Balde, Hooper, summer challenges

1119

13 June and Celtic have signed a striker!  Do we have some important games coming up early in the season?  6’4” Amido Balde joined Sporting Lisbon three years ago but never made an appearance for the club.

After three loan deals he joined Vitoria Guimaraes a year ago, where he caught the eye of Celtic scouts.  At 22-years-old, he is right in the sweet spot of Celtic’s recruitment strategy: fully developed physically, old enough to be considered prime first team material but with many years of prime football ahead.

Playing for Celtic is quite different than playing for Vitoria Guimaraes, so it may take Amido a period of adjustment to settle into life as a Glasgow sporting celebrity, but he is clearly the man Neil Lennon and the scouts wanted.  Based on that, I’m happy.

Despite what could be described as cover, and the fact that the player has declined a new contract, I’m still not happy to sell Gary Hooper.  We have lots to do this summer before that moves up the agenda.

Welcome to Celtic, Amido.

The raffle for a signed Celtic top in aid of 1254125 ends early tomorrow morning. THIS IS THE LAST CALL FOR TICKETS, which cost only £1 each. Get in there…..

  1. Kayal,

Any thoughts on a move for Genoa players. Would have a sell on value

    Andrea Bertolacci

  2. Unless Hooper moved to a CL involved club, there is no sense, for him or Celtic, in moving until after the qualifiers.

GH, if he is still with us, would be on fire in the quals, in a bid to impress bigger clubs than Hull / Norwich, etc.

Earl won first prize at a Father’s Day tournament which was an envelope.

When he opened the envelope, he was very surprised to find a voucher for a free visit to a brothel. He had never been to one before but he decided to go the next day even though he was very nervous.

The girls were very friendly and soon he found a lovely young lady and went with her to her room.

Five minutes later, she came running to the Madam and asked,

“Can you tell me what a Mulligan is?”

  4. Was at the Greenock CSC last night.

    Superb entertainment.

Willie Wallace, a true Celtic legend, was wonderfully funny at times and throughout came across as incredibly modest. ( Why is he not our Aussie scout?)

We got a great insight into just why the Lions were so great; Willie often spoke of the 17 man squad being the key, not simply the 12 who stripped at Lisbon.

I’m pretty sure the bonding and friendship,to this day, these guys share in what made them the very special group they were and in part explains why they were such a great team – apart from their obvious individual talent.

Thanks to BRTH and all at the Greenock club for providing a memorable night.

  5. Oops sorry. that didn’t work. Trying to repost from end of previous article.

  7. Welcome Amido.

Wow, BOBBY, we are likely to make the last 8 this season now in the corrupt Champions League.

Celtic, just keep on keeping on.

I dislike Globalism big time, the Bible warns about that way back at the start, we can be a real force for Good however and keep preaching the true tenets of Christianity in our actions, as a Club.

Looking for a favour. A work colleague is attending her first racing meet at Musselburgh today – do any of the horsey CQN crowd have any tips I can pass on?

  10. Let’s hope Amido develops into a top player. I think it’s a good move to get a physically strong and imposing striker.

This is what this year’s top European clubs have, Bayern with Mandzukic and Dortmund with Lewandowski. I would also like to see us play the same 4-2-3-1 system as these two clubs, but the central player of the 3 has to be someone who can score, create and really work his socks off. I don’t think we have such a player.

A father spoke to his son, “It’s time we had a little talk, my son. Soon, you will have urges and feelings you’ve never had before. Your heart will pound and your hands will sweat. You’ll be pre-occupied and won’t be able to think of anything else .”

He added, “But don’t worry, it’s perfectly normal…it’s called golf.”

It is obvious Celtic have taken their TIME scrutinising this player.

He will be a CL sensation IMO.

We don’t have to rush anything anymore, our Board have got us into this situation.

  14. Bobby Murdoch … @ 10.12

I agree, he’s the closest, but he doesn’t have the engine of a Muller (Bayern) or Goetze/Reus (Dortmund). But I would like to see him in that central position, with Forrest and Samaras playing wide.

  15. E njoy the golf folks. I never played the game, was the ball’s friend and the turf’s enemy.

” When he signs a contract , I’ll be the first to know. Something will happen in the next 2 weeks . It looks like 3 clubs want my boy —–Real Madrid / Manchester City and Chelsea . My boy wants to play for Real Madrid , I want to my boy to be happy so I hope he gets what he wants.”

Napoli’s owner has repeated that the first club to hand over a minimum of 63 million euros can have Cavani . Cavani has reiterated his desire to play for Real Madrid .

Hey lurkers it doesn’t. It puts money into the pockets of whoever sold the shares.
