Jack-of-all-trades

1699

I was initially surprised to hear we’re tracking a Jack-of-all-trades defensive midfielder-cum-central defender.  Neil Lennon’s clear preference in central defence is Efe Ambrose and Virgil van Dijk, both of whom have been in excellent form this season, but he has backup in the form of Charlie Mulgrew, or even Mikael Lustig, who has played there before.

Defensive midfield, along with striker, is one of the key positions Celtic should be looking to strengthen; so a dedicated specialist would seem the better option, but our last outstanding specialist in that area arrived with exactly the same CV.  I remember the disputes here when Neil Lennon talked about Victor Wanyama being able to play centre half.  He could, but he didn’t.

It’s more important that we do our recon well than utilise everything in a player’s locker.  Buying from England is usually expensive, but at least if affords you the opportunity to solicit plenty of reliable opinion on a player.

When he referred to Carnoustie being his second favourite bit of grass, the assumption on here would be that paradise is his first…. Not true…

He was actually referring to a purchase made in Amsterdam recently :-)

Who did you hear it from? :))))

Nothing wrong with cover for Virgil & Efe as I was thinking what if one of them got injured,as long as said cover comes in the same Taxi as a goalscorer who is scoring with his present club.

    No. He didn’t.

John Barnes was asked in a documentary about racism in football if he thought he was sacked on grounds of race.

He made it clear race was not an issue at Celtic and that the result against Inverness cost him his job.

  17. THE KANO FOUNDATION ANNUAL DINNER DANCE 2014

Folks , now that CQTEN has virtually sold out. , I’d I’ve to remind you of our annual dance , taking place on 29th March 2014 at Radisson Blu in Glasgow .

Tickets are £35 each , for which you get a champagne reception, 3 course meal , dance. , after dinner speech from a certain Tosh McKinlay , the pleasure of over 300 (and counting) other TIMS company and a smattering of celtic players (past and present).

We’ve also negotiated a competitive rate with the Radisson for B&B .

So, if you feel that 1 night out in good company in March isn’t enough , why to have 2 ?

PFAyr is hosting a table and we still have some other capacity so , if you’re interested. , drop me a line to sannabhoy@thekanofoundation.com

    Hail Hail

    “Thanks, my memory aint good.”

    No problem.

The guy conducting the interview was clearly trying to create a story to suit his own agenda, by asking the question.

Fair play to John Barnes for putting him in his place.

I think Barnes still feels he was given a raw deal at Celtic, but he has never attempted to play the ‘race card’. I have total respect for the guy. He was a terrific player.

Nothing about that horrible wee man surprises me.

He’s in it for what he can get.

Let’s face it, if the huns sack him he’ll never get work at any decent level of football.

Oh, and his tv face is old and wrinkly.

Looks like SSB would be his only option.

  22. From Boab

Aye Craig Whyte has caused huns pain and i’m grateful to him for it. He’s no hero to me. Still don’t trust him. Long term plan?

Minty knew all about him. Craigs admins got job. Craigs friends took over. This is Craigs career business strategy. Lots of counter suing.

Soon enough this new club will be in top flight, free of tax debts and unsanctioned for cheating. Mintys gang clean. Spivs rich in sunshine.

Sorry i can’t respond to any counter points raised on my opinion of the craigy situation. Always remember, he was picked for a reason.

Maybe it is all mintys long term plan to escape blame & punishment. Maybe i’m wrong and it is just spivs fu***** each other. We’ll see.

  23. What Celtic need are players that can come in and command a place in the first XI and improve the obvious deficiencies. I consider midfield one of the places where we are quite well off for players and if anything I’d like to see Nir Biton getting more game time.

  24. Phil MacGiollaBhain ‏@PmacgiollabhainWhat is it that that Craig Whyte is so bullish about? What does he know that will “rock Scottish football in two weeks”?

Thanks to those who have replied to my post above and put me right on this matter concerning Mark Walters’ first appearance at Celtic Park.

    Aff oot.

  26. Philbhoy - Free the Dam 5! on

SRS He was a bit special on the park, no doubt, but not so hot off it.

A lot of great players don’t seem able to manage.

I remember (as a youngster!) being horrified that Sir Bobby Charlton failed miserably as a manager.

Outside of the Lisbon Lions he was my favourite player.

    Still, he’s done alright.
