Fortuné chose Celtic over bloated English wastelands
Celtic have completed this signing of French national Marc-Antoine Fortuné (28) from Nancy on a 3 year contract
Marc-Antoine scored on his debut for the midlands club, a deflected shot against Middlesbrough, and followed this by a brace in a 2-3 defeat to Newcastle, but West Brom were already on the slide, picking up only two points in a run of 12 games.
Fortuné convinced numerous English Premier League managers to pursue his signature following an impressive loan period under Tony Mowbray at West Brom last season.
Claims that players signatures are secured under competition from other clubs can be difficult to substantiate, but Hull City, Fulham and Portsmouth have all made it clear they were keen to take the player to England.
We don't often get good comparative news with our bloated southern neighbour, so it is enormously pleasing that Marc-Antoine has chosen Celtic instead of buying into the incessant self-promotion that goes on in English football.
In doing so, he has placed a small marker on the ground.
Welcome to Celtic, Marc-Antoine.

I fear the story you are telling is even worse than you suggest.
JVoH = £3.5mill to zero in three years.
You have missed out an intermeadiate step, he was seemingly the subject of a £5mill+ offer last Aug.
We said no, and now we lose him for nothing.
TG = We seemingly paid £2mill to get him and £1mill to get rid of him. Two goals against the TFOD but we could have had so much more from him.
The 2006 transfer window was very poor for us.
The A list -- three targets -- CF / platmaker / LB had an average age of 22.
We end up with the C list, all players of some ability but an average age of 28.5.
To make matters worse one is injury prone and the other two struggle in WGS's 4-4-2 world.
PH = £1.1mill all because PL would not pay £2mill for KT.
Again the role of PL in all of this needs to be looked at.
Why was PH not bought two years previously.
Half the money would have got him, we stalled at £375K and we would have got twice the useful life out of him at lower wages.
SM = Some mistake surely?
We paid £2.5mill for him, £1.5mill more than we sold him for 18 months previously.
If you want to question my figures ask JR.
Regarding the three others you mention -- MD / JJ / AV.
I fear that the exact buying price / money that has actually been handed over has not been fully explained.
Consequently talk of big losses would appear to be premature.
2 years to get here & on an official signing day. Welcome Marc Fortune.

Can anybody confirm if we have signed both players from Nancy.
The Nancy website says we have but the Celtic website has no mention of N'Guemo

JVoH came to the club because he could get a better wage than he was currently on with PSV.
We paid big money for him and he was on big money with us.
Helicopter Thursday paid a lot of it back but we did not get value during his time with us.
Paying big money and big wages for a 27/28 yr old should be a rare occurrence for us.
In the case of MAF it would be interesting to find out the wage on offer from Hull / Portsmouth and how it compared to our offer.
We paid out £33-34mill in total football wages last year.
I wonder how this compares with the lower half of the EPL.
£20K pw is a big wage in half the EPL teams.
Educated guess based on the annual financial review of the EPL.
Welcome Marc Antoine

i thought that was just as good....
i have watched kc for a long time and the only prob was it has took us so long to look at him that is always our problem think about players then take action a year later when its not a risk but expensive
Sorry. Should be TTTT, Brilliant!
Delighted that he chose Celtic over Premiership Clubs, great coup by Mowbray. Every new signing does not always work but the fact that Mowbray knows him and has worked with him before is a great source of comfort. 3 more needed another Striker, another Paul Lambert and a left back and we are on our way to reclaim the Title.
Lurgan53, you are an emerging talent.
Madmitch
I was not sure on SM figures other than it cost us money to resign him, more than the alleged extra in wages it would of took to get him to sign
Re JJ and AV - i am pretty sure we made a loss on Jarosik and we did on Virgo regardless of the fee as we released him and possibly paid up his contract.
I expect we will make a loss on Massimo, a player who has been marginalised for so long will surely of lost value
anyway back to the sunny vale tomorrow for a wedding in glasgow on fri load up with mince pies and square sausage and real black pudding back on monday with a bad heed

I think we took a hit on many of GS's signings which in my opinion was a factor in the board not supporting him in the January window.

With Nakamura gonzo am I the only one on here who thinks, given the chance, that Willo Flood could be the surprise package on the right next season. Only 21, a Dubliner no less, can both control and run with the ball, good cross and can hit a ball? Is there anybody out there?

According to SSN tonight, Swalex has been watching their latest signing for two years. Do you just want to criticise Celtic or did you not know that ALL teams are constantly looking at players over a long period of time? Opinions of all sorts are fine but I sometimes worry about those who seem to be actively looking for something to criticise in our team.
I may get slagged but who is AV
timsinyyz - congrats on yer first. Was just about to pull you up over the missing "T". At least somebody had 4 in a row! :-)
Welcome to the best club you will ever play for, Marc-Antoine. Mrs TTTT has already proclaimed that you are well fit, so watch out for her trailing you round Sainsbury's.
Well, that's what she did when Bobo came into ours on Crow Road!
What's the word on the Cameroon midfielder? Someone posted that he was a dirty bassa. Great, every club should have one!
Big Barry, when fully fit, is more than capable of handing out skelpings. He's made for trips to Swinecastle, etc., but we need a more devious hard-man in Europe.
Things are picking up....at long last!

i might be wrong but i dont think flood is good enough and will be gone in jan
We are also being linked with a left footed forward who plays for Le Havre - Amadou Alassane. It states he was previously linked with a move to Rangers:

I read that article as well, and my instant reaction was the same as your's....i read it again and actually i think they feel Loovens is worth more than we paid...
"the fee may rise to £3m which is probably not what he is worth but a good return nonetheless."
i read that as they should have got more than £3 million, but their profit was still decent

Despite my asset management reservations it is nice to see the manager be backed with decent funds. I think the fact Fortune appears to have came for all the right reasons will buy him some time to settle.
If his name had of been Mark Tony Fortune and he was signed from the Championship however........................

I thought JJ was ours for a friendly, a share of his signing on fee and a set of tracksuits.
Of all the transfers we have been involved in his generated the least amount of information regarding the actual fee.
AV is an unknown to me, I have no idea how he left.
Free transfer at the end of his contract / Released / Pay off with GTF money.
Like many before him he was a player you just wanted to succeed.

Beat you to it Paul! First time for everything.

JVOH had an injury ravaged final season but his stats speak for themselves, 1 goal every 2.6 games. I defended him roundly last season and gave him the benfit of being injured and being asked to play when clearly not fit although as a pro he should have maybe removed himself from that position. Too many so called supporters are quick to criticise and in big jans case i feel it is unwarranted. I for one wish him well and thank him for his contribution both on the pitch and in the dressing room where we seriously still lack big characters.
It's been doing my nut in for DAYS! Finally had to just admit I didnt know! Shows how much of an impresion he made, or maybe its a suppression of a horrible memory. Feel much better now...

Well spotted although I think it is open to interpretation.
I think it was written through Roger Johnson beer goggles.
I was always intrigued by his replacement.
DJ had him lined up as GL cleared out his locker.
£275K vs £2.5mill -- Did they notice the difference?
Similarly when MZ arrived from WK in 2005, they had a replacement lined up at 20% of the cost and 5 yrs younger.
Should we not have cut out the middleman and went for the lower cost option?

See when you use MI instead of WW, I find myself STU WTF it all means.
Great to see us opening the biscuit tin, hope Fortune turns out to be worth every penny.
Got to back the managers judgement he's had half a season working with the lad and must see a player in him. By all accounts Fortune looks to have been a priority signing for Mogga and PL deserves praise for getting him signed up.
Personally I am not convinced Fortune will live up to his price tag. Watched a few of WBA's games last season and never really noticed MAF. On top of that from his own website clips don't exactly have me salivating. It goes without saying but I hope he proves me and many doubters entirely wrong and goes on to be a fine player for us.
Welcome to Celtic Fortune and welcome Nguemo it seems from Nancy you have signed as well.

I find valuations tricky at the best of times....i don't see much difference between Loovens and Cuellar....That would place him at somewhere north of £7 million....which seems somewhat bizarre, when the price the market placed on him was less than £3 million a year ago, and yet Cuellar enjoyed a similiar jump in value over an equally short period of time...however if i was asked to sign a cheque for £7 million for either Cuellar or Loovens, i would be asking for a sanity assesment
I genuinely think there is no Science whatsoever in player valuations, it all seems a bit of a black art...there are way way too many vested interests in most transfer deals.....
best example Boumsong...i suspect nobody other than Souness would have paid even half of what he did....the other suspicion is that Souness wouldn't have offered anywhere near that if he had been buying from Celtic or any other club
Barcabhoy: what happened to Boumsong?

Celtic pille Nancy
Marc-Antoine Fortune and Landry N'Guemo have officially begun with the Glasgow Celtic on Wednesday.
Marc-Antoine Fortune and Landry N'Guémo are not Nancy. The first loan to West Bromwich Albion since January, has signed a three-year contract with Glasgow Celtic, while the latter has been loaned for a season, always at the Scottish club. Both players will fly Thursday from their new club to make a tour in Australia.

The only one of the four that have moved on that I feel we will really miss, is Naka. I think that he would have enjoyed working with BTM, but he always said he wanted to play in Spain. Best of luck to all 4 who have moved on, and many thanks for your help over the last few years.
So far this window we have a new keeper, a new forward and a midfielder on a year long loan with an option to buy. Sounds good, eh? How many more to come in?
I reckon we shall still see some more.

I'm afraid your translation could be viewed as having regard to the lads sexuality and I know nothing wold have been further from your mind...

Mr Z,
Was he not the one time golden bhoy of Rapied Vienna? I first took notice of him when they played Scotland a few years ago.
Never really kept tabs on him, however, he was highly regarded at that time with Rapid.
From a thread earlier .

Totally ridiculous!!!
Barcabhoy
What do i think led to Cuellar being valued that high...the same as Boumsong in a way
Played in a top league - Spain/France
Is the nationality of one of the top nations - Spain/France
Experience of playing in Europe
Came from a 'big' club
Were sold off the back of excellent form
Tho i don't doubt the Souness factor i doubt MON would do the same!
Loovens ultimately
Came from a Championship team
Never played in a 'big' league
Has not been able to break the Caldwell/McManus partnership. However he is Dutch
Overall i agree tho, it is hard to judge but ultimately a player's value is whatever the market will bear
Just looking through my old E Mails and came across this, The rest of the world seem to know there is a significant difference between us and Rangers fans!! Enjoy and Hail Hail.
A harsh but fair Editorial from the Elmundo Deportivo newspaper.
"Dear Rangers supporters, never come back to Barcelona again. And not because your players themselves aren't a legitimate team. No, it's not because of that - the Nou Camp frequently hosts teams who are lazy, boring, who only defend, who run and kick their opponents, and who shouldn't be in elite competition. On top of this, Rangers merely defend, run at the opposition and play dirty. Their defenders are butchers, their midfielders, heavy-footed; and their strikers just stand there like the furniture. "But even apart from the footballing aspect, the best thing would be for Rangers never to return to Barcelona, because every time they do, they make a mess of the place. 35 years ago, you (the Rangers supporters)destroyed the seats at the Nou Camp. This time we have enjoyed no less than 48 hours of brawls, provocation, rackets, fights and common drunk women throughout the whole city, which you have fouled however you pleased. "Stay at home and vomit in your own living-room, urinate in your sitting-room corners, fight with your neighbours, the Celtic supporters(who deserve a prize just for putting up with you) and foul the streets of Glasgow instead. Don't come back here again, because it is not a laughing matter. And, by extension, don't play in the Champions League either. You are not at that level neither in a sporting nor human sense"
Hail Hail
Roccobhoy
Regarding Ivanschitz.......don't we all....i watched a video of him there and he's very good IMO
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGkiwQdAh28
Welcome Marc-Antoine to Celtic Park. We think more of a player whose ambition is not solely monetary. You could have made millions more in the EPL but a top class footballer at CFC will be a millionaire within a three year contact anyway - you have made the right decision – how many Ferraris do you need! The thought of playing in front of 60,000 every second week moreover against the best of Europe plays against the mind numbing relegation battles with Hull.
Let’s hope this is part one of a new trilogy - we have three priorities for the forthcoming season and certainly not the five or six players some scribes seem to think we require to win back this league. A goal scorer (done); a left back (please god); and sensible tactics (don’t drop your best man against RFC). We didn’t lose this league because RFC had better players nor because Smith was a brilliant tactician. You can’t win a league when two of your three forwards can’t score; you chop and change your tactics to suit the opposition; you play your favourites players regardless of their deficiencies (our ex captain).
Lets’ hope for a new age...............
All together says that he won't play for Panathinikos. Does not take a part in preseason games.
All websites confirm that club from Athens would like to sell Ivanschitz in this transfer window. Their Management spoke to two clubs. Two clubs are Celtic Glasgow and Osasuna.
If you check player's profile on transfermarkt.de website there are two mistakes. First that his contract expires in June 2010 not in 2012. Second mistake is market price 4 500 000 Euros. Panathinaikos wants btween 500 000 and 1 M Euros for the player.
Antsman,
I don't think Loovens fault that he was unable to break Caldwell/McManus partnership. That's one down to one mans stubborness. 15 million he would need to replace them, was the cry. Utter nonsense.
The more games he got the more he looked pretty decent. Will get a longer run now to prove himself. I hink people forget that Mowbray came up against Loovens in the championship, so he will know all about him and how highly he was rated down there.
His mate Roger Johnston, captain of Cardiff i think, just got his move a couple of weeks ago.
Zbyszek
Thanks
Welcome to Paradise Marc Antoine Fortune
WGS
Fair point and true TM will know about him i am sure.
For me tho he is too slow. We need at least one CB with some pace and assuming Caldwell will be a first pick that leaves a vacancy
Zybszek,
I take it Stilic has went from the radar? Still take the punt on Shabrini. Shabrini and Ivanchuis for a combined total of £2 million in transfer fees. That would be a steal IMO!!
Would read:
Out:
Hartley
Nakamura
Donati
In:
N'Guemo
Shabrini
Ivanchuiz
We are the centre halves and left back links? Woulde more of these as well as an out to out goalscorer.
Paul67,
Do you think Willo Flood will be around this time next year? I feel sorry for the guy. Got his career back on track at Utd and has stumbled again. Never understand that signing by Gordon.
I cannot believe Marc hasn't scored a goal yet.

Can you confirm, please? Transfermarkt says that Ivanschitz is left midfielder while some other sources say that he is left back.
Who he is then?
Interesting. He said to the newspaper that his wages at Panathinaikos are 300 000 Euros per year.
Antsman,
I agree with you, but who's to say that Gary will be staying. Last year of his contrct. Maybe Glenn might be first choice with a new centre halve.

Zybszek,
He's a midfield playmaker. (Nakas replacement i would see him as)
N'Guemo is a defensive midfielder that does dirty work and what we have missed. A bit of dig and destroyer in front of the defence.

Have you been hibernating for a year? The moans and groans on here have been that we have been doing precisely the opposite of what you suggest we have - ie we have been bringing players in for the future rather than the here and now.
Misun, McCourt, Mizuno, Hutchison, McGinn, the two Latvian bhoys, the other young English striker whose name escapes me...all great prospects who haven't quite developed sufficiently to cost a couple of million.
Even Crosas - who should be a first pick in every home game imho - was seen as a youngster with potential.
I guess we all see what we want to see when the wind blows in a certain direction!
Looking forward to trusting Tony Mowbray's judgement.
Antsman on July 8, 2009 9:29 PM
Can't disagree,
there are however loads of examples of the bizarre
Take Modric....£16 million, never played for big club....modest International experience including only one competetive goal and that was against Andorra
or take michael dawson....spurs paid £8 million for a 21 year old centre half who had never played in the premiership
or Fellaini....£15 million for a Belgian who played for Standard Liege and nobody else ever at a senior level
I would argue, none of them were worth anywhere near the fee paid
Chairbhoy, you make a very good point.
Bobby Murdochs ankle, not heard anything on that for over a week.
WGS, yes, I suspect Willo will be around for a while.
Rod Stewart, aye, a few more to come.
Can paul 67 or anybody else tell me why Nancy are so willing to loan out there players?
Antsman,
That was one of my main worries with Owen. We might have seen Brian Easton at left back.
I don't think Easton is good enough for the level Burnley are playing at. Might be wrong, but i haven't been to impressed with his signings. I would probably took Fletcher. But the rest and who he is linked with, makes me think that they will head straight back down.
WGS
Thanks

Been having a look about the other spl squads to see if any potential Celts out there. Only player who stands out (and also thought this when he played against us last season) is Andy Driver .
Would have thought he fitted the bill with regards to current signing policy and would represent better value for money than Commons.
A bid for Thompson of the huns should be made also. Don't think they would sell but reckon it would deeply unsettle a player, who imo, would love to be part of our new set up.
im a little bemused by the fact that its a 3 yr contract, so i would read that as a do well in your first year, and you may well get a further `better` contract.
i am however pleased by the fact that we have suddenly found a player who realises that playing for celtic is vastly superior than playing for hull.
that is rare in itself, so well done marc- antoine...... i havent seen you play, but im hopeful, after watching a CB playing CF and a heartless sub tring to do the same, i hope and pray, you are a pivotal part of the rebuild.
(3.8 mill, we are not skint, we have finally started the rebuild, with the underused or wrongly used talent we already have, it may well be getting a little more exciting to be a tim again)

Modric was a starnge one, but at that point paying big from Croatia was in vogue - Eduardo to Arsenal. That vigue seems to have moved to Russia. Zorkhov, Jo, Arshavin, Pavyluchenko etc Seems to correspond with how well the national team is doing.
Fellani has done well but it was a gamble at £15m and still not conviced he was worth it
Arguably this is happening/improving in the SPL to an extent

Seven Fishes,
Shabrini going on the cheap and nobody wanting him. Stilic has went all quiet. Would appear we have other players in mind. Kris Commons, Fernado Marquez and Andreas Invanchuiz.
We have signed Fortune. Got Landry N'Guemo on a year loan. Hopefully about to secure a left back. Looking at centre halves.
There are a few that could be on the way out.

xabi castillo update
apparantly castillo has chosen us ahead of bolton...he is however waiting to see if interest from 2 la liga sides materialises into a solid offer....his club are prepared to reduce the fee to €1 million although as a non spanish club we will only have to pay €190,000....neither of the unnamed la liga clubs is racing santander
we are apparantly going to pay him 500,000 euros a year , with a get out option at a fixed fee should a la liga team come in for him after 12 months
a decision was expected tomorrow, but it is now unlikely in the next week....this one seems 50/50 as to whether we get him, although he seems quite keen

Alot of excitemnet now we have signed someone. Nobody really talking about what we need tho.
On the basis of a 4-4-2 i would say
GK - Happy with Boruc/Zalusks
RB - Happy with Hinkel/Caddis
CB - Suggest we need a new CB with Caldwell/Loovens/McManus also fighting it out
LB - I would keep Naylor as back up and sign a new first choice LB
Wings - Maloney/Mizuno/Aiden/McCourt - Maloney's injury record my only concern. Think i could live with these with Robson/Flood able to be drafted in
CM - Brown/Crosas/Donati/Robson/Flood/N'Guemo - Decent but not great. Think one more of real quality would help. Depends on what N'Guemo is like and if TM sees Aiden/Suan through middle which would make the wings light.
ST - Samaras/Fortune/Skippy/Killen - Still need one more for me but can we afford that plus a CM and CB... Would revisit if we can raise funds selling
All in i think we need a CB/LB and CM. A winger would be subject to formation and another striker nice but only after other positions ares stregnthened.

Been a couple of times. Gardonne once and then Riva at the north end of the lake. Did all the trips including at night at the opera in Verona each time. Saw Nabucco and The Marriage of Figaro. I imagine Nancy are loaning / selling players because they trying to balance their books and get their wage bill down. They finished just above the relegation zone in L1 last season, so their tv payments will be reduced.
Given Le Credit Crunch in France, it may be their bank are now starting to ask for some of their loaned money back as well......

Believe he (Thompson) is being lined up to replace Fergihun as the new Captain. Forgot all about his cheating antics to be honest.
Another example of a certain breed of hun who obviously have to try that bit harder to "outhun" teammates to endear themselves .
A cheeky bid would still be nice to see who ultimately call the shots at the zoo.
Was it not WGS that started the Morientes rumour? Who'd care, i'd take the punt with him
Welcome Marc-Antoine, there are certain things that I think you need to be aware of:
1)You have decided to come to Scotland in the middle of a heat-wave - drink lots of water
2) you have chosen to join Celtic at a time when we face the most amazing Rangers team in history - good luck
3) No matter how much you wanted to work again with Tony Mowbray, the Scottish media will tell you that you didn't quite get the contract you wanted with an English Premiership club - tough teety
4) As soon as you have settled in Scotland and are doing well, someone from within the Scottish media will publish an inaccurate story about you, your wife/partner or kids being unsettled and in dire need of a transfer away from Celtic - that's the way it goes
5) if you score a goal against Rangers at Ibrox, do not celebrate - ask Craig Bellamy
6) The Scottish media will ask you to comment on how amazing Rangers are - laugh heartily up your sleeve whilst making silly comments about their "amazingness"
7) you will be booted up and down the park by hammer throwing SPL players - deal with it,you will be sent off if you react - even if you look at your opponent aggressively.
8) You will be the best player on the park by a mile in a Celtic v Rangers match, but Barry Ferguson (or A.N.Other Rangers player) will be the man of the match - this is an old tradition. It's silly, but it should be honoured whilst you stay in Scotland.
9) unfortunately (no pun intended) you injure your opponent in a challenge for a 50/50 ball - be prepared for SFA video evidence to give you an extended suspension
10) You have just joined the Mighty Glasgow Celtic - HAIL HAIL!!!!
Welcome to Celtic Marc-Antione Fortune!!

Figure of football wages of £33-34mill comes from the total group wages 2007/08 = £39mill.
Add in the football to group wages ratio from 2003-05 kindly provided by BQ in his Chairman remarks in the accounts.
Then add £1mill to the executive wage bill covered on the Total Group wages but not the football wages.
Mix thoroughly and hope for the best.
************************************
By way of a comparison, 2003/04 had football wages of £33.5mill.
More pertinitely the 2005/06 season had a figure very close to £25mill but this did include a very low level of bonus because of Black Sunday / CL failure.
2004/05 bonuses paid out in July 2005 and therefore part of the 2005/06 accounts.

i noticed that the damned are kicking up a fuss at how shoddy thier rankers merchandising is at the moment.
due to a last minute change rankers have now told thier knuckledraggers via thier website that Thier new strip will only now be available from the jjb r*ngers megastore or online for the next 6 weeks to allow fans the maximum opportunity to purchase?
there after they should be available at other jjb outlets.
what a strange way to market a branding?
or dont you think there could be a possibility that JJB are deliberately trying to p*ss rankers off by under selling thier 'new strip'?Possibly in order to pressure rankers into severing thier contract with jjb or buy thier rights back?

rankers new kit debacle
Rangers & JJB partnership: Flogging a dead horse?
, 8 July 20098 CommentsRangers released a statement earlier this week that the club had been informed by JJB that the new home kit was to be launched on Thursday 16th July, will only be available in the Rangers JJB Megastore at Ibrox stadium. Given the size of the club, this is a huge embarassment for the Ibrox side and more importantly proves the point made by Rangers fans that JJB Sports have not been pulling their weight in terms of the sale of Rangers merchandise.
The statement read, “Due to circumstances outwith the Club’s control, the new kit will not be available from the Argyle Street Rangers JJB store from July 16 as previously stated. The kit will be available in this store four to six weeks after the launch date at the same time as other sports retailers stock the strip.
The Club has worked closely with JJB to ensure supporters can purchase the new kit as early as possible and this has meant focusing on the Club’s sales channels - including online - to maximise availability of the range for all Rangers supporters.”
In comparison, rivals Celtic, who recently unveiled their International kit, have stocked the new kit not only in the Official Celtic stores across the country at the same time, but is also on sale within sports retailers such as Sportsdirect, Subside Sports and Kitbag etc. Proving that the partnership between Rangers and JJB is shambolic and a disaster in terms of merchandising, with the club receiving a mere £3 million a year from JJB as part of the deal engineered by Sir David Murray a number of years ago.
blantyretim

Re Rangers Strips
The most significant thing in that article is the following quote from Rangers' statement;
"The kit will be available in this store [JJB Argyle St] four to six weeks after the launch date at the same time as other sports retailers stock the strip."
I double checked the Rangers website for accuracy.
JJB have a solus supply license with Rangers. Which "OTHER SPORTS RETAILERS" are permitted to stock it, without the express permission of JJB?
Has there been an ammendment to the existing deal that I am not aware of? Will this affect the £3M license JJB pays Rangers annually?
Jings!
Update..... Ottessen going for around £800,000 making a revised total of £7,490,000
WGS/gallagher
Good stuff. See any Scots in this, or at least Scottish-based players? I'm thinking Wallace and Gomis, McCarthy even? Have to say the likes of Castillo and especially Ivanschitz sound more enticing.
Bloke_109
Couldnt resist, thought it was genius :)
look out for the WGS and AMcG arguement vid too!
Judging by the photos in I'm not sure Andreas Ivanschitz knows how to play football.
Bloke_109
Lee Wallace? I'm not keen on him......................
Gomis yes but as you rightly point out Ivanschitz is more enticing, experienced and better than him i'd venture ,i think he's the Austrian captain too.
James McCarthy isn't the finished article yet IMO, maybe we should buy him and loan him back, Italian style.
Bloke_109
Good shout with McCarthy, i dont think he would walk into our team at the moment but TM is one of the best managers for giving young players a chance and this would obviously help the lad develop into the player i think everyone knows he can/will be. Also the profibility of this move could be excellent in a financial sense as i would see us spending max 1.5mill on him now but give him 3 or so years and you could easily make that x4? Now that would be good asset management ( a phrase that seems to be getting thrown around an awful lot just now! )
pol
Bhoys and Ghirls in Oz....
I just thought I'd pen a few words, wishing you all well regarding Celtic's upcoming visit. Having been over 30 years in Canada, pre-internet and satellite tv......I can well appreciate the effort you guys put in to follow Celtic.
Back in the early days of the internet...mid, late 90's.....we had the Big List, which included lots of Australian and New Zealand Tims.
We also had a thing called IRC. A wonderful gentleman in Scotland, Charlie Harvey (the original Tic Talk) would listen to the radio and/or watch tv, and type the commentary on Internet Relay Chat. Charlie developed a style that kept the action flowing for us.
As soon as he'd type 'Goal Celtic!', everyone across the world would type their cheers - and the whole thing would crash!!! We'd all have to log off and log on again.
The reason I mention this, is that there were many down-under Tims who would go to bed, set the alarm for some ungodly hour, and get up in the middle of the night, crank up the computer and follow Charlie's comms.
I was always impressed by your dedication. We moan and complain about kick off times here in North America, but we are extremely fortunate, compared to what you guys have to put up with. This was brought home to me on a visit to Sydney, where I lined up at midnight or 1am Monday morning to watch Celtic with several hundred fellow supporters.
So....at last you have Celtic in your own backyard. It must be wonderful for you, and I truly hope that you have a memorable weekend.
Celtic played Roma in the Skydome in Toronto a few years back. Over 50,000 fans, must have beem 35,000 Tims. One of the great aspects of that was the fact that old codgers got to take their kids and grandkids to see Celtic. Some of these kids had no idea what dad was pratlling on about all these years. They get it now.
Have a great time, guys. You deserve it!!
The big Spanish sports paper marca says Deportivo La Coruna are in for Xabi Castillo. They mention Celtic and West Brom but the strange thing is that they say he is out of contract and so would not cost Deportivo anything. This contradicts the story on here that Spanish clubs would have to pay a hefty fee unlike non Spanish clubs. Anyone know the truth?
Further to an earlier reminder about Colin Cameron after the thuggish tackle on John Kennedy (described in today's Scotsman as 'brutal' by the way), here's Cameron's words the day after. Cameron, remember, was in the Scotland side that night:
"The tackle itself could have been prevented, because the referee blew his whistle just before it," said Cameron. "You are talking about two guys who are honest and who have gone for the ball.
"The only thing I would say is that John is a wee bit younger than Ioan, who has a wee bit more experience and went in a bit higher. Ioan’s exactly the same in training, he will go in for the ball 50-50 but he will look after himself at the same time.
"He’s just an honest lad, he doesn’t hang out of tackles in training. He is just a 100 per cent kind of guy but I don’t think there is any malice in him. I think it is just his style of play.

regards to time difference, i think you in Canada have it worse. i have a watched a few games on the eastern side of states and Canada. i can reember watching a game in toronto at 7am in the windsor arms, with a stinking hangover on a Sat morning in 2000.
I much prefer here. for half the season its only 9 hours time difference, eg huns game 9:30pm KO or home game midnight on sat night, not too bad, i can enjoy a few beers. When it becomes 11 hours it is a little hard trying to focus on the screen with 2am KO:) although God knows what times we will KO next year.
Still ok for us with Setanat overseas tho, they still have rights for SPL:)

Our bus convener met him whilst on holiday in Turkey recently, just after Tony Mowbray was appointed, and he said he'd love to go back especially with TM in charge
For the whisky drinkers out there,I,m now indulging in a Bowmore 12 year old.Smoky incense,smoky/sweet flavour, and a long finish.Excellent stuff, and after a couple of pints in the Wallace in Stirling, a touch of hilarity at the serious gloom at the way Rangers are not hitting any headlines. They really do think they should be buying players, not selling them, and no mention of the Wonderkid. The Wallace is a Bear's bar,now becoming in touch with the real world due to the students at the local Stirling Uni just up the road, and migrant workers who have decided they like Scotland are would like to live there permanently.Guess who these people(migrant workers)support? Is it Ed's hordes of underschooled Untermensch?Nay,and thrice nay,to quote a late under-rated comedian. It's the Celts.Add in the addition of a player who actually chose to play for less money than he could get at EPL clubs, then the penny will finally drop (for some).
Riordon to return? You have got to be kidding me.
Not in a million years. That is almost as bizarre as some people hoping Mowbray would give Bobo a new contact.

Only reporting what i was told and answering a query....Riordan would like to come back and the Bhoyfromcults would like him to return.....that's all as far as i know.I don't want him back as we can do better i believe and have better too.
weeronn - Thanks for the sentiments. I didn't know about the online commentary in the 90s. Must've been nerve-racking at times.
I and my son are really looking forward to Brisbane on Sunday. There are 10 of us - 7 Scots and 3 Aussies - setting off from the Gold Coast at 9am.
I spent 2001 to 2003 in Seattle and used to watch BBC text updates of big games and latterly, could get a few games live on the radio via the internet.
Worst of all was the run-up to Seville. I actually watched text updates of the games up to and including the first-leg v Liverpool. I was back in the UK for the 2nd leg and normal service was resumed.
I am Motherwell born and bred, and one day in early 2003 I was sitting in my Seattle balcony listening to internet radio commentary of Motherwell v Celtic. We were nip and tuck with Rangers for the SPL and every point was precious. At half-time it was 0-0 and I rushed off to the shop for more beer. It took me longer than I expected and by the time I got back, my partner was shouting at me from the balcony, "Good news Tom. They've scored a goal." I let out a cry of joy. It wasn't until I got back onto the balcony that I realised it was Motherwell who had scored. The poor woman assumed my team was Motherwell, bless her. I then had to explain to her why I wasn't rooting for my home town team.
gallacher- No problem mate. I wasn't having a go at you, just the very idea.
Sydney Tim, I think you mean the Windsor House in Toronto.I played there in the 70's and the guy who owned it(Jimmy ****)barred us from ever coming back.Too Republican, don't you know.He was a Belfast man who sported a Southern Irish accent,as a lot of the singers and groups of the time did.We were too near the knuckle for him, although we packed the place.I quite liked Toronto, even though there was a very big Orange influence about the city.I think the Canadians themselves are a great people---independant and conscientious.

I left Islay for the Arctic in 1976. No telephones. No tv. But a great adventure.
I knew that Celtic were playing Aberdeen in the LC final on a particular date and I got on a radio, called an operator and got her to patch me through to me wee Mother in Ballygrant. This was the first time they had heard from me since I left.
What's the score, I asked?
1-1 she said. So? I said. Extra time, she said.
So I stayed on the line, paying billions of dollars a minute, or so it seemed. Final whistle. Pause 1-1 she said. No date on the replay. Goodbye.
WEEKS later, I got a newspaper off a pilot, it was a bit dated, but it told me we had actually lost 1-2. F%%^%%^^!!!!
More gazillions of dollars to get hold of my Mother. Great grief I gave her.
Och a'bhallaich, she said. after you calling all that way from Canada, i couldn't bring myself to tell you the truth......
Dumbfounded, I was.......
AS Nancy have confirmed that Landry N'Guemo has joined Celtic on a season long loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer thereafter.
weeronn - fantastic story.
Mothers eh?
Bless 'em.
No kidding, Tom.
I hope that Celtic put on a show for you bhoys and ghirls this week......
raymac yeh windor something, my eyes were a but blurry, it was a bit away from main area and a big mural on the wall. 1-0 motherell Stan P
My canadian mate went back in there 3 weeks later to watch the 1st huns game of the season, he turned 20 minutes late and asked someone the score, 3 0 to celts " aye right he said" of course it was true 6-2 FT :))))
Hail Hail Everyone.
Im flying up to Brisbane on Friday night from Melbourne.
I came over to Australia in 1978 and have not seen celtic live since then.Weeronn I can relate to a lot of what you said. Many a night listening to shortwave radio ( sounded like the moon landing )waiting on the newspapers from back home.Back then I lived in Adelaide and we use to get the games video taped and sent over on a weekly basis and show them at a pub in town .We use to get between 50 and 100 people every week.I just hope the Bhoys put on a good show for the thousands of Celtic supporters in Oz.
Can't Wait !
Zut alors, Mon dieu.
Two players signed in two days. Has someone slipped something in the SSM's drink.
Nine years ago Martin O'Neill ushered in the GOD as he signed a succession of proven players.
The welcome mat was worn down as Sutton, Thomson, Valgaeren, Lennon, Douglas and Agathe all arrived to form a lasting spine.
Every single one of them contributed to the demise of Rangers.
Now I am being asked to applaud the signing of a striker who doesn't, a striker who was loaned out to a relegation threatened EPL team, because he couldn't command his place in a French side struggling to stay out of the relegation zone.
Now the Glasgow coat of arms can be amended and we can add:
The striker who doesn't score
to
the tree that never grew,
the bird that never flew,
the fish that never swam,
the bell that never rang.

Blogger 'GG - "Every single one of them contributed to the demise of Rangers."
So you have already decided that Fortune will make no contribution, based on his track record. So how come the likes of Agathe and Sutton made such a big contibution, despite their own unimpressive track records?
Did you complain about us spending a pittance on a Swedish player from a Dutch team who basically sacked him? Probably.
Did you moan about us buying an unknown, ageing Slovakian from an unfashionable French club? Probably.
Give us a shout when you land on planet earth mate.
GG
I dont think you can realistically call Thomson, Valgaeren or Agathe proven players. All of these guys made the bulk of their reputations at Celtic and even Chris Sutton was coming off a season where he scored I think one goal for Chelsea.
Only Lennon I think could be descibed as proven.
The sun and VB is warping your best judgement laddie.
Sutton had proven himself before he went to Chelsea.
Agathe had shown his worth in Scotland and we certainly didn't break the bank to sign him. What was it 40k?
Lubo was a proven but ageing internationalist, in fact I remember him playing in Italy in the World Cup.
Neither of the latter two nor Henrik were hailed as marquee signings, unlike Fortune.
I will gladly back him, and hope he doesn't give our friends south of the river the chance to call him missFortune.
But don't expect this HappyClapper to applaud the obvious lack of ambition in our signing targets.
'GG who can't be talked into opTIMism.
I haven't posted for an age and when I do the Antipodeans are ganging up on me.
Re Sutton, he had proven himself a goalscorer and a line leader at both Norwich and Blackburn where he and Shearer were lethal.
His season at Chelsea was a blip or a dip and he didn't seem to fit in there.
Valgaeren(sp?) had just come off a very successful world cup appearance where MON obviously rated him.
Hope you're well Michael. What have you done for victims in my absence?
'GG smiling at last.
Editor's correction.
It was Euro 2000 not the WC where MON commented on Joos.
We apologise for any harm or hurt incurred.

Can you imagine phoning in a pizza order for this address?
Evening all.
Did the other Nancy bhoy sign too? A club open to all indeed.
I think 2 left backs are required. Get shot of Naylor. Midfield should be ok. Koki and Simon Ferry should be given a chance. Also Big Tony wanted to sign Paddy McCourt before DD snapped him up. The bhoy McGinn might be worth a run out too. Scott Cuthbert, Darren, GC and Big Glen with SmcM and JFK as back up suggests we are well covered at central defence.
Here we go to 1 in a row.
emusanorphan evening sir :) must say your " we are well covered in defence" is behind the couch material. SmcM eh ? i think that experiment is over of having a non ball winning center half.
regarding JK, i am one of the few who can remember his run in the 1st team all those years ago, i am afraid the Titanic turns quicker.
GC and Big Glenn along with Darren leaves us woefully short of cover at Center half

Good morning.
The sun is shining (in EK!! so pity I'm about to trek off to Edinburgh) and we have the first new signings of the season. Not sure when the players leave today for Oz but a further signing would be superb.
Chris Commons or James Morrison would do me.

Sydney Tim -
Kitalba has some spare tickets for me to collect, so I have planned to meet him at Gilhooley's. I'll speak to him tonight on the phone and firm up on arrangements, but so far it's Gilhooley's.
We will jump on the 8:59 train at Nerang (Gold Coast) and be at Gilhooley's by 10:15 or thereabouts.
How about just meeting up there?
GG
I think you are getting a bit hung up on this Marquee signing business. The fee being bandied around the media of 3.8 million is highly unlikely to be the actual fee we paid. Massimo Donatti arrived on a reported similar fee but WGS later said the fee was closer to 1.5 million.
So if we have paid 1.5 or 2 million for him does he still look like bad business considering there were a few clubs publicly interested in him.
Any way I'm doing very well thank you and frothing with excitement ahead of this weekends green and white festivities in Brisbane.
Sydney Tim -
A few hours ago I said there were 10 of us coming up from the Gold Coast for the game, 2 of whom are a father and son originally from Glasgow, neither of whom have seen Celtic for about 20 years. The son (S) is 31 and his father (W) is 57. Anyway, about an hour ago I took a phonecall from S. Turns out his father had a minor heart attack yesterday and is today undergoing surgery. Was a bit of a shock, but on the lighter side, yesterday W lying in his hospital bed as the surgeon descibed to him and his wife and son what had happened to him and what he was going to do during the surgery.
W said, "How long will I have to stay in hospital?"
"Oh no more than 48 hours I should imagine," said the surgeon.
"That's good," said W. "I've got a ticket for the Celtic game on Sunday."
The surgeon was adamant.
"There is no way you are going to see Celtic on Sunday," he commanded. "You mustn't get too over-excited for a while after surgery."
Typical Celtic supporter really LOL.
Is it really, can it be?
One signing opening the flood gates?
Some very exciting rumours posted last night.
Can anyone put me out of my misery and confirm there is now no chance of us getting Janko. The continued talk has to be delusional don't it?
Cheers...
Gold Coast Tom sure i know where it is, i am attending the breakfast 1st at o'malleys from 10am till about 11:30 and the Q and A session with Andy lunch. Gilhooley's straight after that, i think Michael Collins will be there also, so you will meet him 1st, i know MC so i will catch u all up there. :)) looking forward to it.
Gold Coast Tom shit, i hope W is ok. really bad, but i suppose if he is out in 48hrs it must be not too bad, good luck W and S :)))))))))))
Think we all need to stop the 'infighting' and concentrate our minds on the problems across the water at TFOD.
Sure we lost the league and yes it's never good to see it lifted by the likes of Nacho Neddo and his cohorts but the bigger picture is that Scotland's shame are a club in MELTDOWN. But you would never read that from the lapdog loyal press in Scotland.
Consider this; at a recent press conference Nosurname stated that 'there will be NO signings made by the club this summer', 'players are for sale' and '6 players from the 'YOUTH TEAM' will make up the squad! Nosurname also stated that the first team squad had to be cut to 20 players for the coming season 2009/2010.
NO cracked club crest!
NO 'Club in Crisis' banner head lines
NO 'biscuit tin mentality' stories
If you read the press WE are the club in crisis!!!
TM will prove to be a better manager than WGS in all respects. I predict YEARS of dominance from the Popes Eleven and 3rd or 4th place for TFOD for many, many years to come.
Do you really think their demise would have been any quicker had we won the league last season. They are going down regardless of what we do or don't do.
Remember; Faithful through and through!

Paul67 - A few more to follow?
I haven't seen too much of MAF, actually I haven't seen him play at all, due to my lack of interest in English football, but hopefully he will do a turn for Celtic.
But it's always good to have fresh faces at the club. Here's hoping he can help get that title back.
joshsdad - 'infighting'??
Where is that?
ST
Darren is the best defender at the club. I thought GL attacked the ball well last season. Not sure we need a threepenny heid CH like Bobo. Appreciate your comments but I believe we have some guys due a chance in their true positions.

Not just on CQN but the celtic community in general.
Are you seriously suggesting that all Celtic fans are right behind the board, the manager, the players and 'with the program'? I'm a season ticket holder and heard it week in week out last season. How bad the manager is, how bad certain players are, how the board only think of the PLC. And all the while TFOD are laughing up their sleeves at us; distracting us away from the REAL issues;
The Famine Song
Compliant Media
Compliant officialdom (Lafferty and 'Bougieman' incidents)
A club in serious meltdown
£458 million debt of Moonbeams Holdings
Racist abuse of ANY coloured player at a Huns away game
A Murderous support (Kevin McDaid only one of many) need I go on.
Football is all about confidence and it cant be good for any Celtic player to listen to 'fans' decrying team mates (or them personally) about their/teammates/the club's failings in the supermarket, the pub, restaurant, phone ins etc.
That's what I mean by 'infighting'

Is the Fortune Press Conference on live anywhere?
I hear it's at 10.30am
Be looks of it I picked a helluva night to take the missus to see Keane in Dubai...A warm welcome to Fortune.....has it been confirmed we have signed Landry N'Guemo on loan.
My main concern is how many extra seats we'll need on the plane to Australia today....all these players linked as well...oh the excitement!!!
I just hope Peter Grant tells Fortune to use the Chris Sutton line when he signed..."I'm here to put Rangers in their place"
joshsdad - Celtic supporters are the same as fans of any club. People have different opinions regardless of what teams they support. It's not exactly in-fighting.
Certainly when you read message boards it is be easy to assume there is a major problem, but if you look carefully at the posters’ names then you realise it is just the same people with the same gripes day after day. What's more - these folk are anonymous. Anyone can post on the internet. To be honest, I take most of it with a pinch of salt.
As for the Huns … most of the Scottish media is compliant, no doubt. But it has become clear that the reluctance of the Scottish media to report the Huns’ financial pearl has worked in our favour. After all, Murray is not only still in charge at Ibrox, but he can't shift the club because of the debt. That can only be good for Celtic. Had the media reported the facts instead of doing a PR job on Murray’s behalf for 20 years then Rangers might well be in a better situation than they currently are.
Same goes with the refusal to make an issue of their sectarian signing policy. Alex Ferguson refused to take the job when he had the chance in the early 80s. Had the Huns been like every other club on the planet, they might have achieved something of note with Ferguson at the helm. Let’s just think what Ferguson would have done with the kitty Nosurname had in his first spell at the club.
The murder of KMcD has been given coverage on Newsnight – a programme that reaches far more homes than any of the Scottish tabloids.

Morning fellow tims
I'm just enquiring as to whether the murder of Kevin McDaid was recent or not? Reason I ask is, I live in Ireland and hardly ever hear of sectarian murders in Scotland when they happen, its normally not until I go over to glasgow for matches that I hear of anything like that happpening.
Hail Hail.

if this is the icelandic boy, then yes i would go for him,he has pace, powerful and aggressive in the tackle, very comfortable on the ball,i think hes a right full back, but looks like he could play at centre, half, and maybe as a sitting midfielder also, very versatile player.
i would be very happy if we signed thid guy,i think we could get him for a decent price also, heres hoping:))

rocco -Kevin Mcdaid was killed the night the Shame won the league[ May 24th?]. Another man was severely beaten up the same night and may still be in hospital.

agree with you completely but we now, more than ever, need to show a united front. Good times lie ahead.
Growing up in the west of scotland as a catholic; getting spat on, punched or kicked (sometimes both), called a f**ian f***er as you walked to PRIMARY school tends to make a person a little angry.
And especially growing up during the barren years of Liam Brady and Lou MacAri (Stuart Slater, Andy Payton and Wayne Biggins anyone!) Listening to the tripe about the current state of the club puts things in perspective don't you think.
Regardless, I'm a celt4life!

joshsdad/Steinreignedsupreme,
Two excellent posts, which reflect my own views on the nature of supporters.
The consistent, perpetual griping of the same small group of posters is wearying and resembles the dripping tap. We all see the good and bad at the club, but keep our counsel private, not do the tabloids job for them.
It seems to be just the nature of some people to look for negatives and if there are none, then invent some. Fear is probably a factor in this.
As far as the media's silent testimony to affairs of Rangers is concerned, I am convinced that this has been to our long term benefit, even though it is hard to thole at times.
The one problem I have is, that without contemporary reporting, there will be no written record of these matters for archivists and historians to visit in future years.
All the records will show will be of the "most successful entrepreneur in Scotland's history" and the "dignified, affable managerial genius" of mononame.
Support the Coz in OZ, bhoys.

At the risk of upsetting a few people, I really do not think it is fair to criticise Rangers FC and Rangers fans in general because of the horrific murder of Kevin McDaid in Coleraine on the day we lost the title. The political situation and the deep-rooted history of sectarian violence in NI is surely a unique situation in the greater scheme of the traditional Celtic/Rangers rivalry as we know it here in Scotland and elsewhere.
Of course there have been murders of Celtic fans in Scotland, and the vast majority of Rangers fans would and have condemned such crimes, but the murder of Kevin McDaid is something more than just a football related sectarian atrocity. I just do not believe that we should include such killings in a list of reasons to villify Rangers and the Rangers support.
Just a thought.

I have to agree with that. There have been problems in Coleraine for many many years and if this terrible murder hadn't happened after we lost the league, it would have happened at some other time. Earlier on this week, a 17 year old boy was beaten up by another loyalist gang in Coleraine.

It is Rangers FC that provide the banner for these thugs to operate under.
As you said, the murder of Celtic fans is not exclusive to the North of Ireland, there have been well documented cases of similar elsewhere, but the common denominator is that evil organisation.

joshsdad - I too grew up in the West of Scotland and for a couple of months was actually confronted by protesting bigots outside the non-denominational school which I had to attend after fire damaged several classes at my own faith school.
Many of the people holding their placards no doubt now express the view that there should be no faith schools at all – obviously with no understanding of irony.
thomthethim - correct about the perpetual griping ... although much of it is really sh1tstirring from people desperate to get a rise.
But not all the records will show Murray up positively. Aside from people like Spiers and Gibbons writing realistic articles on Murray, the records in Companies House are what matter most. And they tell the real story.
Hail Hail
Is this harsh or not really? Can you imagine the uproar if this was written in Scotland with Celtic or Rangers substituted for Sunderland? From the Guardian rumour mill.
"Sunderland want to pay £2.5m for pointless awol Boro ace Mido, who will score one goal in his first match, celebrate like he's won the World Cup single-handedly, then get fat, sit on the bench, disappear and end up moving back to Boro for £2.5m."

tomthetim - "It is Rangers FC that provide the banner for these thugs to operate under"
I do not think it is realistic to assert that the brutal murderers of Kevin McDaid needed a football club to provide them with the banner to operate under.
I was reminded of the following quote from the wonderful Jurassic Park on reading the news last night;
Ian Malcolm: "God creates dinosaurs. God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man. Man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs."
Ellie Sattler: "Dinosaurs eat man... woman inherits the earth."
The news in question is a new technique for creating sperm from stem cells. The researchers in question have, they believe, succeeding in differentiating human embryo derived stem cells into viable sperm.
So what?
Well, concurrently, work is speeding ahead in the area of induced pluripotential stem cells. These are ordinary, mature cells taken from any part of the body, which are regressed to stem cell status, and which can then be differentiated into any given cell type required. It is possible today to envisage within 10 years that organs and other tissue can be cultivated from your own skin cells to provide genetically matched cells for treatment.
Segue iPS with the new sperm technique, and you can foresee the redundancy of the male of our species. In simple terms, a woman provides a tissue sample, which is regressed to stem cell status, differentiated to sperm, and is then used to fertilise another woman's egg. Because the sperm cells originate in a female, there will be no Y chromosome, so all such births would be female.
In a future world in which males are reproductively redundant, and in which female births represent 95% of all human births, what value is Marc-Antoine Fortune? £3.8 Million is a drop in the ocean. The return on investment could be huge.
I like that our board are so far sighted, so utterly strategic in their recruitment policy.
DBBIA
You must like your cauliflowers a lot to waste good beer on slugs. What's wrong with a shotgun? Put some slugs in the slugs.

The Battered Bunnet - a female dominated society would be a dystopian nightmare of people squatting miserably in caves in between hormone-fuelled catfights over who gets access to the last remaining men. It would be a horrible existence for both sexes.
Now, I'm not anti-woman, my girlfriend is a woman, for example. But I have noticed that when women try to branch out from their core competencies of ironing and making sandwiches, disaster ensues. Women voting has led to increasingly nannyish, overbearing government. Women driving has clogged up our roads with people who think biting their lip, closing their eyes, and flooring it is a good overtaking strategy.
Women are great to look at so long as they're not old or fat, but civilisation is born out of the restless genius of men for building things and improving things. Let's not kid ourselves, scientific progress is driven by men and no woman could have invented the synthetic sperm.
TBB
Did you mean "pluripotent stem cells"?
If the male of the species is headed for redundancy should our board be charged with paying more attention to the female side, thus doubling our target market when scouting for new players?
Anyhoo, I hope MAF lives up to the pluripotentiality of his Celtic career.

that was just the school kids, the adults where even wosre, looking back it resembles the racism in the american south in the 60s,all those hate filled faces, witnessing all this at a young age really does change you as a person, its hard not to hate them back, but you have to try and be the bigger better person, otherwise it will just continue forever, and i for one would give anything in the world to make sure my kids,or your kids dont have to go through what we had to.

Men are clever enough to invent and stupid enough to actually do so. Turkeys voting for Christmas (or any other tired, cliched and overused analogy of your choice)
I have yet to meet a woman who doesn't hate ironing or a man who has not said smugly at least once to his she-love "Ironing's a dawdle. I don't know why you get so worked up about it"

ibleedgreenandwhite - I can't say it made me hate anyone. At the time I was a bit confused, but I was only about eight-years-old.
I do remember my parents discussing the situation though and they seemed surprised at who some of the protesters were - although not all of them. But they were small in number, about 15 to 20 knuckledraggers, and they were pretty much treated as outcasts by a lot of folk after that.
Sad, sad people. I still got highers though!

La Real put a price tag of €2m on him for an internal transfer. Rácing cannot and will not pay that much, but El Mundo Deportivo says La Real made it clear during yesterday's discussion that it is willing to accept a lower fee.
La Real would prefer this to the player going to Celtic, or anyone else in another league, because it's the only way for them to get any money in for Xabi Castillo.
So is everyone a winner?
Well, the possible problem with yesterday's nice wee chat is that Xabi himself would have to be willing to accept a smaller salary to go to Rácing. He might accept that. Santander is only about 150 km from his place of birth, Durango.
Interesting to note that La Real already have a replacement left back lined up, Alberto de la Bella, from Seville's second team.
Estadio,
Go stand in the corner.......everyone in office now looking at me :o)

Congratulations on your very happy news.
God bless that wee bhoy, and his ma and da.
Paul67:"We don't often get good comparative news with our bloated southern neighbour, so it is enormously pleasing that Marc-Antoine has chosen Celtic instead of buying into the incessant self-promotion that goes on in English football."
Do you suppose that's why Tony Mowbray chose Celtic?
The Scotsman now reporting the N'Guémo deal is done.
So welcome Marc-Antoine and Landry!!
Here's hoping you are the first of the new Mowbray Revolution.

Chaps - the official Website said there was press conference at 10:15am
Anyone seen or heard anything from that? Was it just Marc Antoine?
or Did Landry make an appearance.

agree with ur shopping list mate
although my top priority would be another srtiker
a FULL poacher
top priority should be a quality left back, seen as we have being needing one for the last 5 years:((((
hail hail
Lennondinho
Agreed. While I think a new left back would be a useful addition I think a quality poacher who can score goals from nothing would be far more beneficial.
this would help us convert 0-0 away draws to 1-0 wins.

All the records will show will be of the "most successful entrepreneur in Scotland's history" and the "dignified, affable managerial genius" of mononame.
----------------
Not this record (he said shamelessly promoting himself) ;o)
Fortune will wear no 10
Nothing on the Official site about Landry, so who knows.
Press conference on SSN
Hey Lenondinho san,
Bought a 50% stake in my wee bro's season ticket so will maybe see more of you and Jim B in the black bull next season.
I should point out my bro is not a malcontent but has decided to prioritise his Saturday afternoon pub team career before time and the genes (and pies) kick in and he develops my tag team wrestler's physique.
N'Guemo has not signed & will not travel to Australia but could be signed in next 48 hours according to Tony Mowbray
tonybananas - I bought and read your book. Very enjoyable.
Do you have an e-mail?
Ironing shirts is a dawdle these days. There are loads of far worse domestic chores.
I would never iron my wife's - too many strange fabrics - plus it's demeaning. I have never ironed my wife either.
Lennondinho18 on July 9, 2009 11:35 AM
Agreed but then again we've signed Fortune so I don't think we'll see another striker of note.
I agree wit Ibleed.. we havne't had a decent left back in years. We have an international right back who was coming onto a game last season (one of few that could be said of really) so for balance it would be nice if we had a decent left back.

Thanks SteinRS
e-mail is tony.bananas101@googlemail.com
Just another reason for not puting two and two together and coming up with 57 … or "logic" as someone might put it!!
Tony Mowbray on Derby winger Kris Commons: "I saw that running the other day and I'm not sure where that has come from.
"He's not a player we have discussed. It's the power of TV. The whole world believes something if they see it running across their screens.”
donegal danny
your going to have to stop agreeing with me mate, people are going to start talking:))))
getting a good left back would in my opinion bring more balance to the team, which we have been missing for a long time.
hail hail

I see the logic comment there obviously aimed at me.
Thanks for the mention.

Left Back, Attacking Midfielder POACHER of goals now Tony please.

England 423-9.
ibleedgreenandwhite on July 9, 2009 11:56 AM
I can't imagine anyone would disagree with our need for a left back chief! :-)
A poacher would've been nice but I can't see it now. Maybe Skippy will be free to take up that role now that he probably won't have to drop so deep to recieve the bal, but I'm sure all will be revealed when BTM set up takes shape. I'm sure it will be afr far more fluid felxible and interchangeable than the previous regime.

Dontbrattback
I hate cricket but can't avoid it because its wall to wall on Sky Sports. I respect others right to be interested and post about it on CQN.
But even with my loathing of the sport, I couldn't help but notice that the English media have airbrushed the 2007 Ashes out of history. They keep harping on about 2005 and the re-match, can Freddie & co do it again etc. etc.
Sorry re-match was in 2007 and you got pumped 5-0.
I remember reading some headline after the 4th test when England made a good start along the lines "England look set to regain their crdibility by winning the 5th test..."
Besides the fact they then crumbled and lost that one too.... Would that be the 'credibility' of only being pumped 4-1 instead of 5-0??
Mr Z,
Time for some investigating mate. Andreas Ivanschtuiz might be heading over this way right enough. Time for some digging mate.

Congratulations.

Contrary to what Barcabhoy said last night, Rácing are still in the frame for Xabi Castillo."
Celtic_First
I didnt actually say Racing were out of the frame....what i said wqs that Castillo was waiting for 2 other offers from La Liga clubs, neither of whom was Santander. It appears Vallodolid are one of the 2 , the other hasn't been revealed yet. Santander's offer has been on the table for a while
Well we finally signed someone - hurrah!!
This MUST only be a start - we need another good striker and a few others - remember this still leaves us with only 3 strikers (one of them a bit of a waste of time).
So the bunting isnt out yet.
tee hee
looks like the permaragers are ragin' again:-
I dont think they like the JJB deal
The Rangers /JJB marketing dream
ps Some language not suitable for children, except perhaps Minipermaragers
