Ominous looking Celtic after 9 games in 23 days
It is perhaps just as well there is no Richter scale-type device capable of measuring profanities, as a new record would surely have been recorded in certain parts of Scotland at 15:46 yesterday.
After several good performances, inspiration deserted Celtic and we watched yet another 11 v 10 performance that defied conventional wisdom, as so many of these games do.
The Celtic midfield retreated from their recent high standards, the strikers didn't score, and the defence seemed troubled by what little work they had to do. But as we both know, these are the days that win league titles.
Yesterday was Celtic's ninth game in 23 days, a period which saw the club suffer as comprehensive an injury crisis as I can remember, but when all domestic games were won.
I was delighted for Paul Hartley. His winner was not the first important goal he scored for Celtic, but it is yet more evidence that he has the skill and character to make important contributions for the club.
There is only one thing to say to a team who have won 10 league games in a row, make it 11 on Saturday, go seven points clear and let the rest worry about their place in the world.
The champions are looking ominous. Again.

Podium?
nearly?
Been out-n-aboot for the weekend.
My view on yesterdays game.
3pts won and more than likely we'll have a couple more performances like that over the coming season and take 3pts in the main.
anyway back to work.

Just got round to actually reading the new article - well said. Again.
I too was delighted for Hartley - his celebration was brilliant. The pure joy on his face reminded me of a kid who's scored the best goal of his life!
Not sure about the booking though.

I remember When Kenny D scored he always had a beaming smile on his face - a la Paul Hartley
01bhoy - from last post
Dempsey is a complete chancer. He got in with Fergus and the rebels and used his friends in the media to position himself as a main player...he promised £1M for the share issue. When the rebels had won, wee Fergus asked him to stump up the cash he had promised but he didn't but he still expected a prominent place on the Board. When Fergus told him (quite rightly) where to go, he used his media pals to have a go at Fergus and the new Board as much as possible and of course the old media were only to keen to oblige.
Galloway has been one of his proxies for a while (as has Charlie Nicholas)..it's been a while since I heard his name mentioned but obviously he's still trying to get on the Board.
Sorry Paul but we should be focusing on is the negative here.
From 'Washed out Celtic' ref: evening times to Referees blundering in our favour to injury crisis at the club.
I object! Why write something positive about our club if you can write something negative instead? Surely to God you can find something negative?
Oh well, I guess for now we will just have to focus on the fact that we have won our last 10 in the league, are in the semis of the league cup, are enjoying the exhilarating excitement of the champions league, are 4 points ahead of rangers, are financially better off than rangers, have a stronger squad than rangers, we will/can be buying in January and not likely to sell like our 'for every fiver....' socially unacceptable neighbors.
Donegal Danny,
If you were in that temp stand, did you get a good view of why Hartley was booked yesterday?
PS Agree that Hinkle was woeful yesterday. Brown was ok but also agree he does not yet inspire confidence. Donati...Didnt notice him much, not sure if that was a bad thing or a good thing.
Man On,
Im going to looking out for your post during this thread. (if you dig it out of your memory banks)
Im sure we are ALL looking out for it haha!

Morning all. Estadio here. It’s been so long since I contributed anything that passwords and logging in criteria are shrouded in the mists of time, so I am amazed that I could still log in!
First a massive thanks to Paul for publicising my scary venture, also everyone who either posted a response to the article or e-mailed me with their or other contacts’ details. I will reply individually to each one over the next few days.
The responses are phenomenal in their geographic spread!
Among them are USA, Canada, Mexico, Spain, France, Italy, Poland, Brazil, Peru, Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, China, Azerbaijan, and even Airdrie and Bearsden!
To date I have over 80 different locations!!
I would also like to thank those who have kindly offered advice, guidance and even organisational support in getting from A to Z, acquiring visas, avoiding diseases and other things that can’t be published on a family blog. Every one of you is a star and I will be getting back directly in the coming days.
As my planning takes shape I’ll let you know what is happening and anything solid in terms of blogs, articles, routes etc etc.
Unfortunately I have limited time at the moment on the internet as in an attempt to save a few bob, I discontinued my home-broadband, so it’s a max of 2 hours per day at the library.
Once I get my mobile capability up and running later this month I should be able to keep you more up-to-date with progress.
Once again thanks for the tremendous response and who knows I may materialise in a place near you in 2009.
By the way please keep the responses and suggestions coming to msincent@yahoo.co.uk .
Hail Hail and best wishes

There were a load of bad issues yesterday, but my favorite left back, made it all worth while. What a difference he made to the team when he came on.
I was begining to worry we were reverting to last years form when we lost Boruc, and it apppeard to be going that way, but as MrStrachan has said before we are much stronger than we were then.
Hail Hail.

Nakamura scores in Celtic win but aggravates knee injury
Monday 17th November, 05:30 AM JST
HAMILTON, Scotland —
Shunsuke Nakamura scored his fourth goal of the season as Celtic beat 10-man Hamilton Academicals 2-1 on Sunday but the sheen was taken off the win after the Japanese playmaker aggravated a left knee injury.
‘‘One of their players got on top of the injured part of the knee,’’ said Nakamura, who leveled with a 38th-minute penalty after Richard Offiong had headed the home side into a surprise lead. ‘‘It still hurts,’’ said Nakamura, adding he will still be joining up with his national teammates in Doha on Monday for Japan’s World Cup qualifier away to Qatar.

I feel a bit like donati here lots of promise , bags of skill but can frustrate and disappoint all too often
bit like yeterday , first half hamilton were up for it and we needed to win the 50/50 battle and with brown right side , robson on the bench and donati centre mid we were not at the races
2nd half with hamilton retreating and robson on perfect for mo to take a grip , didn;t really happen once brown went central with caddis wide we started to at least push them into their box and the rest is as you say history
think as gordon says horses for courses and donati is one for celtic park at this stage , leave love st for robson, brown and harltey
From Randalstown...................
"THE controversy surrounding a "vile and racist famine song" which is being sung at Irish players in the Scottish Premier League is to be raised in the European Parliament today.
Last night, Fianna Fail MEP Eoin Ryan, who is writing to all Scottish MEPs seeking their support for a stamping out of racist chanting, said the actions of some fans were "utterly despicable and totally unacceptable."
"In particular, they are chanting what is known as the 'Famine Song', which is a vile and racist song and which calls for Irish people who took refuge in Scotland after the famine to return home to Ireland," he said.
The song is being sung by fans unhappy at Scottish-born players who have declared for Ireland, namely Republic of Ireland and Hamilton Academicals midfielder James McCarthy.
Mr Ryan, who is one of the authors of a key European Parliament report into the future of soccer in Europe, said that one of the major aims of the EU White Paper on Sport is to eliminate racism in sport in Europe and, in particular, at soccer matches around Europe.
Labour TD Tommy Broughan said numerous constituents, who are long-standing Glasgow Celtic supporters, had contacted him about an alleged upsurge in racist abuse targeting Irish fans, especially at Celtic and Rangers matches.
"One constituent who has been a Celtic season ticket holder for over 20 years has found this development particularly distressing given that he often brings children and teenagers to Celtic matches," he said.
The Scottish FA has stated that the problem is being addressed by the Government, police and football authorities."

l Doubt with his Heart Condition he is chasing a place on the board l think Salmond just thinks he's the man for the job also after the takeover both his businesses failed, you can't give what you don't have.
As for his media pals, could we not be doing with pals in the media
l personally wouldn't call him a charlatan more a Celtic man that wanted the best for his club, and he probably more than most helped us get it.
l suppose whoever we bring in someone wont like him.

Didn't realise I could celebrate a win against Hamilton with such zeal. 3 point is 3 points is 3 points.
Just caught on the radio this morning that Rangers were to bid for Jonny Evans. Took me by surprise. Anyone else catch it?
Terry Mac last thread excellent point about making the ball do the work, this would also open up space to shoot from distance. I also beleive that inorder to provide more variety in our attacking options we need more movement from our front and attacking midfield players. All too often we attempt to walk the ball into the net, quick incisive passing opens up defences
lubo1977 - I would be very surprised indeed if the Celtic Board wanted anything to do with Brian Dempsey. I'm not surprised to hear George Galloway talking him up though, they strike me as very similar characters.
o1bhoy
I'm with lubo on the Dempsey issue. I'd be as enthuiastic about Brian Dempsey on the board as I would be about David O Leary as manager!

He ran down in front of our stand after the goal and was booked for being too happy! superb refereeing as always eh?! although to be honest we were going too crazy to notice!

China's main TV station has stopped broadcasting matches from the country's top football league, accusing players of lacking "professional ethics".
China Central TV (CCTV) has temporarily pulled the plug on a league that seems constantly beset with problems.
A scuffle broke out between players of two top teams last week, while another team has been ejected from the league.
The head of CCTV's sports channel says the league must improve before it is allowed back on air.
In an interview with Titan Sports, China's top sports newspaper, Jiang Heping, head of the CCTV sports channel, pointed the finger at the players.
The state of Chinese football at the moment makes everyone feel bitter
Jiang Heping
CCTV sports channel
He told the newspaper that every week brought fresh bad news about players, who he said were letting down their fans.
"Some lack even the minimum professional ethics," Mr Jiang said.
"The state of Chinese football at the moment makes everyone feel bitter. If it goes on like this, it's in danger of being thoroughly destroyed," he added.
Mr Jiang said the ban was only a temporary measure and did not mean CCTV would completely abandon the Chinese Super League.
But he said things needed to change for the better.
'In danger'
However, that looks a long way off, with the bad behaviour of footballers dominating the headlines again last week following a match between teams from Beijing and Tianjin.
A scuffle broke out that eventually involved team coaches. Reports said that after the game angry Beijing fans laid siege to the Tianjin team bus.
A team from Wuhan was also recently thrown out of the league after refusing to play matches in protest at a ban given to one of their players.
Football is popular in China, but the domestic game has long been in the doldrums.
There have been problems finding sponsors for a competition which attracts angry crowds, and has problems with match fixing and bribery.
The national team has done little better.
China qualified for the 2002 World Cup Finals in Japan and South Korea, but results since then have been poor.
The team currently languishes at 98th in the FIFA world rankings.
Paul,
I think it was nine games in 29 days. Anything less than that and we would have been due a one week extension to the season. We had a good November last year as well. Although we only played four games, two champions league and two SPL, we won them all.
December was the month that created the illusion that Rangers were in the driving seat. We dropped nine points, and had our game against them postponed. An improvement on that should see us in control for the start of their January sales.

well said on Mr Hartley.
He looked delighted and a few pounds lighter with glee.
Did anyone else get one of these letters from the SFA ?
Dear Mr H,
as a valued customer of ours, and a supporter of Scottish Football, we would like to make you aware of a major initiative we have put in place to make the game more fun, more accessable to the general supporter and offcourse
Drawing your name at random from the Hampden Debenture seats database, and based on your seat location and your uptake of tickets only for Semi Final and Final matches, we are aware that your allegience is to the Celtic football club.
Based on this , we would like to invite you to take part in the initiave, and give you a once in a lifetime opportunity to actually take part in a match.
If you would like to take us up on this offer please report to St Mirren football ground on Saturday at 11am with your football boots, and you can be the Linesman for the day.
Here you will meet with our referee for the day Mr O'Neill from Coatbrige, and your fellow linesman Mr Cassidy from Croy.
Further to this, in another first for the SFA, we have agreed a cross border agreement with our cousins at the Irish FA to extend the scheme to foreign nationalists, and this means that the 4th official will be Mr Finbar McGuiness of Dundalk.
I hope you can join us on this great day,
Finally please join us in congratulating our winner of the "Your the ref" competition, Father J P McCool of Saint Columbas parish in Garngad Glasgow.
Father JP chose to referee a future Aberdeen v Rangers match.
Watch for more exciting updates in the future.

Is it not 9 games in 29 days?
The 1st of the 9 was on the 18/10 against Inverness, the last yesterday the 16/11.
The reason I ask is the mighty rearrangers had 9 games in 28 days at the end of last season,(celtic 27/04 - aberdeen 22/05) which according to some derailed their quest for an unprecendeted quadruple.
Surely we should have got an extension?

Not sure if Dempsey on the board, even with all his media pals would be a good thing.
I've never known Celtic from dressing room right up to the boardroom to be so water-tight as far as "leaked exclusives" and "a Celtic source said..." and i think this has a lot to do with who we have on the board and in the management set-up.
Although the tabloids still try and unsettle us before a big game, it is happening a lot less these days, thank God we are no longer "pals" with Keevins, McNee etc as they were treacherous in their reporting, especially at the most inopportune moment for us.
They must have been aided and abetted by some inside CP and it seems to have stopped. What we don't need is someone coming in trying to put HIS spin on things, to the detriment of the club.
To me he is a Celtic-minded business man, but not a very good business man. So just a Celtic man, then.
Just my view of it

It wasn’t all cutbacks, either. “When we had won the league for the second time I said I was going to Rome with the family for a few days,” recalls McLeish. “We had done this deal with EasyJet, but David said, ‘As a thank you, I’ll put on the [private] jet’. So we relinquished our tickets for about £500 and had a few days in Rome and then he flew us back again. It was stunning, a phenomenal gesture.”
There was also a common touch. One of McLeish’s favourite parts of the week came at Ibrox on Saturdays. “He would come in about 12, and we’d have a roll and square-sliced sausage with our respective brown and tomato sauces and a cup of tea. That’s when he would tell me the team, so I am blaming him for that last year.”
Lennondinho18
Thanks for that. Thought that might be the case.
Hope not though.

Based in Paul67's financial predictions for the Dark Side I doubt they could afford me in Jan never mind a promising Man Utd first team squad player!!
paul, fellow CQN'ers...
whilst i've really enjoyed the free-flowing, one touch football i've seen so far this season, i think yesterday's game was an example of what's to come in away games as the winter takes hold and the pitches turn to mush!!
i think it's vital we keep picking up the 3 points whilst the pitches are still ok because we're sure to drop some points in the coming months.
it's just good to see the FOD have already been dropping points whereas we've generally destroyed the opposition on the own patches.
i finally caught the re-run of wednesday's match this morning and was really impressed with massimo.
does anyone else think WGS maybe have told hm that now, whilst other players are missing, is his chance to prove he is worth keeping? i think that if he fails to assert himself in a handfull of ganes he'll be out of the team again, and for good i'd expect.
hopefully he realises this too and grabs the chance with both hands as i think he's potentially a great option for the wide open spaces at paradise (not convinced about those tight wee grounds in the middle of winter though...!!).
hail hail from thailand (tropical storm approaching as i type...!!!).
the perma raging on my train this morning were truelly upset at the names of officials now being appointed , and i quote,

its only taken 100 years to get some "balance".

O1Bhoy Nakamura's wife wants to go home so that their eldest child can be registered in kindergarden....it will be too much culture/peer pressure if their children are not quickly re-integrated into japanese society before they reach school age...to put things into perspective imagine if you had japanese children who had been schooled outside japan and they were unable to recognise the japanese alphabet before school (japanese cram schools even begin in kindergarden) even with private tuition in scotland nakamura's wife would be extremely concerned about their children adjusting to their native country before they get much older. Culturally many japanese spouses and their families struggle with homesickness and lack of self confidence outside their native country. I only hope that when naka goes home at the end of the season that we retain koki mizuno for at least another year and therefore hope that koki gets some serious 1st team action during the remainder of this season

Sunday was too close for comfort,I think the majority accept collectively we were below par, however knowing that the Accies have an excellent midfield why did we elect to go with a pairing which was not succesful in previous games and does not have the energy for a combative game.
Donatti likes time, skilful as he is,he is not the man for a brawl, likewise Naka complete with bandaged knee,(excellent penalty),again I cant get my head around why he played on Wed.then again today, now the injury is worsened as it happened in front of the tent I was in,irrespective of all of that, he still is going to Qatar, cant figure the logic.
So from a Managerial standpoint given the need to bring back the injured and rest the weary, why is Naka going to play for Japan and I believe up to 6 others to play Argentina?? at the rate other teams are removing players it will be a Celtic select, surely they should be told to drop out,as we owe the SFA nothing.
paul67
yes credit, where credit is due and we should congratulate ourselves in the celtic media, because we sure as hell won't get it elsewhere, especially after a a game like yesterday.
wgs has the winning habit well established in premier league games. how many were surprised when we got the winner?
but caution, as there my be trouble ahead robson filled the left back berth better than wilson but he was under no pressure unlike the hibs game at celtic park where he was found wanting.
its a problem that won't go away, i also hope artur is restored quickly as i've never seen a stand in keeper that stood out, and mark brown's unwillingness to come of his line will cost us, against a better team.

M8 Services, Harthill, Today 11.00
Cardinal Brian O'Keefe: My Lords, I would like to introduce you to His Grace, Archbishop Osvaldo Ayala of Buenos Aires. Valdo is in Scotland in his capacity as Chaplain to the Argentine Football Association. If we can do the creeping death thing, lads....
DC: Dario Conti, Archbishop of Glasgow - I'm afraid I have no interest in the beautiful game, Valdo. What is this Celtic ?
JD: Joe Divine, Bishop of Motherwell, frequent visitor to Paradise although my nose was literally blue a while back. Welcome to Scotland, Valdo, and to the very extremity of my Diocese.
RC: Roy Carvery, minute-taker. Are we ready to proceed ?
Senga: Yous gonnae hurry up ? Wu'll be needin they tables in a minute fur the Eastern Stor.
O'Keefe ignores Senga and brings the meeting to order
BO'K: Welcome to the Hard Bean Cafe. I thought it would be a good idea to meet halfway between East and West in the finest tradition of episcopal convention. Harthill, once hostile to the Church, is symbolic of the coming together of different Christian cultures, the Constantinople of the modern era.
JD: And this will be the Synod of Whitburn ?
BO'K: I'll do the jokes, Joe
Senga: Yous finished wi they cups yit ?
BO'K: Basically we're here to call off the dogs where the dissident Republican, Winston Gemmell AKA Dick Collins, is concerned. Quieta Non Movere as they say in these parts.
DC: Who is this Gemmell ?
BO'K: It no longer matters who he is, Dario. Your old buddies in Italia have come to his rescue. Apparently he has the ear of Cardinal Mazzola of Milan.
DC: A hallowed relic ? Surely sacrilege. Theft of a sacred object must surely result in excommunication.
OV: A bit like the Hand of God ?
BO'K: No, lads, no. Gemmell-dash-Collins has influence amongst the Italian Hierarchy, something to do with gold telephony and cheap wine. Ring any bells, Joe ?
JD: Buckfast - the scourge of our diocese, Brian. Can we not excommunicate the misery-manufacturing Devon monks along with Gemmell ?
OV: This Buckfast is a highly-valued wine in Argentina. It complements our world-famous beef dishes.
Senga: Gauny yous drink up ur Ah'm gittin the polis.
BO'K: Gemmell lives to fight another day but I intend to be in regular contact with his Parish Priest who will monitor the rebel's movements. In the meantime we allow full access to the Sacraments and Votive Candles for Gemmell and his alcoholic adherents. I trust the recent price increase has been imposed ?
JD: Not without some controversy, Brian. Apparently the self-same WinninGemmell has imported some 24-hour-burn votives from Milan. He's Hayes-and-Finching our business, lads.
BO'K:Vox populi, vox Dei. Let it pass. Valdo what's on your agenda for the rest of the day? Can we drop you off somewhere ?
OV: Today I visit Celtic Park with Diego and the boys. Tomorrow night I am a guest at a dinner being held in Falkland Palace by Sir Gordon Duffield.....is he of The Faith ?....
Plod: I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to vacate the premises, gentlemen. Senga here requires your table for her sisters from the Order of the Eastern Star. Move along now... let's be having you.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
GD(on phone): Brown Browning Senior, please
Bertha: Who, may I ask, is calling ?
GD: Sir Gordon Duffield, Chief Executive, Scottish Football Association
Bertha: You've got a damned cheek phoning here, Duffield
Bertha reluctantly transfers the call
BB: Brown Browning, what do you want Duffield ?
GD: It's not what I want, it's what you want, BROTHER Browning.
BB: Out with it, Duffield
GD: The Argentinian FA are accompanied by a cleric who has contacts with ABBA
BB: Tell me his name is Fernando
GD: Valdo. He's connected to the Argentinian Boiled Beef Agency.
BB: And ?
GD: Peppered steak slices........ an economic miracle made in Ayrshire.
BB: Who is this conduit ?
GD: A Cofflik priest by the name of Osvaldo Ayala, nephew of the elegant Ruben, the Sanddancer of Santa Fe.
BB: I remember him.... Atletico Madrid. Love the club. Great strip.
GD: We're having a small dinner tomorrow night if you'd care to join us. It could be to our mutual palm-greasing advantage - only don't mention the 'grease' word.
BB: I'll think about it, Gordon, call you later.....

I dont think so
i think he is out for another 2 weeks
he is DEF out of the Ireland squad on wednesday which is a shame as he has been excellent for Ireland recently
excathedra the celtic players benefit from playing together in the scotland squad (long may it continue)fitness improved understanding...match time also increases confidence Many professional footballers always prefer to play matches rather than sit in the stand...i was pleased to hear gordon strachan's enthusiatic reply to chick young's loaded question about the availability of celtic players for scotland....remember how gutted barry robson was (and celtic were rightly furious) when he was sent home on disputed doctors advice from a previous call up. The celtic players will only benefit from playing against argentina and it will be a welcome challenge for mcmanus and caldwell to pit themselves against maradona's men

I understand that, but perhaps GS has to protect him ( and the others ) from their own enthusiasm as they are contracted players to CFC, and as we seen in the Samaras debacle re compensation, the national teams tend to use and abuse leaving us a problem at club level.
Was sicky bad last week and after watching that performance I nearly had a relapse!!
All that can be said about it is (the phrase my Da hates above all) well its 3 points.
However it would be remiss of me not to congratulate "my hero" on a wonderful goal. The joy on the man's face lit up the whole place and I too have it as my desktop and another one as the wallpaper on my phone.
A Celtic fan scores a goal like that to get the three points for Celtic, no wonder he got booked, probably thought it was worth it.
If it was me I'd still be running round New Douglas Park.

he has said so, as has Peter Lawell
he would not have signed a new contract, even if it meant we were able to get some money for him, as this could possibly have prevented him returning home if no one bid for him

he has a long contract and has now started to break into the 1st team

plus Naka is leaving in the summer so will want to play in EVERY single game, even if it means being sore
What is refreshing about Celtic in these days shadowy agents and dark forces, is that Celtic no longer have themselves dragged through the press everytime somebody joins or leaves the club. I'm not saying we're not splashed all over the back pages, but most of it is empty tittle-tattle made up by the papers or agents, when in years gone by Celtic were their own worst enemy. If Naka goes because he wants or needs to go back to Japan, then we'll miss him because he's quality and I'm confident that the SSM will be burning the mid-night oil to ensure that we get the most we can for him. In years gone by he'd have gone back to Japan and we'd have had to pay his airfare!
Does anyone know why the pitch was watered at half time yesterday? I'm unaware of the climate being notably drier in Hamilton than in Lanark and we certainly haven't been experiencing a draught here.
Alan in Thailand (fur noo)
I'd agree that we'd be happy to collect 3pts when not playing well on poor surfaces.
Only thing is that from what I saw, that looked like an excellent surface yesterday, they even had the hoses out at HT to add an extra bit of zip to the pitch.
I would say normally that would suit Celtic, but when facing a 5-4-1 reverting to 3-4-3, it was hard to get to grips with them at first.
A no-frills, gritty, sleeves-rolled-up performance and we may see a few more but as you say, if the end result is 3pts, we'll all take it.

I agree. They were a handfull yesterday.
Surface was fine.
Big guy upfront was terriffic.
I think Craggy island gaa was answering my question just as I was posting it! Wow.
O1Bhoy Koki is still a young lad a long way from home do not underestimate the effect of nakamura leaving unless koki is a regular in the first team squad. When I lived in Japan there were daily english newspapers, a bilingual news bulletin twice daily on the national TV Network(non-cable/non satellite). There was any amount of international foodstuffs (even 10 years ago !) Contrast that to the facilities available for Japanese in our country most alleged asian foodstuffs in the uk are of chinese as opposed to japanese origin...
BTW are you based near brisbane as my youngestbrother emigrated to Queensland 5 years ago
last but not least if you are over for villareal lookforward to meeting you

It must be the Lanarkshire connection!!!
I was raised in the sprawling metropolis known as Halfway, Cambuslang. The 67 bus used to go through our bit and right past Douglas Park!!! We never got off there though...
For a newly laid pitch (they had astro-turf til last season, or the one before) it was in great nick.

you would know my extended family well
Have to agree with our leader writer, its games like yesterday that win titles, lets be honest we were crap, but they were crapper, if such a word exists, captain caveman took his goal on the volley very well which caps as good a spell in the hoops as I think he's had, Mo Mo super Mo (v2) may well have sneaked off to watch the EPL game on the telly cause he vanished from sight for 85 mins and Cap'n Mick, bless his cottons, will never be a world class defender, but will normally play better than yesterday,
I still say that if we win at the hunnery in December the games a bogie, tea and medals all round and lets look forward to season 09/10.
Would be nice to see a couple of class acts recruited for our Uefa cup run though
Fond wishes to ye all

There is often a chill wind blowing through Hamilton. You are at the right end of the Clyde Valley. "We certainly haven't been feeling a draught?":-)

I can't believe the hysteria from the media about this penalty. The daily ranger is quoted as even "it was at least a yard outside" ! At least a yard at sprint pace is quite a difficult call to make but not as diffiult obviously as McCurry's 2 howlers for them against Dundee utd. Boyd's 1 yard offside call and now this penalty are getting more attention than the disgraceful and blatant cheating of decsons made by the reverand which had no defence. I like most now don't buy nor pay attention to the Scottish media and just stick to sites like this and the View. Every trick will again be used this season to stop 4 in a row.
p.s. Hartley has really changed my opinion of recent and is probably the 1st name on team these days. Keep it up Paul

You've been away too long - it's THE Halfway.
And WDH, don't you start
WG,
My first ever alcoholic drink bought in a pub was given to me by BFDJ in the Star Hotel in Harthill. Poured by a minion handed over to me personally by BFDJ. He owned that pub at the time. I was 15?? Considering that I still could pass as an under ager today ;-) I find that a remarkable event in my life. ;-) BFDJ ( A hall of famer now ????) would never take advantage of Sectarianism, under age drinking etc.
I had went fishing with some mates to Forest Field on bikes and on the way back we thought we´d chance our arm at getting served and though and behold I managed it much to my older mates delight.
When I got home. My ma smelled the breath and I dont think I have ever seen her looking so horrified when I owned up to having my first pint in BFDJ´s pub in Harthill. I shouldn´t have lied about the size of the fish I caught it was a dead giveaway.
Hail HAil
I thought the penalty was harsh (but not the sending off) although as way of explanation for the mistake, contact was made twice with Sheridan...his foot was clipped and then his arm was pulled. The foot clip was outside the box but the arm pulling was inside the box. Now obviously the foot clipping was the first foul and if the whistle was blwon for that any "foul" after the whistle doesnt count...but perhaps the ref / linesman didnt see the foot clip and gave the foul for the arm pull - which did happen inside the box.
Still, whatever happened it was far less of an obvious mistake than the penalty Rangers got against Kilmarnock last week which neither Jeffries or the old media made much of an issue of....

Therags, patnmick, modern arithmetic is rubbish!
O1bhoy, Naka’s deal was extended in a similar manner this year but the club do not have an option to do this again now.
WDH, he sure did.
alan in Thailand, good point about the ground.
Bournesouprecipe, not at all surprised at the winner.

Come on pal, only away 3 and a bit years! You don't write "THE Halfway, Cambuslang", you say it!!! We share a "THE" with Gorbals, Calton, Garngad, Wyndford and Faifley. Can anyone think of more areas that naturally have THE in front?
Its actually more like The Hawfway, the "way" bit pronounced like "wi" in wine. Thats Buckfast wine, of course.

On the "lucky" penalty yesterday my thoughts:
McDonald, McGeady, Boruc, Loovens, JVoH injured.
Naka, Samaras not fully fit after injury.
Hardly good luck. It was obvious first half yesterday that without a forward who can hold up play and take pressure off midfield and defense, that we were toiling. Yesterday we ran out of those kinds of forwards.
In that respect it was a fine result and it also shows what a great job McDonald has been doing recently.
The arm pull did not bring Sheridan down, it changed his body shape so that instead of falling forward in a controlled fashion, which is what we ALL do when walking or running, Sheridan lost control of where he was going to put his feet next. JVOH got a penalty v St Mirren for the same reason and that caused an uproar in redtopland. You do not need to swipe someone's legs away to stop them, just alter their natural forward motion control body shape.
That it took another yard or two for complete loss of control to become obvious does not mean it was never a penalty. What makes it never a penalty is the fact that the foul that initiated the penalty took place outside the line drawn on the park within which a penalty is the award for a foul. That is the rule but in yesterday's case the award of a free kick would not imho have been sufficient punishment for the crime.
For prevention of clear run in fouls that happen outside the box, I would rather see a direct free kick awarded just inside the box with no wall in line with where the foul occured with no sending off than the current rules. Call it an Unfair Play Penalty. The sending off is not a deterrent and spoils the game.
So technically it was not a penalty but it was a just reward for the foul.

I have mailed your home as this is no place to talk to your like.
Oh thanks for the stockings
Awe_naw.,
Thats a terrible thing to put your ma through. She must have been heartbroken when you admitted to drinking with an ex rangers player! :0

Now somebody correct me if I'm wrong (l know yees will) more than one paper are saying Naka has brought to a end a run of Celtic Penalty Misses....
Shirley My Bhoy Georgious Scored at least one from the Spot before injury....Well....

So when is Don McVicar due to come out and publicly defend Scottish referees and linesmen from media hyperbole and Walter Smith's paranoia?
ANNAOAN-
The fact that you exaggerated the size of the size of the fish you caught at Forrest Field, wasn't the give away, it was that fact that you said you'd caught something!!

Awe_Naw,
Nice! :)
"These things even themselves out" is a phrase we hear very often, though in recent years it has been used to placate us when decisions have gone against us. It's nice to see that now maybe the decisions are now evening themselves out.

HUGH ADAM former director
I AM slightly biased. I honestly don't like the man. I have respect for the way he has overcome his disability but that's all. There have been too many mistakes and the things that have been good have come on the back of other people.
Financially, it was big donations from other people that bailed him out and although he may have convinced them to give the money, that well seems to have dried up now. The stadium development was already under way when he took over. With certain managers Murray could not separate his personal and business judgment. They didn't need Mo Johnston – Souness should have been playing Ally McCoist.
David Murray was too loyal to some but he wasn't loyal to everyone. When people disagreed or had served their purpose and he was finished with them, he just got rid of them.
The question you have to ask is whether in the past 20 years someone else could have done better and the answer is definitely yes. He has been treated to more respect than he is really due. He should have done more to ensure there were better young Scottish players coming through instead of wasting money on people from outwith.
ROBERT McELROY Rangers historian and author
INITIALLY everything was rosy in the garden and there was the success of nine in a row but when hard times came, people found that hard to accept. But it deciding whether he has been good for Rangers you always have to bear in mind what the alternative would have been. Remember, Robert Maxwell was also in the picture and you have to wonder what might have been if he had got control.
The club has achieved great success while David Murray has been the owner and chairman but it has also accrued massive debts.
I remember one AGM when he waved away concerns about liabilities which at that time were about £25m. He said he wasn't interested in balance sheets, it was what happened on the field of play that bothered him. Within a few years the debts were three times that and the success wasn't what everyone had hoped for. His problem was not adapting to the Bosman ruling quickly enough which meant that we wasted money and when Halifax merged with the Bank of Scotland, the cosy relationship he had with Gavin Masterton was affected and he suddenly faced more restrictions and that was when the debt became a problem.
I dont think we have too much to worry about come Paisley,I actually expected Love Street to be the potential banan
