Strachan squad policy pays dividends

| | Comments (495)
It's not so long since we were asking, "why all the squad players?" when Gordon Strachan seemed to be spending his summer transfer kitty on players who would challenge for a first team place, instead of moving straight into the team.

Roll on a few months and Celtic have come through a period with four Champions League games and with 10 players missing through injury without dropping a point, which leaves them clear at the top of the league.

By carefully rotating his squad Gordon Strachan has ensured that new signings such as Crosas, Mizuno and Loovens have been exposed to the rigors of playing for Celtic carefully, while more experienced players were rested or injured.

In Cillian Sheridan we have even seen the emergence of another young talent who will challenge for a place when injuries are less prevalent in the years to come.

There is now more genuine competition for places that I can ever remember at Celtic, which will allow the manager to rest players, like Hartley and Robson last night, who have had a busy month and will play international football next week, while still being able to turn in a three goal victory.

The football has also been good recently, we are winning games more comfortably and playing an attractive game.  It will be interesting to see if the team can push on from this position when the more experienced players return.

nOW THAT JUST GREEDY

Okay 3 then

Welcome oldmanmanky.

It certainly is refreshing to watch Celtic at the moment and our manager Gordon Strachan has managed almost every situation to perfection so far this season. Players out of form are now back in form and we have options all over the park, with of course one exception!

Just watching Cillian Sheridan's opening goal there, it's no exaggeration to say it's as good a goal as you are likely to see a teenager score. Never mind that he's just taking the game up :-)

Foolish Foolish was a (unintentionally) hilariously funny place to be late last night.

Corrib 04 Tuesday - thanks for the advice re. 'walking' to Paradise. Popped into Bar67 for a quick pint of the tar, thought I'd arrived in Donegal at first.

Good craic right enough.

BTW anyone else think that the Loyal Cardigan was guilty of pandering to the sectarian bile by naming the (Irish-sounding) linesman who chalked off their 'goal'? Did I miss something or did he name the linesman who DIDN'T helpout Mr. McCurry last season at Ibrox v. Dundee Utd.? Will he now name every linesman that is involved in every disputeable decision from now on? If not why not?

SORRY Swanseabhoy.

Caps lock error.

PolepositionCsc

I sometimes wonder if Gordon Strachan is in fact the best manager we've ever had. That may sound ridiculous when Jock Stein was Celtic manager at one point, but remember that Strachan's not had as long as him yet. Did he predict the injury crisis? He's got every place in the team covered by at least two players and, as Paul said, we haven't dropped a point (since the injuries began). The way things are going, I see Four In A Row as being a distinct possibility and I'd be very surprised if we didn't take at least one of the cups as well.

Let's hope it has shown the experienced players that there is a lot of talent on the books and if they want to get back into the first team they are going to have to perform to their full potential otherwise there are plenty of eager players snapping at their heels.

Some of the football played last night was fantastic, crisp passing, good possession and some wonderful incisive assists.

When Koki came on, it occurred to me that 2 japaneese players were on the park at the same time. I wonder has this happened at any other club in Europe, or is this another "first" for Celtic FC.

The defeat to Rangers seems to have had a positive effect on the team.

We're playing some good stuff, scoring goals and getting performances from players who previously were not performing.

Another plus is that prior to the injuries GS was operating a horese for courses selection.

The playing style has changed, Crosas helped by keeping the ball moving.
Brown, Hinkle, McDonald etc are all playing the way we knew they could.

We seem to have a spirit now like the end of last season.

Hearing Smith last night apply pressure to officials was cynical and not just some off the cuff rant.
Most managers couldn't tell you who was on the line at a game last April, but then he isn't used to decisions going against his team.

Fair play to GS during this period. I was a doubter as I hated the way we had played for long enough.
Having McGeady, Samaras, Crosas will provide him with the choices and no doubt create unhappy palyer headlines, bring them on.

OH HOKI KOKI KOKI

Seabee, yes, completely inappropriate.

Drunken_Lullabies, Jock Stein is best by the length of London Rd, but I know where you are coming from. Gordon has also done it without having what you could call, great support.

Paul 67 Shun

The big thing for me is that we are now actually seeing a style of play and a system from Celtic. This has been missing for ages.

Both are working brilliantly just now, the football over the last run of games has been as good as that under TB in my opinion

I really enjoyed the game last night

Italia Bhoy and Aw Naw, i have added a point to the last artcile answering some of your points also

Seabee,
Glad you enjoyed it. First time I went there was only recently but I had good fun it has to be said. More Donegal than Donegal itsself Id say!

I tried posting at around 9am but had a problem with posting. Here is the gist of it: We have no sooner rid ourselves of Poppygate when some on here are keen to criticize our club over what is only speculation. Is it not possible that the stewards were moving people to their proper seats? We have read , after all, that many young fans move to that area because of the atmoshere.
I see now, from a post above, that this , indeed, might be the case. Regarless, can we not just wait and see before doing the job of those who attack us at any opportunity?

Gordon Strachan is up there with Martin O'Neill now with what he is achieving and the way he is going about things.
Especially considering the sound financial footing we now have and the far reeduced budget - not to mention the absence of inherited stars such as Henrik, Lambert etc.

However, he has a long long long way to go before he is considered to be better than the great man himself.
Jock Stein was unique and I feel his achievements at Celtic Park will never be surpassed.

Helicopter Thursday

I hear what you're saying, but Gordon Strachan has only been manager of Celtic for three years. Jock Stein was manager for thirteen years, and were Strachan to stay that long and keep doing what he's doing now then he could perhaps surpass that. I doubt he'll stay that long, though, and that form is not easy to maintain.
Please understand I am not questioning the achievements of The Great Man.

Well done WGS for getting the players through this sticky patch of injuries while playing some good football. Has anybody noticed this season there is hardly any posts that mentions the words "Mineshafters", "Happy Clappers" or "Taliban Towel Throwers".

Strachan isn't a perfect manager by any means and I'm sure he'd be the first to admit it. Some signings haven't lived up to the standards expected, some of his selections have baffled and at times the football has hardly sparkled. However, he has achieved a level of consistency that I have never seen at Celtic and we continue to get results which must start to eat away at the confidence of even the most optimistic Rangers fan.

Victories have come in various forms; coming from behind, last minute goals, wins without playing well and games like last night where we've just left the opposition chasing shadows. Walter Smith has the better of him in head-to-head games but as we've seen, Smiths forte is one-off cup football, not the slog of a 38 game campaign. I've been criticised for my defence of Strachan since day one but his critics are forced to eat more humble-pie with each passing week. There were calls for his head after his first year which seems even more ludicrous now than it did then. Where would we be now if we chopped and changed after every poor performance?

First year, Strachan had no competition. Next year, he also had no competition. Then he was lucky. I'm not saying we'll win the league this year but if we do, I wonder what excuses and forms of belittling his massive achievements will be fired at him. I think it's time that supporters on both sides of the divide gave respect to a guy who has seen off the challenge of two Rangers managers and I feel a third isn't far off.....

The Narrowbhoat Tim,

Real ale can be enjoyed in Leeds City Centre at The North Bar, Mr Foleys, The Wrens and The Scarborough.

Therags...

It really has been a joy to watch recently. We have passed the ball through teams, our defence has given very little away and the bhoys all seem to be having fun out there.
I feel a CLAW if we can carry the same confidence over to dENMARK

Hail Hail

Drunken Lullabies

I appreciate you are not questioning what Jock Stein achieved and that it's impossible to compare both men over vastly different timescales.

I just feel regardless of how successful Gordon Strachan is in Scotland he will never be held in the same regard as Jock Stein unless he wins a European trophy and I dont see that as a realistic proposition while we are in the SPL.

Paul, I think a big difference is also the way GS has got them playing when the opposition have 10 men behind the ball, move it around smartly and the openings will come.

The whole team seems to be reading the game better too and adapting to change when needed, as someone mentioned last night, when Killie refused to put a wall up for Naka the players put their own up.

Hi all, first post, lurked for a wee while.Great site Paul67,a very worthy custodian indeed.

Ive been enjoying lots of the posters views like Auldheid,Cadizzy,Pablophanque,Kojo,Lennondinho,Aw Naw,ThismanCraig and much too many too mention,(especially the Bhoy who does the Fergus alexandersson script thing-"Vewy funny")so respect to all and much of it.

Gordon "The Boss" Strachan is doing a great job,I often felt Walter had the better of him which was why I think some werent too keen however,Ive always been a fan of the wee man(not that anybody else isnt anymore)but Im really starting to feel that MON feeling where we really have matured into a force,he's done some great groundwork whilst winning titles and is showing his counterpart up for what he really was-a manager with pots of money whilst the opposition has nada.Suffice to say I have a very good feeling about future ties between our much flawed friends.

have not yet seen the goals from last nite but will be watching Celtic TV later but its great to read we played so well.

and does anybody else think Sandaza should be a priority for us in January (after LB position) ?

You're probably right about Gordon needing to win a European trophy to be seen as on the same level. However, I don't see why he couldn't do that in the next couple of years. We've got a great squad just now and, were it not for a few decisions going against us, we could be at the top of a CL group containing the European Champions right now. I'm not saying it'll happen, but I think it could happen.

Rhino

How come ye didnae mention me?

On the squad thing I reckon we've used 26 players in competitive games so far (and I may have missed one or two). Donati's a case in point - a month ago most of us would have doubted he'd ever be in the first team again yet now he's showing good form and seems vastly improved.

Another plus about our manager is the number of players who have stated in interview that he has been personally responsible for improving their game.

Welcome Rhino Shun

Two comments from game last night

yesterday i was going to post how disappointed i had been in Massimo this year. A few posters has praised him for games including Man Utd and i couldn't see it but last night i personally thought he was the best player on show by a mile.

Second point is that we have been doing really well beyond expectations given injury crisis but i feel sometimes when you
have too many options that selection can become an issue. We have
had a relativly settled team. Just because we have players coming back doesn't mean we will get better. ASK RANGERS ABOUT CAPTAIN

I think you are right in that under MON we beat rangers almost every game

under GS we have not had it as successful in the Rangers games, hence in my opinion why he has had a lot of stick from celtic fans

time for that to change very very soon

As much as I want to agree with you I think it is crazy to think we could win a European trophy, especially the CL. To an extent you are right as anyone can fluke the UEFA Cup - reference the Forces of Darkness in May.

We have never won an away in the CL and were outclassed twice(if we are honest) against Man Utd over the past month.
We have a good young side and I think we could build on where we are but progression would be making the final stages regularly and being a threat when we get there.

Jock Stein's Celtic were active participants in the latter stages of the old European Cup for several years and were not considered underdogs against many teams.

I think Gordon Strachan has done a fantastic job and can take this side further - just how far on a limited budget is debatable though.

Lennondinho18, totally agree. The system is now evident.

geebee1978, agree.

Gerrybhoy71. CLAW is the next big one.

GSU, it was interesting what Killie did when we got a couple of free kicks >30 yards out, they didn’t put a wall up at all for the first and did so reluctantly for the second.

Welcome RhinoReadsAutocue, good to hear from you.

may67, Donati looks a lot better when playing alongside new-Scott Brown, I wonder if this is the difference.

Italiahbhoy,

I never read that the GB booed the minutes applause. If you are saying that they did that then it cannot be considered peaceful. I wasn´t there so cant comment on that. Lennondinho18 intimated that the protesters that were leaving that were being booed by some. I was lead to believe by quite a few on here on CQN that there would be no mark of respect as it wasn´t due until Sunday. If customers are getting this sprung on them then it´s their right to leave. Just like a customer may leave a comedy night if he doesn´t want to hear stuff that he may find offensive. I will stick by my statement that if we are now punishing people for respectful quiet protest then Hitler has won. I think most of those that made the ultimate sacrifice would be appalled by it if it proves to be the case.

Back to the football

I find it an interesting observation that Gordon Strachan seems to learn lots and improve our standing when he is visited by the injury demons or is is just freshness.

Jim Morrison,

Sorry Lizard King but I have to ask you if you really are the spirit of the late Jim Morrison or are you really Neil from the Young One´s as you sure sound like him. I feel we should be told and in verse and song.

I thought you believed that CLAW was a new single malt

or hopinagainsthopeC.S.C !

Does anyone think there will come a time when Gordon Strachan's name will be sung by the crowd at CP? (without GTF at the end of it!)

Surely a manager who has taken us further than anyone in the CL, is pushing towards 4IAR with a team decimated by injuries, is statistically the most successful Celtic manager since Jock Stein and all this on a relatively small budget, deserves a bit of recognition from the support in the form of a full hearted terrace chant in his honour?

Inkybhoy,

Yup, live in the east, she's a Geordie.

Oh..and I forgot to mention - pushing towards 4IAR with a decimated squad on a relatively small budget, while playing pretty good football!

Does anyone else hate the debate regarding the manager? It really only plays into the hands of those in the media (And they clearly log on here).
I firmly believe we are very lucky to have such a talented young coach. The results, and genuine success in CL, are there to back my view up.
Also just read article on Etims regarding fans dissatisfaction with current board. I honestly don't feel this is a true reflection of the feelings of the Celtic support, especially not the posters on this site. There obviously are some dissenting voices, but with the revelations in financial circles and the plight of our dear neighbours, our board have followed the correct path. Furthermore, results on the pitch haven't been bad either.

The poll started ages ago and i will be honest in that i voted i was disapointed also

BUT

that was then and this is now

Once we know all the facts i can handle not signing any 'big' players in the summer

I know for a fact that Celtic tried VERY VERY hard at recruiting some top drawer players and that they just didnt come off

that is NOT dissatisfaction, that is being Unsuccessful in attempts to recruit

BIG BIG difference in my opinion

we tried very hard and i think if some fans (including me) had known that at the time then the vote would have been different

I trust the Celtic Board 100%

and I trust Gordon Strachan 100%

Afternoon.
Anyone got a link to the goals please? BBC doesn't work for me.

WhinoWeadsAutocue -

Fergus Awexanderson, MM

When is a goal not a goal?

re "Walters" rant last night about the linesman-with-a-tim-name putting his flag up (here if you haven't read it yet), can anyone spot the subtle piece of history re-writing?

It's kind of similar to the situation we had when Aberdeen put the ball in the net after play had stopped last season -

Smith said - "I think it was quite clear it was onside. Mr Murphy was quick to allow a Scott McDonald goal at Celtic Park and was quick to disallow that Boyd goal."

Now, correct me if i'm wrong, but go take a look at the "highlights" of the game on the bbc scotland website.

Boyd is through on the keeper (well outside the box - about 40 yards from goal). Linesman flags, referee whistles. ALL players stop playing and Boyd cheekily chips the ball, with hardly any power or purpose, into the back of the net. No-one celebrates, as the play had clearly been stopped earlier.

Had he hit the shot in exactly the same way without the play being stopped, the Motherwell keeper would've saved it.

But, no doubt that one will go down in history as a "goal chalked off" - when in fact, technically Boyd should've been booked for kicking the ball away after play had stopped!

DownForSam, the ‘spend more money’ calls have always/will always be there, even now, when the consequences of this (Rangers) are so evident, and the benefits of Celtic’s current strategy (3-in-a-row + ...) are so historic.

I caught most of the 2nd half last night and we were looking good, whilst looking as though we were playing very much within ourselves.

On Gordon Strachan, we are lucky to have him as manager. To keep this team winning whilst having a vatsly depleted squad in the middle of our toughest period of the season speaks volumes. In actual fact he might find it harder once all the injured come back to find a way of playing them all.

In my mind if we play our strongest team we could be left with a bench of Brown, Loovens, Donati, Hartley, Crosas, McDonald, McGeady. Then think that Naylor, O'Dea, Mizuno, Sheridan, Killen, Doumbe, Caddis, Hutchinson and McCourt aren't even getting a strip.

It might not be a CL winning squad but it is a squad that should give us enough options and cover to see us to 4IAR. To me anyway it's a long time since we could look to a bench as strong as we can now.

Thought this piece of US Secret Service code name trivia might be of interest

Vice-President-elect Joe Biden is known as Celtic.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/us_elections_2008/7726453.stm

I knew Obama and his crew were good guys.

"The referee blew the whistle for offside before Boyd had struck his shot so how can it be a goal?Well were also denied a stonewall penalty in the last minute of the game.I cant recall Walter Smith having a go at the linesman after Boyd scored an offside goal at Hamilton a couple of week ago. Mhhhhhhh..:"

I posted this this morning on the Times under Britneys article but so far it hasn´t been published

Paul67, it sounds like this Gordon Strachan chap is quite a good manager.

Having lived through the assorted Celtic managers of the 1990's, I can certainly appreciate how much Mr Strachan has done for our club, and how lucky we are to have him.

100% behind Strachan
25% behind the board, only Lawwell is worth the backing, the rest of the neo-liberalist macaroon bar banning Politburo can leave.

Wattie naming the linesman Mr Murphy from last nights Rankers game is a dangerous and sinister development designed to put pressure on officials and harbour a feeling of victimisation against 'Team Establishment Rankers'.

If Mr Murphy is attacked by Hun fans because of last night - Wattie should shoulder responsibility.
120 years of dignity - gies a break Wattie you are corrupt.

Cillian took his goals well last night but yet again it was Cadwelldinio that was my MOTM, assured in possession, sure in the tackle and good in the air. We have a gem in this guy make no mistake about it.
Onwards to 4IAR and a generation of domination!!

They can't excommunicate you. I've read it in a book. You've not done any of those things.

You never hear of much interest from other teams in our centre-halfs but how much does anyone think they would be worth, considering they both cost nothing?

Massimo Donati played so well last night because he was given all the time and space he wanted. He was allowed to lift his head and pick a pass. He takes on higher risk passes than anybody else and when a few don't come off, he gets the bird, which affects his play. When he's closed down quickly he can be disposessed very easily, he gets the bird from the crowd, which affects his play. He also played the withdraw mid-fielder last night which helped him. It was noticable that around me when the 2nd goal wasn't quick in coming in the 2nd half the support were less than tolerant of his and others poor passes.

great move by him for second goal

well played mo and all the team.

It's great to read the blog today and know that "great minds think alike".

Last night, after I heard the scores, I did think that this was our best squad possibly since the early 70's. Not only has the team played well despite some notable absences but some of the "stand-ins" are only at the begining of their careers. This is in marked contrast with a certain other team.

Is this our best squad since 1970?

Awe-Naw - don't hold your breath.....

I've taken the liberty of uploading a screen-grab of the "goal".

Notice how EVERYONE has stopped playing - two motherwell defenders, keeper has hands in the air, and even Kenny Miller has started tracking back to the half-way line!

You are correct, Joe Bidens codename will indeed be "Celtic"
When I heard this I thought " I cannot believe that SOB is sullying the name of our great club"
Joe Biden is an ass frankly (and this has nothing to do with his political allegiance)
Oh well

I meant to add the point on age when I put forward the depth of squad. I make it only JVoH, Hartley and Robson who are 30 or over, and even at that JVoH and Robson both only turned 30 the other day, sharing 7/11/78 as their date of birth.

If Gordon can nurture this squad correctly we have the bones of a very decent side for the next 4 or 5 years.

jinkysboy ,

It doesn´t seem to matter domestically. I find myself reassessing my seasons objectives. I want us to win the SPL, If we win that then an excellent job has been done. I have been screaming for a left back but if WGS has the choice between another experienced striker or a left back then I´m not sure.

I have two new dreams you see. One is a January transfer window that goes my way that means a new striker and a left back and then if that happens then I will allow my mind to UEFA cup final territory.

Imagine winning the SPL and the Uefa cup and without a riot or a league extension. Coming on the back of last year

Now if I was allowed to set Scotlands media agenda that would be headline news tonight.

RE: 'Walter's curious outburst, in which he decided to refer to the linesman by his Irish-sounding name, and not-so-subtly implied the guy is biased by claiming he allowed a Celtic goal in similar circumstances last season...

Whatever happened to "these things even themselves out over a season?".

Whatever happened to "unsurpassed dignity"?

Whatever happened to Don McVicar appearing on the radio to blast suggestions of official bias?

Whatever happened to the media openly mocking and ridiculing the "paranoia" of people who question our illustrious refs and linesmen?

Whatever happened to "If referees in Scotland make an error, it is an error. It’s not for any other reason, like supporting clubs or having a bias towards someone." - Walter Smith, August 2008 ?

I wonder if Walter will face a disciplinary charge from the football authorities?

Let's remember AC Milan are in the UEFA Cup this year, so it'll be much harder to win it this year than last.

BREAKING NEWS

SMITH ADMISSION PROVES CELTIC FANS WERE NOT PARANOID

By Kugh Heevins

Walter Smith last night blasted Tom Murphy for hise role in denying Kris Boyd a perfectly good goal at Motherwell. Smith is suggesting that the linesman, or as they are now known assistant referee last night cost Rankers a win by flagging for offside well before Boyd lobbed a cool and calm effort over the static Well keeper, who many claim had stopped due to the whistle, however there was no hint of this from my perspective.

where has this new phenomenon of biased officialdom came from so suddenly? quite literally out of the blue?

the SFA,SPL and Scottish Parliament need to address this blight on our footballing integrity, especially since Rankers have dropped a valuable 4 points in two games this season due to such decisions. this incidentally is exactly the figure they now trail Champions Celtic by.

Surely this couldn't mean the Celtic supporters were justifiable in their assumptions of institutional bias towards the Govan Gers? Nah........we upstanding members of the press would have noticed if this was happening.

by Kugh Heevins (I only write the article, not the headline by the way)

On the subject of good/great managers, Jock Stein took over a squad packed with quality but with no direction. He changed training and tactics, a total regime overhaul. His coaching made a group of undoubtably talented individuals a world class team.

Martin O'Neil was the only manager we've ever had with access to a cheque book, and he spent wisely and at times was very frugal. He also inherited Henrik who brought a lot of our success. He was obviously also an excellent man manager he took Bobby Petta from somebody the was struggling to kick his own backside into the guy playing keepy uppy in a old firm game.

Gordon Strachan took over an aging team, and has been given instructions to cut the wage bill and bring success, he's managed to do both. Some of his signings have been average others outstanding (Skippy last year was unbelievable). He's brought 3 League titles in a row, the last 16 of the CL twice and a cup or two.

Big Jock is still the best ever, but I'll be prepared to pass this accolade onto WGS in May 2015 when he makes it 10-in-a-row.

Helicopter Thursday

I agree with your point that the squad is not as strong as the one we had in 67 or around that time. I would argue, however, that it probably is as strong as, if not stronger than, the team that took us to Seville. Granted, we lost the final, but it was a close match which could easily have gone the other way, and that run was not a fluke at all, unlike Rangers' last year. It is of course very unlikely that we could win the CL this season, but we could get a decent run in the UEFA Cup, or still progress to the Last 16. I'm not saying we'll win the CL next year or the year after, but I wouldn't be surprised if we won the UEFA Cup in that sort of timescale or got to a quarter- or semi-final in the Champions League, if the team continues to improve the way it has been doing.
Maybe I'm a dreamer, and maybe I'm the only one, but I don't think it's a totally crazy idea that, in two or three years, this could be where we are.

Faithfuletc.

Was Kugh Heevins "astounded of forehead" when he wrote that article?

Paul,

How much do you think the new and vastly improved training facilities are contributing to the overall picture? It seems to me we have a vast improvement in the quality of squad players at our disposal nowadays - surely this can't be solely down the Gordon's keen eye for a rough diamond?

Personally I feel bother factors have a very important part to play - a comfortable environment in which to perfect your skills is always a help, while Gordon Strachan is, I feel, proving he is extremely capable in both finding and bringing on these rough diamonds.

I've never been anti-Gordon, and do believe in the past three and a half years he more than proved himself worthy of being our manager - and I also hope he continues to be so for a very long time too!

Hoopeddreams

my source tells me that Kugh Heevins was actually "forestounded of ahead" and is even contemplating getting his eyes tested, ears syringed and nose cleared out - he is questioning everything he knew to be true and is overheard at work muttering these words repeatedly

Murphy, Murphy, Murphy..........that damned Murphy.......

I see us Greenock folk are in for a treat tonight, Celtic and Same Difference in town on the same night! Glamour or what?!

Anyone going down to the game tonight?

i wouldn't lose sleep over walters rant last night....that was nothing in comparison to what we had to suffer through extensiongate last season, and that didn't work either. It must be really confusing trying to manage a superiority complex with a lack of success and the notion that everyone is against you.

I think i have an explanation , and it's detailed below. Anyone suffering from this is a DID or if you have it really badly it's Dissociative Identity Disorder Double Yield (DIDDY)

Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), as defined by the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a condition in which a single person displays multiple distinct identities or personalities (known as alter egos or alters)( or could it be walters), each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. The diagnosis requires that at least two personalities routinely take control of the individual's behavior with an associated memory loss that goes beyond normal forgetfulness

Same Difference. Is that the sugary brother and sister that seem uncomfortably close? Feed them to the Catman.

My forecast. Celtic 4 - 0 Same Difference.

Way doon sooth as I am, where scottish football is more of a question than a fact, its funny to watch the 08/09 season unravel on both sides of the Roman wall

Last night a woeful side somehow managed to hold out against one of the league favourites and the press is in uproar about how it could possibly have happened, but enough about Burnley and Chelsea, Up in Gods country the same thing happened, but the press and dare I say the majority of fans werent really surprised by the failure of the FOD, they have consistently proved under Uncle Wattie that they are one trick ponies, give them a couple of goals of a start and they become glasgow galactico's, get in their faces and they want their mammies and retreat faster than an Italian tank.

On the other hand, and as Paul said, WGS has assembelled a squad, a genuine 20+ man first team squad, where competition is genuine for every spot in the outfield and where no matter what combo he plays, he knows the bhoy's will deliver enough to see off most of the scottish league, I'm actually convinced that the Scottish league season is all but over already, provided the FOD dont **ck it up again before Christmas, and that isnt a safe bet, the title will be won in the last game of the year, we will be 7 points clear as a minimum, and Watties retreaters will be planning their summer holidays before the bells.

There's only one wee cloud up there, and thats the gulf between a Scottish Saturday and a European Wednesday, its a gap thats getting wider and if we are to be playing midweek regularly after the turkey's gone cold WGS is going to have to find some real class out there in January to add to his domestically dominating troupe. If he proves himself capable of that then I guess I'll have to concede that he's the best manager we've had since Sir Jock, and I never in a million years thought I'd say that !

Anyway, back to the boring stuff, two team dominance and predictable results, and thats just South of the border

Hail Hail Amis !

Arghh I just read back my post and i used the term O** F***, you'll need to excuse me I'm off to find some sack cloth and ashes. I'll make a donation to a children's charity and say 10 Hail Marys. Please accept my apologies.

Sorry.

I would just like to bring some much needed perspective and clarity to the goal scored by Chris Boyd last night. There can be little doubt it was not offside and should have stood. Anyone can see that. As for the Scot McDonald goal last season? Again Walter was completely justified in his claims last night. SMD was clearly offside. That goal shopuld really have stood.

The goal Rangers will sore next Saturday? Well that should have stood too and how they weren't awarded a penalty in the last minute - next Saturday - that linesman wants his eyes checked.

Walter Smith was of course correct to name and shame the offending linesman who is a complete bollox and a "died in the wool Tim" to boot. Hangings too good for him. Its a good boot up the arse he needs.

Paranoia? C'mon lhads. Lets feed that bear!

"Mitch Mitchell, the last surviving member of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, has died.

The drummer in one of the world's most influential rock bands was found dead in a hotel room in Portland, Oregon in the early hours of Wednesday November 12. He was 61."

The Guardian

Mature. That's a good word to describe this football team.

And the wonder is, the average age is so young. Outside of JVoH, Hartley and Robson, we have an entire squad of early to mid 20's.

Gordon Strachan is creating something here that will develop and grow, and sometime soon, compete on equal terms with some of the wealthier teams in Europe.

Some man that Strachan.

" Is that the sugary brother and sister that seem uncomfortably close?" - Couldn't have put it better myself without breaking blog rules! Very amusing.

Didn't realise they were still getting gigs - a worry.

I'm pleased to see footy getting the bulk of the air time - I've waded (can you 'wade in' in only size 8s?!) into the non-footballing debates too, but once we've been round in circles for the 164th (some Kojo style number crunching) time, it's worth agreeing to disagree and putting things to bed.

Good to see most of us hailing the Chief, and long may things continue in this vein. You know you're on the right track when it's the FOD pulling out the paranoia stuff - ho ho!

EHIY

Haven't had the op to read back so apologies if I am going over old ground.

Last night was a well composed performance. I am enjoying watching the hoops play right now although if I do have a criticism of the overall team performance it is that we could be scoring a lot more freely if we could beat the first defender with our crosses into the box.

I thought Scot McDonald was outstanding last night even without a goal as everything just seemed to stick. Scot Brown too played very well and it's good to see Hinkel approaching the form of an International player. Cillian had another good game scoring 2 fine strikers goals.

I felt last night we could have played backy in as Killie did not threaten.

Maloney has gone of the boil.

Naka needs to beat the first man with his corner kicks as I don't remember one getting passed the first defender last night.

Wilson had a good game as a right footed left back.

Massimo Donatti does not do anything for me. OK he had 2 fine diagonal passes during the game + a fine shot on goal for the lead up to Cillian second but his short passing game is attrociaous and he mainly looks to pass back the way also. 3 times last night he also lost 50/50's due to half hearted tackling.

Good to see Sammy getting a wee run out as well as koki.

They are playing Greenock. Not really a gig.More a visit to outer limits in colour especially if Greenock does the decent thing and supplements the Catman's diet

It would have been great to see them playing the old Victorian Carriage to a Joe Lethal of Chou Pahrot audience (only those with many years will know who I am talking about)

I must admit to being quite surprised at the remarks of the famously dignified Rangers manager last night....he spat out the words "Mr Murphy" with such venom!

As with all things that annoy me about Rangers, I compare the situation to "what would happen if the eqivalent had been done by Celtic"....The press would be calling for charges to be brought for enciting racial hatred!!

Sack cloth and ashes are hard to come by these days, I've had to settle for a black bin liner and and the crumbs at the bottom of a packet of dry roasted peanuts. I've not seen the game yet (apart from the highlights) but the weight of comment seems to be against your view of Donati last night. My own view of him is that he seems to have been coming onto a game of late. Not superstar stuff but as Kojo says - improvement! Seems more aware of the physical side of the game in Scotland and his passing, I would argue, is a bit quicker and aimed forward more than some others.

I also think he suffered (along with Broony) last season by neither really knowing what the other was there for and following on from that, what their own main role was. Neither was a holder or an attacking midfielder - they both seemed to want to do both and sometimes at the same time. To me it didn't work. Now Broony has his tail up - very much the box to box midfielder - leaving Donati (when in the side) to sit back and spray it about. No disrespect but in the middle of the park where the heat of battle rages, the odd pass is always going to go astray.

I was a critic of Donati's last season, but as I've admitted before I'd be delighted to see him prove me wrong - and on the limited evidence I've seen so far, he's getting there...

Sorry, you really need to be from Greenock not to get lost with that one.

I watched the Motherwell game last night (much to the surprise and, I think, disapproval of DBBIA) because the upside of seeing them drop points is better than the downside of seing them pick up points you'd expect them to get anyway. I thought that, although they did have chances to win the game by a few, they did not look much better than Motherwell whose midfield more than held their own. I agree with an earlier poster that Captain Unbookable is a bit of a liability and stultifies their midfield somewhat. Obviously, they will raise their game (and their studs) when we go to Ibrox but I have a good feeling, for the first time in a while, about how we will do there. I know there are a several weeks and games in between but all the better for us to see the return to a full injury free squad.

Sshhhhhhh! Now everybody'll know. :)

Ive been critical of our manager in the past so ''fairs fair''
Ive got to say he has been superb this season.
Even when we lost to Villareal & Manure I thought the tactics were spot on.

Read Bertie Auld's book (true Celtic legend) and he reminds us that Jock hated Rangers and hated (really hated) losing to them.

I dont get the feeling that Strachan hates losing to rankers as much as he should.
Only remaining criticism of Ghord is his poor record against them. Make sure we beat them in the Cup this year Ghordy.

Exiled Hoop In Yorkshire

Ok I will agree that he did manage some sideways passes too. As for spraying them about, no chance. He also tends to get caught on the ball which occurred 3 or 4 times last night. I am sure in Italian footy with plenty of space and time he who would succeed but not in the Scottish game. I can honestly put my hand on my heart and say I have seen him play 3 good games for the hoops, his first against Aberdeen at the Pit, against Parma in a pre-season friendly and against Milan at home last season. The thing that I dislike most about him though is his lack of enthusiasm for a good solid 50/50 challenge. Central mid is not a position we can afford to play Bottlers in.

As with every Celtic player I hope he comes good but I have seen nothing yet that fills me full of confidence with Donati.

Kojo's opinion I generally ignore a I tend to find it difficult to decipher the hieroglyphics.

Hail Hail

Hi there

Long time lurker. I have to agree that the current squad is stronger than I can ever remember. A few years back during the run to Seville the first team may have been stronger but there is no way they could have handled 10 injuries.

That said I'm interested in what is going to happen in January. Not so long ago we were questioning the lack of spend- but now there seem to be players all over the park who will feel aggrieved to be left out. When JVOH is fit will Sheridan get on the bench-- or is JVOH third choice now? Should Caddis not be playing first team football? Whither O'Dea or Mizuno? Do we need to buy in to replace these guys and can we actually buy better players?

For instance do we still need to buy a left-back. Will Mark Wilson be happy to go back to the bench. I see that we are being linked with Zaliuska-- and with Boruc, Brown and the young US keeper Cervi on the books I wonder what the angle is there. Maybe that is just paper talk.

Then there is Nakamura. I reckon this will be his last season-- but is it worth taking a few bob in January and reinvest it in a replacement?

So if we have all this money-- left over from Summer -- where would we spend it?? (Naka flair replacement for me)

Cadizzy

Yeah, it's the same duo who every week I would think 'there's no way they're brother and sister!'. On the back of being a finalist on X-Factor they are playing such exclusive gigs as tonight, switching on the Cristmas Lights in the Oak Mall!

Donati's played some good matches for us, and he was at the top of his game last night, I thought. But you're right about the confidence thing; he hasn't been consistent so you can never tell how he's going to play. Thus I'm always a little wary when he's in the team, but he came good yesterday.

Philvisreturns, well said.

Roccobhoy, good question. Financially, it is easy to see forward for another six or seven years, beyond this, too many things can change.

Malcolm, it’s hard to quantify any single thing as being important towards improved performances, but I hear the training facility being accredited for a lot more work being done after hours.

Kojo, agree, genuine competition for a first team start will always improve a player.

Can you imagine what it would have done for a few egos three or four years ago?

Welcome Malarkey, good to hear from you.

Sir Paul

I feel quite giddy..

That is noo.. Twice, in a Row that ye hiv agreed wit' li'l ole me..

Kojo.

I, as others, expressed a view, prior to last night's game, that donati had shown signs of improvement. as others pointed out, it may be due to settling into the enviornment and language issues that affected him in his first year at the club, but more importantly, no doubt, he had to adapt his own game to the requirements of the SPL and his role in the team.

he has typically played a higher number of 'high-risk' gerard esque passes though he drastically reduced those types of passes based on the 90 mins last night and played more square and backward passes in order to retain possession. i'm sure this has been drilled into his game in training, that this is what he needs to do in order to get back into the first-team.

my view is that when crosas is available it will between the two of them for home games in the spl as to who will partner brown as the manager probably wants more options for forward passes and creativity, thus hartley and robson wil be used for away spl games where it is more of a fight; different player for different type of game.

whatever the criticism of donati, at this point of his development he can offer more creativity than hartley/robson , therefore when celtic are dominating the opposition, which is most home games, it is not essential that we have brown and another ball winner in midfield. I'm not sure whether donati can continue to improve his 'defensive' game and cut out all the mis-placed passes and dips in concentration, though if he could he would be in ahead of hartley-robson and others both home and away, imho.

To No one in Particular...

I thoroughly enjoyed last night's game.

Slowly, but surely...there has been a new outline appearing in the Celtic Tapestry..

I believe is is known as... ENTERTAINMENT.

Paul67 or anyone,

What date is the other AGM to pass the business that wasn't passed at the last AGM the other month??

Its great that we're top of the league and even greater that the fod are now 4 points behind us, but steady guys, Kilmarnock last night ran up the white flag before a ball was kicked, we still had to beat them of course but please bear in mind the fod rattled 4 past them at Rugby Park,

that'll be the same fod that gubbed us 4 - 2 at Parkhead, if we beat them at Ibrox then maybe questions like..... "How long do you believe our current G O D can / Will last?? "....will be more valid, but not now please.

Then we have the European away hoodoo to beat, we have to gub Aalborg if we are to be in Europe past Xmas, if we don't comments like "I sometimes wonder if Gordon Strachan is in fact the best manager we've ever had" will be as rare as rockin horse s##t.

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, just asking for a wee bit of caution please.

Great to hear praises for WGS and the Ghod-Like Caldwell from former doubting Thomases but lets not fool ourselves even though the mineshafters have put down their tools just as sure as a dog will come back to his own vomit the mineshafters would be reaching for their picks and canaries when we inevitably drop some points with cries of 'clueless' 'no tactics' he's a lucky manager and blah, blah, blah... So enjoy the CQN bliss while you can, personally I like a good heated debate on here.

As you know i like Shaun Maloney, but i have to admit he hasn't yet dazzled the way i would have expected. (Falkirk game apart)I reckon GS needs to spend a wee bit time with the wee man to help him recapture the form that brought him player of the year.

Come on Shaun wee man, let' see some of the Maloney of old.

Kojo,

Give him a wee bit longer to prove you wrong.

Agree with most of the posts about last night's game, especially with the points about how Donati played. Thought it was one of his most 'commanding' games for us in that he continually tried to keep the tempo up, kept changing direction of play, especially switching from right to left. Believe me, it is really difficult for defences to keep their shape when the ball is being moved so quickly from flank to flank, it makes it very, very hard for defenders, especially defensive midfielders, to keep tabs on the runners. Have a look at our second and third goals and see just how quickly the ball was moving. Q - Just how was Naka able to get so much space? A - the ball had been switched from side to side quickly, throwing their defenders.

Anyway, my main point. Does anyone else think we might just be seeing the development of a quality, real quality, young striker coming through the ranks? I thought young Cillian had an excelent game, so varied for such a young man. I'm excited anyway.

Congratulations Andreas Hinkel, in the Germany squad to face England. I imagine he has a good opportunity of starting.

Kojo

as a lad I had a band and it was given that name by a more literate friend of mine- any of the above.
I use it now as my moniker.

Anyhoo those such days are behind me.

But there were enough for many a short story.

Even bumped into Mr Jackson on your strip.

Alas like oor Italian Donut the cards kept me from conversation.

I'm afraid I will have to take credit for Donati's much improved form for after the August derby match I did run into him in the Gala Riverboat casino. I had few on me and was cleaning up at the Blackjack table so I went over and shook his hand and said good luck for the season....obviously my good luck transferred over to him and the rest is history.

Everyone..You're welcome.

Calling Mouldy67,

Not seen you on here for a while big man, what you been up to?

Anyway just thought Id let you know that I visited an place that will bring back memories - not that good unfortunately for you or me or the rest of youse that had the misfortune to be there that night many years ago - yes I returned to the scene of our 2nd worst ever Euro result.....Neuchatel!

Am over here on business at a oil refinery nearby and Neuchatel is the largest town close by. It hasnt changed too much Mouldy, still cold and still full of Swiss who speak French. Unfortunately they have long memories too. Was spealking to a waiter in the hotel restaurant who after I stupidly told him that I had been to Neuchatel before and why, took great pleasure in reminding me of Hossan Hussein (or was it Hassan Hossein???).
However his smile slipped somewhat when I reminded him our recent Euro adventures in the Noughties as opposed to Xamax's!!

To be fair their stadium has improved no end. Its now fully covered and seated and has shops and restaurants incorporated into its ground floor. Looks a nice wee ground now, albeit I only saw it from the outside this time!!
In saying that I suppose if any of the 100 or so Xamax fans who came over to Celtic Park previously visited it now, they may notice the odd improvement in Paradise too :-)

Anyway, just thought Id let you know after our wee reminiscence at the Gowf in July.

I would have thought a draw against Aalborg will be enough to put us into the UEFA Cup at least on goal difference. We may also take a point or more from Villarreal while Aalborg will get "gubbed" by Man.U.

Good results on the Title front last night and from what I have read on here great to see the Cardigan already having to resort to denigrating the officials.
Roll on Dec 27th!

A big Well Done must go to both the team and management for the manner of and results in the last few weeks.

Lets keep it going Bhoys.

I didnt see the game last nightv but just caught the goals on CNN there and looks like good finishes esp. the 1st and 3rd.
What a record Naka has of scoring against Killie, wish he could just do likewise against the Orcs. In saying that I will happily settle for another free-kick like last time but this time with the scores reversed!

I say we fine the tube that ran onto the pitch 50,000 Euros. Although there's probably no way the club could do that, apologies but my understanding of such matters is limited.

If anyone is interested go to the last post on Vagaries of Fortune Blog to see a response from Poppy Scotland to a letter I sent them with the "poem" I posted earlier in the same blog that some of you guys liked.

If anyone wants to comment can you do it on that old blog and keep this free for THE FITBA (and maybe what old Whattie said)

re last nights game
thought donatti had one of his best games for us so far .
I have no doubt the guy has ability ,to me it's a confidence thing with him .He played a bad first time pass to wilson right in front of the dugout and WGS tore into him ,he seemed to fall out of the game and into his shell for ten minutes after that.Credit to him though he got back into the game .
Thought koki should have got a bit more time on the park as it was not shauns night. Sheriden make so good runs into the channels .
another win ,gers drop two points ,wee oweny scalped the headhunters ,if carlsberg made midweeks .

Any info on January spending?

Mononame's comments re the linesman last night are a sure sign of an unravelling Cardigan.

I think Donati and Crosas sharing a midfield role will work for us, as neither lad has a 90 minute game yet.

Lamartine,

A fine verse.

A welcome statement from the club. I await a response from the perma- raging Gweedorebhoy and his acolytes.

hunza rugli- I think we should take the fine on the chin, move on and employ better stewarding. UEFA's description- "a pitch invasion"- is a bit over the top though, "intrusion" maybe.

The Token Tim- apart from the utterly shameful naming of the match official, good to see the Loyal Cardigan still thinks the root of his problems lie elsewhere, long may he be dellusional!

On "Murphygate", for the 2nd week in a row Hugh Keevins made a sickening and scurrilous headline on the 8.30am Clyde sports headlines- he opened the bulletin this morning with "A linesman called Murphy denies Rangers 3 points at Fir Park last night". This disgusts me, especially as he is on record saying that he is the recent victim of bigotted hate mail and calls, well Hugh, your style of "reporting" only fertilizes the thuggish behaviour you are trying to wipe from our society. But, something in me thinks you would prefer it this way as it justifies your existence.

Can't help with a copy of the song but here are the lyrics:

WHY WON’T RANGERS SIGN A CATHOLIC?
Who’s that team they call the Celtic?
Who’s that team they all adore?
We’re the Bhoys in emerald green,
F the Polis and the Queen,
And we’re out to show the world what we can
do.

Chorus:
Celtic, Celtic, mighty, mighty, mighty, mighty
Celtic.
Celtic, Celtic, mighty, mighty, mighty , mighty
Celtic.

So bring on your Hearts, your Hibs and
Rangers,
Bring on the Spaniards by the score.
We’ll never give up, we’re gonna win the
European Cup,
We’re the Bhoys, Celtic.

(Chorus)

First team to win the European Cup,
Let’s make it very plain.
We’ve got the players who’ll really set it up,
And we’re going to win it again, and again,
and again…

(Chorus)

So why won’t Rangers sign a Catholic,
You all are a shower of lazy bs
We don’t care about your orange sash,
You can take it and SHOVE IT UP YOU’RE
ass!

(repeat first verse)

Danny, Danny, Danny McGrain, Danny, Danny
McGrain…
Come on, come on, come on, come on,
Come on, come on, come on, CELTIC!

afternoon lads.

I'm a daily lurker, and rarely post. Got an Off topic question for you guys as you tend to have good advice for most things.

This morning when leaving the house, I noticed that our front door had 2 circles drawn with a ball point pen. both the size of a golf ball, and looked to have been done fairly quickly.

I thought nothin of it, mentioned it to my polish Fiance and she said this was a common trick of thieves in poland. They mark your house as such.

Anyone heard of this? should I arm myself?lol

Rangers get fined 18,000€ for sectarian chanting !!

Seems a lot 50,000€ but it doesn´t surprise me. UEFA´s chosen Scottish blue noses are just itching for us to back off and Celtic like the plastic bottle throwing incident at the San Siro will meekly accept their punishment.

Hail Hail

I did not hear Kugh Heevins (copyright Faithfulthru&thru) this morning. If you did, and that's what he said, you could complain to Ofcom. I would suggest a complaint under section 2 "harm and offence". The reference to the linesman's name is completely gratuitous and calculated to expose the individual to humiliation, distress or worse. It would be interesting to see Ofcom's take on this in light of the complete absence of Police action against those spouting the racist abuse of TFS.

The clown who ran on the pitch against the Manc recently has cost us £42,430

Hibs have signed the former Rangers player Jonatan Johansson on a pre contract. He used to be a fairly decent player, and if he hasn't lost too much of his ability he should still be a good player for them.

Kojo, I always do, I just don’t always say!

Gerry, sorry, I didn’t diary the EGM.

Dobbo, I’m really pleased to hear that about Andreas, thanks for the nod.

January spending, we’ll be doing it, possibly alone in Scotland. More when the time is right, it’s still early.

Malcolm, ouch.

It is good to see one of our players in the national squad for a team as good as Germany. More to come hopefully.

Thanks for the jan info, i await with baited breath! Hopefully a couple of players can give us some fresh impetus.

Thomthethim'

It may be a sign of an unraveling cardigan(I like the imagery) but it is more likely in my view a deliberate and calculated attempt to put pressure on officials who, WHEN NOT OFFICIATING AND IN THEIR PRIVATE LIVES, might just favour Celtic over the Charles Mansonites.
To do that is bad enough, but to mention the official's name because it is a name of Irish origin, so as to make his point crystal clear is cynical skullduggery at its basest and most transparent. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter that it is transparent when you are preaching to the converted and attacking those who didn't convert. It is more of a reeling in exercise (orcs and media hook, line and sinker) than an unraveling.

What is more sinister (since you'd expect Smith to fight his corner any way he can) is the fact that Rob McLean was the first to mention the assistant's name....and not for the first time since there was a very similar instance last season. If I have their motives pegged and I believe I do, at least for Smith, they are both guilty of making an assumption(re the name) that has not been a safe one to make for quite some time. See the example forty years ago of a certain Daniel Fergus McGrain. I would mention the ironic example of Darryl Duffy who was on their books, but I would then be guilty of the same assumptions in reverse.

This out of date "your name tells me all I need to know so I don't need to ask what school you went to" approach is a significant indicator that the supremacy/establishment attitude is alive and unwell in Scottish football.

These insecurities are normally marked in some way.Door marked or chalk mark on street outside.Just an Idea!!!!!

I can`t help thinking that if we had beaten them at Parkhead, we would now be 10 points ahead.....in spite of the fact that they have a midfield which we can only envy and TPOTY in Mendes (well, half ayear as he`ll go to Spurs in January).

celtic football club statement

Newsroom Staff
CELTIC Football Club have released a statement following Wednesday night’s game against Kilmarnock at Celtic Park.

“In response to inquiries received by the Club today, Celtic Football Club can confirm that a number of people were ejected from the stadium during last night's match at Celtic Park.

“This was mainly due to the fact that these supporters were in the wrong areas of the stadium and followed numerous complaints from other season ticket holders close by.

“No supporters have been banned. However, each individual will be written to with regards to this issue and be given advice on how to conduct themselves within the stadium in the future.

"These ejections were completely unrelated to last Saturday's match.”

P&B, Big_liam etc. looks like you have been fed a pile of lies. May I ask you if this is a game of chinese whispers or some fans still livid and trying to score unnecessary points over the club ?

Hopefully the manager and scouting system have perused the bosman market and are working in that direction!! Spending money when its no necessary seems a more prudent philosophy given the present climate we are in. 5/6 players should also be offloaded giving a bigger challenge for spots in the 18 matchday squad. Our up and coming youngsters should be farmed out giving them experience of life outwith the lush Lennoxtown confines!!

Agree that we have been playing some decent stuff recently. The problem is that when we have come up against difficult opposition we have failed. I will be very happy as soon as we see improvement against the better teams. We have yet to beat a top side this season.

My first reaction was, to reply you with a few “favours” from the Polish poster.
Never heard about making signs by thieves, on the door in here. I really doubt, if they do any signs, anywhere in the world, before they come to your house.
Your post intrigued me, and I have checked Polish websites to learn if that kind of signs mean anything. Here is, what I have found. These kind of signs are used by diverse canvassers. Polish websites say: most of that signs are made by the roller blind sellers. I don’t know what “your” sign means? In this case, both answers might be good: you have roller blinds, or you don’t have roller blinds. Depending the answer on that question, you may expect somebody who is going to offer you his service, or not. Methings, first circle means: your Polish fiancée is beautiful without make-up. Vandal, is not going to offer: Oriflame, Helena Rubinstein’s products. Second circle means: you already have known Zywiec and Tyskie, and don’t need them to taste and buy from door-to-door salesman.
I'm not sure, if Vandal was Polish!

hi paul. fellow celts.
agree a good display last night . but i am not getting carried away, last night we played a very poor team, like most are in the spl.but we did have a lot of positives. i am also not going overboard regards massimo, yes he had a good game last night, but its when the chips are down and you need all your good players playing and some bottle is required that massimo seems to disappear. we have a 6 pointer coming up in december at their midden , where bottle aplenty will be a must, have we got the men of steel to do battle ,or will our midget gems once again be overawed and overpowered.

without Cousin and Thomson and with Ferguson they are seriously weakened. It´s also January transfer window time. Not too many who want out will be looking to get injured. Celtic have been fined £42,430 by Uefa after a fan ran on to the pitch during last week's Champions League clash with Manchester United at Parkhead.

Part of the fine was imposed for the late start to the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Uefa confirmed that "an appeal may be lodged within three days of receipt of the grounds for the decision" but Celtic have revealed they will not be making any appeal.

A Celtic spokesman said: "We accept the judgement and there will be no appeal."

Re: the e-tims poll on dissatisfaction with the Celtic board.

They have translated the 63% vote in favour of the "lack of ambition" thesis as "damning" of the Celtic Board.

In doing so, they seem to be proceeding on the assumption that the default position is that 50% of satisfied customers is the baseline from which you can measure dissatisfaction.
What if the 37% approval rating that the Celtic Board obtained is actually the highest board approval rating that any board would ever get from any set of fans?

What if all football supporters are in a permanent state of rage that their "sugar daddy" is not as benevolent as club x's sugar daddy. Even where Club X' sugar daddy is a self-destructive megalomaniac with a financial death wish?

I have done no research on my musings but I know enough about attitudinal research to know that seemingly straightforward assumptions can contain several unexamined variables.

Still, we wouldn't want to miss a chance to put the boot in to DD, now would we?

If WGS had tried to imply we were denied a goal, the way Smith has from last night, we'd be angry that he was so delusional and not confronting teh issue of the poor performance. I wasn't really watching their game but had it on. As I went to get something from another room, I heard the commentator say something like 'Boyd! Oh,he's called offside'. I heard the whistle, saw him put the ball into the net and went on my way. It seemed such a non-event that I had completely forgotten all about it until I saw the news this morning. The man must have really lost the plot. As others have said, Boyd should really have been booked.
From what I saw, not much, Davis did well (I think he's their best player and seems to conduct himself a bit better than the rest.) I cannot believe we were going to offer 4 million for Lafferty at one stage, though. I was waiting on Malcolm to screw up but he didn't. The other thing that was odd was that despite a stretcher being brought on for Papac - there were only 2 minutes stoppage time rather than the usual 20. The Motherwell penalty incident was one of those that aren't usually given, to be honest and I don't think Sutton would have scored from the chance anyway (I don't mean the penalty).
As I've said before, if I was Smith, i would have complained more about Killie sending out such a supposedly weakened team. I think we would have been incandescent had he done that aginst TFOD.

My dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,friend.. Mncelt.

Thanks for that piece of info.

I am still convinced that the person who trespassed onto the pitch, is NOT... A CELTIC FAN.

I wonder if we shall evah find out the truth?

Kojo
yer pal who likes ye.

Rangers got fined 9,000 pounds for sectarian chanting and smashing the Player bus at Villareal in 2006. When they appealed it was increased to 13,000 pounds.

We get fined 42,500 pounds which is almost five times the amount that Rangers were initially fined for their behaviour in Villareal. This is why I keep telling Auldheid that he has no hope in Getting UEFA on the decent mans side. Too corrupt by far.

Roll on the new franchise ... wherever it may be

Absolutely delighted with recent events onfield.

In the midst of an unprecedented run of injuries with the equivalent of a whole team out, and in the midst of a Champions League campaign, we have taken 7 points out of the FOD in the space of 9 league games, all won.

Onwards to 4IAR and the rest.............

The Real Radio clown has just described the Secretary of State for Scotland as Tom Murphy.

I wonder if we all look alike to him.

I was only listening to hear Craggy island's contribution and see if he gets another red card. He's doing ok. Sounds sensible when he does not have a referee in front of him :-)

what did craggy say?

Suggest the severity of the UEFA fine is due to the fact that we were on "suspended sentence" after the Dida incident.

setting free the bears - I'm constantly impressed by the financial acumen of Celtic supporters who know better about issues of finance and running a plc than billionaire Dermot Desmond does.

It's sort of like how the people who really know how the country should be run are sadly too busy driving taxis to put their ideas into practice. :)

Celtic, meanwhile, have been fined €35,760 (CHF60,000) after being found guilty of a lack of organisation and improper conduct by supporters at the match (Articles 6 and 11c of the UEFA disciplinary regulations). Half of this amount is deferred for a probational period of two years. This means that Celtic pay a €17,847 fine now, and if a similar offence is committed over the next two years, the other half will be added on for the new infringement.

How many years did the last clown get ?

SFTB....the guy you refer to (who I honestly don't know) was the bassist in Department S.He might have been called Vic, for all I know. The guy I did know (from Cawdor Crescent in Greenock) was the lead guitarist of said Souixie etc, the late Ian(John) McGeogh who was also involved with Panache I think.

do you remember a band (a bit SAHB like)who had 2 absolutely stand out songs. One about a Roman centurion who wanted to be a charioteer...the chorus was "scabby face scabby face Louie the Leper" The other song was called "Val Doonican was a heavy but only in his mind" A strange band but great fun. They used to play in the Locker as well and start off by slagging Henry Gorman every time..which was a bit brave there.

Were you at Parkhead last night?

Carrington even went so far to say that if the blighter should ever darken the door of his country estate, he wouldn't hesitate to tell his footman to blacken Smith's eye and punch a hole in his top hat, before taking soot from the grating and wiping it all over his lapels, and then administering the coup de grace of grinding his monocle underheel while cursing him as a whelp, a knave, and a possible Frenchman.

I said steady on, old boy, isn't that a bit over the top, but Carrington was not to be dissuaded.

Thanks Craggy Island GAA. Nice one.

this is the 1st time i have managed to get on the net since last night.

anyway last night 1 Green Brigade member had his season book taken off him by the celtic stewards for allegedly selling GB merchandise OUTSIDE celtic park. he was told that he had broke ground regulatuions. ground regulations actually state that you are not allowed to sell anything INSIDE the stadium. rather than argue with the 3 celtic stewards and 3 police officers who surrounded him and his 7 year old son , the GB member handed over his season book to avoid causing his son any further distress. this all took place at the Lisbon Lions end of the stadium where there are the big iron gates at janefield street (some of you may even have noticed this). when the GB member asked if this was payback for saturdays peaceful protest , he was told it was.

A 2nd Green Brigade member had his book taken from inside the stadium before the game had started and even before he had made his way to his seat. he was told by celtic stewards that he was getting banned as he had attended saturdays protest and the club deemed it unacceptable behaviour.

both GB members were in there mid 30's and mid 20's respectively.

i have seen celtics statement issued this afternoon that no one has been banned, and no doubt both GB members await word from celtic on what is to happen next with their own season cards.

inside the stadium at 111/112 the stewards and police were checking loads of peoples tickets to make sure that they were in the right seats. as i have said before we have continually said on our own forum that no one should come to the 111/112 area unless they have tickets for that area. we have received great support from the celtic fans in that area over the past 2 seasons and the last thing we want is for them to be caused any distress.

Good evening Mr Paul67, have you the beginnings of a new beard yet sir? On the subject of january acqusitions. Have the club lined up any beard wearing warriors? or maybe a goatee wearing guardsman, a moustacheiod marvel or heaven forbid a hairless hummer

I was almost thwarted by Ewan Cameron reading out 2 emails on my specific point about play having stopped immediately before I went on!!! Had to think fast, which is a challenge for me at the best of times.

Also made the point that Smith and Rearrangers are looking down the barrel of 4iar and maybe this has sparked the conspiracies being spouted by them at the moment. Lack of success in the park usually leads to blaming SOMEONE, and thats what they're doing.

Manthatfeltgood csc

Wonderbeard King of the Beards - do you lead an army of Hawkmen?

Jimtim, aye, but you can only play the team in front of you.

Jinkysboy, no chance of it getting passed on to the security company. If their Ts&Cs exposed them to this the contract would cost four times as much, the staff would be paid a lot more and would probably be armed with tazers.

Amaca, feed the psychosis, it is a sure way to failure.

Wonderbeard King of the Beards, sorry, no, there is no noticeable growth. Not tellin’ about the January targets.

We then went onto win our 4th title and to top that we pumped them 4-0 in Scottish Cup Final!

Are you mocking me, Sir?
Do you find my writing style risibly florid?

Wait till the boys from Govan see this............... just as well he's not a Republican as well ....... :-P

The not-so-secret code names used by the US Secret Service for the president-elect and his family have been published.

Barack Obama is called Renegade, while his wife Michelle is Renaissance, and their daughters Rosebud and Radiance.

They will replace Trailblazer (President George W Bush) and his wife Tempo in the White House on 20 January.

The names are chosen to be easily pronounced and understood when agents use radio communications.

A list of names starting with R was drawn up by the White House Communications Agency, a branch of the military that serves the White House and Secret Service.

When 19-year-old Karenna Gore's father became vice-president in 1993 she had to choose her own name.

In 1997, she wrote: "Ever since four years ago, when I was put on the spot and told 'two syllables' and 'It has to start with an s,' I have been cringing in the back seat when identified as 'Smurfette'."

Al Gore frequently told people his code name was Al Gore because he was so boring. However, the Washington Post reported that he was initially called Sawhorse but eventually became Sundance for unknown reasons.

Vice-President-elect Joe Biden is known as Celtic.

The outgoing president retains his code name as he and his family will continue to have Secret Service protection.

"There's nothing top secret about them," Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren told Associated Press.

"It has no operational security significance any more because of encrypted communication capabilities."

The code names have "nothing to do with security" and more to do with ease in radio communication for those agents whispering into microphones up their sleeves.

The defeated Republican presidential candidate John McCain, a senator from Arizona, is Phoenix, while his wife Cindy is Parasol.

His running mate, Sarah Palin, was Denali - the name of national park in her home state of Alaska, and the natural gas pipeline project there.

Her husband, Todd, the North Slope oil worker, was Driller.

Previous code names have included: Passkey for President Gerald Ford; Rawhide for President Ronald Reagan; Deacon for President Jimmy Carter; and Angler for Vice-President Dick Cheney.

Can I just add, I have no problems with the Charity canvassers.

But the same guy asking me to sign up every day at lunch I do have a problem with. Especially when I sgned up the first day!

i posted on the green brigade forum last friday night, a short post to say that their planned protest was not in the interests of celtic, but by all means hand out leaflets to make people aware of your grievances against the poppy thing, but let the rest of celtic fans respect their family members that made the sacrifice in the great wars.

next morning i had been banned from their forum!

the hypocrisy of it all...freedom of speech, rights to protest, the board are trying to control the supporters (and protect the good name of the club)....and yet on the other hand, post anything that we don't agree with on our forum and you're banned.....

ironic

Is that the same Carrington chappie who lost South Georgia and the Falklands to that blagard Galtieri that enabled a popular invasion that kept the blasted Margaret in power?

PEDANT ALERT.

It was actually Mandy Rice Davies in the Profumo Case who uttered the immortal phrase.

Big Joe! Good to see you back, hope you are well.

Cadizzy,

Your commentary on the venerated Walter and his 5,000 years of dignity - absolutely bang on. The unspoken inferences directed at Mr Murphy may well have repercussions for the linesman at a personal level. And, as you allude to, other officials may think twice in future about making decisions which may offend Mr Dignity.

On an un-related issue - young Sheridan came in for a fair amount of stick on Saturday last. Surely that kind of barracking does nothing for a youngster's confidence. Sheridan is by no means the only player to be targeted by the boo-men. Telfer, Caldwell, McManus, Lennon, Petta etc have all suffered at one time or another.

Personally, I think that kind of virulent abuse of our players is a fairly recent and an un-Celtic development. And I don't buy the argument that having paid for a seat gives its occupant the right to howl abuse for 90 minutes.

STALEMATE AT FIR PARK - Motherwell 0 Rangers 0

Rangers fell further behind in the title race as the game at Fir Park, Motherwell ended in a goalless draw.

Attendance 9,600

The night was however marred by a shocking assault on Sasa Papac by Motherwell's Chris Porter that was totally ignored by the referee. Porter clearly and viciously elbowed Papac in the face. The Ranger was stretchered off, but his assailant got off scot-free.

Boyd raced through to net in 68 minutes, but was denied by an offside flag from linesman Tom Murphy. It will surprise no-one that in fact the Ranger was ONSIDE

Two minutes later Steve Conroy must have been the only one inside Fir Park not to see Porter's sickening assault on Papac from a 'Well corner. That no red card was produced said it all about this referee who once upon a time had a picture of the Lisbon Lions adorning the walls of his surgery. To add insult to injury, he added a meagre two minutes of injury time despite the time lost during this incident - there should surely have been at least five.

he he he he he he he.

And Even Scarier !

The Fact that you were banned is perfectly in keeping with the ethics that that organisation espouses.

I called it right, when I referred to them as Bigots.

Howevahhhhhhh...

I also said the peculiar thing about being a Bigot is ..that a Bigot seldom knows that he is one..

The Dictionary definition of a Bigot:

One who is Utterly intolerant of the Creed,Belief or OPINION of another.

The fact that you were banned, fits right in with that definition..

Is that not so?

Sure it is.

In fact I shall go further and say that that Orginization is doing its darnest to involve the good Name of Celtic in furthering its...

POLITICAL BENT.

I have no pity concerning the dire ramifications that will follow those Members in punishment, because of their insistence in following their Political Programme.

It is because of their own actions they have drawn attention to not only themselves, but in the processs, have managed to do irreparable damage to the good name of Celtic.

Frankly, I have had all I am willing to take from Groups who are intent in Mixing Politics and and the settling of old Sores and Scores with their supposed interest in following the Celtic...and, may I add... at the expense of interfering with my quiet contentment, in following the Team of my Choice.

I wish they would cease and desist in persuing their political singing and such nonsense, that the normal Celtic Fan has not the slightest of interests.

Kojo.
yer pal...who understands too weel whit you were up agin.

Pablo

Luck - no. Just fanatastic judgement

st stivs fp

That's an amazing report of the incident in last nights game. A blind man could have seen that it was Kirk Broadfoot that lunges into Papacs back, pushing him forward into the forward, and in doing so caught his elbow plum with his face. Do they think noone else saw it, absolute nonsense.

Good to see the Club has clarified what action was taken last night. I had only got a call from my brother who had noticed it reported on other sites. I can say that I while I didn't write to or contact the Club it does show that there were many others like me annoyed by what was going on, not at the Green Brigade themselves, just at the hammered teenagers who would invade from other areas.

Cadizzy, you missed yourself big time earlier, that Same difference fair put on a show! To be honest though, they do seem to have a connection with the kids, I'm surprised they don't have a show on kids TV. They will be on X-Factor again in two weeks though!

Film 4 now a film for all Celtic men

The Wind That Shakes The Barley.

Part of our history..........

BB

I cannot believe that these Follow Follow chaps can expect anyone to believe their version of events.....We all know that there was 3 minutes of injury time added on and not 2 !!!!! and that felt like 3 hours as it always does.

26 players have played competitive games for the hoops this season so far, and none of them has less than pass marks on average IMO

Boruc, Brown,
Caddis, Wilson, Naylor, and Hinkel,
Loovens, Mick, Caldwell, O'Dea,
McGeady, Naka, Koki, Maloney, McCourt,
Brown, Hartley, Crosas, Robson, Donati,
Hesselink, Samras, Mcdonald, Sheriden, Killen, Hutchinson

That re enforces Paul 67's piece pretty well, and probably shows how Celtic has planned, and coped with early set backs, Euro games, busy schedules, and big injury challenges.

Maybe time to say 'good job' to the manager.

Pablo

I have come onto this blog to try and give some insight as from reading various posts over the past number of weeks there seems to be some confusion as to who, what the Green Brigade are. if this is ok with paul i will continue to do so.

Following celtics statement earlier today, it is clear that their statement is backtracking on what was said last night by the celtic strewards who are high in the chain of command. it will be intersting to see how things pan out.

Henry Gorman Band, that brings back a few memories.
I used to go and see them in the Heathery Bar years ago.
I thought he was excellent.
Someone the other day mentioned Jamie Barnes, he was one of my favourite singers, he used to play with his band Hammer at the Heathery as well.
Does anyone remember a band called Paris who won the sunday mail band of the year.

Evening all - I haven't been on for the last two days so it will take me a little while to catch up on all the posts.

Another great victory last night and competition is the key.

I remember not long ago people questioning paying a few million for players to sit on the bench....Loovens was one.

How different now...this is one of the best footballing squads we have had in a long time and the nine in a row is proof.

What about young Sheridan....do TFOD have anything near to him breaking through?...no don't think so.

Does anyone else think St Mirren can take points of the rearrangers this week...I do..any team in the league can take points off them.

Paul67:

Would you now agree that the domestic treble is well in our sight?

optimistic little soldier 7.39pm:

Great little song for Celtic Park...would really boost the Irish bhoys and the FOD would hate it.

Martin 47, what about Dom Sullivan, or Tommy Callaghan, I recall them getting some mixed ‘feedback’?

Big Joe, we’ve played that lot so often in recent weeks that is an easy mistake to make.

Burnley’78, 26 players, did you know we only played a total of 44 players during the 9-in-a-row years, and Jackie McNamara only played one game of that lot.

UTLR, go for it.

Is my memory failing or is the guy who now owes us £40k for a Uefa fine not called Murphy?

Is he the son of Tom? Is this a conspiracy or a very strange co-incidence?

The peepil must know!

UTLR

I would love to know more about the Green Brigade, and what they are really all about.

For me it is all about the greater good of Celtic, and my sense is the folks running the club do well by that. That does not mean there are no other views, and there are indeed many ways to 'skin the cat'. Some folks on here are strategists and have long term agendas, and long term thinking, others only see the short term, and live for the 'now'. Some (though not too many) seek personal gain or glory from the association, some are also angry, and sadly (to me) use Celtic to vent their anti authoritarian views. Celtic is a broad church, and is many things to many of us, it struggles be all things to everybody, just as the US president elect is about to find out.....that is a really difficult trick to pull off.

Re Poppygate

Some folks I know made their quiet protests against forced issue poppy wearing in a less offensive manner than others appear to have. It did not mean they were 'caving in' to the establishment. They registered their concerns with the current 'custodians'of Celtic, who acknowledged them, recognised them better than you might think, and dealt with their own difficult situation in the best way they thought possible, for the best outcome for the club at this time.

H...............ooooooooops I did it again.

I have no probs with the walkout either. I would not have done it but its every fans choice to stay or go. Would not condone the Novo song - whats your thoughts on that song?

The walkout makes me wonder how the board would view the "upstarts" who protested against the kellys and the whites and the wee upstart Fergus who gave the current board the opportunity for their present roles.

Thanks for explaining the Green Brigade position the other night. As I've said before my problem was never with you guys, just the problem with people coming over from other areas, which as you've explained you actively discourage.

Keep adding the noise and colour around our area and I've said before I don't mind helping you guys out with any displays. I sit in 111, Row SS and am usually in early with two boys. Would be good to meet you.

Classic about the blind guy. This is no word of a lie, I had a guy in the taxi one night about a year ago who was blind and had a guide dog. He wants to go to Sharp Street in Gourock but I make the mistake of turning into Steel Street, which is almost directly across from Sharp St off Cardwell Road. I near crashed the motor when he said 'Are you as blind as me? You're going the wrong way!'

Not been on much today, so just catching up.

Good to see a feelgood factor back on the site - 4 points clear will do that I suppose. Nine wins in a row is a great response after that loss, especially given the injuries we have had.

They must be really worried - knowing that we can only get stringer from here!

Paul 67

That is a really amazing stat, 44 players in 9 in a row, and probably all Scots too ! Not that that is in any way relevent.

Mind you we rapidly lowered the bar with dear old Willie Garner, Joe Fillipi, John Dowie, Frank Munro et al over the next 5 years including my beloved Burnley 78 side !!

I thoroughly enjoyed the game last night and if Brooney continues his fine form of late then I will have to eat a huge Humble Pie and take it on the chin.I do hope he can now add goals to his improved game.

Throughout our injuries the media have waited to see us falter it must be grating that we have played fast flowing football and have been rattling in the goals.Congratulations to all at Celtic for this highly impressive run.Not forgetting the energy, mind sapping game versus Manchester.

I believe everyone has a right to protest-- but the right to protest is not the right to protest anywhere and anytime you like. Context is key.

Maybe 90% of supporters probably think the Iraq war is a big mistake. Most however do not think it appropriate to protest this either inside Celtic Park or during a ceremony to commemorate the war dead.

This is the same difference between the right to roam wherever you like and the right to March an Orange parade through Catholic neighbourhoods.

Yes I recall our discussion very well, your wee story brings back memories...Since going to the away games in Europe back around 91/92 time strange thing is that i had not managed to shake the bad luck off and see too many wins.

I think the current board are in a more directly accountable position than any before. They know they are in a consumer facing business running a model which would simply not allow the position to deteriorate in the way the old board did.

'Managing' such situations is a way of life for the current custodians I reckon.

The position back then was quite different. They were clinging to power, and not run as a proper business enterprise.

Anyway - I should not even post on this as Im not getting into it all again

Due to what was going on in Scott's life at the time, I think his disposition here tells it's own story, if he could be so jocular then, what must he be like now ? Once that tragic chapter in his life had passed, he has been able to express himself in footballing terms and IMHO, the sky's the limit for this young Mhan and I hope we see many of them in the Hoops.

o1bhoy - where the heck are you !!!!!!!!!!!!

Big Jose - you back in the gym friday then. I assume the weather is fine in Espana (psn down here)

were Andy Lynch and Packie split at birth ?

thot you'd all be interested to see this Rangers fans response to an article from gersnet online (Rangers FC - A house of cards). They are feeling the pressure big time!!

Its too late for panicking, we need action, the time to panic was Kaunas, were
way past that, Dundee Utd, St Mirren, Motherwell, Walters time is up....SDM time
was up long ago, but i agree he cant go without knowing whos coming in, thats
fine, but Walter "no tactics or vision" Smith must go....this is
depressing, he has built a poor squad, spent millions and we still cant beat
provincial clubs.
Celtic have loads of injuries, play there "squad"
players and still hump whoever is put in front of them and they played the best
team in the world twice between staying top of SPL, their squad is not that
great either but its better than ours. Not happy. 1 too many mistakes someone
said, i think its more than 1 too many mistakes.POOR POOR POOR Deja Vu Who is
going to help us, we as fans cant score the goals or captain the side or keep
out goals, we need bottle, we need class, we need better players.

WDH, was that for me ? If it was, you've lost me there mate !

Bowfieldbhoy,

Watching The Wind That Shakes The Barley,

Great film saw it a few years ago and am enjoying it again.

I, as a young boy, had the misfortune to know a Black and Tan very well, in those days I did not realise just what they were or what they actually did, but he often boasted about being one.

Cheers,

Martin.

Greenlion2,

Thanks, will be in touch soon,

hi paul. im not bothered just about the team in front of us, im also including facing the mongol hordes, gone are the days when we faced them at ibrox with the likes of murdoch, gemmell, big billy, hay, auld, aitken, bobo, sutton, men of steel, men who filled the jersey more on occasions like this . ive never missed a game at the midden in over 40 years, but i now see players who are overawed at the challenge .overawed with the venue, and overawed with the venom spouting from the masses, bricking it is how i think its described now a days . oh how i would love to see gs deliver a presence in our team, a midfield bobo , a peak roy keane ,a present day davy hay,( you my friend wont have much if any recollection of davy hay .ask the old timers , the silent assassin was the best. i have no doubt we have the classy players , but they most certainly have the thugs to scare our tanner baw players .and that is how watty will set his stall out .

Now, now fholks, all poppies aside, a shocking result for the Well dropping 2 points agin 'the mighty inconsistent'.

Was very pleased with our performance. Dominated possession and did something with it. Good goals; well played 'wee Cillian' and Skippy and nice finish Naka. Nice to see Massimo back in the groove and great to have clear green water - long may it feature.

Ramie - Kingoh

Just about to hit the hay and thinking of Kano - any news and please let it be good

Also I was watching the screens at CP at the weekend and think it would be a tribute to Kano if we could get his picture and best wishes on the screen at half time from all at CQN

Anyone know how we arrange this and could ramie or kingoh supply a photo. If there is a cost involved I dont mind paying it

As always Kano is in my thoughts and prayers

keep the faith

Thanks for sharing that with us and long may you keep up the good work.

Now,as long as none of those young bhoys is called Rafael -please feel free to send anyone of them our way as soon as they make the grade!!

That would be great - even if you could steer me to some info on sites so I can read up on it. I have did a wee overview years ago at Uni bit have not worked with any.

The job is in the food industry as engineering manager and this is my weak topic on the criteria.

I posted my e mail at 10.06.

Thanks again

pablophanque - it was indeed, its been my ringtone for as long as i can remember. and it really was sensational!

Jinkysbhoy,

I am just great, thanks for asking.

Yes I am still happy about all our performances of late.

I do not share Jimtim's pessamism about our meeting on 27th.

I see a team on the field who just sweep all ahead of them.

We swept Hearts aside with complete ease, but some people would have us believe that this is the worst Hearts team for 100 years.

The team took the best that Motherwell could offer and then brushed them aside.

In two games against Kilmarnock we did lose a goal, I must admit but in 180 minutes of football they threatened us but once.

I cannot really see us drop a single point between now ond the end of the year.

Can anyone say that about our closest rivals.

We are stronger now than we have been since 2003/04/05.

Long may it continue.

Jinkysboy lets,

STAND UP FOR THE CHAMPIONS.

Martin.

jb, one of the best shouts I've ever read on CQN, let's make it happen.

pablophanque

jimtim...

imho the following all deliver (some degree) of the presence you require. Artur, Mick, Ghary, Robson, Broony, JVoH and Skippy. Don't think any of the above have ever been overawed or brickin it.
Let's give them credit.

Hail Hail
Jamiebhoy

Cheers jinkysboy

marsh_cfc you take them mate,

FIAR.

Last season I was seriously disgruntled about the ever presence of Gary Caldwell, despite multiple errors, and the ever presence of Scott Brown, despite some really ineffective performances.

Broonie getting suspended won us the league last season (or rather Barry Robson's inclusion in central midfield as a result).

Having said that....

Appraising this season so far I would state without hesitation that both Caldwell and Brown have been consistently our best performers.

Both have been superb. Long may it continue. Criticism last year was deserved. Praise this season is even more deserved.

Gary Caldwell has been immense throughout 2008.

Scott Brown looks like he belongs at Celtic Park. He could become another on the list of Murdoch, Auld and Hay - Celtic midfielders who ran the show, had a bit of steel about them and who became everlasting heros.

Martin, isn't it funny how every team that we beat regularly are the worst of those teams for "X" years !!!???

BTW, no need to answer mate :o)

pablophanque

Martin 42

Fantastic portrayal of what life was like for so many of our forefathers.

These were the brothers and cousins of the men who built our club and made us who we are today.

BB

I kind of agree about the lack of presence, we do have some players who possess a certain amount, the likes of JVOH, Robson Boruc do. But I know what you mean a player that they fear on their on patch like a Sutton or a Mjallby, still remember when Ricksen pushed big Johan into the net, then Mjallby appeared out of no where lunging at the wee nyaff!

Martin42

Agree 100% - someone called us the Mean Machine last night - I had a tee shirt back in the late 80s with The Green Machine on it - I think we are now indeed

No fear in the team - I must say they now look a confident assured team - havent saw that in the time WGS has been here. I am chuffed to bits with them. The whole team and staff deserve credit.

My concern is that 27.12 is too far away. How I'd love to play em tomorrow.

patienceisavirtuecsc

It's not about the team having no fear, because they defo looked assured and confident, especailly for having so many key players out. This is not to say im not extremely happy with the team, because a nine game run undefeated is good, but with our injury list, its marvelous!!! I personally just feel we are missing one or two small things to take this team from being good to being VERY good, and one of those is a player with a huge presence, the last one i feel we had was BBJ.

Burnley'78, the game has changed so much since then, but think of this, if those who ran clubs then, knew what we know now about how to run a football club, they would have an enormous competitive advantage.

Scouting, when it’s right to sell, when to buy, squad development, etc.

Strategy is all.

Welcome thatissensational!, good to hear from you.

Jimtim, agree we have a few issues to take care of at Ibrox, but that’s what next month is for.

Pablo

Just checked the CFC media and its a pittance to get Kano on the screen and all I have to do is e mail the photo to the address they supply and Roberts your fathers brother

So hopefully the Oz Bros can send me a photo in the next week - preferably in the hoops. Any suggestions for the text will be welcome or let his two pals decide on that

I mailed a mad photo of Kano to some CQN guys earlier in the week, but I don't think we could use it for the big sensitive screens at CP!

TTTT

Pablo/jinkbhoy

I don't think Ramie has access to an online PC during working hours. (don't know about Kingoh)

Ramie phoned last night with a wee update.

He said that Martin was much the same, still unable to communicate, but he does appear to have a small increase in the ability to move his facial muscles.

Ramie told him the Kilmarnock score and Martin reacted, he then told him the Motherwell score and Martin reacted more.

Ramie is of the impression that Martin is becoming a little frustrated with his illness, obviously understandable.

Ramie reads or relates all your best wishes to Martin and Ramie is sure Martin appreciates them all. I know Ramie is taken aback by the number of well-wishers.

Martin is a fighter and I look forward to the day he returns to give his thoughts in his own unique way.

10m, maybe so, but we can dream can't we . . . also makes you think about how much Henke would have been worth . . . scary amounts!

Bl**dy Hell!

I have just read an article online written by Ewing Grahame (not a man with Celtic in his heart) interviewing Graham Roberts (not a man with Celtic in his heart either)!

He is calling for NEUTRAL REFEREES to be in charge of Glasgow Derby games!!!!

References throughout to Walter of Surnameless Street's comment last night about "Thomas Murphy".

It's amazing what one statement from Sir Walter of Dignity Street can create with a willing press.

I've been wanting that for decades, decades of non-Irish names in charge of Glasgow Derbies, decades of shockingly biased decisions against Celtic, decades of nobody entertaining any suggestion of bias in officials.

We now have one Irish name running the line and one statement from Walter of Tactician Boulavard and the tables are turning. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing when he named Mr Murphy in his post match interview.

Can you imagine if an Irish name like Conroy, Tumilty or Murphy were ever to get the Glasgow Derby and made a wrong call in Celtic's favour?

Or Heaven forbid, an RC priest by the name of O'Curry.

Faeces Faeces would go into serious meltdown.

U2 1888

Burnley 78, some would say, was one of the real low points in our history both on and off the park.

After a 3-1 home win v Rangers we then lost to 2nd division burnley over 2 legs in the anglo scottish cup.

I've mentioned this a few times, about the uproar that would ensue if a RC priest controlled an O** F*** game, that mob would be shown up for what they really are more than usual. Lets be honest here that would take some doing because they are a disgrace!

Kitalba

Thanks for the news which is (I think) good. Any progress must be good and it makes me smile to think of him reacting to the scores.

God loves a fighter and he sounds like he is that and more.

If they can get me a photo over Im sure he would love to know he was on the screen with the CQNers best wishes.

Keep the faith

Did I miss something or is there misinformation ciculating amoung the world wide press regarding fans invading the pitch at full time?

I thought it was one misguided bloke only?

HEADLINE READS: Celtic fined for fans' bad behaviour

From correspondents in Paris, France
November 14, 2008

SCOTTISH giants Celtic have been fined 50,000 ($A98,029) by European football's governing body UEFA for bad behaviour by their supporters in their Champions League match against Manchester United.

The match had to kick off late and spectators invaded the pitch at the end of the 1-1 Group E draw at Old Trafford on November 5.

"The UEFA disciplinary commission has punished the pitch invasion by Scottish fans at the final whistle," UEFA said in a statement.

Celtic said they "accepted the verdict" and would not be appealing.

'Amongst' DAMN my illiteracy

Re: Burnley

Anyone got the team for 1st leg away??

I imagine it would be similar to the 11 with which we beat the FOD 3-1 the previous Saturday - a filthy wet day I recall - as follows:

Latchford, Filippi, Lynch, Aitken, McDonald, Glavin, Doyle, Conroy, McAdam, Burns, McCluskey.

Scorers were McAdam 2 and McCluskey.

D Provan arrived at the end of the September, M Macleod in the November, and effectively new signing D McGrain returned in March from 18 months injury

jinkysboy

you have mail

Folks

A wee favour to save me time checking back. Did someone maybe between Saturdy and Wednesday this week (but maybe a bit earlier) not post something about complaining to Celtic about "invaders" (my term) in the 111 area of CP?

I seem to remember polite posts on the subject which tends to support the official Celtic statement on why they were busy in that area on Wednesday night.

was just thinking about how Gary Caldwell has been playing at a level this season that surpasses last year on all possible metrics.

His passing has improved, his defensive awareness is better and it seems to me that his presence on the pitch is more dramatic than it has been previously.

Does anyone see anything different to just a young player getting better with experience, that may have contributed to this?

kitalba

i have been off the blog by and large for over a week now

as i was skimmimg thro i noticed some disturbibg ref to Kano

my questions were answered somewhat in your post this evening ...i was quite shocked

i had the pleasure of a wee cyber chat with him a few weeks ago ..very enjoyable and conducted in his own inimitable fashion

i am aware you know him ...if you feel able could you advise me how he is , prognoscis etc ..or direct me to the appropriate timeline on the blog
cheers PF

auldheid

porridgeandbananas has been complaining about it ...he stated that the area had been attracting some bad elememnt who were congrogating there and disturbing the people who have had seats in that area ...many for some years

PF ayr:

Apologies for such a delay in getting back to you, work got in the way of all things Celtic. I know, brown stuff happens.

Regards Kano, mate, Martin is in the ICU of the Royal Perth Hospital. He is not very well at all.

I feel a bit awkward discussing Kano on a public forum other than to say what Ramie is happy to be posted.

If you look back up the blog you will see Ramie’s e-mail address and again, I know, that any e-mail that you’d send him will be well received.

Kingoh, is very close to Martin too, but I don’t have his contact details.

Paul has my e-mail address if you want to contact me directly.

PF , kitalba , all

firstly , with regards to Martin i wish him all the best as i would any1 in the worldwide celtic family in times of distress. i realise this is a celtic forum not a general one though but its late an no busy eh.

Anyway , my comment here is mainly through intreuge (spell checks no workin !!!! ) and a bit of optimism.

Can anyone tell me exactly what happened regarding the carry on with people being thrown out on Wednesday. I could maybe piece it together by trawling through the posts but time is against me.

While i'm on i'd just like to express my happieness at all things celtic at the moment. WGS seems to have everything in order on the domestic front and its great to see us performing so well with so many big guns out. All players , whatever age or experience should be made aware of what is expected of them whenever they pull on the hoops or enter the training field as member of the celtic squad. I wonder just how much influence my hero and our fearless and tremendous former captain Niel Lennon is having there.

hail hail
Brother Johnbhoy

johnbhoy69:

Cannot tell you what happened the other night, because I just don't know. You could check out the official Celtic site since they have an official statement on there.

There are conflicting reports by others, but whether what they say was a direct repercussion of a directive from Celtic or just unilateral overzealousness by stewards, time will tell.

I’m hoping (if issues did arise) it was the latter.

apologies PF ayr:

This is Ramie's original post.

ramie on November 5, 2008 12:44 AM

kitalba ,

thanks for replying , i did check the official site and all it said was that a minority of "supporters" were ejected for being in the wrong area of the ground and had indeed been reporet by other season ticket holders. It just seems so strange to me. The last game i was at was the 4 - 2 victory over Hibs where i got into a lengthy conversation with a steward. I liked the guy and he helped me that day because it was the first time i had taken my 5 year old son to paradise and having had a few beers on the train down to glasgow my bladder was working OT ! It can be a hassle taking Joseph with me to the toilet as alone i could go quickly and miss as little as poss of whats happening on the pitch. I found out though that the steward was in fact a Rangers supporter and also worked at the fortress of darkness and his employer was group 4 security. That may not be news to anybody but i found it astonishing and wonder why Celtic cant employ their own stewards who would all be celtic supporters and would have our clubs intrests at heart. While i would never personally work at Ipox in any cappacity , if i was doing the job , it wouldnt really bother me if any of their rabble chose to discrace their own club by running onto the pitch and i certainly wouldnt go out my way to stop them.
If people are getting thrown out of our ground though , and we are having issues such as arseholes invading the pitch and essentially beginning to drag our name through the gutter , maybe we should be questioning the stewarding situation and getting it sorted before anything more serious happens.
The likes of Bill Leckie who loves to hate the OF and was clearly raging and probs still is , that we won the fair play award by uefa in seville , would take great pleasure in giving whoever would listen a character assasination of our support. Lets not encourage that.
Any thoughts on the issue ?

kitalba

many thanks for your reply

wretched news

hopefully his full on acerbic whit will not be missing for too long

cheers PF

johnbhoy69

Bill Leckie nurses his ire for only one half of the Glasgow teams

sorry, i refuse to use the inclusive tag

re the ejections

some say over zealous bullying by the club

others suggest reasonable policing to protect season ticket holders right to watch the game without hassle from bams who don`t even have tickets for that area

some of our number seem to have been there and suggest the latter

the GB have been doing their damnedest to suggest the former

personally i`m more concerned with half wits strolling onto the pitch with little resistance from stewards

BTW England are getting bashed in the cricket

johnbhoy69:

I agree that the stewarding, and their motivations, can be a problem in more ways than one. However, that does not detract from the foolishness of those who encroach onto the pitch when a match is own.

They must be made to appreciate the full implications of their stupidity.

PF ayr:

Would not have marked you down as a ‘cricket’ man.

kitalba

i`m not sure that i correctly understand all the field positionings etc

but i do enjoy watching the England tours to Asia
i find it a good watch without the intensity of watching football , particularly Celtic

i like to read a book and watch the match... very relaxing ....and at this time in the morning i get some peace in the madhouse in which i live

Havnt read a post since the 10th or the 11th.

So happy for Shery, think we have a diamond in the making, he just needs the right partner.

PF ,

it maybe appeared that i gave Leckie some slack by not expressing my severe dislike for the man , please be assured i have no time for him although i find myself reading his columns and get myself into a rage with the anti celtic bile that comes with it. I know i stand a greater chance of living longer if i just stopped reading his and a certain J Trainers articles but they are in the papers that i buy because , although i find most of the contents rediculas and biased against us not only as a football team but people in general , 2 of my heroes also write columns in these rags. I have wonderfull memories and fully respect King Billy McNeil John Hartson , who i have had the pleasure of meeting , and always enjoy reading their views on anything.

I also agree with you regarding the ease at which bams appear to be able to get onto the pitch. It is far more important for the club to try and ensure this never happens again , well to the best of their abilitys anyway. I dont believe the stewarding is sufficient in a champions leauge game if 1 drunken 19 year old could give a supposed team of organised stewards the slip and interupt such a high profile game. That takes me back to my own point about the people employed to do the steward job. If they are not concerned for the reputation of the club or have a personal agenda against the club they are not going to go out their way to stop the idiot making his way onto the pitch. The steward i talked to was a nice guy but thats not to say they all are and to be honest with you i am actually quite pissed off that huns are stewarding our stadium , or being given the chance.

From what i could gather , celtic have a contract with Group4 Security for the Stewarding of our games. Group 4 then employ just about anyone - the guy i met was a student , but with the wages on offer i dont think the standard of applicant has to be outstanding. The stewards are then given instructions by their employers for where they will be working. From what i understood it is not uncommon to work both paradise and ipox , and that many of the stewards are not celtic supporters. Like i have previously said , this may not be news to many people , but it was to me - i am astonished and outraged - and with our club making euro headlines for the wrong reasons - especially if avoidable - the club should sort this out before anything else happens.

Personally i think Celtic should control the stewarding like has been done in the past. I understand the thinking in getting in a supposed proffesional security company but if they are not doing the job to a suitable standard - and when 2 eejits have been able to run onto the pitch however euforic or drunk they are in 2 seperate huge euro matches - they should be bumped.

any views ?

Brother Johnbhoy

johnbhoy

clearly the stewards were found wanting in the 2 instances that you highlight

i assume that the stewarding is being outsourced for financial and hassle reasons

it is generally much less hassle to employ contractors rather than employees ie all the employment law hassles are the contractors and not yours

as regards the fine i`m certain that the contract for stewarding will have a fines clause in it ....and that most of fine will have to be met by the contractors for their inadequate service

pros and cons exist in having your own stewards ...i`ll let PL decide he is doing just fine right now

johnbhoy
Relieved to hear that Rangers supporters feature amongst the Celtic Park stewards.
I would hate to think we were asking them what school they went to.
I do not imagine for a moment that a full post mortem has not been conducted into the wee twit who recently disrupted the game and would be astonished if the security firm involved did not suffer some kind of sanction, perhaps financial, for their inability on two recent occasions to actually perform the function for which they are paid.
Having said that, would rather we lost euros than points.

Sorry PF,
Hope you don`t think I was looking over your shoulder.
Slow typer is all.

you got me curious and I found this discussion on another blog

songs debate (not those songs)

PF ,

I'm delighted with the job PL is doing for our great club.

I'm also delighted with the job our supporters do and i am a proud proud member of this worldwide support and having been brought up in the celtic way i intend to give my own son the same treatment. He was delighted with his first visit to Paradise and he is keen to return which i hope to do once a month until next season when , if his desire is worthy which i'm sure it will be , i will try and buy father and son seson tickets. That will be a proud moment for me which i look forward to , the season tickets dropping through the door for the first time. I've only just started going back to the football after a long lay off , since the birth of my son almost 6 years ago,but finally the time is right as my son is now just about ready to start appreciating and understanding the celtic cause - the team that gives his dad so much delight as well as so much of every other emotion at times. He would be forgiven for thinking that the hoops are more dear to his dad than mum !!!!!!!

i'd like to take this opportunity to share with everyone a happy memory that will forever be with me , thanks to Berty Auld

I took my son Joseph Patrick Simpson to paradise for the first time at our most recent meeting with Hibs a couple of weeks ago. It was advertised that in the Celtic Superstore the Premier Leauge trophy would be on display and available , at a price ( bout 15 quid as i remember ), for your photo to be taken with it. Bertie Auld was also there that day signing copies of his new book. I live in Aberdeen so theres a wee bit of planning to be done before heading to home games especially with a very excited and adventurous 5 year old in tow , and after a discussion with Josephs mother , it was decided that we would rise early, get the train and arrive in Glasgow at the back of 11. The photos and book signing was only going on till about half 12 and little did i know that weather wise it would be the worst of the year so far !!!!! I was quite happy with myself anyway as i was killing 3 birds with 1 stone - i was taking my son to his first game at paradise , a day i had looked forward to since his birth almost 6 years ago , we were getting our photo taken with the premier leauge 3 in a row cup and Josephs memorys of the night we won that were still fresh in his little head , and we were going to meet the great Bertie Auld who would also sign a copy of his new book that i was buying for my dads forthcoming b'day, so everything was hunky dorey.
After the photo with the trophy which was worth every penny just to see the delight in Josephs face being able to hold it , we made our way over to Bertie. He was just finnishing up but was happy to stay and talk to me and my son as if we were longstanding friends of his. I cant say enough about the man , he is a legend and a true gentleman as well as being funny , generous and great with the kids. I had briefed Joseph on who he was but he never really took it in as he was looking about amazed at everything celtic. When i shook hands with Bertie he asked Joseph what his name was etc etc , and i informed him that it was his first visit to paradise. Joseph pointed out though that it wasn't actually his first game as he had been to 1 in the summer. My mother lives in Faro , Portugal and i had taken Joseph to 1 of the awful pre season games there earlier this year. To the amusement of myself , Bertie and everyone in earshot , Joseph proudly told Bertie that his first game was in a country called Portugal where his Granny lived and then asked if Bertie had ever been to Portugal !!! Bertie Auld was great with him and told him he'd been there a few times and had fantastic memorys of the place. Joseph then invited him to his grannys if he wanted , to which Bertie Auld thanked him so much.
Bertie Auld made my day and made sure that my already special memory of taking my son to Paradise for the first time is now all the more special. Ghod Bless you Bertie Auld.
It also turned out to be a great game to take a young bhoy to regardless of the horrendous weather that stopped the irish ferries. 6 goals and in the end a comfortable win.

I know this was all a bit long winded but thanks anyone for reading and bearing with me in my novel like tale. Although i have read CQN since Paul brought it to us , i have never posted a comment. Its been a long night though , and to share with you that encounter has me bursting with pride.

Ghod Bless You All

Dear Zander,

I write with regard to your recent Vatican meeting with my cousin, Giuseppe, where you advised him of the existence of golden telephones in our Churches throughout Europe. 'Joe' wishes me to pass on his thanks for you assistance during the tour of Rome and advised that you may be able to assist me in a pressing matter of Church-State conflict.

Basically I need you and the other Italian red hats to close ranks on Hibee-loving Scots Cardinal, Brian O'Keefe. Douse his influence in the corridors of power, keep him from stepping up the Lateran Ladder and ensure his successor is based in the West of Scotland. In return I pledge at your disposal the ongoing loyalty and faithful devotion of our non-sectarian organisation. Should the Swiss Guard fancy a fortnight aff I will gladly send a detachment to the Vatican as cover. In return I can arrange for the vacationing Swiss Elite to undertake security and stewarding duties at Celtic Park where there have been recent pitch invasions with one being to the detriment of Milanese personnel. This has cost our beloved club multi-Euro in UEFA Fines.

In closing may I wish you a Holy and peacefully-preparatory Advent and Boun Natale when it/He comes.

Ciao for now

PS Could you kindly send me average burn times for votive candles, both dimpled and undimpled, in the Archdiocese of Milano.

I have three girls and luckily the middle one , who's middle name is Celtic by a funny twist of fate , is a ghirl who at twelve and living in NZ still has her Celtic duvet and is the only one in my family who is interested when I talk about the Tic. She had a whole season plus at Celtic Park and those times were precious and very very special .

Great stuff on your blog tonight Paul. Lots of new people joining in and a fair bit of debate and humour as well as the fitba. Nice to see a good editorial on the fruits of Gordon Strachans coaching and planning. We don't need I AM STRACHANS anymore we mostly are. I just hope he stays around.

Greek doctors left me sidelined for Celtic because of blunder, reveals Georgios Samaras

GEORGIOS SAMARAS last night revealed how a Greek medical blunder left him sidelined for the past month.

The striker needed knee surgery after coming back crocked from international duty in the middle of October.

Samaras says he was in pain during his country's defeat of Moldova in the first game of a World Cup double header. He told his national team's doctors about the problem but was assured there was no damage and turned out against Switzerland four days later, making the injury worse.

Samaras said: "The doctors said it was nothing. Just that I was tired.

"When the doctors say it is nothing you accept it. So I played against the Swiss and did more damage to my knee."

Strachan's squad policy has paid dividends during the current injury crisis, I remember periods where injuries to just 1 or 2 key players would right off a whole season. Now we have a good squad what'll happen when (eventually) everyone is fit, will we operate a rotation policy or will our current match winning heroes have to get used to sitting in the stands again. What do people think is our strongest/first team?

could it be that a certain someone from mordor made a call to their favourite lap top dog,and told them to run with another anti-celtic story,in the continuing foney PR war?

A few of us were talking about that story last night.

I think that Mordor got wind of it and put it up as a story - read the statement from Bain, but then read the statement from Celtic. The Rears are ramping up the offensive PR offensive and Celtic are getting drawn into a tit-fot-tat situation.

AS ever, Murray is nowhere to be seen - he only breaks cover if things are going well. 0-0 draw at Fir Park, 4 points behind the Tic despite winning at CP, knives out on REars fans' websites for any number of them, so obviously, Murray is sitting in CHarlotte Square keeping his head down.

The trouble with the internet is that it is unregulated - anyone with a computer and a connection can do pretty much whatever they want. As a result, it's a constant source of material for reporters. When there's an incident, for instance, a teenager hurt, first place many look is YouTube, Bebo, Facebook and the like - ready made source of pictures and quotes that previously would only have been found after a day of tramping round a scheme, chapping doors in the pouring rain. That's lazy journalism.

Good choice. :)

STANDING UP

the huns are hurting

they are losing the league

the fans are ensuring that they are losing the PR war worldwide

they are out of Europe and hemmorraging cash

KT was realistically their only saleable asset and they are devastated that they can`t cash in on him

add to that that El Cardo made a fool of himself at the post match interview on wed

and

it is little wonder that their devious PR chuckle monkeys are instructed to spin a pejorative celtic story

pathetic

who in the Celtic supporting fraternity really gives a flying F about KT

we have much more interesting things to occupy our time with

CL last 16 qualification

domestic treble

the emergence of another exciting young player

BTW ...metting WDH in Glasgow for the Aalborg game

we`re having a meal then beers ...you`re more than welcome

Whatever next? Evil Celtic fans jump the pie-queue at Greggs at lunchtime?

Kitalba,

thank you very much for that excellent piece of work in finding the words and transalations.

St Stivs, who will be drunkenly trying to practise the gaelic tonight.

would love to see Celtic Park singing a song in Gaelic.

how would our detractors react to that one wonders.

PF Ayr

The Cardigan did lose the plot after that match - he'll usually say things like that in private, not in public. Bad mistake. Hence the attempt to turn the focus back on to Celtic fans

I may take up that invitation

Maybe I'll be quoted as another example - "Celtic fan says 'f***' under his breath as he just misses the bus to work".

Pete the Beat

You missed off a suitably denigrating adjective like 'evil' or 'heartless'.

Here's one from our house:

Rampaging Celtic fans go to school without putting the cornflakes box back in the cupboard

I think that He Who Has No Surname made his infamous remark without deliberate intent. Nevertheless even such an unconscious remark was totally inexcusable. I was really shocked when I heard it. It was unmistakeably sectarian. I was particularly disappointed given his close association with Tommy Burns.

The point is that WS would almost certainly not have behaved in this manner if all was well in the state of TFOD. There is now little doubt in my mind that the plot is being lost slowly but surely in Mordor. I would guess there will be further similar incidents in due course, few of which, if any, will be commented on adversely by the usual lackies (or should that be leckies?) in the media.

Quietsatisfaction CSC

Given the proliferation of anti-Celtic non stories, such as that from the daily ranger/clyde this morning, perhaps our chairman should have a quiet word with Sir Moonbeams to suggest that if this media house inspired nonsense continues, a similar campaign will be waged by Celtic.

As they have much more to fear given the antics of their supporters, & Murray knows this, then if he has any sense, he will back off.

V good Celtic First! Disgraceful Hoops fan loosens tie in stuffy office!

Marvelous stuff ! Brilliant !!

Well done to you and anyone else involved !

A Rangers fan at my work has relatives who do the investor/hospitality thing at Ibrox.

Walter Nosurname's remarks on radio the other night are not unusual, the difference is that he made them live on radio.
Apparently in the past he has been less than diplomatic at these corporate events but this is rarely reported as he is portrayed as grandad, cute Wattie.

The press know he is a bully and pander to him.

The bad news is that my colleague has heard that there will be a gradual handover of first team affairs to Cheeky Ally and a more experienced man for next season.

Billy Davies will probably be a Sky regular now in case Rangers forget about him.

blantyretim/inkybhoy

this is a complete non story, full stop!

If the media where running stories every time an incident like this happened regardless of who the club where, then that would be a different story,,,but,,this smacks of murray;s minions,it really does,i mean you go on any football site and you are guaranteed to find something offensive!

You're treading on tricky ground, and you know it.

TJ Winning was not a favourite of the current successor of St Ambrose. It was only in 2002 that Dionigi Tettamanzi received word that he was being appointed to Milan. The appointment came on 11 July (don't know if there's material in that for you) and his installation took place on 14 September that year. But it was one of the Vatican's worst kept secrets that Tettamanzi was going to be the man to follow the great Cardinal Martini in Milan, his home city.

At a gathering shortly before TJW died, your man O'Keefe was keen to know who this Tettamanzi man was (spoken of in those days as eminently papabile) so he asked TJW to point him out. If I may be so bold as to imitate your format for a moment, the conversation went along the lines of:

BO'K: Which was is this guy Tettamanzi?
TJW: That's him over there, Brian.
Bo'K: Which one?
TJW: The wee fat one.

Tittle-tattlers told Tettamanzi about this exchange and he was, by all accounts, fuming. Might it even have cost him the papacy? Could the conclave have held back from choosing him for fear of the new Pope being universally mocked for being a wee fat guy? Possibly. But in any event, I don't think the West of Scotland is in favour in the Archdioces in Milan, where wounds seem to take a long time to heal.

johnboy69 @ 7:59

always good to hear of the father/son hoopy moments. nice one.

I had a discussion with a couple of CQN Ghents (can't mind exactly who you were) on here the morning of the SPL trophy photo opp and I was saying how I felt it was a rip off to the hoops to have to pay £15 to get their photo taken with what is our trophy. You have just made me eat my words.
