Captain Brown
Celtic returned from winning the away leg of their Uefa Cup semi final against Boavista to play Rangers at Ibrox on the Sunday (not the Saturday, as urban legend has it). Strips were laid out in the Celtic dressing room with the captain's armband sitting on top of Jackie McNamara's jersey.
McNamara was not a first team regular and had not been told he was captain. An awkward moment followed as the player tried to find out if the armband had been left in error. It hadn't. Martin O'Neill gave McNamara a target to rise to.
Captaincy brought the best out of McNamara, who had left his best form behind five years earlier but rediscovered his form for the next two years.
I am 100% sure Celtic have not seen the best of Scott Brown. Perhaps being captain will give the player the confidence and authority he needs to deliver for Celtic.

The only real choice for Mowbray.
Credit where credit due: that was a good move.

Having had a terrible start to this season due to injury having such a tragedy in his personal life. Celtic have yet to see the true Scott Brown. (Also think Strachan played in a too defensive role)
Good luck Scott

"Re the handling of the media, if he had answered differently we wouldn't be having this debate at all."
Whats makes you and others judge and jury on TM's handling of the media.
I hate to burst some bubbles but because TM does not do or say something exactly how you would like does not make him wrong.
I have no problem with people giving an opinion, what i have a problem with is the the egos on here that think they can do it all so much better.
You state "if he had answered differently we wouldn't be having this debate at all", Say's who?, you?, again what makes you and people of the same opinion think that your view is correct and TM has it all wrong?.
What qualifies all of you to tell TM his handling of the media is incorrect, the results on the park suggest his team choice is not correct but that shouldn't mean its open season to criticise everything the man does.
I find the arrogance of some people unreal.
Hail Hail
Two concerns about Skoosh as captain:
1) Will he be droppable if his form is as poor as prior to his injury?
2) Will his status be another nail in the Crosas N'Guemo partnership?
I think he'll do well as Captain.
This could be the making of Broonie, the team and the manager.
ádh mór Broonie
Afternoon all
It's like a Rangers love in on BBC1
Thank God it's Liverpool/Everton in 5 mins
I disagree Paul.
Cant see how making someone captain is going to help a player learn to control the ball and find a team mate with a pass.
i don't think it matters who wears the arm band. Celtic SHOULD have 11 captains on the park. The rebuild starts this weekend!
Cometh the hour, cometh the man?
I concur. The only real choice IMO.
I still think he'll be a hell of a player for us.
4-3-3 please BTM
Apologies if this has already been resolved but does anyone have an idea of the outcome of the window in terms of:
a) Net spend
b) Wage bill
Have to say that I thought the window was successful either way but was just interested...
I don't think there was any other choice. I hope Paul is right and it raises his game to another level. Bhoy do we need it to be so.
If Brown shows the form to justify a place in the team then maybe he could be an option as Captain.
He must be delighted at the new sponsorship deal, should be able to get tickets to go to T in the Park this year, whether he is told not to go or not.
Have we started legal proceedings against the Daily Record for the Scott Brown carry on the other week?
I'm going to stick my neck out here and claim that I could do a better job than Mowbray.
Really, it's not that hard.
He has more or less unlimited resources compared to his rivals.
His main rival is up to its neck in manure without a dime.
I could reckon on it.
As far as the media goes: I would talk to the BBC, SKY, ESPN, CQN :-), NTV, CV and CelticTV.
The rest can make up their usuals.
Celtic Tom
Me being arrogant would make you naive (sp?)
You think he is right to answer everything straight down the line - fair enough. You are in a small minority.
My concern is he is making his own job more difficult.
Any ideas on who the next captain will be when Brown gets injured/dropped or suspended.Until then we will have 3 or 4 weeks of his headless chicken routine.
Is there a record for the amount of captains a football team has had in one season.
It's time to bin the predictable WGS 4-4-2, with a central 2 and 2 "wingers". TM played a 4-3-3 at Hibs and it brought the best out of Scott Brown.
As I said last night, Crosas & NGuemo must start in midfield with Broon. Keane a defo starter and perm any two attacking players from about 8!
Aiden looks like he needs a rest, so bench him and try something different.
What's the latest on the injury front?

My latest, for all interested readers.

As said before, i have no problem with anyone expressing an opinion on how TM manages Celtic, this is all our right as Celtic supporters.
What i totally disagree with is personal insults of the man as a person.
The abuse and constant personal criticism he receives on this blog is staggering and Would be at home on FF.
I'm no saint and have shouted many of insults at the manager or players in the heat of the moment, even when i read the blog after games its understandable that peoples frustrations get the better of them, but when its the end of the week and people are ripping the man to shreds for his HONESTY is too much for me.
offtopic. re matches showning in the Scottish Cup are the games shown on the BBC. Is the monies paid shared by all clubs or only the ones involved ?
West Wales Celt at 12.23
My thoughts exactly. Normally a captain is undroppable & Brown form since joining has been poor to say the least.
Also we have tried several partnerships in the middle of the park Brown & Hartley, Brown & Robson, Brown & Donati, Brown & N'Guemo none of these worked but spot the link. N'Guemo & Crosas seems to work & I still can't work out what Crosas has done to merit being dropped.
I don't believe we have a natural choice for captain but I'd have gone with Hinkel - an experienced international player.

what is the stars
The whole thing is symptomatic of how reputation has triumphed over form this season.
Players have less incentive to do well (e.g. Crosas) if their hard work is rewarded with a spell on the bench to accommodate one of the manager's favourites.

A hothead for Captain?
The only thing Scott Brown had left, when he limped out of TM's stumbling team was a hefty price tag.
The whole Captaincy debate is over played imo we should change it every week, if need be.
Brown has a better chance of being a left backm under the present fiasco than a Captain of Celtic.
Hail Hail
Good article Paul.
I am not a massive fan, but Scott is now the captain of our team.
Lets see what he brings, when he is injury free and not told to do the sitting role that Strachan seemed to ask of him.
He was certainly a player under btm, he does not lose that ability by moving to our team.
Give it a chance and support him and the team.
lets start with a resounding victory tommorrow
Hail Hail
Making Brown Captain is a strange one.
Does this guarantee him a place whenver he is fit at the expense of all other players?
He has failed to show any sort of form (before he got injured) and put in many hopeless performances where he couldnt pass, shoot, tackle and was basically a headless chicken.
Admittedly he has a 'spark' and looks like he wants to win - which is a Captains quality - but surely someone needs to be a regular starter and showing some match winning form before being made Captain.
I dont see that this appointment will in itself make any difference to the way we are playing, but hope Im wrong.
And I hope Brown shows the form that some believe he is capable of - as I think he has had his chances and spurned them. He should be moved on in the summer if he doesnt show up.
hang the dj:
Trouble is I think Tony prefers Ki over Crosas - not a wise preference IMO
I think Brown as captain is a good call. I also agree we haven`t seen the best of him. We can still win the League !!!

That was long James Forrest:)
Well written.
Hope the captains armband brings out leadership qualities in Brown he hasn't shown to date. Agressive play is comendable as is a first class work rate, getting involved in needless arguments with players and the referee simply leeds to avoidable bookings and suspensions. Start showing an example to the young players around you Scott. Robson had the balance right. What concerns me is that we have a team with no obvious leaders, we can only hope that these guys stand up and be counted from now until the end of the season.

Both Mark McGhee and John Hughes would do a better job than Tony Mowbray
I see nothing there about opinions or what you think only a clear statement.
Also, as a betting man, how on Gods earth can you justify taking a punt on either of these two rather than giving the current manager the time to finish the job he has only just begun? They might provide a better quick fix solution to win the SPL but I believe that Tony Mowbray has bigger plans for us. To lay the foundations for a team to dominate in the long term takes time and involves many teething problems. Do you think Man Utd would have had the success they have had had they fired Alex ferguson after 5 trophyless years?
I for one am willing to give our manager time. A little support also goes a long way.

'Have we started legal proceedings against the Daily Record for the Scott Brown carry on the other week?'
I think this is unlikely. My information is that Traynor and the Record are on solid ground with this one hence the reason for Traynor's bullishness/arrogance in the immediate aftermath of the 'in the hands of our lawyers' comment by the club.
Best of luck Scott, with some of the fans we've got, your going to need it.

Is he smart enough to open a tin of beans?
When our history teacher Mr Murray (now in San Francisco — Hail Hail, if you're looking in Jim) was left without a captain when Wullie Doc got injured, the figurative arm band (real arm bands were noncy nancy things to everyone in Scottish football in those days) went to the star player and midfield general, Johnny G.
Johnny was the salt of the earth, but I wouldn't fancy his chances on Brain of Britain. Or even Brain of Ayrshire. For example, we came out of O Grade arithmetic at the same moment and I asked Johnny how he thought he had got on. He said ‘brilliant’ as far as the ‘main bit’ of his answers was concerned. It was just that Johnny had never learned what decimal points were all about and had had to guess where the point went in each answer.
Anyway, Johnny as captain was a totally different footballer: sensible, conservative, mature, level-headed, responsible. So much so that, in possession midway in our own half, he decided against attempting his trademark defence-splitter to set up one of the strikers, chose a back-pass instead and scored the most spectacular own goal I have ever seen in the postage stamp of our net.
We still won.
Good luck Scott. Be great.

I agree that we haven't seen the best of Scott Brown. And of course I hope that he reaches his true form very quickly.
But I do wonder whether giving him the captaincy right now is a wide move. I would prefer to see him working on his fitness and game, and becoming a first team regular. That should be his target for the rest of the season.
I would have given Robbie Keane the armband for now. Yes, he is a loan signing, but he has far more experience of captaincy that anyone else we have.

Scott Brown our Capitano!!?
Hi Paul, Not sure that this guy is what we are looking for in a captain at this present time?
First we are not even sure were Captain browns best position on the feild is at present or if he has the credentials to motivate them around him in the correct manner?
Secondly,
I would have favoured someone that was first pick on the team sheet every week and as he has just returned from a long lay off, His fitness and the roll the manager has shoved onto him might be a little soon!!?
Finally my belief is that a Captain should be able to influence a game through his actions and be able to command the field of play which includes the REFEREES!! Something that has not been seen for a while around Celtic Park....I can only hope that Scott Brown will show us these skills in the coming weeks and months ahead?....and then just maybe the target will be Hit!!?

Most coaches would agree, and can see that two wide, with winger type players is
an easy system to stop, and will be in most SPL games, Calderwood survived the initial
charge, and fixed it in ten minutes.
The reliance on McGeady is bordering on farcical,to such an extent his game has suffered
badly, we think he needs a rest, so watch out for him starting tomorrow.

One of the problems I feel with the team selection is that Mowbray will undoubtedly play Keane (due to cost/ability) and also Fortuné (on form and managers favourite) - meaning we have 2 strikers to start.
I think NGuemo is a stick on due to his good form.
McGeady on form is also a cert in the starting 11 but his current form is not good so he should be dropped.
Ki looks class but I agree that the Central Midfield cannot afford the luxury of having no-one with a tackle in them so Ki is not guaranteed a place.
Kamara (having just been signed) will probably get a few games to stake his claim.
Crosas seems to have been unfairly dropped after providing much needed stability prior to the 'tinker man''s January signing exploits.
Brown being given the captaincy - surely means he will start games.
Above ALL else - what we need is COHESION. A resilient team with a clear strategy and game plan - and a plan B when required.
I would predict BTM's favoured starting 11 to be as follows:
Boruc
Hinkel Hooiveld Loovens Braefheid
McGeady NGuemo Brown Kamara
Fortuné Keane
My Favoured 11 would be ...
Boruc
Hinkel Hooiveld Thompson Braefheid
NGuemo Crosas McGeady
Ki
Fortuné/Rasmussen Keane
Celtic Tom - fair play.
I took a fair bit of stick over the last couple of days for backing TM. And I still do, all the way.
Arrogant and Naive are opposite ends of a very wide spectrum - I'm guessing we will fall somewhere in the middle, and actually not that far apart on most issues.
Not watching the huns, but hoping they have a very physical draw / defeat.
I have to give the benifit of the doubt to both - hope, faith blind loyalty is getting spent rapidly. Doubt I have in abundance.
bourne - not holding my breath waiting on those team changes, but maybe TM will surprise us tomorrow?!

What is being the best player got to do with being captain?
John Terry was/is a good captain for country and club, certainly not the best player in either team.
Yet a smashing captain why because he takes no nonsense off team mates, opposition or referee's for that matter
What he does give is drive determination and a desire to win, he cant stand getting beat.
Which my friends in Celtic is the very reason why SB will captain Celtic with distinction and may well be a future Scotland captain to boot.
TM you have made a good choice perhaps this decision will change how our season is going.

James I've never dialogued with you before on CQN, but , I've just read your latest essay and I have to say its a fine piece of work.
That's not to say I agree with your sentients, but your analogy between the Tony's and Gordon's is interesting.!
As a club, we were indeed fortunate to get MoN as manager, but equally we were good for him , and in the 2 years or so before he came to Celtic MoN was overlooked for a variety of top jobs in England (Liverpool / Arsenal / Everton).I don't agree with your inference that managers won't jump ship mid season , and that Dalglish did us an inferred favour by hanging around for four months. If TM left, there are others out there.
This leads me on to my next point about what does it take to be Celtic Manager - whilst Paul Lambert and Willie McStay are doing well in current roles, IMHO they are both one job away from Celtic. ....for those clamouring for Willie McStay, I would ask you to look at his track record in youth development , or , to be more precise how many products of his youth / reserve teams are in our first team.
That's not to say that they don't have potential - I think there is something about Paul Lambert which will make him a great manager, but from Colchester to Celtic (via Norwich) in less than 12 months is an issue.
So, back to the core of the issue SACK HIM or BACK HIM ?
Like many readers of this site (I suspect) my view changes with my emotions. As I sit writing just now, my view is we have a man with talents not yet reaching the levels required to do the job.
In most other industries, when this happens, the individual would be given more support training , mentoring , other development.
So going back to my original back him or sack him, in the cold light of day, we have invested heaviliy in TM , let's support him, and IMHO the best waty to do that is a mentor. We can call him whatever, but, on his own TM is struggling - give him a chance, give him support .
I think we are in ''violent agreement' !
VOTE Tony , VOTE Celtic !

you may have inside knowledge about this but papers never admit they are wrong unless they are forced to. threats of legal action are not reason enough for them to do it, backing down on something like this would mean whats left of their credibility would be shot to pieces.

Sliding Doors Scenario 1

Celtic beat Hearts, Aberdeen and Dundee Utd
Celtic beat Rangers Home and Away
Celtic win the league by a narrow margin
Tony Mowbray is hailed a Hero / Genius
Celtic win Scottish Cup
Celtic Fans repent for doubting BTM could do it

Celtic Fans in uproar and want BTM sacked
Celtic face qualifying rounds of CL again
Fans unhappy and season ticket renewals falter even further

Sliding Doors Scenario 3
The 3rd scenario is that Celtic lose the SPL but show signs that they have built a team that is likely to beat all before them in the league next year and make a dent in Europe.

If Celtic do indeed follow through with their threat of legal action and win their case then if it makes you or anyone else feel better come on and give me a big 'na na na na na'!
All I am saying is that from what I have been told there is substance to their story and a legal challenge is not expected.

Agree fully when you say that Martin O'Neill's move here was good for him and us. Another decent British manager at a crossroads that could benefit with a move here, and we'd certainly benefit from his work, is Mark Hughes.
I like the way his teams refuse to be bullied and that's essential in the SPL. The way he got his Welsh and Blackburn sides to punch above their weight would bode well for us in Europe too.
Even if Mowbray did turn things around, his powderpuff approach to the EPL makes me fear the worst in the CL.
Making Skoosh captain might be the making of him - lets hope so. But In six months he enters the last year of his contract. So its either a contract extension or sell him then.

"My information is that Traynor and the Record are on solid ground with this one hence the reason for Traynor's bullishness/arrogance in the immediate aftermath of the 'in the hands of our lawyers' comment by the club."
So you'll be in the camp which considers Scott Brown's appointment to Captain as nothing more than a knee jerk desperate attempt to lend weight to Tony Mowbray's stance over the "story", not a carefully considered & long thought over decision as part of our manager's long term plan?
I'm interested in the whole "my information" aspect of your post.

Regarding the Jackson/Brown story - as far as I remember Celtic didn't say they were taking legal action, merely that they were seeking legal advice.
At this stage that legal advice seems to have been "you'se huvnae a leg to stand on".
kingoh
i'm not arguing with you, merely pointing out that nothing that has been said or done would lead me to believe the story is true. even if we dont follow through with legal action it doesnt mean there was substance to the story.
i make it a rule of thumb that i dont believe a word i read in the daily record. i'll believe what celtic tell me every time, if that makes me naive then so be it, i know who i trust more.

Not arguing either. I have not even bought a record this century apart from the 2 'Kano' stories last year. I have no love of tabloids and consider them lowlife. However, it doesn't take away from my belief that there is a substance to this story and Celtic will make no more noise about legal action.
My opinion would normally be the same as yours. Unfortunately I have been told differently on this particular occasion.
St Mirren show us how to neutralise the other mob - well-organised midfield and defence and fight for everything. The difference beteen StM and us? We now have the finishers to kill them off. We will do this!!

At the start of the season Celtic supporters( myself included) claimed our defence is crap. TM makes wholesale changes. Same with the midfield and attack. What we need is a penalty box striker. TM delivers. One game with HIS team results in defeat by Kilmaarnock. Get rid of the manager we shout.I noted in the summer there was not a rush of managers queing for the post and also that our first choices weren't in a hurry to accept the poison chalice. IMO Our best current XI in a 4-3-1-2 formation.
IMO:
- Artur is best keeper at club;
- Unless Rogne is any better, Loovens gets nod ahead of Thompson and O'Dea (although I'm not a huge fan...);
- Ki gets nod over Crosas as he appears more direct and I feel that this is what we lack from the midfield - Brown should also be given license to join the attacks and get ahead of the ball;
- McGeady in the 'hole' as he is wasted out on the touchline. Let him run at defences - the movement of the front 2 is very good and will create more space for him to advance or commit defenders to leaving them (strikers) unmarked and, providing McGeady can lift his head, will find more scoring opportunities with Aiden in this role;
- Fortune has shown enough promise recently to merit a run in the team...providing he keeps hitting the target.

I posed a question regarding your opinion of the matter, do you believe Brown has been appointed to Captain as a reaction to the record's story or do you believe Mowbray when he says he had no plans whatsoever to exclude Brown from his plans?

I really don't KNOW if the appointment was a reaction to the Record story but my OPINION is that it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the record story influenced all this. Mowbray making a stand perhaps. Just an opinion mind.
As for the legal action, people hint at having inside info all the time on this site. Some you choose to believe, some you don't. It's your choice. I'm not going to lose sleep over you not believeing me.What I will say is that it is not pure speculation. Again, no need to believe me on that either.
Paul, I really hope that I'm mistaken about Brown and that giving him the captaincy will act as a catalyst and make him the McStay-esque central midfielder we all hoped we signed from Hibs.
However, I fear that he may never be this player..for me it is a similar sort of scenario as to when recently people were discussing him coming back from injury.
When he has been fit, Brown has brought energy and aggression to our midfield, but little else and even these attributes can sometimes be counter-productive given his penchnat for getting involved or booked.
While I think that his ankle injury inhibited the mobility of his game, I don't think it impacted on the technical side.
When he was fit before..he had no FIRST TOUCH..couldn't SCORE and his PASSING wasn't great...
I'm not sure that bestowing the captaincy on him will alter these facts, why would it??
The problem is that for us, Brown has to be the dynamic box to box midfielder, the play maker and goalscorer whereas for Scotland he can do hi more accustomed role of grafting and harrying, something which I think accounts for his seemingly better displays for the national team.
I hope I'm proved wrong but for me Brown hasn't got a football brain and being captain will not change this a jot.
Dom
If the advice from the legal team is that the Club cant succeed with any formal action then as Club we have the option to take localised action(s)
The Club appear to feel strongly about the story, and not for the first time with this particular newspaper,
withdraw the advertising revenue,
withdraw their right to access our players/employees
withdraw their access to the stadium,
In essence cut off their oxygen supply
How many of us would like to do that literally to traynor and jackass?
If its a point of principle we are raising this on, then defend the principle.

Che
Brilliant idea. Do the club have the bottle?
If not abundantly clear before, when Lafferty chopped down Hinkel to no response from the Celtic team, it was clear we had no bottle and no battle.
Early appearances suggest Hoiveld will show up for a fight in the coming weeks, Keane likewise. They don't need an armband to show those qualities. Giving Scott Brown the opportunity to be the actual captain gives him no room to hide. I don't doubt he will flourish.
I expect Scott Brown would have taken a booking to sort out Lafferty. Now we need him to raise his game and with him drag a little more from those around him. 10 points is a tall order but we need more than one player wearing an armband to get back into the race.
The Record will defend any action brought against it, it's more a question of whether the substance of the story is attributable to Brown or, for talking sake, just plucked out of nowhere really... and Australian who is now in the NE of England
Broonie may do well as captain let's be frank he can't be any worse than a merry go round or mcmanus.
Tomorrow we should see off the pars and on wednesday we start a round of matches that will define our season.
Hearts will not be easy, greeting face is a good organiser and will be now stamping his ugly imprint on the wee huns.
Aberdeen are needing an upturn in results.
Dundee unt are a very well laid out team with one of the best man managers in scotland now at the helm.

we have faced the poorer teams in scotland and been found wanting. Now is the time for the much wanted improvement.

Just two wee thoughts regards Scott Brown:
Was he not the man that sacked his agent for trying to talk him out of Celtic?
Was he not the player who, not once, but twice, went out of his way to aid Martin Kane a Celtic Supporter from Perth W.A.
Scott Brown can hold his head high and I hope he does so until his dying day. I hope everybody else who passes comment on his – suitability – does so having lived a portion of that bhoys life.
I pray to my God that the bigotries and the prejudices that exist within our support are just bitter, though minor and minority – plukes - on an otherwise pristine support.
The huns are raging that a perceived one of them is now the captain of Celtic… they are astounded of protruding foreheads and their reasoning has gone feral.
What will the media make of Scott in time?
Might mean nowt but brown to some of you, however, to me... an attack on one is an attack on all.
Good Luck Mr. Brown, a true ghost of Culloden, I admire the road you have chosen and I for one - without hesitation - would love to walk along it beside you. I could teach you a few words to a few songs that would have the huns in uproar, and a few more too in intensive care. Such is the serious life of morons.

Scot Brown captain??
THUD! Another nail hammered into his own coffin by BTM.
I'm underwhelmed by this, especially having met the delightful Scot myself.
Robbie Keane not handed the armband merely confirms to me that Tony had as much a say in his arrival at CP as WGS did with Roy Keane.
Granted, options are thin, but there is only one player who commands respect amongst them and that is Robbie. Plus he has an idea of what Celtic mean to the fans.
Really looking forward to Wednesday and the response from the team. Kamara's comments in the linked article at the top of the page is a massive worry. This team has NO right to believe ANY match is won untill they have shown an iota of consistency.
Also, I'm sick to the back teeth of hearing what a decent man Tony Mowbray is, as if it influences the harsh reality of football.
The man has shown a ruthless streak by jettisoning many players from the club (which on the whole I'm pleased with).
John Barnes was prob a nice guy too. Who cares. Tony will be judged solely on his achievements for me.
Huge banana skin tomorrow for the manager. A loss and it's all over for him.

Captain Brown? - Officer material? A case of Hobson's Choice, I would say.
We need a steady, reliable and organised leader on the pitch. Not necessarily the best, but someone who can lead men. In amongst McManus, Robson and Caldwell we had such qualities, flawed though all three were as players.
We lack these qualities now. Maybe Brown will grow into such a leader. However, in my view a Celtic captain should not be appointed on a wing and a prayer.
Around sixty years ago Celtic bought a player then plying his trade in South Wales that no-one would have described as a world beater. He brought those leadership qualities we sadly lack today.

Making a loan signing captain would have given out a message of desperation. Plus there's already enough pressure on Keane as it is.

"Its hard with them but it would be harder without them" my father once told me.
We were discussing children but could easily have been talking about the team we both love.
At the start of the season I was strongly of the opinion that the manager should be given the entire season and then be judged.
I am still strongly of that opinion.
To take a dysfunctional team and in the course of 6 months, work out who to play, how to get them to play, who to sell, how to improve the players individually and as a unit, which positions need support, who gets new contracts, all while not only winning but winning well is quite an ask my friends.
While we might have the highest wage bill in the league the playing stock at the start of this season was very poor to average.
Every department except goalkeeping needed major, major surgery.
To win the league playing well with "only" these issues would have been a feat.
But throw into the mix other factors which have, for one reason or another, confronted the manager,,
A sustained campaign of being on the wrong side of some inexplicable decisions by officials
A media lead drive determined to help out the establishment club by printing everything about you, your player's, and your club in a negative light 100% of the time
Your star signing gets injured almost right away.
Most of the "old guard' of undroppable players dont like now suddenly being under intense scrutiny or your training methods so the dressing room splits
The fans relationship with the board is openly hostile leading to a lack of feel good atmosphere at home games so the crowd are quicker to turn on players.
Your closest rival’s while financially stricken are lead by a seasoned campaigner who has gelled them into a hard to beat unit.
And then on top of that pure simple luck has deserted the club entirely .I don’t think the club has had one single ounce of luck under the gaffer, not one iota.
And in football luck is quite a help.
After the second game against the beggars, I realised, and posted, that Tony wouldn’t win the league this year but I didn’t hold him responsible.
When Shaun Maloney got scythed down in the box clear as day we were the better team, had them under the cosh, were going to score that penalty, push on while they were down and I’m telling you I think we would have walked away with 3 points.
When thug Laffable tried to dismantle Hinkels ankle and then without even a word walks away and wink's, my mind went back to a sideways Alan Thompson tackle that might have warranted a booking receiving a straight red for being "malicious".
If that tackle wasn’t malicious what is?
And to top it off he's involved in the equalizer.
A demoralized ,contained and re-arranged team would have fell to wave after wave of attack and lacking their tall target man outball I doubt they would have coped.
To me these are the two instances that look like costing us the title, but in particular the Maloney non pen. To have walked out of Mordor with 3 points would have been a hammer blow, lifting our fans and team spirit. Remember we were on a run then and looking very much in the title hunt.
Goals change games my friends.
Had that penalty been awarded that afternoon(instead of the next day)we would in all possibility be on our rightful place at the summit looking down at the challengers.
Our good host has posted that we are right back where we where with John Barnes.
Luck deserted Barnes also but to me that is were the comparisons end. The team he walked into was far superior than our currents managers initial crop of player.
He hadn’t half the problems the big man is facing. Everything that could go wrong for Tony’s team has.
But what does Tony do in the face of such adversary?
WGS obviously surrounds himself with familiar faces and keeps to what he knows, thus the failure of his 4th year.
Our manager goes on a ruthless purge and ditches a useless defense and reinforces every area.
No fan who seen the remnants of a side that he inherited could blame him. I, like many, have applauded his boldness and the shrewdness in using available resources.
When life throws all it has at you, which it certainly seems to be at big Tony, different characters deal with it in different ways. Some turn to drink, some to God, some crumble. A smart man will knuckle down and work hard, perfect the basic’s and keep belief in yourself and your system, knowing that the odds say that soon a corner will be turned and the breaks will go your way.
I certainly don’t share the opinion that he should get animated because he’s under severe pressure,, football management is a severe pressure job. In fact it could be argued that to start ranting, jumping up and down on the sidelines would be a strong sign that the pressure has gotten to him, and if he’s telling the players to believe in themselves and then showing signs of buckling himself,, well what message of belief and strength of resolve would that be from your leader.
No,, actions speak louder than words, and Tony’s actions in this transfer window have roared.
While it might be a fact that we are now in the same place we were with John Barnes, “facts are stubborn things” as John Adams said.
I wont quote you any facts, but I will tell you all some things I know,,
We have the best squad in the league
We can only get stronger
Bad luck doesn’t last forever
Overcoming adversary is character building
Players usually take time to settle and perform to their peak
To say the manager is solely to blame for our current league position would very inaccurate
The way the team performs for the next 10 weeks will tell us all we will need to know about the manager.
I’ve a feeling some people will be surprised.

Things may not be perfect but I know which team will get... BETTER?
Blog Police - I like your thinking. It has to be said that TM has been incredibly unlucky and this has not helped him, he has also been victim of some shocking refereeing decisions, the results of which really have shaped the season in the way you describe.
He has made some glaring errors and these have been highlighted by the lack of luck.

Cheap shots at my team and/or those who play for them do not go down well with me.
Healthy, constructive criticism I am more than happy with.

Kingoh:
Your personal vendetta against Tony Mowbray (to me he does deserve the respect of a first name too) is well documented.
However, what he did for Hibernian Football Club against - whomsoever - is his business. He was doing what he thought best for Hibs; he was under no obligation to serve the cause of Celtic… then.
I am sick and tired, I can’t emphasise that enough, I am sick and tired of how we so enthusiastically tear ourselves apart.
I long for a company of true men, bold men, determined men; men not of vision, but of simple heart pumping commitment. I like being part of a crowd that has good on its side, I like being at the back of that crowd and watching in awe at its glory. I like it better when the crowd had pragmatism as a trait. I am saddened when good men are cancered with prejudice beyond cause or reason.
It does exist Kingoh, believe me, it does exist, there is glory without a trophy and there is honour in a brotherhood of good men.
I am a Celtic Supporter, as thick and simple as; with that goes my obligation to support not only my club and its ethos but the underlying morals too.
I know that in your eyes Tony Mowbray crossed a line, I know he did too, but it was Hibs that payed him to do it.
What would you be saying now if it came out that Celtic had paid him more to do otherwise?
Was in the bookies betting on the Irish Lotto. I looked up at the screen to see that a horse called Dan Breen was running and had odds of 5/1. Hmm thinks I, bet you Stars has predicted that one, I would always go for a horse with a name like that but it broke my usual rule of being under 10/1. I hummed and haaa'd and decided, na, I'll leave it, stick to my silly wee lotto bet.
D'oh
All this anti-Mowbray stuff on the blog and I'm yet to hear a viable alternative suggested( i refuse to take the McGhee/ Hughes one seriously!). The only one I could really countenance is mark Hughes but I'm sure we all know that he would only be here until the next EPL club comes in for him and then we'd be right back where we started and remain a team in transition for the forseeable future.
It's easy to point the finger at whats wrong. Not so easy to say what to do about it.
I am firmly in the pro-Mowbray camp but would welcome better ideas if anyone has them. The sticking the boot in thing is getting very tiresome and is way too easy for people who know nothing about managing a club like Celtic.
Owen Coyles mother/aunty/granny/dog need not apply!

As for all the rest of the posters who are spouting negative stuff about our manager/choice of captain etc,get real,we are Celtic, our manager, our captian,as supporters we have no choice but to get behind them, and support them,if it fails,we then can castigate him, but not before, support our club.

We have seen fleeting glimpses of attractive football amongst some really inept and turgid stuff. The tactics are non existent and the motivation seems designed for close doors.
Frankly Strachan was more engaging than our present incumbent who looks and acts like he would rather be somewhere else.
I was never a fan of Strachan’s football but he would do better with this team than Anton MOR. In fact so would both Mark and john Hughes, Lambert and the cardigan.

re the game
For me we need to get four in midfield and win more second balls ,Ki and Landry were left exposed against killie I hope TM has learned a lesson there .I would drop Aiden to the bench solidify the midfield and make dunfermline work for every ball .
If our fullbacks can give us width in attack this should give us a dominance to press high up the pitch .
This also leaves Tony the option to drop the 6 winger approach if we need to chase the game ,he will have 2 to bring on against a tired opposition .

I think Brown has to earn his place in the team. I think we will be picked to start games due to being Captain despite form, much like the McManus situation the past few seasons. If he takes the place of Ngumeo, Ki or Crosas it would be a mistake, if he is to play the only role is right midfield.
I mentioned that he was told by the manager not to go to T in the Park last year and he went and didnt make much of an effort to keep it a secret.

We need Brown back in the team. People have been unfair on him his form earlier this season was poor but that was because he was injured. As the Kilmarnock game showed we're light in midfield and dropping one of the wingers for Brown would bring a better balance to the team. Our best form this season was when we had a midfield of McGeady, Crosas, N'Guemo and Robson. I see Brown filling the Robson role.

'...he was under no obligation to serve the cause of Celtic… then.'
I totally agree. Never said anything different. Your perception of what I said is wrong.
Vendetta? Pretty strong. Do you think that Tony, Big T, BTM, Anton Mor(happy?) gives a rat's erse what I think of him?
'It does exist Kingoh, believe me, it does exist, there is glory without a trophy and there is honour in a brotherhood of good men.'
Totally agree. I was their every step of the way as their 1 became 2 became 3.....became 9 and had the joy of it not becoming 10.
I will say this though and the 2 examples may not be truly comparable. But Fergus/Celts for change? Took nothing to do with them. I was a 'faithfull through and through', 'things will get better' member. Sat in a half empty stadium and then walked past the rebel rousers in the car park. I was wrong to do so. When I see the blind faithers(for want of a better phrase), I despair. I see myself in them. That was me almost 20 years ago.I was wrong then and I believe they are wrong now. It is again time for change. Not the major change that was required then but change nonetheless.
'I know that in your eyes Tony Mowbray crossed a line, I know he did too,'
Not too sure what to make of this one Kit! Are you agreeing with me now after suggesting you weren't earlier in your post?

I accept your point about Scott Brown having to earn his place in the team.
And the problems associated with appointing anyone as Captain.
(As an aside, I've never understood the significance of the role, other than being the first point of contact with the officials during the game.)
Where he, or anyone else, fits into the team is a decision for the Manager.
We all can, and will, have differing views on that from this easy distance.
I take back my 'pathetic' comment.
I read what you said as a 'cheap shot' based on ignorance of the fact that you were referring to something that had already occurred.
I am guilty of jumping in a bit too quickly sometimes when I think someone is just having a dig for no reason.
I can cope with differences of opinion on the whys and wherefores of everything to do with the club.

Don't count me in with your views. Outrageous. This is the trophy that sustained many of us through barren spells. The trophy that was the launchpad of the Lisbon Lions and which apart from the European Cup is the only trophy where we have a better record than our bitter rivals. Its also the only trophy left that we have a realistic chance of winning this season. Don't tell me it doesn't matter. I only hope that the players who wear our jerseys tomorrow don't share your attitude. I like the sound of record holders every time the Cup is mentioned. I for one will not be happy about losing that title.
Over 20 inches of snow here and still coming down. Crazy!
I've got a few issues on whether Scott Brown should be Celtic captain based solely on his game and ability as I'm sure many people do, however I'm also concerned about the off field skirmishes and situations that he has managed to get himself into. I'm worried that any situation that he may get into off the field will be taken to town by the press to give us as much bad publicity as they can.
Also taking an captain's armband off Loovens while he is still on the park will do his confidence and team morale no good whatsoever (is that how you spell it?).
I'll obviously still back the captain and the manager to the hilt.

Caught up with MWD last night. Not sure whether his suffering is down to our team's performance or what! He is lucky, that he will miss the game tomorrow. A game against Dunfermline shouldn't, but does scare me!
Time to pick the team I think.
Right get my hat out of the cupboard and put all my players names in the hat and shut my eyes and pick the first 11. Right that's the team picked. It's ok, Artur/Aiden you're the two square balls! Nudge nudge wink wink
Right, tactics, hands up players where do you want to play today? Who's for left back? Rasmus, fancy a game?
Right finally captain's arm, right Peter get the music on. Everybody sit in circle..time for pass the captain's armband!

ps This must be a dream, Danny Fox has just scored from a freekick!
From the BBC:
Burnley goal: Think a Stuart Pearce special and you're on the right lines. From the right-hand side of the Wets Ham box, debutant Danny Fox curls an absolute screamer into the top corner of Rob Green's net. It's unstoppable in every single possible way.
Sacnned to blog so apologies if ive taken people the wrong way. Brown for captain is just another stick for "fans" to beat BTM up with. His / Our Celtic are struggling and we all have our own opinion as to why etc, but for some theyd just pick up on everything he does down to the partin of his hair or whether he takes 2 bottles into the shower, basically if your a Celtic manager down on his luck then its open season. To be honest it says more about those making the comments than the man himself.
From what i can gather, it has to be his way across the board and he wont shirk from it, so he'll either live by the sword or die by it, on current form it will be the latter.
As for Brown all of a sudden being undroppable, is the captain of Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan droppable you betcha they are so again its a mute point to lambast BTM.
I was not enamoured by his appointment and im struggling to keep the faith with him, but i will and those with nothing better to do than find every "fault" with him should find a new hobby, i heard chick young and Ned Flanders are looking for Ghostwriters.
On Brown for the captain, at last someone may stick up for us against those MinB

Nope deadly serious, I've still got the letter kicking about somewhere.
Of course you are correct, Fergus was Chairman, Brian Quinn merely the Chief Executive, who chose to reply to my letter, that was simply addressed to anyone at Celtic that would listen
The point of my post, was merely that The Daily Record and Celtic have history, in the perfect world I'd ban them.
Celtic don't and won't because we use them to advertise, much like the joint sponsorship, there was, is, and potentially never will be anybody at Celtic big enough to take them head on.

Ah must point oot..that is is essential that Wan must

The Phrase..."Hobson's Choice", seems to have been

And..
I..knowing, the Meaning of the Phrase...

Most of My readers, although, NOT Fully Knowing..the True Meaning of the

A Classic Case of Arriving at the Correct Reason for an Action,

The Wrong Reason!

wasting Time in the Selection Process..as it would and wiz foon
oot tae be a Very Time Consuming Process, if the Potential Hirer
wiz allowed tae Examine, ALL of the Cuddies in the Stable, afore he or she made their Selection...
It had been decided, because of the aforementioned reason..that
Mr. Hobson would only ALLOW.. the Potential Hirer , to be Given
The Cuddie who wiz in the STALL..
NEAREST THE DOOR!
Noo that Ma Readership, have bin furnished with wit ..
Hobson's Choice.. Really,really, wiz..
Then...
Noo ye know why I am in Full Agreement that
The Appointment of Mr.Brown was, INDEED.. "Hobson's Choice"
Fur..
Mr.Brown, In my considered opinion...
Is the Cuddie... Closest and Nearest to the Celtic Exit Door,in
the Celtic Stable!
Scott, Has been a Deep and Sore Disappointment fur Me..in Most
,if not awe, awe his tenure at Celtic.

we've got a real quandry in midfield and attack now.
I agree Crosas and N'Guemo have been a solid partnership but I'm already a big fan of Ki as a driving attacking midfielder....that boy can spot a pass. And now we've got Cptn Broonie. Will he be on the right with Aiden on the left?
So as far as I can see it, Crosas is going to be dropped in favour of Ki, Zhi we won't see very often and hopefully Mowbray will play Brown on the right of midfield.
I'm sorry for Crosas as I rate him highly.
I think Brown will still come good in that position....less chance for him to shoot and miss.
And then we've got attack......5 strikers.....interesting times....

You calling me a liar?
Blog Police,
I don't contest that Tony has been unlucky or that he has been the victim of some strange decisions or even that he inherited an inferior squad.
I'll start with the squad first. I thought a change of goalkeeper was actually required. 2 new centre halfs 2 centre mids and at least 1 striker. My priorities to go would have been McManus, Brown, Boruc, McDonald, Caldwell in that order. So in some respects he got the outs right. However, he made a mistake in letting Robson go now and also made a mistake in making Brown captain. Caldwell and Mcmanus both going without adequate cover was a mistake but maybe not all down to him. For whats its worth I would also have sold McGeady. I believe we could have got McFadden in a swap for him and McFadden is more direct and captain material.
Fortune has been a mistake. I conceded that the guy is a good palyer but spending 4 million on him when a goalscorer was equal priority to a commanding centre half was bizarre. We have had to wait 4 1/2 months for his partner to arrive and during that time watched chance after chance after glaring chance being missed. Now Keane arrives and we sign kamara and have Rassmussen and we look to be heavily weighted in term of talent up front but completely bereft at the back and in the centre of midfield. I bame the Celtic board for sanctioning the purchase of Keane and perhaps prioritising this over the Spanish centre back who was lined up.
As for the press, they are charged with selling newspapers. they sell more when Celtic do badly. You cant criticise them for doing their jobs. Keevins et al are pantomime dames. The PR battle would not be an issue if Tony was getting results.
Tony has failed consistantly to get results. Rangers have lost one game in the league this season. we have lost five. rangers have two limited individuals up front who has scored 19 and 12 goals each. They have limited resources and a threadbare squad. they are 10 points clear and have not lost to us this season and have beaten Hibs 4-1.
Tony continues to stand with his hands folded taking it on the chin. The Celtic board appointed him just as they appointed Strachan. Both mangerial appointments were mistakes. Celtics resources at present should see us heading to 5 in a row with Rangers in administration. Instead we are promised a master plan that will materialise sometime. I am keeping the faith. I always do. Celtic need a catalyst. Tony Mowbray is a damp squib at the moment.
I see the huns are saying the 'wily old fox' went out for a draw today to get some (much needed) money from the replay .....He He ..!!

Equally, I am disappointed that Scott Brown is still with us. I hope that he turns things around, but I think it is beyond him.
A midfielder who is unable to pass, and unable to tackle, and who doesn't appear to understand that sometimes, a team needs to keep its shape...is well, not really a midfielder at all.

Brown is a great choice for captain.
He will supply energy, running and passion
From the centre he will give us a spark.

He's wondering why I'm giggling like a loon
As for Broony as Captain, I'm happy to give it a go. He's a battler and we need that just now; he'll be in the faces of the opposition and the Refs.
Notthebus.......absolutely, he has nothing to do with them being 10 points ahead...I was being sarcastic !!.....the players are playing for their very futures, with a little help from their 'friends'.....but,hopefully, the far superior squad we now have can get the finger out.......they were dross today, as they have been in most games this season (despite their 'great' manager)....our new players need to acclimatise rather quickly, now !!!!! ...can they do so....your guess is as good as mine..!!!

It has been reported that MAF was secured for an initial payment of £1.8 m.
We will only pay £3.8 m if the add-ons kick in (appearences etc).
This would mean he stays with celtic for the entire duration of his contract before we get to that figure.
I will try and find a link
notthebus
Excellent, I've been looking for that.
Thanks
kingoh 5:14 PM
"You're right...Fortune did not cost 4 million.
It was 3.8 million"
I don't believe so.
My understanding is that he has cost us €1.3m, or thereabouts, so far.
If I'm wrong, please enlighten me.
notthebus
your right its 1.8m this year and another 1 million odd next year.
either way he is is a strange one. I personally thought he was ok against killie but the lads standing behind me thought he was the devil incarnate!
Hail Hail
Please tell me i just heard Phil Thompson wrong - Fox didnt score a free-kick did he? And got an assist?
Cowgate lad
'My understanding...' From where? Any reports I read mentioned 3.8 or undisclosed believed to be in the region of 3.8. Perhaps notthebus will enlighten us both. Not saying your wrong, just what I remember.
kingoh
your also right!
The club have stated 3.8m because i think that is what he will eventually cost over 3 years and we are committed to paying that. But, In this years budget i presume we paid around the £1.8m mark.
Hail Hail
Eustace P Merryweather
You got a link to that? Best I can find is stv reporting 2.5 mil.
By bournesouprecipe on February 6, 2010 5:10 PM
dont waste your time.
Eustace P Merryweather
So ultimately the left back who started the debate isn't that far off with his 4 mil either!!!
kingoh 5:26 PM
From my memory of the terms of the deal at the time as reported in the Non-Scottish Non-Tabloids.
But my memory isn't what it used to be.
I think notthebus may be closer to the mark.
But it sure as blazes isn't what those professionals who 'report' on such matters up here would have you believe.
I believe the crux of the discussion on MAF is that so far none of us would be too happy if 3.8 mil was in fact paid for him!!
Hola
Sorry non Celtic post.
Noticed there a few gamblers on the site,if anybody is interested here's a long term[a whole season] gamble that actually works. For this to work you will need between 4 & 10 or more commited people,or less if they have a few bob.
We started with 5 people at the begining of the season, each put in 100 euros,500 pot straight away, pick a league any league you wish,we chose the 1st div in Scotland,I was out voted 3-2,I wanted Seri A,the conservatives among us won out, this proved to be incorrect as we would have won more than we did if we had gone with Seri A.
Also this is very important,we each put 20euros a week into the pot, reasons will become clear.
One of the people in our little circle has had a bookies shop in Rathcoole,Dublin, for 35 years, till he retired last year,Paddy Power now leases his shop,I digress.
This does not work on footballing ability,it works on numbers.
This is how it works..
Eg Seri A
20 teams= 10 games...you then bet on every game to be a draw.you will always get better than 2/1 on the draw.
We started with 2 euros on each team.
10 games,20 teams=40 euros
If the game does not end in a draw the next week you double the stake on the team.
EG..2.4.8.16.32.64.125.250.500.1000...and on
When they do draw that team then starts again..back to 2 euros.
You can have say 64 on one team & 250 on the other.
You will need 2 things for this to work...money...but we found over 5 seasons that the original 500 pot and the 100 every week more that covered the money....The most important thing you will need is balls, big balls.
One week we had 4000k on one team 32 on the other, just so happened it was top v bottom...odds were 4/1...this is where the balls come in...we went for it..no draw we had no money left...just so happened 0-0 happy days.
This is a very unusal occurance,as most teams will draw within 10 games, over the season teams in any league draws on average 26% of their games...obviously some more, some less.
Now all you stat people..I'm sure you will look at this, but I can only say for us it worked and still does.
Because the odds are always more than 2/1 you always win more than you have lost..in the first season we each won 2600euros...pot was still intact as was the 20 a week we each put in...the next 4 seasons we didn't win as much, averaged 1200 euros each...still had the pot each season, and the 20 a week which, for me paid for a good holiday for me and the moher.
Remember this works on the law of averages,as with anything, nothing is a certainty, but this works...we even had a bookie in our little team, and yes he was the real conservative one,he also is a chartered accountant,it was with his knowledge and blessing we started this and it is still going strong.
The only problem we had was, when the bookie we were betting with sussed out we were doubling up,they refused our bet,so we had to spread the bets around different shops,so all you gamblers, you have untill next season to work it all out,any questions please ask...
But I will bet you one thing, not one of you will come back to me and say this does not work.
Maybe will bet you something else...TM will get it right.

you are correct but i do sense he will partner keane up front.

Fortun'e has, in my opinion, been our best player in the past few games. After being out injured for a while he is geting a run of games and now showing his true form.
What we need is other players to read his turns and his runs, then to get on the end of things. He ca supply a few goals if others are on his wavelength.

TET, I am not a gambler, but I will say that your maths are spot on. Sometime back, I figured out that, eventually, and inevitably, certain things are bound to happen. You just don't know when.
I had used a 2-1 win as the inevitable event. I don't know whether a draw is an event that occurs more often, but I suspect that you are right.
Anyway, as I said, I am not a gambler...but good luck to you!

"Noticed Serie A have had some amount of draws this season.
5 out of 10 quite a few weeks and 6 out of 9 last week, theres got to be a way to make money out of that...
Worked out if you pick 8 games and cover any 5, any 6, any 7 and all 8 with 93 bets at 10p each.
Spend £9.30 and taking odds of 2/1 you could get £25ish for five, £290 for six, £1700 for seven, £7700 for all 8.
Ive got five draws picked from Italy, one in Spain and one in France tomorrow, going to give it a try."
Only problem was last time I tried it the only draw was a team I had picked to win.
EN
Hola
Weeronn/PFayr
The 1 and and only advantage you have over the bookie is that every game starts at 0-0.not 2-1,also quite a few games end 0-0.
As for doubling up,you have to,so you can recoup the money already bet,as you always get better than 2/1 you always win twice what
you loose,so say you have 250 on a team,it draws at 9/4,you have already staked and lost 250 on that team,so you always win what you have lost and are 250 minimum to the good.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this already, but Danny Fox had a cracking game for Burnley today - scoring a great goal from a free-kick.
Which begs the question... Why did he never do that for us?!
I'm starting to wonder if Anton Mor lacks the necessary management skills to get the best out of the players at his disposal. I would argue that we have a far superior squad of players to that manky mob accross the city - why haven't we played like it all season?

As I said last night Norwich had to eventually lose and it was today so WTF did I take them. I also tipped Ipswich/boro for a draw last night which I was going to put onto the accum so WTF did I not.
I done the goals galore type coupon in Hills today wher eyo uca nactually pisk if the 2 teams are not going to score as well. So instead of jsut picking 7 for goals galore I picked 5 for goals and 2 where boths teams would not score. Hibs and Dundee games. All 7 had both teams scoring.
I need to give up this gambling...

When I agree with you that gambling is a mug's game, this does not work on the Maringale System. That system derives from gambling in casinos, where the house can do what the feck it wants....draws happen in football...an average of 26% of games in the league over the season are drawn...this is not meant as a way to make loads of money, but as a way to have a punt, enjoy it,and doing it this way you will not loose your b**locks.

I have to agree with you on Tony´s shortcomings. If you are finding it hard to get goals and then one of your new lads (Rasmussen) bags one 3 minutes after coming on as a sub, to get you a vital 3 points, then he is a stickon to start the next game. No matter who you have signed the team comes first. Robbie Keane has nothing to prove to anyone so why throw him into the deep end 24 hours after the media circus, away to lowly Kilmarnock? Better to have kept him for the home game against Hearts where he would be bursting a gut to score on his debut in front of a big Celtic support with Rasmussen breathing down his neck on the bench.
We are not getting it right.
I would probably go along with mcgraininspain and kojo that Scott Brown's appointment is a bit of a Hobson's choice. I wish him all the best though.

He's gone and made me captain, was it Hobson's choice?
Why he went and choose me, maybe the loudest voice,
I don't know know why he did it, haven't got a clue,
Tried to find out on the internet, googled on yahoo.
He said I've not to worry, just play my usual game,
Don't bother with accurate passing, keep it just the same,
When you go into the tackle, make sure you go right through,
Forget about good ball control, anything will do.
Your now the captain, the leader on the park,
Don't bother with the football, I want to see some spark,
I want to see you running, get yourself about,
When we sell you in the summer, we'll get a good turnout.

Tottenham-Aston Villa isn't half dull in the greatest league ever in the history of football.
Asia is obsessed with the EPL. Wall-to-wall drunk-sounding has-beens in studios in Singapore and Hong Kong pontificating about Hull City’s home form and all manner of nonsense.
Bored to the point of almost not liking football any more, I turned to TV5 Monde and a cracking game in which the Celts of Lorient are giving Paris St Germain (nice name, but they have Rangers as a feeder team, so ‘boooo’) a drubbing at the Parc des Princes. It's 0-3 after 40 minutes, and I missed the third after turning back to see if the English game had improved any (it hadn't).
PSG, Jérémie Clement et al, should have been 1-0 up. They had a perfectly good goal chalked off. I think the ref is monsieur le médecin, Dr Etienne Conroy. Then the Celts ran all over them.
Lorient goalie, Fabien Audard, is magic. He must weight 100 kilos and is a big baldy monster. He's throwing himself at everything, especially at PSG inswinging corners. He gets two fists on it and then takes out anyone in front of him. Big fat goalies rock.
Brown as captain is perhaps the final piece of the puzzle as TM builds his own team.
Unlike his transfer targets, it could be argued that he was woefully short of candidates. Brown's appointment is causing a few arguments and disagreements, but I have yet to see a viable alternative proposed.
We are bereft of leaders on and off the park. We have no one who could fill the role as club representative.
Maybe that is due to the number of players who have been brought in from overseas. Or perhaps it's a result of the big money on hand for today's professional football gypsy.
The next 3 or 4 months will determine whether Tony has made the right signings and decisions and whether the team he moulds is fit for purpose.
If it does he will become a Celtic legend. If not he will be a one season manager.
In the meantime it's our responsibility as fans to provide the man with some time to do his job and give him the respect due our manager.

I mean, fair play to you for being optimistic, but if you're actually picking out the Texas CD and putting it on, it's not really that spooky.
Spooky is me walking back from the vigil Mass in Ho Chi Minh City singing the Tony Mowbray song and logging on five minutes later to CQN to find that Abmucker has posted the words on here (all two of them).
Abmucker has the same surname as me, but we're not related and I'm not sure if it means anything. Still, that's a wee bit more spooky than you choosing the same CD as you did in 2008.
Just a simple question. For all the bloggers who are saying give Tony time with his team even though he has been here 6 months did you say the same thing with Gordon when we did not win his first 2 games? Maybe that should be a poll.

Sorry do not agree. Political appointment.

Hello hello.
I haven't really kept up with the Valencia story this year so far, but their financial situation has not improved. The debt is around €500 million.
All the talk is that David Silva will go to Barcelona at the end of the season and that David Villa will go to Chelsea.
Why are they still there?
I guess because any offer Valencia received in this window just gone was for nowhere near enough money. Both Chelsea and Barcelona seem content to wait. Valencia seem to have accepted that both must go, but they want top dollar.
If Scott Brown is indeed, captain material, why was he not more convincing when asked about the conversation with TM?,for me,TM flatly denied any such chat took place,i cannot say the same for SB's response,at best,he seemd unsure how to answer, which undermined the mangers position.I absolutely believe TM,and i hope this appointment is not just a sop,put out to assure us of unity, imo, nothing SB has done as a player, spells Celtic captain.
Celtic_First
Are you travelling round the world these days:o)
I asked as it surprises me that they don't appear to have agitated for lucrative moves to any of the wealthier (not necessarily bigger) clubs in the big leagues and perhaps have missed out on huge earnings.
Hi All,
Does anyone know how long Andreas Hinkel and Jos Hooiveld are likely to be out?
Bhoy From The Boyne.
Ooh là là.
The crowd in the Parc des Princes start giving it: “Kombouaré, démission”.
He brought off main striker Guillaume Hoarau and brought on wee Ludovic Giuly. An hour gone; it's still 0-3.
Next the crowd start shouting: “Luis, Luis, Luis, Luis … .”
They want Luis Fernandez back.
Luis is in the frame for the French national team job. Hope he gets it. Nothing against Raymond Domenech, really, but if you call your wean Merlin you have to have question-marks over you.
Mr.Mowbray's Appointment of Mr. Brown as the New Captain, may or may NOT Be a Wise Decision.
And.. It is the, May NOT be a Wise Decision, part. that
bothers Me.
Fur..
Anyone with a Modicum of Un Common.. Common Sense..
Would First.. study how FAST or How Slowly... a Person Walked..
Before, he would Ask that same person.. this Question..
"How long would it Take,by walking, to Reach the Wailing Wall?"
Fur that is a Dumb Question..
if the Questioner had not first Ascertained .. How FAST or How Slowly.. the Person he was Asking.. actually .. well.. WALKED!!!
The Same type of Reasoning should have bin practised by Mr. Mowbray,
BEFORE.. he offered the Celtic Team Captaincy to Mr.Brown,
Mr. Brown is freshly returning from a long lasting and niggling
type of injury.
One that May or May not have been the Root Cause of his Poor Performances for us.
Thererfore.
The Intelligent thing to do, would be.. for. Mr. Mowbray to have Awaited until Mr. Brown had had a Few Outings, and in that way..
Mr.Mowbray would have been able to ascertain whether, Mr. Brown
having,by then, provided a Plethora of Evidence.. One way or Another..
as to his Suitability to be awarded such an Important Position.
Maks sense tae Me.

I hope this proves to be the making of Scott Brown and we get the player we thought we were getting.

I'd like to ask a serious question if y'all don't mind. This especially affects all the bhoys here in the north.
Now that Robbie Keane has actually signed - abeit temporarilly - does anybody think that RTE might now show Celtic games over Manure, l/pool etc if we reach (and i known its a big IF) the champions league next year? Considering the support Celtic have on this island it really does sicken me how much they salivate over EPL teams, their atitude towards us at times makes them sound as though they are actually English and not Irish (no offence meant to any Englishmen).
Like i say,i know it's a big IF but i'd just like to hear others opinion. Sorry if this has been asked already.

Whilst everyone is entitled to their opinion it is very disappointing to hear Celtic fans saying things like 'is he smart enough to open a tin of beans?' By all means have an opinion but I don't think that kind of personal abuse is necessary.
Hope tomorrow we develop a bit pragmatism. 3 points a must. I hope we don't fall into the trap of trying to play all our new forwards in the same team. Feel that would be a recipe for disaster.
Would play Rasmussen up on his own with Keane and n'guemo on opposite points of a midfield diamond with Brown, Crosas and Ki in the middle.

what is the stars,
Hi, me again. Not trying to badger you but: ''the man doesn't know what he's doing''
How do you know this?
Perhaps a more accurate statement would be that YOU don't know what he's doing?
Evening all,
I cant believe that the old "captain" debate is still burning away.
Let me ask you a question...
Does it really matter who is the captain?
I've played football to a pretty high standard and I can't actually remember who was captain in a lot of the teams I was in???
Some would say that I've just lost a lot of brain cells over the years but I personally think that it simply wasn't important enough to remember.
Lets see what we all think at about 2pm tomorrow.
Or what's in the stars, he did tell Brown to leave then, after the dross we've produced & sh&*e results, had a second thought that maybe the best way to deflect the story would be to make captain. A double bluff, if you will.
WITS
Broonie is our 5th captain of the season...says it all for me!

Bhoy from The County Hell.
Again thats only my opinion of him based on what I have seen so far and on what he did last year at West Brom.
The final straw for me was last Tuesday.25 minutes left 2 strikers on the bench in a must win game and he brings on a midfielder who has not played in 3 months and puts him left full.
Ok I admit I dont know what he is doing, maybe he does but my opinion is that he doesnt.
Can you explain last tuesdays substitution to me.
Now I could go on but I wont.
You support Tony Mowbray thats fine
I dont,I would like to see him leave the job before he does any more damage,I accept that the earliest he will leave will be at the end of May and I have prepared myself for celtic finishing third.
I am sorry we dont concur on this but thats life
Vinibhoy - TMs vision will soon be clear.
I agree, wrapping a piece of cloth around someones arm doesn't make him a captain.
Natural leaders don't need to be told.
The problem is Celtic at this moment in time are berft of natural leaders on the pitch. They have been for some time.
to lift my spirits last night i decided to watch the bhoy who would be king.
i watched that video and larssons goals i dont know how many times and the composure he had in front of goal was fantastic -shape to put the ball in one corner then at the last second dink it over the keeper.
Oh to have Henrik on the end of some of the chances we create now a days.
I am sure we will have many chances again tomorrow - Keane/Kamara or anyone for that matter - take our chances and get us on the road again
I believe Scott Brown will have a year left of his contract in the summer, that being the case you would have thought we would have started talks about an extension?
If not then we must be hoping to sell him or he is hoping for a move.
celtictom
Keep it coming mate, being both reasonable and correct won't make you popular on here in the current climate, which, in itself, must be viewed as a positive.
We all have opinions, right or wrong, but honestly held - don't have any problem with that.
Can anyone please explain to me some form of justification for the so many "definitive" opinions being posted at the moment?
Of those with such crystal clear vision can you please identify yourselves :
Are you currently an extremely successful professional footballer in the SPL or at a higher level?
Are you currently an extremely successful manager as above?
Are you a proven master at handling the responsibility of managing a club of Celtic's stature?
It goes without question that you are also a master at PR and interacting with that which pretends to be the press in Scotland.
Apart from yourselves, does anyone else believe you have a clue what you are talking about?
Too many people on here - whilst I would never question their sincerity - seem to support their view of what Celtic should be, in their own opinions, rather than support Celtic as we are and in the environment in which we find ourseleves.
Shall we win the league this season? Don't know, but still hopeful.
The next few seasons are looking pretty good in my opinion.
What's going to happen with Rangers? Don't know, don't care. As a Celtic supporter with no need to denigrate anyone - I only see opponents - what makes them so special? Same 3 points for a win and titles are not won on bragging rights.
As usual, never apologetic
Cheers

thought you where going out tonight?
As far as Scott Browns intelligence goes, I think it is fair to say he is not perhaps as smart of some of the erudite chappies on here.
However, I think that applies to the vast majority of football players.
There are exceptions of course. I believe Gerry 'Jelly' Briton is studying law, Shaka Hislop has some type of astro-physics degree and Ian Cameron spent the morning of the scottish cup final in 1987 doing an accountancy exam, before turning out for St. Mirren in the afternoon.
However, as I said the vast majority of football players, whether they are our heroes, or our villains, would be driving mini cabs if they didnae have such brains in their feet.
To quote Jason MacAteer, when he spied Jimmy White in a London pub a few years back, he waved to Jimmy, mimiced a snooker player cueing up a shot, and shouted,"Jimmy, Jimmy One-Hundred-And-Eighty!!!'
I put my hands up as a Scott Brown fan. Yes he has not played well this season, but it looks like he has been playing with an injury.
To say he hasn't played well for us is nonsense. The guy only last season was voted player of year by his fellow pro's they type of guys since they play the game must know a player when they see one.
However - I'm dead against making him captain. The guy has been out for over three months, and in one fell swoop the manager has put unneccessary pressure on the lad. Let him try and get back up to match fitness first. Instead he is going to be under more scrutiny than is necessary.
Easy choice for Captain. Keane. He can handle it, and is being paid the bucks. If he was looking for the armband to increase performance levels, Artur would surely hace been a shout.
Unfortunatley, as I hate saying it about a decent man, but I fear it's another poor decision by the manager.

what is the stars,
It's fine that you don't like Tony Mowbray as manager and of course your opinion is every bit as valid as anybody elses.
The problem I have is with peoples need to repeat this ad nauseum.(I appreciate you are not the worst offender here)
If somebody wants the manager gone then they should say so, say why, then move along.
This blog at the moment resembles a mob picking on every and any reason they can find to have a go at our manager and most of the time without any knowledge of all the circumstances. It's far too easy to fire cheap shots and back them up with nada!
For the record, I too was baffled by the Scott Brown introduction on Tuesday night but, without being privy to all the info behind the scenes, I will not use it as a stick with which to flog Tony Mowbray.
Hail Hail
AnotherAlex - spot on. Toon many are quick to jump on the 'sack him' bandwagon. Give the man a chance ffs. We may or may not win the league (but please God let us), but the greatest support in the world should at least BACK THE MANAGER - especially when so many of Scotlands finest want him to fail.
Remember when we used to boast that we'd only 10 managers in our history(or words to that effect). It may be an over used cliches byt Rome really wasn't built in a day. Lets get behind this man and bring our club forward...

Interesting about the hunted haunted theory, his demeanour has been widely remarked on since August.
I am sure that Tony Mowbray has looked very uncomfortable since the season began, and therefore the results and statistics are bound to have made him if anything, look less comfortable.
I believe, even if we win in the cup, the next sequence of fixtures, to the end o February are critical for Celtic, and Tony Mowbray's future.
Tony Mowbrays results are a bigger clue, as to how he's doing at Celtic.

Apologies if this point has been made sometime since Tuesday, although I have not noticed it; it was reported on Radio 5 before the Kilmarnock game that for the first time in our history Celtic started a match without one Scottish player. Not one! Now I am not saying that was the reason for the defeat but I will say it was one of the factors. Think about it, Celtic have not lost in the League there since May 2001, that was after the Championship was in the cabinet. The morning after John Collins, on Radio 5 remarked that Celtic traditionally had strong Scottish Captains, he mentioned Billy McNeill, but he could have mentioned Jock Stein, Bobby Evans, Roy Aitken, Paul McStay Paul Lambert or even Kenny Dalglish. Neil Lennon, of course belongs in that company, and so might Scott Brown given time. We need a bit of attitude, he's got it, I believe he will thrive on and off the park.

Uncommon wisdom? No way - dead common and happy with it - just like the majority on here.
Ain't one of the young ones, 68 next month, doesn't give me any more rights, but, possibly, a wee bit more perspective.
Pity you spoiled it with last word - snow.
Here, in southern Sweden, the snow came just before Christmas and the temperature has remained under zero since, so nothing melts.
I have a 3 foot wall round the garden which you can't see, but you can see the 2 feet of snow above, plus on the flower pots, plus on the fence etc. etc. Even the locals can't remember when we had so much snow plus temperatures under zero so long.
Ain't it great just to be a Celtic supporter and part of this wonderful family?

As far as leaders I'd say that we have (when fit)...
Hooiveld/ODea in defence
Broonie in midfield
Keane up front
That's enough for me.
Kojo
I agree about the first name on the teamsheet thing.
It is a worry. I suppose I'm just hoping that Broonie starts playing the way I think he can. In which case his name will be first on the teamsheet in all our eyes.
Can you all just stop the Ki for Crosas nonsense.
We have a central midfield pairing - play them.
(and please none of this strikers as wingers rubbish)...
Broonie has the chance to prove himself and I for one fully agree with TMs comments below:
From the Celtic Website:
Brown returned from injury last Tuesday against Kilmarnock and made his first appearance since October, coming on as a substitute for Lee Naylor. And Tony Mowbray believes this new role will be beneficial to the team and to the player.
“Scott Brown is at the stage in his career where the responsibility will be good for him,” the Celtic manager said.
“I understand Scott’s personality. He wants to win and he wants to be a winner out on the field.
“He pushes himself extremely hard for that and that’s not a bad ingredient to have sometimes. We shouldn’t be criticising him for the fire in his belly.
“When Scott’s fit and available and in the team, then he will lead the team out with the armband on.”
Brown played 60 minutes and scored in the reserves’ friendly against Drogheda on Tuesday night. He scored Celtic’s second in the 3-1 victory and is in the squad for Sunday’s Scottish Cup clash with Dunfermline.

I admire your loyalty to the Celtic Manager and I understand that when all around (not just on this blog) are screaming for his head and many of these ( in the Scottish Press) would be just people with an anti celtic agenda that he should be the duty of Celtic Fans to rally around and support the Manager.
But I cant put my heart into it.
I sincerely hope I am wrong about him and (if so)I will come on here and publicly apologise to him and to your good self and all the other Moybray loyalists on here.

I strongly believe the the Demeanour..and the Facial Appearance of a Man ..is often seen as the Key to his Success in no matter what business..
I have found in my own unique experience, in Business and day to day intercourse with others..
That... Appearance, especially, Facial.. is one of the reasons why one is drawn or repelled to the person in view.
My sainted Mama. always told me..
"Kojo, at all times look after your Looks.. for..
One's Face, is One's Fortune."
I have found that to be so true.
Many a time, I would not have Hired a Particular Individual,if I had gone strictly by her resume...has I not been won over by her looks...
And to a certain extent the same goes for many a Male applicant, as well.
People like.. and are drawn.. instinctively, to
Beautiful People.
And unfortunately, in many a case that is a mistake.
Nevertheless.. it still takes place.
I read somewhere that One of the Israelites.. who happened to button hole Moses, oan the way to the Promised Land..
asked this of the Great Leader..
"Moses.. Ye ur the Ugliest Son of A Guns that I hiv ever Seen.. Gee!.. ye hiv a Kipper that wid turn Soor Mulk .. well .. Soorer!

Think so many are missing the point here about our new captain.
If I recall when WGS was trying to sign SB & KT we were all for this, when the huns got thompson & we got Scott Brown virtually,to a man,we were all saying that we got the better deal...future Celtic Captain...this was said many times,on many sites.
So what is the problem now..I for one can not work this out.
THIS BHOY WILL COME GOOD.
There has been so many people posting as to how responsibility can make a person, give the Bhoy a chance,if he fails ok,but until then, for fecks sake, what are we? agents of the Dark Side.
He is our Captain...TM is our manager...We will win this league.
Never...Never,in all my Celtic supporting life, have I said anything negative about our team/club,I have thought it many times, but I have never uttered it...We are Celtic...Keep The Faith.

I remember the fuss made when, a few seasons back Arsenal fielded a team without one English player, so if Celtic did the equivalent back in the 1990s I would be interested to know the Manager and the line-up if anybody has got it. It is not always a bad thing, Liverpool's starting line-up in the FA Cup Final against Everton in 1986 did not contain one player then eligble to play for England. Steve McMahon was on the bench.

Like many CQN'rs (and probably BTM) I am perplexed, puzzled and ponderous about what our best is.
Various players have staked a claim recently without great success ( Ki, McGinn, Zhi, McCourt, Samaras).
If we reinstate Brown this means that his place is guaranteed in the starting line up when he is fit and available.
Leaving only 3 other positions up for grabs.
NGuemo is a cert - and I agree he should partner Crosas ( But I dont believe BTM thinks this is the way forward)
Leaving on 1 place for McGeady, Kamara, Maloney (when fit again), McGinn, McCourt, Ki, Zhi...
Our small chance of winning the SPL depends heavily on BTM getting this selection headache right but given the options and uncertainty he will do well to get it right without further tinkering.
Im glad Im not in his shoes... Gulp
TTT - aye, he's still raging against the board and insisting that they will get no more of his readies.....but he would kill for a 6-pack of red T right now! :-)

Don't know if these two items have been commented on but they gave me a laugh when I heard them, both on Radio Snyde.
2nd question to Mark Mcghee by interviewer after 6th minute injury tme equaliser by Aberdeen. "Does this result help you keep your job?" Mark starts mouthing something under his breath and cuts interview short but he can be heard saying "F--- Knows" before cutting back to Fat Maquire. Much embarassment in studio. Ned Flanders AKA Keevins starts 10 minute eulogy on how this is not representive of Mark's character etc.
20 minutes later Maquire cues in Ned for an apology - "On ~ 15th Jan in response to a question on Rangers financial situation I stated that the debt and Rangers being in administration was the fault of Sir David Murray. I apologise for this and am happy to state that Rangers are not in administration".
Good to hear Ned getting it in the neck again (Artur Jorge, Martin's libel settlement re Boruc to Villa etc).

I forgot about Hooiveld's injury, hope he is available. No squad news available from the official site or C67.
I see you had Brown in your line up, I think he is probably the only player who could cover for Ngumeo should TM think he needs a rest, I wouldnt have Brown in ahead of Ki or Crosas though. With Brown and Nguemo in the middle there would be no creativity.
Im not sure what TM has in mind for Kamara, the right side of midfield on Tuesday but if we are to play an attacker there we already have McGinn, Brown or McGeady who could play there.

EN - if Hooiveld has 'done' a hamstring, at the very least we will not see him for three weeks, maybe more. Needs that time to heal properly. As a victim of this injury myself I know for a fact it takes time. Rushing back from it causes it to go again and further weaken it. I tore one and strained the other. the strain to the second one happened because I was overcompensating for the injured one after going back to playing football too soon after a horrendously painful tear. I can feel i still!
It puzzles me therefore that Kenny Miller is in and out of the Rangers side despite reportedly having a Hamstring injury. Either the doctors at Eyepox are not very good at diagnosis or there is something strange afoot within the treatment room at Mordor. Without wanting to 'inject' any further rumours about Dignity FC's attitude to the well being of their players (Who mentioned Barry Fergusons repeated Knee injections?)

Good point, best leave him out until he is 100% he is also still coming out of 'pre season'
The Ibrox doctors have always been a source of strange acts much like the rest of the club. Prodan - Yes, Hartson - No etc etc.
I imagine their small squad is forcing them to rush players back, the cup replay can only be good news, their squad will tire in the weeks to come. I dont think they have rested Weir yet, they even played him two days in a row in their pre season friendlies. If we win all games this month while they are tiring we can do it.

What an array of managerial talent lurks in our midst.
What strange quirk of fate gives us this endless, albeit semi-literate, succession of Steins, Cloughs & Shanklys who, although they have never managed the local street team, or indeed a burger van, have the effrontery to ridicule a man who is the highly paid manager of Glasgow Celtic ?
I suppose we should just laugh at our keyboard Quixotes, but sadly their constant criticism feeds more sinister elements who would seek to undermine our club, no matter who was managing it.

Hola

I'm a little bit pissed, but looking at the EPL stats I think you will find that the EPL started in 92/93 & their is only 1 ex Celtic player top scorer in the EPL.If you had said in the 1st div in england different story[sorry the wining mentality is coming out]
Hail Hail
KTF
Gordon_J you got the evil genius. Both were joint top scorers i nthe same year.

I was thinking 'Kelt' in a possible trick question..
I really hope your not kidding and remember our European Cup final win over ManU 2007, Im still celebrating, what a night that was, Athens was amazing......

Sevendouble @ 9:45,
Scott was called Skoosh before he came to Celtic I believe.
I'm told It's a common nickname for someone called Scott.
Kinda suits him though in the Glasgow sense.
When you open a bottle of lemonade...Skoosh...fizzy.
He's that ok :O).
Kojo,i know you have answered me,i read your reply, unfortunately,i am still no nearer enlightenment,if i understand you correctly, there is such a thing as common sense,we agree on that, but, and here is the element i am struggling to comprehend, there is also another, rarer sense, known perhaps only to your self, and it's called, uncommon common sense, and,it is this very rare ability in which TM is lacking. In the interest of furthering my education, could you, when you have a spare moment, give us some examples of this most, uncomon common sense,i now i for one, would like to understand how it works.
Hola
Ok,just read posts about Chris Sutton and I can not see him as top scorer any season in the EPL,obviously being an exile these things take a little longer to filter through,or maybe I'm reading the wrong sites.
Hail Hail
KTF
stopped reading the kds site as the negativity and language put me off this blog is getting me more depressed by the day, think i'll tune into ff can't be much harder to stomach good night to real

James Forrest, thought provoking and challenging as always, please continue your input.
Kitalba at 3.02pm You obviously have personal knowledge of Scott Brown's input to Martin Kane's appeal. As an outside observer, these gestures are not surprising from a man who has endured personal tragedy in a private manner and who would wish to conduct similar charity in private also.
As Celtic supporters, whilst recognising the available, affordable talent from across the globe, we should always embrace the best talent available from our own shores. Be in no doubt, we have the 2 best players to emerge from Scotland in the last 5 years in Aiden and Scott. Either of these are worthy captains of our club and are deserving of our support as a minimum. That Scott was not "one of ours" to begin with but chose to come to Celtic says a lot about him.
Perhaps, and probably, this may not be our year. However, our day and year will come.
KTF, one and all
Sevendouble,
I asked about the Skoosh thing several times back when we signed him and never got an answer.
I can remember interviews with Kevin Thompson and he always referred to him as Broony.
Spanish Football, EPL or Sportscene?
Ben Hutchinsons goal, Dan Fox unbelievable goal or Real Madrid...
Bet Sportscene dont even show our game, typical. Three men in the studio, all huns, guess it will have to be MotD then.
I very rarely comment but I was reading the Irish Times sports section and I was very annoyed by an article written by a Michael Walker ( I think that was what the nobody was called). He ridiculed the state of the game in Scotland, fair enough maybe, but he then said how the EPL would never accept Celtic and referred to the 'rivalry' between Celtic and Rangers. As an example he referred to the firebomb attack on De Beasley's car. I have a simple question. Will anyone take him to task over this? I would love to but what can I do? Is there anyone out there who is brave enough, or clever enough, or powerful enough to make this low life apologise considering the real reason for the attack on De Beasley, which I, as a Celtic supporter condemn.
THE EXILED TIM,
EPL site shows Dublin and Sutton as joint top scorers with Michael Owen in 1997/98 - 18 goals each.

851 for MOTD
if your in Scotland and stuck with Sportscene

What was the reason for the attack on De Marcus Beasley car
Pompey not paid again? Poor defending make it so easy for Manure!
Could have been 10 nil...
On the 'Skoosh' debate, the first time I ever saw him referred to as 'Skoosh' was on the Rumour Mill. They had him signing for us, as 'Skoosh', months before he actually signed. Someone on that site knows their stuff. The were bang on.
lets get the tunes on early

BT/EN - I'm on MoTD as well rather than BBC Hunland.
Scully - I would hope that some of our Eire based support force an apology from that clown. Bad enough getting the "one's as bad as the other" nonsense in Scotland.

I might email the Irish Times to point that out,They will probably say "well so what its not like something like that wouldnt happen with all the sectarian baggage that goes with those clubs"
Like it or not that is the perception.

Is Michael Walker a real person ?
Over the years various ''journalists'' have been known to do a bit of moonlighting under assumed names.
A guy I knew was on the payroll of a sunday tabloid, and would file a report on a match for a broadsheet paper under an assumed name....
I'm shopping youz to moonbeams
another one for our laid up pal

I believe that De Beasley had an affair with someone whose boyfriend sought revenge. As regards the identity of the journalist, I just hope that some good Celt can seek an apology from the paper??????
MWD just needs to go with the Flow!
BTW, he says you are all a bunch of illegitimates! He wanted to come online, but he "kidney" be bothered !!!
