Free weekends just not right

602

There’s something not right about a free weekend in early March; we should still have been in the Cup.  Congratulations are therefore due to the five managers who remain in the competition, who have each shown remarkable abilities and are truly invaluable resources to their respective clubs – worth contract extensions all round.

Congratulations are also due to the 40,000 Aberdeen fans who will pack Celtic Park next weekend for the League Cup Final.  Opponents, Inverness, have shifted only 7,000 of their 20,000 allocation, although I hear there is a brisk trade in tickets this morning, many of which will end up in the hands of Aberdeen supporters.

40,000 Aberdeen fans at a game may be unprecedented, despite the 147,365 attendance at their 1937 Scottish Cup Final against Celtic.  No one was to know demand would be so buoyant from Aberdeen, but now the SPFL do know, they need to ensure the spare circa 13,000 tickets are sold to Aberdeen fans in a controlled manner.

Many thanks to everyone who donated to Mary’s Meals since the MyDonate link went up on Friday.  We are more than halfway there to funding the second school kitchen, at St Joseph’s Primary School in Kasungu, Malawi.  Stunned at the response.  You can get involved here.

Seville, The Celtic Movement, launches this month.

“It might not happen anytime soon but sometime down the line I’d like to think we could get there again. Maybe even go that extra mile and win the Cup. Henrik Larsson was our hero in this outstanding run and we’d probably need to look at finding another Henrik to get us there again! Remember that Celtic recently finished ahead of Benfica in Champions League Group stages and they dropped into the Europa Cup, reached the final and were very unlucky not to win it.”

Quite agree. For safety reasons alone, it would seem obvious that Aberdeen are given more tickets “in a controlled manner.”. It makes so much sense that it is unlikely the SFA will do it 0:-)

I know we are covering old ground re our cup exit, but i used to always get a special buzz on Cup Final day. Was a great way to round off our season. Especially on a sunny day. Being at Celtic Park may have made it even more special.

However what is done is done.

Just hope its Dundee Utd* V whomever Final!

Thanks but where did that come from? I`ve heard the same but it seems strange that nothing official has been released. A tear is quickly diagnosed.

To paraphrase K. Keegan, I would love it, if ICT win.

SPFL refuse Aberdeen’s request for more League Cup Final tickets. Aberdeen: 40,000 allocated. ICT: 7000. Celtic Park capacity: 60,000+.

Imagine we’ll hear soon, as it happened on International duty, the delay might be in Celtic’s doctor giving his prognosis.

  12. Id imagine that big Yogi and his ICT team are just happy that the Final is away from the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium next week, given they have only won 2 of their last 8 and indeed none of their last 4 there!

Away from home however they have won 4 of their last 8.

Aberdeen (just for comparison purposes) have won 3 of their last 4 (5 from 8) at Pittodrie.

    2 from 4 and 5 from 8 away.

Theoretically, that should make it a close game on the pitch, if not in the Stands!

I hope it is a good game for both teams concerned with a few goals into the bargain.

Unfortunately because of my job I’ve had to watch Sevco in the last two Scottish Cup matches.

They are so laboured and predictable with big blooters into the penalty area. Watching Sevco is like watching Sumo football.

They will need more than a an honest mistake or two when they play any Scottish Premiership teams. Dundee United will embarrass them.

On your other point. I’ve only seen Sevco three times (three too many) since they were formed in 2012. I don’t recall any contentious decisions in any of those games apart from yesterday.

Geordie Munro I agree we should have enough cover to keep the bestes and the greatestes goal scorer in the whole wide world quiet, I am of course talking about the legendary Boydychencko as the SMSM would have us believe.

However what I am more concerned about is that his agent is coming out with him moving to 1 of the English bigger teams. Some English press have him going to man utd or city some to arsenal and he has added to the speculation by having dinner with David Luiz of Chelsea and was allegedly at there game over the weekend. Now I know it is all speculation and we would get in excess of £10 million, but if he goes and big FF goes that is a big hole in our team that will be trying to qualify for CL.

I think that is something to worry about. I actually believe that could be worse than losing big Vic and hoops IMO.

What match you’ve officiated at lives long in the memory?

I will never forget a Sectional League Cup match in the juniors between Cambuslang and Rutherglen. It was the 25th of August 2008 – a Monday night. Hugh Dallas had been appointed as a mentor to me in my second season as a Category 2 referee. I just don’t know what happened that night. I had an absolute nightmare, handing out 13 yellow cards and 2 reds. I remember going to speak to him after the game and his opening words are not fit for the website. It was a real wake-up call for me and totally transformed my career – I will never forget how bad I felt after that game and work really hard to make sure it doesn’t happen again!

It just sickens me, that these halfwits get away with the cheating unchallenged.

I believe, it will take something extraordinary to overturn a century of black corruption.

The answer, is somewhere in the vaults.

It would take a proper piece of journalistic investigation, which as you are aware, is sadly lacking in this country.

I love in hope, and will keep digging.

“I’m glad I watched it, to get rid of any lingering doubt.”

I wouldn’t encourage people to watch them, even with the sound turned down, but there is something oddly comforting about seeing them play. They will not challenge Celtic for many a year.

I just assume anyone on here that thinks they are going to win the Scottish Cup has not watched Sevco. Their players are at least two yards off the pace of the Scottish Premiership teams.

I watched the Raith Rovers game on Saturday, and on the evidence of that match Sevco will struggle to get out of the Championship as well.

  19. The situation that Celtic have found themselves in since the demise of them has had one consequence that we may not have given enough consideration to.

I was discussing the Morton game with a friend last week and he said – ‘You know it was never a penalty’

I never thought too much about that but after yesterday it made me think about the other defeats we have suffered in cups in recent times – the stonewall penalty denied against St Mirren at the end or the extremely dodgy penalty given to Hearts. These two plus the Morton decision made sure we exited three cups.

Celtic had a better record that them in the Scottish Cup, perhaps because the main focus of the cheating was in the league. Now it is all about taking their chance to get Celtic out the cups.

And also to assist them in every way – yesterday was the most blatant cheating since the McCurry game or the goal kick to a penalty at Tynecastle.

The club that cheated death will have all the help possible in cups from now on. Celtic need to hammer teams in the cups next season and give the men in black no opportunities to shaft us.

A Treble is required next season Celtic – nothing less.

Honestly just seen the Jersey Clown as mentioned earlier, show himself up to a very large multi- national group of holiday makers

Monkeys and baboons wander around this resort, and you are warned not to feed or touch.

Anyway, they wander around stealing food from plates if not watching, or into your bags.

As usual the Sevco clown is at the bar, and a large Baboon strolls across, into his bag, and takes some food from it, he runs across to chase, informing he it will not steal from him.

So he approaches this happy Baboon eating the Sevconians crisps, thinking he is hard.

Up it gets, launches a roar, as he scurries back to his bed :-)

You had to witness this, hilarious, and everyone stating what a Clown.

  23. Just watching that Sevco equalizer again. (Shakes head) It got me thinking of the goal David Robertson had disallowed in a 3-3 draw at Stalag hun back in the nineties. Every radio station had Hun fans complaining about how the goal could be disallowed, he was never offside etc. For years afterwards Huns like BFDJ and his ilk would say if Rangers got a dodgy decision “these things even themselves up over the course of a season, look at the goal David Robertson had disallowed” I’m sure I heard that quote a million times. I can’t do the linky thing but if any of you techy guys can, put the game up and show the goal Celtic had disallowed in the same game. It’s at exactly 8.06. Van Hooijdonk scores a perfectly good goal in that game but I would say no one can ever remember any pundit commenting on it the same way they did about Robertson. I don’t even think they show a replay of it.

  24. I’m looking forward to Cup Final this Saturday and will attend with m brother and 2 sons..AFC desreve to get silver this eason so hopefully they can do so and use the surge in interest to position themselves as Scotland’s second most powerful team for many seasons to come. Indeed, if RIFC 2012 can over come Albion Rovers and then DUFC (unlikely imo)the AFC can put the new pretenders to the sword to reinforce their own new position as Scotland’s number 2 club.
