I know it was only Dunfermline, currently sixth in Division One, but I was very pleased with the performance of several Celtic players yesterday.  Morten Rasmussen must be delighted; two goals from one start and a couple of substitute appearances is a dream beginning for a striker.  He also linked excellently with Robbie Keane for the Celtic penalty and forced the own goal that gave Celtic their winning lead.  Can he score the winning goal at Ibrox?

The most impressive performance was from Edson Braafheid, who created Celtic's first two goals with crosses from the left.  I think it's been years since I've been able to write that about a Celtic left back.  Years!

Robbie Keane got in on the act too.  A month ago you knew teams would double up (or treble up) on Aiden McGeady, who was the only Celtic player who could consistently overcome an opposite number.  Robbie also has this ability, which will make Celtic much more difficult to defend against.  In particular I'm looking forward to how teams defend against us in the more spacious Celtic Park, or Ibrox.  Can he score the winning goal at Ibrox?

Diomansy  Kamara will also be delighted to get his first goal six days after joining the club.  Don't underestimate the importance of personal milestones like this to a striker.  Can he score the winning goal at Ibrox?

At the back we saw more of a common theme.  The defence were given plenty of protection, Dunfermline forced few chances, but an inordinately high percentage of those they did create resulted in goals.  21-year-old Nicky Phinn took Josh Thompson out of the play for Dunfermline's first before a sloppy shove by Paul Caddis brought Celtic to the edge of a real drama.

With Hinkel and Hooiveld both injured, and Loovens looking like he will pick up a concussion every game, it could be some time before the defence is stable.  One sloppy moment at the wrong time could finish our season.

I’m back!

I think everything will click against Hearts on Wednesday and we will be able to sit back and enjoy the best Celtic result of the season…

Celtic 7 Hearts 1

crashed again?

Jobo, how is the “podium points league table” looking these days? Am I pushing for a Europa League spot yet?

Hat-trick!

Where are all you bhoys?

anyone know when the draw for the next round is?

Paul, the strikers scored... except Sammi, who still managed to hit the bar. If he can't put it in the bag drop him!

Speaking of good debut performances from left backs. Why could Danny Fox not hit free kicks like that for us?

Phew... I'm knackered!

'Jim McIntyre, the Dunfermline manager had doubts about the validity of Celtics penalty'
What a joke, shouldn't he replace 'Celtics' with 'Dunfermlines'?

Hi Ghuys,

I'm sorry for breaking the blog last night :-(

I hope I'm forgiven :-)

But it wusnae just me, honest :-D

Hail hail

damn missed again

Just mentioned Braafheid to a Dutch contact who is a bit of a footy fan, he said "Braafheid is quoted in the Dutch press that he wants to go to the World Championship and that he therefore needs to play on a weekly basis. So after 1 July he might be sold by Bayern to another team."

Boyd....Can He Score the Winner at Ibrox....? Against Celtic....

TOF

Paul, the big questions are:

(a) Will it be Morten's goal, Diomansy's goal, Robbie's goal or Glenn's goal that is deemed "the winner at Ibrox"? In a 4-1 victory, which goal is deemed "the winner"?

Will Glenn concuss himself when he heads home the fourth goal at Ibrox from a late corner kick?

If you can't drop a striker who scored in the last game, and we do indeed win 7-1 on Wednesday with goals from Rasmussen(2), Keane(2), Kamara, Samaras & Fortuné, then isn't the team going to become somewhat unbalanced?!

TOF

Statistically improbable I'd suggest.

Oops... I think I messed up the (b), (c) and (d) in my last post!

Great day yesterday. Signs of life from Celtic, sloppy at the back but good going forward, and a win for the Saints in the Super Bowl.

Terriffic Stuff!

Big game on Wednesday. Result is Key, but a big win would start to set the wheels in motion and gather some momentum and confidence

Can Loovens get thru 90 mins without concussing Celtics chances of a clean sheet?

BigChips,

TFOD are 20 goals ahead of us at the mo. so we really need to win each game by 5 clear to swing the goal difference. If we manage that Glenn can concuss himself until the end of season for all I care...

Just got hot tip Traecle tart 1.20 pm Lingfield dont blame me 4/1 paddy power

Paul67, Paul Caddis did put his hand on the pars player but their player reacted as if Big Bobo dropped kicked him, it was his play acting that won the penalty IMO, and of course the ref was only too happy to oblige. Young Paul C hopefully won't make that mistake again.

Hx2

glenda is nowhere near a centre back that we need . i would rather play zippy out of rainbow than him
brahhfield could be our best left back for a while
fingers crossed

Thank goodness a win !!

Thought Braafheid was excellent on his debut, hope it continues. Although the rest of the defence was shaky, I hope Jos and Andy H are fit for Wednesday as well as Fortune who needs to replace Sammi who was back to his ineffectual style yesterday sadly.

Robbie was class when he arrived and his penalty taking was a breath of fresh air. Great to see Ras get another, could he be our "Boyd" ?

Lets get stuck into the Jambos on Wednesday now and get the three points !

At last we have a great scorer of goals in the team as opposed to a scorer of great goals

Our Great Dane looks like the kind of player who is going to score barrowloads, most of them from 3 yards, Hail Hallelujah ! I cant remember the last player we had like that

A good day also for our new number 7 and for Kamara, who really does look a classy act, as does Braafeid going forward..

I'm not worried about the defence as much, big Josh is young and learning the game and is defo behind Hooiveld in the pecking order, he will make mistakes, but for the most part he looks good, dont forget he has a couple of assists to his name already

I'm concerned that the bhoys have had little chance to gel, and we face a difficult 3 weeks, but if we were to win every game between now and St David's day, I would be very confident about our chances

Ming

What I liked about Rasmussen's first goal. He didn't think about it, he knows that any kind of contact from that range is virtually guaranteed to be on target, and has a decent chance of going in.

Celtic had 11 shots on target to Dunfermline's 3 (according to the BBC match report) and won 4-2 to progress through to the next round of the Scottish Cup.

Rangers managed 3 shots on target to St Mirren's 10 and will probably still make it through to the next round. If they win the trophy then perhaps it will be renamed "The INactive Nation Scottish Cup"!

You are right to highlight the pluses from yesterdays match.

For me, the biggest disappointment of yesterdays match, was like the last of old firm game. Taking the lead and within two minutes the opposition drawning level.

Regardless of the opposition, the team must learn to kill the game.

Lurking, I am contractually forbidden from revealing the info you have requested until the final whistle sounds. Sorry.

Danish papers are also linking to our site after our Rasmussen T-Shirt created a bit of interest on the Danish football forums yesterday.

BT From last thread, Cheers

GCT You and the family remain in our thoughts.

Anyone of Rasmussen, Keane or Kamara could indeed score the winning goal at Ibrox as long as we can find a midfielder to play balls in behind the Huns defence. N'guemo, Crosas, Brown - none of them are capable of this type of killer pass. Several times in the first half Rasmussen made runs that were not picked out and as we know this is particularly Keane's game.

Another worrying aspect of yesterday's match, especially given the calibre of the opposition, is that we actually fell out of it after the 4th goal.

Apologies for going out this morning after us NFL types broke the blog!

But the game demonstrate an important lesson!

You see, early on the Colts (in blue and white) were 10 points up.

A poster commented, with just a trace of sarcasm, that us optimists would all no doubt expect the Saints to overcome the deficit and go on to win.

And of course they did - by 14 points in the end.

For NFL fans it was a tremendous game and well worth staying up until 3am to watch.

And for Celtic fans it shows that being behind does not mean being defeated!

This morning was the best Monday morning for some time.

Even my long suffering work mates noticed a more cheerful demeanour..

Lets hope that is the light at the end of the tunnel and not an on coming train!!

Bhoys to win 3-0 on Wednesday and I might even buy the tea and coffee at work!

Hail Hail!

Plus marks yesterday for Braafheid, Kamara, Keane and Rasmussen.
All 4 must start on Wed, or TM has questions to answer.

Boruc looks like a bombscare when we pass the ball back to him. His kicking is panicky at times, and often mis-directed. Also slow to get down at the goal (where he left far post exposed by poor positioning again) and his attempt at a penalty save was woeful - sold himself with his wee dink to one side then always diving to other side. Penalty taker only has to look for dink and aim for same corner. Too easy.
Caddis is steady 'til Hinkel is fity again.
Thompson is learning, and bar the nutmeg in the corner (which wouldn't have cost us a goal if other teammates did their job).
Loovens is a big woosh/bombscare. Can't wait until summer and we try again for a new CH to partner Hooiveld (when he is fit).
N'Guemo won tackles and was tiddy.
Ditto Brown. Do we need both? Or one plus Ki in middle?
Samaras (and McGeady) had another off day. Time for a rest for both.

assetmanager - can't agree with you, MC is probably the best man at the club to play those passes. I felt he was sitting too deep against Dunfermline and NGuemo was getting foward to support attacks.
That's the wrong way round for me. NGuemo is the tackler and apart from his one-off at the African Nations, his shooting is woeful. Crosas can hit a sweet shot when he's in a position to do so.

The manager needs to manage his assets a bit better!

TTTT

Although good to get a win I cannot help but hope we get some defenders fit again. Pronto.

I don't think it was Celtic FC's fault that they didn't get Ivan Ramis from Mallorca, but a seasoned, experienced central defender would really have helped the cause.

In Hinkel and Braafheid we would appear to have two good uns although we have very little in terms of back up as has been shown in the past couple of games.

Unfortunately in central defence we still look a bit short of real class. As has been mentioned by many previously Loovens looks like an accident waiting to happen, O'Dea is probably not quite good enough and I think it is unfair to continue to depend on 18 year old Josh Thompson. He may be promising but he is still a laddie playing a key position.

A Hinkel/Ramis/Hooiveld/Braafheid back four would have looked really solid wouldn't it? If truth be told, in my opinion, we would have been better shelling out the extra to get Ramis than sign . . .wait for it . . . Robbie Keane. Sacrilegious I know but in terms of shaping a team he might have been a better bet.

Before I get completely slaughtered can I say that Robbie Keane is a brilliant player, and it would have been great if both had signed.

For the above reasons I urge the manager to keep things tight at the back and not get carried away thinking we can play McGeady, Fortune, Rasmussen, Kamara, Keane and Sammy all in one side.

Ask yourself one question. With our present defence and not consiously tightening up in midfield do you think we can beat Rangers 1-0 twice? Do you think we can beat anyone 1-0? Or are you like me and think we have to score three times before you can relax?

Brown played a killer reverse pass yesterday to Keane, which was unlucky and Crosas has shown against Aberdeen and others that he knows how to pick out a pass. Now that they have some movement in front of them maybe there will be more killer passes.

"contractually forbidden" eh? "final whistle" eh? "Sorry" eh?

That's just a cop out! :-)

Ki looks like he can pick out the kind of pass that Keane would thrive on.
Might see him back in on Wed - though we'd need to drop N'Guemo or leave McGeady on bench, as Brown and Kamara look certs to start.

I remember it well. It was the only one he managed in 90 minutes against the mighty Dunfermilne. With more movement up front you may be right. Here's hoping.

Agree totally on the centre half issue. No confidence in whoever plays there so far. I think we need a real sitting midfielder to "sit" in front of the two and give protection. This applies particularly against the Bad Guys. We need to win both OF games and allowing Miller, Boyd etc to get at the two ch's without protection will be disastrous.

BTW. Really enjoyed your post last night about your father and how he started to support the Hoops.

Flicking through the blog last night i see somebody had posted an article (i think it was from Scotland on Sunday)whereby the author had revealed that there had in fact been NO bid at all for Rankers. He went on to say that if a bid had been made it would have to be revealed by the Stock Exchange first?

Could TBB, Auldheid, Rogue Leader or any of you financial chaps enlighten me on this?

Afternoon all

Just want to say well done to the team and manager on the win yesterday.
I am still not convinced about Tony Mowbray but had the team lost I would have been on criticising him so its only fair that when they win I should come on and praise him.
Well done to team and manager.
Good perfomances by all the new boys.
Still very wary of what will happen on Wednesday but I really hope I get to eat lots of Humble Pie between now and the end of the season.

We have a lot of players who can pick a pass (brown ain't one of them BTW) but for whatever reason they just don't.

The amount of times Rasmussen and then Keane asked for the ball to be played forward early and to feet only for Samaras, Brown, N'Guemo et al either went from side to side or went or in Sammys case went running up a blind alley was frustrating in the extreme.

We let Dunfermline get back behind the ball and if we continue to do o against SPL teams we'll struggle.

Our midfield lacks any drive forward and thank God for Kamara who looks the only genuine quality player in the midfield at the moment.

Rasmussen is what we've been looking for, someone who stays on the last man and is in the box at the right times.

We need to start moving the ball quicker and more accurately. We still lack players who can play one touch football and actually pass to another Celtic player.

We've now struggled against lower 1st division sides in the cup. If we play like that on Wednesday Jeffries will have the jambos organised to stop us scoring and get right in our faces.

Keane and rasmussen have to start and N'Guemo and Crosas must start as Scott Brown showed nothing to suggest he should be in the team ahead of either of them.

Samaras broke down any real chances we had to break yesterday so should be left out aswell. Perhaps trying fortune wide opposite kamara may work better as McGeady seems to have lost the ability to think about where he's passing the ball.

DD

Burnside Harp - thanks for those links. Can anyone tell me the links that Robert Duval has with Celtic? How did he know Jinky? Or indeed Scottish football?

I am obviously pleased we won yesterday and pleased with a number of individual performances.

Unfortunately, individual is the operative word.

At the risk of arrogance I was fully expecting a Celtic win yesterday.

We were playing Dundermline after all.

I watched yesterday's game looking at the bigger picture - are there signs of a team emerging that can go on a 15 game winning streak?

I was disappointed at what I saw.

To put my comments in context, I have not been on here screaming for the manager's head over the past few weeks. Quite the opposite.

I have all along remained hopeful that we could assemble a team to pull off the improbable.

We can only pray for the swift return of Hinkel and Hooiveld.

Caddis has been poor and disappointing in his failure to seize an opportunity. He may not get a second chance.

Thomson addmitedly hasn't done much wrong, but he's as green as the grass and should not be relied upon to put in flawlwss performances until the end of the season.

As Paul67 notes, it will take only a momentary lapse to kill off our season once and for all.

My other main concerns surround Brown, Samaras and McGeady.

It now seems likely that Brown is going to walk back in to the centre of midfield. This might work if he is part of a trio, but we are screwed if we go with two in the middle. Not only is he ineffectual in that role, but he also compromises the effectiveness of whomever is playing beside him.

There's not a lot to say ablout Samaras really. We will not win the league with him in the starting eleven.

My relief at seeing McGeady dropped lasted all of 65 minutes. Like Samaras, we will not win the league if he features regularly.

We won yesterday on the back of good individual performances from a couple of palyers, not because of a great team display.

The latter will be needed if we are to pull of the unlikely and unfortunately there is little evidence that we are close to getting a cohesive unit on the pitch.

It's ironic that I'm less optimistic after a victory.

Wednesday will bring another game and probably another formation/line-up.

We need to find cosistency quickly if we are to pull this off.

jockbhoy

He made a film in Scotland ( I think he played a football manager) and Jinky (if I am not mistaken was a consultant on footballing matters)

bra a feel looks the part. I can see keane scoring on weds night. cmon the tic.

Jockybhoy

The film was called "A shot at Glory" and starred Ally McCoist also.

I just watched extended highlights of the match again on Sky there. I was a mile out on my comments yesterday regarding Davie Provan’s analysis.

He actually said the Pars penalty was “very soft” which then qualified his later statement regarding a second spot-kick for them.

The problem I have in this whole episode is that I was not even drunk at the time I thought he claimed it was a definite penalty. It can only be age…

Glasgow Celtic 16 shots at goal Kilmarnock 3 shots at goal. Score: 0-1.
Ross County 14 shots at goal, Stirling Alb. 4 shots at goal. Score: 9-0.

Discuss.

what is the stars/jockybhoy

The film starred McCoist as a former Celtic player, playing for a lower league team

Hearts will play 5 in midfield on Wednesday
They will love it,love it if we only play 2
Brown,Llandry and Crosas must start

On the penalty yesterday.
It was one of the softest I have seen and there is now way a similar penalty would be awarded to Celtic.
In fact if that happended to our forward in the opposition box it would not even warrant a TV replay/comment from the commentator/appeal from Celtic players or fans.

Rasmussen is going to be the man for us. He must start against Hearts to give us a physical presence coz Concalves always does well against us in this respect. Mostly due to the fact that Samaras not being tough enough.

I can see where Mowbray is going with this team but I just dont think Samaras fits in. He slows the play down too much and doesnt bring enough to the game.

BTW on the topic of T-Shirts there is a good Celtic T-Shirt transfer here on Ebay. Have a look

UC

the way i saw their goals in the game yesterday, seems so different from most on here, but i suppose thats why im different.

1 - the positioning of braafheid, loovens and boruc at their 1st goal was of u-16 standard, when young thompson got done on the left, the LB was in their half !!!! loovens was at left midfield, and boruc at the front post !!!

2 - caddis cheated the celtic following with that limp attempt at a being sneaky, at first thought it was never a penalty, but after watching it a few times, it was a penalty !!!, but the more i watch it, the more angry i get at the way the defender thought he could defend, and his sheepish look at the ground after the whistle went.

all in all, in that 1st half we had braafheid playing LW, loovens left side, and then crosas in a CB beckenbaur position.
rassmussen up front with whom ?? kamara and samaras both kind of floated , but kamara can float all he wants, because he is class, as for gorgeous , he needs to get out of that side.

in the 2nd half, i thought braafheid was more orthodox at LB, so something was said, and all of a sudden our shape was 100% better.

i thought kamara going off was strange as i thought he was having a very good game, (altho some disagree !!!) but i see the sense in having him ready for wed, along with keano.

kamara getting braafheid out the way to hit the inswinging corner and then braafheid going over to hit the next one from the other side is refreshing. someone is making decisions at last. ans taking charge. well done diomansy.

braafheid getting stuck in with a few mins remaining, and not letting the opposition push him about, tells me all i need to know about the lad.

scott brown on the other hand, putting his face in to his opponent and then going boo !!!! now thats the sign of a captain innit !!!!!

a final word on aidean, i hope he watched diomansy play swift passing football, and watched him cross a first time sizzler across the box and thought, i wonder if i could do that !!!!

for all the dismay of the 1st half, i thought we were old fashioned celtic in the 2nd half.

cross balls from the left paul67 ????
cross balls from the right too ye know !!!!!

GM on February 8, 2010 1:15 PM,

Execellent post and one that wouldn't be a million miles from my own thoughts. I'm just praying that the cohesion required will come with games and the issue is more about familiarity as opposed to TM's coaching.

Ten men won the league

If you find that article about "no offer" can you repost it

I read it at some stage yesterday but when i went back last night i couldn't see it...(Nothing to do with watching Celtic then Scotland then Ar$e game whilst indulging in my favourite pastime after football ...Apple juice)

What a weekend. My Brar was over from the states but I made the mistake of putting on the huns V st. mirren. It was a mistake as he had to mentally revisit about very 5 minutes the "how in gods name are they 10 points ahead of us" for two days. Was still muttering is as he boarded the plane. Even a left footed Celtic left back who can put in telling crosses and looks to have a good engine could not divert hos wonder.

Thank God Braafheid is only with us until the end of the season. A competent international left back signed up for years would be too much for this bhoys heart.

I thought we played well yesterday against a very committed Pars team and the expected Celtic weighting wherever Richmond referees. The ref was conned at the penalty but he wanted to be.

The Caddis and Thomson defensive errors can be expected luckily we got away with them and it will stand them in good stead both had good games and have been watching Big Mick and Gary Caldwell for too long.

I thought everyone had a good game except Loovens , N Gueno and who I thought were very poor. Samaras not far behind. Looking forward to seeing Kamara when fully match fit.

Needless to say the away support was magnificent. They really do shame the rest of Scotland with their impeccable behaviour and rousing support. Well done to them. You are a credit to the human race. Possibly the pinnacle but that sounds a bit like Ted Hughes Hawk Roosting ...but in the same ball park only nicer.

Watched BBC Sportscene last night. Everything they talked about was just plainly wrong. Scotland have a chance, Caddis MOTM, hun players turn their backs on manager not their countries etc. It makes Scotland look like the gene pool is exhausted. Pat Nevin needs a dirty woman. Can nobody help him out ? For all our sakes ?

Pat Nevin on Moyes ooooer missus
Former Chelsea, Everton and Scotland star, he played with Moyes at Celtic Boys’ Club.
David was a few years older than me, but sometimes we played in the same team and if anyone had the word ‘manager’ across their forehead, even at that age, it was David. If you think about Celtic at that time, then Celtic didn’t get beat. The first team didn’t get beat and the Boys’ teams from Under 16 down to Under 12 didn’t get beat. Defeat was unacceptable. David embraced that ethos. Even though he was only 15-16, he would watch the younger teams play on the sidelines, rather than go off doing his own thing. I remember one game. I had scored two goals and was coming off at half-time happy with myself and David marched over to me and, before I even got to the manager, said: ‘I never want to see you doing that again.’ I knew what he meant. The opposition centre-half had been twice as big as me and I could see he wanted to kick me, not the ball, in one challenge, so I moved out of the way of a 50-50 tackle. He was annoyed with me, but not for any other reason than he cared for other people.

Today press not a surprise.

Ed,

can you help gersmedia net with their Lloyds appeal for the 14th feb.

I think it will help if the person who writes it can read and write in English. It would carry more gravitas rather than it being dismissed as funny hoax. Or is it a funny hoax ?

Everyone,

Watched The Football years over the weekend. Rangers 71-72 ECWC triumph. The season of the Ibrox disaster.

Revealing and harrowing photographs of Jock Stein carrying out some of the dead and injured.

And they tarnish his memory with that song. Personally I wouldn´t want what I flush down the lavvy associated with them.

onwards and upwards I hope.

HAil Hail

Ulster-Celt -

I'll be happy if Celtic can just win our next two games to be honest. Right now, that's an achievement in itself for us.

kingoh,

Only a trace of sarcasm!

Sloppy Moment is the key phrase Paul

There were positives to take however at the equaliser for reasons i dont understand at kickoff we got sucked into the right hand side straight away which is lack of concentration dragging the centre halve into full back position who is easily beat.Caddis was slow to react to this situation as was a poorly positioned goalkeeper. All very Sloppy

And thats how easy it is against Celtic. When we switch off we get punished

Mowbray style of play will leave the centre halves exposed to this senario and thats why Loovens and Thompson wont be first choice as the team develops. If you play with expansive full backs you need strong personel at centre valve and intelligent covering midfielders who can spot, support and cover. Caddis and Loovens are not Celtic class

Brown had improved performance and im looking for his aggression to help the centre of the park. Im sure he will come good after decent run

Also for first time it really felt that more than just a few of the crowd starting to turn on Mowbray. Overall he has had support but its fair to say he was 45mins away from the sack on Sunday. He needs to try and keep the wolves from the door as he is walking a very thin line. He needs to create breathing space for himself for Ibrox

Tom English: 'Donald Muir (the enemy within) is getting slammed for turning down an offer that was never made'

Published Date: 07 February 2010
MEMO TO the Rangers Supporters Trust: If you're going to stage a demonstration, stop talking about it and bloody well get on with it. What's stopping you? If you feel that your club's future is being compromised by the bank then get yourselves on the streets with your banners and your bugles and make some noise.
What's that you say? You've been quite angry on Follow Follow? I see. And some of you have closed your accounts with Lloyds Banking Group? Rebellious stuff, for sure. You raised some anti-Donald Muir (the enemy within) flags at Ibrox the other week? Ah yes, it's good to know that the defiant spirit of William Wallace is alive and well and currently residing in the Broomloan stand.

This Rangers business is a bit weird. On Friday we had David Edgar, the torch bearer of the trust, talking grimly about an "organised protest" on the back of a "suspicion that Lloyds Bank is not doing enough to facilitate a sale". I might be wrong, but I thought it was down to Alastair Johnston to facilitate a sale, not Lloyds.

Edgar and chums are going bonkers because the bank supposedly dismissed a bid of £18 million for the club a short while ago. This was Dave King's consortium, we're told. The bank wouldn't countenance the offer and Muir has taken it in the neck ever since.

Here's the deal, though. There was no offer and there is no Dave King, not in terms of buying the club at any rate. King has not been seen around Ibrox since August, hasn't spoken to anybody who matters at the club or attended an important meeting for the longest time. This £18m bid, it's fantasy. It never happened.

How do we know this? Because if it was a proper offer it would have to be declared to the stock exchange. That's the rule. There was no declaration because – and forgive me for stressing this, but it needs to be done in order to get it into the heads of some Rangers daydreamers – there was no official bid. Nothing. Nada. Zip.

The bizarre thing about this is that Muir is getting slammed for turning down an offer that was never made in the first place. But even if it had been made, do you think £18m is enough to get the keys of the door at Ibrox? Not even close. It would be the sale of the century at that price. Ibrox, Murray Park, McGregor, Boyd, Bougherra, Davis, Wilson, Fleck, Thomson, Whittaker all for £18m? The banks have been utterly reckless in their business in recent years, but giving away that lot for such a trifling sum would be bordering on the criminal, would it not?

Anyway, didn't happen, OK? That's not to say that Rangers people shouldn't be worried, but they should learn to target the right people when letting off some steam. Muir is a strange choice. For the life of me I can't understand what exactly he has done to deserve the kind of stick he's been getting. One joker suggested last week that Muir's home address should be published online so that Rangers fans could go and stage a protest outside his door.

Muir is not an employee of the Lloyds Banking Group yet among the disaffected of Ibrox he is the symbol of the bank's persecution of the club. This is a bit trippy to be honest. Muir is David Murray's Mr Fixit. He is on the board in order to ensure that the club don't sink any further into debt. That's his job.

And it needs to be done. Rangers owe £31m and they're going to have to pay it back. Some fans interpret this as a hard line by the bank, a callous attitude that is threatening to destroy the club, but these people are not living in the real world. If you max-out your credit card and can't buy so much as a pair of socks on your Visa, whose fault is that? This is where Rangers are at. They're out of credit. It's payback time. This isn't anybody's fault but their own.

Walter Smith has been making dark predictions for the months ahead. The manager says this thing is only going to get worse, implying that the marquee players at Ibrox are going to be sold in order to service the debt. Smith's gloom is understandable, but it's not necessarily correct. The truth is that Sunderland offered £5m for Madjid Bougherra a little while ago and Rangers turned it down. So they're more robust on that front than some might think. We're not saying that Bougherra and Davis and Boyd and McGregor and Wilson won't be sold in the summer, but it's too easy to forecast a fire sale.

Rangers people have been talking about fire sales for two years and it hasn't happened yet. In the meantime, they've won a title and are ten points ahead of Celtic in their pursuit of another.

So, if Rangers fans feel the need to protest, then they'd want to be clear about what they're protesting over. The bank have not turned down an offer for the club, so forget that one. It's a myth. And they haven't insisted that players must be sold, or else Bougherra would be a Sunderland man by now.

But go ahead, boys. Take to the streets. Make your stand. Call Muir every name under the sun. But you might do me a favour while you're at it. Explain just what it is he's done that's made you hate him so.

Classic Radio Shortbread during the 7.25 sport bulletin this morning - an interview with Charlie Christie on the 10th Anniversary of ICT putting Celtic out of the Scottish Cup. I take it they had this prepared in the expectancy that Dunfermline would do the same.

Don't hold your breath for a similar item on the anniversaries of Berwick's or Hamilton's triumphs over the Hun.

Ten men won the league
Rangers is a PLC with shares traded on the Stock Exchange (think it's the AIM). Shares can be traded on a daily basis but if an offer is made which will take the buyer above a certain percentage of ownership (think it's 29%) then Stock Exchange rules state that, as this is a takeover, certain rules apply, one of which is a public declaration to the market that this offer has been made. One of the reasons for this is it supposedly stops insider trading and making a fast buck from buying up shares at a lower price and when the share prices rise, selling at a large (and illegal) profit.
Other more financially astute posters may have a better, more detailed answer, but I hope that this in some way helps out. So Mr English is indeed correct in what he says. If a bid was made for the full company, this would have had to have been disclosed to the Stock Exchange, who would then have made this public knowledge.

GilHeron,

I saw a good film about you at the weekend entitled Black Wax - very good it was too. You are some man but over do the suffering artist thang a wee bit too much. :-)

Or am I wrong any our Alan´s son? :-))

HAil Hail

Gil Heron

Thanks for that. Yet again more mistruths from Mr Jackson, who i am led to believe ran with the initial story in his newspaper last month. I mean really, why is no proper business journalist pointing this out in their own columns?

Afternoon all, not posted in ages, can't get access at work so have to just lurk most days now.

Good win yesterday, especially when you consider the pressure every game has for these players - season over, especially with a cup loss.

I see BTM building a team of players, who are confident with the ball, want the ball and do not hide, we also now have more physicallity and height about the team, unlike under our previous manager.

Now is the moment to support your team
Now is the moment to practice what we preach (YNWA)
Now is the moment to raise the roof and sing our support a la European nights
Let's rip the heart right out of Hearts before a ball is kicked on Wednesday

Hail Hail

Gordon J - what a fantastic Superbowl that was last night, the underdog had his day and agree with what you said re the Saints being behind.

"21-year-old Nicky Phinn took Josh Thompson out of the play for Dunfermline's first"

So other teams are now lacing our defenders drinks and giving it a slightly different name to help score against us.

Shocking this has went un-punished, shocking.

Already in the taxi....

Paul
You said the defence got plenty of protection.
This is true but only in the sense that we played 3 in front of them Brown Crosas and N'Guemo
Unfortunately none of them is a genuine defensive player
None of them can tackle properly nor knows when to tackle
As a result even a poor Dunfermline team were able to cut through us very easily
Indeed as someone pointed out after the fourth goal we allowed D'line opportunities to get back in the game
Thankfully they were too knackered by that stage to take advantage

Hearts will be a far more difficult game
We need to win and control the midfield to allow our forward decent posession and keep our defense away from harm

The 3 that played yesterday Brown - Crosas - N'Guemo will have to in again

I would go for

AB ( though he needs a rocket )

PC JT DoD ED

SB MC LN'G DK

MR RK

So if no such bid existed why do the newspapers not print this in bulk?

Well, we can all guess at the answer but seriously are we reall meant to believe that they as a club could have been sold for less than half the debt?

Essentially Wayne Rooney is worth more than Rangers?
They have not taken into consideration - playing Squad and assets and all that is before Murray's shares and MIH comes into play.

Nae wonder they are all protesting if they eat the garbage from the tabloids who can't handle the gravity of the situation.

GM on February 8, 2010 1:15 PM

You are spot on. There is precious little sign of any coherent strategy at all, with different personnel & formations being used from game to game. Are we a team who will normally play 4 4 2, 4 3 3, or 4 2 4? Does anyone, & I very much include Tony in this, know?

What is absolutely clear is that 2 men in the middle does not work against even mediocre opposition who are properly set up. Hearts will be properly set up on wednesday.

It doesn't matter whether the 2 are Crosas & N'Guemo, Crosas & Brown, or N'Guemo & Brown. We can't repeatedly leave our midfield outmanned & overrun.

We are also looking at a serious problem if we play in british football with 2 small, slight fullbacks. Yes, Braafheid looked really good going forward yesterday, but there is not much too him, & it seems likely that any team playing against him & Caddis would surely look at playing high diagonals to either a big centre forward pulling wide, or play a tall midfielder against one or both of our small fullbacks.

Hopefully Hinkel will be back soon, although he isn't the best defensively, he at least ain't a midget!

As we do now, when Hinkel is fit, look like we have fullbacks who can go forward & put in quality balls, then that suggests, with the signing of Kamara & Keane on loan, that perhaps Tony is thinking of generally playing a 4 3 3, with a narrower 3 man midfield & the width being primarily supplied by the fullbacks. That i think could actually work...

It would though be totally dependent on Rasmussen, as he is the only centre forward we have who can play naturally in that position. When we brought him in, I didn't expect him to be a first pick. However, first impressions do look favourable- as others have posted, he looks like someone who will get his goals from the centre of the pitch, & from short distances. Boy, do we need someone like that!

If Tony is wanting to go with a 4 3 3, having Rasmussen in the middle, with Keane/Fortune/Kamara/Samaras playing the channels, it seems strange to me that we did not encourage McLeish to go for Aiden in the transfer window. Even allowing for Tony's eccentric selections, I can't see Aiden playing in a 4 3 3 ahead of any of these guys.

Anyhow, i await with great interest the team selection for wednesday. Will there be signs of a consistent, & sensible, selection/strategy policy?

If we substitute Keane for Sami, & obviously have Hoiveld & Hinkel back in when fit, then that for me would make me think as one of Tony's biggest critics that perhaps he does have more of a clue than i have given him credit for. If though its back to 2 wingers with 2 wide players, or a 4 4 2 without an out & out striker, ie one without Rasmussen, then it is really time to despair!

"though the penalty awarded against Austin McCann for a challenge on Keane after 67 minutes, from which the Irishman scored, seemed soft. “I’ll need to see it again but Austin claims that he got the ball,” Jim McIntyre, the Dunfermline manager, said." _ Britney

I thought it was a leg breaker.

"So Mowbray lives to fight another day. The consequences would have been dire for their manager had Celtic lost here yesterday. Having won just three of his last eight games in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League, Mowbray is hardly out of the heat, but at least for the time-being there is no lynch mob after him." - Britney

And another thing...

Celtic? My mum forced me

So the Scotland manager, Craig Levein, ran around in a Celtic top as a kid, did he? Conspiracy theorists take note — you can make plenty of hay with this.

Levein and your humble columnist did a Michael Parkinson-style Q and A in the Byre Theatre in St Andrews on Tuesday night to raise money for the Association for International Cancer Research (AICR). In the one hour of audience participation that followed our conversation, one bloke stood up and asked Levein what his boyhood team was.

“Well, I wore a Celtic strip — but I was made to by my mother, who had bought me it,” Levein replied. “The truth is that Raith Rovers were my team — I was taken to Stark’s Park by my uncle. So I supported the Rovers.”

There were one or two Rangers fans in the audience in St Andrews and you could almost here them thinking, “Aye, right, Craig” as Levein offered those words. Personally, I think we need to watch the Scotland manager like a hawk. - Britney

No biased reporting in the Dunfermline Press then...

"Celtic opened the scoring in the 20th minute after shoddy defending allowed Diomansy Kamara to poke in an easy goal ..."

Kamara's goal easy!! my @rse. Was a really well taken bulleted shot into the roof of the net from almost 16 yards.

anyone remember when solid if not great team performances were turned into victories by a hero (usually wearing 7)

so yesterday was not great but we have a couple of match winners now in the team imo

and dont forget nobody other than arsenal has ouptplayed us this season (hamburg may have had better quality but they didnt outplay us)

most of our defeats have come from individual errors and ref decisions so i for 1 am not bothered that 1 or two heroes might emerge from a sh*t performance

Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo

I was sitting listening to Nevin last night and was actually angry that TV license money is going towards analysis like that. Every word that came out his mouth was utter garbage, I was starting to wonder if it was April 1st with some of his comments.

I am really at a loss as to what he was on, was he having us all on or was he serious? If so I'd question whether he has a clue about football.

Kamara to have a free role, swapping flanks to avoid man marking.

I thought at one point Dougie Donnely was going to cuff him over the head. Like yer Da done when you were talking tripe and embarrassing him when you were a wee boy.

To quote the film Braveheart "The problem with Scotland, is its full of Scots!!"

Unfortunately Scotland embarasses itself most of the time with its appointment of football pundits/commentators/'experts'.

Pat Nevin - the so called 'well-educated' footballer talks a lot of mixed up drivel.

Then we have the guy who does the commentary on Radio Scotland on Saturday afternoons.. Ive never heard such a montone drone as this guy - totally embarassing.

Dougie Donnelly.. Pah

Guys like Craig Burley (who is excellent) and other such as Alan (Im English) Hansen etc choose to bump the Scottish game leaving us with ex-footballers who cant string a sentence together.

There are a few half decent ones but I cant remember who!!

Aiden will play as the 3rd in the three up top - people don't seem to get that apart from the main striker the others come back into midfield. Keane will/should be the secondary striker with McGeady, Kamara or Samaras as the third man.

Paul67,
I thought you might have brought symmetry to your article by asking, in similar form to your questions regarding the strikers...

Loovens/Thompson...
Will their errors contribute to the losing goal at Ibrox?

hello, 3 quick points

1. I can't believe Paul is suggesting the Caddis incident was a penalty. The attacker is backing in and backing in to Caddis, he either moves back to give the boy a free go in the penalty box or puts his hands up to stop the attacker bullying him (it happens in every game at every level) as soon as he does the cheating attacker throws himself in the air, all of this in front of the ref who points to the spot as he can't wait to give it. Quick question, would we have got it? no chance (or come to that point would Gary Caldwell have been allowed to score the goal for us that he did for Wigan) no chance. The refs in Scotland are trigger happy when it comes to decisions against Celtic and I believe that is showing itself in our defensive play were the guys seem nervous about putting in any tackle, there is something amiss here..............

2. On Tennants has anyone had a tour of the museum at wellpark brewery in Dennistoun? there are real interesting historical articles about employment policy in that establishment in the early 20th century, and we allow them on our shirt..........

3. Who all enjoyed hearing Bonkers Keevins being forced to applogise for saying the Huns were bankrupt, it was humiliating, thanks Hugh..............

By shimmies33 on February 8, 2010 2:17 PM

why would you have keane and fortune and not keane and rasmussen???

On the subject of pundits, Craig Paterson is like an Armando Iannucci creation.

Ten Men, jc2 - what gets me is it's amazing how many of them are still enamoured of David Murray and a) don't realise what he's done and b) think he's going to get him out of it.

Even the reasonable (I know) one's that are prepared to actually have a chat about refuse to accept that eg his property valuations are a bit suspect.

Life-long Celtic fan Brian Duffy has joined the board as an independent non-executive director.

Duffy is group president, Europe, of the Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation.

He joined Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation in 2003 as president and chief operating officer, Europe, from the Sara Lee Corporation where he held a number of senior posts.

Chairman Dr John Reid said: "We will be drawing upon his enormous experience in UK and international retail operations, merchandising and brand development as we look to build our business further in the coming years."

Duffy added: "I was brought up in Glasgow, and as a lifelong supporter of the club I am honoured to join the board.

"It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to play a part in the club's future and I am looking forward to it tremendously."

No More Old Firm

I agree that Aiden could play that role, but think he would offer less of a goal threat than the other candidates, & I just don't see him being picked ahead of Kamara or Fortune (or even Sami, for that matter), as part of a front 3.

If you are right & he will play Aiden in that way, then why have we spent money bringing in Kamara to be a second choice pick when we already have Fortune & Sami? Doesn't make sense to me.

ibleedgreenandwhite

A very public apology at the end of the show on Saturday

shimmies33

You may be closer to the actual line up chosen by TM.
I fear he will not start Rasmussen, and will go with Keane and Fortune. Also think TM will start with McGeady.

I know Fortune has done well lately (and can feel hard done by getting dropped), but for me Rasmussen must start and it's one other up front with him - in which case it's Keane ahead of Fortune.

Surely there must be a decent centre half out there who is out of contract any ideas. the left back had a decent game but remember when danny fox he was the answer to the problems of the left back situation.wheres danny now shiped out to burnley.so what i am trying to say is only time will tell if this new left back is going to be any better.Thought big thomson had another steady game given time he will be a good centre half.Still not convinced with BTM.

Thoughts on yesterday ...

- A win is a win, and to score 4 and get Keane and Kamara off the mark will pay dividends against Hearts...

- The penalty given against Caddis was not soft, it was simply not a penalty. There will be 10 penalties in every game if that kind of 'challenge' is deemed a foul in the box.

- Will be glad if and when the furoré around Keane dies down as it seems to be the only thing the media can talk about. He is a good player and will do well but he aint Lionel Messi or Fernando Torres.

- Josh Thompson deserves to be dropped for losing the 1st goal - but only if we have O'Dea available

- As a few have mentioned - Kamara, Keane, Rasmussen, Braffheid,NGuemo deserve to keep their places. The rest is a lottery with so many waiting in the wings for a place.

- Scott Brown did ok but he makes it look like hard work when he is trying to make a pass to another Celtic player. I dont see that he made a match-winning performace as player or captain yesterday.

- Samaras should get used to being on the bench - he is too unconventional and upsets the rythym of the team.

- Fortuné also deserves a place but with Rasmussen and Keane playing so well together he may be unlucky and miss out.

- McGeady > needs to pull some decent form out of his butt otherwise we should be giving someone else a chance for the run in for the SPL ( Ki, McGinn, McCourt, Caddis)

- In the next 4 SPL Games (Hearts, Aberdeen, D.Utd and Gers) I would tell the full backs to concentrate on defending for the first half hour and not to go hare-ing up the wings at every opportunity as I feel this leaves us exposed a lot of the time.

- Zheng Zhi - Why did we sign him?

- Crosas - a good tactical player - but only for selective games - he is a good passer but lacks and bite or ability to find a forward pass often enough - A luxury player we dont need at this stage.

- Ki - a player with undoubted ability - maybe he isnt cut out for being thrown into the fire of the last 15 SPL games - he might need time (that we dont have) to settle into the team.

looks like the word 'knob' is banned......

Overhead kick at 2.16

Craig Burley , excellent , really ? In what universe do you exist ?

He is an ignorant brain dead anti celtic moron who can't even be bothered to research the players he is commentating on. i'd put the foot down hard on the accelerator if i seen him on a pedestrian crossing.

in agreement with gerry_bhoy, our best side for wednesday would be the following

Boruc

Caddis
Thompson
Loovens
Braafheid

Kamara
N'Guemo
Brown
Ki

Keane
Rasmussen

Fortune: Sadly great player but we get what we paid for from keano and ra ra. goals!!
McGeady: Needs benched, too much talent available. So it's unnecessary to take a gamble on McGeady having a good day. The remaining matches are too important
Samaras: Love his determination and heart but when he's good he's great when he's bad he's destroying the flow of play. Again can't gamble on him having a good day.

weeminger @ 2:24

The more delusional their observations, the worse the situation becomes day by day. The bank will not be budged regardless of the protests. They will quite simply flog the necessary amount of players in the summer to get their money back.

Now, if we can somehow claw back this lead that they have it will indeed be a Carlsberg summer :)

PS buy yersel a Toyota - ready made defence fur ye as theyre scraping him aff the road - " ma pedal stuck" ...

Question?

Did the back of our excellent LB (Get him signed) say BRAFFEID yesterday?

p

overhead_kick

Broadly in agreement with your points but wouldn't drop Thompson at the minute as the mistake yesterday was his first since coming into the side.

Darren O'Dea was culpable for the goal against Falkirk. He, along with Loovens gave away the penalty against St Johnstone and he let Stokes get past him far too easily for Hibs first goal.

I would prefer that we persist with Josh Thompson and pair him up with Hooivelt when he regains fitness.

Mort

CardiffBhoy

Burley is def more intelligent and articulate than most of the commentators in Scotland

Charlie Nicholas is anti-Celtic, Burley I think is a Celtic fan and simply airs his frustration at the current mess of a team that we have been watching this season.

Possibly a bit harsh that you would actually Mow him down - but each to their own!!

Overhead_Kick

Your digging in a bit deeper.Whatever else Charlie is, he is a Celtic fan.

Craig Burley is no Celtic fan

shane/gerry

just my opinion that fortune will start with keane and ras coming on after an hour

kojo

you are correct when you say aiden hasnt been his best for the last few games however i dont see you using your same indelible rationelle were your secret love child young master caddis is concerned!! to say he was poor yesterday could be classed as an afront to the word poor cant defend cant jump cant cross the ball but other than that he was ok lol!!! your pal who likes your level playing fields

Thompson got 'megged at the corner flag for their 1st goal, at that point edson, loovens and paul caddis had opportunities to intervene, as well as our formerly agile goalkeeper. thompson should not be bumped on the basis of losing one challenge, we wouldn't have a team left if that was the case.

timbhoy (2.28pm)... Bobo?!

As for LB, I note that having only won once in 14 attempts since October last year (against 3rd division Milton Keynes in the FA Cup) Burnley finally managed to win again... with debut boy Danny Fox creating one of their two goals and scoring the other!

I dont think we should be given David Raged of the Rangers Super Strop Trust a hard time. He became the darling of the laptop loyal until he found out that they were only extracting the urine and using him as an Eddie the eagle figure of fun type of figure. So he has broken ranks and is now asking the questions himself

Here are those questions

We the confused peeples from would therefore call on the Rangers Board of Creditors, Mr. Muir and Lloyds TSB to answer the following questions:

• Have contracts been offered to key players, for example Kris Boyd and Kirk Broadfoot?
• Have any contract offers been subsequently altered or blocked by Mr Muir?
• Why was Kyle Lafferty not sold during the recent transfer Window ?
• What are Mr Muir’s exact responsibilities on the Rangers Board and does he have the ability to overrule the decisions of other directors?
• Does Martin Bain have to clear any decisions with Mr Muir or does Mr. Muir ignore him also ?
• Did Walter Smith have the option of reinvesting the funds generated by the sale of Pedro Mendes and the release of Jerome Rothen?
• Were any requests for new players, either purchased or on loan, during the recent transfer window blocked by any or all of the Rangers Board? If so and if it was for Kyle Lafferty who made this decision?
• Has an informal offer for the club been made? And if so on what grounds was it deemed unacceptable?
• Has a derisory offer for the club been made? And if so on what grounds was it deemed derisory?
• Who is making any decision in respect of the selling price of the club and whether any offer for the club is accepted or rejected?
• Are Lloyds TSB insisting on full repayment of the debt prior to the club being sold?
• Is there an ongoing issue with Sir David Murray and his share-holding in the club?
• Does Mr. Murray have any input on the sale of our club?

as told to Remit Entrap "Mc Guire "

whats the craic with Rogne? he was on the bench yesterday. maybe he'll get a few minutes on wednesday. I'd love to see what all the fuss is about :)

notthebus

OK maybe im wrong about Burley being a Celtic fan - i dont know for sure.

But my other points stand, Charlie N takes an negative stance towards celtic at every opportunity.

Mort

I didnt mean we should drop Thompson for good, due to 1 mistake against a Div 1 player altho he needs to learn from that error - but with Hearts, Aberdeen, Dundee Utd and Gers coming up - I feel that experience may be a better option as he will need to up it a level - so if O'Dea is available then Id prefer him in there.

cardiffbhoy

I was wondering about the Thompson nutmeg and i was thinking why dont we accept fouls in areas like that?

Just blooter the boy out the park and take a yellow if its a mistimed challenge.

In Brazil they done a survey where they found out that the team that commits the most fouls in a game normally wins the game.

That policy has to be used with great caution obviously but it would have prevented a goal yesterday for sure.

Overhead_Kick

I agree re Charlie.

A chip on his shoulder for sure.I just think he is a bit of an idiot to be honest.

Thin end of a non-existent wedge may spark fires on all fronts - whit ? huh ? knuckledraggers should be forbidden from having free artistic license

Regarding Your Reasoning Behind the Discarding of Mr. Fortune..from the First Team Pool.. I am in full Concord with our Accord.

Palomine..

Let me add this..as an additional reason as to why we Cannot Play
Mr. Fortune.. well.. evah, again..

That above statement is Prefaced on the Fact..which is..

If we are determined to have a Swift Moving ..FORWARD Thinking.. Strike Force..led by the likes of Mr.Keane, Mr. Kamara, and Mr. Rasmusson...then Mr.Fortune's Style is not a suitable one,in that case.

For...

Mr.Fortune's most Valuable Asset, is shown to be, his ability to RETAIN THE FOOTBALL.. which, unfortunately,by so doing ...ALSO... HOLDS UP OUR ATTACK, to the Extent the the Opposition Defense, has Loads of time to Regroup, which is not the ideal situation that we would like.

Kojo.

We would also call on any prospective new owners of Rangers Football Club to make themselves known. LOL

Craig Burley is a bitter (against Celtic) died in the wool Hun from Cumnock who has gone on record as saying that five minutes after he signed for Celtic he wanted out of the contract. He did everything to engineer a move out of the club and talks utter rubbish on the TV and radio.

Personally I cant stand him!

Opinions, opinions.........

RobinBhoy

In my opinion the subs yesterday were made on the clock. Mowbray would have known before hand he was going to out Keane on at half time (he's since admitted that) and likewise he would have known that Kamara was going to get about an hour.

This makes me think he's using squad rotation with our strikers, so expect Rasmussen on the bench and Fortune back in. You can argue that Rasmussen doesn't deserve to be dropped but then I think Fortune had been doing well recently.

Overhead-Kick

Charlie is anti-Celtic PLC, not anti -Celtic, there is a big difference.

Burley whilst commentating on the Hamilton game said of Rasmussen when he came on, "i don't know anything about him".

I don't expect Burley to spend time like Bill McLaren or John Motson and have a multitude of facts about every player on the pitch, I do however expect him to at least have a little knowledge about a player who was all over the press in the days leading up to the game. Even the Sky commentator yesterday had some knowledge of the Dunfermline players. Burley is an eejit, nicest thing I can say on here without being deleted.

RobinBhoy

Take your word for it - I guess there is a wrong assumption sometimes that if a player plays for Celtic then he becomes a sort of 'fan' but point taken.

BUt I enjoy his commentary and opinions.

As you say opinions are like a-holes, everybodies got one... ;)

The facts that Master Caddis, did,as you say..had a Poor Game,in yesterday's Match...and the Fact that Master McGeady, also, had a poor one.. are what they call,in the Trade..

Mutually.. Exclusive!

Besides..

Master Caddis has NOT HAD THREE POOR GEMMES... IN A ROW!

Therefore,is Still qualified to be Oan Kojo's Selectee List.

Whereas..

Master McGeady.. has Well Exceeded.. the Three Poor Gemmes in a Row
Prohibition.

Ergo...

Master McGeady is OOT of Favour.. Master Caddis..Is Still IN Favour.

I hated Henrik - far too good for Celtic :P

And as for Jinky... you got me on that one.

Dinky Diamond, good point on the blootering.

Did you watch the Merseyside derby on Saturday. Both sides got their retaliation in first, and good to see Carragher get revenge for Pienaar's shocking challenge on Mascherano by blootering the wee lad up in the air for a booking. Would have been good to see one of our team blooter Laughhurty in such a manner, although no doubt that would have warranted a red card.

Overhead-Kick, we all like Lubo.

Kojo

By that reckoning then Sammi/Boruc/NGuemo are all for the chop also.

McGeady i think will be allowed more room to roam with Morton & Robbie pulling defenders out of position.

Henrik was never Celtic class.

He was Barcelona class.

RobinBhoy -

For someone who "wanted out of the contract" within five minutes of signing, Burley certainly played a big part in stopping the Huns winning 10-in-a-row.

Whatever his comments are in his current role, I will fondly remember Burley’s effort for Celtic in that particular season.

DD

Sammi (certainly) and boruc (probably)should be dropped.

I like NGuemo - his weakness undoubtedly is giving the ball away but ask him to break play up and pass to a (nearby!) more creative teammate and he can do a decent job for us.

Brian McClair, brilliant.

Overhead_Kick at 2:49 PM

I would doubt that Burley is a Celtic fan or that he has ever been.

MON was so angry with Burley and his anti-Celtic agenda that he eventually refused to give Setanta any post match interviews.

In one of Burley's recent airings he totally ignored the events on the pitch to deliver yet another fabrication.

The gist of this was that the Celtic board had lied to TM about the size of the transfer budget and had inveigled him to CP under false pretences.

I think Paul67 is being unfair and a bit strangely emphatic about Caddis's "foul". Almost as emphatic as that tube Dougie Donnelly which I am genuinely bewildered by. Watch the cross into the penalty box aand ssualt by the Chelsea fullback on an Arsenal player from behind in the last few minutes of the game on Sunday, a far worse challenge than Caddis put in and not even discussed as a potnetial foul on MOTD2, when I would have given a pen and a yellow. The Caddis challenge would not have been a penalty in any other game this or any other weekend. As someone else said, you can always back up why the Caddis challenge "gives the ref a reason for giving a pen" but these are almost never given, fact! In fact the last one I can think of was Naylor's against AC Milan. In each case the striker was nowhere near getting on the end of the cross and made a ridiculous meal out of the challenge in a way that neither you nor I would have on a Sunday morning.

My dear,dear,dear,dear,friend... Dinky Diamond.

Agree entirely but I suspect that the incident you refer to merely shows up his lack of experience. An experienced centre-half would have taken the yellow card. We could also ask what the hell was he doing way over at the corner flag? Where was our new left-back?

Kojo

Completely agree re Samaras.

Ive now gotten to the stage where I just get angry watching him.

Cardiffbhoy - I remember Burley making the comment that he didn't know anything about Rasmusson. I thought it was an incredible comment from a football pundit who covers Scottish football. Did he not know there was a January transfer window ? Was he unaware that Celtic signed players in said window ? Isn't it his job to ensure he knows something about the players he's commenting on ? It was an arrogant comment from an arrogant twat. Another one who I wish I could airbrush out of Celtics history.

By BalhamBhoy on February 8, 2010 3:32 PM

I reckon saw the same challenge in the Chelsea v Arsenal match (ended-up with a clash of heads?) and thought exactly the same thing. It's about time that players got carded for misues of the head - Loovens has had numerous knocks and each time I think it should be punished for dangerous play.

I see we all seem to once again exonerate or simply ignore the incompetence of the "Holy Goalie"

His positioning at the first goal was criminal and when the ball hit the net he was still outside the goals. How many times this year have we seen SPL and lower league keeprs be in the right position to pull off saves against out multi million pound strikers.

At the second goal we saw a the ball floated across our six yard line - this time the blessed Artur was rooted to his goal line. Look up the other end of the park every match and see bog standard SPL and lower league keepers commmand this part of their area.

While the defence is in question the most vital key is the ability fitness and attitude of our goalkeeper. His ability has neve been in question - his attituade is rotten and has been for some time and his fitness is there for all to see

Drop him now Tony - we have a perfectly able deputy with superior fitness and attitude waiting on the bench. Before he blows our chances completely

RASMUSSEN first goal yesterday hits shot keeper saves
and reacts to stick it away.

IF it had been Samaras he

A) He would have benn still outside the box

or

B) when 1st shot was saved would have stood with his fingers
running through his hair as rebound passed him by.

NFL on CQN

I see the posts from the latter part of last night's super bowl thread have resurfaced this morning.

Like our central defence they went missing at a crucial part of the game.

I had assumed the server hamster had too long a day yesterday and finally abandoned the wheel. He had an early start for the Dunfermline game, it's aftermath and then had the Saints accomplishing second come from behind win of the day. It was obviously just too much for the wee rodent.

Talking of wee rodents prompts me to ask if the Clyde team will look on our victory as being a struggle against a lower division team while praising Rangers for their valiant draw against St Mirren.
Perhaps these draws are a way of squeezing some extra revenue from their financially astute fans? Hmmmmm

Toss the T. Sack Duffield. (Old prejudices die hard.)

'GG who's staying away from NFL or SPL predictions.

Never mind who did we all love-Danny McGrain, for one btw-how about a player who we all loved or loathed, and no in-betweens?

I'll start it off with Tommy Callaghan, who to be fair, won a good few medals with us. I mean him no disrespect on the back of that, but if you wanted to liven up a quiet trip home on a packed supporters' bus, just utter the words "I thought TC had a great/rotten game for us",and stand well back.

InternecinewarfareCSC

PS,Big Jock rated him, that should have been enough.

Anyone who thinks Craig Burley is pro-Celtic cannot watch the same games as I do. He left us under a cloud and has never got over it. He is always more than ready to undermine the Club.

None football related.

The losses suffered by HBOS as a result of the Bank of Scotland Reading fraud were, apparently, £925 million, not the circa £500 earlier reported. This comes from well-placed sources.

Yet the Financial Services Authority’s “investigation” into the scandal, even though it was formally requested by eight MPs and a Treasury minister in June 2009, looks set to be another whitewash — or perhaps part of the wider government cover-up of the real abuses at HBOS.

Jean Moorhouse, who is responsible for supervising Lloyds Banking Group at the FSA, recently admitted that, eight months after the politicians requested a thorough investigation (possibly culminating in criminal charges against the perpetrators), the FSA has yet to launch an official investigation into the BoS Reading fraud!! She has also notified some of the corporate victims that any investigation into the matter will be carried out by an unnamed third party “chosen between the FSA and the bank”.

This is anathema to the scores of directors and officers whose businesses were effected or destroyed by the fraud, several of whom have told Ms Moorhouse that they have no intention of providing their evidence to an anonymous third party. They want to assist the FSA but not if it behaves in this ridiculously clandestine way — at the very least, they require to know the third party’s identity before deciding whether to hand over their roomfulls of evidence.

In a recent email copied to Hector Sants, chief executive of the FSA, Brian Basham, a former non-executive director of Mezzanine Group, said:

“I am not happy for the evidence to be passed on to an unidentified third party. That’s only because it seems silly for the FSA to refuse to reveal who they are using. It could well be one of those sleazy operators with which the investigators business is infested and who knows to what use they might put any evidence they receive?”

There is speculation that the FSA is outsourcing the project to Bank of Scotland’s former auditors Ernst & Young. If true, this would be absurd and totally undermine its integrity.

The ‘big four’ accountancy firm is heavily conflicted, having secured a major consultancy contract from Lloyds Banking Group last year to oversee the integration of Lloyds and HBOS’s IT systems. If E&Y is leading the investigation, the investigation is bound to be partisan and biassed towards miscreant bankers. Is this the seriousness with which financial crime is treated by the authorities in this country?

However, there are some chinks of light amid the gloom. Dan Watkins and Jo Dawson — the only HBOS board directors to be given berths at Lloyds after its rescue takeover of HBOS in September 2008 — have today resigned from their senior management positions at Lloyds Banking Group. Irrespective of whether the pair was defenestrated, one ought to read a lot into their departures.

The resignations of Dawson and Watkins — who purportedly oversaw “risk management” at HBOS in its latter years (some joke, surely?!) — may well be connected to the desire of Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling to “take some scalps” in the banking sector in the weeks ahead of the election.

There has been talk that their departures presage an imminent announcement from the FSA confirming that — as is already crystal clear to anyone who follows such things — HBOS’s former board of directors pulled the wool over investors’ eyes about the plight of their bank in June 2008 — and maybe also deliberately misled the board of Lloyds TSB and the British government.

Wouldn’t that be a wonderful smokescreen for No 10?!

My dear,dear,dear,dear,friend..The Long wait is over.

Burley is fairly consistent in his current role in that he talks garbage regardless of who he covers - but he's in good company as they all do that.

I agree he might be bitter about his exit, in fact I know he's on record as saying he regretted leaving Celtic, and in that respect he is the same as Nicholas and McLeod. They are bitter towards the club and they are unable to hide it.

From the fellow who told you Caddis was the right man, I bring you the best defensive mid-fielder in Scotland, Charlie Grant of Bhoystown. Go on Tony it’s easy, you know he’s better than Broonie, 'cause you see it in training every day!
Just play what you see.

Re Josh Thompson being nutmegged....so what, I can fully imagine Rio Ferndinand being done exactly the same way if pulled out into that position, it's just one of those things and more likely if you haven't got legs like tree trunks. I think it's impressive he was there so quicklly to cover in the first place, the nutmeg was a bit lucky as any winger (like myself) knows, they come off 1/5. No blame attached to being done like that every now and then. For me, Josh wins headers (Hallelujah!), is very composed for a young fellow and will do us very well in the SPL. I know pace has been mentioned before and only time (and possbibly Euro competition) will tell us if he's up to tha particularly challenge but I haven't noticed a Caldwell style sluggishness (deos he run in treacle) to react so far. I'd cut this kid some slack, he gives me confidence.....ok, that little piece of mine is clearly a hostage to fortune but i've got faith in the big man!

Tommy Callaghan was a lovely left footed football player but more often than not he was made the scapegoat for any perceived mistakes by the team. For whatever reason, a fair percentage of the support never warmed to him (maybe like a lot of the support to Crosas today).

aiden o`fovit,
There was a charity game on New Kilbowie Park and while walking along Dumbarton Road I was asked for directions by Jim Brogan who had stopped his car. As I proceeded to tell him he interjected with, `I haven`t got all day`. What a very, very rude man!
To think I had missed my chance to boo him when I stood in the Jungle! :-)

Henriks Sombrero @3.39

I would assume craig burley meant he nothing of Rasmussen as a player not that he didn't know we had signed him. So you would like to airbrush him out of our history that would then eliminate the 15 or so goals he scored to stop 10 in a row. You may not like him but he was one of the main reasons we won the league that year like it or not.

steinreignedsupreme:

I think with the players we now have that Sami should not be a first choice pick.

However, he seems to attract a great deal of animosity, & the cheer when he was hooked at the Hibs game was i thought downright embarassing.

His goalscoring record is decent, & he is by no means simply an out & out goalscorer.

He does not deserve to be vilified, & has a role to play in our team, even if not, whilst we have Keane & Kamara, necessarily being a first 11 player.

I can exclusively reveal to all our loyal -sorry regular - readers who the mystery new buyer for Rangers is and why its taking a little while to sort out.

sorry to interject and at the same time disagree.

but Burley, Mc Leod and Nicholas are all Old Firm men 1st and foremost.

Burley and Mc Leod have the excuse that they were Rangers supporters as boys. I put Davie Provan in that bracket as well.

Charlie Nichloas does not have that excuse although I have noticed a softening of his stance these last two months. Maybe he has had the chance to reflect on his childhood and what it brought him in his life. A return to his roots for Charlie ? Possibly but I think it´s far too late.

John Hartson is in danger of going the same way. His TV pundit role I can just about swallow. His contributions to The Sun are hideous and the lad better be careful if he values his Celtic legend status.

The bottom line though is that none of them add anything to the debate.

Even the folks on Sky News said it was a "very, very soft" penalty award.

I wouldn't expect to get a free kick on the half way line for that never mind a penalty. Now I know what all these commentators and pundits mean when they say "I've seen them given". They mean they've watched a Celtic game on the telly refereed by an official of the SFA.

Levein goes Cap In Hand to Irish Starlet and Begs For Forgiveness

Wigan's James McCarthy has been urged not to be swayed by others in deciding whether to remain with the Republic of Ireland or switch to Scotland.

Club manager Roberto Martinez says the Glasgow-born 19-year-old must listen to his heart after being approached by new Scotland coach Craig Levein.

"I spoke to James and told him he should not listen to anybody," Martinez told BBC Sport.

"You need to listen to your feeling about where you want to be playing."

McCarthy has played five times for the Republic's Under-21s having qualified for them through a Donegal-born grandfather.

He has also become a first-team regular in recent weeks for Wigan following his £1.2m summer move from Hamilton Academical.

And Levein, who has launched a search for new talent with Scottish connections, made a fresh attempt to persuade the midfielder to switch allegiances before a likely first senior appearance confirms his future with Ireland.

But Levein last week reported that he "didn't receive any encouragement" on that front from the player who previously rejected an approach from Scotland in 2008.

"It is important for any player as representing your country is probably where you are going to be achieving your biggest memories of your career going into World Cups or European Championships," said Martinez.

"But I have said to James he needs to make his own decision.

"The moment you allow people to influence your decision, you are going to make a wrong decision."

McCarthy's choice led to media criticism and chanting from rival fans while playing in the Scottish Premier League for Hamilton, whose manager, Billy Reid criticised the Scotland set-up for failing to choose the midfielder at youth level.

"He is playing for the Under-21s for Republic of Ireland and he has a clear idea of that at the moment," said Martinez.

"He has played in Scotland for many years, so he understands the football feeling around that country, so I am sure James will come up with the right decision

"I think he should not listen to anyone; maybe his mum and maybe his environment.

"But I know that in Scotland they made a huge meal out of it and they let him know how they felt when he chose Republic of Ireland and that could make a bearing on his decision.

"But James is a very mature boy. He is an impressive character and, if he listens to his feeling, he will make the right decision."

Given that it was Broonie's first game back after a long injury, don't you think its a bit harsh to judge him as not good enough to play for the rest of the season based on his performance against Dunfermline?

Tommy Callaghan. Oh Dear.

In his final season enough was enough. My Dad, Grandad, 3 Uncles and 4 cousins used to wait outside Celtic Park until the team was announced. If TC was in the team, which he was more often than not, we went back home. I was only 14 or 15 at the time but as far as I remember, the playing surface wasn't long enough for him. He'd reach the running track before deciding to cross the ball.

Craig Burley probably has a right to be bitter about the way he left Celtic, basically it was John Barnes that forced him out because Burley felt Barnes wasn't up to it as a manager.
Any complaints about that point of view?
He went to Derby, got a bad injury and that was basically that.
Meanwhile Barnes got the bullet, MON came in and the players that Burley had been playing with suddenly found themselves awash with medals and cups.
Now obviously there are a few ifs and buts to discuss but the way the circumstances played out must have been galling to him.
As for his feelings towards Celtic I don't think you can say he gave anything less than 100% for us, scored some excellent and crucial goals, I don't think he's especially terrible, nowhere near the Nicholas or Boothe category, although I do think he's a better analyst when talking about the EPL.
As for his background, I have no doubt he was a hun as a youth, I think he was at school with Billy Dodds, but if we're going to start with that then how do we rate people like Murdo, Davie Provan, Danny, Willie Wallace (season ticket at Ibrox as a kid), Ronnie Simpson (dad played for them)? After all does anyone here think that Le Petit Merde is still a Celtic man because he went to the Jungle as a boy?

I don't think its a ridiculous point to suggest both Murdo and Charlie left employment with Celtic under a cloud and therefore there is the possibility at least that this may taint their views.

Jock Brown, in his autobiography paints a very bad picture of Murdo's later day role at the club in particular. As for Charlie, he is a regular attacker of the PLC with the usual "must spend more money" tosh

Saw a few comments earlier on Robert Duvall, Jinky and that film he made with McCoist etc. Have to tell you about the time I saw Duvall around the time they were filming that movie (1998 or 99?).

A group of friends and myself were heading to a party one night in Airdrie and we had arranged to meet each other just outside Airdrie sports centre as the party was just a ten minute walk from there. At that time the Airdrie players used to train on the pitches beside the sports centre and as it turned out, there was to be a few Airdrie players starring in this film with Duvall.

Anyways, my mates and I are waiting anxiously for the others to arrive as we were all 17 years old, therefore underage and standing there with our carry oots. I spy two guys coming out of the sports centre, one I recognise as Peter 'Silky' Hetherston the Airdrie player at the time and someone who looked liked Robert Duvall. Only as they got closer, I realise it is actually bloody Robert Duvall, here in the middle of AIRDRIE!!!

With The Godfather films being my all time faves, I'm totally starstruck seeing Tom Hagen standing there just yards away so I give my mate a nudge and said 'look who that is over there?'. Problem is, the mate I nudged is a big Airdrie fan and he says 'F****** hell its Silky!' at which point me and the rest of the lads crack up laughing and tell him the other guy is a Hollywood legend with an Oscar!

Duvall just walks by and smiles at us all standing there with carrier bags full of beer.

Just thought I'd share that with ye's.

Hail! Hail!

p.s we still give our mate a hard time for his Silky comment :-)

IANINASCOLI 359

It obviously wisnae you I was standing beside then all that time!
He had a difficult job taking over from Tommy Gemmell,AND IF WE'D KNOWN THAT NEARLY 40 YEARS LATER WE WERE STILL LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT?! But,yes, you're right,he's on the list!

PARKHEADCUMSALFORD 357

You're playing a blinder, mate. Crosas divides the masses for sure. BTW,is the Maypole still open? What a ball/wake we had in there on RV night. Put a bit of gloss on an otherwise dross episode.

viewfaethewindae,

Charlie Grant is now 23. A year older than Crosas, and 2 years older than Ki.

I'm aware that he's been blighted by a few serious injuries over the years, but I am surprised that a player who has been talked-up for 5 or 6 years doesn't even have a handful of first-team appearances to his name - particularly given the generally mediocre midfield we've had to endure.

Statistics can mean nothing - just ask BTM

Just a reminder that Sammi samster Samaras is our clubs top scorer.

Not saying that he deserves to start on Wednesday btw

And it hurts me that Kenny Miller!!! is currently higher up the scoring charts than ANY Celtic player this season.

Things must be bad - but hopefully we will go on an all guns blazing ransacking of goals in the SPL for next 15 games.

Wishful Thinking

HH

AndyM,

He should stick to International commentaries.

When he called the players too thick and not good enough he was just being an honest reporter. It had nothing to do with Uncle George.

Is Craig a member of the Scotland withdrawal hall of fame ?

Kojo:

I think the point you made earlier about Fortune also applies to Samaras. Neither of them is the worst player to ever wear a Celtic shirt, but neither of them fits in with the quick , breaking football we are starting to see from Tony Mowbray and it was really obvious against Dunfermline. Samaras is too lackadaisical, slows things up and is not direct enough for the type of game others in the team are trying to play. Fortune could adapt to fit the style of play and both McGinn and McCourt could be comfortable with it but I dont think Samaras is capable of adapting, from what I have seen.

So Craig Levein has been outed as a Raith Rovers fan,...so that makes two of them then!

Bundesliga model just the ticket

The annual report of the Bundesliga makes a reassuring read. The English elite division may be a den of profligacy, greed, debt and exploitation — and that is just to consider Manchester United and Portsmouth — but the Germans exude prudence and care.

The total debt of all 36 clubs, including those of Bundesliga 2, is about £600 million, a figure that dismayed United supporters will recognise as being £125 million short of their club’s burden. Not that the Germans are especially proud of it. Their crowing is confined to a little table showing their admission prices to be the lowest among the top five divisions in Europe.

Guess whose stadiums are the most expensive to enter. Correct: it costs £37.30 on average to watch the Barclays Premier League. The Bundesliga charges less than half that. Some would consider it about half as entertaining, but an average attendance of 41,904, compared with the Premier League’s 35,592, suggests that the Germans must be doing something right.

This is not to deny that some of their administrators feel overregulated, hemmed in by a variety of restrictions such as the one dictating that every minute of every match played by the national team — home or away — must be shown live on free-to-view television. But I’d like to level up the playing field by having the same thing here.

Meanwhile, it is reported that the Premier League’s next television deal is expected to raise more than £1 billion a year, or £50 million a club. How exciting! Even more money to waste on players’ wages and agents’ commissions, and, as debts soar, fees and interest charges to accountants and bankers.

The only hope of an end to this abuse of capitalism resides in Uefa’s efforts to devise a system under which book-balancing is a prerequisite for participation in European competition. I will believe this when I see it. At present, ideas are being shuffled around in private and anyone who has studied football administration can be confident they will be bad ones. It would be far simpler if every club joined the Bundesliga.

Kojo on February 8, 2010 3:15 PM

There's a small but crucial difference between Caddis and McGeady. Caddis is not good enough for Celtic whereas McGeady, who is admittedly going through a period when his form has dipped,(it happens to the best of them) is the best football player in Scotland by a country mile.

I agree with most of your comments gerry_boy 12.49

But.."N'Guemo won tackles and was tidy". Maybe so.
BUT...Am I the only ghuy who saw him make 4 Diabolical poor passes, which went straight to a Dunfermline player. I think some need to take the Green tinted glasses off when praising him to the high heavens. He needs to improve like most of the Team if we are gonna be contenders.

I've got a feeling Rasmussan is gonna be a key to Celtics future, like Larsson. (I include keano if he decides to stay)

As for the penalty against us, I reckon Caddis tickled him and he fell over laughing. Advice for caddis... use a feather next time and tickle him till his ribs crack.

larsson4me

I do agree regarding N'Guemo.Inconsistent.

Also I know its not what he is there for primarily , but his shooting is appalling

My dear,dear,dear,dear,friend..A ViewFartheWindae.

Pal.. I thoroughly agree with you in your stated opinions regarding the outstanding Potential and Worth of Messrs. Charlie Grant and Paul Caddis..I must mention the fact that my admiration for Master Caddis, is based on his Worth as a MID FIELDER..not as
Full Back...

Anyway..

On another Matter.

Everyone knows that I have, IN THE PAST, Held... a deep, deep, dislike of the Type of Performances, which I had witnessed, and which were being consistently Turned in.. By Master Broon.

That distain,is well known to my Readers.

Howevahhhhhhh...

My thoughts on any player..can.. and will.. turn oan the Proverbial.. if..

That Player, does the one thing,of which, I am Delighted to see.

Namely...

If the Player Shows an Improvement..even, if that Improvement be an Insignificant, one..or..if ye prefer.. even,if that Improvement,is insignificant.

As LONG AS IT IS MAINTAINED..albeit, Gradually.

Improvement, in a Player's Over All Form.. is the Key to My Approval.

Simple.. but, Not so easily done...

Anyway... to return to oor Man in the Box.. Master Broon.

I did actually... See the first Glimmerings of an IMPROVEMENT in this young Man's Attitude.. which, In the Past has been a Stumbling Block, in gaining my approval.

I did not expect a great Physical Performance from Mr.Brown..

For All of the Obvious Reasons.

Nonetheless..the subtle Change in his Attitude, MENTALLY..has won a few plaudits from , yours truly..which is no much to go on.. but is Soitenly a Nice Start..

A Promise of Betterment, in the over all play of Mr.Brown.
I hope shall follow.

In summation..

I give Mr.Brown, a Pass oan his, First Come Back, outing.

I shall be watching to see if He has Turned ovah a New leaf, in
respect, to some other parts of his over all Playing Performance, those of which I had ..formerly.. so disapproved.

I am more that willing to give Mr. Brown the Time he needs,
to win Me over .. or.. continue, to drive me away.

Time will tell.

I certainly agree that there is s huge difference between Caddis & McGeady. Caddis is a decent player but never good enough to hold down a place at parkhead, & the notion that he should displace Hinkel is i feel a very strange one.

However, is Aiden really the best football player in Scotland?

I suppose it comes down to how you define the best player.

It seems to me that he is the most individually talented, but that is some way from being the most effective.

I am not sure that we will see all that much of Aiden for the rest of the year, at least as a starting 11 player, especially if Tony goes with a 4 3 3.

I see John Hartson and Davie Provan are now being potentially added to the anti-celtic pundit brigade. i can only assume these people have some form of mental illness that makes people see any adverse comment about Celtic from a pundit as proof they have an agenda against the club. When often the self same people make vitriolic crticism and personal abuse of players (Caldwell, McManus, Samaras etc)that is a disgrace.

I see we're also going down the potentially sinister, Celtic minded line, with Murdo, Davie not being Celtic supporters when they were younger therefore they can't be real celtic men. I'm talking about you aw naw @ 4.10 pm. your comments are a disgrace.

On a slightly different matter; anyone who thinks Charlie Grant, a person who has never played a first team game for the club and has been injured for 3 years, should be playing instead of Scott Brown is, and I'm not a doctor or nurse so don't know the correct medical term, a complete and utter lunatic.

TTT can I get on the football tipping? Can't be any worse than some I won't mention.

I don't have a problem with ex-players criticising Celtic (the player, board or fans). But with Burley there is something that sticks in my throat. A good example of it was McGeady's red card at Easter road. You could tell from his intial reaction he thought it was a ridiculous decision (I still do), he sounded very unsure of himself. But when he felt that the pictures proved that McGeady had dived he took great pleasure at every opportunity to call him cheat...he was enjoying it. I don't care who a pundit played for or who he supported as a boy, I just want them to be impartial and Burley is anything but that.

bennyblanco
You know you made a statement recently about Paddy McCourt, you said" not good enough, released by Rochdale, says it all really", this after his very decent performances this season when he's had a chance. Reading that at that time, no offence but let's say I didn't think too much of your opinions but I totally agree 100% with your last post. We are too quick to stick the boot into fellow Celts that dare utter criticisms about our club.

Any news or thoughts on the next steps for TFOD?

The fact that all the discussion revolves around the £31mill debt figure suggests that TBG may be getting a bit creative.

If £31mill really is the figure everyone is dancing around, where does that leave SDM / MIH regarding their ownership of the TFOD?

MIH = 90% owners of TFOD.
MIH balance sheet includes the inflated values of Ibrox and MP.
If MIH sells TFOD for littel or nothing over and above the debt ten the MIH balance sheet will take a very big hit.

MIH's balance sheet takes a big hit on top of current trading conditions and commercial property valuations then MIH is burst.

MIH is burst then tghe LBG balance sheet is then under pressure. Fire sale of MIH would struggle to cover 50% of their bank debts.

How then does LBG get rid of TFOD and gert their money back?
Talk on KDS seemingly from the more lucid Hun websites has all the action surrounding the football club.

LBG splits the TFOD into two parts, football club and peoperty company.

Football takes on the debt and pays rent on the stadium MIH Sporting Property (BigotDome) PLC.

Issues then are what property values of TFOD does MIH have on its balance sheet?

£100mill and the rent would be £6millpa?
£135mill and the rent would be £8millpa?

Could a rent holiday, 6 months be used as a sweetener?

TFOD anuual T/O = £40mill excluding CL / EuL?
Hamstrung from day 1?

Finally some snippits on the debt:

1) Two parts - Overdraft (£9mill) + Bank debt (£22mill)
Figures good for June 2009 before the CL money comes through.

Bank debt has to be paid back in 3 stages -- June 2010 / June 2012 / ???
Overdraft is being reduced by £1mill pa.

Consequently things will be tight in June 2010 as WS mentioned fortuitously last Wed. The PM deal suggests that every penny is worth saving. Cashflow really is king.

Any thoughts on TFOD's cash position excluding CL money this season?
Still cash negative and this is why DM (not SDM) is cutting back for dear life?

With all these issues on tyhe go just how much moonshine is the bid talk that has reached the papers?
As always the points above are gossip, Q+D analysis, pure speculation.
As ever any news on this would be appreciated.

"McGeady, is the best football player in Scotland by a country mile."

I'm afraid that I disagree with this statement. Without the ability to shoot or cross his dribbling skills matter not a jot. Until he learns that part of his game, Kamara will get the nod.

Raymac,

generally it has been more or less the same 8 couponeers since the start of the season - however Jobo has joined in recently due to Bradford Bhoy dropping out - and we all stick a team in and bet on the accu or perm them.
We have a wee competition going I believe hence EN's table of success.

But there is nothing to say you canny put in a selection mate, it would just be that you would be ineligible for that.

Feel free to stick your tuppence in I would say.

Pal.. It is well known that I am an Admirer of Paul Caddis..

and it must be pointed out that Paul,is a Young Player who has had very limited FIRST TEAM EXPERIENCE...As A.. STARTER!

The word STARTER,is a very,very Signicant Factor,that must be
considered, well, before One should offer a Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down ,as to this Young Man's Worth as a Celtic Player.

On the Other Hand..

Master McGeady, has had a Plethora of FIRST TEAM STARTS..

He has had, in fact..A WORLD of First Class , Experience, which he has accrued, by playing against FIRST CLASS PROFESSIONALS...Experience, which DWARFS, anything to which Master Caddis, has been exposed.

Being aware of those factors..

I have never, never, never ever.. COMPARED.. the Worth to the Team of Master Caddis, to the Worth to the Team Of Master McGeady...

I may be Nuts.. but Ah am No Daft!!

No matter how ye put it,pal..

Master McGeady, has not the Slightest Excuse to be still turning in.. Juvenile Performances..

Howevahh...

Master Caddis.. DOES!

Master McGeady, is playing like Novice.

His Passing is Woeful. His Contribution to the over all performance of the Team is far below par, for a Player of his
vast experience and Talents.

He is Not Playing up to the Standard that he is expected.

He has suffered a dismal dip in Form..

So..

I believe I have every reason to suggest that

Master McGeady should be DROPPED FROM THE TEAM.

This stuff about, every Player has at sometime a Drop in Form..

Is True.

But,is Completely .. Irrelevant.

Master McGeady, has Turned in THREE OR MORE SUCCESSIVELY Poor Displays..

Therefore..

He More than Qualifies to be Dropped from the Team.

The thing about Scottish Football punditry is that before long you toe the party line just to stay in a job, as evidenced by practically every ex celt pundit with two notable exceptions, Big Billy and Davie Hay.

Murdo has a chip on his shoulder cause he didnt get the step up once Wim Jansen went.

Burley is just wrong........

Charlie, well lets just say all his brains are in his feet.

Hartson is starting to toe the party line too.

Ask yourself this, are those pundits from the Darkside as vociferous, Condescending and critical to the point of ridicule.

I think you know the answer to that.

btw you come across as that in most of your posts. Are you having a tough menstruation cycle today ? Have you tried Nurofen super ?

as for John Hartson column in The Sun I am sorry I should have said that for the sake of money grabbing his Celtic legend status is up for grabs he could lose it. Like Nicholas and Provan and Mojo.

Needless to say I stand by my assertions. BBJ has it in for BTM as he kicked him out the game finally for being a "clapped out" has been. Many a time BBJ drew a large wage and could only waddle. Kettle Black etc.

Madmitch,

MHL & LLoyds are hoping to see an upturn in the property market before any big decisions will be made.

Have you heard of the 'Delay and Pray' tactic ?

I think though that unless PPG start to sell and sell well. Wont Happen. Then there will be a fire sale of everything that is in the MHL group. It will effectively be asset stripped and that will start happening once MHL comes clean.

I asked Barcabhoy about a month ago if he would know if everything is above board as far as MHL is concerned and that Sir Skinty will not be going to jail ? but I cant remember if he answered. I do believe that as well as tidying the books. Sir Skinty has some very big holes to fill before he can come clean to the world.

Hail Hail

Bixton Celt, is there a pub in Brixton where you go to watch the big games?

Just moved to the area.

Only had time to watch the first half of yesterday's game.

Two things stick out -

1 I remember reading a feature in some sports magazine yonks ago, wher a journo would attempt to con people (fans, scouts etc) in any given sport that he was a bona fide player. For his stint as a footballer, he was given this advice: "As soon as you get the ball, pass it to a teammate. Don't try ANYTHING else!" Without wising to be unkind, this was how Scott Brown played. Only three pieces of genuine involvement from him. Doesn't mean I think he played badly, but it's a bit odd for such a terrier-like player.

2 Crosas was easily the best player on the park. Cue inevitable substitution.

madmitch,

also you shouldn´t forget that Alistair Johnson stated at the AGM that the arrangement they have with Lloyds whereby they pay only 1m a year back runs until 2010.

The CL money will just block - nay cover some financial holes. Even after that injection of cash they will still be 31m+ in debt and that´s just hun plc.

So once the famously part time Rangers support depart on the summer hols having been given the treble and thinking all is Rosy. It´s not. That´s what Cardihun was trying to tell them. The nation having dieted solely on denial for so long cant quite grasp it. Cardihun knows what the summer plans are. There are no summer plans.

Every Rangers player will either be sold or paid off along with Ibrox stadium to a prospective new buyer. The new buyer will be an Andy Cameron or Gordon Ramsey. figure i.e a serious candidate with proven expertise in throwing money away. The new buyers will get Ibrox ... and might be able to afford Kirk Broadfoots wages and possibly the broxi bear costume.

to the people on getting on Aiden's back for recent performances, just remember that he was carrying this team for weeks before recenty poor displays. For a wide midfield player, Aiden is more consistent than the rest of our players put toegther.

I agree that he has to improve on his decision making, final ball and shooting. These aspects of his game can at times make him the most frustrating player to watch in the history of Celtic.

However, 3 or 4 years ago we were saying he needed to add speed and strength to his play. He did this. He has also slightly improved in the past couple of years on the things he has been taking stick for, such as his final ball. E.g. Maradona turn and perfectly weighted cross for McDonald to score against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Hopefully, WITH OUR BACKING AND SUPPORT, Aiden McGeady will continue to improve his game.

Hail Hail

Now Hartson's getting it, permarage is alive and well on CQN

Centenary Bhoy - you are right about Aiden. He has had a few poor games but I think Celtic would lose something special if he wasn't with us. He is a home grown, died-in-the-wool Celt who can entertain the crowd. Time was when that was lauded.

Yes he has flaws, he doesn't really get his head up often enough, but he is still a young enough man to have his best years ahead of him. I for one hope we see those years at Celtic.

roberttressell

Spot on. We don't want to lose more players who know what Celtic is all about. I'm a firm believer that bringing in players foreign players and showing them what Celtic is about can be just as refreshing as having home grown players, but we still need to have these players around who know what the club is about.

Players like Aiden don't come about very often. He loves the club and its there to see that he hurts like us when we get beat.

He is also one of the players that 'wows' the crowd and one of the reasons that more supporters haven't chucked their season tickets.

Mind you some of them are that scrawny you just give to the dog to chew on. You should know that. lucky escape I bet :-)

As a taxi driver in Motherwell i pick up some interesting people. Recently i got a guy who's wife is employed by price waterhouse coopers. Apparently Murray and rankers are in so much financial distress that something has got to give soon. However im hearing a rumour today in a well known Hoops bar. The Brandy Bar in Shotts.A source tells me that rankers were only days from administration. We'll wait and see.

roberttressell,

I have never stopped believing mate.
They WILL drop points, and quite a few, due to their squad being knackered etc. The more replays etc they have the better.

Don't get me wrong, as I have said before, under Smith they are the masters of grinding our results, but they are under pressure already and will be feeling it and at times like that the wee knocks/strains etc always seem worse than they actually are and take longer to heal.

But every game we win adds to that already increasing pressure.
Thats why I will accept any win just now regardless of how we achieve it, although like all celtic supporters I would prefer it to be won by playing beautiful inventive football :-)

I'm hoping wee Craigy can have Murderwell at the top of their game and make it very difficult for them.

Hope springs eternal in this Bhoy.

glad you were listening to me on snyde martin/mcguire says the bank didnt follow rules by telling stock exchange and fatboy says regardless of stock exchange rules there was a bid

you couldnt make it up!!

Can't really see a 7-1 or anything remotely approaching that against Hertz on weds. However, if somebody offered me 2-0 now I'd grab their hand off because I fancy Well to get something against the Hunz. I don't actually think that in the final analysis, goal difference will come into play. We will either overhaul their points tally or we won't.
So with a bit of luck we will be back to only 8 points behind and it will get a bit closer to squeaky bum time at the Death Star.

KTF

RobertRessell, Token tim - sorry to be a party-pooper but -

Unfortunately the huns don't seem to drop many points. The Hearts 1-1 game was the only one apart from the Glasgow Derby that they've not won in the SPL since late November.

I honestly think this site might be better served by what I term 'cautious pessimism'. Hopes are raised so high before fixtures and when the result doesn't go in that particular direction, this blog is not a pleasant place to be. Realistically, the chances of them slipping up combined with us having a near 100% record are slim.

Anyway, there was a recent psycholgival article I read somewhere that stated that pessimists have better mental health because they are more emotionally robust to deal with disappointment. If anyone's interested (which they probably won't based on my posts :-) ), I'll try to find it.

Fair enough, one opinion to another. I just think that he has been the only player last year (as well as Naka) and this year that could produce something out of nothing and properly drive us on and create something when things were not going our way.

Even when he has bad games, he doesn't hide. He constantly demands the ball and this is sometimes misconstrued as being greedy and wanting to do it all himself. At times he does pick the wrong option, and this is possibly because he "thinks he carries the team" but more likely because he believes in his ability and wants to produce for Celtic.

Could it be a coincidence after Smith's comments last Wednesday that the Orcs turned in an abject display at St Mirren. Perhaps it is now dawning on even the players, that the majority of them will not be there next season even if they win the league?

grabbingatstrawscsc

These are the questions that Rangers fans want answered by Lloyds man on the Rangers Board. They are going to protest about it. It seems a desperate act of a desperate group. They have no hope of getting any answers and they have no hope of making things better even if they do. They are hilariously stupid. I have added my answer to all their questions at the bottom. It is very succint but totally accurate. For any passing hun, save your self the bother of going to the 'protest'

From Fascist Fascist:

• Have contracts been offered to key players, for example Kris Boyd?
• Have any contract offers been subsequently altered or blocked by Mr Muir?
• What are Mr Muir's exact responsibilities on the Rangers Board and does he have the ability to overrule the decisions of other directors?
• Does Martin Bain have to clear any decisions with Mr Muir?
• Did Walter Smith have the option of reinvesting the funds generated by the sale of Pedro Mendes and the release of Jerome Rothen?
• Were any requests for new players, either purchased or on loan, during the recent transfer window blocked by any or all of the Rangers Board? If so, who made this decision?
• Has an informal offer for the club been made? And if so on what grounds was it deemed unacceptable?
• Who is making any decision in respect of the selling price of the club and whether any offer for the club is accepted or rejected?
• Are Lloyds TSB insisting on full repayment of the debt prior to the club being sold?
• Is there an ongoing issue with Sir David Murray and his share-holding in the club?
• Does Mr. Murray have any input on the sale of our club?

MY ANSWER: Listen guys, you are skint, you owe a lot of people a lot of money. In fact you owe a tax payer funded institution a helluva lot of money. You cannot go buying players, reinvesting funds raised from sales, or even the sale of pies for that matter. You have to pay for the excesses and successes of years gone by. You never asked questions then, you didn't protest against the profligacy of the board at that time, so get tae.... no money - no funny.

PS - All your best players are getting sold in the summer too. So there. Lots of love, the Tax Payer.

Gordon_J,

You start and I will finish it. BTW on CQN I always have.

If you want to blame my Granny on that as she´s responsible for that part of my education Phd from the University of Craigneuk then feel free to do so.

I know that I am more erudite than those that take the cheap nasty shots. That´s what makes me think Mmmhhhhh they didn´t have the same education as me. Shooting goldfish in a bowl. That should not allow you to have a go at me instead of attacking the source of the problem? As you say not me ? surely to goodness ?

IMO those that initiated it took it to a whole new level. That you are unable to see that I consider as being your problem not mine.

BBC Rangers going into overdrive

Inverness heroes remember the 2000 victory over Celtic

By Stevie Miller

Inverness stunned Celtic in the 2000 Scottish Cup
Inverness pulled off an amazing Scottish Cup shock 10 years ago

Ten years ago on Monday, one of the most seismic results in Scottish Cup history took place as First Division Inverness Caledonian Thistle dumped Celtic out of the Scottish Cup 3-1 in Glasgow.

The Highland side - formed from the controversial merger of Inverness Caledonian and Inverness Thistle only six years before - were still part-time as they knocked out the Glasgow giants.

The omens for Celtic were not good, with the original fixture, scheduled for 29 January, postponed after winds of up to 60 mph tore some of the roof from the Lisbon Lions stand at Celtic Park.

Celtic, like they do currently, were trailing rivals Rangers in the league by 10 points, with pressure mounting on manager John Barnes.

That pressure only increased when the visitors took the lead inside 20 minutes on a sleet-lashed February evening.

Young striker Mark Burchill levelled the scores, but a Lubomir Moravcik own goal put Caley Thistle back in front.

Things got worse for Celtic at half-time as an argument erupted in the dressing-room, with top scorer Mark Viduka not appearing for the second-half, and a second-half Paul Sheerin penalty completed a comprehensive victory for the visitors.

Inverness's manager at the time, Steve Paterson, looks back on the match fondly.

"I'm really proud to have been manager of Inverness when arguably one of the biggest shocks in the history of the Scottish Cup happened," he told BBC Scotland.

"I went in with a kind of quiet optimism.

"I knew I had a special team that was capable of playing some very good football that had a lot of self-belief and a lot of talent.

MY SPORT: DEBATE
Share your memories (good & bad) of that night at Celtic Park

"There was a lot of leadership in the ranks and I went there thinking that we could definitely give a good account, but I didn't really consider a victory.

"To go there and win comprehensively was amazing.

"One of my abiding memories was the spontaneous linking of my hands and running to our supporters, which was totally unrehearsed and just a beautiful moment in terms of symbolising the unified way the players had been that night."

Lifelong Celtic fan - and former Hoops player - Charlie Christie was named man-of-the-match that night and thinks victory in Glasgow gave the Highlanders a huge psychological boost.

"It was probably the best night of my life to be honest," he said. It was a fantastic night for the club as a whole.

"I think it put Inverness Caley Thistle on the map and a lot of our success after stemmed from that night in my mind."
Inverness Caledonian Thistle celebrate
Inverness CT manager Steve Paterson celebrates victory over Celtic

Christie recalled that the Inverness players felt Celtic were showing signs of weakness ahead of the match.

"They'd been beaten by Hearts 3-2 on the Saturday and John Barnes wasn't exactly covering himself in glory to be fair," he said.

"There was talk of a regime change at Celtic at that time and Caley Thistle took full advantage."

Forward Barry Wilson, now playing for Peterhead, scored the first goal for the part-timers.

"It's something that will always be there as a special night," said the 37-year-old.

"We had bigger ones with winning the leagues with this club. But, as a one-off, to put the club on the map, it was a special night."

Wilson also recalled the celebration in front of the travelling fans.

"We probably milked it, but if ever there was a night to be milked that was it," he said.

"Unrehearsed as it was, it was just a case of 10-15 boys enjoying themselves and going with the flow."

For Caley, it remains a defining moment - the moment their new club came of age and served notice that a team from the Highlands could compete at the top level.

For Celtic, it marked the end of the Barnes era - two days later, the former England international was sacked, to be replaced four months later with Martin O'Neill.

awe naw,MIH Commercial Property??

2010 INVESTMENT DEATH-TRAP #3:
Don’t be tempted back into commercial property… yet

Don’t touch this sector in 2010

Now this is another ‘bargain’ property investment that’s getting a lot of attention at the moment. And you can see why…

Any market that’s fallen by as much as 45% – which is what UK commercial property prices did between June 2007 and July 2009 – has to be worth a look. Particularly as there have been signs recently that the sector is coming back to life…

For example, commercial property prices rose 1.9% in the month to October 2009 – the biggest gain since December 2005 and the third straight monthly increase.

But you don’t have to search far to find major reasons to steer clear of commercial property… for now:

DANGER SIGN #1: UK institutions have actually continued to be net SELLERS of UK commercial property, dumping £128 million-worth more than they bought in the second quarter of 2009.

DANGER SIGN #2: Overall rental levels are still falling, dropping 0.5% in August.

And most important of all, there’s the threat posed by rising unemployment.

Unemployment stands at 8% already. If it hits 10% as has been widely predicted, it will mean less demand for office and factory space, and less spending in the shops. More tenants will go bust. That will cut demand for property, and will lead to further falls in rents.

In the circumstances our advice is simple. If you’re thinking of sinking money into commercial property schemes, don’t do it yet.

RobertRessell

maybe our luck may be changing. A scrappy goal plus an og and penalty. On the radio when Sammi hit the bar, I thought 'Here we go again' but we scored a few seconds later.

I reckon Sammi in fairness has had rotten luck and has an uncanny knack for hitting the woodwork or drawing out superhuman saves from keepers this season.

Rangers will drop points. Of that I have no doubt.

Both Celtic and Rangers in recent years have stuttered and stumbled across the finishing line or been gazumped on the final day.

So I think there is something psychological about being so far in front which affects the players on the park and starts to effect results. (See: Celtic from last season?)

What needs to happen is for Celtic to win win win - and that is the only thing we need to focus on for now.

Hail Hail

incorrect, it is not up to Lloyds to agree or disagree to a takeover of a company on the LSE. Any bid must be announced to the stock market. An offer of x price per share made and shareholders vote on it.

The mysterious bid is made up nonsense, if it is not nonsense then they have broken some serious LSE rules and the bidders have made an illegal approach to the majority shareholder (MIH but in reality lloyds) without presenting this bid to shareholders

Hola
Evening Bhoys
Re all the comments about yesterdays game.
Good..bad..indifferent..inefectual..unfit..just a young bhoy,,,yoos have said it all.
We ARE improving, game by game,I understand many of you think the league has gone, just being realists you may say,you may well be correct, you may well be wrong, yesterday we deployed at least three different formations, too much for the players to remember some may cry,it's their job, they should be able to switch from one system to another without thinking about it. Football is a simple game,it really is,the easiest way to accomplish this is to pass and move, pass and move, this is what our manager is trying to strive for, and mark my words he is getting there. He wants us to play like Barca, and why not, pass and move, one touch football, move the ball quickly, and no matter what the other team do,class will always prevail, even a blind man could see the composure Robbie brought to the game when he came on,Kammara showed he has class,Ra Ra has all the attributes,KI will be a sensation,Marco, very unfortunate in getting injured,Edson, desperate to impress, wants to play on the big stage in SA,Jos,player of the year,N'Guemo, these are the type of players we need at Celtic,[we also have a few he inherited] that have the ability, players that have vision, players who make the runs, players who make the killer pass, players who make that last ditch tackle,in terms of the SPL,we have these players, well we have had them for a week,a week, and you are all sitting at your computers putting your negative 2 pennies worth in,ALLOWED,as suporters it is our right, but for fecks sake get a grip, building blocks for the future, this is what IMO our manager was brought in for[he even said it himself]...Do any of yoos really believe the squad he inherited was good enough,be honest,no you didn't[being a little presumptuous there sorry]so what was our manager to do,stick with the tried and tested,oh! and failed squad left to him by [WGS and the result of downsizing by the board],or,what he is trying to do now, build for the future...
I am convinced our manager did his best with the players available to him, they were not good enough to play his type of football,so they have been shipped out,
I wish them all the best.
What now?
Win the league, and the cup,or it's the door TM.
Bhoys,Bhoys.
What the feck is this all about? INSTANT success will not happen,eg.Chelsea/Man City and a few others, [Ok! Chelsea have success now but,it took time, and a feck of a lot of money],it takes time, and quite a lot of money, time, which quite a lot of you are not prepared to give our manager. Money we don't have.
If we do not win the league this season, the money they get from the champions league will not be enough to halt the firesale..

Fact...A Hun fact...to quote another.

When WE win the league, their demise will only be hastened.

They are destined to become another Leeds type club, unless some chap on a white horse comes to their rescue, can't see it myself,as I have said before,my only worry is the hun loving politicians/bankers/media[ via relentless pressure against the bank] who run the country will come to their rescue.

Best/Worst case scenario for the hun is they get bailed out from their debt, this will probably happen. But I firmly believe if this happens, they will still be in turmoil for a few years to come.

Worst/Best case scenario...administration...Hello,Hello, they are the has been boys....Oh!...if there is a Ghod...

I would never assume, but going by what a lot of you are posting,I would think many of you were born in/influenced by Maggie's generation, want it all now, feck the consequences, many are that little bit older, and in general, they are the ones calling for calm, time etc.they are correct, trust them, they will be proved right.

Times are a changing in the football world, major changes are on the horizon, and this is where I am with the boards attitude to a healthy balance sheet.

Until the goalposts are moved, and Celtic are part of a european super league, this mindset will remain. I,and most importantly the people who will ultimately decided this are, UEFA/Sky/Major sponsors and the like, see a midweek super league[or something very similar] as the answer to the financial problems in the game at present. Celtic are a global brand,we have gearing up for this for a few years now, although it's taking longer to come about than I thought it would, but it will happen. The building blocks for this transformation are in place,[building blocks, where have I heard that expression before]there has been plenty of hard work behind the scenes putting this in place.

Don't think the huns can say the the same,[they have been concentrating with endearing themselves to the local populous of europe by rioting in their towns and cities, defecating in the streets, just being themselves really] this HAS NOT gone unnoticed by the people who matter,at present, they will NEVER be invited to be part of any restruction that comes about,NEVER,unless they get rid of the bigotry surrounding their club,I wouldn't be holding my breath, they haven't managed it in over 100 years.

I remember a few years back, when many's a man was locked up in the H blocks, that the prisoners were split into two groups, the Republicans who spent their time educating themselves, and the loyalists who spent their time pumping iron, says it all really.

So back to the present.KTF bhoys,it really is looking bright for the future.

This squad will be further enhanced in the summer, some will be shipped out, some will be retained,I for one have faith in our manager

Cream rises, and our manager will be the gold top.

I wonder if our manager smokes.

He might just want to start, because there is a cigar here just waiting for me to post it to him.

Hail Hail

Developments ‘paralysed’ as bankers dither over selling sites

By Ian Fraser

Published: Mail on Sunday

Date: January 10th, 2010

SCOTLAND’S banks are sitting on hundreds of millions of pounds worth of hidden toxic debt from property loans that are in default.

The Royal Bank of Scotland and Halifax Bank of Scotland have become owners of a large portfolio of properties but have been accused of paralysing the market by not selling them off.

Property developers now claim the banks are sitting on a time bomb of further huge losses which could force even more bailouts by the taxpayer.

The country’s two leading banks played a major part in stoking up a colossal property bubble in 2002-2007 through reckless lending to the sector.

The hangover is hundreds of millions of pounds worth of ‘distressed’ property loans that are in default. As a result, the banks have become among the largest landlords in Scotland and the UK.

But there is growing concern that for more than a year the banks have been inert, unable to decide what do with these massive property portfolios which include housing developments, retail sites and commercial property. Among the dormant sites are two in central Edinburgh – a residential and mixed-use project at Fountainbridge and development of flats, shops and a luxury hotel at Caltongate off the Royal Mile.

Selling them off at current market prices would mean the banks accepting a heavy loss. The crash has caused the value of commercial property to tumble by between 43 per cent and 50 per cent from its May 2007 peak.

Thousands of property owners have been unable to service their loans and have gone into default.

In previous recessions, the banks took a tough line with such customers, repossessing buildings and partially-developed sites through administrations, liquidations and receiverships, before embarking on ‘fire sales’ of the assets.

But this time the banks are employing a tactic that has been dubbed ‘delay and pray’ in which they allow customers to scrape by, making minimum payments on loans described as ‘unserviceable’.

Because the property value is usually a fraction of the outstanding loan, the banks have effectively inherited the property but are not selling it.

Allan Stewart, director of property developer Stewart & McKenna, said: ‘They have huge numbers of developments on their books but they are doing nothing. It is effectively toxic.’

MOST of the gap sites blighting Edinburgh’s city centre are vacant as a result of the collapse of their debt-laden developers and because lenders, mainly RBS and Lloyds Banking Group, cannot decide what to do with sites inherited from bust clients.

The biggest ‘holes in the ground’ are at Caltongate, between the Royal Mile and Waverley station, and the site of the former McEwan’s brewery at Fountainbridge, vacant since the brewery was shut down by Scottish & Newcastle in 2005.

HBOS reportedly paid up to £100 million for 12 acres of the former brewery site in March 2008 to build a state-of-the-art headquarters. But the plans were put on ice after the bank was bailed out by the taxpayer and taken over by Lloyds TSB.

RBS appears unable to decide what to do with the 2.5-acre plot it owns next door, inherited from its client Buredi which planned to build flats and offices but went bust in February.

At Caltongate, developers Mountgrange fought a four-year battle with heritage groups before being granted permission to build a five-star hotel, homes, offices and shops.

But the project has been at a standstill since March, when Lloyds pulled the plug on Mountgrange. Administrators Deloitte have so far been unable to find any buyers.

Saw their penalty again on the news.
Still can't see the shove that everyone else apparently can.

Awe_Naw,
what a pathetically simplistic conclusion to have drawn. You must have enlisted the aid of all your banjo-twanging mates to have reached that. I can see you are the sort of one-dimensional cybermuppet that likes things to be neatly pigeonholed. It probably saves you from having to overwork the dormant organ that is lodged between your ears. You also seem to draw succour from the fact that you have stamped your little feet on this forum for quite some considerable time. Newsflash.......longevity on CQN does not imbue your posts with any more relevance than anyone else's. On the subject of manners, it is boorish cretins like you that need to dust them off more than I.

Gordon_J,

Hey it´s not me that has the diagnosed personality disorder.

Hail hail

Also put myself through listening to Snyde.

It bother's me more that "Great Celts" are willing to take the silver coin and promote a Hunnite agenda rather than any that are what BFDJ says.

Anybody with a half a brain or no fantasit knows that the only info BFDJ has is fed to him as propaganda. Historically, this was the Mint and cronies, now it is the Orange White Knights coming to fleece a rangers supporter near you. BFDJ believes they are loaded becasue he did not have to buy a round all night.

Now most house owners if they sold their house would be sitting on a pile of cash even after paying off their mortgage. The downside would be that they had nowhere to live. Such is it with the millionaires that are bidding for them. Virtually all assets they have are tied up or very much under the radar to keep away from the authorities.

However, despite all this good news it is unlikely/if not nigh impossible to believe that they will go in administration now or in the near future. Administration would only be done if the bank believes that this is the best way to mitigate their losses. However, despite our hopes the Bank will believe that they are in strong position to win the league and enter the Champions League, they could then seel their best assets at a knockdown price a la Austria Vienna, and got what they can in season tickets. Having raised all the cash this would be the best time to pull the plug or sell for less.

ALmost certainly this will mean that no contracts have been offered as they cannot commit to any future liability.

I wonder if one of the financial gurus would care to give a view on what LLoyds strategy is. Clearly they want their money back, but how would thy see this happening?

In the short term, a new owner paying off all of the debts looks unlikely.

So do they continue to bleed them a little, getting some cash back, while waiting for a new owner?

Or will they make major cuts, force the sale of players, etc, to accelerate repayment?

Liked the first part of your post on the football front, and agree with most of your points/sentiment.

The only thing I would add is that its easy to understimate how frustrated and fed up the Celtic supporters have become who go to the games every week. It was getting beyond a joke (given that we've not won that many home games this season) and there is no better place than CQN to voice their concerns, fears, frustrations, hopes and preferences.

We have found a poacher!

Rasmussen is our man to put it in the onion bag.

The difference between him and Skippy is desire and hunger.
These traits had vanished from Skippy's locker and we were not getting the 100% from him.

Ra Ra looks like he's dying to put it in the net for us and I love that.

His partnership with Keano was excellent in the 2nd half and while Keano may not be a poacher he has what we've been missing up front. Intelligence and a work rate that shows why he's made his mark in football.

I hope our players are learning from him.

Sammi I would drop. He slows our play down by deciding to turn back at every opportunity and ambles sideways across our halfway line only to delay the pass he should have made 20 seconds earlier!!
He's so frustrating. Sammi...pass and move!!

As for Tony Tinkerman's selection I wouldn't be surprised if it's a different front pairing again on wednesday. If it is there's big questions to answer from him as you don't split a successful partnership.

Consistency in team selection is a huge factor and I don't think Tony's ever going to grasp this.

He's got to save our season and probably his own job by being more ruthless than ever and stick with the players who are producing the goods.

She was in their side of the shed (whatever its called) and clearly saw it as a dive but not Master Richmond, funny that..........

Emjay

As you say "Stick with the players who are producing the goods".

At the moment (imo) this includes about 5 players - Nguemo, Kamara, Keane, Rasmussen, Braafheid.

Unfortunately 2 of our very talented players (McGeady and Brown) dont look to be on top of their game but Tony the Tinker will no doubt play at least 1 of them due to their experience over guys like Ki, McGinn etc

We could easily swap out Boruc for Zaluska and be no worse off.

Fortuné was on fire prior to the 'January 3' arriving so its unfortunate for him if we cant find him a place in the first 11.

As for defence - its any 4 from 5 in the lucky dip...

Hola

I totally understand yours and many others frustration,I have spent many years going through the same thing.Have been faithfull through and through since the early 60s,never,ever,have I critisised a Celtic player,or manager come to think of it,I accept what and where we are,of course I want it now,but I also am a realist,we will rise again, and when we do,we will be there for a very loooong time.
I'm getting on a bit now,and if I decide to stop smoking again[just started after 8 years without...yes this is what supporting Celtic does to you]and stop drinking this superb Spanish wine I might just live long enough to see The Glasgow Celtic become Champions of Europe again,I seriously believe that,a couple of years ago, under MoN we were genuinly one of the best teams around, given a bit of honest refereeing we probably could have been, dreaming,I probably am but they are MY DREAMS.

Overhead Kick,
I'd go with most of the players you mention and yes Fortune's unlucky to be dropped. Definitely deserves a game in midfield more than Sammi.

Brown hasn't delivered for us yet. Aiden is well off form and Boruc's attitude/weight needs seriously looked at.

He said he had attended school in Craigneuk, so he would graduate cum laude in being bullied.

PS THis assumes he attended in Craigneuk Wishy, not the more salubrious upmarket Craigneuk in Airdrie.

The other way round, our forward would have been booked.

Sevendouble and presto.

The penalty was simulation.
A well executed star jump.
Have watched it a dozen times.
Minimal contact from Paul,"give us a wave",Caddis.

Sorry to digress from thread, but been meaning to ask a question of the IT-literate on here for a while.

What settings can I alter on my PC to improve web-streaming? Any football matches I try to watch are ruined by the picture freezing to the point the game becomes unwatchable. I presume it is a memory issue? Apart from clearing everything off the computer (not an option) what can I do to improve matters. I have access to both IE and Firefox on my PC and have AVAST running in the background.

Got to get the weans to bed, will check back later. All replies gratefully appreciated.

I suppose it is a sign of these harsh recessional times that people who would have merited 11 'DEARS' in the not too distant past, now have to get by on a frugal 4 of such endearments.

Some criticism of Artur recently.
On Sunday`s evidence,well deserved.
When the ball was centered from the edge of the box, Artur was two metres off his line and two metres beyond his front post.
His goal was empty.
His goalkeeping instincts are flawed.
Don`t feel that is something which can be now taught.

Brixton Celt, we need another three to make it up to five. I think that any more than that is nearly impossible given the way results have been running. I know TTT and the rest have hit the bar on a few occasions. I would like to win at the football. Having said that my horse picks have been running well but coming second. We'll start tomorrow or Wednesday if we get another three. We'll see what price Celtic for starters. Another thing---I like draws. They can make the bet,so you'll probably find me looking for a draw a lot of the time.

Guys,

Looking for 3 tickets for Wednesday night if anyone has some for sale.

First thing you need to ensure you have a fast enough connection to your ISP. Probably need to ensure your download speed is at 1MBps.
You can check your speed on a number of sites. Offhand try www.speedtest.com
If you're using Windows Media Player reserve at least 30 secs of buffer time. I personally set it at 60 secs.

Your description of why Mr. Sammi should be shown the door and his key to the Men's Wash Room,returned...is frighteningly...
spot on.

Mr.Sammi is displaying all of the No Nos. that were responsible for the following Rule, to be formulated,by those who Formulate such ...well.. such Formulations.

Here it is...

"The Football, in the Game of Soccer.. should at all times be treated like a "Hot Potato"..although, there is another School of Thought..that, instead, suggests, that the Football, should be treated like an Ice Cream Cone, oan a Hoat day,in the Park."

The Explanation of that..is ..of .. course,this..

Everyone knows, the Most sensible way to handle an Ice Cream Cone, oan a aoat day,in the Glesca Green, wid be tae get rid of it.. as fast as Possible.. afore it Melts.. awe ower, yer new Doctor Martins.

Two different Schools of Thought wi' the same Point of View.

macjay on February 8, 2010 8:17 PM,

Given the run into the box by the Dunfermline attacker Boruc had to move to his near post, as the guy could easily decided to shoot rather than pass. Had Boruc been beaten at his left post by a shot, this would have been criminal. Instead the attacker passed. I don't believe he moved beyond his post to cut the angle down.

To be honest he did look a bit exposed when I first watched at it but I think given the space the attacker had in the box he was right to cover his left-post...problem was that he was exposed centrally too. So cannot blame him for that.

That said, I think there is a good case for Zaluska to get a start.

Need a bit of a favour for something I'm working on - hopefully some folk can help, might be easy.

You know these template videos where you can input your own phrases or dialogue? Like this one, and there's a Hitler in the bunker one. I'm trying to collect a few - if anyone has any, I'd appreciate you posting examples. Don't have to be Celtic-related as such.

Thanks in advance.

Bournesouprecipe ......found Brian Quinn's response a bit strange.....politics before principles..??

bourne

I had a love/hate relationship with the first half. Loved the formation, the fluidity, the shape, the 'no wingers with chalk on their boots', Samaras floating, the pivot up front is a tall guy, the fact that so many of our team were comfortable with it, especially GS, but also Morten and Kamara, Brafeid. Hated the fact it was 2-2, but that was down to individual errors, which is the one area from which TM can clearly be absolved. Then, as you say, we blink and go all 442, even worse in the last twenty minutes or so. That first half is the way ahead, but it won't last. That, ultimately, could be his downfall. The strength of Keane is that he can play in that first-half formation, and so could Morten. It could also be the formation that sets free the real Aiden.

notthebus

Aye, you're nobody till you've been branded a Hun;-)

I remember nothing but outrage at The Daily Thugs n Thieves, and the subject came up through the latest scrap, about Broonie.

Brian Quinn must have got some amount of mail at the time, such was the feeling in the Celtic Support, and I was disappointed with his response.

I'd much rather he'd came back and said, we were taking them to court, and banning them.

The more things stay the same.

Kojo, you have taken the exact words oot ma mooth. I think the World Cup will show that the top teams will move the ball as you say. Georgy and Aiden are not team players , they are ego players. It may be too late to save them. And what do you think was Mr Larsson's strength ? EVERYTHING was for the team, he did not dribble like an eejit, up one-way streets, even though he could have done.

The Exiled Tim @7.51,

I have been watching Celtic for a couple more years than yourself. I cannot claim to have never criticised a player (I caused the first stooshie on CQN when I voiced my opinion of the Pointer) but I do share your dreams for Celtic. In fact, I have a good feeling about Rasmussen. I was saying on here last week that I think the current Celtic are like that of the late 50s and early 60s. Rasmussen may be the new Joe McBride. Look what he did for us (along with Jock, of course). It is the confidence that a regular goal scorer gives to the whole team. I would like to think he and Keane could feed off the football brain of Crosas, the new Charlie Callagher.

Hope springs eternal.

oisin 8.40
The ball was delivered from the edge of the box. I feel Artur`s position should have been at the near post, with the post in touching distance.
From this position,he would have had time to get back to the centre of his goal and,i.m.o, would have had a much better chance of stopping the prod[not a religious reference] ,which was hit with very little force.

Second half, from a corner kick,he`s running back on his line and misses contact with the ball.Fortunately for him, whistle goes for a foul.
Why doesn`t he just stand at the back post.
Much easier to make contact if you are running forward.

For me,oisin,he`s just an enigma.
I feel the problem is between his ears rather than round his waist.
I wish him well,but I hae ma` doots.
Cheers.

We've been going through a bad spell at left-back - I was just carrying that on. I thought Edson played well :-)

My favourite moment of Sunday's match: Rasmussen's pass to Keane for the penalty.

Can't believe he was dropped for Kilmarnock, does the simple things well, no meandering about aimlessly (shared copyright Samaras and McGeady) and has real belief in front of goal rather than the usual powder puff shooting we've had to watch for a couple of seasons (since big Jan's heyday).

By bournesouprecipe on February 8, 2010 8:18 PM

i'm sure you'll remember your original post where you stated that brian quinn the chairman at the time had responded to your letter stating that the editor of the daily record was a personal friend of his. your exact words.

i doubted that you had received such a letter, i cant see from what you posted that i was wrong.

you've got to ask yourself what sort of person takes a letter from the vice-chairman (not the chairman nor the chief exec) who has taken the time to write a comprehensive response to his concerns and completely changes its content to make him look bad.

why would you publicly show yourself up to have made something like that up, to have lied, just to make some childish point?

i'd ban White, Orange, Red Boots and The Daily Record:-)

Caldwell and McManus gone and TM gets an injury, just his luck, and interesting he
got his bit in about trying to strengthen (Ramis).

To be honest if losing goals against a team sixth in Div One, doesn't tell the fans something
nothing will, but I remain convinced their penalty was a joke, and he couldn't wait to give it.

Funnily enough The Guardian suggests Celtic's penalty wasn't, but Dunfermline's was fine.

Still haven't recovered from signing Robbie Keane, never mind the fact we lost to Killie, inside
24 hours.

We agree on formation, somehow we've even made McGeady look bad, worried about Hearts

I read with interest the Tom English piece from yesterday's Scotland on Sunday which someone posted a link to.

The gist of the piece was that basically the Huns should either put up or shut up.

I have it on VERY good authority, that the background to Sir Cardigan's latest proclamation regarding the depth of the financial brown stuff in which they find themselves is as follows.

Eagle-eyed CQNr's will recall the manager of Manchester United recently graced us all with a state visit to sunny Govan. As an extra to the state visit, a wee detour was made to Mordor, whereupon it was agreed that the Huns would take on board for the remainder of the season the Mancs fringe player Obertan. The Cardigan had apparently all but sealed a deal for a mysterious Scandinavian of some sort, both deals being funded by the Mendes/RowTan departures.

The Bank said NO.

He never hides. He always tries but he just puts the brakes on any kind of attack we make and it frustrates the hell out of me.

Tony needs to tell him to stop trying to find the "killer" pass all the time coz it's killing our momentum.

What did we get drummed into us when we were kids learning our football?

Easy baw and pass and move. I found myself shouting this at the tv on sunday much to the astonishment of Mrs Emjay who thought Easy baw was a player in our team!!!!

brian quinn didnt take to do (sic) with the daily running of celtic. he was a non-exec vice chairman, and as such was a part time employee who served on the board.

the contents might not be of consequence to you now, but they were on saturday when you lied about them to make a point about the board and their attitude towards the daily record.

thats why i didnt believe you were telling the truth about it. i did tell you not to waste your time but you went and did it anyway. i'm glad if nothing else it has shown your ridiculous claims about a celtic employee to be false and shown you up for what you are.

Setting free the bears

After your post last night I watched the penalty accident at lest 20 times. If you concentrate on Paul Caddis you will see that he was defending from the wrong side. He was late and had no chance to get the ball. He watched Dunfermline player not the ball. Not jumped to the ball.
Two wrong decision from him: wrong defending and pushing the player when he was in the air.
I'm sure we remain the same like two brothers one stbborn Scott and the other stubborn Pole.
I wish the referees were giving penalties for similar fouls on Celtic favour.
For me it's penalty or no penalty.
You are strange country. You have:
Stonewall penalty
Soft penalty
Very soft penalty
Celtic penalty
Rangers penalty
Last minute penalty

I do not understand the significance of the £31mill debt figure.
If someone is trying to buy the club there has to be more to it than the debt figure.
All the articles seem to focus on this to the exclusion of all else.
Consequently I have been trying to find out what I am missing.

Next up I have been trying to find out the financial numbers behind the TFOD situation:

1) T/O excluding Euro football.
2) Football wages.
3) Cashflow.

The main question is what would be the level of annual football spend to support a balanced cashflow on a T/O of £40mill?

================================

That is then what I think the TFOD to be as a standalone unit.
Next step is how will LBG be able to get rid of them without bringing down MIH?

Stuff from TFOD websites by way of KDS suggests that the issue is being dealt with in two parts, the TFOD are going to be split into a football club and a stadium company.

New owners = Football club which will deal with the debt.
Stadium Company = Kept by MIH so that its balance sheet is not impaired by the split.
Football club pay rent for use of the ground.
Rent = 6% of stadium value or £7mill approx pa?
We should note that £7mill is a big chunk of a £40mill budget.

Also the £31mill of debt has been described as being split into two components:

1) Overdraft -- £9mill, this being reduced by £1mill pa.
2) Bank debt -- £22mill, to be paid back in three instalments over the next 4 years, starting with £7mill in June 2010.

One question here is what amount of the £7mill could be covered by internal cashflow given the CL money this season?

===================================

Pretty obvious to see that my comments are very rough and ready.
Any info on how they could be improved would be appreciated.

My dear,dear,dear,dear,friend..Emjay.

In that case I'll stick with my first pick so as not to jinx the coupn.

I think we have 4 so far. I'll be checking in the early(-ish) morning but will have to go with what we have by then. So far (with Paddy Power odds shown) it appears to be -

Greenlion2 - West Brom 4/9
twists n turns - Cardiff 8/15
Jobo Baldie - St Mirren (Wed) 5/4
The Token Tim - Newcastle 5/6

Spoke with a Grade 1 whistler today who thought Austin McCann should have seen red for his foul on our new hero; denying a goal scoring opportunity etc

madmitch@10.04 - I think you've already got as much detail as you're likely to. They're published accounts aren't as detailed as ours and I don't think you can break them down to easily.

Jobo, TTT

I went with your selection on Saturday - if I only knew how to do the perm thing! :(

To be honest the Podium Championship was rather more resource intensive than I had anticipated and, to be honest, I think it ran its course pretty well. I also don't think I could have coped with '6-article-Monday' last week!

Maybe you could suggest (and rganise?) something different for the future?

I think you can see Brian Quinns letter, the contents are self explicit and that was the purpose
of my hosting it.

You said he wouldn't take to do with such a matter ( he did )

You said he didn't take to do with the daily running of the club ( he clearly did)

He refers to the matter and his comments not therein, the letter proves nothing other
than the fact he wrote to a Celtic Supporter about the Fergus McCann / Hussein slur.

You corrected me a number of times, on Saturday I was polite, but it's not working would you like to meet me in The Car Park at Celtic Park, or Croftfoot Roundabout, you chose.

There is no doubt it was a penalty. I like your take on our strange country. As an ex SFA referee I am always amazed like you at the descriptions of a penalty or a booking, it was SOFT/EASY etc. No where in the FIFA rules does it say you only get penalties if they are DEFINATE & not if they are SOFT. If you push a player in the back it is a penalty, full stop.
One different point, not read back the posts today.

Can someone answer why the Dunfermline player was not sent off for his challenge on Keane? Keane was in a clear goalscoring position |& defender was the last man. We are normally questioning ref's after recent defeats/draws & blaming them. Is it not nice to be victorious & question the decision & not blame it on paranoia!!!

Love your posts, but for an old man, pretty thick,I find them hard work, takes me so much time to read, not to much of that left, keep it going.

What's that all about then, please enlighten.

Jobo,

no worries mate. As I said its your call and to be fair up to now your calls have been spot on. Interesting that you have sort of changed your MO and went for an odds against this time though.

As you may or may not know I try not to go less than 4/5, but that doesnt always hold.

If there are any more posts later tonight I'll try and list them for you to catch tomorrow morning.

i cant` help further with any additional info

i do think your suggestion of a split sale ie ..football op co and a stadium co makes sense

imo this has to be the way forward

if RFC was sold inc of the stadium and MP then unless a very substantial purchase price were paid then a huge hole would be left in MIH ... a hole sufficient to tip it over the edge

your article raises a few thoughts of my own

1. repayment of £7m of debt each year for 4 years ..for a team who can`t keep within their budget this will be tough

2 as above but paying an additional £7 m for rental...very tough

3 ..no CL money....can`t afford 1+2 ... RFC have to sell all of their decent players and their football budget is the size of Aberdeen`s

the above makes a nonsense of the clamour re the £18m offer

and more importantly may explain WS`s miserable projections for the immediate RFC financial future

i hope you get the further info you require to give us a complete breakdown...i`m sure it`ll make interesting reading

I agree with all your comments re the penalty. I would also add that Paul Caddis body language was: Oh no, hope the MITB doesn't blow for tha..... aw bums! :)

madmitch,

I don't have any info at all, was just looking for a steer from those who have a better idea of how banks work.

I've heard the stadium company/ football club idea a few times. I can see how this benefits the MIH balance sheet and also brings in some income.

If the football company has to pay rent + reduce the overdraft + reduce the debt, then it is not going to have a great deal left over! Although I suppose some of the payback could come from sale of players?

MIH is still the key in all of this. The company seems to be hanging on by a thread. And if the property market isn't likely to improve, then will Lloyds continue to be patient?

BT,

I know mate, I was only winding ye up :-)

despite my wretched run of late

i`d plump for Swindon 4-6 tomorrow

jtsticks,

you bet it online or in bookies?
If online it should offer you the perms, i.e 5-folds, 6-folds, 7-folds etc in addition to the accumulator.

If you go to the bookies wait for a wee quiet spell then ask one of the staff and they'll show you.

Cheers PF.

So far we have 5 teams in the Accu:

Jobo - St Mirren
PF - Swindon
Twists - Cardiff
GL2 - West Brom

Base question is still un-answered.
Why the emphasis on the £31mill debt figure?

Looking for any info on what is on the LBG / TFOD agenda.

Thanks for the advice, I am still an old fashioned shop man - but should really get myself an account on-line. Is there a site that you would recommend to take my electronic cash?

At this point, I don't think that too much can be read into Tony Mowbray's team selections, regarding who are his first choice players.

In defence, he more or less has to play whoever is fit.

In midfield and attack, however, it is about finding the best combinations and, equally important, bringing all his top players up to match level fitness.

Keane, Braafheid and Kamara haven't played much football lately and the Scandinavian lads have had a winter break.

The trick is, to achieve all this and try to win games also.

The support will require to be match fit on Wednesday night.

Tommy Callaghan was mostly hopeless, although he did have one absolutely outstanding season where everyone just kept looking at each other and wondering what had got into him. He became a dream box to box midfielder, a sort of green Lothar Mattheus, a thinner incredible Hulk. Then the next season came along and he was suddenly like Cinderella at a minute past midnight.

What about Johnny Doyle? A 100% Celt, and would run through brick walls for the team, but unfortunately, too often that's what he tried to do; I felt that because he was so determined to give his all, to succeed, that he never really trusted in his innate ability. He would run into blind alleys 99 times out of 100. Aiden has a lot to learn.

I can't see why many people are convinced of the 'anti Celtic' agendas held by Burley, Charlie, Davie Provan, BBJ etc. etc. since, in the main, their comments are as nothing compared to some opinions voiced on this blog.

And we all ARE Celtic minded, aren't we?

I could not agree more with your post.

I have read stuff on this site that would require a letter to Brian Quinn if it was published in a tabloid rag.

I agree, they have gambled on the problem going away (economic recovery)or a mythical person coming along and bailing them out - The banks are not lending so this was always pie in the sky, many people have said this will be as bad if not worse than the Great Depression, if it is, then Rangers are surely finished.

They should have been addressing their problems as soon as they realised how bad it was, I guess the gamble has failed especially if the Market goes back down and into the Double Dip recession they're already warning about.

So a strong tidal wave has become a tsunami as you rightly say. ;)

It couldn't happen to a better club.

madmitch@10.40 - you're guess is as good as mine on that. I would really like to know why it is that nobody is prepared to run a detailed look at them.

Several people on here have been able to breakdown some of the dubious (but not illegal) methods they've used to boost the balance sheet. Why are none of the sports and business journalists combining to do this? It strikes me that it would be a pretty major story.

The only reason I can think of for concentrating on the £31M figure is that it's bad but seems achievable. It should after all be covered by two seasons Champions League income. Although it won't be.

They will not consider looking at a realistic sale price (even at 60p in the pound for the debt) because to do so would totally expose Sir David Murray and what he's done. Remember this is a man that's been placed on a pedestal as one of our top business people. At that reduced debt repayment, buying the club at cost would be far in excess of £100M. Nobody would ever do that knowing that they may never see any kind of return on that investment. To sell it at a more realistic value of eg £50M is going to put a £50M hit in the MIH accounts (minimum). Right now they can't take that.

I'm sure you know all this. I feel the need to write it all out again to get my head around why it's not been in the press.

I think there may be a feeling that if the truth was exposed in the mass media that their supporters might just leave in sufficient numbers to really make it terminal.

Walter Smith knows. He knows that there are a few thirds and fourths in the offing.

Okay. Another short note from the skeptic visitor.
After many bad bhoys gone to the other clubs it’s surprising me that those who are still in here can’t play the football.Still can't. Boruc and McGeady can’t play this game, definitely. They are very, very bad players. They we
