Nakamura leaves indelible mark
Shunsuke Nakamura arrived at Celtic after an indifferent three years in Italy with Reggina. On his arrival I heard he suffered indifferent form but at his signing press conference, which came only two days after Celtic lost five goals away to Artmedia Bratislava, he set out his stall.
Through an interpreter he made it clear that he thought Celtic must believe they could score five goals in the return leg, which they almost did, and that they would regain the Scottish Premier League title.
His four years at the club were not marked by outstanding football but he was the creative fulcrum of most that was good. After his second Champions League goal direct from a free kick against Manchester United, a truly outstanding strike which took Celtic into the knock out stage for the first time, the wider football community asked, "Is there a better free kick taker in the world?"
If there was he must have done most of his work on the training ground.
As well as important goals in Europe we have the league winning free kick against Kilmarnock, and the most spectacular drop-volley against Rangers (below) last year.
For all his contributions he seemed to play a different game to the rest of his team mates, few of whom matched his vision or touch. Despite this, Celtic got more out of him than Reggina, or I suspect Espanyol will.
Best of luck, Naka, your place in Celtic's history is assured.

Thanks for everything, Naka - I think you'll crop up in Celtic conversation for many years to come.
Best of luck in the future.

I'm putting this to the stewards Mr Mansell; you cut me up big time, a manoeuvre that nice Mr Scumacher would never have done!
Couldn't agree more paul67, in the last two seasons in which i'm afraid it was poor fare being served up far to often, Nakamura would often put a smile on this Bhoys face with a sublime piece of skill.
yeh good luck Naka, you gave us 3 good seasons, you went a wee bit missing last year:(
so while us in Oz will continue to watch the Celts on Setanta next season, which TV Mob is the the favourites to get the deal for the UK?
I would have been first but I watched that brilliant Nakamura clip twice over! :-)

Nakamura-sama,
You lit up the dark corners of Scottish football and if just one Celtic youngster has been inspired by you both on the training ground and playing field, your Celtic legacy is assured.
Arigato goziemashita!
Hail hail!!
SydneyTim -
Maybe you will be watching Setanta in Oz, but you won't be watching Celtic if there are no cameras at the grounds they play in.

Good luck Naka,
Very sad to see you leave and thanks for all the great memories, especially given the fact that you are not a winger :-)
Most naturally gifted player to grace the hoops since Lubo.
Paul,
"For all his contributions he seemed to play a different game to the rest of his team mates, few of whom matched his vision or touch."
I couldn't agree more. Said it many times on here and elsewhere that for me his technical level was way above the rest at Celtic Park. Ok his free kicks and corners last season were frustrating at times, but his ball retention and passing ability were superior by far to the rest of his team-mates.
Unfortunately, and I hope I am wrong, but I have the feeling that more than a few Celtic supporters will only realise how good he was, now that he is gone!
Those free kicks against Killie and Man Ure will sit high in the annals of Celtic history, folklore and legend!
The question now I guess is who fills that wide right role? Someone already on our books, will Tony look elsewhere or has he got his eye on a new player?
Be interesting to see how this plays out.
To finish, Good Luck Shunsuke and thanks for those memories!

curly as long as there are some sort of cameras there(bbc, sky, espn) Setanta will show it here and the states( just like old setanta before this SPL live thingy) The have already said they still have the rights for SPL next season( chicken feed tho they got it for buttons)
The number of times the Emperor dug us out of a hole cannot be discounted. His are big shoes to fill. Aiden and Shaun; time to step up to that plate and take on that responsibility you know you want too. Lubo & Naka are sadly now memories. It´s your time now.
Hail Hail
I am afraid to break this news to my children. They love Naka.
Great sentiments Paul. We wish him well and thank him for his contributions. A consummate professional who always seemed to be another level to his team mates. I actually thought of him as a players player who had the best technical ability since Lubo. Also helped that despite understanding English he never spoke it which meant the Laptop Loyal could never make mischief.
When will we see his like again?
What a pity Naka wont be here under the new regime. I feel he still wasn't given the responsibility to use his ability in a more free role within the team.
Nevertheless a great Player and one who will be remembered for all the right reasons, por cierto.
Thanks for the memories, Naka. Fantastic skills & exemplary professionalism.
From previous article.
"while we wait on players to return from their holidays other clubs are snapping up the good players that are out there."
I think it is time we realised that there is no point in us rushing in to be part of the feeding frenzy for the top players available.
Until the Big Beasts of the EPL, & even the lesser lights of that league, are satisfied,we might as well wait patiently to see what is left available to us. We cannot compete financially & only frustrate ourselves & create interest in targets which we MAY be hoping to capture when the giants have sated themselves.
That is the reality of our situation & we had better get used to it.
Celtic & Scottish football have very limited attraction,....except to US.
Thanks Naka
You could make a 5 yard pass into a work of art!
Celtic are very Pro-Active in the transfer market.
Only time and patience will tell where they have been succesfu, por cierto.
Lionroared67, indeed.
Token Tim, yes, his corner kicks were a real weak point.
Now today tomorrow, the comparisons with Lubo are inevitable, they shared a great deal.
Long time lurker, first time poster. Sayanora Naka and thanks for the memories.

kit,
sounds like you've been having loads of aussie style fun :o)
I've been asked to go over to help sort out some massive hospital projects for a big aussi firm, but when they came over here on a fact finding tour to see how we done it, their attitude spoke volumes, they're as arrogant as the french but much much dumber. According to them there is nothing we can teach them, the feedback from oz so far is that they have constructed 2 hospital shells without approval and get this no electricity or plumbing design, they are now flapping so bad its name your price :o) brisbane sydney and melbourne are on offer, I'll probably no bother as I've went right off them, so hell mend them. So if your seriously on the lookout mail me and I'll give you the name that are hiring 9if you dont already know), but if what I've seen of them persists it will be more of the same. Difference being programs are laughed at.
hail hail
Sayonara Naka san,
You are a true Hoop legend and gave me my best Celtic moments in recent years. The Man U, Killie and rangers goals will live long in the memory. Here's hoping Koki can fill your boots!
Here's a couple to get you going today:
1: Name the 2 British Cities to have had 2 teams in the European Cup?Champions League semi finals?
2: Name the only European city to have had 3 teams in the Champions League in the same season?
To see Naka in the flesh (as it were) was an honour. His vision was immense -he knew to whom and where he was going to pass the ball before the previous possessor of the ball even knew that they were going to pass to Naka!
Not a very good tackler, and can only remember him winning a couple of headers, but that wasn't what he was bought for.
A huge hole to fill in my opinion.
Does BTM play left footers on the left side of the pitch? If so, then the whole wide left side of our team needs to be re-modelled.
Interesting and exciting times ahead, my fellow Hoops!
Cyrul
Good luck with your new club, Shunsuke Nakamura. I think you were El Gordo's best signing; you were not as good as the peeerless Moravcik but Lubo was fortunate to be playing with some real footballers.
What about this as a new money making and marketing opportunity ?
1966-67 season
1. North American Tour, played Spurs 3 times. I thought they beat them 3 times but seemingly the drew one match 1.1 and won the other 2. Maybe they won on penalties.
They also drew with Bayern Munich
2. Pre season friendly
Celtic 4 v 1 Man U. The scoreline was flattering for Man U. England World cup stars plus Best, Law, Crerand and managed by Busby.
3. Scottish league Cup winners
4. Scottish league winners
5. Scottish Cup winners
6. European cup winners
7. 1st British side to win the EC
8. 1st Northehn European side to win the EC
9. Won the EC first time asking
10. They were overwhelming underdogs in the EC final against the great Inter Milan, the current holders of the EC. It was a one sided affair and Celtic hammered them. Should have been 7.1
11. A team made from Glasgow boys + Bobby Lennox (Saltcoats, down the road from Glasgow)
12. They won the league at Ibrox that year 2.2 Johnson (2), one was a cracker
13. The league title they won the year before to qualify for the EC was their 1st league title after 10 years or so
14. Joe Mcbride, Celtic main Centre Forward, not Chalmers, was injured by Christmas and had scored 30 by then. They missed him for the rest of the season.
15. Bobby Lennox missed the EC semi final because he was called up to play for Scotland in his debut against the world chumpions England, scored in a 3.2 win. maybe other Celtic players played in that game??
16. They lost to Racing in the world club championship after a 3rd playoff game in Uruguay 3 days later after they had lost the 2nd leg in Argentina 2.1 if away goals counted back then then Celtic would have won the tie.
17. To finish the season off, they were invited by Real Madrid to play in de Stefano testimonial. Real had never lost to a club side at the Berneabeu outside of Spain and were not known to play friendly matches, everything serious. Jinky played them off the park and Lennox scored the winner.
A season that started with hammering the great Manchester United full of stars and ended with beating Real Madrid in the Bernabeu.
They should make a film on Celtic 67 they wouldn´t need David Peace's fertile imagination. The file could start with the disclaimer: None of this is fiction it´s all highly accurate fact. No names have been changed as its all in teh history books if your interested.

Paul - Naka will be sorely missed, but possibly not just ON the field!
Do you have any idea what his media rights were worth to Celtic over the four years of his contract?
Like Lubo, I don't feel that he was always used to the best of his abilities. MON would leave the wee man out quite often whereas WGS played Naka mostly out of his best position. His link up play when coming in off the wing was always very effective.
Aiden will have to show Naka's level of football intelligence and decision making before he can think of playing through the middle. Hmmmmm!
Good luck Naka and thanks for the highs.

Only silver lining here is that I'll take the girls down to Almería when Espanyol are in town. Of course we won't support Espanyol only Naka!
I'm really sad to see him go. I think he with Crosas, together with Brown and McGeady could've developed a really strong midfield unit.

Thanks for the memories Naka. We appreciated your talent long before you so emphatically announced your arrival on the big stage... and as you went on to prove that in spite of your slight frame you could still mix it with the best when the need arose.
All the best for the future our friend from the land of the rising sun. May you achieve everything you desire before your sun finally sets.

I agree with you Paul no one else had his vision and it often led him to play the percentage ball when a more attacking intelligent pass was on.
The most talented and entertaining player from the Gordon Strachan era,his first touch was possibly the best I've ever seen at Celtic Park apart from Lubo, would love to have seen him play with Henrik.
I will certainly miss him he at times was the only thing worth watching last season,if only McGeady had his vision and composure he could be a star.
Good luck Naka, thanks for the memories,I'm only sorry that we never got the chance to give you the proper farewell you richly deserved. We badly need some real quality to take your place and entertain us.
Savo, it's 3 cities........Glasgow, Dundee, London.
It is sad to see any player leave with the ability and skill NAKA showed us and I wonder if we'll be able to replace him with someone as enigmatic that is not only good for the 1st team but for the clubs image across the globe.
Sure he had some off days....but when he was on form he was terrific.
Lets face it how good was it to see our man being shown across teh globe for his FK against Man Utd.........MAGIC!!
Gool look NAKA and thanks for the memories.
I wonder if KOKI will feel differently being the sole Japanese player at the club? Might even help him as he's no longer in NAKA's shadow??
WishawTim/Tobi,
I wondered about Dundee but couldn't remember for definite if Dundee made it to the semis. Obviously remember Utd playing Roma, but was unsure about their city rivals.
Cheers for the confirmation.

For every season he was here Naka was my favourite player.
Even though his magic dead ball skill did diminish, his vision created so much space.

Good luck NAKA and thanks for the memories.
I hope that Koki Mizuno can take up the mantle.
the naka free kick is up there with all the great memories i have of celtic.
i have never seen better. not even roberto carlos.

on the downside, his corners were absolute.......

If you could take a corner as well as you could a free kick & your fellow players could keep pace with your intelligent ball play you would have been a visible footballing genious. You were a pleasure to watch.
Over the four years his defensive and ball winning game improved 100%.

My personal favorite naka moment, wasn't his man utd free kick or wonder goal against them, it was against falkirk, when he recieved a 50 yard pass from the middle took it out of mid air with his left foot the proceeded to skin his marker to finish it off! Pure magic!!!

What a crass question. Its a personal tragedy for 2000 people losing their jobs.
Cant disagree with any of the above, he was a star who found world wide fame at Celtic, that night against Man U was the night he arrived.
What a goal.
Love that goal against Rangers and many others, fantasic ball control and passing, that will do me for a number 25.
We dont have another player who can take that role.

Excellent stuff - See when you see it written down the 1967 journey was quite remarkable. I lived through it and it still makes me do a double take when it all appears together.
There is a marvellous story there - could be the greatest football film of all time - there's a righ good few talented tims in the industry who could make this work.

Paul,
have you done a calculation on how Naka's departure will impact upon future revenues: loss of tv interest (what tv), shirt sales etc.etc., and will Tony Mowbray's signing policy be shaped by PL's desire to develop the global brand in cash rich regions?
If so, forget Eastern Europe. Unfortunately Emirati's are cr@p at football...
Head and shoulders the best player we have had under WGS. IMO wasted at times out on the right. The only genuine technically gifted member of our squad. Good luck Naka, enjoyed watching you in the Hoops shame we won't see you in TM's new look Celtic.
We will be a much poorer side without him next season. Hard to replace but TM must try to do so. Celtic'c loss is Espanyol's gain, surely we must be able to do likewise within the transfer market and find a quality Bosman.
JMS1609,
You're not dexlysic are you?
Who is Xabi Castillo,
what position? what age? is he worth the e2M asked for, seen on newsnow that he is joining us next week, is it another agent linking his name for exposure?
a celtic great for me, always gave everything, played through injury, jetlag and fatigue, never hid and had the sort of skill that would occasionally take your breath away. often worht the price of admission on his own, consistently our best player.
i'll miss him
By canamalar on June 25, 2009 1:31 PM
Xabi Castillo is a 23 year old left back playing for Real Sociedad. We've been linked to him for a month or so now.
Awe_Naw - re the England 67 game, two other Celts definately played that day, Ronnie Simpson was in goal (oldest debut for Scotland - think the record still stands) and Gemmell was left back. Don't know if anyone else from Celtic made it.
Xabi Castillo we can have for about 200k

He's a left back, who was linked to us month's back.
Seems Spanish club's would have to pay 2 mill for him. However moving abroad would see that figure reduced significantly (if reports month's back are accurate.
Not seen the guy play but he's playing in Spain's second tier. Would have thought if he was rated a Laliga side would have bought him by now. If the story is true, hope he's a player that's slipped through the net.
Kilbowie Celt
How right you are. Only the other day as frustration mounted I calmed myself by asking myself that if I were a player of sufficient quality to be of interest to a club in the major leagues what would make me turn any of them down to go to Celtic. The answer of course would be only for more money than any of the others offered or only if I didn't fancy any of the clubs that were interested in me. So unless we are prepared and have the funds available to pay top dollar we can only wait.
I would prefer however that if we have limited funds that we spend what we have on a few quality players and let our squad numbers be filledc by the youngsters who otherwise get little playing time.
Paul67 - Nakamura is one of those magical players who can light up the game with their skill and vision, and it was often a delight to watch him in the Hoops.
He will be hard to replace, but then as a naive youngster I never thought we'd replace Paolo DiCanio until a certain Mr. Larsson made us all forget about the gesticulating Italian and his little problem.
Surely next season will be the most important one in Aiden McGeady's career as he will either come roaring back into the form which earned him comparisons with Jinky or turn out to be yet another youth product who promised much but ultimately failed to deliver. He may be a young man, but he is no longer a young player so it's time for him to consistently deliver the football we know he is capable of.
Apart from Aiden, where else is the creativity and elan going to come from in our midfield?
PAUL i think Naka will prosper in Spain as the cluggers will not have free reign.
Also hopefully the coaching shackles will be removed and his vision and touch revitalised.
I'm going to miss the creative genius

"I have mixed feelings about my time at Celtic.
At the beginning, I was a regular starter in the league, in the Champions League, I scored the goal in the Scottish Cup final.
Everything was going well. Then I got injured against AC Milan in October, I came back fine before the manager gave me a really hard time.
Last summer, I asked to leave when the club signed Andreas Hinkel. The manager categorically refused. He never played me again.
Did I annoy him when I asked to leave? I don't know.
Anyway, I didn't understand anything. No-one understood.
I tried my luck again in January, because I had interest from Norwich and Coventry for loan spells, also in Hungary, at Ujpest!
Again the manager refused. Outcome - I spent my season on the bench."
Hopefully we wont have this type of scenario with BTM now in charge.

Dubaibhoy,
Not dexlysic if my are refrring to my moniker. Important date in my life and only user ID I can ever remember.
the above should read "poster who answered"
I see Stoke and Hull are sniffing around Dean Ashton. £4.5m asking price. He is a guy I have always liked. 25 years old, pace, power and excellent finisher. I wouldn't say no to him in the hoops....
With Boruc going I reckon we will for sure see at least one large fee coming in. Janko is still my top hope, but would be happy ith Ashton.
Srange, but Ed does not seem to mention the scores.
JMS1609 - Important date in your life? You are doing well posting on a blog at 400 years old....
I stand corrected guys and apologise. Maybe it's something to do with my dislike of them lot!

Deletion-Gate Part II
Yesterday evening I wrote a post thanking a few people, including RAGDaddy for comments on one of my posts.
Today, I can't find it.
Clearly this is an underhand attempt to portray me as an arrogant, ungrateful sod.

;)
I think the Mark Venus interview was sensible
enough, and on the question of transfers let's hope
he was being rightly guarded.
Alrhough it didn't inspire me especially as he
alluded to the notion of the same squad for the
CL qualifiers.
Not exactly a rallying call to the beleaguered
support, that know his squad better than he does.

I too had fond hopes that the EPL bubble might burst. I was perturbed to hear then that the BBC had paid £170m for MOTD highlights (although there was little competition), and BSkyB had published increased profits this year, Setanta have vowed to bid strongly again and the EPL are making noises that they will maintain the current level of TV rights.
grrr...
You didn´t get what you wanted .. shame that
Mind you I´m sure if THE EPL bubble burst a few would lose their jobs as well. Not that you would give two tuppenies
Mmmmmhhhh strange that

What annoyed me was the fact that referees very rarely gave us free kicks in central areas last season, due to some people like Gus McPherson making it a controversial issue.
I think refs saw it as tantamount to giving us a penalty and I don't doubt that we lost points because of it.
Rogueleader:
If Dean Ashton could keep himself fit I think he'd be a "top 4" player and be starting for England with Rooney in every international. I think he's played something like 50 games in his last 3 seasons, and 30+ of them were in his first season at West Ham.
Great player, but even whilst injury prone, still out of our league financially.

no one of them played for Celtic
Dubaibhoy, I never saw compelling evidence that Naka produced significant commercial income for Celtic from Japan. He would have done smart business in the Celtic shop and we saw plenty of Japanese students at CP, but Celtic do not own TV rights and I don’t think Channel67 did much in Japan.
Interesting strategy but if the Naka experience is anything to go by I don’t think we will place too much emphasis on recruiting players from key markets.
Philvisreturns, good point, time to look to the horizon.
fan-a-tic, yes, he will do well in Spain but I suspect we got the best of him.
Thecat, Rangers subsequently bought their rights back from NTL/Telewest.

If Boruc is going would it not be beneficial to spend the cash before his departure is announced?
We could probably get Marc Janko and Jermaine Beckford for the money received. But if it gets out that Celtic have pocketed (say) £10M for Boruc, I would expect the prices asked for the above two to increase by £2M apiece.
We already have Boruc's and Naka's replacements, but we need to add more firepower up front (and ship JVoH out, even if on a free transfer, to release the wage money!) and a proper solid left back (Paul Robinson?).
Kojo
I thought it was obvious that I was joking.
Darn that Mark Venus, he didn't give away any transfer names Celtic are interested in, didn't give away how much Celtic have to spend on the transfer market, didn't expand on the managements team thoughts on players within the current set up? doesn't he know all our competitors in Scotland and Europe WANT to know!!! to gain any advantage on us.
Thanks Mark for being sensible and guarded, get used to the inane babbling questions repeated ad nausea from the laptop loyal, just ignore the ramblings of some of our own.
Paul67....
When you say "we got the best of him" I assume you mean better than any other club. If you mean we saw the best of his ability, I would have to disagree. Strachans rigid style often left Naka isolated and when played more through the middle, looked devastating with goals, assists and link-up play.
I fear we never saw the true brilliance of this wonderful footballer and I would have loved to have seen him play just one season under Mowbray. Shame his "homesickness" got to him....
Rogue Leader....
I'm a massive fan of Ashton and even put him in my fantasy team to start with. However, his injury record doesn't make good reading and I'm sure he's earning far more than we can pay...

I remember what Tony Mowbray said about selling one good Celtic player. He said that he was going to buy new players for that money.
I think that from his perspective this is the best and possibly the only moment to sell Boruc. Celtic supporters can understand that club needs money for transfers. Some will miss Boruc, they will remember his best moments at Celtic but won’t argue with that decision.
I try to be in Mowbrays’s skin and I think he would like to have clear situation at the team. Mowbray knows that Boruc is good goalkeeper but last season caused few affairs. I imagine Artur is the leader of the pack (team). If Mowbray does well without Boruc and JVoH people won’t remember Boruc. They will remember he made good deal.
They think at Celtic Boruc is an frozen asset. Paul67 ?
i get this feeling that we're downsizing (cutting the wage bill)to suit the game up here and keep a healthy pocket for our board and owner.i fear there will be no transfer activity of the type that will cheer the fans.
it might be blind faith for us but it certainly isnt for our board.
it will be a very tough time for TM.

Well its another no news day as far as I can see, Niknak has gone, JV and the Harts to follow, and still nothing by way of buy-ins
Now here's a silly thing, I actually agree with our new Assistant Gaffer, we have the players at the club already who could get us through the first CL qualifier, think last season but with Caddis, McCourt Mizuno etc and that is probably enough to get us through to face the big boys in the last quali round.
The real skill is in recruiting the kind of talent that takes us one step beyond, I have a funny feeling the Mogster is working on something Mega, a name that hasnt been discussed yet, and the kind of name that's going to make a lot of other decent players take notice. There are still players out there who value challenge over reward, I would be very surprised if we aint talking to them already

Gary67/DougieBhoy, are you saying that most of the CQN contributors have been lying over the last few years with all the claims that Lee Naylor is the worst Celtic full back they have ever seen?!
Who else is in the frame for left back (within our even-more-limited-post-Setanta budget)?
Koki, Niall McGinn & Paddy McCourt are Naka's replacement, but primarily Koki.
geebee1978, agree, Naka often seemed lost in our style.
Kojo, there is no doubt that Naka has peaked; time to move on.
BigYinMilan :- There was no need to, most posters on here aready know the scores and just in case I ever forget they get mentioned two or three times a year by kind hearted posters :-)
JVH, Nakamura, Hartely and Balde all to go it seems, along with hints that Boruc is to be sold, maybe others sold? certainly indicates to this Bhoy a revolving door throughout the summer at parkhead!! Celtic are going to spend, no doubt.
Gary67/DougieBhoy, I forgot to mention JVoH's replacement... Bobo Balde!
Well, he can't be any less mobile, would be far more intimidating to opposing defenders, and would probably score more goals, albeit mainly from set pieces.
Cheerio Nakamura san, thanks for the golden moments.
When will we see, yir likes again!
So with Naka off the wage bill, Bobo soon and probably JVH, three of our top earners will be off the books (plus more than a few pool players who won’t get into the 1st team) , our wage bill will be substantially reduced paving the way for our new signings (on lower wages).
The signings will come, but its not necessarily the quickest signings that’ll win the SPL, it’s the correct signings for a management team who need to re-build, while evaluating the current squad………stating the obvious here, but I just wanted to put ma 2 pennies worth in. I’m staying patient just now, as I’m pretty sure our new management are working their socks off in an attempt to identify and sign these new players.
On another matter, there hasn’t been any talk on here or anywhere else that I’ve seen recently, about the atmosphere at CP.
I think we as a club should be aiming to create the atmosphere which was at CP in the old days, when the crowd in the Jungle and Celtic ends used to be worth a goal of a start.
It was an experience being in amongst the jungle in those days and the crowd visually lifted the players on many an occasion.
I don’t have the answer of how to achieve this, but some suggestions are:
1. Standing/ singing sections behind both goals.
2. Supporters buses or groups of supporters to apply on a waiting list to be re-seated beside or near to each other, thus keeping groups of people who travel TO the game together, beside each other INSIDE Celtic Park.
Whit dae ye think CQN’ers, can we get that auld jungle atmosphere back again?

Yes, I know it's a Daily Record story which is a red rag to a bull as far as many posters on here are concerned, but does anyone out there still believe that WGS didn't marginalise certain players for no better reason than his own peculiar whim ?
Playing Doumbe would not, in itself, have won us the league but his case is typical of last season's demise. Strachan was - and is - an architect of discontent and we paid the price whilst he walked away with the cheque.
Significantly, I don't see any clubs clamouring for his services.
Kojo
Marek Cech is Slovakian. He is still young, only 26 years old left back. After Slovakian period he spent 3 years at FC Porto. There he played all games when not injured. These were games in their league, UEFA Cup and Champion League games.
He is in England since few month.Possibly he does not speak English language. What I wanted to say, my friend?

YOu have to be joking!! Sounds absolutely awful to me. The less we have to do with the bigot FC the better. This would be more grist to the "bad as each other/two sides of the same coin" mill.
Kojo
Probably my post was not clear.
That is not my rule! But this rule exists.
If two players are similar class, the one who speaks and understands coach language has much easier life at the club. From only football perspecives he has more power to understand coach tips.
Xabi Castillo will have heard quite a lot about Celtic from the previous assistant manager at Real Sociedad, Stevie Keane.
El Mundo Deportivo is a reliable sports newspaper. It's published in Barcelona, but for reasons I'm not sure of, always devotes a lot of coverage to the Basque teams. It has very good connections in San Sebastián, I believe.
Anyhow, they've spoken to the players agent, Jokin Bárcena, who has told them he thinks a deal will go through next week, with Celtic looking like the favourites to sign Castillo. Bárcena said he and the player were also looking at two offers from England, without naming the clubs.
Xabi Castillo was seriously coveted by Osasuna, but the internal transfer fee has put the Pamplona people off.
It sounds as if the lad would have been happy to stay at La Real if they had won promotion, but the talk in the Basque Country is that local lads are being paid a pittance to finance a handful of very expensive recruits from elsewhere. Xabi clearly thinks he can make more of his career, in a footballing and financial sense. I say good luck to him.
geebee1978 - an OF (expletive) TV?
Not good, more ass - ociation with THEM.
But sounds like the sort of thing the board would do.
With blinkers on, and looking at it purely financially... could make us a LOT of cash, on the other hand if everything was split 50 / 50 and we didnt buy cos we didnt want tio line the enemies pockets.... and they did the exact same thing, it could be one massive (and expensive) flop.
Skippy
Naka was knackered but we'll need to get someone in or rely on someone stepping up to give us the creative influence he showed more in his former seasons than his last.
This guy from Lazio, tricky, clever, doesn't chase back, isn't fit and is always injured... is he Paddy McCourt's twin?
If Boruc goes we better get good money for him. I'd be happy for him to go as long as we get around the £8m mark, it could be used better elsewhere in the team. Although he is a great goalkeeper, the best I've ever seen at the club, I don't think his presence in the dressing room is a good thing. The team may be better off as a whole without him.

yer pal... who likes ye aloat
Paul Robinson is a better full back than Lee Naylor, trust me. The problem is he's a hot head, and always has been, and he is 30 years old now, so I don't think he's the type of player we should be looking for. I'd like to know how many times the folks who are slagging him off have actually seen him?
I've been in the Midlands a long time now and seen him plenty. He's certainly not the player he was when Brian Robson was in charge, and as I say, I don't want Celtic to spend money on a deteriorating 30 year old, but some of the comments slagging him off are uninformed and unnecessary.
Or, if you think they are informed, lets hear the reasoning....
My memory may be rusty but did WBA (i.e. TM) not try to sign Paddy McCourt? If so, he will likely be given every chance to shine.
However, if he does, he will be more the exception than the rule, given his track record.
Good luck to him,
Rebus

because your credibility is so low.
It's possible to check back your
old posts, happily they are still when
I need a laugh.
You are Brian Quinn aren't you?
With regards to Pat McCourt, wasn't it the case that the two clubs in for him were Celtic and Tony Mowbray's West Brom?
If so, I hope he gets more of a chance from the beginning of games than he has done previously.
robinson has always looked ok when i've seen him, and thats been against teams in the epl. naylor looks keech against st mirren.
i'd take him for a couple of seasons as long as he doesnt want the sort of wage that was being talked about when we were supposedly interested before.
geebee1978 & Marty T - For sure his injury record is a massive concern, also wages, but surely with all the big earners going we can at least match the likes of what Stoke would pay?
Would be good to get him and let our team assess what they believe to be the root cause of his injury problems. If he stayed fit, as you say, he is a fantastic player and a full intetrnational. Huge huge gamble though but I know another player who had horrendous knee problems, that even resulted in him failing medicals, that did not too bad here! There is an exception to every rule!

The substitution question: pretty sure it was Pearce and David O'Leary (can't remember which started and which was the sub).
And I have a vague recollection that the game was at Wembley??
Malone, a question:
Who will the SBS (Scottish Bigotry Society) abuse if Boruc does leave Celtic this summer. What with nobody crossing themselves on their way onto the pitch, there will be no excuse to explode into a seething vitriolic mass of neanderthalism.
We'd better get McCourt in the first eleven ASAP, with McGinn on the bench as an easy target. And perhaps Zaluska can take on AB's pre-match routine?...

I just scanned through your comments on Cech. I agree that he has bags of ability but he spent a lot of time unfit and wasn't deemed good enough to get into a poor side when he was. At his age, this season really will be make or break.
SKIPPYisAgoalMACHINE...True but it's almost what we're doing now anyway - anyone who buys SPL rights are paying for the big two.
I'm still in favour of an individual deal. Any reason why this isn't being suggested?
In case no one has answered the brothers being substituted question, it was Pierce O'Leary and his brother 'Chequebook Dave'.
I believe it was in a match at Wembley.
Kojo,
Can't agree more about Paddy McCourt. He runs at people with the ball fixed to him and his head up looking for a result to his efforts. Watched him a lot with the reserves and if he can get into the BIG team we might have something different to watch next season other than lenghty runs down the flanks and poor crosses into no man's land. We'll see....

I thought Scotland was a bigoted backwater in football terms but it seems other nations have designs on that title
BOBBY WILLIAMSON has been caught up in a bizarre anti-homosexual row in Uganda.
The former Hibs and Kilmarnock boss was appointed manager of the African nation last year.
But he has been asked to sign a code of conduct which will include an article that 'denounces any support or involvement in sodomy-related acts.'
Ugandan football has been rocked after Isaac Omalla - who plays for Horizon FC - made a complaint to police that his manager, Charles Ayeko, had sexually assaulted him after a game.
And the country's media have also carried scare stories of a homosexual culture among local players.
Williamson's bosses, the Ugandan FA (FUFA), have now launched a campaign against homosexuality - which is illegal in the country - and all coaches in the country have to sign the code of conduct.
Uganda Coaches Association chief, Stone Kyambadde, said: "We are going to address the problem of sodomy in the code of conduct.
"The code will denounce any support or involvement in sodomy-related acts."
And FUFA spokesman, Rogers Mulindwa, said: "We totally condemn it.
"What we want is evidence to pin the people involved. It's here that we will start the clean-up."
Williamson took charge of Uganda last year succeeding current Hearts boss Csaba Lsazlo last year and the former Plymouth and Chester manager has been a success in his new job.

No sweat,pal..
Padraig, ineluctably, has a very spotty fitness record.. at least at Celtic, he has.
I am told the main reason for this record.. was..His extraordinary poor, poor, physical condition... when he first arrived at Boys Town.
He was in much the same type of Physical Condition, as Rocky was.. before, he met that old, but wise, Boxing Trainer.
Now, Padraig is beginning to get into some semblance of true Physical Fitness..although, he is by no means at his Peak... Yet.
I am also informed that once he gets a full Pre Season training period, under his now... not so bulging, Belt.. he will be raring to go.

Hi all,
Just a comment on Paddy McCourt...
I have heard one or 2 people raving about the guy.
Unfortunately from what I hear he's STILL not fit enough. The phrase I heard was that he can't run once round the pitch without 'blowing out his ****'.
I hate to say this but he's got talent... simply the reason he's still not made it to any level is he's a waster.
I hope I'm wrong... but lets be honest here.. He's in his mid-20s and he's yet to feature in top flight footie. What do you think that says about his motivation?
B
My dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,friend.. FJIW.
I am glad tae see that we are arm in arm, oan the subject of the so far, Un-Lit POWDER KEG.. that is Padraig.
This guy.. tae me.. tae me...
Is an old time Celtic Player.
He is no a Fearty, He is neither a Namby nor a Pamby!
He faces his opponent squarely.. and leaves him helpless in his Wake, as he streaks for goal...that's Padraig,of course.. no, his beaten opponent!
Padraig's, only failing.. and it is not a MINOR ONE..
Is that He tries to do Too Much oan his oan.
Howvevahhhh...
Looking at the Teams that he has played for, in the past..
He probably DID.. have to DO, Everything... oan his Own.
He just needs a wee bit time tae adjust tae the fact that noo he hiz plenty o' Skilfull Helpers aroon him, noo.
And this is where good Coaching comes in.
So...
I believe that Mr. Mowbray, is a step up oan Mr. Strachan, vis a vis. Man Management..and will manage to steer Padraig, away, from his Present Possessiveness of the Ba'.
Mr. Strachan, hid been sich a FIERY, Tricky and Skillful Player in his Hey day.. that Ah believe he expected every ither player tae hiv the same knowledge aboot the game.
Which, as ye know, is not quite true.
So..
Under the Patient guidance of Mr. Mowbray.. of which I am told .. Mr. Mowbray, does Possess in Abundanza.. mebbe, we shall see quite a few of the other Celtic Young Hopefulls, Improve tremendously, and reach their full Potential.
Young Cadddis, for one..
I like this young man.. I have no idea how much he has progressed under the Stewardship, of Mr. Levein.. whom I happen to admire as a Manager.
In fact.. I would not have Flinched , at all..
If Celtic had Appointed him, in place of Mr. Strachan.
If I were King..
I would, immediately, set ma Bunnet. at making Master Caddis a First Team Member of Celtic's...MID FIELD.
Master Caddis, is a Natural MID FIELDER.. and could become a fully Fledged.. General, there, if given some Time to blossom.
Yep.. Master Caddis even now..
IS A FAR FAR MORE PAYING PROPO, than eethur, Mr. Crosus. or Mr. Brown.
My opinion. Gents.. My opinion.

Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo,
In fairness I 'blow out my ****' running to the half-way line....
But ultimately he is taking a fair wage to get fit.
In his case, if these rumours are true... and let me be honest and say it's not 1st hand info... I'd not let him near a pitch until he was fit. Every day I'd have him in a gym with a proper (army-style) trainer.

What about Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt from Reading? I think they would walk into our starting 11. They both seem to have a good work ethic and ability, plus being a good age.
They could possibly fit within our wage structure, although I don't know how much the transfer fee would be..maybe £6 million each? Maybe selling artur could help fund that.

Oh, and if Paddy McCourt was approaching full(nay, core)fitness towards the end of last season, do you think he's maintained it over the past few weeks?
A huge thank you to Naka for four fantastic years, his control, vision, passing & free kicks were very special.
Good bye & good luck
Apologies for multi-post, widny take for some reason

Smoke signals via the loyal, are the way things get run up the Celtic flagpole. The first Mark Venus interview contained juicy morsels like "panic buy" which are perfect for the Loyal to taunt us, with.
BBC was even more predicatbly first off the mark with the cliche, in their own brand of lazy journalism.
For what it's worth I think Celtic will spend heavily this season, - we always do when we get a new
man in.

Kojo,
Can't believe that my sign in name bothers u so much. I call my best friend Taig all the time and he takes it as a term of indearment.Didn't mean to offend anyone with my name, however i could change my name to Kojo 2 and speak constant nonsense.
As for Awe Naw or whatever your name is, i will do what i always do with ur posts and that is skip to the next poster,ur a bit of a Novo, if u catch my drift!!!!!!!!!!

It does appear that negative Celtic stories are a continued best seller, despite we seemed to have known for eons about the meeja, it used to be huns with typewriters, now its the laptop loyal, it has ever been thus, it is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma why this continues to be so. As for Rankers i believe in the two week period before the season starts proper, at least a couple of bosmans will find there way to Ibrox with the usual fanfare to accompany these signings.
Apologies if this has been posted before but here's the translation of the holy goalie's text...
"I am not saying goodbye, but in next few days some key decisions around my future in the club will be made
I'd like to thank you for your support and you are the best supporters in the world. If the things will go the way they go, I will miss you
In the next few days I will also give you one more important news about my future, so watch this space!"
Hmmm consider the space watched, that sounds like TM and crew need to sell on for some dosh. Thanks for the memories big man!

While many critised Setanta's production values and editorial direction, I always respected them for their decision to broadcast via the Freeview platform.
This meant that those unwilling or unable to pay for a Sky package could buy a £30 set top box and subscribe to SPL TV for £10 per month.
Live sport for £10 per month, rather than the Sky basic of £20 plus the Sports package of £20 plus Setanta of £10, all per month.
Coincidentally, I have just reset my freeview box - last 30 minutes. Whether tellingly or otherwise, Setanta's channel 34 is now showing as ESPN. There are no programmes showing as of yet, but ESPN, it seems, has taken on Setanta's freeview platform.
I do so hope, whoever takes on the SPL, that Freeview is the broadcasting platform of preference.

Sell Boruc, Brown, McGeady...to strengthen the team......whit huv you been drinkin'....!!!!!????
Naka had a touch from god,and his vision aswell.
He is the best free kick taker Celtic have ever had.
He never controlled any CL match or Old Firm encounter.
He was often ineffective away from home, and was posted missing at Ibrox.
I felt that he would have been a revelation at Barcelona, but far too often his form was indifferent in the SPL.
It was time for him to go.
Naka thanks for the wonderfull memories they will far outway the bad ones.
Some moments of magestic worldclass technique, but quite a few games where you were invisible.
Congratulations Rioskorrie.

Edward Ursus,
Here's a thought - being obviously proud of your facial hair, why not try a little twist (Billy Connolly style) and dye it green at the bottom - maybe a trendy wee goatee? I know I've never met you but somehow I think it might suit you sir!
And thanks for your reply last night, if we did indeed cross pool cues in the Dockers in Ardrossan I hope I took it easy on you and let you pot a couple of ba's at least!
Finally farewell to Naka, who thrilled and frustrated me in equal measure to be honest, Those free kicks, ohhh sublime... but the amount of corners that didnae get past the first man, and the fact that the rest of our team often didn't appear to be on the same wavelength...
And here's me just got my 4 y/o boy perfecting the "Doo doo doo doo, Nakamura" chant. Gonna have to explain to him that he cannae sing it any more :-(
Thanks for everything Shunsuke, good luck to you and your family for the future. Once a Celt..

Just watched the wee video of Naka's goal against Rangers. Thanks for some brilliant football over the last few years Shunsuke, you've been one of the few highlights of the Strachan era and your goals against Man U, Killie and them will be remembered for a long time.
Right, lets get on and replace him asap. The guy Meghni looks like a player. I'd like to see the substantial wages of Bobo and Naka being spent on a 'blue chip signing' the likes of which we haven't seen in a long time. Go on Peter and Mogga give us a signing that gets us all excited and looking forward to next season.

I agree that wee Naka was a genius with free kicks,
but in my opinion still reckon big Pierre was best free kick taker ever at celtic park.
I cant find the post so cant give praise to the blogger who put forward the name of Leeds Utd striker Jermaine Beckford. Just watched a youtube clip of his 20 goals from last year. Looks like a player. Out of contract next year and is subsequently transfer listed after rejecting contract offer. He's 25 and not sure how much they expect for him but def looks worth the mention...

Seen Venus playing down Fletcher links, anybody actually here what he said?
Still belive he is a definite target!
Disappointed in comments attributed to Venus again that we wont be rushed for qualifiers, doesn't give me confidence that our business will not be done to August, probably towards 31st...by then we could be out of europe and by then 3 league games played!

Evening all,
Updating (and possibly downgrading) from the oft repeated NIKE Friday* slant during all transfer windows (*Wednesday, Monday select to fit). Would it be more apt to call tomorrow ALDI Friday ? This is not to comment on new arrivals merely to note our position in looking for bargains (which without being an employee of ALDI there are some breatrhtaking bargains to be had - yucca, ficus and dracaena plants for £3.49 !!) If we had some genuine ALDI signing days I would be happy as the Nike days ain't ever appeared despite a lot of us getting a bit over excited.

I agree Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt would be one hell of a duo to bring to Celtic. The two lads are young have proven themselves at international level. No chance of winning anything at Reading and might jump at the chance of coming to Paradise. Are they being tracked by EPL preditors?
Andy Murray looking good at Wimbeldon
Naka a class act - good luck in sunny Spain.
Mrs Chaplin is watchin Katie & Pete at the minute. They just passed Emmett O'Lunney's bar in Manhattan. I had a few pints in there last year, I really enjoyed it, do any of you New Yorkers drink there ?

Have we signed Janko yet?
Don't know about 'Marquee' or 'Blue Chip' to describe them (as that could also describe Graveson, Juninhio, Jarosik), but...
Since Wim arrived at Celtic back in 1997, Celtic have always (barring MON's last season) had at least one player of true world class ability in the team.
Henrik
Lubo
Naka.
That is the not east task that BTM must achieve.
As well as bringing in the other three or four reinforcements.
Kojo
I agree with you on Boruc and McGeady, sell, sell, sell
However, Mr Brown will be back to the player we bought to drive our team forward but who has stagnated as a player for the last year, this year will be his year, and then we can sell him to the EPL for a damn sight more Pounds of Squash than we would get for him this summer
Kojo.
for once i read yer post and for once ye are making sense , i'm trembling here , we are singing from the same song sheet.
if the 3 players ye have touched on were as good as some people would have ye believe they are , the league would have been our .....no question.

It's simple.
Can we get a better player than McGeady for what we sell him for ,and for similar or less wages?
The same goes for the ither twa.
Mr Strachan said it would cost £8million to replace McManus.Maybe you can see why i wiz never a big fan o Mr Strachan.

You were courteous and thoughtful to Lemonette IV, who has posted her picture with you outside Celtic Park on the interweb via facetwittermsnbebo, but I can't link things. You'll just have to take my word for his genuine niceness lhads.
Apart from all the lovely footie and wonder goals, my personal fave memory is from Rugby Park this March ( the false dawn amongst our away travails).
Shaping to shoot like a divebombing Zero from eleven o clock outside the Killie box in the first half, the wag behind shouted 'Banzai!' with impeccable timing as our very own Samurai was pulling the trigger. Naka missed his shot but oh how we all laughed! Well, me anyway, because I got it, Lemonette IV didnae and told me to wrap it, I was embarassing myself and her.
'Twas ever thus.

Oh my dear, dear Shunsuke.
Quietly heartbroken
What a football player
I actually saw you get mad one day - you'd had enough of the boot boys and the referee's complicity in the bruises they were inflicting - oh how they desired a chance to book you.
Close control, tight pass, time on the ball, you quickly made Petrov the real deal - but he left.
I remember (Back in the day) you spying a run from deep mid by JVOH!!!! on the right - you literally used your head , as if looking elsewhere then slide ruled a ball into the path of Jan, which he buried, and I MEAN buried the ball into the opposite corner of their pokey. I watched you get fouled with impugnity.
I watched you get back up again.

Kojo the only wan of yir proposed transfer trio worth selling is Brown at the prices you quoted.
As Tinytim says you have to replace with better and the trick is spending less to do that.

Kojo - Got to agree with you Sir. The three amigos you name could be replaced for the sum of money you mention with room to spare. It is a failing of ours not cashing in when stock is high. So I concur...sell sell sell!
Oh and don't concern yourself with new faces who pile in immediatly with insults. Particularly ones who say they have been lurking but still come in with that sort of style. It is not welcome here...of course any Celtic fan who uses that horrible "T" word in their nomme de blog, then immediatly goes on a personal, unconstructive offensive has deserved suspicion cast upon them.
The schools go out this week so I expect more of these festivities over the long hot summer!

My dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,dear,friend.. Tiny Tim.
Can we replace these players by better players for the same money as we get?
That, basically is your objection to my suggestion.. or.. that is how I interpret your posting.
My aswer is Yes.. I think so.. of course.. I cannot be soiten.. just my opinion.
For..
We know in our heart of hearts that Master McGeady is not a Key Player.. although, others may believe that to be true.. we know bettah.
He is really a Lightweight.. sure he has soccer artistry but he does not know how to use his talents.. and. sady.. he NEVAH WULL~
So
We should cash in on the Gullibility of the Stranger.
same goes for...
Master Brown..
You know and I know, and even Lou knows, that Master Brown is a Brainless Wonder.
He rushes and fusses and Grimaces and goes Through all the motions..
but He still only manages to spin his wheels.
Any time in the Past Season.. when he did not play...
We did not MISS HIM, nor as a Matter Fact.. Neither, did we Miss, Master McGeady.
All I am saying is this.
We need a High Scoring and Reliable STRIKER.. and if you insist ... A Reliable Left Back.. and a more Commanding C.B...and icing on the Cake.. we need a replacement for Naka.
Right..
In order to achieve all of our wants. .
WE NEED MONEY!
Those Three Players that I mentioned ..again..
In My opinion..
ARE EXPENDABLE..
The money that their Transfer will bring in. .
COULD.. I said.. COULD..
Go a Long way, in us realizing our Wishes.

Thoughts on Nakamura
Great free kick specialist. Looking at his goals for Japanese club and country on youtube he seemed to score many more goals from open play.
Perhaps another Celtic player not being played to his strengths under the last manager. Too often a passenger.
Personally, I would have sold him after he scored the second freekick against Man U. Seems absurd that we get nothing from him. I wonder if this was part of the Naka deal that he would be allowed to walk away for nothing. Anyway...
Very polite but seemingly never bothered his backside to learn English. Surprised that it wasn't seen as something which would have been beneficial for playing purposes. I expect he will be speaking Spanish before too long.

In this discussion in which we we are indulging...Regarding Transfers Out.. before Transfers in..

In the REAL WOILD.
AS, in the Real World. There are no too many Kojos, About.

I have had many a debate on here sticking up for Stephen. Maybe im a bit sensitive like PFAYR when he sticks up for Artur against our first keeper to keep an away clean sheet in 14 months.
I read back and someone was saying who would the bigots pick on when Artur goes due to his blessing himself . Our new Bhoy in goal does it twice as much as Artur just walking onto the pitch but then again that was for another club not us.

what a pity WGS hasn't gone to another club, say Sunderland or the like....I suspect that is the only way we would have got rid of some of his players that we are now left with.
Where some these guys can go and get the same wages totally evades me.

I cant believe people are supporting this guy!! Faced with the opportunity of playing at Hamilton, Motherwell, Falkirk and in front of thousands of opposition fans mimicking Enola Gay in a jovial banter way at Ibrox, the challenge of the SPL, the lovely climate of the West of Scotland, he chooses to walk out on us for the backwater of La Liga living in the slums of Barcelona on a meagre £1.2M a year for 2 years!

totally agree regards selling artur.aiden.and scott. and like you tinytim, i cant think of any of our team .i wouldnt consider an offer for. i feel tony mowbury needs to stamp his mark on his team .he hasn,t been left with world beaters has he.i remember reading wullie shankleys book .and he stated that when he took over at liverpool .the first thing he did was get rid of 23 players.maybe a wee bit excessive but it didn,t half do the trick. Imho we have far to much dead wood about the club, players who have no future at celtic. but as i was told last time i mentioned this, it was no easy task getting rid of those on big wages and long contracts. still i would have a good go at telling them they were not in the first team plans .
Emusanorphan, you make an outstanding point.
Kojo,
Not sure i share your opinion on 'cool hand Luke'.
I thought he was absolutely shocking against the Hate in the last game of the season. His kicking was pathetic, aye, really really bad!! This was The Terrors biggest game of the season and he wizna up to it, he was nervous as hell!
How many bigger games will he get in the hoops? Heaps!!
Not trying to write him off before hes even kicked a ball for us and i know it was just one game but im a wee bit concerned.

Regarding the Fletch hear wee snippet tonight about him and Celtic. Seems January and 6 months on has not changed things regarding the price.
Kojo et al
This season we have started with the issue of selling one of the Big Value 4 to now selling three of them.
I know we are skint but the prices suggested make it look as if it is a fire sale and not a properly conducted asset management exercise.
For what its worth I fear things are just getting worse and worse. I fear PL has no credibility left with the mover and shaker on the board, DD as he is known and BTM is now paying the price.
AB for £6mill, bit of a comedown from last season when £10mill was the starting price for his wages auction and we spent good money increasing his wages and his wasteline so that we could increase his contacted seperation value.
PL take a bow for that one.
AMcG for £5mill? Shocker, SAF could take a punt at that price in the same vien as WGS took a DD inspired punt on PMcC for £100K.
AMcG is the one player in the UK who might grow up to fit CR's shadow. Not now but with a years encouragement, who knows?
The building blocks are all their, just a case the wiring is a bit mixed up. All that and you say £5mill?
If you think getting £5mill for AMcG represents good value for the club you definitely shouldn't be allowed out to Tesco on your own.
SB for £6mill? Where is the value in that? We were offered £8-9mill two years ago and that was without the latest EPL TV contract spicing things up a bit.
However the £17mill total you talk about is significant, it is the amount of money we need to keep the debt stable if another AMB scenario develops and give BTM the mythical £10mill for investment he needs.
We now are behaving like the slimmer who decides to cut off an arm and a leg to help him make his target. Unbelievable!
For the record:
AB to go for £8mill ASAP.
AMcG to go for £12mill in the last week of Aug if he has not taken to the new regime.
SB to be given a year to prove how good a player he can be in the right system.
SMcM to go for £2mill anytime.
AH to go for £3mill anytime.
GC to get real on the wage front.
So far this season we have lost out on the following:
JVoH = Gone for nothing.
SN = Gone for nothing.
PH = Gone for nothing.
Specifically £1.1mill lost in the space of 30 months on a player who was originally over 30 when bought just to thwart SDM after he outbid us at £2mill for a Hibee with a brain.
Another one to add to PL's increasing list of "Could do better" moments.
Just when is this all going to end?
At least Kojo says things are going swimmingly.

Sell 3 out of the Big Value 4?
Things must be really bad on the financial front if we have to resort to that level of selling at fire sale prices to get BTM some money for new players.
Shocking to need to sell.
Shocking to sell at that price.
Shocking that we can't let BTM do his job.

Marc-Antoine Fortune is mulling over whether to become Tony Mowbray's first signing after Celtic stepped up their bid to land the Nancy striker.
Fortune is expected to make a final decision on his future before the end of the week after the Parkhead club held further talks with his French employers to try to secure a deal reportedly worth around £3.8million.
Target man: Marc-Antoine Fortune during his looan spell at West Brom
The 27-year-old is also considering the personal terms on offer from various suitors, with Celtic and Hull City now the firm front-runners in the chase for his signature after Portsmouth, Wolves and Fulham were also linked with the former Utrecht forward.
Fortune has been aware of Hull's interest for more than a fortnight, but has stalled on accepting their offer until he knows what is on the table from the Parkhead club.
He has never hidden his desire to work again with Mowbray after a loan spell at West Bromwich Albion last season, but is also keen to land the best financial deal. 'The clubs are talking and we are discussing everything,' said Fortune's agent, Michael Manuello, yesterday.
'No deal has been struck yet but we're close. I'd expect a decision by the end of the week. Marc doesn't have to meet Tony Mowbray to know what it will be like to play for him at Celtic because he already knows the manager very well and trusts him.
'But he does have a choice to make. He has to weigh up all his options.'
Nancy president Jacques Rousselot confirmed the club expected to sell Fortune over the next few days after Celtic put forward their proposal.
'We are close to concluding a deal and I would hope it will be completed by the start of next week at the latest,' said Rousselot.
The Parkhead club have been linked with numerous players since Mowbray took charge, with Lazio playmaker Mourad Meghni one of the latest to join the list.
Shunsuke Nakamura has a l r e a d y d e p a r t e d for Espanyol, while Massimo Donati is likely to follow him through the exit door as Sampdoria lead a clutch of Serie A sides interested in the misfit midfielder.
Meanwhile, Burnley boss Owen Coy l e has joined Birmingham City's Alex McLeish in seeking to lure Bobo Balde to the English Premier League.
The Guinean defender's 28,000-per-week contract w i t h C e l t i c i s f i n a l l y approaching its end and he is set to continue his career south of the border.
Another player nearing the end of his Parkhead stay is Jean-Joel Perrier-Doumbe, who has lambasted former boss Gordon Strachan for his treatment over the last year.
Doumbe scored the winner in the 2007 Scottish Cup Final at the end of a successful loan spell, before fading from the first-team scene after signing a permanent deal. The full-back now b l a m e s S t r a c h a n fo r stymying his career.
'At the beginning, I was a regular starter in the league and the Champions League. I also scored the goal in the cup final,' said Doumbe.
'Everything was going well then I got injured against AC Milan in October 2007. I came back but the manager gave me a really hard time.
'Last summer, I asked to leave when the club signed Andreas Hinkel. But the manager refused and never played me again.
'Did I annoy him when I asked to leave? I don't know.
'I tried my luck again in January because Norwich, Coventry and Ujpest i n Hungary were interested. Again, he refused. Outcome? A season on the bench!

I agree that the figures we quote for selling CL level players is very light.
We end up buying 3rd tier level players like Cox for as much or more than we obtain for Scott, Aiden, Skippy or Artur. I don't mind selling one since Naka went for free but we need a more tempting fee than those sub £5m fees quoted.
How much for Jason Scotland who was deemed not good enough for a work permit in the SPL?
Sydney Tim, Mick Collins, Tom McL, Kit and others..
Ive recently discovered once in a life time free time, and thinking about visiting my Sis in Sydney..
Last summer she went in a huff
'You and yer mate go where Celtic play in Europe, why dont yous come over here for a visit?'
Our reply was 'When Celtic play in Oz we will be there.'
Safe bet we thought, now our team is playing there, I have free time and Im very close to jumping on a plane thinking Sydney, then off to the game.
How much is transport from Sydney to the game?
Is there any tickets? Sis says £100 flight.

Why do you baulk at £5 million for Aiden? And if we were offeed £6 million for AB I'd take an arm off. Truth is AB won't fetch that price and Aiden - well there were no offers - NO OFFERS - for him last year when he was apparently playing well.
Both these two lads are over rated and with everything to prove. Artur might well reach some heights - but Aiden? - forget about it. He has neither the ability nor the character.

Said earlier I was annoyed we didn't take some money for Naka last season.
We have not sold a first team player since Petrov and Maloney.
It was suggested on here under Strachan the club brought in £16m - I very much doubt we did. Rangers transfer incomings dwarf ours. While both Hibernian and Hearts sales are greater than ours.
Therefore if we do sell a couple of "stars" to try to move forward we cannot complain.
I would be opposed to selling Scott McDonald. The rest can go for the right money.

Good to see you are still living up to your name my good man! Anyone who thinks Aiden is worth £12m is frankly certifiable.
The financial siuation is not bad and nobody said we HAVE TO sell. Only you say that. As for "firesale"....well there is no comment required on that flight of fancy from yourself. A few have made the point that it would make sense to cash in on these players should an offer present itself.
Reading posts prior to commenting would help the lucidity of your points, although I fear not even that would help you...perhaps you want a loan of my "the end is nigh" sandwich board?

portents don`t look good
i am with you re Venus` statement
rather than the a professional cautious statement i am concerned that it is a primer for transfer market parsimony
no doubt we`ll get the usual gash about .....
inflated transfer prices driven by the EPL
not being able to match wages of players despite agreeing transfers
going for players ...really trying ...yes ..very trying indeed
clearly they are waiting to see what way the cards fall in Europe before spending ...otherwise why would Venus make statements about not being able to get players in before the qualifiers ...5 weeks away
i thought they had identified who they wanted ...so some are suggesting
look at the huns last season....gambled on CL qualification ...dumped out ..cost them a fortune
at least SDM took a punt ..it paid off for him
whilst we could take a punt ...it will be a cold day in hell before this happens at CFC
as for the transfer fees quoted
AB ..£5m is probably all that we`ll get ..take it before he slides further
AMG...£5m ...whit...Brum have just paid £5M for a CB from Cardiff whom i`ve never heard off ...consider Bentley ..circa £15m from Blackburn to Spurs ..who would you rather have
my concerns and fears are not being allayed
SydneyTim

Yarranabbe Bhoy,
I ordered my tickets by phone on 2 June. When they hadn't arrived I rang Ticketek last weekend. From what the guy said to me they've been surprised at the number of bookings - loads of block bookings apparently. He said if I hadn't received the tickets by a week before the game to contact them and they would arrange pick up at Suncorp Stadium on the day of the game.
Anyway, my tickets arrived by normal Aussie Post yesterday.

Smashin Milk Bottle: I need to get Gerry the Painters phone number.
Only two weeks and a couple of sleeps until kick-off. I hope the manager brings the best part of the first team and I hope they get stuck right into them; Charlie, Malky and Craig too.
I’m not too sure if there is going to be a full house but I was hearing today that the authorities are expecting between seven to ten thousand Celtic Supporters. Had it not been for the global recession and the fact that most Celtic supporters had already booked their summer holidays before the game was announced, then no doubt, knowing their addiction to the craic, that number could easily have been multiplied ten fold.
Well if the huns can talk dross numbers then so can I.
Michael Jackson - misunderstood musical genius or unconvicted child molester? Was he black, turning white or just attempting to look like Peter Pan? Should we feel sad or relieved that he has died?
I'm glad I am going to be away over the weekend - look out for wall to wall eulogies of Jacko, retrospectives of his career and commentators who pilloried him over the years coming out of the walls to explain how brilliant he really was.

Janko 6m
Owen (bosman- offer 20k per week + half of future sell on fee)
Total = Transfer fees of 7.35m - 9.5m + Wages
Funded by current budget + sale of Boruc, Brown or Mcgeady. My preference as you can see from team set up is to sell Mcgeady (reason probably most easily saleable for the most money 6-8m + add ons)
So to summarise- buy 2 left backs (Castillo + Robinson or Bosman), buy one defensive mid (Gomis/Stillic/Lewandowski/Nolan), loan playmaker Saviola
Buy Janko, sign owen on a dare I mention it Boumsong type deal, where player gets large chunk of future transfer fee.
Sell McGeady or Brown or Boruc.
Maybe re-sign Balde on reduced salary say 15k pw. Certainly a very good backup & if old man Weir can play SPL football at 39/40 years old so can Bobo.
Fee agreed with Nancy for Fortune also
£3.8million
lot of dosh

At that price, i'd sell.
Michael Jackson - yawn. I'd rather have a songs debate!
Celtic4orme: Gomis before the huns do. We have been warned (nb. prediction not rumour).
Don't sell Skippy or give up on Brown (Mogga got the best out of him last time).
Where are the signings????
Is this post delay a moderator thing ;-)
