So which journos were secretly being paid by Oldco?

622

How many people working as ‘journalists’ in Scottish football were secretly on the payroll of Oldco Rangers (or Rangers International, for that matter)?  Is this common practice in newspapers, did the Daily Record know about it? Wonder how they will play the news story…

Any suggestions as to who else might’ve been on the oldco/Sevco payroll?  Any ex-Celtic players?

Most of us have spent the last season trying to value Victor Wanyama.  If he goes, it’s important we achieve as high a price as possible, not for the money itself, but Victor’s value will be reflected in the value of the rest of the squad – and it’s important we move our player trading up the food chain.

SPL football doesn’t count towards a valuation but the Champions League does, and Victor’s five group games (less so the Juventus games) are the basis of whatever figures will be offered.

Delighted Celtic are hosting a charity match in September for Stiliyan Petrov’s new charity foundation. The player has undertaken a remarkable fight over the last year or so and is an example to many.

I understand your fear of your excellent initiative being shunned due to enmity towards its figurehead.

However,I am sure that anyone who agrees with your point will see the bigger picture and lend their weight to it.

It should be about principle, not personality. Most will understand that.

effectively that was the same as A Stor’s post, my worry there, is that they simply come away with something along the lines of ‘we are not party to the machinations of the licensing department and can only accept they undertake their duties with the same diligence shown in their treatment of our own applications’

and there ends the the whole shibang, dismissed, next.

finding out what questions they have asked and responses given is important, you’ll note

I have not actually accused the sfa of anything I’m simply asking the board to respond by informing us how seriously take the matter and the implications if the accusations turn out to be true., just as any worried parent would :o)

You must have a reason to suggest former Celtic players were on their payroll, or is this tongue in cheek?

    Ex-Celtic players on hun payroll?

Stick of dynamite casually lobbed in.

I wonder to whom you refer, but I will put my money on a high-profile midfielder from the late 90s who never really felt at home in Paradise.

Fantastic news that there is the charity match for Stan Petrov.

He was one of many BIG-GAME players that we could rely on from that squad of players.

One of the best goals I seen score was in September 2001 at Dens Park when we beat Dundee 4-0. His shot went in like a rocket.

That was an enjoyable night. I can clearly remember that we sang the ” Hey Baby ” song for about 20 minutes solid in the second half. Although we were better at it than DJ Otzi !!

As I have said before it will be stifled unless something happens in the meantime. Not that I dont think it is not worth trying. I will email you this afternoon.

You need to bang heads with Auldheid to highlight a few known and verified facts with regards the licensing issue that will allow them little wriggle room.

How it is worded just now will be dismissed as not commenting on speculation.

Verified information from creditable sources with regards to the financial situation of Rangers last domestic and European license and Sevco’s first and how it could be issued under these circumstances. Should allow then little wriggle room. If they come out with a soundbite platitude it will be an admission of either total negligence or collusion.

I think getting McLellands seat at a few of UEFA and the ECAs top tables is all we are after. Therefore we will not upset the rotten Apple cart as we want to join it.

I think it would be easier to determine which journalists were not either on the payroll, willing to be on the payroll or invited to be on the payroll.

I doubt very much if Spiers would be on that payroll as they dislike him greatly over there. The English based journalists who write little pieces on Scottish football probably weren’t but from the Scottish hack pack the potential is vast.

We know where Traynor ended up.

Who’s to say a lot of the others weren’t angling for the same job.

You had hinted over the past few months that your wife was seriously ill.

No words of mine can ease your family’s pain at this time.

My sincerest condolences, mate. Treasure your memories,I am sure there are many of them.

  19. Just goes to show you about the 90’s was rife with RFC corruption Hampden, media, Refs, EBT’s of the 90’s at the time.

The nine in a row Smith and Rangers one is slowly but surely get de valuved. In other words they cheated. Wind of potential Celtic signings like Petric, McCann, McLaren as well as a few others, they had the heads up to nulify the threat from TB and Fergus.

Since MON the revenge has been sweet but when we do the 10 in a row all through hard graft, good scouting, living by our means etc.. the final chapter of sweet revenge will be done.

Credit must go to everybody at Celtic from the board of Directors to DD and PL ( who let’s face it has taken a lot of criticism putting this stragedy into place which we are bearing fruits from now, took time but a domination that will not be broken has been created). Yes PL made have made mistakes that we tend not to let him forget but he has along with the rest of the main men at Celtic slowly destroyed Rangers and credibility which many Celtic fans have been craving for years way back to the 90’s where we suffered through the taunts and now devalued glory years.

All we need now is a signing that would match Rangers booting us in the nuts with the Mo Johnstone signing.

Hmmm, could Alan McGregor be about to replace Fraser Forster if he leaves Celtic. Could the newco sevco formerly known as Rangers FC, be about to feel how Celtic fans felt when Mo turned his back on us?

    Paul67,

It has always surprised me that sports writers and commentators are allowed to write or comment about organisations where they have a financial (as opposed to emotional) attachment via shareholding / PR gigs etc.

I am fairly sure that financial journalists have some code of conduct where they must declare a vested interest, and, I don’t see why the sports team should be any different.

    EDB,

Sorry to hear your news, deepest sympathy.
