I was delighted when Dundee were awarded the vacant place in the SPL in July last year. They are a club with an outstanding history (check it out here) whose fans have suffered poor performances and downright bad decisions since the finished within a point of Dundee United and Aberdeen, and were relegated from the Premier Division in its first season.
With a latent, considerable-sized supporter base, by any measure they should be a secure SPL club. Only Celtic, Sevco, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs have more fans, although Dundee United may have closed their historical gap.
If Rangers had not been liquidated Dundee would currently be in the First Division, most probably at or near the top. Barry Smith would be getting ready for a final push for promotion. Promotion came too soon, they are miles adrift and will be relegated unless Hearts go into administration, suffer a 17 point penalty and make players redundant.
Sacking Smith and appointing John Brown, in political terms, could be described as a brave decision. ‘Mad’ is another word you could use. Reports that (suffering) Dundee fans, and shareholders, are in revolt at the appointment, should surprise no one. John Brown’s very public performances last year marked him out for his communication skills, ability to plan and make considered decisions. Put him in charge, and you know what you’re getting.
Should we beat them tomorrow, spare a thought for those in dark blue in the corner of the stadium.

Canamalar, I realise I may be debating with the equivalent of John Brown here, but I am not “are offended by Irish folk songs at Celtic park (sic)”. Several days ago ruling that IRA songs should not be featured on CQN is considerably different than your misleading characterisation.
Hope you can appreciate the difference (I don’t hold out much hope). If not, I’ll just have to learn to live with it.

P67 decided very recently that he will no longer allow the lyrics of Irish folk songs which refer to the IRA regardless of the era.
This is a new condition, corkcelt posted the lyrics to a pre easter rising song which P67 censored, with the argument it has no place on a football blog, yet he is happy for posters to make openly racist comments (kojo) as if it does have a place on a football blog.

Not sure what Paul67 logic is on that one.
Spiers was clear, unambiguous and spot on- Rangers (old and new) have had for some considerable time a far worse problem with their fans sectarian behaviour than we have with ours.
