Celtic won the league four times in the 1890s and then completed six-in-a-row between 1905 and 1910. The league continued during the First World War and we won five out of six titles between 1914 and 1919.
By then, Queens Park had well and truly been supplanted as Scotland’s top team, but there was a great decline in the air. The 20s brought only two titles, as did the 30s. The Second World War stopped competitive football for six years, but Celtic’s only league title between 1938 and Jock Stein’s first in 1966, was in 1954. Three generations of Celtic fans survived on precious few moments of celebration.
Stein changed everything.
Nine-in-a-row! How this happened is beyond our wisdom to explain but, with the notable exception of the 1990s, which brought a solitary, if beautiful, title, Celtic will this week solidify their position as dominant force for the past half century by winning their 25th title in 48 years.
If it happens tomorrow, the best part of two months before the end of the season, drink it in. Appreciate it on behalf of the thousands who sustained the Movement during those hard decades.
Seville – The Celtic Movement, is out now:
“After asking us what the green and white uniforms were about and us carefully explaining where we were going and its significance, the girl turned to her partner and suggested that they would maybe take this event in. We left them in blissful ignorance but wondered afterwards what they made of Seville and how it fitted in with their vision of Spain.”

As much as I want to see them die again much more concerned with us celebrating another title. GLASGOW CELTIC CHAMPIONS ………..
I would love us to have a party tonight but since i’m up ythe road on Saturday I wouldn’t be too diasppointed with a draw the night.
Afternoon Timland from a windy hun free mountain valley.
This is for real………….seriously for real.
From the union of fanni*s.
“The Union of Fans (UoF) is delighted that Dave King has publicly stated his impressive plans for Rangers via a number of newspaper interviews. His vision for the club is extremely welcome as is the personal financial commitment he is willing to make. Like all Rangers fans, Dave King and UoF want to see the club back operating to high standards on and off the pitch and in the boardroom. We firmly believe that the involvement of Dave King is the best chance of those standards being attained in the short, medium and long term.
It was clear from our discussions with him last week that the £30m+ Mr King is willing to invest is crucial to take the club back to a competitive level and improve the infrastructure and facilities. The club has been neglected, that cannot continue. Only once this investment has been made will Rangers be able to live within its means, something we all want for the longer term future. Until then Dave King has made it clear he will do what is necessary to get Rangers back to where we belong and where we can be self-sustainable.
It is also important that Dave King chose to make his views public to the widest possible range of Rangers supporters by conducting interviews with four different newspapers with a combined readership of over 2M people. There can no longer be any criticism of him only speaking privately to supporters groups, though he has pledged to continue that important dialogue in order that the Union of Fans can keep people updated on events.
We would now ask the board to indicate publicly, as a matter of urgency, whether they are prepared to accept Dave King’s offer of massive investment. The ball is firmly with the Rangers PLC board, in particular with Chief Executive Officer, Graham Wallace and Chairman, David Somers. Dave King has put a figure on what Rangers need and has shown his commitment to, and ambition for, the club he has supported all his life. Do Mr Wallace and Mr Somers agree with his figures and if they do, how do they propose to raise this large sum of money without Dave King?
These are extremely serious corporate matters, therefore they are matters for the PLC board and not for any small, minority shareholder who is not a member of that board and who has no such high level corporate experience. The corporate reputations of Mr Wallace and Mr Somers now rest on their next move.
We also note with dismay that Rangers director Sandy Easdale is continuing to pursue what we consider to be a confrontational and frivolous course of legal action against Sons of Struth. We would ask him to remember what it means to be a Rangers director and act accordingly if he wishes to enjoy the privileges of that position.”
This bit is why they are in the state they are in, it’s beyond belief……
” Only once this investment has been made will Rangers be able to live within its means”

Bom dia.
Thoughts are with wee Oscar and his family. A trying time for all involved. Just you show us, wee man. Just you show us.
Meanwhile, back in the trivial world of fitba ……. Dr Jo (the girl who does our CSC video’s) has encountered copyright problems with using certain songs to put her foto/film clips too. So without wanting to start a songs debate, much appreciated if you’d help us come up with a decent songlist of “non controversial” Celtic tunes to put to her videos.
PS. Anybody who’s not seen Dr Jo’s efforts, thus far, check them out on our CSC Facebook page – Rio Fergus McCann CSC – The Bhoys from Brasil.

Folks , as you know , our annual dance takes place on Saturday in Radisson Blu in town.
This is not a last minute ticket drive as we are virtually sold out . What this is , is the chance to win 2 tickets to the evening , for free. We’ve got so much from CQN over the years that i’m offering a wee something back (oh , and someone from my table cancelled and i’m not gonna try and flog the tickets at this late notice).

Can someone please try to put this near the top of each page throughout the day ? Thanks
Sanna
Cheers Paul67
I remember celebrating entry in Europe up at McDiarmid Park circa 20 years ago, I’m gonna enjoy this celebration 10x more.
25(soon) titles in 48 years?
Could, and should, have been 35 were it not for the ‘tainted titles’ of the 1990s and the 2000s.

Have been reading the Seville book again. It is one thing working on it on a computer screen but something else entirely reading the completed book – it really is a joy. BRTH has a story in there that is one of the funniest thing I’ve ever read. It’s a great Celtic book and we hope it will be read on summer holidays etc as the year progresses.
Anyway, something occurred to me last night when reading the second half of the book – which is about memories of Seville ten years on and came from posters on here over a few remarkable days in May 2013. Quite a number of the supporters we have quoted in the book haven’t been posting on CQN for a while. Most will no doubt still lurk. So with that in mind I thought I’d post a list of the CQNers who we have featured in the new Seville book, as many of the lurkers may not know that they have their stories in SEVILLE – The Celtic Movement. Apologies for the list!

Garngad to Croy
I remember that day myself. Huge elation leaving the stadium.
To think about it now it was crazy. I think we got into Europe because Dundee United lost. I could be wrong.
Title wins should always be celebrated like it may be the last one you see. That’s the way I view them anyway. I will enjoy a beer in front of the box tonight. Fancy the Hoops to romp home 5-0 and win it in style. Hat-trick for Mr Griffiths.
LB
The huns didny die – they dodged a £140 million bullet by, slipping under the radar for 3 years then they’ll be back in the same league as Celtic with a bushy-tailed manager in their dug-out as super salary will be away enjoying the fruitful rewards of his three year mission – getting the huns into the top league again.
There will will still be those who refuse to be told, sitting waiting for BDO to pull the trigger.
Yeah, just like LNS was going to strip 9iar off them. Aye, right.
NFL saying that the huns won’t need to spend £50 mill to catch Celtic, why should they when Derek McInnes has demonstrated, twice in succession that to stop Celtic…mark KC out the game and the Celts are done.
Who do you think you are kidding Mr Lennon, if you think the huns are done ?

GCT – I tried to post from the train this morning but I think the fact I had a tear in my eye caused my phone to malfunction! The love and admiration you have for your brother shone through in every word! God Bless
BRTH – I’m using the computer so hopefully no malfunctions I’m sure I must have grit in my eye!
After the news of wee Oscar last night and the next huge battle he faces, really makes you appreciate every waking minute with your kids. Keep fighting wee ghuy we are all behind you.
Happy Birthday Simone Celtic waited to share their party with you!
Is it just me or has everything on this thread got an unusual slant?
I always said this board had too much politics… there seems to be a definite leaning to the right.
Paul67,
Just penned a wee contribution to your article but it has got lost in cyberspace.
I just wanted to concur with your sentiments. As someone who grew up watching our tam winning nothing and being regaled with tales of our winning the “one off” cups, like the Coronatoin one, every league title for me is to be savoured and never to be taken for granted. (Honest mistakes notwithstanding.)
No Borders – One World State – can we just get it over with and call it America now!
