Social cost of Scots exclusion

1522

You want to know the real social cost of Scottish football’s exclusion from the league structure England and Wales share?  It’s the lack of pitches, nets, strips, balls and coaching certifications that the £1bn bounty, promised by the Barclay’s Premier League last night to the grassroots game.

£1bn to the grassroots is a huge sum.  It dwarfs what taxpayers can afford and will provide a series of benefits our kids and amateur players are denied.

If we’re part of the UK, we should be part of the UK’s commercial opportunities.  Every youth team in the land are excluded because of the actions of a cartel.

What are the SFA doing about it?  Nothing.  Their plans don’t seem to require world-class youth facilities.

  1. The SFA are not fit for purpose. Practically everyone in Scotland who follows football knows this. But they are vigorously pursuing John Guidetti.

  2. Certainly don’t need world class youth facilities when the international youth coaches won’t consider what by all accounts could be a world class youth. Shortsighted.

    From last thread…

NatKnow – Dingwall, he was trying to be smart in buying a single share in Sports Direct then asking for a raft of information from them, SD have called him out and they go to court on April 8th I think, he’s now asking the huns to help fund a brief….

  4. Paul67 – why would the SFA care? £1bn does not help them develop the big lumps of a boy they seem to want, to be able to play their own brand of footrugby that the Largs coaching cartel have drummed out.

  5. See the huns are having a emergency meeting to discuss the ‘ Newcastle 5’ and how there costing £5,000 a week, that’s like moaning about a Leeky tap after a tsunami has smashed in to your house :-) mad huns

What are the SFA doing about it? Nothing. Campbell has enough on his plate trying to keep track of any possible Celtic misdemeanours. Any anyway, it’s not part of their remit, which is simply to screw Celtic at every opportunity whilst maintaining the appearance of being even handed – that’s a tough shift.

I was about to post the same comment. It is obviously a deflection tactic, and of course no journalist is going to point out that the whole deal will probably cost less than McCoist takes out of the club in a month.

On the Mark Dingwall v Mike Ashley case, setting aside any personal feelings you may have about MD, what on earth is wrong with his request? He is a shareholder in Sports Direct and he has requested a copy of the SD register of shareholders, as he is perfectly entitled to do.

  17. A teenager has appeared in court after a young Celtic fan with Down’s syndrome was allegedly abused online.

Ross Gibson, 19, of Aberdeen, was charged following the Parkhead clash between Celtic and Aberdeen on 1 March.

It had been claimed that comments about Jay Beatty, 11, were posted online.

Mr Gibson appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court charged with behaving in a threatening or abusive manner. He made no plea or declaration and his case was continued.

He was released on bail and is expected to appear in court again later this year.

SD will owe a duty of care to their shareholders not to allow them to be subjected to abuse, threats and intimidation.

Given Mingwall’s history, and the people he associates with, SD would be at risk of breaching that duty of care if they were to accede to Mingwall’s request.
