Dundee United and Celtic will both have their minds on longer term outcomes than tomorrow’s Premiership game at Tannadice. For Neil Lennon, it will surely be another opportunity to expose some of his development players to the rigors of first team action. For Jackie McNamara this is a test before arguably their biggest game of the season, next week’s Scottish Cup semi-final.
United are six points off the pace in the neck-and-neck battle between Aberdeen and Motherwell in re Best of the Rest race but face both these teams at home before the end of the season. United’s potentially bigger challenge are the home and away games against the champions. Only the top three are guaranteed European football, so the potential of European revenue, added to the prize more differential (circa £100k per place) will sharpen minds.
For Celtic, the challenge will be to find the edge their opponents will have for tomorrow. I’d look to Liam Henderson, and maybe a couple of his former development squad team mates for this.
We’re well accustomed the nationalist and xenophobic excesses of the UK media but Germany appears shocked at the two biggest selling UK dailies use of the word “schwein” to describe Bastian Schweinsteiger. Anyone who grew up during the decades when war movies dominated our TVs will know the racial context loaded onto this particular term, as it was used in Germany in the 30s and 40s.
Bayern’s ban on the Mirror and Sun is an appropriate rebuff, safe in the knowledge that no Bayern fans will continue to consume news about their club from either newspaper.

yorkbhoy-FWIW i don’t think Sevco will come up next year if The Snowman is still in charge, even the cheating MIB’s can’t work with what they have.
Certainly hope so..
I really hope Neil gives some of the kids a chance. I also hope they’re not too enthusiastic going into the tackle! :-)
We should play with careless abandon now the league is won. Put on a show.
Tick Tock.
Maybe ‘carefree’ abandon, or even gay abandon would have sounded better :-)
Bawsman
Does that mean the team should give less than 110%?
LB
90% of x plus 20% of x equals ? percentage of x.
No calculators.
Hopefully some young players get a run out tomorrow .
with utd having more important games to come they may
ease up a bit and they usually try and play an open
attacking game.

Afternoon all.
Aye awright!
I’m still on the last thread.
Football clichés/quotes?
“We always knew it would be a difficult game.”

LiviBhoy, certainly not, it means allowing their full talents to be shown. I don’t know if you’ve ever been coached at football mate but back in my day they used to stop you ‘running out of position’ and suchlike, i.e. curbing your natural instincts to just play football with the talent gifted to you (or not, in my case).
Let them showcase.

Absolutely! Anything less would be unprofessional. And unromantic. :-)

Difficult-indeed,churlish-to disagree with much of your excellent post earlier.
First-class assessment though based mainly on what you have seen, which is fair but necessarily subjective.
But I never had you down as a board-lover. You’ve had me fooled all this time,ya fifth-columnist bassa.
So which Kelly is it you miss most? Sir Robert? Kevin? Michael?
My Dad once missed the latter wi a putter-he always misses wi a putter!-but that’s a different story….

I was trying to carry the banter on from the last post.
I agree completely though. Would like to see some flair out there at Tannadice. I think Celtic should be going to score goals. If it ends up 4-3 or 4-4 or even 6-3 I will be delighted. It will be interesting to see how young Henderson measures up against Gauld. I have been keen on young Gauld and think he would be a superb signing. The boy has amazing talent but maybe our own lad Henderson is as good or maybe even better. I would like to see them go up against each other and see what the future holds for these lads. It would be very interesting to watch. I think we have a real gem with Henderson.
On another note I would like to see Fisher start again and maybe a young forward to get a run out for the last half hour. Rather than buying squad players like Pukki, Balde and Boerritger let’s see what we have in the squad already. The talent may already be right under our noses.
Very much looking forward to an open and exciting game of football from two attack minded teams. Has the makings of a cracker.

110 % correct.

Fisher is unlikely to feature
He was unfit for the clash against Sevco U20s earlier this week.
I can’t see Neil throwing him in when he wasn’t fit enough to play a game that took us to the top of the table and 2 points ahead of the cloven hooked cloggers

Happy Friday everyone.
AlbertKiddCSC is in Bristol this weekend and was wondering if anyone knew of any bars are about that will show tomorrow’s game?
Any help much appreciated.

Re Damien Duff
Any move for him would be disappointing for myself and for the youth side who are busting a gut to be elevated to the first team.
‘GG
Fair point. Didn’t realise that.
I think the fringe players need to get a run out soon. Wouldn;t mind seeing big Balde start.
LB
United a best chance of a European place is to win the Scottish Cup. Something I would like to see.
Give some younger and fringe players a game tomorrow and rest Commons, he has been a wee bit off recently, meaning he’ll have two weeks off and send him somewhere warm.
Discussion earlier re Rooney, he is above average but seems overweight and is a smoker, hardly professional and hasn’t really kicked on in the last few years. As for Joey Barton, the guy is just a end with some intelligence…don’t be fooled.

I was starting to think about MIB hunnery in our game with Dundee Utd ,the dilemma for them celtic player off or Dundee utd player off and out the semi final,Decisions decisions decisions.
They wont be able to enjoy their night in the ludge for thinking about it:)) IMHO of course.
Ps Utd would just appeal any red card (I hope)

Read yesterday, cant remember where, a worldwide assessment of under 21 talent and Gauld was rated in the top 25. That’s some achievement for a young llad: and I would love to see him at Parkhead

Ta for that and in the sixties he was regularly named in the world best team. I don’t recall any other Scottish player achieving, but I think Jinky was picked for a couple. Unfortunately for a lot of Jinky’s career, from memory, he was up against, ‘the little bird’ Garrinchia
