This is the world Celtic has to operate in

830

There was a fascinating and completely unfounded angle to the Daily Record’s story today about Celtic’s forthcoming AGM, “Celtic’s directors insist Rangers (sic) were dealt with fairly”.

Oh no they don’t.  This is an incredible dose of poison to inject into the Celtic family.

The matter in question is a resolution before the AGM urging Celtic to write to the SFA and Uefa regarding club licencing for season 2011/12.  As a result of this resolution Celtic’s written response to the AGM confirms that they questioned the SFA’s licensing at the time directly with the Association, a fact which had not previously been revealed.  The matter was also raised with Uefa.  Both bodies backed the SFA actions.

I knew how this played out at the time and I was keen for the matter to reach the AGM, where questions could be asked and responses given, but lines like “Celtic’s directors insist Rangers were dealt with fairly” are put out just to mess with you.

The Record addresses another point in the same article, “the Scottish champions are also acutely aware of how official action would heighten tensions between fans of the two clubs”.  If you think Charles Green was the only one on the receiving end of threats and intimidation last year, when these matters came to light, you’re wrong.

Celtic pursued the licencing question as far as they were permitted to do, this is quite different than insisting Rangers (sic) were dealt with fairly.  The SFA are not interested and Uefa are not interested.  As a result of this resolution, this issue can be properly examined in front of the supporters.

The club’s public comments, or often, the lack of public comments, put the safety of their employees and supporters, which was already acutely in focus, first.  Not so long ago office staff at Celtic had to go through training on how to open the mail following specific attacks.

Despite popular mythology, Celtic don’t control the SFA, re-orientating that organisation will take a while.  The issue of licensing in 2011 was pursued as far as the club were allowed to do so.  Get along to the AGM, look the board in the eye and ask your questions on this.  Celtic also have a responsibility – and a lot of formal security advice – to staff, each other and all of us when it comes to public comment.  This is the world Celtic has to operate in.  The sooner we are out of here the better.

    From end of last thread….

Bobby – my point, in response to Cultsbhoy, was that maybe the club are already committed to a strategy which will take us out of our current environment. IF they are, then how do they implement that behind the scenes and keep the fans onside at the same time? Hmmm!

Also, regarding them being focussed on income, don’t forget how many fans wanted them to fork out £6M for a striker with probable £4M wages this summer. Where’s that money coming from?

I don’t know what PL agenda is- he may well be using SFA as a means to a Scottish League exit for Celtic.

My point is there is no communication to Celtic fans on why he is choosing this route. In terms of governance we should be open and upfront otherwise we are pot calling kettle black IMO.

Don’t you think openness and proper governance within our own house is essential before we have the foundation to challenge behaviours and processes of SFA?

I find it deflating that the club acts as you suggest and says little or nothing all too often. Using ‘security of staff’ as the reason is giving in to the bullies IMO.

  10. Hi Paul,

Another good header & interesting update on the facts that you would be aware of.

Can I ask IF you know if the Board are taking any steps – either via legal representation OR via internal SFA process – in relation to the complete disregard being applied to the “history” aspect of RFCIA and the prevention of SEVCO using same in regard to any media output or advertising ? Are we the only club who have an issue with the way matters have been handled ? If we have explored options re the appropriate procedures re licensing via UEFA / SFA channels, one would assume or like to think that we have exercised the same diligence re other myths that SEVCO + SMM / Clyde / Shortbread keep pushing…….however they continue to perpetuate “the lie” without fear or retribution ( via legal threat ).

Can more be done or is this road now blocked off ( by Ogilvie and the other “loyal” clan members ) ?

any species in scotland recorded in 1750 is regarded to be native. admittedly the deodar cedar could be regarded as contentious as to when it was 1st recorded. so it stands that 3 of the 4 species are native and the jurys out on the other your contention that introducing foriegn species to be rsvaged by disease is not holding up very well.

Bobby – my point is the hypocrisy of some fans criticising the financial focus of the club, while screaming for big money signings at the same time. Geddit?! :-)

Cults – Just look at some of the points Pal has made in this article. I had no idea that threats had been made against Celtic staff, other than NFL. The problem for the board is how to work our ticket behind the scenes, while keeping the majority of the fanbase onside. I can’t see how they can do that!

I don’t buy this argument….the club on the one hand demands openness and transparency from SFA, media, opponents, etc yet is effectively stifling open debate at its own AGM.

I think this undermines our position.

I’d be fairly sure that RC Ogilvie is not interested in the slightest! Even if we are adopting a Slowly Slowly strategy, surely we had an open goal in front of us with the severely compromised SFA president? When he was up for re-election, we should have called for a vote of no confidence in him.

  20. Paul,

    Couple of questions.

1.You have alluded several times to the notion that Celtic would be better off playing elsewhere.I would agree. Are you saying this as wishful thinking on your part or do you have information you can share which would indicate the club are actually making moves?

2.In pursuing the UEFA licencing 2011 issue,do you know if the club had possession of the Charlotte fakes info regarding Mr.Regan running his draft press release past RFC,their advising him to bin it,Regan binning it then going for a cosy dinner with Whyte,Ogilvie and Russell?

I know, mate. And I actually agree with you on the whole.

But this was the one season, due to CL and transfer income, that a big push could have been accommodated.

Instead, our penny wise pound foolish board cocked it up.

In fact, they very nearly blew it completely!

Now,back to square one. And still not signed a recognised goal scorer since, what,JVoH?

That’s really not on. The business end if the pitch is not the place to gaff about with the “hope he’s good enough” types.

We got lucky with Hooper. But every other attempt has been a disaster. And so far, cumulatively expensively so.

  22. Sorry Paul, the question has not been addressed.

The CFCB needs to have the question put before it.

If the SFA and UEFA refuse to countenance the fact the laws of the game were ignored when the so patently were, then that’s a serious problem.

The most important question anyone can ask at the AGM is: what have you done and what do you intend to do in order to get Celtic out of Scottish football.

  25. tommytwiststommyturns supporting Wee Oscar on
