Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has managed to register his image rights on the off-shore tax-efficient territory of Guernsey. Income received there for use of his rights everywhere else will not attract the kind of tax mere mortals pay in their daily lives.
Pellegrini, 60, developed a genial personality to combat profound ugliness, an affliction which has affected him for decades, so news that his image has commercial value is a wonderful boon for the multi-millionaire. Manchester City will also benefit as any monies they pay for use of their manager’s image will not attract tax or National Insurance contributions.
Uefa president, Michele Platini, who has never had to worry about ugliness, now has a different challenge. Whether or not to abandon his well-meaning Financial Fair Play aspirations, or get ugly on those who try to usurp his best intentions.

Amongst other issues that the article raises, is the anachronistic position of International football.
It is a scene that has long outlived it’s relevance.
It used to offer a level of football higher than the domestic football of the day; when foreign players were scarce in countries’ Leagues.
Now, in most countries, the top teams are better than the National side, due to the influx of top players from other countries.
Added to that is the disruption these International games cause to club football and supporters.
At one time, the wages paid for an International game was more than a player’s club wage.
Not any more. The clubs, via their supporters, are subsidising these jaunts.
It is particularly galling in Scotland, where fans are expected to finance an historically corrupt Association, for fear of being branded unpatriotic.
Too much jingoism in the World today, as it is, for my liking.
Down with Internationals, I say.

UEFA FFP is Platini’s sop to EC government pressure for football in Europe to get its act together particularly in the area of social tax.
He should be welcoming Canalamar’s resolution with open arms. A small national association playing fast and loose with UEFA rules!

So going to have a non football related rant….
I have been going through the process of applying for a new role within the company I work for but this involves relocating to London.
I had a final stage interview early last week which seemed to go very well, I was advised by the hiring manager that it was between myself and one other candidate and that I should hear by the end of last week.
Now the recruitment side of my company is well known for being slow and the whole process can become very frustrating.
Anyway by yesterday I still had not heard anything so initiated a conversation with the hiring manager who apologised and advised there had been delays but reading between the lines it was clear that person had not caused the delays and that the delay was with recruitment.
This morning I came into work and logged into my system to see a placeholder for a meeting with the recruiting manager for this job so felt quite happy that I would at least know the outcome today. Unfortunately the meeting had to be cancelled and won’t be until tomorrow now so I am left sweating for another day waiting to find out!!
I’m a wee bit frustrated to say the least as this is a potentially very big move for me and if I am offered the role and take it I will be moving down to London myself leaving my wife and child at home until we can all relocate but that may take some time! I am now finding it ridiculously difficult to concentrate on anything else this morning!
Now normally at my company if you are unsuccessful in an application you are generally sent an email, and even getting feedback can be a challenge etc.
So in my mind I am wondering
Is the half hour call to offer the job, discuss the salary offer and relocation package
or is it a kinder than normal rejection with time set aside to give feedback or answer any of my questions?
I am not the most patient when it comes to things like this! I like to know what’s happening so I can start planning or move on!
Anyway thanks for letting me rant – I’ll let everyone get back to talking about football now!

I would be optimistic. The relocation package could be quite complicated ie hotels in the initial period, possible help with rental deposits. All sorts of things.

The thing is, it’s easy for fans of big teams to say these things. For other Scotland fans who are supporters of East Fife, Dunfermline, Rangers, etc, internationals are the only time they ever get to see ‘big time football’.
A future with 20 teams from the biggest cities in the world winning everything – no thanks. The fans of wee teams deserve their day in the sun.
Scotland v England this year was just as important in my eyes than us v barca. And in such a fractious society, the unifying aspect of the Scotland team is important.

I have a funny feeling something is in the pot as we speak, Walter with his crazy rant today, and the looks like PL new rule in the SFPL, it kind of looks like, well to me, that they are getting thems ready for the fall, this (if it comes to fruition) automatic relegation if you go into administration does not bode well with thems south west of us, because it think the jig is up, they where prob. Going to mass (scuse the pun) as many points as they could so that if and when they DO go into admin, they would stay up and get there house in order ( just like hearts have done) so if as we have seen this morning that new rules will be in motion, and as far as I can see,they have been cut off at the pass, just a thought, but a very clever move who ever is behind it, that’s IF it’s on.

I take your point, but, I’m afraid, it is not the supporters of the small clubs who are subsidising the wages of those players, who are commandeered by the Associations, even if they are happy to be selected.
We have a situation at Lennoxtown this week where we would have a problem fielding a five a side team, from whomever are left.
I know it will never change, FIFA would never allow it, but, as a person who has no time for Nationalism, in it’s many forms, I would gladly wish for it’s demise.

Sticking to football talk today
I would echo thomthethim’s thoughts on International football but its demise is far from imminent.
International football guarantees the riches of the UEFA and FIFA placemen and all of those at individual FA’s. It is a multi-million money spinner and, if it goes, as many of the elite club chairmen would like, then those jobs and the influence and money that comes from them would go too.
I see no likelihood of a Packer type revolution in football soon. The forces ranged against anyone attempting such are too powerful and the powers are too entrenched. Anyway, though I am no follower of cricket, I understand that the Packer revolution did not last and was mostly a ruse to get in on TV rights, rather than establish an alternative sporting structure.
Until such times as the football fans of clubs in Africa, North America, Asia and Oceania, join with those from Europe and South America in valuing clubs over country, we are stuck with this.
The best we can hope for is a reduction in International commitments but how to go about this is difficult to see. I hope the European G14 (now G18), of which we are not a member, will expand its links and seek alliances and membership with top clubs in S. America and worldwide to defend the interests of club football.
They will have a hard job ahead of them.

I’ve just watched the cardihuns interview, he stressed a couple of times how king had invested a lot of money into the huns.
Could anyone clarify how much, if any at all money was actually invested in deadco.
Stories were abound that he put twenty million in their coffers but took thirty million out and that it was under investigation.
