Significant supporter relations initiative

577

Celtic’s statement yesterday (available on Phil Mac Giolla Bhain’s site) covered a lot of ground.  It explained the environment the club operates in, its policies and strategy, gave historical context of their objections to the Offensive Behaviour Bill and on-going opposition to the Act.  In short:

Where we are
How we arrived here
What we’re doing about it

Most importantly of all, the club again advertised the Supporters Complaints Review Panel, populated by Celtic fans to investigate and review complaints by fans.  The importance of this structure has yet to be fully understood but it is the most significant development in supporter relations since Brother Walfrid said, ‘How you do fancy starting a football club?’

I spoke to three prominent supporters yesterday about the schisms among us, all of us were so dispirited.  Fortunately, our good friend Jeanette cheered me up this morning and assured me we are pretty much on the one road (my words and not a cue for a song).

And it was Jeanette Findlay, not Krankie, before you ask.

The football will be back soon, hang on in there.

  10. johann murdoch on

At a time when we have reached the last 16 of the CL-[above our initial expectations] – a league just about won- a scottish cup semi final to look forward to- a sound financial base for the club not just now but going forward- an excellent scouting system in place- a sound back room infrastructure-why the schisms? why the apparent in-fighting?-lets pull together as the Celtic family and move forward focussing on the football, the club and how and what we might achieve in the future.

Well done for keeping everyone up to date.

I had an altercation with a police officer last season and made a complaint direct to the polis, the guy who came out to see me was very good and resolved the issue very quickly, the PC won’t be allowed to police CP again and a note was put on his file.

Sir John Harvey Jones in his lectures and books comments….”98% of disputes are down to a failure to communicate”. Having been involved in disputes and negotiations I can only see he was 100% right.

Unswerving support can be dangerous whoever receives it.

That is my point. There is no ideal, only human beings making judgments on a basis that changes from time to time. That is the complicated reality and whilst that makes it harder to accept it is a feature of human nature.

Ill link to what the run up to the poppy banner was later. It is an example of what happens when, by accident and not intent, the view of all was not taken into account by the few.

I know a guy who suffered as a result of that.I like to think he learned something as a result.

Im not so sure everybody likes the lessons reality is teaching us.

The statement doesn’t appear, or purport to be, such.

Rather it’s just a general response to concerns expressed.

It certainly doesn’t answer the specific questions put by Phil.

It’s also noticeable that the statement doesn’t deal with the particular points made by Mr Crainey.

If Peter Lawwell has blundered, or said something he now wished he hadn’t said, I’d rather he just said so rather than try to obfuscate, adumbrate and prevaricate.

Phil asked the question. Phil, in the absence of an alternative medium to reach the support at large, got the answer.

It all points to the provision of an alternative medium. My consistent point over 3 years.

Its is our collective atttitude that needs to change. Once we drop our attachments to our respective positions in pursuit of what we each believe is in Celtic’s best interest and actually listen to anothers heartfelt position, nothing will change.

That requires dialogue, the meaning of which also needs to be understood by all parties.

Either that or its ongoing strife.
