I read some discourse heading in the direction of Joe Ledley last night, which I can’t quite figure. Joe had initially seemed keen to sign the contract which had been in his hands for several months. Celtic wanted to get the deal done but it became clear this week that it wasn’t going to happen, and that Joe would leave under freedom of contract in the summer, if not this week.
This is the player’s absolute right. He committed fully to the cause until full time on Wednesday, and when Celtic decided to accept a bid reportedly close to £1m, rather than let him run down his contract – most probably from the stand, he agreed to join Crystal Palace, who were almost certainly not top of his desired destinations. Although he clearly pushed Palace all the way on the contract.
Joe could have just as easily free-wheeled for four months while continuing to collect his wages and shopping around for a new club, which would have suited him far more than Celtic.
Best wishes to Joe, I’m sure he’ll keep Palace up this season.
A formal welcome to Celtic to Leigh Griffiths. His interview on Celtic TV last night betrayed an irresistible focus. ‘What will you bring to Celtic?’ ‘Goals’. That’s what it’s all about Leigh, score goals, lots of them. Then score some more.
I was pleased Stefan Johansen got some game-time on Wednesday after 45 minutes for the youths on Tuesday; really hope we see him tomorrow. Did you notice his movement on Wednesday? Every time he passed the ball he sprinted into space. Hope he gets a start tomorrow but most of all, let’s break a record.

Sandman-correct re Samaras,i hope he stays. Can’t believe we are letting him go to the World Cup as a free agent? Give him a 3 year deal,if a bid comes in and he wants to go,we will get a fee.The guy owes us nothing having dropped over a million from his Man City contract to sign for us.

Bada, Sammi holds all the cards. He may very well be deciding not to sign and to put himself in the shop window at the World Cup. Not a lot we can do about it if he does.
Hail! Hail!

Good luck with your future career, Joe. You won’t reach the heights of CL nights at Paradise, but enjoy the EPL.
Our best central midfield pairing in recent years was Vic and Joe. We always looked balanced and in control with those two in there.
P67 on Johansen – “Every time he passed the ball he sprinted into space.”
It’ll never catch on…! :-)

I’m very glad to hear that Stefan Johansen has good movement. We play best when the ball is on the deck and passed at speed, although too many moves currently break down when the player with the ball is not given options. If Stefan is a pass and go style player he will fit in nicely.

Good afternoon CQN.
Glad it is over, looking forward to the game tomorrow.
estorilbhoy-thanks for reply, still think it’s bad business not having Samaras under contract, with a World Cup in the summer.
Badabing…
Sami is our best player in Europe, by a mile.
Hope he stays too.
50/50 I reckon.
If he gets a move to another CL club it won’t be in England….we know that.
Back home to Greece maybe?
ryecatcher – thanks for the steer…
How come every time you say you don’t feel well you’re wife chips in with
“Man Flu?”
Good luck and thanks to Joe.
Welcome and a starting place for Leigh.
Sammi, sign up for now, go to World Cup, decide on your next move in August. Everyone wins.

“What transfer deadline?”
Go on the Mackems.

Sunderland player booked for going off the pitch and over celebrating for scoring. Did it in front of the Newcastle fans but Sunderland fans are in the top tier.
First time I’ve ever seen that not involving a Celtic player

You mentioned Carruth’s Grotto.
I was in Blackpool shortly after the Manchester riot in 08. Anyway there’s a similar shop up near Blackpool North Station, and it came as no surprise to hear that the huns bricked its windows during their PRE match festivities.

Hope you’re well. I believe Celtic fear Sammi has something lined up when he’s on a Bosman in the summer, so I wouldn’t bank on him staying.
Joe’s last game for us must have been his best, albeit against poor opposition. He passed the ball forwards and made forward runs, one of which led to his goal.
He was a good SPL player, but like a few others lacked pace against top European opponents. I’ll always remember his headed goal in the 1-0 win against Rangers (RIP).
I think Paul is right and Stefan looks a bit more mobile.
Looks like it’s not just Celtic players that get booked after scoring
Sunderland player scored a penalty, then stood on top of the advertising bored to salute his fans who are away up the very top of that massive stand behind the goal at Newcastle, and he gets booked
He didn’t jump over the board, or gesture the Newcastle fans who are in the lower bits of that stand
These refs are muppets
Easy the Mackems…..this could be a rout today.
Love the way Gus Poyet’s teams play the game…..easy on the eye.
Great manager in the making…..lovely football from his teams.
Oh, Pardew and Ashley and Toon Army…..GIRUY….every last one of you.
Andy Carroll’s first assist since getting rid of his ridiculous beard.
Stefan Stefan…Stefan Stefan!
Agree joe gave 100% and wish him the best of luck at palace.
LG will be top scorer at the club every season and will do it where it matters -Europe the guy is a born goal scorer and as far as I know the goals are the same size at home and abroad.
Can see the bhoy Stefan Johansen being in the same mold as Paul McStay a guy who plays will his head up.
We’re a good team who on there day can be great what not to like HH

I woke up this morning and thought I’m Celtic Daft….
Glad to hear big Georgios is staying, has he signed a new contract?
Agreed the Greek was a marked man in the CL after is performances and scoring in the CL last season. Marked by three opponents every occasion he had the ball and with no Wanyama or Brown to help out he carried a big workload.. he is a class player and is off to Brazil to play in his umpteenth International tournament which is not surprising.
Looking forward to seeing Leigh G giving Kris Commons a dig out in the goal-scoring dept

Paul, don’t worry our coaching system will soon knock that out of him. Give him a month or two and he’ll be passing the ball and then stand watching like the rest of his team mates. :)
We can’t force big sammi to sign a new contract can’t understand why some people can’t get that through there heads
