Fortune mocks critics

| | Comments (1057)
Marc Fortune mock-writing to spell out to reporters, and perhaps some bloggers, that he had answered recent criticisms was a very welcome sight.  The striker represents a huge portion of Celtic's investment in the team this season, and with goals being so scarce, legitimate questions were being asked of him.

Putting the ball in the net is the only way to answer critics and he did this expertly in Perth.

Marc had only scored in three games before yesterday, the first in August against St Johnstone, before being injured next time out and subsequently missing two months football.  With his rhythm thoroughly broke he got back on the score sheet at Fir Park in December before hitting a double in his next game away to Rapid Vienna, but his following two appearances, both from the bench, did little to keep momentum going.  He has now made four consecutive starts for the first time since his West Brom days.

If strikers thrive on confidence, and I'm sure they do, Marc will be a decent bet to claim his first goal at Celtic Park since August against Hibernian on Wednesday in what will be a big test of Celtic's title credentials.

Just to prove that broadcasting is never easy, the Huddle Online team have put a collection of outtakes from Gregor Kyle together.  I don't think he'll talk to any of them again.

For a lighter look at DEATH read Terry Pratchett.

I was not having a go at you but at the perception of TM you were projecting, more 2D than 3D (and nobody has 3D)if you like.

Big big game on Wednesday and if the team plays as they did in the second half yesterday, another three points should be forthcoming.

Hail Hail

Mort

points ?

too late

Mon the Fortune

HH

Maybe a 1st start for Hooiveld on Wednesday? A very new inexperienced defence against the pace of Stokes & Riorden backed up by Liam Millar.

Never mind, lets just score more than Hibs, that'll do nicely!

Paul,
I don't think we as a support have been very fair to MAF, given the fact that he was out for an extended period. He was my MOTM yesterday.

On another note what ever happened to the Semir Stilic thing, I pulled this from his Wiki page (I know not the most reliable)

His father, Ismet Štilić, is a former footballer. It is believed that Semir Stilic is currently waiting on a work permit to join Scottish club Celtic FC, the transfer taking place will see Semir's current employer Lech Poznan get around 3 million euro.

What to do, what to do?
I suppose I have been addicted to it since as a kid buying the either the Times or the Citizen (pink addition), I liked the Citizen with its big pictures of players which you could cut out and put on your wall. I still have a folder with the cut outs of match reports and photos of games from 1965 Cup Final to the early 1970’s, so many victories.
I stopped buying the Record after the Tugs and Thieves, the Sun after Hillsborough, The Sunday Mail because of one of their so called journalists, can’t recall his name, one of the champions of the wee teams type with distaste of all things Celtic.

As for phone-ins, again addicted since the Jimmy Sanderson on Radio Clyde with his ‘Rangers played like Strangers!’ and ‘Were You at the Game?’ comments.
I have now given up on Radio Clyde it has lost its way, tune into the opening few minutes to hear if they have a ‘real’ story then switch to Radio Scotland, but that is starting to get to me, how could it not with Chic Young and Jim Traynor.
As for Real Radio I thank my lucky stars I am not sad enough to tune in.

As for what we have got today there are to many egos, they see themselves as the news. I suppose what I want is a balance view not sensationalism to sell papers/airspace.

I’ll start of with the sadist Derek Johnstone or should I say Derek “I don’t know” Johnstone, have you noticed how he usually starts by saying “I don’t know, but…”, then going on to give his unknowing opinion, as you listen to him you being to agree with him realising he was right… he really doesn’t know. I remember him being asked by a Rangers fan who was despirate to find out if they were going to make any signings so asked Derek “I don’t know” Johnstone if he knew, the reply was “I don’t know but I know one thing for sure there maybe signings”. Maybe!!!! Cutting edge stuff there.
His obvious partiality was made all to evident when he said he would take Larsson to the airport to make sure he left. This is the man who bemoans the lack of quality players in the SPL – okay to have quality as long as it plays not for Celtic.

Bill Leckie is so obvious and obnoxious best just to walk on passed.

Keith Jackson a watered down Leckie, who even Graeme Spiers says is prone to exaggeration. Best you can say is he is an irrelevance.

Speaking of exaggeration Hugh Kevins. He has been around so long there is too much to go on about. I did agree with one thing he said when he described himself as a Sideshow so that’s how I think of him as `Sideshow Hugh` just like `Sideshow Bob` in the Simpson, just without the endearing characteristics. He sold his soul years ago to the media gods.

Ronnie Cullen, the only one I read.

Jim Traynor, well after his recent shouting “You’re an idiot!” several times at a Your Call (funny they call it Your Call but when people do they get to speak less than Trynor) caller, perhaps he has lost it. I gave up on him when he told us Celtic fans to get a life as the Famine song was only “Gallows Humour”.

Alex Cameron, an oldie but I like this one. One of the best bits on phone-in every being when he was asked why he had shares in Rangers he replied that was only to allow him entry into the Rangers share holders meeting, he was then asked why he didn’t hold shares in other clubs to do likewise, the silence was deafening.

Bob Crampsey, too much missed. He was a passionate supporter of Queen's Park not just one of the journalist who hide behind the ‘Oh I support a wee team’ mantra.
I remember listening to the radio on the way to the St. Johnstone game to stop 10-in-a-row, while the others were getting too excited about how easily Celtic were going to beat St. Johnstone he remained silent until he comment of “Don’t confuse the improbable with the impossible. St. Johnstone could win.” He always gave a considered balanced view.

Graeme Spiers trying to be Bob Crampsey but couldn’t thread his type writer ribbon.

So what to do now that that I find myself more and more irate at what passes as media comment.
Where do you turn to? Well no where really, apart from web sites I trust.
What do we do as supporters, well it isn’t for me to tell anyone what to do, I have a hard enough time dealing with myself. I suppose what I have to do is avoid that which gets my blood boiling (after all these are my heart attack years so I must remain calm) and hope to God that we - Celtic can win and win and win as it just hurts tem so much to see us successful it is what they fear.

Aff the bar again

Can't wait till wednesday, hopefully the support will be deafening and Fortune will continue banging in these belters.

Dinky Diamond

Aff the bar again

Closer to the corner flag methinks ;-)

Paul67 - "Marc Fortune mock-writing to spell out to reporters, and perhaps some bloggers, that he had answered recent criticisms was a very welcome sight."

Paul, I'm delighted our Marc-Antoine found his shooting boots, FYI. I knew he had it in him, but I still hope we sign Rasmussen soon.

PS - I don't like to bring up politics but just walked past a TV and it had old Gordon "Boom and Bust" Brown on there saying football clubs were in too much debt. The election-dodging liar who wrecked our public finances to the extent that we will be spending more of our taxes on interest payments than on education for years to come has the brass neck to lecture football clubs. I had to restrain myself. (thumbsup)

listen in to Radio Scotland tonight, Jim and his journo friends will be slaughtering Tony Mowbray from 7pm, all at the expense of the tax payer.

the quality of journalism you have to suffer?

chick young "don't ask me about financial matters because I don't understand them, but I can tell you the banks are being intransigent" aye cracker chick!

Not trying to put a dampner on Fortun'e goals yesterday but 2 goals in 1 game against SPL bottom six does not make a striker no matter how welcome the performance and the goals. Once Fortun'e consistently performs to or above that level will he be able to mock anyone. I look forward to the time when he can mock all his critics without anyone being able to question his consistency.

MWD

Charlie Grant flying in a training session this morning, Ki & Brown
also look fit.

GSU, I think we’ve been fair enough to MAF. Credit and criticism when due.

The Stilic wiki page is incorrect.

Philvisreturns, agree, we still need Danny Rasmussen.

Paul67 - The big fella took both of his goals well yesterday and hopefully he can add to his tally in midweek. If I’m honest I think he will be a scorer of great goals rather than a great goalscorer. But I’d love to be wrong. Either way, MAF is playing his part for the team and that is what matters most.

Tony Mowbray’s post-match quote “I don't think there's many good judges of a footballer in the media” should be heeded by all our supporters.

Yesterday’s was a massive result for Celtic. We have players returning from injury and the squad continues to be strengthened. If we just keep winning the pressure will be unbearable on our rivals. And no amount of media spin will alter that.

If Fortune's celebration was mocking James Forrest, I reckon he'd still have another few paragraphs to go...

i am up on Wedensday..

Hope to see Ki and Crosas in the middle.

I bet Zalusak gets the nod, the beefy goalie can have a wee rest.

Never mind him smoking, its the white puddin suppers that he must be wolfing down..

philvisreturns

You're right, we should stick "No policies" Cameron in to replace him. I mean the Tories' financial policies did great under Thatcher and Scotland really boomed after all of its industry was stripped away and packaged neatly for the south.

The crash was the fault of the international banking community not the government. Despite how anyone else would like to spin it.

viewfaethewindae

Good to hear, I thought Ki was going to be out for longer.

Paul67/anyone in the know - Thoughts on whether Charlie Grant will feature this season?

RSD

Given the form of Samaras and Fortuné's goals yesterday and price, where does Rasmussen fit into this?

Do we go 4-2-3-1?

Hinkel, AN Other, Hooiveld, Fox

......Nguemo, Ki-SY

Fortuné, McGeady, Samaras

.......Rasmussen

Apart from the unknown and assuming McDonald is away that for me would be our strongest team.

That leaves out quite a few good players, Crosas for one but I cant see how he fits in there.

Id still hope for another goal scorer if McDonald is to leave.

Dubaibhoy

he would need bigger hands

UC

Celticbhoy - I remember him being asked by a Rangers fan who was despirate to find out if they were going to make any signings so asked Derek “I don’t know” Johnstone if he knew, the reply was “I don’t know but I know one thing for sure there maybe signings”.

No chance of BFDJ becoming Scotland's answer to Derek Acorah, eh? :) I actually quite like the big guy, he's honest and doesn't have the same sleekit anti-Celtic agenda that a lot of his media colleagues do. BFDJ wears his heart, and his ignorance, on his sleeve.

The worst one is Real Radio, a station that is infamous for one of its DJ's spreading the Big Jock slur, and Ewen Cameron's cosying up to the likes of Andy Goram while braying slurs at Celtic. A few months ago Rougie was laughing and joking that only Archbishop Keith Patrick O'Brien would be an acceptable choice of manager to the Celtic fans. (thumbsdown)

I have thought for the last few games that MAF was a player we can use to good effect, his control in tight spaces and his ability to hold off defenders while waiting for a team mate is outstanding IMO, if we had a predator playing with him I think these qualities would reap more rewards, remember when TM brought him in he said he's not an out and out goalscorer so it's not his fault if that's what we want him to be.

A picture of Rasmussen arriving at Scotland.
Very pleased to see him here.
http://www.snspix.com/pictures_1924767/1924767.html

He will be fully match fit so may be deployed on the Hiberian game I think.

Spot on

here is hoping big MAF can slot a couple past Hibs on wednesday to keep some momentum going.
BTM has my full support, as he should have everyones, a penalty box striker to work as a foil off of MAF and we are sorted for the second half of the season.

Rasmussen arrives.....http://sport.stv.tv/football/scottish-premier/celtic/152774-rasmussen-arrives-for-celtic-signing-talks/

How does that banjo taste Paul?

Hope your eating the biscuit version. Don't forget HIS goals against Rapid too. I would play him before Samaras.

No offence to anyone whos bet Cameroon but I hope Egypt win tonight to get N,Guemo back asap, with him back the new signings and the others returning from injury we will soon be right on their coat tails.

Thanks for posting that, always great to see a player arrive at the airport.

There can be no excuses for us not signing any more players, I spotted at least two Celtic employees drinking Airport Coffee, we must be loaded.

A major signing is imminent....

EN

MWD, i am at Glasgow airport for a meeting then dumping the scud along by the Whisky distillery.

Where do you all go for a beer? (Does it serve non-alcholoic as i am still dry after 13 months)

ohits - I agree. I was hoping Cameroon would not qualify out of their group. Selfish but I'd rather Celtic players played for Celtic.

MWD

It looks like TM is going to have a bit of a selection headache soon, with the players coming back from injury (and Africa) and the new ra-ra-arrival.

Unless TM switches to a 3-4-3 formation (which could be forced upon him in any case with yet another defender injured yesterday!), it is difficult to see how he can play Fortuné up front ahead of a striker with 12 goals from 15 league games this season and another with 8 goals in his last 10 games.

But in spite of the goals being scored by the strikers, we could still do with one or two players from other areas of the team knocking in a few... just how many did the midfielders and defenders fail to convert yesterday?! If we can get a couple of the midfielders chipping in with a few goals as well, then Celtic could run up a few 7-1 wins to match Rangers' result against Dundee United.

Celticbhoy

Glen Gibbons and Tom English are still worth reading.

He's in Edinburgh Airport! Hibs must have stepped in at the last minute with a bid! ;^)

I like the look of that, especially against the wee teams.
We might need some more midfielders that can track back against the top 6 though.

With all the quality players on the bench as well I think things are shaping up nicely.

From the last thread.

Thanks for clarifying.

In that case, my conclusion is that Tony has clearly really got to a few of the main supporters of the Rangers cause in the Scottish sports media. Their reaction is deeply shocking. Apart from anything else, they have really shown themselves up as intellectual midgets.

The Haiti stuff defies belief. Leckie was obviously miserable that Celtic had won the game yesterday and allowed his disappointment to show in his work. How an editor let that go to print is beyond me.

Steinreignedsupreme, good point, Marc is unlikely to turn into a 30 goals per season player.

Rod Stewarts Drum, no info.

Sttigg, happy to give credit when due. If reading his press provoked some reaction I’m pleased, it was needed.

MWD

I am working in the town where Cameroon are based , was at the Egypt v Benin game last week and I have a fear Cameroon could get a result tonight.

CelticSephiroth - I won't be voting for Cameron, I think you're right, he's more spin than substance, and what little substance there is seems to be more of the same.

The crash was the fault of the international banking community not the government.

It wasn't the commercial banks that deliberately inflated the monetary supply for nearly a decade through record-low interest rates, to create a credit bubble. It wasn't the commercial banks that handed over massive sums of taxpayer money to bail themselves out, and it wasn't the commercial banks who sold off our national gold supply when prices were at a historic low. It wasn't the commercial banks who bloated our public sector payroll with millions of new unproductive jobs to expand its client base at the taxpayers expense with no thought as to how we would afford to pay all their gold-plated pensions in future. "No more boom and bust" Brown is culpable, much as he has tried to weasel out of responsibility. (thumbsup)

shimmies33, we should have a Tory govnt with Vince Cable as chancellor and Galloway as foreign sec.

HAIL HAIL!!!

Just on Clyde sports desk at 1230. We have apparently accepted a bid and he is travelling down to agree personal terms after only 20 appearances for Celtic. I thought he performed admirably in the Rangers game at CP although I know he hasn't set the heather on fire. Still, strange one to me.

Clyde reporting we have accepted offer from Burnley for Danny Fox.....!!??

By soldierbhoy on January 25, 2010 12:34 PM

thats wild if true

we must have a new left back lined up

Aw Danny stay!! I have your autograph....

Who is in then, the young lad from the jam farts would do...

Maybe Caddis until the Summer with Darren as back up??

'With his rhythm thoroughly broke he got back on the score sheet at Fir Park in December before hitting a double in his next game away to Rapid Vienna,...................Marc will be a decent bet to claim his first goal at Celtic Park since August against Hibernian on Wednesday in what will be a big test of Celtic's title credentials.'

When MAF hit that purple patch in December, Peter Grant stated that Celtic had been given Marc shooting practice – I thought

WHY

Didn’t anybody think of that before????? mmmmmmmmmmmmMMMMMMMMMMM

Many factors coalesce to turn Forwards into strikers – not least (as you say) confidence!

I think Marc adds a lot to the team (look a Rooney for Man U NOT prolific, but an essential part of the team).

YET

When you see MAF in full flow like yesterday (& Vienna) he looks a sublime STRIKER! Wold love to see it continue @ Celtic Park!

It was a great fight back yesterday – I don’t think it’s a coincidence that these (sparse) gutsy displays seem to coincide with the absence of many of our First XI!

PractisemakesperfectIndeedCSC

Apologies for the political post I just have to counter anything I perceive as pro-tory. It's a bit like a fight or flight reflex. ;^)

Someone posted yesterday, i think it may have been SuperSutton, some stats on Aiden in comparison with similar players in the EPL in answer to some posters who feel that Aiden doesn't contribute enough in terms of goals and final ball.

www.transfermarket.co.uk lists goals and assists for most players playing at the moment, from that have a look at aiden's stats against other "wide players"

Aiden has 5 goals and 6 assists in 18 league games.

Aaron Lennon has 3 goals and 9 assists in 18 games.

Shaun Wright-Phillips has 3 goals and 6 assists in 17 games.

Antonio Valencia has 5 goals and 6 assists in 21 games.

All of those players have better players around them and better strikers to get on the end of their assists than Aiden has, yet his stats are comparable. These are all £15m plus players who are highly rated in England.

Aiden's stats will only get better. He has already contributed more than he did all of last season, and is in line to equal his contribution in 2008 when he was Player of the Year.

Any idea if we are bringing in a replacement if the info on Fox is accurate?

Surely not going with Naylor for the rest of the season, we'd then be back at square one as far as left sided full back goes although I don't think Danny is much better than Nayl's imho.

If fox out

is Kilbane in?

Stv ran that yesterday and they've been spot on recently. almost as accurate as CQN

Your ignorance on all this CFC / football is well known on here, please don't extend it into politics where your spouting of the received wisdom put forward by a reactionary non thinking media would set you up well for a career in SPL football hackdom if the subjects were BTM and Celtic.

I don't agree with you regarding football and the best way forward for the club and I certainly don't agree with your politics and the hackneyed renta-gob platitudes you use in support.

celticbhoy

other lurkers and posters

here is th article from scotzine that we couldnt access.....

While listening to the Radio Clyde programme on Saturday afternoon, it came as a surprise to hear Hugh Keevins be lost for words. Fellow hack Mark Guidi launched an astonishing attack on his fellow hack Keevins just before coverage of Saturday afternoon’s games.

Hugh Keevins had stated previously that the SPL title was over and that Rangers should be crowned champions right away. However Guidi decided to pull up his fellow pundit over comments he made last season.

“You would never have said that if it was Rangers who were nine points behind Celtic,” said Guidi. “In fact, last year when others on this programme said the league was over when Celtic went ten points ahead, you [Keevins] said that it was a ridiculous claim and that the league could not possibly be over until it was mathematically impossible for Rangers to make up the deficit.”

Guidi was not finished and he had one attack left in reserve stating, “You’re just far too quick to jump on Celtic when you get a chance.”

Keevins, ignored the final comment from Guidi responded with, “There were different people in charge at Celtic at that time. The people in charge this time around do not fill me with confidence that they can make up the points.”

Keevins was then left muttering to himself and then went silent, when the other pundits on the show mentioned that Keevins had only referred to the mathematical possibility rather than who was in charge of the club. Certainly it was an embarassing moment for Keevins and Guidi will probably not be receiving a Christmas card in the post this year.

It is well known that Keevins is a Celtic fan. In fact he has written many a book looking at the history of Celtic FC. And that is why Rangers fans detest him with a passion. Yet he still tries to dodge the questions of where his allegiances lie time and time again.

While Celtic fans believe that Keevins has a grudge to settle - after he was kicked out of a Pre-Match Press conference held at the Celtic Supporters Association HQ by then manager Kenny Dalglish and CSA vice-president Finbar O’Branigan on 5th May 2000.

That was just the beginning of Keevins’ gripes with Celtic. Since then he was sacked from The Scotsman for publishing an article which stated that Artur Jorge was set to be the next Celtic manager - which was found out to be totally fabricated. In fact Keevins has not stopped there - back on the 29th June 2008, he published a statement from Bologna President Alfredo Cazzola which stated that Bologna had ‘formalised an offer to sign Shunsuke Nakamura from Celtic.’

A day later the Bologna president denied ever giving a statement to Keevins or the Daily Record saying, “[Cazzola] wants it known that he has not released the long and detailed statement which appears on the website of a British newspaper talking about interest in Nakamura”.

The club added that Cazzola “has said that the statement was completely made up, and that he is appalled in the face of this scandalous way of doing journalism”.

Likewise Celtic denied any sort of deal with Bologna. A Celtic spokesman said, “We’ve never heard of the representative who has claimed Bologna has made an offer for Shunsuke Nakamura. We have not received any offer from Bologna or from any other club. In any case Naka is delighted to be staying with Celtic and that is what he will be doing.”

Keevins has not only fabricated articles about Celtic, but also Rangers. Back in August 2006, the Rangers Supporters Trust demanded an apology from Keevins and the Record after quotes that were supposed to be from Stephen Smith, the spokesman for the Trust, were fabricated by Keevins.

So now it is not only fans from all sides attacking Keevins for his lies and opinions, but also his fellow pundits. So why hasn’t Keevins been sacked by the Record for fabricating articles, yet The Scotsman held him accountable. Hopefully it shouldn’t be too long before Keevins - who has now been found out - is sent out to pasture.

Scottish Sports Journalism had greats such as Hugh McIlvanney , Bob Crampsey, Arthur Montford and Archie MacPherson. Sadly according to Radio Clyde colleague Peter Martin in an interview we did with him back in September 2009, believes that High Keevins is, “one of the best journalists in Scotland.” Sadly if Keevins is one of the best in Scotland now - then god help us all.

Celticbhoy on January 25, 2010 12:09 PM

Wonderful post and a welcome trip down memory lane.

It may be a bit indulgent of us older gentlemen to hark back to the days when there were still some standards in journalism.

However, those doyens of the media, Sanderson and Crampsie, were exceptions as, even then, there were the odious Taylors, Gallaghers, Waverley, Rex Kingsley and the rest.

Today, we have, perhaps Glenn Gibbons, who was in my year at school, and I'm pushed to find another of his ability. Of course, Hugh Mc.Illvaney was and is, in a class of his own.

I don't include Spiers, as, although he is articulate, when the chips are down, he toes the Rangers party line.

playfusbal...

Kilbane has performed steadily at left back for the Republic on ocassion and if he is fit he has all the experience needed to handle the SPL.

I assume we must be making money out this though. If we paid £1.5m i'd be hoping we'd get more than that given since he signed for Celtic he's now a Scottish international:¬)

honest tim - get yourself into Babbity Bowsers in the Merchant City before the game. There will be lots of excellent CQNers who can't wait to meet you!

C'mon Egypt - we need wee Tommy back to partner Marc Crosas, who should be a first pick on the teamsheet IMHO. It's totally beyond me, why anyone who like's football the "Celtic Way" would leave this young guy out of the team!
Unlike most of the young lads who have attempted to come through the ranks at Celtic, Crosas has been taught and learned all the basic skills required in the modern game. Can use both feet, successfully pass to a team mate and move into space to help retain possession - it's not rocket science!

I've heard that mentioned at a few away games as well, I actually rate him higher than the two we have,

Wallace at hearts is a no no for me. I'm based in Edinburgh and he is a well known urine artist as it were.

Potential to upset the apple cart and provide far more ammo to the press.

Kilbane would be an experienced head in there right enough, his performances for Ireland in recent years make me doubt his ability now but was a good player in his day.

Kevin Zidane as he used to be known among the bhoys in green.

DD

philsvisreturns - what do you think would have happened if Gordon Brown hadn't bailed out the banks? We're not just talking about a couple of businesses going to the wall you know.

I didnt see the game you were at last week, are you planning on going to any other games?

Egypt now 5/2 favourites with Cameroon 5/1, I hope you are right and Cameroon get past Egypt.

If they go out tonight Nguemo would still miss the Hibs game.

Go out in the Semis and he would miss Hibs and Accies.

Get to final and it would be Hibs, Accies and Kilmarnock away but back for the game against Hearts 10 days after the final, plenty of time to rest.

Ideally he would be in our team for all these games, we should be good enough to beat all three without him.

bazzabhoy, (from last article)
wrong, I have no such problem,
my problem is we are begining to resemble the permaraging side, so much so that we are now actively seeking reasons to be angry in places we know we will find it, I mean howmwny people here expected lackie to change his line today ?
I know they are out to goad us in everyway possible and the louder we squeal the easier it is for them to label us. Our views are not served in their world so why even give them the time of day, everytime they cross the line they knw exactly what to expect and ignore us, I remember a "beadrattling" comment in the hearald, what happened there, Oh aye thats right the guy (freelance jurno)was removed from the paper, where is he now ? a full time employee I think.
So IMO us getting all excited about the uasual guff spouted will make little difference to their agenda.

Lets talk about how good was yesterday and how we will manage to get all the good player into that team, who we're signing, I saw on here last night how young yesterdays team was, I see good things ahead, lets enjoy it.

hail hail

Estadio Nacional (12:24PM), I think you got that upside down, given the shortage of fit defenders and the wealth of attacking options available to TM...

Try:

Zaluska

Hooiveld

Hinkel NGuemo O'Dea

Ki-SY Crosas

Samaras Fortuné Rasmussen McGeady

That said, I think with your formation it would work with Sammi on the right and Aiden on the left and MAF in the hole behind RaRa, as Sammi already plays more on the right wing than through the centre! But against the bottom 6 SPL teams I'd almost be inclined to go with a back three and stick Broonie in as an extra central midfielder. We have som many very good (by SPL standards) players now that I am glad I don't have to pick the team and keep them all happy!

Just watchin Sky Sports News, NFL.

I now know what we need to the the crowds back. Not a 30 goal a season striker, not a left back and not a no nonsense centre half..... Have you seen the cheer leaders ! OAFT

cardiffbhoy - yes it was me.

I got the stats from soccerbase.com. Liking the transfermarkt site a lot - thanks.

cardiffbhoy

interesting stats....

2 ways to look at those

1 being that Aiden does not have much quality to play along side which could be a consideration and therefore these stats are a credit to him

or alternatively Aiden plays against SPL fodder every week which isarguably a far lower standard than EPL, so you'd suely expect a damn site more from him

stats are great depending on how you interpret them, give me a younger Alan Thompson or a hungry Stilian Petrov over Aiden anyday......Aiden could have learned so much from those guys when it comes to assists.

before I get pegged as a McGeady hater, Aiden is without doubt a gifted lad but is just lacking something up top when it comes to becoming a great player.

purely my opinion....tin hat on at the ready :-)

Absolutely no idea.

Maybe Owen Coyle's granny would know.

Hmm, letting Fox go doesn't seem to make much sense. Surely we need another left back in? And how much was it we paid for him in the summer? Surely we'd want at least 2-3 million.

I have a different interpretation of Marc-Antoine’s goal celebrations yesterday.

He wasn't typing, the way journalists do. He was signing, like he was signing his name.

‘Signer’ in French means to sign, but it also means to score a goal. Cunning French play on words from the big mhan there.

Don't know if he's ever celebrated like that before, but it's a good idea. If I was still playing I think I'd adopt it myself. The Tommy Coyne one-arm celebration was already wearing a bit thin when I scored my final goals in the early 1990s.

Re the Aidan stats - the people to compare him to are much closer to home. I don't have the assists but he's scored 5, Shaun 4, Paddy and Niall got 3. Aidan played every game tae.

weeminger - "philsvisreturns - what do you think would have happened if Gordon Brown hadn't bailed out the banks? "

I think we'd have come out of this recession a lot more quickly, and with our public finances in much better shape, and the banking industry would never again have repeated the mistakes that led up to the crunch. I don't believe the bankers and politicians self-serving propaganda that the sky would fall in if we didn't rush to hand over all our money.

Bailing out the banks was the worst possible move because instead of the above scenario we have prolonged and deepened the recession, trashed the public finances (we will be spending more on interest payments than on education for years and years, am I the only one who finds this outrageous?), burdened the taxpayer with huge liabilities which may yet bankrupt us, while subtly undermining the long term future of the economy via political intervention in the capital markets (you can't have a free market without private capital markets).

Perhaps most dangeously of all, the perverse incentives and expectations created by bail outs mean that the banks have learned nothing - they are already going back to the same risky behaviour and bonus culture that brought them to the brink of bankruptcy. In fact, the government has threatened them that they'd better go back to lending - how's that for a mixed message? They now know the government doesn't have the testicular fortitude to let them fail. We have created zombie banks via state intervention, we would be better off had we just allowed them to collapse and let the market sort out a new financial system from the rubble.

We have delayed the pain but at an enormous cost which will burden our children and grandchildren, causing much more pain over a much longer period than would otherwise have been the case.

We should have told the bankers they weren't getting a penny of taxpayers cash, and faced the immediate consequences then and there. (thumbsup)

Kevin Kilbane is way past his best and has lost any pace he previously had. I sincerely hope he comes nowhere near celtic Park.

Celtic_First:

Agreed, and if we were to go a couple of games accruing maximum points whilst Rangers were to drop even two more… then the arrogant façade would fracture and we would see the true extent of their damed pus and vile.

They have been giving out to Celtic and Tony Mowbray big time for a long time, Tony Mowbray mindlessly and violently retaliates with “I’d rather not talk to the press other than to keep our fans informed” and “there are not many in the press that have a scobie about football” and that is enough to solicit such a pussful eruption from sensitive Bill Leckie who contrary to what some might say, does not have a scobie about football no matter how many petulant years he’s scribbled after it.

Bottom line, they can dish it out but even when countered with innocuous disdain, they are not astute enough to rise above it. (Bullies is the word that is flying round my head) They are not insignificant, and they are insidious of character and intent, and they should be countered as often as is possible. Especially so when their invective is so personal, so insensitive and so un-called for.

Estadio Nacional on January 25, 2010 12:24 PM

I can tell you were Marc Crosas fits in - right beside N'Guemo instead of Ki!

Marc has been one of our best players this season. I don't see why Ki should take his place after only 1 appearance, he has not earned it.

I have noticed that a lot of people have been doing that in recent weeks, it is something I don't quite get.

Enlighten me please?

Celtic_First

MAF did same celebrations after scoring a cracker at the Mothers.

madmitch - "No substance to your reply?"

There was no substance to your original message, it was purely a personal attack designed to get a rise out of me, and you failed. Also, I don't know why you keep bringing up what school I went to, is it relevant? (thumbsup)

We have a left back, o'Dea, thats where he started as a bhoy.

If he plays left back then our back 4 would only have 1 player less than 6ft 4 and that would be Hinkel.

The games against rangers will win or lose us the league. If we take out their chances to score - high balls in the box, then we can let our football players do the talking.

I would be quite upset it DF goes. I think he's a cracking player and a player that will only get better with age.

I'd rather sign Wallace than Mulgrew. he's looked good every time I've watched him. Mulgrew is great at freekicks but his defending is not up to much IMO.

I have just listened to the Traynor clip. While I am not surprised by his comments, I do wonder how on earth the BBC can continue to defend their decision to spend my licence fee employing this man.

Mulgrew can't defend and supposedly got punted by WGS for being a Billy Bigtime. Caddis should be in the team, in either of the full-back roles IMO.

After the Russel Brand/Jonathon Ross thing last year all bbc employees who are 'on air' on radio or TV had to go on further 'compliance' training, two day courses if I remember right. Courses to re-itterate legalities and what could be broadcast in terms of good taste and what would be expected from bbc employees.

They were already very well informed on what was acceptable conduct in broadcasts but after the Brand/Ross thing they stepped it up even further due to public pressure. Bosses stated that they would be very strict on future conduct that gave the bbc even more of a bad name.

This was all direct from someone who went through the courses.

That being the case I would expect Traynors behavior should be due for review...

Thanks for you r reply and kind words. Yes it can be hard to read this site at times but it is addictive.
Totally agree with you over Marc Crosas and his ability, what we have to recall is he is on the right side of 25 and will only get better too.

Falkirkbhoy - O'dea shouldn't be let anywhere near the left back slot. Yesterday he was having a howler there, although he did come on to a decent game in the centre. If O'Dea is to feature regularly then it should be in the middle, he does us and himself no favours at full back.
One thing we do need to work on is our throw ins, we lost the penalty yesterday from our own throw in and gave them their best chance of the second half from an almost indentical situation.

PjDali - indeed the stats can interpreted many ways.

As you say, we play against weaker opposition. But we also play against a 12-man defence in many games (if you count the ref). Aiden is often double and treble marked. Lennon and SWP do not.

Stats are only available for the assists which are converted to goals. Our goals to chance ratio is about 1:10 (1:5 yesterday, woo hoo!). Strikers in the EPL are (supposedly) more deadly. This would improve Lennon and SWP figures whilst making Aidens worse.

My original post also talked about other apsects of the game i.e. the "final ball" (a daft term if ever there was one, it's only the final ball is the next thing is a goal). When watching the EPL the commentators are forever moaning about this aspect for LOTS of players.

I am of the opinion the Aiden is no better or worse in these aspects than the others.

Mulgrew on his way back.

philvisreturns@12.58 - WRONG! Our economy would have been completely screwed. How many companies indoviduals in this country do you think would have been compromised by having all Lloyds/HBOS and RBS accounts frozen and inactive.

While I think the "7 minutes from cash machines failing" was an exaggeration, I have no doubt that we were within a day of it happening.

I have several friends that work in the City of London and be in no doubt that Gordon Brown had absolutely no choice but to do it. We would have been in the financial dark ages if he hadn't and as it is they're predicting that the banks are going to stay in Govt control for several years before they can get out at break even point.

O'Dea is not a left back. He lacks pace big time.

If Fox is sold I would expect a replacement before Wednesday.

This is totally out of the blue and I hadn't even heard we were interested in selling. I can only assume he has requested a transfer unless it's silly money which has been offered.

is fox away? yes, no maybes aye maybes no
if he is then BTM will have someone better in mind to replace him, either buy someone in or promote from within. if he has gone then the replacement will already have been sorted. Caddis could do a job on LHS as can O'Dea.
How many on here have said he is no better then Naylor? i believe the term was Naylor with tattoos that was commonly used, if so, sell and replace.

we have a pretty good squad, once we get the injured back and n'geumo. I just hope Big Tone can get the first 11 right to suit the opposition and doesnt play favourites. Hope the big Dane signs, shot in the arm. yesterday proved we dont need to walk the ball into the net,Just hit. Big MAF.Class

Is anyone in the real world reporting this Fox/Mulgrew stuff or is it just the lunatic asylum on Clyde?

at one point in yesterdays game while the score was 1-1 the stats showed 16 attempts by celtic and 1 attempt by st J (the penalty)
it was similair to the recent games vs the huns and one or twpo others where we failed to convert domination into goals and i feared more of the same

i wonder what the difference was yesterday that made us get the goals that counted, probably the substitution, paddy mccourt giving us a bit of creation

the huns may say it was the sending off that changed the game IMO a touch harsh but then again so was the penalty against us

i dont think we should all get too paranoid and circle the wagons etc. though. It just feeds thee guys.

folks like leckie/traynor etc have always been there and have always wrote a load of keech. They thrive on controversy.
I personally dont have a grudge against folks like BFDJ speaking like a hun because he is one and doesnt hide it, i wish the ex celts would be just as forthright though.

the difference IMO between leckie and DJ would be that one of these guys is supposedly neutral

anyway, yesterday morning they said it was 10 points clear IMO its 4 points clear now and with a few more second half displays like yesterday, we will have that sorted in no time

incidentally we finished yesterday with something like 22 goal attempts - no mean feat.

and fortune mocks his critics? Im one of his critics and delighted that yesterday he proved me wrong- i would be delighted if more did the same and i was wrong there as well

O,dea is too slow, great player. but not a left back. Mulgrew not the answer either.Must be crazy money for Fox,No loss

good afternoon mate

madmitch, you're sure living up to your blog name.

I'm sorry if the choice of school my parents sent me to offends you, I am sure that was not their intention. (thumbsup)

It's quite touching that you have such a tender, naive faith in the bankers. In fact, the taxpayer was already on the hook, via the FSA, to guarantee the first £35,000 of people's savings in the event of a bank failure, so your scenario of people eating leaves and emaciated corpses being found next to cashline machines is unlikely to have come to fruition had we refrained from bailing them out.

Instead of being on the hook for potentially up to £35,000 for each saver, the financial genius that is Gordon Brown has put us on the hook for virtually the entire commercial banking system in this country, brilliant.

BTW, I believe you when you say you're friends with a lot of bankers, and that they're enjoying the taxpayer's money. (thumbsup)

PjDali at 12.50

I'd also take Thompson and Petrov ahead of McGeady, we don't have either. Worth noting that they had Henrik , Hartson and Sutton getting on the end of their assists.

best stats of all are probably paddy's in terms of goals and assists per minutes played.

The Chief 12:59pm

I wouldnt want to drop Crosas, he was one of my top three players yesterday but going on previous we will play the big money signing ahead of others, for reference see Brown, Scott.

From what I saw of Ki last week he has a great range of passing much like Crosas and he can also take good free kicks and corners. They are very similar players from what Ive seen of Ki and it would be a shame if Crosas was dropped for him but its one or the other alongside Nguemo the ball winner, when he comes back.

http://footballsfootball.com/WeknowSFA/danny-fox-burnley/

We know SFA report on Danny Fox.

Radio Clyde say player on his way

It was possibly due to the tattoos and the fact that he looked a bit mental but the Celtic crowd warmed to Danny Fox very quickly last summer. Then again, it was maybe the fact that after Mo Camara and Lee Naylor, anything would have been preferable.

Initial impressions were good but after an injury, Danny Fox has struggled in the Celtic back-line and has been culpable for some of the goals lost by the sieve-like defence. Fox should certainly have stopped a number of crosses from coming into the box.

That said, Tony Mowbray likes his full-backs to push on and support the attacking play and this may have played a part in Fox being caught out of position on occasions. Fox could certainly gets balls into the opposition box but his dead-ball specialism never come to the fore.

Radio Clyde announced that Celtic have accepted a bid from Burnley and the player is travelling down to discuss terms. There were also rumours that Birmingham City enquired about the player last week.

Given the current injury crisis Celtic have, they shouldn’t be looking to off-load Fox, then again, Fox is one of the players that are currently injured so he is unavailable for selection.

If Fox does go, the money received for him may go to strengthening another part of the team but the Celtic fans will despair if they are reliant on Lee Naylor once again.

There was talk of Charlie Mulgrew last week and the player is out of contract this summer. Celtic may use the Fox fund, get Mulgrew in on the cheap and use the remainder of the money to pay for Rasmussen or another potential target.

The Mulgrew suggestion is purely a flier but it does add up when you consider it.

He is a full-back who likes to bomb forward and his defensive play is suspect. You get the impression Mulgrew will fit right in with the current Celtic back-line. Wallace of Hearts could be another suggestion but he would likely cost more than Mulgrew.

No doubt more news will follow on this matter but if Fox departs, what about the fans who got FOX 11 on the back of their kit? And don’t forget the bars and nightclubs of Glasgow, will Fox’s replacement be able to make up for their loss of income?

Unlike the vast majority of clubs, Celtic have been making signings this January but you can see they are funding a large part of it by selling off current players. It is just strange that Fox is allegedly for the off as he is a Mowbray signing?

Perhaps the manager feels he can gain better value for the team by offloading his summer acquisition and shuffling things around?

Will you miss Danny Fox?

weeminger - Sorry, I was attempting to multi-task there and incorrectly attributed some things to madmitch that were written shortly afterwards by you. I'm sure you couldn't possibly be as much of a friend of bankers as he is. :) (thumbsup)

Afternoon Bhoys

If Snyde's report re Danny Fox has any truth in it it's a strange one - unless BTM already has known of this for a while & has been scouring Europe looking for a replacement.

I understand the reluctance to blood too many youngsters into the first team at the same time, e.g. Thompson being the only one on from the start yesterday, however having watched the Reserves all last season & from various reports on their matches against English opposition in the last few months, I'd suggest we long term already have three options available, i.e. Milan Misun, Danny Lafferty & Anton Kurakins.

Al three have had rave reviews from Lenny (amongst others), for their performances (Misun's injury taken into account), & I'd have no problem with either at least being given a space on the bench at Celtic Park (they also fulfill the dreaded Under-21 rule).

The only issue at the moment would be the lack of first team regular's available in other postions, but hopefully with injured players about to return & the newbie's getting their fitness the team will have a much better feel to it within the next 10-14 days.

I've watched most ROI matches during the WC Qualifiers, & if Kevin Kilbane has anything going for him it's most definitely commitment. Anyone who plays consistently (over 100 caps), almost the same number of games as Shay Given for his country, & under at least 4 or 5 different managers must have something to offer....

Interesting KK Fact
"As of 14 November 2009 he is top of the list of all-time appearances for Ireland, having won over 100 caps. His appearance against Montenegro was his 50th consecutive competitive game for his country; only England's Billy Wright has achieved a longer unbroken run in competitive international football."

Hail, hail
LB

Craigellachie10 - Because the BBC has been dumbed-down to compete with the rest of the tabloid media.

That guy from Auld Reekie really rattled Traynor's cage because he knows (Ian) was totally correct in his assessment of the Scottish media.

Traynor also knows Celtic will wipe the floor with his paper again. Anyone who read the article on Scott Brown was able to see the quotes for themselves and also make a judgement on how they related to the hysterical copy written around them – or more to the point, how they didn’t.

Even if the quotes are 100% accurate and SB was asked if TM had said he was for sale they do not confirm this at all. Therefore the tone of the article and the claims made by Jackson are disproportionate and more to the point libellous.

philvisreturns - how long do you think it would have taken to organise getting people's savings to them?

And I'm not talking about that anyway. Who do you think would have handled things like payment processing etc. Even if a solution could have been found you're talking about days if not weeks where no financial transactions could have taken place.

How many days do you think the country can last with no banking facilities?

madmitch @ 12.40

Why the chip on your shoulder?.... did your spelling let you down in the entrance exam?

I hope that Tony is going to base his style on Barca.

Fortuné playing the Zlatan position, Sammi, á la Henry, Aiden, Crosas, Ki and Landry aping Messi, Xavi Iniesta and Toure or whoever is playing in that role.

Two fullbacks who can bomb on and we have a replica Barca unit.

Not the same quality, obviously, but an effective style, as long as it is played with pace and accuracy of passing.

Off for a walk on the beach. Will catch up on any comments later.

kevinlasvegas;

had to re-read your post and yes you did say O'Dea was a great player. Indeed he is as are all those players who cannot get a game for Reading. He's an average player who will play his whole career in the lower reaches of English football once he leaves Celtic. I think he's almost 23 not even remotely young for a footballer yet still he cannot get a regular game in a team that hsa McManus and Loovens. Sent out on loan to gain experience; he had already played about 50 first team games; if Mowbray really though he was the answer he wouldn't have been at Reading in the first place. The only position he's worse in tha centre half is left back because he doeasn't have the mobility or ability to play the overlapping attacking full back role that most teams have.

Lazy Bhoy

Zinedine Kilbane has the same number of caps as Shay Given. Since the Montenegro game KK has played another 2 games giving him 52 consecutive appearences for Ireland.

Very impressive despite his limitations but out of all the left backs linked with us, I'd take him. He is experienced and always gives 100%. He also won't be around for ever and could be a good man to have around to help those younger players you mentioned.

A no brainer for me.

Hail Hail

Mort

CelticSephiroth and WGS = I just now heard from my friend back in Denmark and he tells me that the Celtic are interested in two players after Rasmussen has come.

The first will be Samuel Holmen which I am very happy if it will be. He is a good player for the Brondby and is as well international Swedish player.

The second player was to be Solvi Ottesen of the team SonderjyskE. He is a defender and one that the Celtic where linked with before I think.

Estadio Nacional

Your quite right in saying Ki has the edge on Marc in terms of his delivery from set-pieces.

I hope the big money signings don't walk straight into the team, therefore, I'd happily see Scott Brown benched. I think he would fit into a 3-man central midfield but can't see TM changing from a 4-4-2, which he has often flattered to decieve in my opinion.

I was hoping to go to the game tonight but work has got in the way but I should make saturdays 3rd and 4th play off game, if Cameroon win tonight then N,guemo will be here at least until then , so as my previous post I hope to see an Egypt win.

weeminger - I do not believe that the entire UK banking industry was about to collapse. I think we were sold a pig in a poke through fearmongering and collusion between politicians and bankers. Lloyds, for example, was a profitable business before being forced into a shotgun marriage with HBOS.

For those banks that were about to fail, for the reasons I described earlier, I believe we would have been better off taking the short-term pain. We are now burdened with enormous liabilities and no realistic plan to pay them off. (thumbsup)

If we flog Fox and end up having to play Naylor for the rest of this season at left back I will sink into a deep despair.

A mate has text me to say that TAL is reporting that we are getting £4 million for Danny Fox....surely not, but then.

Having technical problems sorry I couldn't post the link.

How much did we pay for Danny Fox?

Had a quick swatch at the rags in the library (good place for a free read).

Couple of belters-

Ewan Murray (Guardian) "What was striking is just how dominant Celtic were after Gartland departed having received a straight red card for dragging down the rampaging Samaras on the edge of the penalty area".
Was the skin colour not a bit of a giveaway, Ewan?

Herald- MoM Graham Smith- he got 6/10. They also gave Fortune 8/10.

Basics.

I find the Fox rumour hard to follow.

If true, it will either be because of a silly offer (which is no bad thing provided it is re-invested) or because he has failed to settle (which would be a shame but understandable).

I guess we will see.

STANDING UP FOR BTM!!

I think you blame Brown for all the wrong things

It wasn't the commercial banks that deliberately inflated the monetary supply for nearly a decade through record-low interest rates, to create a credit bubble.

It wasn't the government that inflated the money supply with low interest rates either that would be the Bank of England. Besides you seem to be talking about the US Fed not the BoE-- if anything interest rates should have been cut here months before the banking crisis.

It wasn't the commercial banks that handed over massive sums of taxpayer money to bail themselves out

Every government in the EU and the US followed the UK scheme for bank recapitalisation after the US model failed. It would have been 'mental' to let the banks fail. In any case it is clear now we will make a profit from our bank recapitalisation.

It wasn't the commercial banks who sold off our national gold supply when prices were at a historic low.

The net loss that supposedly befell us from Gold sales overlooks the fact that we swapped it for foreign currency reserves. You will note that the value of the dollar and EU has appreciated ~20% in the last year or so. In any case reserves of this kind are an investment over decades-- when the price plummets (as it surely will some time) no-one will mention it again.

It wasn't the commercial banks who bloated our public sector payroll with millions of new unproductive jobs to expand its client base at the taxpayers expense with no thought as to how we would afford to pay all their gold-plated pensions in future.

Frankly Im glad there are more teachers, nurses policeman and doctors-- public services used to be awful decrepit understaffed and Victorian. I guess they are unproductive though they certainly vastly outnumber the legions of useless pen-pushing parking fine coordinators you are probably imagining.

"No more boom and bust" Brown is culpable, much as he has tried to weasel out of responsibility. (thumbsup)

'Boom and bust' --was the term for the uniquely British problem of cyclical overheating and inflation treated with high interest rates. This crisis was quite different it was international and has hit every country.

Brown is culpable for too much reliance on financial services to create wealth. This is the huge mistake you should blame him for. The level of spending and the size of the public sector was similar to France and Germany but we are in a bigger hole because we relied too heavily on GDP and tax from the City-- which has vanished. You might also say regulation was poor-- but it has been everywhere so he shares guilt with every finance minister in the developed world.

You should also give credit for Brown/Darling policy following the crash. I remember the last two recessions well. Whilst we had less of a fall in GDP we had far higher unemployment that went on for years and far higher interest rates and repossessions. The continued Govt spending, VAT cuts, and quantitative easing that were carried out in the teeth of opposition to The Tories, The Telegraph, and The CIty are in part responsible for this.

Zinedane Kilbane...probably the best quote of the day

Fox on the run ? ... doubt it unless we are talking silly money, FFS half his stuff in boxes from his move up here

KK, aka barry robson, and thats why we would sign him

Big Dunc, or what ever he like to call himself spells the end of Skippy ( Yahoo ! ) and possibly Sammi ( Boo !) and lets face it signing a big agressive lump will certainly get davie weir to retire, and IMHO its a smart move given that the hun are likely to have at least one wean in the middle of their defence for the rest of the season who is not going to enjoy repeated assaults by a scandavian muscle man

I still think we need one more striker, but would be happy if we end with the big man alone

The big question remains, Mcgeady to stay or go ? on the basis of the few displays I've seen of Paddy McCourt and young McGinn, there could be life after Aiden, although you always hate to see your better players go

Ming

Woo-hoo. Last week of the window. The moon becomes fuller and the average tic fan becomes madder. Who’s in ? Who’s out ? Net spend nutters versus board apologists with a large smattering of bad temper, angst and t’internet square gos. There’ll be near things, there’ll be sightings, there’ll be Owen Coyles’ auntie and there’ll be grown men with silly pet names that their wives laugh at here on CQN sitting, staring, not eating or sleeping, waiting on every morsel of rumour between now and when the big thing goes slam !!

Let the madness begin....

Danny Fox...tatts and all............has apparently left the building....or maybe he hasn’t ???

Big Wavy

Celtic manager Tony Mowbray has told BBC Sport that there are elements outside the club that are having a destabilising effect on his team.

"At Celtic in particular there seems to be things in the background other than your team or training that try to upset what you are doing," said Mowbray.

"They try to destabilise and because footballers are human beings it can destabilise things at times.

"What needs to stay strong is my relationship with the players."

Following Sunday's 4-1 win at St Johnstone, Mowbray revealed that he has urged his players play no regard to media speculation.

"They need to trust me that we try to improve them every day and whatever they read or they see or they hear they must continue to stick together, and practise the right things," added the Celtic boss.

"I preach good habits every day I like to think and they (the players) have to keep going."

The attention is hugely greater and that can have a destabilising effect

Tony Mowbray
Mowbray explained that while the main aim at Celtic is the same as at all clubs, winning games, there is much more media focus on Parkhead than there ever was when he was in the English Premier League with West Bromwich Albion.

"The attention is hugely greater and that can have a destabilising effect on what you are trying to achieve," he added.

"What you need is a pretty tight dressing room. At the moment there is a frustration, I suppose, that I have to go through a process to get things the way I want them."

With Celtic trailing in the league race, pressure to win each week is even greater for Mowbray's side.

When asked if he thought it was fair that there were no grey areas at Celtic, that it was either win or a disaster, he replied: "It appears so and yet in reality that can't be the case for the dressing room, for the team and the players.

"I think again it's the external mediums that dictate that. It can't be allowed to knock us off our stride or the belief what we want to do.

"We need to be strong about the football club, show solidarity, despite everything trying to destabilise it, keep going."

Celtic are seven points behind league leaders Rangers but Mowbray remains confident his side can bridge the gap.

"We will get there, I believe that," he said.

"I don't mind not spending money. If we have to create money to spend money then so be it.

"Scottish football is financially not in a great state. The club though has managed its funds well over the years and still has to do so.

"If I have to move one or two out, maybe one or two that you don't necessarily want to move out, to create some funds then so be it."

RE:Benny blanco, surely the only reason he wasnt getting a game in front of mick (captain)and wgs didnt fancy him and had his favs. I still think o'Dea is a decent player ,ok, maybe not great, i used to think he was going to be awesome,Like Ross wallace.think wgs ruined his career.

Highly amusing!

philvisreturns - I'm glad that you're not a Tory ( I had feared the worst, although always enjoy your posts ), clearly you're an Anarchist - that's old school! ((thumbsup))

Dane Bhoy

Thanks for that. I was aware of our interest in Ottesen but not of Holmen.

What can you tell us about him?

The revolving door will need oiled by the end of this transfer window if this keeps up. We seem to be building up some momentum on the personnel front and on the back of yesterday's win it's music to my ears. The huns are there for the taking and they know it. Get it right now on the signing front Celtic and get stuck into them

The recent cameo performance of Lee Naylor v Falkirk
especially, underlined that Fox was indeed an improvement.

If we were to sell without a replacement lined up, it would be a
backwards move.

TM is building and buying so I hope it's just rumour.

HH

There is of course a less orthodox replacement available for Danny Fox, if of course there is any truth to the rumour of his departure. TM could decide to switch to a 3-5-2 formation, instead playing three centre backs.

TM likes his full-backs to push forward and join in with attacks, but this often means they are caught out of position when Celtic lose possession, and hence are left exposed at the back when the opposition launches a quick counter-attack. However Celtic already have the likes of McGeady, Maloney, McGinn, McCourt and Mizuno to play the wide attacking roles, so why bother asking the full-backs to push up and attack, at the expense of their defensive duties?

Instead TM, who has a wealth of quality midfielders in his squad, could play three central defenders (say McManus, Hooiveld and O'Dea), allowing him to deploy two out-and-out wingers along with three more solid central midfielders. Certainly Scott Brown and Landry NGuemo are more than capable of lending assistance to the defence when necessary. There is still the dilemma of how to keep four top strikers happy, but fortunately that is TM's problem, not mine.

Possible line-up:

Boruc

McManus Hooiveld O'Dea

McGinn Brown NGuemo Crosas McGeady

Rasmussen Samaras

If TM insists on including Fortuné as a regular pick then he may even have to consider going 3-4-3 with Samaras replacing McGinn wide right and Fortuné playing alongside Rasmussen up top.

I look forward to lots of 5-1, 6-2 and 8-3 scorelines!

Dane Bhoy

Thanks for signing back in. You were spot on with Rasmussen last week. One or two on here like the look of young Solvi very much. The boy sure knows what a proper tackle is.

Cheers,

TBB

philvisreturns@1.35 - I'll give you one tiny, tiny example of what I'm talking about. RBS own the Worldpay e-commerce payment gateway. If they'd have gone down, that would have gone down with them.

Every single business that uses that payment gateway (and there are thousands) would have been unable to take online payment. It can take weeks to get a new payment gateway in place.

Most of those businesses would not have survived.

It's not just about the banks' core business it's also about all the associated work like e-commerce gateways, payment clearances etc etc.

Never mind all their businesses that would have immediately been without cashflow.

Celtic_First, perhaps.

Corrib 04, where better to tackle the bovine beast than Perth?

Wee Green Machine, I am very well, thank you, but no info on your other question.

Well we wanted change and there certainly has been change we wanted the Board to spend an they are spending. We Celtic fans unfortunately cant see Tony Mowbrays whole picture for example Danny Fox there can be many reasons why a player moves on quickly he may not have settled in a new country or his family may be unhappy. One thing for sure TM will know who will play at left back.At the end of this week we are going to look an entirely different squad than the one that entered this window.I still think Celtic will bring in another 3 players and its perfectly reasonable to expect another 1 to be moving on.Hail,Hail

Tony goes on the offensive with the media

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/celtic/8478810.stm

Remember, it's you licence fee. Let BBC Radio SCotland boss Jeff Zysinski know what you think

In light of Bill Leckie's distasteful article in which he interweaved Tony Mowbray's management of Celtic and the horrific humaitarian catastrophe in Haiti, I felt it worthwhile re-iterating a post from last week. There is no coincidence.

--------
Isn't it quite incredible the way that previously upright, sound and respected men suddenly become despicable when they become manager of Celtic?

Tony Mowbray is a man of integrity. Always has been. Renowned for his honesty and openness, north and south of the border. Now we are expected to believe he is a liar. Despite the manner in which he has made his statements, he is still a liar? Oh, and Jim Traynor is to believed as a virtous and honest man?

Martin O'Neill was a highly respected manager and pundit south of the border. And still is. He was vilified by the Scottish press and lies were written about him on more than one occasion. He had to resolve the more obtuse situations with the DR in a Court of Law.

Gordon Strachan perhaps didn't have the same whiter than white image when he came to Celtic, but it somehow got totally soiled by the press when he was here. I recall the Tartan Army singing "One Gordon Strachan" when the national team was looking for a new manager, and eventually plumped for Walter Nosurname. He too was vilified by the Scottish press after joing Celtic, not long after they were touting him for the national job. He wasn't being touted for the national job after being Celtic manager (and winning 3 titles) when there was a vacancy in the offing.

Kenny Dalglish. National hero. Arguably Scotland's greatest ever player. His time at Celtic was far from succesful, but he was slaughtered by the SCottish press and had to resort to public press conferences in an attempt to let supporters see exactly how the Celtic manager was treated at these press gatherings and how things were misrepresented.

Joseph Venglos was, and remains, a highly respected football man in Europe. Hugh Keevins (another DR employee) in particular gave this man a disgraceful time of it. Again, his season at Celtic wasn't the best, but he did bring us one Lubomir Moravcik (much to the derision of the intellectual lightweights of the Scottish press).

Wim Jansen was apparantly the "second worst thing to hit Hiroshema" according to one tabloid. Another Nostradamus moment from the intellectual lightweights that call themselves sports journalists.

Then there was Fergus McCann. Not the manager of the Celtic, but I would argue he was much more important than that. How would you describe the treatment in his time at Celtic? Particularly the DR? Saddam Hussein comparison front page? What was Fergus' record in court? Woon 3 lost none? Or was it four, including Luigi and Farry?

Add to that the Thugs and Thieves disgrace. And the photos of child murderers on the fron page wearing Celtic strips. It's not just the DR (last week's photo of Celtic Park and an implied link to Celtic as part of the allegations of date rape against a Rangers player was in another rag).

And now Tony Mowbray is a liar. Can anyone find anywhere - and I mean anywhere at anytime - another article that in any way discredits Tony Mobray as a man and calls his integrity into question? Before he came to Celtic he was an upstanding man of integrity and respect. Not now. He has not changed. It's just his job that has changed.

Get rid of the snivelling little weasels we have in the CELTIC PARK dressing room who put their mates in the Scottish press and their wee agendas above CELTIC FOOTBALL CLUB.

Get rid now. You are either with us or against us. No middle ground in this one. Celtic are the priority and Tony Mowbray will lead us to the title with new signings in and disruptive snivels out.

-------------

We now have Tony Mowbray and the Haiti disaster being added to litany of shame produced by these people.

Can anyone find any such poisonous article in relation to Waalter Smith or David Murray? Or even Graeme Souness or Dick Advocaat?

Remember the silence at the media conference after the 4-1 humilation by Unirea? Can you imagine such silence had Celtic been on the receiving end of that result? If not, why not?

What's the difference? I think we know.

Malarkey - "It wasn't the government that inflated the money supply with low interest rates either that would be the Bank of England."

I know, the same Bank of England that Gordon Brown handed over interest-rate setting authority to, and the same Bank of England whose low interest rate policy was smiled on by "No more boom and bust" for nearly a decade, even as we saw house prices spiral out of control.

I agree with you on the role of the Fed, but not that interest rates should have been cut.

Every government in the EU and the US followed the UK scheme for bank recapitalisation after the US model failed. It would have been 'mental' to let the banks fail. In any case it is clear now we will make a profit from our bank recapitalisation.

Malarkey, it is no consolation to me if we're part of a queue of lemmings headed over a cliff, rather than being a single jumper.

It is clear now that we will make a profit? Are you mental? The taxpayer won't see a penny of his money back. We have instituted socialism for the rich: profits will be privatised while lossed have already been socialised.

In the long run all paper currencies are worth precisely zero. What was exceptionally galling about the great gold sell of was the way gormless Brown allowed the sale to be trailed in the media in advance, thereby lowering the price. Doh!

Frankly Im glad there are more teachers, nurses policeman and doctors-- public services used to be awful decrepit understaffed and Victorian. I guess they are unproductive though they certainly vastly outnumber the legions of useless pen-pushing parking fine coordinators you are probably imagining.

Spending has spiralled by billions while standards in education have fallen and the NHS is more or less the same as in 1997, except with considerably more middle managers. There has not been a remarkable improvement in public services to match the massive increase in spend.

I'm not sure which Tories you're thinking of, I've seen Cameron as being remarkably compliant with the government in their crazy-go-nuts economic policies imported from Zimbabwe, that guarantee we will be poorer off as a result. You can't spend your way out of debt or print your way to prosperity, as we have been trying. It is a guaranteed path to debauching the currency.

Unemployment will continue to rise and we're still in the phoney war part of the recession. It's going to get a lot grimmer in years to come, in huge part thanks to Brown and Darling. (thumbsdown)

Is Fox the mole?

phils

you are entitled to your beliefs but can you answer me why every other country including u s a followed the recovery plan advocated by brown, can you tell me why the g8 nations awarded brown an award for his vision and leadership during the crisis?

and regardless of your view of history if the northern rock had gone down,as cameron advocated, then not one of there members would have had any recourse to get there money back.it was only after northern rock that brown introduced the 35k rule to make sure there wasnt a stampede of people withdrawing there money which would have caused the whole system to collapse

Brandan or Marek Cech in for left back? Milan Misun?

Never expected Fox to be leaving. Brand new defence right enough.

weeminger - You don't need to convince me it would have been painful. I don't think we disagree on any fundamental facts, I think we disagree on whether it was worth delaying the pain and the extent of additional pain we have set ourselves up for in future, and what the long run ramifications of the bail outs will mean.

Unfortunately it's a done deal now, so we can only watch as things unfold - I hope your more optimistic view turns out to be right.(thumbsup)

bournesouprecipe @ 1:42...

I found the identity of the mystery player in the photograph posted yesterday by pablophanque.

It was Steve Lynch, a full back.

According to the Celtic handbook from 1959 he signed from "Schools" that year. I managed to find out that the school in question was St Mungos.

I believe that someone, perhaps Krakowbhoy, is recording this season's questionable refereeing decisions?

Have a look at the BBC highlights of yesterday's game, 2 minutes 31 seconds in, and you will see a blatant body check on Paul McGowan as he was running to try and make contact with a cross and right in the middle of the penalty area in full view of the referee.

WGS

I would suggest that both are unlikely as Cech wasn't favoured by Tony at WBA and Brandan doesn't seem to be on our radar.

Misun when fit may be a good option.

See Dane Bhoy's post further up the page for some good news.

CelticSephiroth = The player Holmen is very skillful player. He can play the central midfield and can play as the controller in the middle both offensively and defensively.
He could be a player to replace Brown if the reports have been true.
Though he could be costly as he has a number of international apperances and has been watched by many clubs so possible 25 million DKK - £3M.

I'm sure I could bore you to tears with my views on the emergence of consensus between political elites and bankers, but I have work to do now, so perhaps another time. :)

As for our election-dodging prime minister being feted by his fellow crooks and liars, I'm sure Dick Turpin was also the toast of the highwaymen. If I recall, Brown was given an award by Henry Kissinger, who once won the Nobel Peace Prize, an earlier sick joke.

"and regardless of your view of history if the northern rock had gone down,as cameron advocated, then not one of there members would have had any recourse to get there money back.it was only after northern rock that brown introduced the 35k rule to make sure there wasnt a stampede of people withdrawing there money which would have caused the whole system to collapse"

That isn't true. (thumbsup)

Where are the reports of our interest in these players coming from?

Looking for a wee bit of advice if possible guys, especially Cardiffbhoy if you're around mate.

There's a crowd of us heading down to Cardiff at the weekend on a stag and we're looking for a few places to go at night?

I see from Celticbars.com that there's;

CARDIFF - DEMPSEY`S PUB, 10 CASTLE ST (Opposite castle) (South Wales No1 CSC)

Is this the best place to catch the game on Saturday?

Phil aka "Spotty St Als Ayn Rand Acolyte"

Stop digging and start reading.

It was £35K per bank and that was only the retail side of it.
The damage to business and commerce if HBOS and then RBS and then ... had been allowed to collapse would have been huge.

Your savings are OK but your wages haven't been paid.
Some Christmas that would have been.

Bigger than the 1930's and we all, hopefully all know how bad that decade was and how it all ended up.

StP's / San Moritz and proud of it.

However it is good to see the solidarity between backwoodsmen when a schoolmate is under pressure.
When will the next post be?

Regarding St Al's, until my children are both 18 I will not saying anything against it in case of "needs must".

Malarkey

Stop talking sense.
The low interest point is incredible.
BoE ran a high rate policy compared to the Fed / EU.
Shredded manufacturing because of the high pound but that is another story.

Gold is the staple of the Mail / Express / Spunky Spunky (Order Order) rants against GB.

My main issue at the moment is that AD has gone native at the Treasury and it starting to spout deficit reduction - Full steam ahead nonsense.

Final point, the election is all to play for.
GB / the LP is up against Cameron's Cronies and not the Tories.
He is building himself a payroll vote with all the candidates he is parachuting into seats or getting on-board with all these open primary gimmicks.

I fear the rabid right will twig soon and all hell will break loose.

Dane Bhoy

I don't doubt your source since it was you who first broke the Rasmussen story which has since shown to be very true indeed.

I'm glad we're looking at the Danish/Swedish/Norwegian market as there are certainly rich pickings there for a club like Celtic and alot of good players.

Are these two players we are trying to get or have you just heard that we are interested?

Dane Bhoy on January 25, 2010 12:25 PM

For a guy arriving to sign along the dotted line, he doesn't appear to have much luggage...

CelticSeph,
The scouts get expenses paid up to Easter Rd...

This Burnely in for Fox story ..... it seems ONLY to be known to the hacks on Clyde. Where is the Sky corroboration? Surely they would know something? Where are the other media outlets, rushing to report this story?

Has anyone heard ANYTHING which confirms this?

£4M!!!! forfoxsake!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry to see Glen Lovens suffer such a nasty injury yesterday but I have to say he is an abysmal defender and should be sold asap.
He always looks as if he has just woken up from a night on the p!sh .
Of course so does McCourt but at least he can play.

CelticSephiroth = He has said that they are being looked at by the Celtic.
However this was how he told me about Rasmussen. lol
Let us hope it is the same (espcially for Holmen.

This is Holmen = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foBRMPfdy2g

Like Messi of the FCB I think.

Don't see any great problem with Fox leaving, is he any better than Naylor, Caddis etc.
Re Solvi Ottesen, what is the big deal with this guy?
On his youtube clips he can't head the ball, mistimes tackles, the refs here would have a field day with him imo.

4M for Fox from Burnley ?
did they win the Euromillions ?

cannae see it. really.
if they were daft enough though.........spend the money on a new left back and the rest on getting Inzaghi or Huntelaar on loan for the rest of the season from Milan.

Dane Bhoy

Double checking with my source in the next hour or so. I'll see what they say.

They told me a couple of weeks ago that Ottesen was one of the CB's we had targeted so I'm willing to believe that we're in for him since attempts to get St Ledger failed.

DubaiBhoy

Haha! Did look like it for a while.

I'm told that our current scouting network employs people who already operate and live in certain markets and their reports are run through JP who is briefed on what attributes and skills the squad is looking for.

Glad to see MAF getting on the scoresheet yesterday, but he looks very much like he will be a scorer of great goals, rather than a great, ie prolific, goalscorer.

Wednesday is huge for us. We need to maintain momentum, & play with the intensity & desire we showed 2nd half yesterday. Its a must win game.

Re Danny Fox- I've been as critical as anyone re Tony, but if he is prepared to acknowledge that a signing hasn't worked out, & move the man on & bring a replacement in (hopefully without any significant loss) quickly, that is a good sign.

Hopefully, we will actually be bringing a replacement in- I don't think we have anyone at the club, unless one of the younger guys is ready to come through, who can play LB successfully. O'Dea, for example, just isn't quick enough. Although obviously he can do a turn there if needed, he is not the answer.

You tell 'em Tony !

Celtic manager Mowbray warns of destabilising elements

"The attention is hugely greater and that can have a destabilising effect on what you are trying to achieve," he added.

"What you need is a pretty tight dressing room. At the moment there is a frustration, I suppose, that I have to go through a process to get things the way I want them."

With Celtic trailing in the league race, pressure to win each week is even greater for Mowbray's side.

When asked if he thought it was fair that there were no grey areas at Celtic, that it was either win or a disaster, he replied: "It appears so and yet in reality that can't be the case for the dressing room, for the team and the players."

"I think again it's the external mediums that dictate that. It can't be allowed to knock us off our stride or the belief what we want to do."

The club though has managed its funds well over the years and still has to do so."

"If I have to move one or two out, maybe one or two that you don't necessarily want to move out, to create some funds then so be it."

Lifted from Celticminded, but I don't know the source

RE: Fox - Burnley

Been advised by one who was @ lunch with Tony Mowbray through his Celtic CC points a few months back.

He mentions that TM at that time mentioned Fox wasn't one which he himself had picked as a signing as he had his eyes on someone else.

Lee Wallace getting touted on Timternet

Lets be honest here, Fox is part of a defence that has not looked any better than they were last season. Wholesale change in the defence was what we all wanted and it seems to be happening.

Better than Naylor, yes, the long term answer? unfortunately no.

RE: Fox - Burnley

While I'm not doubting that there may be something more underhand (ie Fox not being a 'Mowbray signing') it's possible that he just hasn't settled up here, and accepting a decent offer is best all round for everybody.

Weeminger - I agree. How long have we heard of an unsettled Lee Naylor.

madmitch, no solidarity between Phil and I, merely some defence of the institution. If needs ever must your children will be in good hands.

devil's advocate at 2.05 - Dempseys is the best place to watch the game, there should be a reasonable crowd in there, not quite the atmosphere you'd get for a huns game or a champions league game but a bit of a buzz as the maestro would say.

places to go, both 10feet tall and the toucan are fairly central decent nightclubs with very good music, and a more easygoing crowd than the dens of iniquity you will find on st mary street, where you are guaranteed either a burd, a kebab, or a fight.

If Danny Fox goes he ought to be worth more than when we bought him. Since coming to Celtic he’s made his European and international debuts and is at the beginning of his contract.

This season the media attacks seem to be more direct with a clear objective to destabilise. The recent story on Scott Brown and the press conference last friday where TM was repeatedly question on the same topic are typical. As the league hopefully becomes tighter Celtic need a strategy to deal with Media Loyal. We cannot sit passively and accept this nonsense. If the DR is the worst offender then deny access to any of our staff and players to talk to them. At the same time overcompensate where possible with the others and be creative in getting the message over to the fans through the internet even using the celtic forums.

This will hurt the DR circulation and they cannot take that risk. In todays world lost readers do not return. It is time to address this open sore particularly with Keith Jackson an out and out ibrox apologist

KIKINTHENAKAS 12.41pm

Great post. My only gripe & it is purely personal. You missed out the greatest Scottish Sports writer of recent times, John Rafferty, died Sept 1977. He was the master of the press at the time, was on best terms with Jock & best mates with McIlvaney. He was loved by Celtic palyers of the time & greatly respected by plenty on the southside, ask BFDJ what he said to him in the corridor of a hotel in Barcelona '72. He was also the reason(unfortunately) that a certain journalist who has quite rightly been lambasted today went into journalism & I am quite sure there are others who went into the trade because of his unbiased & brilliant writing of the time.
As I say purely biased/personal reasons, but great post...

Fox to burnley! I hope not! He may not be the best left back on the planet but he's a vast improvement on naylor and dod! Bring back stephane mahe!

By withdrawing from the normal sources of our "Celtic Fix" a vacuum is being created.

Celtic ought to be looking at how they can fill it,a marketing opportunity if ever I saw one.

Kojo

i hope you are right re Fortune, but he needs to put together some consistently good performances- i thought he, & others to be fair, was guff against falkirk.

Pablo,

How are you mate. Was that you defending our manager...better late than never:-)

"...At this stage of the season, it’s more important than ever that everyone at Celtic Football Club and the supporters pull together. We will not let this be disrupted by any outside interference..."

Árd Macha

Fox hasn't been a vast improvement on Naylor so AS LONG AS WE REPLACE HIM with BTMs choice then I'm fine with it.

Mulgrew better option than Wallace IMO as the latter would bring even further media attention onto us.

Kilbane although not a world beater would bring badly needed experience to what is a very young, very inexperienced squad right now. Plus as Mort said earlier he can play a variety of positions.

Although hasn't he played for two teams already this season??

DD

A bird, a kebab OR a fight

No use to me.

I need all three to soak up my excess testosterone.

DD

Mulgrew has a good left foot on him and is decent going forward, but is a terrible defender.

Not the solution if we wnat to stop crosses coming into our box from the LB position.

DD

I appreciate you may not be able to answer this fully, & Paul would clearly want you to be careful in what you say, but can you advise what you feel the problem with Lee Wallace is?

I know nothing about the lad, other than what i have seen of him on the pitch, where he looks pretty good. He has, eg, often had Aiden in his pocket!

I saw Celtic down for a 12.30 KO against Hamilton this Saturday and same time against Hearts on Sunday. Which one is accurate?

Wallace over Mulgrew every time..who cares if he is a bit of a bad boy...he can grow up. Good defender and good getting forward, no brainer. Did anyone see Willo Floods 'sensational' goal for Middlesbourgh....he was embarrased.

Guys ......

Is it just me or does this seem ..... wrong??

No-one in Burnley has confirmed this. No-one in Scotland has confirmed it. The guy has played just 20 games for us. If Big Tony has decided to get shot of him based on that then that's one in the eye for everyone who says our manager is too nice .... that would make a ruthless SOB - which is good news if true!!

But seriously .... this story is NOWHERE else but on Clyde. Are we taking our cue from them now? Since when?

I read last week BTM saying after dismissing the Seneros link that they were quite a way down the road with a couple of sigings who would go straight into the first team and he found it funny that the media didn't know either of their names...maybe one is a LB making Fox surplus? Who knows but I like that the media don't see them coming. Rasmussin was broke on Celtic web sites before they had it too so don"t get worked up about players ther media reports on...I dismiss those immediately unless backed by certain posters in Celtic cyberland!
hail, hail.

donegaldanny
I appreciate your helpful views on Kilbane. After all the very unfair (IMO) stick you took this morning for raising a topic which was of interest to many, it says a lot about you that you are willing ( I was going to write `happy` but that would be stretching things a bit!) to come on with such straightforward post.Well done.

penang_bhoy

wallace is the same story as riordan for me, might b good for one of the edinburgh teams but i think his attitude stinks

think hes been in bother with the police on a few occasions, 1 of these time was a fire-arms offence, albeit an air gun (think he shot at a kid or something) dont quote me on that only going on vague memory

Have heard from one of my mates that the deal for fox to Burnley invloves Steven Fletcher heading in the opposite direction, apparently unhappy that Coyle is no longer the manager.

devil's advocate, they'd be delighted with 16 extra drinkers in Dempseys on Saturday , won't have any problems cramming them in.

you do need to do chip alley (caroline street) late on, that is part of the cultural evening in cardiff , just watch for seagulls nicking your chips

watch out for those valleys girls, they are like lions hunting wildebeest, they look for the weak and the vulnerable. if any of your lads are flagging late on they might feel very bad come sunday morning !

Let me repeat again:

This story appears NOT to have come from Burnley. Otherwise someone other than Clyde would have it. It seems not to have leaked out of Celtic Park, otherwise the rest of the press would be reporting it too. If this came from a simple source, that source is talking ONLY to Radio Clyde.

Does that seem credible AT ALL????

Something about this ain't right people ......

In the SPL crosses coming into our box shouldn't be all that probelmatic given we should have the resources and scouts that'd hopefully identify dominating centre halves.

Hopefully Hooiveld is and hopefully we get another one we'd worrry less about crosses into our box and concentrate more on getting crosses into their box.

Maybe BTM will pull a totally different player from the hat than any that've been mentioned.

DD

If Fox is the mole, then he's a weasel.

If there is any truth in the Fox rumours then I think BTM must have a very good LB lined up.

The only reason I can see Fox leaving is if his 1st team place is looking in doubt.

who hasn't wanted to shoot some kid with an air-rifle....

he's hardly likely to have had any sort of role model at hearts to look up to and with the proper management, could be a decent signing. surely the first consideration for anyone we're signing should be "can he play fitba"

Have heard from one of my mates that the deal for fox to Burnley invloves Steven Fletcher heading in the opposite direction, apparently unhappy that Coyle is no longer the manager.

I can almost say that this is definately not true
but I'll find out for sure at some point today.

hooped dreams:

You're getting your mammals all mixed up. Moles are wee and black, Foxes are bigger and ginger, weasels write sport columns for the daily record.

DD

Fair point.

Thompson won a fair few headers last night, hopefully Hooiveld and Rogne (if he gets near the 1st team) will do the same.

I'd still like to think though that if we're looking at strengthening at LB, we're looking at better players than Mulgrew.

James Forrest...

I agree you can't take it as true until it actually happens, I was surprised when i heard it too at 1230pm and seems I was the first to post it when I heard it causing every1 to be surprised. But to give the Clyde sports desk credit where it's due they were the first to break that Gary Caldwell had agreed to sign for Wigan and I posted that straight after I heard it on the 11am news on clyde when everyone had him signing for Middlesborough.

To make sure I had heard right I checked ALL the Wigan/M'boro/Celtic official/fan/rumour sites and NOT ONE were running with the story and it was spot on.

Still Danny still has to agree terms and as GC exercised his right to choose where he plays his football and so can Danny so he may still decide to stay put.

I did post earlier though that if it makes sense financially i.e we paid £1.5m and given he's now a Scottish international and they are willing to double that or better in such a short space of time (23 app's?) and we can get in say a Kilbane for £400k then we have to seriously look at that.

Hail hail

The Spirit of Arthur Lee

Heard it was a straight swap Fox for Fletcher would signal the end for MacDonald I think, especially with Rassmusen on the way in.

So, after about 5 months of normal life, the gout is back again.

For those of you unfamiliar with it, legend has it that gout was developed by Cesare Borgia as an alternative should Garrucha prove to be ineffective when interrogating suspected heretics.

My episodes this past week have started to build up around 7pm, reaching a crescendo between 1am and 4am. Sleep comes as the winter sun rises.

I take 50mg of diclofenac 3 times per day, 50mg of codiene 4 times a day, and 1000mg of paracetamol 4 times a day.

The diclofenac causes a severe skin reaction. It took a while to link it to the diclofenac, suffering the compulsive itching of the hairy nethers best I could in the meantime. I now take cetirizine dihydrochloride to prevent the skin reaction. The cetirizne causes some dizziness and combined with the codeine, causes me to nod off during the day.

The codeine causes constipation. Thou shalt not pass! 7 days now. To ease the constipation I take docusol. This does nothing except induce involuntary and remarkably resonant flatulence.

The paracetamol is thrown in just to give the Nash an extra £4 in prescription charges. It contributes hee-haw else.

In short, I cannot sleep at night due to the pain, I nod off unwittingly during the day, and am periodically rudely awakened by my own over-ripe raspberries.

I'd stay off work for a wee while if it wasn't for my passengers.

Steven Fletcher ? No thanks. I'd rather stick with our current 'outside the box' strikers, Sammy and Marc.

Vinibhoy

Wouldnt say its fact just what I have heard what makes it so unlikely?

PaulMcGrathshouldhavebeenaCelt:

To be honest, I suspect the Caldwell to Wigan story came from Gary Caldwell himself, which is how they got it first. If that's the standard, are we assuming Fox talked to the media about this and that's how they have it cold .......?

Is Danny Fox the mole? And if so does that mean the chicken should be sent homeward to think again?

Just checked out some Burnley websites - nothing about Fox, given that the only source here is Clyde I'm prepared to say not only that this story is pants, but that it is brown Ys with a mustard yellow trim that have been found behind a bed that hadn't been moved for several months.
So there.

"with OUR license fees!"

Exactly. Well stated.

I can choose whether or not to buy any particular newspaper.
And I exercise that choice.

I can choose whether or not to listen to any commercial broadcasting company.
And I exercise that choice.

I can choose whether or not to listen to my national broadcasting company.
And I exercise that choice.

However, what I cannot do, within the law, is choose whether or not to pay for my national broadcasting company.
I do not have that choice.

So under those circumstances, with which I have no argument in principle, I do expect a lot better from them.

A hun mate of mine text me from a George Street (edinburgh) night club the night before we played the jambos to say that typical of the SPL LW was at the bar steaming drunk 12 hours prior to playing us at tynecastle. My mate may have been mistaken right enough but I don't think so.

That along with his prior history is the kind of thing the press would just love to jump on if he were to sign for us.

Plus they'd want about 2.5m for him and he's just not worth that.

I believe the real question, vis-a-vis the reporting of Fox's departure, is this:

Who let the cat out of the bag, and have Burnley purchased a pig in a poke?

15.05 Everton have confirmed that defender Philippe Senderos has completed his loan move from Arsenal for the remainder of the season.

Árd Macha, well met me o'l mate ;o)

In my own defence........*gulp*.......his body language and public defiance against "our" enemies is most welcome by me and it was the lack of this that was giving me most concern. ALL Celtic managers need that siege mentality and balls of steel to take on all-comers. Colchicine works for the pain of acute gout [and gout alone]. You take it until the pain eases and/or you get side-effects, which are usually in the form of an upset tummy.

Allopurinol is something you take every day to prevent acute gout; it's not recommended for the acute stages.

If you're having more than one bad attack of gout a year you should think about taking allopurinol regularly.

No great panic if fox is leaving.

Kilbane would need to take a cut in wages...lets hope he does.

He may have lost some of his pace, which was a big part of his game wen he played left wing although I'm sure will be a huge hit at Celtic, especially at left back.

I feel this will be another bit of good buisness as PL strikes again!

On first impressions, I thought ZZ looked the business, that high expectation has dropped slightly. Still early days tho.

midfield maestro at 2:41 PM

John Rafferty was just marvellous, the doyen of Scottish sports journalists.

Someone told me that the late John's first love was boxing rather than football. The same person also said that John had been one of Jackie Paterson's trainers.

If Fox is for the off then it's got be Wallace, 2 mill should seal it? Should've got him a couple of years ago to be honest.

BTM must've kicked some arses on Sunday because it was a complete transformation from an absolutely diabolical display in the first half. It was like "kickie in" at the park on sundays in the second half. Take my hat off to Young Josh although not pacy he always seemed to be in the right place and winning his headers with ease unlike his partner who was getting a roasting from Kenny Deuchar FFS!!

it should not be a problem as it only needs to be agreed by both the EPL and the SPL to be approved

Regarding Dane Bhoy's earlier two revelations.

Apparently both players have been scouted but nothing concrete (For all you Hai Phong Cement fans) on any offers that will be made for their services.

Hi Tojo

Can you give us any more info on who our new saint is?

Hail Hail

Ghuys dont shoot the messenger BUT....

Clyde news now reporting that Gordon Strachan is in for our captain. Didn't mention if it was a loan deal or a permanent move but would this make sense now we have a rake of CH's(although granted not all of the quality we need) and possibly one more coming in and WGS did just miss out on GC so presumably he still needs to strengthen his central defence and he did play McManus every week when he was fit.....

Swindon Town have extended the loan deal of Celtic midfielder Simon Ferry until the end of the season.

Going down a storm I hear, while Ben Hutchieson has been sent back

Watching yesterday's match I was smitten with anxiety and sensed we were about to witness another horrific result ie. the opposition scoring with their one and only chance and Celtic struggling to earn a possible share of the points.

I am not getting carried away with yesterday's result against a mediocre outfit who's persistent fouling kept them in the match and in the end got what they deserved.

Young Caddis and Mc.Gowan did well for us when introduced and full marks to TM for tactics.

Brilliant display by Marc Fortune who showed the only way to beat a packed defence is with long-range artillery.

Paddy Mc.Court and Aiden are probably the most skilled footballers in the SPL providing Paddy can get his head and his fitness right. More of the same Paddy please.

tojo

Our new Saint? Are we going to be sponsored by St Vincent de Paul?

Mort

BBC now going with the Fox story.

Burnley are interested in signing Celtic full-back Danny Fox.

The 23-year-old signed a four-and-a-half year contract with the Glasgow club in July after leaving Coventry for an undisclosed fee

Tojo,

I am assuming you mean "St" Ledger?

Also, Sean in and Mick out would be a good day at the office for me.

Fox should be kept though unless we have a ready made replacemtent lined up!!

kilbane signed for hull in january 2009. he hasn't played for anyone else in that time so wouldn't fall foul of the 3 clubs in a season thing.

not impressed with his possible signing tbh. might make a good utility man but i doubt he could fulfill the type of fullback role TM has in mind.

he did OKish (at a push) against france but i think he looked like the worst player on the park (along with mcshane) and that was also in a team who defended deep the whole time.
not really like our system which has our fullbacks pushing right up and bombing forward.

if he's coming to play more in midfield then i wouldn't mind so much.

but really, i don't see the point in selling robson if we just sign kilbane. robson can at least shoot and take set pieces.

on the fox rumours. would only be happy if a replacement was lined up (and as above, don't think kilbane could do this).
he's a vast improvement on naylor.
both are suspect defensively but fox is much more composed on the ball, is capable of getting his head up and finding a teammate and can actually put a decent cross in. oh and he's quicker too.

lee naylor can't do any of these things. and putting in a one-off good performance against morton isn't anything to shout about. i'm sorry but he's just hopeless.

I would assume he means St Ledger.

The last Wallace we bought from Hearts turned out no bad

If Fox is the mole then he`s a wise owl doggedly determined that this game of chicken is like a fish out of wanda. It gets my goat up that the cat is out the bag and if there is an ounce of truth he should go quiet as a mouse. He`s a one trick pony who horsed around too much talking bull. He was the black sheep of the dressing room. I`m pig sick that he`s trying to seal a deal with Burnley. The Black Cats would have been a better choice. He was spotted outside the Griffin in his Jaguar holding a chamois with his lapdog, Jim Traynor, (pig has already been used)rabbiting on about his move and the chance to play against the manx again. He`ll have a whale of a time in the Premiership ducking and diving. Its a good piece of monkey business getting 4 million for a carthorse, when he didn`t come with a pedigree. I don't think there's anything at all wrong with Paddy's head, any time I've heard him being interviewed he sounds intelligent and has his feet on the ground.

I don't think there's as much wrong with his fitness as a lot of people make out either, I just think he isn't being given enough game time.

MARTIN 47. 3.34PM

His first love was a certain football team, if you know what I mean, but yes you are correct, his other love was boxing & he did train Jackie P, he also done some training for Benny Lynch, his brother was heavily involved with amateur boxing and still is to this day, at the grand old age of 82(last week). He also loved a sing song & a story appeared in the foreign press after an evening on the shandies one evening during the '74 World Cup, he was a great friend of Jock & had an uncanny resemblance for him. The story was that Big Jock(teetotal) was drunk & singing in hotel bar night before, so good a singer that a certain Rod Stewart refused to sing after him as he was that good...
Plenty more stories where they come from...

Sorry, lack of clarity on my part - for fitness read stamina. I probably misinterpreted MM's point there.

I was pleased to see him come on yesterday with more than 10-15mins left on the clock.

Senor Pablo Diablo - I don't think it's his fitness in terms of being able to last the 90 minutes that's the problem.

I think it's more to do with his core strength and his ability to withstand knocks and his recovery time.

He's not the sort to be able to run off a strong challenge.

I find that a strange one. Presumably Strachan still has the money he would have spent on Caldwell. If GS thought enough of Mick to play him every week why not buy him and give TMsome more transfer kitty. (No animal pun intended)

Future Celtic manager doing well. I wish our club would respond to lying media articles in the same fashion as Norwich have here...

Nowich overtook Leeds United to go to the top of Division One on Saturday but the result has been overshadowed by claims that the club is in serious financial difficulties.

Sunday's News of the World claimed that Paul Lambert's club are on the verge of administration triggering a furious denial from the club.

Celtic's issues last week with the Daily Record pale into insignificance compared to the reaction from Norwich to the News of the World story.

A legal letter has been sent to the newspaper publishers and reproduced on the Canaries website.

In summary the letter states: “Our client is not on the brink of administration.

“Our client is not teetering on the brink of financial meltdown.

“Our client will not go into administration by Thursday 28 January 2010 (or any other date) if they cannot find major (or any) new investors.

“Neither Ernst Young or KPMG nor any other person or firm has been "called in" as a potential administrator; and

“Our client does not desperately need new investment to stave off administration.”

The website demanded: “In the circumstances, our client requires the following:

“ 1. A full apology in wording to be agreed, to be published in at least as prominent a position in the next edition of the "News of the World" and on the NOTW website; in the same quantity as the offending Article.

“ 2. Payment of a substantial sum in damages

“ 3. Payment of all legal costs incurred to date

“ 4. An undertaking not to republish the article or repeat its allegations.

“Should you fail to satisfy these requirements our client will commence an action for defamation. We expect the immediate withdrawal of the Article from your websites and your full response within 7 day.”

Going to the top of the league looks like a side issue compared to the language used in that letter!

Lambert has done a fantastic job on Norwich with 25,000 watching their win over Brentford which almost aggregates the entire weekend attendances of the SPL outwith the Rangers-Hearts match.

After a troubled start to his management career at Livingston and Wycombe and a controversial departure from Colchester the former Celtic skipper is starting to enjoy the success he had as a player.

Promotion now looks likely for Norwich, after their clash with the News of the World keeping hold of their manager could be the club's biggest challenge.

Nowich website statement

Senor Pablo Diablo - I was delighted to see him as well. He is one of the rare entertainers in Scottish football that is capable of turning a game while leaving you salivating over his skill.

Enough of the animal witticisms of late....

If I may change the subject but briefly. There was some speculation on the blog last week as to who might replace BTM. One of the names mentioned was Paul Lambert whose Norwich side has had a spectacular recovery from their 1-7 drubbing on the opening game of the season. They are now top of the league although Leeds have games in hand.

I have followed Norwich's progress closely over the last few months. While I have a high regard for Paul Lambert, I feel we should be a liitle cautious where success has been obtained outside the EPL. Take Alan Irvine, the newly-appointed manager of Sheff Wed. After 3 games in charge, all of which they have one, the Owls are now fifth from bottom of the Championship. Yet his record at Preston, who sacked Irvine in December is pretty underwhelming - 45 games won out of 111.

I take from this that it is a lot easier to turn round a team where the general quailty in the league is moderate at best. From what I have seen, the standard outside the EPL is not even as good as the SPL. It may yet come to pass that Paul Lambert is one day photographed with a Celtic scarf held above his head while he greets the cheering crowds on the steps of Celtic Park.
So far, I believe the evidence is not yet overwhelmingly in favour of such a change.

That is good news.

On Paddy McCourt - for me he is an impact sub. If we miss Aiden or we are struggling to break down a team he can make a difference. He should not start for the time being because of his fitness. In time this may change. However, he is great to watch and i hope he can stay fit and play more often in the future.

I've been looking at the Guardian's stats centre (I was bored). We have conceded more goals (14)away from home than Kilmarnock (13)who are 11th in the table. However, we have scored more away from home than any other team (21). Unfortunately we have only scored the same number at home.

Not scoring enough at home and conceding too many away from home. Not a good combination.

I have one on the shelf and was browsing through Celtic Minded 3 today. There was an article in the Prejudice Section that could have come straight from James Forrest only - wait for it - longer.

I am going to order for that chapter alone. I want to see if he brings up another aspect of what TV does. Not only does it let us see a game or incident for ourselves, but by focusing on one event rather than another it can give a totally false picture of what is really happening.

If you think of R Clyde watching Setanta last year, they were dependent on them replaying any incident to pick it up and make it a talking point.

I would not be surprised if Setanta had a guy reviewing the action right after anything happened and they then decided what and what not to highlight. Surprisingly anything that benefitted us was highighted, even a corner given that wasn't, whilst nothing was made of anything that might disadvantage Rangers.

Would most on here play Paddy regularly? Bottom half teams only? Regular sub? Away games only? Home games only?

Re the Danny Fox for the offski story, nothing against Danny, hope he has a successful career with us, however I was just thinking we’ve hardly got any players that you would get really upset about if they left. None of the defence including AB who I think is beginning to lose interest, maybe losing Aiden from the midfield would be a blow, and none of the attack. Changed days indeed.

I'm a new sign up to this site - husband a long term lurker - he can't type - you should be relieved, believe me. Enjoy the banter myself. Been living in Spain for eight years and I've left him to visit family in Scotland for a few days. I know he'll be cringing when (and not if) he is reading this. Left Spain early on Sunday morning when his blood pressure was at critical level due to the Daily ranger and certain radio stations saturday editions. Soooooo glad after yesterdays result that all vital signs must now be nearly back to normal and I can enjoy my wee break happy in the knowledge that he'll be at peace with his quick news
- for the next day or so anyway until one of these "journalists" decides he would like to make up a story or two and try to get some higher circulation figures for their newspaper, radio station, etc which after all, is what its all about, and the rankers fans fall for it every time.
My blood pressure fine - I KNOW Celtic will win the league

PS You have two days left to tidy up! (now he does know who it is)

PS - Thinking about some of the exchanges earlier on, I didn't think I'd ever see the day when I'd be trying to convince socialists, or at least people who are politically on the left, that giving taxpayers money to bankers was a bad idea. :)

Jungle Jim:

My thoughts on Paddy are;
he has scored some brilliant goals for us against the St Johnstones/St. mirrens.I would love to see how he copes against the top teams in the SPL and in Europe. My own feeling is he would do well.
I would like to see him getting more playing time, the question is always going to be who makes way for him. Rather than see him on for the last 20-30 mins of a game, I would like to see how he starts. If he runs out of steam after say, an hour, Mcginn could replace him. Both Paddy and Niall would be most effective against tiring defenders.
One things for sure, we must give him enough football to be sure of hanging on to him.......He's a gem of a player.

I think 2010 could be such a year.

That's brilliant bhoys. I'm going for the quadrofenian t-shirt and the charlie tully book.

BTW - I see the History DVD is out of stock at the shop. anyone know how to get a hold of a copy - ligit-like?

JungleJim -

I’d start Paddy if he is fit to play. We face the same tactics home and away so it doesn’t really matter where the games are. He is a player similar to Aiden in that he can unlock a defence with effortless skill. I think he deserves a run, but like everyone else he should be dropped if he’s not producing the goods.

You will get immediate relief by taking colchicine. However don't take DDBIA literally when he says you will have an upset tummy. You can experience dramatic and immediate side effects as per the following from an Rx site:
Vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea may occur with colchicine therapy, especially when maximal doses are necessary for a therapeutic effect. To avoid more serious toxicity, the drug should be discontinued when these symptoms appear, regardless of whether or not joint pain has been relieved.
When you're in pain you will do anything for relief.

I recently switched from Allopurinol to a relatively new drug Uloric, and so far all is well.

http://sport.stv.tv/football/scottish-premier/celtic/152848-celtic-accept-burnley-bid-for-danny-fox/

The English Premier League club have had a surprise offer for the Celtic left-back accepted, just six months after he moved to Scotland.

Celtic have accepted a bid, understood to be in excess of £1.5 million, from Burnley for their left-back Danny Fox. It is expected that the former Coventry defender, who only moved to the SPL in July from the Sky Blues, will head to Lancashire for signing talks with the English Premier League club later this week.

The news comes after it was revealed captain Stephen McManus may also be heading out the door. The defender is close to agreeing a loan deal with Middlesbrough and is currently holding talks with the Teeside club.

News of Fox's move away from Celtic Park will come as a surprise to Hoops fans, with the 23-year-old having been a virtual ever-present in the Celtic team since his arrival in the summer. He has made 23 appearances since his Champions League debut against Dinamo Moscow in July 2009, last playing in the 1-1 draw with Rangers before he was sidelined by injury.

Shortly after his move to Celtic, the English-born player declared his eligibility for Scotland and went on to make his debut in George Burley’s last game in charge against Wales in November 2009.

After a strong start to their first season in the English top flight for 33 years, Fox's prospective club Burnley have found life increasingly difficult and are just one point off the relegation places in 15th position.

Owen Coyle left the Clarets in January this year for the manager’s job at Bolton, with former Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws stepping into the hotseat at Turf Moor.

Laws currently has former Dundee United full back Christian Kalvenes and one-time Newcastle defender David Edgar as his choices in the left-back position. Former Hamilton player Brian Easton is also an option for Laws, but he has made just one appearance since his summer switch from the SPL.

Fox’s arrival at Celtic in July saw Lee Naylor frozen out of the first team picture at Parkhead and it was widely speculated that it would be the former Wolves man who would depart in the January transfer window. Naylor is out of contract at the end of the season and Ipswich Town boss Roy Keane is a known admirer.

Instead it seems that it will be Fox who will dramatically cut short his spell in Glasgow for a move to the English Premier League, leaving Celtic short of cover in the left back position.

Think big Tony is clearing the decks.....bravo!!!!!

2-1 egypt.

I've heard paddy likes a bit of a toke, he's a genuine magician but perhaps like most footballing genius slightly mercurial. looks to be short on puff at times but what a brilliantly natural talent he is.
An impact player for me for now.

if fox and mcmanus go...Major transformation. in only 6 months

backing Tony's revolution. lets hope he gets the time

Just purchased the Charlie Tully book, looking forward to a good read.

Mc Court can pass a ball too, I think he deserves his starting spot.

Now that the suggestion that the Fox is leaving the coop appears to have gained some substance I can only say that I am pleased. For me he has been less than convincing and certainly only a marginal improvement on Lee Naylor. If it is an indication that Tony Mowbray will move quickly to rectify any buying errors that has to be a good thing. I look forward with interest to what will happen next. Whatever it may be this window has certainly not been boring.

Geremi doing his best to get Nguemo back to us.

Ach furcrissakes 1-3, didnt look like a goal.

Bankers/taxpayers/socialsts - LOL

Tories in power, Socialists in power, the sons and daughters of robber barons or factory owners. Separted only by centuries.

It is a choice of who will do the least personal damage.

I no longer take them seriously.

The book is a really good well balanced read into the causes of the the crunch.

algeria also through thatnks to maj bugger.

seems to be tryin his best to stay away from mordor for as long as he can!

Absolutely shocking decision by the referee in the Cameroon game to award the third goal to Egypt, the goal that has killed the game.

Ball of underside of bar lands on playside of the line, referee from outside the box awards it without consulting linesman.

Aparently they have sfa refs in Africa.

Booooo

STV News says McManus to Middelsborough on loan and Danny Fox of to Burnley at this rate it will be a brand new side against the HighBs.Lets support Tony Mowbrays Revolution he said he would change us and hes certainly doing that. Hail,Hail

MAF certainly confounded his critics yesterday. Talking about critics, article on Keevins worth a read....

Afternoon / Evening all. I am in need of some advice. I will be staying at the Sheraton Heathrow Wednesday night and would appreciate any help if someone knows of a Celtic minded pub in the area that will be showing the match.

Hail hail.

RRC - thanks

CF - you have long misrepresented my position on the wines Del Duero. I think they're great, I've a bodega foo o the stuff. I just think there are better Riojas more widely available and more affordable. Got a couple of bottles of Gran Reserva Coto De Imaz for Chrimbo - stunning. The second is sitting behaving itself downstairs right now. Never did get the Vega Sicilia though. Anyway, how ye keepin?

I might go for the McGrain t-shirt after all. Nah, ah'll huv the baith!

If Fox leaves then, in my opinion, something has happened behind the scenes. It may simply be a story spun by the media (and I hope it is) but if it comes to fruition then I'd be interested to see if we get any reason.

Well, if Danny Fox really is off back home, we can only assume it is one of two things; Tony doesn't like what he has seen since the signing or the player is homesick.

If the player himself had trouble settling in Scotland, then fair play to Celtic for letting him go back so early. We've got our money back and no harm done.

One suspects he was destined for a three year term, most of which would have been spent as a whipping bhoy. We all watched some of his mistakes, we were all concerned by early reports from Coventry which said he was better going forward than he was at defending, and we never really saw the "dead ball specialist" we all expected to be in the Hoops.

If this, in fact, is what Mowbray has concluded, then we have a man who is ruthless and determined to rebuild his side - in an image of his choosing. I saw no evidence that Fox was much better than Lee Naylor, who will now get an extended stay of execution, one would presume.

Fox was a squad player, and a reasonable one, but let's not kid ourselves that he was the long-term answer, because I think we all saw early signs that he wasn't going to be that.

Regardless, if he's going home then I wish him well and hope he does well for himself. When we signed him we all hoped he'd be the long-term solution to a long-term problem; clearly, he won't be, for one reason or another.

That's a shame. But it's football. And we will march onward.

Viva La Revolution! One Tony Mowbray!

get your good lady to buy you Rangers then you can have the pleasure in shutting them down. You will also make a profit as their Stadium and training grounds are reportedly worth 100+ milliion. Win win situation.

So if we are selling Fox who replaces him? How much did we get him for and how much will we sell him for? Is this TM's decision or has it got PL all over it? Is he the Mole? So many questions so little time.

Seems a strange move at this time unless TM has his eye on a replacement.

Anyone? Ayrtic? Paul67?

McManus off on loan to Middlesburgh. Imagine moving to a club knowing you are 2nd choice to Caldwell. I am sure Stephen is chuffed. If he goes then he goes with my best wishes.

Gordon Brown is a Globalist, he has told us on numerous occasions.

I've enjoyed your posts today and I agree with you that we have not seen nothing yet and have exacerbated this problem, unfortunately.

3-1 to Egypt.

Landry home safe and sound for the weekend hopefully.

Crosas and NGuemo partnership to be re-established with a new look defence shortly thereafter.

The Celtic game on Wednesday night is not on television in the UK I'm afraid.

Pretty sure it is against the rules of this website to post links to the game and were anyone to tell of a pub in the UK that was illegally showing a Celtic game I'm pretty sure that would soon see the establishment getting a call from Celtic / The Police / The Licensing Board.

Hail Hail

Fox on the Run

Sweet

I think it's a shocker if Fox leaves. He has been a marked improvement on Naylor and aside from a 3-4 games in December, he has gradually been improving and finding his way. Surprised at the reaction on here.

I don't know. You go out for the afternoon and two players are could be leaving.

I have a feeling Mick would do pretty well at Boro. Are they now called Celtic North East?

Danny Fox to the EPL? Is it true? Surprises me, although from our experience signing a good left back seems to be difficult these days. Anyone know if we have a replacement lined up? Not keen on Kilbane, would like to see someone younger.

And is our Danish bhoy now signed up?

TLOPG,

Cheers. Thanks for the tip.

The animal thing was bad enough without you bringing fish into it.....mind you I thought Mccourt was slippery as an eel on Sunday even if he did score with the sole of his boot, Time for tea now, the old trout's calling.........

Astonished if Celtic may have decided to sell Danny Fox, without a plan B.

For the Danny Fox doubters, o.k. he was no great full back, but after three years of Lee Naylor
he was at least, a full back.

For those that say he compares with Lee Naylor, surely it would have been easier to buy Lee Naylor,

If the plan is to use a right sided player, Caddis or Wilson spring to mind, then we are going round in circles, please get this one right Celtic.
