Education, health, equality, poverty, our values

99

I’m fortunate to have met many of our greats socially; all of the Lions, many from before their era and lots since.  I’ll never say or write a bad word about them, but Celtic players are no different from others in the societies they hail (hail) from.  God help them if camera-phone opportunists combine with the Daily Record.

In the middle of a debate about single mothers with one former player I concluded it was best to move the conversation on, people get to a stage in their lives that world views cannot be altered in a pub.  There have been other occasions when I’ve not even approached contesting the world view in question, who was I to interrupt a social meeting and tell……

Retaining values is important.  This doesn’t mean we become pious, but we uphold views and educate, if possible.  To encourage learning in people is one of our club’s four stated values (improve health, encourage equality and tackle poverty being the others).  Education starts at home, after disciplinary issues are dealt with, but we will not be dictated to by the Daily Record.

Hear! Hear! Paul. I very much doubt that the Daily Record has ever said anything instructive in its history.

I didn’t realise Celtic provided a class in “How not to be a racist”.

At the end of the day, you have to ask yourself if you’ll be on your feet cheering that low-life next time he scores in the hoops.

Fine, don’t sack him, but next time you hold Celtic up as a beacon of morality, forgive me if I get a bit cynical.

I have to agree with your point about not changing world views in a pub. Lord knows I’ve tried….

And as you suggest, our actions should not be dictated by The Record or anyone else in the MSM.

Adherence to employment and contractual law is more than sufficient.

Good to see a reasoned approach to the current shenanigans prompted by the Daily Record.

    Excellent performance on Saturday.

Even better result from Raith Rovers on Sunday…can’t say how pleased I am for their club following their troubles brought on doing their duty.

Good to see Neil on MOTD2 the other night….funny how he is protrayed differently on English based sports programmes.

Great to see Game of Thrones back last night….pretty true to the books.

  6. Well said paul, it’s our club and any problems that arise should be dealt with internally.

The deflection from the tabloids is stomach turning.

If you’re expecting to have a team full of players who are culturally sensitive and politically correct you’ll be waiting a long time. I agree with Paul, we should try to educate people about racism etc. Repeat offenders shouldn’t be tolerated though.

I think it was kick in the nakas who wrote in the previous blog page that Celtic should be more considerate to the new media

i tend to agree and think that the Club should “officially leak” stories to the new celtic media in advance of the MSM

Furthermore, we should not give the MSM any priorities or access at CP that we dont also give to the new celtic media

its quite disappinting when the see adverts for the MSM being flashed around CP while at the same time they refuse to even mention the existence of the Charlotte fakeover revelations for example

BMCUWP, only dipped into the blog, apologies if already covered.

Anti Catholicism in England, I’m glad it hasn’t affected you personally, but it does affect every single person in England, try becoming Monarch as a Roman Catholic, it’s institutions are, by law, anti Catholic, the Act of Settlement. Gotta get back to work. I’ll respond to any reply later.

    Laters.

  14. Good point in the article about not being able to change the mindset of people in pubs. I learned that lesson after about 18 years and several sore faces.

    Slow learner.

We should never put people on pedestals as that way lies disappointment when we find they are human and whilst it is wrong to generalise, footballers in my experience tend to be more human than most if you get my meaning and don’t normally make the most enlightening of company.

    IMHO of course.

The Daily Record is a ‘Rag’ the fact that LG gave them the opportunity to demean our club by his actions deserves some sort of punishment.

Maybe we should send him out to Hearts on loan next season!
