The Celtic Supporters Association are in their seventh decade so have seen it all before, albeit the matters the felt necessary to comment on today are uncommon in modern times. After their AGM yesterday they issued the following statement:
“We do not condone in any circumstances the letting off of smoke devices of any kind, the dangers to the health of our supporters should at all times be paramount in everybody’s thoughts. We have quite a number of members who are of the senior variety, and the dangers to anyone with respiratory problems are greatly increased by coming into contact with smoke.
We also do not condone the use of pyrotechnics of any kind; again the dangers to our own supporter’s health should be paramount at all times.
Finally, the deliberate damaging of property within any stadium is not acceptable, and leaves a stain on the great reputation of the Celtic Support. The seats that were broken at Fir Park was blatant vandalism; nothing else.”
I share Association president Joe O’Rourke’s hope that this is a watershed moment for the support, but most of us know at least one person who thrives on chaos and notoriety. We need as many strong voices to step forward as possible, someone with experience of putting genies back in bottles would be handy too.

Celtic pay for Killie seat damage

The damage was caused when Celtic clinched the title
Celtic are to pay Kilmarnock £20,000 for damage caused to seats during the Rugby Park fixture when Gordon Strachan’s side clinched the SPL title.
About 1,500 seats were broken in the Chadwick and Moffat stands as Celtic fans celebrated their side winning the Championship on 9 April.
Celtic also paid for damage caused by some fans at Rugby Park in 2004.
The SPL then introduced rules to ensure clubs responsible for damage at away grounds paid for the repairs.
The contractors aim to have Rugby Park fully repaired for their final SPL home match of the season against Hearts.

FOLLOWING events on Friday evening at Fir Park Stadium, Celtic Football Club today announced that it has issued precautionary suspensions against 128 individuals preventing them attending matches involving Celtic, pending further investigation. These suspensions will cover matches at Celtic Park and away matches.
In addition, the Club will be relocating around 250 season book holders in Section 111 to other areas within the stadium, or offering refunds covering the remainder of the season to those who do not wish to be relocated.
Events such as those on Friday night do not represent the Celtic support or the Club. These events were an embarrassment to our great football club and are absolutely indefensible.
It is clear that there is an element which has no hesitation in bringing Celtic’s name into disrepute. This is something the Club will not tolerate and we therefore have no other option but to take this action. We will not allow the great name of Celtic to be damaged in this way any more – our supporters deserve more than this.
While recent events are very regrettable, we would like to thank our many thousands of fans for the wonderful, positive backing which they continue to give to Celtic. We are sure these supporters will understand the position which the Club is in and we are also sure they will unite with the Club as we move forward.
Celtic Football Club is in excellent shape on and off the field. The Club is in a very safe and strong position and we have a young, exciting team working hard to deliver quality football and success for our supporters, as they did on Friday evening with a magnificent performance. This is what we want to be talking about and this is what we want to celebrate.
Celtic has a proud 125-year history and fundamental to that history have been our fans. Our supporters enjoy a wonderful reputation earned across many years, many families and many generations. This is something we must protect vigorously.

The low key BBC story that I posted suggests a big difference between now and then.
Then in the BBC match report for that 1-4 game there was not one word about broken seats.
Now the damage done is being given about the same coverage as the explosions at the Fukushima nuclear plant.
Not just on the BBC but in all the press and media and it has the appearance of an orchestrated attack by black PR.
Now who would do such a thing?
Is there a discourse to be diverted here?
If I have to choose between Celtic Park being closed or 111 being closed, it’s no contest.

There yi go, well said, get them out, no gangs at Celtic Park, because that’s all they where, a gang of trouble makers and rioters, weed them all out and let the real supporters carry our good name onwards and upwards, and if any one sais awe that’s it I won’t be back, good don’t come back that’s entirely your decision, as for me, it has been coming and they crossed the line on Friday, bringing shame and embarrassment to all supporters and our team, we move on now. My opinion.

Well,the club has made their position plain.
A clear message sent.
Behave or GTF.
I have no problem with that,they have been poring over CCTV since Friday. And those who are guilty of wilful damage deserve to be punished.
Seems to me,though,that they have applied the ban to a lot of people who did not break seats. It surely doesn’t take a deputation to damage seats,but there are more banning orders than seats damaged,from what I saw.
Still,it sends a message. I cannot disagree with that. The club’s image is paramount.
Will the names and addresses of the 128 suspended persons be handed to the police?
