Celtic Park the weapon of choice to destroy Dynamo
Two years ago I called a Champions League qualifier our Summer Cup Final. That was a third round qualifying game against Spartak Moscow, a round Celtic have not yet reached this season, but if anything, our second qualifying round tie against Dynamo Moscow is even more important.
From an income, coefficient point and sporting perspective, the Champions League and Europa Cup offer different rewards and challenges, but they are more subtle than absolute, however, progress against Dynamo must be achieved if Celtic are to be sure of competing in the group stages of either tournament.
I hear so many positive comments about Tony Mowbray it is hard to reconcile the fact that he has yet to deploy his team at Celtic Park. New recruits have been secured, the preparatory work has gone well, but at 19:45 tonight all that counts for nothing. Dynamo Moscow will be prepared to throw bodies into the path of anything thrown at them, they will tackle hard, compete for everything and hope to hurt Celtic on the break.
There are some clear concerns for both sides.
You and I are going to be exhausted watching this game and the Celtic players will face a real physical challenge as the game enters its latter stages. A good first half, a good hour, will count for nothing if coordination goes late on when limbs fail to respond as required. Tonight will be very much a squad game.
Despite being without first choice regulars Stephen McManus and Scott Brown, Celtic's squad will not be as depleted as Dynamo Moscow's. Dynamo are expected to field one of the youngest teams Celtic are likely to face this season; if the home team are vulnerable late in the game, the visitors could be in for a torrid time if Celtic Park casts its European spell.
Right from kick-off we have to let them know they are in hostile territory. You and I have watched enough football to know that Celtic Park is a unique weapon which has provided a team with one of the worst away records in Europe with one of the best home records.
Let them have it from the off. Sing loud, sing long and lift the souls of a one or two players who will make their competitive débuts. A relentless offensive for the opening 45 minutes will provide Celtic with a tangible competitive advantage.
Good luck, Tony.

Podium?
Here's hoping for the usual, fervent support for tonight's enormously-important game.
Hard to believe some of the dark mutterings about the club "fleecing the fans".
In the league we contest we ourselves are Celtic's primary source of income.
If the money does not come from the fans buying tickets and merchandise, where is it to be found?
And our other role, as drivers, encouragers of the team on the pitch will be crucial tonight.
Lets get right, and right noisily, behind The Bhoys tonight !
have they announced something to do with the espn fixtures?
i thought i read about gordon strachan being one of the pundits is that true?

WHEN...........YOU...........WALK.........THROUGH....A...STORM
I really hope we have sold above 50k for tonight we need an atmosphere. We've seen the fear we can instill in teams like Man U and Barca as they stand in the team line up and we are singing.
I can't wait for tonight as I've said I've not felt this level of anticipation for the last two years. Don't get me wrong I was always there expecting us to win or put in a good fight but who among us can say they would turn up at Celtic Park thinking they were possibly about to witness some truly special football?
I think we could get that, but i don't want to get carried away, this will be tough!
Anton Mor has something about him, I can't quite put my finger on it but the man has an aura about him that only a few managers in football seem to have...

Yes WGS and Neil McCann are the pundits for SKY. A commentator I've never heard of, Craig Burley and Ray Stubbs are the ESPN team.
I hope SKY have got Crocker as the commentator, it wouldn't be the same without him! Who can forgot him nearly wetting himself as Henrik chipped the ball over klos... 'Henrik Larsson...THAT..WAS..SENSATIONAL...

From previous - It's funny, and maybe it's just because Dynamo Moscow is a more famous name than say Jeunesse Esch but this feels much more like a 'proper' European game, rather than just a qualifier. I'm a wee bit excited already.
The start of a new season; the start of another chapter in our Club's great history.
I can't wait; my scarf has been washed and my lucky socks have been salvaged from their close season obscurity.
I can't wait.

jinkybhoy.
Aren't you going to the game tonight.
jinkysbhoy probably is...:)
Excellent summary of the situation Paul. This is the moment we have been waiting for: the return to competitive action. It's been a long close season, or maybe it just felt so long becuase of the way the last season ended. And we have had plenty to keep our minds on football. But this is a real game and that's what we all thrive on.
We,the fans, have a part to play tonight. YNWA pre-game must set the tone and we need to create the type of atmosphere that we can when we are at the top of our game.
Team selection will be crucial. We've talked a few times about the options open to our new manager. He has seen his players inaction on the training ground and in a few friendlies. Now is the time for him to make his first proper selection.
9 hours 22 minutes until kick off ...

i totally agree,i havent washed my scarf since the day i bought it,that was almost 18 years ago, mind you it is getting a bit stiff:)))))

p.s i was talking about the scarf, what dirty minds you lot have:))
Have my ticket in my wallet. Have a change of clothes withe me at work. Celtic scarf in the glove box of the car. Full tank of petrol and an early finish. I'm absolutely raring to go tonight.
We need to raise the roof tonight as this game is vital for so many reasons. European football has been amazing over the past 10 years and it would be awful to miss out this season. European football gives us a huge pay cheque. Our failure to qualify would give our rivals a bigger pay cheque. And the sudden loss of the pre-season feel good factor could have an impact on our SPL start.
Conversely, a good win leaves us with a foot in the next round. It gives the team confidence that we can reach the group stages no matter who we draw. (Remember Ajax?) And it turns up the heat at Snake Mountain where natives are already restless at the lack of transfer business.
Let the people sing. (And lets keep the songs going throughout the season this time!)
Craiginho
O a slightly different note now that Sky has been mentioned. I had a call from Sky yesterday asking if I would like to subscribe to the new ESPN Channel for £9.99 a month to watch English Premier and SPL games.
When I asked how many SPL games would be on this channel they told me 30 per season, the first two games for Celtic fans are away to Hibs and then away to St Mirren.
Only saving grace is that all games will be in HD so what a difference that will make versus the Setanta coverage.
Will be there tonight to cheer on the Bhoys.
Mon The Hoops!

Old Tim- I'll be there, along with Subterranean and Moonbeams, and the rest of the ContinuityCQN.
I see you're staying in Abode- we stayed there for Springsteen.
The cooked breakfast is excellent.
Very impressed with Tony Mowbray's comments (as reported in the Scotsman). Talks positively and very sensibly.
Personally, I am very concerned that Dynamo are well into their league season, which means that they are so much further forward in match fitness than ourselves. Mind you, I always fear the worst on these occasions. Let's hope our team give as good an account of themselves as they can and that every single fan who can make the match gives their all too.

Its in the red tops today, no mention of SKY commentator though.
DD
Apparently that ***** Derek Rae will be commentating on ESPN for SPL games
WGS,
I never got the impression that Strachan was quite that childish. He's a awful lot more mature than your average blogger....
By the way, I'm no detractor, but if Killen starts you'll want to see my face too. Hope he gets goals and all that, but i genuinely hope he isn't our first choice striker. O'dea has to start on account of injuries and suspensions... Oh good grief what am i doing? Still having to stick up for our former manager.
This has been a grim period in our history, and i am referring to the Strachan baiting that continues to go on.
Is there any possibility that we can move on? It has long since passed the point where it is in bad taste.
Anyway, moving on....
Excited about tonight, but genuinely apprehensive. This will be a tough game - one which i'd say we were favourites for in normal circs, but given that its our first game and there are a couple of newbies in the team i'm concerned.
It wouldn't take much for tonight to be a disaster - there will be a lot of pressure on the two centre mid players, and Fortune and Cox.
I'm not sure what the general expectation is, but judging by the last 12 months i'd guess a fair proportion of our support are expecting a good win tonight topped off by an outstanding TM performance at the post match press conference. Personally i think a good result is anything equal to or better than a result which keeps the tie alive for the return. So, clean sheet first.
Anyone know if the game in Moscow is on that plastic pitch again?
Does anyone know which SkySports channel will be showing our games?
andy bhoy

‘........despite being without first choice regulars Stephen McManus and Scott Brown,’
Interesting that you don’t mention Robson.
Know you appreciated his contribution in the 2007-2008 run-in, I believe he was a big miss for us at the end of last season, do you think he will be a forgotten mhan this year? I think he can still do a job for us, still in my first team.
It’s strange what a difference a week makes – this time last week we were v. Concerned about drawing Dynamo Moscow & wondered who, how, what can be done to get the fitness, the choice of players and shape of the team ready for TODAY – Well, we wouldn’t have imagined how much confidence Tony Mowbray could instil in us.
Looking forward to another great performance, some great goals and just as important - another clean sheet!

Morning Bhoys,
Very long time lurker on this board - great job P67.
As I say, long time lurker but felt compelled to say something on tonight's match. Please put aside any grumbles you may have with the board and get behind the team tonight.
I have been shocked by some of the comments on here about the 'board fleecing the fans' and 'this game should have been free with ST'. Whether they are valid or not is besides the point. We need to unite behind our team tonight and show them we are buying into what they are trying to do. What will the players feel walking out to thousands of empty seats??
I know I am probably stepping on some toes here but I don't mean to. If you can't make it due to commitments of prices then fine, I understand. But making a point to the board tonight when the team needs us most is counter productive.

What Ive heard from an interview with the European chief executive of ESPN is that they are going to package the football (soccer), with the best of US sports, so it wont just be EPL or SPL, but all the Baseball, Basketball and NFL as well to make the package worth while (in her terms I wouldnt open my curtains to watch US sports)
soldierbhoy - that is good news for me. I am on Virgin Media XL and I was really not very happy at the prospect of completly losing the SPL. I just was not prepared to pay the money for Sky Sports. I don't have enough spare time to justify it. So I am happy I will at least be able to see some of the games on ESPN. I wonder if they will have any of the games at Mordor or whether all OF games will be on Sky?
Great news about Virgin media. I was just about to cancel. Any news about Celtic TV. Thats why I got the Virgin package in the first place. Getting Setanta was just a bonus.

RE ESPN
I don't think they have any live NFL, but they do have great regular season live baseball and some post season play off games too.
It will feel odd watch soccer on this channel, and even more weird listening to Derek Rae.
Channel 67 ghuys! I have just tried to subscribe. It tells me I need to pay £40 up front. What about this 4.99 a month business or a fiver for a months trial period that I have been reading about?
Is that not available to 'UK'(sic) dwellers like me here in the occupied part of Ireland?
It's nights like these I wish I could persuade my missus that we should live in Scotland. But it ain't gonna happen!!
Anyway, I am not paying £40 for, essentially, one game which my briadband may or may not allow me to view properly. I will quite happily pay for the month, maybe two, but not the full year.
Have I done something wrong in the registration process or am I condemned to listening to the game on the wireless? (Nice the way that Wireless can now actually mean two things but also end up with the same end product, you with me?) Is it even on the radio?

' As well as Major League Soccer, Rae also lent his expertise to ESPN’s Champions League coverage – they have since lost the rights to Fox Sports – and hosts a weekly magazine show, PressPass.
The Aberdeen-born broadcaster famously got his break at 19 when an injury to his idol, David Francey, enabled him to make his debut for BBC Scotland, covering Kilmarnock v Dumbarton. He was subsequently hired to cover Scotland v England in the Rous Cup and his career blossomed.
Last night, Francey, one of the most popular commentators of his generation, welcomed the news. “I am delighted to hear there is a chance of Derek coming back to commentate on Scottish football,” he told The Herald.
“Even when he was a young man making his way in the business I liked his style. He followed my own style, which was to follow the ball and try to capture the occasion. When I heard him at first I thought: ‘He is going to be good’.
“There is so much live football these days that, sadly, people would rather watch than listen but to have Derek back would certainly make Scottish football more enjoyable for me and a lot of other fans in this country.”
Subscription to ESPN will cost £12.99 per month but the cost of watching live Scottish Premier League football is set to more than triple, from last season’s monthly figure of £12.50 for Setanta, to £44.50.
Viewers who subscribed to Setanta last season could receive every single live Scottish Premier League game on offer. The new deal with Sky Sports and ESPN means that viewers will also have to subscribe to both Sky Sports channels – they will have the rights to Old Firm games – at £31.50 per month.
The deal, for an initial three-year period, will involve the two broadcasters sharing 60 live games per season'

We need to get all the new bhoys blooded with a great atmospheric backing of the team. Hopefully the fans do their part to have our new players advertising the beauty of playing for such a club and support in all of next week's European media, which will help with further recruits. We all know how important this and the next game are for the club. The players who faltered in the league finale last year know this is the appropriate time and place to make amends.
Another special night and a new era I reckon, if your swithering, go, if you're going you already know what it's all about. Let's enjoy ourselves, fans and players, as we always should. It's the game we all enjoy and that Celtic can play as well as any despite any financial handicaps. New glory awaits.
weeminger - thanks. In other words they did what I was going to do! I didn't realise this was an abuse. Is it a credit agreement people are getting in to? I suspect not. therefore how is it an abuse?
I would regard this as a lot of £5 notes that would have gone to Celtic now going elsewhere. I wouldn't have dreamt of C67 if the game wasn't on it. I suspect an awful lot of other people are going to think twice about paying £40 for one live game.
There is a demand for PPV. I hope this is the way we will go when the SKY ESPN fiasco runs its course.
To tell the truth I am pretty peeved about this. If celtic had deliberately set out to annoy their long distance supporters they couldn't have handled this any better. I know they didn't but that is the end result.
Is it on the radio?
You know that sinking feeling you get when you just realise that you won't be getting to watch an important Celtic match? well that's me right now. No wonder people look for illegal links to live games.
Does anyone know what BT Vision are doing to replace their Setanta offering? I paid £10 (or £9?) for a one-off viewing card to view Setanta. BTV e-mailed me after setanta went down, to say they would be trying to organise something, but so far I've heard nothing.
DD - I did wonder what kept you going back to the games after all your complaining about the football last season! Now we know.
donegaldanny,
I am with you on the sound girl, painted jeans and furry boots, here's hoping?
roberttressell
I heard it was to do with bandwidth to limit the amount of people that are subscribing, but as I suspect it is just Celtic trying to fleece us. You are correct under the credit agreement you could subscribe for one month and cancel. I bet you can again after the game.
Wee Red @ 11:17
Well said mate. Let's make this a night to remember!

robertressel - I don't know if it was an abuse of the system or not, that's just what had been written previously.
For me it sounds like the system was set-up incorrectly. The club should have made the minimum contract the length of the season with monthly payments option and savings of a £5 for those that opted to pay in a lump sum.
roberttressell on July 29, 2009 11:20 AM
Towards the end of the season it did feel like there had to be something other than the football getting us back to the games!!:-)
BigJock
The very one! Simply superb!
DD
roberttressell,
the game is on the usual "illegal in some countries" P2P feeds.
I was toying with the idea of getting CH67 Premium also but until I am convinced that it is a better service than the P2P feeds I´ll hold fire.
Was an interesting debate on how entrenched we are in The Old Firm last night and I agree with the general consensus.
May I wish those Celtic debut ants particularly all the best for tonight. I include naturally the new management team in that. Lets hope that none of them freeze from the weight of expectation placed upon them tonight. Any players looking at empty stand sections will know that it´s a testament to their efforts from last season and hopefully will realise that they need to perform better. Ditto our Board.
I worry about the level of expectation placed upon this team tonight. I hope that Tony Mowbary´s reign is not scarred and maligned in the same way that Gordon Strachan´s was after Artmedia. MON never got passed Bordeaux in his first season but got it right after that and so did Gordon Strachan. We need to be patient and keep faith with our young players and Tony Mowbary´s new reign no matter what the outcome is of this tie.
Hail Hail
Andybhoy & Robertressell
Do you KNOW it's Celtic who 'are trying to fleece' you? Maybe it's the company providing the coverage. I don't know the intrinsic details of Ch67 but I would guess that it's probably operated by a 'silent partner' badged as a Celtic product. Otherwise, Celtic might have bid for the setanta channel if they had the technical capability of transmitting matches.
robertressell
You wouldn't be paying £40 for one live game; it gives you all future games as well. I don't have Ch67 myself, but just surmising.
Hail Hail
Andybhoy - they are looking for £40 up front. I wouldn't like to take the chance that they will refund in part. and the sad reality is that I don't have £40 to spare until friday when the whole money merry-go-round, in one end out the other wages arrive.
I am in bad form about this. I don't have too many vices. celtic is probably it. A very occasional beer. honest, hard working family man, Always flippin' skint. have to remortgage the house every time I want to visit Celtic Park.
Stuff this.
Enjoy the game tonight ghuys all the same.
I see our former manager will still be with us this season!
http://www.thesun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/news/2560370/Ali-Douglas-and-Gordon-Strachan-to-present-SPL-coverage.html
Jack_Bauer's_a_Tim
There are no league games on CH67 live, only audio and then shown at midnight after game, whats the point of that, you will be able to see them repeated constantly on sky anyway.
ANNAOAN - Celtic's debut ants are much stronger than you'd expect for their size.
awe naw, for someone who incessantly rambles negatively on and on and on and on and on and on this blog about our board and fiscal behaviour I am gobsmacked you chose to use illegal streaming sites rather than pay our club money for legal coverage.
hmmmmm
During the close season I was discussing, with a Rangers supporting colleague, the good fortune which is often enjoyed by our city rivals in european draws, and the like.
I jokingly suggested that they would probably scrape Pot 2 status and get Seville, Copenhagen and those giants of Unirea in their group this season which would enable possible progression to last 16 and a fair few £££s from picking up points along the way...
This seemed outrageous at the time however Sparta's win last night gives them good hope of being 1 of the 3 upset results needed in the next 2 rounds to guarantee Pot 2.
I reckon Twente might take care of Sporting which would mean if Celtic were to win through to the Group stages and so knock out another higher seeded team we would inadvertantly help our rivals to an elevated 2nd Pot status.
I hope we have that dilema !

It's not a GS baiting i had in mind when i posted. What i was trying to say that everybody and i mean everybody could see our demise on the cards from after the win at Ibrox. We where even struggling before then and some sort of change in personnel in the team was required and maybe give some people a chance. However, regardless of the size of squad he peservered with the same 11 guys regardless of performance and injury. People knew they were playing if they were playing rubbish.
I don't think Killen is that great a player, however, we never seen him over the two season he was there. He never even made the bench FFS, even although our strikers could not hit a barn door. He was punted down to Norwich and punted back up the road as Bryan Gunn dones a GS and didn't use him although he brought him in.
Donati???? He showed at the start that he looked a player. Him and Brown were getting an understanding, then all change Hartley was introduced to the centre, Brown out right when Naka was injured, struggled with form, lost his confidence and i far as i was concerned he was gone. Especially after the Queens Park game. He was shocking that day. Boy confidence was shot to bits and looked like a scalded cat. Both players then get introduced to show what they could do this pre season and they have taken to the challenge. They are bursting a gut to make it. Not saying they are the answer or they will, but there hunger is back for some reason. Probably was their all along but it was never either used or developed properly.
I still maintain that if Mizuno and McCourt were named subs in the run for that wee bit impact, it would have helped us over the line. Especially the game against Hibs when we needed somebody direct running from the middle like two of the could do.
That game at Easter road was crying out for someone in the midddle to run into all the space driblle past a couple and open hibs up. Instead we went the predictable route out wide, launched into the box and Rob Jones won everything.
I think when GS takes in our games and watches us now, i think it will finally hit home to him that if he had done this and that and maybe given certain people a chance, then he might have got a team he wanted.
I keep going back to it, but after that game in the San Siro O'Dea career should have taken off just like John Kennedys was about to until that injury. Kennedy waltzed the nou camp then ibrox. O'Dea walzed the San Siro then dropped for Pressley against Rangers, never to be seen again for over a year.
Andybhoy
Didn't realise that; it doesn't seem much of a deal then :-(
JBAT
andy bhoy - Cletic are really missing a trick here. they would, IMO, have got a decent amount of one off subscribers for this month. People, as I said, who wouldn't normally buy C67. As you say, it has little to offer the SKY subscriber once the league starts. They would hve kept a number of those extra subscribers through (a) enjoying the product (b) people forgetting to cancel or being too lazy to do so.
I am usually a happy clapper/ board apologist but on this occasion someone needs to be shot at dawn.
Ferdo Kev,
You read that report - and want to talk about Gordon Strachan rather than Abi Douglas???
Boys and girls - another announcement from the club anticipating great big queues tonight.
So the advice is, if you arrive in town early go and get your tickets first and worry about a pie and a pint later.
Burnley - thanks for making a bad morning worse. their luck in the draw is incredible. I wish i could swear on here. I wuld say %&*& 'em.
Is Abi Douglas related to Rab Douglas?
GJ
I was letting the photo image speak for itself! At least we can be distracted when the usual drivel is getting discussed in the studio.
roberttressell
I suppose it is marketing nous, Pay £40 for game or turn up at stadium and pay £25, to guarantee a full house.
need info, when are our fourth round dates, presumine we win this round ??
Weeminger,
When I put debutants together my spell checker complains. It offers me debut-ants or debut ants - who am I to take on a spell checker
mountain_bhoy,
When did the Greta Garbo lessons start ? LOL
And thats exactly why. You shouldn´t forget the two season tickets that I did not renew this summer either and my refusal to buy any more Celtic merchandise although my son did concede that the bumble bee strip looks like BVB so he´s not that bothered. and if I get a good p2p feed then I´ll not subscribe to ESPN.
I have increased my shareholding in Celtic plc however as an alternative private strategy.
HAil Hail
Its Ali Douglas and she aint that nice, it amazing what make up can do, Ive met her before, she used to kick about with Artur Neuman and was the anchor of R*****s TV, although the sun just says Setanta. Same old unbiased reporting and commentary, they might change the company.....
Rougue,
My understanding is that Sky have all the OF games and ESPN will be showing away OF games.
This entire TV deal is an absolute disgrace, not only leaving fans out of pocket at a time when money is tight but utter confusion leading to all sorts of questions about what channels showing what games on what platform. This will undoubtedly lead to many fans and supporter living without their means either by mistake or blind loyalty.
A truly disgraceful state of affairs and the blame should be laid fair and square at the feet of the diddy clubs in the SPL who rejected the good offer from SKY and sold out to Setanta when the OF and Aberdeen to their credit said no.Lex Gold...don't get me started.......they have the audacity to moan about how money is tight, look at the situation THEY ahve created......they have made their bed let them lie in it!!!!! We Will Be Here Long After They Have Gone.
Rant Over.
Right, I’m offski (as opposed to a ruski), home for a quick change pick up the son and into Blackpool to catch the bus to Glasgow.
YNWA loud and proud tonight bhoys n ghirls.

Hail Hail
soldierbhoy,
Are you really saying that fans can't cope with games being on one of two different tv channels? Or that the clubs should not have accepted the only bid that was on the table?
Morning Ah'll
I have been reading back unsuccessfully trying to find the details surrounding the CH67 offer for tonights game.
Can anyone summarise?
can we watch in the uk?
Kittoch
You can watch tonights game in UK for £40, but you dont get league games.
Anyways, got to head out shortly.
Many happy returns to excellent CQNer Cadizzy.
Fingers crossed Tony Mowbray gets off to a flier.
Lucky you Vmhan.
Andybhoy - I see what you mean but midweek, holiday time ain't the easiest for those of us on the other side of the Irish Sea. believe you me if I was in Scotland this week I would be there with green and white bells on.
Another thing, this UK thing is peeing me off too. there is a bloody great big sea between Ireland and Scotland. go and look at the price of a ferry these days.
Gordon,
My point is it should have never have got to this point, the SKY deal should have been accepted instead of the Setanta deal. Instead of security and maximum exposure on SKY at a good price they got greedy and went with Setanta without due dilligence.
As for the fans and the different channels, if the questions on this site are indicative of the confusion then no they can't cope. There is no clarity and finacially fans are being asked to pay two separate platforms for the same product.....Where else and what other product does such an arrangement exist...rubbish for the working man.
Soldierbhoy, that is not the case.
I posted this on a few occasion last week, but for those that have missed it, see below.

As you can see, 11 games announced, and 7 ESPN being shown to 4 Sky.
This immediately got me thinking that Sky will no doubt claim most of the "meaningful" matches towards the latter part of the season.
Clever.
roberttressell
I totally agree, Im sure it will be on Interweb somewhere though
meant to add to that - the UK thing - those of us in Ireland, albeit still administered by the British, need to be treated more positively when it comes to live coverage of games on TV. Setanta 'Ireland' used to block certain games for those of us in the Six Counties.
I am turning in to a raging torrent of anger and high blood pressure. I hear the garden calling if it isn't lashing with rain. And that's another thing, why can't Celtic improve the weather in my area and also send me any un spent transfer cash to ease my financial burdens? It is the least they can do.
MrAngryCSC
Dundee Perth,
Sorry have i missed something....ESPN will be mainly showing OF away games and the OF games will be on SKY...?
does any body know if you can subscribe to ESPN without having Sky sports and if so how much will it be , me and my mate are thinking about splitting the costs
confusion reigns over the tv deal. Only thing not confusing is we'll be fleeced over it as usual.
read back through the thread Kittochbhoy. you'll soon discover the craic with the Ch67 'deal'. How to win friends and influence people Celtic style.
andy - better watch all that talk of live streamings;) I'm off to google to look for something. don't know what. it'll come to me when I leave this site where such things do not exist.
I'm away for the rest of the day. too much of this is not good for me.
WGS on July 29, 2009 11:35 AM
Great point about O'Dea. I was in the San Siro that night and you could see a star in the making. Really rate this kid and hope he gets a fair crack of the whip under BTM - nice touch making him captain on Sunday!! He has never let us down (unless he is played at right back at Ipox)
Hail Hail
OR
greenyin - £12/month if you don't have skysports, £9/month if you do.
soldierbhoy,
Agree totally that we shouldn't have been in in this situation - but it happened and what was the alternative to accepting the joint bid?
There may be some confusion now, but the new ESPN channel hasn't even launched yet. And Dundee Perth's post at 11:57am seems pretty clear to me.
You guys, if no-one watches the games (or at least pays for them), this deal will go as well and then there will be no TV coverage at all.
Setanta's coverage of the SPL was great, and financed sensibly. It was only when they bit off more than they could chew by jumping into bed with the EPL that they got in trouble - no-one was paying, everyone was doing the illegal stuff, and they couldn't recoup the outlay. When they just had the SPL, they could afford it because people were happy to pay for a product. People like me, who wanted to watch EPL football (and darts and other stuff you get on Sky) as well as the SPL had to pay for two packages back then as well. Many fans of EPL teams last year voted with their wallets against paying twice, and they are being asked to do the same again this year (with the money going to ESPN, who can hopefully suck up the inevitable losses more than Setanta can), this "paying for two services" is not a new thing. But if no-one pays, why would they keep showing it? Whose coverage do you think you are watching illegally through the internet?
WGS,
You make many good points. I've become a little frazzled by the relentless Strachan attacks - it has, to my mind, somewhat undermined our good guys status. If that wasn't your intention then i apoligise.
I don't think we can blame Strachan for Killen - he was injured when he came and got injured not long after. I think we and the player made a massive miscalculation in agreeing a deal whilst he was out with a long term injury.
I rate Donati, but again felt Strachan wasn't the problem, at least not initially. A lot of people, fans and media were responsible for abusing his confidence. Strachan gave him plenty of support through the first few months of this abuse. I think a few decent players have suffered unfair abuse recently - Donati, Sno, Caldwell, Naylor and Telfer to name a few. Most of the abuse has been excessive and unreasoned. In the case of Caldwell it now appears to be ridiculous. I think Strachan was supportive of each of these players initially and stuck by them during periods when they could do nothing right in 'our' eyes.
I do, however, agree completely regarding O'Dea. Whilst it's probably not appropriate to assume too much based on one game - he was so good in the San Siro that night that i would have given him the run he deserved too.
There are always different ways to look at things.... We could look back at Strachan's reign and say there was some exceptional success and he left a legacy of talented players which TM, i hope, can mould into an even better team.
If i were Strachan i wouldn't be sitting with my head in my hands watching future Celtic teams with his players doing well - whether they were his first picks or not. I'm pretty sure Strachan doesn't see it quite the same way many of our fans do.... damn it, i'm doing it again, defending Strachan.
I'm looking forward to this and that player proving Strachan or the fans wrong and helping TM build a great team. I'd contend that thanks to Strachan we have the bones of a good team in place. I'm sure TM has said as much too.
thanks weeminger, gerryg if your lurking gies an email
Soldier.
Not missed anything but three out of four Sky games are Celtic and Rangers away, therefore a it's not as clear as to say ESPN are showing Old Firm away games.
Gordon J,
Dundee Perth's post opens with 'Soldierbhoy, that is not the case'
then lists the fixtures with all OF away games being listed on ESPN and the OF game on SKY as i stated at 1145hrs......so it seems pretty clear to me that Dundee Perth is not clear with what i have said. He is concuring with what i believe to be the case....FFs i'm off to the gym..lol
oneantonrogan,
Whose coverage do you think you are watching illegally through the internet?
Dinamo Moscows - and I thank them for it.
Hail Hail
Channel67s £40 charge is for the whole season, every game after midnight, and all the interviews, you can watch excerpts of every game going back to 2003.
I know you know all these benefits, but some had to put Celtic in a bad light by accusing them of charging £40 for to watch the game. The reason they changed from direct debit Payments of £4.99pm was some people abused the system, watched the Cardiff game then cancelled their agreements,A lot of unnecessary work for Celtic & the Banks.
One last thing (Columbo style!)
I pay £18 a month for a basic Sky Package. Used to pay 9.99 for Setanta. Total a penny shy of £29 for every Celtic league game.
I now pay £18 for basic Sky with no Sports.
£9 for ESPN
£31.50 for SKY (total Package?)
Total £40.50
So I can expect to pay an extra £11 a month to watch Celtic while Celtic get half what they were previously getting from televised football. Somebody is having a laugh. His name is Rupert Murdoch. Papal Knight. What a joke.
Thoroughly fed up with the whole situation.
Well it all looks again as if its the Supporter who suffers. More money and 12.30 kickoffs
Awe-naw, aye this time, maybe. But every Setanta game that someone watched last year rather than fronting for the actual product is one less viewing figure for actual Setanta, hence why they couldn't attract advertisers, hence why they failed and we're grabbing crumbs off any passing table.
Can't tell you how excited I am that it's starting again tonight. Just reminds me what a joy and a honour it is to be a Celtic fan.
Andybhoy, marketing nous? If it is a strategy for getting a full house, it also has the massive effect of drawing in unknown extra thousands of pounds on the back of this one game. The PLC have seen an opportunity for more cash, and have not hesitated to take advantage of us. And if that was part of their thinking, they deserve pelters. IF the feed for tonight's game in anyway wavers, is laggy or of poor quality, I shall be making a huge stink to get my money back. I don't like being taken for a mug.
Also, if this sort of thing continues and the SKY Sports/ESPN nonsense isn't sorted out immediately, those P@P sites will suddenly be a lot more popular. If the money-grabbers continue to grab our money, well meaning non-criminal football fans will watch the games via these sites with diminishing guilt.
Guy's i know i post a lot of players, but in belive this guy would finish our attack. Fortune, Maloney, McGeady and this guy would see us have the mother of all attacks.

Am I missing something?
Saturday August 15 - Aberdeen v Celtic
Live on Sky Sports, kick-off 12.45pm
Sunday August 23 - Hearts v Rangers
Live on Sky Sports, kick-off 12.45pm
Saturday September 12 - Motherwell v Rangers
Live on Sky Sports, kick-off 12.15pm
Old Tim - I asked weeminger and I'll ask you - how was paying for one month on a non-credit agreement deal an abuse? It isn't an abuse. It was a way of collecting alot of fivers from people who wouldn't normally pay for CH67. I know you get all those other things but I used to get them on Celtic TV and to tell the truth I don't miss it enough to pay £40 for them.
I would gladly have parted with a fiver to watch tonights game. I don't think that is an 'abuse' and I don't think the ghuys who paid a fiver to watch the Cardiff game were 'abusing' CH67 either.
And God love those poor bankers and CH67 employees having to do their work.
Would anyone else on here have foresaken the whole TV deal issue for the pleasure of an away match at 3PM ON A SATURDAY?
Last one of them was 1.10.2005 at Livvy if im not mistaken.
oneantonrogan on July 29, 2009 12:17 PM,
yup thats one way of looking at it.
Hail Hail
awe naw, oh dear... by buying more shares you are only lining the pocket of the person (or robbing them of course) who sold, not celtic fc plc, so what your admitting to is self interest, not celtic fc plc interest..
i will now bypass your posts, like I do kojo's, DD's, madmitch and moonbeams wet dreams
and of course I am joking, you are a welcome thorn in the side of this blog and ive met you and can vouch for the fact your a not an erse in real life (and I have said so to cqners i have met in the real world)
Dundee Perth,
Can you here the sound of a penny dropping.
feedthebhear, I was about to make a similar comment, about the days when you had to listen to the radio, when the club wasn't available on TV for every game to the highest bidder, when you couldn't just duck off going to the game because your local had a satellite dish with a link to Polsat/Al Jazeera. We've been spoiled rotten here, and now that folk are being asked to pay for the privilege (same as fans of EPL teams and sports fans in general have been doing for the last few season), they are chucking their toys out the pram.
If I couldn't get to the game tonight, I wouldn't have much qualms about spending £40 on TV coverage (including highlights for the rest of the year), that's pretty much what I'll be spending today between petrol, ticket and refreshments. Especially when that £40 is going to the club and not the mine host in BBs :-)

There are no league games on CH67 live, only audio and then shown at midnight after game, whats the point of that, you will be able to see them repeated constantly on sky anyway.
------------------
Will sky/ESPN also show the home games ? C67 will show the home game in full after midnight.
Too late by the looks of it. Was afree agent but snapped up by Porto.
On June 30, 2009, Falcao's contract with River Plate expired making him a free agent. FC Porto signed Falcao for three years apparently.
FREE AGENT AS WELL. NEED TO GET THAT CHECKED!!
StevieNoBread
No home games, you are not allowed to show homes games live that are shown at 3 pm on a saturday in the UK

Sounds like to me you have made up your mind.

Tonights game is the price we pay for being an integral part, and today we are evidently the main player, in the Old Firm.

I think Celtic / CH67 are missing a trick tonight. I can see them not wanting to offer the game as PPV as they may want actual bums on seats but there are ALOT of people who would pay Celtic £5 - £10 to watch the game tonight. Plenty of folk from Ireland / England who through logistics or work can't make midweek Euro games, these guys would have no use for the full years CH67 service as they will use Sky /ESPN for away games and likely be at home games. I mean a guy in my work, a season ticket holder, can't go tonight as his kid is sick. He would happily have shelled out a fiver to watch the game on his laptop. Also what about the Dinamo fans? Plenty would pay us £5 I am sure to watch the game.
Celtic are missing the chance for a good few sheckles tonight...
Channel 67 is a bargain at 4.99 per month, had it for the last couple of seasons.
The previous games are good, but the best parts are the interviews with the board members, players, both old and new and also with the manager, in a more relaxed style.
I often use the quotes from these interviews, to shut up or put other 'supporters' on the right line.
Its usually a easy argument to win, the quotes out of context in the paper, the 30 seconds of VT shown on STV or the stuff that the phone ins use V me who just watched the full 20 minutes.
There are a few on here, that maybe should sign up.
Get your info from Celtic, dont believe the red tops / phone ins or STV.
Could MON be putting out the feelers for the Man City job?

Oldtim67... unnecessary work for Celtic and the banks? Are you serious? I'd gladly take on extra work if thousands of people sent me £4.99. Don't feel guilty for stopping people taking your money, under the pretence that it gives them work. It's OUR money man!
Feedthebhear... is that right - 1.10.2005 at Livvy was our last Saturday 3pm away game? Unbelievable. Those tv guys making money hand over fist from us really DO NOT care about us fans.
Soldie.
Glad you have taken the time to reply in such puerile fashion.
Let me spell it out for you.
At 11.45 qoute "My understanding is that Sky have all the OF games and ESPN will be showing away OF games"
Untrue. As I thought it would help our fellow posters, I copied from the SPL website details of all the planned televised games and it states that out of Sky's four matches, three involve Celtic & Rangers away from home. It also advertises three ESPN matches that do not involve Celtic or Rangers.
At 12.13 quote "then lists the fixtures with all OF away games being listed on ESPN and the OF game on SKY as i stated at 1145hrs......so it seems pretty clear to me that Dundee Perth is not clear with what i have said. He is concuring with what i believe to be the case..."
Again untrue. I have not stated anywhere all OF games being listed on ESPN.
You also went to say that this "confusion" will lead people to live outwith their means as where else does such an agreement exist with same product on different platforms?
Erm, last season the English Premier League with Sky & Setanta..??
ConfusedButOnlyTryingToHelpPeopleOutCSC
Mountain_bhoy,
How are you? send me your home email address, as your work one is no longer.
Just had a thought.
I wonder how the contract looks between ESPN, SKY & SPL
Have they not just spilt the SPL games into two different contracts?
Could this mean in future that someone could just come in and buy the rights to the old firm games and then maybe offer different money for the rest of the games?
mountainbhoy, no idea, have only been in BBs a couple of times, and trust me, it's more for the company than the surroundings.
Fair play to you antonrogan - would you happily part with £40 every time there was a game like this?
If we make it through this round I wonder if the home game will also be shown live on CH67. If we draw Arsenal or any of the other big teams what do you reckon?
£40 is a great deal of money to me. It is not something I can easily part with on top of all the other bills and the money I will probably have to pay each month to watch Celtic on TV through out the season. I don't have the option of going every other week. I wish I did. I wish I had more money, but I don't.
Things have changed. Technology has changed. Games are available more easily and yes, we have become spoiled. But that isn't going to change. there was a chance here for distant Celts to get to watch a game. Celtic have put the arm in to extract maximum cash from those supporters and dare I say it from more local supporters who felt £25 (or more if they have families) was too much. I suspect celtic will make less money this way than they would have if they had said £5 for a game.
Paul67,
on your advice I went along to the tucket oaffis and picked up ma tuckets for me and Mini MWD this morn. Good call on last article. Cheers.
First time I had been back up at The Park since match day 38 last season. Thought it would bring back some bad memories of last season. But nyada. Not one bad memory came rushing back. Only the goodins of all the special chamionee league nights filled my senses. every victory against the hun or the mini hun fae the east. Many many memories of old bhoys scoring against big diddy terams from Europe. Even Mike Galloways spanker against the Jam tarts.
Bhoy am I up for this tonight.
Vocal chords have been exercised.
La La La La La La in F major.
Anyway.
Hail hail to all the bhoys fortunate enough to come along and stand with me in support of our team.
Get intae them with style and pace.
MWD is sooooooooo "bloody" excited. BTW it's in the bible it's in the book and if you don't believe me go and take a look.
See some of you bhoys in BB's for a couple of very expensive pints.
Falcao gone,
Let's pick up this guy for peanuts instead then. Guy's that have been following my posts over the past months will notice i have mentioned this guy.
Mr Z and Paul67 mentioned the romanian Becaruj for punt and i would agree, but i reckon this guy should be seriouslt considered as well:
Slovenian striker under 21 striker Etien Velikonja.
awe naw, awenaw man youve lost me there. what have i made my mind up about? hmmm its easy to be intellectual when the only person who understands you is oneself
mountain_bhoy,
completely agree ... dislike BB´s every time I have been in there and thats not usually on match days.
There must be a child friendly pub that would only be too happy of the extra clientèle. You´d think we would have one of our won. If only BQ drank in BB´s he´d see the market opportunities available ;-)

As I said last night the problem is that they probably won't have the available bandwidth to cope with the level of people as a one of. In order to gain this they'd have to pay for a mega-high bandwidth on a permanent basis yet it will only be used for one game as 99% of the people using it are in the UK and won't subscribe simply for an audio feed.
They can't plan to upgrade their servers for just the one game, add to that the processing and cancellation of thousands of subscriptions and it could cause problems and not become profitable.
Malone19
So if everyone did decide to pay £40 and it crached, would we get a refund, because too many subscribed? I doubt it
Andyboy,. I take it the no home games is an SPL rule to protect crowds? Maybe they havent read the report on Dutch football and how an effect of showing all games live lead to an increase of interest in the Dutch game and an increase in both attendances and TV channel subscription.
bigjock67!! hows that top par 3 over the gorge doing? how on earth do i send you my email address? pintage before the game with the usual suspects?

Sorry about that, freudian slip, just registered via the Sky website and it was £9.00 a month as an existing Sky subscriber.
Dont want to think how much I pay now for TV. Sky complete package + ESPN + TV Licence must be about £90 a month!
Still keeps me out of the pub! Actually yesterday that was one of the things that the caller said when I asked about which games were to be on ESPN. Must be a selling strategy of Sky!
Lovely day in Ayrshire, gaun' oot oan the bike to pedal away some energy before the game tonight.
Whilst out for petrol and a coffee today read the article in the Express with Tony Mowbray talking about building his team round the "exceptional talent" that is Aiden McGeady. Watch the wee man fly this year with that kind of backing from his manager!
Hail Hail!

Well said, I subscribed to C67 last season, was good to see unedited Friday press conferences and for good commentary for all games. TV pictures with C67 audio works well.
Better than the BBC TV or Radio, better than Booth etc. and miles better than Radio Clyde.
Usually the best place for getting team news pre game also.

Rougue,
The guy i just mentioned would be a steal. I posted afew last night as well that would be worth a look.
Big Mathias Jorgensen of FC Copenhagen for me with either Glenn or Darren would be the rock the TM foundation would be built from for me.
There is also plenty od N'Guemo's out there in the shape of Anthony Annan, Lucas Biglia and Stijn Schars.
Germany should be another market we should look to tap into. I'm suprised that TM never looked St Etienne way when he was raiding the french market.

roberttressell, I wouldn't be parting with £40 just for this game, I'd be buying Channel 67 for the year - as has been said, press conferences, the home games shown in full, stuff that seems pretty good value for £3.30 a month. I haven't needed to thus far because i've been well served by my season ticket, Setanta and Celtic TV. But I might well think about it under a given set of constraints. I'm not exactly made of money myself, but watching Celtic is a priority of how I spend what I have. If I was exiled from travelling distance of CP, then giving the club money to watch my club would be a good option to me, and I wouldn't be bleating about paying the cost of a round in BBs (no kidding, btw, place is mad expensive) to do it for the year.
It's the "I want it now and I want it all and I want it for nothing" mentality that annoys me. If everyone did that, the club wouldn't have a saleable product and there wouldn't be coverage anywhere.
MWD, I won't be in BBs today, have been off work all week and am defying doctors orders to go this evening.
Malone19... I know you are pointing out the facts. But why offer the video feed of the game in the first place? Money, that's why.

Malone19 - I see your point but they will know by now how many people are subscribed. They can then usually have a very good guess at how many they think will subscribe at the death giving them no doubt quite an accurate assesment of bandwidth and processing requirements. Bandwidth can be rented temporarily and outsourced serers used to increase throughput. All of this can be done relatively easily if you are being foresighted enough to sort this out. Also why not go P2P for the stream? As Andybhoy says they could get the same problem tonight with people oversubscribing and crashing the servers at £40 a go. Somethings like that cannot be legislated for but the possibility of it happening is not a good enough reason for me to cut off a large chunk of revenue. The pro's outweigh the risks in my opinion.
They will have provisions in place to handle large volumes I am sure. Nowadays many companies, particularly TV companies, stream content up to HD quality (in Americe for free!) and have no problems with bandwidth as possibilities are planned and accomodated for. No reason we cannot do the same for a football match.
Celtic are missing a trick tonight...these sorts of games are soem of the very few where we do have control of the rights. We are not taking full advantage tonight, not by a long shot.

Hope you dont have flu like symptoms and have to give your ticket away via Pizzabox under the door.;-)

Delighted to see the Board have afforded Billy McNeill a status within our club. While a position of President would have been my preference maybe the fact that Big Billy can rabble on and on might have swayed the Directors who prefer shorter Board Meetings!
While Directors do set themselves up to be shot down and in some cases ridiculed by others I believe that we at Celtic now have a Board that has SUPPORTERS making decisions on our behalf and endeavouring to do all they can to make our club better. Be honest would any of you rather have that great businessman Mr Murray ( who looked at other micky mouse clubs like Ayr Utd! )?
Okay so we don't have the big bucks that they do in England, and okay Abrahmovic is more of a Sugar Daddy than Dermot, but Dermot has and will always be a supporter while Abrahmovic will one day sell out for cash - and not as Fergus did when restructuring but for the benefit of Abrahmovic!
Hopefully this season we can start supporting our club better and not just the team - with us all pulling in the one direction we will achieve our common goal of a successful Celtic!

RL,
Network interface cards are usually programmed to listen for three types of messages. They are messages sent to their specific address, messages broadcast to all NICs, and messages that qualify as a multicast for the specific card. There are three types of addressing:
1. Unicast - A transmission to a single interface card.
2. Multicast - A transmission to a group of interface cards on the network.
3. Broadcast - A transmission to all interface cards on the network. RFC 919 and 922 describe IP broadcast datagrams.
I hope that Celtic provide one signal that is "broadcast" across the net as this is the most effective way to do so. If you are aware that they are multicasting I´d love to have that confirmed?
If they are multicasting then the question is Why ?
If they are broadcasting then any bandwidth issues is not really their problem ... unless they cant even mange to get the one broadcast out onto the net and that would be hard but knowing our lot ......

Totally geed up for this game. Yesterday I felt like there was no way I could make it, but stuffed full of Beechams and Sudafed and ibuprofen and am, somewhat dizzily, back up for it again.
Great to see the Virgin Media deal to include ESPN. I'll be seeing a bit more of the Hoops this season than I had thought.

Awe_Naw - I don't know the tech behind the CH67 operation at all. I would like to know if anyone has any details.
I was just saying to Malone19 that I don't think the bandwidth thing is a valid excu..sorry reason, for them not doing this. There are plenty of ways to address the problem he gave if they were serious about maximising their income from this source. For me bandwidth or additional admin costs do not cut it as a reason. I am happy to be corrected though if anyone is in posession of the details as this is just my opinion based on no facts whatsoever. :)

Irvine'sCelt :- You make some good points about the board and the contrast to Sir David however I'm not sure if I agree with you re Mr Desmond. Do you believe that when he does sell up (or his family) he will do so in a way that benefits Celtic rather than himself or his family. He may well be a supporter but folk don't become mega rich by taking business decisions based on sentiment.
I can't see Mr Desmond selling in such a way that it's to the detriment of himself or his heirs.
Whether they are called Abramovich, Al Fayed or Desmond I'm afraid that's one of the problems in being owned by a rich foreigner :-)
sorry guys but don't have time to properly read the posts - is the game being shown anywhere other than Channel67?
4-0 to the good guys!
I thought this was an interesting perspective from a web page that is not interested in supporting any particular team it's only concern is to provide enough info to make placing a bet on either team more informed. Doubt if his comments re. Brown and Robson is accurate.
After few dominating seasons in domain frames, Celtic failed to win the title and changes were unavoidable. Gordon Strachan left the club and new boss is talented Tony Mowbray (ex West Bromwich Albion). Team played four friendly games as the preparation for the new season and the start looks more than encouraging. One draw, against Cardiff 0-0 and three wins 3-0 Brisbane Roar FC, 5-0 Al Ahly and the most impressive win on Wembley Cup against Tottenham 2-0 (with mixed team). Celtic play attacking football and it's the main reason why Mowbray got his chance. Team has a lots of experience playing in European competitions and they're the owner of one very specific record, just one European defeat (Barcelona) from last 35 games at Celtic Park! After the collapse of the TV channel, financial crisis threats to Scottish football and qualification for the Champions League is absolutely vital for the hosts. Two very important players, midfielders Scott Brown and Barry Robson are in doubt. But, it seems more like a mind-game, both passed the last training and they're expected in the team. Defender (and skipper) Stephen McManus will miss the start of the season. All others are available to boss Mowbray. Stadium is sold out and the lads will have a huge support from the crowd.
Dinamo is one of the Russian giants, team with the rich history. In the previous season, they reached the third place (behind Rubin and CSKA) and got the chance to fight for Champions League group stage. This will be the first time that the club has taken part in the competition since its re-branding from the European Cup in 1992.. And the lack of experience playing in Europe will be the additional problem for the visitors. The biggest advantage is they're in full competition shape. Dinamo played the half games in Russian league, while Scottish starts at August 15th. After 15 games played in domain competition, Dinamo hold 5th place with real chance to qualify for Europe, again. In the last round, in city's derby game against Locomotiv Moscow, they played a draw (1-1), with another goal by Alexandr Kerzakhov (seven goals in 11 appearances, so far), who definitely will be the biggest threat for home's net. The captain and very important midfielder, Dmitry Khokhlov is suspended, while the acquisition from Portugal side Braga, Luis Aguiar still isn't fully fit and won't appear. It is expected the talented youngsters Smolov, Kokorin and Svezhov get the chance tonight, but the big question is how they'll react on hot atmosphere on Celtic Park.
Tony Mowbray have been making some statements, pointing Russian collective spirit, definite shape and organization, but the true is, he is looking for a convincing victory and finishing the job in the first game. I don't think Celtic will trash them, but home win is absolutely real."
R&L,
In my humble opinion bandwidth is not a probelm as fas as Celtic is concerned. If they are broadcasting then its an issue for your provider. If the provider say they are delivering Broadband (i.e 10Mbits/s)then that should be enough. You will never actually attain 10Mbits in reality you might only get 5-6 but that should be enough. If its not then you need to take it up with your provider NOT CELTIC as you are paying for a service that they are not delivering.
Hail HAil
Mountain_bhoy,
TCP/IP is generally described as having four abstraction layers (see RFC 1122).
Its akin to 4 layers of the OSI reference model.

Etien Velikonja could be a big player. I've seen him many times in action as I live just 40 km north of Gorica where he plays. He turned the club's season from shite to finishing second all by himself with some terrific performances.
I doubt Celtic didnt make some sort of spy mission for him and I also doubt he would cost much more than half a million euros.
it would be a big big change for him though..

Fair play to you antonrogan - would you happily part with £40 every time there was a game like this?
------
Robert, £40 is a years subscription to C67 it isnt just for this game as you imply above. For what it is worth, I paid my £40 for the year when it was announced the Cardiff game and Brisbane game would be shown. I watched Brisbane then Cardif Game and Tonight will watch the dynamo game I also will see the full press conference from today.
Now thats 3 games in 3 weeks for £40 so far and I still have 11 months subscription left - Not a bad deal and nothing like as bad as you are painting it.
Also, I have a decent broadband connection at 8mb which is enough for me to take a feed out my laptop and site and watch on TV.
£40 a year, not a bad deal at all in my book.

Oneantonrogan - just have to come back at you there.
The crux of my argument is this:
Celtic getting rid of the ability to pay monthly for Ch67 is wrong.
It is wrong for this reason (among others) - a lot of extra £5 notes would have come Celtic's way today. Now they will not.
I don't want Ch67. I want to watch a Celtic game.
My attitude is not one of wanting everything and wanting it now. You don't know me. If you did you would realise that is as far from the truth as you can get.
And you can bet your bottom dollar that should we get a crowd pulling draw in the next round Celtic will sell to the highest bidder for rights to the home game. It annoys me that they will not do the same for this game in order to enable the like of me to watch it.
Unless you are an 'exile' or overseas fan I don't think you can fully comprehend it anyway.
I am not parting with £40 to watch one game and then have a service which I would not get to watch very often for a multitude of reasons. I happen to be on my holidays at the moment which is why I am on here so often compared to normal but I just don't have the time, nor the disregard for my family life to justify yet more money and time on Celtic related products.
I have a Celtic Credit Card, I buy Celtic merchandise from Celtic Outlets, I pay for match tickets up to 4 times a season if I can, I spend money at the stadium when I am there. I make my contribution to Celtic. I don't feel the need, obligation or charitable inclination to give Celtic another £40 today.
I think my argument is a just one. Bottom line is Celtic would have sold alot more £5 pay per view packages for this game tonight than they will £40 for a years subs to Ch67. it is a stupid decision.
Awe_Naw_,
NOT funny!
West Wales Celt,
I've heard that ADSL24 is very relieable. I currently get 6.5 - 6.9MB download speed with BT.
SEXY Babe Ali Douglas is the stunning new face of Sky's SPL coverage - with Handsome stud and ex-Celtic boss Gordon Strachan as her lowly sidekick.
The glamorous anchorgirl, 33, has signed up for the satellite telly giant just weeks after disappearing from our screens in last month's Setanta collapse.
Former Rangers TV babe Ali will team up with outspoken Strachan, 52, in a live football line-up that's also likely to include ex-Ibrox and Scotland winger Neil McCann.
Last night, a telly insider said: "It's a coup to get Gordon back on the box - everyone enjoyed his performances as a pundit on Match of the Day 2.
The fact that Sky's first game is his old club Celtic at Aberdeen - where he won the European Cup Winners' Cup as a player - also gives it added spice.
"And Neil's intelligence and knowledge means he can be a big asset and will compensate up for his ugly coupon"
Sky will show 30 SPL games next season, on top of Scotland home matches and Scottish Cup ties.
It had the rights with ESPN on a five-year deal in its back pocket after Setanta folded.
ESPN's coverage will reluctantly be fronted by ex-BBC veteran Ray Stubbs when the new season kicks-off on August 15 and he has already started looking for a new job.
Exiled Scot Derek Rae returns as its commentator, alongside ex-Scotland midfielder Craig "honest to god" Burley.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get premium style pictures available in the UK even for a little extra. The regular version of Ch67 is OK but quality on full screen is a little blurry.

Stevie - I don't disagree with your point. mine is, however, outlined above. I want to watch THIS match. I don't want CH67. I cannot go tonight. I would like to give Celtic £5 to watch it but will now either listen on radio or find an illegal streaming (can I say that without being ousted from CQN forever? I'll take the chance)
I should be excited about the game. I suppose I am somewhere but I feel Celtic have got this wrong.
StevieNoBread
Any idea where I can readthat report re Dutch football broadcasting?
RogueLeader
I watch a lot of content on divx which is pretty much dvd quality, instantly streaming but the difference is 10,000+ people are unlikely to be watching it at exactly the same time.
Live TV has its own problems. Most streaming TV isn't live so people are viewing it at different times.
I don't know the costs, they may well be a lot lower than I'd imagine, but surely setting up the infrastructure that a BBCi player or 4 on Demand (which is the level of traffic the game would receive) wouldn't be cheap?
roberttressell, my initial point was to you, but I went on to make a wider point about the whole "why pay when you can watch it free on the internet" thing - reading back, I can see how it looked like a dig at you in particular, and I apologise for that.
(btw, pay your £40 then pass on your login details for any other game to someone who is willing to pay, half to yourself and half to the Kano fund! everyone's a winner! you weren't going to give Celtic the £40 for the year, but if you could watch the game, give some money on to charity, Celtic still get the £40 they wouldn't have got from you, you end up less out of pocket, the charity gets some money, someone else gets to watch Mogga's Friday press conferences for the rest of the season...)

Malone19 - You are correct, it likely would not be cheap however they have the infrastructure in place as they do stream live games and have been doing so for quite a while, so whilst it wouldn't be "cheap" (which is a relative term) I don't think the cost would be prohibitive. It would definetly need beefed up for a match such as this, and without knowing their exact tech all of this is guess work, but I do find it hard to believe that a way could not have been found to make this game PPV. I mean it is not like they haven't known it was coming up and didn't know what the media rights situation surrounding it would be?
As RobertRessell says and I totally agree with a hell of a lot more people would have gladly paid £5 than there will be people who will pay £40 tonight.
As I said I don't know the tech in place so I am perhaps being a little harsh but I would find it hard to believe that a way to make this PPV whilst turning a nice profit could not be found.
Aw Naw - how? You've paid your subscription for your login - it's not the same as not paying at all, surely

Well done, I'm impressed. We were asked that at pub quiz last night and racked our brains but didn't get close to it.
Didn't help that the quizmaster said it was Tyne-Weir derby rather than Tyne-Tees. Don't think that would have helped us either.

We could have a communal CQN login. Save us all a fortune and concentrate the boards minds on beating Rangers.

Since they don't seem to be talking about re-launching Celtic TV could we not screen the reserve and U19 games on C67? There were times last season when I enjoyed watching the younger teams on C67 more than I did watching the first team.
Suppose they would then need their own equipment/staff for actually filming the matches.
malone19
not sure what big event PPVs you can get for a tenner. Most of the boxing on Sky Box Office is £15.
Still think £40 a year for Ch67 is good value and better than paying £40 plus a month to Sky/ESPN. Sure you don't get live matches but in the long term if people don't subscribe to Sky/ESPN they won't want to renew the deal and Celtic might get the rights themselves.

At one point Mowbray gushed: "I think great players - and I don't think 'great' is too strong a word for Aiden - should play with freedom.
"He is an exceptional talent and I have never seen quicker feet on any football player than Aiden possesses.
"There is no good me caging him up. I need to let him go out and express himself. It's then up to me to structure my team around him.
"When you have a player of such quality, imagination and ability you have to harness your team around it.

Ah, OK, thanks Aw Naw. Thought it was a nice wee fundraiser to get the Kano fund an extra £20 or so. I repeat, I was NOT advocating a mass sharing of anything, just a way to ensure a paid-for service was getting used by a person, say me, willing to pay for it who didn't need to take it up for tonight. roberttressell could have watched tonight's game, then I could have watched all the other stuff he has no interest in (live re-runs of home games, press conferences) rather than it just lingering about in cyberspace doing nothing. He'd get some of his money back, I'd get to watch stuff I wouldn't otherwise, the Kano Fund would get an extra bob or two, and Celtic would still have sold a subscription they wouldn't otherwise have sold.

MountainBhoy :- I agree with you about Rangers majority holder, I have stated often that he is bad for the club. I take your point about Celtic being a very small part of Mr Desmond's overall portfolio however I do think that when the time comes to sell it will be for his benefit and not for that of the club. people don't become mega rich by being nice altruistic guys.
BoltonBhoy :- To be honest I'm not worried who owns Rangers if they have the best interests of the club at heart. That would be one that doesn't hive of lucrative parts of the club to line his own pockets to the detriment of the club.
The moment of truth
Seeing Celtic at Wembley was great
Seeing them win a game was a bonus
But to win a tournament there that included Barcelona was a great Celtic moment. We may not have played Barca but we played the same two teams they did.
We played a relaxed style of football that seemed to suit our players.
Tonight we will find out if we are a good team or not. And if last season was just a case of a bunch of players that had had enough of their manager.
It's also a very big night for McGeady. He has no excuses left it's time for him to deliver.
Edward Ursus earlier.
Hello Edward, I noticed your exchange with Irvine regarding his comments on the Board and Mr Desmond. I realise the tone was lighthearted btw.
On the subject of Mr Desmond vis a vis Sir David, I think it's correct that Dermot has gone on the record to state that his involvement in Celtic is very much an "emotional" investment and that he has no intention of divesting himself of this involvement anytime soon.
I think it is also correct that he has similarly advised his family that this particular investment should be kept.
(At this point there is an obvious easy avenue to cynicism, if not scepticism...especially, but not exclusively, from those who dont support the Club)
Anyway -
The key difference here I believe between the two figures is that financially Mr Desmond is on a much stronger footing vis a vis his interest in his "team" than Sir David. In the wider world context Mr Desmond's financial position is also stronger and I would guess his medium term fiscal prospects better too!
So in short ( if only eh?)
"ma big brar is bigger and bettur than yours!"
And we want our title back!!!!

EU - in other words anyone but your current owner? I'm no big fan of DD but I do agree with others who have pointed out that he has stated on more than one occasion that his investment in Celtic is an emotional one rather than a business one. I just wish he'd let his emotions run away with him once in a while...
Mort, yer a legend, cheers for that.
Will be a great night tonight, Daddy and his Hoopettes will be huddled around the PC for this one, i'll be there with you in spirit guys, lets make Tonys first night one to remember!!!
DD - "As he said himself, if we had to buy Aiden McGeady, we couldn't afford him."
Aiden 2007 vintage he is spot on. We couldn't afford him.
Aiden 2008 vintage. We could indeed afford him.
For the record I think we will see the best we have ever seen of Aiden this year as if Massimo's up turn in form is mirrored in Aiden....
Although I also agree with Kevtic....Aiden now has to deliver on a weekly basis and reward the faith and status that Anton Mor has given him
I have been a subscriber of Ch67 since it came into being.
I dont live in scotland, I cannot get to the games.
I have to say I think for £4.99 a month I don't feel ripped off by Celtic.
They are not allowed to show live SPL games in the UK. It's not Celtic's fault.
I get to see every game they can show live, or delayed transmission of the games they can't.
I have access to any features being shown on Ch67 and full unrevised and unedited - The weekly press conference given by the Manager. To be honest it was worth £4.99 last season alone for the press conferences - some of reporting of comments and things supposedly said by GS was quite simply shocking!!
And, people on here were buying into it.
SPL games I have only audio, granted. But you know what? I would rather listen to someone Celtic minded doing the commentary than the ratbags I have to listen to on Radio Scotland or Clyde.
I have subscribed to whatever package Celtic could offer me since 2001, every month.
Actually when I am due to pay again at the end of this month I will take up the £40.00 for year subscription offer, because Celtic are offering me a deal which will save me money, not rip me off.
as I will only be paying £3.30 monthly from then on.
I am not a season book holder, although on my return to Scotland as soon as I find suitable employment I will take steps to change that.
I am a Celtic supporter and so I buy from the club superstore all official merchandise, and I subscribe happily to the Club media channel.
Have you ever watched a Celtic game on an illegal stream it is usually God awful quality and you have to put up with a seriously base level of comments from the pond life that frequent the site.
And, if anyone wants to argue that there are no Celtic supporting bigots I suggest you pay a visit to justin tv and you will lose that arguement.
Given a choice of listening to anti celtic ratbag commentators on radio or being on the same web page as the crud that lives there.
£4.99 to Celtic will do for me.
Just a personal opinion of course.
Standing Up for Channel 67
The game is live video on Ch 67 tonight, I've just signed up, there is just no way a bhoy in Essex can get up for the game and be at work tomorrow
Having been at Wembley I'm excited about tonights game, I think we are at the begining of something very special under our new management team, Anton Mor is a footballers footballer, but Peter the Great is the steel within the team, I wouldnt want to be a player who'd given less than 100% walking in to face PG, he epitomises the celtic fan who is living the dream, he is truly one of us
So far we have only a few pre-season games to judge by, but it seems almost miraculous the turnaround in many of the squad, its almost like a huge weight has been lifted and now they get to show us what they can do
I think the Muscovites may be in for a torrid evening
hail Hail and good luck to the Bhoys

Hello All, thought it was about time I registered & posted. I've been reading without registering for a long time - like many others.
Noticed this recent article (today) that says that ESPN & Virgin have struck a deal and that the ESPN channels will be free to XL subscribers, with a cost to others.

I love Lubo
Shame about Livington but it always annoyed me that Celtic supporters lined up to but serious money into that little project when they would have been better off buying a smaller stake in Celtic but atleast their investment would still have had some value.
bankiebhoy1 :- I would agree with everything you say about our respective majority shareholders and do think that you have the better deal.
PS. It's not yours it ours :-)
RogueLeader on July 29, 2009 2:33 PM
Even at Aidens lowest ebb last season we would still have expected 5m minimum - so we couldn't afford him then.
The lad is our best outfield player IMO and I find it hard to see who could touch him for that honour.
I think we're going to see something truly special from the lad for both Celtic and Ireland.

I'd be one of the posters you referred to. I 'd be the first to admit that I don't rate Aiden as highly as you do. Anton Mor obviously does - or at the least he's going the right way about building his confidence.
So far Aiden has made a good start under Anton Mor. Nothing more than that although the signs are promising. I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong - in fact I hope I am - but its still early days.
I posted earlier in the week that the one thing I detected about the players thus far is that they seemed happy. This applies to Aiden probably more than the others. He also seems more relaxed. Good man management by Anton Mor. Hopefully that will be what is needed to reveal the Aiden Mc Geady you believe is there. And the one I remain to be convinced is there.

Some interesting snippets from Tony Mowbray's press conference from yesterday:
He said he see's no reason why he would need to change Stephen McManus as club captain but said that if he is out of the team injured or due to form than another captain will be on team but stressed that it's not that big an issue.
He also said that he isn't responsible for buying players and that he simply makes recommendations to someone else who sorts out the transfers. He also said that Josh Thompson from Stockport won't be coming on a trial as he knows enough about him but the deal isn't concluded yet.

Lurgan53 on July 29, 2009 2:43 PM
Whether you or I rate him is immaterial to the point I was making. The point being regardless of what you and I think, if we had to buy Aiden McGeady from another club in todays market we simply couldn't afford him. IMO only one other player we own at the moment falls into the same bracket, Artur Boruc. Thats says somthing about both of them i.e. we need both of them.
Who's your pick for the last four of the championship then?

Can we safely assume that tonights starting line up will be the team that started on Friday ?

Tyrone
Dublin
Cork - Apologies
Mayo
I think the Cork - Donegal is the most difficult to call. Donegal - it depends which one turns up of course - are very capable of beating them but I'd thke The Rebel to make it just!! As I said to you last week - that No14 - Gallagher?? - what a player. He could do some real damage.
For the record I would bet on a Tyrone / Dublin final with The Dubs shading it. Thats nothing to do with me being a bitter Armagh man.!!

If Aiden does not play well tonight, let`s not start a witch hunt. Judge him after a few games under TM. Ronaldo went on many runs with little or no end product and he went for £80,000,000! He also, of course, went on many with the ultimate end product. Aiden IS our most talented player and if TM can get the best out of him then we are all winners. Let`s give him as much of a new chance as his manager is giving him and we will see much more in the vein of that wonderful piece of skill in which set up a goal (for Skippy?) against Aberdeen.Sublime.
Awe Naw,
TM has 2 decisions to make.
1/ Central Defence pairing.
2/ Left back.
I thought that Darren O'Dea was brilliant on Sunday and has a right good chance - but I expect that GC and GL will start.
I am not a Naylor fan but what a risk playing DF.
So I suspect that Friday's team will start.
Seville67
Hi Guys,
New poster, been lurking for years so I thought I would through my hat into the ring.
Starting to get excited about the way the team has been playing, early doors but very encouraging.
Watched the highlights last night of the Dinamo/Locomotive game at the weekend, the centre backs
looked at bit static and there is joy to be had if we can get the strikers running the channels, must say but
the guy who scored took his chance really well.
Feeling confident of a good win tonight, wish I was there but will be watching on Channel 67
With some mates and a few beers
Cheers

Not at all, thats what my head says as well, my heart says all of the same bar swap Donegal for Cork.
Ideally I want a Mayo Donegal final as my other half is a Mayo girl and Mayo people are some of the finest you'll meet IMO.
As you say depends what team turns up. I can't see past Tyrone for the championship but stranger things have happened.
No.14 was Michael Murphy and he had a stormer, as did Gweedore's Kevin Cassidy in the middle. Rory Kavanagh is a must as well.

Celtic Till I Die - I've got the Virgin XL pack, but I'm now going to be worse off than before as that will not include the Sky SPL games. That means no Glasgow derbies and about half the games I got free last year...unless I take out a further subscription for the Sky Sport channels through Virgin. Is that the case?
I didn't get Sky before, as a lot of the EPL games not involving the top four teams were guff. My only regret was missing the La Liga games.
I'll wait and see what Virgin offer, but ESPN is NOT a direct replacement for Setanta.

Seville67,
The DDD Darren O´Dea Dilemma.
If we play Caldwell then he´s cup tied. So if he doesn´t sign up then he´ll be cheaper for any prospective buyer.
I wouldn´t risk Danny Fox in this tie neither. Lee Naylor for me.
I think he has to decide who partners Skippy that´s the biggest one for me.
I hope to see Skippy, Artur, Aiden and Andreas all starting tonight so that they are cup tied.

I have subscribed to c67 from way back when it was rubbish :)
I doubt that they would allow multiple logins. I am sure the terms and conditions stated that if one account has multiple logins at the same time then that account would be suspended.
TTTT - your right I think. They will be showing 30 games a piece and I would reckon that Sky will probably have the 4 old firm games (anyone confirm?). That said, it looked like we weren't going to get anything for nothing. I thought it looked like a £10 a month at the least. Also, think the ESPN product will be a lot better than Setanta - they are seasoned broadcasters (not many bigger) in sport. HD channel is also a bonus. I reckon ESPN will also win a fair share of other sports, just depends on whether you're interested.
I noticed that during August, the channels will be free to all virgin customers.

WGS, WGS, WGS. I have lurked about this site for a good while now and the quality of the chat/comments/banter on the site is 2nd to none for a football forum.
However, I cant tell you how obvious it is ( and slightly annoying )that you drop all these random, pretty much unknown, players into the mix for us to buy, and give the view that you have researched them, know them well, have personal experience of watching them when really, you pick them up from football manager....
I cant see any way how you can be so certain these unknowns would be great for celtic. I do not believe for 1 minute you sit and watch football from all corners of the world and then state with such certainty they would be great signings. I think 95% of the players you list/submit videos of from youtube come from football manager.
I know I am new to the site and you have been posting for year(s) but i really wanted to make my view clear there.
Also the story a while ago about the after dinner speaker and ' a surprise ' managerial appointment ( not TM ) was really embarrasing. Did you ever comment on that after TM was announced???
Awe Naw,
interesting thought on Gary C. I have just assumed that he would sign so cup tied would not be an issue. Maybe I've missed how disgruntled he is ?
As for up front Marco is the man - I think that Scot McD will score 30 this year playing off him.

Yes we went. We had a briliant holiday. We didn't think anything would beat West Cork for scenery, but I take my hat off to Donegal!
We stayed in a house 6 miles from Moville, 500yds from beautiful Kinnoge Bay. A beautiful beach all to ourselves.
We went up to Malin Head and Five Finger Strand. Simply stunning! We went through the Mamore Gap, where I almost burned out my clutch getting up there! On the other side, stunning views of Lough Swilly.
We went over on the ferry from Greencastle to the occupied County Antrim, where we went to the Causeway and Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge.
We spent a day in Derry, which was great.
We travelled west as far as Glenveagh National Park where we took a tour around the castle.
I think we are going back next year. This time we are going to stay in the west of the County.
We didn't get a chance to go on the other ferry from Buncrana to Rathmullan and go to Port Salon, which was highly recommended. We'll get there hopefully next year.

I stayed there twice when Legia played against Austria Vienna. Truth, lovely city. You don’t surprise me with the esteem you have to Starobrno. You must go to the restaurant in the centre of the old town. They prepare non pasteurized beer there. They have big tuns inside and serve fresh beer. I loved it. Don’t remember the name of the restaurant but it’s always full of people.
Anyway
Today Celtic is Starobrno, Dynamo Moscow is Corsican chestnut beer.
pokertim,
I need to come back to you.
WGS is a big bhoy and can type up for himself - but I personally love his ambition. The guy leads the line with regards to throwing names into the mix.
This site contains many characters some folks who support the board, some who challenge the board , some who are funny ( come back Noel90) ,some who care for fellow Tims, some who post like best selling authors(James Forrest), some who are plain daft , some who type in riddles (Kojo), some who manage the summer book list(GL2)we even have SuperTed who is made welcome.
WGS is number uno with regards to pushing for new signings. I don't think he positions himself as an oracle on all players but his suggestions never fail to generate debate.

Trust me... not a SKY defender here but just did a quick comparison
Sky - 6 basic packs, sports collection and espn, 10meg broadband, line rental, freetime phone, 1 multiroom (non-hd boxes) £73pm
Virgin - XL TV (ie inc ESPN) L broadband (10 meg) and l phone, sports collection and 1 multiroom and line rental £75pm
Was hoping I had a bargaining tool but apparently not
Seville67 ,
I have no problems with starting with Friday´s line up but I do believe that Tony has a call to make regarding his partner as Killen and Samaras has given him food for thought.
They are a very dangerous and capable side that are very organised and well drilled. They have 11 effective players who keep their shape. When they don't have possession, they drop deep and wait to counter-attack. They have good pace in wide areas with fast, direct wingers. _ Lee Naylor, Aiden Mc Geady and Andreas Hinkel, Shaun Maloney please note

Great to hear that! Glenveigh is almost Gweedore, was in the castle a couple of years back, the lake in the grounds is stunning.

Caldwell being cup-tied is only an issue if the teams wanting to sign him are playing in europe.
can't see ManU, Chelsea, etc wanting Caldwell - Everton ? Villa ? Fulham ?...
i'd rather see us play our strongest team, irrespective of any concerns about whether they'd be cup-tied.
maybe we shouldn't play McGeady in case Real Madrid come in with a stupid bid for him if Ronaldo gets injured before the transfer window closes.

who can forget Killens last showing in the CL.
Samaras was subbed after 60 minutes for Sheridan the last time round.
Gary Caldwell scored the winning goal.
I´d like better options to be honest and its the same players that let the club down in May
WGS won 3 titles and twice guided as to second phase football. I reckon he would have got 4 in row if the club were capable of buying a left back sometime these last four years. The football wasn´t scintillating through choice. I hope and pray that Tony Mowbray can bridge that gap but I think one of his quotes today is the most telling
"If we didn't win, I'm sure there would be a modicum of understanding that the team are giving everything they have got at the moment,"
I hope that proves true but fear that it wont
Hail Hail
That´s my biggest worry.
Paul - Long time lurker etc.... Excellent site and really enjoy my daily browse, although generally can't bear it the day after a poor result. Lets hope that's not the case tomorrow. Pre-season games have been unusually positive, so lets all hope they are a precursor and not a deceiver. I suspect our Ruski friends will present a far sterner test than thus far encountered. Pace and precision as well as good levels of concentration will be required to see them off.
Anyway, as a complete aside, I note that due to Livingston's iminent demise, that the SFL do not have a tenth team able to fit into division 3 and may run the league with 9. Perhaps an opportunity for the mooted Celtic second XI to make up the numbers? Just a thought...
Anyhow, lets give it the full beans tonight and hope for the best!

Why are you such a tart towards English clubs? There are a lot of European clubs that would be interested in Gary Caldwell especially for free.

I'm a tart towards anyone with money. :-)
Caldwell is more likely to be in the sights of english clubs than european ones though, simply because more english managers and scouts watch games here than european ones, and it's more likely to be teams like Sunderland, Wolves, or that ilk.
if he has a year left, then he won't go for free until next summer, cup-tied or otherwise.
as for Mcgeady.......contracts mean nothing. just ask Real Madrid or Man City. if the price is right a contract isn't worth the paper it's written on.
for the record, i don't want any of our best players to go.
Randalstown hoops reporting 6'6' keeper Dominic Cervi has signed and at Lennoxtown. Do we now have too many goalkeepers; is Artur for the off?...could be.

Re Gary Caldwell, I've always liked him and think he's a decent defender. We should just send potential suitors a copy of the Benfica away game and the Shakhtar home game and we should be able to hang on to him. :)
Cheers to the weather-men there, by the time I've swam home I should make it for Radio Scotland coverage.
Ah, the good old days of Radio, when the commentator can go from telling you that a high ball is safely in the hands of your keeper to the nano-second later informing you of a goal for the opposition; bliss.
Mon the hoops
The future's bright, it's green n white.
Off to the pub for a pre-match pint or two.
The new season starts at last!
'Mon The Hoops!

I am curious
What kind of connection is required to hook a laptop up the TV?
22 degrees and sunny.
Time to head into town for a few quiet drinks in one of the many cosmopolitan outdoor bar seatng areas.
Come on Celtic.
RRC,
if you have a newer TV model then you can use your monitor cable for any standard PC. Most Tv have them equipped already.
Or you can use the Video plugs -> if your TV has a video plug. These are normally Yellow and red cables along with the Audio I.e those that you would normally connect a video camera with.
If you dont have them on your TV you can buy an AV-SCART jack that takes the feed from the video cables and audio cable and you can use it like a normal AV cable.
AV = SCART
Hail Hail
RRC
I have a HDMI cable that connects from my TV to my computer. You can also connect using S-Video but quality isn't as good.

I'll get shot down here no doubt but i wouldnt mind a shot at the europa league. The champs league has seen us play man u, barca, milan, shaktar, benfica on numerous occassions and if we made the group stages again it would be a strong possibility we'd face 1 of these clubs. I know some of the occassions were truly unforgettable but so were some of the trips in 2003/2003.
Of course i hope we can make it through this tie and the following round but Europa wouldnt be a disaster in my eyes, after all, the money made in champs league previously has hardly been reinvetsed in the playing staff and from a selfish point view, travelling away in europe is not the same buzz as we seem to keep going to the same places.
guys, prob been asked 100 times, but is the game def not on tv tonight???
Cheers
Il introduce myself another time.

Cheers for the info.
I have a monitor cable, but and older TV with no suitable port.
I think I might already have an AV- SCART lead somewhere in the flat.
Thanks, I will check that out

A HDMI is best but if you cant get one of those try a gold s-video cable.
I was looking at a page I use for CL (country / team) etc and it is saying that the 5 seeded teams for the 4th QR are Arsenal, Lyon, S Lisbon, S Donesk & Panathinikos. Stuttgart, Fiorentina, A Madrid, Celtic & Anderlecht are listed as non seeds. I realise that teams can get knocked out (prague are beating panathinikos), changing things, but I thought that Arsenal, Lyon, Stuttgart, A Madrid & Fiorentina were the 5 seeds.
Has anyone seen it confirmed by UEFA or Celtic that these are the seeded teams we may face, or has it all been from BBC, Record etc

I love walking back into Celtic Park for the first competitive game of a new season. Even more so when it's a CL qualifier. Can't wait for the match to come.
Off to the Bells for a couple to settle the nerves and then onto The Crown.
3-0 to The Hoops.
Dubaibhoy, you going to Dubliners tonight?
Celtic Till I Die
Stuttgart, Fiorentina and A.Madrid do not have to play in the round we are in just now, so, with Arsenal and Lyon, they are automatically in the draw for the next round.
When the 5 teams go through from this round, the 5 teams with the highest co-fficients will be seeded.
Arsenal and Lyon are 1 and 2 because none of the other teams that can qualify have better co-efficients. But there are 3 other teams that have better ones than Stuttgart, Fiorentina and Madrid, who are playing in this round.
"progress against Dynamo must be achieved if Celtic are to be sure of competing in the group stages of either tournament"
Paul,
I was under the impression we would drop into the Europa League if we lose to Dynamo. Can anyone confirm?
Angus
mickmct
its hissing down here in blandford forum too
do i know you !
Failure at this stage results in europa qualifying round.
Angus Young
If we lose this tie, we have another qualifying tie to gain entry to the Europa League. If we win this and lose the next CL qualifier we automatically go to Europa group stages.

Guys
Am on for a short time
Am just outside Magaluf, will there be anywhere showing the game?
Is there any way i can see it?
Thanks in advance

I see that Cork City are due to go out of business because of Debts of €440k. Wold this not be a good club for Celtic to invest in and have as a feeder club. The League of Ireland is a fairly good standard as can be seen from their performances in Europe. We might just get the next Kevin Doyle, Paddy McCourt or Niall McGinn!!!
Ulysses
Try one of these...
SPAIN - THE WILD ROVER, MAGALLUF
SPAIN - SHIRLEY ANNES, MAGALLUF
SPAIN - ENNIS BAR, MAGALLUF
Fresh from Celticbars.com

ulysses mcghee,
Get yourself over to Santa Ponsa and hope one of the Irish/Celtic bars have CH67, I would say that your best bet.
After finally beating Seth with Ryu on the hardest difficulty in Street Fighter IV I've came to the conclusion that tonight's game will be a piece of pi**!
my prediction.
0-0 with skippy to score the only goal.
Gerry K - Yeh, that's what the site says. It is just being widely reported (BBC, Sky, Keep the Faith, all newspapers I've read), that if we beat moscow, then we would play either Arsenal, Lyon, Stuttgart, A madrid or Fiorentina. That doesn't look likely - i'd say if we beat moscow we will play Arsenal, Lyon, S lisbon, S donesk (not again) or Suttgart (think panathinikos will drop out).
Could try
Ennis Bar - Palma Nova
Scots Corner - Palma Nova

Tony Mowbray...
"Football is expensive to watch and I see a lot of average stuff in the game - long-ball football for the big centre-forward to head it down - but I want players to show their talent.
"I believe when you are a 10-year-old schoolboy who goes on to be a professional footballer, you'd be the best player in your school, district or town. But somewhere along the line someone bashes it out of you and tells you, 'You're a centre-half - just head it, kick it, get rid of it'.
"I want to give it back to them. Make them express their love of the game. That's what I try to do with my teams"
He said when he came he'd strive to give us a team to be proud of,ah wis proud on Sunday its early days but we're playin like a Celtic team should.

What will skippy's goal be disallowed for?

0-0 with skippy to score the winner.
From today's Evening Times
Cervi’s a happy Hoop
CELTIC have finally concluded a deal to sign 23-year-old American goalkeeper Dominic Cervi.
The Oklahoma-born stopper had to apply for and receive an Italian passport before he could seal his move to Glasgow. Having done that, he has been at Lennoxtown training with the rest of the Celtic keepers.
The massive goalie, Cervi is 6ft 6ins and 205lbs, impressed on a two-week loan spell in January and is delighted to have finally signed on the dotted line.
"It is just about getting games and growing in confidence now," he said. "It's been a pain just waiting.
"It is such a relief to get things over and done with."

like many people on this site, I am really looking forward to the game tonight. Queued up earlier at Celtic Park to buy x2 tickets, at that time, 11.10am, they only had south west lower tickets left, the wee bit in the rangers end near the away fans, so hopefully the game will be a near sell out. Like you Paul I am hoping for a solid victory tonight. The pre season games have stirred many fans, myself included, out of depression, after our dismal efforts last season. As ever I have a new seasons football to look forward to. Come on Tony Mowbray and the Bhoys, lets get back to winning ways tonight.
Hail Hail!
funnyhowyoumissitevenwhenwearekeechcsc.
Less than two hours until kick off and the nerves are kicking in.
What will the team be? Will we see Fox? O'Dea? Donati? And who will make themselves the hero tonight? Will our dynamic foorball overcome Dynamo? Will the Tony Mowbray era start with a triumph?
All of these, and probably many more, questions will be answered in the East End of Glasgow tonight.
Bing it on.
Anyone got a spare ticket for tonight?
From G72 area

Merryleebhoy
What is Merrylee like nowadays...when i stayed in Glasgow we knew it as Little Italy, because there were so many Italians living there
Kenny Dalglish lived there when he was breaking into the first team. I also remember Fr Breen from St Gabriels was a real character
chris7,
Instalment dates are 28th Aug, 25th Sept & 30th Oct.
cheers dick byrne .. great help mate
What time will the Ch67 feed go live?
u. mcghee, in Santa Ponsa on holiday just now, Flamingo´s Bar which is straight opposite Durty Nelly´s and The Shamrock is showing the game through an internet feed. About 10 mins away from Magaluf.
Hail Hail!

Relax.
These young Russian boys will crumble in the atmosphere.
We'll be 3 up at half time then add another 2 in the second half and Skippy will miss a pen at 4-0 but no-one will care too much.
Just thought I'd point this out with an hour to go rather than come back on here at FT and say I told you so...
C'mon the Hoops.

If anyone has a spare ticket, I can meet them at the ground any time between now and KO
Barcabhoy
Merrylee is fine these days. A wee step down in class from what I was used to in Cathcart but ho hum it will do me fine. As far as the Italians go, I guess they moved on and upwards as I am not aware of too many residing in Merrylee. St Gabriels is still here, in fact it is in my back garden and I am frequently serenaded by lovely hymns as I try to relax whilst playing poker on line in my back garden.
I need to go now, off to the game with my dad, whom by the way, i got a concession ticket for, only £16. Bargaintastic!
