Celtic will receive £1.65m from the Uefa revenue distribution system for participating in the Champions League play-off round against Helsingborgs. Add to that around £1m gate money and the guarantee of at least three Europa League games, with Uefa distribution money, you can calculate the value of Wednesday’s win over HJK Helsinki as no less than £6m (all figures are net of vat). Quite a prize for one game.
Compare this to the projected income from newco The Rangers, who claimed to have sold 25,000 season tickets. If all sales were at full adult prices (£258 in vat), net income would be £5.375m.
Should Celtic overcome Helsingborgs and reach the Champions League group stage, the club will return to a remarkably strong financial footing.

Can anyone clarify the -10 points thing?
Their team were deducted 10 points in February when their club went into administration.
Is it true that administrators Duff and Phelps are still in situ and that the administration process has not been brought to a conclusion? If so, if this were the same club, would it not have to start the new league campaign on minus-10 points?
The official SFL website has them preparing to kick off on zero points. Does this constitute incontrovertible proof that the SFL and the SFA have included a new club in division three (for their own reasons) and that this is not the same club as the one that received the standard ten-point deduction in February?
If it is not the same club, why is it being presented with the same name?
Can anyone explain?
Merci.
Hi pal,
Hope that you and yours are all in fine fettle………..
Cannot offer an explanation but can understand your bewilderment if I am reading you right. Sure beats me wrt the the three monkeys media routine. Especially the further deduction of ten points for remaining in administration at the start of a new season. You may remember that my predicted outcome was for them to continue to limp along in administration waiting for a Blue Knight to rescue them from ignominy and bankruptcy (wrong again; no surprise there). So was also keen to see what would be the ramifications of this course of action, as to all intents and purposes the club that was, are! Apparently there are no sanctions, fines, actions, etc., looks like it never really happened eh!
Seeing as you referred earlier to Laurie Lee’s Cider With Rosie (if I remember correctly) and the acceptance of statements misinterpreted.
Something akin to such; the plot of Tom Sharpe’s The Throwback pretty much covers what is panning out over Ibrox way. Farcical, I know but makes for an even better read second time around when the parallels are made………
God Bless.

did anyone else hear this: bbc scot claiming mike ashley 10% deal done. I may be wrong but it sounded like Rangers will become feeder club for Newcastle Unt. They will give more details at half time apparently.
How can one owner of a club claim a stake in another? I didnt think that was allowed. Maybe 10% ownership of a second club in a different country league is permitted by UEFA/FIFA?

re the 10 points thing.
This is an SPL rule and not an SFL one. SFL sit and judge each one on its own merits, hence Livi being relegated and Dundee being docked 25points…
The Board shall have full power to deal with as it thinks fit, including power
to deduct Championship points before or during a season and/or to impose
a player registration embargo on a Member whom it finds to be guilty of
conduct contrary to the interests of the League and its Members or which
is potentially likely to prejudice the orderly progress of the League
Championship and/or the League Challenge Cup Competition in any
season. For the avoidance of doubt such conduct may include a Member
being in or taking steps to enter or being subject to proceedings which may
result in the Member entering Administration, Liquidation, Sequestration,
or having a receiver or judicial factor or trustee appointed to it or to
substantially all of its assets,…
The Board have already met to decide the ‘punishment’, i.e. they rewarded a new club with a place in the League with no punishment whatsoever and no considerations given to any other clubs who may have been wanting membership of same.
Additionally they were ‘punished’ by changing the rules regarding associate membership and income distribution to enable the new club, with no financial statements to the effect of ensuring their ability to trade as a going concern, to receive additional funding that no other new entrant would have had access to.

The Pozzo family who own Udinese also own Granada in Spain, and have just bought Watford and installed Gianfranco Zola as manager.
The rules obviously allow someone to own 2 or more clubs in 2 or more countries – but what happens if these clubs are then drawn against each other in a European competition?!

Depending on the draw, we could be looking at Northwards of £25m.
Can you imagine the price of tickets for a Celtic, Barca, Man City and Juve group? Corporate sales would be through the roof for those, but we’d be asked to fork out £35+ each game.
Without getting ahead of myself, I’m hoping for Porto, Olympiakos and FC Nordsjælland (when we get into Pot 3 – big ask it is though). Don’t care for the gate money, tbh, would rather a stronger chance of rnd 2.

That must be it then.
The Mike Ashley thing is old hat but the inference to the huns becoming a feeder club for Newcastle was news to me.
So Ashley can flood the huns with Newcastle kids/reserves until sevco are eligible for europe.
Sevco as a feeder club. Hmmm something very satisfying about that. Humiliation complete or thereabouts.
The Huns dressage will be sublime when they try to explain their way out of this.
Supposedly all will be revealed now on bbc scot.

There was a lot of pressure on Celtic for that last game. I thought we deserved to go over there with at least a 3 goal cushion but we still got the job done.
If we play the way we can against Helsingborgs then we should get through with a goal or 2 to spare IMO.
The good thing is, the pressure is off to an extent as we have the much needed Group Euro games, EL or CL.I am sure the players will do everything in their powers to get to the CL.
The money available in the CL is unbelievable, and it is shocking that we have been cheated out of these amounts for the last few years.

Celtic First
Sorry I missed your posts. I had to go out for some shopping.
I think the MSM are on the one hand trying very hard to keep the fans of Sevco onside – buying the papers and listening to the shows/watching the TV – but on the other we have a whole section of the country in denial over what liquidation means. Continually people are referring to Rangers not The Rangers and moreover they are trying to tell us they were relegated when none of these things are true.
This is the plan – repeat a lie big enough and long enough and people will believe it.
Shocking but entirely predictable.
