Dunfermline 2-4 Celtic, Scottish Cup, 7 February 2010

| | Comments (773)
Celtic overcame Dunfermline at East End Park today but had to battle from a goal down.  Edson Braafheid made his Celtic debut after arriving on loan from Bayern Munich and made an outstanding contribution, creating Celtic's first two goals.

On 18 minutes Braafheid jinked free on the left side of the box to cross for Samaras who shot against the crossbar.  Landry Nguemo was felled inside the box trying to get onto the rebound but the ball broke to Diomansy Kamara who thundered the opening goal.

Celtic's lead lasted less than two minutes as Nicky Phinn turned Josh Thompson  on the wing before picking out David Graham with a pass inside the box, who knocked the ball home.

Six minutes later Dunfermline were ahead when Paul Caddis allowed Steven Bell to get in front of him, the defender compounded the mistake by shoving Bell as he jumped to concede a penalty.  Andy Kirk made no mistake from the spot.

Morten Rasmussen had little opportunity thus far in the game but when Braafheid crossed well from the left the game swung back in Celtic's favour.  Scott Brown saw his header from the cross saved by Fleming, who made subsequent saves from Brown and Rasmussen before the Dane bundled the ball over the line.

Robbie Keane replaced Marc Crosas at half time and he should have opened his Celtic account when Diomansy Kamara played a slide-rule forward ball onto his toe but as the ball was cleared wide, Kamara crossed for Morten Rasmussen who was only beaten to the ball by a Callum Woods interception which turned the ball into his own net.

On 64 minutes Rasmussen set Keane free but the striker was challenged illegally from behind by our old friend, Austin McCann, a penalty so blatant Charlie Richmond pointed to the spot.

Keane made no mistake passing the ball past Fleming to put Celtic two goals ahead and ensure their passage into the next round of the Scottish Cup.

A win – and that was the primary objective. But not a comfortable win by any means.

Disjointed at times, but with flashes of what this team can do. But also with some of the defensive frailties we’ve come to expect.

Braafheid looked very good on his debut. Rasmusson showed that he will get among the goals. Kamara got off the mark too. And Keane influenced things when he came on.

I also thought Crosas had a fine first half and was unlucky to be hooked, especially given Samaras’lack of any positive contribution.

We are in the draw, but there is a lot of work still to do. I expect a fair few changes for Wednesday.

Great result. Good performance.

Things starting to flow a bit better.

mr angry, from previous thread:

Looking for a songs debate?
No?
Well give it a rest then...

Rasmussen looks like he might just be the signing of the window. Onto to the slightest sniff of a chance like a viper.

Well done Keano - at last Celtic convert a penalty.

Good displays from Braffheid and Kamara.

Why was Sami kept on and Crosas hooked?

Very decent shift from Kamara, Keane looks a good fulcrum, with Rasmussen and Keane linking up on occasions in a way Scott McDonald never seemed able to, or maybe fond of.

How fit is Charlie Grant these days? He's 23 years old now. Would love to see him get a run if he's fit.

As other posters have said before, Samaras never hides, even when he's having a stinker. Unfortunately:)

The singing at the end of the match was the usual guff from "a minority" who sounded pretty damned loud to me.

Look for the papers to get on the case of that in the morning. Rightfully so, we should not lower ourselves to the level of the blue side of Glasgow, especially not on live TV across the UK and Europe.

As for the performance, acceptable. We're through, there are green shoots of hope in the link play between the front line and the midfield, and that defence can only benefit from a fit Hinkel and Hooveid.

Very impressed with Kamara, Braafheid and Rasmussen.

Enjoyed the game, well done celtic.

Coorslad not going Wed. I need to keep my holidays, are you over?

That was never a penalty in a million years !

Caddis hardly touched him.

Central defence needs sorting out. How long is Hooiveld out for? Why is O'Dea now out of the picture, is he injured? Other than being too easily turned for the first goal Thompson was pretty solid, Loovens is a bombscare. The midfield is offering no protection and teams, even mid-table first division teams, are going through them too easily.

Check out 'Naylor wi tattoos' 40 secs into this video.

Im still sure its no actually him.

Anton Rogan's Right Boot:

I switched off at the whistle - what singing was so problematic?
Was it sectarian, racist perhaps?

Paul67 - We certainly deserved to win and there were positives; the performances of Braafheid, Brown, Kamara, Rasmussen and Keane, as well as the spirit we showed in the second-half.

The negatives can be summed up with the first goal, and we were fortunate not to concede at least one more because of woeful defending. This has to be stamped out.

Yet another shocking decision for their penalty, absolutely scandalous judgment from a referee whose poor performance was only usurped by Provan’s on the telly. I am at a loss to explain what this guy is all about when it comes to his comments on Celtic – he never has anything positive to say and will argue black is white before giving us the benefit of the doubt. He must be the only person watching that game who thought it was a penalty, and then he claims they should have had another one … and that Caddis was fortunate not to be sent-off. How can someone be so wrong so often and still find himself in work as a analyst?

Gary67,

O'Dea is injured.

I thought Thompson had a good game too. Got caught out for the goal but he is young and that will happen. I liked the fact that he didn't shirk after that.

My ratings:

Boruc 7 Nothing to do except pick the ball out of the net twice.
Caddis 7 Unlucky with the penalty and good crossing.
Thompson 7 Should have done better with the 1st goal but overall good.
Loovens 7 Nothing wrong with his performance at all.
Braafheid 8 Great debut, played a big part in the first 2 goals. Sign him permanately Tony!!!
Kamara 8 Great game with a great goal and cross for the 3rd.
Brown 7 Did well in the midfield.
Crosas 6 Not his greatest game, but hardly ever gave away possession.
NGuemo 7 Firey in the midfield- can't shoot though!
Samaras 6 Didn't do that much and ran around like a headless chicken.
Rasmussen 8 Got his goals and caused lots of problems.

Subs

Keane 8 Super movement and a well taken penalty, capped off with his stunning celebration!
McGeady 6 Again, his lack of a quality final ball.
ZZ 6 Composed performance but pretty anonymous

Manager

Mowbary 7 Saw we needed a spark at the break and brought on Keane at the right time.

Hail Hail

P27

I'd like to disagree about one thing in the above article.

Paul Caddis didn't shove anybody to concede a penalty. By the Letter of the law you could argue the case for a penalty but if thats the standard the referee goes by then Celtic should have been awarded 3 first half penalties due to the amount of jostling in the box from our series of first half corners.

Fact.

More sinister officiating.

A win is a win and now we are in the next round. Rasmussen and Keane must be the preferred partnership for the rest of the season. Keane's presence certainly changed the face of the match. Brown had a quiet match as our new captain today.

We must learn from our mistakes today and sort them out before Wednesday.

Bring on the Hearts!

yes it was despicable. but the story tomorrow will be about how keane was 'left on the bench' (like with mcdonald for the huns game) with made up stories about the celtic support having 'raised eyebrows' about the decision, and questioning TM's judgement.
that was their main focus on the coverage today and it'll be the worse tomorrow because we won. it'll be all about how TM made a mistake for leaving keane on the bench but then got rescued by him rather than focusing on a good cup tie.

Song that was sung was the Irish national anthem.

Hardly anything to write about.

Another member of the easily offended CSC?

Through to the next round and thats all that matters. Mixture of performances I thought. Kamara look useful and Ramussen will certainly benefit from playing with Keane.

Thought Skoosh played himself into the game without being outstanding but for a man who has been out for months it was encouraging.

Crosas offered very little and his omission at half time was justified. Both full backs were excellent offensive.ly but I would have reservations about both their defensive attributes.

Should have scored more but attempted through balls from midfield - Aiden, ZZ and Skoosh to a lesser extent were poor - as usual.

Referee had a good game. Their penalty was softish but Caddis gave him a decision to make

Nothing wrong with the singing of Amhrán na bhFiann. I'd like to hear it belted out every game. Keane seemed to enjoy it being sang as well as he walked off the pitch.

SOAL,

I hope you realise youngsters read this blog, you fool.

I see it - you see it...millions of sky viewers see...not sure BTM will see it though.. Rasmussen/ Keane the obvious partnership...my suspicions confirmed by BTM aftermatch comments.."Ramussen could have offered more.. he could of had a couple more" Deary me..

Big_Liam and others - Caddis made it easy for Richmond who had a good view. Outstretched arm into the Pars player who arched his back to make it look a lot worse than it was. No Celtic player complained.

That's not the cheating bit....it's the fact that other teams get away with soft challenges week in week out and we don't.
Cheating Bassa!

If Crosas has any sense, he'll be away in the summer to a team that can actually play modern possession FOOTBALL.

Well done to the Hoops for getting past a big banana skin.

LTPS...

i get the feeling that Rasmussen will go on to be a real cracker

Good win even though it was a tad uncomfortable at times. Thought Crosas deserved to be hooked as it was not his type of game and he was ineffective.

Kamara looked good and I was surprised to see him taken off as he scored one and set one up, especially for Aiden as everyone has been saying he needs a rest. Good debut for Braffheid he looks the busy and Razamatazz looks like a Natural Born Scorer and future Hunskelper.

For the bad Caddis is not a right back and should never play there again. Put him on the right wing. Josh in the first half had a torrid time but it is a good sign to see that it didn't make him get down and he recovered and play well in the second half.

Skoos h didn't have a good game but he did get better as the game went on, set up one goal and got involved in the attack.

Artur looks like he's on a seafood diet any food he sees he eats in, go for a run.

Paul,
a very factual, non-judgemental report. I, on the other hand, am making the unmistakable treck from happy clapper to something else...

I thought that Braffheid was a mixed bag, perhaps unsurprisingly, given it was his first game. I thought that N'Guemo and Crosas was our only hope in getting a foothold against ANY Scottish midfield. Week after week, it is 5 against 2. Why Tony doesn't react to this, or even forsee this, I don't honestly know.

So, the answer, in my view is N'Guemo and Crosas plus one other. 3 in the middle, one guy free, and 2 strikers.

Lo and behold, that's how we started, with Brown making a reasonable contribution.

However...'blessed' with 6 attacking big ticket players, we need (it seems) to shuffle the pack to accomodate them. Off goes Crosas. Back to 2 in the middle. And then worse, N'Guemo at right back. Scott Brown's coronation could very well spell the end of Crosas' time at Celtic.

AArrrrghhh....!

I felt sorry for Caddis. We never get penalties THAT soft. Why was there no Celtic player nipping in the ref's ear?

And while I am on a VERY negative rant....it is bad enough having 5 players arguing about who is taking a free kick....but CORNERS??? I don't believe for a second, that Tony's instructions included..'edson takes the first 3. If they are crap, then Kamara, then Sammy, then....' Nothing is systemised in this team.

To the bright sides. Rasmusson looks the biz. I hope he doesn't get rotated to accomodate Keane, Sammy, Kamara, Aiden, Fortune....he does what no-one else seems capable of.

Big Josh got through another game fairly well. Yes, he got nutmegged in the corner, but that can happen when a CB has to cover for a wayward left back. I hope that nothing happens to affect his confidence before Hooiveldt gets fit.

Big Kamara looks like he'll be a handful for defenders. A bit like Fotune, though.

Finally, back to the manager. Very few of his pieces have fallen into place. His team is still a mystery, further clouded by using 4 loan players, some (well, at least one) of whom have no chance of being here long term.

The pieces that APPEAR to be clear, he doesn't seem to see.

THREE in midfield, not two. Crosas and Landry plus one other. Rassmusson up front. These, to me, are the only certainties.

One other certainty. Hertz will play 5 in midfield against us. Someone should tell Tony......

A bit shambolic today, however we were on a hiding to nothing anyway.

So getting through was the main objective.

Formations/selection don't matter until Wednesday. That's when it all counts.

Fail on Wednesday and that's it until August.

tommytwiststommyturns ,

In over half our corner Kicks we should have had penalties given for us. Thats a conservative estimate. Referee set the standard not me but as usual it was double standards , one rule for the opposition and a different us alone and different set for everyone else.

I'm actually surprised he even gave us our award. Shocked in fact.

Song that was sung was the Irish national anthem.

My mistake, I must have missed the line in the Irish National Anthem about joining the IRA then?

weeron:

Thought Braafheid did have a good game but certainly endorse your comments about the midfield and the 1st striker's name on the team sheet.

I'm not wholly convinced by these "I might be a striker, I might be a winger" players but Kamara did play the role well toady.

If only Aiden could find that final ball...

Liam - I think as Paul said, Richmond had to give it as it was quite blatant. The defender was wrong side and took Robbie's leg just as he was teeing up the shot.

Keano was different class when he came on. I hope a lot of his good habits rub off on some of the squad.

I am proud to have had grandfathers that fought for freedom in the Irish Republican Army

Now if your moaning about the provos you may have a tiny point.

Hail Hail

I think that today's refereeing should be looked at more carefully. There is a innate, and inane, attitude among referees that Celtic are treated differently from anyone else. Decisions like the penalty at which I think Caddis was guilty of stupidity by giving Richmond the chance. How many fouls did Celtic players suffer from in their box which went unnoticed(well noticed but no penalty given)?

Also, we had a D'line player having a shot well after the whistle-no booking. Keane upended by the last man- ref thinks "I gave them a penalty, that's enough" - no sending off. No booking! Would a Celtic player have been left on or, at the very least, booked?

Caddis was booked for complaining at their penalty, were any of their players booked after the celtic penalty?

Few positives today,Braffhied, raz, keane goal, kamara ,and the partnership between keane and raz looks like a good one, hope TM sticks with it.

Few negatives to,but dont want to dwell on them, theres been enough negativity,we are in the next round, but an improvement will be needed to beat hearts.

Hail Hail p1967

Signs of progress and self-belief at last. Braafheid looks the business and Kamara's was quality. Rasmussen doing what he was bought for. Keane showing what running into space is all about but I doubt if Sammi will get it, even on the replay. Sammi way out of his depth as usual - slow, cumbersome, runs into trouble and wanders off into dead areas. Hope we see little of him in the run-in. Caddis did well as did Thomson. Feeling much more confident re Hearts midweek as a taster for how we'll challenge in the run-in. Back the Manager!

A lot of promising signs today, mixed with familiar failings. Delighted with the contributions from Braafheid, Rasmussen, Kamara and Keane. big minus for me was Samaras......He doesnt fit in with the way we were trying to play, especially in the 2nd half, doesn't move the ball quickly enough and loses us momentum. Their first goal showed the problem of Thomson being left one on one, lacks pace and needs to have someone backing him up......he was was skinned out in the full back position and Caddis was left in the CB position from which they scored. Having said that, Caddis and Thomson both played well today when asked to do the things they do well.Loovens did O.K. as did Nguemo and crosas, Brown will need more games, Boruc needs a rest.
Same team would do for me on Wednesday with Fortune on for Samaras and Zaluska for Boruc.

weeron

you watched the same match as me..exactly as I saw it..

"Nothing is systemised in this team"

encapsulates my thoughts precisely.

Doesn't matter who plays we should have a shape/system and roles should be clear..I was perhaps being unfair on Kamara in an earlier post...he looks like he's trying to control everything - throw-in, corners, fre kicks...but maybe in the absence of instructions.. leaders try to assume the lead..

I agree re Braafield - he looks fiery but stikes me a slightly indecisive and touch happy - thought he could have popped ball in earlier on occassion but he shows signs that are encouraging.

For a while today it looked like car park time again.

Positves today were Kamara, Braafheid, Ras.Good to see someone like Keane wo can link play.

The penalty was shocking and interesting. He booked Caddis but didn't send their player off when Keane was in a goalscoring position.
I look forward to seeing Richmond set records for awarding a penalty at every cross in future.

TM did the right thing taking Cassis off, no point in getting a red card.
I would like to urge TM not to try and shoehorn players into a system which leaves the midfield outnumbered.
Better teams will tear us apart if we are so open.

VMHAN,Yes got offered a lift over,so taking Caolan for his birthday. It was in doubt @ half-time today...
Looking foward to seeing the ROBSTER @ Celtic Pk...

I was worried about what the result may have been today. I thought the team showed what they can/could do today. the elements are there, we just need to find the bond to get us going!

Had Robbie been match Fit, I think he would have walked off the park with two under his belt, the same goes for "The Big Ram" he could have had 3 today if he were a little sharper. Kammy put in a fine shift with a fine Goal.

What can I say about our left back..It might be to early to say get him signed but ..oh fudge it Get him signed! two set up and not afarid of a battle.

If 1 of our midfeilders can find scoring form, this might be a side to fear! I am aware of our problems at the back and also of our bad habbit of letting goals slip just after we score, which is a school boy mistake..I think that is the fourth this season.

If we could just get our back four to calm down, then I dont think this team is as bad as many would say or think. Yes there are problems.. but if this side can settle, then it may shock a few people.

Is Big tony the man to do it..I dont know..but He's here to the end of the season at least and until then he has my support! after that we'll see what happens.

Colin Murray on 5 live saying Keane FINALLY scores for Celtic...
Was gonna say you couldn't make it up but we all know they can, and how.

Not read what's been said but although I'm happy to get the victory I'm again worried about the tactics.

We started with the right formation and got ahead, losing the two goals was against play and slack defending (mixed in with cheating MIBs).

TM decided to change things up and to an extent it worked but he seems intent on changing for the sake of changing, I don't know if Caddis was injured but playing 4 forwards with 2 midfielders at one point then taking a fullback off for a midfielder?? If we do that against Hearts we WILL drop points.

Rasmussen HAS to start every game from now to the end of the season. He might not be the best player but he's effective.

Braafheid looked good.

I'm also fed up of our players being barged and bundled over (particularly in the middle of the park) and the ref not giving anything. Yes you could say they're being caught in possession but in England it would be a foul - we're never going to improve the technical side of the Scottish game if this goes unchallenged.

Charlie Richmond gave us a penalty today! However, he also gave Dunfermline a penalty straight out of the "we wouldn`t get" category. Caddis was subsequently booked. Now, who in their right mind wouldn`t say the foul on Keane wasn`t a "clear goalscoring oppertunity" Yet no red card.
Another example of how the rules are applied to us. A hooped jersey would have walked for that challenge and no complaints.
Let`s hope this is the start. (Again) 3 points and a strong performance on Wed could see some confidence coming back, both on and off the park.
Keep the Faith.

Coorslad enjoy the game Wed. Celts to win 2-0, Dunky C was on to me after the game, he's going up.

Better performance today. Rassmussen looks the part all right - goal+ a game so far. Hope this game is a metaphor for Tony Mowbray's season. Looks good, then looks bad..... then he wins. Maybe, maybe not.

West Wales Celt

No not looking for the songs debate as you call it. I was just registering my disgust at the away support singing about joining the IRA.

At the minute a wins a win.

Two poor judgments from the most inexperienced members of the team in Caddis and Thompson lead to us conceding the two goals. Cut them some slack.

The type of goals we scored today is encouraging 1) full back getting to the line and providing good service. 2) 2 goals from a striker who wants to do his work in the box and 3) a penalty (whens the last time we scored one of them?).

Ohhhh Back pass Bazza nearly talked his way off the park at the Bir-Wolves game..I still hate that pie faced hammock!!

Well, I'm very happy for you. Me? I just want to watch the football team I support win and play entertaining football, I have no need for political or historical posturing. What does singing about that have to do with the game today? Nothing.

I think the penalty shows you what can happen when you referee with the whistle in your mouth - and thats what referees seem to do any time we are about to make a tackle in our own box or when we are moving into the oppositions box.

When you are looking for reasons to give something, you usually find it.

As the ball was coming across it was going over the guys head, so he was moving backwards, with Caddis standing behind him, as the ball was approaching the guy was about to jump, which would have meant he would land on top of Caddis, so Caddis put his arms out to protect himself from 11 odd stone landing on him - and he gives a penalty.

The decision to then BOOK Caddis for it went beyond anything that I would be allowed to write on this site - scandalous!!!!

From the official site.

Keane on target as celts progress

David Friel
ROBBIE KEANE and Diomansy Kamara scored their first Celtic goals as Tony Mowbray’s side beat Dunfermline 4-2 in an epic Scottish Cup tie to reach the last eight of tournament.

Kamara grabbed the opener at East End Park with a wonderful rising drive, but Celtic were left stunned as Dunfermline scored twice in the space of six minutes to move 2-1 ahead. David Graham and Andy Kirk, with a penalty, were the men on target.

Celtic striker Morten Rasmussen poached an equaliser on the stroke of half-time and a Callum Woods own goal put the Hoops ahead 11 minutes into second period. Keane then converted a penalty to make it 4-2 and secure Celtic’s passage.

Hoops boss Mowbray used his squad to the full by making seven changes to the side that started against Kilmarnock in midweek. The injured Jos Hooiveld and Andy Hinkel were replaced by Josh Thompson and Paul Caddis, while Lee Naylor, Ki Sung Yueng, Aiden McGeady, Marc-Antoine Fortune and Keane dropped out of the side.

In came Scott Brown, who captained Celtic, debutant Edson Braafheid, Marc Crosas, Georgios Samaras and Rasmussen. Keane and McGeady were joined on the bench by January signing Thomas Rogne.

Celtic dominated possession from the start and Samaras had the first chance in six minutes. The Greek striker rose above Dunfermline goalkeeper Greg Fleming and won the break of the ball. However, the Greek striker's shot was blocked.

A succession of corners followed but Dunfermline held firm until 19 minutes when Kamara lashed Celtic into the lead. Braafheid was the architect with a jinking run and cross. Samaras hit the bar with the first shot and when the ball fell to the edge of the box, Kamara found the top corner from 18 yards.

That goal should have settled Celtic down. Instead, Dunfermline – who had barely been in the Hoops’ box – equalised inside 60 seconds. Nicky Phinn skinned Thompson at the corner flag and picked out Graham, who rolled home from 15 yards.

There was worse to come. Woods made progress on the right and sent over a cross that looked to be sailing out of play. However, Caddis was adjudged to have barged Steven Bell and a penalty was awarded. Kirk sent Artur Boruc the wrong way from 12 yards.

Samaras fired a Braafheid corner over the bar as Celtic now looked for an equaliser. Kamara then almost picked out Rasmussen in the box. The Dane was then inches away from picking a loose Alex Burke passback.

Loovens headed a Crosas corner over the bar before Celtic almost capitalised on their best move of the first half in 41 minutes – Kamara, Brown and Caddis were involved but Fleming somehow saved from Rasmussen.

Celtic’s great Dane wouldn’t be denied for much longer though, with Rasmussen hauling Celtic level in 43 minutes. Braafheid crossed, Brown had an effort blocked and Rasmussen fired home at the second attempt.

Keane replaced Crosas at the break as Celtic moved to what was practically a 4-2-4 formation. Yet, it was Dunfermline who had the first chance of the second half – Willie Gibson’s drive was clutched by Boruc.

Dunfermline were containing Celtic’s forward line but Keane did find space in 53 minutes to send a cross along the six-yard box. Rasmussen was again on the end of it but Fleming saved from three yards.

Moments later, Keane danced along the goal-line and left Neil McGregor on his knees, but Fleming was again up to the task as he made a low save at his front post.

The Irish striker was denied again in Celtic’s next attack, Fleming once more in inspired form, but the ball was only cleared to Kamara and his cross was diverted into the net by Woods – as Rasmussen waited to convert.

Then, in 67 minutes, came the moment the Celtic fans had been waiting for – Keane’s first goal for the club. He had been fouled in the box by Austin McCann as he was about to shoot and won a penalty.

There was only going to be one man taking the spot-kick and Keane made no mistake – sending Fleming the wrong way and then producing his trademark cartwheel celebration in front of the jubilant Celtic supporters.

That goal killed the game but Celtic still went in search of goals. McGeady, on for Kamara, twice chipped over the bar. Keane was also inches away from conveting a Rasmussen cross.

http://www.celticfc.net/news/stories/news_070210142252.aspx

Signs of progress today, yes, but let's not get too carried away. This was a first division team whose entire playing staff combined probably earn less than Robbie Keane.

Take the positives and the confidence that scoring brings into the next game. That will be more of a test - and one that we must pass.

Keane and Rasmusson must start on Wednesday. Samaras must not.

What I, and SKY viewers heard, loud and clear was singing about the IRA. This is an insult to the people of Ireland who have emphatically chosen peace and progress through democracy, it's an insult to me as a Scot (from Irish stock) who sees the Celtic as a Glasgow / West of Scotland team and it is unbelievably crass behaviour by a minority who need to join us in the 21st Century. We have the capacity to identify them and ban them so that the majority of us can genuinely support Celtic as an inclusive club.

The UK audience cannot be expected to recognise or condone songs which refer to the IRA even if some on here can - if the minority sing them we all get judged as IRA supporters which I deeply resent.

Just got back and have now saw the goals.

THAT penalty decision was another example of a technicality that you never see given or seldom do.

Chalk that up to a strange decision.

This is the same Charlie Richmond who didn't give us 2 decisions in the Motherwell game, added an extra minute to the stoppage time when they were attacking and then blew for time up with Fortune cleam through on goal.

hmmmmmmmmmmm

Mr Angry - Have you only started supporting Celtic in the last 2 years?

Because its hard to fathom you choosing to support a club whose supporters disgusted for almost the entire 90 minutes at every away game up until around 2 years ago....

Hopefully the team will be ready to beat Hearts.

What percentage of Celtic supporters would be able to translate your "wee song" do you think? 5%? 2%?

This is Glasgow in 2010! Some of us have better ways of celebrating our Irish/Scottish heritage and can proclaim it in ways which the rest of society can enjoy and participate in.

Oh yeah, and what was Boruc doing at their first goal?

Boruc 5
Caddis 7
Josh 7
Loovens 6
Heid II 7
Crosas 7
N'Guemo 8
Brown 7
Samaras 6 (Guessing he was asked to play deeper i.e. where McGeady would play)
Kamara 7
Rasmussen 8
Keane 8
Zhe 5

I still don't see the point in ZZ - it's like Mowbray players him just because he brought him in.

Is Richmond on the FIFA list?

ianinascoli,

Isn't the cup draw on Wednesday?

Anton Rogan's Right Boot

dunno if he's on FIFAs list but he is on mine...mawh hahahahahahahh

Anton Rogan's Right Boot

that was my evil laugh btw

A few things were underlined for me today.

1. We will concede goals against anyone
2. Important decisions against us will continue unabated and unchallenged
3. BBC Radio Scotland is a slick propoganda operation which specialises in airbrushing shocking decisions against Celtic out of existance
4. Tony hasn't got the first clue what his first choice eleven should be
5. This won't be the last time we need to score 3 or 4 to win

And what must Marc Crosas be thinking when he sees players like Samaras give the ball away in midfield positions all day long....

Hey guys.

One post before I retire to my bed (I think I have the flu) for the night;

It was clear to me watching todays game that there are a number of priorities for the team next season, regardless of how this one pans out in the end.

Landry, Kamara and Braafheid MUST all be signed up permanently. I like the look of Robbie Keane, but if it's a choice between all three or getting him and missing out on two of the others, I would want the three.

Kamara looks like he has the tools to do some job. I won't say I told you so, but I did. (Haha.) Wait until he's fully fit! Landry is, as we know, solid and I think will only get better. He has weaknesses in his game, but they will be resolved as he adapts more to the pace and his team-mates adapt more to his style of play. Signing him is a no-brainer. It might be too soon to say about Braafheid, one game can't tell you everything - but there's something there alright. I always thought Andy Hinkel's greatest asset is his ability to deliver a cross; with him on the right and the Dutchman on the left, we will score goals.

Speaking of which .......

The most important signing we made in this window was not Keano. I think it's already clear who it will prove to be. Two matches in Hoops, two goals and he forced a defender into a mistake which put another in the net. Morten Rasmussen is the answer to all of prayers in front of goal.

Hail Hail troops. Interesting - and encouraging - signs.

Another game, another change of personnel, & more worryingly, of system.

Does Tony actually have any idea about how he wants the team to play?

Hmmm...

The substitution of Crosas to bring on Keane today can be said to have worked, since we went on to win, but we simply cannot continue to have our midfielders routinely outnumbered. It doesn't work against even half decent opposition- today, lets remember we were up against a mid table first division side.

Excuse me, yes it`s on Wednesday. :-)

Charlie Richmond was the referee in charge for each of our last two Scottish Cup defeats.

He did his best today...

By Wee Green Machine on February 7, 2010 3:35 PM

Richmond was bizarre in his refereeing today, made me think he was FIFA approved, as they seem to be a law unto themselves at the best of times...

U2_1888

My brother was working and actually called me after Keane scored because apparently those clowns on radio scotland were saying it was questionable, soft and even that he played the ball then keane!!

I mean come on!!!!

He didnt hear what they had to say about the joke Dunfermline got awarded.

I think point 4. is harsh - its hardly a new phenomenon to play a few more fringe players in cup games, although considering we are a brand new team trying to play a steady, consistent team would be a good idea.

Here is a point, do you know what your preferred starting line up is?

I dont - purely because the whole point in having a big squad is having different options, so the most suitable team for today isnt the most suitable team for Wednesday, the most suitable team for Wednesday etc etc

What concerns me is that we lose goals too easily - there were similarities between wednesdays and todays first by Pars - left full back out of position poor marking in the box.
We seem to need umpteen chances to score but get caught easily on the break.
We need to tell our fullbacks that the first duty is to defend.

But overall result is what matters - i'll take TFOD at home in the next round.

Good win today.

I think TM was worried that Caddis would get sent off so that's why NGuemo endeded up LB.

Negatives
Boruc - Where was he at their 1st goal? Terrible positioning!
ZZ - Doesn't add anything IMO
McGeady - Didn't find a man with a cross/threaded pass in time he ws on
Samaras - Doesn't look sharp enough
Charlie Richmond - Some strange decisions again that could have cost us on another day!!!

Positives
Braaheid - He's no Naylor, great crossing
Rassa - Great poacher and worked well with Keane
Keane - His movement is frightening
Kamara - Looked a player today and can cross unlike McGeady
Broonie - Looked good considering its his first game in ages.
Crosas - Controlled a lot of our play first half, just needs to add some attack to his game

Anton Rogan's Right Boot

Aye your not half right mate! There have been more than a couple guilty of that this season. I'm still shocked at how they get away with it..and it's the Number of times it happens that's shocked me this season. How many goals have we had chalked off? how many Goals given, which were never goals..then the pens against us and the ones not given..ohh and lets not forget the stupid amount of offsides given against us, some of which I really can't get over! but hey we are just Paranoid Celtic fans!

Brafeid looks solid so far....promising debut

First of all may I congratulate you on your positive post at the end..that must have been tough for you!
seriously man! 4 goals and that's the best you can do?
Not the best Celtic performance, that's for sure, but I would have more respect for your criticism if it were tempered by some praise or at least some joy when we score.
You seem genuinely annoyed when Rasmussen equalised for 2-2! (your post at 12:58)
Some on here would probably call you a hun but I won't.
I'll just call you a p*iss poor Celtic supporter!

In the end it's very pleasing that Kamara and Keane have got off the mark. Otherwise the media would have been at it about 'misfiring' strikers yet to score.

Rasmussen shows why he should have featured against Kilmarnock.

Here comes the but...the unnecessary tinkering. With Keane on, Celtic had wrested back control of the game. Had things been left they may have wrapped it up in some style. Unfortunately we knew what to expect these days from McGeady. But the other change putting NGuemo at RB? Puzzling. A bit like the Brown substitution in mid-week.

It leaves the impression Tony Mowbray will try to accomodate all his players, even if it means sticking them out of position.

We now have a very talented collection of players. If these players can be shaped into a team and start to get results, then there's hope for the future, even if the 10 point gap proves too much to overcome. The question is can the manager do this or will he continue to tinker with odd selections and players in peculiar positions?

does anyone know if hooiveld will be fit for the game against hearts?

ianinascoli on February 7, 2010 3:28 PM

Well done today bhoys, things can only get better.

re. the singing, I quite clearly heard "Go On Home British Soldiers" towards the end of the game. I am passing no opinion, because it's been done to death and it's very very boring.

Tremendously impressed with Morten and Diomansy today. Robbie was a class apart too, and despite being invisible for the first goal (disappearing tricks evidently part of the Lennoxtown Left Back Training Manual), Edson looks a find. Marc must be sick fed up of being sacrificed every time a change needs to be made (or at least when BTM decides one needs to be made, even if no-one agrees), and this new tactic of removing a fullback and then playing a non-fullback at fullback is a right headscratcher.

Still, we're in the next round. I'll settle for a home game against St Mirren :-)

Eyes Wide Open,

Point 4 wasn't a dig at Tony, although I see it could be seen that way! It's a fact of where we are at the moment - lots of outs, lots of ins and lots of injuries.

Pick the starting 11 on Wednesday and you win a coconut!

My preferred 11? Crosas, Keane, Rasmussen and any other 8 from 20!

Timgreen i too don't think we should be singing IRA songs at the ground as it gives them somethin to talk about but I'm Irish and I'm not ashamed of the IRA of old and this is what most celtic fans sing about The Boys Of The Old Brigade is a song about the IRA of 1916 if the brits can sing about Britania without contreversy why cant we? that said i do take the point that it is best not to sing it at a football ground but I just thought I'd make the point of Im Irish I choose peace but I'm not ashamed of the IRA of old.

timgreen: That was for my friends and relations who still speak our native tongue and are proud of our heritage and association with Celtic, no offence meant to you or anyone else.

See, this is what I get for reading back on the blog .....

Once again we have the puritans on here carping on about a couple of songs. Get over it already. timgreen is giving another poster a hard time for publishing the words of the anthem in their native tongue; what the Hell is that?

Some of our supporters have sympathies with those involved in the armed struggle, and choose to sing about at away games. Is this news? No. Do I agree with their views? Well, I have sympathies with those who fought in the recently ended war, and they are well know. I wouldn't choose to express them at the game, but I have no issue with those who do. Celtic is a Scottish club with Irish roots; I have no problem with sections of our support who choose to commemorate the more militant side of that.

The posters on here who are complaining appear to be doing so for one of two reasons; they are offended personally, or they are worried about what the media might say.

This is a free society. The same laws which protect pornographers and the right of Hugh Keevins to talk crap protect the likes of me to talk my own version of it, and they protect those amongst our support who want to express their views. I have no issue with any of it. There is no right in our society not to be offended; if there were I'd have to pack up my pencils and go somewhere else.

In other words; you are offended? No offence, but TOUGH.

As to the media ... don't make me laugh. The very notion of trying to appease unappeasable enemies makes me worry about the backbone of some sections of our support. We will NEVER appease these people; even in our silence they found a reason to moan. I refuse - utterly - to accept condemnation from the same people who allow Rangers fans to break the law (yes, and that's where the free speech argument ends, where racism and sectarianism are concerned, and support for the Provos does not fall under that category) with impunity. The media is so hypocritical on this issue it's impossible to take them seriously.

The day I worry what THEY have to say is the day we fold up the tri-colour and the whole instituion of Celtic with it.

I'm away to my bed.

Hail Hail.

Right Bhoys I'm off for the day I'm way behind with work!!

Spot on about ref.
Thought in the lead up to Kamaras goal we had a far better claim for a penalty than the one they got.
R Keane showed what movement can do to disrupt an opponents defensive shape.
Kamara and Brafhied both looked good.
Ra Ra is a striker
S Brown had a steady game but would love to see him drive more at opposition though in his defense he is just back from injury.
Why is every pitch we play on so full of ruts and divots?

Great result. Onwards and upwards. :)
Sorry, but that was a penalty. Often never given, but a pen never the less. Caddis should have jumped with the guy to put him off not put his hands on the attacking players back therfore giving him an opportunity to show the ref he was being impeded when he jumped for the ball.
The only complaint I would have is that our players DON'T normally get those pens.

Looking forward to Weds night. Let's see it click Celts!

Songs debate equals a big yawn, almost any kind of singing at Celtic Park on Wednesday would be welcome given the recent atmosphere. But I'd rather it was to support the team.
Rasmussen lookin to be great bit of business and is an antidote to some of the less robust forwards of recent seasons.

Does anyone else think we dont make enough out of set pieces? We had a stack of corners today to not much effect. With the height in the team now, I'd expect this to be a major threat for the rest of the season.

Scotland 9 France 18

Poor start for Levein, but the real talking point is again, a fair few handballs again from the French.

Wild & Green on February 7, 2010 3:16 PM

I take your point but the ref could and maybe should have gaiven Caddis a second yellow for a deliberate trip on the Dunfermilne guy - don't know his name.

No complaints about the ref. He was fair enough. IMHO

53

Good win today, although we looked very suspect at the back once again.

I have a problem with the size of our fullbacks. Braafheid and Caddis are both very small, thus unable to compete in the air. If we're going to play these 2 that will cause problems against the long-ball teams in the SPL.

My other worry is the shape of our team. We have great attacking options right now, but that doesn't mean they should all be on the pitch at the same time.

I think Mowbray has to limit himself to 3 forwards, including McGeady. We cannot play a 4-2-4, it will cost us points.

If fit, I'd have Brown in the middle with Crosas and N'Guemo. Although their lack of height would tempt me to play Ki instead of one of them.

Up front, I'm not sure. I like Fortune, I think Kamara looks decent, Keane is obviously class, Samaras is one of our best players while on form, Rasmussen deserves his place and McGeady is generally thought of as our main man.

It's a good problem to have, but the way to solve it is not to have 4 of them on the pitch at the same time, it doesn't work.

Mick 1888
The refs tend to nullify our height advantage at set pieces.
Lots of whistles for imaginary fouls when we look threatening.

Dunfermline ...Pen for Celtic ...last man ..not even booked

Hearts ..pen ..Caldwell ...sent off

a very very soft penalty today....not the first this season

take your pick from the numerous strong pen claims we have had refused

bad luck, the vagaries of refereeing, bad refereeing .....or just plain cheating

I wasn't offended by the singing, for all those who seem to be taking pot shots at the "puritans" posting about it; I've been going to Celtic games since 1987 (at the risk of doing a McNee and pulling the "look at my medals" argument) so I know damn fine well what's being sung and why.

I have no interest in the Irish situation, I'm not Irish, nor from an Irish family, nor have any Irish roots. I support Celtic because when I was growing up, I could see the floodlight from my garden, and when I got into football, my Dad took me there.

My only problem is that UEFA came down on Rangers for songs of a... shall we say questionable nature, so surely we are fair game for that too?

Fair enough, Celtic fans have their songs and background, Rangers fans have theirs. Each to their own, as Mr. Forrest more or less says.

What a few Celtic fans see as appropriate songs to sing at a game, the vast majority of the meeja will just use as more anti-Celtic bias - we all know they do it, but why should we accept it, let alone expect it?

Let's NOT give them more ammunition and make their bias and mock indignation even more. I don't want to get into a peeing contest with fellow Celtic fans, that's not my intention, never was... As Mr. Forrest said, free speech is here for all, I just wanted to bring up the subject. I wasn't aware it was such a thorny topic.

ciarante

You probably answer your own question and one that TM doesn't seem to be able to answer.

You play three from: N'Guemo, Crosas, Brown & Ki.

Rasmussen as the main striker then two from: Keane, McGeady, Samaras, Fortune & Kamara (McCourt & McGinn in reserve).

Thoughts after this game

"Dixie" Rasmussen must start every game.

Mark Crosa deserves an apology for the number of times he moved forward into space to watch the ball being passed sideways. Unfortunate that he has a brain where others do not.

Charlie Richmond reflects the attitude of too many referees.

Any action by a Celtic player is deemed an offence unless it is is patently not.

Any action by a player against Celtic is deemed ok unless the offence is so cast iron it cannot be denied.

Of course the 2nd part of that rule can be ignored up to three times in any given game.

on football, front two of Rasmussen and Fortune with Keane floating behind, anyone? Samaras can sit on the bench and make coffee for Zaluska.

OK, so we won. Not without our usual defensive disaster, but we won.

I am delighted though that we appear to have found that most elusive of players, the 6yrd box goal scorer!
Rasmussen looks the part, how many times have we seen those sort of goalmouth scamble chances go-a-begging over the last few years?

Not today, or hamilton, but we did against Killie. No prizes for the common denominator.

This guy will score a barrowload for us, a lot of them this season will be helped due to Keane.

This guy just oozes both confidence and more importantly for me, football intelligence. His runs, his timing, his anticipation, his interchanging play and link-up. Superb. Ok some of his finishing has been a wee tad dodgy, but that will come.

And how good was it to watch a Celtic player looking convinced he was going to score prior to hitting his penalty?

Kamara? Great strike and some good powerful running. Another useful addition.

Defensively still the same lazy mistakes, but the pen for me was very, very soft. Put it this way if that was a penalty then every single game should see penalties in double-figures.
Ridiculous decision by Richmond.

Thought Braafheid looked solid enough too.

Guess my worry is how easily a team, any team, can leave us reeling for a given spell in the match, despite us dominating prior to that point.

However as I started this post, we won, and go through to the next round.

Job done.

On current form we should play Crosas, N'Guemo and Ki in midfield with Keane, Rasmussen and Fortun'e up front.

Samaras slows the game down too much. He rarely pays a one touch pass, preferring to control, cut back, take a look ....

Aiden is not on top form at the moment and his decision making is letting him down. He made a great run through midfield today and Keane was looking for a simple pass to pu him through. But Aiden delayed and the chance was gone.

Brown did OK today. Nothing special but a decent performance.

Hate to say it but Chelsea have the look of Champions about them.

SwanseaBhoy

"Let the people sing" Let others including the Scottish media worry about what songs are sung by Celtic's support. And at the end of the do we really care what 'they' think in the 1st place?

Did anyone notice that when we were 2-1 down , while or manager remained motionless in technical area who was geeing the bhoys on Lee Naylor!!!

Celtic beat more than Dunfermline today.

I'm glad and happy to be living in the moment just now. Enjoying a victory, any "victory" by Celtic gives me just cause for enjoyment. Living it to the full.

Sober reflection and perspective will come later or tomorrow. We won a cup game, in a cup that this year means little to me.This is hopefully a game that may help us gird our loins and assemble a team for Hearts midweek. A victory, an improving performance and an introduction of new team mates to the cause, nothing more or nothing less.

Three throaty cheers all round.

As a group we should all enjoy our supper tonight. I hope Tony can learn to enjoy the result that victory in the hoops means, perhaps his private demeanor varies but his public persona is increasingly worrying.

There was more to be pleased about todays result than not. Edson looks the part and Ra Ra gets another goal. Broony looked better. Keano Scoredo. I thought Crosas did well and must have been shaking his head when he was replaced but Big Sammi stayed on. Aiden is still off form and wee caddy had a poor game - but we won. We won. That's a start ( another start ).

The team is starting to look good.

Cheers!

Gordon J,

Kamara ahead of Forune for me.

Kamara, Rasmussen and Keane for me. They clicked for me today together, looked good in the second half.

Smaaras and Aiden need to release the ball quicker and get with the game man. Few times today if they release the ball quicker our strikers are in.

signs of improvement, goals, a wary opTIMism being shown on the blog.
All reports say for short spells in the game we were unplayable.

wary optimism and positive thinking, they are afraid of us when we are positive.

Difficult to have sympathy for Man United fans however the what the Glazer's have done and are doing to their Club is despicable.

Interesting to watch this one develop.

WGS,

Kamara has looked good in the first half of both his games and then faded. I know he has not played a lot of games this season so won't be at full match fitness.

What a difference to see your stirkers chasing and closing down the defenders.

Yes I can confirm remark about Lee Naylor, If only he could apply it when playing, as today proved again we are really sloppy at the back. I am normally, only on edge when we play the HUNS when attack, now I S**** myself when any team attack us any where near the 18yd box. I have no faith in the defense at the present time. However lets hope we have enough fire power to combat our problem's at the back and maybe thing's will improve.

crosas should not have come off and weakend the midfield the one to come off was samaras his was an empty jersey he has been a passenger for ages now. then to move landry to right back as cover for caddis and put another empty jersey into the middle we will not get away with that against the better teams who swamp midfield we will be over run the bhoy rogne should have come on for caddis as he can play right back.keane and rassmussen must start up front against the wee huns on wed kamara on right wing fortune on left.

Add a centre halve, christian Poulsen type player to sit in the middle in the summer and this team that is getting built will be good.

SwanseaBhoy,
regarding the Man U green and gold thing, as Gordon J mentioned that was the old Newton Heath strip from the 1890s. As it happens, my great-grandfather Tom Fitzsimmons from Annbank just outside Ayr, actually played for Newton Heath as did his brother David.
Tom also had a short stint with Celtic too.
Just a bit of a plug there.

I was like everyone at the game about Caddis at the game. Was a bit shocked and thought naw!!

But then i realised Caddis was on a yellow card, done a tackle before he got subbed which was dodgy. For me he never had the best of days today. Think Richmond would have sent him off if another dodgy tackle came in.

One thing I noticed about Caddis that made me laugh - right before the equaliser at 2-2 there was a guy in the Dunfermline fans wouldn't give him the ball for a shy - after the goal, as he was in the mini celebratory huddle, he was waving at the same guy in the crowd :)

Funny, but you know what would have happened had Richmond seen it - would have been unsportsmanlike conduct, inciting the crowd, wearing a bumblebee jersey in a built up area or whatever else he could come up with.

One Anton Rogan

Funny how you find a song about the Irish rebellion so offensive yet you have never once mentioned the singing of Dirty fenian b's by the Scumfermline fans?

WGS@4:58,

I agree.I think the potential at Celtic is huge and with a couple of additions in the summer this team could really go and achieve something special. That's if all the self-appointed experts haven't hounded the manager out of the club first.

Hellbhoy (who dares to dream)

Shaunbhoy,

According to Kerrydale Street:

"An outside-right Thomas Fitzsimmons was one of several players tried out by the club in the wake of Neil McCallum’s departure.

"The Annbank man played as a trialist in the 2-2 league draw with Rangers at Ibrox on September 24 1892. Fitzsimmons moved to Newton Heath in November that year after never making another appearance for the Bhoys."

My first post
we played alot better today but once again the defence was all over the place. Bigger teams will pick us off if we keep defending like that. BTM has to pick a bk 4 and stick with it. Glad to see keano and kamara getting of the mark n big RA RA looks the player we need up front. Put sammy in the reserves he killed the game at times today with his 4 touch control and pointless runs.
Hail hail

I liked our formation first half, and what a difference it made to see us without wingers. A fluid creative system which could be our future. Crosas had to be sacrificed in order to bring Keane on, and that effectively changed the game. The other two substitutions kept things tight, but diluted our influence. The Caddis one I could understand, but Zheng Zhi gave us nothing and Aiden was once again poor in possession. I liked the first half formation, liked the start of the second, and for me a similar starting line-up for the next few games.

Well done today bhoys in achieving the main objective, which was progressing to the next round of cup.

Lets concentrate on the positives of todays match and build on it for wednesday.

Evening Bhoys and Ghirls. First time posting (long time reading). I am living in Galway (hence the name) and i am just wondering if there are highlights of the game on tonight on bbc scotland. If so, what time.

Yours in Celtic.

Galway Tim.

One thin dime

I'm sure you're right. The Dunfemline fans singing about fenians would regard it as an insulting term for Catholics, and I would be naive to believe otherwise.

Sometimes pedantry gets the better of me despite my best efforts.

Gordon J and Shaunbhoy

I'll keep one eye on this campaign for no other reason than things like that interest me.

Every time I think of how the Glazers effectively bought Utd but left the Club with the debt liability for the purchase I am incredulous. It seems like it should be illegal. It obviously isn't but it just seems wrong.

in that respect I have a little sympathy with the anti Glazer campaigners.

SwanseaBhoy

In Robbie Keane we now have a player who can time a run in behind the opposition defence.

In Marc Crosas we have a player who can time a pass in behind the opposition defence.

Now if we can get them both on the pitch at the same time ...

Agreed our defence is dodgy but I will give young Josh as much support as he needs as he looks like he could be player

Gordon_J,
cheers for that. Sadly only a fraction of his talent filtered down to me, but enough to make me a lifetime Bhoy......

I presume you mean me? And if you check this thread out, I said it didn't offend me.

The song from the Dunfermline fans? That's my point - you expect crap like that from Rangers and Rangers Jnr fans everywhere we go. We're better than that nonsense.

Tom English: 'Donald Muir (the enemy within) is getting slammed for turning down an offer that was never made'

Published Date: 07 February 2010
MEMO TO the Rangers Supporters Trust: If you're going to stage a demonstration, stop talking about it and bloody well get on with it. What's stopping you? If you feel that your club's future is being compromised by the bank then get yourselves on the streets with your banners and your bugles and make some noise.
What's that you say? You've been quite angry on Follow Follow? I see. And some of you have closed your accounts with Lloyds Banking Group? Rebellious stuff, for sure. You raised some anti-Donald Muir (the enemy within) flags at Ibrox the other week? Ah yes, it's good to know that the defiant spirit of William Wallace is alive and well and currently residing in the Broomloan stand.

This Rangers business is a bit weird. On Friday we had David Edgar, the torch bearer of the trust, talking grimly about an "organised protest" on the back of a "suspicion that Lloyds Bank is not doing enough to facilitate a sale". I might be wrong, but I thought it was down to Alastair Johnston to facilitate a sale, not Lloyds.

Edgar and chums are going bonkers because the bank supposedly dismissed a bid of £18 million for the club a short while ago. This was Dave King's consortium, we're told. The bank wouldn't countenance the offer and Muir has taken it in the neck ever since.

Here's the deal, though. There was no offer and there is no Dave King, not in terms of buying the club at any rate. King has not been seen around Ibrox since August, hasn't spoken to anybody who matters at the club or attended an important meeting for the longest time. This £18m bid, it's fantasy. It never happened.

How do we know this? Because if it was a proper offer it would have to be declared to the stock exchange. That's the rule. There was no declaration because – and forgive me for stressing this, but it needs to be done in order to get it into the heads of some Rangers daydreamers – there was no official bid. Nothing. Nada. Zip.

The bizarre thing about this is that Muir is getting slammed for turning down an offer that was never made in the first place. But even if it had been made, do you think £18m is enough to get the keys of the door at Ibrox? Not even close. It would be the sale of the century at that price. Ibrox, Murray Park, McGregor, Boyd, Bougherra, Davis, Wilson, Fleck, Thomson, Whittaker all for £18m? The banks have been utterly reckless in their business in recent years, but giving away that lot for such a trifling sum would be bordering on the criminal, would it not?

Anyway, didn't happen, OK? That's not to say that Rangers people shouldn't be worried, but they should learn to target the right people when letting off some steam. Muir is a strange choice. For the life of me I can't understand what exactly he has done to deserve the kind of stick he's been getting. One joker suggested last week that Muir's home address should be published online so that Rangers fans could go and stage a protest outside his door.

Muir is not an employee of the Lloyds Banking Group yet among the disaffected of Ibrox he is the symbol of the bank's persecution of the club. This is a bit trippy to be honest. Muir is David Murray's Mr Fixit. He is on the board in order to ensure that the club don't sink any further into debt. That's his job.

And it needs to be done. Rangers owe £31m and they're going to have to pay it back. Some fans interpret this as a hard line by the bank, a callous attitude that is threatening to destroy the club, but these people are not living in the real world. If you max-out your credit card and can't buy so much as a pair of socks on your Visa, whose fault is that? This is where Rangers are at. They're out of credit. It's payback time. This isn't anybody's fault but their own.

Walter Smith has been making dark predictions for the months ahead. The manager says this thing is only going to get worse, implying that the marquee players at Ibrox are going to be sold in order to service the debt. Smith's gloom is understandable, but it's not necessarily correct. The truth is that Sunderland offered £5m for Madjid Bougherra a little while ago and Rangers turned it down. So they're more robust on that front than some might think. We're not saying that Bougherra and Davis and Boyd and McGregor and Wilson won't be sold in the summer, but it's too easy to forecast a fire sale.

Rangers people have been talking about fire sales for two years and it hasn't happened yet. In the meantime, they've won a title and are ten points ahead of Celtic in their pursuit of another.

So, if Rangers fans feel the need to protest, then they'd want to be clear about what they're protesting over. The bank have not turned down an offer for the club, so forget that one. It's a myth. And they haven't insisted that players must be sold, or else Bougherra would be a Sunderland man by now.

But go ahead, boys. Take to the streets. Make your stand. Call Muir every name under the sun. But you might do me a favour while you're at it. Explain just what it is he's done that's made you hate him so.

Gordon_J, your a star. Couldn't get to the boozer to see the game today so had to put up with radio.

On a lighter note, the Independent reckon Robbie Keane looks like Mowbray's long lost son. Never noticed it before but they do have a point!

WGS you can be sure about that. Richmond is a disgrace. Last man, tackle from behind, foul, penalty=no booking, never mind a red card, Whistle goes, D'line player continues & has shot= no yellow card. Caddis complains about penalty=yellow card & on a sticky wicket.

Why are Celtic not complaining/shouting to the high heavens about these referees? Make some noise & put the spotlight on them.

You can be sure if these decisions were going the other way that there would be plenty of noise.

On a lighter note did you all notice how big McIntyre refused to dis Celtic when they asked him about the Celtic line up. They were sh&t stirring and he didn't bite. All he would say was how Celtic had a fantastic squad of players. Well done Big Jim.

Watched the two penalties again.

Caddis hardly touched the boy if at all, over reaction by the Dunfermline player. Penalty and Caddis booked.

Before our penalty the defender has a grip of Rasmunssens shirt pulling him back before he plays the ball to Keane who is brought down by the last man. Penalty and no booking.

Todays referee was the man who did not give us two blatent penalties in the 2-3 win at Motherwell and blew for full time as Fortuné was about to go clear through on goal.

Charlie Cheat Richmond.

We should have made a formal complaint after the Motherwell game, a game that was won and wouldnt have sounded like sour grapes.

Whatever you do don't go back to lurking.

There are blazing rows on here from time to time. I generally enjoy them as long as they are civil(ish) and not overly repetative.

I've changed my mind back and forward about whether wearing poppies on our shirts is appropriate or not and I started out Pro the STUC's Palestinian protest but ended up Anti.

Some cracking, eloquent, informed and informative posters on both these subjects and others.

As with any community we have drama queens and bullies and dogmatics (or is it dogmatists?) and passionate advocates and skilled debaters and on and on and on, but for my money it all adds up to a quality site.

We even had a stem cell research debate going at one point.

Some guys on here hate the non football stuff and others like it.

Anyway, my point is, keep posting. The more varied the views the more informative it'll be for me and hopefully others too.

Could I suggest that those who are offended by the songs sung at away games get themselves along to a game and voice their concerns direct to those involved.

I'm sure we would all benefit from such an encounter.

roccobhoy,

Heard a variation on this one. Think it could be Charlie Miller who had a loan spell at Leicester when MON was there.

Did he play under Advocaat?

Faith of our fathers, living still,
In spite of dungeon, fire and sword;
O how our hearts beat high with joy
Whenever we hear that glorious Word!

Faith of our fathers, holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death.

Faith of our fathers, we will strive
To win all nations unto Thee;
And through the truth that comes from God,
We all shall then be truly free.

Faith of our fathers, we will love
Both friend and foe in all our strife;
And preach Thee, too, as love knows how
By kindly words and virtuous life.

Whilst not wishing to put the kaibosh on Chic Young's second team (I loved those tears at the last game at Love Street) I would also welcome Celtic playing Chic's first team in the next round of the Scottish Cup, preferably at Celtic Park. Apart from an additional opportunity to beat them, it would also give our league games a certain symmetry. The next round, the quarter-final, takes place on the weekend of March 13. Between now and then we have five league games, starting Wednesday. Obviously we are hoping for a good run of results over those games, I would be happy if we could reduce our deficit by even three points. Interestingly enough there is another run of five league games between the quarter final and the semifinal of week ending 13/14 April, after which there is the "break", or another five games. I am not one of those who believes we need to win fifteen games in a row to get closer to the League leaders, but what I do believe is that we need to make up some ground in each of those three groups of five matches. We will not achieve that without a consistency not shown this season thus far, but if there are to be twists and turns, we need to make sure we benefit from them, an opportunity to knock them out of the Cup at the quarter-final stage could be very timely indeed.

Chelsea beat Arsenal 2-0. Good defence beats attacking flair.

Looks like a two horse race for the title now.

Two things bout BTMs comments, the first i want to clear up was regarding Rasmussen, he said that Rasmussen had said he could have contributed more, but BTM told him he is there to sniff bout the 6 yard box and get goals, so again no story there to beat BTM up with....

However, he said that we had far more possession and control in the first half, i wonder why, for those advocating why Crosas was hooked i despair for you i really do.

Caddis has plenty of effort thats about it, poor crossing and should never play right back again.

Its all about getting to the next round of the cup.

We'd have never gotten that penalty, never in a million

I'm going to new York over there for st.pats, does anyone know any good bars???

Sat in the hun infested pub today, and endured their sniggering at 2-1.

Well big GIRUY, we are through to the next round!

Still not given up on league, but Scottish cup is a must!! Wavered today at 2-1, our heads seem to go down too easy and I thought oh, no!

But credit to the Bhoys they stuck to the job.

Still lacking shape and I am not as convinced as others that our newly installed captain adds much!

The ref was a blantant cheat today, and this is the establishment's way of trying to kick us when we are down!

Onwards to Wednesday and an important 3 points!

well done Celts on the outcome my biggest worry is that any team we face must fancy their chances against us no matter who they are, we score a belter then a minute later let in a sloppy equaliser, through that first half I thought here we go again! We dont look like a team with any confidence, we must play better against the Embra huns on wed Hail Hail

Evening all!

A few Sauve Blancs down along with a few Magners courtesy of the Irish CLub in Melbourne where I watched the game all on my ownsome which was kind of coold as a I watched the two gran and glorious girls who were barstaff try to understand my rantings at the tele!

Kojo! Caddis is rank, or at least in all the games I have seen him. Can't cross, can run fast, but no final ball.....sounds all too familiar.....not having a go at ye big fella but my humble opinion of having watched him this eve! Mibees unfair but only going on what ah've seen recently!

Our new boy at left back....hate to say it considering our previous in that depot but he looks like he knows what he is doing and can cross a ball!!!!! Woo! A full back! Finallly.

Good to get the win in even though we still look like we cannae defend for toffee!

Hailus Hailus and aff to bed having listened to the Chelski scum come out with their usueal racial rants against the jews in the bar here in Melbourne. Nae wonder they share their fave publication with the scum acorss the river!

plus points today: won the game, have strikers who can score, ditched the 2 man midfield (part of the game anyway), kamara and braafheid looked really good, we scored a penalty!!! we now have a striker who doesnt want to be a winger!

minus points: defense still looking shell-shocked at times, taking crosas off, why? why not sammi who was rubbish again! second half brown-ngueumo never a partnership for me, zheng zi, absolutely crap today

Not getting over excited, 1 game at a time, today we did it thank god, now on to diet huns game

Gordon_J or any American Football fans.

Ive got a £10 free bet on the super bowl and not got a clue about the game or betting on it.

Are New Orleans a decent bet at 7/4? is anything from these available bets worth a go?

Back from the game via the pub of course!

Their penalty, no I was behind the goal the guy flew like a bird. Only reservation was the formation; we started 442; moved to 424; then planted McGeady for a 433; finally ended with 442 again!! Well that's a lot for the players to understand.

Fair play to Kamara too who I thought played really well!

Times have changed for the better, I reckon this is a game we may not have won a couple of weeks ago, thankfuly now we have some guile and quick reflex action up front. Take a bow the Keane and Rasmussen bhoys. Good performances also from our other new recruits Kamara and Braatheid.
Josh Thompson is coming along well but showed an alarming lack of pace when turned for the goal.

And another thing! Richmond! What a mamary if thy spelling be apt!

17 Mins. Their goalie and defender has a hold of one of our players. Result...a free kick to them.... Ball into the box in our end....penno....Get it right up yer damp patch ya cheating dirty (insert yer own) :o)

Fellow Fholks,
we have moved into a phase whereby we will (hopefully) be able to outscore our opponents. The defensive side will improve only when we get Jos fit again and probably DoD or young Josh alongside him. Not sure what we do with Loovens other than move him down the pecking order for CB.
For me Ras is now first name on the team sheet. Keane too must be on there in either a 2 man or 3 man attack. AB needs to be rested and reminded that he is not a first pick on current form.
Assuming that Hinkel and Hooiveld do not make wednesday night, I would go with :-

Zaluska

Caddis Thompson Loovens Braafheid

Kamara Nguemo Crosas Ki

Keane Rasmussen

That would give us a bench of :-

AB, Brown, Samaras, McGeady, McGowan, McCourt, O'Dea

Come on the Hoops!

ESTADIO NATIONAL
it will be a very close game tonight in the superbowl, it probably will swing both ways too close to call for me, both really good teams this year, if I had to pick I would maybee just edge new Orleans

I was at the game today, and was disappointed by some of the songs sung by some of our fans.
I'm glad there are others on here who thought the same.
To those who might say I'm easily offended, I couldn't give a toss what you think.
There were more non-Celtic supporting songs sung today than not.
This was alway a criticism I levelled at huns, that the songs they sang had nothing to do with supporting their club.

TON-CHE-TIM,

Good bars in NYC? Just walk down any street and you will find a friendly welcome. Many of them have fine Irish names too.

The Parlour is the best place to watch Celtic games (86th and Broadway). I could name dozens of others - depends on where you are staying.

Estadio Nacional,

7/4 in a two horse race tells the story. The Colts are anything up to 8 point favourites in the US. I'm hoping for an upset though!

Might be worth betting high on a points spread if you can. Both these teams score a lot of points. If they each scored their average per game, the Saints would win 32 - 26.

Hail hail

Why? I know the history (it's enough to make my heart go oh-oh-oh, etc. etc. etc.)

Do I need to pass a test before I'm allowed to be a fan or something? What's your point, or indeed, your problem?

Away all weekend and only got to see about 20 minutes of the game today which included their penalty and Rassmussen goal so i'm not commenting on the performance, what I will comment on is their penalty!

never in a million years in any other country or level of football would that have been given as a penalty, I would guess even that if that was at the other end the celtic player would be booked for 'simulation',

i know we all have seen this kind of decision go against Celtic for ever but i feel it is really getting so far beyond the joke now that something has to be done.

Can anybody seriously see that resulting in a penalty at ANY other game, imagine for a second if this was any of the epl playing against a lower league team in the fa cup! you would struggle to see any other coverage of the match on tv and i seriously doubt the referee would be seen again.
Rant over!

On another note I was at the game in drogheda on wednesday night and for the first half i thought scott brown was terrible but fair play to him in the second half he was much improved and maybe just needed a bit of match sharpness, reading many of the comments on here today he seems to have played well, so hears hoping he keeps it up

from watching on tv sounded like the following was sung near the end (correct me if im wrong):

aidan mcanespie, boys of the old brigade, go on home british soldiers and soldier song. Not sure about earlier in game as was too engrossed in the action

Not going to get into the rights or wrongs here but if we expect to ever get out of the spl some of the above songs will need to go. will never get invited to epl while it continues

Gerry K - the singing has been getting worse this season as we have played worse. Some twisted sense of defiance maybe.

Hamilton was very bad, as was Hibs at home. A lot of it driven by the Green Brigade, certainly at the Hibs game.

Like you, I am disappointed by these songs, but those who choose to sing them clearly put other things above the wider reputation of Celtic.

Gordon J:

What is an iota anyway? Has anyone ever seen one with the naked eye??)

It is the ninth letter of the Greek alphabet, pronounced 'Jota'.

I know this because I asked Sami. He told me it was Greek slang for getting the sack.

As in: "If I don't stop missing all these sitters I'm gonnae get ma Iotas."

AR'sRB - I echo SwanseaBhoy's sentiment. This blog (and any blog) is at its worst when everybody says the same thing. Perish the thought there will ever be a day when people are proscribed for stating their opinion.

By Anton Rogan's Right Boot on February 7, 2010 4:21 PM

The reason it is such a thorny issue is the obsfucation surrounding it and the lack of defintion of what is sectarian, political and illegal.

That is where the UEFA/SFA initiative on acceptable behaviour ran into the sand, but is not helped when the one song that is DEFINITELY illegal continues to be sung at some games with relative impunity.

When push came to a shove no one in Scottish Football wanted to define songs that were not acceptable with reasons why.

So it continues to be a thorny subject even although in the words of the one song that was banned by UEFA (the Billy Boys) can be found a criteria for what constitutes sectarianism that, were the will to do so there, would remove many of the thorns that surround the debate.

In the absence of criteria, debate on what constitutes what is pointless. Feeling annoyed/upset by a song is NOT a criteria for banning it, Otherwise my kids would never have heard of Mary's Little Lamb.

I get the impression the authorities in Scotland are sorry they got embroiled in the issue and would be happy to see a return to the days when we all just got on with it.

Prestonpans Bhoy, I noticed we changed shape a few times today although I'm not sure how much it was through instruction.

It looked like Sami was all over the park and played nearly every position. I'm sure he'd have fancied going in goal for the penalty.

He took a lot of abuse for not being in the box but he was playing a wide role for most of the game. Ras and Kamara were more forward 1st half and Keane forward with Ras in the 2nd half.

Sami kept going all game and didn't stop running. Ras did what he needed to but looked a bit unfit towards the end tho. Stamina will come.

Brown gave us a bit more bite in midfield.

Kamara, Edson and Keane all showed class today.

Gerry K

was there a song sung that could compare to the famine song, big jock knew etc...

I wasn't at the game but can you compare.?

You cannot fault Sammy for effort but he needs to learn that every pass does not need to be a world cup ball.

Our midfield as a whole also need to watch against being mugged as they take a ball with their backs to the opposition. They get no protection and when we do lose it it is in a very dangerous position.

Good evening all, missed the game today, delighted with the result but slightly concerned with the concession of a few soft goals again. Was glad to see Crosas back in the team ahead of Ki, even if he did only last 45!

For those at the game or missed it earlie there is a re run of the game is on sky sports 3 now !

Have to agree with you - Sammi played the role McGeady would have been playing if he was in his place - dropping deeper to collect the ball and helping out in midfield.

People have it in for him and while he might have lacked a bit of urgency and lost possession a bit at the end a lot of the play went through him. He is infuriating at times but only because you know he has the right attributes to be a top player.

I may have to look at it again, but I couldn't see a push on the forward. I thought it was a ridiculous award.
The commentators' remarks on N'Guemo "diving" just before our opening goal were also ridiculous.

todays game

cant believe some of the posters on here

caddis is a morton player, caught on wrong side of player then pushes him with both hands gets forward at will in first half and does not put ONE decent cross in but his names not mcgeady so we dont criticise him

samaras still has people on here defending him and i need to ask WHY!he doesnt make runs he doesnt read anything he wont go in where it hurts and constantly slows down play and inevitably loses possession

braafield looks the part he tired but doesnt give ball away and crosses good ball, kamara looks good at times but after watching him at wba and fulham cant get rid of my deep inner thoughts that he is sammi mark2

thomson is going to be good player but is not ready for first team and needs time away from first team to develop his strength and awareness

Jiří Jarošík at center half for Zaragoza who are 2-1 up against Sevilla.

I think the team have to be commended today.OK its Dunfermline and hardly a stern test, but coming back from behind to win was a test of character.

There was a lot to be positive .The new left back looks like what we have been searching for since. well since forever it seems. Kamara looks strong and confident, Rasmussen seems exactly the right type of player to be successful at our club and to see Robbie Keane score a goal in Celtic colours is a memorable moment.

We sill have issues at the back. Josh Thomson looks raw and I fear is being played because we have no one else at the moment and Loovens is simply not up to it. He is a liability at times. The Ramis deal may be the one that got away .Caddis proved today he is not a full back We have no composure at the back and this lack of confidence seeps through the team at times.

We now have options a plenty up front and in midfield, it may take another transfer window before we have the strength in depth we need at the back

notthebus

100% agree with everything..

where you standing next to me in the pub today?

Evening all,

For me today was a great victory. The team was under enormous pressure with the new recruits not having the luxury of a settling in period, we went at a team that were up for it and in our faces from the start. There was the worrying aspect of the goals conceded but we had the bottle for the first time in a while to keep the chins up and go at them.
I am really looking forward to the hertz game where with the great playing surface and open areas of CP i think we will see some good football.

I know there were a few problems today, but this is one bhoy who is sick to the back teeth of looking for the negatives which are all so easy to concentrate on. I'm going to keep a positive frame of mind because as i have said before, i can just about see something special coming.

Hail Hail

I think at the beginning of every televised game there should be a parental type warning

may contain dodgy decisions
goals may be conceded as well as scored
formations may change without notice
commentators and their summarisers will talk c**p
celtic players will get booked for no apparent reason
opponents midemeanours will be ignored
time added will depend on whether our opponents need it
songs may contain offensive lyrics
supporters of a nervous disposition look away now

Well spotted

Gerry K and celticfoo,
you do realise that you are only a short step away from being bracketed as "Hun Imposter", don't you?
You are not allowed on here to question just why some people think it acceptable to sing Republican songs. If you veer away from that then you will obviously not be "Celtic" enough for some.
Anyway, call it as you see it.
Many of those who find political songs acceptable on our part are amongst the more vociferous when it comes to condemning the Hunz for their offensive ditties.

Hypocrites'r'usCSC

Good evening all.

Had a very brief scroll through the posts and a bit suprised to see very few comments on the performance of Scott Brown. Given that the previous 2 days had seen endless opinions on the rights and wrongs of giving him the captaincy I tried to pay special attention to him whilst watching the game on telly. I must say that I saw a different Scortt Brown and was pretty pleased with what I saw. Didn't go on any headless chicken runs, kept everything pretty simple and overall I thought he did very well indeed. Wasn't man of the macth or anything but can't remember him doing much wrong.

Glad we're through with the chance to win the one Scottish Trophy where we hold the record for most wins. Rangers at home in the quarter finals would do me fine.

Jobo

Caddis was stupid - for me clear pen.

Did anyone see a structure in the team? I find it hard to say any player played well because it's not clear to me how the team lines up - and what constitudes a job jone.

Also I've lost two posts - if you've stolen them i'll get you!

Gordon-j
we are staying in midtown, opposite empire stats building, any bars there???

I see for some Sammi is becoming the new Naylor, I thought he played quite well today, never stopped trying and was unlucky with the shot that came back off the bar. We are not that big a team that we can simply jettison players because they are going thru a bad patch, and anyway that's not what we should be doing, we should be supporting them, encouraging them, that way who knows they might actually get better. Anyway Sammi, I'm on your side.

You sound guilty. gez ma posts back!

Anyway - what i said was that paul67 had accused the St Mirren fans of racist anti irishness booing last season against mcgeady. I was pointing out that this was proved as true because they booed a real irishmen (lafferty) all game against the huns yesterday. Proof that st mirren fans boo real irish players (like lafferty) and irish players by choice (like mcgeady) so they must be really anti irish.

Conclusive proof!

EN,

good shout on the London huns today.
they gave me a few bob courtesy of my perming the CQN Coupon picks.
Also had drogba 1st scorer and london huns on the handicap (-1) 15/8.

Got wee smug grin on chops after giving the bookie a wee kicking, which always feels good due to its infrequency.

Only wee downside was that I gave serious thought to NOT taking Norwich in the coupon esp. after having a wee post chat with GL2 about them on Fri night. Had i done so would have made a right few bob.
Oh well, canny win them all.

Well done Tony and the Bhoys.

Morten Rasmussen, he has the same striker's instinct as Boyd but only he's much sharper- great reflex for the 2nd stab at the goal, I really like the look of this Bhoy, moves across the back line far better than Scott McDonald, what a great through ball for Keano's penalty.
Scoring 2 goals (could be argued 3) in 1.5 games says it all- This Bhoy could be THE find for us in January- Tony don't you dare drop him for Wednesday.

One player who gets a lot of stick is Glenn Loovens, I thought the big man did well today- as he did on Tuesday- stuck to the task, keep it simple, no frills, well done Glenn.

A step in the right direction today, nobody needs reminding that 3 points are an absolute must on Wednesday.

Wee Broon has Motherwell on a run and I am more than hopeful 'well will get at least a point on Wednesday, after which lets see what they (Huns) are made of. Watched them yesterday, gash is an understatement- don't believe this nonsense about playing for a replay, this was the best they could muster.

Hail hail!

ianinascoli

Sammi is a confidence player, he is lacking at the moment...

watching the game today showed the difference bteween sammi and a goalscorer...
Ra Ra was in the box, Sammi made a few wrong decisions as did others when the simple ball was on
they where all guity, it was a toss up for him or Crosas to be subbed at half time...imho

Delighted we're through. Rasmussen looks a find and must be given a run in the team. Tony still worries me though. Not sure what system we're meant to be playing, we seem all over the place at times. None of us on here are likely to guess what team will line up against hearts - it all seems haphazard.

Folks, just a thought....

Maybe a paranoid thought....

But a thought, nonetheless.....

Blocking and pushing happens in penalty boxes all the time. And I mean ALL the time.
A ref decides to break with how these are normally dealt with (ie ignored) and decides he's going to call one out of the, err...blue.

Against us. then calls them no more.

The SFA decided (again out of the b****y blue) to make a stand against 'diving'.

Aiden gets sent off. The campaign dies a death.

A linesman decides to be the only guy in the planet to make up a fake 'goalie takes the ball out of the box while clearing...'

Against us. Never happened before nor since.

Commentators (and stuart dougal) decide that Fortune's goal 'should' have been disallowed...because 'technically' he touched the keeper. They say.

Again, a new one. A rule used one week, never used again.

I could go on. But i won't.....

Discuss....:)

Didn't see the game today but good to get a result at the end of the day. If we can now just get a run of two three results together and get the winning feeling back into the team and fans, then we will have a chance (sounds mad eh). I can't for the life of me ever understand how much is NOT being made of what is going on in Govan. If the situation was reversed we would be getting hung at dawn for our £31m debt(that's a fecking laugh as well by the way).

Hail hail.

The behind the scenes feeling from your post is that it's a matter of luck and good players that make a good team.

Good manager = structure, confidence, tactics, team spirit, punching above your weight!! Our manger just now gives that to the other team.

By weeronn on February 7, 2010 7:47 PM

BBC commentator yersterday gave Gallagher a hard time for taking out hun player, Thomson..

'keepers think they can do what they want'

hmmmmmmmmm

Mc gregor has done more players, than anybody but he ho...

Every player contributed a good shift today, some more successful than others.

The main thing was that everybody rolled up their sleeves and contributed to a win, in what was a typical cup tie.

We don't have to pick through the bones of every player's performance.

It is a team game and the team won today. Move on to Wednesday.

I think that part of the reason for the multi team changes, is the need to get all the new boys up to match fitness asap.

We lost Jos due to his lack of fitness.

jobo,
have to agree, did didnt look like the headless chicken I've come to expect, I hope he shoves my words right down my throat :o)

wwc,
I was going to ask shaunbhoy why should it become such an urgent/censored matter for discussion today, only after we get a positive result. Similar songs have been sung all season away from home without comment from our objectors, but results were not going our way, loads of opportunity to discuss it, why choose now ?

hmmm

strange timing, are we indded too hopeful ? :o)

comonthehoops

Just goes to show there is nothing new under the sun. I have on good authority that back in the day Noah and his followers got a lot of flack for singing a song that included the lyrics.........."We don't care what the animals say"!

TON-CHE-TIM,

Great place to stay - you are central for most things. Here are a few suggestions:

Jack Dempseys on West 33rd is close by.

So is Rocky Sullivans on Lexington at 29th. Great pub and has a juke box with more rebel songs that anywhere I've ever seen. And excellent Guinness. Owned by the singer from Black 47.

There's a Heartland Brewery on 5th, same block as the Empire. Nice range of ales and really good food too.

Stout on West 33rd between 6th and 7th is an excellent sports bar with loads of plasmas and great food

You may complain about the referees a lot but not after this game. They three were very fair today. For me it was clear penalty.

jobo

Got to agree with you. Cannot understand the negativity regarding Scott 'skip' Brown.

Was he fantastic and Celtic's man of the match? Probably not, but he put in a decent shift and had one terrific defence splitting pass.

Of course, I am judging him as a player who has had an operation and been out for months and this was his first game back in the senior Celtic side alongside five (may be wrong with that count) players he had never played with previously.

I'll tell you what, if he had played against Rangers when Lafferty nailed Hinkel he would have cut him in half the next tackle. He would have taken the booking but Lafferty would have thought twice about it before he did it again.

Lads, by all means criticise, but let's keep it real

Problem is we're all a bit on edge.

About songs

I find Our God Reigns as the most offensive doing the rounds just now. It's my god that reigns - not yours. And I’m not in your crowd so the "our" is obviously designed to ostracise me.

This obvious bigotry and bias should be addressed by the Scottish government. It should be banned from all public places - chapels/churches/wrestling matches.

Weeronn @7.47pm,

Astute observation on all counts.

Add to that the arbitrary (sic) use of the video review panel procedures (where oh where are those pesky procedures??)

Or the arbitrary (sic) decision to bring forward the date of a disciplinary committee meeting to deal with Bobo Balde's video review against Hibs due to the "high profile nature of the case" - which meant the media influenced the process and therefore influenced the games his supension applied to...

And...going back a wee bit...the arbitrary (sic) application of a £100K fine for approaching Tommy Burns at Kilmarnock...(previous highest fine for stated offence was £4K for Rearrangers poaching Drunken Duncan - yip, a staggering 250 times the previous fine!)

Are any of the above that different to the Jim Farry affair (apart from having being proven in a court of law, of course)?

There are more examples - these are just off the top of the head...

Árd Macha,

I haven't been in NYC since then so you may be right. Would be a shame as it was a really great bar.

I know that they opened a second one up in Brooklyn.

I see the "songs debate" is in danger of breaking out again. I have no wish to contribute to it, as I have said what I feel often enough on CQN. But I do wonder if those who feel justified in sullying a National Anthem with their add ons really understand what they're doing. I can't imagine any true Irishman or woman appreciating what they belt out. Having said that, I am only a Scot; so, what do I know.

I like Legia right back Jakub Rzezniczak. He is 23, International and seems to be the cert in new Poland team. Last Summer had an offer from Monaco. I think the price is circa 1,5 m Euro. I think he fits Celtic game.

canamalar/WWC,
don't ask me why it got raised, I didn't raise it. I merely pointed out to a couple of people that were flagging their disapproval up, just how the land lies on here at times.
To clear up where I stand on it, as a Tim I feel superior to the Hunz. They are an elitist sectarian bigoted shower. We on the other hand are supposed to represent the other side of that coin. Inclusive, welcoming, and unencumbered by the hatred that pervades their club. "Its not the creed nor nationality that counts".
If we are going to go down the road of allowing carte blanche as regards fan song choices then we have to accept that many outsiders will simply tar us with the same brush as them. We can debate the fact that many of their songs plumb depths that even our most "spicy" ones do not, but that will avail us nothing. We will simply be seen by many as the other side of their odious coin.
I'd prefer to forego the opportunity to sing those songs at matches in order to claim the moral high ground that we deserve.
Others will see it differently, and that is their prerogative.
Anyway, this debate just goes round and round as you say and nobody ever changes position. For that reason, having said my piece, I am going to refrain from commenting further. Not saying you are right and I am wrong or vice versa, just wanted to clear up why I hold my own personal views.

I watch these regular debates on the songs sung particularly at away games with interest. I never comment one way or another, but today I said to my son who is 22 years old - " I wish they wouldn't do that " - he agreed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not offended by them, God knows, I sang them often enough myself, I would just prefer that anyone singing them would choose a better stage to do so.

We frequently try to claim that we have evolved and look to occupy the higher moral ground whilst they stay firmly mired in the 17th Century, well outsiders don't think that - when we're chanting IRA ditties at a football match. Have we evolved ? or should we stop moaning about what others sing at the football because in the eyes of neutrals, we do something similar ?

Personally, I don't compare what the orange element at Ibrox (or elsewhere) sing with the type of song we heard today but as long as others (Not the singers of hatred)do then we should encourage the guys who want to sing these songs to take them elsewhere.

Some constructive criticism.

In spite of being delighted at getting a win today. . .

Why are we so bad at defending corner kicks?

Are the rest of you like me, sitting with your heart in your mouth, every time there is a corner against us?

In the same vein, why do we rarely look like scoring a goal from a corner? We had loads of corners today but ziltch. During MON's reign I thought we were going to score from every corner and I didn't think we would lose a goal from one.

Just one last thing. Penalties. Do you think big Artur looks like he's going to save one? No? Neither do I.

I respect your views.

myboysnowatim,

His joyless reaction to Rasmussens equaliser says it all for me. When people constantly post negative opinions then more than a small part of them want to see these opinions vindicated whether they realise it or not. It's human nature. It cannot be any other way although most will be loath to admit it, even to themselves.

Couple of thoughts on today

Like the look of big "Duncan" up front just what we have been missing (too bad our manager never thought to play him against Killie right enough)

I also thought - and this wont be popular - that Sammy looked no bad in midfield. Maybe that is his position - cos he aint a forward, but he is mobile strong and has great control and an eye for a pass.

As for the penalty to dunfermline - it just goes to show how we can all see it different. I thought it was never a penalty - yet my 70 year old father who played at a decent level for years thought it was a penalty.

Anyway - overall an improvement but lets keep it in context - against an average 1st division team.

Us signing Robbie Keane is like Man U signing Henrik Larsson.
i.e. Some of the magic will rub off on the rest of the squad.
So, even if he stays only to the end of the season my hope is that his influence will be paying off for this one and the next.

Young Rasmusson kicking off his Celtic career along side Robbie Keane. Does that sound good?
Aiden McGeady with someone to have a go at him in the dressing room at halftime and he HAS to listen. :) That does sound good.

Should be an enjoyable run-in to the season. :)))

TLV

oceallaigh,
couldn't agree more. You would have thought as a former defender himself that BTM would have had the know-how to set us up for defending corners. Instead it is heart-in-the-mouth time every time we concede one.
It is not just offensive corners that we seem incapable of capitalising upon. Virtually any set-piece we get ends up as a lame daisy of a lob into the box.
I too remember how formidable we were a few years ago when any chance to get the ball into the box had us looking likely to at least create a decent chance if not to score. Maybe we should suggest that they spend Mondays watching DVDs of the seasons between 2000-2005 to get an idea of what to do?

he never looks like saving a penalty, to be honest any kind of shot low in a corner he misses now. i hate to say artur is part of the defense problem and he should have a stint on the bench

Is it just me, or does anybody think big Loovens looks frightened these days? Bomb and scare pring to mind with him sometimes.

I feel it takes him at least a few wake up calls before he starts to get to grips. Too casual for my liking. Here's hoping we get someone in to partner Jos. Only seem Jos down at Rugby Park but one thing that stook out was that his head would always meet the ball when it came in his area. Breathe of fresh sir.

Loovens is a big lad but like the defenders that have left he seems to lightweight in the challenge, especially in the air.

I like Edson, here's hoping that he can better once fully settled.

Keane, Rasmussen and Kamara, seen a few times in the second half if they click, we have some armouray.

Aiden and George better start tuning in. Ball needs to be moved faster, wehen they are in possession. Head up and play the pass.

Nae Alcoholic Drink Nae Standing Nae Swearing Nae Smoking Nae Singing.Enough to put a auld timer like me off going to a game:-)

It is very easy to say that we should not be singing songs but in the first half when the crowd kept the ball from Braafheid there were obvious noises coming from the crowd that many in other European countries have been fined for.
It is football and things are going to be said and sung to put players, managers and referees off.
For the lifestyle most of these enjoy then I am sure it is shrugged off as a laugh.
Until the authorities stir up all from all supporters then nothing will ever change so no point worrying.

Wee left back only out of position as he was taking corners, and I ask why should he?

vale bhoy @ 5:25pm,

Regarding Jim McIntyre -

Wouldn't expect anything less from the man. He's Celtic through and through. I was pleasantly surprised by Dunfermline today. They knocked the ball around well at times. Possibly because we still look a little light in midfield.

I can't see TM dropping big Rasmussen now. He's made more than a couple of strange decisions in the past few months, but he isn't blind. It's clearly evident the presence and threat he brings to the team in the final third of the pitch.

Braafheid made a good start to his Celtic career today. Here's hoping he's the real deal and not another false dawn at left back.

Didn't get to see the game today, but I have thought Sammy would be better off in midfield in a few games this season. Particularly during one home game (can't recall which, think it may have been against Kilmarnock) I thought he would be excellent in midfield with Skippy and Fortune up front, although I think the latter was still injured at that point.

I loved the Scott Brown reverse pass for Robbie today - to me that's an example of why Keane is gonna be worth every penny; him being there can raise the game of others. Scott looked decent to day - a solid base for him to restart his season after injury, and to develop into the type of midfielder we need - someone that has a bit of dig about them in the midfield.

WGS
Said that to my son today about Loovens either that hes gave up although I thought he got a bit better as the game went especially after the third goal.

Richmond is a poor referee but today we were the authors of all our own misfortunes

TM is assembling a team that is very easy on the eye going forward but is clueless defending

We are a team with a very soft centre
This was Dunfermline we were playing today yet we made them look competent for much of the game - a team that has hardly played in the last month - a team that will not feature in our top league in the foreseeable future

AB - positioning at the first goal was yet again poor - well outside his post - the scoring shot which was not struck very hard entered the net in the centre of the goal

Thompson too easily turned
Caddis - ball watching for the first and too weak for the penalty
A soft award - yes but if you put up both hands against your opponent - you allow the ref to make a decision
Loovens - too soft - seems taken by surprise every game that his opponent will crash into him - does he never learn !

N'Guemo - Crosas - Brown
Sad to say probably the most physical midfield we can field - yet far too esily out muscled and out played by a very mediocre team when they came forward

I,m afraid to say that I have absolutely no confidence in this group of players going anywhere in Scotland and winning

The one big positive was Rasmussen
TM should tell the rest that their job should be to get the ball into the box for him !

Keane's movement was excellent as was his desire to get involved - hopefully Aiden will pick this up from him

Whover brought up how poor we are at corners - I got shouted at the other day for suggesting that the defenders weren't short if confidence in Arthur. Corners are a prime example. They don't know whether he's going to come for them or not. When he does, he invariably flaps at them. And when he doesn't they expect him do, so they're at sixes and sevens.

I thought corners was one of the areas where we seemed a bit calmer when Zalaskas was in goals.

croppybhoy

You're being a tad unkind on the team today, Dunfermline played better than half the premier league guff we face week on week and took the game to Celtic in a spirited cup tie style. Wednesday will be a more accurate test for the hoops.

Looking at the ticket site, it appears tickets are selling well for Wednesday.

The Edinburgh huns are long over due a hammering from us, long overdue.

We have the ability to do it as well, 6-0 would suffice.

Oceallaigh:
Totally agree re corners. now that we've got some height in the team ( Rasmussen, Thomson, Hooivelt) we should do better at both ends of the pitch. To give him his due, Loovens seems to be the only one to attack the ball when we get a corner but we are far too easily beaten in the air when defending corners. A touch of the Bobo Balde's required

Borwn right, McGeady left.

If "ours" means all of us, every last man and woman, then if a person sings our God reigns why can that not mean each persons own God reigns for them , as opposed to my God reigning over your God, which is how you appear to be interpreting it?

If my interpretation, which allows the song to be all inclusiive is as valid as one that makes it exclusive, who is to say which one is right?

Even if I were the only one on the planet to apply the interpretation I do, it would stil be right for me .

Thus it becomes a matter of choice. Join in by giving it one meaning or feel excluded by giving it another.

That is the gift of free will and choosing wisely, discernment, is the road to wholeness (a part of as opposed to apart from) and happiness.

You do not get stuff like this on FF ;)

Aye a good day. Fighting spirit coming from behind, a good display from all our new guys. Scott Brown back and a fair outing after such a long lay off. Yes we lost two but we scored four. Happy enough but begining to dispair of Arthurs body language and wondering if he will ever rekindle his sparkle. Maybe time for Tony to drop him and maybe shake him out of this apparant apathy. What would you have bet on him not saving the penalty?

Henry Miller plays a cameo of some sorts (saw the film several years ago and can't remember much about it - was probably drunk at the time :) ). Anyway I was just reading up some stuff on Henry Miller (just read 'Tropic of Cancer' again) and found this on Wiki:

"Before his death, Miller filmed with Warren Beatty for his film Reds. He spoke of his remembrances of John Reed and Louise Bryant"

Very spooky! :)

Happy to accept any kind of a win today and to score four goals - magic. We have only managed twice to win 3 successive SPL games this season. However, I firmly believe that we will gather momentum form this today. Assuming we win right through to the end of the month and come away with something from the third largest stadium in Glasgow, we will give ourselves a right good chance.

Come on the Hoops!

I was conscious after I posted that it could be intepreted as applying only to the many traditional/religious views of God whilst I meant a personal view of whatever it is each of us has that gives our lives the meaning we give it and a compass to steer through life by.

One point about the equaliser - Scott Brown was key to it as it was his header from Braafheid's cross that eventually led to Rasmussen scoring. Crosas and N'Guemo would never have been that far forward. I'm no fan of Brown but we need more of those runs. On Loovens, I thought he did fine today - I don't think any of Dunfermline's goals or chances came from him, or did I miss something?

Cheers Estadio
Hail Hail

If the Caddis challenge had been the other way round we would never have got a penalty. There may have been contact but never enough to put the forward off.

Even with a 2 goal cushion I didn't feel comfortable. This Celtic team has a habit of letting in soft goals and it's not just the defenses fault. They get very little protection from midfield, at one point we had Keane, Rasmussen, Samaras and Kamara playing. That's the kind of team I'd pick on Fantasy Football.

Still we're in the next round (and deservedly so)

"The most interseting guy I ever met was the ex-soccer player Jimmy Johnstone, from Celtic. What a character: the voices, the rhythms, the speech patterns...and he'd sing to me like Neil Diamond. He'd drink and come on to women. I named a dog after him."

For FYI only,I received a mail from our friend that we are meeting in the Abode Hotel for an aperitif before going on to lunch before the Game in the evening, you are most welcome to join us.

the bhould bhoy,

When I asked my da why he had started supporting Celtic in the 1930's when he first came over from Kilkenny to Scotland he told me this: ''I was in Dundee and I was walking through the town on a Saturday and I heard people singing in the distance. As they got closer I said to myself surely that's not Faith of our Fathers. It was, and I joined them. They had been walking from the station singing. I knew then that this would be my team.''

Further to that story here is another that my amuse some of you.

In the old days when Celtic came to play against Aberdeen many of the fans stayed overnight. It was a long journey in those days. On the Sunday morning they would go to Mass at St Peter's in the Castlegate before heading back home to Glasgow. The parish priest was Canon MacWilliam, a lovely old devout man.

Looking out from the pulpit at the sea of green and white scarves in front of him he would always have a sermon ending up with a great plea for cash for the church roof, hall, etc. His sermon would always be followed by the same two hymns: first, Hail Glorious Saint Patrick and second Faith of our Fathers.

He cleaned up once a year unless his prayers were answered and Aberdeen drew a home tie against Celtic in the league cup or/and Scottish Cup. Then it was a bonanza.

The Lord have mercy on him. A good man who baptised me, gave me first communion and married me.

I used to get into frequent arguments with a dear late friend of mine about the time and a place for rebel songs. I was always of the opinion that it shouldn't have anything to do with football.

When our players are racially abused in every match, I say what the hell, let the bhoys sing what they want, everyone else does.

What was the booing of robbie about , he has to be one of the least offensive, nicest "star" footballers playing these days, oh yeah, he's irish so let's boo him.

I am less offended by Celtic fans singing rebel songs than by the huns coming to our ground and singing their "songs" unchallenged, no doubt the hertz of midlithuania fans will treat us on wednesday.

let's leave the slagging of celtic fans to other websites.

My old man also said that I'll sing a hymn to Mary was popular at a time.

Ta,

Evening folks.
Was decorating all day, recorded the game and have just finished watching it. Not read anyone else's thughts, but here are mine.
Thought we controlled the game and never looked in any danger. My only fear was when Richmond the cheat decided to give the Pars the softest of penalties, the kind we will never see given in our favour. I know he awarded us a penalty for the foul on Robbie, but it was so blatant that even he could not justfy turning it down. My question would be why was Austin McCann not ordered off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity? Guess he was too stunned at having to award us a penalty.
As for the rest of the game, I was dismayed to see Crosas once again hooked, when I thought he was having a fairly good game, linking well with NGuemo neat precise passing and then moving, often into spaces his teammates regularly failed to see him in.
I suppose Tony will say that he got it right because we won but for my money, we surrendered a lot of the midfield later in the second half, and gave it up altogether when NGuemo ended up at right back. Right back? What was that about?
Positives for me were a good denut by Braafheid, good goal and direct running from Kamara and Rasmussen playing well, always there or thereabouts in the box. Deserved his goal and unlucky on another couple of occasions. He and Keane also lloked good together.
The substitution of Marc Crosas apart, my only other criticism would be about Artur's positioning at their first goal. Looked as though he was totally lacking concentration.
Overall, happy with the win. Maybe, just maybe, this will give some players the confidence to kick on and get the results required in the league (referees otwithstanding).

C'mon the Hoops

ggg,

I heard it's a tattoo in memory of his father. Robbie apparently promised him he'd play for Celtic one day.

My word on Songs is simply to say that my main criticism is that most of what's sung is so much done to death that its both boring and repetitive. I've seen and heard so many witty ditties over the years sung by our fans that I really wish they'd put in a bit more effort today.

Correct me if I'm wrong? But surely the song " go on home British soldiers go on home"sung today by the tramps is racist.Your telling people who are protecting people in the same country as them that they dont belong there.!! So i wonder if the press will be as quick to jump on them as they were with us with the famine song?

They are allowed to sing what ever fenian, plastic paddy tune they want to sing. I say the government should send in a few SAS to take them out.

However, the media will just be waiting for us to sing the famine song towards Robbie Keane in the next old firm game. You know, the highly offensive "The famine is over, why don't you go home"

Shower of b*******.

Evening fholks

Looked to me from the beebs highlights it was the linseman that gave the pen!!!

"Dirty Fenian Bast&^%s"? I think their manager might object to that sort of thing.

Neanderthals.

On the Crosas 'debate' I think he plays far too near our central defenders(remember when he nearly totally goosed it in the first half- why was that far back?) therefore, when he takes the ball, as he always wants to -a positive-, but he's too far back. We need our midfield much further forward creating problems for the opposition not our defenders.

That, and the fact that Keane's a class act and had agreed with Mowbray to play the second half, were the reasons Crosas had to go.

Wizard of Oz, ask yourself, would you have taken Brown(captain) off or Kamara(wonderful goal) or N'Guemo(not at his best but pretty tenacious?)

BTW, you and I agree on the shocking decision by Richmond(he is a cheat). How can he award a penalty against the last man who tackles from behind and NOT EVEN BOOK HIM?????

Celtic seriously need to start challenging these cheats and their decisions. Remember Caddis was booked for complaining.

The evidence is there for all to see. Take them on Celtic.

Concerned with Artur - where was he going during the Pars first goal? He's anticipated a completely different ball into the box & left his goalmouth totally undefended. Worryingly eccentric.

Their penalty was a penalty, daft by Caddis , but :

Why no card for McCann bringing Keane down ? Why no card for the aggressive appeals to the ref ? Why no card for the guy who kicked the ball away after the ref had stopped play ? Nade against the Huns gets sent off for that.

Have we got our response yet on the video referral panel ? Has another player been referred this season ?

CaltonTongues...deleted twice in 2 mins...Now...will he go for the hat-trick?

BBC highlights manage to irk as usual. Pars penalty a stonewaller - well spotted referee; Celtic penalty, Oh, I think he he got a touch! .... and let's end on a negative thought shall we: "The question is can they keep hold of him [Keane]? I think not." Still, take the result, esp after last week's fiasco.

A couple of quick comments on the game today

1) I agree with weeronn and mackybhoy that, while the win is welcome, the team shape is not yet evident. There was a good football reason for the number of changes today in personnel. With 3 games in 6 days, we are in a period where strains can be aggravated so shuffling the squad is necessary. Better to play some of our struggling players today, Samaras, Zheng and Aiden (?) than have to rely on 90 minutes from them in vital SPL games. I would still like to see Crosas/ Nguemo kept as a defensive pair. I realise we lose out on goalscoring midfielders but, I believe, we are less porous when they play. Does anyone have the stats for goals conceded when Marc & Landry play?

2) I have to disagree with Zbyszek on the penalty. The Dunfermline player runs backwards at speed into Paul Caddis. What should Paul do? Shoulder charge him in the back? Paul is entitled to hold his ground. The Dunfermline player conned the ref and fair play to him. Steven Bell, BTW, is the son of an old school mate of mine from the all conquering St. Dominic's RCP team of 1966/67. Now was that not a good year?

3) The songs. I don't know what you heard on screen but there was nothing much different from what is heard at most away games. I heard NO objectionable songs i.e. songs which will fall foul of UEFA rules (should they ever wish to do anything other than bury this topic as a lost battle). I would prefer it if it was not wall-to-wall reb songs and that there were a few Celtic FC songs thrown in to leaven the play list, BUT, I prefer the presence of singing to its complete absence at Library CP.

4) My Celtic heroes of the day in reverse order:-

Third- Robbie Keane- I could see a galvanising effect today which was absent on Tuesday.

Second- Ra Ra Rasmussen- I have waited a long time for a penalty box striker with presence and persistence. (Kamara deserves an honourable mention for leadership today. There was not as much difference between the performances of Braafheid and Caddis as the TV watchers suggested).

First- Tom English- that article on the Lloyds protest was sharp and funny. They may be 10 points ahead and have bragging rights at present, but it's still good to prick them on their pompous concept of themselves.

Some promising signs today. although familiar frailties are still apparent.

Thought that Braafeid, Kamara, Keane, Rasmussen, and NGuemo did very well.

I'm a critic of Scott Brown but today he looked composed and in control. More of the same from now on please.

Defensively we are poor. Thompson will be a star, but until he matures he's going to get caught like he was for their first. What, however, is Boruc's excuse? Where was he? Standing eight yards out leaving half he goal completely exposed? His value plummets as his weight increases...

As for Mr Richmond:. Actually, I thought he was not bad, but the penalty was soft in the extreme. Until we see the Huns being penalised for such innocuous challenges I will continue to think that we are on the wrong end of biased refereeing this season.

And the songs... ach, can't be bothered going there. Totally circular debate.

PF ayr, Celtic made a statement on 16th October asking for clarification on the Loovens case, we are still waiting for an answer. They should be asking publically every week until we get an answer, then start on the rest of the cheating, easier for them to do nothing though, then we can blame the refs rather than them for our current position.

Ah hate Pat TOEPOKE Nevin and Sportscene.

SFTB,

Agree 100%

Crosas and N'Guemo are a must.

No changes in central defence either, keep Josh and big Glenda together, despite faults, no more tinkering.

Ra Ra and Keano up front.

Build a spine.

Limit the 'channel runners'

A random formation, a la Mowbray on Wednesday, would be madness.

Sleeves up time

Wizard. I take your point re. not making a sub but, apparently, Robbie & BTM had come to an agreement that he would play the second half. That being the case then Crosas was the logical choice. Brown is not untouchable(FFS we're still waiting for the potential to show) but Sammi can change games so he was left on.

Enjoy the superbowl. Hope your team wins.

goldstar- McCann was NOT booked.

I know the TV watchers complained that no Celtic player protested the Caddis penalty award but THEY did. Caddis was booked for doing so, Brown spoke to the ref at length and Kamara actually walked across the penalty spot and tried to put Kirk off the award when the ref shooed him away from his protest.

tttt

I liked your definition to Gordon J of the word iota.

You claimed it was an IRA splinter group-

Irish Operationally Transitional Army???

I'm Off Training Army

It's Only Trimble Agreed

kingoh,

Behave, I can work my own ticket but, let's have a POLL as to who a moderator is?

I worked one of them out months ago:-)

SEEMPLES

cardiffbhoy

i agree wholeheartedly

we have to pursue this as we are the sinned against re the review panel

it appears to operate at the behest of the media

we all know who they favour

the most memorable incident which was never considered was McGregor`s karate kick on Elliot at Swinecastle

yet no mention

we must know how this system operates
the furore if that had been Boruc would have been unimagineable

as for the ref indiscretions they have to be highlighted when blatant errors occur...just putting a marker down that bad decisions will be brought to book

Almost kick off time.
Head says Colts by 10, heart hopes for the Saints.

Calton...

No more polls...PLEASE!!!

so who do we want to win the superbowl? Remember a couple of years ago it was the Giants because their kicker was a tim from Greenock.

Any reasons why one or other should have our support. Colts because with one change of letter it say Celts?

What is it with the John Terry love in? Have i missed something here?

sftb,

Landry and Marc have started matches together 13 times so far this season in all competitions.

(H)1-1 Dundee Utd
(A)2-0 St Mirren
(H)0-1 Hearts
(A)1-2 Dundee Utd

(A)3-2 Motherwell
(A)3-3 Rapid

HE IS A PORT BHOY

WGS

You want to reconsider your choice of words :-)

Hymns are in, rebs are oot?

Seriously?

Nafos

My spine would include Crosas/ Nguemo as between them they provide what Neil Lennon did.

To limit the channel runners, Rasmussen is a must. Keane, Kamara, Sammi and MAF all run the channels.

I'd play 4:2:3:1

Boruc/ Zaluska (the gap is closing)

Hinkel Thompson Hooiveld(or O'Dea) Braafheid

Crosas Nguemo

Any 3 from McGeady, Brown, Ki, Keane, Kamara, Fortune, Sammi, McCourt, McGinn

and Rasmussen

I agree that Wednesday and Saturday are more important games. We need to cultivate clean sheets as a habit. I disagree only on Glenda- for me he is too casual in his defensive habits. good in the air but I can see Kenny Miller robbing balls of him as he dallies with his clearances.

Super Bowl time as the teams are introduced.
Razzamatazz and big ad spend.

Colts for me by a couple of TDs.

We're on our way. Many of our signings are getting time on the park under their belts, and will come together in time.
Hopefully before Wednesday.

Scanning through the posts I don't see much comment on Samaras.
I gues that's a fair reflection of his lack of contribution / impact today. I suspect he will some become another bench warmer as Keane and Rasmussen feed on the scraps in the box.

Songs. Well I hope our fans are singing loud and long at the end of every game over the next 4 months.

'GG Go Colts.

saint stivs fp

Well....Sorreeee!!! No need to shout but I know how touchy you Bhoys down there are with the whole port/greenock thing.

Kingoh
Saints, because of Hurricane Katrina and it's their first time in the final.
Brees is the only qb that can go toe to toe with Manning. Should be a cracker!!

kingoh,

Indy play in blue and white, which is a good reason to go against them!

Don't think there is anyone playing with a connection to consider.

I'm going for the underdog Saints in their first ever superbowl. And N'Orelans could do with a break.

SFTB,

Almost an agreement!!!

Things are lookin up.

Gerry K

OK, Only game I've ever been to was Saints-Redskins in the Superdome so good enough for me....C'mon the Saints!

Gordon J,

Looking forward to the Superbowl. I'm going for The Saints to prevail. And this has sealed the deal for me -

In EA Sports' annual simulation of the celebrated American football contest, the New Orleans Saints narrowly defeated the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV by a score of 35-31.

Every year since 2004, EA Sports runs a simulation of the Super Bowl using the team's current roster and statistics. The simulation has correctly predicted the outcome of five out of the last six Super Bowls, including last year when it was prescient enough to know the score plus or minus 1 point and even nailed a few individual statistics. This year, the Madden 2010 simulation accurately predicted who would win both the AFC and NFC Championship games and their final scores within a margin of only 3 points.

:-)

Vale bhoy and Garygilespie,

The words of the Jimmy McGrory song as I knew them was,,

In the war against Rangers, in the fight for the cup,
Jimmy McGrory scored and put Celtic one up,

He's done it before and he'll do it again,
Our Jimmy McGrory, the Pride of Parkhead.

Martin42.

setting free the bears on February 7, 2010 11:15 PM,

I've noticed that Loovens is poor in the first half and good in the second half. May be due to opposition running out of steam.

Weird.

WGS

My missus likes him :-)

CSIAL

Not such a good record. Were all those goals conceded when they were on the pitch. How does it compare to form without them on the pitch?

monteblanco- Can we not have both? Plus pop tunes, player and manager chants and a few football songs too?

Gordon_J

Only had to read the first 6 words of your post....good enough for me!!!

chris sutton is a legend,

Yeah I saw that. Love John Madden, tv football isn't the same without him.

Think it will be a high scoring game, really looking forward to it.

Loovens is far too soft to be a CB

he goes down more often than Ricky Hatton at a Pacman fight

Yanks know how to do a national anthem!!
A fair set of lungs on Miss Underwood.

Carrie Underwood - a stunning version of the Anthem.

SFTB

am sure someone will find a politically correct reason for doing away with all that sort of thing
:)

GerryK

A fair chanter. The organisers of Active Nation Scottish Cup Final should be picking up tips. We'll get Amy McDonald singing and Nicola Sturgeon meeting the teams. Glitz and glamour, Hampden style.

CSIAL,

Cheers for that. I'll have an early night cos up at 6am.

Nafos

If we were in complete agreement, we would both have to reconsider our opinions :-)

I'm away to watch the US egg chasing game. I claim to be a Steelers fan because I liked The Deerhunter. That's when you realise the difference between supporting a team as a fashion accessory and the real thing.

I'd bet the Colts to win. I hope that New Orleans has something to celebrate, however. Might get a new James Lee Burke book out of a Saints superbowl win.

boruc

why are so many people on here trying to have a go at boruc for first goal

anyone who knows football or has coached at any level will know that after the guy had skinned thompson any goalkeeper MUST be covering the front post when the player then squares it all the keeper can do is try and get across and hope his defenders have covered there man

unfortunately caddis had followed his man into box but had lost his concentration and man and by the time caddis had realised he was too late

as someone who has coached and studied many good coaches i can safely say that those criticising boruc for the first goal are talking p***

DAVID O'LEARY last night told Robbie Keane he's wasted in a sub-standard SPL.
Keane's old Leeds boss appreciates the striker's motives for joining boyhood heroes Celtic on loan from Spurs.

But he still finds it hard to believe that £65,000-a-week Keane is happy to swap the Premier League for a much poorer stage.

O'Leary said: "We saw at Elland Road on Wednesday exactly why Robbie hot-footed it to Celtic. Jermain Defoe's hat-trick underlined just what he was up against at Spurs. Jermain has 20 goals already this season and Peter Crouch is always going to be the more obvious partner for him.

"It's not that Robbie's a bad player or Harry Redknapp no longer fancies him.

"It's just that he is competing against a player on fire.

"I know from working with Robbie at Leeds he does not take kindly to being left out of the team.

"He has a Wayne Rooney-like enthusiasm to play.

"No matter how much money he has, he just wants to play football - and so I can understand why he has gone to Celtic.

"But he will quickly realise that Scottish football is at a low ebb. He's gone from playing in Europe's top league to one which is ranked 15th.

"That's too big a drop for a player of his calibre.

"Sure, Celtic are a big club, one which almost everyone in Ireland wants to do well.

"But unfortunately the standard of the SPL has probably never been lower."

But despite a sickening debut defeat at Kilmarnock, O'Leary believes fellow Republic of Ireland legend Keane can still pick up a title medal.

He added: "I'd not be surprised to see Robbie get a hatful of goals and for Celtic to win the league.

"I know they are 10 points behind Rangers but I still reckon they can turn it around. Even before they brought in Robbie and all the other signings, I thought they were a better side than Rangers."

4 goals a Robbie cartwheel a rassa double and a
sing song, whats not to like about that

An oldie but goldie

NFL on CQN

For all those supporting the Saints, I don't think the Colts will feel any sentiment for them.

This could be over before 1/2 time.
I am being conservative with my 2 TD Colts win prediction.

Toss up taking place and the Saints receive.

'GG dipping into a chips and humous dip.

James Lee Burke is my favourite author.

Shimiies,

His condition and overall state of play suggests he aint interested anymore. The keeper we once had is gone. There were times he would do everything. Now you aint confident in him and any low shot that is hit, he's slow at getting down.

Something aint right with him.

sftb,

Celtic have played 24 matches in all competitions when only one of Landry and Marc were playing.

WARNING - Rangers related article:

Spiers in The Times:

IF I were a bookie I’d be taking no more bets on Walter Smith’s place at Rangers beyond the summer. One of these days soon there is going to be a tabloid backpage race to be the first to proclaim “Walter: I’m Off!” but the truth of it is, we can see it coming already. The Rangers manager has just about had his fill of things at Ibrox.

Smith is a shrewd media player — he rarely stumbles into situations or headlines which aren’t of his own design. So when Rangers forged past St Johnstone to reach the Co-operative Insurance Cup final at Hampden last Wednesday night, Smith precisely chose his moment afterwards to tell the BBC’s Chick Young live on air that things were “only going to get worse” at the club and that people were “deluding themselves” if they believed otherwise.

Immediately sensing that he was pouring cold water on a moment of Rangers triumph, Smith then reined himself in and refused to go any further on the subject with the bold Chico. But the deed had been done. Once more, with a few acidic words, the Rangers manager had made his feelings known. This is one brassed-off coach who is not going to tolerate much longer the financial carnage of a once-proud club.

Smith has just reached his sixth cup final since returning to Rangers in January 2007. He doesn’t need me to be added to the throng of media voices who regularly fete him but, suffice to say, it is quite a feat. His stewardship of the club on the pitch has been robust and keenly-thought. Smith has not been without his aberrations — Kyle Lafferty at £3.5m being one — but Rangers are defying the odds on the field because of him. In his office, however, Smith is now encountering aggravation upon aggravation.

It is too
