also enjoyed the game today, especially given the conditions.
We played some good stuff and were really better than the score suggests. Scott Brown was excellent today and good to see him on the score sheet again. Big Glen also scored another good goal - centre forward anyone?
Skippy worked harder than he has in recent games and deserved a goal. Cillian Sheridan worked really hard and took his goal like a veteran. He also made a lot of very good runs but wasn't found early often enough.
It was also great to see Paddy McCourt get on the pitch, although he didn't really have time to show too much.
A good three points and that's what counts.
Anyone know what the story is with Mick going off at half time?
I not a fan of Lee Naylor but after today and your'e dead right about Robson he doesn't have the pace to play left back, and is very much a stand in. I think we'll see LN back in for Wednesday,
don't know if he is injured.
Hinkel had a fine game today and would be my choice everytime over Wilson when fit. Conroy although a winger originally is featuring more for the reserves at left back and can't be far from getting a game.
A full back.. especially, an attacking full back..needs to have Speed to Spare..in order to get back in position, plus he must be able to excel in a Run Down with the opposition winger.
Darren is a good Player, but he does not fill the Bill.
Same with Hinkel... a good player, but...
Again... Canny Motor.
Hinkel is not the answer for the Right Back berth,either..
Caddis.. Caddis.. he has it all..
He can Motor, he can Tackle, he can DRIBBLE... he can Cross the ball,
You are right about Caddid, but today for a long time i thought Hinkel was steady and good. Hopefully not a one off. Covered Caldwell who probably had a bad game in a long long time today. Hinkel was solid today. Tackled, jumped, almost scored as well. Looked fit!!
themanfromghordknowswhere good reply. I fell asleep on the couch waiting for the 3 am start and woke up cold and tired at 5:15 am just after the game finished. So two weekends in a row I have wasted my sleep and missed the game . Ah well there is always next week. Yes we do both come from different Worlds in the same Country. I happen to like your vision a lot more than you might think. I think that the Irish people are quite capable of getting independence back on there own and don't need my help to do it. I was very proud when Dewar led us into devolution and that platform may or may not be used to give us back the independence we had until the Act of Union. I too would very much like to see all Scottish and Irish people recognise the things that we have in common like History , Music and Literature and celebrate the differences rather than the predujice and sectarianism that goes on every day. I am organising a Gaelic Festive of Music and Dance in our City next January. This is our third year and it is a great success. We have Scottish and Irish musicians and dancers. My own girls do both and enjoy all Celtic dancing and music. More of that in Glasgow or Edinburgh might go some way to stopping the anti Irish ( and implicit anti Catholic ) chanting from almost every football ground in Scotland North , East , South and West. Thanks for posting back. Sorry I couldn't stay awake to give you a reply to a well written post. Like I said I hope that you are right .

Just in case Gaudd on E-tims only reads the podium stuff, I'll repeat the GIRUY message, from the last thread, here.
As for Hibs this afternoon, we should worry more about Fletcher than Deeks. Thakfully, they have to worry about whatever 11 to 14 players we put out.
I'm off now.

What a howlingly awful day for a game of football!
Will Sheridan get a run out I wonder. If not I suppose it'll be Maloney and MacDonald up front.
This is a big one. We need to get back on track.

I agreee that a high proportion of the E-tims stuff is good. I have no desire to trash any Celtic site at all.
My message was to an individual on the E-tims site, the one that practices the independent thinking of which we are incapable.
DundeePerth @11:44PM on last article

You've probably discussed this to death but I find the Nacho Novo for Scotland issue curious.
Curious because for rangers he gets a similar amount of time on the pitch as Boyd. Does he want to declare for Scotland so that he can instantly declare his retirement from international football due to never getting picked?

Possible Celtic Team: Boruc, Wilson, Robson, Caldwell, McManus, Hartley, Robson, Nakamura, McGeady, Maloney & McDonald.
ETims Prediction: Celtic 2 Hibs 1
My second point is we cannot play all the dwarves today this will be a battle we must win.
finally hope the huns get beat and soaked
just champion
loud and proud

Right im away to get on the flippers and snorkel(my usual Saturday night gear out in Greenock) and head to the game. See you there.

Bet that hot roll van's doing a roaring trade on the Green today. No live updates from the 5s?
Not looking forward to venturing out in this one little bit.
I'm staying out the betting clique since I bust your coupon last time I tried, sorry! I do have Deek to score first and Celtic to win 2-1 on at the bookies though, but never generally put Celtic on a coupon.
oneantonrogan
If it was easy they would all be doing it ,go with the heart and dive right in .look at our CL away record and the bhoys still get on the plane .
Go on what's your pick today
hail hail .
was meant to be going to 5's then bb's before the game. staying home, going to lounge today, so being a bit of a snob.

OK, I'll take Leeds at home to Walsall. That's on my own coupon, so we can both go bust together. Or win, I suppose

Hamilton v rangers....20 seconds on the clock, TFS loud and clear.
OK, the Setanta camera is wiggling about in the wind up at New Douglas Park, and you can hardly see the match already with all the rain on the camera. This is awful weather for football.
Broadfoot just took a throw-in and it blew back out of play again!
Ah, I see what they did there "James McCarthy, why don't you go home" - no mention of famine, can't get their knuckles rapped.
And so it begins...."Why don't you go home....James McCarthy...why don't you go home"
excuse my ignorance but what's the story with the dirty horrible Huns t shirt?
why boo james mccarthy and not chris bhoyd, do theese peeeeeple not understand the stupidity of that?
naw they don't because they are rearangers.....

Usual identity crisis from TFOD;
Booing and singing of TFS to James McCarthy - presumably because they're not racist but because he chose not to play for Scotland.
Hamilton fans repsond with 'One George Burley' aimed at Kris Boyd - again presumably because they're not racist but he chose not to play for Scotland.
Cue Rangers fans signing 'Rule Britannia' - not exactly a favourite dirge of the Tartan Army.
They're about as consistent as Kenny Miller

miller dive penalty
looked a stonewaller to me
Hmmm, watch gale-ick football as rubbish huns struggle against Hamilton Aces (American Voice over intro over here) or go out the back and get a sun tan (oops, obligatory but deffo penalty there for Boyd to slam home).
Huns would never score from open play ...
Hamilton were doing pretty well until that clown decides to push miller, that as now given the huns a lift before HT

who defined "hun" as a religiously motivated insult? what total nonsense
It is not and never has been a religious term.

Look forward to some garryowens from Accies in the second half, unless of course with th ehuns usual jam the wind does a 180.

Interesting little cameo..
As the huns launch into `Rule Britannia`,the camera focuses on the Lion Rampant and the Union Jack,as a means of demonstrating the strength of the wind.
Total coincidence.
hamilton played really well and are unlucky to be level, after scoring from open play.
the huns will probably grind it out with another penalty or something, the weather
really is a leveller and it worries me for our game as its not letting up any,

In John Foxes Book of Martyrs (Protestant) the earliest person listed is Richard Hunne. He was found hanged in his cell in the Lollards Tower of St Pauls cathedral.

A mile offside
2-1 HUNS... BOYD OFFSIDE
a foul and offside for the same goal?
Boyd A mile offside.
Booth and the Setanta pundits all doing their level best to ignore TFS.
Simple decision for the linesman you would think. Ball crossed in player clearly offside . Goal ruled out. No chance. Headlines Boyd the Scottish hero .
Boyd off side and pulled the defender away. Booth 'Great goal'
'James McCarthy the famines over way dont you got home'
Loud and clear, specific racism directed towards an individual, a 17 year old at that.
Rangers are very poor.
It looked as much a foul by Boyd as it was offside.
Would also like to see the foul in the run up to the goal that McCarthy didn't get in front of TFOD

The Narrowbhoat Tim
I did hear him say that after I posted.
Sunderland game looks decent.
Some one posted earlier this week about cancelling Setanta, I think I will do the same, shocking coverage todays game was like a home made movie down the public park, they offer to bring racism into my house on a weekly basis and you can watch games without having Setanta.
Ive got a family gathering tonight which includes a Hamilton Accies director and a hunic uncle, could be in interesting discussion or two.

there are two surprises for me today, Hinkel at right back and Nakamura starting, midfield looks a bit weak.
Great the three fattis are all playing. Can't believe Strachan continues to pick Boruc, Macdonald and Hartley despite their lack of fitness. No discipline at all.

Are u at the wind up?
Anybody know anything?
Pete,
The game is pretty even so far, a bit slow but getting better.
No real chances, although I missed the first 5-10 mins.
Lubo.
Chance there for Hibs, but Boruc gathered.. Phew!
Probably shouldn't be asking this, but does anyone know of any sites showing the game?
Brown tries a cheeky wee lob over the keeper.. just a foot over..

Excellent save by Artur from Riordan. Celtic showing very little so far

I think we could learn from
Many thanks.

I think it is true but we are not content to win, we want to win with panache.
They just want to win beacuse its so long since they have won anything important and will take anything.
I thought the response to the ICT result though was quite balanced and I'll take any win today in the conditions.
Personally I would deem a game unplayable if the wind exeeds a certain limit.

Hail Hail
2-0 sheriden
Petethebeat :- I wouldn't say we don't care about the performance, some comments since Mr Smith reterned have shown that. However I dont think we self flaggelate over narrow wins the way Celtic fans can do. Taking todays game as an example, it was poor conditions, wet and windy with not much chance of decent football. If you take full points from a game like that then I think you have to be happy about it. It doesn't mean you don't recognise flaws in the game but that sometimes you have to accept the fact your team wont always play good football but at times will play a pragmatic style to take the points.
Good for the new boy and good for WGS giving him a chance.
Cillian is one of my best bhoys.
I have of course predicted a great future for him.
Smug or what??
Came after a good spell of possession at the back. The ball was finally played forward to Skippy who flicked it on to Sheridan. Sheridan beat his man for pace sidestepped the keeper and slid the ball in from 12 yds out, wide on left. Very nice finish
Kittochbhoy @3.04
Don't understand your question. These 3 guys are so out of condition they should be nowhere near the 1st eleven from a discipline point of view.As a result of their lack of conditioning. We are 3.5 months into the season are they all have beer bellies.Do you think you would see that at Arsenal? NO

I think GS just rates Maloney and Naka in front of Aiden. He's the manager!
HT Celtic 2-1 Hibs
Maloney19
I think McGeady needs to get a run, get back into his stride Im not keen on Maloney at left wing.
McGeady on the bench
Subs: Mark Brown, McGeady, Loovens, Donati, McCourt, O'Dea, McGowan.
Hope to see McGeady and McCourt on at some point in the second half.
Malone 19
Aiden was very poor against Man U as was Naka. Don't think there's any conspiracy. I would guess Aiden will come on during 2nd half if there's a need. For me its a product of the squad Gordon now has that where he can he's selectively resting players.
Sounds like we will need at least one more goal to kill this game off.
On a terrible day like today I will be happy with a 2-1 win but I think there is a few more goals to come, thought Hibs had a few chances in the first.
Good to see Sheridan get on the scoresheet it'll do his confidence a world of good.
Discostu
You suggesting Brown should play in front of Boruc?
Loovens strip to come on don't know for who yet
McManus injured?
Loovens on for McManus who has a suspected injury.
Mick off for Loovens at HT
Sounds like the Bhoys have started with a bit of tempo in the second half
Naka played in well by Skippy but a poor cross
Half chance for Skippy - just wide

2-2 Break down the right. Hinkel skinned for pace pulled across the box and an easy finish for Fletcher
This game could end up 4-4 the way thigs look right now
mncelt, was it not robson skint for pace?
It was Robson
Yes - Sorry. Robson
Like the idea of Robson at LB, but he really is lacking pace, for SPL or otherwise. Caldwell, should have cut off the cross ... basic.
Maybe the captains armband slowed him down
Left Back issue still causing problems then?
Understatement Yes!
Understanding No!
Good move. Shot from Skippy well saved - corner
Aiden coming on for Naka - thought Naka was starting to get into the game
Shot from Skippy - saved. He is due a goal this half for his efforts

Yeah the blog was fairly bad for most of the second half. Probably just as well, because its not a nice place to be when things arent going our way.
Some great football in the last 15 mins, especially from Scott Brown
Wouldn't quite call it a 'rampant' performance but it was a very entertaining game second half. Credit to Hibs for coming back into the game and also to the Bhoys for havng the charcter to keep the heads up and get the game back under control. Brown had an excellent second half capped by a great goal.
Great 3 points. Onwards and upwards.
Thanks for the information live from CQNvision.

Guid, kiddo... I think ye wull dae!
Big Mick..?
Lovely opportunistic goal..
But, Young Brown, capped a fine display .. with a true Rasper..
I luv Raspers!

who is happy as a pig in the proverbial!
Good result in difficult conditions today. Four goals in the plus column and another three points added to the four in a row campaign.
A bit gutted I missed this one.
I have seen some cracking games against Hibs over the last few years and it sounds like this one didn't disappoint.
Celt33
mncelt.. i should have wrote!
McCourt played great ... not a 'real' test though, but showed skill and was composed.

Does any of your compadres in Vegas have any tips on the Breeders Cup, I promise not to mention it to anyone
Loovens like his Dutch pal big Jan is a powerful header of the ball in the danger zone and this result with goals aplenty is just what we all needed after wednesday nights downer.
Loovens does look like a football player, he just doesnt look like a centre back.
Incidentally i think the same of Hinkel
Thought MacDonald played well (0.5MoM) ... creating space in tight situations to release shots, laying off for teammates etc.
Perhaps the other half MoM to Scott Brown.
The Narrow Bhoat Tim.
Nutsy says.. Curlin, for the Classic.
Probably a hot fav....
I have not backed anything, today...
I nevah can pick a horse in the Breeders Cup..
Too many Great Horses..
Today, I would take a shot on Casino Drive... just for fun.
But, like Ah said...
I very seldom, if ever play the Breeders Cup..
My specialty, is Selling Platers.
Kojo.
Thanks Kojo I won't mention Nutsy tip of Curlin to a soul.
just in from the game - good result

Bravo!
Encore?
I hope you've all flung your beavers aloft and given three ringing cheers for young Cillian.
hartley on a special diet to muscle his way back into the first team

Your observations, regarding the aggravatingly and annoyingly and seemingly insoluble left back berth, replicate my own thoughts.
Glaring lack of speed, and lack of tackling nous, in the case of Mr.Robson.. says it all..
He is not the answer..
Why not gie young Conroy anither shot...?
He can run quite well.. and he is a fine crosser of a ball..and he kin tackle..
It is a Mystery why Mr. Strachan does not gie this young man anither chance.
Kojo
My thanks to kojo for plagirising the name
Napper for Glen loovens
great knickname
Napperloovens csc
Kojo.
I have watched young Conroy a couple of times in the U21's. He's not ready at this time. Caddis,on the other hand, can start any time.
kojo
I not a fan of Lee Naylor but after today and your'e dead right about Robson he doesn't have the pace to play left back, and is very much a stand in. I think we'll see LN back in for Wednesday,
don't know if he is injured.
Hinkel had a fine game today and would be my choice everytime over Wilson when fit. Conroy although a winger originally is featuring more for the reserves at left back and can't be far from getting a game.
JistLou
Na.. no sweat.. the nickname will stick... because it is so appropriate.
I tellya.. young Loovens, is the most deadly Heiderer, of a Ba'....Since.. dare Ah say It?
Sure, Ah'll say it...
Mr. Larsson, of the Golden Boot!
Kojo.

Is Carlo Monti ready to play LB for the seniors?
Darren O'Dea for left back till the January window, at least he can defend. Play him (or Conroy) there on Wednesday
Bournesouprecipe
Conroy, should be given a shot.. ready or not.
That is what a reserve team is for...
Readying players for the big time.. but, in order for the procedure to function,properly...
The Youngster, must be given a shot..
It he is really, really, not ready, then give us a chance to find out.. otherwise, we are spinning our wheels..
Young Cillian..did as well..or not bettah .. than Jvoh or even Georgie Bhoy would have done with his ONE opportunity..
s'atright?
Mr. Strachan.. Give the youngster a shot.
Kojo.

cis cup perfect for fringe players
mccourt didn't look out of place today either
i'd play him on wednesday as well, others can rest up
for swinecastle

Same problem... and believe me...
It is a Problem.
Master O'Dea.. canny Motor,eether!
He can Motor, he can Tackle, he can DRIBBLE... he can Cross the ball,
Kojo.
Kojo,
You are right about Caddid, but today for a long time i thought Hinkel was steady and good. Hopefully not a one off. Covered Caldwell who probably had a bad game in a long long time today. Hinkel was solid today. Tackled, jumped, almost scored as well. Looked fit!!
I cannot understand why Caddis is not given a run. Surely in the CIS cup, (is it stillthe CIS cup, well the league cup.
I thought Hinkel looked good today. Got up and down the right well and supported the attack. I think we have yet to see the best of our right back.
new article posted.
Great result the day, the team worked hard especially in the second half. Congrats to the youngster Cillian well done!
Skoosh and Loovens terrific goals!
A question for Kojo, are you in Vegas? If so I'll be there Nov13-17, if you care to meet for a pint.

Boro go one up on Ince's Blackburn.
Men v boys then?
Hope you get relegated Ince.
themanfromghordknowswhere good reply.
