Amazonians, the Window of Opportunity

643

“It’s just a dream come true”, the words of 20-year-old Holmbert Fridjonsson, who today signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic and will join the club on 1 January.  5’ 9” manager, Neil Lennon, told Celticfc.net that the 6’3” striker is “a good size”, perhaps giving a glimpse into the innermost thoughts guiding Celtic’s recruitment policy, for those who have not noted the collection of Amazonians now in hoops.

Holmbert will push for a place with Anthony Stokes, Teemu Pukki and Amido Balde; Georgios Samaras is seldom used as a conventional striker.  He has made 45 career appearances, five fewer than Victor Wanyama when he signed for Celtic, also as a 20-year-old.

A year ago, when Victor was busy declining a new contract offer, we talked about the window of opportunity, when you have enough appearances to judge a player, but not so many that the world and their grannie knows about him.  We concluded that less than 30 appearances would be enough.  Victor made a total of 61 Celtic appearances but was his stock rose stratospherically after 30-odd games. The stats suggest we should catch them between 30 and 60 appearances.

Stunning result for Gordon Strachan’s Scotland last night.  Keep an eye on that guy, he’s got talent.

Really looking forward to another great charity night at the Columba Club, Blantyre, on Friday, starting at 8pm, where we are having a Q&A with myself, Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and Paul McConville, in aid of the Lourdes Fund.  These are always great nights, tickets are available at the door, get along and say ‘hello’.

Many thanks to the hundreds of you have now ordered the CQN Annual, and for all the encouraging feedback.  It’s a bit big for a stocking filler, unless perhaps you’re an Amazonian.

See you Friday.

    DBBIA,

Your comments on the Gender guy reminds me of a line from a Billy Connelly character in a film.

He was a bible thumping eccentric and when arguing with a couple of other characters, he said,

” as it says in St.Paul’s Letter to the Hermaphrodites. Go F yourselves!”

Apologies for the carefully disguised sweary word. Will take a yellow for the team.

    ************************ DAM JUSTICE **********************

Following on from previous posts by Hamiltontim and CRC, I’d like to remind you about the Dam Justice bucket collection before the Aberdeen game this Saturday.

We desperately need volunteers to give up a couple of hours of their time to help raise funds for the ten innocent supporters severely affected by the events in Amsterdam. The money raised in the bucket collection will be paid into the FAC legal defence fund to help support the fans and their families.

I can’t state strongly enough how much your fellow Celtic fans need your help at this time.

Two of the fans have been instructed to return to Amsterdam in January, two are still being held in custody and the other six will be travelling back today to face court appearances tomorrow.

There is a distinct possibility that the Prosecution will ask that all eight Celtic fans be held on remand until January. Obviously, this would be a disaster for all concerned, with huge knock-on into their personal lives.

CQN has an outstanding record in helping worthwhile causes and from first hand experience, I’ve seen this in action at previous bucket collections and fundraisers. BRTH’s excellent article in the current CQN Magazine helps to dispel the old media myth that our fans were to blame for what happened and also serves to highlight the sense of injustice.

Bearing in mind the demographic of this blog, it’s important to point out that one of the fans arrested is a 49 year-old who went over to Amsterdam for the game with his wife. She was left petrified when he was “scooped up” by the Dutch police in the square.

There’s also the case of the 46 year-old who had his leg broken by a police van.

Either of these lads could have been CQNers! The young bhoys who have been beaten and charged could have been your sons or relations.

I know it’s short notice, but all we’re asking for is about 2 hours of your time to man the buckets at the Celtic Park turnstiles this Saturday. For once, skip the pre-match pint or visit to the lounges and help some Celtic families who are going through a terrible ordeal.

Please e-mail Dambhoys8@yahoo.co.uk and register your details. We’ll then get back to you with the relevant information.

If you can’t help with the buckets, then please donate to the legal defence fund, see below:

    1. Pay money into the FAC account via your bank or by electronic transfer:

Account Name: FAC Legal Defence Fund

    Sort Code: 83-21-27

    Account Number: 11119109

    2. Pay by Paypal using the Donate button on the site of the Celtic Trust, The CSA or the Green Brigade, however if you use this method please make sure you make it clear that the money is a donation and it is for the Amsterdam Fund. This money will be transferred to the FAC account.

    Many thanks for your time.

From around that time also, about 500,000,000 of them started roosting at Ibrox …

    From last post re Catcher

Must have read it at least half a dozen times and along with Portnoy’s Complaint , 1984 and Great Expectations it is something of a personal ‘comfort’ read- always get something new from it. John Motson’s favourite novel – which is a useless fact and not much of a recommendation .

Oh and welcome Holmbert. The last £100 k striker we signed scored a winner v Barca

You remind me by mentioning Yorkshire that there is a butcher in York ( Favourite Uncle might know which one ) who does the most succulent tomato sausages.

Memories are made of such delights.

    ………………………………………

I have visited York for many years and the most memorable thing about butchers in that quaint city is the Pork Pies with gelatine that defies description and crust that crumbles at the bite a fresh pork pie from York with a large pickled shallot and some HP sauce is surely the food of the Gods.

But it must be freshly baked and has a best before of only about 2-3 days after baking or we are talking soggy crust.

sadly the butchers shop is now closed.

So our players are all a bunch of big women! Amazonians indeed (admittedly there are times i think some of them are big Jesssies)

Also if the new Messi / Maradonna (insert any world class footballing short arse – I.E 90% of the Barca team) we probably wouldn’t sign them. Ok so it seems as if i have our future tactics sussesd – we are becoming the Glasgow Celtics Basket ball team
