Hibernian 0-5 Celtic

677

A five star performance from Celtic extended their lead at the top of the table to an incredible 17 points as Anthony Stokes and Gary Hooper dictated the pace and outcome of the game.   Stokes made sure he got on the end of a Charlie Mulgrew corner on 14 minutes to head the opening goal from inside the six yard box.  Six minutes later it was 0-2 when Hooper collected on the halfway line before playing a forward pass to Stokes.  Stokes advanced into the box before slipping the ball to Hooper, who slipped the ball underneath Graham Stack from 10 yards out.

Hibs first genuine attempt arrived midway through the first half when Adam Matthews failed to deal with a long ball and was robbed by Stevenson but Fraser Forster saved.  Wotherspoon then had a good chance 8 yards out when he met a cross from the left but his attempt went wide.

Celtic should have had a penalty when Anthony Stokes again rushed into the box before cutting back and had his ankles clipped but the referee  waved play-on.

Two minutes after the break Charlie Mulgrew removed any remaining doubt about the result.  Gary Hooper was fouled 23 yards from goal and Mulgrew thundered the resulting free kick into the far corner of the net.

Hooper and Stokes linked again when the former back-heeled for the latter but Graham Stack blocked the shot from 12 yards.  Hooper’s second goal of the game arrived seven minutes into the second half when James Forrest passed to Mulgrew who fed Hooper.  The striker’s shot bobbled over the diving Stack into the net.

A careless back-heel by Kelvin Wilson was collected by Gary O’Connor who crossed for Leigh Griffiths but Forster collected comfortably.  The rout was completed when Stokes fed substitute Kris Commons whose wayward shot struck the knee of Ki and deflected into the net.  Joe Ledley almost made it six when he won a header from a Ki corner but his attempt rebounded off the bar.

  1. Been told that there’s a strong possibility that there may be at least 2 high profile arrests coming that will further embarrass rangers

  3. The Police will not let us win the league at Ibroke – i am almost certain of that the game will be rescheduled

With thanks to club67 on CelticMinded

Police say a missile was thrown towards the ref at ibrox yesterday, believed to be a pound coin, they don’t know if it was assault or a takeover bid

  5. I was told a few weeks ago to keep things in check when I stated that with our quality and youth, we could be looking a potentionally GREAT Celtic team.

This has nothing to do with them, we would still be 7 pts ahead and huge favourites.

The question now, and this is imporant :

If we can expect a lesser competition in Scotland do we cash-in on some players (Kayal/ Ki/ Hooper/ Forrest/ Izzy etc) safe in the knowledge that their replacments should be sufficicient?

The money raised could be used to cement our financial standing and also invested in the scouting & development that led to these profitable deals.

Or do we maintain a large talented squand and go after some European succes, given that we will have at least play-offs to get to the CL

    Comments?

  6. oglach- I don’t see how the police can postpone it- they will not know if it’s the big day until the previous weekend’s results come in- then it will be too late.

  8. Thought the referee was poor when he was needed.

There were about three fouls in the lead up to Gar Hoooper getting fouled before the Charlie goal.

Depending on whether Terry Butcher does a ‘Stuart McCall’ and plays a very ‘open’ game or does anything near an impersonation of his team playing us – we could see the league over by next Sunday – bar the shouting.

  9. A young African man came to Scotland, had a wee look around and decided it was full of racist bigots and thugs.

His strategy was to find the core of this horrible form of self destruction, he found it and destroyed it……

We can balance the books as champions. Only sell when we can deliver better. Something we’ve deserved for a while now ;-)

We keep our best players. We can afford to let quite a few of the large squad go. Too many squad players who will never get a run in the team. We may not make too much money from them but it will free up wages for another couple of astute signings by NL. Must keep –FF, Izzy, Kyal, Rogne, Cas Mulgrew, Big Vic, Big Joe, Broonie, Hoops, Stokes and JF. I’d add Sammi to that list but think he’ll be off in the summer

Everyone else is up for grabs.

  12. Jeg er Neil Lennon-Greeninbingley on

Magnificent Celtic. Just magnificent. This young team of ours are going places. Congratulations to Lenny and every single one of them. Brilliant.

  13. Great to build from a position of strength. The squad does need trimmed but this shouldn’t diminish from the quality. We don’t need wholesale changes and a clever transfer policy has to do with selling as well as buying. The good thing is we’ll decide and when it’s best for us to do it.

there is no way we will win the title at ipox – the peelers wont allow it (remember the poisonous ((not jelly and ice cream poisonous obv)) atmosphere in the whole week buiding up to and the day/match itself at Paradise when they won it?)

and the fact it will be won by st Paddies day, because they genuinley couldnt gave our work 11 a game at the minute!!!

    another note,

compare yesterdays big show of strength for the world at ipox and the bile that came with it

and the last day of last season when we showed what a party was about

im so fortunate i was born into our family, and i thank god every single day

  15. Bhoys if you think you’ve had one of the best weeks of your lives as Celtic supporters, then get ready.

Big shiny trophies and the fall-out from years of mal-practice in the ‘big hoose’ have still to come.

I think you will find that the Police can. Public order, If they believe there is a risk of trouble they have the power to stop the game. I am certain under the current circumstances if Celtic have a chance to clinch the league at Ibroke the game will be rescheduled until the end of the season – basically ensuring that Celtic will have it wrapped up by then.

  17. Neil Lennon says NO to BESNA!! on

Glasgow Celtic Champions…….So good to hear our song again.

Good also to see that after what felt like 3 or 4 seasons of absolutely nothing from corners, in recent weeks a few goals scored from them.

Also now that 1st place has been decided lets look at the bottom of the league.

I feel that if a newco comes about it would be better for hibs to finish bottom, as they would demand that newco start in div 3 to keep themselves in the spl.

Yorkstons dunfermline i feel would take the hit of relegation to help bigot newco into the spl.

    LET THE PEOPLE SING!!

  18. Lyon’s policy on selling stars was to get them to their peak and then sell. You get 4 or 5 good years from them, maybe more with some of the younger guys and then sell while the price is high and before they decline in value.

I hate to think of us as a selling club but that is a realistic strategy for us. We should be keeping the current squad and adding to it to give us a good shot at getting the CL money as well and building up the coefficient so we can get access to it more easily.

I see the point in cashing in on one or two (some will want to go in any case) but I’d like to give it a year or two and let this team grow a bit yet.

  19. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

If we win the league at Mordor, will they play the Celtic songs while we are being presented with the trophy?

    Actually, I don’t think so.

    Ah, well.

  20. I think our Lenny is building a team for Europe, thats his goal IMO, i’ts surprising that the football media haven’t commented on this.

oh maybe theyre heads are still in the same sandbox as the last 10 years?

  21. It was so pleasing to see us chasing/hunting the ball when 5 goals up.

And in stark contrast to Tony Mowbray’s team – good to see men freeing themselves up for throw ins, people used to hide next to the opposition in his team.

    This is a brave team. It’s a football team…

I wonder if the Administrators might ask for the game to be brought forward to avoid the possibility of us winning the title at Poundland?

It would do wonders for the cashhflow.
