Living within your means still resisted

Michel Platini’s Financial Fair Play initiative at Uefa has been one of the more inspiring developments at the top of our game for decades.  It brought spending into line with income throughout the English game and punished what Platini called financial doping.

It has been so effective, Platini now promises to relax the rules.  The blame does not all sit with Platini.  Uefa are dealing with 10 legal challenges to the rules, with complainant clubs citing European Law in their defence.  The big football powers are split.  The English appear in favour of FPP (Manchester City aside), while many stressed clubs across Europe are in opposition.

The concept of living within your means is still resisted in our game, not just in barred hold-outs in Scotland.

    Good Afternoon.

I have just received a message saying that there was an enquiry as to my general well being from Earnie.

That was very kind and I can assure you that I am alive, well and trying to cause some trouble elsewhere.

Apparently TBB suggested that I had ran out of words – in which case I must have surely died altogether.

Alas no — I have not ran out of words either.

Just busy trying to source some new found gainful employment in and amongst the daily nonsense that passes for a working life at the moment.

Some very interesting comments from Ronny D about his management plans for Celtic at the Celtic Fans Forum last night and a load of other stuff too which will be reported by others in due course no doubt.

However, can I leave you with a lesson on brevity from a child who witnessed a monkey climbing on his parents car.

  2. Look at the state of the finances at Bolton and QPR as they try to spend their way into the EPL and stay in the EPL respectively. Football finances are still a complete mess down south despite the abundance of TV cash available to them.

  3. FFP was never going to happen.

No way on gods earth would Pedro sanction 4m for Anya, I doubt he fits into Ronny’s plans either, he’s no good enough, we are trying to improve the squad, no weaken it, if he was that good, he would have been snapped up long ago.

Just more made up pish me thinks.

  4. You can do PGCE in 12 months LB, that’s a good route into teaching. I taught aircraft engineers for 5 years, some of it I enjoyed but not enough to stay doing it. Every day is a performance, hard to produce 100% all the time.

Well then you will certainly be one to know why some players have an off day :))

I would be surprised if our spend in the next 2 transfer windows, total £4 mil, silly season time is upon us.

Not sure I can do without a years money but I go 4 days next month and there are possibly options open to me then study wise. My good friend EmbraMike has passed on a list of courses so hopefully I will catch up with him soon and discuss some of them.

I used to be a trainer at work and enjoyed it. I would like to have a crack at teaching. Maybe one day.

Thanks for information re the 1 year course. I have looked at this before but it was dependant on having a degree education.

I will have a look again.

Asked how he felt being 36 ? ————– ” My head is 36 , my ankles are 72 and my feet feel like they are 100 plus. “

  9. If you challenge domestic authority, i.e. the SFA through the courts you’re banned from competing in Europe, (and so is every other team from your association (?)). Yet when you challenge UEFA through the courts… what?

What happens to the challenger and their association?

Maybe some clubs are prepared to take the risk.

  10. From last thread. Back to my old tricks of getting reverse podiums..

Beefheart, Legia were leading 6-1 on aggregate, if my memory serves me correct and time was almost up. They brought on a guy as a sub who they thought had served out his suspension in as much as he had been left off the team for the games in question. However they were obliged to have named him on the team sheets for that game to have counted. Due to an Admin error they didn’t. They did not intentionally cheat. Any right minded Celtic fan would say sorry lads, we have been given a gift horse here, you can’t blame us for taking it, but at the same time try to take into account how we would feel if the position was reversed. Taunting a Legia supporter calling them cheats is cheap, I for one would not do it and would have no respect for anyone who would. Being a sportsman and admitting we didn’t deserve to win that match is not patronising anybody, its simply telling the truth.

PGCE is a course in teaching techniques, basically how to construct lessons and provide learning.

I did it to enable me to teach my fellow engineers about aircraft systems.

  12. Thank God for Corkcelt.

  17. Cork…,

It’s very simple logic, if you don’t follow the rules you are cheating it’s the default, put it this way had they got away with it would you have been happy ?

The fact that they then tried to blame Celtic and try to force Celtic to step down as some sort of moral argument simply made me fume and question whether they did it deliberately or was a genuine mistake, my default position is if anyone breaks the rules they are cheating, if they then try to blame the opposition and force capitulation even though it’s their job to ensure they know and work within the rules then I’m inclined to say cheating which is where I ended up.

If I remember correctly the player advised them before being subbed, they then blamed a low level female clerk and sacked her, very honourable eh

The Legia supporters at murrayfield were scum,so feck them all

    ——————————-

The ones sitting around me were fine. The stewarding was non existent. The Legia fans gained tickets in areas secured for the Celtic fans. Despite the SRU ticket office refusing to sell in that manner.

  19. Captain Beefheart on

    Cork,

Difficult to dispute what you wrote. However they broke the rules. Their subsequent behaviour didn’t endear. Good luck to them though.

  20. If I mind correctly there was a bit of a whinge that Celtic would not enter into any talks with Legia.

It was obviously in our interests to leave it to the relevant authorities to deal with it. Which we did.

Study the Sion case from start to finish. .Never any doubt that they didn’t commit the crime but there after they revealed UEFA to be a bunch of arrogant cowboy chancers whose modus operandi is to make it up when necessary . Platini’s wee exploratory chat with a Swiss Judge saw him being advised that his attitude and his answers would not have been acceptable in a real thing Court..
