Wigan players money well spent
I know that Wigan Athletic players refunding their travelling fans ticket money for the 9-1 defeat away to Tottenham was little more than a token from some very wealthy athletes but you have to respect it nonetheless. Tokens can be important; this one said, we share the pain and accept the blame.
This will not become the norm, defeat is always a potential outcome of any game, although 9-1 defeats are not the norm, but teams need to look for ways to connect with fans, especially when the going gets tough. If a few grand does this for the Wigan players it will be money well spent.

if our players took up this theyd soon be broke the way things are going at the moment
one of the problems nowadays is that our squad is full of overpaid underachievers, and the fans find it difficult to empathise with players who are paid this kind of money
hence howls and roars with every slack pass etc.

Tommy Burns said on becoming Celtic Manager that “If you tell players often enough they are cr**, then they’ll get to believe it and play like it”. The players are clearly not good enough, or the team , and the manager is struggling. But what about the fans? Is the team going to be faced with a scenario at the next home game of a luke warm reception and very little encouragement from the stands? Probably. Seems to me in situations like this in the past that the Celtic fans have responded by roaring their encouragement to the team from the start, at least playing their part in starting a revival. The players have responded to this emotional surge previously and I encourage my fellow fans to roar the team on from the start against St Mirren and I’ve no doubt the team will respond. I think the week ahead should be about positivity, defiance and encouragement from all sources. Have a moan before and after but for those 90 minutes………No changes if any in personnel till January anyway so let’s play our part. Sack the board, back the team! Best fans in the world?
Regarding my question about German playing Hoops. Here are the 12 so far. I don't know the 13th myself off the top of my head. Something tells me he was recent enough and probably quite obvious.

excellent post. we, the fans, should be behind the team from the start every game, no matter how hard that may be.
Its a bit like teaching, you dont tell a pupil theyre crap and are gonna fail, you encourage them and try to get them to do better
Wigan have certainly set an interesting precedent - is this the opposite of performance related pay?

agreed but it won't happen. the St Mirren fans will sing for the whole game but our fans will sit on their backsides moaning. I have been going to sit in the Lisbon Lions for this last few years to get a feel of an atmosphere. why? because it is near the away support. perhaps if our manager had adopted the tactic you are suggesting we as fans do, then we'd have been in a far better position?
If we as fans don't make it clear that the current situation is completely unacceptable, & that we need a man in who knows what he is doing, & who is given funds to strengthen, do you think that the board will do anything other than adopt the same course as they are on, keep Tony till at least the end of the year, & spend little in january?

Again, agreed. No teacher worthy of the name would tell pupils they were rubbish (and I speak from experience as a teacher).
And before the negative crew leap in, there is a massive difference between telling a full class that some are not good enough for that level (and hoping to be proved wrong)and naming individuals. TM did the former.

On Sunday night I decided thru my anger that I was not going this Saturday.I have calmed down now and will be going, I will be roaring the boys on but they must give us something back in return. It must be a victory nothing less will do, some good football thrown in would be nice but a ugly win will do for starters.I would even accept a boring hun like win.

Its an interesting concept as I have no doubt that our own players and manager are significantly disconnected from the fans
Whilst I am an admirer of the business acumen of our board, they are so far disconnected from the average fan as to be on a different planet
I also fear that our club has become little more than a plaything to its majority shareholder and supposed fellow fan
Ming
lurgan/manchester
agreed, but the point i was trying to make is that it was our manager who started the ball rolling by constantly saying that the players were of insufficient quality, & undermining their confidence.
For all the failings, & they are many, of the board,(including sanctioning the inexplicable appointment of Tony), the major problem we have is that our manager is not remotely good enough to be in charge of our great club, & who needs to be shown the door on an urgent basis.

penang - amd a good point it is. Mowbray should take a look at how fergusson deals with poor individual performances. He always supports the player publicly, though ive no doubt that behind closed doors it is a different matter entirely
Who is the manager of Wigan is it the guy Celtic was thinking about Martinez?
timjim @ 1235
Your comment entirely mirrors my emotions.
Celtic don't half put us through the wringer, but that's only because we care.
Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan is already looking to the January transfer window.
The Boro boss is yet to record a victory since succeeding Garth Southgate at the end of October.
He has already bolstered his ranks with the loan signings of Dave Kitson, Marcus Bent and Isaiah Osbourne.
But Strachan's side are struggling for form and he is already looking towards the New Year.
"As a manager you're always thinking and I'd be a strange manager if I wasn't thinking about the January window," he said.
"The concern just now is making us a whole team and a better team.
"Where we end up que sera, sera, but we have to find a formula that makes us more of a goal threat. At the moment I can't put my finger on it.
"The most important thing in football is to score goals. Once we improve that area, we'll be fine.
"It hasn't been a great three weeks for the players, for me or for the fans but we're judged as players and managers when you walk out of the door. People will be unhappy now and I understand that."
Meanwhile, Strachan has explained his reasoning for taking the captain's armband off David Wheater before their draw with Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
"David is a young player who needs to concentrate on developing his football," he said.
Strachan gave the captain's role to Gary O'Neil and he said: "Gary has a lot of football under his belt and he knows the game.
"I also like the idea of having a captain in midfield where he is in a better position to direct things around the pitch."
One player who Strachan will not be able to call on until next year is Matthew Bates - who is flying to American to continue with his rehabilitation from knee ligament surgery.
"I'm 11 weeks into the rehab now and I'm off to the States next week," he said.
"It's time to step things up and I think I will get the benefits of the three weeks.
"I know it's going to be a long road but I am almost a third of the way through it already. When I get the next third out of the way I'll be able to see the end of the road."
Penang
You do of course have a point but my feeling is that for 90 minutes we, as supporters of the team. could do just that
re; the support for Saturday. Wouldn't it be fantastic if the eleven guys who take the field against St Mirren decide to support us. Can you imagine it....11 pumped up players, dismissing contract issues, poor form, slatings from their manager etc. They decide that as a man they form the huddle and actually decide to pull together and put on a spirited, concerted, team effort to put on a show or at least a decent performance for us guys on the terraces....
Awe Naw...from your post @ 1240
"Meanwhile, Strachan has explained his reasoning for taking the captain's armband off David Wheater before their draw with Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
"David is a young player who needs to concentrate on developing his football," he said.

So Gordon prefers a midfield captain, does he? Let the young centre back develop his game, free of the armband? Yet he picked the two centre backs when he was here. Maybe that's why Gary Caldwell got put in midfield in some games.
"Gordon Strachan tries not to make the same mistake again" would be an appropriate headline.
I understand the point about TM citicising the players in public but i dont think he mentions individuals. On the other hand did we not tear our hair out when GS used to come out with statements after the game which were diametrically opposite to the real performance.
Players should be professional enough to take ctiticism and get on with it - we are no dealing with a bunch of schoolkids

yes, but would it actually be of benefit to the club? If we do as you suggest, will the board construe that as support for Mowbray, & sit on their hands, keep him, & spend little in jan?
I suspect they will, & come out with the "we are in this for the long haul" type of comments.
I thought from the day that he was mentioned as a possible manager that Tony would prove to be an unmitigated disaster. Nothing that has happened since his appointment has, unfortunately, suggested i was wrong.
I believe we need to force a change of tack from the club, & that only by showing we will not accept the current situation will the board do something about it.
As i can't not support the players on the field, my protest will be to not go to the games. I took that decision after the Hamburg game, & won't be back until Mowbray has gone, & some decent players have been brought in.
Judging by the attendances at parkhead, there are others who are doing as i am.
The board should realise that if they let this go on, that they will lose a heck of a lot of paying supporters.

Posted right at the end of the last thread... So posting again...
Afternoon all,
Haven't been on for a while because quite frankly it depresses me on here. Unlike the early days it feels like there are a lot of imposters with all the negativity on here.
Just read through a few of the posts earlier and there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel (in amongst all the drivel).
What's the facination with BTM head anyway?
Anyway, I think we would have scored a few on Sunday if MAF had been sharper or if Big Sam had played from the start. I will give MAF time, he just looks like a man lacking any confidence so hopefully that will change sharpish.
Positives for me were McGeady and Crosas. Apart from a couple of missed tackles Crosas didn't put a foot wrong. I just feel that we need a ZZ or Broonie just infront of him and NGuemo to give us more of an attacking threat. I like wee McGinn as well though, his pace is frightening.
I'm really not sure how we can accomodate all these players at once? Any ideas on our best formation?
bamboo,
yer right, I'm just off the phone, cancelled the lot, but my wee brother is no giving me my season ticket back cause we agreed he could have it.
I wonder if I can cancel my cancellation
I recall when we beat Dunfermilne 8-1 a few years ago, Craig Burley was on the tv panel that day and completely decried scottish football due to the result, and gave us no credit whatsoever.
I wonder if he feels the same way about results like this in the EPL?
In fact, around the time of that dunfermilne game, im sure Arsenal won by quite a substantial margin, and it was hailed as a masterclass!
This is only one of the reasons I wont be carol singing on Craig Burley's doorstep this year!

MAF = white Elephant, possibly a scorer of spectacular goals, never a spectacular scorer of goals, major error in signing
Sammi = pretty boy who works hard but has a very poor finish
Skippy = overweight midget, legend in his own lunchtime, best attribute will be the money we get for him in January
Broonie = reserve striker and all round headless chicken, at £7M I'd be paying for a limo to take him south myself
We need some strikers, if we dont buy them in Jan, we will not win the league
Its that simple

Continuing on the theme from the last thread concerning YNWA, it reminded me about the same debate on here almost 2 years ago. I posted that an article I had read on YNWA said that in the 50s in was quite common to hear "show tunes" being sung in football grounds in the UK as they were the popular songs of the times. YNWA because of movie carousel was one of the more popular songs you would hear in the mid 50s in football grounds and Celtic Park was no exception (as was OT after the Munich Disaster)but it didn't really belong to one team.
One poster immediately replied to me I can't see Celtic hard men singing "show tunes" and before I could shoot off a response another poster who was quicker of the draw than me posted "Have you never sang It's a Grand Old Team?"
Which brings me back to my formative years at Celtic Park in the Sixties, I use to love how new songs were made up constantly using the tunes of pop songs of sixties, Beatles, Manfred Mann etc but my all time favourite that was sung in the sixties but wasn't a pop song and that was "The Holy Ground" I wish we would bring that one back that would rouse our team into action.
Fine girl you are! CSC

its not the fans, that caused the problem, they have turned up through the downsizing for the last six years. The debt was effectively cleared 2 years ago.
its not the meeja. If anything they should be a spur.
its the quality of the team that we have now. Alright TM signed 3 of them, but the other 20 are perhaps the porest quality squad since fergus came.
and PL and co would do well to remember that we threw the last lot out. Since FM came we have generally been on an upwards trend (albeit from a lowly position) that stopped the day after seville, we can all understand that debt needs to be repaid, it was repaid 2 years ago

timjim - Hopefully scraping any kind of win over the mighty St Mirren at Parkhead on saturday shows you how much the club has deteriorated under the current PLC. We had to suffer the humiliation of being knocked out of the Scottish cup by them earlier in the year because of the boards negligence and things haven't improved,in fact they've got worse.
Paul: An interesting point you raise and it links in very much with the persent relationship between the team and the fans. Do we give them our unconditional support no matter how things are going in the hope that it encourages them or do we vent our frustration with the danger that it might put them off their game even more?
Players are live performers just like singers or bands. If the singers gave half hearted performances, hit the wrong notes, forgot the words, they would be booed off stage and people would be demanding their money back. They would find it difficult to shift tickets for their next gig. People are going to matches now with the mindset that they are likely to be angry at what they see.
Of course this would not happen to top class entertainers which is what the players are supposed to be. The best way to "connect" with the fans is to give them the standard of performance they are entitled to THEN they will get all the backing they need.

dont no so much about Celtic bars but Havana has a lovely Irish bar/ restaurant where Cubans sing Irish songs.... not the hardcore ones you understand just the odd one or two. Its in O'Reilly and has a small sign on its outside wall pertaining to the similarities of Cuba and Ireland.
I know its not a Celtic pub but it is green and white. : )
There is a bar however called Bilbao in Central Havana that is decked out in colours from teams the world over and it may show some games as it is popular with footy fans.

I genuinely believe the the PLC board think they are doing a great job through hard economic times,I dont, the money available means they have imposed a standard of player on the club I thought we had seen the back of. How they deal with the massive downturn in attendances and sales is another. I fully expect turnover to be down to around 60m or less this season, a loss reported and expect more of the same. The rabbit pulled out the hat another share issue from the faithful to prop up the balance sheet.

Re: YNWA
As a 9-year old, I was lucky enough to get to the “Leeds game at Hampden” (1970) and I’m pretty sure YNWA was sung that night.
Someone earlier said they can hear it being given laldy at the 4-0 cup final in 1969, and there must also be footage of the Leeds game …
And what a scary experience that was: with my dad and older brother, I stood about half way up the terracing in the old (and massive) Celtic End (not too far from a brave knot of Leeds fans).
My abiding memories of the night were of the sheer amazement at the size of the crowd: my brother and I were hooked on to a barrier above a walkway. With his feet seeming only to make occasional contact with the ground, we could see our dad teetering amongst the fans at the other side of the path, where the mass of supporters swayed 10 yards this way, then 20 yards that way, then back again, in wave after wave of surges as the game ebbed and flowed.
Great plumes of smoke were also a feature of night games, of course, and from time-to-time huge puffs could be seen billowing out from under the cover of the Rangers end.
The acoustics were strange, too: when Leeds scored, it seemed that you could have heard a pin drop. I distinctly remember seeing the Leeds fans near us jumping up and down and waving scarves, but couldn’t seem to hear any sound.
I remember, too, that our car was parked on the red ash playing fields at Langside Road and I wanted us to get back home pronto, in order to see the highlights on Sportsnight. On a school night, too.
What one would give to have those days back again …
Wizard of Oz,
Yeah Gordon Strachan seems to be saying anything these days.
Why did he give it to our youngest defender ?

The best thing the Wigan players can do for their fans is try their damndest for the rest of the season and prove that result was a fluke. Paying money does not cancel the "debt" in this case. Supporters want commitment, to see players care, to give of their best - they don't want compensation for emotional trauma (very 21st Century) - we're footballs fans fgs, what did we expect??
PS My claims letter to Dr Reid for the Hapoel deeat is in the post - I've never got over that one.
Folly
I never heard YNWA sung by the Celtic support between I965 -1967.
It was certainly sung by Liverpool fans at this time . They latched on to it directly after the Gerry & the Pacemakers hit.
' Players are live performers just like singers or bands. If the singers gave half hearted performances, hit the wrong notes, forgot the words'
...if that had happened in the ole Burns Howff that would have been progress.
Even a wrong note would have been a note, but sadly that was usually beyond the fat-fingered strummers and the musically incontinent drummers that 'performed' with such dreary, soul sapping regularity.
To say nothing of the vocalists; like a cat's claws down a blackboard with the cat still attached.
Many times I wrote to the Management demanding a refund but their hearts were even stonier than their ears.
YNWA
Was at both legs of the cup winners cup semi with Liverpool in 1966. At anfield then YNWA was palyed before the game and adopted by the Celtic end (behind the goal at parkhead) after that. Jock Stein then instructed it to be played before each match
I was 12 then and very much into the singing thing.

I agree with your financial forecasts and lay the blame firmly and squarely at the feet of our board
The appointment of WGS was a sign of where our boards ambitions lay (he was brought into do the same job big eck was doing at ipox)
but hey we had no money so maybe the board had a point
The appointment of TM is a case of more of the same- unfortunately
The strategy has run too long and has backfired and will cause a drop in revenue this season of around 10 million quid. (its hard to see how we can rebuild with a 10 million defecit yet couldnt rebuild when we had no debt for the past two or three years)
that would require a turnaround of damascus proportions from the board
their silence on the matter does not suggest they have a plan B
One of the points posted on numerous occasions is this is still Strachans team.Well lets take a look at Sundays Team
Zaluska (Never played under him although he arranged the transfer)
Fox (Signed by TM)
Caldwell(Strachans right hand man)
Loovens (A Strachan regular)
Hinkel (Played most games)
Robson (Played but not as a right winger)
N,gumo ( TM man)
Crosas ( hardly got a game under Strachan)
McGeady (dropped By Strachan now and again why because they did not get on)
Fortune( TM man)
McDonald (Strachan man)
This team consists of TM,s four new players, one player who hardly got a game under Strachan namely Crosas one of the best player on the park on Sunday. There was five of last years regulars Hinkel was man of the match Mcgeady had a good first half.McDonald didnt do much The two CBs, well what can I say that has not been said.Nearly forgot Barry Robson tried hard enought in the wrong position. So I don,t think you can call it Strachans team,I will admit the most problems stem from the CBs and one of the forwards who are Strachans leftovers.
By the way I apolgise in advance for any spelling mistakes in the players names
Hail Hail

Were you one of the ones calling for WGS's head?
A change of manager would be suicide at this stage of the season and IMO would achieve fecck all.
BTM needs time to move on a lot of the dross and build a team of his own playing the right way. If fans can't understand that this will take time then we have no hope.
Personally I think BTM will do a fantastic job in the long-term.
listening to a phone in after the wigan game on sunday, it was amazing how the comments about martinez were exactly the same as whats being said about mowbray.
maybe every good manager has to go through this sort of thing early on. wenger got sacked from his first job in france after getting relegated.
I think there are good arguments for and against the conditional / unconditional support of the players. Personally, I have never booed a Celtic team or player no matter how bad the fare being served up. I can understand that some may see they are entitled to vent their frustrations and as it's a free country who am I to argue even if I don't agree?
With that said, can anyone realistically expect the fans to provide 90 mins of rip-roaring support when faced with some of the dross of late. It feels like cheering when your favourite pub is burning down.
As for the public criticism of the players (en-masse, not individually) I support Mowbray on this one. If Mowbray is giving it straight behind closed doors then why not give it straight in public. Who would he be trying to kid otherwise? These guys ply their trade in public and we can all see how good or bad it is. Anyone in the public eye can expect a public critique of their performance. For Mowbray not to tell it like it is would be a nonsense.
I'd love a wee token from the players. Like a win.
Regarding Gary Caldwell, who is expected to leave on a Bosman very shortly. Although not the greatest player to grace the hoops, he's definitely worth keeping.
I'd offer him the £19k per week he apparently craves. As money is obviously his motivation (as I seriously doubt its a football related decision to go to the lower half of the EPL at best), then his wage could be made up of a "small" basic of £9k, and a further £10k for achieving a defensive clean sheet.
If money is indeed his motivator, it may well help shore up the defence. And he'd be making sure others pulled their weight.

I would agree. Gordon was and is a big fan of Aiden, I just think he wanted him to reach the potential we all can see he has. I would also suggest that of all our players, I reckon Aiden might be the one who wee Gordon goes for in the January transfer window.
You heard it here first.

I have to say, I think Donati started off excellent but then put in some truelly awful displays. IMO he was given plenty of chances by WGS but just didn't produce the goods.
Give GC philvisreturns left over tokens fae Strathy Park.
Dobbo,
Plenty mate!!
Madrid 1 and Rafa Marquez are two. Don't think we are that ambitious though at the moment.
Greendog
I maybe should not mention this but I know Gary Caldwell and I can assure you £19K is way of the mark.
I dont agree with the real radio claim that TM has lost the dressing room because he criticised the team in public
the fans have been criticising this team for about 12 months
this squad didnt become bad overnight. this squad threw away the league last season against a bankrupt huns.
this centre forwards in this squad last season scored about 35 goals between them.
the team has required strengthening for quite some time now and unfortunately when the board have put together some money, we have spent it badly
scott (dirty luke) brown
mark (costa) fortune
JVOH
These three alone represent 12 million quid of mince.
I often decry the board for lack of ambition but also acknowledge that virtually every single one of our bigger buys has been a failure during the same period, with probably only naka, artur and maybe skippy being excused
This might be heresy but i do think that the heid beside a bobo type player would do.
But only for around 12/15k a week
I did hear however he has already agreed to join fulham
My fear is we are left with mick!
Hail Hail
Vinubhoy
That was one I could not understand why did TM sell Donati could it be it was our board
timjim
Are you suggesting the media have innacuratley portrayed Gary Caldwell's wage demands? Perhaps to drive a wedge between him and the support?
I don't doubt it for a minute. My point is that whatever he's looking for, there are ways of keeping everyone happy by making pay up of other substantial incentives i.e. clean sheets.
May not have him leaping like a salmon, but if we're struggling to recruit, we're only going to make matters worse by losing what we have.
vinnibhoy
Sorry about the u instead of the i
if gary caldwell is good enough to play for our first team we should pay him the going wage
if gary caldwell is not good enough to play for the first team we should not pay him a penny
personally I believe that he is not good enough wether he cost 1 grand a week or 19 grand a week.
(incidentally didnt we pay steven pressley 17 grand a week during a period of cost cutting)
I wish people would stop saying this team is mince.
Mince is very uselfull in a variety of dishes and to compare it to this team is very unfair on mince.
Greendog
The only problem is that we'd still be wasting £9k a week on a big big big diddy!!!
Greendog
Don,t put any money on him staying if not January it will be a freeby in July
I wouldn't have said he ever dropped him because he didn't like him, last year was solely down Aiden breaching club discipline.
Not arguing about them not getting on though....
If someone can confirm that there are no CL games next week, then perhaps that is the reason the Europa games are played on Wednesday, no clashes between different competitions.
Wednesday is the traditional midweek night for football, as it allows teams to play their league matches on Saturday's, television schedules notwithstanding.
timjim
I think it was purely down to Donati himself.
I think he had had enough and wanted back to Italy.
BTM would have kept him otherwise.
Why do we still talk about footballers wages "per week" anyway?
Who still gets paid weekly?
If Caldwell is given £19K a week, that's £988K a year.
The average wage in Scotland is £28K a year.
About a quarter of the Scottish workforce scrapes by on £13K or less a year. (By the way, no wonder so many people have credit card debt, or permanently live within their overdraft, and predatory High Street firms that offer household goods on the never-never, charging ridiculously exorbitant interest rates, never have any shortage of willing customer-victims - it's pretty much impossible to save money on £13K a year if you also have to pay rent and eat.)
But Gary no doubt thinks he's hard done by. Poor Heid. (thumbsdown)
I wouldn't have said he ever dropped him because he didn't like him, last year was solely down Aiden breaching club discipline.
Not arguing about them not getting on though....
philvisreturns
Extremely good point.
Lets start paying them per annum. Someone like Caldwell would deserve about 35k IMO
Our central defenders should refund their entire salaries ...
Anyone heard the rumour the top tier might be shut thursday?
Think its urine but now heard it from 3 different people

Caldwell loves himself. Sadly we all know he's nearly as bad as Scheidt!
hi all
i cannot believe that people on here still have faith in Mowbray .I was not convinced on him but the Aberdeen and Moscow games made me think otherwise .
but since then things have got worse .He is clearly not carrying the dressing room .People say he has got to have time Sorry time to go Tony its not working
Vinbhoy
At least he,s now giving Crosas a chance to prove himselve.I wish he would do the same with someone like thomson, give him a shot in defence ,he can,t do any worse than what we,re getting at the moment
if gary caldwell adopted the wigan refund policy he would be in trouble
he would need to repay us for his champions league hat trick

Great memories of that Leeds game.....mine are similar but we were in the massive North Terrace. God know how many were at the game as I know neither my dad or me paid to get in, such was the pressure and rammy at the turnstiles !
The mighty Leeds with red socks, the silence at the Bremner goal (vividly recall the movement of that knot of leeds fans though), Big Yogi clashing with Sprake, the goalie injured for ages between our 2 goals, and the advert for Esso World Cup coins......
The final before the final......and we had a tough run just to get there....Basel, Benfica, Fiorentina, Leeds...
After that for the next 4 years we started to get it easier in European draws and always lost to the 1st big team we played.

I will be happy with a fluky win on Saturday. I will be happy with a fluky win next weekend.
BUT ON WEDNESDAY.
I want a performance of sweet, one touch, pinging of ball from hoop to hoop, on the ground, in the air....driven crosses ....floated teasers.....tigerish tackles....soaring headers and drives that without the net would reduce most of the Jock Stein and Lisbon Lions ends to rubble.
I want a huddle that bursts at the seams with hearts the size of an elephants, courage the like of an astronaut and ambitions fueled by the power of lightening.
I want sweat and class from every pore in equal measure, I want shots and goals, oohs and ahhs, scarves in the air, hearts pumping blood and adrenaline and roars that haven't been heard since Judy poked a stick in Clarence's squinty eye.
We owe Hapoel, the team owes us, the board owe the manager and it is the manager who ultimately carries the can.

Council telly highlights Wednesday night.
Have to say (and following up on a topic form lunchtime) that I really don't get the need some fans have to criticize our own players mid-match.
It's not like the players deliberately mis-place passes. I'll applaud a missed pass if I can see that the intention is a good one. They way some people react you'd believe that they expect a 100% completion rate.
It really annoys when a player tries to attempt something with a bit of vision and is roundly boo-ed if he doesn't succeed. It's probably what prevents some of them from trying something new to get passed the massed ranks in front of him.
It certainly doesn't need to be done in order to inform the board that the quality isn't high enough. They are more than aware of fans opinions these days.
On this day.
What famous piece of work was published on this day in 1859?
The night of the Leeds game in 1970, I left myself late in getting to the ground.
I would normally get the train to Hampden, but I decided to go by car.
The trafic was diverted down Cathcart Rd., instead of Aikenhead Rd. and I eventually parked in front of someone's driveway in Queen Mary's Dr., I think, around 15 minutes before KO.
My mate and I sprinted up the lane behind Cathkin Park and arrived at the turnstiles outside the North Stand enclosure.
There were only about TWENTY people queueing at that time, so we just sauntered in and took our places on the centre line, half way up the enclosure: exactly where we always stood at Hampden.
As soon as we landed, the teams came out.
The whole experience was magic and I feel sorry for all those on here who weren't around to experience it.
No, I don't, because you would probably have started booing when Bremner scored. :>)

Are you being serious? You're calling a guy who cheated on his wife "a nice honest likeable laddie"?
If he cared about his performances, he maybe put a bit more effort in, eg, maybe make 100% sure of every pass, maybe not his long high balls to a fat wee midget who can't jump, maybe practicing defensive headers, maybe practice sliding in to cut out crosses etc etc etc

The polis opened one of the big gates and a helluva lot of people got in free gratis.
When Yogi equalised, the crowd's sway took me towards the front where I my shoe came off.
When Bobby got the winner, the same sway took me to where my shoe was....squelch....p*sh and stuff.
Still my wee mate Tony was taken to the game by his dad and placed at the frontb of the Celtic end.
After the game, his dad went wae his mates to a wee shebeen nearby, forgetting about 9 year old Tony who waited there foran hour or so till the groundstaff and polis pointed out the road back to the Garngad.
I leave you with one comment courtesy of a match report
'Bremner later recalled that after he had scored the massive crowd fell silent. He confessed to being disconcerted at the funeral atmosphere his goal had momentarily created. It was, however, the one moment during the match where his team-mates could hear him urging them on. He said, "The crowd then began chanting: ‘Celtic … Celtic’. It was the type of noise that made many an Englishman freeze in internationals."

Why this was of particular interest to me was twofold....one we have a desperate need for another Henrik, and two, the last time my chum was so positive about a young player it was David Villa....he and i went to see Villa play in Terrassa for Sporting Gijon....I sent a note to Celtic about Villa who was clearly a special talent....naturally there wasn't a response or even an acknowledgement....my chum told a friend who was a coach at Barca, who scouted him, liked him , but politics took over and the deal never happened....next transfer window he signed for Zaragossa for less than we paid for Zurawski.......the rest is history ....£50 million is what he would cost now
anyway the name of the guy given to me today is Javier Hernandez, who plays for Chivas de Guadalajara in Mexico....he is 21 and just won his first full cap.....hopefully someone at Lennoxtown reads on here...i would hate to be reading about him signing for Chelsea for €100 million in 5 years, and it not being us who sold him...

By the power of Greyskull that is a lot of money but I admit to being in desperate need of increasing my body strength. My ten year old child often turns the taps off in the bathroom very tightly and I have to go several days without washing.
I feel bad constantly having to ask the lady from next door to come over and loosen them for me, what with her arthritis and limited wheelchair access to my apartment. To be honest, I originally joined your gym with full intentions of attending every few days but after waiting in vain for someone to offer me steroids, I began to suspect this was not going to happen and the realisation t hat I may have to exercise instead was, quite frankly, horrifying.
My aversion to work, along with the fact one of your employees, Justin, was rather rude, telling me to 'lift this', ''push that' dulled my initial enthusiasm of becoming muscular and I stopped attending.

Yes, I have noticed that there are many gyms in my area. I assume the low qualification requirements of fitness trainers means that there is an oversupply of these buffed but essentially otherwise purposeless professionals.
I knew a guy in high school who couldn't talk very well and collected sticks, he used to call the teacher 'mum' and during recess we would give him money to dance. Then sell him sticks to get our money back.
He went on to become a fitness instructor so I view gyms as kind of like those factories that provide a community service by employing people with down syndrome to lick stamps and pack bo xes. Except with more Spandex obviously.

Dear Jeff
I was, at first, quite surprised at your response; one minute you are inviting me to renew my membership and asking me for money, the next insulting me. After doing a little research however, I have learnt that mood swings are an expected side effect of steroid abuse.
As another side effect is a reduction in the size of your p#$%, this gives you understandable cause to be an angry person. I have also learnt that Spandex contains carcinogenic properties so this does not bode well for yourself and your shiny friends.
If I woke up one morning and my p#$% was a quarter of the size I would probably take my ang er out on those around me as well.
There are probably support groups or websites that could help you manage your problem more effectively and picture based books available on the subject for people with limited reading skills. When I am angry I like to Listen to music by Linkin Park. The added angst and desire to cut myself works similarly to the way firefighters fight forest fires by burning off sections, effectively canceling each other out and I find myself at peace.
I understand that you guys usually listen to Pet Shop Boys or Frankie Goes to Hollywood so this may be worth a try.

Meanwhile those in positions of influence continue to be busy. Stalls are being set out before Saturday. The blame game is in full swing. Take your choice - manager, board, players or any permutation of the above. The stakes are high. If a Rangers win at Aberdeen is followed by us failing to take all three points later the same day then the chances of uproar are not odds against.
Here, of course, the emphasis is very firmly on players. Players on borrowed time. Players' deficiencies. Players paying back money after a terrible performance.
Have we gone back to Burnley ? Not for Owenny Coyle this time, but to be advised by Super Ally, the master ?

Re- League Cup Final against Thistle in '71. I was working that Saturday and couldn't get back in time for the game. On my way home in the late afternoon I heard someone on the Subway say, 'It's four nothing at half time.' At that moment the train arrived at my destination. The doors opened and I jumped out. All the way up the road I wore a big grin. Only when I arrived home did I hear the absolutely incredible news.
Hi Paul,

Por cierto,I take it you have already left for the game.
I heard Kenny Dalglish last week on the radio commenting on a guy who had phoned in to talk about young players and how he would like to contact clubs when he seen a talent.
King Kenny said that he should always contact the club for two reasons.
The club would look at the player to see if he was right and if he was the club would then mark him as a spotter of talent and treat his future reccomendations as a good shout.
Its probably about who gets the info at the club.

What odds on a 1-4 result again tonight? Or maybe 2-4 if Ayrshire's finest gets a very rare Euro start in a radical 4-4-2 formation?!

fellow tims ,i have struggled to clear the thought in my head "if we only bought three or four top players last january ,where would the manky mob be just now"?.With all the recent financial problems in the world and we go and gift them a £12 million pound bail out by conceeding the league to one of the worst rankers team ive clapped eyes on,
You may think im talking old news here, but we are now right back to where we stood at this time last season..looking at the january transfer window with the hope of three/four gems being unearthed. If we had to listen to the managers with a bit of knowledge about the game we would know january is not the best time to buy!and can we honestly say that we trust Tony Mowbray with the funds (whatever they may be) to buy what is needed.
im sorry to say this guys but i dread the thought of a game coming up now.im fed up with performance we are EXPECTED TO watch and EXPECTED TO pay for.WE ARE BEING TAKEN FOR GRANTED.

from last night on the last thread.
I was not trying to deflect anything and I was not trying to say we only lost 2:1 when Wigan lost 9:1
My point is not very subtle. It is:-
1) A lot of the abuse directed at managers is reflex, unthinking and fairly uninformed. That was the relevance of mentioning the abuse being given to Martinez and Sutton and the abuse that has been dished out to currently successful managers like Coyle and Pulis. Davie Moyes was added as an example of someone who is great one season and rock bottom the next. I think all of that football comparison is more relevant than the price of any species of fish.
2) Tony Mowbray may not be a successful manager of Celtic. I happen to agree that this run of results is putting critical pressure on his grip on the job. We are half a dozen matches beyond where I felt he needed to show signs of turning things round.
However, he is no muppet nor is he a disgrace or naive or a village idiot. He is a failing manager; no better and no worse. It sounds as though you are frightened of nuance and context. If I don't put it in black and white and state that Tony is the worst manager since the dawn of time, some people might think I'm standing up for him and saying he's successful. I'm not saying that and I don't think anyone could be persuaded by me if I ever tried.
3) I am promoting civility and context. Tony Mowbray has not tried to harm me or my team. He is just proving to be poor at gelling these players into an effective team. If he cannot change that situation soon, he will lose his job. Whilst, in that event, I would feel sad for him, I would accept it is the right thing for our club to do.
4) I hope against hope that Tony Mowbray gets to prove me and all his detractors wrong in turning Celtic around. I have my doubts but my hopes are stronger than my doubts. At least till Saturday.
I'll try the goals galore tonight as well. See if I can improve on Sat's performance.

Worth a read on Europes big guns
Liverpool are not alone in facing the prospect of an early European exitBarcelona and Liverpool may be knocked out as a levelling down in Europe means the group stage is no longer a
Liverpool train under lights in Budapest ahead of tonight's Champions League match with Debrecen.
Liverpool must be fearful but they do not walk alone. The backing of the fans is never in doubt, but Rafael Benítez's side has more unexpected companions this week. Other major clubs are also at risk in the Champions League group phase. It is only in the very stable environment of the English scene that the difficulties faced by Liverpool seem an offence against the natural order.
Chelsea and Manchester United, despite the departure from Old Trafford of Cristiano Ronaldo, have squads that are formidable as well as settled. An Arsenal team still under development does not come into that category, but a kindly draw presented Arsène Wenger with just Standard Liège, Olympiakos and AZ Alkmaar. Few others have been placed on a fast-track to the last 16.
Liverpool, facing Debrecen in Budapest tonight, depend on Fiorentina failing to beat Lyon at home for their survival. There is plenty of trepidation around now that declarations of Spanish ascendancy have started to look premature. The Champions League holders, Barcelona, may even be knocked out this evening. Such an outcome would require them to lose to Internazionale in Camp Nou while Rubin Kazan defeated Dynamo Kyiv.
That ought to be more of a hypothetical terror for Pep Guardiola's team than an imminent danger, but there is a tone of fatigue in a group that has already achieved so much. The resources seem a little thin whenever Lionel Messi's involvement is in doubt, as it is now because of a thigh injury.
Nonetheless, Barcelona are far from being swept away by the tidal wave of cash unleashed at the Bernabéu. Real are having trouble converting all the new talent into a convincing, reliable line-up. That incoherence was exploited at the Bernabéu last month by a Milan team whose veterans lack nothing in experience, even if their bodies are depleted. They did not look short of vim during a 3-2 win when their goals were scored in the last half-hour.
A process of convergence seems to be taking place as clubs from several countries fight on virtually equal terms. The environment in Spain will be less alluring if the government goes ahead with abolishing a special tax rate of 24% for foreign footballers and forces them to pay 43% in the higher band.
Whatever the factors, the dominant countries are being challenged if not overthrown. A levelling down may be under way. Roberto Mancini was sacked by Inter for failing on the European scene despite taking the Serie A title each year. His successor, José Mourinho, was trapped in the same pattern, going out to Manchester United in the last 16 of the Champions League before prevailing on the domestic scene.
Hardly anyone is utterly above the fray. If there are any regrets about that they concern the lack of contenders to seize the opportunities. Bayern Munich might not rake in the gate receipts of United or Real Madrid, but the commercial deals still ensure they are well-funded. A fee of around £20m for Franck Ribéry was found in 2007, even if the club may now sell him for more than twice as much. The turmoil is inevitable, with Louis van Gaal's side seventh in the Bundesliga.
The more pressing difficulty is to be found in the Champions League, where Bayern have a paltry four points and occupy third place behind Bordeaux and Juventus. France is to the fore. Bordeaux, like Lyon, have already clinched a place in the knockout stages. Marseille will probably not go through, but, a point adrift, they are close enough to give Milan and Real feelings of claustrophobia.
A feeling of peril is not exclusive to Liverpool, even if it is unsettling to know others will have the final word on their fate today. At Anfield, there is a banner hailing the £20m midfielder Alberto Aquilani, although, because of injury and illness, he has spent seven minutes on the pitch there so far.
At one corner of the ground, the Liverpool fans already have a banner acclaiming Il Principino, as Aquilani is nicknamed, and terming him a "hero". That may be premature and sentimental, but those supporters have been prescient if they felt that some feats of individual brilliance would be essential in this campaign.
The group stage, to the relief of neutrals, is not quite the usual formality. No one supposed that Rubin Kazan, for instance, could stand above Barcelona by dint of a better head-to-head record. Interest in the Champions League is much enhanced when the elite is no longer safe.
Thats the 2nd time in a week I have heard of someone mention Javier Hernandez who plays in Mexico. I think he is the top goalscorer in Mexico with 11 or 12 goals in 16 games. He is supposed to be a quality player although I havent seen any footage of him.
Good to see Ki-Sung -Yong voted Young Asian Player of the Year. Here's hoping he's everything they say he is and more!
Where do people see him playing? My first guess would be as that creative central midfielder we're looking for. However, could it be that he would open up the possibilty for a 4-3-3? Barca's formation always relied upon two L & R CM's hovering around a dogged ballwinner. With Crosas, N'Guemo and Robson already in the side (and Scott Brown when he comes back from injury reborn???) we've got all the ingredients for a good central three, while the Maloneys, Mcgeadys Mizunos and McCourts of the squad could challenge for the front three places.
OK, OK, a LOT of imponderables there. For starters, half of the players I've just mentioned could be gone by February, but the premise still remains: are we going to switch to this more modern formation?
Kojo
Just getting back to you regards Master McGinns Pedigree!!
Yes I have watched him from a early age and his progression from a
reserve player at his home town team to turning semi-pro with
Derry City and then going Professional with Celtic!!
His progress in the last two years has been well...ASTONISHING!!
Since his move to full time trainning first with Derry and then
January when he signed for the hoops! He has made rapid prgress
both as a footballer and as a Man!...(One of the nicer guys at
Celtic Park) We will all see this in the coming months believe me!!
His confidence since becoming a fixfure in the Norn IRELAND team has galvanised his raw skill and pace and has made him a cetain starter for the Wee Six Counties!!
It was the Lazio left back who had to be re-placed after 70 minutes of torture from the Master McGinn when he played aginst Slovenia 10 days ago!!
I do hope as you say, We Support the players who keep their game tidy and keep improving with each game!!...for them we will........ keep the faith!

Honduras ace in Celtic trial
Celtic, 12:56, November 24, 2009
Celtic are hoping to tie up a deal to sign Honduran international Osman Chavez in January, according to the player's representative.
The highly-rated defender was a target of Spurs in the summer but remained at home club Platense with a view to securing a transfer to the UK in the new year.
He has been offered to several Premier League sides, including Blackburn, but now Celtic have taken him on trial and the Hoops are hoping to win the race for his signature and a deal could be struck, according to his representative in Scotland Barry McIntosh.
"Osman is a very, very good player who has shown with Honduras he is capable of playing in Europe," McIntosh told Sky.
"Celtic already like what they have seen and we would think they will be keen on doing a deal.
"We are very hopeful of getting something done with Osman for January."

Celtic's korean bhoy wins top award
KI SUNG-YONG, the South Korean midfielder who is set to join Celtic in January, has just been voted Young Player of the Year in the Asian Football Confederation Awards.
The player, widely regarded as one of the top football prospects in Asia, will sign for the Hoops in January, subject to a work permit, and this award is in recognition of his undoubted talents.
The 20-year-old midfielder currently plays for FC Seoul and helped his country qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.

CelticBob :- While you are allowed to laugh I doubt if you will :-)
I have to admit playing three at the back surprised me, at one time we played that formation often but in my opinion we had the players then to carry it off, though to be fair we do have the best defence in Scotland just now so it may work.
Hopefully (from my point of view) the midfield will protect the backs and with the extra man will be able to get forward and supply balls into the box.
I'm not trying to sound over confident but I do feel Rangers will take the points tonight.
With the weather conditions tonight I don't expect a good game but that may suit us.
I feel it will be 2 - 1 to Rangers tonight.

A football hooligan was shown mercy by a sheriff after a court was told he was only berating other supporters of his own team.
Dundee fan Mark Wallace, 22, escaped a football banning order after Sheriff Lindsay Foulis heard he had missed seeing his team winning their first trophy in several years.
Sheriff Foulis - also a Dundee FC supporter - had himself been present at the Alba Challenge Cup Final at McDiarmid Park in Perth on Sunday when Wallace was arrested.
The court heard he berated fellow Dundee fans for not singing loudly enough in support of their team as they fought back from being 2-0 down against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
He had already been warned about his behaviour and when his team scored a second goal to equalise, Wallace was heard to shout: "Come on you p***** - sing!"
He was seen rushing towards another supporter to berate him and the police stepped in to arrest Wallace - removing him from the ground before his team scored the winner and collected the trophy.
The sheriff said: "If you are a supporter of Dundee Football Club then you should know that you could go through the emotional wringer when you support that club."
After being told Wallace was a lifelong supporter, Sheriff Foulis added: "He will have had a lot of disappointments, a few ups and downs.
"If your remarks had been directed at opposing fans I would have had no hesitation in making a banning order, but in the circumstances I suspect those around you were slightly more tolerant towards your behaviour and therefore the potential for disorder was a little less."
Painter and decorator Wallace, of Bennan Gardens, Broughty Ferry, admitted breaching the peace by shouting and swearing and struggling with police officers on 22 November.
Solicitor John McLaughlin said: "He is a long time Dundee supporter. During Sunday's match he went through the gamut of emotions from A to Z.
"He did not think that the crowd were perhaps giving the team the support they deserved and he tried to exhort them. He acted in a stupid way and is very embarrassed. He missed the rest of the game and was unable to join in with the really important bit."
Sheriff Foulis fined Wallace £600 and marked the conviction as taking place in a sports ground. He warned Wallace he would probably face a banning order if the offence was repeated in future.
Rangers will be hard to beat tonight.
I think that it will be a very tight game.

Right from day one, it's been John Barnes Mark II, except where is his Stilian Petrov signing. I said as early as about day 5 in his reign he wasn't cut out for the job and so far so very bad.
He blundered by saying Fletcher and McCarthy weren't good enough, is the guy a mind-reader (who knows they may come back in 5 years time and tell big-shot BTM to stick his offer up his jacksay. While at the same time putting unnecessary pressure on MAF to perform by telling the world he is the finished article despite having a 1 in 4 record) because he most definitely is not a manager of a big club.
And that was just the start, he's actually got worse since then.
Still, we can always make the UEFA Cup Final this year, pfft whoever said that needs a good kicking or gift Celtic the money lost due to the lack of Champions League revenue.

I know you may not want to be fair to Tony Mowbray as it would interfere with your pre-judged viewpoint but, what he actually said about McCarthy was that James was not ready to strengthen his first 11 at this point in his development. He never predicted anything about James in the future.
And on Fletcher, my recollection was that he was going for a price too rich for Celtic's pocket. Again, Tony made no prediction on how much of a success Fletcher would be. A 10 goal season for Burnley in the EPL will be considered a success by Owen Coyle and Burnley fans. A 10 goal season in the SPL would be considered a poor return for money by Celtic board, management and fans.

Why say even that? What's the point if he's not signing them? I mean what's his view on Kaka? My point is that if he's not in the Celtic team then it doesn't matter what BTM's view is.He can have his views on Kaka and Fletcher and the like, but not in his role as Celtic manager.
Well I remember when MON handled the press, it was beautiful and BTM has no excuses as he was manager of Hibs while MON was managing us, he should have learned through MON how to handle the Scottish media and he clearly didn't.
Not to say that MON didn't make mistakes either. In World Cup 2002 or Euro 2004 while working for the BBC, O'Neill said that Ibrahimovic was a diddy and he'd never have him in the team, lo and behold Ibrahimovic becomes one of the best players in the world and there's one club who Ibrahimovic will not be signing for in future. i.e. the one managed by MON whatever club that will be in a few years time.
Hope a rangers centre half has to go off, would be interesting to see if they would bring on Bougherra.
The only interesting thing about that game.
Eustace
McCarthy has played 16 minutes in the EPL this season as a sub brought on when Wigan were 5:0 down to Man Utd; He also managed one start in a home League Cup game v Blackpool where Wigan lost 1:4 and James was subbed after 64 minutes.
Other SPL dross transferred recently, such as Steven Fletcher and Charlie Adam (I know! who'd have thunk it?) have outshone James as Scots in England.
I believe James, as an ex- St. Margaret Mary's bhoy, will come good provided he gets games to develop but Tony might have been right in judging that he would have been of little use to Celtic in season 2009/10. We might get him back cheap if Wigan are relegated.
Found quite an interesting article putting forward the case for putting the SPL resrves in SFL. Thought there was some valid points made. Any thoughts?
Put old firm reserves in the SFL.
Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Hearts, and Hibs should all have reserve sides in the SFL. In Spain the big clubs all have reserve sides in the Spanish second division to give their players early experience of competitive football.
Jock Stein suggested in the seventies that Celtic reserves should have a team in the second division so that the Scottish youth players could get some experience of first team football matches. In that day it was Scottish older players blocking the talented youths. So it should make even more sense in this day and age as there are even more players blocking the progress of talented youths at the big clubs.
At present Hearts, and Aberdeen are starting to buy in more foregin players so once again even more big clubs will block talented Scottish youth players.
This is done in Spain and it doesn't make the Spannish league a joke.
I can't see how this is an insult for SFL clubs. Considering the first teams of Athletico Madrid, Celta Vigo and Real Villareal have been in the Spanish second division in recent years and they are all bigger than any SFL club and in fact bigger than Aberdeen, Hearts, and Hibs. So how can it be an insult to SFL clubs to play reserve sides. Whenever big clubs send reserve sides in the cup or friendlies against SFL sides the SFL teams get big crowds. So don't pretend playing a reserve side is an insult. Anyway Celtic and Rangers have plus records against every SFL club so this would allow a the chance for a club in the SFL to have a plus record against the old firm.
The reserve teams would be limited to under 24 players. Also reserve teams would be banned from promotion and the top non reserve sides in the SFL would still be promoted. And don't tell me that club can't be promoted if it doesn't finnish top. Every year in England due to the play offs English clubs in sixth get promoted while the side in third doesn't. And Swindon Town once got promoted to the premiership when Sunderland were banned from promotion.
And don't tell me how can players play in two different trophies in the same year. Already players can play in the SPL, league cup, SFA cup, reserve league, reserve league cup all in the same year. Players can even play for three different clubs in the league in the same year.
How else can we gurantee Scottish youth players get first team matches. Expecting the old firm to fill their clubs with Scottish players is sci fi in this day and age. Even English premiership clubs are filled with foreign players. Even Aberdeen, and Hearts are starting to do the same again. Buying in eastern European players.
We can't expect clubs to loan out entire youth teams so lets just put the entire youth team in the competitive league.
Anyway loaning out doesn't always work. Surely it makes sense to have extra poor clubs that create more opportunites.
We need more clubs not less clubs, more pro opportunites. I am fed up with the way big club finance bosses keep pretenting we need less clubs well try saying that to Scottish rugby union that the answer is to have less clubs and less players. We need more clubs at all levels. And giving more money to the big clubs just menas buying in more firegin imports. We need the big clubs to have more teams so they give more opportunites.
If a player does not get match expeirience then how are they supposed to develop. They will not learn what they need to work, on they will not learn composure for the big matches.
The reserve league is not useful for developing players. Even Celtic struggle to get above crowds of 100. How can that develop players for international or competive football. And the standard is lower. Just look at Inverness Calley Thistle in the SPL, or teams that get relagated to the SFL. This is not English premiership. The fact is the Scottish premier reserve sides apart from occasionaly the senior old firm reserve sides, are not as talented as top SFL clubs.
And even the old firm youth teams will stuggle in the SFL first division.
If it makes sense to loan out players to the SFL then surely it makes ense to stick the entitre youth team there. And why did Jock Stein (one european cup, two european cup finals, two word cups, 10 league titles) think Celtic reserves should be put in the second division. That is reason is enough for me to do this idea. And the problem if the old firm doing to well can be stopped with restrictions.
The big problem with Scittish football is lack for first team opportuinites for youth players. This will create a risk free system where Scottish youth players will get regular first team football.
I think home matches would get big crowds but even if they don't the reality is away games will get big crowds so will be useful experience for youth players.
How else can we gurantee, and I mean gurantee not hope that Scottish youth players get early experience of competive football. The big clubs can easily afford this. By leaving the premier reserve league.
I can't see how this is offensive to SFL clubs.
This can be done by expanding the SFL first divsion to 18 teams and bringing in 3 non league clubs. Also wouldn't the SFL clubs rather have big clubs, in the league but make sure it is not clubs that can take their promotion place. So we can increase standards in the SFL but not create a rival for promotion to the premier from other SFL clubs. It will also make opur league more continental.
This is how to get Scotland back to being ranked with Eire, Sweden and Denmark as dark horses for championships.
Another idea would be to create a fourth and fifth division. Where more sides could have reserve sides, up to perhaps 20 sides from Celtic to Ross County. Then stick 20 non league and junior sides in the league. So we could have two leagues of twenty, with relegation and promotion but a ban on promotion for reserve sides to the third division. Or the two new divisions could be north and south.
This could also be done for Englsih football with Chelsea, etc: having reserve sides in the championship or league one.
And Cardiff City could have a side in the Welsh league.

of course Celtic wouldn't take a punt on Mccarthy cos he's not the finished article ,just like they cooled on Fletcher for the same reason. Aye, we've got plenty of finished articles at parkhead......they're finished alright.

if you want my opinion i think our midfield is gash. Crosas drifts in and out. Nguemo huffs and puffs. We are we weak through the middle.

Whisper is that the next installment of Bougherra's transfer fee is looming (after X games) and that's why he has not featured so often - they're using him sparingly until they get over the January hurdle i.e. someone has to go to cover the salary of those who remain.
pggtips2
"Why did Mowbray say that?"
I can only guess that tony took the fans at face value. Many fans stated that they were sick and tired of not being told anything specific about transfer targets and why they got away. I think Tony tried to keep the fans informed at first. I hope he has learned that what the fans say they want is not always a true reflection on how they feel when they get it.
We wanted more exciting football and Aiden to be unchained from his wing confinement. We said we would be prepared to suffer more defeats if we got more entertainment. Well, I was a Gordon Strachan backer for over 3 years and I can tell you that, even with my feelings towards the last manager, Tony Mowbray HAS given us a more entertaining style and he has freed Aiden from his more restricted role.
However, when we said we were prepared to suffer a few defeats, I fear we were lying to ourselves.
I'm off to watch Edward's mob v Stuttgart. I'll catch your reply later.

Mogga said he felt that he needed a centreforward who could lead the line and score goals. He said he felt that Fletcher could not do that at present.I agreed.
Fletcher has scored two goals in the EPL.He won't score ten.
This makes his purchase of Fortune all the more bewildering,as he does not hold up the ball and bring others into play particularly well,he doesn't lead the line ,he plays wide and comes into the box from angles .He is rarely in the traditional Centre Forward position(,just like Samaras )and he will score less goals in the SPL than Fletcher would have.
Infact he will score the fewest of all our strikers.(Killen has been excommunicated)
Neither players were what we needed,or indeed ,still need.
A major faux pas.

McCarthy would have added more to celtic than mcourt, mcginn, koki and flood. All players we are lumbered with. Perhaps mcginn will come good but the others are fodder for the rest of the spl or the english first division. Sorry to offend paddy mccourt but he is a 10 minute luxury and will never make it at paradise.
We didn't go for mccarthy because we had no cash avaiable. If we did who did we purchase instead of him?
I feel sorry for tony he has been well and truly shafted by lawell.
Fletcher is a player better than sammy or Fortune.

Suffering a few defeats in the SPL usually results in 2nd place at best. We turnover almost more than all the teams in the SPL put together including the Huns, draws should be considered an unnecessary luxury for BTM nevermind losses in the SPL.

On the bougherra omission walter seemed to be alluding to the fact that he was left out for non footballing reasons.
Quite funny actually, chic seemed to be trying to stop him coming out and saying it.
At one point he suggested to walter it was because young danny Wilson was keeping him out with his excellent form to which walter replied with a resounding NO!

Er, no, because Stuttgart aren't in the bottom half of the SPL.
Also laughed at the suggestion that Lee McCulloch (1) didn't intend his earlier tackle with malice and (2) led with his arm into Lehman's head but didn't intend to hurt him. Lee McCulloch's never done anything on a football pitch without malice, and his elbows are a lethal weapon.

I heard a bit of that, though without Chick. Smith was getting probed on the question of Bougherra, and eventually lost patience and told (not 'asked') the reporters to move on. Mark Benstead of Real Radio then made the point 'but it's not really a problem as you have Danny'. 'Eh' said Smith. Benstead then continued 'you have Danny. Young Danny Wilson has been magnificent'.
I am paraphrasing of course, but not only do they have a manager with no second name, they now have a centre-back with no surname. Await the words 'Bobby' and 'Moore' or 'Franz' and 'Beckenbauer'.

Perfectly understandable that Waldo should take such a stance. If the huns get their bums skelped yet again, as is looking likely, he doesn't want any comeback as to why he chose an unproven 17 year old over an international. 1-0 to Unirea is a great result for:
1. Keeping Stuttgart motivated to skelp the huns and not to take the foot off the gas
2. Keeping Sevilla motivated to skelp the huns and not to take the foot off the gas in the last game.
Perfect.
Excuse the spelling, iPhones and shakey trains aren't a great combo.
saint stivs fp - yer just bitter because McCann's a Portonian turn-coat....wee bassa. Naw you!! :-)
TTTT
Unfortunately, I don't think it is a foregone conclusion that Stuttgart will win this game.
It will come down to strength and fitness.
Will the huns run out of steam?
Will they finish the game with eleven men?
Who wants to win it most?
Are UEFA listening?
Radio Scotland almost at pleading levels now..."Rangers can get at them....they can".
I'm sure I just heard Craig Paterson say that he hopes the referee doesn't spoil it by sending someone off. Clown!
TTTT
and yir point is ? my gren ock friend.

i would have thought that a Grand Master should have been shown more respect :¬))
seriously driving home tonight i had Radio scotland on and it was "Walter " this and that ,,
rotten media feckers
Davie Provan is a nugget.
If elbows lasts the game ill be impressed, your right about the crowd shots, not a pretty thing to see just after tea time.
As it's half time, Trivia...repeated from 8:04 PM
Name the player who has scored for 3 different teams against Celtic in the Champions League.
Answer at 9pm if no-one comes good
I will feel better if Stuttgart get a quick second goal. The hun were starting to come into the game at the end of the half, you could sense a flukey goal coming.
The other reason that i would like to see them lose, is that they are bang on course to set a new low points record for a British team. Dont they already hold that record of 3 points(twice). 95-96.

I think it should be possible to deliver to Poland. It may cost more in postage though. I note that even though the admin is based in USA, the printing appears to be done in London for UK orders.
Thank you for allowing me a plug with a clear conscience!

Is it Gary Caldwell?

Mr Krakow
You typed Slovakia... I read Poland.

The spellings are so similar (cough)
But Krakow is in Poland. I'll quit now...
St Stivs I dont know if I sent you the 1988 quiz. I'll send it tomorrow. Really good quiz.
The picture is great. I was telling Gordon I was in Surrey working/staying at the time and was actually standing on top of the kitchen table with the radio held above me as it was the only way I could get a reception to hear updates on the game.
Gordon said when we socred that day the ref restarted the game whilst the players were still celebrating.
Lynott67
Bang on and if they fail to win tonight they will equal it and I'll be on the phone to Snidey keevins after his rant on the eve of the Villareal game.
PF ayr - throffing at the mouth everytime the huns get in the Stuggart half lol

How come Bougherra is not playing??????
Cotton wool job.. What a joke, the press would slate us for that.

Anyone else watching on Sky - has the sound broken up totally on that channel? All my other Sky channels seem fine, which is good because I'm going to go and watch Andy Murray rather than looking at Elbows McCulloch trying to break people in half.
If the rumours are true...
MacGregor & Bougherra to Geordie land
Boyd, Davis to Brum
Miller & Papac to Boro
RATM
Really?
Whatever could make you say a thing like that?
Did your mother never tell you if you cant say something nice say nothing at all?

John Collins Andy Payton (I thought It was Paul McGugan) I blame the bad reception. Ill send you Vmhans e-mail address tomorrow. Copy me on the pics. I cant believe anyone kept a camera in the shammy without it being nicked.
OAR,
Yes but it's fixed now

An honest tim - I've been saying that for weeks .People think its because of a clause in his contract. The excuses they are coming out with is really becoming a joke . But you know what the Scottish press are like ,they dont want to upset the esablishment team so go along with it . Before he was told to stay away after the world cup qualifications smith was saying he would be to tired to play. Huns on the ropes ! 0-2 yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
yes oh yes
twa , ye ken.
Huns now 2-0 down.......

KrakowBhoy - correct if they lose tonight and lose in seville , they will be record breakers with 2 points and another star on their top will be required.

oh GOAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!
2-0 and they are out
We want 3

The Germans score a killer second, but all Radio Scotland want to talk about is a "brilliant" bit of play just before the goal from Rangers.

To think come January, Cacau is on a Bosman.

Moonbeams wet dream

Back in the (late) 60's I took my girlfriend (now wife) to a European tie - her first football game. We were in the Jungle, directly opposite the tunnel just before kick-off.
Back then there was no warm up on the park so only half the floodlights were on. Minutes before the teams came out, the remaining floodlights were switched on creating an amazing blaze of green. At that point she said loudly, "What a beautiful shade of green, I think I'll make a dress that colour". Needless to say, my mates slaughtered me all night.
Let's say she hasn't been to may games since.
mac1888 - i think it is a disgrace that the press have just ignored this.. We would be slated..
My concern is that we wont have a Jan clear out and they will sell at least 6 players... We may ony even scrape the league in that case..
People mocked me for saying i'd take 2nd place a month ago... If they werent in the soft and smelly then i'd say we may even struggle with 2nd place.. The Arabs will leapfrog us if they win that game in hand...
oneantonrogan
Its a great sound coming out of ipox now, normal service is resumed. Ha Ha
Its because of the germans we have poppy day but i forgive them
O.G.rafferty
they have always been revolting. No change there!

Will anyone in the media ask Smith why he picked a 17 year old centre half ahead of last seasons player of the year?
Bradford Bhoy it was 87 I still think the pass the Maestro played for DFM to cross to Allan McInally that day is still the best pass ive ever saw.

The only reason I have the radio on is to hear David Begg's pain.
Soooooo Sweeeeeeeeettt...:¬).
Was going to cinema at Parkhead Forge tonight but statement on website says its closed due to unforseen circumstances any Bhoys or Ghirls in vicinity know why?
This is better than listening to Radio Rangers
