Inter will know they’ve been in a game

865

Someone asked me a few weeks ago if this was a must-win game.  Clearly it’s not, the cup games are must-win, as is the coming league game against Aberdeen, but tomorrow night is an important weathervane, indicating if the club is on the road to recovery.

Since that great high against Barcelona, we have faced Italian opposition twice, both in 2013, losing home games 0-3 to Juventus and Milan.  You can trace the decline in European performances through a subsequent Champions League group stage which concluded with five defeats, and last summer’s abject qualification campaign.

Indications are we are a better team now than we were in August, or even when qualifying from our Europa League group, but there is still an almighty task ahead tomorrow night.  I suspect none of this recent history will affect Ronny and his players.  The manager has told the players they can win.  Most of them are playing like they have a point to prove, all of them are looking forward to the challenge.

Inter will know they’ve been in a game.

  1. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

    Hail, Hail

Big John Guidetti was doing a fair bit of badge kissing and playing up to the crowd on Saturday again (which most enjoyed, to be fair). Contrast with Sceopvic who looked like a very unhappy chap – doing the half time warm-up away from the others, with only Efe – the soft-hearted big soul – making any effort keep him company.

However – a wee gripe. I do wish JG would leave out all of that “…I’m thumping my chest to confirm my undying love for the Hoops…” rubbish until he gets a contract signed!!!

Happy to report that me, Wee BGFC and Miss BGFC got our final tickets booked yesterday – woo-hooo!!! 

have to admit I am really looking forward to tomorrow night. And whilst I may be proven wrong, I am certain it will not be another 3-0 reverse!

A win for Ronny and his troops and bring on a CP Ronny Roar!!

    HAIL! HAIL!

  4. Most of the folk I’ve talked to are really looking forward to tomorrow night’s game but are also realistic in their expectations.

When we qualified out of our group and learned of the draw I was far from confident. But the overall performances in the last ghalf a dozen or so games, coupled with us playing abut 25 away games in a row (or so it seems) has all helped to heighten the excitemtn for tomorrow night.

Can’t wait. And just 1 more sleep!

‘ Indications are we are a better team now than we were in August’

That’s what we all hope for. I want to see us compete, and if at all possible still keep the tie alive going over to Milan.

It is still very hard to judge how far we have come, but i’m hoping it is a good bit on from the shambles of CL qualification.

No matter what, it will be a great night to be at Paradise, and I for one, can’t wait.

Big Georges Fan Club. Fella im not a gambler but im pretty sure big John wont be anywhere near Parkhead next season unless of course we draw his new club in Europe. The badge thumping is just taking the support for mugs as you say if he was that keen on the badge he would have signed by now. H.H.

All I’m hoping for from tomorrow nights game is to be still in with a shout in the tie. A clean sheet would be brilliant to give us a chance to sneak an away goal over there. Any type of lead going to Italy would be progress…

    from last thread..

Totally agree. An area holding 5000 would be sold out easily every game. It would give a few younger generations a chance to experience what many on here did with the old jungle.

I watch the Bundesliga every week and terracings are a pre-requisite, a fundamental in creating atmosphere for the rest of the stadium, not just that particular standing area. It makes for the German league having the best atmosphere in Europe, not England for all their capacity crowds, wealth and super stadiums. A game between eg Mainz and Freiburg will have a better atmosphere than Man U v Spurs.

The team must surely benefit, and your correct, PL knows this.

Not too sure about that Joe.Bellamy,Keane did the same thing. They were only with us on loan, but thought it a great honour to wear the Hoops.

I would say this though,I would not play JG in any game until he signs a contract. We have enough re-building to do for next season, and Griffiths deserves all the game time he can muster. Also Scepovic.

I think JG gets us,but as we have agreed a price with City, its a different situation from the others mentioned.I cant blame him for thinking a better offer might come in,financially, but if I had been Celtic, when he did not sign up in January,I would have shipped him back to City, and took him off the wage bill.

    ————————–

Hi – always hated that from new / prospective signings / folk that only spend 10 minutes at Celtic Park.

Different with players like TB / Maestro / Peter the Pointer whom you knew meant it.

I do like JG, and I really do like the fact he does make a real effort to engage with the crowd and entertain, even during half-time warm ups. It’s just that particular thing that annoys me.

I realise that I do sound like an auld, bliddy grump here – so I’ll shut up about it.

On the other two topics for discussion:

    Safe standing areas: YES

Selling beer at games: NO (can’t believe I said that – what I really mean is no selling beer to anyone else who I might think could be an eejit)

Can you remember the state of the NHS in 2010?

2 and a half years to see a consultant. GP fund holders, hospitals falling down, schools not fit for purpose.

Ditto schools and access to higher Ed

    No Min Wage

    No FOI

    No Sure Start

Could wrie for a while 13.30 meeting to go to.

  25. The ‘great high’ against Barca was a fluke. All of the evidence before and after confirms this. It was a great night but it’s not our benchmark.
