Celtic 1-0 Inverness Caledonian Thistle, SPL, 29 November 2008

| | Comments (643)
The champions extended their lead at the top of the table with a dogged win over an Inverness Caledonian Thistle team who refused to accept defeat until the final whistle sounded well into the 50th minute of the second half.

The game itself will be memorable for little more than a tired looking Celtic clearing their lines for the last 30 minutes as Inverness made the most of a series of free kicks which allowed them to launch attacks.

Shaun Maloney scored the only goal of the game after 28 minutes despite not making a clean connection with his shot from outside the box.  Maloney spend most of the afternoon away from his more effective central midfield role, so found little opportunity to display his creative talents.

Scott Brown and Paul Hartley never quite got to grips with the Inverness central midfield but both defended resolutely 30 yards from their own goal to deny the Highlanders space in dangerous areas.

The champions have now recorded 12 league wins in succession, turning a three point deficit into a seven point advantage.  They took one on the chin on Tuesday night but today demonstrated the character that made them champions in the first place.

podium?

Bhoys and ghirls of CQN

today was a fulfilling day

My big pal Celtic Bob came around and we picked up Vinny at the club and straight to BBs

There we met Oldtim, GordonJ, WDH, Jamie, BT and junior, Paul67 and kevin, Martin42, SFTB, Dick Byrne, Eventheolivesarebleeding, Inkybhoy and others that I dint catch their names, All signed Kanos shirt and it felt good to see you all together in Celtic

Then we fired down to CP and met up with Kingho and Kanos dad Matt and I was touched by his pain and humbled when he thanked us for all we were doing for his family. We also met up with EdB and Lurgan52 before heading into the game (just as the news came about the 2-1 against the rankers)

We then saw the tribute and a 1-0 win that takes us 7 points clear then froze almost before getting home to Mrs jinks and plate of hot soup.

Thank God for days like this , thank God for all things Celtic and God bless Kano and his family tonight.

and again?

Surely not?

PF ayr,

My own seat is in 143 but for reasons too boring to explain I was in 102 today & heard some applause & cheers for kano too. Well done jinksyboy - it was good to finally meet you today.

Blast you TDF!

Dick Byrne - I'm also in 143. Although I was laid low by the drink today and couldn't make it. Not for the first time am I never drinking again.

Dick Byrne

Likewise my friend - good to meet you. Your an inspiration

I too stood and took photos whiile chanting "Kano Kano" and got some strange looks from around me.

Natknow,

Thanks for getting back to me...

I hope it is true, because Watty has a hex over WGS and I want him gone. No matter how the huns are playing just now i believe him to be a very good man, team manager and motivator.... he started the Scotland turn aroundm McPeish ran with it and so far Burley doesnae have it....

What would be well cool about it would where do they go after Mcmoist?

If anyone want to see some pics from today with kanos dad and the CQNers go onto my bebo page - berniek31

I sit in 102 also PF Ayr, and was talking to a couple of guys around me about Kano, just about everyone was switched on to CQN and Kano's situation. Try as it might the cold could not infiltrate the warmth of the sentiment towards a fellow CQNers situation.

Long may it continue

GAWF

weeminger

Was that an echo there

I love Celtic. That is all.

Jinkynewton -

I'm not entirely convinced that McCoist will be even selected as permie manager after Smith goes. Maybe as a temp/stop-gap They will have written this season off by then and need to plan for next year with a new brush to sweep clean. But then your point is valid ....

Who would they get?

They made their big mistake when they let PLG go and caved in to "player power" in the dressing room.

Weeminger

The opportunity presented itself, i had to go all guns blazing, apologies for 'mowing your lawn'..Without fear or Favour:)

Cold in Glasgow tonight...apparently it's minus 7 over in Govan :)...sorry..i'll get my coat!

jinkysbhoy,
said a wee prayer for kano and his loved ones.
kano keep fighting and see four in a row.
hial hail

When a team plays so bad,the Programme announcer should at the end of the game state that the is no MOTM award this week,That
team was as bad as I've seen this season.

Although he only appeared for a couple of minutes,Koki Mizuno was by far the best player on the park today.

natknow and jinkynewton

I think Sally was promised the job if he came as assistant to the cardigan. I hope they live up to that promise sooner than later

Not sure if you know but some of the bhoys asked the bookies this month for odds on 10 in a row and the best quoted was 33-1 with as little as 20-1.

Now that tells a story

inky

Were you on the 16 bus after the game?

had a look at your pics on bebo jinkysboy and well done to all for what looked like a wonderful tribute.

Hail Hail

Good and duly brief summary Paul,

Enough said about this weeks "turmoil" at Celtic for our players to stretch our lead to 7 (what a magical number) in the SPL.

The bhoys did what was required. Our old foes failed as miserably as is expected these past few years.

This was just what the doctor ordered for WGS and his squad.

We have a hard December ahead and I believe we will drop the odd point but I also believe we will gain further daylight before the rangers game.

I just hope our support can handle the odd defeat or draw here and there.

Minty's 11 will drop more points than us.

WE need to hold our nerve when we do.

I doubt they will.

Ironbhoy.

Champions. Not coming down Hun street anytime now.

PF Ayr

i'm in 102 but wasnt there today, so it wasnt me :)

i cant agree that we're the best of a bad bunch - we win while playing well and we win ugly but we win, thats not a bad team. a bad team wouldnt have won today after coming back from denmark with that horrible defeat in their heads and their legs.

the huns today looked like they were in trouble after 15 minutes, they looked like they would struggle to get something from the game and so it proved, we've looked like that many times and always seem to win. that seems to be what sets us apart from them, and i thought he cliche said that a good team wins when they play poorly.

when you compare our recent record against them, and the way they've rolled us over by wanting it more on a couple of occasions, its a strange thing to say, but it looks like we've got a lot more mental strength than them throughout the team.

a good team is about more than winning beautifully every week.

My seat is in 444 and a good few cheers when Kano came up on the screen. Hopefully things will get better soon.
Well done to the guys who put in the effort

Bloke

If the guy you saw was chatting up an old woman then it was probably the Inkster !!!!!!!!!!

16 bus - 1 and 6 = 7. Is that a lucky 7 then........

tomdickfoolery,
Haha...top class

To all reading press , I hope you lot are forming an orderly queue to get the shots in at rangers , dropping back by 7 points?

No midweek games? Nothing cup wise recently?

Whats gone wrong , Walter up to the task?

So will we await the backlash tomorrow and the rest of the week?

rangers in crisis? Cracked crests? Biscuit Tin Murray?

No?

No .........

Silence ............

................ ( Echo )

GIRFUY HA HA

Jinkysboy, well said.

Ironbhoy, aye, a big December, but all we can do is continue to win the next game.

Not a great peformance from Celtic today but a wins a win and what about the huns . Dear oh dear.

They seem to be determined to self destruct almost on an annual basis.

League may be over by the time the Sydney Harbour fireworks go off.

Kyle Lafferty though? Its always a laugh when Rangers sign a dud especially one who plays like an incontinent giraffe but it is a bit concerning that he was identified by our own scouting team also.

Anyway its not a day for that. Its a day for looking at the league table and smiling while texting huns with the above "temperature 7 below in Govan tonight" joke.

Big Liam

Class!

Jinkysboy -

Those odds do indeed tell a story!

I also hope SuperSally gets the role he was promised - I can't see him doing anything for them - certainly not turning their season around. My guess is the fans would be on his back faster than you could say "I boffed Sue Barker".

re kyle lafferty

i'm not on here often so i'd forgive you if you didnt pay any mind to what i say but we were never really interested in him.

Thats now the THIRD time Celtc have beat ICT while coincidently Rangers got gubbed by Hearts in an early kick off.

Omen CSC.

TTTT from last night am now officially barred from Radio Clyde.

I called rc and spoke with peter martin to ask why ah was'nt getting on.

He said that i was barred for calling mike mcurry a cheat and such inflamotory comment could have resulted in clyde being sued by mccurry.

Ah replied that in the interests of accuracy ad called mccurry either a coward or a cheat.I followed this up by saying tHat if his concern was about clyde'S legal psition then why would he(martin)chose to read out emails calling Steve Conroy a cheat and subsequent to ma ban Craig levein had in effect said what ad said about mccurry and ah take it he's not barred.

Thats got nothing to do with you,av made a decision and to head off your next move av told the managing director why av banned you.

Surely it has a bearing ah said if your position is that inflamotory comment can lead the station to be sued yet you seem happy to indulge in it at other times.

Your not listening he says there is no agenda against you i took the decision.

With that i said ok and hung up.

To the other guys who made points last night that ah never came back on excuse ma silence ah was oot last night from 9 and tonight an knackd.

It was a good day .

Did anybody from the club ever say we were after Lafferty?

Michael Collins

Another example of mejia biase in Scotland

We go after Lafferty and they sign him - he has been a real failure and hardly gets a match while they struggle to sub seven

We sign Loovens - he doesnt hold a place in the team 7 pints clear with the best defensive record in the country and the Scotland CH pairing.

Whats the mejia take - only that Loovens is a flop.

Since the 1-0 home defeat against Motherwell in April, Rangers have dropped 22 points more than Celtic.

jinkysboy

Thank you very much for sharing your site, and for those few pictures of our friend Kano. Few days ago, I had a privilege to talk to oldtim67, and I know how much everybody was engaged in that project. I don’t know why these dark days come, but I know that there are people who can give the light. My thoughts still with Martin, and with his family.

Dick Byrne
You have the special place too.

Tobi Legend - that stat says a lot....

From last article

If anyone wants to see some pics from the CQN Kano tribute day check out my bebo page - berniek31

Sorry to lower the tone on here but i feel this is well worth a view. from the Darvel's forum..

I am with you on the point that Celtic will slump but under Smith we will not take advantage of this.

We saw when Burke, yes Burke and Novo came on that this was the way to go yet Smith still plays with Adam and Lafferty.

Sorry but our manager is tactically inept, does not appear to do his homework on the opposition and indeed tight now I am struggling to say anything positive about the guy.

He should go now before all the good memories have been wiped out by his disastrous return.

We don't have someone to take us forward, we have a guy who is taking us backward and would be better off in a museum.

Indeed it is even making me woder whether Murray should actually have persevered with PLG. We might have had a sh1tty season but maybe now we would have something worth developing rather than what we have.

Laughing my a** off

Paul,

Good day due to good football results. Still a long way to go and we need to strengthen in January particularly in defence. I missed Abg game attending Bayen Munchen (Alan McInally spelling) via SB on tues. However although defence did ok today - robson/naylor excepted - they are not up to the task in hand. As on one of my few previous posts I do not like to pick out individuals who do not perform as it is a team game.

On the business side we need a bit of perspective; we have made as much money as FY07 due to CL and RFC tv money. so tues from a pure financial viewpoint is not a problem.

Several threads ago you had posted the financial aspects relating to this season for RFC. I view this season as the 30/30 season for
RFC. 30 Million Revenue - 30 Million Debt. Next Season the crystal ball predicts 20 Million Revenue - 43 Million Debt (20/40 scenario).

RFC have a major risk ; in todays financial crisis which will really bite HY09 RFC supporters may be reluctant to part with ST money unless they are guaranteed RFC will still exist as the current entity.

Indeed interesting times ahead , we need to analyse every possibility and plan accordingly. However no matter we must but defenders in january.

PS. gerd muller told me tuesday that podolski is finished with Bayern Munchen and why not celtic.

Good result, or rather two good results today. Not the most exciting game I've seen all season, but ICT were worthy opponents today and could conceivably have taken a point against a clearly tired Celtic side. No complaints today, except for the blatant yet not at all shocking hunnery from the referee. Seven points ahead, but as WGS said on the radio, not a comfortable lead. It's certainly not bad though, and I'll be amazed if we're not further ahead on or by the 27th of December.

Zbyszek

There are many dark days - so when the daylight comes we should all feel its warmth

This is not just any old website - this is a Celtic website and its the CQN community.

BTW - here we go - four in a row.

Jinksybhoy

At some point in the very near future the media are going to turn against Smith and Murray. Then the flood gates will open and it wont be pretty.

I really hope that McCoist is the next manager of Rangers. I think that would guarantee the league for us for the forseeable future.

DM has got them in a position where they simply cannot attract a top manager. It will be a succession of "done well with no money types" who he hopes will keep them within spitting distance of us, with a slightly bigger budget than they've been used to.

Question time bhoys and ghirls

Did we play better today than tuesday (i think not)

In the last 10 mins did we come under more pressure than against AAB (I think we did)

did we create more clear cut chances today than tuesday (I think not)

Did WGS subs make a difference more today than against AAB ( not any difference and almost same switches)

yet tonight we are happy and sitting 7 poiints clear while FF is in freefall

Perspective

Jinkysboy, I enjoyed looking at your photo's and I pray for Kano and his family.

Good to see Chick Young getting involved in your last pic........

Rankers managerial prospects

IMHO

McCoist = Rankers man with no experience

Jeffreys - A closet bluenose with no wins ever against us but cheap (not cheerful) and used to dealing with nought

Levein - The choice of anyone there with half a brain - used to dealing with little cash and a good man manager and tactician. No big time experience.

Anyone any other suggestions

Michael Collins

How bad are Rangers playing? Its shocking me after how easily they gubbed us and reaching the UEFA Cup final last season just how bad they've become.

I knew it in my bones that as soon as Ferguson got back in the team they'd fall apart but I didn't know by how much. Better get a bet on PaddyPower as they'll be paying out in a couple of weeks :-p

Well played also to all the other CQN'ers who took part, a true league of gents.

Perfect conclusion to a perfect day.

MC ....how about we try for him in the window ...meet the aspirations of the fans :¬))))))

Jinksyboy

Todays performance was so poor in comparison to Tuesday, just goes to show that the result is everything in football. We didnt have one shot on target in the whole second half.
Samaras form is strange, like he has turned back to the player of last season where he looked no better than an impact type player. Sheridan won more headers in 15/20 mins than he did for 65.

jinks

he refused to take the taxi money then went and bought the wee man a tammy...

oltim67 you are a true gent and i and the wee one are really grateful..

photos are good mate.....

For me one of the great aspects of the stats since the Motherwell game at CP in April is that it has shown that Celtic (management & players) have acquired the very high level of mental toughness, and bravery necessary to perform and win through at the top level in our goldfish bowl environment.

A similar type of toughness is necessary at Rangers, and to be fair they have often exhibited it in former years when apparently inferior teams have won through for them to our horror. They clearly do not have it now.

The great thing for me is that this cannot be bought in, it cannot be implanted easily. If Walter and Ally go, it will be some time before they have the management who understand the dynamic. I think the 27th Dec could be a really significant nail in the Rangers coffin if Celtic wins. Mind you next weeks home defeat with Hamilton after Celtic win at Easter Rd might be the final straw for many ?

Happy days.

jinkybhoy

the only manager that the rotten mob could attract would be a suitably "handsome" hun /raving son of william ....ergo ...no one of any real quality

At the club today one of our members brought up a point about goal scorers and Chris Boyd in particular, he mentioned how rarely Boyd has scored against Celtic, Hibs, Aberdeen and Hearts, I've read this elsewhere but I've never actually seen it and nobody had any data to back it up. Do any of the PC literate crowd have a site where this data can be accessed?

SOAL

Will add the name for you - should I add the other memebers of the GITW cast?

Son of William indeed - would he fit the profile? Uganda - be better bringing the Last king of Scotland back from there to manage TFOD. Win the league or I will shoot you all !!!!

pggtips2

Make no mistake about it. This Rangers team are pants. I watched them play against Hamilton away a few weeks ago and it was brain bleeding stuff.

Smith is clueless. I remember speaking to an Everton fan re Smiths disasterous time at Goodison and he said Smith's Everton side contained Centre halfs all over the park. Looks like he's going the same way with Der Hun.

Any team with Kirk Clubfoot, Christian Dailly, Lee McCulloch and Kenny Miller in it will always be good for a laugh.

One word of caution however is that I feel Smith knows how to play the Old Firm game. He knows the buttons to push to get the fundametalist members of his squad fired up. I bet there will be plenty of talk about fenians and taigs in the Hun dressing room before the game on the 27th. I still dont fancy our chances.

Looks like it wont make much difference though.

Burnley 78

they are on the rack and no mistake ....the dynamic duo / back to basics hasn`t worked and .....minty is skint ...troubling times ahead

BTW ...today was a an exercise in showing how much we miss a proper left back

BR was lost ...very lost at times

LN ...no thanks

a real problem

Adam

I do know he has only scored one goal against us for either Kille or them. Heard the commentator say today he had never scored for them at tynecastle but had scored once for kille there.
I believe his record to be poor against the "top" teams

PFayr

On Samual Eto'o.

We wont sign him. He doesnt play in the SPL and Rangers arent after him. :)

just some random ideas-

Craig levein, Alan Curbishley, Gerard Houllier, Claudio Ranieri, Dave Jones, Sam Allardyce.

Adam

there ya go - sorry, lost the will to live as I started to count - there is the facility to go back through previous seasons.

Interesting facts for him? When he's scored, Scotland have never lost. Honours won? Two - cups last season. Ha ha.

My heids all over the place with Celtic this week. I have gone from being thoroughly miserable 2 being quite chirpy about matters Celtic. One minute I think we r rank and so what if we win the league the board r still taking the gash out of me by not investing more money in big name signings and co-ercing me in2 buying a 3 game package for the Champions league games and the next I think get over yourself we r doing ok, getting in2 the Champions league, winning leagues, getting a £50 season ticket for my daughter.Still, what can I do? I am 2 easily influenced when it comes 2 Celtic,I have given up listening 2 the radio phone-ins, so rank r they, and I mainly catch up via CQN and other sites. Anyhow, I still think a lot of the games r rubbish 2 watch but I also think I would b even more down if I stopped going to them. Apologies to all for rambling but I feel better now.

Saw the mention for Kano on the big screens.
Read the comments on here.
Get well soon sir.

celt for life and PF ayr:
I've heard of his(Boydchenko) rank rotten record but does anyone know how I can access that info?

MC - I'm starting to get more and more ambivalent about the Rangers games. I don't really feel that they're worthy of treatment any different of any other SPL team. As much as I don't like losing to any team I'd take four losses to them and still winning the SPL, whereas I'm sure there are people that wouldn't.

BB

Surely they would go for the 2 Jimmys after Sir Walter. LOL
Alex Rae is available.....

A wonderful day. The sort of day we might well remember come May.
Enjoy it.

Evenin' Paul and All!!!

Great result if not the performance to match.

Thank God I'm not coming on to say

"great performance if not the result to match"!!!

7 points is quite a gap considering 12 games ago we were 3 behind.

And don't let anyone tell you at work on Monday its because TFOD are so mince.

They ARE mince, but we had to put the run together, nothing to do with them what we have achieved since 31/08.

Now, going into December I think we are away 3 weeks out of 4, including The Death Star.

We must keep this run going or all the good work of the last 3 months will, like their win at CP in August, mean nothing.

Cheers mate, that should do me nicely

official club website informs us of the death of yet another ex-Celt - Gil Heron RIP

All we need to cap a wonderful day is for Donegaldanny to be in a good mood??

coorslad

i spoke to vinny today and he meantioned you, i was over in derry a few years ago for a supporters doo, how is wee owen keeping..

NatKnow, the question for Rangers is, if not McCoist, who?

Who would take that job?

celtic4me, Celtic bid for Lafferty. We bid for Naismith a year before. Some will tell you that we doubled the price Rangers paid for each player.

They would be right.

Baresi, some good point on Rangers finances, there will be more on this in the coming week.

We have a big enough lead going into January to cause all sorts of panicky reactions at Ibrox.

Agree we need to continue to push forward in the transfer market and I expect we will. On the defence, Gary Caldwell is my man of choice at the moment.

Burnley'78, I know your “home defeat with Hamilton” next week comment is tongue in cheek, but we know how all games are difficult when confidence is lost.

And remember, it is Hamilton, they have form there.

craggy island gaa, it sure was.

ADAM

KB (Kris..btw ...nouvue and cool )

has a good goalscoring record
but

not the scorer of good goals ..nor does he score often when his team needs it

Henke was a master at scoring important goals

KB more of an Andy Walker type...remember him ...he scored a barrel load ..but McAvennie scored most of the important ones

No one is saying as much, and I understand the reluctance, but I'm amongst friends, so ...

Today is the day we won the league.

Believe.

I'll be waiting to celebrate properly - lots of games yet to go. But if Rearrangers couldn't capitalise on that midweek result - and have ended up further behind instead - I think the final result isn't in doubt.

You can tell by Mendes' comments that they were only folk less happy than us with the Aaarborg result. And they were right to be. And now they've dropped more points they'll be cacking themselves.

I'll not be holding my breath for an analysis of the huns points/win ration with Kevin Thompson in the side vs bazza but it would be illuminating.

Standing up for the (four in a row) Champions

kris boyds scoring record for scotland is 7 in 15

he's scored against bulgaria, faroe islands, georgia, south africa and lithuania

he's scored 3 in 17 in europe according to wiki

That was the happiest day of my life today........after the week we've had..!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....I'm sitting right through the WHOLE game the day singing or whistling to myself..

O the rangers are shoite, O the rangers are shoite......best ever

Bit early, perhaps, but is it.......?????

Blantyretim, if its Owen mc Givern {sectary}DERRY NO 1 CSC your askin fer Owen sadly passed away earlier this year, agreat freind and massive Celt.

Paukl67 7 Kojo,

You know i really like Shaun, however, i am in agreement with you up until the goal Shaun was struggling. Sayiing that thought he goal was brilliant. His movement was top class and the pass from Naka was genius. It was like the telepatheic understanding they used to have before he wen to Villa.

I think Shaun is low in confidence just now and is scared to try things as i think he's still feels that he has to prove something. He's trying to keep things simple. Only thiing is that isn't his game. In second half at the start we seen glimpses when he ran at defenders and skinned them. He dissapeared again after that. He's slowly getting there and that goal today would have done him the world of good.

Paul67,

Lafferty??? I smell a rat, did Owen request we make our interest known to drive the price up? Seriously though i never like the look of him, however he was getting rtaving reports. I seen him in action against either Spain or Sweden once and he was alright as centre forward and scored a cracker. I still don't rate him though, although i think WS is playing him in the wrong position.

Alan Curbishley - he is hoping for a return to the EPL soon - no UEFA experience and no SPL either and no funds to improve them

Claudio Ranieri - See GH

Dave Jones - bring him please

Sam Allardyce - see AC

Rangers are now the same amount of points above Hearts as they are behind us.

Hearts may fancy a challenge for second place.

Paul67 -"We have a big enough lead going into January to cause all sorts of panicky reactions at Ibrox." - things are looking great at the minute and all credit to the Bhoys for that -but from my time on here I would have thought you would have been 1 of the last to be "counting chickens"? -sincerely hope that will be the case though!

Hail Hail to 4IAR!

Paul67

Terry here, need to give you a call on Monday re. Training, you about Monday morning?

The display was turgid, uninspiring and frustrating.
Having said that the Huns will be wishing they were as turgid, uninspiring and frustrating as we were but still collected three points.
Oh for a midfielder that can deliver a killer pass a la Lubo. Naka's knackered, where was Caddis today? And Big Bad Ben seems to have disappeared somewhere between Lennoxtown and Celtic Park!

Now all we have to do is bury them on 27/12/08, do that and the league is ours, they'll be up for it that day make no mistake about that, we'll have to be brave and physically 'up for the scrap' a draw or a win will do it. We are surely due a result at Ipox, when was the last time we humbled the Huns in their own midden?

viewfaethewindae

he got to really love it as well

Jinkysbhoy,

Saw Kano tribute on the big screen. Well done to you and to all who were involved.
I would like to look at the photos on your Bebo site. How do I go about that?

Tried to get the final rankers score on the way to CP today and put on Clyde thinking it would be over. I just heard Peter Martin say "the assistant is about to hold up the board. Nineteen minutes being added on". Switched off again and waited, only to hear that it was still going on five minutes into injury time with no injuries. Keevins said Rankers played route 1 football all day and deserved nothing from the game.

On the nonsense about Artur Boruc, The Lonely Goalie, I was asking myself how many people I work with I would consider to be my mates. I suspect that a heck of a lot of people work very day with colleagues they dont particularly like or get on with and probably have no real friends at work. No big deal really.
I also find it puzzling that he can be shown a card for an action that is within the rules and that visiting keepers to CP carry out with monotonous regularity with rebuke from the masom in the black/green/yellow/blue or whatever colour he happens to be wearing that day.

I thought todays MIB was particularly poor, frequently getting himself into positions that interfered with potential passes from Celtic players or routes that one of our players could have taken out of trouble. I accept that these are genuine errors but the old adage about a good ref not being noticed could hardly have been used today. Also impressed by Naka's work rate and tackling at various times today.

that was his point when he was interviewed on the radio after the game today ...he fancies a go at the hun ....didn`t mention challenging us though

aye,I agree on all choices ultimately and I never understood why Levein isnt there already,I hope McCurrygate last season put paid to any interest in him but Id doubt they'd be that stupid.PLG was a surprise when it happened so dont bet on it being somebody obvious, hows about Stuart McCall (rhymes with LOL)!

Paul67,

Agree 100% about Gary Caldwell. The sooner we get him on a longer contract the better.

hi six
out of hibernation i see welcome ta ya

I was sent a site
http://www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=24762
where the data on goals scored by individual players can be accessed, by my count in almost eight seasons Boydchenko has scored against Hearts- 9, Aberdeen-5, Hibs- 9, Celtic-1, not a very good tally for the greatest goalscorer in Scotland

I don't think Levein would touch Rangers with a barge pole. I think he despises them actually. I think Craig would be a contender for the job after GS if he waited. Fits the criteria PL and DD would like. More resources available at Celtic for him to lay with as well. Can certainly pick up good players with the budget available to him. Bigger budget at Celtic would allow him to realise his potential.

When the day does come and maybe after 10 in a row and a CL cup :)One contender i think as well as Levein would be a goos shout is Mick McCarthy. Doing an excellent job at Wolves and built a great young team for nought. If he gets Wolves promoted and keeps them their then he got to be a contender. Millwall, ROI, Sunderland and now Wolves. He would have one each of these clubs promotion on a shoestring. He never got the backing at Sunderland when they reached the EPL. If half the moneyb that Keane got to spend was giving to big Mick i reckon they would be sitting pretty in the EPL at the moment.

just looked at the league table we've played 16 games, lost one and drawn one, 14 victories.

thats the best record out of the top 15 leagues in europe at this stage. gordon strachan and the bhoys really should get some more credit for how consistent we've been domestically this season.

Life is good again!

What a great week!

Paul67 and GaryGillespie,

As one guy said to me, the improvement in GC is unbelievable and watching him today organising the defence around him. I'll go one better and say Caldwell is a leader and in my eyes should be capatain. I blogged earlier that Andy Hinkel looked edgy on Tuesday probably because GC was not beside him. The two of them seem to have a great understanding down that right hand side and it's brought Hinkel to the fore and onto a game for me.

kevtic
a great weekend,aye....

my final tally from last night was £1242.00
st andrews hospice will receive that donation pretty soon...

When at Killie KRis VAN BOYD never scored against Us
and only scored once against the darkside (his last apperance for Killie)

He has scored at least once for HVNs against us in a 2-0
win at Ipox(might be wrong with game stats) and i thought ARTUR was a bit suspect .....
but i don't rememeber any more.

He does have plenty against sheep Arabs etc but even more against EAST FIFE STRANRAER East Stirling etc and three of his scotland goals were against FAROES.

AM I PARANOID but when SAMARAS scores it is " 12 goals in 15 games"
when i know he probably had 6 or 7 games as SUB.

KB scores " his 12 goal in only 13 starts" forgeting 12 as a sub.

i cant agree about mccarthy and levein. mccarthy's record at millwall, sunderland and wolves is poor, but its better than leveins at leicester.

strachan might not have won anything in england but he had a good few years managing at the highest level in england unlike mccarthy and levein.

Blantryetim,i believe we have met wey yer father in DERRY acouple of years back, i think George mc Closkey may have been over to.Your father was a guest of our club on a few occasions, and is a true gentleman and great ambassador of all things Celtic.he never forgets me when he sees me and gave me and my son and wife a majic day at celtic pk.he took us as his guests on the tour and well exceded his duties.please pass on my regards.going over fer the hearts game,so hope to meet up with some of yous,il organize wey Vinny,.. McCarthy is a championship manager ...one season in the EPL with Makems ....absolute disaster

Evening all.

What a week! We have the heartrending disappointment of Tuesday, then the joy of extending our lead at the top of the SPL. Just shows the rollercoaster of emotions being a Celtic supporter brings.

Anyway saw this and thought it was funny.

http://www.celticforum.net/celtic-news/5328-celtic-announce-new-sponsor.html

Danny Junior has been to 5 home SPL games this season: we've won every game with clean sheets: 1-0 (St Mirren & today), 2-0 (Mwell, 3-0 (Falkirk))& 4-0 (Hamilton).

100% record with no goals conceded. Should I try to upgrade his ticket to include the huns game (too late obv for the first one)?

Danny Jnr (6) thought Hinkel was MoM - and I have to agree

Dont know if everyome noticed but Celtic Shops have 20% off until 5.30 tomorrow

Celtic4me,

You think of Wolves when McCarthy took over? He slowly built a good team. Rome was not built in a day. Wolves were a shambles. It was the same at Sunderland. Got Sunderland promoted then no money to spend once promoted. I wouldn't say that was poor. I would say that is being hung out to dry. Promoted to the EPL and go with basically the same squad. Levein's time at Leciester was disastrous. It was a club in turmoil and resulted in many take overs. He never exactly had the time to build something. Craig Levein is one of the best managers in Scotland in my view IMO.

Jinkysboy

Seen the pics on your bebo page, its a fantastic thing you and the guys have done, hearts of gold one and all.

I would appreciate it if you added my moniker to Kano's shirt. I meant to ask GL2 to do it for me.

Raging that I missed last weekend in Greenock to meet up with friends from past (grew up with Vinny...yes many stories to tell there) and gain new ones. Another time hopefully.

WGS

Mick McCarthy? I couldnt specifically say why but instinct tells me NAW!!!

in 10 years time when GS calls time there will be a multitude wanting to make their name with us,what with our vast resources etc etc.

WGS

I also think that Andreas Hinkel is now looking like the player that we all hoped he would be. I think that he has now realised what the SPL is all about and that the physical side of the game is very important.I also felt that last season he tended to get drawn too far in towards the centre of the defence, leaving room for the winger to get down the left hand side. He has improved greatly this year.

I hope this is the last time GS experiments with Barry Robson at left back. I thought his lack of pace and tendency to wander forward could have been costly today if the Inverness wide player on the right had been more incisive with his final ball.
I don't mean this to sound like I am having a pop at Barry Robson. I like his attitude and the bite and skill he brings to our team. I just think he is out of position at left back.

I know too well, how much you like Shaun, pal.

Howevahhhhhhhhhhh...

You must get this idea that one must be true unto death, concerning where one's loyalty, doth lie.

Loyalty?

Loyalty and 3 Bucks, wull get ye a Big Mac and and Bag o' French Fries at yer local McDs.

Be like me,pal...

Dinna know whit a Praggy is?... well, figger it oot!

When points and goals are at stake, as far as Celtic Go.. Loyalty takes a hoaliday!

Face it,kiddo...

I believe that Molly showed a wee bit o improvement, the day.

That wiz fine.. but, He must dae a heckava loat mair.. afore he could evah, evah, get an invite tae join... Kojo's Fair Haired Bhoys and Downtown Strutters Marching Band..

Yep.. he is, at this moment, in no danger of receiving that kinda invite!

My opinion oan the woith o a player, simply depends oan how the wind is blawin'

If he is IMPROVIN and daein a bang up joab.. then.. he is ma Darlin Bhoy..

Oan the ither haun if the wind chinges direction..and he is turnin in a coupla indecent performances.. then..

Ye Guessed it..

Now I canny be bothered wi' him.. and ah hiv Taken the Scunner!

Simple.. Easy tae understand..

And ye kin be like me pal.. if ye could jist lose that Albatross , called Loyalty.. that hings roon yer neck.

Waken up and follow the band.

Naebody's opinion kin be depended oan, tae remain the same for evah and evah.

And that is a fact.

And if everyboady who is anyboady, realised that... then everything wid mak sense..

Nevahtheless... Along comes that pesky, Loyalty.. and spiles everything and mixes up everything topsy turvey..

If a guy is no playing well then... Drap him.. gies us a chinge..

But.. there ye go....Loyalty, comes sneakin in... and interferes with wit yer guid Uncoammon Sense is tellin ye!

Ah've seen it's woik, oan here before.. durin' the Stan era.. n later.. in the Lenno, era...

When everybody knew that Stan wiz playin Poorly and fur a whole hauf a season at that... and Lenno wiz finished, kaput, loast it...

But no.. there were still ither contributers oan here, who stuck tae these guys thro thin and thinner...

and

Why?

Ye goat it...

Misplaced Loyalty.. that's whit!

Dinna be feared tae point out that a player is no pushin' the pram.

Scold him.. embarrass him.. be Honest.... fur Pity's sake.

Naebody, is gonna get mad at you.

Ye are only...

"Telling it as it Lays!"

By the way.. speaking aboot.. Koki..

Now there is a ready made and eager replacement, fur Molly, in the Celtic Eleven..

Sure...

Gie Koki Bendi a shot.

I believe he wid be a Big, Big,Big,Big, Improvement oan Molly.

Kojo.
yer pal.. who likes ye.. but knows ye wull no pay the slightest heed tae whit ah hiv bin sayin'

Guy's,

Mick has unearthed a gem of a player called Michael Kightly. Really good player!! Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake no bad either.

Blantyre look forward to it,

WGS

he bought Ebanks -Blake

he also made a real pig`s ear of Sunderland at the finish

Kojo,

I agree with you players not performing should be dropped and i said that a couple of weeks ago with regaqrds Shaun to a few friends to see if the time out will get him back to his best.

However, if were are talking about loyalty then there a couple of players that should be considered as well, don't you think? Thwey seem to be undroppable as well.

wgs

mccarthy has built a good team for the championship, thats not enough for me. maybe he'll go on to be a great manger one day, but he's still got a lot to prove to me before i think he's good enough for celtic. its a massive step up form teh championship or relegation zone to the champions league.

same with levein, a good manager, an intelligent man and the best manager in scotland outwith celtic and rankgers, but still too much of a jump in class to come to celtic. just doesnt feel like a good fit for me.

Pfyar,

Banks i just seen come to promience this year, know nothing about him and his history but he looks decent.

Cheers PF Ayr

but the woman from Delmonte says NO (shockeroony)

Maybe I need to "arrange" a soft play party on the 27th.mmmm

rangers will hammer Accies next week but thats fine.

It's their away form that is their problem - it's almost as bad as ours in the CL!

Pfyar,

Sunderland he took over, got them promoted then no money to spend when promoted, that's unlucky in my view. Keane has spent a fortune and they are struggling. Mogga spent a few quid as well and he's struggling. You don't spend some cash when you get promoted, then your asking for relegation especially in the EPL. Derby and Watford done the same.

Anyone know what Rnkers away record against top six opposition over the past year? I have a feeling it is pretty rank, but I might well be wrong on that. If it is as I think, then there is a fair chance they will drop more points before we meet them.

ggh

Tonight I only want to say God bless Kano

Bradford,

fair point.

WGS

so he`s in the losers squad with the rest

Paul67
Hartley +Brown defended resolutely at our 30 yard because of our central defenders insistence on making a permanent stance at the edge of our penalty box.
This is the reason our central midfield has to vast an area to cover and why they dont get upfield often enough to support our isolated frontmen.

GGH.......

From memory, Rangers won only one away game against the top six, Hibs.

We now play the five teams immediately below us in the table plus Falkirk. Four of these games are away from home. Come January 18 both the Hoops and the Rearrangers will then have played 11 home games and 11 away games. If we are still seven points (or more) clear then , I will be delighted. They play us, Hamilton, Hibs and Falkirk at home and Dundee Utd and ICT away over the same period.

WGS,
WGS,

When I saw Connery, I immediately thought of Telly Savalas' version of "If".
Another ad worth a look if you are after a laugh is Murdo McLeod on Celtic TV plugging the DVD with all the season's games. If ever there was an example of how not to read an autocue, this is it.
Too wooden to get a part in "The Woodentops". Maybe Gepetto can turn him into a real bhoy.

I am reading the latest Celtic history book at the moment and there is an interview with a supporter who harks back to the days of macaroon bars being available at Celtic Park. Any chance it is one of our guys?

Vmhan you done well.....i heard ye bought a drink .....naw?

Fatherandbhoy,

Thanks

I had a feeling it was pretty bad but I didn't realise we had such a difficult run of fixtures ourselves. I am glad we have the points on the board.
I am still hopeful that we will take most of the points available to us before we play them.

If we can maintain the gap until 27th Dec and draw at Ipox, I reckon that would mean that the league would be out of Rankers' own hands before the end of December and they would be needing other teams to do them favours.

Under those circumstances, I would not like to speculate about the effect that would have on the cardigan's position.

FIAGOTTPF2, you will find few Rangers fans prepared to argue with you.

WGS, if we want the best out of Shaun we need to play him in the creative heart of the midfield. This is where he has always done his best work.

celtic4me, exactly.

Sixoclockatthechapel, on my quote: if Rangers are >4 points behind in January I expect them to hold a fire sale in January. As for counting chicks, not sure I did that, but I am very confident that we will win the league.

Tomdickfoolery, I’m out on Monday, will be back after lunch.

Garygillespieshamstring, WGS, agree on Gary. On Rangers away record against the top six, they won only one away game against top six opposition all last season, at Easter Road, although they managed to equal this achievement in August this season.

Kojo, Koki, totally agree.

fan-a-tic, the central midfield should be offering far more than they did today. Covering your central defenders at home to Inverness is not a good reason to be playing so deep.

celtforlife,

If it were the Whites and Kellys who owned the concession, I am sure that the declared figure would be a lot less than the actual.

It reminds me of a story about two mourners at Desmond White's funeral. After the burial was over, one guy said to the other "that was a great turn out for Desmond's funeral".
The other guy replied "It'll be a few thousand less when you read about the attendance in the papers tomorrow

By push on in the transfer window you mean....

I know we tried to get Vukojevic and Basa, two players - or types of players - we could do with! We have been linked with some good players, just hope some of them arrive! the Bosnian playing in Poland looks a good player, am sure Zybzek knows him well.

There are a few good players still in Croatia, we need to look here closely before others do the same.

What shall we sing?

Dobbo,

Zybsek mentioned a guy called Krasic the other day. He is dynamite. I mentioned him a few weeks ago as good yin to look at. Also Stilic looks the part as well. He is similar to Naka with his touc, technique and left foot. Seen some clps on the net of him. Looks the part. I agree we should be looking into the eastern european market more.

WGS

Does Hibs count as eastern european market (Grass)

Paul 67
They have to sit deep to stop situations like Wednesdays 1st goal if they go forward to support the gap behind is huge.It leaves opponents to much room to exploit in last 3rd.
McManus retreats to penalty box as soon as opponents gain possession and the distance between our defense + forwards is huge. Our central defenders habit of opening the space means our central mids have an enormous area to cover .This is why we struggle in Europe so badly as quality players have room to pick us off.
This also cause us not to play like a unit as our forwards are very isolated when our mids have to be so defensively deep.2nd half today was perfect example of this. When McManus +Caldwell hoof it forward they both make no attempt to get upfield but stay waiting for the next defensive assignment. If they pushed out our central mids could push up and help the forwards but because they don't mids have to also stay deep leaving forwards outmanned.

WGS

Yeah - particulally given the likelyhood that Naka will be off in the summer. Krasic -is he the guy at CSKA? Perhaps a bit late for him, but you never know! the guy i was thinking of is called Kalinic i think. the one thing we need is a central midfielder who has presence and can control a game, delivering the kind of passing we see off Naka. Not a bad player!

What do you think of the striking situation? Vennegoor seems injury prone - would Marc Janko make sense?

PETER LAWWELL has launched a scathing attack on former pin-up Bhoy and TV pundit Charlie Nicholas.

The Celtic chief executive was furious at the Sky analyst’s criticism after the Hoops crashed out of the Champions League in Aalborg.

He came out fighting on all fronts following the disaster in Denmark promising:

FUNDS for boss Gordon Strachan in the January transfer window;

TO hang on to Japanese star Shunsuke Nakamura rather than letting him return to the J-League with Yokohama Marinos;

A KICKING for the moaners who predict a bleak European future for the Hoops.

Lawwell launched into his strongest defence of the Celtic board after fears the “biscuit tin” mentality was creeping back among the men holding the purse strings, with ex-Parkhead striker Nicholas getting both barrels.

He said: “I don’t accept the squad wasn’t strong enough at the start of the season. We always want better, and always want more players. But recent results have proved the squad is strong enough.
“As for Charlie Nicholas, the guy appears to be a serial Celtic critic. He doesn’t know what is going on in this club, he has got no idea how a club is run. He appears to be bitter and somewhat paranoid. Although I have not been in the game for my entire life, the time I have been in it has taught me to only recognise the opinions of people you respect. Therefore, I don’t recognise his comments. The guy has obviously got a problem with Celtic for some reason....

Looks like it the picture are definitley down then :)

Bloke_109, aye, great ad.

Dobbo, I’ve no real info on who to expect in January, it’s a bit early yet, but I’m hoping we get another mid-season pickup.

vinny_bhoy, first class, from a good Celtic man too.

fan-a-tic, against Inverness, and I could add Aalborg, our central midfield players need to dominate play well before our own last third.

The key to doing this is to keep possession, good accurate passing and controlling the ball when it comes to you. If they do this, we defend much further up field.

WGS, where did you take PLs comments from?

larkin1907 - very funny

Paul

I hope so too - the irony of course is that we (now) probably do not need to strengthen in January! However I am a strong believer that if we can get a good player in, then we should do it!

WGS
Interesting quotes from the SSM.

Great work by Celtic, Jinksybhoy and all the BB people today, I have a few photos of the big screen shot for Kano due in my in box soon will get them out to people soon.

RIP Gil Heron. His on Gil Scott Heron was right, its not just on the TV.

cheers mn

deserves to be a classic and needs more hits

Dobbo,

JVOH. Was delighted when we signed him. Though this was going to be his season big time then he got injured. He has benn very unlucky woth injuries and i think if Martin Jol offers the £6 million i would bag it and buy a replacement. Janko looks alright, Vedad Ibisevic and Obasi from Hoffenheim look dynamite as well.
Owen on a Bosman is a tasty one for me as well. Certainly take Janko if indeed true we are looking at him.

I'm going to put the tin hat on here and say if we receive a double figure bid for Aiden i would grab it as much as it would hurt. Big fee like that could be used to get the glaring issues in the team that need sorted. If we got guy's like Koki and hopefully Jeffren Suraez from Barca then we got decent replacements.

Paul67

Maybe this post has a lot to do with our CL failings

Nakamura behind only Samaras in goal scoring chart

Paul 67,

you may have allready responded to my questions of yesterday but i havnt been able to catch up on the comments till now if you dont mind copuld you respond again please

1) will Celtic declare an operation profit at the next interim results.

2) do Celtic currently have a cash surplus (not sash surplus as I previously asked lol).

3) what is the repayment term of the last reported £3,25m debt

ps. thats the worst game i have been to in a long time, terrible boring mundane, uninvented performance from the bhoys.

Naka needs a rest. and the rest need a star added to the team

Paul67,

In tomorrows papers.

Would someone like Podolski from Bayern be out of our range, out of favour at Bayern and still very young at 23 despite having well over 50 caps?

Sunday post online got an interview. I got that summary from another site.

Paul67 -

I think we're on the same wavelength re: Rangers managerial options. If not McCoist, who? You might add...if not now, when?! His lack of experience has already been mentioned - which is why I think he would not last.

Some of the names mentioned by others make sense (Williamson, Calderwood etc.) - though I don't think Craig Levein would be interested.

a wee tune I remember from my childhood, and the Greenock Shammy.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AaPa6NspXuI

Paul67
They cant venture and dominate further upfield if there is a huge gap behind them caused by our defense sitting so deep.It would leave a huge hole for opponents to exploit.
Witness how our centre halfs rarely reach the half way line.
I want our midfielders to play higher up the field but our central defenders negate that possibility.
We do not play as a ten man outfield unit because our central defenders do not push up.
Its a simple game open space when you have the ball and compress when opponents have it.
Our defenders do opposite.
My priority in January window would not only be a left back but a centre half who controlled our backline.

WGS

I agree that (central) midfield and defence needs addressing - and that selling a player or two to fund this might help.

I doubt we'd get £6m for JVOH, but if we did then we should get stuck in! There are plenty of good bosmans about.... Mark van Bommell for one...

Jeffren would be nice too, oh and a left back! There is a young Serb who is supposed to be good, and a bloke at AZ.

The only post that worried me today was sannabhoy's on Rangers' recent form. Their 3 wins were against Hibs (twice) and us.

Does that mean they only play against teams wearing green?

Should we not wear the hoops at Ibrox?

That's a rhetorical question BTW.

I think we should wear hooped shirts, hooped shorts and hooped socks. Green and white hooped boots and matching jockstraps too.

Cfl

As we now have a large polish support i dont think yer man Podolski is the answer.

And as Paul67 caught me out with my polish last time i will add no further comment

LEE Brandon

wgs

thats an andy gray wow. thats a hold my jacket roll up my sleeves come into me come on, and unlike pl. not sure i'm glad he's done it so publicly.

while i agree about a doulbe figure fee for aiden, the problem isnt having the money, its getting the good payers to come within our budgets. it's going to be the same this january with a left back. we'll end up with no better than we have.

Celtic Bob,
I didnt get a chance to thank you before for the links to the transalation for Oro Sé do Bheatha Bhaile , so I am thanking you now,

also, Ive grow to love this little sea shanty also, I think as much for the Barney McKenna preamble as much as the song itself.

Dobbo,

If true about Van Bommel then get him signed that's the sort we need for europe. AZ dude is good and i see the hungarian dude Hustzi is getting mentioned around sites. The defender in dutch football i like is Thomas Vermalen of Ajax.

Spirit of Arthur Lee

Don't do discrimination, leave that to the southsiders. We accept everyone, even those who choose to wear blue at one point.

Celtic4me,

There are tons of better players out their within our budget. It's just a case of looking in the right places and have a good knowledge of football. That's one criticism i have.

WGS

The problem i see is that (real) WGS does not seem to want a serious passer in central midfield - having such a player would all ow us to change the pattern of our play. tha van Bommel thing is true, he is 31 but would no doubt give 3/4 good seasons.
Mirel Radoi is a name that has gone quiet of late, although Inter were "sniffing".

Husti is a strange one, he seems more an Aiden type than Naka.

Quiz time ...........

Del Piero?? Raul??

ps..

if jinksybhoy is watching/lurking could you add my monicker to the shirt for kano??

would appreciate..

Hi chaps

Some of this may be belated, but as I never say, better late than never...

— Podolski: sorry, never gonna happen. As Celt for life underlined above, a 23yo 50 times-capped German international is never coming to the SPL. Especially after this season's CL results. Owen's not happening either.

— McCoist: will never manage the huns in the forseeable future. He'll destroy them from the inside out, even Minty must see that. All the heralding and bombast in the papers last week was exactly that. Who'll get the job? Depends on who has the keys to Mordor...

— The Swinecastle result: huge, as it's imperative we keep as much space between us the the Darnel before the 27th as, again, I think we'll lose. Because it seems WGS bottles it when he gets to Ipox – is it just another SPL game or is it more-or-less the equivalent to a CL away game? WGS thinks the latter therefore we fail. Why not have a go at them for the first time in years? We'll be enduring 90mins of TFS so at least give us something to enjoy with our eyes.

Still, they won't catch us either way. What is it those clowns say about a chase?

WGS

I think we miss JvoHeedering (and a lot more)he turned a few games last year by being in the right place at the right time and knowing what to do.
The two Samaras chances on Tuesday? The Sheridan half chance heeder against Man who when we were 1-0 up.

I wish he had been fully fit way back in our CL games, but thats history. But Id accept £6m tonight.

McGeady I will not comment on as I suspect there is media and general way of living pressure being put on him.

From the clips of the comics I see on here Im guessing Artur is being treated the same way.

On Gil Heron (RIP)

From the Official site.

FORMER Celtic player Gil Heron has died at the age of 87. He passed away in a nursing home in Detroit on Thursday, November 27.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Gil had been playing in the United States and was invited to Scotland and took part in a public trial at Celtic Park on August 4, 1951, scoring twice in the game.

It was enough to impress the club who signed him and he made his debut on August 18, 1951 in a League Cup tie against Morton at Celtic Park. He scored once in a 2-0 victory.

He stayed a year at Celtic, making five appearances and scoring two goals before joining Third Lanark.

He eventually returned to the United States, settling in Detroit. He was also the father of famous jazz musician, Gil Scott-Heron.

The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic are with Gil Heron’s family and friends at this sad time."

His son went on to great musical movements, Ive seen 'one of the fathers of Hip Hop' being quoted in reference to the son of the Celtic player.

Can I Kick It.

Husti is a left back is he not?
Dobbo,

I actually think GS does want that type of player in the centre. Only problem is he hasn't got one. Well he has but he is out injured just now Crosas. But we could do with another one like him to add. Massmio is similar but he hasn't adapted i don't think. The talent is there though.

Hartley can't do that role. I feel we haven't seen the best of Paul at Celtic. Had to change his game a bit. He's never a holding midfielder, although fair play to him he has had to adapt and done what is asked of him for the team. He has had few no bad games and all. In my book he get's my repsect and support. Team over self interest.

Estadio,

If Jan was playing in the CL then possibly we might have been looking at the last 16. He would have buried Cillian's chance against Man U and against Aalborg he would have finished Samaras chances as well. Jan is predator when giving the chance. Great finisher.

From KTF

Hearts extended their winning run to five matches with victory over the huns at Tynecastle today. But all is not well over on follow follow because they are now calling for wally and allys head as you can read below .
On the bright side celtic will go seven points clear today if they win at parkhead .

From Follow Follow
And as you can see they are not taken things to good.

POST 1

There are no excuses - Smith has to carry the can for the shambles that Rangers have become. Murray has given him the tools he has simply failed to do the job. From playing people out of position, from persisting with others who have demonstrated only mediocraty over a lengthy period of time, to the appalling and inexcuseable waste of 7.5 million on Lafferty, Edu and Velicka, whatever benefits Rangers derived from Smith's return after the PLG debacle has long since eroded. Sad to say, but I'm now afraid that as long as he remains at the helm, celtc will remain league champs.

POST 2

£26,800,000 spent and we have.

Centre halves at full back
Strikers out wide
Left wingers at centre back

You are not good enough Walter. Shut the door and take McCoist and McDowall with you.

A revolution is required at Ibrox.

Walter, Walter Walter...OUT OUT OUT!!

POST 3

agree mate, I absolutely agree. I actually gave up my season ticket at Ibrox after Smith was re-appointed!!!
His style of football is stuck with the same idea, the punted long diagonal ball and nothing else. It's like the hail mary play in American Football and we continually use it!
We ALL know it is hard to attract quality players from our previous years but we have no established scouting system (there's guys on this site who know more about current European and more based players than our clueless setup!), our youth system has it's successes but these will NEVER be seen with the current management!
Murray comes out with a statement about 'McCoist being the next Gers boss' well if that's the case and Ally's learning from Walter, the Taigs won't be far away from x amount in a row!
Broadfoot, Whittaker, Ferguson (now well and truly done!), Adam, Lafferty, Darcheville amongst others are woeful and not the required standard. We have no wide player who can beat a man and produce a quality cross, we have no player infact who can beat a man, Mendes was lauded as a playmaking genius; well since the result at the Piggery I think he's disaapeared up his own backside! We defend far too deep, because we have a 40 year old centre half who is not capable of dealing with pace. Need I go on???

POST 4

The man who blew 10 in a Row,
The man who blew a 10 point lead last season,
The man who blew UEFA cup final
The man who blew 26 million £ on shit like Lafferty, Whittaker, Vilicka, Edu, Mhisser, Mculloch

The man who ran out of ideas 15 years ago and had to rely on Gazza and Laudrup and only stays because he is Murray's poodle. At any other club he would have been as relevant today as Davie White

POST 5

I cant believe how stubborn Smith is being - FFs, look at todays game - a blind man could see:-

1. Hearts had the extra man in midfield and we were over run.
2. We badly lacked width and were very predictable.
3. JCD was doing absolutely hee haw.
4. Adam was sh!te again.
5. Fergie was atrocious - probably the worst performance I have seen him have.
6. Lafferty is not a wide player and should never be played on left or right side again.
7. Whittaker is not a left back and the jury is out on him being a right back too.
8. Novo should have been on at half time to inject some passion and impetus into the side.

Then look at Aaron and Edu - why did we sign them? To warm the bench? Would have done no harm at all giving them a run out today - we certainly wouldn't have done any worse. But no, Wattie cant have that as that would mean giving young players a chance when he could easily play someone out of position.

Seriously Walter - just go now.

POST 6

Should never have come back in the first place.

Should have been sacked immediately following the Kaunas debacle along with his management team.

For the sake of the Rangers Walter hold your hands up and walk away now.

Paul67,

Don't know the in's and outs of the Tamas situation and what happened but i think we missed out on a good player from a footballing point of view. Tamas, Goian and Radu were rated players from Romanaia along with Radoi.

Radu was dubbed the new Chivu. For info he's a left back but is versatile and can slot into centre half when needs must.

WGS

Husti is a winger. Yeah, that is possibly true, but we need some size in the midfield!

A first choice midfield of Naka, Brown, Crosas, McGeady lacks bite!

I think we can loose two midfielders.

The good news is that debt is almost nil, and we will have Bobo off the wage bill next season. Provided we are in the CL next season i hope and sort of expect some serious activity come the summer window!

celtic4me

Charlie Nicholas' attack on Peter Lawell was vociferous and very personal. It suggested that PL was on a power trip and thought the club was his, It even stated that he thinks he's David Murray (heaven forbid).

He is perfectly entitled to respond equally vociferously, personnaly and publicly.

Marty - Maldini is answer Numero Uno, well done.

I know we are in modern times, but the evening times pink, and the early editions of the sunday mail picked up outside the bingo hall are reporting Hearts 2 Rangers 1, can anyone confirm this ?

Paul67,

What's Chariles gripe. Is still bitter that TB and Fergus never found a place for him in some capacity when they took over? Did he not think he was part of the rebels and player revolt that lead to old board demise and felt it was not appreciated?

As i stated the other night, when PL was first appointed i remember reading Charlie Nicholas proclaiming saying how he knew Peter, excellent appointment and he's good Cewltic man. Now the assasination. Why??? Come on spill????

st stivs

Elvis?

SOAL, aye.

Stain Stivs, yes, Celtic will declare an operating profit in the next interim results, I’m less sure what the year-end figures will be but I hope it is profit then too.

No, Celtic were in debt at the year-end and will be further in debt now.

Our debt is in the form of a term loan and overdraft. They year-end figure will be all term loan, the o/d will come into play as the year progresses and disappear when the season ticket money starts to arrive in May.

WGS, cheers. I don’t think there is anything specific which put Nicholas against Celtic. He played at CP for five years in the 90s when we had Wayne Biggins questioning his commitment. He carried the can for Raith Rovers, TB made sure that was his last game, and he has criticised Fergus, Celtic, Celtic Park and many more associated with the club, not to forget the famine chortler incident.

NatKnow, agree.

fan-a-tic, the defence remains a worry and is one area I would spend decent money to strengthen.

If we're opening it up to managers then Ancelotti comes into play?

I had the honour of meeting Gil Scott-Heron a few years ago when I worked in Fopp Records and he was doing an in store signing.

I told him that we had a photo of his da in the flat I lived in at the time wearing the hoops and he told me that his dad was so proud to have worn the green and white hoops for Glasgow Celtic.

I love the music of Gil Scott-Heron.

I hope Gil Scott-Heron knows that I am thinking about him right now and I hope he is doing ok.

ames Connolly was born on 5 June 1868, at 107 Cowgate, Edinburgh. His parents, John and Mary Connolly, had emigrated to Edinburgh from County Monaghan in the 1850s. His father worked as a manure carter, removing dung from the streets at night, and his mother was a domestic servant who suffered from chronic bronchitis and died young from that ailment.

Anti-Irish feeling at the time was so bad that Irish people were forced to live in the slums of the Cowgate and the Grassmarket which became known as 'Little Ireland'. Overcrowding, poverty, disease, drunkenness and unemployment were rife -- the only jobs available were selling second-hand clothes and working as a porter or a carter. Later in life he listed his place of birth as "County Monaghan" in the 1901 and 1911 censuses.[1]

James Connolly went to St Patricks School in the Cowgate, as did his two older brothers, Thomas and John. At ten years of age, James left school and got a job with Edinburgh's Evening News newspaper, where he worked as a 'Devil', cleaning inky rollers and fetching beer and food for the adult workers. His brother Thomas also worked with the same newspaper. In 1882, aged 14, he joined the British Army in which he remained for nearly seven years, all of it in Ireland, where he witnessed first hand the mistreatment of the Irish people at the hands of the British and the landlords. This led to Connolly forming an intense hatred of the British Army.

While serving in Ireland, he met his future wife, a Protestant named Lillie Reynolds. They were engaged in 1888 and the following year Connolly discharged himself from the British Army and went back to Scotland.

Larkin 1907, apoligies for even asking you the question.

Found This Wee Article....Dated June 2008....

Titled (Well Could Have Been)....The Season (Will Be) Over....If We Can't WIN Away From HOME....

RST members suggest Rangers boycott away matches - should they?

According to an article in today’s Sunday Post, The Rangers Supporters Mis-Trust (RST) spokesman David Edgar explained the RST membership have suggested ways for Rangers to show their displeasure at the actions of the SPL hierarchy - and certain member clubs - toward the end of last season. David Edgar said:

“[The] Rangers Supporters Trust received a large number of complaints about the treatment of the club by the SPL and SFA as the club were fighting on four fronts last season.(Did l Miss Something?)001....

[...] Fans are looking for the club to express its disappointment”

The key thing to remember here is that this isn’t what the RST board have proposed, merely what some in the membership have suggested. This is a key difference. Here are the suggestions:

“[...] withdrawing Rangers players from Scotland international duty, questioning Rangers participation in Cup competition if still in Europe,(Ooooops) and refusing away ticket allocations from certain clubs — Dundee Utd in particular.”

The first two are no-go areas. There is no way the Rangers players will refuse to play for their country....(Hmmmm....) and no-way Rangers can stop them without punitive measures being inflicted by the SFA and even UEFA. In any case, the SFA were not at fault. Boycotting the cups would be silly for the same reason. They are run by the SFA and SFL and neither of which can be blamed. More importantly, why gift wrap the cups to Celtic?

The last suggestion is more intriguing and one I would go along with. It is about time Rangers FC showed their power and influence in the Scottish game and stopped hiding under rocks afraid to whisper.

Journalists can say the most outrageous comments about Rangers fans and the club do nothing. You can imply that Rangers are getting help from referees and that the club is somehow involved and the club do nothing. You can rearrange fixtures that by pure coincidence help our greatest rivals and the club do nothing.

Human nature being what it is - if you do not gain others respect, do not have the will to force situations to your own advantage, then it leads to others thinking they can mess you about without consequences. It doesn’t matter how big you are, if you allow people to take advantage of you then someone always will.

In comparison, Peter Lawwell at Celtic knows this only too well. Any journalist or administrator whom he feels gets out of line will be smacked into line or even pushed out of it. It is hardly a secret that most journalists are terrified of him. The SPL are the same. It didn’t matter to them how bad it looked to Rangers as long as Celtic were happy.

The sectarian ‘debate’ over the last few year has left the Rangers board terrified to be the bad guy. They want to be loved. But as the great political philosopher Niccolo Machiavelli said in his book ‘The Prince‘, when asking whether it was better as a Prince to be feared or loved he said:

“The answer is of course, that it would be best to be both loved and feared. But since the two rarely come together, anyone compelled to choose will find greater security in being feared than in being loved.”

No-one fears Sir David Murray, but they sure fear Peter Lawwell. In Sunday school the latter would be frowned upon, but in real life he is lauded for it. And so he should be.

It is with this in mind that Rangers once again need to show that there are consequences for going against us. To show teams like Dundee Utd that their actions produce a dramatic drop in revenue through an away boycott. (How about Getting a Away Win First)....Soon enough they and the rest will get the message.

It’s time for Rangers to wake up and fight back.

What other response do you expect from Celtic fans? They are ALL the same, i agree with the writer, great article, and i have asked the fans to boycott the away games already, i think the ONLY way to get back at the clubs who went AGAINST us is to hit where it would hurt them the most, (this is not about supporting the team on the day), its about CUTTING the income they get when Rangers come calling, never mind the 11th man crap, we as Rangers shouldnt NEED an 11th man.

Your point on Peter Lawwell is accurate, he RUNS the Scottish Media with so many personal friends working as high profile(but not very good) journalists.Sir David Murray has been SO quiet for so long, i think he is scared to speak up in support of HIS Rangers fans in case he gets SLAUGHTERED for it in the press, as happens.

Celtic are the only club in the SPL not to NEED our income from the gates, we DONT need to boycott they games BUT they were the club telling Craig Levein,Mark McGhee, Eddie Thompson, and the Hibees NOT to Help Rangers. It felt through the whole saga as if i knew Celtic were running the show and NOT 1 journalist or pundit said, “this is happening because Celtic want Rangers to win NOTHING”.It was so obvious.

A boycott of away games for one round of fixtures would be superb, particularly if it included Dundee United.

The down side to this is that our support has some people more concerned with their unbroken attendance of games or their chance to get a Killie Pie....(Eh Whit....) rather than looking at the big picture and siding with the many.

Well done Everyone, we are looking strong, there will be tests along the way but with a little Faith, Hope & love we shall be victorious.

If your a little tired draw strength from The Lovely Sinead.

G'day,

My name is Roz, I am Kanos sister in Australia. Just wanted to let you all know, that I have been reading all the kind messages that have been left on the site.
Want to send a big THANK YOU to all of you who organised everything yesterday at CELTIC PARK, and for looking after our DAD!!! I didn't get to see the game yesterday, but I had a look on berniek31 bebo site and had a look at the pictures, THANK YOU.
I know Kano will be well pleased with all you have done, he would love to have been there!!!!!!
Just to let you all know that Martins (Kanos) family in Australia and Scotland appreciate all you have done, and can't thank you enough for keeping the SMILE on his face!!!!
If theres any chance I could get the photos e-mailed to me I will take the laptop into Martin and let him see the pics.
THANKS AGAIN from all of Kanos Family xxx
P.S. GOOD RESULT!!!!!!

jinkysboy , Kingoh and all CQN'ers who sent a message of hope to Kano all the way across the World. Well done bhoys , you are a special bunch of human beings , glad to know ye. Get well Martin , think about that Guinness to celebrate 4inarow. God bless.

Was the PL quote in the Post all his or is the last sentence a bit of creative reporting wind up

“Charlie appears to be a serial Celtic critic but he doesn’t know how the club is run.

“He is obviously bitter and paranoid.”

Good to hear so much praise for Andreas Hinkel. Kojo you are still keeping the faith with Big Mick. I like that too . Had a conversation last night with a mate from the North Stand who expressed the exact opposite view. He sees more from the North Stand than I do on the pc but I can't help thinking that he is being hard on the lad. Anyone else other than Kojo think big Mick is improving?

Roz, i hope Kano gets better soon.

Like some people on here, i only know of your brother through his posts but it's easy to see from all the CQN'ers that do know him that he is a popular Bhoy.

With all the prayers being said for him, i hope this is keeping your family strong. Keep the faith.

Hail Hail & God bless.

Roz I am sure that after Martin see's the photo's he will see that he really was there. Tell him to keep smiling from me.

Magnifent seven ahead on the field , millions ahead in the accounts and a clear title in the bag for the Chief. Not a word from the sunbed kid.

Gordon Strachan: I have no intention of leaving Celtic....

GORDON STRACHAN has hit back at the snipers who claim he doesn't have the stomach to manage Celtic and told them he has no intention of leaving the club.

The Hoops boss has taken heavy flak in the wake of his side's midweek defeat by Aalborg with some critics claiming he will throw in the towel after crashing out of Europe.

Strachan has been forced to deal with rumours about his Parkhead future since winning a first SPL title in 2006.

The pressure of living in the Old Firm goldfish bowl was said to be toomuch for him-and many thought it was the perfect time to go when he led Celtic to three-in-a-row last May.

But Strachan has never been a quitter and insists he has been dealing with pressure ever since he started out as a kid at Dundee.

So he's in no mood to walk out - especially when people think that's exactly what he will do. Sensible? Stubborn? Defiant? Call it what you like.

Strachan said: "People said after year one I'd leave. After year two. They'll say it after year four too. The people making these comments don't know me. This is a fantastic club and I enjoy working with the players and other coaches.

"I may be more relaxed now than I've ever been in this job. Winning three championships helps.

"Seriously, you can say to yourself: 'That's not so bad'.

"I'm also more realistic about the job and I'm content, I suppose. I met Dick Advocaat recently and he asked why I didn't leave after three-in-a-row.

I told him I stayed because I liked it.

"Maybe other people would have left - but they're not me. Why would I leave? What would I do?

"When you lose you don't go on a massive downer because you know at Celtic you're liable to win a few games.

"I've been through going out of Europe to Artmedia Bratislava and coming from behind to win the title.

"Yet people say I don't have the stomach for it. Not up for the fight of being manager of Celtic."

That was a reference to comments made by former Celtic star Charlie Nicholas who played in the same Scotland side as Strachan.

Nicholas is surprised the Hoops boss is still in charge and doesn't expect him to have the guts to remain gaffer for much longer.

But Strachan said: "Charlie has never been to see me at this club. He rarely sees any of our home games.

"So for somebody who doesn't know me to say I don't have the stomach for this job? I find that very interesting.

"I've had to battle all the way through my career. When I was 17 at Dundee I could have walked away because I was getting nowhere.

"I was doing the wrong things, hanging around the wrong people.

"I thought I was rotten - that's why it's funny when people say I've maybe had enough at Celtic.

"Try sitting in a bedsit when you've absolutely no money and you're jamming matches into the meter to keep the heating going.

"I was a kid, sitting freezing with no money and no food. That's part of building your character.

"When I got to Aberdeen I was rotten for my first year there. I bounced back.

"When I was at Manchester United I was told 'You're not very good any more'. But I went to Leeds and we won the championship. So yeah, I think I've got the stomach.

"But that's why I don't read the papers - because I AM sensitive.

"When I came to Celtic the idea was to cut the age of the squad, the wage bill and the deficit at the bank.

"We also wanted to win titles at the same time - so we've done fine."

Strachan was in an expansive mood when we met 48 hours after the painful 2-1 defeat in Aalborg.

There has been the expected hysterical reaction but Strachan took a step back before offering his explanation. He said: "There are 13 teams already through to the last 16.

Juventus, Liverpool, InterMilan etc, teams you would expect.

"Then there's the second group of sides such as Werder Bremen and Shakhtar Donetsk and Zenit. All pay a lot of money for their players and hope to break into that mould.

"We're in the group after that.

Teams who need breaks because we don't have the money to compete.

"Two years ago we got through because we scored a one-in-a-million goal from Shunsuke Nakamura against Manchester United and Artur Boruc saved a penalty.

Breaks "If either of those things don't happen we don't go through.

"That same year we played FC Copenhagen and won 1-0 with a penalty. I gave us a six out of 10 that night. In the draw with Aalborg I gave us seven out of 10 because we created more chances but missed a penalty.

"Wealso had a good goal disallowed for offside that should have stood.

Those are the breaks either way.

"Last year we scored in the last minute in home games against Milan and Donetsk. And Milan's keeper fumbled the ball. Defining moments.

"This year we didn't get too many breaks. I hear Rangers should be beating Kaunas and we should be beating Aalborg. By the same token we shouldn't be beating Milan and Rangers shouldn't be winning in Lyon.

"Last season Walter Smith and myself agreed that - although it was great to get to the UEFA Cup Final and the Champions League last 16 - we still had a lot to do technically.

"What got us through was sheer determination, a bit of quality and some breaks.

"It's like Scotland beating France in Paris.

It was like the Alamo but something incredibly special won the game for us.

"That's what it takes to win at the top."

BT

Roz,

I don't know your brother, but I have been reading his contributions to this site for years - comes across as a really passionate and colourful celtic man.

He won't know either me as i rarely post, but please pass on my best wishes to him.

Lubo.

Just read Gaudd's article on E-Tims. As he said I was try to "think of a happy place" as I was reading yet another of his rants. You can't respond directly on E-Tims so just have to get it out here as its bugging me . The whole article basically says that the Celtic board should be hung drawn and quartered for incompetency , particularily for not speculating to accumulate. Guadd must have a very narrow viewing platform. Unfortunately my bread and butter football is New Zealand Sky and the English Premiership. Some of the A League games are better. Watching paint dry is often more exciting. And yet these are teams , without exception , that speculate to avoid the drop , the drop of forty million squid. Someone on here will know what Roy Kean has spent at the stadium of light. It won't be less than forty Million pounds. Not long ago on this site many of the posters calling for WGS head on a platter were touting Roy for the job. I can't say yet whether Keano will make the grade as a manager but WGS already has. Big time. Back to the point. Spending the amount of money Sunderland , or Wigan , or even Villa spent this year does not mean that you will accumulate. WGS has built a squad of talented players who are strong in the dressing room and have the fight in them. If the coach can get the technical skills rolling we will be a force in Europe eventually. I don't get to see the games at paradise just on a wee screen so I know my view from the stands isn't as good as some. I read too many of our own saying that we have second rate players in a second rate league and that why we are winning. Talking to my friend on the phone the other night I can't help thinking that we see what we want to see. I am just glad that PL and WGS and not Gaudd are in charge of Celtic football team. Standing up for the Champions.

I think we have the solution to our passing and possession problems at Parkhead already: Crosas and Donati. They both have the ability to pass the ball forward. I am sure we have played our best football when one of them has been in the team. Big Mick doesn't lump the ball up the park so often for a start.

We need the likes of Robson and/or Hartley for the SPL. But along with Brown, we have the makings of an excellent midfield. Shaun Maloney, Naka and Aiden McGeady can provide the individual bit of class.

Our main problems are our defence. Enough has been said about that. Let us enjoy our position. I feel it can only get better with the squad we have.

WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED.

001bhoy,

Have just seen that article in the NoTW. Disgraceful, utterly disgraceful that on a day we stretch our lead at the top to 7; move into poll position for 4 in a row and 7 out of 9; the lead is "Strachan under Pressure"

How little editorial judgement must you have to make that your back page splash?

Meanwhile Walter Noname sinks, under no pressure from his media chums, further into mediocrity.

Incidentally, the Sunday Mason talks about Celtic's "desperate struggle for form".

You really couldn't make this crud up.

Roz pass on my best wishes to your brother. my thoughts and prayers are with him.

Well done to Jinky and the rest involved for the effort they have put into the picture, strips cards etc.

I see people talking about pictures from yesterday. Is there a link.

The ref helped ruin a poor game yesterday he was very bad and petty. I agree with a few from last night that Andreas was MoTM.

I was actually more relieved today to find out that my tip was not the only team to get beat in the CQN accumulator....

Morning all

Officially married now after yesterday's wedding festivities. Nice Wedding present from Ibrox which I felt the need to incorporate in my speech.....

Off on honeymoon in 2 hours, quick CQN fix before I go.

Aqua Al

Aqua Al congrats to you and your good lady. Happiness , health and fun with you both in your lives together. Cheers

Roz

I mailed the phoyos to Ramie and Kingoh last night but if you drop me an e mail to bkilkie@yahoo.co.uk I will maile them to you.

And its been an honour to do these small things for a true Celt like Martin. I hope some day soon I can buy him a Guiness and toast his good health as well as the club and site that brought us all together.

God bless Kano

GL2

Go onto bebo.com and type berniek31 into the search bar and the photos are in the Kano file

Aqua Al,

Auguri!

Aqua Al

Congrats mate - now Celtic are your No2 priority (as Mts jinks keeps reminding me)..............

Enjoy the honeymoon and hopefully while your in warmer climes the temperature in Govan continues to drop below 7.

BTW Im heading auld Mrs Jinks house in Govan today - will not be able to resist putting down the window and singing whil I drive past Mordor. Even tempted to get a photo with me holding a card say "Its freezing here - 7 below Celtic"

peter Lawells article

Well said regards Big Time Charlie (He was the first Celt I ever heard say "Do you know who I am to a doorman and he was just 21 at the time)

Bitter and paranoid indeed.

Big Time is deluded and thinks he is the voice of the people - while he sits with all the laughing gnomes on SSN.

Jinksybhoy

Good morning to you, Ive revieved some good photos, will email them later on.

Waiting to hear from Ramie on the other thing, and hopefully some good news.

Hail Hail

EN

Glad to hear that as my photos of the screen didnt come out very good - rank amateur me.

I will post them onto my bebo when you send them

Yesterday became all about the three points. Perhaps the Bhoys were lucky with the goal, it was a close decision but it was a pretty one sided match.
The seven point lead is useful because the next six matches until everyone has played each other twice will be tough with four away matches.
It would be nice to get a couple of the injured players back and to see the strikers returning to good form.
Meantime :-).

Oldtim

I got a good Celtic card in the shop after the match - do you want me to do the monikers and add it to the shirts when I send them or do you want to meet up and put all the tributes in the one package to OZ.

BTW you really are a great man and I take my Green Bay Packers hat off to you

Signings

I posted after the Accies game that Offiong looked like a good prospect as a physical striker who can lead the line well. He has scored a couple since that day and I will be looking out for him next weekend against TFOD where he will be lone striker.

Jinkysboy :- You said "Even tempted to get a photo with me holding a card say "Its freezing here - 7 below Celtic" After having a lot of respect for your posts I know see you are just a typical bombastic triumphilist Celtic fan.
Only kidding I have to admit it did make me laugh. As the season turns I'm sure things will hot up and hopefully it will be your turn to feel the heat.

That game was painful to watch yesterday, one of the worst I've ever attended if I'm honest but they're the victories that will take us to 4IAR...

Edward

After the week we had we all need cheering up.

That joke was posted on here last night around 7pm and within 2 hrs even Mrs Jinks had been sent it from her pals who are not even interested in fitba. Technology eh!

I will feel the heat rise in the new year - we are off to Goa for 3 weeks in Paradise in the 90 degree heat on Jan 24 mate. I get back on the eve of the game at CP so hoping to be tanned and watching your team get one that day too.

Did you watch the Gers yesterday and what were / are your thoughts now?

Haven't been on for a wee while, as I've recently started up my own business.

Just wanted to mark the news of the death of Gil Heron.

His year at Celtic Park was well before my time on the planet. But through having had these stories relayed to me, as the first black Celtic player (and the father of Gil-Scott) he has become part of my Celtic iconography, and I was saddened to hear he's no longer with us.

R.I.P. Black Arrow

EdwardUrsus

Whats your take on Mr Smith 'to move upstairs' campaign that appears to be mounting in some quarters?

Jinkysboy
Well done for everything you have done for KANO ( god bless you ) it 's been a pleasure to meet with all of the cqners and i lookforwards to many more meetings with all of you. Celtic truly is a massive family with so many people wanting to help each other.
Hail Hail and onwards to 4 in a row.
i didnt mention all of the people i met in BB's today but as i said it was special to be in the company of all of yous from young to old.
thats why we love you we love you we love you

jinkysbhoy.

I would just take the names from the shirt and add them to the card,if the thoughts there,it doesn't really matter if you personally signed the card,I'll post the card I have and put Kit's name on it.

You mentioned about being cold Yesterday,I've never been so cold at a football match,And I had to stand in London Road waiting for a bus for over an hour to take me into the City Centre,Even the young guys standing beside me were moaning about the cold, every time a car passed another blast of icy air hit you,to freeze your nether regions a bit more.

Jinkyboy :- All I can say about yesterdays game at Tynecastle was that the least worst team win.

EstadioNacional :- If things were going well it would be a good move with continuity in the dressing room but right now would be the wrong time. For Mr Smith to go now would would mean Mr McCoist taking on the job too soon, I feel he needs either another couple of seasons as an assistant or a spell in charge of a smaller club to see how he does.

Oldtim67

I will just get all the names onto the card - its git the hoops on the front with the club crest and opens out into a big picture of the stadium.

You should come to the club after match and I will give you a run home and you can wont have to suffer the cold waiting around. Bear that in mind for the Jam Tarts match.

Jamiebaby

Its a team effort and you played a big part too. Im just proud to be one of the bhoys.

Off to my mammys now - looking forward to the drive past Mordor for a change. Might have to dodge some protesters outside the front door !!!!!!!

Subject: Transfer Window

All,

I am sure that you do not need to be reminded that the Transfer Window is creeping ever closer. As such it is of vital importance that each and every one of you is fully aware of your responsibilities at this very important time.

Consequently I would like to take this opportunity to draw your immediate attention to the 'Daily Record - Transfer Window Style Guide'.

This is a document you should all be very familiar with. However, due to recent revisions it is crucial that you re-familiarise yourself with the guide as a matter of urgency.

As you know the style guide sets out clear and definite instructions on the coverage of all stories regarding the Transfer Window and related issues.

Under no circumstances should these be strayed from.

Any queries or questions regarding the content of the guide should not be addressed directly to Sir David or Mr Bain but rather raised in the first instance with myself. After that all further communication will be conducted via your union/legal representative.

Transfer Window - Style Guide

(1)Rangers FC do not 'buy' or 'sign' players. They 'swoop' for players. The extraordinary nature of these swoops must be emphasised at all times by preceding the word 'swoop' with at least one of the following choices - 'sensational' 'stunning' 'exciting' 'audacious' or 'ambitious'.

(2)Celtic FC do not 'buy' or 'sign' players. They 'finally complete' deals.

The hugely dull nature of this event should be emphasised at all times by using at least one of the following terms - 'protracted' 'long-running' and 'drawn out affair'.

(3)Any overseas transfer target of Rangers FC is, without fail, also being pursued "...by a host of Europe's top clubs".

(4)Rangers FC must then be referred to as "battling it out for the signature..." of this 'hot property' and 'wanted man'.

(5)The exact identity of these elite club's will be selected on a random basis but must contain at least one of the current top 4 sides in Italy, Germany and Spain. One of these may be substituted by Lyon but no other French club.

(6)If the said player signs for Rangers FC then the club have "pulled off a sensational coup". To avoid unnecessary confusion under no circumstances should the player be asked why he turned down these previously reported top clubs. Instead the player will "modestly refuse to comment on the speculation".

(7)Any overseas player purchased by Rangers FC under the age of 21 years is a 'wonder kid'.

(8) Any overseas player purchased by Celtic FC under the age of 21 years is an 'unknown youngster'.

(9)In recognition of the club's international stature it is appropriate that the transfer fees received and paid by Rangers FC should initially be quoted in Euros. After this initial use the term of currency quoted should be dropped and thereafter, whenever possible, the figure referred to only by approximate amount.

(10)Should Rangers FC purchase a Scottish player from a domestic rival then this story must be accompanied by a double page spread praising the club's willingness to invest in home-grown talent and how this is of the benefit to the national side and indeed the country as a whole.*

(11)Should Celtic FC purchase a Scottish player from a domestic rival then this story must be accompanied by a double page spread condemning the club's willingness to rape rivals of home-grown talent and how this is to the detriment of the national side and indeed the country as a whole.*

*Billy Brown and Jim Jeffries are again willing to contribute. However, please note due to current financial constraints within the company the expenses department has placed a limit of four fish suppers per contributor

(12)Any player linked with Rangers FC who has not made a strongly worded denial of the said move should be referred to issuing "...a come and get me plea."

(13)Clubs unwilling to lower their asking price to meet the perfectly acceptable bid placed by Rangers FC must be strongly condemned. All stories of this nature must include the words/terms "staggering asking price"

"inflated fee" "outrageous demands" and "holding to ransom". The player involved in this deal must be referred to as "the want away star' and it is imperative that any story fully informs the reader how the immoral stance of the selling club could "jeopardise a dream move to Ibrox" for a player "whose heart is set on a switch to Glasgow".

(14)Clubs unwilling to up their bid to meet the perfectly reasonable fee placed on a player by Rangers FC must be strongly condemned. All stories of this nature must include the words/terms "insulting" "laughably derisory bid" "on the cheap" "deliberate attempt to unsettle" and "outrageously low offer".

(15)The signing of an overseas player by Rangers FC must be accompanied by a two page spread stating how they will become as good as their nation's most famous footballer. For example: Rangers' Romanian new boy was last night tipped to be the man who could finally fill the boots of Gheorghe Hagi. Mark Hately is willing to contribute to this article.

(16)The signing of an overseas player by Celtic FC must be accompanied by a two page spread questioning whether they are good enough for the SPL.

Gordon Smith is willing to contribute to this article.

(17)If Rangers FC sign a player who has - at any point of their career - been watched by any member of the Celtic Park staff (including Superstore employees, programme sellers and outsourced catering workers) then they will have "...sensationally snatched" the said player "..from under the nose of the Parkhead club".

(18) If Celtic FC sign a player who we previously linked with Rangers FC then it will be because "After initial tentative interest Rangers decided to pull out of the chase" thus "...leaving the road clear for Celtic". The player in question "..represented poor value for money.." and was "...no better than the players already available to the Rangers boss."

(19)The fact that Sir David Murray owns a private jet and a vineyard in the south of France are integral elements of any Rangers transfer story and failure to recognise this will see copy spiked.

(20)Finally, as in previous years our colleague at the Sunday Mail will again be organising 'Operation Moonbeams' which is as usual planned for the first weekend in February. Our duty is to ensure quality follow-up coverage. While details of the current operation are being finalised you are advised to familiarise yourself with Glasgow City Council's Draft Regeneration Project for Govan and NASA's proposed manned mission to Mars.

Edward

Thats a double ration of good news for us that not only did your team not perform but the victors (who we play in 2 weeks) are no great shakes either.

Anyway - its the sabbath day and mammy and God are waiting on their weekly visit and I have pledged to get my ass back to the gym today too.

Have a goodun all CQNers

I nevek knew Charlie Nick said GS never had the stomach to carry on and it would probably be his last season. Just read GS interview with Mark Guidi, looks like Charlie Nic making a few enemies with his lies and crap he spouts.

I've just signed up to setanta in Oz and my first live game was the mighty rangers. Might mouse would have done better. They were absolute pants and I am now happy to look forward to those balloooons playing us on the 27th.

HailHail

ps - paul67 my hero

I can't let the sad news of the passing of Gillie Heron go by without comment. I remember the great man with affection. His goal against Morton was a screamer from 30 yards, which was in the back of the net before one of Scotland's greatest goalkeepers (Jimmy Cowan) knew anything about it.
One of the 3 Glasgow evening papers of the time ( TIMES, NEWS, CITIZEN ) carried a banner headline...'A JAMAICAN JIMMY QUINN.'

May he rest in peace.

Hopefully yesterday's win will have exorcised Tuesday night for the players.

I think we genuinely got unlucky with this year's ECL. Missed penalties, disallowed goals, offside goals, deflected goals, OGs. We've been unlucky before and we've also been lucky in the past. If the players are focused, it may only be another couple of months before we know we're back in it again.

Love the stuff some of our agents are picking up from FF. Hang on in there guys! I expect more bombardment as the weekend goes on! During the dark days of the 90s I never thought I'd see the day when Rangers returned to having players of the calibre of the Greig era.

Hope they don't go for Craig Levein when Wattie, er, goes upstairs. I like Craig Levein and he's good. I don't actually mind McCoist, but I think his appointment would be made out of sentiment rather than sense.

Ed
Here's hoping McCoist gets his chance soon, like me you probably feel too soon.

I think if Smith decides to go someone like Billy Davies would arrive to help McCoist.

In today's press good to see Nicholas take one from Lawwell.
Some of what he has said in the past is true and what many of us feel but sometimes he goes too far and seems to enjoy it.

The personal stuff from Nicholas is odd given his background. Feeling bitter and left out Charlie?
That's what happens when you bite the hand that fed you.

I'm not sure if anyone posted about this but I think most of us would spare a thought for Steven davis this week. He may play for a club that we have no time for, but 23 is a very young age for anyone to lose their mother.

jinkysbhoy.Very kind offer re Hearts game, but that saint in disguise Pablophangue has arranged to pick me up and drop me off,we've got a wee bit of business to do before the game.More later.

Giles Heron....

Giles Heron became the first Afro-Caribbean player to play first team football for Celtic.

Heron scored on his debut, a 2-1 win against Morton during the 1951-52 season and was quickly bestowed the nicknames "Black Flash" and "Black Arrow".

Born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1922, Heron played as centre forward for the Jamaican national team as well as playing for the American club side Detroit Corinthians. On a North American tour he was spotted by a Celtic scout and later signed for the Glasgow club in 1951.

At a time when Scottish football was notable for its physical nature, Heron soon struggled - as one local newspaper put it: "lacking resource when challenged."

The writer Phil Vasili notes that Heron was criticised in Glasgow for "being unable to transfer his pugilistic tenacity" (Heron had previously been both an athlete and a boxer). He was released barely a year later and signed for Third Lanark.

Heron also played for Kidderminster Harriers before returning to play for his original club, the Detroit Corinthians, where his son, the acclaimed jazz musician and poet Gil Scott Heron, was born in 1949.

Shortly before Giles Heron's son visited Scotland to promote his new book "The Last Holiday," a local journalist asked about his father's experiences of playing football in Glasgow.

Despite Heron's relatively brief spell at Celtic, it is apparent that Giles Heron Sr still retains fond memories of his time in Scotland. "My father still keeps up with what Celtic are doing. You Scottish folk always mention that my Dad played for Celtic," said Scott-Heron, "it's a blessing from the spirits! Like that's two things that Scottish folks love the most; music and football and they got one representative from each of those from my family!"

It has become a tradition of studious Gil Scott-Heron fans to show up at his Glasgow shows in the green and white hooped shirt of Celtic. "There you go again," said Gil Scott-Heron jokingly, "once again overshadowed by a parent!"

However, before the directors of Glasgow Celtic can think about inviting him to attend a match at his father's former club, Heron declared, "Personally I support Rangers and I'm going to wear my Celtic scarf and Rangers hat when I come over!"

Mike Lee, November 2001

Gil Heron, arrived in Glasgow from the US to play for Celtic in the early 1950s. He cut quite a figure dressed in a Zoot suit, snap-brimmed Trilby and, in the words of the immortal Charlie Tully , 'a pair of yalla shoes'.''

most interesting thing for me about yesterdays game
was the performance of the referee
He was a really fit wee chappie and kept up with play
but!!!!!!!!!! and there is always a but
I do believe I saw a mccurry phoenix rising from the ashes
Could be wrong though
But I did notice a lot of insignificant free kicks awarded
against Celtic in very significant places when ict were
showing promise in the second half

You CAN respond directly to e-tims through their Contact Us facility. I even received a quite witty reply from an unnamed source.

We should note that e-tims are the same as any other blog in cyber space in that it contains the happy celts and the permanently dissatisfied. Gaudd strikes me as being like one of John Logie Baird's pals being called upon to celebrate his new invention who replies, "Aye, it's all very good but there's **** all to watch, is there?"

I see Rangers may have got ahead of us in securing a change of leagues but they're not performing too well in the Swiss league if yesterday's result is anything to go by:-

It's amazing the the one player the most managers deem not good enough is the one player the keeps rangers from being really pants.

The Start of an era part 1....

This stroll down Amnesia lane looks back at the 1965-66 season. takes up the story from the club's 'seven lean years' to the appointment of Big Jock.

The Celts were failing miserably to mount any sort of challenge in the league season after season, cup success was proving elusive, good players were being allowed to leave and the fans were so frustrated that they were demonstrating outside the stand demanding the head of Kelly on a spike.

No, it wasn't the Nineties, it was during the period which followed the 7:1 demolition of the Huns in the 1957 league cup final. Little did supporters realise that once they'd sobered up from the party which followed in the wake of that game that they'd have to wait nearly eight years before they'd have another excuse for a Hoolie.

The late Fifties and early Sixties were indeed a time of weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth for the Timmites. The 1957 team broke up following the untimely departure of Bobby and Evans and a succession of injuries to key players such as Fernie, Fallon and McPhail. Instead of replacing these established players with seasoned professionals - who might have cost money - the board of the time, under the benevolent tyranny of Bob Kelly, embarked on a strategy that was to become the infamous 'youth policy'.

Sadly, the youngsters who were regularly pitchforked into struggling Celtic sides of the time were doubly handicapped by having few players of proven experience upon whom to rely for advice and by a chairman whose Corinthian ideals may have been worthy enough but who was rapidly finding that they were becoming increasingly anachronistic within the context of an ever-changing game. Such was Kelly's neglect of such mundane tasks as running the club efficiently or with organisation that 'Bob Kelly and the Easybeats' was the cruel epithet attached to the hapless colts of the early Swinging Sixties.

Not that Celtic was a club entirely devoid of talent in those days. Players such as Billy McNeill, Dunky McKay, Bobby Murdoch, Pat Crerand and jimmy Johnstone were all outstanding talents; but all too often the rest of the side would be comprised of raw youth, players in the twilight of their careers or obscure buys who arrived with dodgy reputations and departed back into obscurity soon afterward's - often in the dead of night with blankets over their heads.

The misery for the fans was compounded, as is so often the case when Celtic are in the doldrums, by the fact that the Huns were rampant.

The only blip in what was otherwise a relentless downward spiral was an extraordinary run in the Cup Winners' Cup of 1963-64 which saw Celtic progress to the semi-final stage. In the first leg, played at Parkhead, the Hoops romped into a 3:0 lead against MTK Budapest. They looked odds-on to reach the final.

Alas, it was all too much for them. Cool heads and a steady defence were all that were needed in the away leg in the Hungarian capital; neither showed up on the night and the Celts slumped to a dismal 0:4 defeat.

At the start of the 1964-65 season Bob Kelly's youth policy came to fruition when the club tried to sign Alfredo di Stefano from Real Madrid, by then a sprightly 38 year-old. The element of low farce which went along with this gallant bid was somehow in keeping with the general atmosphere surrounding the Celtic board at the time.

Back in the real (as opposed to the Real) world, by January 1965 it was business as usual for the long-suffering fans. The League Cup final had been lost to Rangers in a 2:1 defeat the previous October in one of the great encounters between the two clubs and Celtic had been similarly dispatched from the Fairs Cup by Barcelona.

In the league Celtic's form had been erratic. Rangers had been gubbed 3:1 early in the season but defeats at the hands of Hearts, St.Johnstone, kilmarnock, Dundee and Dunfermline saw the team languishing in fifth place in the table.

The Scottish Cup was all that was left to play for and frustration was forcing many of the club's best players to consider continuing their careers away from Parkhead.

Then it happened.... Although he wasn't to take up the managerial reins until March 10th, the board announced that Jock Stein was about to take over at Celtic Park. The effect of that announcement was almost instantaneous. Campbell and Woods described it thus in The Glossary and the dream: "The slide was halted on January 30th with a dazzling display on an icy Celtic Park when the players visibly uplifted (as if sensing a wind of change) routed Aberdeen by 8:0. Less than 24 hours later the situation, with its gloom and fears, was to experience a transformation which began with the bustle of a press conference and was completed a few weeks later, by Bob Kelly's firm handshake and the words, 'It's all yours now'"

Jock Stein had been around a bit since leaving the job of reserve team coach at Parkhead, giving the town of Dunfermline the time of its life by steering the Pars to safety in the first division, winning the Scottish Cup by defeating Celtic then embarking on a series of European adventures which scared the pants off some very big names indeed. he then went to Easter Road for a stint as manager there, but now he was coming home in a reshuffle which saw Jimmy McGrory take over as PR Officer and Sean Fallon appointed Assistant Manager.

The fans weren't aware of it yet, but the best ever ride in the theme park was about to start rolling.

Just saw this on Newsnow and the headline was a shock, then read the story and it completely contradicts the headline. Its all ifs and buts about selling a player first then bidding for Aiden, not the done deal the headline claims.

It shouldn't annoy me, but dear me. 7 points clear, healthy financial position, decent squad - which we are now on record to be looking to add to. Europe was a disappointment, of course it was, but 6 pages nearly a week later? Come on.

I have been a Celtic supporter for close on sixty years....I have seen it all...the good and the bad times.

Like every other Celtic fan I was dissapointed after Tuesday...but we have to move on...7 points clear and I still believe that any team in the SPL can take points of this FOD squad.

Having said all that, this internet is a great thing...and without CQN...and without YOU... so many of the Celtic ‘Family’ could not have come together.
I have only been posting on here for a few months but in that short time I have seen quite a few successful charity events arranged and to top everything we had this tremendous effort yesterday for one of our own – Kano – absolutely superb from all involved!!!
More over, how nice it is to see and welcome Kano’s dad and sister now posting and keeping us updated on his health.

I applaud Jinkysboy and all the others – outstanding Celtic men the lot of you – and I take my hat off to you Paul – you have a magic site, a site that can only get better over the next few years...just like Celtic.

The Start of an era part 2....

In part 2 We take a stroll down Amnesia Lane with a look back at the 1965-66 season…. The story Continues from Big Jock's appointment.

Big Jock was to take up his post in an official capacity on March 10th 1965. It had been over a month since the announcement of his imminent takeover from Jimmy McGrory but he had to wait for Hibs to appoint Bill Shankley as his successor before leaving for Parkhead. His parting shot as he left Easter Road was to ensure that the Huns would be taking no further part in that season's Scottish Cup as his team administered a gubbing to the Ibrox side, something he was to make quite a habit of on the coming years.

Almost immediately following his takeover at Celtic Park the papers tried to fuel controversy over the fact that Stein was Celtic's first non-Catholic manager. Perhaps they had convinced themselves that Celtic supporters would rush round to the main stand entrance burning season tickets and effigies of Bob Kelly.
It wasn't to be. The appointment of Stein was greeted with widespread approval. The only thing that was heating up rapidly was Scot Symon's manager's chair at Ibrox.

Stein's first match in charge of Celtic was at Broomfield against Airdrie. His first selection was: Fallon, Young, Gemmell; Clark, McNeill, Brogan; Chalmers, Murdoch, Hughes, Lennox, Auld.

John Hughes and Bertie Auld (who netted five - two from the spot) were the scorers in a 6:0 romp. Other than a 4:0 thrashing of his old side Hibs and a single goal victory courtesy of an o.g. against Third Lanark it was to be a rare opportunity to celebrate two league points as Stein tried out most of the players in the first team pool before the end of the season. Some of these line-ups were less than successful, as maulings at Falkirk (2:6) and Dunfermline (1:5) would tend to suggest, but the new manager wanted everyone to get the opportunity to show what they could do - even if it was Hugh Maxwell.

Meanwhile, in the Scottish Cup the Celts had progressed to the semi-final of that season's competition prior to the arrival of Stein, thanks to victories over St. Mirren (3:0), Queens Park (1:0) and Kilmarnock (3:2). Motherwell were the opponents and at Hampden on March 27th the Fir Park side played to an extremely defensive plan, relying almost entirely on their lone striker to upset the Celtic defence. This he did to such effect that he almost caused our season to come to a shuddering halt. Motherwell twice took the lead but both times were pegged back, the goals coming from Lennox and Auld. The match finished 2:2 and a a replay was necessary.

In the second game Celtic tore Motherwell apart in a display full of aggression, power and speed, eventually running out comfortable winners by 3:0.

We hadn't seen the last of the Motherwell striker, however. Joe Mcbride was to become Jock's first signing the following July.
Celtic's opposition in the 1965 Scottish Cup Final was to be provided by one of Stein's former charges, Dunfermline. The Pars had finished third in the championship, some 12 points and five places above Celtic. They could field what was widely regarded as the best side in their history and had every right to believe that the cup would be heading back to Fife for the second time in five years.

The Celtic fans weren't aware of it yet, but the best ever ride in the theme park was about to start rolling….

It can’t be easy digging up Celtic these days.

tim in the chamber, thank you for your kind words. The Celtic Quick News community continue to amaze me; the efforts of Jinkysbhoy, Vhman, Jamiebhoy and many others for our recovering friend tells you all you need to know about Celtic fans.

hows about "Tummel-The-Cranichenko!"

It's a slow day on the blog after a good day (performance not great but a 6 point swing obtained).

One thing puzzles me about the absence of Monday morning quarterbacks after a winning game. Surely, if you're being truthful, you should be posting on here that, if WGS had followed your advice yesterday and replaced A & B with X and Y, we would have drew or lost instead of winning narrowly.

Or is it just like clairvoyants, you only post when you get it right (to be accurate, when you feel you would have got it right) and keep shtum when you might have messed it up.

Surely somebody must have been castigating WGS for not replacing Shaun before the half hour mark, as early subs are now a must for WGS's critics. Somebody must have said that Hinkel and Hartley had no place in the line up.

Come on, own up. We can't be doing without the words of wisdom until our next draw or defeat.

Yesterday was garbage football but we won. Not much to say apart from naka, caldwell and perhaps hinkle the rest were woeful so not much you can comment on.

You are a very sad man.

Not everyone who has an opinion is a hun.

With Murray due to release his accounts soon it will be interesting to see how the banks and we as a club react.

I don't advocate spending fortunes but money well spent on problem areas will do.
The reducing debt we have will be as much a cause of misery at Ibrox as their increasing debt is fun to us.

We have had chances over the past few years to nail the lid shut for a while on their aspirations, it would be ironic if a recession was to do the job instead.
Rangers are in a stick or twist position squad wise.

With luck we will still be clear, if we are well clear they may well sell what they can and make noises about summer investment and bluster.
If it's a bit closer the pressure is on to sell what they can and re-invest, problem being there is no Hutton or Cuellar.

Paul any idea on what we can expect in January? I personally expect the main business being loans or players leaving.

You defend your corner well and, though you criticise, you're not as scathing about our manager as some.

However,as for your reason re Xmas shopping, I don't think that explains away my point. It was Xmas shopping time 5 days ago as much as now, and people don't Xmas shop at night.

It seems to me that the critics, well, those of them who only appear after draws and defeats (so that excludes you and DD), are happy to let us know how poor WGS is and how they would have done better but, unless they're telling us they always get it right, they should be posting equally about how they get it wrong occasionally but I never hear that.

It's a frivolous cheeky point , as you well know, but, it was not particularly directed at yourself.

An easy travel fixture for you next week.

gweedorebhoy,

Re your response to 001 bhoy, there should be an addition.

Not everyone who defends the Board's policy is a brain dead lackey either, but, you're right, we should bin the hun jibes.

or a member of the sofa csc

Culled from Facist Facist earlier: (apologies for the Hun scribes spelling I blame it on catholic schools)

...there is a sticky-sweet whiff of malaise about Ibrox atm, like most bad odours it seems to seep into everything and gets everwhere, some may know it as the stench of failure, under-achievement or lack of ambition.....for me it is a malaise however because those in charge 'know' that it is there, imperceptably, but they just cant do anything constructive about it and all the time it spreads like a rot'infecting' everything it touches. Murray started the 'rot' with his poor financial decision-making but to be fair to him - and usually Im not that forgiving - he has made 3 (some would say half-hearted) attempts to address the issue:

1) PLG - failed disasterously
2) the 50m 'injection' - not a financial expert so cant really comment
3) Bankrolling Walter's return to the tune of 20m or whatever it is - initially looked like a succes but now is proving to be a disasterous waste

The problem is that Murray wont sack Walter and that Walter wont leave on his own - unless Murray sanctions it. Murray want out and Walter leaving before Murray would mean another 'new start' at Rangers which Murray does not want to bankroll. Also Walter know that the prospects for the young McCoist are based on him being able to 'hand down' a winning team - so, paradoxically, Walter cant go until all the bits of the jigsaw are in place to smooth the way for McCoist.....hence, the malaise that pervades a 'losing' Ibrox. Change is desperately required, everybody KNOWS it, but it simply cannot come from within. I just dont see a way out of this as the fortunes of the major 'players' in the drama are just all bound too closely together. A desperate, desperate situation.

This is great news my fellow Tims, they are squabbling and bitching among themselves and it is a truly wonderful experience to be allowed into the hallowed blogs at www.followfollow.co.uk .

Give yourself a Hunday night treat and log on (joining and being accepted is a process that takes a wee while but the hassle is worth it in the end).
Wattie must stay, Wattie must go, we want Ally, we don't want Ally - you get the drift. The one constant is that Moonbeams has lost all credibility with the Huns - dead man walking if you ask me. Now to get back to Facist Facist - it's almost as funny as George & Mildred.

This is now Celtic's Transfer Policy De Rigueur.. and one in which I am in Emphatic and whole- Heartedly in Agreement.

Why is that..?

Because, it is the wise thing to do, in light of Celtic's much degraded position on the Financial Totem Pole.

Foist and foremost.. Celtic, must make sure.. that Celtic can continue to Exist.

Therefore..like yourself and your family... it is of Paramount importance, that one must make sure that one has the wherewithall to put a roof over one's head, and clothe and feed the bairns. Not to forget to maintain one's spouse, in the custom to which they are entitled.

In Celtic's Case.. it is THEIR Family, of Team Members.. and over all Business Expenses ETC,
You get the idea?

It is imperative, to remember, that a business enterprise such as Celtic is no different in being duty bound to attend to its own IMMEDIATE responsibilities, just like yourself.

They must watch their purse strings with a hawkish eye,as they have many dependents and obligations to take care of, in the day to day running of their enterprise.

And in this Present Celtic Administration their watchword is always...

Look after the POUNDS, and the Pennies will look after Themselves.

Expect a Noo Left Back.

Plus new Mid Fielders and a Noo Striker.

And.. Dinna forgeet whit ah said..

Don't Expect Celtic to Splash the Cash.

It's best just to lurk on FF. Any post they don't like will immediately get you labelled as a timposter and banned.

They won;t accept online e-mails but ones from an ISP are fine (btinternet etc.).

Paul67,

Here we go four in a row!

THAT (FOUR) is nearly half of THAT (NINE)! :-)

Hail, Hail

Regi

setting free the bears

apart from being a social celtic site for fans, and well done to all those doing the great work for our fellow tim kano and his family when they need all the support they can get, we are all a happy content bunch and all is rosy in our football garden this weekend, so we can go off and do other things safe in the knowledge our club is heading in the right direction and is in safe hands,

it seems that it is far easier to have a go at all things celtic when we have hunposters and media house employees attempting to divide us on this and other celtic sites, but this weekend they are hurting badly and cannot even bring themselves to turn on their laptops to have a go at us, and long may it continue!

theforceiswithuscsc

Kojo,

I would be surprised if we brought in as many as four players during the January window, given that we only have the domestic challenge for the remainder of the season.

We all know the one position that desperately needs strengthening but as players come back from injury we are pretty well covered elsewhere.

There may be one or two going out though I suppose. And I would hope we are looking to sign up a couple of good Bosmans for the summer.

Benjybhoy...........

watch out for aw they bluenoses will hiv ye corrupted, stay away from the dark side, in the light amongst friends, ye know it makes sense.

Big hello to CQN'ers at BB's yesterday a great day and magic putting faces to names.

Jinkysboy mind ye have the gym tomorrow I'll expect to see a schedule of training at the end o the week!

Agreed Gordon_J

I think we have to strenghen that one position and perhaps cover/replacement for Artur Boruc, hopefully its all we need for the SPL.

Regiblinker :-)

It sure is; enjoy every minute.

SFTB ,

Barry Robson and Sami were subbed early if my memory serves me correctly . Maybe lessons ae being learned .

On the sub front is there any advantage in waving a clipboard in front of a player for 6 minutes over keeping a clearly injured player on the pitch?

We beat Inverness and the Huns lost so everything is all right then .

Lets all bury any ambitions we have for our great club.

My dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,Friend.. Gordon_J

I may be wrong.. but..

I have the distinct impression that the January Window,in the last few years, has been.. overall.. a most Important one, in as much as adding.what turned out to be VALUABLE and Skillful Players and most NOTABLY...has been Our Most Successfull Intake Period.

And I fully expect that this January window shall maintain that Tradition.

The End Game in the Race for the Flag.. is ineluctably the most Trying and Important part in the overall Race.

Therefore.. it behooves us, this January.. to Make sure that we Bulk up.. for the exhausting and tousy confrontations to come.

Your remarks concerning the assumed fact, that we are well prepared in having enough Midfielders.. etc.. on the surface, seems to hold water.

Howevahhhhhhhhhhh....

According, to Mr.Murphy and other sages...

Things can.. and do..and always.. Change.. and, at the most awkward of awkward and inconvenient times...

Na.. Pal..

We canny hiv enough Warm Blooded Boadies, at oor disposal..

How was GW?

While it's quiet-

How many red and yellow cards does a referee carry ? Well, I thought one of each. That was until this incident in last weeks Mainz-St Pauli game. I've just never seen anything like this before.

Where's yer big pal? Has Sir F had him kidnapped?

Bradford Bhoy:
yes they do check you out, their questions included:
Q) Are you handsome
A) No, I'm very ugly

Q) Do you have a fixation with separate schools?
A) Yes and I think we should ban catholic schools

Q) Who are the peepil?
A) We are the people!

Q) TFS racist or a bit of banter
A) LOL, a bit of innocent banter what else oh Worshipful Master

Well done Benjy, you're in - welcome to Facist Facist!

Remember all FF bloggers get free instant membership of the Masonic Temple of your choice, membership of any Orange Lodge (free flute) and a poptastic poster book of Handsome Huns through the decades including Big Fat Derek, Greigy, Gregor Stevenson, Ian Fergeshun, Davie the Elephant Man Dodds and Terry Warlock.

Re Parkheadcumsalford's post earlier; I completely agree that Donati (when playing with confidence, which is not always), and young Mr Crosas, offer us a footballing intelligence we don't otherwise have.

However, I would point out another area where we fall down - our midfield just doesn't link to our front players. Generally we play to the midfield (when Mick or Big Artur don't just punt it - Mick has been criticised, but Artur's distribution is in the same class, althogh he's the best Celtic keeper I've seen in 46 years) and then play the ball wide - we have a Ray Wilkins-like capacity for playing a square ball. There is very little real play through the middle. Of course, it can get very busy there, but we don't even seem to try, I had hoped that wee Sean would be the Bhoy who would link for us, but aside from his (re)debut he hasn't been played there. I love wing play, but there are limits. If one of the front two drops deep, then the midfield must be able to step forward to interact with them; unfortunately, our midfield is too often just Scott Brown (plus one defensive player, plus two on the wings), and is overwhelmed. We need a bit of movement and interchange in there.

Kojo,

We are now almost through the heaviest period of the season with 6 CL midweek games as well as a couple of league cup ties. The period from January to the end of the season will, unfortunately, be a bit lighter. And we will have players coming back to full fitness who will not have played too many games.

Howevahhhhhhhhhhh....

I'm not adverse to a good bargain if we can improve our quality. It looks like Naka will be going in the summer and he will be a hard one to replace.

Nafos

I've buried no ambitions.

I'm enjoying a great spell of achievement by our club.

2 subs were made just after the hour mark yesterday- I doubt that would satisfy the early sub demand- the critics want first half subs nowadays, don't you know?. WGS would still have got it in the neck for leaving the 3rd sub to the final 10 minutes because, well basically because, you can always criticise with hindsight.

Well I see somethings never change, the weekend rangers drop 3pts and Celtic go 7pts clear (yes 7pts clear to any of the media looking in) in the league........one rag has their back page 'I won't quit!'headline (wgs saying he wont walk away) and 6 pages inside with the 'Celtic cracked crest', oh dear, they must be hurting big time and long may it continue.

It is obvious to see how much the huns are hurting from the Scottish media today. There are no speculative articles in todays press about where Rangers are at just now. The ability to comment on articles on The Sunday Herald or Scotland on Sunday is not possible today and the NOTW carrying a spread with cracked Celtic crests. The only comment about Rangers are mtach reports. Zero speculation? Truth is that it has now got to the point where even the demented scum bag poodles of Murray laptop loyal cannot put a positive spin on it anymore. There is nothing to speculate about - If The SFA fine Watty as well then I´ll take that :-) great isn´t it lets hope so @Jim White :-)

I was counting the number of Danish players that ply their trade in better leagues than the SPL and it is quite an insight. Going out of Europe so early was an acceptable blow as we need to bury Rangers in the SPL this season and we are not good enough to do anything substanial in Europe and win the SPL. The title is everything. I found it very disrespectful from our fans last week to shrug their shoulders and state "ah well I´ll take the treble instead" as if it was a given. It´s not as Aalborg proved - anything can happen. Forget the cups. Use the cups to bring on possible first team players. That should save us a fortune in the transfer market. Leave the cups to Rangers. They dont bring in much finance. Allow them to paper over the cracks. A cup win here and there for Rangers is exactly what they need.

However, we need to do what MON done and make sure we are unbeatable in the league. Opposition teams need to turn up knowing that that they are already beaten. Celtic Park needs to become a fortress again. This is the best way to prepare for next seasons European attempt. It would appear that with almost a full first team out injured that once we start to get those players back that it should give us a bit of a breather. We definitely look a bit jaded but with no midweek game this week it should give us a chance to recuperate and all this knowing you have a 7 point lead. The players will sleep better. great isn´t it lets hope so @Jim White :-)

We need to stay ahead of Rangers for the January transfer window to pile the pressure on teetering on the brink Rangers. Can this Januray transfer window compare with when Barry Ferguson & Kris Boyd got PLG the sack ? How garbage were they yesterday? :-) With Scotland and Denmark level within the FIFA rankings we really need to stop playing these Rangers never beens in an international setup. I reckon that the cardigans mid week comments about the impending January fire sale helped Hearts big time. Watching players like Whittaker and Burke play as if they were playing for their Rangers careers was evident yesterday. As was the support they were getting from their own fans yesterday. More please :-) Can the level of hilarity and ridicule hit those heights again so soon ? Did Whittaker get burned at the stake down the old toon yesterday ? great isn´t it lets hope so @Jim White :-)

I also thought that Adam, Boyd, Weir and Lafferty escaped red cards yesterday and how poor was Mc Gregor ? great isn´t it lets hope so @Jim White :-)

Those with a demented bent will first off state that; yes off course we are 7 points ahead but that we played poorly yesterday - they they will point out that we haven´t beaten any big teams this year - that Rangers beat us away so they cant be that back. That is why it is absolutely imperative to win SPL game by game and heap the pressure on the huns before the 27th. If we do that and we manage to take something from Ibrox then I might even allow my own mind to dream of a treble. great isn´t it lets hope so @Jim White :-)

Anyway enough of me prattling on. I was delighted to hear PL tell the support officially what Charlie Nicholas is; A bitter paranoid never been. It was also fabulous to hear him state that he expects Naka to be here until the summer. Koki has big boots to fill thats for sure. I hope his replacement is in place this Januray.Gordon Strachan also emphasising that he will be hanging around for a long long time yet was music to my ears. That must really irritate the demented bigots ! great isn´t it lets hope so @Jim White :-)

I haven´t seem much activity on the boards since yesterday I take that as evidence of partying amongst friends. great isn´t it lets hope so @Jim White :-)

Hail Hail

sorry don't buy British papers, so can someone inform me what has happened regarding the cracked crest?

also does this happen to any other club?

Ulster-celt

My dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,friend, Gordon_J.@ 7.19

You have the temerity to bald facedly declare that our Pre- January period in the league, is the Heavier..and therefore by assumed implication... the maist important?

My woid.. you do do hiv a most short memory...

In fact, I would go as far as to assert..that You are the Proud Possessor of the Shortest of Memories, pal.

Sorry to alert ye tae this fact... but..

The Period, AFTER JANUARY... in the Celtic schedule .. which includes the ALL SO IMPORTANT... run for the Laurels..the Marbles and the Whole Enchilada..

Is the Toughest, the Roughest , the Most Heart Stopping and Palpiting Period.

"Dae Ah hiv tae remind ye o' our most Gargantuan Struggle to lock up the Jauries... last season?"

So quoth, Zarathurstra..whom you know as a man,who besides being no mean Shiner Of Shoes, and presently ensconced, at Caesar's( He moves around aloat).. is nevah evah wrang in matters, Soccer.

Kojo.
yer pal.. who likes ye a loat.

Without question!

Ulster Celt

The News of the World ran two double page spreads with the cracked crest in each corner, "debating" Celtics performance during the week

That's me just back from a weekend in the Costa Del Greenock with my uncle and aunty.

great banter in the csc, great results all round on the day aswell.

onwards to 4iar!

Surely discussiong these comics is exactly what they are wanting?

There is no financial, football or morality crisis here,

Howevahhhhhhhhhhh

Should a journalist rather than a PR agent be looking for a crisis it wouldnt be hard to find a story.

Kojo,

I simply meant the firat half of the season is heaviest in terms of number of games. Including the Villarreal home game we will have played 9 midweek games. After Xmas we are likely to play only 3 or 4 midweek games (unless we have cup replays).

Less games means less injuries and more time for recovery between games.

But the most important period - you are correct! That's when the trophies are given out.

Today's stat is that of players who started a game in the SPL, only the 2 Browns have escaped injury/suspension.
The list of players who have missed games through these items are Boruc, Hinkel, McManus, Caldwell, Naylor, Wilson, Hartley, Robson, Maloney, Sheridan, McGeady, Donati, Nakamura, McDonald, JVOH, Loovens, Crossas, Samaras. (18 in total).
Added to that Djoumbe, Hutchison, Killen, Mizuno and McCourt have also had problems.
As far as I know, O'Dea ,Balde and Caddis have been ok as well but they haven't started matches.
Looking at that list, it's amazing we've got 36 points out of the last 36.

Kojo,

Mr Appiah is looking for a new club. What about a 6 month contract with a few of a longer deal if he proves his fitness. I see that is a real bargain. No cash need spending on that 1. Not forgetting the:

FREE THE NEWCASTLE 1!!

on a bosman or a cut price deal of £500k to £1million to take him in January.

I said to Paul67 last night, that i haven't got a clue about the going on's with Tamas and what Celtic were dealing with, however i reckon from a footballing point of view i reckon he was a good one. There are quuite a few good Romanian's, Goian, Radu (ideal for leaft back) and not forgetting the holding midfielder and genreal Radoi.

Eatsern Europe is the please for GS to realise his potential in Europe for me. Tecnhically gifted and treat the ball like a prisoner.

I see Thomas Vermalen was playing again at left back for Ajax again today doing nae bad either there considering he's better position is centre half. Cracking defender.

Rennes against PSG tonight on the box. Might be worth a view. Stehane Mbia of Rennes is a pplayer. Might have missed the boat though as i think the big guns might be sniffing for him.

My dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,friend.. Gordon_J.

I thought that I adequately covered that fact that..

One can nevah hiv enough Warm Blooded Boadies at one's disposal...

As they say in Downtown Altona..

"Excrement, does Happen!"

And one must always listen well, when an Altoonian Doth Speak.. after all.. they are all Dairy Farmers.. and being in that not so salubrious of endeavours.... they know an awfy loat aboot whit ah jist quoted.

Na... one must always be prepared .. as when one door closes..you kin be soiten, that another is jist ready, tae bang in yer face.

Ye nevah, evah, kin predict whatevah ye might step oan.. as yer make yer way.. through the jungle o' life.

Injuries, tae yer players can change the whole ball game.

Ulster Celt

The cracked crest thing is ours and ours alone. It works for the press because we have tended to react to our team's failures more than most. I don't know that for a fact, but I have felt it over the years. Many's the night I have tuned into hear RFCgeddon, say after Kaunas or even last night. But, I'm usually disappointed.

I mean, take the mighty Jambos this weekend. Their players are not getting paid, according to reports. But, that's it. Hearts! A big club, lots of fans, that story must run and run. No.

Celtic is the still the hot ticket on negativity. And negativity is the 'ity' that sells.

I say let them play that game until their ink runs dry. This blog is all we need. News that we can rely on, serious and respectful debate on team matters, an outlet for agony on the likes of Tuesday and the place to celebrate with all your energy after some of the greatest victories in our history, happening right now while you and I are around to see it and believe it:

Man Utd with 'a-goal-in-a-million' Gordon said
AC Milan in the last minute
Shaktar in the last minute
Rangers in April in the 94th minute to stay alive for 3-in-a-row

When you re-read our history in your autumn years you can bore everyone in your vicinity with the fact that you were actually there in November 2006, October 2007 and April 2008.
All the best.

LOL

You know things are bad when huns are calling for Murray to sign Stephen Ireland :-) :-)

BBC message boards

Awe Naw, well said.

PeteTheBeat, fascinating, well spotted.

I'm not one to spoil the good moods but can I advise a little caution. I'm a big believer in coincidence and can remember going 7 points clear of the Bad Guys in Sept / Oct 2004. Focus. Keep our eyes on the prize.

Right, off to leer over Rachel Stevens.
I mean watch Strictly Come Dancing. Mrs 53 says I must!

EN

That video is great - did you make it - could you do it again and add the photos I took with Kanos dad and the CQNers etc. I have quite a few on the bebo page now

BTW - Mrs Jinks wouldnt let me stand outside Mordor with a sign saying "Its freezing here - 7 below Celtic" She said I was a big wean ............... was that a newsflash !!!!!!!!!!!!

Petethebeat

I was interested in your comments about The Broons (Scott and Mark, not Hen and Joe). It remeinded me that I was thinking at the game yesterday (hard to believe I know) that Scott of that ilk has not seen a yellow card for quite a while. I might well have missed one but I think his improved form and better disciplinary record are connected.

Yogi Bear : Smarter than the average bear. Probably Boo Boo is also smarter than the average poster on FF.

ggh

Lurgan53

I would sign Rachel Stevens in the Jabuary window - think how many that would add onto the gate

Jinkysbhoy

I thought about that, wasnt too sure about putting people on it without their permission, but can still add to it without too much bother if need be.

Shocking about the -7 sign, I held back production for that.

EDB,

I believe the great author is lying low recovering from the old tickled trout. I also cannot wait for the next episode !

Soal ,

GW ? You made more sense with the old Shaking Stevens myth .

SFTB ,

We both love the club but I do feel the need to speak out when obvious errors and omissions take place.
Tuesday was a total disgrace and, even after events yesterday, remains so.

But we have three trophies to play for, so lets push on and win the lot!

Jinkysboy

I can see the back of the strip now : Stevens 38D

Estadio Nacional

Mrs jinks called me a big wean - Ive been sulking ever since

I needed her to take the photo. Didnt fancy asking a stranger outside Mordor to take my photo - pulling my jacket off with the hoops under and holding that sign up in front of me.

If you could update it and send to me it will only be sent to Roz for their family to view. And can you change my name to Jinkyboy (Im allergic to Hs)

Paul67,

I just want to put on record that you have created a thing of beauty (and necessity) especially for us who don't live in Scotland. You have given the worldwide Celtic family the chance to share their love for our Club and what it stands for. My thanks to you for that.

For me, it has been maybe best exhibited by the concern for Kano. But there are almost daily instances of what makes us who we are.

Let's just hope that G.O.D lasts for a long, long time. After watching bits of the game from Tynecastle, I am more sure of that than ever I was(and I never ever write off EU's team)even during Big Jock's tenure.

The media in Scotland seem to be in meltdown. That can mean only one thing. TFOD's days are numbered.

WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED.

GGH

That strip - worn in the SPL clinching match - what price at auction

jinkybhoy

i thought you were at it with the sign, much kudos!!!!

My dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,friend.. WGS

The Plethora of Players in demand.. is no criterion as to their individual talents.

My experience in life tells me that handsome is as handsome does..

When one loosens ones purse strings...one cannot be soiten that what one receives, in return, for one's Nickel..will be all that that is promised.

Thereby, hangs the tale/tail... or the crux..or the whatevah...

Celtic, just simply play fast and loose with their bawbees.

They have show many scars, because of their past indiscretionary faux pas/faux passes.

And they hav received them, because of their refusing to think before they leapt.

It is nevah a good idea to allow one to be beguiled by an Agent's Hype, concerning the allurements offered by his property.

Take two of your suggestions, for instance..

Appiah, and The Newcastle Tenderloin.

Both of these players would only cost money.

With little chance of giving value, in return.

Appiah.. does not make the grade in several of Kojo's Famous Screen Tests.

He breaks the rules.. 1 thru 3.. na.. Appiah is no even woith the wee blue packet, that ye used tae get wit' yer Smith's Potato Crisps.

And the other guy..Owen of Newcastlle.. is so faur past it...

that he is oot o sight.

He is whit they used tae refer tae .. as a member o' the walkin wounded... he is a decrepit bag o' physical problems..

So.. pal...

I am afraid that Pierre, will continue tae dae whit he hiz bin daeing sae weel..

He wull mak.. Many enquiries.. and he wull mak many offers..

but...

They wull be whit HE thinks the lad it woith..no whit they want for the lad.

And that is the reason that Pierre, is no making too much headway, recently, in managing tae obtain his targetted player..
And I could not agree more with Pierre's Approach.

It is sound... and it is the best one for Celtic.

Kojo.
yer pal.. who likes tae like ye.

I seem to recall him on something - Jim'll Fix It or something similar - many years ago and he came across as a great guy very dedicated to charitable causes.

Jinkysboy : Money couldn't but it. However you have just given me a great idea for my stocking filler this year.

And I agree totally with you about Tuesday. It was indeed a disgrace. To be beaten by a team struggling in their own league in that manner.

And before anyone has a go - we beat Barca, AC, Man Utd and the others because we somehow expect to. That's Celtic. We're not Aalborg.

The manager and players IMHO have gotten off lightly for that nonsense.

Ive got a hoops shirt with a world cup winners signature on his name on the back of the shirt. Juninho no7

Interesting discussion over the weekend.
What is the current ball park value of Artur Boruc.????
Considering after the euro championships his ball park

Right here ,right now
What is his current ball park value
Certainly makes you think

My dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,friend.. Kikin.

La Vita e Bella

Walter 'I don't mind the gap' Smith looking at a 'must win game' to keep their championship hopes alive...

... Now do I mean the December game?

We conspire to be devoid of football nous and yet still win?

How bad are we?

I don't really care.

And I don't care about January.

Although considering Lee Naylor's heider cum knee controlled cum shy to them display (And that over his looking up and kicking the ball to their goalie then raising his arms in a 'It's no ma fault - I'm Sh**e' apology) maybe that's a tad irreverent.

Regards signings I will be happy with a left back to get us to the end of the season, a fully fit squad should get us the treble.

If Naka goes in Jan then we must have a suitable attacking replacement also.

Jinkysboy

Job done and email on the way.

Rachel Stevens is no Claudia Winkleman, now she is worth watching, Spanish football for me.

EDB ,

Mrs NAFOS was a fan of the Welsh Elvis back in the day, a fact which SOAL loves and tries to pin on me by association.

I think he does come across as a good guy but the denim must be even more faded now.

The goutmeister will indeed be gutted at having to pay full-fat prices ( £1.59) for his twig-infused pints of Auld Monsignors Dribble.

I think the club would be making a mistake by not considering signing the odd player who could add a lot, but would not have resale value. The likes of Sylvinho or Appiah would have been useful last Tuesday!

EDB & NAFOS,

I am on record on CQN as saying I´ll be delighted with a draw against Aalborg. I am also on record as having said if we go into the UEFA it will give the huns a lifeline for this season. Personally for me that wasn´t worth it unless we were getting assurances that we were going to win it. Watching the Pompey Milan game rest assured me that unlkess we were going to adopt Wattenaccio it was never going to happen.

Having personally witnessed so many apalling away day performances I thought the optimism about us qualifying for the CL with Man U doing us a favour was hilarious misplacement. If we had beaten Aalborg at Celtic Park as we should have, then maybe I would have been more inclined to believe that we would have got the three points necessary to take us into UEFA.

I didn´t celebrate Robsons goal as much as I should have at the time as I was waiting for Celtic´s "Caldwell" moment. I´m not picking him out. Just th ethough of Celtic actually getting an away day win after sqaundering 55 points ??? I was determined to wait for the final whistle. We should have won that game NO DOUBT I am not making excuses but there is a malaise psychologically with the playing staff. It´s the only thing that can explain the incongruity of our home and away records.

The pain of that defeat and the lessons learned will be compensated if we can keep winning SPL games. Hopefully those in charge of the purse strings will alleviate our obvious full back problem and allow our centre halfs to finally play in a regular defensive line up and with a great goalie who has all his troubles behind him. They dont have enough quality by themselves to cover for permanent weaknesses and they should be given the break. We wont go much further in Europe unless we do.

Hail Hail

Apart from a left back, I'd be ecstatic to sign a midfielder who is defensively minded and knows that's his job. Lambert, Lennon, Makalele type. Defensively sound, careful, tackles like a maniac. A player's player they say.

Round pegs for round holes.

Your favourite Stilic gave Lech 1:0 win (unfortunately).

TTTT ma bhoy takes defeat worse than i do and that's saying something it must run in the family, was talking to ma da about Tues and he said that he swore he wasn't going back,of course he was there in his usual plae yesterday.

As for Clyde ma bhoy has the wit and speed of thought but he's not showed any inclination towards phoning, plus his name Terry would probably go against him geting on.Ma Da who's name is also Terry called Clyde wan time said the phone lackey was all sweetness and light until he asked ma da's name,ma da said his attitude changed straight away.

Someone, think it was on here said something that impressed me and altered my mindset towards Celtic negativity. In essence they said we should rejoice in the sycophancy and positive spin afforded Rangers/Murray while we get the opposite.

His point the longer the critical eye is closed the longer murray's reign the longer Celtic's domination.

From being confrontational when given the chance am now more philsophical and enjoying the delicious incompetant partnership that is Murray and his media minions.

Fuelled by hatred they may even beat us this month but they will revert to type an drop points away from home as they have always done under Walterrrrrs(said lovingly)tuteledge.

Parkheadcumsalford, this place retains the propensity to bring the very best out of people.

I’ve not seen the Tynecastle game yet but look forward to catching it on Rangers TV during the week!

Benjybhoy, deleted, language.

Alasdair MacLean, I sure will. Take care out there.

Zbyszek, perhaps it’s time he moved on.

Stilic - your thoughts on him joining Celtic? Good signing or bad signing?

Bosnian Semir Stilic today:

Take him bhoys, take him. We will have easier way to the top.

WGS not Appiah PLEASE.

When we where in for him previous he made it clear he did not want to come to Celtic/Scotland. Vaguely remember reading a comment from him along the lines that although appreciating our interest the Celtic fans wouldn't want him to sign just for the money...
Dunno what his salary was in Turkey but there were reports of him looking for circa 70k p.w. at the time, has had a long term injury, (knee was it?) so waaaaay to much of a risk even at 30k even if he did change his mind about coming to Scotland. Anyway, we have Scott Brown:)

Hail Hail

That is a terrible hint!

I'm for Stilic in the Hoops. I posted the link of his today's goal. Free kicks are his distinguishing marks, but this is not a full story about him.

After reviewing this weekend's hilarious headlines and quotes, with the cracked Celtic crest the best of the bunch, I thought I'd add a few of my own. This is what could be in the Scottish papers tomorrow. CQN contributors feel free to provide additional ones.

We are SO rubbish right now - I'm outta here! L Messi, Barcelona.

I have no plans to sell up. Sultan of Brunei.

Obama looks like he's gonnae bottle it in January - C Nicholas, Dog & Duck, Camden.

These overpaid Brazilian six-time world cup winners should be ashamed of themselves - Jim Mclean, retirement home, Dundee.

We're seven points cheaper than Celtic. That's Asda price! - General Manager, Asda, Larkhall store.

Zbyszek
