White shirted fitness freaks arrive at Training Centre

911

Fixtures are out and the management team are in-situ at Bobbylennoxtown; the air of anticipation for a new chapter in a 126-year-old story lies heavy over Celtic supporters.  I wish we were starting tomorrow.

If you are a Celtic player, what would your overbearing sentiment be today?  If it was me, looking at photos of those two white-shirted fitness freaks at the Training Centre today, I’d be tempted to get out for a run, before the real business starts next week.

There are only a few things a manager can do in his first few days in charge of a new squad but setting standards for fitness and training are two clear examples.  Monitoring is not just about stepping on the scales anymore, the players will have their body fat, glycogen levels and heart beats documented from when they get back and throughout the season thereafter.  With benchmarks for all, as well as performances.  I’m feeling tired even thinking about it.

  1. Fear factor creeping in to the England camp from their captain of all people.

“It could be a terrible long, frustrating summer if we don’t get it right on Thursday. There is no hiding place for a player when you go out of a tournament.

“It can be tough as a player and it can take an awful long time to get over it. I have been there. I know what that feeling is about and that is the feeling that I don’t want come Friday morning.”

Up to now thought England would win but now ……..

    Twists n Turns – 4.25 Brown Panther – Michael Owen’s horse.

Seen it beat my choice twice at Pontefract – could go close at about 6/1

    (buyer beware)

  5. I think England will get beaten tonight if Suarez is anywhere approaching fit. Their defence is rotten and he’ll run riot………….That would be funny.

On the topic of professional footballers fitness again.

Pre-season these days is about getting your touch back and not really working on core fitness, most professionals keep that with good diet and exercise.

In days gone by footballers downed tools post Scottish Cup final and slobbed like the rest of us on drink and rubbish food, i’d guess few will do that these days. If they do, they should be fined.

yes, I personally just think it’s probably a safer ew bet than win option. Then again, that’s why I’m at work and Paddy Power is probably lying in the sunshine somewhere!

Once again Paul67 I am with you on this one – there is one thing I am concerned about.

The one thing no one can dispute about WGS’s tenure is that – bar the last 6 months (when I think players just hit that thing runners call the ‘wall’) – we were the fittest team on the pitch no matter who we played.

That disappeared under Lennon – and in his defence I think it may have been caused by the still ongoing curious tale of continuous soft muscle injuries being picked up by everyone bar Efe Ambrose!

Do you have any indication or does anyone have any news to update with where that investigation finished?

Will a high intensity, fitness focussed regime succeed in Lennoxtown?

Will we have to move back to Barrowfield in the winter?

  10. For any CQN bird lovers out there

    One lovely bird

Got this shot this morning near Glasgow can’t say where because the bird has never nested in this location before and it’s protected.

It was real hard to see against the similar coloured lichen and I could not get any closer for a portrait because of the terrain and the bird spooks easy when it sees humans.

A ComRes survey for ITV Border News of voters in Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders council areas in June found 61% propose to vote No, up from 59% in January.

No winners today again, so it’s a double rollover next time on the quiz that makes you say “No 2 was definitely not Dermot desmond”.

So the answers to who said what:

    Sepp Blatter (FIFA President, 2003)

    2. “I don’t make anything of anything to do with Rangers.”

    Gordon Strachan (Then Celtic manager)

    3. “Football will survive because of teams like Celtic and its fans.”

    Age Hareide (Helsingborg manager, 2012)

    4. “This is what we need in Italy, this type of environment. This was the essence of sport. To hear the Celtic fans singing and chanting after the game was incredible.”

Carlo Ancelotti (AC Milan manager, 2007)
