Assuming Celtic hold onto their three goal lead over Cliftonville they will almost certainly face Elfsborg in the third qualifying round of the Champions League. The script is written for Elfsborg striker and current Celtic employee, Mo Bangura, to score his first goal at Celtic Park, while it is another tie for Henrik Larsson to politically wish both of his former clubs the best of luck.
Elfsborg are five points off the pace after 16 games in the Swedish league. Happy with the draw.
It’s the Columba Club, Blantyre, tonight for Paul McConville, Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and myself for what is sure to be another thoroughly enjoyable Question and Answer. Proceedings get underway at 19:30, tickets available at the door.
See you there.
At the turn of the century then St Johnstone chairman, Geoff Brown, told the world his club would rather suffer relegation than indulge in the financial craziness which was then going on in Scottish football. Relegation soon followed, creating its own financial problems for St Johnstone, while others, most notably for Saints, Dundee, paid over 100% of turnover in player wages.
What do you do when your direct competitors are acting like lunatics, when remaining competitive requires you to behave likewise? I remember feeling frustrated for Brown and St Johnstone fans. They did the right thing but suffered as a consequence.
Yesterday’s win, away to Ronsenborg, who are 16 games into their league programme and top of the table, was among the most impressive by a Scottish club in Europe in the last 25 years. This is a well-run club. In the last six years they have lost Owen Coyle, Derek McInnes and Steve Lomas, all cherry-picked by better-funded, but not better-organised English clubs, but their progress continues. Coyle was taken before he reached the Premier League, McInnes won promotion and Lomas reached Europe. Tommy Wright has now made an impact in Europe within six weeks of being appointed.
Still a lot of work to do next week, Rosenborg will arrive in Perth capable of winning the game, but the scene is set for a special night’s football.
The Celtic Charity Five-a-side tournament takes place on Saturday, 12 October (an international weekend) at Lennoxtown (where the scouts are based, this could be your big chance!!). If you can get a seven player squad together and think you can raise £40-per-head for charity, get your application in now. Ages 18 and over, winners get to take a halftime bow at a subsequent home game. To sign up email janemaguire@celticfc.co.uk.

Can Bangura play against us?I hope not as these situations tend to go against you.
Surely bang bang can’t play against us.
HT.
6.30 I meant. The oldtim won’t be happy with your non appearance yesterday..
Paul67 is correct – St Johnstone have done well last night. A well-run club, Scotland needs more of them.
From the Wee Reds website…
Cliftonville will face Elfsborg (Sweden) or FK Daugava (Latvia) in the Third Qualifying Round of the Champions League if they can become the first European visitors to secure a four-goal victory at Celtic Park on Tuesday night…
The dates for the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League are scheduled for July 30/31, and August 6/7. Further details on fixture dates, venues and kick-off times to follow.

If you get a chance while in the Murcia are get a round in at Hacienda Del Alamo, its a monster and beautiful course.
I thought you already were a pro at the bevyin!!!!

Mo will surely not feature in the tie – will he?
If he was on loan to a Scottish club he would not play.
Not sure what the UEFA ruling on this is ‘tho.
HH!!
Scott Brown 10 over just now at the Golf
What a guy
Elfs .. the wee arra people
HT good to see you are home safe and well but “tired and emotional” as Eamonn Dunphy put it after his excesses. Any idea how much the event this evening is and how long it lasts?
You missed the sweat box 6 a sides last night , that was a good shout
Can we switch name and away ties again
Isn’t t standard these days to insert a clause in a loan contract stating that the player cannot play against his parent club?
I know it is the rule now in the EPL and probably other leagues too.
Home even

Not worried if Bangura plays, as long as we apply ourselves and if we can strengthen the side before we face Elfsborg I am confident we will progress.
Keep the Faith!
Hail Hail!
I thought
O was a dud, why the sudden fear of a dud ?
Mo
Will we meet?
Celtic to Belfast, Legia to Wrexam.
Celtic to Boras (Elfsborg) in Sweden, Legia to Molde in Norway.

Not much pal but just a wee something to say thanks for last year as we had a ball in the Pheonix.

Honestly you are welcome and thank you again.
Hail Hail
Harald was not a dud.
He may have been a square peg in a round hole at Celtic [not the first, not the last] but he could play.
And he can fly all kinds of aircraft.

reiperman,
It was aimed at everyone who considers Mo a dud, me I don’t think he got a fair crack before the boo boys had him in a pub team.
However like Lennybhoy, I don’t think we should fret, but unlike Lennybhoy I trust last seasons team to continue our European adventures
