The general reaction to reports that a £1m bid has been received for Leigh Griffiths is that the figure undervalues the player. Early in the season the story was different. Leigh, who joined in January last year, was behind new arrivals John Guidetti and Stefan Scepovic. His perceived value was close to zero, alongside most players sitting on the bench or in the stand.
We were panicked on 31 August last year. Having signed Amido Balde and Teemu Pucki a year earlier we were desperately short of a striker, the arrival of Scepovic, then Guidetti was cause for celebration. Neither brought much to the club, we would have been better, with more money available for the next window, if we’d prioritised Leigh and given chances to a youth player.
If Celtic choose to sell Leigh this summer, it will not be for £1m. He’s worth much more than that, probably more than Leeds United can afford. He’s under contract, first choice and scoring goals. But Celtic will also put a great deal of effort into recruiting a striker in the coming weeks.
There are no guarantees Leigh will get an extended run in the team next season. Celtic should sell players at peak value, when they have reached the point they are no longer developing, before they become an overhang on resources. Leigh is probably at peak value, and unlikely to further develop, but he’s no overhang. That scenario won’t happen until a couple of new pretenders have proven they are better fits than Balde, Pukki, Scepovic and Guidetti.

jmcormick I have to agree with you fella Griffiths is fine in the SPL but for Europe we require better but there is no point in selling the player unless we have already secured someone better. H.H.

Agreed, Leigh Griffths is a banker, we need someone who can contribute goals in the Scottish Premier – LG has proven he can do that.
Hoping the new stricker can score at a reasonable European level, we need that, but Leigh is more than good enough back-up, we need that too.

Just catching up on the blog, ref Camp De Mar, it is a lovely quiet Cove area with a sandy beach and three or four restaurants, one of which is a fish restaurant that you can walk out to and look back on the area for a nice leisurely lunch, the night life is quiet with a few bars, it also has a full size golf course which is a bit upmarket, there is also a local bus Service that runs Spanish Time from Palma taking in the area to Include Palma nova Santa Ponsa, Paguera and Andrax, or there is a taxi rank outside the hotels which there is three of The lido, Playa an other which l can’t remember, hope this helps

Could it have anything to do with an ingrained culture at Celtic Park that we must never go into a transfer window with our targets clearly identified and if that is the price of getting them, then that is the price?
By the way see this Leigh is ok for sol but not CL or EL, wee Leigh was Scotland’s best player away in Croatia playing up on his own, I just want Leigh to be good enough to get us through the qualifiers which I have no doubt he is
